The Pros And Cons Of Political Campaign Spending
In 2012 election, there were huge amounts of money going into political campaign spending.
Corporations were donating to Mitt Romney s campaign and trying to denounce Obama s spot.
In the article Citizens United and the Corporate Court by Jamie Raskin, she says that there are
844 Super PAC s and countless 501(c) vehicles; experts say billions of dollars, much of it
untraceable, will flood the 2012 election (Raskin 20). She explains that billions and billions of
dollars are spent in just wining a presidential campaign which is being untraceable. Lots and lots
of Super PAC s are taking advantage of the system and donating all this money to a presidential
campaign, which in return, the president will sponsor or vote on a certain bill which

Methods
Participants
The sample was made up of 49 male and 16 female participants competing in local golf events in
the United States (n = 29), United Arabic Emirates (n =12), Italy (n = 9), Germany (n = 6),
Scotland (n = 5), Spain (n = 2), Portugal (n = 1) and Sweden (n = 1). Their mean handicap was 2.54
(SD 8.85) with 13 (SD 8.25) years of mean playing experience.
Measures
In order to gather the data needed to analyse participants performance, self efficacy and related
attributions, Coffee and Rees (2008b) CSGU questionnaire was used: a 16 item measure which
assesses the four attribution dimensions of controllability, stability, globality and universality.
Under the CSGU questionnaire, each individual dimension is assessed with a four item subscale.
Firstly, participants were asked to note the main reason for their performance, stated in an open end
question. Following this, questions were asked which measured attribution dimensions in relation
to the previous statement. These questions could be answered on a scale from 1 (not at all) to 5
(completely) and each began with asking In general, to what extent is your reason something that...
. Higher scores refer to more controllable, stable (except for the item fluctuates across

Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry Of The Children
Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry of the Children Like many writers in the Victorian Age,
Elizabeth Barrett Browning used her poetry as a platform to reach a larger audience to bring
awareness to contemporary social issues (Greenblatt, Elizabeth Barrett Browning pp. 1,123).
Common issues that were written about during the Victorian Age included inequality between men
and women, child labor and the American abolitionist movement (1,123). According to the first
footnote referenced in her poem The Cry of the Children , Barrett Browning composed this literary
piece in reaction to a report distributed by a parliamentary commission following a government
investigation that had uncovered the mistreatment of child workers; and to... Show more content on

Later in the poem, the poet suggested that the children should spend time picking flowers in a
meadow (57 59), however, the children implied that they would not know the difference
between a cowslip and a weed, Are your cowslips of the meadows / Like our weeds anear the
mine? [ ] (61 62). Barrett Browning brought awareness to the fact that children who were
working in factories or mining for coal had no time to play, relax or to just be kids. The loss of
play time for these employed children was one of the issues Barrett Browning stressed in her
poem; whereas, other problems that these children encountered included exhaustion and facing
hazards daily. She conveyed to her readers how tired the children were and how little energy
they possessed (65 71); If we cared for any meadows, it were merely / To drop down in them and
sleep (67 68). She wrote about the exhaustion they experienced and its consequences for the
children, Our knees tremble sorely in the stooping / We fall upon our faces, trying to go (69 70).
She informed her audience of the dangers and difficulties that the adolescents experienced each
day. The children were required to move heavy loads, For, all day, we drag our burden tiring (73).
The adolescent workers were subjected to load noises that made their head ache, our heads, with

Schick Razors Advertisement Analysis Essay
In a Game Informer magazine, I have found an advertisement for a Schick razor. The line of
pictures of bald men caught my eye, so I had to take a minute to see what this advertisement
promotes. Schick razors continue to rise as one of the most popular brands of razors for men and
women. You can find their advertisements virtually anywhere. This particular advertisement is for a
newly designed razorwith a curved front, making it easier to get a close shave. Schick targets the
male populations with this advertisement. This advertisement has two pictures. The first shows
four large, boldly framed pictures of professionally dressed, aged bald men hanging on the wall.
Underneath of these pictures, three younger men set in white chairs lined up against the same
wall, fidgeting with things. Another young man sits in a chair facing to the side, separated from
the others by an end table, looking up at the pictures hanging on the wall. All the young men look
sharply dressed and all have full heads of styled hair. In the top corner, it says interview starts in
15 minutes . The second picture shows the same scene, except the man sitting in the chair facing to
the side, has shaved all his hair off. Him and an older bald gentleman, who has just entered the
room to call someone back for an interview, exchange... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The razor, not the main focus, got overlooked easily when I first viewed the ad. The razor has a
unique design with its curved front, so I think that it should have taken center stage in the
advertisement, since the razor will sell and not the men. I remained too focused on looking at
the men, trying to figure out why the all sat there and why one guy had a bald head so quickly
so I didn t even see the razor. I had to look a little to finally realize what the advertisement
promoted. If I plan to buy something based off an advertisement, I do not want to have to solve a
puzzle to know what they plan to

Kenyan Culture Vs American Culture
Going outside of one s own culture can be very eye opening to a person. Although it is sometimes
difficult to see through the perspective of someone else, it is vital in being able to communicate
with people around the world. I have taken two mission trips to Kenya, Africa during the summer
with my church group. Because of this trip, I became more aware of the differences there were in
cultureand just how many cultures I was missing out on. I believe that all cultures should become
more aware of at least one other culture to compare and contrast the two because each culture could
learn something from another. I have found the most important characteristics of this culture and
would like to share the interests that this culture has brought to my attention.
Good Leadership One of the things that the Kenyan culture values is good leadership among their
people. Leadership is an important role because the people in charge are the ones who come up
with the decisions for all their people. Kenya does not have the type of government that the United
States has so they tend to make their own rules when it comes to their culture groups. There are
many characteristics that are involved with being a leader such as social class, age, and how they
would be able to handle hard times, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People often view Africa as a place to hunt for big, wild animals in their natural habitats. Although
this is a common hobby for people to do in Kenya, it is not seen as such to the natives. They
believe that their animals are prized possessions, whether that be a family trading goats and
sheep, or leaving the wild animals alone in their homes. Zebras, for example, walk around in
Kenya as much as cows walk around in open fields in the United States. So it is a weird concept for
the Kenyan people to see foreigners coming to kill those animals for

Ecological Changes In Black-Tailed Prairie Dog Populations...
Introduction:
Although Colorado s growing population may be beneficial for the economy and social standings
in our country, it poses some ecological concerns. According to the Colorado State Demography
Office, Colorado s population has grown by nearly 75% since 1985 (Figure 1). In fact, Larimer
County s population has doubled in that same time period. It has become evident that changes in
Colorado s landscape have been altered due to this population boom. It is within our best interest to
evaluate the ecological concerns associated with such anthropogenic disturbances, specifically
along the Front Range of Larimer County. By observing and sampling areas where black tailed
prairie dogs (Cynomys ludovicianus) have settled, and where they ... Show more content on

They have traditionally been viewed as competitors with cattle for rangeland resources, so
eradication programs have reduced populations to less than two percent of those several decades
ago (Whicker and Detling 1988). The Colorado Parks and Wildlife have now deemed this keystone
species as a species of concern due to sylvatic plague, direct loss of habitat to urban/suburban
development, habitat fragmentation, conversion of habitat to agricultural uses, systematic
poisoning, recreational shooting, and inadequate regulatory mechanisms. Our biggest concerns are
focused on habitat loss and fragmentation and systematic poisoning and how they connect to
Colorado s growth in population.
The grasslands along the Front Range are primarily inhabited by native grasses including, needle
and thread grass (Stipa comata) and blue gramma grass (Bouteloua gracilis), as part of the
primary producers of the ecosystem. In areas where prairie dogs are present, native grass
populations decline at a rather quick rate and are often low in richness, evenness, and diversity
(Beals et al. 2014). We will look at how this affects the rest of the grassland ecosystem and
changes it where trophic efficiency is concerned. Prairie dogs are useful for trophic efficiency
because they help maintain the growth of primary producers in the grasslands.

Appreciation and Value for Life in Richard Wilbur s Poem...
In humanity, one chooses to spend the most amount of time doing what they love in order to
result in a satisfying and happily lived existence. Richard Wilbur expresses his appreciation and
value of life throughout the poem, A Late Aubade . This poem is influenced and based off of
Wilbur s strong relationship with his devoted wife. It emphasizes throughout detailed imagery how
one must enjoy the moments they have and can share with their loved one. The existence of an
individual is not about wasting time by being out and completing unnecessary jobs, it s about
spending time doing what one loves to do. Wilbur is convincing his wife to not go about on her
womanly daily activities; he wants her to stay and to take advantage of the few valuable moments
life offers for them to be together. Throughout A Late Aubade , Wilbur stresses by applying
descriptive language that in life, one must not waste any precious time and should rather focus on
what they are passionate about.
Richard Wilbur was born in New York City on March 1rst in 1921. He contained a strong literary
background as he had come from a family of several journalists. Wilbur s father was a painter and
as he recorded experiences of life through his paintings, Wilbur became inspired to do this through
poetry. As he came from a Christian religious background, this was a great influence to him as he
alludes to many Christian references throughout his works. He and his middle class family had
moved to North Caldwell,

The invention relates to the solar power plant. More, particularly, this invention relates to a
movable solar power plant cum solar pump wherein the solar panels can be carried to one place to
another and can produce simultaneously solar electricity for solar pump as well as electricity for
various electrical equipment/apparatus.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
As fossil fuels put the planet in peril, hopes for future prosperity in the developing world now
rest on bold initiatives of use of renewable source of energy. Solar technology is evolving, costs
are coming down and grid connectivity is improving. The dream of universal access to clean
energy is becoming more real. This will be the foundation of the new economy of the new century.
Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the Sun harnessed using a range of ever evolving
technologies such as solar heating, photovoltaic, solar thermal energy, solar architecture and
artificial photosynthesis. Solar panel refers to a panel designed to absorb the sun s rays as a
source of energy for generating electricity or heating. A solar powered pump is a pump running on
electricity generated by photovoltaic panels or the radiated thermal energy available from collected
sunlight as opposed to grid electricity or diesel run water pumps.

