A Common Trope Within International Relations That Is Often
A common trope within international relations that is often discussed by analysts and average
individuals alike, is the inevitable decline of American power. Delving into this trope in his book, IS
THE AMERICAN CENTURY OVER?, Joseph S. NYE, JR, argues that the period of American pre
eminence in military, economic, and soft power resources is not over (116). In structuring his
argument, Nye first analyzes Europe, Japan, Brazil, and India and their potential role in challenging
America s ability to maintain an international order. Then, Nye turns his attention towards China, and
comparatively analyzes its military, economic, and soft power to that of the United States. Conversely,
Nye explores potential American responses to China s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within these terms, Nye contextualizes his argument. For example, Nye explains that though China s
economic and military power allow it to be a more of a potent threat than other challenger, it has a
host of domestic issues, ranging from an underdeveloped countryside to rapid industrialization (50).
Even if China were to overcome its domestic problems, which would translate to an increase in
Chinese economic power, a preponderant role for China in the world economy would not equate to a
Chinese hegemony. It s political and military actions would still have to account for the United States.
Through dissecting how any economic advantage China has over America is negligible, as it comes at
a price for it as well, Nye makes the argument that interdependence constrains China into working
with America in maintaining the international order, rather than working against it. As the United
States derives power from the dollar, much has been said about China s massive holding of dollars,
and how it could potentially use it as a bargaining chip in its relationship with the United States.
However, Nye claims that in the interdependent relationship between the nations, power depends on
asymmetries in interdependence (54). Thus, if China were to dump its dollars on world financial
markets, it could bring America to its knees, but it would also bring

Social Anxiety Disorder ( Sad )
Social Anxiety Disorder Affecting One s Life Social anxiety disorder (SAD), also known as social
phobia, is the most common mental illness in the United States. About 40 million people suffer from
this mental disorder. Many tend to confuse this disorder with shyness and nervousness, which are not
considered a part of the phobia. Having a SAD can interfere with one s daily life cycle. People who
have SAD often starts to develop this illness during their childhood and adolescence years. Patients
are affected with this mental illness for many years before being diagnosed. Past experiences in a
person s childhood can form and shape their lives so that they may end up having social anxiety
disorder. Some past experiences like bullying, depression and low self esteem can lead to the fear of
socially interacting or communicating with other people. There are many cases of bullying that cause
people to grow this disorder. Bullying is one of the main causes of Social Anxiety Disorder. The
different types of bullying all have a different effect in the disorder, such as verbal, cyber, and physical
bullying all have different causes. Verbal bullying can cause people to start to think wrongly of
themselves. They also start to believe that the things that the people are saying could possibly be true.
This intertwines with the cyber portion of the bullying. Cyber bullying also causes people to think that
the things people are electronically saying are true. Also, just as verbal bullying,

It is Curry night in the our household. An outsider will be puzzled, because there are several dishes
that are completely different. Is the food Indian? Is the food Thai? What is that other stuff, I don t

curry in itself. Faisal is from Northern India and his food perspective is influenced by Pakistan as

Generally Chinese curries are severed over rice. Chinese curry is tends to be watery unlike other Asian
curries. It is believed that curry was introduced to China from Singapore or Malaysia. China s most
popular curry dish is curry noodles or curry mee.
What may be surprised to know is that Japanese Curry is one of the most popular dishes in Japan.
Curry was introduced to Japan by the British, around 1868, after Japan ended its policy of isolation.
Japan s Army and Navy can be contributed to spreading the popularity of curry. The army and navy
adopted it extensively as convenient field and naval canteen cooking. The Japan Maritime Self
Defense Force traditionally has curry every Friday for lunch. Ships may have their own unique recipe,
but Kare Raisu is a typical canteen style dish that would be served and is made up of a brown curry
sauce with raisins, generally served with rice. Curry seasoning is commonly sold in the form of a
condensed brick that dissolves into the mixture of meat and vegetables. This form of curry can be
found in many U.S. grocery stores. The standard curry found in Japan contains onions, carrots,
potatoes and a meat that is cooked in a large pot. Japanese curry is more of a stew like consistency.
Pork and beef are the most popular meats in curry followed by Chicken. In northern and Eastern Japan
you tend to see more pork based curry. Beef is more common in western Japan.

Impact Of Near Zero Marginal Cost Approach On The Non...
The Impact of Near Zero Marginal Cost Approach in the Non Qualified Benefits Insurance Market
From the moment U.S. Corporations started to remove liabilities associated with the existence of
pension plans, the private sector has been in a struggle to find strategies to provide adequate funds for
retirement in compliance with IRS regulations, while being competitive in employee payouts. The
Retirement market is a thriving market that has grown at an average annual rate of 5.6% to total $9.2
trillion over the five years to 2014 (Goddard, 2014), despite its lack of dynamicity due to heavy
regulatory climate. The Benefits market in the U.S. is a complex arena defined largely by income
levels: for those in the upper tiers, earning above $254,188 (Seelig, n.d.) , Non Qualified (NQ)
Benefits and sophisticated financial strategies are the answer: levels of contribution can be high, but at
a high implementation cost. For the ones the lower end, usually under $116,042 (Seelig, n.d.)1,
standard options such as 401(k) and IRAs are a cost effective way to keep their retirement assets
covered. Nonetheless, even these low end, safe harbors are being re evaluated: due to recent economic
crisis, ability of retirees to tap into such funds is making them an unsafe vehicle to fulfill aging
population needs (Siedle, 2013). However, the dilemma comes for the middle market: individuals
whose wealth is not enough to offset the cost of implementing leading edge retirement vehicles, but at

Introduction:
The definition of the Art Director is well described by Shorter, G (2012, p 7), where she highlights
that the title encompasses the concept, design, creation and arrangement of all visual elements in a
screen narrative and ensures that all conceptual ideas run consistently and coherently throughout the
story.
As regards to the role I was taken, my original title in the film was the Art Director. However, due to
the lack of people applied for the Costume Designer, Prop Manager and Production Designer roles, I
was responsible to take care of the actions required from each of these roles. My personal experience

What was tribute?
The administrative costs of the empire were met by tribute. Most tribute sent to the treasuries of Persia
was in the form of manufactured goods and metals, especially silver and gold dust. It could also be
given in the form of produce, where the amount for each satrapy was worked out on the basis of the

The Effects Of Traffic Congestion
Traffic congestion in the United States is becoming increasingly salient to citizens, private companies,
and government actors. Traffic congestion, particularly on major highways and interstates, increases
with economic development and production. First, as the economy develops, workers income rises.
Public transportation is an inferior good in that a person s demand for it decreases as their income
rises. Thus, as workers in a growing economy gain income, they begin to purchase vehicles, which
leads to more drivers on the roads (Road Congestion). A second way in which economic growth
affects traffic congestion is through business and other urban development. As a city s borders expand
with new businesses and residential areas, the amount of people increases quickly, while new
infrastructure to sustain them follows slowly behind in a dragging effect. To worsen the problem, these
new businesses have new employees who travel on the same roads at the same time of day, which
further leads to congestion during peak hours (Winaisathaporn).
It is important to understand that traffic congestions are more than an annoyance to the daily
commuter, but a huge negative externality on society. A negative externality is a cost imposed on a
person due to the productivity or actions of another person. As established, congestion is directly
caused by economic development by the government and private firms. But what does traffic
congestion cost us? An article summarizing results from the

