Sexual Harassment In The Military
Introduction Sexual harassment still runs deep in today s military and is still a major issue as we are
well into the 21st century. More and more working Americans face the problems of being victims of
sexual harassment every day at work environment. College students also have to deal with sexual
harassment at the school front from fellow students and college professors. Active duty military men
and women have to deal with sexual harassment in the military service. Reports of sexual harassment
derive from slaves accusing slave owners of sexual harassment. Law Professor Anita Hill accused
Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment back in 1991. Sexual harassment continues in every part of
society all around the world and will be a hard one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only did the Israeli military have to worry about whether or not their female military members
could do the same job but also they had to deal with sexual harassments happening from both their
men and the men in the Arab army if the women were ever captured. Israelis has always feared for
their women who were taken prisoners of war and the psychological effects that followed. (Lief,
Second Class in the Israeli Military , U.S. News World Report) Sexual harassments in the military is
happing at a rapped rate in the United States armed forces too and according to an recent news article
in the New Scientist more women in the military have reported sexual assault by colleagues on
deployment than men. Of the nearly 4,000 members of the U.S. armed forces to report sexual
harassment or assault, 88% of them were women. (Grossman, The Right to Fight ) Even though things
are still being done to prevent things from happening there is no way that it will completely stop
sexual harassment or assault and since women are the ones getting hurt by it the most they will
continue to feel the effects psychologically and physically by this. It is very possible for women to get
harassed who are in potential combat roles and for them to go into a fight with psychological issues

Canada s Pipeline System Has An Enviable Safety Record
Natural Resources Canada ( NRC ) estimates there are 100,000 Km of large diameter oil and gas
transmission lines in Canada, about 73,000 Km of which are federally regulated by the National
Energy Board ( NEB ). Canada s pipeline system has an enviable safety record. The NRC reports that
between 2009 and 2013, 99.999% of the crude oil and petroleum products carried by NRC regulated
pipelines were delivered safely and between 2011 and 2013, 100% of products released by these
pipelines were recovered safely. Canada depends heavily on these pipelines to move oil and gas to
ports, refineries, businesses, and homes across the country. Their safe operation is central to the
Canadian way of life. Electronic attacks against pipelines around ... Show more content on

Natural gas pipelines in British Columbia were bombed six times between October 2008 and July
2009 by unknown perpetrators in acts classified by authorities as environmentally motivated domestic
terrorism. As alarming as these events are, physical attacks on pipelines are far easier to predict,
prevent, and resolve than cyber attacks.
Sophisticated hackers have expanded their threat matrix to include cyber attacks on the computer
systems used to operate the world s pipelines. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition ( SCADA )
systems are increasingly subject to targeted attacks. Cyber attacks can be perpetrated over the Internet
from anywhere in the world and are capable of disrupting safe pipeline operation causing spills,
explosions, or fires. The 2008 explosion on the Baku Tbilisi Ceyhan oil pipeline in Turkey was
reportedly caused by a cyber attack.
In 2012, the Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team of the US Department of
Homeland Security identified a series of cyber attacks on American natural gas pipelines that had
continued for more than a year. The pipeline companies reported targeted phishing attempts and
intrusions into multiple natural gas pipelines positively identified ... as related to a single campaign. In
2011, computer security company McAfee reported coordinated covert and targeted cyber attacks
originating in China, against multiple energy companies. The attacks began in 2009 employing

Lutheran Social Services Case Study
Children s Home Society of Minnesota The social service I wanted to learn more about was Lutheran
Social Service of Minnesota. In 2012, Children s Home Society and Lutheran Social Services
combined forces in their adoption services to provide quality programs to families. They are an
organization that provides social services for adoption, pregnancy, post adoption, global support and
educational services in Minnesota. Their mission is to provide care and match children to homes. I had
no idea there were so many things to consider when you are deciding whether to place a child in
adoption, foster care programs and to adopt a child either locally or internationally. For pregnant
mothers, they provide resources to help should they choose parenting or adoption. For potential
fathers, they provide the resources for them to protect against their child getting adopted until a DNA
test, allowing them an opportunity before this decision is made. They work with families that wish to
adopt and those that wish to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They continue to look to improve the operation of the organization through programs such as the

to identify positive adult connections and identify adoptive families. The product of this organization
since 1998 they have distributed over $5 million in 24 countries to support Global Family Support

Reasons Of The Crusades
The Crusades were a series of military conflicts in which European Christians went to the Near East to
reclaim territories lost by the Byzantine Empire to Islamic Caliphates. An historical debate arising
from this period is what motivated the Crusaders to attempt this undertaking. Some view the Crusades
as religious wars motivated by the differences between Christianity and Islam, particularly with
regards to the control of sites and cities sacred in both religions. Others have seen the Crusades as a
war for territorial expansion that merely employed the rhetoric of religious conflict. This paper will
examine this historical debate with reference to two opposing academic articles. It will argue that the
motivations that led to the Crusades ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The collapse of the Roman Empire in Western Europe had fragmented political authority into feudal
kingdoms which were ostensibly loyal to the Catholic Church. In practice, these kingdoms pursued
their own goals and sometimes came into conflict with one another. At the same time, the decline of
the Byzantine Empire and the rapid expansion of the Caliphate meant that many cities and locations
central to Christianity were under the control of an Islamic empire. The Crusades were a specific kind
of military mission called for by the Catholic Church to reconquer the Holy Land (Horowitz 174). In
this sense, their purpose was to take control of territory based on a religious motivation. At the same
time, however, the Crusades were also motivated by the acquisition of territory for the purpose of
extended secular rule. Contemporary Crusades in the Iberian Peninsula, parts of the Byzantine
Empire, and, eventually, in Northern and Eastern Europe, were about capturing territory that had no
particular religious significance (Blaydes Paik 554). Even in the Near East, Crusaders established
states modelled on European kingdoms and attracted settlers from Europe. Thousands of people were
motivated to participate in the Crusades, but it is disputable whether religion or territory were the
primary motivations for these

Improvements in the Quality of Life of the Hearing Impaired: Modern Technologies Impact
The hearing impaired, including people who are deaf and are hard of hearing, have a wide variety of
technology presented to them to improve their lifestyles. Researchers and manufacturers have
improved their products and psychologists, who specialize in deaf studies, have improved techniques
to expand the possibilities the hearing impaired have. While speech therapy and psychological therapy
have had an impact, modern technology has had the largest impact of the lives of the hearing

The organization states that this implant can not restore normal hearing, instead it can give the person
a useful representation of sounds in the environment and help them to understand speech. With all of
these pieces the cochlear implant works very different from a hearing aid. Hearing aids amplify sound
so they may be detected by damaged ears, while cochlear implants bypass the damages and directly
stimulate the auditory nerve. The signals generated by the implant are sent to the auditory nerve,
which then send the signals to the brain. The brain then recognizes the signals as sound. According to
the NIDCD (2013a) the cochlear implant can be helpful to many different people. Both children and
adults can be fitted for cochlear implants and as stated by the Food and Drug Administration, as of
December 2012, approximately 324,000 people have cochlear implants worldwide. In the U.S. alone,
about 58,000 adults and 38,000 children have them. Adults who have lost their hearing often benefit
from cochlear implants due to the signs they receive can easily be associated with sounds they have
heard before with practice. Children who receive implants also strive, especially when the implant is
paired with sign language and post implantation therapy. The organization says most get their implants

