Changeable Medical Center Case Study
Consider the following scenario: Relationships among workers in the ICU of Changeable Medical
Center are at best, strained. In the past six months, the unit has expanded from 8 to 12 beds, changed
to a different electronic health record vendor, and changed unit managers. Ten of thirty registered
nurses have resigned or left, two of the remaining twenty are out on sick leave, and absenteeism is at a

constructively with the many problematic relationship issues. After reading Chapters 7 9, select a

The Threat of Global Warming May Lead to Global Cooling Essay
Over the last few years almost everyone has heard that the earth is warming. Also, almost everyone
has heard the pleas to go green and reduce carbon emissions, led by former Vice President Al Gore.
Even though there is not a truly accurate definition of global warming it can be roughly defined as a
rise in average global temperature according to Laurence Pringle s book Global Warming Assessing
the Greenhouse Threat (19). Global Warming Assessing the Greenhouse Threat also bring up that the
average temperature data that scientist are using only goes back to 1860 giving scientists today only
150 years of temperature data. Also, with this current warming, even with humans contributing to the
rising average global temperature, scientist today ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Picture this, some years from now winters will be exceptionally harsh in the Northern Hemisphere.
Crops that were grown in the northern United States, southern Canada, and the northern countries in
Europe are unable to grow any more. Also, glaciers that had been receding in the warm period of the
late 1990s and throughout the 2000s grow and push in to areas that had become habitable during the
warm period. If one thinks this is fiction, it has happened before. The last time that a little ice age
occurred it began around 1350 and lasted until the late 19th century. Also, this little ice age was
preceded by a warm period with similar temperature patterns as today s warming trends. Most of this
data has been gathered from sediment samples from Bermuda and ice core samples from Greenland (
Earth s Climate History ).
During the Medieval time from the years 700 to 1300 there was very warm time in the history of the
world. This time is referred to as the Medieval Warm Period or the Medieval Climatic Optimum (
Earth s Climate History ). This period is believed to have peaked around the year 1100. The climate
was considerably warmer and milder than it was before this time period. With this climate change
food was able to be grown in many areas where they were previously not grown. Some examples of
this are grapes being grown in southern England, and cereal crops successfully being cultivated in
Iceland ( Earth s Climate History ). Also, much of the

Research Based Proposal
Research Based Proposal Essay
The developed world deprives children of a basic and inalienable right: unstructured outdoor play.
Children today have substantially less access to nature, less free range, and less time for independent
play than previous generations had. This quote is from the research based paper titled, Where the Wild
Things Should Be: Healing Nature Deficit Disorder through the Schoolyard. This article touches many
aspects of how children now a days need more exposure to nature like it was on the older days.
Currently, there are many playgrounds around the United States and even more the world. This article

Although there is arguments that playgrounds can be made too safe where they are no fun are made,
for the sake of the argument I will focus on the side that wants them really safe. This side of the
arguments believes that all schoolyards need to have rules such as to, Avoid playgrounds with non
impact absorbing surfaces, such as asphalt, concrete, grass, dirt or gravel. Recommended surface
materials include: sand, pea gravel, wood chips, mulch and shredded rubber. Rubber mats, synthetic
turf and other artificial materials are also safe surfaces and require less maintenance. Surfacing should
be at least 12 inches deep and extend at least 6 feet in all directions around stationary equipment.
Depending on the height of the equipment, surfacing may need to extend farther than 6 feet. For
swings, make sure that the surfacing extends, in the back and front, twice the height of the suspending
bar. So if the top of the swing set is 10 feet high, the surfacing should extend 20 feet. Along with all
the regulations and rules, they would hop to also have it well supervised and inspected. They say that
qualified personal need to constantly be checking up on the schoolyards and maintaining them.
Although this side may have some good reasons about children safety it still may not good

The Noble Knight In Thomas Malory s Morte Darthur
During Malory s Morte Darthur , the noble knights such as Lancelot, Gawain, Agravain, and Gareth
represent the ideals of knightliness. Malory seems to be implying that Sir Lancelot although King
Arthur s biggest betrayer was still the noblest of knights despite his adultery. Sir Lancelot during the
story is portrayed as the measure in which all knights worth is metered by. As just a knight Lancelot is
held as the man of which many worship, slightly more than even King Arthur, making Lancelot the
main idol of the text. Being a knight nobility, honor, and worship was an imperative skill in the role of
leadership, for a leader often were those who had proven themselves on and off the battlefield. For
others to look over Sire Lancelot and Queen Guinevere s secret affair insinuates that they respected Sir
Lancelot more than King Arthur. In Sir Thomas Malory s Morte Darthur the implication of the story is
that honor is obtained by holding up to the responsibilities one may have more so than relationships
they are involved in. Sir Agravain and Sir Mordred brought the Queen and Sir Lancelot s affair up
amongst the group of knights. To a reader, it shows a semi dislike to Sir Lancelot that they both would
make such noise over this. Sir Gawain reminds them both that they, must remember how often time
Sir Lancelot hath rescued the King and Queen (483). Gawain looks to Sir Lancelot as an honorable
knight disbelieving that his fellow knights would accuse him of such accusations.

I don t know if this is going to be it for me, but it sure feels like it. I ve never felt this way about
anyone before. I constantly have butterflies around this man. I know for a fact, I am truly in love with
this man. This man that I am in love with is Isaac Austin Clark.
I met Isaac in vocal class when I was in the seventh grade. We were both with other people at the time.
I always thought he was pretty darn handsome and when I was around him I d get butterflies. We
talked every day in class and sat by each other when we could. When summer came around, we lost

Finally, the night of June 20, 2014, we were sitting in my living room on the floor, watching a movie.
He looked over at me and asked me to be his girlfriend, and I shyly of course said yes! We have now
been together for a little over three years. It hasn t been the easiest considering he is in college, while I
am still in high school. Being in a long distance relationship can really suck at times, but it is not
impossible when a love like ours exist. One of our favorite memories together is when Isaac took me
to OKC to the ice skating rink in Brick Town. We had endless laughter and smiles this day. It was easy
for me to get the hang of ice skating, but not so much for Isaac. At one point I was recording him and
he was about to fall. He had the scariest look on his face, it was the funniest thing ever! He ended up
not falling though.
Isaac is the greatest person to come into my life. He always supports me and encourages me in
everything I do. He cares for me and makes me smile more than anyone has before. He brings true
happiness into my life. We choose to love each other, even in the moments when we struggle to like
each other. Love is a commitment, not a feeling. Love is being devoted to one another. Love is to

Analysis Of The Movie Butterfield Stars Essay
Butterfield stars as Bruno, a curious, stubborn eight year old whose family is relocated to the
countryside when his father receives a new job as a head member of the Nazi party, working for the
Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camp. Lonely and frustrated from having no one his own age to
talk to, Bruno explores past the limits of his backyard. He comes across a barbed wire fence, with a
young boy named Schmuel (played by Scanlon) on the other side wearing what Bruno perceives to be
striped pajamas. The two boys strike up a friendship through the fence, with Bruno coming to visit
Shmuel almost daily. Neither boy grasps that Schmuel is in a death camp, and when Schmuel
confesses to Bruno that he is Jewish, Bruno doesn t not seem to understand why that matters. Curious
as to what really lies on the other side of the fence, Bruno and Schmuel plot for him to sneak into the
camp, which leads to the demise of both of them. The film is more emotion based rather than fact
based, in an attempt to appeal to the audiences symphonies rather than instruct them on a historical
event. It has been criticized for its accuracy, specifically pertaining to the ages of the boys. Many
critics claim that boys as young as Schmuel would never have been at Auschwitz, because all children
too young to work were gassed upon arrival. Others argue that the film is symbol of innocence, and
the two boys reflect how children are able to look past each other s differences easier than adults.