Research Paper On Guy Fawkes
Guy Fawkes
Guy Fawkes is one of England s most famous criminals; the man most closely associated with the
group of English Catholics who planned the failed Gunpowder Plot of November 5th 1605. Even
though Fawkes wasn t the leader of the conspiracy, he was given the important task of lightening the
fuse to the gunpowder.
Guy Guido Fawkes was born in April 1570 in Stonegate in York, England. Fawkes grew up in York
with his parents Edith and Edward Fawkes, and his three siblings. However, Fawkes father died in
1578, and a couple of years later, his mother married the recusant Catholic Denis Bainbridge. Living
with Bainbridge and attending St. Peter s School in York at the same time is most likely the main
reasons why Guy Fawkes decided to convert ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to catch the plotters, Cecil decided not to invade the cellar until the very last minute,
expecting some of the plotters to be in position only then.
Guy Fawkes even tried to light the fuse when he saw the soldiers coming, but he got overpowered.
Fawkes was taken directly to the Tower of London and was tortured until he confessed the crime and
gave up the names of the rest of the group.
Guy Fawkes was sentenced to the traditional traitors death; to be hanged, drawn and quartered .
However, on January 31st 1606, Fawkes jumped from the gallows and broke his own neck. This way,
he wasn t alive when his stomach was cut open and his guts spilled before his eyes. The remains of
him was chopped up and sent to the four corners of the kingdom as a warning to the people.
Today, the failed Gunpowder Plot is celebrated as Bonfire night all over Britain, with fireworks and
big fires. This tradition first started when the people of London lit fires to celebrate the safety of the
King. It is also common to burn effigies of Guy Fawkes on the bonfire, which makes some wonder
whether the Brits are celebrating Fawkes execution or honoring his attempt to do away with the

Dermal Fillers Research Paper
What is a Dermal Filler
There are a number of factors which can impact your skin s appearance: sun exposure, hormonal
changes and aging all can play a part in your skin losing Hyaluronic acid and collagen. Once this starts
to happen your skin is more prone to fine lines, wrinkles and a loss of fullness and elasticity.
The good news is that Serene Radiance has a range of dermal fillers that can reverse these signs of
aging by filling in lines and restoring lost volume while enhancing your facial contours and lips for
natural looking results.
All our dermal fillers are Hyaluronic Acid (HA) based. Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring sugar
found in your body. When it combines with the water that exists in your skin it instantly smoothes
lines and wrinkles, restores lost volume in the cheeks and jaw line and can also enhance your lips.
Dermal fillers have also been shown to naturally stimulate collagen production in your skin. ... Show

The Story Of Greek Myth
When the gods were pondering how to win the amrita, the elixir of immortally, Vishnu suggested that
they let the Devas and Asuras churn the ocean so that the elixir, along with all the herms and jewels,
would emerge. They unrooted Mount Mandara and set it on the back of a tortoise and used Vasuki, the
snake, as the rope. Taking each side of the rope, the Asuras and Devas began twirling Mount Madara.
The friction of the churning caused fire, which Indra put out using water from his clouds. Finally, the
sap of all the plants flowed into the ocean, which turned to milk, then to butter, ultimately resulting in
the divine physician Dhanvantari to bear the elixir. The Asuras surrendered the elixir to Vishnu, but he
gave it to the Devas. Rahu snatched a drop but before swallowing it, he was decapitated by Vishnu. ...

This explains why the moon disappears and reappears. The Asuras were enraged and offered battle,
but the gods were victorious and put Mount Mandara back in its proper place. What I personally find
unique in this story is that these powerful gods used a plan to trick others, who were less powerful
than them, to churn the ocean for them. I also find it unique that they wanted the elixir of immortality
when they are already gods and are immortal. I think it s very common in myths for someone to
always be on the search for immortality and/or gaining god like abilities. This would make it a very
popular story because even in today s world, whether it s for science or cosmetic purposes, people are
always looking for the fountain of youth and the answer to living

Toleration is achieved through indifference, by a feeling that any religion might be right, and also by
the fact that nomadic society was accustomed to the practice of many religions. Today, one sixth of the
world and 95 percent of the people of Pakistan are Muslim. Most Muslims in Pakistan take religion
much more seriously than Americans or Europeans do. There are much fewer agnostics or freethinkers
in Pakistan than there are in the West. For most Pakistanis, religion is not so much a matter of
individual belief as it is a matter of revealed truth and a lifetime duty. A quarter of all Pakistanis pray
five times a day. Many more pray at least once a day. The times a day when a crier, or an amplified
taped recording of a crier, gives the azan, or prayer call, are just before dawn, after noon, an hour
before sunset, about an hour after sunset, and about two and a half hours after sunset. Before entering
a mosque (a Muslim temple) men take their sandals off at the entrance. (Women usually do not go to
mosques.) Then they wash their hands and feet at an outdoor basin before and imam (priest) leads
them on prayer. A rural imam is usually a poorly educated man who teaches children to read the Qur

The Sarbanes Oxley Act ( Sox )
The Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX) was put into legislation on July 30, 2002 by President George W.
Bush, for the purpose of regulating the financial practices and a host of other corporate and securities
issues for all publically traded organizations. Essentially, it was an attempt to impose tighter controls
on the financial reporting, to try and provide more transparency in financial reporting, and to hold
people accountable in the financial reporting. (Dewey, 2012). It s important to note that the SOX law
applies to all companies registered under Section 12 of the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934.
Privately held and non for profit companies are not impacted by the SOX law, however many have
elected to voluntarily comply with the legislation. The law was enacted due to several corporate
scandals in early 2000 2002; Enron, WorldCom and Tyco to name just a few. The early 2000 s will
always be remembered for the deep recession and decline in economic activity, not just in the US, but
in the global marketplace as well. As with any legislation, there are pro s and con s. I believe the law
was the right thing to enact; the problem many see with it is the manner in which it was mandated.
Many would even argue that the law was not needed since we already have laws in place to protect
and prosecute fraudulent behavior, but those were clearly not strict enough given the billions of dollars
that investors lost. I m sure in the near future, we ll see that SOX doesn t

Specific Heat Of Calorimeter Lab Report
John Yu
Meyer
AP Chem
9 October, 2016
In this experiment, hot water was mixed with room temperature water in a calorimeter to calculate the
specific heat capacity of the calorimeter. The specific heat of the calorimeter was then used to find the
enthalpy of sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid, ammonia and hydrochloric acid, and ammonium
chloride and sodium hydroxide by mixing each, respectively, into the beaker after each other. The
beaker was washed with distilled water after each reaction. The enthalpy of sodium hydroxide and
hydrochloric acid and ammonia and hydrochloric acid were subtracted together to calculate the
enthalpy of ammonium chloride and sodium hydroxide to prove Hess Law.
The lab errors that occurred in this lab would be the heat escaping while the reactants were being
added to the calorimeter because there is an opening and way for the heat to escape in that moment.
This caused the reaction to lose heat and energy to the lab and cause the reaction to report less energy
than there should be. Also, some of the heat was lost from the calorimeter because no perfect
calorimeter can exist. This caused the reaction to lose energy as well. The reactants have not ... Show

The Themes Of Sexuality In The Odd Couple By Neil Simon
Sexuality is very difficult to write about, and only the greatest can tackle this class without making the
subject cliche. Neil Simon spent the majority of his life composing plays and making himself as one
of America s greatest authors. With his lifelong commitment to writing came the establishment of
many different themes throughout his works. In The Odd Couple, Simon uses the bonds between the
characters and subtext to display the difficulties of sexuality as well as the progression made through
change. Felix and Oscar, the main characters of The Odd Couple, have long been thought to be
homosexual by readers and critics, yet many are not sure about this idea. The main reason to believe
that the two are gay is that Oscar Madison is a self assured slob, Felix Ungar a sexually inhibited,
obsessively neat neurotic (Teachout). Of course, with this belief that the two may have a more than
platonic relationship comes the skepticism of others. The show itself was set during a time where
many were not openly homosexual, and the two men were once married. This fact dissuades many
from believing the idea that the characters are closeted gay men. Although many do disagree with the
fact that there is queer subtext in the show, it is rather evident if looked at through the perspective of
the men being homosexual. Although there are many skepticisms about the characters sexuality, it can
be shown through the words they say and what they mean that the men have deeper feelings. A

