Edward s Life Had Been Perfect
Edward slowly stalked out of the dark, dusty cell. A guard lay motionless next to the open door,
his throat slit and his face drained of color. He had been trapped in the tiny room for months and
he was finally free. He inhaled deeply, taking in the ancient, musty air. The corridor that
contained his cell was dark, damp, and humid. There were streaks of red along the walls, most
likely due to the massive iron deposits above his underground prison. Edward took all of this in
as he crept through the unlit hallway, a small, jagged piece of bloody glass in hand. Seven years
ago, Edward s life had been perfect. He was healthy, rich, and respected. Many people looked up to
him and he had no enemies. At least, he thought that he had no enemies.... Show more content on

His captors hadn t told him anything about where they were going and how long it would take.
If he remained like this, he would go insane. Hey, he demanded, how far away are we from the
jail? One of his kidnappers calmly replied, You had better not say anything else. Otherwise, my
friend here will gladly put a lead bullet into your privileged little skull. The rest of the car ride
was dead silent. Eventually, the car slowly came to a halt. He heard the 2 men in the front of the
car shift in their seats. Hey, he said, what are you Edward heard a dull thud and was knocked
backward. The last things he could remember were feeling a sharp, stinging pain in the front of
his skull and slowly losing consciousness. When he awoke, Edward noticed a throbbing pain in
his head. He couldn t see anything, thanks to the blindfold, and couldn t say anything due to the
gag. His hands were tied behind his back, his arms were bound with rope, and his feet were
lashed together. His body was completely immobilized. Behind him, Edward could hear some men
whispering and metal scraping against the floor. He strained to hear what they were discussing
until his blindfold was removed. His eyes were immediately blinded by the sudden reintroduction
to the light and he instinctively shut them. When they readjusted, Edward s eyes saw an
extraordinary sight; he was in what appeared to be an underground city. His captors severed the rope

At the start of World War II Chanel first business obstacle occurred when she closed her shops. As
briefly stated, Chanel became romantically involved with a German officer, this caused a major
impact on her image and brand. Many years later Chanel was in competition with Christian Dior,

Catholic Church
THE SYMBIOTIC RISE OF CATHOLICISM AND MILITARISTIC VIOLENCE FROM THE
8TH TO THE 12TH CENTURY In this essay, I examine how the rise of the Catholic Church s
power in Western Europe and the increased military violence are symbiotic, not contradictory in the
8th to 12th centuries I argue that the papal coronations of Pippin and Charlemagne begin the
papacy s relationship with political rulers and how it transitions from a weak structure to a
bureaucracy that envisions a transnational state that can motivate an entire continent to embark on a
crusade. I include the Cluniac Reforms and Gregorian Reforms as examples of how the Catholic
Church grows into a more powerful entity and no longer depends on rulers like Pippin to defend
them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Animal Captivity Dilemma
The Dilemma of Animal Captivity Animal captivity is an extremely important, and often
overlooked problem that we, as human beings, have placed on nature and the animals that live in
the endangered environment. There are groups of people worldwide who are extremely against
animal captivity because of the drastic and permanent effects it leaves on the animals. These ideas
of hatred against animalcaptivity are expressed in small ways such as posting a picture on
Instagram that represents animal cruelty in captivity. Another way these ideas can be expressed
is through large representations such as movies. Films such as Jurassic World and Blackfish are
prime examples of this. Both of these films are representing the severe repercussions that can
come from keeping large, dangerous animals in captivity. Though Jurassic World is a fictional
movie, it is able to send the message that having animals that are dangerous in captivity is
something that is very dangerous. Blackfish offers a real and terrifying glimpse into what happens
to the mindset of animals who are put into captivity and the threat that those animals pose to not
only other animals in captivity but also the humans who are in charge of looking after these
animals. This problem of taking animals away from their natural habitat and placing them in
captivity is a prime example of how humanity is trying to assert itself as dominant of everything
else. Mankind has thought of itself as a protector of the wild animals by

Sexual Behavior And Sexual Abuse
In this time there are so many illnesses and disorders that go either unknown or unseen. One that
seems to go misunderstood is sexual compulsive behavior, also known as sexual addiction. Other
ways to refer to it is sexual dependency, hypersexuality, nymphomania(for females) and
satyriasis(for males). Sexual addictionis the phenomenon in which people can not control their
sexual behavior and urges. Those who have this disease is obsessed with sexual thoughts and don t
have the ability to control their urges.
Some people misunderstand this as an excuse to act this way, yet in reality it s a mental disorder
that challeges theindividual. In order for it to be considered an addiction it has to interfere with
their lives.Psychologists don t have a criterion for diagnosing sexual addiction, so they treat it
similar to that of substance abuse. For someone who has sexual addiction, their thoughts all day will
be preoccupied with the thought of sex, and shaping their day around activities that involve sex. For
example, watching pronography, masterbathing or planning events that will either involve sex or
end in it.This serious disorder can cause devastating effects on the person, emotionally and mentally.
Signs that someone is a sex addict can vary on the person. Yet the main signs would be if sex
dominates the individual s life; the individual engages in phone sex, computer sex, use of
prostitutes,pornography or exhibitionism;the individual habitually masturbates;the individual

This Essay Is Looking At What The Key Factors Most Commonly
This essay is looking at what the key factors most commonly regarded as being linked to health
inequalities in the United Kingdom. Firstly, what does the term health inequalities mean according
to the World Health Organisation (WHO) Health inequalities can be defined as differences in health
status or in the distribution of health determinants between different population groups. For
example, differences in mobility between elderly people and younger populations or differences in
mortality rates between people from different social classes. It is important to distinguish between
inequality in health and inequity. Some health inequalities are attributable to biological variations
or free choice and others are attributable to the external... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The further up the ladder you climb in a business the better the health benefits can be for example
the higher you go up in the company private health care you get raises in value also getting paid
leave to recover, unlike the workers who are nowhere near the lower middle class section of the
business structure they will be using the NHS this can mean long waiting lists, unpaid leave or
sick pay which is not a lot.
Another factor to inequalities of health could be regional differences and what I mean by this is
where you live in the United Kingdom (BBC, 2011) helps point out if you live in central London
and areas in the south east of England like Brighton, Canterbury(Kent), Oxfordshire, the Isles of
Wight and Surrey they are going to have higher living standards than anyone living in the north of
England for example Middlesbrough, Gateshead or Sunderland and it s the same when it comes to
Wales and Scotland. The reason for the massive divide brings me on to another factor of why there
is such an inequality in health which is employment.
As the (BBC, 2011) states on their website This is linked to employment opportunities. Declines in
traditional industries such as mining have contributed to a

Lynching In America Essay
During the nineteenth century, lynching was brought to America by British Isles and after the
Civil War white Americans lynching African American increased. Causing and bringing fear into
their world. In the Southern United States, lynching became a method used by the whites to
terrorize the Blacks and to remain in control with white supremacy. The hatred and fear that was
installed into the white peoples head had caused them to turn to the lynch law. The term lynching
means to be put to death by hanging by a mob action without legal sanction. So many white people
were supportive of lynching because it was a sign of power that the white people had. Lynching of
the black peoplewas used frequently by white people, their is no specific detail of how many
times they had done it, but lynching of black people has lasted from 1882 to 1968. Lynching also
is in fact a inhuman combination of racism and sadism which was used to support the south s caste
system, (Gandhi).

