Differences In David Sedaris Tasteless
In David Sedaris Tasteless, he stresses how the meaning of delicious food throughout his life has
always been important to him. Growing up he ate substantial amounts of food without caring what
it was. As he got older, smoking took a toll on his taste buds. He didn t appreciate the subtle
differences between fine meals and bland meals due to his lack of taste. David had learned how
something with so much value to him, such as food, could considerably lose value.
To begin with, David loved devouring large portions of food, but never really tasted the
differences between foods throughout his life. ... Great fried fish, I d say to my mother, only to
discover that I was eating a chicken breast... (pg. 29). The tastes of different foods blended

The Theology Of The Transcendental Model
that is an uncritical process. On the contrary, as this dialogue occurs, there is a critical analysis
going on. According to Bevans the importance of this dialogue is that the contextual theology that
rises is unique. Unfortunately, the constant threat of this model is that gospel and Tradition can be
watered down and lose their prophetic nature. As consequence of being diluted and losing its
identity, the gospel may also lose its transforming power.
The Transcendental Model
This model is the most difficult to understand. Because, though it seems very anthropological, it is
contingent to an inner human experience. This model depends on affective and cognitive events. In
other words, reality is not something external to be grasped, but it is within ourselves. However,
though in the beginning this exercise seems to rely on a personal or individual activity, this model
is highly communal. Thus, these transcendental events are generated through the person s
interaction with the community. In this model, the closer the person is to his/her local culture the
more prepare s/he will be to theologize. This model opens the way for what Schreiter calls the poet
or local voices. According to Bevans, this model opens the exercise of theologizing to non
professional theologians. Consequently, theology can be found in songs, art and other expressions. A
second strength, this model is not focused on finding the correct answer out there , but it is the
authentication of the inner

Analysis Of Minority Report
The 2002 film, Minority Report, seems to contain the aspects of a Kantian approach, but when
analysing the movie in further detail, does it hold its place? The Pre crime program punishes
individuals for having the intent to murder another, even when the action does not take place. Kant
elaborates his standards pertaining ethics in Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals, where Pre
crime can be further understood. Minority Reporttakes place in the year 2054, crime is virtually
eradicated from Washington D.C. due to the Precrime crew. The program uses three gifted humans,
known as Pre Cogs, to see in the future and predict crimes beforehand. John Anderton, the head of
Precrime, believes that the system is flawless, however, the Pre Cogs... Show more content on

Kant s first proposition is an action has moral worth only if it is done out of duty, such as when
someone who has absolutely no interest in donating to the poor does so out of duty. His second
proposition is that action has moral worth not because of its aim, but because of the maxim on
which it is based, meaning that it would not matter if the intent failed, as long as the principle
was good. His third proposition is that duty is the necessity of an action from respect for the
law, such as if an individual is in an embarassing spot, they could will the lie, but not will the
maxim to lie. Kant argues that everything is secretly done in self benefit, an example can be an
individual helping another merely for the fulfilled feeling. Comparing Kantian aspects to Minority
Report can be done with ease. Kant s second proposition, that an action has moral worth because
of its maxim, can be further understood in the Pre crime stance. The Pre crime organization is in
place in order to stop murders. Individuals, such as Anderton, are sought out to be arrested before
they even comprehend the crime. However, Kant would argue that the arrest is valid due to the fact
that they are capable of such an intention, even if the act was not committed. Emotions are
something people tend to little to no control on, which leads to crime of passion, or the red balls,
being produced. These

Summary of The Lesson Essay
Summary of The Lesson
In this story the author tells us about a girl named Sylvia, the narrator, who lives in a very low
income family. A place where school is not a priority. A place where it is more important to be
strong and hard, than to read a book. This was the thought anyway, before Miss. Moore moved in.
She was a school teacher who took it upon herself to teach the neighborhood kids. On one summer
afternoon in particular she was going to take the kids into town on a field trip. The kids are not
at all happy about this because they know it is summer break and they are not supposed to be in
school in the summer. They would rather be at the pool playin , but Miss. Moore knows that if