Why Is Whitney Houston A Tragic Hero
A tragic hero is an influential character who experienced a privileged life, partook in a rise to
fame or fortune, then declined due to a flaw in personality or life decision. Whitney Houston was
a one of a kind singer who stole hearts across America. She is a perfect example of a tragic hero,
due to her amazing vocal talent, influential role in teaching America that everyone has flaws and
embracing individuality is the key to success, and her ultimate decline in health and fame due to
alcoholism, drug abuse, and poor marital decisions. Whitney Houston grew up in humble

Iago Is Not Evil
To be evil, villainous or Satan like, is to state that one does hurtful things to other citizens for the
pure enjoyment of themselves. Hitler, Stalin and Napoleon are all leaders, who undoubtedly can
be stated as evil. In William Shakespeare s tragedy Othello, the character Iago is considered evil. It
is argued though that he is not evil, just simply a human. Iagothroughout the play becomes
insecure over his decline in power leading him to become jealous and get revenge on those who
contributed to this feeling of self doubt. Though Iago at times is satisfied with the way he treats
others, his motives are humanistic and the way he deals with his envy for others makes him one of
the manliest men in William Shakespeares Othello.

Iago s self doubt and jealousy is a natural result of being human, regardless of the way he decides
to deal with these emotions, he manages them more honestly and manly than anyone throughout
the play. Iago is well aware of the emotions he has and though he does not admit to anyone he is
feeling this way, he knows it personally. It is quite apparent to the audience, that Iago has once
before felt jealous; Oh, beware, my lord, of jealousy!/It is the green eyed monster which doth
mock/The meat it feeds on (III.iii.165 167). Iago s previous jealousy does not show that he is
evil or weak but rather that Iago is the only man throughout Othello to reveal his truly humanistic
emotions. Iago knows about the `green eyed monster of jealous` and does not freat to speak of it
knowing it is human to be jealous and that is exactly what he is. By studying Shakespeare`s
depiction of Iago, it can be concluded that if Iago felt as if being jealous was not human, he would
not warn others of it and rather let them deal with it themselves. The way Iago thinks, provides
proof to the audience that Iago neither is villainous or evil but just a human living in a society
where being powerful is important, thus, bringing

Essay On Crowd Out
Article Assessment Analyzing Two Peer Reviewed Journal Articles on the Implications of Medicaid
Expansion on Rates of Crowd Out.
The expansion of Medicaid in the United States has often been denounced due to fear of crowd
out. Crowd out studies have been investigated since the 1990s. Data vary from study to study
with some showing no significant evidence of crowd out to some showing up to 50%
(Muhlestein, 2013). Crowd out occurs when people choose to drop their private insurance plan
in favor of enrolling in the public plan. It can also occur if public program members refuse to use
private plans available or if an employer reduces coverage based on public program availability.
Rates of crowd out are subject to change due to the changing ... Show more content on

The purpose of this was to look at proportions of children who have private insurance within the
Medicaid eligibility threshold.
After conducting the study, researchers found significant differences in crowd out levels between
states with varying eligibility thresholds. Due to the varying levels of crowd out found in the
analysis, researchers also stated that studies of national crowd out rates should be disregarded. It
was found that 3% of Medicaid eligible children in families with income 250% of Federal Poverty
Level (FPL) and 6% of those in Medicaid eligible families with income 200% of FPL were found to
be subject to crowd out. It was found that no children in families with income 300% of FPL would
be crowded out.
The RD method does not allow an overall crowd out estimate, so it is limited to localized
estimates based on the eligibility threshold. Therefore, it often misses those beyond the
eligibility threshold who are crowded out. However, it allows for steady enrollment analysis long
after the expansion occurs. Evidence of significant crowd out is likely influenced by differing
methods of managing the Medicaid population and policies put in place to prevent crowd out. It
was also found that crowd out effects decrease as the eligibility threshold increases because
wealthier families within the range of eligibility for Medicaid are less likely to switch from private
to public

Pros And Cons Of Wind Power Puffery
Wind power puffery discusses the limitations and drawbacks of the use of wind power. H. Sterling

opinion but could also benefit the environment by providing another source of energy to help the

To me wind farms are both good and bad for the community but mostly bad because of the
validity and persuasion of this essay. I am in agreement with H. Sterling Burnett on many of his
points. One of the points that I see to be wrong would be that the wind farms don t generate
enough energy. To me I think any source of energy is better than none and even though the
energy isn t always being produced always it still will have a big effect on the environment when
it is. Wind energy could have tremendous benefits and could be a fast growing energy source
that will help the world. Besides the fact that I think the energy is good, I agree that these types
of energy take up many acres to produce enough energy and I believe it is harming specific
habitats because of these power plants being built. The author is very specific when talking about
certain things in his passage and one of these would be the harm being done to birds and bats.
Many statistics are stated in the few paragraphs proving how many birds are being killed each
year, and not just in the United States. Also in, Tariff, and Spain many birds have been killed by
wind turbine farms. Results are discussed on how lawsuits are going to be made and how
expansion of the farms is going to be limited. These are just few of the many statistics put into the
passage.

long you will need it. Decide New or Old?
Box trailers are perfect equipment pieces to have, but it is also necessary to figure out how
much you could spend on them. You could decide this by determining if you need the trailer for
long run, or for a short time. In addition to that, you could check both new and old trailers to

We Often Fall In Love With People And Think Long And Hard
We often fall in love with people and think long and hard about what it is that we really love
about them. Is it their smile? Personality? Laugh, maybe? The eyes? We can all agree that we all
have the same problem. That we can t exactly explain why we love the person. Well in this case,
sonnet XVII, Pablo Neruda loves his beloved from the inside, not the outside features. Pablo
Neruda was born in Chile and his sonnets are originally written in Spanish. He published the 100
LoveSonnets in 1959. He had an affair with his second wife with Matilde Urrutia. Later, they got

Looking at the original Spanish version, we see the rhyme scheme. The octave lines end with the

words give the sestet a rhyme scheme of bac bca. With this writing style, in this case, free verse,
Neruda is able to convey the message effectively. Through his words and style of writing, we can
get an idea of what kind of guy he is. In the first stanza, he describes what love is not. Neruda
says I don t love you as if you were a rose of salt, topaz, or arrow of carnations that propagate fire.
Here he uses nature to describe what love is not. But again, later we see that he uses plants to
declare his love. Moreover, the rose of salt is a reference to a type of rose that grows by the
ocean. A carnation usually symbolizes purity of love and affection and a topaz is a mineral that
comes in many colors. The first two lines indicate that his love for his partner is not the same as
the love one has for materialistic things or flowers. The line I love you as one loves dark things,
secretly, between the shadow and the soul. Neruda suggest what his emotional placement of love
is. It is deep in his soul and heart. He describes his love to dark things, but what does he mean by
that? It makes me think that there is something

on their feet and led them to Pylos (HERMES GOD О•ОЎОњО—ОЈ). Cunning Hermes proceeded
with his stolen cattle and Apollowent to search for them. Later, Apollo went to Zeusand demanded

There are essentially two pathways that transduce signs to start apoptosis in leukemia. The primary
route is the extrinsic pathway. It includes the trimerization of death factors like CD95/Fas/APO 1
or TNF receptor one which initiates caspase 8, which initiates the apoptotic machinery. The second
pathway is the intrinsic pathway. This pathway involves the p53 gene and is subsequently of more
concern. The p53 gene initiates the arrival of cytochrome C from the mitochondrial intermembrane
space into the cytosol. The cytochrome C in the presence of ATP reasons the oligomerization and
activation of Apaf 1 and caspase 9 as per Schuler, (2000).
Therefore, then prompt caspase three and other effector caspases that cause apoptosis. By utilizing
this data, experiments have been carried out that try to induce apoptosis in cancer cells by
activation of the p53 gene. One particular examination was done on the human osteosarcoma cell
line Saos 2, which is deficient in p53. According to Schuler (2000), an introduction of the p53 gene
led to apoptosis through an intrinsic pathway. Subsequently subjecting p53 to gene treatment might
be of enormous importance in the battle against leukemia.
According to Liu (1994), it has additionally been discovered that p53 mutant tumors are more
unstable genetically and this state of instability may enable the tumors to become more rapidly
resistant to drug treatments.

An analysis of porters value chain
To analyse the specific activities through which firms can gain a competitive advantage, it is
useful to model the firm as a chain of value creating activities. For this purpose, Porter identified a
range of interrelated generic activities common to a wide range of firms. The resulting model is
known as the value chain.
According to Porter (1985),
Competitive Advantage arises out of the way firms organise and arrange discrete activities .
Through using the ValueChain, the activities performed by a firm competing in a particular
industry can be grouped into categories as shown in the model below:
Upstream Activities Downstream Activities
Porter distinguishes between primary activities and support activities. Primary activities are ... Show

As mentioned, gaining competitive advantage requires that a firm s value chain be managed as a
system rather than a collection of separate parts. Reconfiguring the value chain by relocation,
reordering or even eliminating certain activities can often lead to a major improvement in
competitive position.
Upstream and Downstream
A firm s value chain links to the value chains of the upstream suppliers and downstream buyers.
The result is a larger stream of activities known as the value system. The development of a firm
specific competitive advantage not only depends on the firms value chain but also on the value
system of which the firm is a part. In most industries, it is rather unusual that a single company
performs all activities from product design, production of components, and final assembly to
delivery to the final user by itself. Most often, organisations are elements of a value system or
supply chain. Hence, value chain analysis should cover the whole value system in which the
organization operates.
Within the whole value system, there is only a certain value of profit margin available. This is the
difference of the final price the customer pays and the sum of all costs incurred with the production
and delivery of the product/service. It depends on the structure of the value system, how this margin
spreads across the suppliers, producers, distributors, customers, and other elements of the value
system. Each member of the system will use its