A Literary Analysis Of Alice Walker sThe Color Purple )
Pretty Colors
(A Literary Analysis on Alice Walker s, The Color Purple) Alice Walker was a writer who influenced
many people in her time, and continues to influence a copious amount of people still today
considering she is still living! Her writing explores multidimensional kinships among women and
embraces the redemptive power of social and political revolution. (Whitted) Her works range from
short poems to long novels that have been read by thousands. In each, she presents several messages.
In the novel, The Color Purple, Walker is able to portray three main messages.
The first message in Purple talks about the importance of family. As an adult, Celie s family was
separated from her, and she was the receiver of the aggressive touch of a man throughout her entire
married life. Celie didn t have a family for quite some time in the literal sense, however she found
family with those around her. Those that she became friends with were the ones that became her
home. They took care of her and made sure that she wouldn t make decisions that she would regret for
the rest of her life. When Celie was in a bad situation, Shug was able to get her out of it, and lead
Celie to a place where she could be happy. In the end, Celie s family is all reunited with her and
everything turns out for the best! Believe in good things to come. (Holland) The main message,
however, is that family may not be the people that are related to you through blood or marriage, but
family just might be in the people that take care of you no matter what.
The second message in Walker s story is about courage. While living in an abusive relationship, Celie
depended on her courage to carry her through the trial that was living with her husband. Nothing the
Celie did was ever enough for her husband, and he let her know that by hurting her in many different
ways. While many did not perceive Celie as being courageous, others around her found her courage as
inspiring. People sought to become like her. Celie is given the chance to truly show her courage,
though, when her friend Shug gives her a way out, taking her to a new state. She is able to leave her
abusive husband behind, and start a new life. She becomes successful and shows those around her

Every student engages in high quality instruction in the classroom at the Tier 1 level. In Tier 1,
students get a daily opportunity to learn grade level curriculum and get basic differentiation to support
their needs. The grade level standards are taught using research based, best practices. Teachers may
work with small groups and provide hands on activities to make learning meaningful and relevant to
students. All students receive periodic assessments that allow the teacher to identify if they require
more intense support. Often times, schools will implement a schoolwide screening tool to benchmark

Deforestation Of The Tropical Rainforest
Deforestation of the tropical rainforest in Brazil and surrounding countries
I. Introduction
Tropical rainforests are unique ecosystems with specific features that make them a world patrimony.
Today about forests cover about 31% of the planet s land. However, 46 58 thousand square miles of
forest is destroyed yearly, equivalent to 36 football fields per minute. Besides its ecological value,
they provide several exploitable resources, which make these forests important in an economical
perspective. Most tropical rainforests in the world belong to developing countries, where deforestation
has been recently occurring at high rates due to the development of agribusiness. Brazil, which can

Figure 2 (adapted from data of INPE, 2011) illustrates the evolution of clear cut deforestation in
Amazonia from 1988 to 2011.
Figure 1: General biome classification map for Brazil. The darker green area is the Amazon forest.
Figure 2: Evolution of clear cut deforestation in Amazonia from 1988 to 2011. The reduction from
1988 until 1991 is attributed to the Brazil s economic recession, when the government lacked funds
for road construction and settlement projects. The peak in 1995 is a reflection of an economic
recovery in Brazil, and economic reforms increased the availability of capital. The fall in 1996 and
1997 is a result of falling land values and unattractive land speculation. The increase from 2001 to
2004 is a result of a sharp growth in the international market for soybeans and especially beef
(Fearnside, 2005). From this point, the oscillations between the deforestation rates can be explained by
the fluctuations of beef and soybean prices in the international market, the concession of land in the
agrarian reform (both increasing deforestation), a higher density of conservation units, and penalties
applied by the federal government (both decreasing deforestation).
Grasslands started to substitute rainforest areas in the Amazon for several reasons, and now cattle
ranching is one of the most lucrative activities in this region. The growth of soybean plantations is

Media Kill Anthropology
An image captures a person s physical attributes, but others subject the image to flawed
interpretations. When the media defamed the Syrian s dignity, the Abounaddara collective started
producing videos to convey the proper way of representing their people. The combination of the
Abounaddara exhibition and the articles written about the collective trigger many dormant and
undeveloped ideas. For one thing, this combination elicits ideas that relate to media and a person s
image. In media, a need to fulfill a voyeuristic nature in humans establishes itself as an issue through
the Abounaddara s videos, Media Kill and Kill Them!. In addition, this voyeuristic element involving
the electronic image can associate itself with Chris Burden s Velvet ... Show more content on

When examining the media, their consistent flawed representations speak volumes, especially with the
Syrians. The Abounaddara collective started creating videos to speak for the people of Syria because
the media s representations belittled them. Evidence from the exhibit and articles about the
Abounaddara collective contribute to the ideas pertaining to the voyeuristic and pornographic ways of
the media. Media Kill and Kill Them! expresses Abounaddara s disdain for the media and its method.
Not only do those methods convey the media s selfish intentions, but also demonstrates a voyeuristic
need within humans. Even, Chris Burden s popularity proves a voyeuristic because the need to watch

individuals can create flawed interpretations of their own images. With Peter Campus experiment, the

Comparing The Rocky Horror Picture Show And Naked Lunch
Chinmay Kalluraya PID: A13623530 In this essay, I aim to compare two films: The Rocky Horror
Picture Show and Naked Lunch. I will begin by describing the gist of both stories and shed some light
about their past productions, followed by illustrating The Rocky Horror Picture Show s appeal on
theater, and using examples in the story, its setting and characters, put forth reasons why it would be
better as a theater production as compared to its film version. Next, I will elaborate key attributes that
make Naked Lunch a success on screen as compared to a theater production.
The two films are distinct in every way, with The Rocky Horror Picture Show originally being a 1973
stage production written by Richard O Brien that was adapted ... Show more content on

Regular patrons have the lines committed to memory, and yell back lines during extended pauses
taken by the actors. For example, when Dr. Frank N Furter deliberately extends the word anticipation
during the song Sweet Transvestite , the audiences are prepared to yell Say it! . The audience also has
opportunities to use their props, for instance during the wedding scene in the very beginning, the
audience sprinkles rice on the newlywed couple. After the wedding scene, on the ringing of the bells,
the audience blow bubbles while Brad and Janet have a romantic conversation. Other examples
include covering their heads with newspapers and spraying water using squirt guns on Brad and Janet
during the re enacting of the stormy night, wearing gloves as Dr. Frank wears his while revealing the
story of Rocky s creation and wearing party hats during the guest dinner. The yelling of particular
lines and use of props varies from production to production, but these are classic examples of breaking
the fourth wall, i.e. the imaginary wall between audiences and stage actors. People looking for a
cathartic release enjoy shouting lines as the play unfolds. The on screen version does not facilitate
such interaction between the performers and the viewers.
Another strong reason for a predisposition towards the stage production is the character of The