Impact of Rhythm and Blues on African-American Culture Essay
Rhythm and blues, also known today as R B , has been one of the most influential genres of music
within the African American Culture, and has evolved over many decades in style and sound.
Emerging in the late 1940 s rhythm and blues, sometimes called jump blues, became dominant
black popular music during and after WWII. Rhythm and bluesartists often sung about love,
relationships, life troubles, and sometimes focused on segregation and race struggles. Rhythm and

From the 1950 s to the 1970 s rhythm and blues bands usually consisted of piano, guitars, drums
saxophone, bass, and were sometimes accompanied by background vocalists. New World
Encyclopedia (2008) states As rhythm and blues combined the elements of jazz, gospel music and
the blues, it thus created a very personalized form of melody and rhythm which has become
known as one of the outstanding styles of American music. From jazz and its combination of
African black folk music blended with European folk and pop music, rhythm and blues
incorporated the syncopated beats supported by colorful chordal combinations to mirror the
emotions and experiences of the composer and singer/musician. The term rhythm and blues has
had several different meanings. In the early 1950 s it applied to blues records, in the late 1950 s
it applied to electric blues along with gospel and soul, in the 1960 s it was called soul music, and
in the 1970 s it was a blanket term for soul, funk, and disco. Much of the popular electric guitar led
blues bands like Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, and BB King that came from Memphis and Chicago
were considered rhythm and blues since they appealed to the older demographic. The broadcasting
and recording industries did not solely represent the conquering racial assumptions of the 1950 s,
they internalized them and helped to continue them. Racial conventions permeated the organization
and structure of the music industry at every level. The very existence

Human Nature Of Nature
Man kinds biggest question in life is about our purpose and place on earth. Human civilizations
throughout time have struggled with understanding nature and society s purposes in nature, which
often stems from responsibility, coexistence, and population control concerns for humanity as well
as animal kind. Several wolf species have faced persecution and sever lost of habitat because of
humans. Man kind s treatment of varying wolf species clearly stems from people s attempt to
balance responsibility, coexistence, and population control, but failing miserably. However, human
civilizations recently begun to intensely attempt to be responsible with nature, coexist with other
inhabitants of nature, and ethical population control for animals with the use of education and
advancements in technology. Human civilization s technologies have a purpose and place on earth
in which humanity is morally and ethically responsible for the environment and animals of Earth
that require coexistence and ethical population control intervention from mankind. Advancements
in technology cause an awakening of awareness for man kind s responsibility towards humans own
natural surroundings, awareness of human impact on those surroundings, and human s impact on
other inhabitants. Recent advances in remote sensingtechnology, and the processing of remotely

Socrates The Apology Analysis
Socrates died after his attempt to persuade the Athenians by telling the truth during a time when
truthfulness was of little concern. I found unit 3 to be extremely interesting because I never knew
about the trial or death of Socrates. Socrates is known as the father of Greek Philosophy and was
put on trial by citizens of Athens in 399 399 B.C.E. for allegedly corrupting the youth and Impiety.
Unit 3 allowed me to examine the trial and learn about the attitudes of people in Athens during this
era. The title of the dialogue I learned about was, The Apology. The Apology was dialogue written
by Plato, one of Socratesstudent s and admirers, in an attempt to defend Socrates reputation after
his death. It is a description of the speech that Socrates gave when he was on trial for the alleged
crimes. Learning about the trial of Socrates was interesting to me because it caused me to examine
the way criminal indictments has changed over the years. Nowadays, criminal indictments occur
after someone has been taken to jail and charged... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meletus simply told Socrates to appear in court before the King Archon for the charges of
impiety, on a certain date. During this appearance, a date was set for the preliminary hearing
where the public could attend (Criminal). This is dissimilar to the way criminal indictments are
obtained today. In order for a person to be criminally indicted these days, a prosecutor, not peers
or citizens, must first present the criminal case before a grand jury and there are no judges
present. During this procedure, the prosecutor can call upon witnesses and provide a probable
cause for the indictment to move to a court of law. Then the grand jury decides whether or not to
allow the case to go to court (What is). Socrates and Meletus was heard by the magistrate at his
preliminary hearing, afterwards, the magistrate drew up formal charges and set a court date for the
trial to be publicly held

Baseball, football, hockey, and soccer, all of these sports are American past times. Most have
their favorite teams in which they follow and some even tail gate at their games. Then you also
have your die hard fans who get dressed up in the team colors and according to team name or
mascot. In some cases like that of Red skin fans that sometimes include fans appropriating Native
Americans by wearing red face paint, head dresses, and war paint. In recent years the Red Skins
and other sports teams have received back lash from the Native American communities demanding
that they change their name and mascot due its racial insensitivity and stereotyping of the Native
American people. Some will debate that sport team names and mascots like that of the Red Skins,
Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves or the Chicago Blackhawks are not offensive but in my personal
opinion Pro sports teams should not be allowed to continue to appropriate race or culture. Most
people don t put too much thought into what we have come to think as generic sport team names
such as Braves, Warriors, Chiefs, and etc. Many do not think of the negative affect these names may
have on Native American communities. Frank Deford from the Morning Addition has spoken to
some Native American activists whom believe, that the use of such nicknames and the display of

Significance Of Dracula
To what extent was Bram Stoker s Dracula based on historical figures?
In 1897, Bram Stoker wrote Dracula, the story of a monstrous Transylvanian count who terrorized
local villages and fed on the peasants who lived in them. The book is today widely recognized as a
historically significant literary work, and its importance has caused many scholars to debate
whether Bram Stoker s main character Dracula was actually inspired by real historical figures.
Many scholars believe that Vlad the 3rd or Vlad the Impaler was the direct inspiration for Count
Dracula. Vlad the 3rd was the son of King Vlad the 2nd Dracul and as Prince, was the heir to the
Wallachian throne. He was born during the year of 1431 and died during a battle in December

The Issue Of Illegal Immigration Essay
Securing Our Borders
Illegal immigration is an issue that plagues the border states and it must be controlled.
What should be done with illegal immigrants has been a hotly contested issue in the news and also
during the current election process. In Obama s Numbers April 2016 Update , Brooks Jackson
states that in 2014, 11.3 million illegal immigrants came into the US. The Democrats and
Republicans debate on whether amnesty or mass deportation is the better alternative on what to do
with these illegal immigrants. I personally believe that mass deportation is a more effective means
of dealing with illegal immigration due to it being more cost effective than amnesty, removing
potential criminals with ties to the cartels, and is unfair to people that have or wish to come into
our country legally. The costs of amnesty is far too high to be a real solution to the illegal
immigration issue. The Immigration Bill s $6.3 Trillion Price Tag , Robert Farley states that the
cost of amnesty ranges from $6.3 to $5.3 trillion over the next 50 years. That s about $126 billion
to $106 billion per year. In Trumps Deportation Plan Prohibitively Expensive , Dolla Estevez
states that Trump s deportation plan would require the federal government to spend roughly $400
billion to $600 billion to deport 11.3 million undocumented immigrants and prevent future
unlawful entry into the U.S. over a 20 year time period, (Estevez). This is a much easier pill to
swallow, as it will only cost $30

