Colonialism and Imperialism
The European, White Male vs. the Other in Heart of Darkness
The novella Heart of Darkness has, since it s publication in 1899, caused much controversy and
invited much criticism. While some have hailed it s author, Joseph Conrad as producing a work
ahead of it s time in it s treatment and criticism of colonialist practices in the Congo, others, most
notably Chinua Achebe, have criticized it for it s racist and sexist construction of cultural identity.
Heart of Darkness can therefore be described as a text of it s time, as the cultural identity of the
dominant society, that is, the European male is constructed in opposition to the other , the other in
Heart of Darkness being defined as black and/or female. Notions of cultural ... Show more content

In the case of the second instance it is somewhat appropriate that the leader s death is announced
by one of the people of the group he is seen to have joined. Therefore Africansare constructed as
being inferior to Europeans through Conrad s refusal to grant them the power of language and
speech and even when they are given the opportunity to speak, Conrad constructs Africans as being
largely inarticulate. Thus confirming the superiority of the white race.
Conrad further marginalises and degrades the African characters and race not only through the
denial of language but also the denial of human form. When Marlow first sees Africans in a small
boat on the water, he describes them in terms of their muscles , bones and white teeth , despite also
recognizing a vitality and spirit. The disembodiment continues when Marlow encounters the chain
gang at the outer station. It is when seeking shade however that Marlow stumbles upon the grove of
death. Here he finds emancipated and dying Africans, cast off by their imperialist owners because
they are no longer deemed to have monetary value, or economic viability. Instead of feeling
revulsion s at this, Marlow dehumanizes the Africans, describing them as bundles of acute angles
and noting how they drink on all fours . Thus by denying the Africans their humanity, Conrad
constructs a notion

Comparing Suspense In The Sniper And Once Upon A Time
Suspense Essay
Aaron Little Holder
The Sniper and Once Upon a time give off different elements of suspense. When you read these
two stories they give off different vibes. In both stories you will see that there are both differences
and similarities.
In the story The Sniper the element of suspense starts with the setting. The story takes place during
the civil war in Ireland. The sniper is isolated and the time of day is twilight. We don t have a lot
of information about what is going on during the story. The story is being told by a third person
so the reader can only see what the person who is telling the story sees and feel. The mood that is
set in the story also adds to the suspense of the story. The images and sounds and the details shared
throughout the story lets the reader know that something bad is going to happen. Finally, the plot of
the story creates suspense. We are not aware of the background of the characters in the story. The
narrator does not share information about the different snipers and what may ... Show more content

The story begins with the author telling the story from her point of view. She is home alone and
the time of day is night time. The suspense starts when she says that she was aroused by a
strange sound. This creates suspense. The author then starts telling herself a bedtime story. She
begins telling the story like a fairy tale. In all fairy tales there is a moral. This creates suspense.
The story is now being told from a third person s point of view. As the story is being told, the
reader can begin to see that the families fears, suspicions and mistrust are getting out of hand. You
can see that the family is doing too much and that they are about to put themselves in a situation
that is not good. The story starts off with a perfect family in the perfect home, just like a fairy tale
starts, however it ends in tragedy. The son dies

A Thousand Splendid Suns Character Analysis
In A Thousand Splendid Suns and First They Killed My Father, we find the three female characters
of Laila and Mariam, and Loung, respectively, in harrowing and dangerous political atmospheres.
Both of the political atmospheres described in these two books expose these characters to harsh
realities of war, abuse, starvation, and oppression; these characters must also come to terms with a
rising body count around them. From Mariam s perspective, we hear that there was looting, murder,
and, increasingly, rape, which was used to intimidate civilians and reward militiamen (Hosseini
253). Despite these despotic circumstances, and perhaps in spite of the physical toll they take, the
three female characters of these books exhibit extraordinary perseverance as a result of their
tumultuous surroundings.
The most prevalent and threatening theme that each character experiences first hand, as a result of
the dangerous political atmospheres they are exposed to, is starvation; we slowly see each
character physically diminished throughout their stories. Loung describes vividly to readers, I can
count every rib in my rib cage, but my stomach protrudes outward, bloated like a ball between my
chest and hips (Ung 83). Similarly, Mariam recounts how starvation had ravaged Laila s daughter
s body: Aziza s ribs began to push through the skin, and the fat from her cheeks vanished. Her
calves thinned, and her complexion turned the color of weak tea. When Mariam picked her up, she
could feel her

Hannah Montana Depression
Being an actor means to represent a character and act accordingly with the character they
represent. The effect of being famous as an actor is that they have no life, they cannot be
themselves because of the society. Behind the scene of each movie, there is their real life, not
just the life people think they have. For instance, Hannah Montana is a TV show mostly viewed
by kids and teenager. She was at a period of time kid s role model because of the life they thought
she had. Sometimes when asked who is Hannah Montana they describe her as a charactershe is in
the show and not who she is in reality. As it is all known Hannah Montana was in fact Miley
Cyrus. After the TV show ended in 2011, she was interviewed and she said a very deep sentence....

Some types of depression are, Major depression, Dysthymia, Bipolar disorder, and Seasonal
Affective Disorder (Mayo Clinic Health Center). Major depression is a mood disorder, this is
the most common form of depression. The patient loss interest, loss appetite or have eating
disorders, feels sad or worthless. This kind of depression can last for more than 6 months,
sometimes up to years and if not treated can get severe. This type of depression is the most
common cause of suicidal thoughts or lead to suicide. Dysthymia is less severe but can turn to
major depression if not treated. Bipolar is just a mood disorder which mostly affects emotions
finally seasonal affective disorder is basically loneliness. Depression can be caused due to the
slightest event which happens in one s life. For example, the TV show 13 Reasons why. This
TV show narrates the story of a teenage girl who committed suicide because she got bullied or
maltreated by her friends. She sent 13 tapes to her closest friend and each tape had an event, a
story of and how a specific friend behaved with her. The message this TV show leaves is, we can
prevent suicide by being kind to people. People agree and disagree because having suicidal
thoughts is not something kindness might help it needs a cure not just kindness. In other hand,
kindness can play a great role to someone who wants to commit suicide, because most of the time,
they feel worthless so kindness might just like it could have helped Hannah Baker the adolescent
who committed suicide in 13 reasons why. People have so many different ways to get rid of
suicide; some will need help others just need communication or kindness. Just like some depressed
patient might need professional help and the others will just need affection, kindness or that they
are worth it. Depressed people do not often talk about their sickness because they are

My Personal Assessment
My Personal Assessment to Reality
Knowing that I was going to track myself on my health habits, I felt the need to change my
habits around to make myself seem healthy , however this only lasted two days. This was a
check to reality, that my habits are only doing harm to myself and I need to change them. My
health habits prior to assessing myself were horrible. The only exercise I would do is the walk
where I parked my car to my apartment or parking lot to my classes. Not only did I not exercise, my
eating habits were horrible, and to top if off my sleeping habit was bad. I usually have a frozen
burrito or frozen waffle for breakfast with a shake and for lunch some leftovers or microwavable
food. Let s not forget my 24oz of coffee. Additionally, my lunch was accompanied by chips and
candy or chocolate bar. Moreover, I would be having dinner at 9pm and than snacking on chips or

I should not find ways blame school or work for my bad eating habits. Tracking the food, I ate,
stress, and sleep open my eyes to reality that I am not healthy. I learned in these two weeks, I am
considered overweight. I weight 137 and my height is 4 11. I should be aware that I am only
hurting myself and causing future problems. I can possibly make this changes by loving myself
like I did before, and making a plan on what I can do for myself. For example, I use to work full
time, go to school full time, and always made time for working out and yoga. I will use that
schedule I once used before to help me guide me to being working on my body. This will only be
the first step to rest of my lifestyle, I will track what I eat and let go off my sweets. I can plan
ahead of what I will eat which enable me to not want to drive to McDonalds and get a happy meal.

