The Importance Of Gender Equality In Education
All around the world, generations of children have grown up with a history of male leadership. Gender
equality has always been and continues to be a struggle, but with more awareness being shed on this
problem, it has been improving on a local and global scale. However, governments still lack the
gender diversity in their leadership positions that is needed by today s standards and expectations.
With more activism on a local and global level, future generations will grow up becoming leaders
without limitations due to their gender.
I have been able to grow up in a fortunate environment with a strong sense of equal gender
opportunity, but there was always the absence of equal gender icons to look up to when I was growing
up. Most textbooks and lessons were filled with the accomplishments of male scientists, explorers,
artists, and most of all, leaders. It is essential that we educate children at a young age the importance
for the push towards gender equality in leadership positions. After all, it is difficult for little girls to
believe teachers when say that they can grow up to be anything they want to be when there are male
clad posters of the United States presidents hanging up on the wall behind them. We cannot change the
faces of the past to match our egalitarian expectations, but we can add an equal mix of genders to the
curriculums and environments that all children grow up with to encourage them to change the future.

The Sun Also Rises is a novel by Ernest Hemingway (1926). Hemingway deliberately shaped the
protagonists in The Sun Also Rises as allegorical figures (Bloom, 1985, pp. 107). The novel
symbolizes the impotence felt by the main characters after World War I.
Jake Barnes, the narrator, had a wound from an accident that happened during the war. The injury
damaged his genitalia. As a result, Barnes could no longer make love, but could still feel the desire.
Barnes felt physically less than a man. Barnes made a comment about hating homos . This shows that
Barnes was insecure about his masculinity. For this reason, he later found himself strongly attracted to
the young bullfighter, Pedro Romero, whose manhood stood without women.

Importance Of Discourse Analysis
Discourse analysis is the variety of theoretical approaches and analytic emphases concerning the
studying and understanding of people s use of language mediums in social action and interaction. This
also applies to the development of capitalism and technology. Studies have opened doors to these
topics. Despite variation in theoretical approaches, all strands of discourse analysis share a strong
social constructionist epistemology. With its roots largely embedded in linguistic philosophy,
ethnomethodology and speech act theory (Potter, 1987; Potter Wetherell, 1995).
Discourse analysis might be applied to qualitative data if a person were interested in understanding
how people s ideas and emotions are pieced together to form versions of reality of the world around
them, and how these accounts are played out in social action and interaction. This is the model that the
heads of this capitalistic state manipulate the common public. Further, it would be useful if interests
lay in exploring and understanding why people use different versions of discourse in differing
contexts, and under what conditions do variations arise. Specifically discourse analysis might be
utilized by those interested in exploring how powerful discourses, such as racism, are constructed,
practiced and normalized (Edley, 2001).
Discourse analysis s focus is rooted in three basic tenets: construction, function and variation (Potter,
1987). The assumption is that discourses are constructed through

Essay on Napoleon Bonaparte and the Catholic Church
Tension grew between the Catholic Church and France during the French Revolution, leading to a
schism, which deeply devastated the Church s economy. Pope Pius VII and Napoleon Bonaparte came
into power as the French Revolution was ending. For different reasons they both saw the importance
of restoring Roman Catholicism s position in France. The Catholic Church s initial support of
Napoleon greatly affected both parties (O Dwyer 12 14, 43, 49). This statement has led me to ask the
following question: To what extent did the support of Napoleon affect the Church s role as a political
and economic power in France? In this paper I will argue against the traditional view that Napoleon s
contract with the Catholic Church was solely beneficial to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The loss of one of its great powers caused the Catholic Church great distress. Pope Pius VI, who ruled
during the Revolution, died and in 1799, Pope Pius VII was elected. Pius VII inherited many
problems, including the division between France and Rome.
Just as Pope Pius VII was coming into power, Napoleon Bonaparte, a young, military genius, was
elected as First Consul of the Post Revolutionary French government (O Dwyer 43, 49). Both
Napoleon and Pius VII saw the importance in ending the schism and restoring Catholicism in France.
Napoleon saw the reestablishment of the Catholic Church in France as a social bedrock and as an
ideological anodyne (Ellis 41) and used it to gain immediate political power. The Catholic Church
wanted influence in France again and was willing to strike a deal with Napoleon to do so. In 1801 they
officially published the Concordat, which restored Catholicism as the main religion in France (O
Dwyer 56). In 1802, Napoleon, without Pius consent, added an additional a list of police regulations
that severely restricted the Papacy s role in France (Ellis 41), known as the Organic Articles, which
aggravated Pope Pius VII. The Church s support of the Concordat legitimized Napoleon s autocratic
rule, but it also stopped the schism that the Revolution had started. From Napoleon s coronation in
1804 to the imprisonment of Pope Pius VII in Fontainebleau, the relationship