Fat Head by Tom Naughton and Super Size Me by Morgan Spurlock
As the rising epidemic of obesity has attracted considerable media attention, so has the promotion for
maintaining healthy wellbeing. Tom Naughton s documentary, Fat Head, is a stellar model of this
media attention. It examines the exact cause of weight gain, and the reliability of the Government s
nutritional guidelines. The contention of Fat Head is that the U.S Government and Morgan Spurlock
(the creator of Super Size Me) present misleading information. However, Naughton s bias becomes
apparent through the careful selection of film techniques, and the silencing of certain characters, who
may express opposing viewpoints. The ideal audience of this documentary, parents and concerned
parties such as medical professionals, are invited to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The refuting of Spurlock s criticism of McDonald s is also shown in the scene, where Naughton
requests for Spurlock s food log. In this segment, where there is on screen text accounting the number
of hanged up calls, the audience is positioned to believe that Naughton has been refused repetitively
by the representatives of Super Size Me. From this, viewers are given the impression that Spurlock is
a liar, as Spurlock is unwilling to provide Naughton the food log. While Spurlock is mentioned, but he
himself is not given the opportunity to put forward his point of view. Nowhere in this scene do
viewers hear Spurlock s refusal, or the actual conversation between the agents of Super Size Me and
Naughton. It is clear from this scene that Fat Head is one sided.
Another instance in Fat Head that effectively portrays Spurlock negatively is through the director s
body language while criticising Super Size Me. Much of the time, Naughton has his hands on his hips
with his eyebrows synclined. This gesture connotes anger. Viewers perceive through Naughton s
aggression that the information addresses in Super Size Me is mendacious, readily accepting
Naughton s invited reading. Moreover, the employment of the camera at medium, eye level shot is to
enable viewers to feel as though they are interacting with the real Tom Naughton. This sense of
closeness makes his intended message more convincing.

Comparing The Picture Book And Because Of Winn-Dixie
Introduction
This paper focuses on two books, the picture book and realistic novel. I am hopeful while doing a
critical analysis of these two books that it would help me to create an effective mini library in my
future classroom. I would like to use it as a helpful tool to teach children how to compare the
differences and similarities of the two genres and many more. I have chosen Corduroy as my picture
book and Because of Winn Dixie as my realistic novel to write on this written critique because it
signifies the moral lessons about family importance and friendship.

just by looking on the illustrations.
The mother s reaction when she saw Corduroy missing the button abruptly dismisses him. She directly
judges him that he doesn t look new. The statement gives a huge impact of how we view things,
people, and how narrow minded we are of so many things. I know I am guilty about this and I need
myself to be reminded how to be positive when in the worst situation in our life happened. We should
challenge ourselves to do more and to do better act. This would allow us to show a positive outlook in
life for the children. It would help the children to learn to handle emotions whether it is bad or good. It
could also help us to provide the children some good examples to model ourselves to make them feel
that we are all special in every way and that we are all unique. My view, at that moment Corduroy
knew deep down that he wants somebody to care for him. That is why he is willing to find his missing

This makes sense to Corduroy to look around the departments store maybe he could find the missing

Reflection On Children
Over the course of the semester we have discussed and analyzed several issues and situations that can
create adverse conditions for children. Unfortunately, the society in the U.S. portrays children as being
fragile and vulnerable. Thus, leading to the belief that children require an immense need for protecting
and sheltering from troublesome events. However, as we have progressed through the stories of
several children from various eras and backgrounds. It has become quite clear that the children are
actually quite capable of handling adverse situations. We examined the agonizing conditions of
slavery and prejudice that African American children have endured. For example, in the reading by
Frederick Douglas he explained his awareness of being imprisoned by slavery conditions at a very
young age. It was this level of awareness and understanding of how these actions went against his
basic human rights that afforded him the ability to break free from the atrocities of slavery. Moreover,
it was what allowed him to realize that learning to read was another way to combat and ultimately free
himself from slavery. As he stated [i]t was a grand achievement, and I prized it highly. From that
moment, I understood the pathway from slavery to freedom (Douglas 59). Thus, proving to illustrate
the significant amount of strength and resiliency children do possess. In a society where children are
primarily an afterthought, it is imperative for adults to begin to understand that children

Power Has The Ability To Improve, Or Corrupt Its Holder.
Power has the ability to improve, or corrupt its holder. In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, the
desire for power is illustrated through symbols in the novel, and changes in the boys behavior.
Throughout the boys struggle to survive, their strong thirst for power quickly begins to consume them.
People of authority may use power to their advantage, such as Jack, and it may often corrupts one s
mind. Power is not all bad, though corrupted authority and abuse of power have many consequences,
one of which is the collapse of society. Golding uses symbolism to show how power affects the boys
morals and behavior. The desire and consequences are shown with the conch, Jack vs Henry s view on
power, and the killing of the pig. The conch is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, the way power affects someone is shown within Jack and Henry. Henry has a short
encounter with power, while the consequences are long lasting with Jack. Henry attempts to control
tiny transparent creatures on the shore by talk(ing) to them, urging them, ordering them (61). He is so
fascinated with these creatures and is entranced by the power that he has over them. He desires power,
and finds it when he begins to control these transparencies. His encounter is short, and he cherishes
what little power he had, and does not mind that his orders go unfulfilled. On the other hand, Jack lets
the power go to his head. Jack was obsessed with hunting, and his desire for power had caused him to
lose his identity. Jack wanted to camouflage himself so he d have an advantage over his prey, by
rubbing his face with charcoal. He planned his new face. He made one cheek and eye socket white...he

liberated from shame and self consciousness (64), and it transformed not only his appearance, but his
attitude. The mask allowed Jack to put away all civilized thought, and unfortunately he goes too far
with this. He becomes more mean and demanding towards the boys. He had power over a pig s life,

Human Attraction
A person might think that love is just a feeling for someone else they find attractive, and that it is just
that, a feeling. However, there is a scientific reason why that person is attracted to one person, and not
another. There are many contributing factors to how we are attracted to each other, three of which are
pheromones, major histocompatibility complex(MHC) and genetics. One of the major elements of
human attraction is pheromones. Pheromones are biochemical molecules that can take many different
forms, such as skunk spray, or pheromones in bees that direct them to flowers, or even sex
pheromones. According to Psychology Today, The evaluative sniffing that mammals engage in during
courtship were clues that scent is the chemical equivalent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What many people do not know, is that our genes help us to find a partner. A team lead by Chris
Wedekind at the University of Bern in Switzerland conducted a study to find if MHC variations affect
how women, and how they evaluate the aroma. Chris and his team found something interesting; they
found that women preferred the scent of men with a much different MHC profile, and the women
thought that MHC similar men smelled like their father or brother. Another finding of the team was
that the intensity of the smell is also a factor, with some men with stronger scents being rated lower,
possibly because it is a common signal of disease. It was also noted that men with unusually sweet
smells were often rated low, because it is a common sign of schizophrenia. Overall, our genes are very
important for choosing the right mate the first time and making sure that that person is the right one.
All in all, pheromones, MHC, and genes all play important parts in finding our true love. They are
also important for the survival and health of us and our offspring. However we look at it, love is a
potent force that can be more powerful than the drive to stay alive. Some people will do virtually

In the Introduction to Free Will Robert Kane explains freedom of will is having nothing preventing a
person from making their own choice or decision with full freedom (6). There is an inevitable relation
between accountability, free will, and personal responsibility. According to free will, individuals are
able to make their own decision regardless of outside or higher powers. Therefore, free will would
make Cosby accountable for his actions because he chose to commit the crime and was not force to by
external powers.
On the other hand, hard determinist would support determinism to explain why an individual is not
personally responsible for their actions. Kane explained that there is freedom to make choices but the

