Ethics Of Designer Babies
Parents are given the option to modify their baby s genes through the technique of designer
babies. However, there are ethical concerns about whether the practice of designer babies will be
used for the intended purpose. Since the parents are the ones deciding their baby s genes, they are
able to choose according to their preferences. Therefore, it gives parents the option to decide their
babies appearance and personality. Thus, it leads to the controversial aspect of genderselection
through the technology of designer baby as the sex of a child at birth can be prearranged by
choosing embryos for a specific sexual trait (Verlinsky, 2005, p. 24). Parents can now easily select
the sex of their baby through this technology. In addition, parents ... Show more content on

However, the concept of designer babies is still relatively new; thus, it raise concerns about the
safety of this technique. Also, the process of designer babies has only been experimented on
rabbits and rats, so it has yet to be tested on humans. Therefore, there could be hidden risks and
side effects for humans that have yet to be discovered until after the procedure is completed.
The issue of competence emerges because patients must understand the treatment involved and
the potential side effects, as well as the probability of possible outcomes (Morrison and Furlong,
2014, p. 262). The editing of the genome is still a mystery as there could be unexplored
territories. There could be the possibility of cleaving the wrong genes and as a result serious side
effects may occur when necessary genes are sliced. In addition, unpredictable consequences may
occur in future generations, so prospective problems may not always appear until the birth of the
baby (Pang and Ho, 2016). Thus, it raises the risk of the emergence of new types of diseases or
disabilities if genes are edited. It will be difficult to tell when problems arise during the process
and it may eventually show up only once the irreversible procedure is completed. Furthermore,
the success rate of impregnation is lower than most would like, harvesting eggs from the woman a
procedure not without burdens may have to be done multiple times (Suter, 2007, p. 930). Women
will have to undergo the risk of implantation even though it is not guaranteed that she will become
pregnant as a result. The cost of this procedure is quite significant, but there is still a chance that
the process may not work or is ineffective. Therefore, it is not possible to know the potential risks
until it emerges, so it questions the safety of designer babies because there is still more to learn
about the technique since it is still

Bronze Age Catastrophes
The Bronze Age started around 2300 BC in Europe and it consisted of the new found material of
bronze. It was an important development in many cities during the time. Bronze was used for a
multitude of items including weapons, chariot parts, tools, decorative objects, and ritual vessels.
The bronze age eventually came to an end because of four major catastrophes that came around
1200 BC that help shape the first millennium. Climate change, migration, new technology, and
administrative innovations was the origin of this change. One of the first catastrophe that came and
helped end the bronzeage was climate change. Around 1200 BC many regions in Afro Eurasia were

Planning Process Group Essay
Assignment 1
1. Which process group starts at the start and ends at the end of the project and why?
Monitoring and controlling is the process group that starts at the start and ends at the end as it
performs integrated change control to manage and control changes to the cost baseline, scope and
schedule. Further, it helps in analyzing and measuring the performance of the project and finding
the variation of the project from the project management plan and provides asolutions to those
problems.
2. Why does the closing process group start so early in the chart?
Since some project deliverables get finished before and get the sponsor acknowledgment that is the
reason the closing process group begins ahead of schedule in the chart.
3. Why do the planning and execution process groups have similar shapes and why is the executing
process group skewed to the right?
Both the planning and the execution process groups have the same shape as we know that
everything that is thought ahead and gets regard in planning process group will be done in the
execution process group. Since the execution is done when the fulfillment of the planning process
group, the execution process group is tilted towards the right. Nonetheless, the most elevated
measure of cash and time of all the process groups is taken by execution process group.
4. Did you see that the executing process group is larger and higher than the planning process
group? Why?

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Rheumatic Fever
1. What is causing this murmur?
In the case of Martha, she had an episode of rheumatic fever in her twenties. Rheumatic fever, of
which is an illness brought on by Streptococcus A, produces a protein that attaches to the cell wall
of an organism causing inflammation. This can affect the heart and cause pancarditis, which is an
infection of the entire heart. Endocarditis is the portion of pancarditis that causes valvular
disorders. Though the pulmonic valve is not commonly affected, it is still a possibility. The
valve apparatus can become fused leading to stenosis years after a rheumatic fever episode that
is acute, and damage can become progressive if there are subsequent episodes (Chin, 2014). With
Martha s murmur being low in pitch and more of a rumbling, it is considered a narrowing of the
valve or stenosis. The murmur is located left of the sternal border and in the upper portion. This is
the pulmonic valve region, which would make this a pulmonic valve stenosis (Rao, 2014).
According to Rao (2014), the murmur is due to the leaflets of the pulmonic valve not completely
opening. This causes a resistance of the blood flowing foward through the valve, which happens
during systole of the ventricles. This further causes a turbulence of the blood and makes the sound
of the murmur. Pulmonic valve stenosis can then lead to ventricular hypertrophy of the right
ventricle, which is proportional to how obstructed the valve becomes (Rao, 2014).

Essay on Evolution of the Geeks
Evolution of the Geeks
In the past 20th century, the word geek has evolved into many different meanings. The term
branched off to create a person with low social skills, often with high intelligence, a person highly
interested in computer technology, and a person with a devotion to something that places him or
her outside of the mainstream. Geek usually has negative connotations within popular culture,
where being a geek tends to be an insult. The term can also be a badge of honor among
subcultures, such as the know it all of Star Trek.
Media dictates popular culture. The television sitcoms I ve watched growing up all displayed who
is the stereotype for a geek. Steve Urkel from Family Matters, Screech from Saved By The Bell,

He was often bullied, made fun of, and taken advantaged from the more physically fit male
students. He also provided the comic relief to the show by being the ever so annoying neighbor.
The character was also showed a love interest to Laura Winslow, a popular and smart classmate
and neighbor played by Kellie Shanygne Williams. In order to pursue her heart, Urkel invented a
machine to transform his physical geeky image to a hunky and charming man, which became his
alter ego Stephan.
The need to become accepted into what is considered cool implies that being a geek is
undesirable to the opposite sex. There is shame placed on the geek about his outer appearance.
Urkel created this alter ego to match his crush s status as the popular and beautiful student. People
would consider them a good match since their outer appearances depict cool. If a geek were to go
out with the hottest cheerleader, people would perceive that as abnormal. With the geek s
appearance changed, his confidence is higher and can allow him to walk with his head held up high.
Sex plays a major role when it comes to the gender of geeks. Males are usually favored to portray
geeks. A stereotypical image of a geek would be a pencil neck geek with pocket protectors and
suspenders. It embodies everything that is opposite of the Marlboro man: the rugged All American
man. Levels of masculinity are weighed to determine how much of a man one is. During football

1050 s Film Industry Analysis
After the 1050 s television became a very popular form of entertainment. Because of the cost of a
TV set there were only a few sets in the home of the consumer. For post World
War II Americans, television largely took the movies place as a dominant cultural influence.
The television reached audiences far larger than those attracted by motion pictures, and it projected
images right into family s living rooms. The Paramount decision effectively disintegrated the studio
system, major studios survived by changing the ways they did business and establishing practices
(still in use today) that dramatically reduced their controls of production and exhibition, and that

The Cultural Background Of Greek Myths
As Christopher Vogler quoted in The Writer s Journey, A myth... is a metaphor for a mystery
beyond human comprehension. It is a comparison that helps us understand, by analogy, some aspect
of our mysterious selves. Various countries have myths that connect to their personal background
culture. When it is compared, each myth has a different perspective of how things were created in
the daily life of a person. This includes countries such as Greece and Egypt and how their
backgrounds influences their cultures. Cultural backgrounds play an important role in society. One
moral lesson that is learned in Greek myths is about mother and daughter relationships. Egyptians