Poverty In New Orleans Essay
When many of us hear about New Orleans we think about Mardi Gras, casinos, and the French
heritage. Tourists drive right by the deprived and less fortunate areas of Louisiana without even
realizing it. Many people go visit New Orleans and doing so for a vacation without realizing how bad
the poverty in this city is. Once realized how dramatic the poverty level is in New Orleans, these
dismal areas are difficult to endure. It was August 29, 2005 when Hurricane Katrina hit the city of
New Orleans. Unfortunately, the city and whole state was extremely unprepared for the catastrophic
impact. This was one uncontrollable factor to cause detrimental impacts to New Orleans. With that

solutions. In her article she mentions these solutions which consist of (1) providing means and

abandonment and neglect by reinvesting in the community in ways that will improve the housing

Thomas Pynchon Accomplishments
Thomas Pynchon is an American author, known for his deep and complex novels. Some say he is the
greatest American author since World War II. Being such a private person, there are only few pictures
of him in the public, and only few interviews with him. By using satire, irony, and symbolism, he
showcased the moral flaws in humans at that time in society. Doing so he influenced many future
writers, and artists, as well as the literature world. Pynchon is known for being part of the
postmodernism movement in literature.
Born on May 8th 1937, in New York, he is the descendent of William Pynchon, the founder of
Springfield, Massachusetts. His long line of wealthy ancestors and family style greatly influenced his
writings. He was student of the year at Oyster Bay High, and ... Show more content on

of the cyberpunk genre, of which Stephenson and Gibson were very prominent authors in. Pynchon is
believed to be the reason cyberpunk made its way into the literature world and grew into a popular
genre. The Bible of the 21st Century has an Old Testament and a New. The Old, written in 1973 by
Thomas Pynchon, is called Gravity s Rainbow. In 1987, in Spin Magazine, Thomas Leary compared
Pynchon s novel to the Old Testament, as if it was like the beginning of something, that without
Pynchon, cyberpunk would not be the genre that it is today. He stated that the New Testament to
Pynchon s novel was Gibson s novel; Neuromancer. His novel was published in 1973, and cyberpunk
was not viewed as a literary genre until the early 1980 s. His novel is considered to be the original
cyberpunk novel, which is why some categorize it in that

tool or resources deals directly with change and who to best deal with the changes in order to produce
a good outcome for all involved. Our text teaches us that, Organizational development (OD)
comprises the long range efforts and programs aimed at improving an organization s ability to survive

If or when this happens several other problems can arise and opportunities for resolution or missed;
learning opportunities are missed as well. My OD specialists have actually been a group of capable
individuals; ranging across a wide spectrum from parents and spiritual leaders to managers and
friends. My Pastor was one of the persons that influenced me to change my perspective on obtaining
my degree. This is a specific goal that may seem minuscule in the grand scheme of things but it relates
to organizational development through large segmented change. Changing my perspective of being
able to achieve the goal and the after effects of what this goal means to my professional life are both
large scale. While having the skills to identify the issues and the problems is essential; I must also
have the skills to determine the opportunities. Opportunities to use organizational development can
easily be overlooked because most opportunities are deemed to be something positive. And because
the need for organizational development maybe viewed as negative, I may overlook the fact that it s
needed. An opportunity to improve performance is a great way to learn and a great way to develop
long lasting practices that will assist throughout life. Seizing the moments where there is an
opportunity for betterment will build my skills in the area of problem solving. Being a good problem
solver will certainly assist with success in life