Monsanto Pros And Cons
Many people talk about GMOs without even knowing what they are. GMO stands for
genetically modified organism, which does not sound like an appetizing name. (Whitman 1).
The GMOs discussed in this essay will be the GMOs developed by Monsanto, Monsanto is most
known for their genetically modified corn seeds; they make their seeds resistant to Roundup so
that farmers can spray the entire crop with Roundup and not have any adverse effects on the
finished product (Whitman 1). One may ask, why corn? This is a good question, corn is the
biggest crop grown in America because it can easily break down into many different components
that can make up so many other resources. In fact, corn is found in more than one half of the
items found at the grocery store. Corn is easily broken down into high fructose corn syrup, and so
many other things, corn has even made its way into diapers (Bawa and Anilakumar). The use of
GMOs is widely considered safe, but there is a body of recent evidence that has proven otherwise.
The use of GMOs in corn crops, although at first sight seem very beneficial to almost all aspects of
corn farming, upon further inspection may have many unforeseen downfalls. One cannot have a
conversation about GMOs without talking about Monsanto. Monsanto was founded in 1901 but
has not become a big factor until fairly recently. As previously mentioned, Monsanto genetically
modifies their seeds to resist the effects of Roundup, they do this to many seeds but mainly corn.
The corn crops have been putting many small farmers out of business because of one smart
adjustment that Monsanto has done to the corn s DNA. They made it so that the plants do not
reproduce (Bawa and Anilakumar). This makes it so that farmers who use GMOs have to go out
and buy new seeds every year, and this gets very expensive. On top of this, the farmers need to
buy Roundup and other resources. Interestingly enough, the farmers lose money every year at
harvest time (Bawa and Anilakumar). One may be prompted to ask, how do the farmers stay in
business? The only way that the farmers make money is because corn is subsidized by the
government, this is how the farmers make their money. The farmers who do not use GMOs end up
most of the time going

Examples Of Proverbs In The Hobbit
Hobbits, Dwarves, Elves and Orcs: A Look at the Life and Works of J.R.R. Tolkien

Would you run? Take a page out of Bilbo Baggins s book and engage the beast, flatter him. Tell

The Hobbit, riddles fascinate dragons. Tolkien advises us to always speak in riddles when
speaking to a dragon (Tolkien 200). Along with this piece of wisdom, Tolkien offers us a wealth of
other proverbs all throughout his books. Tolkien is the creator of Middle Earth and all of its

Bilbo values his comfort. While he is polite to the dwarves, he is afraid they will break his things
(Tolkien 12). He has little interest in adventures and is reluctant to accompany the dwarves on
their quest (Tolkien 20). Yet, Bilbo goes along with the dwarves as their burglar. Bilbo comes
back a changed hobbit. Tolkien may be suggesting that our comfort can prevent us from seeing

J.R.R. Tolkien left his mark on society. He gave modern civilization something to ponder. Tolkien
is considered to be one of the greatest authors to have ever lived. Tolkien lived a fairly normal life,
despite his undeniable connection with Middle Earth. Tolkien made a name for himself within the

Present Day Response Methods
The research reinforced my thesis that response methods are vital in law enforcement agencies and
what is needed to evolve with the inevitable changes occurring, the future trends emerging, and
challenges that go with it. Addressing crime is the most important responsibility of law
enforcement agencies and although there is an increase in crimeand criminal acts, the research
indicates that response methods will need to be enhanced in order for any law enforcement agency
to be successful. The research collected in the literature review shows that present day response
methods do not have the capability to deal with the enhanced crime and criminal acts. Possible
indication could be the expanding and uncertainty of the control of crime and offenders... Show

Staying ahead of these changes or forecasting for these changes will better equip law enforcement
personnel to handle the many challenges they may be faced with on a daily basis, weekly, monthly
and yearly basis. There are also insufficiencies when researching response methods in law
enforcement. It can be challenging to retrieve data on every response methods that police
departments utilize. Whereas other demographics, such as agency size, population, crime rates,
budgets, recruitment, criminal acts or technology may be obtainable, it can be vexing to find those
demographics to include how they affect, are used in response methods or implemented. Further
research should be investigated concerning the aspects of response methods in law enforcement. In
my opinion, law enforcement agencies have response methods implemented that work well for their
departments and the communities they serve, but with the increase in terrorism, cyber crimes, gun
violence, localized crime, and the growing population, response methods will have to be improved
to keep up with these increases. With the rapidly changing environment and communities, now
more than ever law enforcement agencies and the citizens of their community will need to work
more closely together to provide information to one another, to bridge the trust with each other and
to collaborate

Silverstein s The Giving Tree
Even though there are some similarities between these two books, The Giving Tree was written
with no known religious intention. It was first published in 1964 by Harper Row and was
written and illustrated by Silverstein (Levy). He was a controversial children s book author due
to his long connection with Playboy and his lack of patience around families. Despite this,
Silverstein sold more than ten million copies of The Giving Tree, as it still remains a classic
picture book. It has a prominent green cover but the words and pictures are printed in black and
white and displayed in a minimalistic manner. There are many interpretations of what the actual
relationship of the boy and tree is based on. A mother and son s bond is one that always... Show

The apple leaving the tree s branches shows a foreshowing of the sacrifice the tree will give. The
boy is looking up at the tree, smiling in anticipation for what is about to come down. Apples and
trees are constant symbols in The Bible. There are a few tufts of grass growing around the
bottom of the tree and initials that are carved by the boy. These two things never go away, even
when just a stump is left. The ever budding grass and the permanent letters can be seen as a love
that never dies for the boy even when the tree is stripped of life. Psalm 1:3 states He will be like
a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not
wither (Holy Bible: King James Version). This quote from The Bible shows that Jesus Christ is
compared to a tree and will always flourish and be willing to give fruit if possible. The tree that is

Las Vegas Gambling History
Las Vegas or the meadows as its Spanish name translates is the largest city in the state of
Nevada. Las Vegas was born in 1905, when William Andrews Clark sold 110 acres of land
adjacent to the Union Pacific Railroad tracks for $265,000. Officially incorporated in 1911, over
the course of just 100 years, the small railroad town grew to become the most populous American
city that was founded in the 20th century. Today, Las Vegas has a population of 603,488 and a
wider metropolitan area of above 2 million, which makes it the 29th largest city in the USA. With
4,000 to 8,000 people moving here each month, it s also one of the fastest growing cities in the
country.
Mostly famous for its mega hotels and casinos, Las Vegas is considered to be the gamblingand
entertainment capital of the world. The major events that shaped Las Vegas as a gambling center
occurred in 1931, when the construction of the Hoover Damn began, bringing thousands of workers
into the city. At the same time, the state of Nevadadecided to legalize gambling. Consisted solely of
males from across the country, the work force created a market for large scale entertainment. ...

Comparing David And Michal
R. Alter asks, The whole story of David and Michal concludes on a poised ambiguity through the
suppression of casual explanation: Is this a punishment from God, or simply a refusal by David to
share her bed, or is the latter to be understood as the agency for the former?
Filling gaps of this ambiguity, many commentaries and scholars, compared to small numbers of
scholars who view the second option of Alter, conclude Michalwas physically barren as a result of
God s judgment as follows.
Michal s unproductive womb would have been interpreted as a curse sent against a disobedient wife
It may be that she had despised not simply her husband but also Yahweh.
It seems likely that this is to be interpreted as a punishment sent by Yahweh on account of her
attitude to the Ark
The closing phrase of the unit implies her childlessness is her punishment (against the Ark)
Her childlessness means rather that the Lord himself takes up the gauntlet that she has thrown
down... Michal has rejected not David, but Yahweh.
Was Michal, the daughter of Saulwhom God had abandoned (1 Sam 15:28) childless as a result of
speaking against the ark representing God, or his anointed King? Did the text really imply that

