has become a major growing concern. The main concern is protecting the privacy of medical
patient information. Over the past few years there have been numerous medical information
breaches, either by hackers or employees. Meanwhile, companies are being faced with security
issues that result in expensive fines. On the other hand, there s pro s and con s to health information
and with this is different kinds of software. Overall, health informaticsis changing along with health

Who Is Miss Havishony
In the early stages of this novel, Pip is on the path to become a blacksmith, just like Joe, until he
meets a young lady, named Estella. She is being raised by a very wealthy woman who wants to
make her emotionless so she will break men s hearts in vengeance for being defrauded. But the
opening scene pictures Pip stumbling upon an escaped prisoner in a graveyard. Pip helps the
prisoner, then Pip mentions that he saw another man before he found him, and the prisoner goes on
the hunt for that man. Sometime later Pip and the prisoner meet again in an unpleasant manner, the
prisoner being arrested again, while attempting to beat a man to death. Both men are arrested, Pip s
name is mentioned, and the prisoner reverberates it, almost as to instill it into his memory. Pip is
sent to Satis House, Miss Havishams residence, where he meets Estella. Estella is arrogant, and
she thinks that she is too good for a blacksmith. So Pip decides that he wants to become a
gentleman, so then maybe Estella will want to be with him. Pip falls in love with Estella, but
Miss Havisham does not approve, because Pip says that he wishes to be a blacksmith when she

The Consequences Of Global Warming
The Consequences of Global Warming
What does someone think of when the topic of global warming is presented? They might think of
the earth warming, or the sun burning up, but do they think of the affects this issue has caused our
Mother Earth or think about what they do on a day to day basis as being the prime contributor to
this environmental problem? Do they realize or even worry about the next generation dying
because of the various factors of global warming? Some may think of global warming as a tale or
publicly over rated, but what they do not realize is that global warming has become one of the top
three environmental problems of the century. Some do not agree that humans are to blame, only
nature going through its natural cycle. Although, scientists around the world are now beginning to
have proof of this cause and effect we have placed on our planet which is beginning to answer the
question of global warming being real. According to the United States Environmental Protection
Agency, The earth s average temperature has risen by 1.4* over the past century, and it is projected
to rise by another 2 to 11.5*F over the next hundred years. Small changes in temps of the planet can
translate to large and potentially dangerous shifts in climate and weather ( Climate Change: Basic
Information ). Because of human activities, global warming has been created, which is the key
component to habitat loss, extinction of species, unpredictable weather patterns, and the chance of

The Effects of Poverty on Education Essay
In today s world people need to compete globally for jobs and one of the most important factors in
getting a good paying job is education. However, even the best schools cannot overcome some of
the obstacles placed in front of the students that walk through their doors. Poverty, chaotic home
environments, discrepancies in exposure to technology, and lack of funding for schools all
negatively impact the effort to educate children. In today s economic environment even the
wealthiest states and districts are having to cut funding for education, while districts which were
already teetering on the edge are now in an even worse position. In some schools children have to
face not having enough books, paper for copies, severe overcrowding,... Show more content on

With the current recession and foreclosure crisis, more families are facing homelessness than
ever before. This presents additional struggles for children and the schools who educate them.
Since many of the students have no fixed place to stay, they could bounce from school to school
providing no stability for education, or in some areas these children are transported back to
their original home school sometimes causing kids to be on busses for long commutes. When
children face a lack of stability in the classroom it is easier to fall behind, and teachers might
only begin to see deficiencies in skills after observing work for a while it could lead a student to
fall further behind every day. Even when children have a stable home there are other family life
factors that can affect their progress at school. Child neglect, drugs, alcohol, gangs, violence, and
hunger can all have a significant impact on how children learn both at school and at home. A child s
first educational experience should be at home, however with increasing use of drugs and alcohol,
and sometimes unintentional neglect from not being able to afford quality daycare means that
some children entering the classroom are woefully unprepared. Although poverty affects every
nationality there are races that traditionally are more

The Switzerland Healthcare System
RTT1 Task 3
Juanita Mortensen
Western Governors University
RTT1 Task 3
A1. Country comparison The healthcare systems of Switzerland and the United States are quite
similar in some aspects and vastly different in others. In Switzerland, the healthcare is universal and
available to all. It is provided by private individual insurance companies and subsidized by the
government when needed. Basic health insurance is required to be purchased within 3 months of
residency or after birth and is an individual s choice as to what carrier they choose. Of course,
there are exceptions to this mandate but they are very few.( Healthcare in Switzerland, n.d. , para.
1) Because of this requirement, 99.5% of the population in Switzerland has ... Show more content

Part of the reason is that there are many different healthcare plans that are very different in price
and coverage with each insurance provider. There is not a set price on a basic health plan and the
definition of a basic health plan is different with each provider. In addition, the supplemental plans
are government run Medicare and Medicaid. The consumer is not allowed to buy into the
government plans. They have to meet certain requirements to be eligible for these benefits. The
government does have a set price on procedures and treatments but the hospitals and doctors can
have additional charges incurred not covered by the government set price. The consumer then has
to pay for the additional charges
A2. Healthcare Access The healthcare access for children, unemployed, and the retired is quite
different. In Switzerland, children are required to be insured within 3 months of birth. Their
parents can insure them with a different provider than themselves.( The Swiss Healthcare System,
n.d. , para. 2) In the United States, children are supposed to be insured due to the Affordable Care
Act but once again, it is optional whether the parents will. They can insure the child or pay a fine.
(, 2016, para. 2) If the child is insured it is usually through the parent s insurance. After birth the
parents can add their child onto their insurance policy. This is only done if the parents call the

Matthew And Luke
The genealogy of Jesus in Matthew and Luke are very different which can be confusing to many
people because at first glance, it does not look like any of the names are the same. When I look
at the names, I cannot find any of them that are alike because they are not in the same order and
they do not end on the same person. In Matthew, he lists names of women while Luke does not
list a single women s name. There are, however, several different reasons from people like
scholars on why this could be possible. For example, some scholars think that one book is about
Josephs ancestry and the other about Mary s ancestry. This could be true, but there are many other
arguments for this subject. The first major view that explains this problem is found... Show more

All the solutions were already mentioned somewhere in the two other books. It gives the view
that Matthew gives the royal line and Luke gives the natural line, but it does not give the opposite
view of that. It also says Matthew could have possibly been the line of Joseph and Luke the line of
Mary. All the commentaries of why Matthew and Luke have different genealogies of Jesushave
many differences, but a lot of similarities as well. It seems like these commentaries will give a
solution, but there will be someone else that thinks it is reversed. What I got out of the solution
was that Matthew and Luke were either both Josephs line with many differences in them or one
was Mary s line and the other Joseph s. This is a question that makes me wonder why the author
of the books would not just say what kind of genealogy it was. Did they not think that people
later on would be very confused? The solution I would choose to be the correct solution would
probably have to be that Luke was the royal line and Matthew the natural line. This is because
Luke does not name any names of women and Matthew does. I would not think that if giving the
royal line, they would name any names of women because they could not be the head of anything
back then. That is the only reason I would choose that one, but I know that there are probably so
many other solutions too that could persuade me to think

Motivation In The Book Anthem
Anthem In the book Anthem by Ayn Rand the main character, Equality, is assigned the job as a
street sweeper by the Council of Voacations. The reason that he is placed as a street sweeper is a
more sinister motivation that the council has. The Council of Vocations had a more sinister
motivation when assigning him the job. They know that he is smart. He has the ability to learn
quickly, making the assumption that he was given the job due to incometence false. It was not
that the learning was too hard for us. It was that the learning was too easy (Rand 21). He is
advanced among other students and learns very quickly, but it is wrong in society s eyse to be
smarter than anyone else. You are supposed to have the knowledge of your brothers. This is a
great sin, to be born with a head which is too quick (Rand 21). In order to prevent him from