The Causes Of Japanese Americans In America During And...
During and Post World War II, many Americans seemed to embrace the fear stemming from the War.
Due to the attacks on Pearl Harbor, Japanese Americans were highly discriminated against and
rounded up into interment camps during the war. Along with the historical racism of blacks, the
Japanese Americans began to be sought out and segregated from white America. As America moved
into the 1950 s and 60 s greater fear was on the minds of Americans as this time usher in the cold war
era, which was also known as the red scare. Communism was the ultimate enemy among Americans
and it showed that many citizens were afraid of being close to communist empathizers. Many
Americans were accusing their neighbors and their peers for being supportive of such ideology. Most
of these factors taking place in America from World War II up to the early 1960 s, lead to the desire of
many middle class white American s to seek new neighborhoods and to segregate them selves from
the fear they had. On top of these fears, the ability and access of which an increasing amount of
American s started to have during this period made it possible for such migration into new
neighborhoods and suburbia. Suburbs grew because of demand for new housing and space following
the war. Families were reunited and the new American dream was to own a house in the suburbs with
white picket fence and a yard for the kids to play in. Housing cost were low as ever because of the
federal governments encouragement with the

This research primarily focuses on ways of preventing financial fraud in the work place as well as
defining the proper ethics to follow. It elaborates on the ways to deter fraud and what ethics should be
taught during training for the job given to an employee. In order to understand the best way to stop
people from committing fraud, we must learn what stipulations are already set in place for the crime.
Company guidelines for fraud detection and prevention should be set in place in order avert fraud. To
better understand why people commit fraud, the study for this research will pay close attention on
ethical associations and ethics that are taking place in the workplace. Ethics plays a major role in the
business workplace by providing guidelines and contouring people s behaviors while working. This
research paper will disclose the following questions:

Comparing The Body And Spirit
Daoist Body In Daoism the body and spirit are seen as the same continuum of the Dao. Each is
equally important in the transformation to an immortal body. The challenge for Daoist is to transform
the entire body spirit continuum to a higher level and to experience themselves as one with the Dao.
With this in mind we can see that to Daoist the human body is viewed as a collection of the cosmic
energy qi (Kuhn, 2). Qi, is the fundamental energy at life s source. Like the Dao there is only one qi.
At conception a tiny bit of Heavenly qi is given to the human body. It maintains life and growth,
supports reproduction of life, and declines with age. At the time of death, the qi is completely gone
(Furth,21). There are two major types of qi, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without light there can be no shadow. They are allows interacting with one another, moving in cycles
of days and seasons. They regulate the movement of qi within the body, thus the path and momentum
of changes within the body. Yin and yang is further divided categories according to Five Phases (wu
xing), Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. These Five Phases, when applied to the human body,
explain the dynamic relationships and bodily affinities of five basic systems of visceral function
(zang) and are associated with Liver, Heart, Spleen, Lung, and Kidney (Furth,23). Inner Alchemy
Neidan 內丹 (inner alchemy) is a collection of physical, mental, and spiritual practices that Daoist use
to create an immortal spiritual body that will survive after death. There is no clear date for when
neidan was first established. However, many scholars have found many individual pieces that
contributed to its development. Classical Daoist texts, correlative cosmology, Yijing 易經 (Book of
Changes) mythology, meditational and physical disciplines of yangsheng 养生 (nourishing life),
cosmological traditions of waidan 外丹 (external alchemy), medical theory, Buddhist soteriology and
Confucian moral philosophy are all a part of neidan. (Pregadio and Skar, 464). It was not until the
12th century that all of these pieces came together to form the neidan practice. For most of the last
millennium the term neidan was not used to describe this practice. Jindan 金丹 (Golden Elixir) was