Every day, women, slaves, and children were required to stay indoors, while men had freedom
to go wherever they wanted. Women were responsible for household work and children were also
required to stay inside. Until the age of six, children were educated by their mother. Slaves were
treated well at times and they did as they were asked by their owners. (Lin and Don Donn, Greek
Mythology for kids ). Many Greek men spent their time observing and studying the planets and
how astronomy worked. This led to philosophers creating and studying mathematical proofs.
Literature and religious beliefs expanded as well as a new intake of inventions. People often told
stories orally since many were not educated of reading and writing. Many were undergoing

Additionally, a Greek myth such as the story of Demeter and Persephone was well known. Demeter
was a sister of Zeus, who grew and harvested crops. She loved her daughter, Persephone dearly.
As she did, the crops would grow healthier. When Persephone grew into a beautiful goddess,

Sarah Penn Essay
Q2) Characterize Sarah Peen based upon how she is described. What adjectives would you use
to describe her? What activities help to reveal her role as a nineteenth century woman? Sarah
Penn plays the role of a classic mother and wife during the nineteenth century. Sarah was a small
woman, short and straight waisted like a child in her brown cotton gown. Her forehead was mild
and benevolent between the smooth curves of gray hair; there were meek downward lines
about her nose and mouth; but her eyes, fixed upon the old man, looked as if fthe meekness has

Judaism s Views On Euthanasia
Death is one of the most important topics that religions cope with. Since religion deals
with matters of life, death, meaning and virtue, it is not shocking that, for countless people,
religious convictions are the core reasoning for their outlook on euthanasia. Euthanasia is
defined as the mode or act of inducing death painlessly or as a relief for pain. Although there
are different components that play a part in a person s stance on euthanasia, like empathy,
suffering, constitutional rights, etc., this paper will concentrate on the religious aspects of the
topic.
Judaism and Christianity share an abundance of theological similarities. Religious ethicists from
these observances employ individual religious methodologies when seeking to
settle ethical predicaments. In aiming to illuminate their religion s viewpoints on topics of
medical ethics, Jewish and Christian ethicists frequently appeal to text, religious doctrine and
tradition. In addition, religious ethicists use self determination and examination when making
ethical conclusions. Regardless of the modernized secular world we live in today, religious
stances on euthanasia are irrefutably vital considering that religion and medicine are prominent
social forces in society.
What does Judaism teach about euthanasia? Euthanasia, along with other forms of
suicide, are denounced in Jewish thought, mostly because it is conceived as taking a
human life that belongs to G d. Jewish sources view

Comparison Of Grendel And Frankenstein
If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Similarly, if a being
is never provoked by man, will it become a monster? The latter is a question that is put into focus
throughout Gardner s Grendel and Shelley s Frankenstein. The reader learns of Grendel, and of
Frankensteins creation, and must determine if they are truly monsters or merely a product of the
world they live in. It is very easy to take one glance at the seemingly heinous crimes committed by
Grendel and Frankenstein s creation, and based off of this, deem them to be monsters. However, it
is the actions and words of manthat transform both Grendel, and Frankenstein s creation into
monsters. Both Grendel, and Frankenstein s creations go through personal transformations
throughout their lives. They both begin life as innocent creatures with no intention to wreak
havoc. Victor Frankenstein created his creature and then immediately ran away from it in fear.
In reality, the creature just wanted to be loved and His jaws opened, and he muttered some
inarticulate sounds, while a grin wrinkled his cheeks (Shelley 59). The creature was brought to
life, and his first instinct was to emit a loving smile, but he was met with a scream of terror.
Similarly, Grendel began his life as a righteous and pure creature. When Grendel was approached
by drunken men wielding battle axes, he sank to my knees, crying, Friend! Friend! (Gardner 52).
This proves that Grendel s initial instinct was to befriend the men, despite their hostile approach.
While the men continued to hack at Grendel he merely held up a body for protection (Gardner 52)
instead of fighting back. Grendel could have easily overpowered and killed the men if he wanted to
but he chose to simply protect himself. Both creatures started off as innocent and pure until man
got involved. Grendel could only take so much neglect and abuse before he transformed into the
monsterthat readers recognize him to be. The actions of man were nothing short of monstrous, and
they caused Grendel to turn into a monster. The men did not allow Grendel into the Mead Hall and
they tried to kill him whenever they saw him. Even when man was not doing something directly to

Two Negative Impacts Of Transnational Corporations On...
Explain TWO negative impacts of transnational corporations on developing countries.
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to explain why the impacts of transnational corporations on
developing countries are important to understand. Transnational corporations are large companies
that have a head office in one country and subsidiary offices in other countries. They affect all
countries; however, they affect developing countries on a much larger and damaging level. This is
because developing countries are poorer, many people have a lower standard of living, and the
resources available and the amount to hire an employee is significantly lower that one of a
developed country. The two negative impacts caused by transnational corporations that will be
discussed in this report are sweatshops and life expectancy. These impacts are important to
understand because they educate us on how the world of trade is influenced by sweatshops, and
how sweatshops effect an individual s life.
Globalisation
The impacts of globalisation are happening around us every day, with or without us realising it.
Globalisation is the breakdown of traditional barriers between nations, and a trend towards faster
and cheaper movement around the world of people, goods, money and information.
As shown in the figure, many different factors are impacted and impact globalisation. Economic
globalisation consists of the growth and development of international trade. This is the process of

The Theory Of The Scientific Revolution
In the Scientific Revolution, there occurred a shift in humans thinking from the medieval emphasis
on God s eternal unchanging world, which governed people, the universe, and nature, to an
approach that defined knowledge and understanding as derived from the immutable laws of nature
independent of received truth. Scientists changed the way people think about the world. The gears
of the revolution began to turn when Copernicus questioned the geocentric theory, developing his
theory of heliocentrism. Many scientists use the method of beginning with a question,
experimenting, then falsifying the previous theory. This method of thinking became what is now
known as the scientific method. Scientists impacted all fields of sciencefrom cosmology to biology.
The fields of mathematics, chemistry, and medicine were drastically improved because of the
scientists in their fields who discovered new concepts to propell the movement. In all three fields,
there was a thirst for understanding and organization that was answered by the revolutionary new
concepts. For chemistry, it was the development of the scientific method, for mathematics, it was
the organization of the universe, and for medicine, it was the movement towards clinical practices.
Due to prominent mathematicians of the time period, the field of mathematics was expanded
because of the reason that it provided in a socially chaotic time period. In the French language,
raison is the word in french for reason and also the

I do believe that potentially, if you played team sports in high school/college that it will increase
your chances of landing that big job. People do not realize what it takes to play a team sport, it
takes team work, work ethic, mental strength, I can go on and on about what you need to be able to
succeed in a sport. Just having those skills listed above can help you prepare for the career field
you will be going in. Think about having a job, there are a lot of skills you need to possess in order
to succeed in that career field. It is much like playing a team sport; you need to be able to use those
same skills you used when you played a team sport to become successful in the work force. These
are just some of the reasons why playing a team sport will help you land that big job in the work

The Economic Inequality Of Australia
Australia, although being a multicultural country where everyone is equal, there is a severe
presence of economic inequality. With millions of people living poverty, Australia s wealthy
continue to accumulate wealth, whereas the poor continue to become poorer. With the economic
inequality in Australia rising, the Australian government is contributing to this by creating new
policies within the budget, making those who are disadvantaged already worse off. Rather than
creating policies that make the wealthy even wealthier, the government should be reducing the
burden on those who actually have substantial burdens already. The government is aware that there
are ways in which they can reduce the economic inequalityin Australia, however with... Show more