The Student s Chair For An Adult
The students desks were rearranged because the students would run into each other and bump
into each other with their chairs. There was not enough space between the student s chair for an
adult to walk through. Turning those five groups into U shape gives the teacher an opportunity
to address every child s work in one place instead of bumping into another child for space. I gave
extra space in between the groups for more clear traffic patterns for the children to walk to the
carpet, their cubbies, or other areas of the room. After arranging them like this there is even more
space in the classroom which hopefully prevents chaos. Another area I modified in this classroom
is the Cubby Area. The cubbies in my CT s class are in an L shape against the far leftcorner. Every
morning and afternoon the children and pushing and bumping into each other. By putting them
straight and against the left wall gives the children more space to gather or put up their
belongings in turn makes it safer. There is a large, clear walkway to the cubbies for the students
and plenty of space to line up in front of the classroom door. In the top left corner is the new
reading area. It has a bookcase that is easily accessible to the students along with two bean bags
for the children to sit on while reading. This area contributes to their gross and fine motor skills
because the children can sit while reading a book of their choice. The bookcase has books ranging

Dodge Hellcat Comparison
Ford and Dodge have been competing for many years at producing the best muscle car. They use
the latest technology to achieve more horse power and make the car more comfortable to drive,
while maintaining some of the traditional aesthetics and giving it some new flare. Ultimately,
both cars are great machines, but looking at the engine specifications, speed/drivability, and
aesthetics, the Hellcat prevails over the GT 500. The Dodge Hellcat and the Shelby GT 500 are
both notorious for their horsepower but looking at the engine specifications, one can see what
makes these cars so powerful. The Dodge Hellcat comes with a 6.2L supercharged V8 engine and
is the most powerful production V8 engine ever made. It produces 707 hp and 650 ft lb of torque...

While the Dodge Hellcat is more of a square bodied car the Shelby GT 500 has more curvature.
These different styles have unique factors, but one is better designed and uses the body to help
the car in performance. The Shelby GT 500 is designed with a wide body that makes the car
more stable than its earlier classic models. The rear of the car is squarer than the front, but
curves on the edges giving it a rounded look and a good stance. As you move towards the front,
it contours to the ground giving the car more downforce as it accelerates. This also helps give the
car more traction to the road. The new body style captures some of the older features of the
mustang, but brings something new to the mustang era. Meanwhile the Dodge Hellcat does not
bring many new features as far as aesthetics, it keeps mainly to the older body style. The Hellcats
body style is square from the front to the back. The front end maintains level positioning with the
rear giving the car less traction with the road, but a much taller stance than the Shelby GT 500.
With this being said the Shelby has come far in its time bringing uniqueness and better performance
with the body while the Dodge Hellcat has

Nursing Home Suicide
Many nursing home residents, including the elderly residents at Hoosier Christian Village, struggle
daily with symptoms of situational depression, anxiety, and various mental illnesses brought on by
inactivity, decline in physical and mental competence, and the unavoidable confrontation with
death. In addition, many residents are admitted to the residence because of previous mental
illnesses; therefore, future development or recurrence of these diseases is nearly inevitable.
Studies at several universities worldwide have concluded that the assertion of youth in local
assisted living residences has aided tremendously in battling these mental illnesses. They have also
conducted research that infers that youth involvement with the elderly in their communities can
combat the persistence and development of depression. Therefore, baking cookies and donating
them to the Hoosier Christian Village can be exceedingly beneficial to the residents. These
cookies would allow the idea of bringing the outside world in and help defeat feelings of
disconnection and isolationism. Struggling with the loss of their past life, the residents fall
towards the influence of depression. The cookies will serve as a reminder of previous life

Changes In Juvenile Crimes
In 2012 a ten year old boy in Southern California murdered his friend with a kitchen knife by
repeatedly stabbing the friend in the chest. The suspect was said to have anger issues and a mental
illness that he was medicated for. The boy, charged with felony assault and murder, was tried in a
Juvenile Court and later sentenced to juvenile rehabilitation. Depending on the crimeand age of a
defendant, the Juvenile Justice System decides whether or not to put the case in the hands of the
Juvenile Court and try them as children. Due to the defendant s unusual young age he was tried as a
child,. Often times fifteen, sixteen, or seventeen year olds are tried as adults, when they should not
be. The underlying assumptions about juveniles is that they are not developmentally able to be
treated as adults, and that they can be put through rehabilitation programs and change for the better.
Whereas adults are thought as not being able to change their ways, so locking them up is a more
suitable answer. Juveniles are also thought of as not knowing their rights, leading to unfair... Show

The rate increased greatly during the mid 1990 s and then decreased dramatically after 1996. A
Possible cause of the changes in juvenile crime rates may be parental negligence and a lack of
discipline. In the early and mid 1900 s parents would smoke around their children, drink while
pregnant, and allow their children to do as they pleased, today things are very different. Times
have changed and what used to be acceptable has also changed. Today more high school graduates
go to college than before, society has higher expectations for juveniles than it used to. The usage of
juvenile rehabilitation has increased in order to keep this trend going. Prisons have also started to
overflow, which may have a connection to the Juvenile Justice System assigning more cases to the

Speechnow. Org V. Federal Election Commission Case Study
In a court case in 2010, Speechnow.org v. Federal Election Commission, the ability to spend
virtually limitless money on an election was given under first amendment protection. With this
ruling, Political Action Committees, or super PACs, have become tremendously influential when
it comes to elections. Unlike regular PACs, these super PACs cannot directly donate any raised
money directly to this political candidate. While these parties can not directly donate this raised
money, and must be independent of the candidate they support or oppose, there is a huge debate
of the unclear line involved with who can be a part of these super PACs. For example, Obama had

Candidates such as Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are surrounded by money. This will allow
for easy unlimited funding from the citizens who agree with their views and will benefit from them

While old PACs had a cap on how much could be donated by individuals, while prohibiting
organizations and companies from donating, these new isolates super PACs can receive unlimited
donations. A major company may decide to spend a few million dollars to support a specific
candidate if it could return profit on the investment from taxation policies the winning candidate

This is shown in the current election, with two of the candidates being some of the biggest financial

Analysis Of Watchman Nee s Song Of Songs
The book Song of Songs, by Watchman Nee is about his interpretation of the book in the Bible
Song of Songs, written by Solomon. The book in the Bible is basically about the romance
between a lover and his beloved. The language speaks of the love in a marriage relationship and
the pursuing nature of the two lovers. It is a very touching dialogue and has a lot of meaning
hidden in the text. Watchmen Nee brings to life his interpretation of the text and how it relates to
believers pursuit of Christ. He also goes into the spiritual aspect of the Biblical text in his
interpretations. The read is very deep and informative on what is actually written in the Song of
Songs. He gives many insights into the book in the Bible, many that relate to believers now and
some that I touched my life. There are many sections of the book Song of Songs ranging from,
The Initial Pursuit and Satisfaction, to The Groaning of the Flesh and so on. Each of the
sections cover certain verses from the Biblical text and include subsections on the interpretation
of verses. The part of the book that touched me the most was in section two, on The Call for
Deliverance from the Self, specifically, Failure and Recovery. This section speaks of how the
beloved wants to dwell with her lover in his presence, living with the him and his benefits, but not
wanting to change her ways to be closer to him. As Watchman Nee says, in other words, she is
seeking after pleasure in her feeling, and she is reluctant to

Genetic Causes
Genetic Causes
A person s genetic structure, passed on from their parents, is responsible for both their physical and
behavioral characteristics. People who have inherited genes responsible for alcoholism from their
parents will automatically be prone to addiction. There is not one single gene that passes alcoholism
down through one s children. Identifying each specific gene involved in alcoholism is almost
impossible, instead, studies have shown that certain gene combinations have a strong relationship
with alcoholic disorders. However, some studies have shown that certain combinations of different
genes can create a relationship with alcohol addiction.
Alcoholism is a medical diagnosis. As such it does not apply merely to heavy drinking, or merely
to getting into trouble because of drinking, or getting drunk a specified number of times. The
diagnosis of alcoholism applies only to those who manifest the symptoms of addiction. (Keller
1982). Some behavioral genes can also be passed down from one s parents. Those genes could
influence a propensity for alcoholism in an individual. Mental and behavioral illnesses include
some like depression and schizophrenia. The latter illness is more common in people that have a
familial history that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A stressful workload or workplace environment can lead to the likeliness of a person to drink
heavily. Stressful relationships with people one encounters regularly such as family members

alcohol. For example, having the occupation of a doctor or perhaps a nurse. Those jobs take a lot

they deserve to drink or need to drink. This can therefore lead to uncontrolled use of a

abuse was conducted in Canada. As part of the study, twelve subjects with addictions to alcohol,
cocaine, tobacco, cannabis, opiates, and other drugs participated in several days of group therapy
and two ayahuasca treatments. Data concerning psychological and behavioral conditions were
collected through a series of surveys both before and after the completion of the study. The