Essay On Myasthenia Gravis
Myasthenia Gravis Damage to the neuromuscular junctions is due to an autoimmune disease called
myasthenia graves. The motor end plates, which are located on skeletal muscles, are affected because
there is a decrease in the amount of Ach receptors located on the motor end plate, which is connected
to the neuromuscular junction. The decrease is due to the unnecessary production of antibodies, which
bind to the motor end plate. This prevents Ach from binding to the receptors to carry out a synapse
between the skeletal muscle and a neuron, leading to a stop or weakening of muscle contraction. The
decrease in the amounts of synapses cause the skeletal muscle to lose function, become weaker, and
tire more easily. Men and women are both at risk for developing myasthenia gravis, but the disease is
more prevalent in women. However, the age of diagnosis varies. Men typically receive their diagnosis
between the ages of 50 and 60 years old; women are usually diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40
years old. There is no known research to conclude if a particular race is at a higher disadvantage to

against climate change and towards better social conditions (JASP, 2016). Nevertheless, because of
how much global influence Nike hold, they have the potential to do much more than that. The
corporation could work with various organizations, academic programs and NGOs in order to do more
research into what the most ideal conditions are and what kinds of needs need to be addressed to better
the overall social, economic and environmental conditions in which the production processes is
occurring (JASP, 2016). Furthermore, while Nike was inspired by ethnic consumers, so can it promote
ethnic consumption to those who might not have originally considered these issues whilst purchasing
these or even other commodities (JASP, 2016). The fear at the moment, however, is that Nike is only
in it for the money. During the boycott of the 1990s, Nike could have avoided the crisis through acting
sooner and recognizing the inequalities in their corporation though they chose instead to ignore their
demands (Jackson and Schantz, 1993, 32). In fact, it was not until years later, when the longevity of

The Conference s County Ethnic Breakdown
Figure 12 shows the conference s county ethnic breakdown. These figures contain only the counties
that are in the Rocky Mountain Annual Conference area. By excluding state level data in favor of
county level data, Figure 12 creates a closer relationship to the actual conference totals. However, the
area population does not reflect the demographics of its conference membership. The conference
contains 2% of each Black or African American, Two or more races, and Asian groups.

Table 4 Expenses as a Percent of Total Spending (2013)
Table 4 shows the average Rocky Mountain church spends above the UMC average on clergy
compensation. Rocky Mountain has almost 4% more dedicated to staffing expenses, pushing its rank
to 8th. The average Rocky Mountain church spends 2% more than the conference average on program
cost but, the UMC average on operating cost. Rocky Mountain is paying its staff more, and its clergy
just above the UMC average all while maintaining the conference average on debt payments.
Moreover, the conference is spending 2% more in program spending, which if reduced would help
bring the conference in line with the UMC non capital spending average.
Trend 9 Total Spending and Spending per Attendee (Index=2014 Dollars)
Trend 9 contains two main variables: the blue bars graph the total spending of the conference, and the

Sacco And Vanzetti Analysis
Sometimes words cannot exactly explain what we want to convey, so we need a visual to support it. A
similar thing was observed in the article of Alan M. Dershowitz, he cleverly makes use of Ben Shah s
painting in the article to grab the attention of folks. The author writes about a murder case of a
paymaster and a guard of the South Braintree by Sacco and Vanzetti, both were Italian immigrant
anarchists. Surprisingly, the truth was not revealed that whether Sacco and Vanzetti were the killers
and this case is still unsolved. I agree with the author that the trials could not get to the fair results. I
believe that the painting is an ironic symbol of the justice. It silently expresses a lot what the text can

A hidden symbol for the injustice, very cleverly used by Ben Shahn, was lilies. In an online webpage,
Ben Shahn says, As a well known symbol of the crucified Christ, the lilies also suggest that Sacco and