Bubble Gum
Have you ever wondered who invented bubble gum, or why it s pink? How do you go about
getting the answers to these questions? Easy. Think way, way back, not to prehistoric times but
close, 1928. Popular With Children, Unpopular with Parents and Teachers. The first known
bubble gum appeared in 1906, and was a dud. Known as Blibber Blubber, it was sticky, brittle,
and insufficiently cohesive. In 1928, an accountant, Walter Diemer, invented an improved version
of bubble gum. The only food coloring he had on hand was pink, so for many years, pink was the
common color of bubble gums. Diemer arranged to market the bubble gum in Philadelphia candy
stores and the product became wildly popular with children. Fleer Company purchased the recipe,...

developed for tobacco chewers and snuff users. The chewing gums served as a drug delivery

increasingly stringent regulations against smoking in public places created a new market for

objective was to have the addicted smoker chew rather than smoke, with the hope that eventually

The Objective Of The Experiment Was To Understand The North
The objective of the experiment was to understand the North and South poles of a magnet and
how they relate to each other for a single magnet and two magnets when like poles or unlike poles
are placed together. The results of the experiments verified the properties of magnets with respect
to how like poles repel and how unlike poles attract. Also, electromagnets were created and
investigations confirmed Lenz s law. The experiment produced results that agreed with
expectations, confirming the behavior of like poles, unlike poles, electromagnets and Lenz s law. A
Magnetic FieldSensor was used to measure the magnetic field due to the current flowing in the coil
and showed a steady magnetic field relative to time.

A bar magnate that is allowed to rotate freely, will have one end point in the northerly direction
while the other will point in the southerly direction. The two magnetic poles for each magnet
consist of the South Pole and the North Pole.
Poles that are un similar attract each other, while poles that are similar repel each other. A
permanent magnet attracts a non magnetized object that contains iron to either of its poles. The
earth is a giant magnate itself, with its north geographical pole pointing in the direction of the
magnetic South Pole. This causes the north pole of a compass needle to point north. While isolated
positive and negative charges exist, isolated magnetic poles do not exist. Poles of a magnet always
exist in pairs.
It was 1819, when Han Christian Oersted, the Danish scientist noted for the first time that a
compass needle underwent deflection when to a wire carrying current was placed close to it. This
was the start of the relationship between magnetism and moving charges. Andre Ampere in France
reached a similar conclusion. Soon afterwards Michael Faraday in England and Joseph Henry in
the United States found that a moving a magnet placed near a conducting loop can induce a current
in the loop. Magnetic and electric fields are intertwined. An electric charge at rest results in the
creation of an electric field, which exerts a force on any other charge

However, this rejection that these characters have also seems to be a symbol of male anxiety. The
characters always seem to be dispatched by their male equivalents. Looking at Heat again, when
Neil Mc Cauley is dying, he reaches out gesturing to hold Vincent s hand, squeezing it tightly. This

highlights the estrangement that postmodernism creates between people. This mirror image theme
is most visible in the Manhunter . Will Graham (William Petersen), chases after the notorious

Cretaceous-Rat Extinction Research Paper
The cretaceous tertiary (KT) boundary extinction happened approximately sixty five million years
ago. Sixty to eighty percent of all living species became extinct at this boundary (Raup 1988). The
KT extinction was indeed a mass extinction event. Mass extinctions are periods in Earth s history
when extremely large numbers of species die out simultaneously or within a limited time frame.
The most severe mass extinctionever occurred at the end of the Permian period when 96% of all
species died out. The K T mass extinction obliterated almost all the large vertebrates on Earth, on
land, at sea, and in the air (all dinosaurs, plesiosaurs, mosasaurs, and pterosaurs) suddenly became

There are a lot of theories about why the K T extinction occurred, but a widely accepted theory
was proposed in 1980 by a physicist named Luis Alvarez and his son Walter Alvarez who was a
geologist. the theory is that an asteroid 4 9 miles (6 15 km) in diameter hit the Earth about 65
million years ago, creating the Chicxulub crater at the tip of Mexico s YucatГЎn Peninsula. The
crater is more than 110 miles in diameter and 12 miles in depth. It is one of the largest confirmed
impact structures on Earth; The impact would have penetrated the Earth s crust, scattering dust
and debris into the atmosphere, and causing huge fires, tsunamis, severe storms with highly
acidic rain , seismic activity, and perhaps even volcanic activity . The impact could have caused
chemical changes in the Earth s atmosphere, increasing concentrations of sulfuric acid, nitric
acid, and fluoride compounds. The heat from the impact s blast wave would have incinerated all
the life forms in its path. The evidence for the impact was first discovered by Walter Alvarez and
some of his colleagues. They found that rocks laid down precisely at the K T boundary contain
extraordinary amounts of the metal iridium. The dating is precise, and the iridium layer has been
identified in more than one hundred places around the Earth. Where the boundary is in marine
sediments, the iridium occurs in a layer just above the last Cretaceous microfossils, and the
sediments above it contain Paleocene microfossils from the earliest part of the Cenozoic. Iridium
is much rarer than gold on Earth, yet in the K T boundary clay iridium is usually twice as abundant
as gold, sometimes more than that. The same high ratio is found in meteorites. The Alvarez group
therefore suggested that iridium was scattered worldwide from a cloud of debris that formed as an
asteroid struck somewhere on Earth. Shocked quartz was

Chief Project Leader For Musat s New Project

members with different skills and talent to execute and finalise the project. The paper will
introduce the members I have chosen and justify why I have appointed them to the team. I will
also address potential issues of each member and as a manager I will justify how I will oversee
outcomes of the workto report to Fiona.
First appointed member of the team is Dagma. I have chosen Dagma for her long term experience
in the industry and capability to manage a team with maturity.
Dagma will be useful in the project to oversee new members to MuSat such as Angela Hutness.
Because Dagma is and mature member of the group with an authoritative attitude, Dagma will be
my eyes and ears for reporting of other members of the team. This approach, according Beir
(1995), is using a leader within the team who knowns the team well enough to compensate for any
risks in the creative process, (Beir, 1995, p. 503). Dagma will fill structural holes for instances,
running along information to members like Charles who may be left out due to leaving meetings
early. Other team members such as Philippa who might work solo could leave information gaps in
the reporting, Dagma will be able to focus on the process of others in the project and translate
information across the team when I am unable to, inevitably building trust within the team.,(Burt,

Lord Of The Flies Lomb Song Analysis
This song depicts how the boys felt when they first arrived at the island. They saw that there were
no adults and were excited about all the fun they were planning to have together and without
parental supervision. The song paints an island in a positive light saying that it s a paradise, just
like the boy s original fantasies.
Welcome to the Jungle Guns and Roses
This song relates to Lord of the Flies by showing how the boys slowly became more and more
like animals. In the beginning, things were great. The boys had fun, swam, and ate fruit under
Ralph s leadership. But as Jack s obsession with hunting became unmanageable and he replaced
himself as the new leader of the new tribe , the boys became more and more savage. This chaos
and destructive behavior is modeled in Welcome to the Jungle by lyrics such as welcome to the
jungle, it gets worse here everyday, Ya learn to act like an animal.
Mob song Beauty and the Beast
The mob song from the movie Beauty and the Beast is very similar to the boys ritualistic hunting
dance. They both have a leader Gaston/Jack who urge on the mob to kill the beast.
Gaston and Jack understand that fear can perpetuate a mob mentality that is easily controlled
through a form of frightened excitement and through the absence of light. That is why both Simon
and Piggy both died at the hand of the tribe. The Mob Song uses imagery of darkness and shadow,
much like the novel and both a fueled by a frenzied excitement from the mobs.
Ralph A character Sketch
One of the main characters in Lord of the Flies, Ralph is one of the oldest bigguns on the island.
His good looks and confident demeanor quickly makes him the obvious leader to the boys.
Although he lacks Piggy s apparent intelligence, Ralph is relatively logical and responsible, with
sound judgment and a firm moral scale. But, like the other boys, he can fall into the same entraping
instincts that affect the other boys, as demonstrated by his part Simon s murder.