Finding Forrester Courage
I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it Nelson Mandela. In the film
Finding Forrester by Gus Van Sant an older white author, named William Forrester, who stripped
himself from the world begins to become acquainted with a black teen, Jamal Wallace. They quickly
use each other to find inner courage and achieve goals they never believed would happen. Forrester
becomes Jamal s tutor and helps him through plagiarism allegations and Jamal becomes Forresters
seeming therapist. Forrester is brought back into the real world to live a greater life and Jamal works
to pursue his academic and basketball goals. They do these things through the courage the begin to
obtain from one another. Finding Forrester shows that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When at Madison Square garden, going to the basketball game, Jamal and Forrester accidentally
separate in a huge crowd of people and Forrester has an anxiety attack since he does not know how to
live a life outside of his house. Forrester leaving his house in the first place, takes a lot of courage
since he does not know what was going to happen. It is a challenge for him then to be all alone instead
of with Jamal. His courage was tough to build up, as Jamal found, but eventually he gains the courage
to hop back into the real world. According to Movielocity (2001), Compelled to look past skin color
and suppositions, Jamal encounters not only his first fan, but a mentor who will challenge and change
him forever, and Forrester has his first reason in years to emerge from his self imposed solitude (p.1).
Despite their extreme differences, Jamal and Forrester exchange courage in different ways, they
challenge each other to go outside of their box. These men have to challenge one another harshly in
order to push the courage out of eachother. They are scared of the consequences, but eventually gain
the courage. This matters because them being together rises the level of courage that they have,
despite how hard it is. Forrester is scared of the world and Jamal is scared of falling into the
stereotypical student athlete. At the state basketball tournament Jamal is told by an administrator of his
school that if

Electronic Health Record Article Summary
Geyer, Sherree. (2016). Rethinking clinical documentation for the EHR era. Healthcare IT News,
In this article, Sherree Geyer analyzes how clinical documentation in this EHR (electronic health
record) era is affecting care, and what that means moving forward. Geyer takes a look into what is at
the core of the problem that has physicians not connecting the dots on clinical documentation. She
also addresses what can be done to ease the situation as we move forward in this EHR era.
The article discusses a recent study by Annals of Internal Medicine that showed physicians spend 37
percent of their time on clinical documentation in their electronic health records. This was attributed to
the fact that a number of people have use for clinical documentation in ... Show more content on

The one issue not addressed in this article is the fact that at this stage in EHRs most of those
responsible for developing EHRs are people not familiar with healthcare, so they don t quiet have the
understanding of what is necessary. There is no denying how critical clinical documentation is to
healthcare. According to Health Information Management Technology: An Applied Approach (pg120),
the documentation found in health records is crucial as evidence of services provided and the quality
of those services. This has become so important that many healthcare setting have initiated clinical
documentation improvement programs. With a growing and ageing population in need of quality
healthcare, timely and accurate clinical documentation is critical to a successful healthcare system.
However, I think it is important for everyone to remember that these things take time, as stated in the
article we re still in the early days of EHRs, so as time goes on these problems are sure to get

Scene Analysis Of Song At Midnight
Scene Analysis on Song at Midnight: the First Meet of Song Danping and Sun Xiao ou
The first meeting of Song Danping and Sun Xiao ou in the film Song at midnight is not only the first
exposure of the phantom in the theater after ten years, but also a turning point of Sun s life. So the
scene that Sun goes upstairs to meet the phantom Song is both an end of the ten year nightmare of
Song, and a starting of a new story of revenge and revolution.
However, the changeover cannot be accomplished at one stroke, which is specially reflected by the
transitions of Sun s attitudes and behaviors: from vacillate, to touched, then ends up in determined.
This scene s duration is more than half an hour with two long cuts of retrospections about the ordeal
happened to Song. We only focus on the scene in the loft above the theater, and the analysis can ...

We can focus on three plots that assist Sun who finally determines to help Song.
First one is about Sun s reaction after hearing Song s story out. A medium shot shows they are sitting
at the table with different gestures: Sun sits up with his right fist clenched and left hand clutching
tightly again and again; Song leans his right elbow onto the table with his ugly right hand hanging
down the tabletop loosely. Then, not like the former parts, Song stands up and move to the window
slowly and unsteadily, and Sun follows him proactively. In part 1 and part 2,Sun s gestures,
including sit down near the stairs, go to the cabinet and the table, are all forced by Song. The reason is
not only Sun is still in shock but also he doesn t know who the phantom is. However, in part 3, Sun s
movements are all initiated by his own. So when Song asks Sun to help him to comfort Li Xiaoxia,
Song s character changes from a dominator to a suppliant. To a kindly person, Sun cannot reject

All Quiet On The Western Front And Dulce Et Decorum
The topic of war is hard to imagine from the perspective of one who hasn t experienced it. Literature
makes it accessible for the reader to explore the themes of war. Owen and Remarque both dipcik what
war was like for one who has never gone through it. Men in both All Quiet on the Western Front and
Dulce Et Decorum experience betrayal of youth, horrors of war and feelings of camaraderie.
While the young men at the ages of eighteen to twenty signed up for the war they believed that they
were going to have a well off time, meanwhile the older generation is betraying them. The men that
came before them do not tell them they are going to see there best friend shot to pieces. Also that they

Most soldiers have that epiphany when they know that they are okay because they have these men
around them that are there to help and support them. These men that make it out with or without the
men they came with leave with an understanding of the camaraderie that they did not have starting

Nannocrystalline Zno Film Analysis
The formation of nanocrystalline ZnO films was confirmed by using X ray diffraction. XRD patterns
of simple glass substrate and ZnO coated glass substrates were shown in figure 3(a) and (b d),
respectively. The amorphous behavior of glass substrate with a continuous curve ~20˚ to 35˚ in 2θ
range was depicted in figure 3(a) and was clearly evidenced in ZnO coated substrates. A
comparatively low intensity and broadness in diffraction peaks was observed in single layer deposited
ZnO thin film figure 3(b) , which revealed that film consist of coarse fine grains with
nanocrystallinity. It was observed that the peak intensities gradually increased from triple figure 2(c)

However in Rietveld refinement the peaks profile is fitted using Pseudo Voight functions, which is
linear combination of Gaussian and Lorentzian functions. The internal strain (ε) may arise from the
chemical reaction involved in the growth process of ZnO films and having negligible effect on peak
broadening. The microstructural (crystallite size and lattice strain) and structural (lattice cell constants,
atomic positions and occupancies) parameters refinement was performed using the space group
P63mc. The values of the crystallite size, strain, and lattice parameter obtained from the Rietveld
refinement and Scherrer methods are shown in Table 1. In table 1 the microstructural analysis shows
the lattice parameters are well matched lattice constants for the standard values of the hexagonal
wurtzite structure of ZnO. Furthermore, the variation of single to five layer coated ZnO film lattice
parameters a and c is remarkable, when compared with the standard ZnO, due to the complexity of the
hexagonal wurtzite crystal structure of ZnO and anisotropic variation in the crystal lattice. As seen in
Table 1, the ratio of the lattice parameters a/c is slightly affected by deposition cycles. However, the
unit cell volume of as prepared ZnO film is decreased from 47.598 to 47.501 Ã…3 with increasing the
deposition cycle from single to five cycles. The similar performance was observed for the Zn O bond
length (l) which decreases from 2.09 to 2.03A with increasing