First described academically during the 1950s by Harvard ethnobotanist Richard Schultes,
ayahuasca is derived from the Brazilian Banisteriopsis caapi and Psychotria viridis. The resulting
brew is highly concentrated with a compound known as dimethyltryptamine (DMT) which causes
vivid, dream like hallucinations (3). DMT is found endogenously in many organisms, with small
amounts present in the pineal gland of mice and perhaps that of humans. However, because of a
family of enzymes in the liver known as monoamine oxidases, ingestion of DMT containing
substances has no effect on humans as the compound is quickly broken down. It is for this reason
that the ayahuasca brew must be made with the specific species of plants. By boiling the plants
for several hours, alkaloids which act as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are released. This
inhibits the enzymes from breaking down the DMT and allows the substance to cross the blood
brain barrier

Introduction . The Prevalence, Affects, And Types Of Stigma
Introduction The prevalence, affects, and types of stigma and stigmatization felt by American gang
members is an under researched topic in the social sciences. While daily experiences in and social
understanding of American culture illustrate that gang membership is a stigmatized identification
the research to support that notion is sorely absent from the greater conversation on gangs, stigma,
and violence in our communities. In an attempt to understand how stigma directly affects gang

in hopes of creating an understanding of the stigma that gang involved men feel. These topics are

The hypothesis states that belonging holds two foundational elements the first, there is a need for
frequent, affectively pleasant interactions with a few other people and second these interactions
must take place in the context of a temporally stable and enduring framework of affective concern
for each other s welfare (Baumeister Leary, 1996). Gangs commonly fulfill these two elements.
Burnett states that a gangs, formation and maintenance are based on its members bared
experience of estrangement from traditional social systems and on the security (emotional and
physical) that membership provides (McMillan Chavis) (Burnett, 1999) . The gang s acceptance
of the man and the subsequent sense of family satisfies the need for affectively pleasant
interactions (McMillan Chavis, 1986), and the desire for protection (Regan) and the ability of
gangs to provide such protection secures a man s sense that his welfare is a concern of those with
whom he feels acceptance. As Baumsiester and Leary s article illustrates belonging is so necessary
to personal happiness that those who experience social isolation are bared from experiencing high
levels of happiness (Baumeister Leary). While gang membership might not provide happiness in the
traditional sense they do quench the human need to belong. This need for acceptance and belonging
is only further aggregated through unstable and dangerous Early Childhood

nursing student Laura Gurke at University of Wisconsin Oshkosh said. For years many have tried
to determine what exactly constitutes a hangover, but there are theories that it is caused from
dehydration to not eating enough before drinking. Some of the major side effects when dealing
with a hangover, besides regret, Gurke adds, include: nausea, vomiting, headaches, thirst, and
sensitivity to light and sound. Melissa Ische, who works as a bartender... Show more content on

Alcoholic drinks will make you feel better in the moment, but then later on your hangover either
comes back just as bad or maybe even a little worse depending on how much you drank, Ische said.
If drinking alcohol doesn t seem like the best option after a long night out, nurse of 30 years Shari
Kuchan said water is the best liquid to cure that hangover. Most hangovers are a result of
dehydration so drinking lots of fluids is the best advice, Kuchan said. According to Kuchan,
there are not many tricks to getting rid of a hangover, which is why she sees so many people in
the ER with severe hangover symptoms. If they come to an ER we give them a banana bag
which is an IV with vitamins in it, Kuchan said. We will give them something for the nausea and
advice not to do that again. Gurke, who has tried to cure her hangover with water and failed,
suggests having a bottle of Pedialyte ready for the next morning. [Pedialyte] is the nectar of God
that cures hangovers, Gurke said. It has the necessary electrolytes to replenish the body after a long

Let Gays Marry and Leave Marriage Alone Essay
I will summarize some of the key points from the essay, Let Gays Marry, by Andrew Sullivan, and
the essay, Leave Marriage Alone, by William Bennett. Some of these main points are taken from
mutual beliefs of both authors and others are derived from the opposing opinions of the two.
The first summary of Andrew Sullivan s essay is a reflection of Andrew Sullivan s stance of the
issue. The original essay was in favor of allowing same sex marriage in America. My summary will
dictate some of the arguments that I found to be the most persuasive and important to Sullivan s
case. The second summary is of Bennett s essay, Leave Marriage Alone. I will, again, try to point
out the most influential pieces of argument in the essay.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a basis for these arguments, Sullivan believes that marriage is an important key to the
progression of homosexual equality in America.
Sullivan is aware of certain churches and religious affiliates that would be in opposition to the
marrying of gay couples. Sullivan explains that homosexuals pushing for the permission of gay
marriage do not intend to change the doctrines or traditions of any church. The movement s actual
desire is the fundamental right to marriage.
Sullivan reiterates the hopes of the gay community by expressing their longing for recognition
before the law as a married couple. Gays are essentially making the simple request that they be
given the same marriage license as any other couple in America who wishes to be married.
Advocates of homosexual marriage say they are aiming to strengthen and become a part of the
institution. Bennett disagrees and implores that if they were allowed to follow through, and be
accepted as an active part of the institution of marriage, they would be, in turn, destroying the very
foundations of marriage.
Bennett deems that allowing gays to marry would have a profound influence on society. The
change from the traditional ideals of marriage would completely redefine the conventional
definition of marriage. Simply allowing gays to marry would contradict some of the worlds major
religions that play

Clear Lenses
Whether a project is large or small, safety glasses are a vital piece of equipment to wear in
construction. There once was reluctance to their wear since they were often uncomfortable. They
fit poorly and severely reduced the field of vision. These days there are a wide variety of smart
designs that afford the wearer good vision and comfort. Considering how common eye injuries are
in construction, there is no longer an excuse not to wear protection. Clear lenses account for the
most sales. They are made of shatter proof glass. Coupled with a sturdy frame, they provide good
protection from the most common sorts of accidents involving the eyes during construction getting

Regular glasses can break into shards when hit forming a danger in themselves. Overglasses
protect from this. Because of the high level of protection they provide and the wide field of
vision they offer, they are often wore by themselves. Overglasses can be avoided by
incorporating prescription lenses directly into safety glasses. Some designs are so close to
standard vision wear that they can be worn away from a construction site without garnering
undue attention. Prescription lenses are custom ordered to the individual s need. Their added
cost can be justified by the comfort and convenience they provide especially if worn often or for
lengthy periods. Virtually any sort of prescription lenses can be converted into safety frames
suitable for use in construction. Trifocals, graduated lenses, and lenses that darken in sunlight can
all be upgraded to protective wear for a reasonable price. The highest levels of protection are
found in the sort of protective wear used in working with chemicals. In addition to heavy duty
frames able to survive hard impact, these lens systems have side guards that protect the eyes from
any sort of splashes that might be encountered in lab work. They are often used when working with

Essay about Foreign Policy
The Roosevelt Corollary greatly affected American foreign policy. It was in sharp contrast to the
Monroe Doctrine, put in place to stop foreign intervention with the American continents. In 1823
President Monroe implemented US policy that stated European powers were not allowed to
colonize or interfere with the newly budding United Statesor the Americas. In 1904 President
Roosevelt expanded upon this policy in response to European intervention with Latin America.
This policy became known as the Roosevelt Corollary. The document echoed the style of
leadership President Roosevelt became synonymous with. This more aggressive form of policy
became known as Big Stick Diplomacy. Foreign policy in the United States would forever be...

The economy was expanding and the US became more interested in the well being of surrounding
economies. The Dominican Republic was in debt to various European nations at this time. They
were having problems paying their debts and chose to stop paying them. In response to this issue,
President Theodore Roosevelt formulated an extension to the Monroe Doctrine. The Roosevelt
Corollary, as it became to be known, gave the US the power to intervene with European powers
coming west in an attempt to collect debts.2 The fear was that Europe, in an attempt to collect
debts, would occupy and control the country in debt. With the Panama Canal on the scope, this
would hinder economic stimulus in the US. President Roosevelt s beliefs are best captured in the
Corollary when he stated:
It is not true that the United States feels any land hunger or entertains any projects as regards the
other nations of the Western Hemisphere save such as are for their welfare. All that this country
desires is to see the neighboring countries stable, orderly, and prosperous. Any country whose
people conduct themselves well can count upon our hearty friendship. If a nation shows that it
knows how to act with reasonable efficiency and decency in social and political matters, if it keeps
order and pays its obligations, it need fear no interference from the United States.