Elements of Network Security
Introduction
The primary objective of a network security system is to, in a cost effective manner, balance
convenient access to legitimate users and inaccessibility to attackers. In a nutshell, the goal is to
prevent connectivity to anyone intending to cause harm to the network. The harm to which this paper
refers can come in the following forms:
1. Application level security threats, such as e mail viruses and attachments.
2. Threats to network infrastructure devices.
3. Theft of network connectivity services.
4. Unauthorized access from internal and external sources.
5. Denial of service attacks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
28, 2001). Because this is an automated system, it depends on a mechanical process of discerning
what is good or bad. This at times can lead to false positives or negatives, or the blocking of a
legitimate user and giving access to a system violator. This weakness in the Cisco IDS requires that an
additional form of violation detection be used.
In addition to the IDS, LADWP has a staff of technicians who provide continuous network
monitoring. In addition to keeping track of the alarms detected by the IDS Director Platform, these
technicians also use other tools to keep an eye on network traffic levels, as well as performing routine
vulnerability probing. One key tool used is Lucent s VitalSuite. This tool uses real time event analysis,
which helps to identify network resources that have exceeded acceptable levels.
To properly use VitalSuite, the technicians establish what they believe to be normal network activity.
This norm is then used as a baseline to help in the identification of any abnormal network traffic. Once
the baseline is established, levels of severity are set. The levels are minor, major and critical, with
critical meaning immediate action is required. The only time the system alarms is when a critical error
is detected. During normal operations, the technicians monitor VitalSuites display, looking for unusual
events. These events can

Rorschach In Alan Moore s The Watchmen Essay
Through the character Rorshach, The Watchmen explores the issues of nature verses nurture for him.
Moore adds that a super hero, can be a psychological argument. A super hero is neither born nor
shaped by environment, it is the creation of an alter ego to suppress childhood conflicting inner issues.
Rorshach dealt with issues as a young child that rationalized in his mind to hide behind a costume and
a mask in order to live.
The first character the book introduces to the reader to is Rorschach, Walter Joseph Kovacs, one of the
main characters. Rorschach reveals his past and why he wears a mask on page eleven. Walter s past is
revealed in chapter six when he is examined by a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist gives Walter ink blots

raped and murder. He formed an opinion about society that they were inhumane and cruel. Walter
lashed back at the rapist. While talking to the psychologist it is revealed that Walter found the rapist
who had murdered the girl. The rapist had fed Kitty s flesh and bones to his two German shepards.

was Rorschach his created alter ego could now flourish and develop. When Rorschach murdered the

is displayed when Walter mutters mother before he slays the dogs. Because of this incident and his

The Great Gatsby And Death Of A Salesman
Ambition. It is a vital characteristic required for an individual wanting achieve their goals. Being
ambitious alone is crucial to success as it is the drive that propels one toward it. It is and always will
be a human trait. Perhaps that is why the theme of ambition has been so prevalent in literature. It is the
dominant theme in The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald, William Shakespeare s Macbeth, Death of
a Salesman by Arthur Miller and The Wolf of Wall Street by Jordan Belfort. In this essay, I will
discuss the two ways over ambition can cause an individual s downfall. The first is setting
unattainable goals which we can see in The Great Gatsby and Death of a Salesman. The second is
trying to achieve your goals unethically, seen in Macbeth and in The Wolf of Wall Street . The idea of
ambition and striving for achievement is highly valued by our society today. However, many people
forget that too much of anything can be catastrophic.
Ambition is a theme that many books attempt to touch on, yet very few are truly able to explore it.
F.Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby published in 1925 is a prime example of a novel that eloquently
presents this theme. The story follows Jay Gatsby, the ambitious self made man. Gatsby s desire is to
be reunited with his lost love, Daisy Buchanan. His ambitious journey toward his green light leads
him from poverty to wealth, but in the end, it is also the cause of his untimely death. Gatsby s over
ambition is shown in his obsession

Effects Of Poverty In Nigeria
Poverty is a multidimensional phenomenon. Poverty is a denial of choices and opportunities, a
violation of human dignity. It means lack of basic capacity to participate effectively in society. It
means not having enough to feed and clothe a family, not having a school or clinic to go to; not having
the land on which to grow one s food or a job to earn one s living, not having access to credit. It means
insecurity, powerlessness and exclusion of individuals, households and communities. It means
susceptibility to violence, and it often implies living on marginal or fragile environments, without
access to clean water or sanitation. It has risen in Nigeria with almost 100 million people living on less
than $1 a day, despite economic growth, statistics have shown. The ethical theory associated with this
is the egoism theory which I picked as in place of the Nigerian leaders who only look out for their
families. Comparing this economy and government to that of Dubai is overwhelming as everyone
knows Dubai for its vast expense of riches and brilliant government.
In Nigeria, widespread and severe poverty is a reality. It is a reality that depicts a lack of food, clothes,
education and other basic amenities. Severely poor people lack the most basic necessities of life to a
degree that it can be wondered how they manage to survive. There are several effects and deficiencies
associated with poverty in Nigeria. One of the main effects of poverty is poor health, as is reflected

The Rise Of Zionism And Arab Nationalism
The rise of Zionism and Arab Nationalism in the nineteenth century triggered major political tensions
in the region of Palestine. The conflict among the Zionists and Arab Nationalists is primarily due to
the politics of territory and is essentially not comprised of religious opposition. In fact, before the
advent of Zionism and Arab Nationalism, Jews and Palestinians shared a local identity due to mutual
tolerances. This identity, which took precedence over religion, created a vivacious community with its
own unique set of traditions and customs shared among the Jews, Muslims and Christians. However,
following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the Zionists whom were seeking a safe haven from
Jewish prejudices in mainly Eastern Europe, proclaimed their return to Palestine. Zionists sought the
territory of Palestine as the official land of the Jews because of their ancient homeland ties.
Furthermore, as Zionism progressed, Arabs Nationalists were threatened by the ideology and the vast
Jewish immigration to Palestine. In the Arab point of view, Zionism emerged as a European
movement, which appeared to be another attempt by Western imperialism to subordinate Muslims to
Europeans. Although Arab Nationalism and Zionism were similar in nature, these two identities were
destined to clash primarily due to their irreconcilable nationalistic aspirations and cultural
characteristics.

the subject been exposed to unreasonable stress or risk without his or her knowledge (Hair, Celsi,

Kramer Vs Framer Essay
Upon reviewing the film Kramer VS. Kramer, I will provide a brief summary and cover Semantic
interference, Psychological interferences, and Selective listening.
The movie Framer VS. Framer is about a couple going through a divorce affecting their son named
Billy. The mother Joanna Kramer leaves her husband and son for her well being. Ted Kramer is then
forced to raise his son with a little help from another friend who is also a single parent named
Margaret. Ted later has to cope with obstacles, but maintains a stronger relationship with his son.
First let s look at Semantic interference. The words you choose (Understanding Human
Communication). Throughout the movie Ted had to pick his words wisely whenever Billy would ask a
question about his mother. This is because even though Joanna and Ted were split up she was still
Billy s mother. Another example of Semantic interferences in the movie Kramer VS. Kramer was
when Joanna wanted her son back, Ted and Joanna had to go to court which means they had to pick
there words wisely weather if they were appropriate for parenting Billy. Another example is when Ted
is talking on the phone to Joanna s friend named Margaret talking about Joanna leaving him and he