Dangers And Dangers Of Phobias
There are many obstacles to be faced in the world we live in today. Do you realize though that many
of these so called obstacles , whether they be big or small, are merely fears that have escalated in
status in our subconscious? As humans most of us live a very structured, nearly robotic, day to day
life. We wake up in the morning, we got to school, work, or other hobbies, then we come home, go to
bed, and if we are lucky, we do it all over again the next day.
Sometimes though, throughout our tedious lives we are interrupted by those pesky obstacles that I
mentioned before. Interestingly enough, some of these obstacles can be describe as phobias. A phobia
is an irrational and excessive fear of an object or situation. These phobias can range dramatically from
simply distracting to life altering.
Luckily most of us suffer from seemingly less harmful phobias that may not trigger an emotional
outpour every day of our lives. Due to the unlikeliness of confrontation some people are able to live
their lives avoiding phobias they might have procured. For example, a more common phobia known
would be Coulrophobia, the fear of clowns. Although you may be completely terrified of clowns, you
do not wake up every morning knowing you have to face one. You do however have to draw comprise
whenever carnival time comes around. Even though you may completely adore the amenities of a
festival you steer clear of the park to avoid any clowns, sacrificing amusement to bypass fear.

merged this tradition with innovation to create paper of unsurpassed beauty and quality. Despite the
speed and economic advantages of machine made paper, traditional handmade paper grasps its hold on
the modern world, and mills across North America and Western Europe have re emerged to produce
fine handmade papers for artists, bookmakers, and conservators who seek the highest level of
durability, permanence, and aesthetics.
Hand papermaking in the Western world fell into decline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This change from rags to less stable wood pulp, alongside an increased use of fillers such as bleach
and optical brighteners, resulted in a vastly inferior paper than the handmade paper of preceding
centuries.
While the materials rather than the method of production ultimately determine the quality and
longevity of any paper, handmade paper exhibits many desirable qualities that can only be emulated in
machine made paper with difficulty, if at all. Some of these qualities can be attributed to physical
differences between handmade and machine made papers. The unidirectional movement of the belt of
the papermaking machine, for example, results in a strong grain direction of the paper fibers. In
handmade paper, on the other hand, the vat man typically shakes the mould in four directions, so the
resulting sheet displays little to no grain direction (Hunter 455). As a result of this difference,
handmade paper is said to have a drape or flow that is unmatched by machine made paper (Meirhusby
62). Much of the draw of handmade paper, however, involves the much more subjective aesthetic
character of each sheet of paper. Silvie Turner summarizes this quality as the beauty, the vitality, the
depth, the design, the character and expressiveness, the level of skill involved, the difference of a
handmade sheet (Turner 41), while Walter Hamady calls it simply voice (Vander Weele). No matter
how you describe it in words, handmade paper shows

Comparing Bhagavad-Gita And The Bible
Around the world numerous religions exist and are followed by individuals seeking for peace and
enlightenment. Throughout each religion the influence of the Bhagavad Gita is present and overlaps
teachings especially to the Bible. The teachings presented in the Bhagavad Gita: The Song of God are
similar to the teachings found in the sacred scriptures of Christian religious traditions. The Bhagavad
Gita and the Bible are both comprised of collected narratives and verses which reveal lessons. The
Bible reveals aspects depicted in both tales and commandments which portray the goals an individual
should strive for to achieve peace. Christians believe in God for salvation and to do so must relinquish
sin, physically and mentally.
The Bible is shared in two texts, the old and new testament, which present teachings before and after
the birth of Jesus. The teachings are a collection of narratives such as the Bhagavad Gita, which are
tales revealing lessons of conduct. Both collection of narratives emphasizes the devotion an individual
must follow to be united with their God. To follow the religion, the person must prove themselves
worthy and live their life for the complete devotion of their God. People who can t fulfill their
devotion are condemned to a sinful life and are refused salvation. The gunas from the Bhagavad ...

Arjuna during his conversation with his charioteer, didn t realize he was talking to Krishna, the
supreme God. Krishna revealed himself to Arjuna and confessed to him that he was all superior

Christianity, God views and protects the followers from sin and during the time of need. Krishna
explains to Arjuna his role after death as when a man leaves his body his consciousness absorbed in
me he will be united with me (B G, p.87). Both Gods promise an afterlife with eternal

It has one nose landing gear leg and two main landing gear legs that are placed under the wing and
retract into the fuselage. 1.1.1 Tricycle gear layout The tricycle gear (figure 1.1) consists of one nose
landing gear leg and two main landing gear legs. When using a tricycle gear, around 13% of the total
weight of the airplane acts down on the nose landing gear and 87% acts down on the main landing
gear. The weight distribution depends on the position of the center of gravity. The center of gravity on
the A320 must be between 17% and 38, 5% on the Mean Aerodynamic Chord (MAC). The location of
the MAC can be calculated using the aircraft s dimensions . Figure 1.1 Airbus 320 Landing gear
layout The advantage of the tricycle gear is the stabilizing momentum during touchdown when the
aircraft s longitudinal axis is not parallel to the runway. The drag created by the two main gear wheels
is parallel to the motion direction (figure 1.2). This means there is no momentum created however the
drag that works on the two main gear wheels to the side creates a negative momentum. This
momentum turns the aircraft parallel to the runway again. Fig 1.2 Tricycle gear Another advantage of
the tricycle gear is that the aircraft is in a horizontal position when parked on the ground. Unlike the
conventional landing gear configuration which has a tail wheel instead of a nose wheel. With the tail

Comparing Frankenstein And Adam
Compare and Contrast Frankenstein and Adam There are differences and similarities in the creation
story of Adam and Victor s creature. Victor Frankenstein and God created beings and put them in the
world. Adam and the creature Victor Frankenstein created resembles each other because, they were
alone, unique, and beings created. The creation of Frankenstein s monster parallels the creation of
Adam in many ways. First of all, both Adam and the monster were created because of love. God loved
the world and He thought that he needs to create a human being who was to take care of the beautiful
earth. The bible says that, God loved humanity and that is why he created man (Adam) in His image
and put him in the Garden of Eden which had everything he needed (Gen. 2:7 9). Adam was placed in
the Garden of Eden and warned not to eat from Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil . On the

no creature like him and asked is God (his creator), to create him a companion just like him. Both
Adam and the creature felt an urge of having companions who were created just like them in their
image. The main difference between Adam and the creature is their creators. Adam was created by
God and given directions on how to live in the world. In contrast, after Victor created the monster, he
left it wandering all alone in the world without any instructions or companion. In addition, after God
created Adam, he was very happy about his creation and that is why He took care of him and gave him

Officer Discretion
The topic of this week had a few questions concerning officer discretion and the amount that officer
could exhibit in the course of their job. Where does the line between officer discretion and obligation
does began and end? The answer is about as clear as mud and varies depending on the interaction.
After reading a post from a fellow classmate I was informed that he had the discretion to asses a
warning citation in light of a teenager observed to by the officer breaking many traffic laws. He had
the ability issue a warning in the event the teenager informed his father of the incident and his father
gave the officer a call to verify. This was in total contrast to the traffic stop that occurred a few months
prior that I witnessed. My girlfriend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The act could by some be that the officer chose a utilitarian stance. The officer at the time was
engaged in removing the angry protestor from the event to allow the event to continue. That was in
fact a part of his duties to maintain order consider the safety of the candidate as it was his event. The
officer may have felt that to engage the individual that threw the elbow would have allowed the
protestor to escape and possibly cause harm to himself or the individual guilty of the assault. Or
perhaps the officer simply felt that the situation best be handled at a later date. All or none of these
considerations could have passed through the officer s mind because he certainly was aware of the
multiple television cameras as well as the cell phone cameras that were in and around the event. I don
t know whether the officer made a good decision I do know there was no riot and not addition harm to
either individual and there was an arrest made after the event and the guy admitting the assault on
camera as well as hinting the possibility for murder. The answer of leeway in the day to day
enforcement law still is not well defined. From the conflicting statements of two experienced
patrolmen to a broadcast on national television of what could be considered turning a blind eye the
jury is still out. There are very few