Before going into the store, Miss. Moore tells the kids that they should first just look in the
window before going in. Sugar, one of the kids, asks if they can steal as if it were really an
option. Peering thru the window the kids began to see the cultural difference in where they were
from and the kids who must shop here. There was no way they could ever afford any of this
stuff, and they knew they did not belong. Miss. Moore was explaining what things were, how
they worked, and how much they are in comparison to things like allowances. Some of the things
the kids see, they see useless and it has to be explained why anyone would need such a thing,
such as the paperweight. Then the kids saw it, the sail boat that the kids saw in the window that
was way too expensive for any of them to ever own, one kid even recollected getting spanked for
sinking a boat that cost one dollar and this sail boat cost one thousand one hundred ninety five
dollars. The kids were truly amazed by this. Sylvia was so confused that she thought that a real
yacht would cost about one thousand dollars. Miss. Moore decided it was then time for the kids
to go into the store. These strong willed kids who at the beginning of the story thought they were
so sly, suddenly felt awkward and afraid to go into the store. They felt that they did not belong. The
kids walked gently, hardly touching anything. Sylvia was upset that Miss. Moore

Ice Cube ( O Shea Jackson
Gangsta rap originated in the late 1980 s. Ice Cube (O Shea Jackson) of the rap group NWA
(Niggaz with Attitude) wrote the song Gangsta Gangsta, and it shocked America with its violent,
sexist, and obscene lyrics. Gangsta Gangsta ushered in a new genre of hip hop music called
gangsta rap, which became identified with Compton, a predominately black and Latino working
class and working poor neighborhood in Los Angeles . Many people did not agree with the sexist
and indecent lyrics in gangsta rap even though the lyrics were telling the story of many people who
lived in this reality.
Gangsta rap acted as an outlet so such people could express themselves angrily and not in fear
that they were going to be silenced for telling the truth. They often used gangsta rap to tell the
stories of their lives, which sometimes included strong violence, hypersexuality, and drug abuse.
This music style was new and different. Gangsta rap was authentic and helped tell a story with its
deep lyrics. During the 1990s, Republican and Democratic politicians and some black leaders
blamed, not all hip hop music, but gangsta rap for all of the black communities social problems:
drug use, teenage pregnancy, unemployment, gang violence, and high school dropouts. Even
though these problems existed in the black community prior to gangsta rap, this music and culture
has provided a convenient target to avoid addressing the causes of the real problems of black
America: racism, sexism, and poverty .

The Disagreement: Lenora and Joshua
When you are in a relationship, arguments or disagreements can arise. They can often trigger strong
emotions that lead to hurtful words and uneasiness. If these conflicts are not resolved in a healthy
way, resentment and a dissolved relationship could follow. However, when they are resolved in a
proper manner, it could promote growth between the couple and fortify the bonds of their
relationship (Conflict Resolution Skills).

Joshua must understand that Christa s needs are not just Lenora s responsibility. His participation
is detrimental towards the development of their child.
Guideline 4: Avoid Mixed, of Double Messages
Leonora needs to mitigate criticizing Joshua on how his income doesn t cover the monthly
expenses. She should demonstrate that if she returned to work, the financial burden would be
reduced.
Joshua s perspective on day care should be emphasized because it will produce an unnecessary
expense. Furthermore, a large part of their income would result in the consumption of day care.
Guideline 5: When You Can, Choose the Timeand Place Carefully
Lenora and Joshua should set time aside to discuss their conflict instead of randomly arguing over
the same issues. By doing this, it gives each other time to put thoughts together instead of saying
something that they don t mean or is derogatory.
Guideline 6: Address a Specific Issue, Ask for a Specific Change, and Be Open to Compromise
Lenora needs to express her desire to go back to work because it will benefit both Christa and the
family. But at the same time, Lenora should consider the affect it will have on her when she goes
back to work. Maybe the solution could be to compromise with Joshua, to stay at home for one
more year, to nurture Christa.
Joshua should sympathize with her desire to go back to work for the positive effects it will have
on the family s welfare. He should analyze the