Plato s Ideal City
The Ideal City In Plato s book Republic he describes what he thinks would be an ideal city, for
this city to be ideal it would have to be just. In his just city there are three classes of people; gold,
silver, and bronze/iron; known as the National Division of Labor. The guardians of the city are
placed in the gold category, the auxiliaries in the silver, and the farmers and craftsmen are in the
bronze/iron category. Plato argues that the National Division of Labor reflects the requirements of
nature and produces a harmonious whole. Wisdom, courage, moderation, and justice are the four
virtues that this ideal city must have to be just. The guardians, also known as philosopher kings,
being in the gold class of the city, are wise,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The city wouldn t be able to exist without the bronze/iron category; the farmers and craftsmen
grow all the food and make every product that is needed. If I had to choose which category I
would like to be in I would choose the bronze/iron category. I wouldn t prefer to be in the gold or
silver category because I wouldn t want my life completely controlled and not be able to have
any privacy. Having my life all about the rest of the city and having my life planned out isn t
something that I would enjoy, I would want to make my own decisions and not having them
made for me. Sure you could say that that is selfish and unjust but that is what would truly make
me happy. Plato says that to truly be happy that you have to flourish and thrive as opposed
having pleasure. I think that if I was in the bronze/iron class that I would flourish and thrive
because in that class I have more opportunities to succeed in different areas of life. In the bronze
/iron class you are able to live your own life, the life you want to live instead of being told what
to do and how to live every day. In this ideal and just city, everyone: the guardians, auxiliaries,
and farmers and craftsmen, have to do their own task, otherwise it wouldn t be just. The people in
these three classes all have to flourish and thrive in whichever class they are in. The guardians can

Value Of Education Analysis
The value of education has become one the clearest indicators of life outcomes such as employment,
income, and social status, and wellbeing. As far as the value of education goes, there is there much
behind the successful student. There are many programs that universities offer to their students to
make them the best they can be. Trio has had a great impact on my educationby helping me achieve
me a good quality education and have overall good experience at NDSU. In addition, I will be
explaining how these funds will help me achieve my academic goals.
Trio has not only had a big impact on me as a student but as well as my well being. School
mattered very much to me and learning even more. I worried about getting good grades in college
without getting the quality experience for college. All that changed the fall of 2015, the year
when I got into Trio. Finally, I had a good support system for me at college to feel like I wasn t
only going through this alone. It has helped me want to continue to grow, mature and learn. Not
only has it helped me as an overall well being, but as well as with assistance on my assignments

Many know the metaphor, to live under someone s shadow , being the unsuccessful individual in
comparison to one who is successful. The constant feeling of envy when one person achieves
something higher than the other. This can apply to many situations, coworkers, students, or in this
case: siblings. Although it differs from household to household, siblings tend to do a compare and

common among brothers and sisters? Can this constant compare and contrast mindset apply to all

Essay on The Debate Concerning Secondhand Smoke
We all know that smoking poses a significant risk to our health. We can make an educated
decision about whether or not to smoke, and if we do decide to smoke, we should be willing to
accept any negative effects such as lung cancer and heart disease later in our lives. But what about
exposure to secondhand smoke? At this point, we don t always have a choice in exposure to the
smoke of others. The Office of the Surgeon General (OGS) has documented a high level of
exposure to secondhandsmoke among nonsmoking adults and children in the United States. Blood
tests of nonsmokers for the presence of cotinine, a chemical produced by nicotine, indicate that 88%
of nonsmoking Americans are exposed to secondhand smoke(US, OGS, Clean).

The EPA determined that secondhand smoke is a Group A carcinogen, a classification of pollutants
that have been proven to cause cancer. The tobacco industry responded to the report with a well
funded advertising, public relations, and legal counterattack. Since then, controversy over the topic
has spread, both politically and socially. But what exactly are the risks associated with secondhand
smoke, and how has the American public responded to those risks?
Secondhand smoke is most harmful to young children, especially those with asthma or other
respiratory diseases. The EPA notes that 43% of children in the United States under the age of 11
live in a home with at least one smoker. Children exposed to secondhand smoke tend to have more
bronchitis, pneumonia, respiratory infections, fluid in the middle ear, and asthma. And if both
parents smoke, or if the child is frequently exposed to smoke, the child s chances of showing
symptoms of these diseases increase (US, EPA, Indoor).
Infants and toddlers up to 18 months of age suffer between 150,000 and 300,000 cases of lung
infections because of secondhand smoke, according to EPA estimates. Secondhand smoke produces

Reading And Thought By Dwight Macdonald
Reading and Though
In Dwight MacDonald s Reading and Though, he disagrees with Henry Luce s Idea of functional
curiosity. Luce coined the term functional curiosity, meaning the kind of searching, hungry interest
in what is happening everywhere. MacDonald s opinion of functional curiosity is that it only
encourages practice in reading rather than giving beneficial information. He considers today s
literature as flimsy and overwhelming. MacDonald assumes that all reading done in today s society
is shallow thinking. I agree with MacDonald that there is a great amount of mediocre literature
floating around, but he does not take into account the technological advancements, the lifestyles of
people today, and students.
With the new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The way media is run justifies MacDonald s argument that people are making things that are, hastily
slapped together stuff... and would be foolish to waste much time or effort on writing or reading.
All in all technological advancements have made everything more accessible and eventually
handicaps people from finding the truth for themselves. Instead society just takes in the information
that is spoon fed to them with no thinking required.
MacDonald s argument was written in the 1940 s. Now it is the 21st century and his argument
hardly applies to how information is processed today. Our society has become a more fast paced
and busy lifestyle. Time is something that people do not have to spare. People like instant
gratification and that is the same way we like our information. Literature is written in a way to
obtain the most information with the least amount of time. Newspapers for example, are
purposely written where the first couple of paragraphs give you the gist of what is going on and
then the rest is detail. If you are interested in the topic then you would continue reading or you just
move on. MacDonald s example of a 16th century man reading today s newspaper is a very flawed
argument. Reading is something that only people with money and high social status is able to
accomplish. Not only is it restricted to the upper class, but in the 16th century people were mainly
farmers, and could not read. Most

The reaction was obviously expected given how new this sort of technology is. Not only is it

The LEDs can also be programmed to move along with cars at the speed limit, warning drivers
instantly when they are driving too fast. The LEDs will also be used to paint words right into the
road, warning drivers of an animal on the road, a detour ahead, an accident, or construction work.
Central control stations will be able to instantly customize the lines and words in real time,
alleviating traffic congestion and making the roads more efficient as well as safer. Cities and
towns will be able to customize the lines for roads and parking spaces to meet their own unique
needs. For example, here in Sandpoint, Idaho, we have Lost in the 50 s Weekend each May.
Currently, the city puts out orange cones to remark the parking places and block off streets for the