This means that those who are already well off, are getting advances that make them wealthier
and those who are struggling are only getting small advances that determine whether they can
put food on the table and provide for their families. An example of a struggling Australian
dealing with the economic inequality posed against him is Duncan Storrar. Storrar appeared on
a popular political show on the ABC, Q A and posed a question to the panel. I have a disability
and limited education. I ve been a low income earner my whole life and as such I pay a larger
percentage of my income in taxes than the average Australian. Lifting my tax free threshold would
change mine and my children s life. How come rich people get a lift in their threshold? It means
nothing to them but to me it would mean my kids hear something else apart from sorry girls,
daddy is broke (Storrar, 2016). Duncan is just one example of how he economic inequality in
Australia affects its citizens.
The government of Australia highly impacts the economic inequality in Australia with doing things
such as bringing in polices and aiming the budget at certain demographics. After the highly
anticipated budget release of 2016, the government told Australians of the major budget measures
that were going to affect them. This included a raise of the tax bracket for middle income earners,
redefining it as $87,000 rather than the current $80,000. Currently, the bracket is for those who earn

The Language And The Origin Of The English Language
According to David Crystal, linguistics professor at the University of Wales, approximately 20
percent of the world can speak English. With English being the predominant language in the
United States as well as many other parts of the world, it is undoubtedly one of the most
significant languages in modern times. But have you ever wondered about the origins of the
language you speak every day? Where did it come from? Did someone invent it? And why are
some rules of the English language so weird? For example, why is geese the plural of goose? To
get a better understanding of English, it is useful to learn about its long and complex history, and
how the language the majority of us know and use today formed and evolved over time. To learn
the history of the English language, we must first go back in time to Great Britain at about 50
BCE. According to Alastair Kane, writer for Communicaid business English courses, people here
during this time period spoke in what is known as Celtic, but eventually, Latin also became an
influence on their language because of commerce between Great Britain and Rome. Kane also
writes that Latin further shaped the language of Great Britain after it was invaded by the Romans
under Emperor Claudius. Although remnants of this English prototype can be observed in our
modern language, the people of Great Britain certainly weren t speaking what could be considered
actual English. Philip Durkin, principal etymologist at Oxford Dictionaries claims that the

Southern China Research Paper
Southern China is a very different and diverse from America, but why? In this essay I will tell you
how and why the Climate and religion affect food choices and popular foods and table manners.
In Southern China the weather is very humid with up to 75 inches of rain per year. This moist
weather affects the food their by giving the land very fertile soil, witch is perfect for growing
crops. Because of the warm climate the food there can get spoiled very quickly, as a result the
people in south China preserve their vegetables and crops giving the region its sour taste. The
climate in this region is subtropical, which means warm climate almost all year round and basically

Fried rice is a dish in China that can be fried with sauces ( brown rice) or plain (white). Jiaozi is a
classic Chinese dish that is commonly called dumplings and can be steamed, fried, or baked.
Shallow fried Jiaozi is a different type of dumplings that is fried in a pan with oil. Some commonly
used spices is sage and Turmeric root, and a common vegetable is Bok Choy.
And lastly China is known very nice and specific table manners and family rules. In China, a
circle table is better for a family so that the family can see each other better.. The guest of honor
is always seated to the right of the host. Guests are seated after the host s invitation, and it is rude
to seat guests at the place where the dishes are served. At a Chinese dinner, there is large plates of
food that is passed coming counterclockwise, and starts at the host. Once everyone is served the
table may start to eat.
So, after I did all my research I concludes that China is a interesting country with many different
customs than America. Such as, manly only eating plants due to religion. Preserving their foods

Home Schooling Persuasive Essay
Ballard. Eastern. Male. Manual. All of these are public schools right here in Louisville, with
varsity sport teams. If someone lives in Ballard s district, they can go to Ballard and play football,
if a person lives in Easterns district they can still transfer to Ballard and play football, but what if
this person was homeschooled, then what? This child should still have the same opportunities to
play sports at a varsity level with the high schoolof their choosing even if they don t attend that
school. Being homeschooled should not take away the opportunities given through high school
athletics for various reasons but especially since parents of homeschooled kids pay the same
taxes as kids who attend public school. Home schooled kids also need the exposure to the social
skills one would learn through team settings. Also there are various reasons why one maybe

Let s be honest here, without allowing home schooled kids to play high school sports, there is no

Singlepass Lutte Research Paper
Curling your hair with aluminum foil might sound like an outside of the box kind of idea, but you
ll be surprised how effective it is when you tried it yourself. If you have thin, volumeless hair like
mine, this trick is a total life changer. It takes much quicker to finish your entire head than a regular
curling wand, not to mention that it s much less traumatic for those who just start experimenting
with hairstyling tools (I mean, who didn t burn their face or hands using a curling iron?).
For this tutorial, I ll be using my new favorite flat iron by T3, the SinglePass Luxe. It s a newly

Grab a small section of your hair and wrap it around your finger in a loop. Make sure that the end
of each section stays in place so your curl look equally wavy from top to bottom.
PRO TIP: It doesn t matter which direction your loops are facing you ll still get great results using
this method!
Step 3. Grab a piece of tinfoil and wrap each loop of hair in it. Don t use too much or too little
aluminum foil for those purposes your hair should be fully covered, but you don t need many
layers of foil on top of your loop.
Step 4. Using a flat iron, scrunch the foil 3 4 times. Be careful, the foil will be very hot for the
next few seconds so either use heat protective gloves or make sure you arrange your foils in a way
that those do not touch your face.
PRO TIP: While you can put tinfoil all over your hair and then warm up each of the foil cocoons I
recommend heating your foils one by one. That way, you ll allow each piece stay warm for a
longer period of time (read: your curls will last longer!).
Step 5. Take out the foils one by one. Spritz with some hair spray and you are all set!
I hope you enjoyed this fun flat iron trick! Please comment below if you ever tried it yourself. Also,

From Poverty to Prosperity: the Comparison of Jamestown and Plymouth
Long before what we now call America there was nothing but unequipped pilgrims coming from

Unmentionable Times either. This is one of the rules because we must respect everyone in the
community that has been through this. The Unmentionable Times happened before the Great
Rebirth. The last rule for the society is that we must not keep secrets from people and the
Councils. If we find out that someone is keeping a secret they will be punished to go to the
Corrective Detention till they tell. Depends on how big the secret is though. For an example
from the book, Equality 7 2521 kept a secret that he created light in his secret tunnel. He then got
caught. He went to the Council of the Home, but he didn t tell them where he has been. Then the
Council brought him to the Corrective Detention to lash at him till he told. We should not keep
secrets because everyone should know equally what everybody knows. All of these rules must be
followed for us to reach our goal as a society. As a society we will all become one together and

The Teachings Of Muhammad, Siddhartha Gautama ( The Buddha...
Muhammad, Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha), and Jesus Christ were extremely influential
leaders and were all the keys to establishing three of the major religions today; Islam, Buddhism
and Christianity. These religions are currently the largest religions in the world and influence
billions of people every day. All three of these men have shaped the course of history and
redefined the destiny of mankind. They all lived very interesting lives and preached different
lessons to their followers. I would like to start this essay by first looking into the history of each of
these men and later comparing and contrasting the way they lived their lives as well as their
teachings.
Muhammad was born in the year 570 A.D. in the city of Mecca, located now in what is known as
Saudi Arabia. His father, Abdullah died before he was born and his mother, Amina passed away
when Muhammad was around five or six years old. He was then brought up by his grandfather,
Abdul Muttalib, who treated him with the utmost love. Two years passed before his grandfather
also passed away and Muhammad was left in the care of his uncle, Abu Talib and his wife, Fatima.
They treated him just as well if not better than their own children. The love they had for the young
boy was matched by no one.
As Muhammad got older, he became known as a very trust worthy, noble and kind man. When
Muhammad was twenty five years old, he became a trading agent for a wealthy, noble lady by the
name of Khadija. Khadija was so