Bravery In Beowulf
1. Introduction Beowulf, a fearsome warrior, travels to the Danes homeland in order to protect them
from the evils of Grendel and his mother to the frightening dragon. He is a symbolic form to the Anglo
Saxon s due to his heroics and strength to push through when nobody else will. The epic poem
Beowulf displays Anglo Saxon culture by the belief of fate in a society where both glory and loyalty
heavily influence the peoples values and nature. Body Paragraph 1 Beowulf portrays the Anglo Saxon
ideal of bravery/glory throughout the adventure he is on. Beowulf and Grendel struggle until Grendel

Painful, too, is the desertion of his retainers except for his young kinsman Wiglaf. Both Beowulf and
Wiglaf kill the dragon but Beowulf is mortally wounded. He asks Wiglaf to bring out the treasure so
that he might see it before he dies. By fighting along side with Wiglaf, Beowulf shows his devotion to
his men and that he will never leave their side until death. In return of the loyalty he shows his men,
he is given a proper funeral and is remembered by them till the end of their lives. I shipped a treasure
to the Wulfings and Ecgtheow acknowledged me with oaths of allegiance. Before all the adventure,
Beowulf explains how he fought other creatures throughout the world so that he could pay off his
father s debt. Beowulf s loyalty to his own family shows his courtesy to help those that helped him
when he was young. Also, Beowulf was able to form treaties with other countries, proving his loyalty
by slaying monsters from afar. Beowulfs ideal of loyalty best lies both within himself and his fellow
comrades, he doesn t want to abandon them no matter what the cost is.

Mercury Surface
Mercury
The surface of Mercury is littered with craters. These craters are believed to have been created by
collisions from debris. Mercurys craters range from small circular craters to multi ridged impact basin.
These basin are formed either when there was a large collision followed by a few small collisions or
from many smaller collisions. The largest known crater on Mercury is called the Caloris Basin. This
crater has a diameter of approximately 1500 kilometres across and surprisingly resides in a rather flat
part of Mercurys surface.
However we see that the full surface of Mercury is not cratered and that there is sections of Mercurys
surface that looks untouched we call these sections smooth plains. These plains are not believed to
have been created by volcanic activity on Mercurys surface.

The Characteristics And Effects Of The Human Brain
The Human Brain is the most important organ in the body. Much like the headquarters of the body.
Without the brain the rest of the body will suffer. The brain also creates different traits and
personalities. How ever when the brain doesn t function properly it will cause many effects to an
individual. These effects can range from minimal to severe, depending on what is wrong with the
brain.
The human brain is protected by a bone structure in a form of a skull. The brain has a light pink, pail,
and noodle look to it. It has lines in the brain to section parts of the brain. The brain feels like jello, it s
stays in place but squishy. Put to much pressure on it, it will break. The human brain is very sensitive.
The human brain is also wet and slimy, like the feeling of boggers. The human brain has its own odd
smell. Like rotting food in the trash. The average brain weighs about three pounds. Robbie Gonzalez
stated Assume it feels solid, firm, almost rubber like. But the brains you encounter in a lab setting
have almost always been fixed and preserved with chemicals like formaldehyde, which have a
dramatic effect on the texture and firmness of tissue like brain matter (Gizmodo). What Robbie is
saying that brains that are in lab class feel different than a fresh brain. The reason why they feel
different is that in the lab their preserved with chemicals. That s what Robbie was talking about.
There are three major components that make up the brain. The Cerebrum, Brainstem,

Essay about Architectural Forms in the Mannerist Period
During the Mannerist period, architects experimented with using architectural forms to emphasize
solid and spatial relationships. The Renaissance ideal of harmony, gave way to freer and more
imaginative rhythms.
During the High Renaissance, architectural concepts derived from classical ancient times were
developed, and used with bigger surety. The most representative architect is Bramante (1444 1514),
who expanded the applicability of classical architecture to contemporary buildings in a style that was
to control Italian architecture in the sixteenth century. During the Mannerist period, however,
architects experimented with using architectural forms to stress on solid and spatial relationships.

Giulio Romano (1499 1546), was a pupil of Raphael, assisting him on various works for the Vatican.
Romano was also a highly inventive designer, working for Federico II Gonzaga at Mantua on the
Palazzo Te (1524 1534), a project which combined his skills as architect, sculptor, and painter. In this
work, which integrated garden grottoes and extensive frescoes, he uses illusionistic effects, surprising
combinations of architectural form and texture, and the frequent use of features that seem somewhat
unbalanced or out of alignment.
Michelangelo s architectural fame lies chiefly in St Peter s Basilica in Rome. St Peter s was the
greatest creation of the Renaissance, and a great number of architects contributed their skills to it. But
at its conclusion there was more of Michelangelo s design than of any other architect. When he took
over the project in 1546 Michelangelo integrated Bramante s Greek cross plan and redesigned the
piers, the walls, and the dome, giving the lower weight bearing members huge proportions and
eliminating the encircling aisles from the chancel and identical transept arms. Michelangelo s dome
was a masterpiece of design using two masonry shells, one within the other and crowned by a massive
lantern supported, as at Florence on ribs .For the exterior of the building, he designed a giant order
which defines every external bay. The full lot is held together by a wide cornice which runs

Effects of Illegal Whaling in The Southern Ocean Whale...
Whaling in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary (SOWS) is an ongoing issue despite laws and
regulations prohibiting commercial hunting in these waters. Whaling fleets from Japan use scientific
research to justify continued whaling in the Southern Ocean. Weak enforcement of the regulations set
up in the SOWS has allowed countries, most notably Japan, to continue their hunts with little
interference. If whaling continues in the SOWS, it may lead to irreversible effects to the ecosystem of
the Southern Ocean.
A steady decrease in whale populations can have a top down effect on many other species in the
ecosystem, especially penguin, seal, and krill. The reasoning is because whales are a keystone species

The Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary is located in waters surrounding Antarctica.
(NEED CITE)
Whaling inside the southern ocean is strictly prohibited for commercial purposes; countries are
allowed to kill a certain number of whales per year for scientific research.
Ecosystem
To look at the ecosystem of the Southern Ocean, we will be referencing the food web created by
Laws.
The whales that are going to be focused are species of baleen whales found in the southern ocean.
These species are the fin whale, the blue whale, the sei whale, the humpback whale, and the minke
whale. As shown in the food web, the main food source of these whales is krill. This is important to
note in regards to the issues of prey switching, as well as krill surplus, which will be discussed later in
the research. (WHAT IS A BALEEN WHALE???)
Illegal Whale Hunting
Issue
The issue behind whaling in the Southern Ocean is mainly attributed to the permit of scientific
whaling in the southern ocean. Allowing scientific whaling in the Southern Ocean has sparked a
debate about what is considered research, and what is considered whaling, and many are coming to
realize there is a fine line between the two. Currently, the only country performing scientific whaling
in the Southern Ocean is Japan (Peace, 2010). The problem with Japans scientific whaling program is
that many believe it is being used as a cover for commercial whaling. According to Peace, most