Psychoactive Drugs Chapter 2 Analysis
Chapter two discusses how psychoactive drugs influence our behavior by it reaching the central
nervous system first, the most common routes being inhalation, oral administration and injection. I
found it interesting that heroin can cross the blood brain barrier a 100 times more than morphine
because it is more liquid soluble. Having stress when taking any of the psychoactive drugs only
increases the effects it will have on the brain. Chemicals that normally could not go through the blood
brain barrier will now have access under stress. Combining stress with the use of psychoactive drugs
can lead to more serious risk such as drug toxicity and even overdose. Another issue that I found
fascinating in chapter two were the drug stimulants being

Surely, people want to know whether men or women are on top of these hierarchies. They also want to
know which ethnic groups hold these positions. Looking at the workforce, women and minorities are
struggling to advance in their careers. They are the ones who are mostly affected by the glass ceiling.
This gives Caucasian men the upper hand in their battles to reach top management positions. In our
organizations, men s experiences are assumed to be the norm, while women s experiences are looked
down upon. Women s experiences are considered beneath those of men, narrowly categorized, or often
times excluded altogether. We see more women positions in the Administrative or Clerical fields and
not so often in the Technical fields.
When compared to men, women are often left behind when it comes to advancement even if they have
the same educational background and work experiences. But the work place is now changing. Women
are shooting to the top of high tech companies, dot.com startups and Internet favorites, with a speed
that promises to permanently change the way we think about women, work and power (Gerber, 2000).
Despite women s advances in the workforce, they still strive to emerge and grow out of male
oppression and move to a higher social position where they belong.

The Princess s Darkest Cuts
Engagement rings come in various cuts, carat weights and styles, and halo rings are timeless in their
beauty and popularity. Hailing from the 1920s, halo rings have dazzled celebrities and non celebrities
alike with their unique and artistic designs. The halo, or multiple halos, encircles the main gemstone
adding an ornate sparkle and the illusion of greater size that can t be achieved by a solitary stone.
Although solitaires are more prevalent, halos are certainly making their mark on brides to be
everywhere due to their lavish and majestic appearance. When choosing a halo ring keep in mind that
the sky is the limit and all budgets can be accommodated.

It s sharp, square edges give it the flexibility to work with almost any style ring especially the halo and
tend to be less expensive per carat than rounds. Carat for carat, the crown surface area of a princess is
about 10 percent less than a same weight round. However, the corner to corner measure is typically 15
percent greater, thus creating the illusion of greater size.
The Oval
The oval cut is similar to the round in brilliance and its elongated shape gives the illusion of greater
carat weight. It is ideal if you like the look of a round, but desire a more unique look. Ovals can vary
in degree of how narrow or fat they are and the elongated shape can make the finger appear longer or
slimmer. Evaluating color and clarity of the oval is subjective, so when choosing this cut you may find
it to be less optimal than all of the others.
The Pear
A combination of the round and marquis cuts; the pear is unique in that it is worn with the point
toward the hand so that when shown to an admirer it has the appearance of, well, a pear. It s ideal
appearance should be that of excellent symmetry where the point lines up with the apex of the rounded
end. Color and clarity, here are also subjective and the point of larger pears may seam darker than the

Andy s Gift Essay
Andy s Gift
No matter who you are, the world won t stop existing if you disappear. Your beloved ones will just
learn to live without you. Andy s Gift , written by Michel Faber in 2001, tells a story about how hard it
can be to return to normality, when you ve been cut off from the outside world for so long. The world
is constantly changing and if you re not there, it s just too bad, the lives of everyone else s will
continue. That is what happens for the protagonist Andrew. Occasionally he d peek out at the world,
and for his peek hole he d use the shrieking idiot the nursing staff called Andy. (p. 1, l.3 4)
For 5 years, Andrew has been trapped in the body of a shrieking idiot called Andy. Finally, a miracle
happens and he breaks free. He gets to be Andrew again, but there s a problem. His wife has changed,
she is no longer the woman he married, his oldest son doesn t seem excited about his return and his
two youngest kids think the madman Andy, is better at howling.
In the beginning, the story takes place at a nursing home. Andrew wakes up in an institutional pyjama
and is greeted by an old man, who s sitting in the bed right next to him.
When Andrew answers back, it is to the old man s surprise. Ha! Good for you, Andy boy! said his
neighbour, as if impressed. (p. 1, l. 11) The nurse who s arriving next doesn t believe the old man ...

The Assassination of John F Kennedy
The Assassination of John F Kennedy
From source B we can learn many things about JFK s assassination. We learn that JFK was hit by 2
shots the second one killing him apparently hitting from the back, into his right temple.
Source B also stated that 3 shots were fired from the sixth floor of the Texas schoolbook depository.
The rifleman was named Lee Harvey
Oswald. Source B declares the assassination weapon to be a Mannlincher
carcano rifle. Source B written by the Warren Commission states
Oswald had no accomplices. To me this seems quite unbelievable. People who knew him in the
marines said he had a Pathetic Shot. The gun he apparently used would not be a weapon likely to be

Source F doesn t really explain that Oswald acted alone. It states he was on the Fair Play for Cuba

missile crisis.
Study sources G, H, I and J
How useful are these sources in providing information to support the view that Lee Harvey Oswald

These sources are useful in providing information that Oswald didn t act alone in the assassination of
JFK.
Source G shows eyewitness accounts contradict the Warren report. Jean

as she was familiar to guns. Gordon
Arnold a young soldier heard a shot come from behind him, as he was standing by grassy knoll.
Source G is unreliable, as two witnesses contradicts one another.
Bonnie Williams said he ate lunch on the sixth floor and left at
12:20, he recalls nobody being there. While watching the parade Arnold

MANET (Mobile Ad hoc Network) is a infrastructure less network and connected without wired in the
network. It is self determine in any direction and also changes the connections from one system to

The p2p is sharing and distributing the digital media using network topology. The p2p file sharing
method makes large networks in which nodes share files directly with each other using decentralized
server. It can share the files for example audios, images, games, files, videos, graphics, text, and etc.
MANET have some advantages that are mobility, cost effective, less time consuming, self

In disconnected MANET, p2p file sharing systems is based on two methods flooding based and

Can cats survive all falls?
Topic: Animals, Science
Ratings: Fascinating, Informative
Description: William Shakespeare referred to the myth A cat has nine lives in his play Romeo and
Juliet, which arguably came from cats ability to always land on their feet. The biped of ancient Egypt
was fascinated by the feline arts of swiftness and tenacity for their remarkable survivals from high
falls. In this short, interesting talk, Leon shares the science behind these amazing skills of cats.
5 years ago, a cat in the US city of Boston survived a fall from a 19 storey window and only bruised
her chest. How do cats survive falls from such great heights? Can they survive all falls?
The answer is obviously ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dead cats don t talk, and they don t go into hospital records.
In recent decades, all of the cat fall statistics come from pet hospitals. Crazy experiments of throwing
cats out of tall buildings don t exist. As a result, these statistics contain inevitable margins of errors all
of the cats sent to pet hospitals were the ones which their owners believed that could be saved, so the
cats that died straight away were not accounted for. Can you imagine an owner asking a vet for
treatment holding a pile of bloody flesh?
In contrary, unless there were life risks, owners tend not to send cats who fell from lower floors to the
hospitals. This explains why cats that fell from lower floors have a higher odds of injury than cats that
fell from higher floors. The 90% survival rate from the studies was not the survival rate of cats that
fell, but of those that were sent to hospitals for treatment.
High survival rates can t explain why cats are good at falling. Cats that die on their way to the
hospital, ones that weren t discovered in time after the fall, and those that could not be saved or died
instantly couldn t affect the 90% survival rate because the statistics didn t include these unlucky