The US market is also much more price driven, and lingerie (e.g. bras) cost a lot less.
In Europe there seems to be a difference between northern and southern countries. In southern
Europe they buy more lingerie than in northern Europe. One of the reasons could be that women in
southern Europe place more emphasis on feeling romantic and sexy. Also the more intensive
sweating in these countries may lead to more purchase of lingerie. Another explanation could be,
that the northern countries are colder and women wear thicker clothes, so they are not so worried
about how their underwear looks.
In order to make the right approach to the lingerie market, it is vital to analyze and interpret
attitudes around sex and body image correctly across international markets. In general the US
lingerie market is very conservative compared to Europe, though brands like Victoria s Secret has
moved the needle in United States. While Scndinavia may have liberal attitudes to bodies and
sexuality, other markets, such as India and Japan, are more demure.
As in other apparel designs, the trends in lingerie have been dictated by fabric developments. This
has meant that glamour, the art of seduction, and feminine charm are all ingredients in the current
vogue. In addition, many bras are designed for women who partake in jogging, aerobics, tennis, etc.
to gain maximum benefit from their active lifestyles.

The North Africa Conflict
While analyzing the North Africa conflict, a combination of service capabilities would be
required to achieve the desired end state of deterring and if necessary, the defeat of Algerian
guerilla aggression to prevent regional and global destabilization. Taking into account the
current military landscape that exists today, a joint task force (JTF) would be the ideal military
response of the United States and collation partner s while utilizing the regional military assets.
Intelligence suggests guerilla forces are capable of a full scale offensive into Morocco in less
than 36 hour notice, bringing the factors of time, force and space into consideration. The United
States Air Force controls and operates numerous satellites for global positioning, missile
warning, communication and meteorological purposes along with reconnaissance aircraft.
Through a combination of satellite imagery and reconnaissance aircraft, identifying and
collecting intelligence on guerilla military targets and movements would be the first objective
in the conflict. Once targets are identified, bombing campaigns could commence from regional
Air force bases in the Area of Operations (AO), softening up guerilla forces in advance of the next
stage of the military engagement, the ground campaign. Air force tankers such as the HC 130, KC
135 and KC 10 would need to be deployed to offer in flight air refueling for the F 15, F 16, F 22
and A 10 s departing from regional Air force bases. The Air Force also

Sexual Exploitation of Women in the Developing World Essay
Exploitation of Women in the Developing World
The modern world today is proud to recognize the equality that has been acknowledged between
age, gender, and race. Women are beginning to be treated as equals with men, in new customs,
lifestyle, society, and economy. Today, women are freer and are liberated from their traditional
roles as housewives, and are pursuing their hopes and dreams. However, this is not the case in many
regions of the world. In the developing countries, thousands of females are dehumanized by
prostitution and the trafficking of women and children is dehumanizing which serves only to
benefit men. It exploits and violates the rights of women in the developing world. Sexual

The all encompassing power of the sex industry has devastated the economic and financial status of
women in the developing countries. Governments in the developing world encourage the sex
industry due to the profit they gain to pay their countries debts, and are uninterested in the women s
well being.
Women made vulnerable by poverty are most susceptible to the sex industry because they lack the
resources, the education, and the economic alternatives to pursue other work possibilities. The lack
of education diminishes women s potential to gain paid employment, and desperately consent to
prostitution as their survival strategy.
The governments of the developing world encourage and utilize the sex trade industry as a progress
strategy to repay millions of dollars of debt to international corporations. There are also economic
incentives for the governments of both the exporting and importing countries to ignore the
trafficking in women, and the governments are relatively uninterested in the women s well being.
The sex industry promotes gender inequality and racial discrimination: foreign women maintain the
lowest position in the sex trade hierarchy.
The sex industry focuses on the women and children that are devastated by poverty. One can argue
that prostitution is a survival strategy for women in absolute poverty, but it is the sex industry that
locks them in poverty. Sex traders recruit women by promising them jobs, a

Black Leaders Of 20th Century Essay
BLACK LEADERS OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY
In the time after the fall of radical black reconstruction of the nineteenth century, African Americans
were being oppressed by rural farming, civil rights, economical advancement and sharecropping.
Booker T. Washington charged the fight for economical and political accommodation with his
dream of equal civil rights. Timothy Thomas Fortune was an influential black journalist that fought