Being There by Jerzy Kosinski Essay
In his novel Being There, Jerzy Kosinski shows how present day culture has strayed away from the
ideal society that Plato describes in his allegory of the cave. In his metaphor, Plato describes the
different stages of life and education through the use of a cave. In the first level of the cave, Plato
describes prisoners who are shackled and facing a blank wall. Behind them is a wall of fire with a
partition that various objects are placed and manipulated by another group of people. These shadows
are the only action that they ever see. They can only talk to the surrounding prisoners, and watch the
puppet show on the wall in front of them. Naturally, the prisoners come to believe that the shadows on
the wall in front of them are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He knows gardening, and knows it very well. He has his own room in the Old Man s house, and is not
permitted to leave, or have any visitors. The only connection to the outside world is his TV that he
watches constantly. He cannot read or write, and knows little about the world he lives in. Much like
the prisoners in the cave, he is a prisoner in the house, only gaining knowledge from the shadows that
moved within his TV. His lack of social skills becomes much more apparent once he leaves the house
for the first time. He has no intended destination, and wanders the streets. Once he is hurt by the
limousine, he is given an injection to ease his pain. As the doctor fills the needle, he wants to show

which he had seen injections being given (Kosinski 33). Just like the prisoners in the cave, he was
trying to understand a reality based on pictures in order to react to the world around him. One thing

Rhetorical Analysis On The Perils Of Indifference
He was finally free, but there was no joy in his heart. He thought there never would be again . This
quote stated by Elie Wiesel from his speech, The Perils of Indifference , refers to the day Elie Wiesel
got liberated from the Holocaust when he was young. The Holocaust was just one of the many horrific
tragedies that occurred during that century. In hopes of changing the future for the better, Wiesel
decides to deliver a speech about helping the victims of injustice. He gives this speech intended for the
President, Mrs. Clinton, members of Congress, Ambassador Holbrooke, Excellencies, and friends
hoping that they will make positive changes for the future. By using rhetorical strategies such as
anaphora, rhetorical questions, and ethos, Wiesel tries to help the victims of injustice and prevent
future tragedies from happening. Throughout Wiesel s speech, he used a copious amount of anaphora.
Wiesel used this technique to help get his point across to the audience. He explains how easy it is to
use indifference; consequently, people are taking opportunities from others. Wiesel explains, our work,
our dreams, our hopes (Wiesel 1 2), to show the audience what indifference is effecting in their lives.
By repeating the word our before each subject that is being affected, he is showing the audience that
the victims being affected have their own opportunity for work, dreams, and hopes. By others being
indifferent, the victims may not have those opportunities anymore.

Booker T Washington In Ragtime
Ragtime is a novel that examines America as it experiences drastic changes to its culture and its
contemporary systems and values. New movements were constantly shifting viewpoints and
redefining different groups and customs of society. The author, E.L. Doctorow, incorporates countless
historical events, people, and ideas that took place within the time period. Readers are given multiple
perspectives of occurrences and challenged to develop their own understanding of them. One
technique Doctorow utilizes throughout the novel is historical metafiction; this is the mixing of fact
and fiction to deepen the concepts of situations that occurred in the past in order to allow readers to

Coalhouse, seeking revenge asked for two things: the life of Fire Chief Willie Conklin and the
restoration of his car to its original condition. To gain the attention he needed, he took J.P. Morgan s
library under hostage and then made his demands. To attempt to diffuse the situation, Booker T.
Washington, a notorious Civil Rights activist, was sent into the Morgan Library to persuade Coalhouse
to take a nonviolent route out. By creating an interaction between the fictional character of Coalhouse
Walker and the factual character of Booker T. Washington, Doctorow provides a contrast between the
two most prominent types of activism during the Civil Rights Movement. Washington immediately
goes on a rant, condemning Coalhouse for falling to the violent means of action. His speech has a self
centered tone as he even asks Coalhouse, What will your misguided criminal recklessness cost me! to
which he calmly responds, It is a great honor for me to meet you, sir... I have always stood in
admiration for you (Doctorow 281, 282). There is great irony in this interaction; for the man who is
viewed as a peaceful activist vocally scolds the other, known as a violent avenger, who then responds
in a soft tone with kindness and respect. Through this scene, Doctorow provides insight into the
personality of Booker T. Washington. During their conversation, Coalhouse makes a change to his
demands, no longer requesting the life of Conklin; however, Washington is so caught up with his
failure of persuasion, he is completely oblivious to this important detail (Doctorow 283). By only
being invested in the situation for his own pride, the issue remains unresolved. He is consumed by his
selfish thoughts about his opinion being ineffective on Coalhouse and misses out on crucial

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to go on a trip to Washington DC to attend an International

The Commodification And Objectification Of Women In Mass...
The commodification or objectification of women in mass media has long sorted history. The concept
of a commodity and the word itself changes meaning when dealt with in various capital industries
which engage in trade. For the purpose of exploration, the meaning of commodity shall be narrowed
down to an economic good, that is subject to ready exchange or exploitation within a market .
A trend that is developing in entertainment media today is the objectification of women in society.
Specifically in indian movies, music videos, music, and television, there is strong focus on women as
sexual objects rather than women. This is detrimental to society because the media is creating social
stereotypes for both men and women that can result in unhealthy social and physical habits. The issue
is especially prevalent because the more the media uses sexual content regarding women, the more
viewers seem to buy into them. Thus, the media is able to shape the culture s sense of dating, romance,
sex, and what is ideal within society. The sexual attitudes of society are shaped and that has effects
that can affect all demographics among society.
Advertising and media images that encourage girls to focus on looks and sexuality are harmful to their
emotional and physical health. Women develop the ideal of seeing their bodies as not their personal
self, but as sexual objects. That unhealthy train of thought can develop into recurring problems such as
eating disorders, low self esteem, and

Even more religious symbols can be found. The black hole is surrounded by bright yellow light. This

gives the black hole a celestial connotation. Dr. Romilly explains that human beings cannot

Kubrick s and Villeneuve s strength is the framing. In Space Odyssey an enormous number of scenes
that show central perspective can be seen. A very strong scene is the one in which David and Frank are
inside the space pod and talking about HAL. This shot indicates a vanishing point in the center of the
frame. Kubrick enhances the depth by dividing the frame in a foreground and background; David and
Frank are in the foreground whereas HAL is in the background (cf. Kargl 134). Kubrick often uses the
central perspective to create additional depth. Although the persons and objects that are filmed by a
camera are three dimensional the screen on which the film is shown is a flat surface. Therefore,
Kubrick uses certain perspectives to enhance the three dimensional effect. Villeneuve on the other
hand uses the perspective to guide the audience. A lot of Arrival s scenes show guiding lines that lead
to a vanishing point. Sometimes the camera pans to that vanishing point. Sometimes he guides the

The Importance of Potassium for the Human Body
Potassium is a mineral that is needed for the body to function properly. It was first discovered in 1807
by Humphry Davy. It is important for both cellular and electrical function. Potassium is an important
electrolyte in the human body. It helps control the amount of water in the human body, and help
maintain a healthy pH level. Electrolytes are lost through sweat, so it is important always have a
source potassium during or after physical activity. Potassium is also important for the balance of blood
pressure. It helps lower your blood pressure, along with sodium. Even though potassium helps lower
your blood pressure, there are other things that affect it.
Potassium is really important in for the ability for your skeletal and smooth muscles to contract. It also
vital for the health of your heart. Without potassium the heart have irregular heart beats which could
be life threatening. That is why people should always maintain an adequate amount of potassium. The
Institute of Medicine recommends adults get 4,700 milligrams of potassium per day, while breast
feeding women should increase their potassium intake to 5,100 milligrams per day. The human body
excretes excess potassium, so there is no threat of taking too much. However if you don t absorb
enough potassium you could develop irregular heart beats, and possible the cirrhosis of the liver.
Potassium is found in many foods, but vegetables will give you the highest source of potassium.