Metaphors And The Natural World
Whether we know it or not, we make use of metaphors daily in many ways to help us make sense
of the world. A metaphor is defined as a figure of speech that identifies an object or an idea that is
similar to an unrelated thing. The use of metaphors and the language that they portray help to create
new insight into the universe. They not only help classify the natural world, and help interpret the
scientific world, but they also set outlooks on individuals culture and society; however, some
may argue that metaphors are an impractical use of our language that only complicate things that
can instead be stated clearer. Our perspectives and the way we think are directly linked to how
we talk and communicate in in the natural world and how we are viwed by society. This is
explained further in detailed in Metaphors We Live By, because it clearly shows how individuals
shape their perspectives based on their experiences in society: In most of the little things we do
every day, we simply think and act more or less automatically along certain lines, (Lackoff
Johnson 3). This furthers proves how much metaphors can affect the way we think and the way
we see the world from what we undergo and experience in our life it is what gives us an opinion
on certain matters of race, gender, religion, etc. We all think and act according to how we interact
with our society and it is the power of metaphors that help guide and change one s beliefs to help
portray our own perspective for others.

Upanishads Vs Herodotus
The Katha Upanishads from ancient India and the Greek historian Herodotus, both define the
belief of the good life. Although there are similarities between the two perspectives, there are
also various differences between the Upanishads and Herodotus. Firstly, they differ in terms of
origin. The Upanishads are a representation of ancient India and Herodotus originates from
Greece. It is noted, that the Greeks originally settled in Greece due to its abundance of gold and
silver. Whereas, Indians settled in India due to the topography or the terrain of the land. India s
soil was fertile and good for growing many crops. There is already an immediate difference
between the two, just based on why each group decided to settle where they did. Furthermore, this

The Upanishads emphasize that life is full of temptations. More importantly, that these temptations
can be controlled by discovering why they are there to begin with. While the Upanishads use
spirituality to define the good life, Herodotus believes instead that Earthly wealth defines the good
life. Meaning materials wealth, having a faithful wife, being healthy, etc. Additionally, Herodotus
mentions this belief through a series of narratives rather metaphors, that stress the point that a
person s blessings should also be a reflection of an individual s heart. However, both Herodotus
and the Upanishads include in their message the afterlife. They differ in a sense that, the
Upanishads link eternity to the Atman, while Herodotus links the fate of an individual to the
afterlife. Meaning, Herodotus expresses that the true revelation of the good life will not be
unveiled until an individual as passed away. To conclude, the two perspectives of the good life are
different between the Upanishads and Herodotus. Yet they are similar in the sense, of mentioning
that the afterlife is the only way to know if you lived a good

Women have been wearing makeup for years. Throughout the years, I transform myself into

angled eyeliner brush. Transforming my face into a well known celebrity challenges my skills. To
transform my face, I see my characteristics are similar to Angelina Jolie. I identify my face to see if
the transformation is possible. I need defined cheeks because Angelina Jolie s cheek bones is
her most prominent feature. The cheeks must be high and well defined. Defining the cheeks, I
choose a medium brown shade of eyeshadow or bronzer. The forehead is the second most
important feature to create. Angelina Jolie has a long, narrow forehead, as mine is wide.
Having the medium brown shadow on my temples it creates shadows. I create the illusion of a
long forehead. After identifying my features, I am ready to start my transformation. The
alterations for my face will take time to prefect. It will take an hour or longer to do. I might have
to attempt the look a few times until I get it right. When I perfect the look, I am ready to start.
Next, I clean my face to have a clean canvas. Then moisturize my face so the makeup does not

Compare And Contrast The Whiskey Rebellion And Shays...
Sarah Chung 10/03/17
APUSH Section 3
1. Compare and contrast the Whiskey rebellion to Shays rebellion. How would the differing results
inform a historian of the power of the Federal Government in comparison to the Articles of
Confederation and the Constitution? (page 187).
Shays Rebellion began because of the economic depression, insufficient harvests, and high duties,
lead to farmers being seized and thrown in jail if they were unable to pay their taxes. This angered
a large group in Massachusetts and a man named Daniel Shay, a Revolutionary war veteran, to
arrange protests against the government. The Whiskey rebellion was triggered when George
Washington s government placed a tax on distilled alcohol and whiskey. Protesters showed their
discontent by tarring and feathering revenue officers, similar to those during the anti stamp act
days. Although both rebellions were challenging the government, Shay s Rebellion revealed the
weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation as the national government could not tax, enforce laws
or raise money for an army. Already weakened by the Revolutionary War, the Articles of
Confederation could not defend against the rebellion. Unlike the outcome of Shays rebellion,
George Washington lead an army of militia to immediately put down the rebellion which lead to his
government being strengthened and gaining respect. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Operation Mincemeat Essay
Ben Macintyre s Operation Mincemeat: How a Dead Man and a Bizarre Plan Fooled the Nazis
and Assured Allied Victory is an incredibly detailed account of the true story of a deception
operation devised by British Intelligence in World War 2 aimed to thicken the fog of war for the
German war machine. Mincemeat was a cover operation for Husky , which was the allied
invasion of Sicily from North Africa. Mincemeat was a plan devised to plant false documents and
letters to cause the Germans to believe that the imminent attack from North Africa would target
Greece Sardinia and not Sicily. Specifically, it was designed to make the massing of troops near
Sicily look like the feint invasion, and the actual feint invasion in Greece Sardinia seem to be the
true threat. Ewen Montagu and Charles Cholmondeley (the architects behind Operation Mincemeat
) both agreed that omitting the Sicily invasion from the equation entirely, might tip off the Germans
that the invasion force massing near Sicily was the true threat, since the troops amassing in North
Africa would surely be detected by the axis (40). Basil Thomson, a novelist and policeman,
inspired the broad idea that would become Mincemeat . However, it... Show more content on

Electrical Engineering And The Field Of Engineering
Electrical Engineering is a well respected and growing field of engineering that centers on the
practical application of electricity, electromagnetism and electronics. The field is of considerable
necessity to modern life and infrastructure, having applications in many diverse branches of modern
life. Some of these include telecommunications, energy and power distribution, transportation,
manufacturing and consumer electronics. In this report we will go over the education and
coursework requirements, fields of the industry, the work environment, salary, tools of the trade,
and professional organizations of electrical engineers. According to Frederick Terman; Electrical
Engineeringas a discipline first appeared in the United States during the early 1880 s as classes in
physics and energy flows intended to prepare students to enter the new and fast growing electrical
manufacture industry. As the industry grew, EE education followed. Within ten years the discipline
made a place for itself along the more classical engineeringdepartments. An example of the
industry s adaptability to change would be the industry before and after the First World War.
Before WWI, work in the industry was concentrated primarily on the distribution of power,
building electric infrastructure using the properties of AC and DC circuits. Also before WWI,

Globalization Movie Production
The world wide movie business with its incredibly large cultural and economic impact is mainly
driven by its regional growth and exports. The organization of the film industry is undergoing a
significant transformation trough globalization.
While the export rates of US and UK movies were exceptionally high for many decades, new
competition from many areas has grown over the last few years resulting in a growing number of
Asian and European movies that are now exported globally. The transformation towards
globalization also relates to the production of movies and provides the industry with many new
opportunities and new venues in which to produce their films. While Hollywood increasingly

France:
The production sector in France continued its impressive growth in 2005, with a record 240
films produced. This is an increase of 18.2 % over the 203 in 2004. Of the 240 films, 187 were of
French initiative (up from 167 in 2004), of which 61 were co productions. Total investment in film
production rose by 22.6 % to €1.28bn ($1.53bn). There were 53 minority co productions in
2005, up 17 on 2004. This is attributed to new regulations allowing foreign investors to work in
France with local companies.
Germany:
The total number of films produced in Germany hit 146, of which 43 were documentaries,
bringing total feature film production closer to 103, but nonetheless an 18.3 % increase on the 87
features produced in 2004. There were 60 films of German origin which was the same as the
previous year. The major growth came from the number of co productions which rose to 43 from
just 27 the previous year. Of the co productions, 18 were majority led German co productions
leaving 25 features in which Germany had a minority production status.