Sound Recording, Its History And Impact On Media In The 21st Century
On this essay I will try to show how Sound Recording impacts media in the 21st century. But in
order for me to do that I will need to explore the history of Sound Recording, which started in the
19th Century.
Before 1877 sound could be recorded but not played. That year Thomas Alva Edison invented the
talking tin foil, also known as the phonograph (voice writer), which enabled sound to be played
back (the first speech to be recorded and played back was the poem by Sarah Josepha Hale

waltzes, polkas, cakewalks, and so on. Yet the most famous leader of such a band, John Philip
Sousa, had doubts about the phonograph and publicly denounced recordings as inferior to live
music. Thus began a decades long campaign against recorded music, sponsored by a succession of
music critics, social theorists, and musicians.
As one of those social theorists has argued, the real significance of the early phonograph was that
it transformed the way people listened to music. Where once music was a unique, live
performance, experienced in a public place with a group, now it was heard privately in the home
and it was possible to hear the same performance over and over. According to this argument, the
listening experience was cheapened. Recording History.org(?)
Music was available almost anywhere, any time so people, in theory, would be exposed to a
wider selection of music, which, some people believed, would result in a social uplift process.
However in the United States and Europe most people kept buying popular music instead of what
reformers called good music. Good music started being advertised more heavily, by companies
like Victor, Columbia and Edison s, by offering a wider variety of good music in their catalogs.
Historians have also countered the argument that the phonograph degraded musical taste by noting

How Is The United States Dealing With The Exceeding Issues...
How is the United States dealing with the exceeding issues that it faces today? The U.S is in a
major economic debt, and most likely will never come out of it again. For example, take a look
at Kansas. Kansas is in a major crisis on adequate funding for education. Kansas Gov. Sam
Brownback, announced $44.5 million in education will be cut, to help patch a budget hole
blamed on deep income tax reductions he signed into law (Cooper). Over half of the schools in
Kansas, are now starting to feel the effect from the budget cuts on education funding. This is
becoming a major problem with schools, trying to figure out if they are going to be closed. For

For instance, the first year after cannabis was made legal in Colorado, the state had a major surplus
in revenues. Colorado reached over $50 million dollars in recreational cannabis sales in June...
half of that is from medical sales (Connell). Also, this gave Colorado an opportunity in rebuilding
their state, such as adding new schools. For example, Colorado schools have earned $13.6 million
in just the first five months of 2015, a sharp increase over 2014, when the tax generated a total of
$13.3 million for the whole year... (Connell). To sum this up, this is one way to raise revenues to
fund state education, and other shortages.
The Cannabis plant has been harvested around the world since ancient history. Dated 2300 B.C,

natural plants on our planet, usually found in tropical and humid parts of the world. Not to
mention, the soil and weather plays a major role in the development of cannabis. Furthermore, it

1.1 INTRODUCTION
Resistance training has become one of most popular physical activities for increasing muscular
strength, endurance, hypertrophy and muscular power (American College of Sports Medicine,
2002). Resistance training can be done either in the gymnasium or outside the gymnasium using the
weight, barbell, dumbbell, machine exercise, fit ball or body weight using the variables that needed.
When designing resistance training programs, many variables such as intensity, volume, frequency,
repetition, and velocity and rest interval must be considered as all these variable can be

Lewis (1995) stated in their study that, the 3 minute rest interval led to greater strength increase
because of the ability to maintain a higher training intensity and it demonstrated that greater
muscular recovery via longer rest interval between sets is the key to greater strength increases. If
the training goal is maximal strength development, sufficient of rest interval between sets must be

Prospero And Ariel
Prospero is a man with high social standing and power, which he uses to manipulate situations
into his favor. He is the Duke of Milan and has a spirit Ariel in his power. Ariel is forced to
remain with him until the tasks he requires are complete. This accounts for Ariel s present
servitude to Prospero, confirmed in the spirit s first utterance, All hail, great master! (1.2.189).
Ariel begins to come to the end of his expected time trapped as a servant. He begins to become
very excited at the thought of his future freedom, dreaming about his days away from his
enslavement. This feeling is seen when he says: Where the bee sucks, there suck I/In a cowslip s

Analysis Of Terence Hanbury White s The Once And Future King
Arthurian legend, with its round table, wizard, unfaithful queen, gallant knight, vengeful son, and
well intentioned king, has long been retold. While most authors employed the legend as a tapestry
to depict religious themes, The Once and Future King uniquely utilizes the tale to provide a
political critique of the author s modern day society. Terence Hanbury White embraced Malory s
version by creating four sequential books eventually published together under the title The Once
and Future King. Shifting away from the heavily Christian oriented tale, White uses the story of
King Arthuras platform to express his opinions on his own world during the mid 1900 s.
Focusing on the increasingly divided, violent attitudes of his generation, White imposes an
alternative vision of the utility of war. As he converges on and diverges from pacifistic
sentiment, White s first book, The Sword and the Stone and fourth book, The Candle in the Wind
illustrate political critique of both old and new society. The golden lines of The Sword in the
Stone and The Candle in the Wind earn their status from the way they encapsulate the
predominant pacifistic theme through symbolism. When young Arthur lives among geese, he
notices sentries keeping watch, and confused of their purpose, he asks a goose by the name of
Lyo Lyok if they are preparing for war amongst their flock. The disgusted goose responds, But what
creature could be so low as to go about in bands, to murder others of its own blood?

The Taliban began to take down the local warlords and feudal system and began to make a name

JULY, 2015
ABSTRACT
Due to the progressive development of human societies, their ecological and environmental
influence has been steadily increasing. The spatial expansion and higher population and housing
density of cities with its multiplier effect on land use and land cover change (LUCC) have been
recognized as the most important aspects of cities climate change which is triggered by the need for
urban services provision for the influx of human population. The shortages of housing in particular,
and other urban services provision is the fundamental cause and effects of development of illegal
and informal settlements. With analysis from empirical study in Eldoret town, the study discusses
the need for urban land regularization as a requisite to combat the driving forces for formation of
informal settlements and its impacts on cities climate. After presenting a series of concepts and
definitions related to urban land informality and illegality, standardization and tenure security from
the literature, we then discuss the data methods for the study. A detail of the research results
focusing on the nature and the impacts of informal and illegal settlement in both the city centre and
the hinterlands using the UN Habitat Slum indicators is presented. We conclude on implication

Giant Dreams, Midget Abilities Essay
David Sedaris writes about his experience taking guitar lessons in Giant Dreams, Midget Abilities
after his father decided that he and his younger sisters should start a family music group. However,
Sedaris has no desire to learn how to play guitar. His desire lies within singing jingles in the voice
of Billie Holiday. Sedaris desire to sing in the voice of Billie Holiday is probably closely related to
his sexual orientation, being gay, and his father s passion for jazzmusic.
There is an implication of femininity in Sedaris desire to mimic Billie Holiday s voice. Billie

he could express his feminine side comfortably. Unfortunately for him, being shot down by
Mancini caused him to dispose of such a dream.
Sedaris desire to sing like Billie Holiday can also be linked to his father s passion for jazz music.
His father loved jazz music almost to the point of obsessive compulsiveness, where he d sit
down and analyze each note and the timing of the jazz songs playing on his record player, and
although Sedaris claims to also love jazz, it wasn t enough to convince his father. Because it was
the music we d grown up with, I liked to think that my sisters and I had a genuine appreciation of
jazz. We preferred it over the music our friends were listening to, yet nothing we did or said
could convince my father of our devotion, (p. 17) writes Sedaris. Singing like Billie Holiday
might have been a way for Sedaris to be closer to his father, or at least allow the two of them to
bond in a way based on a common interest. Because of the controversy about homosexuals,
Sedaris probably wasn t open about his sexuality with his father, thus not feeling close to him. In
singing in the style of Billie Holiday, one could assume that it could be appreciated by any lover of
jazz, such as

Lab And Using The Result Of The Chemiluminescence Reaction
In this experiment, luminol was synthesized in the lab and used to demonstrate the result of the
chemiluminescence reaction.
Introduction:
In criminal shows shown on television, almost common in every show are investigators
inspecting crime scenes. Often when we see investigators looking for some form of a bodily fluid
at a crime scene, they spray some liquid and then use a black light over the area. If bodily fluids are
present, then the area appears to glow. The substance that they are spraying from the bottle is in fact
luminol, and the glow that is observed is from a chemiluminescent reaction. The blood illuminates
because of iron in the hemoglobin. Iron serves as the catalyst for the chemiluminescent reaction and
causes it to glow . Chemiluminescence is the release of light without heat due to a chemical reaction
. The release of light is from bonds that are broken, formed, or restructured2. A similar process,
known as fluorescence, also produces an illumination. This chemical process on the other hand,
gets its energy for light from the absorbance and release of light at different frequencies. .
Experimental Procedure: To a 5 mL conical vial with a spin vane, 5 nitro 2, 3 dihydrophthalazine 1,
4 dione (.151 grams) was added. Next, sodium hydroxide (2 mL, 3M) was added to the conical vial
and stirred until a reddish brown color was obtained. The addition of sodium hydrosulfite (.254

What Happens If You Expose Individuals To Web Pages Essay
What happens if you expose individuals to web pages for short periods of time? First
impressions of web pages are important to HCI developers as they have been shown as powerful
in a variety of contexts which include studying personal character attributes. There has been
multiple research and experiments where individuals were exposed to web pages for 50
milliseconds and how individuals formed an opinion of web pages. Notably the works of
Lindgaard et al 2006 this study is where the participants were exposed to a website twice when
viewing the website for only 50 milliseconds. The study showed that individuals can form a reliable

Furthermore, the research showed us that the relationship between visual appealing ratings fell
below par for twenty two participants for the first and second phase. There was a high
correlation between visual appeal and other characteristics such as the participants noted the web

correlation amongst visual appeal, simple complex and a reasonable correlation amongst
attractiveness and clear confusing judgements. By only viewing web pages for 50 milliseconds
individuals can form a first impression. The study of and analysing aesthetic scopes of web page
design and how design affects attractiveness is vital for HCI designers which will enable them to
implement and produce a suitable system for users which meets their requirements. It is imperative
that the HCI designer takes into consideration the necessary factors related to attractiveness and
unattractiveness of websites. It is imperative that the design of the website must include technical
and low level aspects making sure that it interacts with each other. There has been research relating
to design concepts. The work of Kim et el., 2003; Park et al., 2004 where they found out that design