Periodontal Disease And Manual Dexterity
Periodontal disease and manual dexterity in an aging population Periodontal disease is the fifth most
common health problem in Australia (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare [AIHW], 2015).
Periodontal disease is associated with large costs to the health system and reduction in the quality of
life, and wealth, of Australians (AHMAC Steering Committee for National Planning for Oral Health,
2001). The greatest contributor to the development of periodontal disease is the accumulation of
plaque in the oral cavity. The human immune system responds to plaque by initiating an inflammatory
response. This immune response is the beginning of periodontal disease. Plaque is manageable by

This review concludes with the hypothesis that suggests that age related declines in manual dexterity
are linked to the increased prevalence of periodontal disease in older adults aged over 65.
Periodontal disease Periodontal disease is characterised by inflammation of tissues surrounding the
teeth, damage to the supporting structures of teeth and the creation of pockets prone to bacterial
infection (AIHW, 2015; Gehrig Willmann, 2016). Periodontal disease is comprised of two main
diagnostic categories: gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis is characterised by inflammation,
redness, oedema, and bleeding upon probing (Australian Research Centre for Population Oral Health,
2009; Gehrig Willmann, 2016). Chronic untreated gingivitis can often lead to periodontitis (Gehrig
Willmann, 2016; Van der Weijden Slot, 2015), which presents as a loss of attachment between the
supporting structures of the teeth such as bones, gums and ligaments. The greatest contributing factor
to periodontal disease is the chronic build up of plaque a sticky film that adheres to the teeth, which is
composed of microorganisms, microbial waste products and food debris (Australian Research Centre
for Population Oral Health, 2009). Regular and effective oral hygiene practices such as frequent tooth
brushing (Zimmermann et al., 2015), using a manual or power toothbrush (Van der Weijden Slot,

What Does The Colour Symbolize In The Great Gatsby
Analyse the symbolism of colour in The Great Gatsby.
In F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel the Great Gatsby he uses many literary devices. One of the most obvious
is colour, and in this essay
I will explore how Fitzgerald uses colours like white, green and yellow to help convey 1920 s America
and Gatsby s struggle for Daisy
Buchanan.
White features most strongly in the novel and becomes a way for people to hide behind false facades.
In The Great Gatsby white symbolises royalty innocence and purity and can also be seen to represent
the way the wealthy falsely themselves. On the surface, the white symbolises their innocence and

Of all the characters,
Gatsby himself fits best into this category; Gatsby lives in a green house surrounded by a green lawn.
This colour light becomes his hopes in the novel. Barely visible from his west egg dock is the green
light that marks out Daisy s on East
Egg. He reaches towards this in the darkness as the guiding light to his dream. Daisy also forms a key
part of Gatsby s American Dream so the colour green is also associated with this idealism. This
reaching for the light also shows how Gatsby wishes to repeat the past. In chapter nine Nick describes
the Green light to how America must have looked to early settlers.
Yellow symbolises a desire for wealth and it also represents the old money of East Egg. Much like
Daisy Buchanan the old money are false and misguided. Gatsby though is also bad beneath his
character, showing that this also applies to the noveau riche people, as they to are yellow inside. His
gained his fortune through the drugs trade and crime, meaning there is nothing innocent about his
fortune. This goes against the American Dream, as according to this money should be a reward for
honesty and success.
The valley of ashes is associated with a grey and gloomy colour. This thin strip of land between west
Egg and New York City is a long strip of desolate land created by the dumping of industrial ashes,
representing the moral and social decay that results from uninhibited pursuits of

Business Evaluation And Its Solution
Introduction:
Server virtualisation is a virtualisation technique, in which physical server gets partitioned into
multiple small, virtual servers with the help of virtualisation software. Each virtual server can run
multiple operating system instances at the same time. Virtualization helps you reduce capital spending
by server consolidation and reduce costs through automation, while minimizing lost access by
reducing both planned and unplanned downtime.
Business evaluation and its solution:
When running virtual applications on a machine, it helps in reducing the hardware and operating costs,

approaches to traditional IT services such as performance debugging, capacity planning, change

One of the fundamental focal points of virtual servers is that they are totally isolated from each other,
running as if they depend on discrete fittings, which diminishes downtime amid upkeep periods. This
implies that changes could be made to one virtual server without influencing others having the same

the atmosphere which then fell on the towns burying them and the people inside them under about five

a huge impact on the understanding and practices of healthcare that seem to be so common to other
areas of the world. When a person lives in one country their whole life, that person may not realize
how different the life they live is from someone in a foreign country. If a person is going to receive
treatment from someone with a different cultural background, they should be expected to get treatment
to respects their own culture. Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences having such a
diverse variety of students has their own cultural competency definition that states effectively and

It appears as the fact they would buy bulk of starches rather than healthier options that contain
essential vitamins is because that is the typical day to day foods is all they known for the fact that is
what they ve become accustomed to. Those feeding practices are what lead to the prevalence of
malnourishment spread throughout the entire country of Mali rather than poverty which is what
Katherine was trying to confirm and on page 53 Katherine states I wanted them to confirm that it was
merely (ha! Merely!) the reality of poverty that kept their kids from rowing as they should ( quotes)
Culture can have a major impact on medical practices and health as a whole. Malian beliefs make it so
it is required for a female to become circumcised. If a person would be asked why the female
circumcisions were performed they would simple just explain that It our tradition. We all do this
showing that it has just become part of their culture and everyone just goes along with it because it is
what they have always known as being appropriate. (27)While Katherine is talking to one of the
residents of the country she even says that a man would not marry a woman if the circumcision was
not performed. Later in Dettwyler s research time while with her friend Moussa, he begins to

p. 236. Answer the questions at the end of each case in typewritten format, 3 5 pages. 1. Was this
matter within the jurisdiction of the National Labor Relations Board? The statements made by the

An employer may not interfere with its employee s ability to communicate union messages or
discriminate between union communications and non union communications. Barry Marcks violated
Section 8(a)(1) of the Act by barring union employees from using the employer s e mail system for
union business. Case 5 5, Bulletin Board Use p. 236 1. Is an employer required to have bulletin boards
at the workplace? No, I do not believe an employer is required to have a bulletin board. My company
does not have a bulletin board; with the use of technology such as email and intranet websites, a
traditional bulletin board is not needed. 2. If an Employer did not provide bulletin boards at the
workplace, would employees have a right to provide and mount their own bulletin boards? I do not
think an employee would have the right to bring in a bulletin board. I think if they want a bulletin
board they should discuss it with their supervisor and if agreed, let the company provide it. If the
employee brings in the board, they may feel like they can dictate what is posted and it may not be
work appropriate. It could cause conflict if other employees want to post something on the board.
Items posted could violate a non solicitation policy and other workplace rules. To avoid this situation,
employees should not be allowed to bring in their own bulletin board. 3. If there are company
provided bulletin boards at the workplace, does the Employer have a right to restrict the purpose or