Vanzetti 1931 32. New York. http://collection.whitney.org/object/1022 Accessed October 2016). It is
clear from this line that the two sentenced people were innocent and were the victims of the power of
high class gentlemen. Former are stated as martyrs because they were not the murderers instead they

Research Paper On Epilepsy
Epilepsy is a neurological condition marked by sudden recurrent episodes of sensory disturbance, loss
of consciousness, or convulsions, associated with abnormal electrical activity in the brain. It is the
tendency to have seizures that start in the brain. The brain is made up of millions of nerve cells that
use electrical signals to control the body s functions, senses and thoughts. If the signals are disrupted,
the person may have an epileptic seizure (sometimes called a fit or attack ). The brain is the center that
controls and regulates all voluntary and involuntary responses in the body. It consists of nerve cells
that normally communicate with each other through electrical activity. A seizure occurs when part(s)
of the brain receives a burst of abnormal electrical signals that temporarily interrupts normal electrical
brain function. Epilepsy varies greatly and affects everyone differently. Anyone can develop epilepsy,
at any time of life. It happens in people of all ages, races and social classes. ... Show more content on

Epilepsy has been recognized throughout history. It can be traced back to references made in literature
written hundreds and hundreds of years ago. The earliest known descriptions of epilepsy are in the
writings of Hippocrates (ca. 460 ca. 377 BC), most notably in his essay titled On the Sacred Disease,
so named because in ancient Greece, the inexplicable cause of seizures had led to the common belief
that the person with epilepsy was periodically possessed by spirits (in more recent times, demons).
Hippocrates denounced such interpretations as charlatanism and argued that this was a human disease
with physical causes. Today, epilepsy and seizures are classified into many different forms, some
suggests as to the origins and the causes of the disease have been provided, and a wide range of

How Did George Orwell Influence The Rise Of Communism
Best distinguished by his cautionary novels on the rise of communism, George Orwell was frequently
influenced by his up bringing, careers, and experiences fighting fascism. Born Eric Arthur Blair,
George Orwell was born in British India to a family he would later famously described as lower upper
middle class . Academically inclined, he was able to obtain a scholarship to St. Cyprian s, one of the
best preparatory schools in England, although he often showed loathing towards the strict policies and
teachers at the school. However, in later years of school his academic interest slipped and with it his
grades. With little options George Orwell joined the Indian imperial police and was sent to Burma. His

Social Labeling Theory Essay
Labeling theory emerged during the mid 1960s and into the early 1970s due to the United States
experiencing a rapid social change caused by economic and political conflict. Labeling theory focuses
on the role social labeling has on the development of crime and deviance. The theory stresses how an
individual who has been labeled as deviant from societal norms might initiate them to continue their
involvement in crime and deviance. Deviant behavior can be defined as conduct that is disapproved by
the public and is typically subject to some form of sanction. In simpler terms, deviant behavior is
socially constructed.
The roots of labeling theory can be traced back as early as 1902 to Cooley s looking glass theory on

This concept referred to formal sanctions. It defined the youth s behavior as evil and extended to the
individual involved, characterizing him or her as evil too (Johannes Knutsson, 1977). Mead was an
innovator of symbolic interactionism and believed an individual s self awareness was created through
interaction with their environment. Theorist Edwin Lemert further developed this idea by explaining
how labeling affects criminality and recidivism among those who are categorized as deviant. His
theoretical approach distinguishes between primary and secondary deviance. Primary deviance
referred to individuals who commit nonviolent behaviors, sometimes referred to as rule breakers. It
should be noted that an individual does not reach this level of primary deviance unless they are caught
and labeled. When an individual is stigmatized and treated as deviant, they began to identity
themselves with groups who also labeled, resulting in them adjusting their behavior to fit this identity
as deviant. For Lemert, secondary deviance exists when an individual chooses to accept and employ to
their deviant status, committing more frequently and more violent crimes. However, criminologists