Gender Issues Of Danish Sports Organizations
In Gertrud Pfister s article, Gender Issues in Danish Sports Organizations Experiences, Attitudes
and Evaluations, there is a discussion as to whether women are indeed treated differently in higher
positions of power in Denmark. Pfister uses statistics and studies to prove her argument that women
are indeed treated differently and presented differently in the organizations. She even begins to
touch on the fact that men and women are portrayed wrongly in the studies she talks about.
Throughout the article women are presented in a mann that suggests they could not possibly be an
ideal leader in the ways that men can nor can they deal with responsibilities of such a job.
Pfister makes Denmark s position on women being equal to men and deserving of the same
opportunities as them known but adds that they re still under represented (27).Women are free to
join the same workforces as men and partake in the same activities as men but how they are treated
within these occupations is what she finds compelling. Pfister aims to identify reasons for the
existing gender hierarchy (27) and accomplishes this by using the results of quantitive surveys
on Danish sports leaders performed by herself, her peers and those who have wished to
investigate this topic as well. We as readers can see for ourselves that throughout the world the
power appears to be in the hands of men (27). For example, how many world leaders do we see that
are of the female sex? According to Time Magazine there

Organ Shortage Around The World
In the 21st century, it is obvious to the world that there is an organ shortage around the world.
Many thousands, hundreds of thousands of people are waiting for organs to save their lives. There
are just not enough organs to be spread around to the people who urgently need them. The global
response to this problem is very different throughout different countries. Some countries are
harvesting organs, some executing prisoners, some paying people to donate, some allowing people
to sell them on the black market, and some countries just urging people to donate out of the
kindness of their hearts. The organs and tissues you can currently donate (deceased) are; liver, heart,
lungs, cornea, tissue, pancreas, kidneys, small intestines, blood, blood vessels, bone marrow and
other parts of the bone, heart valves and skin. Organ donationis a very controversial topic, with
many nations taking different opinions as a whole. But why are some people so hesitant to donate
their organs to the people who really need them?
The first question is really; how many organs do we actually need? Currently, the Australian
Donation rate is 16.1 donors per million. 16 people in every million donating their organs. That is
approximately 384 donors in the whole population of Australia. You may think that is quite a lot,
but when there are 1600 people urgently waiting for an organ, this measly 384 people is just not
enough. This situation is viewed differently around the globe. There are many different

One Laptop Per Child Analysis
Technology as we know it now and how we knew it yesteryear is a symbolic metaphor for racial
tensions and the way it is idealized in time and space, because it ultimately shapes the social
construction of race (67). The chapter challenges the linear timeframe in which people typically
idealize history, believing that modern day society and all it has created is good, better than the

Differences Between Hamlet And The Lion King
Fairy tales have helped children deal with things they fear. Now a days, the fairy tales children are
aware are not the Hans Christian Anderson, Studio Ghibli or Brothers Grimm, but Disney. Disney
has taken the typification portrayal in the fairy tales, make it a reality and took it to entertainment
industry. Comparing the original narrative to the Disney version, most of the stories have went
through retellings and alternation; for example Hamletand The Lion King. Disney has inadvertently
neglected these stories origin and motive. Many agree and have picked up The Lion King,
Disney s most watched and victorious movie till date, as Disney s only original movie; the only
movie which is previously has not been a fairy tale. However, this is not the true. While The
Lion King may not be based on a fairy tale, it is a matter of fact strongly based on the play by
William Shakespeare called Hamlet . Disney creative writers adroitly disguise the basic character...

language. The rap song is sung at a high pace. It is also called as a literature piece. The argument

Type of claim: This poem is based on claims of value. To reveal author s identity, Mexico is used

Literary Devices In Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven
Self Torture Edgar Allen Poe utilizes various literary devices in order to create a dark tone in his
poem, The Raven. Poe s use of alliteration and repetition are instrumental to the melodic nature of
the work, as well as providing a rather visual representation of his gothic setting. He also utilizes
pathos to evoke a response from the reader through emotions (fear, desire, etc.) In addition, the
point of view plays a key role in this poem, but its reliability may be questioned. All of these
aspects of the poem combine to show the human need to torture oneself and to try to do anything
to find optimism in a time of grief and denial. In reality, this way of coping isn t effective and will
just hurt the person more.
Alliteration is the repetition of consonant sounds in the beginning of a sentence. Poe uses
alliteration to add tension within the poem. From my books surcease of sorrow sorrow for the lost
Lenore, (Line 10). This example shows alliteration with the use of imagery and makes the lines
more meaningful. In addition, it conveys Poe s feeling of sadness and depression. He also uses
alliteration to add to the creepy, entrancing mood of the poem as seen in the following example,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before, (Line 26). The following verse
from the poem describes the way the character was feeling about the lost of his loved one. From

reason is because Title 9 does not apply to NWA because it is a non profit. For me this statement

Analysis Of Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption
In Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption the prison acts as a microcosm reflecting the
structures of the capitalist society to what extent do you agree with this view?
One critic named Terry Eagleton, stated It is capitalism, not Marxism that trades in futures. This
quote alone suggests the extent of what capitalism is to some Marxist critiques and this one is
suggesting that the future is traded upon capitalism which relates to King s Rita Hayworth and the
Shawshank Redemption as the prison system does determine the future of inmates yet inside the
prison there is a capitalist structure. I will look at a plethora of characters in the novella and
explore how their roles in the prison are used to reflect capitalist society: Andy a bourgeoisie
socially but a proletariat politically, Red who goes under the system whom also, serves the
proletariat even though he is one himself and the warden that uses his role as the bourgeoisie for
corruption and power over the inmates. Despite the inmates being in a confined space and managed
by the outside world. It could be argued that the Shawshank prison is formulating a society of their
own.
Kings use of the character, Andy, is vague. As it could be argued that his role changes
throughout the novella. It could be said that there are many interpretations to where Andy s
character develops as he can be measured by his political and social class as we see done by the
prisoners and the wider society. Reiman wrote a book titled the rich get richer and the poor get
prison this pragmatically shows that those who are poor go to prison. However, this is not the
case with Andy due to the fact before he was in prison he was a successful banker so in fact he
was not poor, opposing the view, that Reiman is signifying. Somewhat suggesting that King is
stating that society could have an impact on any group of people regardless of what the
backgrounds are or the backgrounds of the individual. Andy was a banker before he came to the
Shawshank prison. In some lens he would be perceived as a bourgeoisie because of the class that
would have been in. However, from a political lens it would be evident that Andy could be a
proletariat for the ranks of the company that he had

Benefits Of The Corporate Card Program Essay
1.1Overview
Commercial Metals Company currently uses a Corporate Card Program for Travel and
Entertainment expenses. The Corporate Card Program also provides an efficient, cost effective
method of purchasing and paying for small dollar transactions or low value purchases (LVP) using
the same card. This policy provides information about the process, the types of purchases that can
and cannot be made, records that must be maintained and reconciled and a variety of other Program
information.
Benefits of the Corporate Card Program include:
Items can be purchased without preparing a purchase order
Reduces process cost
Increases process efficiency (i.e. many one time vendors will not be added and required to be
maintained)
Reduces time needed to obtain goods
Only eligible business expenses may be charged to the Corporate; personal purchases are
prohibited. All Corporate transactions must be supported by a business purpose and all transactions
must be reviewed by a person other than the cardholder. Improper use of the Corporate Card may
result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
Cardholders who have incurred charges must submit an expense report, similar to the Travel and

Duality And Sensitivity Essay
6Duality and Sensitivity
The optimal solution for a linear programming problem can be calculated by utilizing the simplex
method. Yet, we may still ponder on whether we have truly discovered the optimal solution of our
linear model. Furthermore, we could be concerned on what to do with the surplus of resources at
our hands. In addition, the parameters that we utilized to formulate our model may not reflect the
actual parameters. Those values may have been simply estimates that would guide us in identify a
best possible outcome. Therefore, we are required to conduct further analysis and determine if
indeed we have achieved optimization. In linear programming, analyzing the concept of duality and
sensitivity is extremely useful. It gives us reassurance that our optimal solution would be feasible
in reality. If it was not the best solution, we can now focus on how to reach the optimal solution and
optimize our given objective.
The first issue that we may encounter is whether we utilized our surplus of resources wisely as we
optimize our objective function. All linear programming problems have an associated linear
programming problem called the dual [4]. We call our main problem the primal and the associated
problem the dual. Analyzing the relationship of the optimization of both problems will give us
good insight in weather resources were utilized wisely. The dual problem can be formulated by
alternating our primal problem. If the primal problem s objective