The Devil and Tom Walker
In the short story The Devil and Tom Walker , the author shows greed by the main character selling his
soul for a large treasure, being a cheap and greedy moneylender, and the lack of the main character
and his wife sharing the wealth between each other in order to show that people will do anything for
money and become rich.
The Devil and Tom Walker was written by Washington Irving. Washington was a very famous
American author. Washington Irving was born in New York on April 3, 1783. In his childhood he only
went through a basic education. During this time, he showed interest in reading and writing

The devil does this in order to obtain Tom Walkers soul. As a moneylender, Tom Walker has very bad
morals. When he is a moneylender he puts people out of bussiness and tries to make profit off the
peoples losses. Washingtong Irving descrbies Tom Walker as, Thus Tom was universal friend of the
needy, and acted like a friend in need ; that is to say, he always exacted good pay and good security. In
proportion to the distress of the applicant was the hardness of the terms. He accumulated bonds and
mortgages gradually squeezing his customers closer and closer, and sent them at length, dry as a
sponge, from his door (33). Tom Walker doesn t seem to care about what his afterlife has in store for
him. Everything he is doing is just making him worse as a person. This shows how Tom Walker was
greedy and how some people will do anything to make money.
Washington Irving also shows the theme of greed by how Tom Walker was a very cheap and greedy
moneylender. During the time of this setting in The Devil and Tom Walker, people tried to do anything
to make money. Joyce states, while many had a keen sense of business, pothers were unethical in their
dogged pursuit of riches (102). This statement illustrates Tom Walker very. When Tom was discussing
the terms of the deal with the devil, Tom wanted to make his interest rate even higher then what the

The Inflammatory Response in the Pathogenesis of Asthma
In this article Dr. Foaud explains the inflammatory response that occurs in the airways of asthma
patients and how the different types of cells and respiratory epithelial interact in the process.
Respiratory epithelium, mast cells, eosinophils, basophils, and leukocytes all play an critical part in
not only the inflammatory response but also in the way that they may be utilized to inhibit the
response to help treat asthma. The article also explains how chemokines recruit inflammatory cells to

adherence to management regimens.
One study concluded that almost 75 % of asthma patients seeking emergency room treatment were
overweight or obese (Jilcy, Aronow, Chandy, 2012). Being obese or overweight can lead to a
compromise in ventilation and restrictions in tidal volume (VT). Studies have show that weight loss
eases symptoms of asthma and if possible a weight loss program should be implemented (Jilcy et al.,
2012).
Decreasing exposure to allergens in the environment, workplace and food can help lower the number
of exacerbations. It is thought that continued exposure to allergens can lead to chronic inflammation
and airway remodeling. The elimination of dander, dust mites, dust, and other allergens has been
shown to alleviate symptoms and should be made a priority especially smoking. For homes that have
pets or other sources of allergens installing filters on the HVAC registers in home will help reduce the
amount of allergens put back into the

The Life Of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol
The Victorian Period lasted from 1832 to 1901 under Queen Victoria s reign. The culture revealed in
this era was a time of rapid change, social inequality, industrialization, supernatural and religious
beliefs, and was accurately reflected in the works of Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol. Roles of
men and women were strictly defined, as were economic statuses. The hustle and bustle of the streets
led to illnesses. Working conditions were destitute and unsanitary. Children often had little to no
education, unless very fortunate. New advancements in technology arose, after the industrialization of
the United Kingdom began.
As a result of Queen Victoria s reign, a strict division between social classes was defined.

The cotton, coal, trade, and ship building industries were booming. Aside from shaping the historical
reality of the time, Dickens represented narrative pathways, perspectival frames, and models of
behavior that guided his modern society audience towards finding their places in a rapidly changing
industrial age(Fiske). He wrote the entertaining novella, A Christmas Carol, as an escape from the
world of modernity, into a world of spirituality. Regarding the religious beliefs in the Victorian Period,
Victorians were primarily characterized by Christianity. The term Victorian is familiar with social
decorums that encompass strong religious customs(Coleman). As a product of industrialization, the
traditional British Christmas we know today is not found in the midsts of history(Flanders). Charles
Dickens was partially responsible for Victorian England s regained Christmas spirit. He reflected the
themes of redemption, family, merriness, and Christmas spirit in his narrative. For example, The
Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. Oh, Jacob Marley! Heaven and the Christmas Time be
praised for this! I say it on my knees, old Jacob, on my knees!, Dickens demonstrated Scrooge s
redemption and new found Christmas spirit(Dickens 82). Religion during the Victorian Period had a
vast impact on Dickens writing, he wrote stories through his belief in Christianity. In addition to
strong religious beliefs, Victorians turned to supernatural ways of reasoning. Due

I chose to write my informative speech about Golden Retrievers and my purpose of this speech was to
give the class more information about the dog breed Golden Retrievers. In this self evaluation I will be

My two strengths would include using and citing multiple sources and having effective transitions. My
two weaknesses would include inadequate direct eye contact and having a weak introduction. First, I

During the transitions I made sure to take a step back and a step forward. I did this by reviewing what
I had just talked about and I then introduced the information that I was about to cover. Another
considerable aspect of the transitions was that I used a blank slide in between the main topics to that
when I was transitioning people were focused on what I was saying and not what was on the slide
show. Also, there were some difficulties that came about during my speech, one of those difficulties
being inadequate direct eye contact. During the length of the speech there were not many time where I
looked up and talked directly to my classmates. Something I could have done better to improve this
would be to practice even more to ensure that I wouldn t need to look at my notecards and slides as
often. I also could have practiced when to look up and have a successful glance at my audience to
have improved eye contact. Finally, one of the main aspects that could have used improvement would
be the introduction. The attention getter was not as effective as I had hoped it would be. It didn t seem
to grab anybody s attention so the speech was already off to a not so great start. While the main topics
were introduced it could have been done more effectively instead of just listing of the three main
topics. Also the thesis statement could have been more thought out with more information about my

The Simpsons Television Show as a Pop Culture Icon Essay
The definition of the typical American family has changed considerably over time. Ever since the age
of television dawned on American culture, situation comedies have tried to portray the typical
American family in an attempt to reach as many viewers as possible. In the 1950 s, there was Leave It
to Beaver which represented a generic view of the American family during its time. There was a father
whose responsibility was to financially support the family and be a role model for his children. There
was a mother whose job was that of a typical housewife, taking care of the home and caring for the
children. And there were the children who had no responsibilities, except to respect their parents and

The show was all but ignored by the older viewing public, who discounted it as a trashy cartoon. The
consumption (Delingpole) of the program and its messages by the American public when the show
first aired regularly was drastically different than what it is now and what the writers of the show
intended. On face value alone, The Simpsons is not much more than a cartoon about a middle class
family and their ridiculous escapades. But when examined more closely and with a more objective eye
? consumed as the show?s writers would intend ? one can see that The Simpsons is truly a comment
on American society.
The Simpsons basis, a father, a mother, and three kids, is far from unusual. The typical American is a
blue collar worker not unlike the father, Homer, who works a mindless job at the local nuclear power
plant in the Simpsons hometown of Springfield which is basically Anytown, USA. Marge, the mother,
is a fairly typical housewife besides her large blue beehive hairdo. Bart, is the rebellious older son;
Lisa, the under appreciated middle child; and Maggie, the adorable baby. The Simpsons don t live in
luxury, but they are a generally happy family that encounters the problems of everyday, and not so
everyday, life, something that millions can relate to. But there is something that sets The Simpsons