Descriptive Essay About A Beautiful Hotel
TITLE
The best of romance and pampering at Cape Sienna Hotel in Kamala Beach
LEAD PARAGRAPH
Seated on a bluff overlooking the Indian Ocean is Cape Sienna Hotel in Kamala Beach a sleepy resort
town on Thailand s Phuket Island. The hotel is not only rated by TripAdvisor as one of the most
romantic hotels in Thailand, but also in the world. From the moment you step foot into Cape Sienna s
lobby, which is up an elevator from the ground level allowing guests to glimpse pristine views of the
Indian Ocean, you realize that the hotel easily lives up to those high praises.
PARAGRAPHS
More like a spa than a hotel
As we sipped our rose tea, our minds quickly changed from chaotic travel mode to spa mode. The
view, with the soothing sounds from the water feature in the lobby, helps with that. Our daydreaming
was interrupted by one of the smiling staff members. She apologized profusely as she drew us back to
reality. Our room was ready and she wanted to acclimate us to the resort grounds. We sat on one of the
couches, still keeping an eye out the window, while she asked my wife to pick the scent she would like
for the room s toiletries, making Cape Sienna seem more like a spa than a hotel.
The path to the hotel rooms is quite steep and windy as it cuts through the hillside jungle. The view
from all 98 rooms makes the journey worth it though as all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Remember, this is a resort though so a massage is nowhere near as cheap as you can find off premise.
You re paying more for atmosphere. For example, a 90 minute Thai massage runs 2,650 THB (73
USD) versus 500 THB (14 USD) in town. I wouldn t describe the Thai massage at Cape Sienna as
traditional either. It s more of a hybrid between a Thai and a Swedish massage. This isn t necessarily a
bad thing as it s a nice gateway into a Thai massage for someone who has never had their body

Similarities Between Louis Xiv And Peter The Great
Absolutism is a political system in which a King or Queen has absolute power over a country. This
ruler also controls the political system, taxes, laws and every aspect of society. An absolute monarch
can also believe in divine right. This is the belief that God gave power to the monarchs to be a God on
earth. An example of these types of rulers are Louis XIV, who ruled for 72 years, Ivan the Terrible
who ruled from 1530 to 1584, and Peter the Great who ruled from 1682 to 1725. Peter the Great was
the most significant absolutist ruler because of all the great things he did for the poor people and his
effort into the modernization of his country. Louis XIV became the King of France when he was five.
However, he was too young to rule the country. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also expanded Russia to the East and into Siberia, making the country even larger. In 1560, Ivan s
wife died and that changed him entirely. He suspected the nobles of poisoning Anastasia and plotting
to remove him from the throne, Ivan embarked on a campaign of oppression and killings against the
hereditary nobility (Ivan the Terrible). This means that since his wife died and nobles were always
fighting for power and Ivan has always had a hatred for them, he thought that the nobles were the ones
who planned to kill his wife and be thrown him from his throne. Suddenly, in the winter of 1564 Ivan
secretly left Moscow declaring that he wanted to abdicate. The panicked population called for his
return (Prominent Russians Ivan IV the Terrible). This means that Ivan the Terrible declared he he
wanted to resign from his throne, but the people begged him to come

Oppression Of The Catholic Religion
Many people might not have known that oppression is present in regard to religion. There have been
many times over the past decades were overt forms of oppression have been present when a dominant
religious group takes over a subordinated group. In a reading this week, Christian Privilege is talked
about. This type of privilege surprised me because I did not even know it existed. The reading talked
about how dominant religious would punish individuals who went against their religion and tried to
force others out so they would be on top. It is absurd to me that individuals would go to such great
lengths to make sure that people were following their religion and not another. A topic that really
enforced this type of oppression is the marginalization of the Catholic religion. I have never noticed
that unless you are in a public school, one never has off for holidays unless it is a Catholic holiday. It
is preposterous that some students need to be excused from school just to celebrate any over their
religious holidays. I could not believe that so much of our school system is centered on a Christian
denomination. This reading really helped open my eyes to the oppression that many religions have to
face (Blumenfeld, 2010). After looking over this article, something that bothered me is that our culture
is so focused on the Christian denomination that we never hear about any other religions. I went to
Catholic school all my life, so I never went against the societal norms. There

The Lion King Character Analysis
What s In A Character?
The Lion King is best known of its ironic characters. From Simba to Zazu, everyone has a favourite.
Let s take a look at the characters in the order that they appear in the film.
Zazu
As the king s majordomo it is his job to see to everything in the name of the king. Seen as bossy and
highly organised, Zazu is an early babysitter to Simba and Nala at the beginning of the film when
Sarabi tells Simba and Nala they can go to the watering hole as long as Zazu goes with them.
Best Quote:
Didn t your mother ever tell you not to play with your food?
What is great about Zazu is that he is also comic relief and is one to tell the villains where to stick it
while almost becoming a victim.
Mufasa
The father of Simba and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, his apparent nonsense is actually based on wisdom.
Sarabi
Even though we don t see much of Sarabi in the film, she still plays an important role. She is Mufasa s
mate/wife, the mother of Simba and the sister in law of Scar.
She is seen to maternal, kind and doesn t like it when Scar takes poorly about Mufasa after his death.
Her treatment at the paws of Scar is disciple and this prompts Simba to reveal himself to Scar when
his uncle hits Sarabi for standing up to him.
Best Quote:
It s over! There is nothing left! We have only one choice: We must leave Pride Rock!
Sarabi was meant to play a role in The Lion King 2 but because of her actress s death, they wrote her
character out without so much as to an explanation as to what happened to her.
Simba
Simba first makes his appearance as a cub laying in the paws of his mother, Sarabi. He is then
presented to the kingdom as the heir of Pride Rock.
Over the course of the film, Simba goes from being a cub determined to be a king to a young adult
wanting nothing to do with his past because of what happened to his father. He believed for years that
he was the one responsible for his father s death only to learn that it was his uncle s fault that his
father had died. This set him on a path of redeeming not just himself but the kingdom in which he was
born to lead.
Best Quote:
But, Zazu, you told me they are nothing but slobbery, mangy stupid poachers.
What is vastly unique about Simba is that he

the next fourteen years she served as a radio operator. During this time she conducted numerous
operations, but one stands out in particular. A devastating F 22 crash just outside of Fairbanks, Alaska.

History Of South Carolina State University
Students in high school have a very difficult time depicting the college or university of their choice
whether there are going to attend a Historical Black College or University, Predominantly White
School? As a future educator, I made a commendable choice to attend an HBCU because they are still
needed today for successful individuals. Although some African Americans forget the journey that our
ancestors had to go through so we as African American can have a better education from an accredited
college or university. During the time period of slavery many African Americans could not attend a
PWI school because the color of their skin. In addition, that why I think HBCU s are still needed
today. Also many HBCU s have very strong history behind their schools. South Carolina State
University is a very distinguished supportive and studious HBCU, no matter how the media may
criticize this college there are still lessons being taught day to day lives. South Carolina State
University was found in 1896 as a state sole public college for black youth it also have played a key
role in the education of African Americans in the state and the nation. It struggled to provide
agricultural and mechanical training for generations of black youngsters. However, it extension
program sent farm and home demonstration agents to rural counties to provide knowledge and
information impoverished black farm families. This distinguished university has educated scores of