My Story Of The School Year Of 2010-2011
My story begins in the school year of 2010 2011. I was a fifth grader, eleven years of age, at
Santa Fe 5/6 Center. As per requirements we had to take a music class, and I knew that I could
not sing, so an instrument it was. Most of that year I spent experimenting with wind and string
instruments to find out if I belonged in band or orchestra. I was never really interested in any of
the wind instrument so I atleast knew I was going to be in orchestra. The year ended with me being
skeptical to if I should play an instrument or not.
With the next school year approaching fast I had to make my decision. A few days before sixth
grade started, Santa Fe hosted a little music assembly for the students and their parents to come and
enjoy music and also to provide instruments for the students to try out and possibly buy. I remember
walking around a tad bit nervous looking for an instrument and that s when I heard someone start
playing the cello. I turned to look and saw a man, Mr. Stanley, who later I found out was my cello
teacher, playing the cello. He played so beautifully it inspired me. The warm, rich tone of the cello
filled the room and I remember almost everyone stopped what they were doing just to listen to him
play. I think mother saw the glint in my eyes when I first listened to the cello and she knew that
was my choice. After Mr. Stanley s little performance was done, I approached him and bombarded
him with questions. In the end Mother ended up buying a three fourths

Passover is, without a doubt, one of the most sacred holidays in Jewish culture, and in this

Executive Summary Many factors must be examined to find the underlying reason for the horrible
disaster of the space shuttle Challenger. We will cover both the technical causes to the disaster and
the communication breakdown with NASA. We will also look at the outside pressure that NASA
was receiving from the media, congress and the military. Recommendations for NASA and anyone

If the Orings do not properly seal these gaps it is possible for exhaust gasses to get into the internal
structure of the joint field. The extreme temperatures of the exhaust gasses are too high for the
internal joint, known as the Tang and Clevis, to handle. The Tang and Clevis are the two main parts
of the joint. They are mating sections that are held together with one hundred seventy seven pins.
Without the O rings, the Tang and Clevis are not able to withstand the extreme pressure of exhaust

make sure the O ring was correctly covering the gap without the help of the putty. Blow holes were

Testing the Causality Between Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth
Ned R Jackson
Utah Valley University
March 2015
Abstract
This paper looks to determine the causality of foreign direct investment and economic growth.
Implementing common and basic econometric techniques to test the association between these two
topics in The United Arab Emirates. In past research it has been implicated that FDI has causality in
economic growth mainly due to the ability FDI has to introduce new technology to the host country
from the foreign countries who are in many cases much more technologically advanced. However,
we hope to show that though there may be a stronger causality between FDI to economic growth
that there is enough evidence to show that there are cases in which economic growth is the cause
for the expansion in FDI that has taken place. =Results from the Solow growth model and Unit root
test will allow us to interpret the true relationship between these two economic factors for the
United Arab Emirates specifically.
Introduction
The correlation between foreign direct investment (FDI) and economic growth is well documented
see (Borensztein, De Gregorio, J W. Lee 98). Even though there has been an extensive amount of
research, which includes both FDI and economic growth, there still seems to be a substantial divide
between the results; which are concluded within these papers. To begin in this research paper we

Examples Of Sexual Repression In Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
Sexual repression in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof Sexual repression is a psychological disorder where
people cannot admit their sexuality to others because they feel ashamed about it. Suppressing these
intense feelings can lead to emotional stress. Some will even feel the need to abuse substances as a
coping mechanism. The consequences of repressed sexualityare explored in the playCat on a Hot
Tin Roof, where author Tennessee Williams looks at homosexualityand alcoholism, two issues he
faced during his lifetime. Williams is able to express himself through the play s protagonist, Brick,
who struggles with these very same things. In the play however, Williams goes a step further by

Brick has difficulty accepting the fact that he might be gay and, as such, does not open up about
his feelings. This constant repression leads to a poor relationship between him and his wife that
lasts throughout the play. Brick s repression causes Maggie to feel confined, although she does
not seem to know why at first. In one scene in the play, Maggie tries to get Brick to talk about the
memory of his friend, Skipper, but he just replies by pouring himself a drink. She clearly tries to
facilitate Brick s opening up to her about his feelings but he simply turns to alcohol as the
constant cure to his problems. Brick, as well as many repressed homosexuals, suffer from
alcoholism as a consequence to repression (Sutton). Maggie does not approach Brick s sexuality
in a sympathetic way. She says, in reference to Skipper, You two had something that had to be
kept on ice, yes, incorruptible, yes! (Williams 44). Maggie explains to Brick which indicates that
she knew the true nature of Brick and Skipper s relationship and how Skipper s memory will
always be everlasting. She does not sympathize with him and reminds him that it should be kept on

In 1912, the unsinkable ship Titanic ruptured its hull on a large iceberg, causing a completely
unexpected disaster that shocked the world. Looking at this iceberg, or any other for that
matter, the average observer likely draws the conclusion that what he sees is a good portion of
the entire slab of frozen water. However, the observer only sees about 10 percent of its entirety:
in order to view the whole iceberg, he must look below the surface to understand how such a
seemingly small iceberg could sink a such a huge ship. And just as any observer should look
deeper in order to understand the sinking of the Titanic, I did the same with mathematics when I
read Taming the Infinite: The story of mathematics from the first numbers to chaos theory. Never
before had I even considered the ideas discussed in the book written by Ian Stewart. What I found
within ruptured a mental hull in brain, allowing the history of math to flow into my mind. Before
reading the first two chapters, I had always assumed that I had a fairly decent grasp of math;
however, after completing the assignment I realized the vastness of its history which reaches into
depths I d never enter into otherwise. In my previous math classes, ranging from Algebra I to AP
Calculus, I never had been assigned to anything dealing with the actual history of math. So, much
to my surprise as stated earlier, I found many aspects of the book to be infinitely fascinating. In the
first chapter, I was astonished to learn

Saic Healthcare Strategy
SAIC uses motivation, social skills and self regulation as they operate in the IT part of the health
care industry, these three ideas gives the company an opportunity for an increase in revenue and

companies have is competitive both advantage and sustained, the difference is that competitiveness

described as a luxury for most businesses but is now viewed as essential for corporations in the
industry to that want to keep up with the current trend and still continue to maintain their status in