Anna Of Byzantium Essay
Is power a strength or weakness? Power is defined in the Merriam Webster dictionary as the
ability to do something or act in a particular way. My definition of power is being able to uphold
responsibility. In chapter 24 page 196 it states, you choked with the silence of spiritual discipline,
and with the streams of your tears, you watered the entire desert . This refers to how in the
Byzantine Empireyou are raised to hide your emotions from the world this is a weakness because
you suffer internally, this is also a strength because by hiding your emotions you show no
weakness to other empires. Tracy Barrett writer of Anna of Byzantium has an M.A. and Ph.D. in
Medieval Italian Literature from the University of California, Berkeley. She also holds a Bachelor

medieval worlds led to her become an author of historical books. She received a grant from the
National Endowment for the Humanities to study medieval women writers which led to the writing
of her first novel, the award winning Anna of Byzantium. In Anna of Byzantium they discuss the

Thomas Edison And The Western Society And Mankind
When looking back at the people in history the one name that always seems to stand out is
Thomas Alva Edison. In this essay I will talk about Thomas Edison and his great contributions to
the Western Society and mankind. Thomas Alva Edison was born February 11, 1847 in Milan,
Ohio, son to Samuel Ogden Edison, Jr and Nancy Matthews Elliott (Frost). Edison s mother
taught him the three R s because he only had three months of formal education. Eventually,
Edison began to favor in independent self instruction because of his poor hearing. Edison in his
younger years took to reading books to learn about the arts, the histories, and the sciences
(Beals). At a very young age Edison became an adult (Beals). He had talked his parents into
letting him sell newspapers, snacks, and candy at the railroad; he had also started a separate
business on selling fruits and vegetables. When learning about Edison in his childhood, one can
understand he was not the average kid growing up. He had a different approach to life in which
he craved for knowledge and obtained a hard work ethic in his young years. In his mid teens he
saved the son of the railroad stationmaster from a box cart and the grateful father taught Edison
how to master Morse code and the telegraph. This allowed him to get a job as a telegraph operator
(Beals). This opened the way for Edison s experimenting with technology and how to further
enhance it. After working as a telegraph operator he created his first invention, the

The Thought and Influence of Voltaire Essay
The Thought and Influence of Voltaire
I The legacy of François Marie Arouet, or Voltaire is not only a vast collection of writings, but
also a world that has been radically and directly affected by these works and the activities of their
author. While Voltaire did not create many of the ideas he professed, his success at disseminating
these is unparalleled. He summed up with the most panache of anyone of his day the central issues
of the Enlightenment, and rallied with the greatest fervour to see his beliefs tangibly realised.
This paper will focus on Voltaires stances on vital issues, their weight versus the ideas and practices
against which they are reactions, and their influence on both 18th century Europe and the modern
West. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cosmology Like many of the philosophes, Voltaire was a deist. He believed that, although God
was not one to intervene in earthly affairs, such an entity did exist. The scientific revolution had
demonstrated that the universe operated according to rational mechanics. Therefore, resembling a
machine, it must have an engineer behind it.5[5] While deist theories about space and time are
muddled and confusing for those of us who take modern science for granted (particularly in their
dependence on the concept of God),6[6] their nascent determinism is very familiar in this age
where behaviourism is so popular. Mired in Newtonian causality, Voltaire (echoing John Locke)
believed that action is the effect of which the will is the cause. The cause of the will is the effect of
environment. The environment is part of the clockwork universe made and wound by God.7[7]
While this theory brings environment into the discussion of development of personality, it makes
people into passive receptacles and cogs in machines.8[8]
Voltaire s belief in God was partly pragmatic. He recognised the difficulty of maintaining an ethical
system without rewards and punishments. The Christian tradition had so long used heaven and hell
as motivational factors that it was hard by the 18th century to imagine morality for its own sake.
While just laws would ensure just actions by the general population,

The Man In The Dead Machine Summary
In the poem The Man in the Dead Machine, Donald Hall uses vivid imagery and alternative
scenarios to emphasize the sheer overwhelming specter of death that loomed over those serving in
the greatest conflict known to man. The hook that Hall uses to initially provoke the readers interest
is the mentioning of the Grumman Hellcat, a fighter plane used by Americans in World War II.
Specifying the model of the fighter plane allows the reader to be knowledgeable about the setting
of the poem. The meaning of this poem focuses on the destructivity wartime causes on the life of
those in service. The main focal point Hall emphasizes throughout his poem is the uncertainty of
life and death. However, other important targets of this poem are suicide... Show more content on

Throughout this poem there are multiple ways Hall connects the poem to its core meaning.
Located within the title, the word dead is used to describe the machine. Being dead is the
ultimate end of a life and that uncertainty of death sparks fear among many people. The inclusion
of this certain word is used to set the tone of the poem as dark and gloomy and obtain the readers
interest. Another method used by Hall to convey the theme of death was through imagery. The
entire second stanza is a description of the pilot s skeleton strapped within the crashed plane.
Having such a graphic image portrayed, Hall is able to essentially shock his reader with the
gruesomeness that death produces. One of the last things the reader may decipher from this
poem is that life, just like war, is a trap. Within the third stanza, the pilot is said to be taking a
train to work and is held/ by the firm webbing of the train. The webbing infers that the pilot,
although not trapped in his plane, is trapped in the roles put forth by society. Throughout Halls
poem, many different ideas and topics can be deduced but the uncertainty of life and death stands
out as the main focal point. To emphasize the fragileness of life and death, Hall begins the poem
with a story of death and in the last stanza switches his perspective to the possible life the pilot
could have had if he survived. A topic vaguely brought up in this poem would be

HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT RELATED EMERGENCIES
Introduction
Heat exhaustion is one of several heat related emergencies that can be potentially fatal if not treated
promptly and correctly. Heat related emergencies encompass three phases, which represent
progressive worsening of symptoms and thus potential morbidity of the condition. These three
phases include heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and ultimately heat stroke that without prompt
treatment can result in serious injury or even death. Treatment of heat exhaustion and heat related
emergencies is focused on prompt identification of symptoms and subsequent supportive treatment
to reduce core body temperature and prevent potential complications associated with the condition.
Education regarding identification of early signs of heat related emergencies has helped to reduced
incidences of heat stroke, but current research has also found new ways to treat heat stroke and
prevent complications associated with heat related emergencies. With this advent of new treatments
outlooks for those suffering from heat stroke have improved, however the best treatment is still
early identification and prevention of heat related emergencies.