Apple s Strategies For Global Tax Minimization
APPLE S STRATEGIES FOR GLOBAL TAX MINIMIZATION
Intercompany transactions could occur across national borders, it would lead MNC companies to get
more exposure to the differences of the tax regulations between countries. This might lead MNC
companies to set up their objective to minimize their taxes through the use of discretionary transfer
prices. These issues are attracted the attention of the member of the U.S. senate, foreign governments
and international organization such as the OECD, G20 and European Union (EU).
Apple Inc. is one of the companies implementing tax minimization strategies to lower taxes. Apple
received a lot of criticism from various parties (media, governments, and international organizations).
It is because the estimation of tax savings from the company are very high as its worldwide earnings
are so high. Apple set up new companies in tax havens country and shifts the profit to those
companies. This article will give an explanation on how Apple Inc. lower its taxes through
international tax minimization strategies.
Apple profits is not generated from physical goods but from royalties of intellectual property like
patent. It is similar to other giant technology companies such as Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Amazon,
and Hewlett Packard. It allows them to move their profits very easy to their subsidiaries in the lower
tax jurisdiction, since their products are downloadable and can be sold from anywhere around the
world. They don t need a physical store or

The Human Body And All The Organ System
The human body is in a constant state of movement even when seemingly still. This constant
movement is crucial for the human body and all the organ systems it contains. Movement although
overlooked is more complicate than many would believe. The human body has many functions which
are maintained by the movement of muscles and blood, as well as other bi products of the organ
systems. The Integumentary, Cardiovascular, and Tissue systems are capable of movement both
internal and external allowing for the continuous cycle that keeps the human body functioning.
The most important system that relies on movement is the Cardiovascular system. The Cardiovascular
system is mainly composed of the heart, blood vessels, and about 5.5 liters of blood. ()The system
itself is constantly moving, internally and externally.() The heart itself is a muscular pumping organ
that helps with the transport of oxygen and waste via the blood system. () Specifically the pulmonary
circulation, composed of the right atrium and ventricle, is primarily used to transport deoxygenated
blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs in which the blood is filled with oxygen, returning to
the heart and then transported by the systemic circulation, composed of the left atrium and ventricle,
which carries the blood to the rest of the body. ()The systemic circulation also carries waste away
from the tissue and carries deoxygenated blood back to the heart.() Blood vessels are also a part of this
process because

Another great influence that has provided my life with a lot of ease and that is the invention or the use
of computers for trains. An electronic train time table provides me with quick easy to read access for
when and where trains are coming and going when I go out with family or friends to different parts of
England. The major issue with these is there accuracy they can be very inaccurate at times, along with
them not working. This result in mass panic as there is not a reliable back up system to go with this if
for some reason it fails. Impact On Friends and Family TV provides inspiration to my brother who
studies music this is due to the subscription service (Sky) offering TV channels like sky arts and other
media based services. This provides him with help in his studies by being able to study certain
musicians as well as the channels providing lessons and support for musicians out there. It also
provides help for him to unwind for example it gives him access to entertainment channels where he
can watch TV shows like Friends . Also TV provides my Mum access to many channels which were
unavailable when she was younger and helps her to watch some of the programs she has always
wanted to like the Horse Racing and similar programs. TV has provided almost 900 channels since it

Essay About Joining A Sorority
An Open Letter About Joining a Sorority To the Upcoming Freshman Who Doesn t Know if She
Should Rush, Introduction: I know exactly what you are going through. At the beginning of my
freshman year, I swore to myself that I would never join a sorority. I thought it was weird, cult like,
and that I didn t need to pay money to have friends. However, here I am, loving and actively
participating in Delta Gamma, a sorority that was reestablished at the University of Arkansas this year.
When I first joined, I had certain expectations. I expected for me and some of the members to be
somewhat of acquaintances, but thought that most sorority girls were too self absorbed for me to gain
any real, genuine friendships. Basically, I rushed so that I had ... Show more content on

However, if you are looking to be more connected on your college campus and to automatically
belong to a sense of community, joining a sorority is the perfect fit for you. Delta Gamma claims its
mission is to foster ideals of friendship among women , and it is fairly clear through the public
discourse, as well as the discourse meant specifically for Delta Gamma s, that community and
friendship is something that is cherished within the organization. Joining a sorority means that you are
a part of traditions that have been around for decades, thus being connected to something bigger than
yourself. A sorority isn t just something you do for your four years in college, but it is something that
you use as a networking tool and a bond of friendship for as long as you live. It also means having a
forever snow cone run partner, new opportunities to plug yourself into, and girls who are always there
to comment how good you look on your Instagram photos. Those these things may seem infantile,
they are super important and go a long way in making you feel like you are at home at your university,
and that is the exact goal of any sorority. If any of this sounds appealing to you, there should be no
hesitation in