Explain Why the Arab Invasions of 710 and 711 Were so...
Explain why the Arab invasions of 710 and 711 were so successful. In answering this question we
must first appreciate the difficulty historians face in discovering the real truth of the early Arab
invasions, a fact well demonstrated in the varying estimates of Arab invasion forces (ranging from
1,700 9000 in current publications). Scant contemporary evidence exists beyond a short narrative
present in a Spanish chronicle of 754, a vital surviving Islamic administrative document of the
time, and some archaeological remains. Our knowledge of the invasions is largely founded on the
works of later Islamic historians, the Ajbar Machmua text for example and the works of Ibn Idhari
and al Maqqari. Unfortunately there are fewer Christian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The existence of a rival claimant caused dangerous divisions throughout the kingdom and in
Akhila s demesne land of Tarragona and Narbonne coins were minted without the king s image,
a clear measure of defiance. It is also reported in some sources that during the invasion Akhila
conspired with the Arabs to depose Roderic. Some go as far as to say that during the final battle
a wing of Roderic s army loyal to Akhila turned on him in the midst of the fighting. Whether this
is true can hardly be proven but something catastrophic must have happened for the King s army
supposedly far larger than Tarik s (Estimates 24,000 30,000 ) to suffer such a devastating defeat.
Many historians support the idea that elements within the Visigothic nobility gave assistance to
the invaders probably as a means of removing Roderic. It is unlikely however that they foresaw
the long term implications of the invasion and the extension of Muslim presence in Iberia. It is
argued that as well as the problems the succession dispute posed, the very fabric of Visigothic
society itself was weak. It is suggested that the Visgothic nobility of the time, who had placed
themselves above the native Hispano Roman population in terms of rights and privileges, were
suffering a backlash from the lower sections of society. Incidents of rebellion had increased as had
the number of slaves deserting their Lords. Many runaways turned to outlawry and as a consequence

Meat Consumption
23 May 2011
One Bite At a Time Most Americans are aware of global warming, cancer, heart disease and the
fact that the earth s supply of good water is diminishing. In an effort to conserve our planet people
drive hybrid cars, recycle, and use low energy light bulbs and appliances, which is great. However,
most Americans are unaware and uninformed about how meat effects global warming, our health,
and how much of our planet s water and resources meat production consumes. Meat contributes to
global warming, increases risk for cancer, causes heart disease and uses a tremendous amount of
resources to produce, therefore people need to be informed about what they are eating through food

disease (Marcus 3). If people cut back or eliminated animal products from their diets, not only
would they be eating less of the foods that cause their bodies harm, they would be eating more
nutrient rich foods (fruits and vegetables) that help fight off and prevent disease. Doctors like
Dean Ornish and John MacDougall have discovered that plant based diets have the power to

Raisin In The Sun Stereotypes
A Raisin in the Sun was written by Lorraine Hansberry. Lorraine was born in Chicago, Illinois
where both of her parents were active in the black community. When young, she had big time
social injustice names like Jesse Owens and Duke Ellington come to her house. Her parents
contributed large sums of money to the NAACP and the Urban League. Lorraine and her family
moved to a white neighborhood in Chicago and was attacked by the neighbors. Although they were
attacked, the Hansberry family stayed until the court ordered them to leave. This case made it to
the Supreme Court as Hansberry vs Lee, ruling restrictive covenants illegal. Lorraine attended the
University of Wisconsin in Madison. She broke the family tradition of going to a black college....

First time the majority of the cast was African American. The thing that makes this piece so
special is the decade in which she wrote and this play. In the 1950s, it was portrayed as a good
time for economy and blacks where content with their inferior status. This play was a
revolutionary work for this time in the 1950s. Most plays didn t depict what an actual black
family goes through on American Stage. African American roles before this play would be
small, comedic roles and ethnic stereotypes. Hansberry shows a black family in the light of
reality where it was comedic, it was real life struggles. There were issues throughout the play
brought up such as poverty, discrimination, and the constitution of African American racial
identity. This play shows the real life tensions between the black and white societies. Not only is
Hansberry talking about blacks in American but she has issues of Africans anticolonial struggles
as well. Another risky topic Hansberry shared in the play was feminism. The character Beneatha
showed that women could have ambitious dreams and goals as well. Women didn t have to
depend on marriage and just become a housewife, they could work hard for themselves. Even the
topic of abortion was addressed even though it was illegal in this error. Hansberry main point of
the play was to focus on dreams. Every main character in the play had their own dream.
Materialistic dreams created problems in the family and happiness. Hansberry focus was to do

Dehumanization In Bartleby, The Scrivener
In Melville s Bartleby, the scrivener and Douglass s narrative both main characters are affected by
some sort of dehumanization. Each one was different than the other and had different effects on the
characters. While Bartleby was in a city, staying in his workspace all the time, Douglass lived the
life of a slave in America and was severely mistreated. They both lost their humanity through work
and being treated less than human beings. This can affect people in many ways, the side effects just
depend on each person. No matter how it changes people, the way to cure dehumanization is
through other people. Human beings need one another to make them feel human.
Melville created Bartleby as quite a unique character. He lives in the lawyer s office and works as a

he first arrived at the office he did an amazing job working night and day. The narrator explains, I

Raising The Percentage Of Junk Food In America
A problem with junk food in America is obesity. According to the LA County Department of
Public Health, 42% of children are obese or overweight. States should have an extra tax on junk
food or other unhealthy foods. Raising the tax could decrease the percentage of obesity by making
Americans pay more money. Another reason why is that junk foodis very unhealthy. Finally, taxing
the products could increase the amount of money the government gets for taxes. Obesity is a big
problem in America, and the percentage rate has gone up consistently over the past years. Mostly,
all states have a percentage of obesity over 30%. If the states raised the taxes, people might not buy
as much junk foodas before. The number could decrease. Many foods

My phone lit up with a text that read Hey you should come to practice today! I knew it was from

August morning in order to go run. At cross country practice. I dragged my feet for a few days
but after many more encouraging morning texts, I finally got out of bed, laced up my shoes, and
asked my mom to drive me to the green belt. I was joining cross country. Having never run a full
mile in my life, I was absolutely sure that runningfor no good reason every day would be a
complete flop and I would quit after a few days. I was dead wrong. Cross country would not let
me quit. It not only would not let me quit, but it taught me to not be a quitter. My four years on
the cross country team taught me so much more than how to run. I learned some of the most
valuable lessons of my life through cross country. Most years, we had a quote on the back of our
game day shirts. One of my favorite quotes read, Pain is inevitable, sufferingis optional. This quote
is not only relevant to running but to life as well. Every person will experience pain in their lives

can easily be self inflicted, and, just as easily, be avoided. This quote encouraged me to push

restaurant business. It will be a traditional UK restaurant with south Asian flavor. The verity of
dishes from south Asia will be combined with UK s traditional dishes. People who look for
something new will be our target and the cost of food will not be too high. Our customers will
be middle class people who love food. At first I will start small but gradually I will expand my
business. And in future, I d like to own a chain of restaurant. The aim of my business will be
sufficient profit, proper management, serving food lovers at low cost and gradually grow in a big
chain of restaurants. I d like to manage my business all by myself, which will give me sole
authority but I want to use participative leadership style in managing business. My business will
demand some employees from south Asia and as I want to combine south Asian flavor with
traditional UK flavor, I will also need some UK citizens as my employees. I will have to deal with

President Lyndon B. Johnson
New president Lyndon B. Johnson acquired a troublesome circumstance in Vietnam, as the South
Vietnamese government was in shambles and the Viet Cong was making substantial additions in
provincial ranges of the South. Despite the fact that Johnson charged himself as an intense hostile
to Communist, he vowed to respect Kennedy s constrained troop duties in Vietnam. In reality,
Johnson took care of the Vietnam circumstance respectably amid the early piece of his term,
endeavoring to proceed with Kennedy s projects without drastically heightening the war.
New Strategies
Johnson made a few changes in U.S. military authority. Despite the fact that Robert S. McNamara
stayed as secretary of guard, General Earle G. Wheeler turned into the new executive of the Joint
Chiefs of Staff. General William C. Westmoreland was instated as authority of the MACV,
supplanting past administrator General Paul Harkins, by then alluded to as General Blimp for his
propensity to swell the ARVN s victories.
Westmoreland, sickened with the debasement and ineptitude of the ARVN, pushed for 200,000
American ground troops. In the interim, National Security Advisor McGeorge Bundy contended for
expanded besieging of focuses in North Vietnam, particularly processing plants. McNamara, an
understudy of amusement hypothesis, pushed a one good turn deserves another strategy against
North Vietnam ( U.S. powers would strike Hanoi if Viet Cong went in all out attack mode in South