Emotional Intelligence, By Daniel Goleman
In the book, Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman discusses what emotional intelligence is, how
it can be achieved, and why it can matter more than your IQ. Emotional intelligence, by his
definition, is the ability to recognize and understand both our personal emotions and the emotions
of others. This also includes the ability to manage our personal emotions. He introduces us to the
topic and the history of the brain, discusses the importance of it in our lives, marriage, and
business, and concludes by suggesting it should be developed during childhood when the brain is
still developing. However, this does not mean our emotional intelligenceskills cannot be sharpened
and taught during adulthood. According to Goleman, academic intelligence has little to do with
emotional life (Goleman, 34) and therefore does not correlate immensely with success. More
specifically, he says IQ contributes about 20% to the factors that determine life success, which
leaves 80% to other forces... ranging from social class to luck (34). Essentially, this means that
just because you are smart, it does not mean you will be successful. You must have social skills
and good standing. Studies have found that having a high IQ, but low emotional intelligence
results in a sort of detachment a lack of understanding and a lack of interest in the world. By
contrast, a low IQ and high emotional intelligence result in an outgoing and cheerful personality,
with a desire to live life and find meaning in

Pros And Cons Of Reid Technique
Manipulative Procedures Elicits False Confessions
In many cases innocent people are convicted while criminals are free on the streets committing
more crimes. In the 1950 s John Reid created the well known Reid Technique . The technique is a
process of accusatory interviewing that leads to a development of the truth. The technique is based
on science and psychology assumptions which point out anxiety and body language as an indicator
of deceitful. Over decades the American Police Forces are relying on Reid technique to make
people confess their crimes. The Reid technique is faulty because Police interrogators does long
hours of interrogations, it is associates anxiety as an indicator of lying, and produced false

Early in 2005, IBM Business Consulting Services released a survey that compiled in depth
interviews with more than 100 sales, marketing, and merchandising executives at over 20 consumer
products and retail companies. Only 9 percent of the retailers felt their suppliers had a good
understanding of their business objectives. The gist of the survey was that retailers felt the product
manufacturers have focused their efforts on the end users of the products (the consumers), without
giving as much priority to the needs of the other members of their distribution channels namely, the
retailers to whom they sell.1

Wholesalers
Wholesalers are intermediaries or middlemen who buy products from manufacturers and resell
them to the retailers. They take the same types of financial risks as retailers, since they purchase
the products (thereby taking legal responsibility for them), keep them in inventory until they are
resold to retailers, and may arrange for shipment to those retailers. Wholesalers can gather product
from around a country or region, or can buy foreign product lines by becoming importers. The term
wholesale is often used to describe discount retailers (as in
wholesale clubs ), but discounters are retailers, not technically wholesalers.
And in B2B channels, wholesalers may be called distributors.
Agents and Brokers
Agents (sometimes called brokers) are also intermediaries who work between suppliers and
retailers (or in B2B channels), but their agreements are different, in that they do not take ownership
of the products they sell. They are independent sales representatives who typically work on

The Spanish Colonization Of Latin America Essay
Because the Indians and Spanish lived in different areas in Latin America, the Indian culture and
society did not change significantly. Or did there society change? The Spanish colonizers had a
huge influence on the indigenous peoples of Mexico and Peru s, culture, language, traditions,
religion, even on their native food. One can say that this came into being shortly after Columbus
discovered the New World. The Spanish conquistadors, who sailed with Columbus to the New
World, were the first to leave their mark on the new territory. We still see some of these traditions in
today s society. The Spanish taught the Indians of their oral traditions of legends and jokes, music,
food, beliefs, and customs. The Indians even picked up on their native tongue, Spanish, and used it
as their own and still do to this day. There are many things in the Mexican culture which have
contributed to the shaping and molding of the modern Latino society, such as the Mexican history,
culture, language, religion, and traditions.
The Indigenous culture is not simply a blend of Mexico used to be, but the results of a unique
historical process that developed with an originality all its own. This culture was divided into many
different social classes after the Spanish took the reins. Like they started to develop a governmental
system for the Indigenous people and they started to tax them with the Bourbon Reforms. Many
Indigenous people hated the thought of this so they took matters in to their own

According to Dictionary.com duality means an instance of opposition or contrast between two
concepts or aspects of something. Robert Louis Stevenson states man is not truly one, but truly
two . What does he mean by this? For example, one day someone meets someone and that person
looks perfectly fine, but the other person does not really know how the other person feels, or
what the other person has gone threw. In reality that person has been living there whole life full
of hatred scared to hurt someone till one day someone bothers that person, and that person reacts
in a very bad manner because the other person was bothering the other person and does
something wrong that no one would expect from that person. Then no one can believe what that
person did is true because that person had never done anything bad in there whole life. This is
what duality means to robert louis stevenson. Everyone has to accept who they are what they do,
how they feel, and how they think. If someone has a bad side they should not hide it they should
just accept that part of them and learn to live with it because if they hide it and they try to put it
away and one day the bad side takes over the person and that person explodes in front of everyone
then every one would have a very different perspective of that person.. However if that person

Since the early 2000 s the unemployment rates of the United States have been constantly
changing. For most of this time unemployment rates were increasing at a quick pace as the
country was dealing with internal financial issues of its own. When people are out of work the
rates of depression and crime seem to skyrocket. This is due to the lack of funds coming into a
home which result in some less than admirable acts being committed. There are many causes of
unemployment and many effects that unemployment can have on not only our economy, but
our personal lives as well. There are three different kinds of unemployment that affect our
economy: frictional, cyclical and structural. Frictional unemployment occurs when there is a
time laps between being employed and looking for work. This term can also be referred to as
search employment because it is the time spent searching for a place of employment. One
example of this would be a student taking time off of work to finish college and get a 4 year
degree. Usually, it takes a lot of time and dedication to finish the last years of school, so some
students tend to go to school full time and work part time or not at all. This type of unemployment
is also classified as voluntary unemployment because this period of unemployment is at the
discretion of the person to some small degree. Secondly, there is cyclical unemployment which
changes depending on the business need; for example, workers are laid off when business is bad

These are the processed cheeses most commonly found in grocery stores and markets in the United
States. These cheeses do not require refrigeration and have a very long shelf life, sometimes going
several weeks or a few months without spoiling. American cheese and reduced fat cheeses are
common examples of processed, pre packed pasteurized cheeses. Typically processed cheeses are
required to have artificial flavoring added to them because during the pasteurization process, the
milk s natural flavors are removed, which reduces the natural flavor of the cheese itself. These
processed, pre packaged and pasteurized cheeses are also commonly referred to as club cheeses or
cold cut cheeses.
Pasteurized cheeses are the most common types of cheeses found in markets and grocery stores
and they are the only type of cheeses considered safe and approved for regular consumption by the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Pasteurized cheeses are also good for many recipes, whether
just as an appetizer or paired with crackers, fruit, and wine.

Mccandless, Mccandless And Thoreau
Similar to Thoreau, McCandless does not associate being in solitude to being lonesome.
Throughout his journey, McCandless avoids forming close bonds with others because it distracts
him from his final goal of independence and transcendentalism. This lack of intimate
relationships frees McCandless as seen through the journal entry he wrote before walking into
the Alaskan Bush. He writes proudly that for two years he has roamed with no company and no
comforts. He calls it, Ultimate freedom (Krakauer 163). The fact that he considers it more of a
freedom than a loss to live in solidarity shows that like Thoreau, McCandless does not feel lonely
when he is alone. According to his sister, Carine, even when he was younger, he was fine with
being alone. She said that although he had friends, he could easily entertain himself and never
seemed lonely when he was alone. Another instance in which McCandless s dissociation of solitude
and lonelinessshows is in a letter he writes to Ron Franz, a man he met near Salton City. In this
letter, he tells Franz to step outside his comfort zone and live a more adventurous life. Towards the
end of the letter, he states, You are wrong if you think Joy emanates only or principally from human
relationships, (Krakauer 57). This approach is how he is not lonely in solitude; he is capable of
finding joy in things other than human contact.
Thoreau lived as a minimalist to strip away the distractions of life. He wanted to live in the woods,

Capgras Delusion Essay
Introduction
The Capgras Delusion is one of the rarest and colorful syndromes in neurology. The patient fails to
recognise the faces of close acquaintances and calls them as an imposter . They claim that the
person looks like or is identical to someone they know, while continuing to believe that they are two
different individuals. The delusional belief is strongest when the putative imposter is present [2].
Capgras delusion is classified as a delusional misidentification syndrome, a class of beliefs where
the patients have delusional beliefs that involves misidentification of people, places or objects.
The delusion is mostly common in patients diagnosed with neurodegenerative diseases; such as
Alzheimer s disease (2% 30%) [8], ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adapted from Ellis et al. (1997), Proc. R. Soc. B.
This theory fails to answer two major questions. First, why is the phenomenon specific to close
relatives? One possibility, as suggested by Ramachandran el al., is that only with parents or a
spouse does one seek emotional arousal thus its absence leads to a confabulatory delusion that one
s parent is an imposter. With an emotionally neutral person on the other hand, one does not expect
such arousal, and therefore there is no incentive for generating a delusion. The second major
question is why the lack of emotional arousal can have such drastic delusions? Why does the
patient not accept the fact that the loved one is not an imposter but can no longer feel the warmth?
There can be some extra lesions, perhaps in the right frontal cortex, which is responsible for
generating such an extreme delusion. The left hemisphere seeks to preserve consistency by
explaining for any discrepancies, whereas there may be a global consistency checking mechanism
in the right hemisphere which serves to counter balance this tendency (Ramachandran 1995).
Damage to such a mechanism due to a right hemisphere stroke may lead to Capgras Delusion,
where one needs a conjugation of two lesions: one which affects the global consistency checking
mechanism in the right hemisphere and the other affecting the consistency.