Standards Based Professional Learning
Because of the demand for accountability in public education, schools are seeking avenues to improve
instruction and student learning. One such path is professional learning. Schools invest large amounts
of time, energy, and money in their teaching staffs for the purpose of impacting student achievement

determine those principles that most affect teacher practice and impact student achievement

to anger helped Lincoln convince the north to unite to support his cause the mistreatment of mankind

To begin, Lincoln states that [during] inaugural address... devoted altogether to saving the Union

happened to be patriotic. If one were to think about it, many who watch speeches, debates, and other
political events are those who seek to know all they can about what is going on in the country. This
statement would anger these people because likewise, a lot of people that happened to be in attendance
were those who desperately wanted the war to end. Those conspiring to destroy the Union were just
causing more anger with in the country. This helps President Lincoln unite the North and the South
because they all have felt the burdens of the war. Although this statement is good for some and bad for

Narration in The Turn of the Screw Essay
Narration in The Turn of the Screw
Henry James makes the governess the narrator because she keeps the readers interest by also being
involved in the story as a main character. However, being involved on this personal level, it can make
the governess exaggerate at times and be over emotional. Her determined and curious nature makes
her an ideal candidate to explore the mysterious happenings, however her imagination keeps the
reader in suspense, as we are never sure how much she has exaggerated the story.
This also adds tension as the full picture is never revealed. This choice of narrator is therefore

James makes us think that there is something unusual about this, because the governess is imagining
the master appearing like that to tell her she s doing a good job, so her imagination becomes reality.
However, it soon becomes clear that this was not the person she was imagining appearing, as he is not
wearing a hat, something no gentleman would be without in Victorian times. Also it is dusk when he
appears, and all of the birds stop singing and the scene is described as stricken with death all of which
create a suitable atmosphere for a spectre to appear in.
The governess s reaction to the sighting is to stand transfixed on the spot, as she cannot believe that
her imagination may have become reality. She is scared, as it says she stood stricken to the spot.
However, she cannot take her eyes away from him, possibly because she doesn t know whether he is
real or a figment of her imagination. Also the fact that they are unchaperoned, and that Peter Quint is

together, and he is wearing no hat; a sign of familiarity, she has a good right to be scared. Henry James

Biodiversity And Its Impact On Biodiversity
Biodiversity is what makes the planet earth unique and different from every other planet in the solar
system. Biodiversity can be studied on a global level all the way down to studying it within a
microscopic ecosystem (National Wildlife Federation, 2015). It is important to understand that
biodiversity can be looked at genetically as well as environmentally as well. For example, genetic
biodiversity is seen in the variation of different breeds within the dog species, while environmental
biodiversity is the diversity of ecosystems and habitats (National Wildlife Federation, 2015).
Preserving biodiversity is perhaps the most important task that humans have to complete while living
on this planet. The ecosystems that make up all of the regions worldwide are immensely complex, so
conservation may be difficult at times. Additionally, many factors influence the species that inhabit
ecosystems, and these factors may complicate the preservation of biodiversity. Moreover, there is a
plethora of threats to biodiversity, both natural and manmade that are destroying ecosystems on a daily
basis. Out of these threats, the human influences are particularly severe and must be taken care of at
all costs. Biodiversity provides countless benefits for every ecosystem and creature, which is what
makes it worthy of conservation. Through the introduction and relocation of species, some degree of
restoration may be possible in the future. Biodiversity is an amazing natural process that makes life

The Legacy Of College Admissions
College admissions are simple. They check your GPA and ACT/SAT test scores and see if your scores
match their expectations. If you do, they will take you. If you don t, they will reject you. What about if

with wealthier parents, the chance of a donation or donations to that college or university is most
likely to substantially increase. Moving on, legacies arrive on campus forming a distinct status group
that is characterized by an abundance of economic, cultural and social capital. With economic capital,
they are more likely to participate in activities and spend more money. And it is what colleges or
universities desire, more money. By partaking in college or university activities, the student will grow
fonder of it later on and might donate to support the institution. In the

