In this close viewing I will be using the films Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, directed by Edgar
Wright, to show significant aspects/techniques of different scenes used in both films. I will be
focusing on the features of sound effects, dialogue and comparing near same scenes within two
different films and the aspects that Edgar Wright was trying to cover.
Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz both have fence jumping scenes. In Shaun of the Dead, the
scene is opened with Shaun opening the gate quite forcefully along with the rest of his team.
Shaun says The Winchester s just over there and David says in a sarcastic tone, Just over there
behind the 20 garden fences? When David is saying the last bit of his sentence the camera pans
over the fences in which they have to jump to show audiences what they have to jump over. For
example, to show why David is being sarcastic towards Shaun, and why it s being used in that
particular scene, Shaun then says What s the matter, David? Never taken a shortcut before? , and
smirks while turning behind, and tries to jump over the fence but ends up making the fence fall
over. He then picks himself back up and subtly tries to make it seem like he didn t just break the
fence. The background noise in this scene is filled with car alarms, house alarms and deep music
/sound effects. This creates the effect of a crisis situation, as they are in a zombie apocalypse.

In the award winning novel Spill, Simmer, Falter, Wither by Sara Baume there is lots of detail
using imagery and a strong unbreakable bond between a man and his dog. During this novel
there will be two characters a 57 year old bitter man named Ray and an eager one eyed dog
named One Eye. While these two are very similar in many ways they also have differences and
challenges that unfold during the novel. Both Ray and One Eye are similar in that they both share
sadness. They both didn t have moms growing up. Ray s mom abandoned him when he was just a

Deregulation Act in 1978 in North America and similar acts worldwide the aviation industry has

By pooling resources alliances can reduce unit costs and achieve greater cost efficiencies through
more efficient utilisation of resources such as sharing landing slots, maintenance teams, IT systems
and labour. Airlines also have the opportunity of engaging in joint purchasing agreements and
make considerable savings. When we look at the Star Alliance which was founded in 1997 we see
that they have made considerable savings from joint purchasing agreements. Earlier this year The

form an opinion that could help find a solution. As a result, that person becomes problematic if
they attempt to find a solution. People are always biased to the knowledge they have, whether it is
true or false, a lot or a little. When innocent people look to solve a problem, they are biased to their
innocence, which often causes more harm than good. In The Quiet American, by Graham Greene,
Alden Pyle is an innocent, and therefore problematic, character. The novel is set in 1950s Vietnam
during the Vietnam War. Pyle is representative of the American forces in the war as his primary
goal is to stop communism, and he surmises that he knows the best way to do it. Because of this,
he is an example of American exceptionalism, believing that he is most apt to solve the crisis in
Vietnam, when in reality he does not have enough knowledge of the situation at hand, causing