Not an Ayn Rand Essay
The fiction novel, The Fountainhead, by Ayn Rand is based off of her philosophy of Objectivism. Ayn
Rand defines and separates her philosophy of Objectivism into four different and distinct parts. The
first part Ayn Rand explains is Metaphysics. Metaphysics is an objective reality where you only accept
facts as reality and not fantasies or desires. The next part of Objectivism is Epistemology, which is
reasoning by perceiving reality by using knowledge or facts as your guide. The third part is Ethics and

When Ayn Rand wrote The Fountainhead, she intended to keep the syntax simple so readers could get
an understanding of Objectivism and individualism. We can clearly see that the protagonist, Howard
Roark, is portrayed as an objectivist and individualist, who also rejects the worst of social standards,
while Lois Cook is seen as a radical, who objects the best of social standards.
When we go even further into The Fountainhead, we discover that Howard Roark loves his type of
modernistic design in architecture rather than referring to the older and more identifiable types of
architecture from history, such as Greek or Roman architecture. Because he prefers to modernize his
own designs, he is suspended from Stanton s institute of technology and has been removed from
several jobs. Roark was offered a job to build a new bank, but he won t change any of his own
designs. The worst part about Howard Roark s out of luck situation is that his designs are
brilliant.Even Peter Keating refers to Howard Roark in needs of assistance, because Howard Roark s
designs are wonderful and unique to the eyes of people. Even then, when Howard Roark isn t given
credit for designing the buildings, credit was all given to Keating, who didn t have enough faith for
himself to, at the least, attempt to create his own architectural designs. While we continue to look at

Celie In The Color Purple By Alice Walker
The Color Purple by Alice Walker focuses on the life of Celie, a young African American woman, as
she recollects her life through a series of letters to God. As a victim of rape and emotional abuse from
her husband and father, Celie no longer feels any true emotions and lives in fear of men. When Shug
Avery, a confident woman on the way to stardom, enters her life, Celie s views on success and
happiness are forever changed. Slowly, she begins to realize the value of independence and friendship
as Shug shows her what the meaning of love really is. By learning to be self reliant, Celie no longer
has to depend on others for her own happiness.
Celie s letters start out detailing her life as the oldest daughter in a family with six children. She ...

Through their journey from abused wives to tenacious women, these three characters learn the
significance of self made happiness and how independence is not only possible, but necessary for
success. Celie, the woman who was once a daughter and a wife used to the constant ridicule of her
family, changed her life for the better through forgiveness, faith, and friendship. Her friend and
daughter in law,Sofia, a loving mother and wife who was punished for her voice rose to defy the racist
and sexist ways she was treated. And Mary Agnes, the diffident girl who shrunk away from the
limelight, content to remain in the shadows of the strong figures around her, learned the importance of
determination and courage through her success as a singer. The woman from this novel are a true

Per-Capita Consumption Definition
The average per capita consumption can be defined as the average outcome of what a firm may need
to sell on an average day or throughout a year and/or even a goal that they are trying to achieve.
Configurations that also may need to be taken into consideration when figuring a per capita are the
fixed costs and variable costs. You must break it all the way down to the day and possibly the hour
depending on technical a firm wants to get to analyze their budget and may also include the hourly
cost to run the firm.
Fixed costs are defined as goods that shall not change overtime; it will continue to be the same price

(a) Aims
There are three aims of this project first of all to measure dose rate of thallium injection during stress
test and Thallium (Tl) and Technetium (Tc99m) dose rate at various locations during patient scan
using the Smart Ion detector. Secondly to measure dose rate of Tc99m received during drawing up and
checking of the doses using personal electronic diode based dose meter. Finally to measure the dose
rate received by the staff when they give Tc99m injection to the patients using personal diode based
dose meter.
(b) Justification.
Radiation protection is the science of protecting the public and the surrounding atmosphere from the
harmful effects of ionizing radiation (both particle radiation and high energy electromagnetic
radiation).Particle radiation is produced by of very fast moving subatomic particles, where all particles
are moving in the same way, similar to a light beam.
There are three factors that control and minimise the amount, or dose, of radiation received from a
source; time, distance and shielding. The combination of these factors

Essay about How Attachment Develops
How Attachment Develops According to Mary Ainsworth (1989) an attachment is an affectional bond
which is a relatively long enduring tie in which the partner is important as a unique individual (and
where there) is a desire to maintain closeness to the partner Ainsworth argued that attachment isn t an
inherited behaviour (nature), but took the view that attachment is a learned process (nurture). She
agreed to the view put forward by the behaviourists to explain how all behaviour is acquired, known s
the learning theory. The learning theory is based around two principles of conditioning; these are
classical conditioning and operant conditioning. Classical conditioning states that the pleasure ...

This view also states that unhealthy attachments can develop when the child is deprived or gains too
much of this attention such as food or oral pleasure. Ainsworth (1974) purposed a caregiver s
sensitivity hypothesis that concluded that the type of attachment depends on the caregiver s warm and
loving responsiveness and supposed that secure attachment was the result of mothers being sensitive
to their children. This result was concluded through a procedure known as the strange situation which
is used to discover and measure the quality of attachment. Ainsworth worked with Bell (1970) an
assessed about 100 middle class American infants and their mothers using the strange situation this is
a method of controlled observation involving observing infants with their mothers during a set of
predetermined activities. The observer records the infants and mothers behaviours such as separation
anxiety, the unease the infant showed when left by the caregiver: the infant s willingness to explore,
stranger anxiety: the Infant s response to the presence of a stranger and finally reunion behaviour: the
way the caregiver was greeted on return. They concluded from several studies of measuring secure
and insecure attachment that they were three types of attachment. Type B (securely attached) was the
largest group of infants. These children were constantly content in their

Legal Reasoning And Differences And Decisions In The Court...
The Justices Section This section on the Justices will delve into my three Justices Sotomayor,
Gorsuch, and Thomas. Thomas has been on the court since 1991 and has a proven conservative
record, Sotomayor is a bit newer to the court and has a more mixed record leaning toward the liberal
side on most of the issues, and final there is Gorsuch, the newest member of the court and labeled as a
conservative in the spirit in Justice Scalia who he replaced. This section will delve into these
preconceived notions about the Justices, and will attempt to put them in perspective as the decision of
where they will fall when deciding this case. Four tables will also be used in this section and they will
simply be referred to as table 1, 2, 3, and 4. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the four cases that were decided in the conservative direction Strong conservatives, based off the
common space scores in parenthesis, voted in the conservative direction in all except for one instance.
As for the two liberal Justices in these cases one dissented, Justice Rogers, (United States v. Delgado
Garcia, 374 F.3d 1337) and the other Justice Barron of the first circuit voted with the conservatives,
(United States v. Diaz Doncel, 811 F.3d 517). An important note is that there was precedent set in the
conservative direction that may have caused Barron to vote the way he did, (United States v.
Gonzalez, 311 F.3d 440). In the eight cases that were judged in the liberal direction all of them, which
were not table decisions, except for one consisted of panels with two liberal justices or one liberal
justice and a weak conservative. A look at the ideological makeup of the decisions of the appellate
court is important, but it is definitely not the end all rule especially when the results are not super
definitive as they are here.
The Supreme Court s treatment of Criminal cases and plea bargaining Another important factor to
look at to see how policy preferences, namely judged through ideology, will play a factor is how likely
the Supreme Court has been to overturn convictions, and to test whether or not ideology plays a