The Lady s Dressing Room By Jonathan Swift
Part 1: The Lady s Dressing Room
In the poem, The Lady s Dressing Room, the author Jonathan Swift ridicules both genders for
adhering to a false sense of gender ideals set by society. He does this by looking at the poem
through a male perspective, this is particularly useful as it illustrates how men want to view
women but neglect that their own activities are equally as stereotypical. The societal ideals society
places on women is that they are clean and they all look and act in a similar manner to a goddess.
Strephon realizes this stereotype is not completely true as he rummages through Celia s belongings.
Jonathan Swift liberates men from societal norms as they see women as humans, and not goddesses.
This poem shows the gender ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, most people lack some of the lenses about the actual story. Over the years the story has
been distorted by society to enforce stereotypes. Everyone knows that Pandora opens a box and
unleashes all the evils of the world, proving women are tempted easily and only do bad for
society if given power. In the actual Greek myth, Pandora is given the box as a curse on her
family. Pandora s brother in law, decides to go against the will of The Olympian Gods, thus
bringing upon this punishment to Pandora. The story has been shaped to pin the entirety of the
blame on women to enforce the stereotype. Jonathan Swift shows how society loses certain lenses
and shape their stories to undermine women.
Jonathan Swift liberates men from the idea that all women are goddesses, he does this to make it
evident that women are humans and should not be held in such high regard. In the last stanza it is
evident that men should see the reality behind the beauty of women. This can be seen through the
reference to Aphrodite, it says
I pity wretched Stephon blind, to all the charms of Female kind; Should I the Queen of Love
refuse, because she rose from stinking Ooze?
The first two lines show how The Queen of Love places a curse on men, so that they see all women
are disgusting. This curse was falsely put on Strephon as hr adheres to societal norms, men
generally thought that women and the word disgusting are antonyms. From the

Pericles Foils
Throughout Pericles, Prince of Tyre, there exists a blatant dichotomy between good and evil. The
play lacks moral ambiguity within many of the central characters. One can recognize this
dichotomy by analyzing the utilization of foils in Pericles. Pericles incorporates obviously corrupt
characters that contrast with virtuous counterparts. For instance, in two analogous instances
Pericles travels to a new city, attempting to court a princess. The first princess, King Antiochus
daughter, acts as a foil to Thaisa, the second princess. Thaisa is a virgin with a healthy relationship
with her father, while Antiochus daughter engages in an incestuous affair with her own father.
Pericles finds no difficulty choosing which princess to engage just as the audience has no difficulty
passing judgment upon the characters.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Antiochus, a corrupt and powerful tyrant, mounts the heads of his daughter s suitors upon a wall as
he engages in an incestuous relationship with his daughter. As is apparent, Shakespeare bestows
absolutely no redeeming qualities to King Antiochus. King Simonides, on the other hand, foils
Antiochus as a wise, affable ruler. For example, he allows Pericles to participate in the tournament
despite his grimy appearance, Opinion s but a fool, that makes we scan The outward habit by the
inward man. (2.2.55 56) Pericles, who gives little praise throughout the play, declares upon hearing
of Simonides death, Heaven make a star of him.

The Importance Of Chinese Culture
The country I would like to teach in would be in China, specifically Shenzhen. Chinese culture is
vast and unique and has been changed through many factors throughout history. Mainland China is
a beautiful place right next to to the equally beautiful Hong Kong. Shenzhen itself has been
influenced by western culture just like Hong Konghas, but with its roots in the mainland, it still
maintains its policies and traditions. It s culture can be considered a hybrid of both Mainland and
Hong Kong Chinadue to proximity.
In China, there s the culture you see on the surface and the culture you see below the surface.
There are many real world lifestyle differences that can be perceived and even more that must be
experienced. When moving to China, you will first encounter surface level cultural differences,
some of which being population density and dress expectations. Population in China is vastly
different and much denser than the U.S. or most places in the world for that matter. China has
over 160 cities with a population of over 1 million as stated by the University of Missouri,
Kansas City. In China, dressing is much different as well, clothing styles that would be considered
the norm in America can be considered taboo in China. In the U.S. showing some skin is perfectly
acceptable due to the general agreement body confidence is good. But if you wear something
revealing (e.g. a crop top), it comes with a very negative connotation, people asssuming your in a

There are many characters involved in The Jungle Books, by Rudyard Kipling, but Mowgli, the
man cub, holds a special role throughout all of the stories. As we start out reading, he is described
as a naked brown baby who could just walk. . . (Kipling, Mowgli s Brothers 38). Therefore, he has
room to grow and change as we read on. Over the course of three significant stories, we find
Mowglinot only growing up but also learning the Laws of the Jungle from Baloo, changing his

Medea And Oedipus Comparison Essay

Oedipus The King Vs Medea
Now as we keep our watch and wait the final day, count no man happy till he dies, free of pain at
last (Sophocles 134). This particular quote encompasses the idea of Oedipus The King written by
Sophocles, a play that tells the story of the new reigning king of Thebes. Through fate, Oedipus
met his end by blinding himself all due to the fact that he would not let go of the past. This
quote also applies to Medea by Euripides, a play about a woman named Medea, who is driven to
kill her kids because of a betrayal of her husband, Jason. The main similarities between these two
plays are that they are both based on Greek Mythology, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I find that there is an equal amount of similarities and differences within the text of the play.
Starting with Oedipus, we see that he is a very sympathetic leader who always wants to provide
a personal connection with that of his community. He is fighting so hard to remove the plague
that is stricken over his city of Thebes. This specifically tells us about what type of character
Oedipus is as a person and not only that but we see him portrayed as a victim of fate throughout
the entire play. Main reason for that is because he was bound by the ankles as a child. Some
examples that support Oedipus kind moral are as follows, But we do rate you first of men, both
in the common crises of our lives and face to face encounters with the gods...We taught you
nothing, no skill, no extra knowledge, still you triumphed... and Speak out, speak to us all. I
grieve for these, my people, far more than I fear for my own life (Sophocles 94 96). These quotes
show how respected Oedipus is within his community and that he can relate to them on a personal
and spiritual level and not just governmental. Truly fate is what caused Oedipus to fall greatly but
it does not lesson his character at all because he accepts punishment by blinding

World War II
According to (Television History The First 75 Years), World War II halted nearly all television
broadcasting worldwide. There are some notable exceptions which will be covered here in this
special section.
The time period after World War II is considered the last and final birth of television. Families
had accumulated savings during the war years to purchase homes, cars and other luxuries denied
them during the war. Television sets were soon added to the must have list. The explosion of sets
into the American marketplace occurred in 1948 1949. A few years later, the post war sales boom
for England followed. (Television History The First 75 Years)
During this period was an exciting and flower time period for television. In the USA, B W
television exploded onto the scene at the beginning of the decade, mid decade saw electronic color
television and remote controls launched, and at the end of the decade the public witnessed some
interesting styling changes and the introduction of transistorized television. The child was
becoming an adolescent. (Television History The First 75 Years)

Four Functions Of Myth
The Iroquois Constitution was an agreement between the Five Nations of the Iroquois with many
rules that all nations abided by. Under the constitution, the Five Nations agreed to three main
principals: peace, equity and justice. These nations passed on these agreements and rules through
oral history and shared mythologies. In studying myths and religions around the world, Joseph
Campbellrecognized four functions of myth: mystical, cosmological, sociological, and
psychological. Campbell noticed that these functions could be found in most explorer stories and
origin stories throughout various cultures and societies. The rules my family has established in my
household are similar to the Iroquois Constitution, Campbell s functions of myth, and can be an
inspiration for when I become a parent.
My house rules are similar to the Iroquois Constitution in many ways. First, they are similar
because by abiding to the house rules, my parents and I are in an agreement which is the basic
idea of the Iroquois Constitution. Second, by not fighting my sister when we are in the house, we
are agreeing to have peace. Both my sister and I are considered equals in the house with equal
expectations for justice. Arthur C. Parker, the author who translated The Iroquois Constitution into
print form stated, If any man or any nation outside the Five Nations shall obey the laws of the
Great Peace and make known their disposition (Parker, 28). When people of The Five Nations sit

How Mindfulness Can Change Your Life
How Mindfulness Can Change Your Life
Adopted as the latest craze, mindfulness is more than just a passing fad. This meditation technique
stretches back thousands of years in Eastern cultures. While it was once a technique used primarily
by Buddhist monks, modern researchers have discovered some of the immense benefits of being
mindful in every day life.
How Mindfulness Works
At its heart, mindfulness is just a way to pay closer attention to everything that is going on. It
focuses on rooting yourself in the present to notice what is really happening within your mind and
body. You begin to notice the things that are going on around you without judging what is going
on. The flowers grow, your boss gives you a new project and cars drive by just because that is
what they do. With this mind set, you stop judging and are able to just exist within the moment.
Instead of allowing yourself to go into autopilot, you are able to observe your life at a distance.

In 2011, Harvard University conducted a study. In the trial, the participants had to carry out a
mindfulness program for eight weeks. During this time, the density of the gray matter in their
minds actually increased. In total, there were eight different regions of the mind that were affected.
With a mindfulness practice, the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is improved, which allows for
greater self regulation, less impulsiveness and better focus. The gray matter in the hippocampus
increases. Since the hippocampus is responsible for emotion, memories, the limbic system and
cortisol, changes in this section of the brain can reduce post traumatic stress disorder, depression
and chronic stress. Interestingly, individuals with low gray matter in the hippocampus are more
likely to have PTSD or depression. Due to this, mindfulness can actually reduce the impact or treat
these mental

and dark truths of Big Tobacco. The film follows Nick Naylor, head lobbyist for Big Tobacco and
his demise through his endorsement for cigarettes. Throughout the movie Nick Naylor showcases
his persuasiveness in almost every scene. In a scene with his son Joey, Naylor is asked Why is the
American government the best government in the world? After pointing out the bias within the
question Naylor went on to tell his son that the question could be answered in many ways. Naylor

he tells the audience that It s in our (Big Tobacco) best interests to keep Robin alive and smoking,
(Reitman, 2006). and he adds that, The anti smoking people want Robin to die. so that their
budget can go up (Reitman, 2006). Nick ends the scene by telling the audience that Big Tobacco
is launching a 50 million dollar campaign to persuade kids not to smoke and the crowd goes
wild. This is the first time we get to see Nick s skill. Although, he has not acknowledged the
mortality caused by cigarettes he successfully uses pathos to tap into the audience s emotions.
Initially, when the crowds see the sick boy they look at Naylor to blame because he endorses the
deadly sticks, but after Nick proves to them that it is in Big Tobacco s best interest that Robin
lives because they would lose a customer the audience is swayed and forgets that the reason
Robin is dying is because of Big Tobacco. In this case Naylor uses pathos to redirect the audience
s anger at Ron Goody. During Naylor s interview with Heather Holloway when asked about why
he does his job he confesses that he does it for the mortgage. Naylor doesn t really pose an