The Marine Mammal Protection Act
Abstract
This paper includes information a particular environmental law. Specifically, the Marine Mammal
Protection Act is discussed along with the history and background of this particular environmental
law. In addition, the reasoning behind its existence will be elaborately deliberated.
The Marine Mammal Protection Act
The Marine Mammal Protection Act was established and signed in 1972. According to Ray and
Potter (2011), this bill was passed, despite some times contentious testimony, without significant
opposition or debate by both the House of Representatives and the Senate and was signed into law
on 21 October 1972 . This particular environmental act sought to protect whales, dolphins, ... Show

Congress created the Marine Mammal Protection Act as a reaction to the public s concern that
human activities were threatening to extinguish certain species of marine mammals. As Dye (1993)
states, Congress enacted the MMPA to prohibit the harassing, catching and killing of marine
mammals by U.S. citizens or within the jurisdiction of the United States .
The MMPA is managed by primarily by both the US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) external and
the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) external. The Marine Mammal
Commission (MMC) external was bought in also to review and amend existing policies. This group
of three members, chosen by the U.S. President, is appointed for three year terms. The FWS and
NOAA have different roles in protecting marine mammals; the first taking responsibility for sea
otters, walruses, polar bears, manatees; the latter taking responsibility for pinnipeds, including seals
and sea lions, and cetaceans such as whales and dolphins. Also, the Animal and Plant Health
Inspection Service external, part of the Department of Agriculture, is accountable for the
regulations managing marine mammals in captivity.
There have been a number of amendments to the MMPA since 1972. According to Risenhoover
(2012), these amendments have added more legislation or, in some parts, lessened the regulations .
An example is the International Dolphin Conservation Act

Adam Smith and Karl Marx s Views on the Deregulation of University Fees
INTRODUCTION
The Abbott government s recent proposal for deregulation of university fees in Australia has
brought about much controversial debate. Under current policy, university fees are set at a fixed
rate, in which a price ceiling is placed on the amount universities can charge students and with no
interest on student loans. The new proposal to deregulate these fees eliminates the price ceiling
and gives universities the freedom to set tuition fees at any level they see fit. This holds two
possible implications: (1) this would increase competition between universities and drive fees
down; or (2) the freedom granted to universities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Smith started a career as a lecturer at both Oxford University and the University of Glasgow. The
turning point of his life to revolutionary change was in 1764, when he became the tutor of a young
duke and travelled with him around Europe for more than two years. It was this trip that not only
gave him the opportunity to meet many other great thinkers, but it also provided him with enough
money to return home and focus on producing his most famous book, Wealth of Nations (1776) .
The value of Wealth of Nations did not lie on the presented ideas being original, but it rested on
the brilliant way in which Smith organized and fitted the different ideas from different thinkers
into one massive masterpiece like a completed jigsaw puzzle, his work has been described as a
comprehensive landscape of economics . His work and contribution to the world of economics made
him the Father of Economics and inspired many economists after him such as David Ricardo and
Thomas Malthus.
Essentially, Smith s arguments were focused on the rationale that individuals were all motivated
by self gain and a desire for wealth. In other words, individuals will act or perform tasks for the
purposes of gaining a benefit or increasing his/her wealth. As quoted from Wealth of Nations, it is
not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker, that we can expect our dinner,
but from their regard to their own interest . Smith argued that this sort of behaviour

The Enlightenment And Its Influence On Scotland s Culture
Before the Scottish Enlightenment which began in the second half of the 18th century, religion was
a centerpiece of many western cultures. Members of Scotland s society viewed the world with a
religious specifically Christian lense (Dickenson 260). Essentially the highest authority in Scotland
at this time was the Presbyterian Church of Scotland ( Constitution of the.. ). Once the
Enlightenment began in Scotland this religious lense was challenged and the idea of viewing
religionand the world as a whole through a rational lense became popular. Great thinkers such as
David Hume challenged the church and the general public with arguments that put the validity of
faithand religion as a whole into question. In addition to there being critics of religion, there were
also thinkers such as George Campbell who actively defended Christianity. It is no doubt that this
shift in thinking significantly impacted Scotland s culture, but in in what ways was this shift to

It was during the Enlightenment that there was a great shift in where people found authority a new

from finding authority in the church to finding authority in rational thinking (McGrew), studying
religion in the context of the Enlightenment forced Christians to better understand and articulate
their beliefs. This urge to think rationally was not only important for the religious, but it also gave

Poetry
A Soldier
By Robert Frost
He is that fallen lance that lies as hurled,
That lies unlifted now, come dew, come rust,
But still lies pointed as it plowed the dust.
If we who sight along it round the world,
See nothing worthy to have been its mark,
It is because like men we look too near,
Forgetting that as fitted to the sphere,
Our missiles always make too short an arc.
They fall, they rip the grass, they intersect
The curve of earth, and striking, break their own;
They make us cringe for metal point on stone.
But this we know, the obstacle that checked
And tripped the body, shot the spirit on
Further than target ever showed or shone

Young as she is, the stuff
Of her life is a great cargo, and some of it heavy:
I wish her a lucky passage.
But now it is she who pauses,
As if to reject my thought and its easy figure.
A stillness greatens, in which
The whole house seems to be thinking,
And then she is at it again with a bunched clamor
Of strokes, and again is silent.
I remember the dazed starling
Which was trapped in that very room, two years ago;
How we stole in, lifted a sash
And retreated, not to affright it;
And how for a helpless hour, through the crack of the door,
We watched the sleek, wild, dark
And iridescent creature
Batter against the brilliance, drop like a glove
To the hard floor, or the desk top,
And wait then, humped and bloody,
For the wits to try it again; and how our spirits
Rose when, suddenly sure,
It lifted off from a chair back,
Beating a smooth course for the right window
And clearing the sill of the world.
It is always a matter, my darling,
Of life or death, as I had forgotten. I wish
What I wished you before, but harder.
What are frail? Spring blossoms and youth;
What are deep? The ocean and truth.
How can sorrow be heavy as said in the poem? Today and Tomorrow be brief? Youth be frail? And
truth be deep?