At this time Washington felt that his leadership in the black community depended on the help of
white leaders and his wittiness to use them for what he needed. He secretly tried to overturn the
grandfather clause, and (the fact that he could), kept his popularity with the whites. To the end of
his life, many blacks started to question his loyalty to the black communities and whites really did
not remember him, and only thought of him as a black educator.
Thought of as the great successor to Frederick Douglass, Timothy Thomas Fortune was an
influential black journalist. Fortune was born in Marianna, Florida, in 1856 into slavery, the same
year as Booker T. Washington. Timothy was exposed to the harsh realities of white racism and
white supremacy. As the South grew to be more than Fortune could take due to racism, he decided
to leave and move to New York. He was a self taught man and attended school for only three

minority and therefore, so was I.
Sure, I ve been aware that people dislike differences and seek similarities, but being on the

The idea is that self complexity can buffer threats and aid in building resilience and balance, and
this affect can spread across domains when one has better interconnected domains. For example,
someone who sees themselves as a mother, a lawyer, a wife, a martial artist etc. From what I ve
experienced online so far, heterosexuals are condensed into just that one defining domain which
influences the way others treat them and consequently the way they see themselves, and a lack of
self complexity like that can leave you vulnerable to stressors and ultimately lead to anxiety and
depression. The Social Identity Theory (Tajfel, 1974), the idea that we learn about the self through
our memberships in certain groups, is also a huge factor in the formation of an identity. Before,
when heterosexuality was the majority, I never gave much thought to my sexuality, it just was
what it was. The thing is, that s still true, it s what it is. But now there seems to be so many
connotations and attributions linked to heterosexuality that I almost wish it was a choice because
my thoughts are mostly made up of confusion and the feelings of unacceptance, fear of being
ostracized, and being seen as Other . Just reading about the way some people feel about
heterosexuality made me feel anxious about the prospect that every single person in my life has the

Group Of Emotion In Monet
According to Claude Monet, a famous impressionist artist, It s on the strength of observation and
reflection that one finds a way. So we must dig and delve unceasingly. (as cited by Kendall,

objective, or subjective description, Monet believes that a plein air painting style can convey such
profound feelings to audiences based on thorough observation and comprehension (Perry, 1927).
Thus, there are four groups of emotion in Monet s paintings, which are serenity, loneliness,
confusion, and joy. The first group of emotion in Monet s paintings is serenity. Serenity is a state

Joy is an emotion that reflects the fulfilment of human s desires involving the relationship.
Monet, in general, depicts the happiness in his paintings based on a group of people and a
nature as a subject matter (Stuart, 1916). A group of people represents love and caring between
friends with an impressively intimate conversation. They share a moment of laughter while
reminiscing the hilarious action of their friends. Furthermore, the beautiful nature around them,
such as the flower bushes and the small trees, is depicted in a vividly bright tone of color as
responded to the joyful moment of people. While, the their clothes are depicted in a more natural
shade of color, such as blue and green. These colors imply that their feelings toward one another
are perceptibly real and sincere as a natural color (Fitzgerald, 1905). The emotion of his paintings
is mostly described in an amiable atmosphere of a group of people that shares a similar taste in
particular subject (Fitzgerald, 1905). Monet paints them with the reminiscent emotion of his
colleagues helping and supporting him through difficult times (Borgmeyer, 1912). A wonderful
example of joyful moments in Monet s paintings is Le DГ©jeuner sur l herbe or known as The
luncheon on the Grass (Isaacson, 1972). The subject matter is a group of people having lunch
together amid the beautiful nature. The colors in this painting include a natural shade of yellow,
green, and blue. The painting represents the amiably delightful atmosphere of friends sharing food
and beverage (Isaacson, 1972). In summary, joy is the final group of

The Great Cycle Of Reality In William Shakespeare s King...
An ancient Greek aristocrat once said, Things are not always what they seem; the first appearance

seem the first appearance) This statement is an ever present motif in William Shakespeare s 1606
King Lear, a play filled with deceit, characters in disguise, and the modifications of circumstances.
The characters did not understand how the play was going to turn out, and still the original
spectators, the Elizabethans, certainly did. This is due to Shakespeare s implication of the set of
beliefs held by the people of 16th century England, referred to as Elizabethan Cosmology. An
element of this belief system is the Great Chain Of Being, which determines of the importance of

on the wheel, controls the amount fortune one achieves in life. Finally, there is Christianity, which
through its doctrine, dictated who was good or evil. And through these parts of Elizabethan
doctrine, the play reflects that the appearance of a situation is not always its reality, and therefore
one should always be cautious. The main guideline of the Great Chain Of Being is that everything