Jacey Observation
I recently had the opportunity to observe a 33 month old boy named Jacey in our church nursery.
On this particular Sunday we had several families unable to attend worship service due to a
nasty virus that has been going through our community, so Jacey was the only child in the
nursery during my observation. I quickly learned that this little guy is full of energy and
excitement, and also a little bit of attitude, with sticky fingers and rosy cheeks! It was clear to
see that he is an adventure seeker as he explored his surroundings with eyes that appeared to be
thoughtful as his curious little mind absorbed every single inflection of the words spoken by
those who interacted with him and all of this is what I observed within just the first five minutes
of my time spent with Jacey. Over the course of the hour there would be squeals of joy,
rambunctious play, silly faces made, as well as times of crossed arms and feet stomping in
frustration. Life as a two... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He simply observed her at first, as she suggested different ways to build and play with the blocks,
using the method of guided participation (Martorell, et al., 2014) to help Jacey feel comfortable

different designs with the blocks. This type of play, with building patterns and intention, is what
our text book would call constructive play (Martorell, et al., 2014). As Jacey played, his
excitement grew over what he was creating and every now and then he would speak to his
caregiver and show her what he was doing. His sentences followed the rules for syntax speech as
he put together sentences that made sense (Martorell, et al., 2014). Not to be too committed with
his attention, Jacey would randomly get up and run about the room he definitely had too much

Martin Luther Splintering Of Religion
Divine grace was a particularly prominent concern in sixteenth century Europe, it prompted the
splintering of Christendom and was therefore responsible in large part for the subsequent violence.
With the extensive conflict motivated by debates over the delivery of divine grace, it comes as no
surprise that leading figures of the era harbored vastly differing opinions on the subject. Martin
Luther, John Fisher, and Hans Staden, drawing from the exact same source material, came to
drastically different conclusions regarding the bestowment, acceptance, and discovery of divine
grace. Martin Luther s personal interpretation of divine grace differed so greatly from that of other
christians that it facilitated the splintering of a religion. Luther s influential interpretation was
formed on the basis of two claims made by St. Paul in his Letter to the Romans. First, a justified
Christian lives by faith alone, and second Christ is the end and the fulfillment of all commandments
for those who believe in Him, (Luther 22). Luther interpreted St. Paul s words to mean that divine
grace is bestowed through faith, that Faith... will abundantly justify those who have it, such that
they require nothing more to be righteous and pious, (Luther 22). The idea of being saved through
nothing but faith resonated with Luther, a man obsessed with his own repentance, to the point that
he visited confession several times daily (Smith). The inherent nature of faith, as Luther viewed it,

Rather than have the waterfall in occupant s view, the designer of the house, Wright, placed the
house right on the top of the waterfall to make it a part of occupant s lives. The integration of the
house with waterfall is successful in creating harmony between nature and man. Fallingwater

hunting abilities, making them easy to train.

Size, Coat and Grooming
When it comes to taking care of your canine, you cannot undermine their furriness. Golden
Retrievers have a dense, water repellent outer coat with a thicker under coat. Their coats come in
all shades of golden, ranging from light to dark. While some golden retrievers have are wavy coats,
some have incredibly straight coats.
Grooming
These puppies shed moderately during the winter but quite heavily during the fall and spring. If
you wish to adopt a Golden Retriever, you will just have to get accustomed to a certain amount
of dog hair around your house and on your clothes. Rest assured, these furry pals are worth the
trouble with their friendly and calm demeanor. Because of their thick coats, this breed requires
considerable grooming. Brush your pet s fur every day to prevent tangling. If you are unable to
brush them regularly, find a way to do it at least once a week.
Bathing
As far as bathing its concerned, wash your pet at least once a month or more often to help them
look shiny and clean.

Mist of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley
Mist of Avalon breaks through many stereotypes but also strengthens some in some ways. One
stereotype that was torn down was that women are not as strong as men. This is proved to be
wrong when they have Morgaine fighting men and actually being victorious. This movie also
breaks the stereotype that women can t be in power. Most women in this movie hold very high
positions. For example, Viviane is the high goddess of Avalon. Also Morgaine is her second in
command. Although this movie breaks some stereotypes it also reinforces them by putting the
blame on a women for not being able to give the king an heir. Although in this case it really is her
fault nobody knows this information and automatically blames her. These are just a few of the
reasons that Mist of Avalon strengthens and breaks through common stereotypes.
In Mist of Avalon Gwenhwyfar is a sympathetic character because she has so much going against
her. Although she does have her own wrong doings they are acted on out of hurt. For example,
she is cursed with not being able to give the king an heir and this causes turmoil in their
marriage. Also in the end she gets even more bad things thrown her way and then repents for her
sins and ends things with Lancelot. The film doesn t treat physical beauty in a positive or
negative way. It is very neutral about outer beauty compared to inner. This can be proved because
Morgos was pretty but she was an evil person and both Viviane and Morgaine weren t the most

Censorship Is A Way Of Regulating Information
Censorship
Censorship is a way of regulating and examining various forms of media available to the general
public. It occurs in different contexts, including books, films, art plays, radios, television programs,
news, internet and communications. Censorship can be achieved by prior restraint, which consists
of licensing system where a work has to be submitted before publication or court injunction
prohibiting dissemination of information (Cohen 11). This type of censorship prevents certain
materials from being published. On the other hand, censorship can also be achieved by
suppressing ideas found to be objectionable or offensive (Cohen 11). This indicates that censorship
can be practiced in different forms and it can occur either before or after a work s publication.
According to Mark Cohen Censorship in Canadian literature , a censor is one who exercises
official supervision over morals and conduct (3). There is always a driving factor behind censorship.
One might argue that censors want to control the minds of young, because students who read might
learn to think and question them. This might be taken as a tool of government control over its
citizens. Throughout history censorship has become an enemy of freedom and democracy (Cohen
5). However according to article 19 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights;
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression (United Nations). The First

Women s Roles in God s Bits of Wood Essay
1) God s Bits of Wood is an historical novelВ—one based on actual events. From the novel, to what
extent and how did women drive events and what were the differences between their goals and
those of men? Why the differences?
The novel God s Bits of Wood by Sembene Ousmane is an account of the strike Senegalese
trainworkers underwent in pursuit of equal benefits and compensation from their French employers.
In an effort to coerce the workers into returning to their jobs, the French cut off the water and food
supply to the three villages wherein these events transpire: Thies, Dakar, and Bamako. Ousmane s
novel explores the way in which these hardships evolve the worker s and their families till the
strike is ultimately resolved. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hunger visible in their children eyes did not cause them to despair and lose their resolve,
rather it helped to develop unity amongst them as they faced this hardship together. For instance,
when Ramatoulaye killed the ram Vendredi, the meat from its bones was distributed to all those in
need. So when the French soldiers came to collect her for breaking a law, they did not face one
lone woman but an army of women prepared to fight. Consequently, the soldiers were driven away.
This first victory showed the women the strength they had as long as they worked as a united front.
Women drove events in the novel because with the exception of the first fight between the
workmen and the soldiers, primarily all physical revolts by the Senegalese were the work of the
women. There were three reasons for this. First, whereas a man physically revolting would simply
be killed, it was highly distasteful to the French to kill a woman or child. Second, this was the most
effective manner for the women to aid the strike, since they were largely ignored and could not
participate in the union meetings. Third, the women tired of scavenging food without success and
watching each other waste away. Working actively to benefit the strike gave meaning to their lives.
Also the French, who viewed the African women as ignorant whores whose primary worth was for
sexual pleasure, also consistently acted to provoke them. Arresting Ramatoulaye, assaulting Ad

Liverpool s Steven Gerrard versus AS Roma s Francesco Totti
Drawing comparisons between the career trajectories of Liverpool s talismanic captain Steven
Gerrard and AS Roma s patriarch Francesco Totti is an inevitable prospect. Both were passionate
childhood fans of their native football clubs. Both were recruited into their club academies at a very
tender age. Both have risen through the ranks and established themselves as the heart and soul of
their club. And both have consistently led from the front and guided their clubs to football glory.
However, the strongest bond that exists between the two is their relentless, unmitigated devotion to
their beloved club. The common thread that binds Totti and Gerrard together is their unique ability
to stand by their clubs through thick and thin.
But the past few years have been particularly painful for the aficionados of Roma and Liverpool.
Totti and Gerrard have seen their club slip down their respective domestic league tables in recent
years owing to the dominance of their cross country rivals. Both Roma and Liverpool have failed
to qualify for the UEFA Champions Leaguesince the 2010 2011 and 2009 2010 seasons
respectively. Their continued absence from Europe s premier football cup competition has severely
tarnished their image and dented their aspirations of attracting the big name players to their clubs
which their domestic rivals have been successfully able to do so.