Suspense In The Others Essay
Populating the world of popular literature in today s society, a plethora of ghost stories of haunted
houses exist. Though what truly captures the mind of the human population about haunted houses
cannot be explained or identified, the occurrence is definitely a popular subject. Demonstrating this,
statistics suggest that 1,200 haunted houses currently exist in the United States to entertain the
population. Whether it be storytelling, movies, or parties, the idea of spirits haunting people proves
to be one of the most successful forms of entertainment. However, few of those aforementioned
stories explore the realm of the perspective of the dead in occurrences of haunting. Directed by

One reason why the plot is able to effectively create suspense is through utilizing foreshadowing.
For example, the film opens with Grace, the mother, screaming as Grace wakes up,
foreshadowing fear in the movie. In addition, the dialogue plays a role in foreshadowing as well,
such the repeated allusions to the day [Grace] went mad . As Grace slowly uncovers clues as to
what is going on in the house, the repeated sightings of doors being unlocked and sounds being
made keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Specifically, the incident when Grace hears piano
music being played in the middle of the night fully cements in the audience s mind that there are
ghosts without revealing the true identity or purpose of the ghosts, adding suspense rather than
answering questions. However, when it is revealed that Grace, Anne, and Nicholas are, in fact,
ghosts and the other family is alive provides a tie in to all of the suspense. Suddenly, even the
smallest detail, such as descriptions of the old lady who can connect with spirits, comes to the
audience s mind to add validity to the twist. All in all, the strange occurrences in the house that take
place in the plot continually generate suspense throughout the