What Is Office Depot s Gross Profit Margin
Gross profit margin reflects the amount of revenue from sales that is left for profit and to pay other
expenses after the cost of the goods sold is subtracted. This margin is roughly equivalent to the
markup on a product and reflects the amount over cost the company is able to charge. Firms in retail
can usually increase their gross profit margin if they can differentiate themselves from their
competitors and charge a higher price for roughly equivalent products. Staples has pulled ahead of
Office Depot in recent years, mostly owing to a drop in Office Depot s margin from roughly 30% to
about 24%. This drop is significant because that means less money from sales is flowing through the
company to cover operating and other expenses, and contributed to problems such as those discussed
with the times interest earned ratio. Staples, while facing slight declines in its margin, has been able to
keep its gross ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The operating profit margin is this amount as a percentage of total gross sales. This is where Office
Depot s problems, as well as some of Staples become apparent. For Staples, there is wide variation in
this margin from year to year, whereas their gross profit margin had relatively small variation. This
signifies that Staples likely has less control of its expenses that are incurred in the operating section.
An improvement in controlling these expenses could not only improve the bottom line, but also make
the company s earnings more predictable from year to year. Staples still fares comparatively well here
when compared to Office Depot, who is already losing money before interest and income taxes are
subtracted. It is interesting that, despite its many advantages in most functional areas, Amazon lags
behind Staples here. This may indicate that a certain competency exists here for Staples to

The Rebellion Of Mother, By Mary Wilkins Freeman Essay
The Power of a Woman The Revolt of Mother, by Mary Wilkins Freeman, originally published in
Harper s Bazaar in 1890 (Gale 1997) it gives readers a view into the life of a woman who is struggling
with how to be correct and proper yet, remain true to herself. While some may see Sarah s actions as
signs of weakness they are actually showing her strength. She is a woman who, in spite of the
restrictions placed on her because of her gender shows the power of a woman by, knowing when to
pick her battles, showing love for her family by serving them, and following her heart to make the
hard decisions regardless of the opposition. The opening scene has Sarah Penn picks her battles in a
conversation with her husband. A glimpse is given of Adoniram, the husband s feelings about the
conversation he knows is coming. It must have been a familiar battle between them; he is unwilling to
discuss, and she is unwilling to leave until she gets answers. She exudes a quiet strength, as she stands
waiting, her physical characteristics are described But her eyes, fixed upon the old man, looked as if
the meekness had been the result of her own will, never the will of another. (Freeman 145). She is a
woman who understands the rules of society regarding her gender and she knows when and where to
pick her battles. Later in the story, Sarah again shows strength in knowing when to pick her battles
with her husband. She speaks up when she must and stays silent when she recognizes the