Most textbooks and lessons were filled with the accomplishments of male scientists, explorers, artists, and most of all, leaders. It is essential that we educate children at a young age the importance for the push towards gender equality in leadership positions. After all, it is difficult for little girls to believe teachers when say that they can grow up to be anything they want to be when there are male clad posters of the United States presidents hanging up on the wall behind them. We cannot change the faces of the past to match our egalitarian expectations, but we can add an equal mix of genders to the curriculums and environments that all children grow up with to encourage them to change the future. Emma Watson is known for not only her acting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hemingway deliberately shaped the protagonists in The Sun Also Rises as allegorical figures (Bloom, 1985, pp. 107). The novel symbolizes the impotence felt by the main characters after World War I. Jake Barnes, the narrator, had a wound from an accident that happened during the war. The injury damaged his genitalia. As a result, Barnes could no longer make love, but could still feel the desire. Barnes felt physically less than a man. Barnes made a comment about hating homos . This shows that Barnes was insecure about his masculinity. For this reason, he later found himself strongly attracted to the young bullfighter, Pedro Romero, whose manhood stood without women. The wound is a symbol of life

  • 8. Importance Of Discourse Analysis Discourse analysis is the variety of theoretical approaches and analytic emphases concerning the studying and understanding of people s use of language mediums in social action and interaction. This also applies to the development of capitalism and technology. Studies have opened doors to these topics. Despite variation in theoretical approaches, all strands of discourse analysis share a strong social constructionist epistemology. With its roots largely embedded in linguistic philosophy, ethnomethodology and speech act theory (Potter, 1987; Potter Wetherell, 1995). Discourse analysis might be applied to qualitative data if a person were interested in understanding how people s ideas and emotions are pieced together to form versions of reality of the world around them, and how these accounts are played out in social action and interaction. This is the model that the heads of this capitalistic state manipulate the common public. Further, it would be useful if interests lay in exploring and understanding why people use different versions of discourse in differing contexts, and under what conditions do variations arise. Specifically discourse analysis might be utilized by those interested in exploring how powerful discourses, such as racism, are constructed, practiced and normalized (Edley, 2001). Discourse analysis s focus is rooted in three basic tenets: construction, function and variation (Potter, 1987). The assumption is that discourses are constructed through ... Essay on Napoleon Bonaparte and the Catholic Church Tension grew between the Catholic Church and France during the French Revolution, leading to a schism, which deeply devastated the Church s economy. Pope Pius VII and Napoleon Bonaparte came into power as the French Revolution was ending. For different reasons they both saw the importance of restoring Roman Catholicism s position in France. The Catholic Church s initial support of Napoleon greatly affected both parties (O Dwyer 12 14, 43, 49). This statement has led me to ask the following question: To what extent did the support of Napoleon affect the Church s role as a political and economic power in France? The loss of one of its great powers caused the Catholic Church great distress. Pope Pius VI, who ruled during the Revolution, died and in 1799, Pope Pius VII was elected. Pius VII inherited many problems, including the division between France and Rome. Just as Pope Pius VII was coming into power, Napoleon Bonaparte, a young, military genius, was elected as First Consul of the Post Revolutionary French government (O Dwyer 43, 49). Both Napoleon and Pius VII saw the importance in ending the schism and restoring Catholicism in France. Napoleon saw the reestablishment of the Catholic Church in France as a social bedrock and as an ideological anodyne (Ellis 41) and used it to gain immediate political power. The Catholic Church wanted influence in France again and was willing to strike a deal with Napoleon to do so. In 1801 they officially published the Concordat, which restored Catholicism as the main religion in France (O Dwyer 56). In 1802, Napoleon, without Pius consent, added an additional a list of police regulations that severely restricted the Papacy s role in France (Ellis 41), known as the Organic Articles, which aggravated Pope Pius VII. The Church s support of the Concordat legitimized Napoleon s autocratic rule, but it also stopped the schism