  • 3. A Common Trope Within International Relations That Is Often A common trope within international relations that is often discussed by analysts and average individuals alike, is the inevitable decline of American power. Delving into this trope in his book, IS THE AMERICAN CENTURY OVER?, Joseph S. NYE, JR, argues that the period of American pre eminence in military, economic, and soft power resources is not over (116). In structuring his argument, Nye first analyzes Europe, Japan, Brazil, and India and their potential role in challenging America s ability to maintain an international order. Then, Nye turns his attention towards China, and comparatively analyzes its military, economic, and soft power to that of the United States. Conversely, Nye explores potential American responses to China s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within these terms, Nye contextualizes his argument. For example, Nye explains that though China s economic and military power allow it to be a more of a potent threat than other challenger, it has a host of domestic issues, ranging from an underdeveloped countryside to rapid industrialization (50). Even if China were to overcome its domestic problems, which would translate to an increase in Chinese economic power, a preponderant role for China in the world economy would not equate to a Chinese hegemony. It s political and military actions would still have to account for the United States. Through dissecting how any economic advantage China has over America is negligible, as it comes at a price for it as well, Nye makes the argument that interdependence constrains China into working with America in maintaining the international order, rather than working against it. As the United States derives power from the dollar, much has been said about China s massive holding of dollars, and how it could potentially use it as a bargaining chip in its relationship with the United States. However, Nye claims that in the interdependent relationship between the nations, power depends on asymmetries in interdependence (54). Thus, if China were to dump its dollars on world financial markets, it could bring America to its knees, but it would also bring ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Having a SAD can interfere with one s daily life cycle. People who have SAD often starts to develop this illness during their childhood and adolescence years. Past experiences in a person s childhood can form and shape their lives so that they may end up having social anxiety disorder. Some past experiences like bullying, depression and low self esteem can lead to the fear of socially interacting or communicating with other people. There are many cases of bullying that cause people to grow this disorder. Bullying is one of the main causes of Social Anxiety Disorder. The different types of bullying all have a different effect in the disorder, such as verbal, cyber, and physical bullying all have different causes. The Impact of Near Zero Marginal Cost Approach in the Non Qualified Benefits Insurance Market From the moment U.S. Corporations started to remove liabilities associated with the existence of pension plans, the private sector has been in a struggle to find strategies to provide adequate funds for retirement in compliance with IRS regulations, while being competitive in employee payouts. The Retirement market is a thriving market that has grown at an average annual rate of 5.6% to total $9.2 trillion over the five years to 2014 (Goddard, 2014), despite its lack of dynamicity due to heavy regulatory climate. The Benefits market in the U.S. is a complex arena defined largely by income levels: for those in the upper tiers, earning above $254,188 (Seelig, n.d.) , Non Qualified (NQ) Benefits and sophisticated financial strategies are the answer: levels of contribution can be high, but at a high implementation cost. For the ones the lower end, usually under $116,042 (Seelig, n.d.)1, standard options such as 401(k) and IRAs are a cost effective way to keep their retirement assets covered. Nonetheless, even these low end, safe harbors are being re evaluated: due to recent economic crisis, ability of retirees to tap into such funds is making them an unsafe vehicle to fulfill aging population needs (Siedle, 2013). However, the dilemma comes for the middle market: individuals whose wealth is not enough to offset the cost of implementing leading edge retirement vehicles, but at the ... • 11. The Effects Of Traffic Congestion Traffic congestion in the United States is becoming increasingly salient to citizens, private companies, and government actors. Traffic congestion, particularly on major highways and interstates, increases with economic development and production. First, as the economy develops, workers income rises. Public transportation is an inferior good in that a person s demand for it decreases as their income rises. Thus, as workers in a growing economy gain income, they begin to purchase vehicles, which leads to more drivers on the roads (Road Congestion). A second way in which economic growth affects traffic congestion is through business and other urban development. As a city s borders expand with new businesses and residential areas, the amount of people increases quickly, while new infrastructure to sustain them follows slowly behind in a dragging effect. To worsen the problem, these new businesses have new employees who travel on the same roads at the same time of day, which further leads to congestion during peak hours (Winaisathaporn). It is important to understand that traffic congestions are more than an annoyance to the daily commuter, but a huge negative externality on society. A negative externality is a cost imposed on a person due to the productivity or actions of another person. As established, congestion is directly caused by economic development by the government and private firms. But what does traffic congestion cost us? An article summarizing results from the ... Even though Fawkes wasn t the leader of the conspiracy, he was given the important task of lightening the fuse to the gunpowder. Guy Guido Fawkes was born in April 1570 in Stonegate in York, England. Fawkes grew up in York with his parents Edith and Edward Fawkes, and his three siblings. However, Fawkes father died in 1578, and a couple of years later, his mother married the recusant Catholic Denis Bainbridge. Fawkes was taken directly to the Tower of London and was tortured until he confessed the crime and gave up the names of the rest of the group. Guy Fawkes was sentenced to the traditional traitors death; to be hanged, drawn and quartered . However, on January 31st 1606, Fawkes jumped from the gallows and broke his own neck. • 14. The Story Of Greek Myth When the gods were pondering how to win the amrita, the elixir of immortally, Vishnu suggested that they let the Devas and Asuras churn the ocean so that the elixir, along with all the herms and jewels, would emerge. They unrooted Mount Mandara and set it on the back of a tortoise and used Vasuki, the snake, as the rope. Taking each side of the rope, the Asuras and Devas began twirling Mount Madara. The friction of the churning caused fire, which Indra put out using water from his clouds. Finally, the sap of all the plants flowed into the ocean, which turned to milk, then to butter, ultimately resulting in the divine physician Dhanvantari to bear the elixir. I also find it unique that they wanted the elixir of immortality when they are already gods and are immortal. I think it s very common in myths for someone to always be on the search for immortality and/or gaining god like abilities. Today, one sixth of the world and 95 percent of the people of Pakistan are Muslim. Most Muslims in Pakistan take religion much more seriously than Americans or Europeans do. There are much fewer agnostics or freethinkers in Pakistan than there are in the West. For most Pakistanis, religion is not so much a matter of individual belief as it is a matter of revealed truth and a lifetime duty. A quarter of all Pakistanis pray five times a day. Many more pray at least once a day. The times a day when a crier, or an amplified taped recording of a crier, gives the azan, or prayer call, are just before dawn, after noon, an hour before sunset, about an hour after sunset, and about two and a half hours after sunset. Bush, for the purpose of regulating the financial practices and a host of other corporate and securities issues for all publically traded organizations. Essentially, it was an attempt to impose tighter controls on the financial reporting, to try and provide more transparency in financial reporting, and to hold people accountable in the financial reporting. (Dewey, 2012). It s important to note that the SOX law applies to all companies registered under Section 12 of the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934. Privately held and non for profit companies are not impacted by the SOX law, however many have elected to voluntarily comply with the legislation. The law was enacted due to several corporate scandals in early 2000 2002; Enron, WorldCom and Tyco to name just a few. The early 2000 s will always be remembered for the deep recession and decline in economic activity, not just in the US, but in the global marketplace as well. As with any legislation, there are pro s and con s. I believe the law was the right thing to enact; the problem many see with it is the manner in which it was mandated. Many would even argue that the law was not needed since we already have laws in place to protect and prosecute fraudulent behavior, but those were clearly not strict enough given the billions of dollars that investors lost. • 17. Specific Heat Of Calorimeter Lab Report John Yu Meyer AP Chem 9 October, 2016 In this experiment, hot water was mixed with room temperature water in a calorimeter to calculate the specific heat capacity of the calorimeter. The specific heat of the calorimeter was then used to find the enthalpy of sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid, ammonia and hydrochloric acid, and ammonium chloride and sodium hydroxide by mixing each, respectively, into the beaker after each other. The beaker was washed with distilled water after each reaction. The enthalpy of sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid and ammonia and hydrochloric acid were subtracted together to calculate the enthalpy of ammonium chloride and sodium hydroxide to prove Hess Law. The lab errors that occurred in this lab would be the heat escaping while the reactants were being added to the calorimeter because there is an opening and way for the heat to escape in that moment. This caused the reaction to lose heat and energy to the lab and cause the reaction to report less energy than there should be. • 20. The Themes Of Sexuality In The Odd Couple By Neil Simon Sexuality is very difficult to write about, and only the greatest can tackle this class without making the subject cliche. Neil Simon spent the majority of his life composing plays and making himself as one of America s greatest authors. With his lifelong commitment to writing came the establishment of many different themes throughout his works. In The Odd Couple, Simon uses the bonds between the characters and subtext to display the difficulties of sexuality as well as the progression made through change. Felix and Oscar, the main characters of The Odd Couple, have long been thought to be homosexual by readers and critics, yet many are not sure about this idea. The main reason to believe that the two are gay is that Oscar Madison is a self assured slob, Felix Ungar a sexually inhibited, obsessively neat neurotic (Teachout). Of course, with this belief that the two may have a more than platonic relationship comes the skepticism of others. The show itself was set during a time where many were not openly homosexual, and the two men were once married. This fact dissuades many from believing the idea that the characters are closeted gay men. Although many