  • 2. Sexual Harassment In The Military Introduction Sexual harassment still runs deep in today s military and is still a major issue as we are well into the 21st century. More and more working Americans face the problems of being victims of sexual harassment every day at work environment. College students also have to deal with sexual harassment at the school front from fellow students and college professors. Active duty military men and women have to deal with sexual harassment in the military service. Reports of sexual harassment derive from slaves accusing slave owners of sexual harassment. Law Professor Anita Hill accused Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment back in 1991. Sexual harassment continues in every part of society all around the world and will be a hard one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only did the Israeli military have to worry about whether or not their female military members could do the same job but also they had to deal with sexual harassments happening from both their men and the men in the Arab army if the women were ever captured. Israelis has always feared for their women who were taken prisoners of war and the psychological effects that followed. (Lief, Second Class in the Israeli Military , U.S. News World Report) Sexual harassments in the military is happing at a rapped rate in the United States armed forces too and according to an recent news article in the New Scientist more women in the military have reported sexual assault by colleagues on deployment than men. Of the nearly 4,000 members of the U.S. armed forces to report sexual harassment or assault, 88% of them were women. (Grossman, The Right to Fight ) Even though things are still being done to prevent things from happening there is no way that it will completely stop sexual harassment or assault and since women are the ones getting hurt by it the most they will continue to feel the effects psychologically and physically by this. It is very possible for women to get harassed who are in potential combat roles and for them to go into a fight with psychological issues will not to be a good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Canada s Pipeline System Has An Enviable Safety Record Natural Resources Canada ( NRC ) estimates there are 100,000 Km of large diameter oil and gas transmission lines in Canada, about 73,000 Km of which are federally regulated by the National Energy Board ( NEB ). Canada s pipeline system has an enviable safety record. The NRC reports that between 2009 and 2013, 99.999% of the crude oil and petroleum products carried by NRC regulated pipelines were delivered safely and between 2011 and 2013, 100% of products released by these pipelines were recovered safely. Canada depends heavily on these pipelines to move oil and gas to ports, refineries, businesses, and homes across the country. Their safe operation is central to the Canadian way of life. Electronic attacks against pipelines around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Natural gas pipelines in British Columbia were bombed six times between October 2008 and July 2009 by unknown perpetrators in acts classified by authorities as environmentally motivated domestic terrorism. As alarming as these events are, physical attacks on pipelines are far easier to predict, prevent, and resolve than cyber attacks. Sophisticated hackers have expanded their threat matrix to include cyber attacks on the computer systems used to operate the world s pipelines. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition ( SCADA ) systems are increasingly subject to targeted attacks. Cyber attacks can be perpetrated over the Internet from anywhere in the world and are capable of disrupting safe pipeline operation causing spills, explosions, or fires. The 2008 explosion on the Baku Tbilisi Ceyhan oil pipeline in Turkey was reportedly caused by a cyber attack. In 2012, the Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team of the US Department of Homeland Security identified a series of cyber attacks on American natural gas pipelines that had continued for more than a year. The pipeline companies reported targeted phishing attempts and intrusions into multiple natural gas pipelines positively identified ... as related to a single campaign. • 4. Lutheran Social Services Case Study Children s Home Society of Minnesota The social service I wanted to learn more about was Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota. In 2012, Children s Home Society and Lutheran Social Services combined forces in their adoption services to provide quality programs to families. They are an organization that provides social services for adoption, pregnancy, post adoption, global support and educational services in Minnesota. Their mission is to provide care and match children to homes. I had no idea there were so many things to consider when you are deciding whether to place a child in adoption, foster care programs and to adopt a child either locally or internationally. For pregnant mothers, they provide resources to help should they choose parenting or adoption. For potential fathers, they provide the resources for them to protect against their child getting adopted until a DNA test, allowing them an opportunity before this decision is made. • 5. Reasons Of The Crusades The Crusades were a series of military conflicts in which European Christians went to the Near East to reclaim territories lost by the Byzantine Empire to Islamic Caliphates. An historical debate arising from this period is what motivated the Crusaders to attempt this undertaking. Some view the Crusades as religious wars motivated by the differences between Christianity and Islam, particularly with regards to the control of sites and cities sacred in both religions. Others have seen the Crusades as a war for territorial expansion that merely employed the rhetoric of religious conflict. This paper will examine this historical debate with reference to two opposing academic articles. It will argue that the motivations that led to the Crusades ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The collapse of the Roman Empire in Western Europe had fragmented political authority into feudal kingdoms which were ostensibly loyal to the Catholic Church. In practice, these kingdoms pursued their own goals and sometimes came into conflict with one another. At the same time, the decline of the Byzantine Empire and the rapid expansion of the Caliphate meant that many cities and locations central to Christianity were under the control of an Islamic empire. The Crusades were a specific kind of military mission called for by the Catholic Church to reconquer the Holy Land (Horowitz 174). In this sense, their purpose was to take control of territory based on a religious motivation. At the same time, however, the Crusades were also motivated by the acquisition of territory for the purpose of extended secular rule. Contemporary Crusades in the Iberian Peninsula, parts of the Byzantine Empire, and, eventually, in Northern and Eastern Europe, were about capturing territory that had no particular religious significance (Blaydes Paik 554). Even in the Near East, Crusaders established states modelled on European kingdoms and attracted settlers from Europe. Thousands of people were motivated to participate in the Crusades, but it is disputable whether religion or territory were the primary motivations for these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Improvements in the Quality of Life of the Hearing Impaired: Modern Technologies Impact Improvements in the Quality of Life of the Hearing Impaired: Modern Technologies Impact The hearing impaired, including people who are deaf and are hard of hearing, have a wide variety of technology presented to them to improve their lifestyles. Researchers and manufacturers have improved their products and psychologists, who specialize in deaf studies, have improved techniques to expand the possibilities the hearing impaired have. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The organization states that this implant can not restore normal hearing, instead it can give the person a useful representation of sounds in the environment and help them to understand speech. With all of these pieces the cochlear implant works very different from a hearing aid. Hearing aids amplify sound so they may be detected by damaged ears, while cochlear implants bypass the damages and directly stimulate the auditory nerve. The signals generated by the implant are sent to the auditory nerve, which then send the signals to the brain. The brain then recognizes the signals as sound. According to the NIDCD (2013a) the cochlear implant can be helpful to many different people. Both children and adults can be fitted for cochlear implants and as stated by the Food and Drug Administration, as of December 2012, approximately 324,000 people have cochlear implants worldwide. In the U.S. alone, about 58,000 adults and 38,000 children have them. Adults who have lost their hearing often benefit from cochlear implants due to the signs they receive can easily be associated with sounds they have heard before with practice. Children who receive implants also strive, especially when the implant is paired with sign language and post implantation therapy. The organization says most get their implants ... Forrester leaving his house in the first place, takes a lot of courage since he does not know what was going to happen. It is a challenge for him then to be all alone instead of with Jamal. His courage was tough to build up, as Jamal found, but eventually he gains the courage to hop back into the real world. According to Movielocity (2001), Compelled to look past skin color and suppositions, Jamal encounters not only his first fan, but a mentor who will challenge and change him forever, and Forrester has his first reason in years to emerge from his self imposed solitude (p.1). Despite their extreme differences, Jamal and Forrester exchange courage in different ways, they challenge each other to go outside of their box. These men have to challenge one another harshly in order to push the courage out of eachother. They are scared of the consequences, but eventually gain the courage. This matters because them being together rises the level of courage that they have, despite how hard it is. Geyer takes a look into what is at the core of the problem that has physicians not connecting the dots on clinical documentation. She also addresses what can be done to ease the situation as we move forward in this EHR era. According to Health Information Management Technology: An Applied Approach (pg120), the documentation found in health records is crucial as evidence of services provided and the quality of those services. This has become so important that many healthcare setting have initiated clinical documentation improvement programs. With a growing and ageing population in need of quality healthcare, timely and accurate clinical documentation is critical to a successful healthcare system. So the scene that Sun goes upstairs to meet the phantom Song is both an end of the ten year nightmare of Song, and a starting of a new story of revenge and revolution. Literature makes it accessible for the reader to explore the themes of war. Owen and Remarque both dipcik what war was like for one who has never gone through it. Men in both All Quiet on the Western Front and Dulce Et Decorum experience betrayal of youth, horrors of war and feelings of camaraderie. While the young men at the ages of eighteen to twenty signed up for the war they believed that they were going to have a well off time, meanwhile the older generation is betraying them. The amorphous behavior of glass substrate with a continuous curve ~20Ëš to 35Ëš in 2θ range was depicted in figure 3(a) and was clearly evidenced in ZnO coated substrates. A comparatively low intensity and broadness in diffraction peaks was observed in single layer deposited ZnO thin film figure 3(b) , which revealed that film consist of coarse fine grains with nanocrystallinity. However in Rietveld refinement the peaks profile is fitted using Pseudo Voight functions, which is linear combination of Gaussian and Lorentzian functions. The internal strain (ε) may arise from the chemical reaction involved in the growth process of ZnO films and having negligible effect on peak broadening. The microstructural (crystallite size and lattice strain) and structural (lattice cell constants, atomic positions and occupancies) parameters refinement was performed using the space group P63mc. The values of the crystallite size, strain, and lattice parameter obtained from the Rietveld refinement and Scherrer methods are shown in Table 1. In table 1 the microstructural analysis shows the lattice parameters are well matched lattice constants for the standard values of the hexagonal wurtzite structure of ZnO. Furthermore, the variation of single to five layer coated ZnO film lattice parameters a and c is remarkable, when compared with the standard ZnO, due to the complexity of the hexagonal wurtzite crystal structure of ZnO and anisotropic variation in the crystal lattice. As seen in Table 1, the ratio of the lattice parameters a/c is slightly affected by deposition cycles. However, the unit cell volume of as prepared ZnO film is decreased from 47.598 to 47.501 Ã…3 with increasing the deposition cycle from single to five cycles. Without the brain the rest of the body will suffer. The brain also creates different traits and personalities. How ever when the brain doesn t function properly it will cause many effects to an individual. These effects can range from minimal to severe, depending on what is wrong with the brain. The human brain is protected by a bone structure in a form of a skull. The brain has a light pink, pail, and noodle look to it. It has lines in the brain to section parts of the brain. The brain feels like jello, it s stays in place but squishy. Put to much pressure on it, it will break. The human brain is very sensitive. The Renaissance ideal of harmony, gave way to freer and more imaginative rhythms. During the High Renaissance, architectural concepts derived from classical ancient times were developed, and used with bigger surety. The most representative architect is Bramante (1444 1514), who expanded the applicability of classical architecture to contemporary buildings in a style that was to control Italian architecture in the sixteenth century. Michelangelo s architectural fame lies chiefly in St Peter s Basilica in Rome. St Peter s was the greatest creation of the Renaissance, and a great number of architects contributed their skills to it. Weak enforcement of the regulations set up in the SOWS has allowed countries, most notably Japan, to continue their hunts with little interference. If whaling continues in the SOWS, it may lead to irreversible effects to the ecosystem of the Southern Ocean. Readers are given multiple perspectives of occurrences and challenged to develop their own understanding of them. By creating an interaction between the fictional character of Coalhouse Walker and the factual character of Booker T. Washington immediately goes on a rant, condemning Coalhouse for falling to the violent means of action. A trend that is developing in entertainment media today is the objectification of women in society. Specifically in indian movies, music videos, music, and television, there is strong focus on women as sexual objects rather than women. This is detrimental to society because the media is creating social stereotypes for both men and women that can result in unhealthy social and physical habits. The issue is especially prevalent because the more the media uses sexual content regarding women, the more viewers seem to buy into them. Thus, the media is able to shape the culture s sense of dating, romance, sex, and what is ideal within society. There have been many times over the past decades were overt forms of oppression have been present when a dominant religious group takes over a subordinated group. The reading talked about how dominant religious would punish individuals who went against their religion and tried to force others out so they would be on top. A topic that really enforced this type of oppression is the marginalization of the Catholic religion. It is preposterous that some students need to be excused from school just to celebrate any over their religious holidays. I could not believe that so much of our school system is centered on a Christian denomination. Firms in retail can usually increase their gross profit margin if they can differentiate themselves from their competitors and charge a higher price for roughly equivalent products. Staples has pulled ahead of Office Depot in recent years, mostly owing to a drop in Office Depot s margin from roughly 30% to about 24%.