that the Revolution had started. Due to the attacks on Pearl Harbor, Japanese Americans were highly discriminated against and rounded up into interment camps during the war. Most of these factors taking place in America from World War II up to the early 1960 s, lead to the desire of many middle class white American s to seek new neighborhoods and to segregate them selves from the fear they had. On top of these fears, the ability and access of which an increasing amount of American s started to have during this period made it possible for such migration into new neighborhoods and suburbia. Suburbs grew because of demand for new housing and space following the war. The challenge for Daoist is to transform the entire body spirit continuum to a higher level and to experience themselves as one with the Dao. With this in mind we can see that to Daoist the human body is viewed as a collection of the cosmic energy qi (Kuhn, 2). Qi, is the fundamental energy at life s source. Like the Dao there is only one qi. At conception a tiny bit of Heavenly qi is given to the human body. It maintains life and growth, supports reproduction of life, and declines with age. • 21. Essay On Myasthenia Gravis Myasthenia Gravis Damage to the neuromuscular junctions is due to an autoimmune disease called myasthenia graves. The motor end plates, which are located on skeletal muscles, are affected because there is a decrease in the amount of Ach receptors located on the motor end plate, which is connected to the neuromuscular junction. The decrease is due to the unnecessary production of antibodies, which bind to the motor end plate. This prevents Ach from binding to the receptors to carry out a synapse between the skeletal muscle and a neuron, leading to a stop or weakening of muscle contraction. The decrease in the amounts of synapses cause the skeletal muscle to lose function, become weaker, and tire more easily. Men and women are both at risk for developing myasthenia gravis, but the disease is more prevalent in women. However, the age of diagnosis varies. • 25. Research Paper On Epilepsy Epilepsy is a neurological condition marked by sudden recurrent episodes of sensory disturbance, loss of consciousness, or convulsions, associated with abnormal electrical activity in the brain. It is the tendency to have seizures that start in the brain. The brain is made up of millions of nerve cells that use electrical signals to control the body s functions, senses and thoughts. If the signals are disrupted, the person may have an epileptic seizure (sometimes called a fit or attack ). The brain is the center that controls and regulates all voluntary and involuntary responses in the body. It consists of nerve cells that normally communicate with each other through electrical activity. A seizure occurs when part(s) of the brain receives a burst of abnormal electrical signals that temporarily interrupts normal electrical brain function. • 27. Social Labeling Theory Essay Labeling theory emerged during the mid 1960s and into the early 1970s due to the United States experiencing a rapid social change caused by economic and political conflict. Labeling theory focuses on the role social labeling has on the development of crime and deviance. The theory stresses how an individual who has been labeled as deviant from societal norms might initiate them to continue their involvement in crime and deviance. Deviant behavior can be defined as conduct that is disapproved by the public and is typically subject to some form of sanction. In simpler terms, deviant behavior is socially constructed. The roots of labeling theory can be traced back as early as 1902 to Cooley s looking glass theory on the self, which simply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This concept referred to formal sanctions. It defined the youth s behavior as evil and extended to the individual involved, characterizing him or her as evil too (Johannes Knutsson, 1977). Mead was an innovator of symbolic interactionism and believed an individual s self awareness was created through interaction with their environment. Theorist Edwin Lemert further developed this idea by explaining how labeling affects criminality and recidivism among those who are categorized as deviant. His theoretical approach distinguishes between primary and secondary deviance. Primary deviance referred to individuals who commit nonviolent behaviors, sometimes referred to as rule breakers. It should be noted that an individual does not reach this level of primary deviance unless they are caught and labeled. When an individual is stigmatized and treated as deviant, they began to identity themselves with groups who also labeled, resulting in them adjusting their behavior to fit this identity as deviant. For Lemert, secondary deviance exists when an individual chooses to accept and employ to their deviant status, committing more frequently and more violent crimes. However, criminologists began to ...