Hole In The Ground Research Paper
In the beginning of time, there was nothing: not sky, nor sea, nor land, just the cosmic world. But, in
this world, there were immortals; these immortals were known as Star People. Where the Star People
lived, there was one rule and that was no one could go near the Hole In The Ground. The Hole In The
Ground was so deep you could not see the bottom of it and was so wide you could not see the other
side. There was a fence surrounding the Hole In The Ground made from posts set every fifteen feet
that had three chains running through them. It had taken the fence building crew a couple of centuries
to build the fence around the Hole In The Ground. The Hole In The Ground had been there for
generations no one knows how or where it originated from. The immortals of this world worshiped the
Hole In The Ground, treated it like a God. The immortals had a daily devotional near the hole only the
very important beings were allowed. Cur was an average person in his world, a little different
awkward and he had a whole lot of curiosity. This faithful day Cur was near the ... Show more content

noticed his absence, life above began to change. Henceforth, the immortals in the world above decided
to use the Hole In The Ground as a dumping place for trash and other things, deciding it was an
unholy creation. Cur saw it hurtling through the sky, he did not falter to go and gather it. Upon seeing
this he did not know what to do with it. He began to leave when he seen a bag, he began to dig
frantically. Then celebratory he pulled the bag out; it was sacred dust they used in rituals from his
home. He looked at the trash, sprinkling the dust from the bag onto the trash causing it to flutter into
the air and getting brighter and brighter till it consumed the darkness. As a result, he decided then and

My Family Are Having A Wonderful Christmas Season !
Hey there Gina, I hope you and your family are having a wonderful Christmas season! I was going
though a bin of old photos a while ago and found some photos of your baptism, I thought I d give
them to you in case you didn t get a copy, or if you did and they got lost or something. As for the
book... Well a few months ago I was looking at deals in the kindle store in the Christian section, and
after reading the introduction chapter within the book, I was encouraged and impressed so I bought the
kindle version for myself for a couple of dollars. I was reading it a few weeks ago, and was like, Wow,
the content here is so good! I should totally get a couple of copies to give to some of the moms that I
know who have their hands full with young ones. And anyways, you were one of the people I thought
of I think I had watched the video of Wesley frustrated with writing the letter B a few days before, so
that might explain it. Haha. I remember during a sermon hearing the pastor say that 10% of the words
that Jesus used in the gospels were direct quotes form the scriptures (the old testament), I say that
because one of the reasons I find Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full to be so encouraging is
because it seems to me (from what I ve read so far) that about 50% of the words that Gloria uses are
direct quotes from scripture. It s rare for me to find a book so encouraging, and that illuminates my
heart to the word of God, books like this only seem to come along every few

Tetrahymena Ink
Tetrahymena in the 5% ink showed a higher stained vacuole count that those in 1% ink. This
supported our hypothesis that the Tetahymena in a higher concentration of ink would show more
staining, because there is more ink around for them to consume. Differing results were found in a
similar experiment by Bazzone (2000), as cells in a higher ink concentration showed fewer vacuoles
than those at a lower ink concentration. This experiment followed the same procedure, but expanded
the ink concentrations to include 10% ink and examined cells at the timepoints 2, 10, 20, and 30
minutes (Bazzone, 2000). This study did not find an explanation for why these results occurred
(Bazzone, 2000). Since our numbers of vacuoles of 1% and 5% ink were nearly identical for each time
period, it is possible that if we repeated the experiment and counted more ... Show more content on

For this experiment, Tetrahymena would be starved for 0, 1, 5, 10, and 15 hours. Then, 2ml would be
combined with 2ml India ink and fixed at 0, 5, 10, 20 minutes. Wet mounts would be prepared and the
average number of vacuoles per Tetrahymena for twenty cells would be counted. Additionally, average
cell counts per drop of fixed Tetrahymena would be taken for twenty drops. This would allow us to
gain more knowledge on how exactly starvation affects the number of vacuoles and the lifespan of the
Tetrahymena. This would be helpful because we observed fewer Tetrahymena in our starvation
medium, but we don t know how quickly the cells died once they were placed in this medium.
In conclusion, this experiment helped us determine that Tetrahymena can perform phagocytosis most
efficiently when at a temperature close to their natural environment, when more stain is available, and
when they are not starved. Additionally, phagocytosis is a microfilament dependent process that does
not involve