Ice Fili Case Study Solution
While analyzing the Ice Fili case study, I determined that all six parts of the general external
environment are applicable. With the economic crisis and the dissolution of the Soviet Union an
open market economy emerged. An open market system meant that the government had little to do
with the regulation of the marketwhich created issues because companies just like Ice Fili could
not patent or trademark some of their best selling ice cream creations. Companies took advantage
of this and put their own twist on some of the highly profitable Ice Fili ice creams like the Lakomka.
As years progressed so did the technology. The equipment from factories underwent great changes,
drastically increasing the amount of gallons that were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially there was a limited amount of suppliers but as time went on there wasn t an issue with
finding one because there were many to choose from with the same raw materials. With that being
said if they were not happy with a price from one they could easily switch to another for a better
cost.
Because there is such a variety of ice creams to choose from, the buyers have the power in this
industry. The variety of options available makes it more prone for buyers to not be loyal to one
specific brand. The all natural ingredients that Ice Fili used could be used a competitive advantage
if done so in an effective way. The natural ingredients also created an issue because they had a
lower shelf life which made it difficult for people to store and transport and therefore increasing
costs.
Companies that are wanting to enter the ice cream industry in Russia have a fair chance of
competing with other competitors that are currently in the industry. As discussed earlier with the
lack of the Government role in the market it makes it easy for anyone to join and copy an existing
company s strategies and/or products. Russia was still using old technology so companies that are
coming in from abroad have an advantage on them because they are bringing equipment that is
newer and more efficient. Ice fili should follow in the footsteps of new technology while still
maintaining their old school ways. By investing in new technology it would allow them to create

and ornamental plants throughout the world (Jones and Belmar, 1989; Naito et al., 1995; Yang et

A New Breed Of Genetic Engineering
Genetic modification has long been a part of the way humans adapt to their environment. From
selectively breeding sheep to get the perfect wool to eliminating unsavory seeds to get the tastiest,
reddest apples, people have been indirectly engineering the genes of other organisms for centuries.
However, scientific advancement has produced a new breed of genetic engineering. Scientists are
now able to actually insert genes from one organism into the DNA of another (Goldbas 20). While
this has led to numerous beneficial medicines and foods, the modern GMOs are enveloped in
controversy.

According to a Pew study, 88 percent of these [American Association for the Advancement of
Science] scientists believe that genetically engineered food products are safe to eat (Koberstein
49). However, of those very same scientists only 68 percent think the same of foods grown with
pesticides (Koberstein 49). This is incredibly ironic because all GMO foods are grown with the
use of pesticides. If the scientists properly understood GMOs, then the number for GMOs would
be no greater than the number for pesticides. They contradict themselves by having a lower
opinion of pesticide use than GMOs. Distinguished environmental journalist Paul Koberstein
reports the GMOs are grown using some [pesticides] which have been shown to be highly toxic to
the environment and humans, like atrazine, chlorpyrifos, as well as potentially hazardous
insecticidal proteins that are genetically embedded into the plant (49). There is no logical world in
which pesticide use is capable of being worse that GMO foods. This situation is just the beginning
of the GMO enigma, which remarkably involves simultaneously using and ignoring science. More
than just pesticides are causing harm when it comes to GMOs. The FDA, or Food and Drug
Administration, allows companies that manufacture GMOs to determine the safety of their own
products (Hemphill 8). While in theory the companies are supposed to only release products that

For John, the preparedness of the church is synonymous with the righteous activity of her
saints. In addition to the church s call to active participation as the partner of Christ in righteous
action in the world, the text takes a subtle yet critical turn toward a Eucharistic theology, as John
references the invitation to the marriage supper of the Lamb a point that will be discussed in
greater detail at a later juncture. While the word church is not directly mentioned in the
pericope, it must be noted that other biblical texts such as 2 Corinthians 11:2 3 and Ephesians 5:
25 27 lend support to the notion of the church as Christ s bride. As the narrative develops John
takes great care to remind his reader that the revelation that he receives comes as a result of an
angelic encounter. Toward the end of the pericope, the angel with whom John speaks, seems to
confirm that what John experiences has come from God as evidenced by the statement These are
true words of God. Revelation 19:9. This affirmation is significant primarily because John writes
while in exile on the island of Patmos. The vision that John receives and records suggests that he
has not been exiled from the presence of God and God s prophetic use. What