The Writer in the Family
Pain Shown Through Symbolism
How does one show his or her pain? Jonathan s agony from the death of his father is
shown throughout The Writer in the Family by utilizing symbolism. To Jonathan, it s as if his
father did not die a complete death and that haunts him. This pain is shown in a unique way
throughout the story. Jonathan, as he tells this first person narrative, does not come right out and
put words to his feelings concerning his father. At the start of the story Jonathan plainly states
that his father died in 1955 and he explains the situation of how Jonathan s aunts on his dad s

Jonathan then tells his mother that the suit is too big, since the sense of his father in
the jacket scares him. As with the symbol of a missing headstone, this image of Jonathan feeling
a little part of his father in the suit because of the lingering scent of his father, again shows how
Jonathan has not really come to accept his father s death. This symbol suggests a presence of
his father from which he has not freed himself ( Writer ). He has not been able to do so since
he is forced to keep the image of his father alive by writing letters pretending to be his father. In
the story, Jonathan does not come right out and explain his inner conflict due to the passing of
father, but instead he describes himself being uncomfortable while trying on his father s suits, to
address his conflict. Also, Jonathan s inner conflict stems deeper into the person that he will
become. Jonathan s discomfort and his sense of being less than his father are represented by his
uneasy feeling when he tries on his father s too large suit jacket (Heims 275). A suit jacket too
large for Jonathan symbolizes that Jonathan does not feel that he is living up to his father, and it
suggest his fear of being less than his father was. Being less than the man his father was, when
he was still living, scares Jonathan, readdressing the character s pain. In all, it is evident of

Importance Of Self Reflection
Research has been increasingly done on learning and self reflect and its effectiveness, one of the
first researchers john Dewey stated, we do not learn from experience... We learn from reflecting
on experience. John believed that deep learning comes from array of experience, reflection,

activity or process in which an experience is recalled, considered and evaluated to gain insight on
oneself, ones valued or knowledge gained. The ability to reflect on experience encourages insight

Secondary Batteries
Batteries are essential for the wireless heart monitors to operate. A battery is composed of
electrochemical cells that convert stored chemical energy to electrical energy and consists of a
cathode (the positive terminal) and an anode (the negative terminal). The battery needs to
connect to the external circuits of the wireless heart monitor, and electrolytes move and cause
the electrolytes to act as ions and preform work. There are two ways in which batteries can
behave: a primary and a secondary battery. Primary batteries are disposable after one use and
secondary batteries can be reused after being charges. In primary batteries once the electrodes
have changed during battery use, they cannot b0e changed back. Secondary batteries can be
recharged, and the initial make up of the electrodes can be changed by a reverse current. Primary
batteries are mainly used in devices that require low amounts of energy and are not left on
perpetually. Secondary batteries are best suited to devices that are constantly used such as hearing
aids and car batteries[1].... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alkaline batteries are usually used for flashlights and headphones. Lead acid are usually used
for cars and some of the older generations of this battery contains liquid electrolyte in an open
container. It must be kept upright of make sure that the dispersion of hydrogen gas is safe if
undergoing overcharging. The lead acid battery is incredibly heavy on comparison to the amount
of energy that is given off. Closed valve regulated lead acid battery, is also commonly used in
modern cars. Two types of these closed batteries can be found: Gel batteries and Absorbed Glass

California Road Trip
After a prolonged amount of reasoning, we ve come to reach an agreement to convey a road trip
from New Jersey to California. We chose these two states because of the amount of distance
between the two and because of the long adventures that could come along. Even though we know
our destination we could not just get up and drive without formulating any type of preparation
beforehand. Personally, the best way to fully succeed a non stressful tripis to formulate everything
you would need to know beforehand. With that being said, Byron and I had to research all the
possible information we need on this trip. Join us on the journey as we construct and strive to
California.

The United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates, more commonly referred to as the UAE, gained independence from
England in 1971. The late President, Sheikh Zayid bin Sultan al Nahyan, ruled the UAE from the
start of its sovereignty all the way until his death in 2004 (Rugh, 1997, p. 18). Zayid implemented
a federal monarchy across the state. Unlike many other monarchies, the UAE has sustained great
rule while maintaing peace with its people. Many factors influence this trend and without them the
regime of the UAE would most likely fail. The UAE has flourished for nearly 40 years with a
ruling governmental regime where the majority of power is put into the hands of only a select few
by disallowing political parties and restricting political participation (Rugh,... Show more content on

The federal government oversees major state issues such as immigration, foreign policy, public
health, wealth, transportation, and communications (Heard Bey, 2005, p. 361). But the individual
emirates still have great amounts of power over the residents. The emirates each regulate the
economy specific to its land and the money is given back to the citizens (Rugh, 1997, p.17).
Although the federal government holds the most power, the emirates are still allowed to function
with a degree of independence. The familial and traditional roles held by the leaders of the UAE
establish a long lasting legitimacy throughout the state. The current President and ruler of Abu
Dubai is Khalifa bin Zayid Al Nuhayyan, son of the prior ruler. The Prime Minister, Vice
President, and Sheikh of Dubai is Muhammad Bin Rashid Al Maktum (CIA, 2014). Khalifa bin
Zayid was never formally elected to office, rather he was unanimously appointed to the seat on
the same day of his father s funeral. Because of the legacy and respect Sheikh Zayid created, his
son entered office with the entire UAE s support. The UAE functions tremendously through this
charismatic and traditional legitimacy; Sheikh Zayid was looked up to as a god for his 43 year
reign of power. In many states this long standing rule from one family would not be tolerated by
the public, yet it works so well in the UAE because Sheikh Zayid created and guided the state to
such high success immediately after gaining

The Transportation Industry Does Not Have A Great Impact...
Transportation is an important sector that drives economic activities within and outside the state.
Although transportation as a sector does not bring in significant revenues to the economy of
Arizona, it does assist the smooth operation of other industries such as manufacturing, tourism,
agriculture and mining. Without roads, rail, and airports, it would be difficult to move goods and
services from one part of Arizona to another. Arizona s transportation industry does not have a great
impact on its economy because the state is largely used as a transit hub. More than half of the
freight that comes into Arizona originated from outside, rests for some few days and moved to their
destinations in other states. This means that the Arizona state government can only gain relatively
small revenues from the freight may be in the form of storage charges, repackaging, and
accommodation for truck drivers. The remaining 50% of freight is intra state implying that no
money is brought in from outside Arizona. Transportation sector acts as a vital factor in attracting
investors because modern businesses critically examine the transportinfrastructure before deciding
whether to relocate or not. For instance, manufacturing companies depend on well established road
and rail network to move large volumes of bulk freight. Some also rely on the trucking to move
containerized freight on highways with low congestion levels.