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Political Campaign Spending In 2012 election, there were huge amounts of money going into political campaign spending. Corporations were donating to Mitt Romney s campaign and trying to denounce Obama s spot. In the article Citizens United and the Corporate Court by Jamie Raskin, she says that there are 844 Super PAC s and countless 501(c) vehicles; experts say billions of dollars, much of it untraceable, will flood the 2012 election (Raskin 20). She explains that billions and billions of dollars are spent in just wining a presidential campaign which is being untraceable. Lots and lots of Super PAC s are taking advantage of the system and donating all this money to a presidential campaign, which in return, the president will sponsor or vote on a certain bill which ... • 3. Analyzing Participants Performance, Self Efficacy And... Methods Participants The sample was made up of 49 male and 16 female participants competing in local golf events in the United States (n = 29), United Arabic Emirates (n =12), Italy (n = 9), Germany (n = 6), Scotland (n = 5), Spain (n = 2), Portugal (n = 1) and Sweden (n = 1). Their mean handicap was 2.54 (SD 8.85) with 13 (SD 8.25) years of mean playing experience. Measures In order to gather the data needed to analyse participants performance, self efficacy and related attributions, Coffee and Rees (2008b) CSGU questionnaire was used: a 16 item measure which assesses the four attribution dimensions of controllability, stability, globality and universality. Under the CSGU questionnaire, each individual dimension is assessed with a four item subscale. Firstly, participants were asked to note the main reason for their performance, stated in an open end question. Following this, questions were asked which measured attribution dimensions in relation to the previous statement. These questions could be answered on a scale from 1 (not at all) to 5 (completely) and each began with asking In general, to what extent is your reason something that... . Higher scores refer to more controllable, stable (except for the item fluctuates across performances , which was reverse scored), global and universal attributions. • 4. Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry Of The Children Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry of the Children Like many writers in the Victorian Age, Elizabeth Barrett Browning used her poetry as a platform to reach a larger audience to bring awareness to contemporary social issues (Greenblatt, Elizabeth Barrett Browning pp. 1,123). Common issues that were written about during the Victorian Age included inequality between men and women, child labor and the American abolitionist movement (1,123). According to the first footnote referenced in her poem The Cry of the Children , Barrett Browning composed this literary piece in reaction to a report distributed by a parliamentary commission following a government investigation that had uncovered the mistreatment of child workers; and to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later in the poem, the poet suggested that the children should spend time picking flowers in a meadow (57 59), however, the children implied that they would not know the difference between a cowslip and a weed, Are your cowslips of the meadows / Like our weeds anear the mine? [ ] (61 62). Barrett Browning brought awareness to the fact that children who were working in factories or mining for coal had no time to play, relax or to just be kids. The loss of play time for these employed children was one of the issues Barrett Browning stressed in her poem; whereas, other problems that these children encountered included exhaustion and facing hazards daily. She conveyed to her readers how tired the children were and how little energy they possessed (65 71); If we cared for any meadows, it were merely / To drop down in them and sleep (67 68). She wrote about the exhaustion they experienced and its consequences for the children, Our knees tremble sorely in the stooping / We fall upon our faces, trying to go (69 70). She informed her audience of the dangers and difficulties that the adolescents experienced each day. The children were required to move heavy loads, For, all day, we drag our burden tiring (73). • 5. Schick Razors Advertisement Analysis Essay In a Game Informer magazine, I have found an advertisement for a Schick razor. The line of pictures of bald men caught my eye, so I had to take a minute to see what this advertisement promotes. Schick razors continue to rise as one of the most popular brands of razors for men and women. You can find their advertisements virtually anywhere. This particular advertisement is for a newly designed razorwith a curved front, making it easier to get a close shave. Schick targets the male populations with this advertisement. This advertisement has two pictures. The first shows four large, boldly framed pictures of professionally dressed, aged bald men hanging on the wall. Underneath of these pictures, three younger men set in white chairs lined up against the same wall, fidgeting with things. Another young man sits in a chair facing to the side, separated from the others by an end table, looking up at the pictures hanging on the wall. All the young men look sharply dressed and all have full heads of styled hair. In the top corner, it says interview starts in 15 minutes . The second picture shows the same scene, except the man sitting in the chair facing to the side, has shaved all his hair off. Him and an older bald gentleman, who has just entered the room to call someone back for an interview, exchange... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The razor, not the main focus, got overlooked easily when I first viewed the ad. The razor has a unique design with its curved front, so I think that it should have taken center stage in the advertisement, since the razor will sell and not the men. I remained too focused on looking at the men, trying to figure out why the all sat there and why one guy had a bald head so quickly so I didn t even see the razor. I had to look a little to finally realize what the advertisement promoted. If I plan to buy something based off an advertisement, I do not want to have to solve a puzzle to know what they plan to ... • 6. Kenyan Culture Vs American Culture Going outside of one s own culture can be very eye opening to a person. Although it is sometimes difficult to see through the perspective of someone else, it is vital in being able to communicate with people around the world. I have taken two mission trips to Kenya, Africa during the summer with my church group. Because of this trip, I became more aware of the differences there were in cultureand just how many cultures I was missing out on. I believe that all cultures should become more aware of at least one other culture to compare and contrast the two because each culture could learn something from another. I have found the most important characteristics of this culture and would like to share the interests that this culture has brought to my attention. Good Leadership One of the things that the Kenyan culture values is good leadership among their people. Leadership is an important role because the people in charge are the ones who come up with the decisions for all their people. Kenya does not have the type of government that the United States has so they tend to make their own rules when it comes to their culture groups. There are many characteristics that are involved with being a leader such as social class, age, and how they would be able to handle hard times, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People often view Africa as a place to hunt for big, wild animals in their natural habitats. Although this is a common hobby for people to do in Kenya, it is not seen as such to the natives. They believe that their animals are prized possessions, whether that be a family trading goats and sheep, or leaving the wild animals alone in their homes. Zebras, for example, walk around in Kenya as much as cows walk around in open fields in the United States. • 7. Ecological Changes In Black-Tailed Prairie Dog Populations... Introduction: Although Colorado s growing population may be beneficial for the economy and social standings in our country, it poses some ecological concerns. According to the Colorado State Demography Office, Colorado s population has grown by nearly 75% since 1985 (Figure 1). In fact, Larimer County s population has doubled in that same time period. It has become evident that changes in Colorado s landscape have been altered due to this population boom. It is within our best interest to evaluate the ecological concerns associated with such anthropogenic disturbances, specifically along the Front Range of Larimer County. By observing and sampling areas where black tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys ludovicianus) have settled, and where they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They have traditionally been viewed as competitors with cattle for rangeland resources, so eradication programs have reduced populations to less than two percent of those several decades ago (Whicker and Detling 1988). The Colorado Parks and Wildlife have now deemed this keystone species as a species of concern due to sylvatic plague, direct loss of habitat to urban/suburban development, habitat fragmentation, conversion of habitat to agricultural uses, systematic poisoning, recreational shooting, and inadequate regulatory mechanisms. Our biggest concerns are focused on habitat loss and fragmentation and systematic poisoning and how they connect to Colorado s growth in population. The grasslands along the Front Range are primarily inhabited by native grasses including, needle and thread grass (Stipa comata) and blue gramma grass (Bouteloua gracilis), as part of the primary producers of the ecosystem. In areas where prairie dogs are present, native grass populations decline at a rather quick rate and are often low in richness, evenness, and diversity (Beals et al. 2014). We will look at how this affects the rest of the grassland ecosystem and changes it where trophic efficiency is concerned. Prairie dogs are useful for trophic efficiency because they help maintain the growth of primary producers in the grasslands. Zinc phosphide rodenticide is an inorganic pesticide that ... • 8. Appreciation and Value for Life in Richard Wilbur s Poem... In humanity, one chooses to spend the most amount of time doing what they love in order to result in a satisfying and happily lived existence. Richard Wilbur expresses his appreciation and value of life throughout the poem, A Late Aubade . This poem is influenced and based off of Wilbur s strong relationship with his devoted wife. It emphasizes throughout detailed imagery how one must enjoy the moments they have and can share with their loved one. The existence of an individual is not about wasting time by being out and completing unnecessary jobs, it s about spending time doing what one loves to do. Wilbur is convincing his wife to not go about on her womanly daily activities; he wants her to stay and to take advantage of the few valuable moments life offers for them to be together. Throughout A Late Aubade , Wilbur stresses by applying descriptive language that in life, one must not waste any precious time and should rather focus on what they are passionate about. Richard Wilbur was born in New York City on March 1rst in 1921. He contained a strong literary background as he had come from a family of several journalists. Wilbur s father was a painter and as he recorded experiences of life through his paintings, Wilbur became inspired to do this through poetry. As he came from a Christian religious background, this was a great influence to him as he alludes to many Christian references throughout his works. He and his middle class family had moved to North Caldwell, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Iago Is Not Evil To be evil, villainous or Satan like, is to state that one does hurtful things to other citizens for the pure enjoyment of themselves. Hitler, Stalin and Napoleon are all leaders, who undoubtedly can be stated as evil. In William Shakespeare s tragedy Othello, the character Iago is considered evil. It is argued though that he is not evil, just simply a human. Iagothroughout the play becomes insecure over his decline in power leading him to become jealous and get revenge on those who contributed to this feeling of self doubt. Iago is well aware of the emotions he has and though he does not admit to anyone he is feeling this way, he knows it personally. It is quite apparent to the audience, that Iago has once before felt jealous; Oh, beware, my lord, of jealousy!/It is the green eyed monster which doth mock/The meat it feeds on (III.iii.165 167). Iago s previous jealousy does not show that he is evil or weak but rather that Iago is the only man throughout Othello to reveal his truly humanistic emotions. Iago knows about the `green eyed monster of jealous` and does not freat to speak of it knowing it is human to be jealous and that is exactly what he is. By studying Shakespeare`s depiction of Iago, it can be concluded that if Iago felt as if being jealous was not human, he would not warn others of it and rather let them deal with it themselves. The way Iago thinks, provides proof to the audience that Iago neither is villainous or evil but just a human living in a society where being powerful is important, thus, bringing ... • 12. Essay On Crowd Out Article Assessment Analyzing Two Peer Reviewed Journal Articles on the Implications of Medicaid Expansion on Rates of Crowd Out. The expansion of Medicaid in the United States has often been denounced due to fear of crowd out. Crowd out studies have been investigated since the 1990s. Data vary from study to study with some showing no significant evidence of crowd out to some showing up to 50% (Muhlestein, 2013). Crowd out occurs when people choose to drop their private insurance plan in favor of enrolling in the public plan. It can also occur if public program members refuse to use private plans available or if an employer reduces coverage based on public program availability. Rates of crowd out are subject to change due to the changing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose of this was to look at proportions of children who have private insurance within the Medicaid eligibility threshold. After conducting the study, researchers found significant differences in crowd out levels between states with varying eligibility thresholds. Due to the varying levels of crowd out found in the analysis, researchers also stated that studies of national crowd out rates should be disregarded. It was found that 3% of Medicaid eligible children in families with income 250% of Federal Poverty Level (FPL) and 6% of those in Medicaid eligible families with income 200% of FPL were found to be subject to crowd out. It was found that no children in families with income 300% of FPL would be crowded out. The RD method does not allow an overall crowd out estimate, so it is limited to localized estimates based on the eligibility threshold. Therefore, it often misses those beyond the eligibility threshold who are crowded out. However, it allows for steady enrollment analysis long after the expansion occurs. Evidence of significant crowd out is likely influenced by differing methods of managing the Medicaid population and policies put in place to prevent crowd out. It was also found that crowd out effects decrease as the eligibility threshold increases because wealthier families within the range of eligibility for Medicaid are less likely to switch from private to public ... To me wind farms are both good and bad for the community but mostly bad because of the validity and persuasion of this essay. I am in agreement with H. Sterling Burnett on many of his points. One of the points that I see to be wrong would be that the wind farms don t generate enough energy. To me I think any source of energy is better than none and even though the energy isn t always being produced always it still will have a big effect on the environment when it is. Wind energy could have tremendous benefits and could be a fast growing energy source that will help the world. Besides the fact that I think the energy is good, I agree that these types of energy take up many acres to produce enough energy and I believe it is harming specific habitats because of these power plants being built. The author is very specific when talking about certain things in his passage and one of these would be the harm being done to birds and bats. Many statistics are stated in the few paragraphs proving how many birds are being killed each year, and not just in the United States. Also in, Tariff, and Spain many birds have been killed by wind turbine farms. Results are discussed on how lawsuits are going to be made and how expansion of the farms is going to be limited. It includes the trimerization of death factors like CD95/Fas/APO 1 or TNF receptor one which initiates caspase 8, which initiates the apoptotic machinery. The second pathway is the intrinsic pathway. This pathway involves the p53 gene and is subsequently of more concern. The p53 gene initiates the arrival of cytochrome C from the mitochondrial intermembrane space into the cytosol. The cytochrome C in the presence of ATP reasons the oligomerization and activation of Apaf 1 and caspase 9 as per Schuler, (2000). Therefore, then prompt caspase three and other effector caspases that cause apoptosis. Subsequently subjecting p53 to gene treatment might be of enormous importance in the battle against leukemia. For this purpose, Porter identified a range of interrelated generic activities common to a wide range of firms. The resulting model is known as the value chain. According to Porter (1985), Competitive Advantage arises out of the way firms organise and arrange discrete activities . As mentioned, gaining competitive advantage requires that a firm s value chain be managed as a system rather than a collection of separate parts. Reconfiguring the value chain by relocation, reordering or even eliminating certain activities can often lead to a major improvement in competitive position. Upstream and Downstream A firm s value chain links to the value chains of the upstream suppliers and downstream buyers. The result is a larger stream of activities known as the value system. The development of a firm specific competitive advantage not only depends on the firms value chain but also on the value system of which the firm is a part. In most industries, it is rather unusual that a single company performs all activities from product design, production of components, and final assembly to delivery to the final user by itself. Most often, organisations are elements of a value system or supply chain. Hence, value chain analysis should cover the whole value system in which the organization operates. Within the whole value system, there is only a certain value of profit margin available. This is the difference of the final price the customer pays and the sum of all costs incurred with the production and delivery of the product/service. That year Thomas Alva Edison invented the talking tin foil, also known as the phonograph (voice writer), which enabled sound to be played