  • 2. Ethics Of Designer Babies Parents are given the option to modify their baby s genes through the technique of designer babies. However, there are ethical concerns about whether the practice of designer babies will be used for the intended purpose. Since the parents are the ones deciding their baby s genes, they are able to choose according to their preferences. Therefore, it gives parents the option to decide their babies appearance and personality. Thus, it leads to the controversial aspect of genderselection through the technology of designer baby as the sex of a child at birth can be prearranged by choosing embryos for a specific sexual trait (Verlinsky, 2005, p. 24). However, the concept of designer babies is still relatively new; thus, it raise concerns about the safety of this technique. Also, the process of designer babies has only been experimented on rabbits and rats, so it has yet to be tested on humans. Therefore, there could be hidden risks and side effects for humans that have yet to be discovered until after the procedure is completed. The issue of competence emerges because patients must understand the treatment involved and the potential side effects, as well as the probability of possible outcomes (Morrison and Furlong, 2014, p. 262). The editing of the genome is still a mystery as there could be unexplored territories. There could be the possibility of cleaving the wrong genes and as a result serious side effects may occur when necessary genes are sliced. In addition, unpredictable consequences may occur in future generations, so prospective problems may not always appear until the birth of the baby (Pang and Ho, 2016). Thus, it raises the risk of the emergence of new types of diseases or disabilities if genes are edited. It will be difficult to tell when problems arise during the process and it may eventually show up only once the irreversible procedure is completed. Furthermore, the success rate of impregnation is lower than most would like, harvesting eggs from the woman a procedure not without burdens may have to be done multiple times (Suter, 2007, p. 930). Women will have to undergo the risk of implantation even though it is not guaranteed that she will become pregnant as a result. The cost of this procedure is quite significant, but there is still a chance that the process may not work or is ineffective. Therefore, it is not possible to know the potential risks until it emerges, so it questions the safety of designer babies because there is still more to learn about the technique since it is still ... Monitoring and controlling is the process group that starts at the start and ends at the end as it performs integrated change control to manage and control changes to the cost baseline, scope and schedule. • 6. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Rheumatic Fever 1. What is causing this murmur? In the case of Martha, she had an episode of rheumatic fever in her twenties. Rheumatic fever, of which is an illness brought on by Streptococcus A, produces a protein that attaches to the cell wall of an organism causing inflammation. This can affect the heart and cause pancarditis, which is an infection of the entire heart. Endocarditis is the portion of pancarditis that causes valvular disorders. Though the pulmonic valve is not commonly affected, it is still a possibility. The valve apparatus can become fused leading to stenosis years after a rheumatic fever episode that is acute, and damage can become progressive if there are subsequent episodes (Chin, 2014). With Martha s murmur being low in pitch and more of a rumbling, it is considered a narrowing of the valve or stenosis. The murmur is located left of the sternal border and in the upper portion. This is the pulmonic valve region, which would make this a pulmonic valve stenosis (Rao, 2014). According to Rao (2014), the murmur is due to the leaflets of the pulmonic valve not completely opening. This causes a resistance of the blood flowing foward through the valve, which happens during systole of the ventricles. This further causes a turbulence of the blood and makes the sound of the murmur. Pulmonic valve stenosis can then lead to ventricular hypertrophy of the right ventricle, which is proportional to how obstructed the valve becomes (Rao, 2014). 2. What is causing her S3 heart ... In order to pursue her heart, Urkel invented a machine to transform his physical geeky image to a hunky and charming man, which became his alter ego Stephan. Urkel created this alter ego to match his crush s status as the popular and beautiful student. People would consider them a good match since their outer appearances depict cool. If a geek were to go out with the hottest cheerleader, people would perceive that as abnormal. With the geek s appearance changed, his confidence is higher and can allow him to walk with his head held up high. Sex plays a major role when it comes to the gender of geeks. Males are usually favored to portray geeks. A stereotypical image of a geek would be a pencil neck geek with pocket protectors and suspenders. Her forehead was mild and benevolent between the smooth curves of gray hair; there were meek downward lines about her nose and mouth; but her eyes, fixed upon the old man, looked as if fthe meekness has been the result of her own will, never of the will of another (Freeman 308). She defends her husband, when Nanny questions the building of a new barn instead of a new house. Sarah was a good wife; she made all the meals father liked, and did the cleaning. Even though she was promised a new house forty years ago, she finally said to father, I ain t complained; I ve got along forty years, an suppose I should forty more, if it wasn t for that (Freeman 314). This the turning point for her character; the start of her revolt. I would describe Sarah Penn as strong, determined, courageous, and selfless. Sarah carried on for forty years in an... • 14. Judaism s Views On Euthanasia Death is one of the most important topics that religions cope with. Since religion deals with matters of life, death, meaning and virtue, it is not shocking that, for countless people, religious convictions are the core reasoning for their outlook on euthanasia. Euthanasia is defined as the mode or act of inducing death painlessly or as a relief for pain. Although there are different components that play a part in a person s stance on euthanasia, like empathy, suffering, constitutional rights, etc., this paper will concentrate on the religious aspects of the topic. Judaism and Christianity share an abundance of theological similarities. Religious ethicists from these observances employ individual religious methodologies when seeking to settle ethical predicaments. In aiming to illuminate their religion s viewpoints on topics of medical ethics, Jewish and Christian ethicists frequently appeal to text, religious doctrine and tradition. In addition, religious ethicists use self determination and examination when making ethical conclusions. Regardless of the modernized secular world we live in today, religious stances on euthanasia are irrefutably vital considering that religion and medicine are prominent social forces in society. What does Judaism teach about euthanasia? Euthanasia, along with other forms of suicide, are denounced in Jewish thought, mostly because it is conceived as taking a human life that belongs to G d. • 15. Comparison Of Grendel And Frankenstein If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Similarly, if a being is never provoked by man, will it become a monster? The latter is a question that is put into focus throughout Gardner s Grendel and Shelley s Frankenstein. The reader learns of Grendel, and of Frankensteins creation, and must determine if they are truly monsters or merely a product of the world they live in. It is very easy to take one glance at the seemingly heinous crimes committed by Grendel and Frankenstein s creation, and based off of this, deem them to be monsters. However, it is the actions and words of manthat transform both Grendel, and Frankenstein s creation into monsters. Both Grendel, and Frankenstein s creations go through personal transformations throughout their lives. They both begin life as innocent creatures with no intention to wreak havoc. Victor Frankenstein created his creature and then immediately ran away from it in fear. In reality, the creature just wanted to be loved and His jaws opened, and he muttered some inarticulate sounds, while a grin wrinkled his cheeks (Shelley 59). The creature was brought to life, and his first instinct was to emit a loving smile, but he was met with a scream of terror. Similarly, Grendel began his life as a righteous and pure creature. When Grendel was approached by drunken men wielding battle axes, he sank to my knees, crying, Friend! Friend! (Gardner 52). This proves that Grendel s initial instinct was to befriend the men, despite their hostile approach. While the men continued to hack at Grendel he merely held up a body for protection (Gardner 52) instead of fighting back. Grendel could have easily overpowered and killed the men if he wanted to but he chose to simply protect himself. Both creatures started off as innocent and pure until man got involved. Grendel could only take so much neglect and abuse before he transformed into the monsterthat readers recognize him to be. The actions of man were nothing short of monstrous, and they caused Grendel to turn into a monster. The men did not allow Grendel into the Mead Hall and they tried to kill him whenever they saw him. Even when man was not doing something directly to Grendel, their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Two Negative Impacts Of Transnational Corporations On... Explain TWO negative impacts of transnational corporations on developing countries. Introduction The purpose of this report is to explain why the impacts of transnational corporations on developing countries are important to understand. Transnational corporations are large companies that have a head office in one country and subsidiary offices in other countries. They affect all countries; however, they affect developing countries on a much larger and damaging level. This is because developing countries are poorer, many people have a lower standard of living, and the resources available and the amount to hire an employee is significantly lower that one of a developed country. The two negative impacts caused by transnational corporations that will be discussed in this report are sweatshops and life expectancy. These impacts are important to understand because they educate us on how the world of trade is influenced by sweatshops, and how sweatshops effect an individual s life. Globalisation The impacts of globalisation are happening around us every day, with or without us realising it. Globalisation