Assume, for the calculations below, that plant overhead is a committed (fixed) cost during the year,
but that direct labor is a variable cost.
Calculate the plant wide overhead rate. Use this rate to assign overhead costs to products and
calculate the profitability of the four products. The assignment spreadsheet provides a starting point
for your calculations, with some data and formulas already supplied.

Hobbit Movie Comparison
Film Review: The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies
When The Hobbit began entitled as The Unexpected Journey in late 2012, its trip to become a
movement picture version, only two films were considered: 2012 s The Hobbit: An Unexpected
Journey and The Hobbit: There And Back Again. With the remarkable success of both movies,
Peter Jackson decided to come up with the trilogy last year s The Hobbit: The Desolation Of
Smaug, as well as altered the title of the ending film to The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five
Armies. There have been some complaints from fans about that conclusion, but regardless, it s
safe to say The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies brings a lot of enjoy and fun for its viewer.
Where The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug ends, we actually see said sadness take place but
it rapidly grants a way to the last film s main description thrust. With the empire of Man and
Elves trying to resolve the promises that Thorin Oakenshield, made in the previous parts, the
recently crowned dwarf king select to let the empire fend for themselves. He has his gold, and as

Suicide By Emile Durkheim
In a classic sociological study, Durkheim (1966) identifies four types of suicide: altruistic and
fatalistic suicides which he associates with pre modern, traditional community and anomic and
egoistic suicides characteristic of modern society. (Kuhling, 2004) The ideas of sociologist,
Emile Durkheim have undoubtedly helped my understanding of suicide of contemporary society.
Durkheim has aided me in understanding the complexity of this topical issue and made me more
aware of the roots of suicide. Altruistic suicide is committed for the benefit of others. This is
whereby a certain individual feels obliged to commit suicide for the good of a group. An example
is someone who commits suicide for the good of a religious or political... Show more content on

(Crossman, 2017) Anomie refers to alienation caused by erosion of standards and values which
includes people in transitions such as adolescents. Durkheim s theory based on anomie has
greatly enhanced my understanding of suicide among adolescents today. Many teenagers today
suffer pain and according to him/her they have no reason to endure life s sufferings patiently
(Durkheim, 1951) and therefore revert to suicide as the easiest way out. Adolescence may be an
unsettling time and may be a major challenge for many in contemporary society. Therefore,
suicide amongst adolescents has risen dramatically in recent years for many a reason;
depression, peer pressure, stress, etc. These struggles can be academically, socially or family
orientated. We, adolescents fear rejection and annihilation and are not always able to deal with
these fears in an effective nor an efficient manner. Therefore, suicide is often a common answer
for many. Recent surveys indicate that as many as 1 out of 5 teenagers suffer clinical depression
and according to suicide.org depression is the third leading cause of death among 15 24 year olds
today. In conclusion, sociologist Durkheim, has greatly helped my understanding of suicide of
contemporary society. Suicide is very much a complex and difficult issue to understand, however
from the study of Durkheim s theory, it can be concluded that we are to

Persuasive Conflict Essay
Maya Angelou once said, I ve learned that you shouldn t go through life with a catcher s mitt on
both hands; you need to be able to throw something back. Like Maya Angelou, we must fight
back against conflict with a war of words. When we are faced with adversity, we need to respond
forcefully with nonviolent approaches and be confident when answering the call. Rather than be
physically aggressive towards the opposing group, people need to remain united through their
purpose to truly accomplish and solve the problem. The best way for people to respond to conflictis
to react peacefully. Many characters try to solve conflicts by using violence. This form of
retaliation does not solve the problem, but makes it worse and causes the people... Show more

While responding to conflicts, we need to remain hopeful that we will be victorious. According
to a graph by the Washington Post, nonviolent campaigns had a 50% greater chance of
succeeding when compared to violent protests. Likewise, when resolving conflict, there is a
greater rate of success when using a peaceful method, rather than violence. When we are faced
with an issue, we need to take a peaceful route when trying to solve it, because it is more likely
that you would be victorious when being peaceful, instead of violent. Throughout history, it has
been proven many times of war and conflict, that when violent actions are taken towards the
opposing groups, the loss of life and emotional trauma lasts longer than the small victories.
Thirteen.org states conflict is inevitable among people, aggression or violence need not be.
While people have learned to respond to conflict with aggression, they can just as well be taught
to respond to constructive methods of problem solving and negotiation. This is relevant because
even though we know that we can t avoid conflict when we do face a problem, we need to be
peaceful and fight with words. We need to learn to respond to conflict peacefully.
Throughout history, a repeating theme seems to be that when using heartless and violent methods,
we solve our issues. This is not true. Violence causes many losses and grief towards the terrible
situations, resulting in our nation being torn apart because

Johnny Cash Meaning
An Ending to Johnny Cash s Life and Career Johnny Cash, The Man in Black was a legendary
singer and songwriter of country, rock, blues, folk, and gospel. He was a deeply religious man,
who loved Jesus and the Bible (Tomlinson). His musical career stretched roughly from 1954 to
his death in 2003. Throughout his life he faced many of his inner demons and hardships with his
music, and the word of god. One of his final songs recorded in 2002 The Man Comes Around is
perhaps his greatest song and speaks about his beliefs and what he thinks the near future holds. This
song encompasses the Book of Revelations, the coming of judgment day, some of his personal
influences and experiences, and his struggle to follow the path of the righteous man.... Show more

In the dream Johnny visits Queen Elizabeth (who he had never met) and she is laughing while
sitting on the floor. She says Johnny, you re like a thorn tree in a whirlwind. Johnny fought hard
to understand the meaning of this dream and almost did not find anything. He claimed that he
found the meaning in the Book of Job, but no one has been able to find it. Biblically, whirlwinds
are said to be a large and destructive force that conquer the wicked. Thorns are usually associated
with evil and wickedness. (Williams) This dream may indicate that Johnny felt as though he
hadn t lived his life in a good manner. Throughout his life, Johnny had always felt responsible for
his brother s death. The tragic accident fueled him to create the somewhat dark and mysterious
music that almost everyone can relate to. Although Johnny had always been a believer, it wasn t
always easy for him to Walk the Line (Cash). The death of his brother, his battle with addiction,
and a difficult marriage were of his most significant problems in life. It s hard for thee to kick
against the pricks could relate to his personal struggle to follow the word of God and be a good
man. (The Meaning of The Man Comes