  • 4. The Threat of Global Warming May Lead to Global Cooling Essay Over the last few years almost everyone has heard that the earth is warming. Also, almost everyone has heard the pleas to go green and reduce carbon emissions, led by former Vice President Al Gore. Even though there is not a truly accurate definition of global warming it can be roughly defined as a rise in average global temperature according to Laurence Pringle s book Global Warming Assessing the Greenhouse Threat (19). Global Warming Assessing the Greenhouse Threat also bring up that the average temperature data that scientist are using only goes back to 1860 giving scientists today only 150 years of temperature data. Picture this, some years from now winters will be exceptionally harsh in the Northern Hemisphere. Crops that were grown in the northern United States, southern Canada, and the northern countries in Europe are unable to grow any more. Also, glaciers that had been receding in the warm period of the late 1990s and throughout the 2000s grow and push in to areas that had become habitable during the warm period. If one thinks this is fiction, it has happened before. The last time that a little ice age occurred it began around 1350 and lasted until the late 19th century. Also, this little ice age was preceded by a warm period with similar temperature patterns as today s warming trends. Most of this data has been gathered from sediment samples from Bermuda and ice core samples from Greenland ( Earth s Climate History ). During the Medieval time from the years 700 to 1300 there was very warm time in the history of the world. This time is referred to as the Medieval Warm Period or the Medieval Climatic Optimum ( Earth s Climate History ). This period is believed to have peaked around the year 1100. The climate was considerably warmer and milder than it was before this time period. With this climate change food was able to be grown in many areas where they were previously not grown. Some examples of this are grapes being grown in southern England, and cereal crops successfully being cultivated in Iceland ( Earth s Climate History ). Also, much of the ... Children today have substantially less access to nature, less free range, and less time for independent play than previous generations had. This quote is from the research based paper titled, Where the Wild Things Should Be: Healing Nature Deficit Disorder through the Schoolyard. This article touches many aspects of how children now a days need more exposure to nature like it was on the older days. Although there is arguments that playgrounds can be made too safe where they are no fun are made, for the sake of the argument I will focus on the side that wants them really safe. This side of the arguments believes that all schoolyards need to have rules such as to, Avoid playgrounds with non impact absorbing surfaces, such as asphalt, concrete, grass, dirt or gravel. Recommended surface materials include: sand, pea gravel, wood chips, mulch and shredded rubber. Rubber mats, synthetic turf and other artificial materials are also safe surfaces and require less maintenance. Surfacing should be at least 12 inches deep and extend at least 6 feet in all directions around stationary equipment. Depending on the height of the equipment, surfacing may need to extend farther than 6 feet. For swings, make sure that the surfacing extends, in the back and front, twice the height of the suspending bar. So if the top of the swing set is 10 feet high, the surfacing should extend 20 feet. Along with all the regulations and rules, they would hop to also have it well supervised and inspected. They say that qualified personal need to constantly be checking up on the schoolyards and maintaining them. • 6. The Noble Knight In Thomas Malory s Morte Darthur During Malory s Morte Darthur , the noble knights such as Lancelot, Gawain, Agravain, and Gareth represent the ideals of knightliness. Malory seems to be implying that Sir Lancelot although King Arthur s biggest betrayer was still the noblest of knights despite his adultery. Sir Lancelot during the story is portrayed as the measure in which all knights worth is metered by. As just a knight Lancelot is held as the man of which many worship, slightly more than even King Arthur, making Lancelot the main idol of the text. Being a knight nobility, honor, and worship was an imperative skill in the role of leadership, for a leader often were those who had proven themselves on and off the battlefield. For others to look over Sire Lancelot and Queen Guinevere s secret affair insinuates that they respected Sir Lancelot more than King Arthur. In Sir Thomas Malory s Morte Darthur the implication of the story is that honor is obtained by holding up to the responsibilities one may have more so than relationships they are involved in. Sir Agravain and Sir Mordred brought the Queen and Sir Lancelot s affair up amongst the group of knights. To a reader, it shows a semi dislike to Sir Lancelot that they both would make such noise over this. Sir Gawain reminds them both that they, must remember how often time Sir Lancelot hath rescued the King and Queen (483). Gawain looks to Sir Lancelot as an honorable knight disbelieving that his fellow knights would accuse him of such accusations. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Analysis Of The Movie Butterfield Stars Essay Butterfield stars as Bruno, a curious, stubborn eight year old whose family is relocated to the countryside when his father receives a new job as a head member of the Nazi party, working for the Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camp. Lonely and frustrated from having no one his own age to talk to, Bruno explores past the limits of his backyard. He comes across a barbed wire fence, with a young boy named Schmuel (played by Scanlon) on the other side wearing what Bruno perceives to be striped pajamas. The two boys strike up a friendship through the fence, with Bruno coming to visit Shmuel almost daily. Neither boy grasps that Schmuel is in a death camp, and when Schmuel confesses to Bruno that he is Jewish, Bruno doesn t not seem to understand why that matters. Curious as to what really lies on the other side of the fence, Bruno and Schmuel plot for him to sneak into the camp, which leads to the demise of both of them. The film is more emotion based rather than fact based, in an attempt to appeal to the audiences symphonies rather than instruct them on a historical event. It has been criticized for its accuracy, specifically pertaining to the ages of the boys. Many critics claim that boys as young as Schmuel would never have been at Auschwitz, because all children too young to work were gassed upon arrival. Others argue that the film is symbol of innocence, and the two boys reflect how children are able to look past each other s differences easier than adults. Critics also ... Elements of Network Security Elements of Network Security Louis Kibby Network / Datacom I TCM 537 Mr. Stuart Sandler November 28, 2005 Elements of Network Security Introduction The primary objective of a network security system is to, in a cost effective manner, balance convenient access to legitimate users and inaccessibility to attackers. In a nutshell, the goal is to prevent connectivity to anyone intending to cause harm to the network. The harm to which this paper refers can come in the following forms: 1. Unauthorized access from internal and external sources. 5. Denial of service attacks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 28, 2001). Because this is an automated system, it depends on a mechanical process of discerning what is good or bad. This at times can lead to false positives or negatives, or the blocking of a legitimate user and giving access to a system violator. This weakness in the Cisco IDS requires that an additional form of violation detection be used. In addition to the IDS, LADWP has a staff of technicians who provide continuous network monitoring. In addition to keeping track of the alarms detected by the IDS Director Platform, these technicians also use other tools to keep an eye on network traffic levels, as well as performing routine vulnerability probing. One key tool used is Lucent s VitalSuite. This tool uses real time event analysis, which helps to identify network resources that have exceeded acceptable levels. To properly use VitalSuite, the technicians establish what they believe to be normal network activity. This norm is then used as a baseline to help in the identification of any abnormal network traffic. Once the baseline is established, levels of severity are set. The levels are minor, major and critical, with critical meaning immediate action is required. The only time the system alarms is when a critical error is detected. During normal operations, the technicians monitor VitalSuites display, looking for unusual events. These events can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moore adds that a super hero, can be a psychological argument. A super hero is neither born nor shaped by environment, it is the creation of an alter ego to suppress childhood conflicting inner issues. Rorshach dealt with issues as a young child that rationalized in his mind to hide behind a costume and a mask in order to live. The first character the book introduces to the reader to is Rorschach, Walter Joseph Kovacs, one of the main characters. Rorschach reveals his past and why he wears a mask on page eleven. • 13. The Great Gatsby And Death Of A Salesman Ambition. It is a vital characteristic required for an individual wanting achieve their goals. Being ambitious alone is crucial to success as it is the drive that propels one toward it. It is and always will be a human trait. Perhaps that is why the theme of ambition has been so prevalent in literature. It is the dominant theme in The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald, William Shakespeare s Macbeth, Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller and The Wolf of Wall Street by Jordan Belfort. In this essay, I will discuss the two ways over ambition can cause an individual s downfall. The first is setting unattainable goals which we can see in The Great Gatsby and Death of a Salesman. The second is trying to achieve your goals unethically, seen in Macbeth and in The Wolf of Wall Street . The idea of ambition and striving for achievement is highly valued by our society today. However, many people forget that too much of anything can be catastrophic. Ambition is a theme that many books attempt to touch on, yet very few are truly able to explore it. F.Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby published in 1925 is a prime example of a novel that eloquently presents this theme. The story follows Jay Gatsby, the ambitious self made man. Gatsby s desire is to be reunited with his lost love, Daisy Buchanan. His ambitious journey toward his green light leads him from poverty to wealth, but in the end, it is also the cause of his untimely death. Gatsby s over ambition is shown in his obsession ... • 14. Effects Of Poverty In Nigeria Poverty is a multidimensional phenomenon. Poverty is a denial of choices and opportunities, a violation of human dignity. It means lack of basic capacity to participate effectively in society. It means not having enough to feed and clothe a family, not having a school or clinic to go to; not having the land on which to grow one s food or a job to earn one s living, not having access to credit. It means insecurity, powerlessness and exclusion of individuals, households and communities. It means susceptibility to violence, and it often implies living on marginal or fragile environments, without access to clean water or sanitation. It has risen in Nigeria with almost 100 million people living on less than $1 a day, despite economic growth, statistics have shown. The ethical theory associated with this is the egoism theory which I picked as in place of the Nigerian leaders who only look out for their families. Comparing this economy and government to that of Dubai is overwhelming as everyone knows Dubai for its vast expense of riches and brilliant government. In Nigeria, widespread and severe poverty is a reality. It is a reality that depicts a lack of food, clothes, education and other basic amenities. Severely poor people lack the most basic necessities of life to a degree that it can be wondered how they manage to survive. There are several effects and deficiencies associated with poverty in Nigeria. One of the main