is the breakdown of traditional barriers between nations, and a trend towards faster and cheaper movement around the world of people, goods, money and information. As shown in the figure, many different factors are impacted and impact globalisation. Economic globalisation consists of the growth and development of international trade. This is the process of ... • 17. The Theory Of The Scientific Revolution In the Scientific Revolution, there occurred a shift in humans thinking from the medieval emphasis on God s eternal unchanging world, which governed people, the universe, and nature, to an approach that defined knowledge and understanding as derived from the immutable laws of nature independent of received truth. Scientists changed the way people think about the world. The gears of the revolution began to turn when Copernicus questioned the geocentric theory, developing his theory of heliocentrism. Many scientists use the method of beginning with a question, experimenting, then falsifying the previous theory. This method of thinking became what is now known as the scientific method. Scientists impacted all fields of sciencefrom cosmology to biology. The fields of mathematics, chemistry, and medicine were drastically improved because of the scientists in their fields who discovered new concepts to propell the movement. In all three fields, there was a thirst for understanding and organization that was answered by the revolutionary new concepts. For chemistry, it was the development of the scientific method, for mathematics, it was the organization of the universe, and for medicine, it was the movement towards clinical practices. Due to prominent mathematicians of the time period, the field of mathematics was expanded because of the reason that it provided in a socially chaotic time period. Just having those skills listed above can help you prepare for the career field you will be going in. Think about having a job, there are a lot of skills you need to possess in order to succeed in that career field. With millions of people living poverty, Australia s wealthy continue to accumulate wealth, whereas the poor continue to become poorer. With the economic inequality in Australia rising, the Australian government is contributing to this by creating new policies within the budget, making those who are disadvantaged already worse off. Rather than creating policies that make the wealthy even wealthier, the government should be reducing the burden on those who actually have substantial burdens already. Storrar appeared on a popular political show on the ABC, Q A and posed a question to the panel. I have a disability and limited education. I ve been a low income earner my whole life and as such I pay a larger percentage of my income in taxes than the average Australian. The government of Australia highly impacts the economic inequality in Australia with doing things such as bringing in polices and aiming the budget at certain demographics. After the highly anticipated budget release of 2016, the government told Australians of the major budget measures that were going to affect them. With English being the predominant language in the United States as well as many other parts of the world, it is undoubtedly one of the most significant languages in modern times. But have you ever wondered about the origins of the language you speak every day? Where did it come from? Did someone invent it? And why are some rules of the English language so weird? For example, why is geese the plural of goose? To get a better understanding of English, it is useful to learn about its long and complex history, and how the language the majority of us know and use today formed and evolved over time. To learn the history of the English language, we must first go back in time to Great Britain at about 50 BCE. According to Alastair Kane, writer for Communicaid business English courses, people here during this time period spoke in what is known as Celtic, but eventually, Latin also became an influence on their language because of commerce between Great Britain and Rome. Kane also writes that Latin further shaped the language of Great Britain after it was invaded by the Romans under Emperor Claudius. Although remnants of this English prototype can be observed in our modern language, the people of Great Britain certainly weren t speaking what could be considered actual English. If the Orings do not properly seal these gaps it is possible for exhaust gasses to get into the internal structure of the joint field. The extreme temperatures of the exhaust gasses are too high for the internal joint, known as the Tang and Clevis, to handle. The Tang and Clevis are the two main parts of the joint. They are mating sections that are held together with one hundred seventy seven pins. Without the O rings, the Tang and Clevis are not able to withstand the extreme pressure of exhaust gasses. 3 Figure 1. Cross section view of field joint located in the Solid Rocket Booster Four Technical Problems First let s look at the four mechanical aspects of the Challengers problems, blow holes, O Ring erosion, joint rotation, and the response of O Rings during low temperature. The condition of the primary seal is essential to the successful operation of the rocket booster. Engineers had to make sure that the seal was not damaged, so they increased the pressure of the leak test to above the pressure that the putty could withstand. This was supposed to make sure the O ring was correctly covering the gap without the help of the putty. Blow holes were tiny tunnel like holes that were left in the zinc chromate putty of the rocket booster insulation. The putty was supposed to protect the O rings from the hot exhaust. The holes were a result of pressurized test known as the leak check port. The leak test left engineers worried; they didn t think that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Testing the Causality Between Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth Ned R Jackson Utah Valley University March 2015 Abstract This paper looks to determine the causality of foreign direct investment and economic growth. Implementing common and basic econometric techniques to test the association between these two topics in The United Arab Emirates. In past research it has been implicated that FDI has causality in economic growth mainly due to the ability FDI has to introduce new technology to the host country from the foreign countries who are in many cases much more technologically advanced. However, we hope to show that though there may be a stronger causality between FDI to economic growth that there is enough evidence to show that there are cases in which economic growth is the cause for the expansion in FDI that has taken place. =Results from the Solow growth model and Unit root test will allow us to interpret the true relationship between these two economic factors for the United Arab Emirates specifically. Introduction The correlation between foreign direct investment (FDI) and economic growth is well documented see (Borensztein, De Gregorio, J W. Lee 98). Even though there has been an extensive amount of research, which includes both FDI and economic growth, there still seems to be a substantial divide between the results; which are concluded within these papers. Suppressing these intense feelings can lead to emotional stress. Some will even feel the need to abuse substances as a coping mechanism. The consequences of repressed sexualityare explored in the playCat on a Hot Tin Roof, where author Tennessee Williams looks at homosexualityand alcoholism, two issues he faced during his lifetime. In one scene in the play, Maggie tries to get Brick to talk about the memory of his friend, Skipper, but he just replies by pouring himself a drink. She clearly tries to facilitate Brick s opening up to her about his feelings but he simply turns to alcohol as the constant cure to his problems. Brick, as well as many repressed homosexuals, suffer from alcoholism as a consequence to repression (Sutton). Maggie does not approach Brick s sexuality in a sympathetic way. Looking at this iceberg, or any other for that matter, the average observer likely draws the conclusion that what he sees is a good portion of the entire slab of frozen water. However, the observer only sees about 10 percent of its entirety: in order to view the whole iceberg, he must look below the surface to understand how such a seemingly small iceberg could sink a such a huge ship. And just as any observer should look deeper in order to understand the sinking of the Titanic, I did the same with mathematics when I read Taming the Infinite: The story of mathematics from the first numbers to chaos theory. Never before had I even considered the ideas discussed in the book written by Ian Stewart. What I found within ruptured a mental hull in brain, allowing the history of math to flow into my mind. In answering this question we must first appreciate the difficulty historians face in discovering the real truth of the early Arab invasions, a fact well demonstrated in the varying estimates of Arab invasion forces (ranging from 1,700 9000 in current publications). Scant contemporary evidence exists beyond a short narrative present in a Spanish chronicle of 754, a vital surviving Islamic administrative document of the time, and some archaeological remains. Our knowledge of the invasions is largely founded on the works of later Islamic historians, the Ajbar Machmua text for example and the works of Ibn Idhari and al Maqqari. The existence of a rival claimant caused dangerous divisions throughout the kingdom and in Akhila s demesne land of Tarragona and Narbonne coins were minted without the king s image, a clear measure of defiance. It is also reported in some sources that during the invasion Akhila conspired with the Arabs to depose Roderic. Some go as far as to say that during the final battle a wing of Roderic s army loyal to Akhila turned on him in the midst of the fighting. Whether this is true can hardly be proven but something catastrophic must have happened for the King s army supposedly far larger than Tarik s (Estimates 24,000 30,000 ) to suffer such a devastating defeat. Many historians support the idea that elements within the Visigothic nobility gave assistance to the invaders probably as a means of removing Roderic. It is unlikely however that they foresaw the long term implications of the invasion and the extension of Muslim presence in Iberia. It is argued that as well as the problems the succession dispute posed, the very fabric of Visigothic society itself was weak. It is suggested that the Visgothic nobility of the time, who had placed themselves above the native Hispano Roman population in terms of rights and privileges, were suffering a backlash from the lower sections of society.