do disagree with the fact that there is queer subtext in the show, it is rather evident if looked at through the perspective of the men being homosexual. Although there are many skepticisms about the characters sexuality, it can be shown through the words they say and what they mean that the men have deeper feelings. A ... A Literary Analysis Of Alice Walker sThe Color Purple ) Pretty Colors (A Literary Analysis on Alice Walker s, The Color Purple) Alice Walker was a writer who influenced many people in her time, and continues to influence a copious amount of people still today considering she is still living! Her writing explores multidimensional kinships among women and embraces the redemptive power of social and political revolution. (Whitted) Her works range from short poems to long novels that have been read by thousands. In each, she presents several messages. In the novel, The Color Purple, Walker is able to portray three main messages. The first message in Purple talks about the importance of family. As an adult, Celie s family was separated from her, and she was the receiver of the aggressive touch of a man throughout her entire married life. Celie didn t have a family for quite some time in the literal sense, however she found family with those around her. Those that she became friends with were the ones that became her home. They took care of her and made sure that she wouldn t make decisions that she would regret for the rest of her life. When Celie was in a bad situation, Shug was able to get her out of it, and lead Celie to a place where she could be happy. In the end, Celie s family is all reunited with her and everything turns out for the best! Believe in good things to come. (Holland) The main message, however, is that family may not be the people that are related to you through blood or marriage, but family just might be in the people that take care of you no matter what. The second message in Walker s story is about courage. While living in an abusive relationship, Celie depended on her courage to carry her through the trial that was living with her husband. Nothing the Celie did was ever enough for her husband, and he let her know that by hurting her in many different ways. While many did not perceive Celie as being courageous, others around her found her courage as inspiring. People sought to become like her. Celie is given the chance to truly show her courage, though, when her friend Shug gives her a way out, taking her to a new state. In Tier 1, students get a daily opportunity to learn grade level curriculum and get basic differentiation to support their needs. The grade level standards are taught using research based, best practices. Teachers may work with small groups and provide hands on activities to make learning meaningful and relevant to students. All students receive periodic assessments that allow the teacher to identify if they require more intense support. Often times, schools will implement a schoolwide screening tool to benchmark students and determine if they need supplemental instruction to meet grade level expectations. Data collection from these assessments helps to guide teacher instruction and will also help to determine if a student needs more support in one or more academic areas. Figure 1: General biome classification map for Brazil. The darker green area is the Amazon forest. Figure 2: Evolution of clear cut deforestation in Amazonia from 1988 to 2011. The reduction from 1988 until 1991 is attributed to the Brazil s economic recession, when the government lacked funds for road construction and settlement projects. The peak in 1995 is a reflection of an economic recovery in Brazil, and economic reforms increased the availability of capital. The fall in 1996 and 1997 is a result of falling land values and unattractive land speculation. The increase from 2001 to 2004 is a result of a sharp growth in the international market for soybeans and especially beef (Fearnside, 2005). From this point, the oscillations between the deforestation rates can be explained by the fluctuations of beef and soybean prices in the international market, the concession of land in the agrarian reform (both increasing deforestation), a higher density of conservation units, and penalties applied by the federal government (both decreasing deforestation). Grasslands started to substitute rainforest areas in the Amazon for several reasons, and now cattle ranching is one of the most lucrative activities in this region. The yelling of particular lines and use of props varies from production to production, but these are classic examples of breaking the fourth wall, i.e. the imaginary wall between audiences and stage actors. Unfortunately, the society in the U.S. portrays children as being fragile and vulnerable. Thus, leading to the belief that children require an immense need for protecting and sheltering from troublesome events. However, as we have progressed through the stories of several children from various eras and backgrounds. It has become quite clear that the children are actually quite capable of handling adverse situations. We examined the agonizing conditions of slavery and prejudice that African American children have endured. For example, in the reading by Frederick Douglas he explained his awareness of being imprisoned by slavery conditions at a very young age. It was this level of awareness and understanding of how these actions went against his basic human rights that afforded him the ability to break free from the atrocities of slavery. Moreover, it was what allowed him to realize that learning to read was another way to combat and ultimately free himself from slavery. As he stated [i]t was a grand achievement, and I prized it highly. From that moment, I understood the pathway from slavery to freedom (Douglas 59). • 39. The Day Of The Mountain The day started out as usual. Waking up at 5, eating, getting dressed, and leaving. This was no normal day, however. This was the last day of the ski season, and it had snowed a foot in the mountains. I still remember the date, 4/15/13. You could say it was a very good season for the northwest. Stevens pass, which is a resort in Central Washington, had gotten over 5 feet of snow overnight one day in December 2012, which made for a record powder day there. Down by Mt. Hood, where I ski, the same storm that hit the Washington resorts pummelled those resorts. This made for early season conditions that were more like mid late winter, and created a deep snowpack for the whole season. Throughout February and March, several deep days sealed the ... The lower bowl and multorpor had easy to moderate difficulty terrain, the upper bowl and east side are for advanced skiers, and the outback was strictly experts only. I made it my mission to finally conquer this challenging expert terrain. When I got to the top of the upper lift a mile above sea level, I pointed my skis down a wide open but steep powder field, and dropped in. I looped many turns together in the light, fresh snow and it was exhilarating. I zig zagged through many trees, dropped over cliffs, and when I got to the bottom of the lift, I couldn t wait to get back to the top. I knew this was going to be a good day. I continued to make several runs, but I was planning something risky. I wanted to test my ability, so I was to go and ski in the outback finally. This area was not yet open, as evidenced by the avalanche cannons that have been going off all morning. It was only ten or so, and when I got off the lift I had noticed a ski patroller opening the gates to the outback. This moment comes back to me vividly because I can remember the excitement and fear I felt at the same time. I had heard many anecdotal stories about how steep it is, and I had even heard there are no open runs! I later found that this was false information from first hand experience. But, at this time, I seriously thought about how I should approach this problem . So, I asked a ski patroller about the easiest way down in the outback, and he recommended going down the closest ... Contemporary Hand Papermaking in North America and Europe Contemporary Hand Papermaking in North America and Europe The practice of making paper by hand draws forth past centuries in a single sheet of tangled fibers. At the same time, the advances of both contemporary hand papermakers and modern technology have merged this tradition with innovation to create paper of unsurpassed beauty and quality. Despite the speed and economic advantages of machine made paper, traditional handmade paper grasps its hold on the modern world, and mills across North America and Western Europe have re emerged to produce fine handmade papers for artists, bookmakers, and conservators who seek the highest level of durability, permanence, and aesthetics. Hand papermaking in the Western world fell into decline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This change from rags to less stable wood pulp, alongside an increased use of fillers such as bleach and optical brighteners, resulted in a vastly inferior paper than the handmade paper of preceding centuries. While the materials rather than the method of production ultimately determine the quality and longevity of any paper, handmade paper exhibits many desirable qualities that can only be emulated in machine made paper with difficulty, if at all. Some of these qualities can be attributed to physical differences between handmade and machine made papers. The unidirectional movement of the belt of the papermaking machine, for example, results in a strong grain direction of the paper fibers. In handmade paper, on the other hand, the vat man typically shakes the mould in four directions, so the resulting sheet displays little to no grain direction (Hunter 455). As a result of this difference, handmade paper is said to have a drape or flow that is unmatched by machine made paper (Meirhusby 62). Much of the draw of handmade paper, however, involves the much more subjective aesthetic character of each sheet of paper. Silvie Turner summarizes this quality as the beauty, the vitality, the depth, the design, the character and expressiveness, the level of skill involved, the difference of a handmade sheet (Turner 41), while Walter Hamady calls it simply voice (Vander Weele). When using a tricycle gear, around 13% of the total weight of the airplane acts down on the nose landing gear and 87% acts down on the main landing gear. The weight distribution depends on the position of the center of gravity. The center of gravity on the A320 must be between 17% and 38, 5% on the Mean Aerodynamic Chord (MAC). This constant movement is crucial for the human body and all the organ systems it contains. Movement although overlooked is more complicate than many would believe. The human body has many functions which are maintained by the movement of muscles and blood, as well as other bi products of the organ systems. The Integumentary, Cardiovascular, and Tissue systems are capable of movement both internal and external allowing for the continuous cycle that keeps the human body functioning. The most important system that relies on movement is the Cardiovascular system. The Cardiovascular system is mainly composed of the heart, blood vessels, and about 5.5 liters of blood. ()The system itself is constantly moving, internally and externally.() The heart itself is a muscular pumping organ that helps with the transport of oxygen and waste via the blood system. () Specifically the pulmonary circulation, composed of the right atrium and ventricle, is primarily used to transport deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs in which the blood is filled with oxygen, returning to the heart and then transported by the systemic circulation, composed of the left atrium and ventricle, which carries the blood to the rest of the body. ()The systemic circulation also carries waste away from the tissue and carries deoxygenated blood back to the heart.() Blood vessels are also a part of this process because ...