They might think of the earth warming, or the sun burning up, but do they think of the affects this issue has caused our Mother Earth or think about what they do on a day to day basis as being the prime contributor to this environmental problem? Do they realize or even worry about the next generation dying because of the various factors of global warming? Some may think of global warming as a tale or publicly over rated, but what they do not realize is that global warming has become one of the top three environmental problems of the century. Some do not agree that humans are to blame, only nature going through its natural cycle. Although, scientists around the world are now beginning to have proof of this cause and effect we have placed on our planet which is beginning to answer the question of global warming being real. However, even the best schools cannot overcome some of the obstacles placed in front of the students that walk through their doors. Poverty, chaotic home environments, discrepancies in exposure to technology, and lack of funding for schools all negatively impact the effort to educate children. With the current recession and foreclosure crisis, more families are facing homelessness than ever before. This presents additional struggles for children and the schools who educate them. Since many of the students have no fixed place to stay, they could bounce from school to school providing no stability for education, or in some areas these children are transported back to their original home school sometimes causing kids to be on busses for long commutes. When children face a lack of stability in the classroom it is easier to fall behind, and teachers might only begin to see deficiencies in skills after observing work for a while it could lead a student to fall further behind every day. Even when children have a stable home there are other family life factors that can affect their progress at school. Child neglect, drugs, alcohol, gangs, violence, and hunger can all have a significant impact on how children learn both at school and at home. A child s first educational experience should be at home, however with increasing use of drugs and alcohol, and sometimes unintentional neglect from not being able to afford quality daycare means that some children entering the classroom are woefully unprepared. Matthew And Luke The genealogy of Jesus in Matthew and Luke are very different which can be confusing to many people because at first glance, it does not look like any of the names are the same. When I look at the names, I cannot find any of them that are alike because they are not in the same order and they do not end on the same person. In Matthew, he lists names of women while Luke does not list a single women s name. There are, however, several different reasons from people like scholars on why this could be possible. All the commentaries of why Matthew and Luke have different genealogies of Jesushave many differences, but a lot of similarities as well. It seems like these commentaries will give a solution, but there will be someone else that thinks it is reversed. What I got out of the solution was that Matthew and Luke were either both Josephs line with many differences in them or one was Mary s line and the other Joseph s. This is a question that makes me wonder why the author of the books would not just say what kind of genealogy it was. Did they not think that people later on would be very confused? The solution I would choose to be the correct solution would probably have to be that Luke was the royal line and Matthew the natural line. This is because Luke does not name any names of women and Matthew does. I would not think that if giving the royal line, they would name any names of women because they could not be the head of anything back then. That is the only reason I would choose that one, but I know that there are probably so many other solutions too that could persuade me to think ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Metaphors And The Natural World Whether we know it or not, we make use of metaphors daily in many ways to help us make sense of the world. A metaphor is defined as a figure of speech that identifies an object or an idea that is similar to an unrelated thing. The use of metaphors and the language that they portray help to create new insight into the universe. They not only help classify the natural world, and help interpret the scientific world, but they also set outlooks on individuals culture and society; however, some may argue that metaphors are an impractical use of our language that only complicate things that can instead be stated clearer. Our perspectives and the way we think are directly linked to how we talk and communicate in in the natural world and how we are viwed by society. This is explained further in detailed in Metaphors We Live By, because it clearly shows how individuals shape their perspectives based on their experiences in society: In most of the little things we do every day, we simply think and act more or less automatically along certain lines, (Lackoff Johnson 3). This furthers proves how much metaphors can affect the way we think and the way we see the world from what we undergo and experience in our life it is what gives us an opinion on certain matters of race, gender, religion, etc. We all think and act according to how we interact with our society and it is the power of metaphors that help guide and change one s beliefs to help portray our own perspective for others. ... • 15. Compare And Contrast The Whiskey Rebellion And Shays... Sarah Chung 10/03/17 APUSH Section 3 1. Compare and contrast the Whiskey rebellion to Shays rebellion. How would the differing results inform a historian of the power of the Federal Government in comparison to the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution? (page 187). Shays Rebellion began because of the economic depression, insufficient harvests, and high duties, lead to farmers being seized and thrown in jail if they were unable to pay their taxes. This angered a large group in Massachusetts and a man named Daniel Shay, a Revolutionary war veteran, to arrange protests against the government. The Whiskey rebellion was triggered when George Washington s government placed a tax on distilled alcohol and whiskey. Protesters showed their discontent by tarring and feathering revenue officers, similar to those during the anti stamp act days. Although both rebellions were challenging the government, Shay s Rebellion revealed the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation as the national government could not tax, enforce laws or raise money for an army. Already weakened by the Revolutionary War, the Articles of Confederation could not defend against the rebellion. Operation Mincemeat Essay Ben Macintyre s Operation Mincemeat: How a Dead Man and a Bizarre Plan Fooled the Nazis and Assured Allied Victory is an incredibly detailed account of the true story of a deception operation devised by British Intelligence in World War 2 aimed to thicken the fog of war for the German war machine. Mincemeat was a cover operation for Husky , which was the allied invasion of Sicily from North Africa. Mincemeat was a plan devised to plant false documents and letters to cause the Germans to believe that the imminent attack from North Africa would target Greece Sardinia and not Sicily. Specifically, it was designed to make the massing of troops near Sicily look like the feint invasion, and the actual feint invasion in Greece Sardinia seem to be the true threat. Ewen Montagu and Charles Cholmondeley (the architects behind Operation Mincemeat ) both agreed that omitting the Sicily invasion from the equation entirely, might tip off the Germans that the invasion force massing near Sicily was the true threat, since the troops amassing in North Africa would surely be detected by the axis (40). • 24. Thomas Edison And The Western Society And Mankind When looking back at the people in history the one name that always seems to stand out is Thomas Alva Edison. In this essay I will talk about Thomas Edison and his great contributions to the Western Society and mankind. Thomas Alva Edison was born February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio, son to Samuel Ogden Edison, Jr and Nancy Matthews Elliott (Frost). Edison s mother taught him the three R s because he only had three months of formal education. Eventually, Edison began to favor in independent self instruction because of his poor hearing. Edison in his younger years took to reading books to learn about the arts, the histories, and the sciences (Beals). At a very young age Edison became an adult (Beals). He had talked his parents into letting him sell newspapers, snacks, and candy at the railroad; he had also started a separate business on selling fruits and vegetables. When learning about Edison in his childhood, one can understand he was not the average kid growing up. He had a different approach to life in which he craved for knowledge and obtained a hard work ethic in his young years. In his mid teens he saved the son of the railroad stationmaster from a box cart and the grateful father taught Edison how to master Morse code and the telegraph. This allowed him to get a job as a telegraph operator (Beals). This opened the way for Edison s experimenting with technology and how to further enhance it. The Thought and Influence of Voltaire Essay The Thought and Influence of Voltaire I The legacy of FranГ§ois Marie Arouet, or Voltaire is not only a vast collection of writings, but also a world that has been radically and directly affected by these works and the activities of their author. While Voltaire did not create many of the ideas he professed, his success at disseminating these is unparalleled. He summed up with the most panache of anyone of his day the central issues of the Enlightenment, and rallied with the greatest fervour to see his beliefs tangibly realised. This paper will focus on Voltaires stances on vital issues, their weight versus the ideas and practices against which they are reactions, and their influence on both 18th century Europe and the modern West. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cosmology Like many of the philosophes, Voltaire was a deist. He believed that, although God was not one to intervene in earthly affairs, such an entity did exist. The scientific revolution had demonstrated that the universe operated according to rational mechanics. Therefore, resembling a machine, it must have an engineer behind it.5[5] While deist theories about space and time are muddled and confusing for those of us who take modern science for granted (particularly in their dependence on the concept of God),6[6] their nascent determinism is very familiar in this age where behaviourism is so popular. Mired in Newtonian causality, Voltaire (echoing John Locke) believed that action is the effect of which the will is the cause. The cause of the will is the effect of environment. The environment is part of the clockwork universe made and wound by God.7[7] While this theory brings environment into the discussion of development of personality, it makes people into passive receptacles and cogs in machines.8[8] Voltaire s belief in God was partly pragmatic. He recognised the difficulty of maintaining an ethical system without rewards and punishments. The Christian tradition had so long used heaven and hell as motivational factors that it was hard by the 18th century to imagine morality for its own sake. While just laws would ensure just actions by the general population, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. The Man In The Dead Machine Summary In the poem The Man in the Dead Machine, Donald Hall uses vivid imagery and alternative scenarios to emphasize the sheer overwhelming specter of death that loomed over those serving in the greatest conflict known to man. The hook that Hall uses to initially provoke the readers interest is the mentioning of the Grumman Hellcat, a fighter plane used by Americans in World War II. Specifying the model of the fighter plane allows the reader to be knowledgeable about the setting of the poem. The meaning of this poem focuses on the destructivity wartime causes on the life of those in service. The main focal point Hall emphasizes throughout his poem is the uncertainty of life and death. However, other important targets of this poem are suicide... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout this poem there are multiple ways Hall connects the poem to its core meaning. Located within the title, the word dead is used to describe the machine. Being dead is the ultimate end of a life and that uncertainty of death sparks fear among many people. The inclusion of this certain word is used to set the tone of the poem as dark and gloomy and obtain the readers interest. Another method used by Hall to convey the theme of death was through imagery. The entire second stanza is a description of the pilot s skeleton strapped within the crashed plane. Having such a graphic image portrayed, Hall is able to essentially shock his reader with the gruesomeness that death produces. One of the last things the reader may decipher from this poem is that life, just like war, is a trap. Within the third stanza, the pilot is said to be taking a train to work and is held/ by the firm webbing of the train. The webbing infers that the pilot, although not trapped in his plane, is trapped in the roles put forth by society. Throughout Halls poem, many different ideas and topics can be deduced but the uncertainty of life and death stands out as the main focal point. To emphasize the fragileness of life and death, Hall begins the poem with a story of death and in the last stanza switches his perspective to the possible life the pilot could have had if he survived. HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT RELATED EMERGENCIES Introduction Heat exhaustion is one of several heat related emergencies that can be potentially fatal if not treated promptly and correctly. Heat related emergencies encompass three phases, which represent progressive worsening of symptoms and thus potential morbidity of the condition. These three phases include heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and ultimately heat stroke that without prompt treatment can result in serious injury or even death. Treatment of heat exhaustion and heat related emergencies is focused on prompt identification of symptoms and subsequent supportive treatment to reduce core body temperature and prevent potential complications associated with the condition. Education regarding identification of early signs of heat related emergencies has helped to reduced incidences of heat stroke, but current research has also found new ways to treat heat stroke and prevent complications associated with heat related emergencies. With this advent of new treatments outlooks for those suffering from heat stroke have improved, however the best treatment is still early identification and prevention of heat related emergencies. On this particular Sunday we had several families unable to attend worship service due to a nasty virus that has been going through our community, so Jacey was the only child in the nursery during my observation. I quickly learned that this little guy is full of energy and excitement, and also a little bit of attitude, with sticky fingers and rosy cheeks! It was clear to see that he is an adventure seeker as he explored his surroundings with eyes that appeared to be thoughtful as his curious little mind absorbed every single inflection of the words spoken by those who interacted with him and all of this is what I observed within just the first five minutes of my time spent with Jacey. Martin Luther Splintering Of Religion Divine grace was a particularly prominent concern in sixteenth century Europe, it prompted the splintering of Christendom and was therefore responsible in large part for the subsequent violence. With the extensive conflict motivated by debates over the delivery of divine grace, it comes as no surprise that leading figures of the era harbored vastly differing opinions on the subject. Martin Luther, John Fisher, and Hans Staden, drawing from the exact same source material, came to drastically different conclusions regarding the bestowment, acceptance, and discovery of divine grace. Martin Luther s personal interpretation of divine grace differed so greatly from that of other christians that it facilitated the splintering of a religion. Luther s influential interpretation was formed on the basis of two claims made by St. Paul in his Letter to the Romans. First, a justified Christian lives by faith alone, and second Christ is the end and the fulfillment of all commandments for those who believe in Him, (Luther 22). Luther interpreted St. Paul s words to mean that divine grace is bestowed through faith, that Faith... will abundantly justify those who have it, such that they require nothing more to be righteous and pious, (Luther 22). The idea of being saved through nothing but faith resonated with Luther, a man obsessed with his own repentance, to the point that he visited confession several times daily (Smith). One stereotype that was torn down was that women are not as strong as men. This is proved to be wrong when they have Morgaine fighting men and actually being victorious. This movie also breaks the stereotype that women can t be in power. Most women in this movie hold very high positions. For example, Viviane is the high goddess of Avalon. Also Morgaine is her second in command. Although this movie breaks some stereotypes it also reinforces them by putting the blame on a women for not being able to give the king an heir. Although in this case it really is her fault nobody knows this information and automatically blames her. These are just a few of the reasons that Mist of Avalon strengthens and breaks through common stereotypes. In Mist of Avalon Gwenhwyfar is a sympathetic character because she has so much going against her. Although she does have her own wrong doings they are acted on out of hurt. For example, she is cursed with not being able to give the king an heir and this causes turmoil in their marriage. Also in the end she gets even more bad things thrown her way and then repents for her sins and ends things with Lancelot. The film doesn t treat physical beauty in a positive or negative way. It occurs in different contexts, including books, films, art plays, radios, television programs, news, internet and communications. Censorship can be achieved by prior restraint, which consists of licensing system where a work has to be submitted before publication or court injunction prohibiting dissemination of information (Cohen 11). This type of censorship prevents certain materials from being published. On the other hand, censorship can also be achieved by suppressing ideas found to be objectionable or offensive (Cohen 11). This indicates that censorship can be practiced in different forms and it can occur either before or after a work s publication. According to Mark Cohen Censorship in Canadian literature , a censor is one who exercises official supervision over morals and conduct (3). There is always a driving factor behind censorship. One might argue that censors want to control the minds of young, because students who read might learn to think and question them. This might be taken as a tool of government control over its citizens. Throughout history censorship has become an enemy of freedom and democracy (Cohen 5). So when the French soldiers came to collect her for breaking a law, they did not face one lone woman but an army of women prepared to fight. Consequently, the soldiers were driven away. This first victory showed the women the strength they had as long as they worked as a united front. Women drove events in the novel because with the exception of the first fight between the workmen and the soldiers, primarily all physical revolts by the Senegalese were the work of the women. There were three reasons for this. First, whereas a man physically revolting would simply be killed, it was highly distasteful to the French to kill a woman or child. Second, this was the most effective manner for the women to aid the strike, since they were largely ignored and could not participate in the union meetings. Third, the women tired of scavenging food without success and watching each other waste away. Working actively to benefit the strike gave meaning to their lives. The Prime Minister, Vice President, and Sheikh of Dubai is Muhammad Bin Rashid Al Maktum (CIA, 2014). Khalifa bin Zayid was never formally elected to office, rather he was unanimously appointed to the seat on the same day of his father s funeral. Because of the legacy and respect Sheikh Zayid created, his son entered office with the entire UAE s support. The UAE functions tremendously through this charismatic and traditional legitimacy; Sheikh Zayid was looked up to as a god for his 43 year reign of power. In many states this long standing rule from one family would not be tolerated by the public, yet it works so well in the UAE because Sheikh Zayid created and guided the state to such high success immediately after gaining ... Although transportation as a sector does not bring in significant revenues to the economy of Arizona, it does assist the smooth operation of other industries such as manufacturing, tourism, agriculture and mining. Without roads, rail, and airports, it would be difficult to move goods and services from one part of Arizona to another. Transportation sector acts as a vital factor in attracting investors because modern businesses critically examine the transportinfrastructure before deciding whether to relocate or not. For instance, manufacturing companies depend on well established road and rail network to move large volumes of bulk freight. Some also rely on the trucking to move containerized freight on highways with low congestion levels. Question 2 Arizona depends on the international trade for economic ...