  • 2. Edward s Life Had Been Perfect Edward slowly stalked out of the dark, dusty cell. A guard lay motionless next to the open door, his throat slit and his face drained of color. He had been trapped in the tiny room for months and he was finally free. He inhaled deeply, taking in the ancient, musty air. The corridor that contained his cell was dark, damp, and humid. There were streaks of red along the walls, most likely due to the massive iron deposits above his underground prison. Edward took all of this in as he crept through the unlit hallway, a small, jagged piece of bloody glass in hand. Seven years ago, Edward s life had been perfect. He was healthy, rich, and respected. Many people looked up to him and he had no enemies. At least, he thought that he had no enemies.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His captors hadn t told him anything about where they were going and how long it would take. If he remained like this, he would go insane. Hey, he demanded, how far away are we from the jail? One of his kidnappers calmly replied, You had better not say anything else. Otherwise, my friend here will gladly put a lead bullet into your privileged little skull. The rest of the car ride was dead silent. Eventually, the car slowly came to a halt. He heard the 2 men in the front of the car shift in their seats. Hey, he said, what are you Edward heard a dull thud and was knocked backward. The last things he could remember were feeling a sharp, stinging pain in the front of his skull and slowly losing consciousness. When he awoke, Edward noticed a throbbing pain in his head. He couldn t see anything, thanks to the blindfold, and couldn t say anything due to the gag. His hands were tied behind his back, his arms were bound with rope, and his feet were lashed together. His body was completely immobilized. Behind him, Edward could hear some men whispering and metal scraping against the floor. He strained to hear what they were discussing until his blindfold was removed. His eyes were immediately blinded by the sudden reintroduction to the light and he instinctively shut them. When they readjusted, Edward s eyes saw an extraordinary sight; he was in what appeared to be an underground city. His captors severed the rope ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Catholic Church THE SYMBIOTIC RISE OF CATHOLICISM AND MILITARISTIC VIOLENCE FROM THE 8TH TO THE 12TH CENTURY In this essay, I examine how the rise of the Catholic Church s power in Western Europe and the increased military violence are symbiotic, not contradictory in the 8th to 12th centuries I argue that the papal coronations of Pippin and Charlemagne begin the papacy s relationship with political rulers and how it transitions from a weak structure to a bureaucracy that envisions a transnational state that can motivate an entire continent to embark on a crusade. I include the Cluniac Reforms and Gregorian Reforms as examples of how the Catholic Church grows into a more powerful entity and no longer depends on rulers like Pippin to defend them.... • 5. Animal Captivity Dilemma The Dilemma of Animal Captivity Animal captivity is an extremely important, and often overlooked problem that we, as human beings, have placed on nature and the animals that live in the endangered environment. There are groups of people worldwide who are extremely against animal captivity because of the drastic and permanent effects it leaves on the animals. These ideas of hatred against animalcaptivity are expressed in small ways such as posting a picture on Instagram that represents animal cruelty in captivity. Another way these ideas can be expressed is through large representations such as movies. Films such as Jurassic World and Blackfish are prime examples of this. Both of these films are representing the severe repercussions that can come from keeping large, dangerous animals in captivity. Though Jurassic World is a fictional movie, it is able to send the message that having animals that are dangerous in captivity is something that is very dangerous. Blackfish offers a real and terrifying glimpse into what happens to the mindset of animals who are put into captivity and the threat that those animals pose to not only other animals in captivity but also the humans who are in charge of looking after these animals. Firstly, what does the term health inequalities mean according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) Health inequalities can be defined as differences in health status or in the distribution of health determinants between different population groups. For example, differences in mobility between elderly people and younger populations or differences in mortality rates between people from different social classes. Another factor to inequalities of health could be regional differences and what I mean by this is where you live in the United Kingdom (BBC, 2011) helps point out if you live in central London and areas in the south east of England like Brighton, Canterbury(Kent), Oxfordshire, the Isles of Wight and Surrey they are going to have higher living standards than anyone living in the north of England for example Middlesbrough, Gateshead or Sunderland and it s the same when it comes to Wales and Scotland. The reason for the massive divide brings me on to another factor of why there is such an inequality in health which is employment. New World Encyclopedia (2008) states As rhythm and blues combined the elements of jazz, gospel music and the blues, it thus created a very personalized form of melody and rhythm which has become known as one of the outstanding styles of American music. From jazz and its combination of African black folk music blended with European folk and pop music, rhythm and blues incorporated the syncopated beats supported by colorful chordal combinations to mirror the emotions and experiences of the composer and singer/musician. The term rhythm and blues has had several different meanings. In the early 1950 s it applied to blues records, in the late 1950 s it applied to electric blues along with gospel and soul, in the 1960 s it was called soul music, and in the 1970 s it was a blanket term for soul, funk, and disco. Then you also have your die hard fans who get dressed up in the team colors and according to team name or mascot. Some will debate that sport team names and mascots like that of the Red Skins, Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves or the Chicago Blackhawks are not offensive but in my personal opinion Pro sports teams should not be allowed to continue to appropriate race or culture. What should be done with illegal immigrants has been a hotly contested issue in the news and also during the current election process. In Obama s Numbers April 2016 Update , Brooks Jackson states that in 2014, 11.3 million illegal immigrants came into the US. The Democrats and Republicans debate on whether amnesty or mass deportation is the better alternative on what to do with these illegal immigrants. I personally believe that mass deportation is a more effective means of dealing with illegal immigration due to it being more cost effective than amnesty, removing potential criminals with ties to the cartels, and is unfair to people that have or wish to come into our country legally. The costs of amnesty is far too high to be a real solution to the illegal immigration issue. The Immigration Bill s $6.3 Trillion Price Tag , Robert Farley states that the cost of amnesty ranges from $6.3 to $5.3 trillion over the next 50 years. That s about $126 billion to $106 billion per year. In Trumps Deportation Plan Prohibitively Expensive , Dolla Estevez states that Trump s deportation plan would require the federal government to spend roughly $400 billion to $600 billion to deport 11.3 million undocumented immigrants and prevent future unlawful entry into the U.S. over a 20 year time period, (Estevez). • 18. Monsanto Pros And Cons Many people talk about GMOs without even knowing what they are. GMO stands for genetically modified organism, which does not sound like an appetizing name. (Whitman 1). The GMOs discussed in this essay will be the GMOs developed by Monsanto, Monsanto is most known for their genetically modified corn seeds; they make their seeds resistant to Roundup so that farmers can spray the entire crop with Roundup and not have any adverse effects on the finished product (Whitman 1). One may ask, why corn? This is a good question, corn is the biggest crop grown in America because it can easily break down into many different components that can make up so many other resources. In fact, corn is found in more than one half of the items found at the grocery store. Corn is easily broken down into high fructose corn syrup, and so many other things, corn has even made its way into diapers (Bawa and Anilakumar). The use of GMOs is widely considered safe, but there is a body of recent evidence that has proven otherwise. The use of GMOs in corn crops, although at first sight seem very beneficial to almost all aspects of corn farming, upon further inspection may have many unforeseen downfalls. One cannot have a conversation about GMOs without talking about Monsanto. Monsanto was founded in 1901 but has not become a big factor until fairly recently. As previously mentioned, Monsanto genetically modifies their seeds to resist the effects of Roundup, they do this to many seeds but mainly corn. The corn crops have been putting many small farmers out of business because of one smart adjustment that Monsanto has done to the corn s DNA. They made it so that the plants do not reproduce (Bawa and Anilakumar). This makes it so that farmers who use GMOs have to go out and buy new seeds every year, and this gets very expensive. On top of this, the farmers need to buy Roundup and other resources. Interestingly enough, the farmers lose money every year at harvest time (Bawa and Anilakumar). One may be prompted to ask, how do the farmers stay in business? The only way that the farmers make money is because corn is subsidized by the government, this is how the farmers make their money. The farmers who do not use GMOs end up most of the time going ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Objective Of The Experiment Was To Understand The North The objective of the experiment was to understand the North and South poles of a magnet and how they relate to each other for a single magnet and two magnets when like poles or unlike poles are placed together. The results of the experiments verified the properties of magnets with respect to how like poles repel and how unlike poles attract. Also, electromagnets were created and investigations confirmed Lenz s law. The experiment produced results that agreed with expectations, confirming the behavior of like poles, unlike poles, electromagnets and Lenz s law. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A bar magnate that is allowed to rotate freely, will have one end point in the northerly direction while the other will point in the southerly direction. The two magnetic poles for each magnet consist of the South Pole and the North Pole. Poles that are un similar attract each other, while poles that are similar repel each other. A permanent magnet attracts a non magnetized object that contains iron to either of its poles. The earth is a giant magnate itself, with its north geographical pole pointing in the direction of the magnetic South Pole. This causes the north pole of a compass needle to point north. While isolated positive and negative charges exist, isolated magnetic poles do not exist. Poles of a magnet always exist in pairs. It was 1819, when Han Christian Oersted, the Danish scientist noted for the first time that a compass needle underwent deflection when to a wire carrying current was placed close to it. This was the start of the relationship between magnetism and moving charges. Andre Ampere in France reached a similar conclusion. Soon afterwards Michael Faraday in England and Joseph Henry in the United States found that a moving a magnet placed near a conducting loop can induce a current in the loop. Magnetic and electric fields are intertwined. An electric charge at rest results in the creation of an electric field, which exerts a force on any other charge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Looking at Heat again, when Neil Mc Cauley is dying, he reaches out gesturing to hold Vincent s hand, squeezing it tightly. The most severe mass extinctionever occurred at the end of the Permian period when 96% of all species died out. There are a lot of theories about why the K T extinction occurred, but a widely accepted theory was proposed in 1980 by a physicist named Luis Alvarez and his son Walter Alvarez who was a geologist. the theory is that an asteroid 4 9 miles (6 15 km) in diameter hit the Earth about 65 million years ago, creating the Chicxulub crater at the tip of Mexico s YucatГЎn Peninsula. The crater is more than 110 miles in diameter and 12 miles in depth. It is one of the largest confirmed impact structures on Earth; The impact would have penetrated the Earth s crust, scattering dust and debris into the atmosphere, and causing huge fires, tsunamis, severe storms with highly acidic rain , seismic activity, and perhaps even volcanic activity . The impact could have caused chemical changes in the Earth s atmosphere, increasing concentrations of sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and fluoride compounds. The heat from the impact s blast wave would have incinerated all the life forms in its path. The evidence for the impact was first discovered by Walter Alvarez and some of his colleagues. They found that rocks laid down precisely at the K T boundary contain extraordinary amounts of the metal iridium. The dating is precise, and the iridium layer has been identified in more than one hundred places around the Earth. Where the boundary is in marine sediments, the iridium occurs in a layer just above the last Cretaceous microfossils, and the sediments above it contain Paleocene microfossils from the earliest part of the Cenozoic. Iridium is much rarer than gold on Earth, yet in the K T boundary clay iridium is usually twice as abundant as gold, sometimes more than that. The same high ratio is found in meteorites. The Alvarez group therefore suggested that iridium was scattered worldwide from a cloud of debris that formed as an asteroid struck somewhere on Earth. Shocked quartz was ... • 36. Lord Of The Flies Lomb Song Analysis This song depicts how the boys felt when they first arrived at the island. They saw that there were no adults and were excited about all the fun they were planning to have together and without parental supervision. The song paints an island in a positive light saying that it s a paradise, just like the boy s original fantasies. Welcome to the Jungle Guns and Roses This song relates to Lord of the Flies by showing how the boys slowly became more and more like animals. In the beginning, things were great. The boys had fun, swam, and ate fruit under Ralph s leadership. But as Jack s obsession with hunting became unmanageable and he replaced himself as the new leader of the new tribe , the boys became more and more savage. This chaos and destructive behavior is modeled in Welcome to the Jungle by lyrics such as welcome to the jungle, it gets worse here everyday, Ya learn to act like an animal. Mob song Beauty and the Beast The mob song from the movie Beauty and the Beast is very similar to the boys ritualistic hunting dance. They both have a leader Gaston/Jack who urge on the mob to kill the beast. Gaston and Jack understand that fear can perpetuate a mob mentality that is easily controlled through a form of frightened excitement and through the absence of light. That is why both Simon and Piggy both died at the hand of the tribe. The Mob Song uses imagery of darkness and shadow, much like the novel and both a fueled by a frenzied excitement from the mobs. Ralph A character Sketch One of the main characters in Lord of the Flies, Ralph is one of the oldest bigguns on the island. His good looks and confident demeanor quickly makes him the obvious leader to the boys. Although he lacks Piggy s apparent intelligence, Ralph is relatively logical and responsible, with sound judgment and a firm moral scale. But, like the other boys, he can fall into the same entraping instincts that affect the other boys, as demonstrated by his part Simon s murder. Regardless, Ralph remains the most civilized character throughout the novel, save for Piggy. At the end of the novel, it was somewhat tragic because Ralph finally understands that evil lives inside of all the boys. This leaves him depressed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cities and towns will be able to customize the lines for roads and parking spaces to meet their own unique needs. For example, here in Sandpoint, Idaho, we have Lost in the 50 s Weekend each May. Currently, the city puts out orange cones to remark the parking places and block off streets for the parade, car show, and street dance. With Solar Roadways, they would push the Lost in the 50 s button which would repaint the road lines instantly. After the celebration, they would equally quickly return to the default setting. • 46. Ice Fili Case Study Solution While analyzing the Ice Fili case study, I determined that all six parts of the general external environment are applicable. With the economic crisis and the dissolution of the Soviet Union an open market economy emerged. An open market system meant that the government had little to do with the regulation of the marketwhich created issues because companies just like Ice Fili could not patent or trademark some of their best selling ice cream creations. Companies took advantage of this and put their own twist on some of the highly profitable Ice Fili ice creams like the Lakomka. As years progressed so did the technology. The equipment from factories underwent great changes, drastically increasing the amount of gallons that were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initially there was a limited amount of suppliers but as time went on there wasn t an issue with finding one because there were many to choose from with the same raw materials. With that being said if they were not happy with a price from one they could easily switch to another for a better cost. Because there is such a variety of ice creams to choose from, the buyers have the power in this industry. The variety of options available makes it more prone for buyers to not be loyal to one specific brand. The all natural ingredients that Ice Fili used could be used a competitive advantage if done so in an effective way. The natural ingredients also created an issue because they had a lower shelf life which made it difficult for people to store and transport and therefore increasing costs. Companies that are wanting to enter the ice cream industry in Russia have a fair chance of competing with other competitors that are currently in the industry. As discussed earlier with the lack of the Government role in the market it makes it easy for anyone to join and copy an existing company s strategies and/or products. Russia was still using old technology so companies that are coming in from abroad have an advantage on them because they are bringing equipment that is newer and more efficient. Ice fili should follow in the footsteps of new technology while still maintaining their old school ways. By investing in new technology it would allow them to create ... A Comparison Of Justice In Bohemia And A Scandal In Belgravia Examine how the crime fiction texts A Scandal in Bohemia and A Scandal in Belgravia privilege the dominate values of society and appeal to the audiences sense of justice. The crime fiction texts A scandal in Bohemia and A scandal in Belgravia explore the historical and cultural position of dominant social values and beliefs in society, shaped by the culture and time of which the texts were written. The audience is invited to consider the ways in which the privileged ideological assumptions which inform our reading, are important to the meaning we make from the text through the dominant social values at the time. One example of this is the Asch Conformity Experiment, where 75% of participants would choose the wrong answer on an obvious question just to not stand out from the crowd. After the experiment, all said they felt self conscious and feared disapproval from the group. Another example is when those in a social group have preferences or choices differ from the rest of the group, they will often conform to the rest of the group s opinion. Paired homokaryons that carry H factor differing at one or both genes microscopically showing C2 reaction produce fluffy tufts of heterokaryotic hyphae. Later studies revealed that H factor was also controlling nuclear pairing stability of heterokaryon. On account of these findings, Adams Butler (1982) have suggested heterokaryon incompatibility factors in T.cucumeris are the same as sexual incompatibility factors. Anderson stated that sexual vegetative incompatibility is same and reciprocal with each other. • 52. A New Breed Of Genetic Engineering Genetic modification has long been a part of the way humans adapt to their environment. From selectively breeding sheep to get the perfect wool to eliminating unsavory seeds to get the tastiest, reddest apples, people have been indirectly engineering the genes of other organisms for centuries. However, scientific advancement has produced a new breed of genetic engineering. Scientists are now able to actually insert genes from one organism into the DNA of another (Goldbas 20). While this has led to numerous beneficial medicines and foods, the modern GMOs are enveloped in controversy. The food industry is under great pressure as the world population sky rockets. According to a Pew study, 88 percent of these [American Association for the Advancement of Science] scientists believe that genetically engineered food products are safe to eat (Koberstein 49). However, of those very same scientists only 68 percent think the same of foods grown with pesticides (Koberstein 49). This is incredibly ironic because all GMO foods are grown with the use of pesticides. If the scientists properly understood GMOs, then the number for GMOs would be no greater than the number for pesticides. They contradict themselves by having a lower opinion of pesticide use than GMOs. Distinguished environmental journalist Paul Koberstein reports the GMOs are grown using some [pesticides] which have been shown to be highly toxic to the environment and humans, like atrazine, chlorpyrifos, as well as potentially hazardous insecticidal proteins that are genetically embedded into the plant (49). There is no logical world in which pesticide use is capable of being worse that GMO foods. This situation is just the beginning of the GMO enigma, which remarkably involves simultaneously using and ignoring science. More than just pesticides are causing harm when it comes to GMOs. The FDA, or Food and Drug Administration, allows companies that manufacture GMOs to determine the safety of their own products (Hemphill 8). For John, the preparedness of the church is synonymous with the righteous activity of her saints. In addition to the church s call to active participation as the partner of Christ in righteous action in the world, the text takes a subtle yet critical turn toward a Eucharistic theology, as John references the invitation to the marriage supper of the Lamb a point that will be discussed in greater detail at a later juncture. While the word church is not directly mentioned in the pericope, it must be noted that other biblical texts such as 2 Corinthians 11:2 3 and Ephesians 5: 25 27 lend support to the notion of the church as Christ s bride. As the narrative develops John takes great care to remind his reader that the revelation that he receives comes as a result of an angelic encounter. Toward the end of the pericope, the angel with whom John speaks, seems to confirm that what John experiences has come from God as evidenced by the statement These are true words of God. Revelation 19:9. This affirmation is significant primarily because John writes while in exile on the island of Patmos. The vision that John receives and records suggests that he has not been exiled from the presence of God and God s prophetic use. What ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