effects of poverty is poor health, as is reflected ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Rise Of Zionism And Arab Nationalism The rise of Zionism and Arab Nationalism in the nineteenth century triggered major political tensions in the region of Palestine. The conflict among the Zionists and Arab Nationalists is primarily due to the politics of territory and is essentially not comprised of religious opposition. In fact, before the advent of Zionism and Arab Nationalism, Jews and Palestinians shared a local identity due to mutual tolerances. This identity, which took precedence over religion, created a vivacious community with its own unique set of traditions and customs shared among the Jews, Muslims and Christians. However, following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the Zionists whom were seeking a safe haven from Jewish prejudices in mainly Eastern Europe, proclaimed their return to Palestine. Zionists sought the territory of Palestine as the official land of the Jews because of their ancient homeland ties. Furthermore, as Zionism progressed, Arabs Nationalists were threatened by the ideology and the vast Jewish immigration to Palestine. In the Arab point of view, Zionism emerged as a European movement, which appeared to be another attempt by Western imperialism to subordinate Muslims to Europeans. Also, there were some difficulties that came about during my speech, one of those difficulties being inadequate direct eye contact. During the length of the speech there were not many time where I looked up and talked directly to my classmates. Something I could have done better to improve this would be to practice even more to ensure that I wouldn t need to look at my notecards and slides as often. I also could have practiced when to look up and have a successful glance at my audience to have improved eye contact. Finally, one of the main aspects that could have used improvement would be the introduction. The attention getter was not as effective as I had hoped it would be. It didn t seem to grab anybody s attention so the speech was already off to a not so great start. While the main topics were introduced it could have been done more effectively instead of just listing of the three main topics. Also the thesis statement could have been more thought out with more information about my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Simpsons Television Show as a Pop Culture Icon Essay The definition of the typical American family has changed considerably over time. Ever since the age of television dawned on American culture, situation comedies have tried to portray the typical American family in an attempt to reach as many viewers as possible. In the 1950 s, there was Leave It to Beaver which represented a generic view of the American family during its time. There was a father whose responsibility was to financially support the family and be a role model for his children. There was a mother whose job was that of a typical housewife, taking care of the home and caring for the children. And there were the children who had no responsibilities, except to respect their parents and listen to their advice when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The show was all but ignored by the older viewing public, who discounted it as a trashy cartoon. The consumption (Delingpole) of the program and its messages by the American public when the show first aired regularly was drastically different than what it is now and what the writers of the show intended. On face value alone, The Simpsons is not much more than a cartoon about a middle class family and their ridiculous escapades. But when examined more closely and with a more objective eye ? consumed as the show?s writers would intend ? one can see that The Simpsons is truly a comment on American society. The Simpsons basis, a father, a mother, and three kids, is far from unusual. The typical American is a blue collar worker not unlike the father, Homer, who works a mindless job at the local nuclear power plant in the Simpsons hometown of Springfield which is basically Anytown, USA. Marge, the mother, is a fairly typical housewife besides her large blue beehive hairdo. Bart, is the rebellious older son; Lisa, the under appreciated middle child; and Maggie, the adorable baby. The Simpsons don t live in luxury, but they are a generally happy family that encounters the problems of everyday, and not so everyday, life, something that millions can relate to. But there is something that sets The Simpsons apart from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The authors clearly stated within the title the study is a randomized controlled trial and is both a qualitative and qualitative study. The purpose of the study was to find decision aids for mode of delivery among women that have previously had a caesarean section; which as well was stated in the research title (Montgomery, et al. 2007). The abstract was very informative and effective for explaining and giving an overview of the entire study, explaining design, objectives, setting, participants, interventions, measures, and results. The study was funded by the BUPA Foundation and the AAM was partially supported by a postdoctoral fellowship from the UK Department of Health National Coordinating Centre for Research Capacity Development (Montgomery, et al. 2007). • 41. Not an Ayn Rand Essay The fiction novel, The Fountainhead, by Ayn Rand is based off of her philosophy of Objectivism. Ayn Rand defines and separates her philosophy of Objectivism into four different and distinct parts. The first part Ayn Rand explains is Metaphysics. Metaphysics is an objective reality where you only accept facts as reality and not fantasies or desires. The next part of Objectivism is Epistemology, which is reasoning by perceiving reality by using knowledge or facts as your guide. The third part is Ethics and self interest. The final part of Objectivism is laissez faire capitalism, which is equal trade while the government acts as a police force only. When Ayn Rand wrote The Fountainhead, she intended to keep the syntax simple so readers could get an understanding of Objectivism and individualism. We can clearly see that the protagonist, Howard Roark, is portrayed as an objectivist and individualist, who also rejects the worst of social standards, while Lois Cook is seen as a radical, who objects the best of social standards. When we go even further into The Fountainhead, we discover that Howard Roark loves his type of modernistic design in architecture rather than referring to the older and more identifiable types of architecture from history, such as Greek or Roman architecture. Because he prefers to modernize his own designs, he is suspended from Stanton s institute of technology and has been removed from several jobs. Roark was offered a job to build a new bank, but he won t change any of his own designs. The worst part about Howard Roark s out of luck situation is that his designs are brilliant.Even Peter Keating refers to Howard Roark in needs of assistance, because Howard Roark s designs are wonderful and unique to the eyes of people. Even then, when Howard Roark isn t given credit for designing the buildings, credit was all given to Keating, who didn t have enough faith for himself to, at the least, attempt to create his own architectural designs. While we continue to look at Howard Roark, we can see that while Ayn Rand created Howard Roark, he stays as his own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay about How Attachment Develops How Attachment Develops According to Mary Ainsworth (1989) an attachment is an affectional bond which is a relatively long enduring tie in which the partner is important as a unique individual (and where there) is a desire to maintain closeness to the partner Ainsworth argued that attachment isn t an inherited behaviour (nature), but took the view that attachment is a learned process (nurture). She agreed to the view put forward by the behaviourists to explain how all behaviour is acquired, known s the learning theory. The learning theory is based around two principles of conditioning; these are classical conditioning and operant conditioning. Classical conditioning states that the pleasure ... Ainsworth (1974) purposed a caregiver s sensitivity hypothesis that concluded that the type of attachment depends on the caregiver s warm and loving responsiveness and supposed that secure attachment was the result of mothers being sensitive to their children. This result was concluded through a procedure known as the strange situation which is used to discover and measure the quality of attachment. Ainsworth worked with Bell (1970) an assessed about 100 middle class American infants and their mothers using the strange situation this is a method of controlled observation involving observing infants with their mothers during a set of predetermined activities. The observer records the infants and mothers behaviours such as separation anxiety, the unease the infant showed when left by the caregiver: the infant s willingness to explore, stranger anxiety: the Infant s response to the presence of a stranger and finally reunion behaviour: the way the caregiver was greeted on return. They concluded from several studies of measuring secure and insecure attachment that they were three types of attachment. Type B (securely attached) was the largest group of infants. This section will delve into these preconceived notions about the Justices, and will attempt to put them in perspective as the decision of where they will fall when deciding this case. Delgado Garcia, 374 F.3d 1337) and the other Justice Barron of the first circuit voted with the conservatives, (United States v. Diaz Doncel, 811 F.3d 517). An important note is that there was precedent set in the conservative direction that may have caused Barron to vote the way he did, (United States v. Gonzalez, 311 F.3d 440). In the eight cases that were judged in the liberal direction all of them, which were not table decisions, except for one consisted of panels with two liberal justices or one liberal justice and a weak conservative. I was going though a bin of old photos a while ago and found some photos of your baptism, I thought I d give them to you in case you didn t get a copy, or if you did and they got lost or something. As for the book... Well a few months ago I was looking at deals in the kindle store in the Christian section, and after reading the introduction chapter within the book, I was encouraged and impressed so I bought the kindle version for myself for a couple of dollars. I was reading it a few weeks ago, and was like, Wow, the content here is so good! And anyways, you were one of the people I thought of I think I had watched the video of Wesley frustrated with writing the letter B a few days before, so that might explain it. Haha. I remember during a sermon hearing the pastor say that 10% of the words that Jesus used in the gospels were direct quotes form the scriptures (the old testament), I say that because one of the reasons I find Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full to be so encouraging is because it seems to me (from what I ve read so far) that about 50% of the words that Gloria uses are direct quotes from scripture. This supported our hypothesis that the Tetahymena in a higher concentration of ink would show more staining, because there is more ink around for them to consume. Differing results were found in a similar experiment by Bazzone (2000), as cells in a higher ink concentration showed fewer vacuoles than those at a lower ink concentration. This experiment followed the same procedure, but expanded the ink concentrations to include 10% ink and examined cells at the timepoints 2, 10, 20, and 30 minutes (Bazzone, 2000). This study did not find an explanation for why these results occurred (Bazzone, 2000). Additionally, average cell counts per drop of fixed Tetrahymena would be taken for twenty drops. This would allow us to gain more knowledge on how exactly starvation affects the number of vacuoles and the lifespan of the Tetrahymena. This would be helpful because we observed fewer Tetrahymena in our starvation medium, but we don t know how quickly the cells died once they were placed in this medium. In conclusion, this experiment helped us determine that Tetrahymena can perform phagocytosis most efficiently when at a temperature close to their natural environment, when more stain is available, and when they are not starved.