How Did Cesar Chavez Help Migrant Farm Workers
Throughout the era of the great depression, migrant farm workers were put at unfair labor. A
man named Cesar Chavez helped migrant farm workers by boycotting the fruit companies they
worked for and forming unions for them. The beginning of Chavez s life, striking and
boycotting fruit companies, and his new projects were the biggest impact in changing farm
worker s lives. Cesar E. Chavez was born in 1927, in Arizona. Chavez worked as a migrant farm
worker when he was young. He has the experience of working in the scorching hot weather. His
family had lived with his grandmother, where he learned all if his values, morals, and beliefs.
As Chavez grew older, his father would teach him how to be respectful, and how he should
always stand up for what he believes in. His father lost their land and was forced to work as
migrant farm workers. After a month, the Chavez family moved away in search of more farms.
Cesar rarely went to school, and would never stay at one school for a long time. Cesar dealt with
poverty and racisms at a young age. Later, his father had got hurt in an accident and was forced to
leave school to support himself and his family (Valbuena1 3).... Show more content on

When Cesar turned thirty five on March 31, 1962, he quit his job to help create unions for
migrant farm workers. This acted as a major change in his life. In mid 1962, a labor organizer
told Cesar that a union was impossible. At that time, there was too much against Cesar like
money, law, and people (Hudock 1 3). A year after his birthday the National Farm Workers
Association was created. The association was doing well for the first two years. All the members
of the association had a credit union, as well as an auto repair co operative, burial insurance, and a
newspaper. Cesar started to get the idea that he wanted to start a strike but he knew they still
needed several more years of intense organization and fundraising (Hudock

Photography Is A Culture, Not Just A Medium
INTRODUCTION
Photography is a culture, not just a medium. Photography has been used as an exploitative tool, an
explorative tool, and an artistic tool. A photograph can be a snapshot of time, a record, a detail, a
shift, a perspective, an emotion. In curating photography, I had to learn how to create conversations
and comparisons between images, whilst simultaneously letting each work retain its individuality.
There is no one meaning in a photograph. The intrinsically challenging task was to provide points
of entry into the works and elucidate the broad theme of the exhibition, whilst allowing counter
narratives and alternative readings to exist.
THE PRELIMINARY PROCESS
Working with an established collection like The University of AucklandArt Collection, curators
need to work creatively in order to produce an exhibition that is both innovative and adequately
represents the collection. The University of Auckland Collection includes approximately 140
photographs that are situated around the various campuses and storage facilities. With such a range
to choose from, we approached the task in a practical way. We initially surveyed the works and
found a broad theme emerging images of architecture and nature. Due to the range of locations
housing the pieces, it was important to then establish the works that could be transported to the
venue in time, and from these, we selected a more specific theme.
The Collection was established in 1966 with works from Colin McCahon and

Moving Across The Country Essay
Changes in life are just there, some you can predict and others you can t. Sometimes changes are
huge and others are not. Some sudden changes in life are moving across the country, your mom
and dad remarrying and women starting to become equal to men. Moving across the country is
an enormous change to someone s life. I my personal experience moving across the country is
hard. Especially, when you go from the country to the city as I did. I had to go to a new school,
get new friends, and here about things that I really didn t know how to deal with. It was like
hitting rock bottom after you just got to the top. This shows how moving to one place can make
you feel horrible for no reason what so ever. I had to reinvent myself from country girl to city
girl it was exhausting. This proves how hard it was to change because you are so used to being
completely different. Moving across the country is a big change and it can be hard. When your
mom and dad remarry it is a change you just have to deal, but it s harder to be happy when you
don t like who they married. From my personal experience of my parents getting remarried it is
one of the best or worse things to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Elizabeth Bowen The Demon Lover
Some viewers see Elizabeth Bowen s The Demon Lover as a ghost story. Robert L. Calder essay
on The Demon Lover gives an explanation of the story: he sees it as an allegory representing a
death of World War I and has had an effect on people a second war in their life. As Kathleen
Drover came to the abandoned house, the narrator is quickly to remind that the dangerous
destructive war had taken place. Outside, she sees familiar street unused channel, an unfamiliar
peculiarity had slited up that are silent proof to the war driven her and her family from their
home (Bowen). As Kathleen is looking and examining through the house for some cracks in the
house, Mrs. Drover is reminded by the war that happened. Moving to the country they escaped
the troubles of the war, but as she returns to London she is reminded by the destructive power. In
this story World War II is the second war endured. Will her surroundings affect her? In A More
Sinister Troth: Elizabeth Bowens The Demon Lover, by Robert L. Calder the author says It is a

Book Report On Isaac s Storm

Professor Lambert
Isaac s Storm Book Review
Isaac s Storm, is a tale of self confidence. This Hurricane in 1900 in Galveston was the worst and
deadliest hurricane this country has ever seen. About 6,000 people lost their lives and among
those who died was Isaac Cline s wife. I can tell how guilty he must have felt and how horrific this
time was for Cline, especially because he thought a massive storm could never devastate his
amazing city. The horrific events of what happened in Galveston is only partially told in this
book. Erik Larson s use of Cline s own letters and reports show Cline s own self confidence or
pride and falsifies facts that Cline was the hero he believed himself to be after the Storm surfaced.
Isaac s Storm clearly shows what can happen when human arrogance takes priority over anything
else. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the floodwaters lapping at the walls, he remained in denial. Isaac Cline along with a few of
the people who worked with him, convinced themselves that the storms out of the Caribbean would

region would not get the storm surges. To ignore the signs of the storm s size and intensity was the
ultimate sign of arrogance. The National Weather Service didn t want to create fear, but they
should have been scared or a little more concerned, since other parts of the United States
experienced major disasters before. Not as major as this time obviously, thus the reaction nonchalant

The Return Of Depression Economics
2008 Economics Noble Prize winner and Princeton University professor, Paul Krugman,
translates the roots of modern and prior financial crisis economics. In his book, The Return of
Depression Economics and The Crisis of 2008, Krugman first educates the reader of historical and
foreign financial crises which allows for a deeper understanding of the modern financial system.
The context provided from the historical analysis proves to be a crucial prospective in such a way
that the rest of Krugman s narrative about modern finance continually relates back to the historical
analysis. From there, Krugman analyzes and updates his prior studies done on the Asian financial
crisis. He then applies his knowledge from historical events to the modern day financial struggles
and argues his opinion about how and why our financial world operates the way it does. Krugman
explains his perspective that the world believed that depression economicswas no longer a problem,
however the Asian crisis, Japan s liquidity trap and the Latin American crisis having acted as
warning signals to modern market struggles. Thus he says that this subject needs further
examination and more resources should be poured into it. For Krugman, Depression Economics is
still a relevant problem and should be further studied.
On top of simply translating past and present financial systems, Krugman dissects the
interconnection between economics and politics. Starting with the rise of socialism, many
governments took on

Rule THAT HELP YOU UNDERSTAND THE ROLE OF FAILURE IN BUSINESS Maybe our
very own couple disappointments are lethal, business analyst and Financial Times editorialist
Tim Harford writes in his new book, Adapt: Why Success Always Starts With Failure. This might
be valid, yet we unquestionably don t act like it. At the point when our errors gaze us in the face,
we regularly discover it so disquieting that we pass up a major opportunity for the essential
advantage of coming up short (yes, advantage): the opportunity to get over our inner selves and
return with a more grounded, more brilliant approach. As per Adapt, achievement comes through
quickly settling our mix ups as opposed to getting things right first time. To demonstrate his
point, Harford refers to convincing cases development by experimentation from visionaries as
shifted as choreographer Twyla Tharp and US Forces Commander David Petraeus. I talked with
Harford over email to delve further into the nonsensical lessons of Adapt. What takes after is a
progression of key takeaways on the brain science of disappointment and adjustment, consolidating
bits of knowledge from our discussion and the book itself. The Wrong Way To React To Failure