back (the first speech to be recorded and played back was the poem by Sarah Josepha Hale (1830) Mary had a little lamb , which, unfortunately was not preserved, but in 1927, Edison re enacted the recording for Fox Movietone news. Thus began a decades long campaign against recorded music, sponsored by a succession of music critics, social theorists, and musicians. As one of those social theorists has argued, the real significance of the early phonograph was that it transformed the way people listened to music. Where once music was a unique, live performance, experienced in a public place with a group, now it was heard privately in the home and it was possible to hear the same performance over and over. According to this argument, the listening experience was cheapened. Recording History.org(?) Music was available almost anywhere, any time so people, in theory, would be exposed to a wider selection of music, which, some people believed, would result in a social uplift process. However in the United States and Europe most people kept buying popular music instead of what reformers called good music. Good music started being advertised more heavily, by companies like Victor, Columbia and Edison s, by offering a wider variety of good music in their catalogs. • 25. Analysis Of Terence Hanbury White s The Once And Future King Arthurian legend, with its round table, wizard, unfaithful queen, gallant knight, vengeful son, and well intentioned king, has long been retold. While most authors employed the legend as a tapestry to depict religious themes, The Once and Future King uniquely utilizes the tale to provide a political critique of the author s modern day society. Terence Hanbury White embraced Malory s version by creating four sequential books eventually published together under the title The Once and Future King. Shifting away from the heavily Christian oriented tale, White uses the story of King Arthuras platform to express his opinions on his own world during the mid 1900 s. Focusing on the increasingly divided, violent attitudes of his generation, White imposes an alternative vision of the utility of war. As he converges on and diverges from pacifistic sentiment, White s first book, The Sword and the Stone and fourth book, The Candle in the Wind illustrate political critique of both old and new society. The golden lines of The Sword in the Stone and The Candle in the Wind earn their status from the way they encapsulate the predominant pacifistic theme through symbolism. When young Arthur lives among geese, he notices sentries keeping watch, and confused of their purpose, he asks a goose by the name of Lyo Lyok if they are preparing for war amongst their flock. The spatial expansion and higher population and housing density of cities with its multiplier effect on land use and land cover change (LUCC) have been recognized as the most important aspects of cities climate change which is triggered by the need for urban services provision for the influx of human population. The shortages of housing in particular, and other urban services provision is the fundamental cause and effects of development of illegal and informal settlements. With analysis from empirical study in Eldoret town, the study discusses the need for urban land regularization as a requisite to combat the driving forces for formation of informal settlements and its impacts on cities climate. After presenting a series of concepts and definitions related to urban land informality and illegality, standardization and tenure security from the literature, we then discuss the data methods for the study. A detail of the research results focusing on the nature and the impacts of informal and illegal settlement in both the city centre and the hinterlands using the UN Habitat Slum indicators is presented. The substance that they are spraying from the bottle is in fact luminol, and the glow that is observed is from a chemiluminescent reaction. The blood illuminates because of iron in the hemoglobin. Iron serves as the catalyst for the chemiluminescent reaction and causes it to glow . Chemiluminescence is the release of light without heat due to a chemical reaction . The release of light is from bonds that are broken, formed, or restructured2. A similar process, known as fluorescence, also produces an illumination. This chemical process on the other hand, gets its energy for light from the absorbance and release of light at different frequencies. . • 30. What Happens If You Expose Individuals To Web Pages Essay What happens if you expose individuals to web pages for short periods of time? First impressions of web pages are important to HCI developers as they have been shown as powerful in a variety of contexts which include studying personal character attributes. There has been multiple research and experiments where individuals were exposed to web pages for 50 milliseconds and how individuals formed an opinion of web pages. Notably the works of Lindgaard et al 2006 this study is where the participants were exposed to a website twice when viewing the website for only 50 milliseconds. The study showed that individuals can form a reliable first impression whilst only viewing the website for 50 milliseconds. Within the second study conducted by... However, there was a rather low correlation amongst visual appeal, simple complex and a reasonable correlation amongst attractiveness and clear confusing judgements. By only viewing web pages for 50 milliseconds individuals can form a first impression. The study of and analysing aesthetic scopes of web page design and how design affects attractiveness is vital for HCI designers which will enable them to implement and produce a suitable system for users which meets their requirements. It is imperative that the HCI designer takes into consideration the necessary factors related to attractiveness and unattractiveness of websites. It is imperative that the design of the website must include technical and low level aspects making sure that it interacts with each other. There has been research relating to design concepts. • 31. Emotional Intelligence, By Daniel Goleman In the book, Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman discusses what emotional intelligence is, how it can be achieved, and why it can matter more than your IQ. Emotional intelligence, by his definition, is the ability to recognize and understand both our personal emotions and the emotions of others. This also includes the ability to manage our personal emotions. He introduces us to the topic and the history of the brain, discusses the importance of it in our lives, marriage, and business, and concludes by suggesting it should be developed during childhood when the brain is still developing. However, this does not mean our emotional intelligenceskills cannot be sharpened and taught during adulthood. According to Goleman, academic intelligence has little to do with emotional life (Goleman, 34) and therefore does not correlate immensely with success. More specifically, he says IQ contributes about 20% to the factors that determine life success, which leaves 80% to other forces... ranging from social class to luck (34). Essentially, this means that just because you are smart, it does not mean you will be successful. You must have social skills and good standing. Studies have found that having a high IQ, but low emotional intelligence results in a sort of detachment a lack of understanding and a lack of interest in the world. By contrast, a low IQ and high emotional intelligence result in an outgoing and cheerful personality, with a desire to live life and find meaning in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Only 9 percent of the retailers felt their suppliers had a good understanding of their business objectives. Or did there society change? The Spanish colonizers had a huge influence on the indigenous peoples of Mexico and Peru s, culture, language, traditions, religion, even on their native food. One can say that this came into being shortly after Columbus discovered the New World. The Spanish conquistadors, who sailed with Columbus to the New World, were the first to leave their mark on the new territory. We still see some of these traditions in today s society. The Spanish taught the Indians of their oral traditions of legends and jokes, music, food, beliefs, and customs. The Indians even picked up on their native tongue, Spanish, and used it as their own and still do to this day. There are many things in the Mexican culture which have contributed to the shaping and molding of the modern Latino society, such as the Mexican history, culture, language, religion, and traditions. The Indigenous culture is not simply a blend of Mexico used to be, but the results of a unique historical process that developed with an originality all its own. This culture was divided into many different social classes after the Spanish took the reins. • 39. Unemployment Rate Of The United States Since the early 2000 s the unemployment rates of the United States have been constantly changing. For most of this time unemployment rates were increasing at a quick pace as the country was dealing with internal financial issues of its own. When people are out of work the rates of depression and crime seem to skyrocket. This is due to the lack of funds coming into a home which result in some less than admirable acts being committed. There are many causes of unemployment and many effects that unemployment can have on not only our economy, but our personal lives as well. There are three different kinds of unemployment that affect our economy: frictional, cyclical and structural. Frictional unemployment occurs when there is a time laps between being employed and looking for work. This term can also be referred to as search employment because it is the time spent searching for a place of employment. One example of this would be a student taking time off of work to finish college and get a 4 year degree. Usually, it takes a lot of time and dedication to finish the last years of school, so some students tend to go to school full time and work part time or not at all. This type of unemployment is also classified as voluntary unemployment because this period of unemployment is at the discretion of the person to some small degree. • 41. Mccandless, Mccandless And Thoreau Similar to Thoreau, McCandless does not associate being in solitude to being lonesome. Throughout his journey, McCandless avoids forming close bonds with others because it distracts him from his final goal of independence and transcendentalism. This lack of intimate relationships frees McCandless as seen through the journal entry he wrote before walking into the Alaskan Bush. He writes proudly that for two years he has roamed with no company and no comforts. He calls it, Ultimate freedom (Krakauer 163). The fact that he considers it more of a freedom than a loss to live in solidarity shows that like Thoreau, McCandless does not feel lonely when he is alone. According to his sister, Carine, even when he was younger, he was fine with being alone. She said that although he had friends, he could easily entertain himself and never seemed lonely when he was alone. Another instance in which McCandless s dissociation of solitude and lonelinessshows is in a letter he writes to Ron Franz, a man he met near Salton City. In this letter, he tells Franz to step outside his comfort zone and live a more adventurous life. Towards the end of the letter, he states, You are wrong if you think Joy emanates only or principally from human relationships, (Krakauer 57). The patient fails to recognise the faces of close acquaintances and calls them as an imposter . The delusional belief is strongest when the putative imposter is present [2]. (1997), Proc. R. Soc. B. This theory fails to answer two major questions. First, why is the phenomenon specific to close relatives? One possibility, as suggested by Ramachandran el al., is that only with parents or a spouse does one seek emotional arousal thus its absence leads to a confabulatory delusion that one s parent is an imposter. With an emotionally neutral person on the other hand, one does not expect such arousal, and therefore there is no incentive for generating a delusion. The second major question is why the lack of emotional arousal can have such drastic delusions? Why does the patient not accept the fact that the loved one is not an imposter but can no longer feel the warmth? There can be some extra lesions, perhaps in the right frontal cortex, which is responsible for generating such an extreme delusion. The left hemisphere seeks to preserve consistency by explaining for any discrepancies, whereas there may be a global consistency checking mechanism in the right hemisphere which serves to counter balance this tendency (Ramachandran 1995). Damage to such a mechanism due to a right hemisphere stroke may lead to Capgras Delusion, where one needs a conjugation of two lesions: one which affects the global consistency checking mechanism in the right hemisphere and the other affecting the consistency. ... The Lady s Dressing Room By Jonathan Swift Part 1: The Lady s Dressing Room In the poem, The Lady s Dressing Room, the author Jonathan Swift ridicules both genders for adhering to a false sense of gender ideals set by society. He does this by looking at the poem through a male perspective, this is particularly useful as it illustrates how men want to view women but neglect that their own activities are equally as stereotypical. The societal ideals society places on women is that they are clean and they all look and act in a similar manner to a goddess. In the actual Greek myth, Pandora is given the box as a curse on her family. Pandora s brother in law, decides to go against the will of The Olympian Gods, thus bringing upon this punishment to Pandora. The story has been shaped to pin the entirety of the blame on women to enforce the stereotype. Jonathan Swift shows how society loses certain lenses and shape their stories to undermine women. Under the constitution, the Five Nations agreed to three main principals: peace, equity and justice. These nations passed on these agreements and rules through oral history and shared mythologies. In studying myths and religions around the world, Joseph Campbellrecognized four functions of myth: mystical, cosmological, sociological, and psychological. Campbell noticed that these functions could be found in most explorer stories and origin stories throughout various cultures and societies. The rules my family has established in my household are similar to the Iroquois Constitution, Campbell s functions of myth, and can be an inspiration for when I become a parent. My house rules are similar to the Iroquois Constitution in many ways. First, they are similar because by abiding to the house rules, my parents and I are in an agreement which is the basic idea of the Iroquois Constitution. Second, by not fighting my sister when we are in the house, we are agreeing to have peace. Both my sister and I are considered equals in the house with equal expectations for justice. Arthur C. • 51. How Mindfulness Can Change Your Life How Mindfulness Can Change Your Life Adopted as the latest craze, mindfulness is more than just a passing fad. This meditation technique stretches back thousands of years in Eastern cultures. While it was once a technique used primarily by Buddhist monks, modern researchers have discovered some of the immense benefits of being mindful in every day life. How Mindfulness Works At its heart, mindfulness is just a way to pay closer attention to everything that is going on. It focuses on rooting yourself in the present to notice what is really happening within your mind and body. You begin to notice the things that are going on around you without judging what is going on. The flowers grow, your boss gives you a new project and cars drive by just because that is what they do. With this mind set, you stop judging and are able to just exist within the moment. Instead of allowing yourself to go into autopilot, you are able to observe your life at a distance. During this time, the density of the gray matter in their minds actually increased. In total, there were eight different regions of the mind that were affected. With a mindfulness practice, the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is improved, which allows for greater self regulation, less impulsiveness and better focus. Thank You for Smoking is a satirical film that focuses on the hidden agendas and dark truths of Big Tobacco. The film follows Nick Naylor, head lobbyist for Big Tobacco and his demise through his endorsement for cigarettes. Throughout the movie Nick Naylor showcases his persuasiveness in almost every scene. Naylor proclaimed, That s the beauty of argument, if you argue correctly, you re never... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As you may expect, sitting next to a young boy who has gotten cancer from smoking Nick is the target amongst the panel and Ron s plan works. However, Nick is able to quickly turn the tables, he tells the audience that It s in our (Big Tobacco) best interests to keep Robin alive and smoking, (Reitman, 2006). and he adds that, The anti smoking people want Robin to die. so that their budget can go up (Reitman, 2006). Nick ends the scene by telling the audience that Big Tobacco is launching a 50 million dollar campaign to persuade kids not to smoke and the crowd goes wild. This is the first time we get to see Nick s skill. Although, he has not acknowledged the mortality caused by cigarettes he successfully uses pathos to tap into the audience s emotions. Initially, when the crowds see the sick boy they look at Naylor to blame because he endorses the deadly sticks, but after Nick proves to them that it is in Big Tobacco s best interest that Robin lives because they would lose a customer the audience is swayed and forgets that the reason Robin is dying is because of Big Tobacco. In this case Naylor uses pathos to redirect the audience s anger at Ron Goody. During Naylor s interview with Heather Holloway when asked about why he does his job he confesses that he does it for the mortgage. Naylor doesn t really pose an argument to her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One reason why the plot is able to effectively create suspense is through utilizing foreshadowing. For example, the film opens with Grace, the mother, screaming as Grace wakes up, foreshadowing fear in the movie. In addition, the dialogue plays a role in foreshadowing as well, such the repeated allusions to the day [Grace] went mad . As Grace slowly uncovers clues as to what is going on in the house, the repeated sightings of doors being unlocked and sounds being made keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Specifically, the incident when Grace hears piano music being played in the middle of the night fully cements in the audience s mind that there are ghosts without revealing the true identity or purpose of the ghosts, adding suspense rather than answering questions. However, when it is revealed that Grace, Anne, and Nicholas are, in fact, ghosts and the other family is alive provides a tie in to all of the suspense. Suddenly, even the smallest detail, such as descriptions of the old lady who can connect with spirits, comes to the audience s mind to add validity to the twist.