The Castro Regime And The LGBT Community
Not only did the Castro Regime harass the LGBT community, they imprison many of the openly
homosexual people. During the decades of the 1960s which was precisely when all the new laws
against homosexuals came into being, the sexual act became taboo while the new man: was being
proclaimed and masculinity exalted(Arenas). Life for any person that practice homosexualitywas
tough as a result the fear of imprisonment was their greatest concern. All homosexual acts were
deemed illegal and punishable by years in jail. By 1964, young men were even being persecuted
for having long hair and wearing tight fitting pants (New World Encyclopedia). The Castro
government continued to enforce the Public Ostentation Law following the Revolution.
Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, gay men were routinely imprisoned for soliciting sex in public
locations, government workers lost their jobs because of their homosexuality, and homosexual
artists were censored ( COHA). Eventually, every gay writer and artist was parameterized. That is,
they received a telegram stating that their behavior did not fall within the political and moral
parameters necessary for their jobs. Despite all homosexual people that have been affected by the
laws that were decreed by the government, the artist and writers were often targeted by the
government the most. Thus, this could be because they have a way to express their oppression

The Importance Of Legalizing Assisted Suicide
Did you know, about 57% of physicians today have received a request for physician assisted
suicide due to suffering from a terminally ill patient. Patients that are suffering, or do not have that

to make the choice of euthanasiaso easily. Euthanasia is another word for assisted suicide, which is
getting prescribed help from a doctor to commit suicide. Assisted suicide should not be freely
suggested, or suggested at all. Solutions to this could be regulating assisted suicide, or even
banning it. As a result of assisted suicide, many people will give up on themselves; therefore a ban
is necessary to prevent the death. The background of assisted suicide has formed it into what it is
today.
Over the years assisted suicide has become more and more popular. Debates have happened, and
laws have been made, but the United States have never com into an agreement on whether or not
assisted suicide should be allowed. An article about euthanasia stated the US Supreme Court upheld
laws forbidding physician assisted suicide, but let the door open for states to pass legislation

To Sir John Lade On His Coming Of Age
Welcome to the grown up world of legal age. Experience life at its best with all your own bills,
problems and worries. Happy Birthday. ~Unknown Author This quote, briefly summarizing a
new outlook one can potentially take on life after turning 21, focuses on experiencing life at its
best , yet in the midst of being plagued by a number of new responsibilities such as bills and
other problems. The terse (PSAT Vocab) Happy Birthday at the end serves as a smart aleck
method of introducing a new 21 year old into a true adult role, one with more responsibilities and
worries than have been dealt with before. Just like this quote, the poems To Sir John Lade, on His
Coming of Age by Samuel Johnson, and When I Was One and Twenty by A.E. Housman,
embody messages of advisory to new 21 year olds, embodying the new possibilities and freedoms,
yet also detailing some cautions to take along with new found responsibilities. Both of these works
give counsel and warning about joys and responsibilities of turning 21, however, Johnson s
rendition mainly portrays the joys and excitement of a gained freedom, while Housman stresses the
importance of avoiding foolish mistakes such as carelessly falling in love.
Both of these poems serve to enlighten a new 21 year old on how he should live his life,
including similar messages of advice and warning. The narrators in each of these works speak of a
proverbially care free and affluent lifestyle, encouraging his respective

Litigation Filed For Public Interest Litigation
1.1INTRODUCTION Public interest Litigation (PIL) litigation filed for public interest. It was
started in order to protect the fundamental rights of people who are poor, ignorant or socially and
economically backward in position. Public Interest Litigation is not same as any other ordinary
litigation, it is not filed by one private person against another for the enforcement of a personal
right but it is filed for the protection of public interest. It is litigation introduced in a court of law
for the benefit of the public not by the aggrieved person but by any public spirited citizen or by
any group such as NGOs etc. It is not necessary, for the purpose of exercise of the court s
jurisdiction, that the person whose rights are violated or are likely to be violated should
personally initiate judicial proceeding before the court of law. The normal rule is that if the
personal right or interests are not adversely affected he cannot maintain a Petition. In other words
the person aggrieved or affected alone can maintain a Petition but however the horizon of the law
had been developed into a wider one taking into its fold what is called as Public Interest Litigation
1 ___________________ 1 Public interest litigation is the power given to the public by courts
through judicial activism. However, the individual or the group who is filing the litigation must
prove to the satisfaction of the court that the petition is being filed for a public interest and not for
his personal

  • 2. Colonialism and Imperialism The European, White Male vs. the Other in Heart of Darkness The novella Heart of Darkness has, since it s publication in 1899, caused much controversy and invited much criticism. While some have hailed it s author, Joseph Conrad as producing a work ahead of it s time in it s treatment and criticism of colonialist practices in the Congo, others, most notably Chinua Achebe, have criticized it for it s racist and sexist construction of cultural identity. Heart of Darkness can therefore be described as a text of it s time, as the cultural identity of the dominant society, that is, the European male is constructed in opposition to the other , the other in Heart of Darkness being defined as black and/or female. Notions of cultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the case of the second instance it is somewhat appropriate that the leader s death is announced by one of the people of the group he is seen to have joined. Therefore Africansare constructed as being inferior to Europeans through Conrad s refusal to grant them the power of language and speech and even when they are given the opportunity to speak, Conrad constructs Africans as being largely inarticulate. Thus confirming the superiority of the white race. Conrad further marginalises and degrades the African characters and race not only through the denial of language but also the denial of human form. When Marlow first sees Africans in a small boat on the water, he describes them in terms of their muscles , bones and white teeth , despite also recognizing a vitality and spirit. The disembodiment continues when Marlow encounters the chain gang at the outer station. It is when seeking shade however that Marlow stumbles upon the grove of death. Here he finds emancipated and dying Africans, cast off by their imperialist owners because they are no longer deemed to have monetary value, or economic viability. Instead of feeling revulsion s at this, Marlow dehumanizes the Africans, describing them as bundles of acute angles and noting how they drink on all fours . Thus by denying the Africans their humanity, Conrad constructs a notion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing Suspense In The Sniper And Once Upon A Time Suspense Essay Aaron Little Holder The Sniper and Once Upon a time give off different elements of suspense. When you read these two stories they give off different vibes. In both stories you will see that there are both differences and similarities. In the story The Sniper the element of suspense starts with the setting. The story takes place during the civil war in Ireland. The sniper is isolated and the time of day is twilight. We don t have a lot of information about what is going on during the story. The story is being told by a third person so the reader can only see what the person who is telling the story sees and feel. The mood that is set in the story also adds to the suspense of the story. The images and sounds and the details shared throughout the story lets the reader know that something bad is going to happen. Finally, the plot of the story creates suspense. We are not aware of the background of the characters in the story. The narrator does not share information about the different snipers and what may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story begins with the author telling the story from her point of view. She is home alone and the time of day is night time. The suspense starts when she says that she was aroused by a strange sound. This creates suspense. The author then starts telling herself a bedtime story. She begins telling the story like a fairy tale. In all fairy tales there is a moral. This creates suspense. The story is now being told from a third person s point of view. As the story is being told, the reader can begin to see that the families fears, suspicions and mistrust are getting out of hand. You can see that the family is doing too much and that they are about to put themselves in a situation that is not good. The story starts off with a perfect family in the perfect home, just like a fairy tale starts, however it ends in tragedy. The son dies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Thousand Splendid Suns Character Analysis In A Thousand Splendid Suns and First They Killed My Father, we find the three female characters of Laila and Mariam, and Loung, respectively, in harrowing and dangerous political atmospheres. Both of the political atmospheres described in these two books expose these characters to harsh realities of war, abuse, starvation, and oppression; these characters must also come to terms with a rising body count around them. From Mariam s perspective, we hear that there was looting, murder, and, increasingly, rape, which was used to intimidate civilians and reward militiamen (Hosseini 253). Despite these despotic circumstances, and perhaps in spite of the physical toll they take, the three female characters of these books exhibit extraordinary perseverance as a result of their tumultuous surroundings. The most prevalent and threatening theme that each character experiences first hand, as a result of the dangerous political atmospheres they are exposed to, is starvation; we slowly see each character physically diminished throughout their stories. Loung describes vividly to readers, I can count every rib in my rib cage, but my stomach protrudes outward, bloated like a ball between my chest and hips (Ung 83). Similarly, Mariam recounts how starvation had ravaged Laila s daughter s body: Aziza s ribs began to push through the skin, and the fat from her cheeks vanished. Her calves thinned, and her complexion turned the color of weak tea. When Mariam picked her up, she could feel her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The effect of being famous as an actor is that they have no life, they cannot be themselves because of the society. Behind the scene of each movie, there is their real life, not just the life people think they have. For instance, Hannah Montana is a TV show mostly viewed by kids and teenager. My Personal Assessment My Personal Assessment to Reality Knowing that I was going to track myself on my health habits, I felt the need to change my habits around to make myself seem healthy , however this only lasted two days. This was a check to reality, that my habits are only doing harm to myself and I need to change them. My health habits prior to assessing myself were horrible. • 10. The Student s Chair For An Adult The students desks were rearranged because the students would run into each other and bump into each other with their chairs. There was not enough space between the student s chair for an adult to walk through. Turning those five groups into U shape gives the teacher an opportunity to address every child s work in one place instead of bumping into another child for space. I gave extra space in between the groups for more clear traffic patterns for the children to walk to the carpet, their cubbies, or other areas of the room. After arranging them like this there is even more space in the classroom which hopefully prevents chaos. Another area I modified in this classroom is the Cubby Area. The cubbies in my CT s class are in an L shape against the far leftcorner. Every morning and afternoon the children and pushing and bumping into each other. By putting them straight and against the left wall gives the children more space to gather or put up their belongings in turn makes it safer. There is a large, clear walkway to the cubbies for the students and plenty of space to line up in front of the classroom door. In the top left corner is the new reading area. It has a bookcase that is easily accessible to the students along with two bean bags for the children to sit on while reading. They use the latest technology to achieve more horse power and make the car more comfortable to drive, while maintaining some of the traditional aesthetics and giving it some new flare. Ultimately, both cars are great machines, but looking at the engine specifications, speed/drivability, and aesthetics, the Hellcat prevails over the GT 500. The Dodge Hellcat and the Shelby GT 500 are both notorious for their horsepower but looking at the engine specifications, one can see what makes these cars so powerful. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the Dodge Hellcat is more of a square bodied car the Shelby GT 500 has more curvature. These different styles have unique factors, but one is better designed and uses the body to help the car in performance. The Shelby GT 500 is designed with a wide body that makes the car more stable than its earlier classic models. The rear of the car is squarer than the front, but curves on the edges giving it a rounded look and a good stance. As you move towards the front, it contours to the ground giving the car more downforce as it accelerates. This also helps give the car more traction to the road. The new body style captures some of the older features of the mustang, but brings something new to the mustang era. Meanwhile the Dodge Hellcat does not bring many new features as far as aesthetics, it keeps mainly to the older body style. The Hellcats body style is square from the front to the back. The front end maintains level positioning with the rear giving the car less traction with the road, but a much taller stance than the Shelby GT 500. With this being said the Shelby has come far in its time bringing uniqueness and better performance with the body while the Dodge Hellcat has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Nursing Home Suicide Many nursing home residents, including the elderly residents at Hoosier Christian Village, struggle daily with symptoms of situational depression, anxiety, and various mental illnesses brought on by inactivity, decline in physical and mental competence, and the unavoidable confrontation with death. In addition, many residents are admitted to the residence because of previous mental illnesses; therefore, future development or recurrence of these diseases is nearly inevitable. Studies at several universities worldwide have concluded that the assertion of youth in local assisted living residences has aided tremendously in battling these mental illnesses. They have also conducted research that infers that youth involvement with the elderly in their communities can combat the persistence and development of depression. The suspect was said to have anger issues and a mental illness that he was medicated for. The boy, charged with felony assault and murder, was tried in a Juvenile Court and later sentenced to juvenile rehabilitation. Depending on the crimeand age of a defendant, the Juvenile Justice System decides whether or not to put the case in the hands of the Juvenile Court and try them as children. Due to the defendant s unusual young age he was tried as a child,. Often times fifteen, sixteen, or seventeen year olds are tried as adults, when they should not be. The underlying assumptions about juveniles is that they are not developmentally able to be treated as adults, and that they can be put through rehabilitation programs and change for the better. • 16. Analysis Of Watchman Nee s Song Of Songs The book Song of Songs, by Watchman Nee is about his interpretation of the book in the Bible Song of Songs, written by Solomon. The book in the Bible is basically about the romance between a lover and his beloved. The language speaks of the love in a marriage relationship and the pursuing nature of the two lovers. It is a very touching dialogue and has a lot of meaning hidden in the text. Watchmen Nee brings to life his interpretation of the text and how it relates to believers pursuit of Christ. He also goes into the spiritual aspect of the Biblical text in his interpretations. The read is very deep and informative on what is actually written in the Song of Songs. He gives many insights into the book in the Bible, many that relate to believers now and some that I touched my life. There are many sections of the book Song of Songs ranging from, The Initial Pursuit and Satisfaction, to The Groaning of the Flesh and so on. Each of the sections cover certain verses from the Biblical text and include subsections on the interpretation of verses. The part of the book that touched me the most was in section two, on The Call for Deliverance from the Self, specifically, Failure and Recovery. This section speaks of how the beloved wants to dwell with her lover in his presence, living with the him and his benefits, but not wanting to change her ways to be closer to him. • 17. Genetic Causes Genetic Causes A person s genetic structure, passed on from their parents, is responsible for both their physical and behavioral characteristics. People who have inherited genes responsible for alcoholism from their parents will automatically be prone to addiction. There is not one single gene that passes alcoholism down through one s children. Identifying each specific gene involved in alcoholism is almost impossible, instead, studies have shown that certain gene combinations have a strong relationship with alcoholic disorders. However, some studies have shown that certain combinations of different genes can create a relationship with alcohol addiction. Alcoholism is a medical diagnosis. As such it does not apply merely to heavy drinking, or merely to getting into trouble because of drinking, or getting drunk a specified number of times. The diagnosis of alcoholism applies only to those who manifest the symptoms of addiction. (Keller 1982). Some behavioral genes can also be passed down from one s parents. Those genes could influence a propensity for alcoholism in an individual. Mental and behavioral illnesses include some like depression and schizophrenia. As part of the study, twelve subjects with addictions to alcohol, cocaine, tobacco, cannabis, opiates, and other drugs participated in several days of group therapy and two ayahuasca treatments. Data concerning psychological and behavioral conditions were collected through a series of surveys both before and after the completion of the study. First described academically during the 1950s by Harvard ethnobotanist Richard Schultes, ayahuasca is derived from the Brazilian Banisteriopsis caapi and Psychotria viridis. The resulting brew is highly concentrated with a compound known as dimethyltryptamine (DMT) which causes vivid, dream like hallucinations (3). DMT is found endogenously in many organisms, with small amounts present in the pineal gland of mice and perhaps that of humans. However, because of a family of enzymes in the liver known as monoamine oxidases, ingestion of DMT containing substances has no effect on humans as the compound is quickly broken down. It is for this reason that the ayahuasca brew must be made with the specific species of plants. By boiling the plants for several hours, alkaloids which act as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are released. This inhibits the enzymes from breaking down the DMT and allows the substance to cross the blood brain barrier ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gangs commonly fulfill these two elements. Burnett states that a gangs, formation and maintenance are based on its members bared experience of estrangement from traditional social systems and on the security (emotional and physical) that membership provides (McMillan Chavis) (Burnett, 1999) . The gang s acceptance of the man and the subsequent sense of family satisfies the need for affectively pleasant interactions (McMillan Chavis, 1986), and the desire for protection (Regan) and the ability of gangs to provide such protection secures a man s sense that his welfare is a concern of those with whom he feels acceptance. As Baumsiester and Leary s article illustrates belonging is so necessary to personal happiness that those who experience social isolation are bared from experiencing high levels of happiness (Baumeister Leary). [A hangover] is when you wake up after probably one of the best nights of your life, but you feel like a bag of poop and recently got run over by a train, nursing student Laura Gurke at University of Wisconsin Oshkosh said. The first summary of Andrew Sullivan s essay is a reflection of Andrew Sullivan s stance of the issue. The original essay was in favor of allowing same sex marriage in America. I will, again, try to point out the most influential pieces of argument in the essay.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a basis for these arguments, Sullivan believes that marriage is an important key to the progression of homosexual equality in America. Sullivan is aware of certain churches and religious affiliates that would be in opposition to the marrying of gay couples. Sullivan explains that homosexuals pushing for the permission of gay marriage do not intend to change the doctrines or traditions of any church. The movement s actual desire is the fundamental right to marriage. Sullivan reiterates the hopes of the gay community by expressing their longing for recognition before the law as a married couple. Gays are essentially making the simple request that they be given the same marriage license as any other couple in America who wishes to be married. Advocates of homosexual marriage say they are aiming to strengthen and become a part of the institution. Bennett disagrees and implores that if they were allowed to follow through, and be accepted as an active part of the institution of marriage, they would be, in turn, destroying the very foundations of marriage. Bennett deems that allowing gays to marry would have a profound influence on society. The change from the traditional ideals of marriage would completely redefine the conventional definition of marriage. The argument about whether song lyrics can ever be thought about literature was ignited. Later, it was guaranteed as a piece of literature. Type of claim: This poem is based on claims of value. To reveal author s identity, Mexico is used as a personification in the poem. He belongs to both the country because he claims that he is neither from America nor Mexico. He has assessed view of Mexican with respect to character. He claims the feeling of being from two countries and being recognized with two accents. He is assuming that one day he will be accepted as American s recognition change. Interpretation: The poem is the story of living in the middle of two countries. The singer ensures that he is satisfied with having a place. The song furthermore tries individual like him to be the pride of their personality. The use of Spanish language instead of English is interpreted. The Spanish are the root heritage because of emotional reason and business reason (targeted for the Latin American audience). • 36. Literary Devices In Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven Self Torture Edgar Allen Poe utilizes various literary devices in order to create a dark tone in his poem, The Raven. Poe s use of alliteration and repetition are instrumental to the melodic nature of the work, as well as providing a rather visual representation of his gothic setting. He also utilizes pathos to evoke a response from the reader through emotions (fear, desire, etc.) In addition, the point of view plays a key role in this poem, but its reliability may be questioned. All of these aspects of the poem combine to show the human need to torture oneself and to try to do anything to find optimism in a time of grief and denial. In reality, this way of coping isn t effective and will just hurt the person more. Alliteration is the repetition of consonant sounds in the beginning of a sentence. Poe uses alliteration to add tension within the poem. From my books surcease of sorrow sorrow for the lost Lenore, (Line 10). This example shows alliteration with the use of imagery and makes the lines more meaningful. In addition, it conveys Poe s feeling of sadness and depression. He also uses alliteration to add to the creepy, entrancing mood of the poem as seen in the following example, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before, (Line 26). The following verse from the poem describes the way the character was feeling about the lost of his loved one. From Dulberg 2 the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore, (Line 11). The things I learned from the event is that women are under represented in school sports and in the professional arena. One of the statistics given was by Mayor Eric Garcetti and he said that women s professional teams make zero dollars per event compared to men s professional teams making $260,000. And, the reason is because Title 9 does not apply to NWA because it is a non profit. For me this statement was not surprising but, I would have thought that there would be some types of laws and regulations against this type of discrimination. Moreover, President Johnson did a nice job presenting the statistics found in the Report on the Status of Women and Girls in California. • 38. Analysis Of Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption In Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption the prison acts as a microcosm reflecting the structures of the capitalist society to what extent do you agree with this view? One critic named Terry Eagleton, stated It is capitalism, not Marxism that trades in futures. This quote alone suggests the extent of what capitalism is to some Marxist critiques and this one is suggesting that the future is traded upon capitalism which relates to King s Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption as the prison system does determine the future of inmates yet inside the prison there is a capitalist structure. I will look at a plethora of characters in the novella and explore how their roles in the prison are used to reflect capitalist society: Andy a bourgeoisie socially but a proletariat politically, Red who goes under the system whom also, serves the proletariat even though he is one himself and the warden that uses his role as the bourgeoisie for corruption and power over the inmates. Despite the inmates being in a confined space and managed by the outside world. It could be argued that the Shawshank prison is formulating a society of their own. Kings use of the character, Andy, is vague. As it could be argued that his role changes throughout the novella. It could be said that there are many interpretations to where Andy s character develops as he can be measured by his political and social class as we see done by the prisoners and the wider society. Reiman wrote a book titled the rich get richer and the poor get prison this pragmatically shows that those who are poor go to prison. However, this is not the case with Andy due to the fact before he was in prison he was a successful banker so in fact he was not poor, opposing the view, that Reiman is signifying. Somewhat suggesting that King is stating that society could have an impact on any group of people regardless of what the backgrounds are or the backgrounds of the individual. Andy was a banker before he came to the Shawshank prison. In some lens he would be perceived as a bourgeoisie because of the class that would have been in. However, from a political lens it would be evident that Andy could be a proletariat for the ranks of the company that he had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Duality And Sensitivity Essay 6Duality and Sensitivity The optimal solution for a linear programming problem can be calculated by utilizing the simplex method. Yet, we may still ponder on whether we have truly discovered the optimal solution of our linear model. Furthermore, we could be concerned on what to do with the surplus of resources at our hands. In addition, the parameters that we utilized to formulate our model may not reflect the actual parameters. Those values may have been simply estimates that would guide us in identify a best possible outcome. Therefore, we are required to conduct further analysis and determine if indeed we have achieved optimization. In linear programming, analyzing the concept of duality and sensitivity is extremely useful. It gives us reassurance that our optimal solution would be feasible in reality. If it was not the best solution, we can now focus on how to reach the optimal solution and optimize our given objective. The first issue that we may encounter is whether we utilized our surplus of resources wisely as we optimize our objective function. All linear programming problems have an associated linear programming problem called the dual [4]. We call our main problem the primal and the associated problem the dual. Analyzing the relationship of the optimization of both problems will give us good insight in weather resources were utilized wisely. The dual problem can be formulated by alternating our primal problem. If the primal problem s objective ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Photography Is A Culture, Not Just A Medium INTRODUCTION Photography is a culture, not just a medium. Photography has been used as an exploitative tool, an explorative tool, and an artistic tool. A photograph can be a snapshot of time, a record, a detail, a shift, a perspective, an emotion. In curating photography, I had to learn how to create conversations and comparisons between images, whilst simultaneously letting each work retain its individuality. There is no one meaning in a photograph. The intrinsically challenging task was to provide points of entry into the works and elucidate the broad theme of the exhibition, whilst allowing counter narratives and alternative readings to exist. THE PRELIMINARY PROCESS Working with an established collection like The University of AucklandArt Collection, curators need to work creatively in order to produce an exhibition that is both innovative and adequately represents the collection. The University of Auckland Collection includes approximately 140 photographs that are situated around the various campuses and storage facilities. With such a range to choose from, we approached the task in a practical way. We initially surveyed the works and found a broad theme emerging images of architecture and nature. Due to the range of locations housing the pieces, it was important to then establish the works that could be transported to the venue in time, and from these, we selected a more specific theme. The Collection was established in 1966 with works from Colin McCahon and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his book, The Return of Depression Economics and The Crisis of 2008, Krugman first educates the reader of historical and foreign financial crises which allows for a deeper understanding of the modern financial system. The context provided from the historical analysis proves to be a crucial prospective in such a way that the rest of Krugman s narrative about modern finance continually relates back to the historical analysis. From there, Krugman analyzes and updates his prior studies done on the Asian financial crisis. He then applies his knowledge from historical events to the modern day financial struggles and argues his opinion about how and why our financial world operates the way it does. Krugman explains his perspective that the world believed that depression economicswas no longer a problem, however the Asian crisis, Japan s liquidity trap and the Latin American crisis having acted as warning signals to modern market struggles. Thus he says that this subject needs further examination and more resources should be poured into it. For Krugman, Depression Economics is still a relevant problem and should be further studied. Public Interest Litigation is not same as any other ordinary litigation, it is not filed by one private person against another for the enforcement of a personal right but it is filed for the protection of public interest. It is litigation introduced in a court of law for the benefit of the public not by the aggrieved person but by any public spirited citizen or by any group such as NGOs etc. It is not necessary, for the purpose of exercise of the court s jurisdiction, that the person whose rights are violated or are likely to be violated should personally initiate judicial proceeding before the court of law.