The Maze Runner Essay
The Maze Runner 534 words
Appetizer
For my independent reading, I chose to read to read The Maze Runner by James Dashner. At first
sight I was attracted to the book simply because of its thrilling cover, which was a picture of the
maze taken from the movie. I chose this book because the blurb was interesting and unique which
automatically gave me the need to keep reading to find out more on what the book was really going
to be about. The title of the story gave away some clues of what the book was initially going to
be about, the name Maze Runner gave me the feeling of an adventure book which would also be
fast paced because the word runner in the title seemed to give away what type of story it would be.
Salad
After reading this novel, the author had left me with a good image of what the whole book was
about and what the setting of the story was. The author described the maze as an enormous set
of moving walls placed in the shape of a maze covered with thick ivy with a glade in the centre
inhabited by people. This gave me the feeling of being trapped inside a room with no escape as
there were monsters which lurked around in the maze at night. Towards the end of the... Show more

The technique the author wrote in was very unique because even though the novel was written in a
third person view, it felt almost as if I was the main character. This caused me to become more
attached to the characters in the book and I think the author did an excellent job expressing
characters and their emotions. Due to the close understanding between the reader and the
characters, since there were many deaths I felt very sympathetic for the deaths of people that I
liked. Another thing that I enjoyed about authors writing style was the way he kept the book fast
paced and interesting throughout the whole novel and made me want to keep reading more of

Summary Of The Art Of War By Sun Tzu
The Causes of Understanding what is Not Said
In, The Art of War by Sun Tzu, several chapters of war strategy are problematized and
conceptualized for producing the best possible outcome for ones relative side. In chapter 9 entitled
Marches, the main message that comes across is interpreting signs from the things that are
happening around you in order to prepare yourself on how to act next. One of these actions includes
interpreting signs from nature so you can access information about your enemy without even seeing
them. Additionally thought over is the ability to read and analyze body language of your opposing
team to understand their current status so you can prepare your own side. Finally, the ability to
understand human mentality of your own side in order to get the best results from your own troop
is discussed. Thus, by understanding these effects to actions, how nature reacts to human contact,
how soldiers react to being weakened, and how your team reacts to upper rule, as a result one is
more equip to fight a successful battle and be prepared for anything, even if they can or cannot see
it, for understanding effects causes on to gain the upper hand in battle.
One of the key factors discussed in chapter 9 is the ability to read the signs of nature in order to
understand where your enemy is and as a result be able to adapt and prepare yourself for where
they are coming from, thus leading to a successful attack. Nature itself is a broad concept but in
essence it is

Virginia Vs Massachusetts Bay Colony Essay
After Spanish colonization of the Americas during the late 15th and 16th centuries, many other
European nations sought to expand their presence to the New World. The British were at the
forefront of this expansion, and soon occupied most of the eastern coast of the United States, which
was split into three regions: New England, the Middle Colonies and the Southern Colonies. These
areas were founded upon different principles and ideologies, evident in the settlements of Virginia
and MassachusettsBay. Although the two were similar in some ways, their economic prospects and
religious perspectives caused them to differ greatly. Jamestown was the first permanent English
settlement founded 1607 in the marshy lands of present day Virginia. This... Show more content on

However, as both colonies continued to flourish, so did the number of their inhabitants. Virginia
was centered around the tobacco industry and because Massachusetts, as well as many other New
England colonies, was on the coast, it was a bustling sea port. There was competition for work,
however, and Boston was the worst because it was such a big port city, where the merchant system
dominated. Virginia, as mentioned before, had a demand for labor, hence a huge boom in the slavery
system. Both colonies also had rocky beginnings with the Natives in the surrounding areas. Initially,
in both settlements, they were met with hostility because of the foreign peoples on their lands. The
Jamestown settlers had virtually no relationship with them, but with the help of John Smith, and the
realization that the English weren t going to leave, they began to help. When the Puritans landed in
Massachusetts, they believed that the English had the right to all lands in the New World, and that
the Natives were going to have to vacate. However, trade helped to soften the edges of impending
conflict between the two groups, and the colonists were able to trade for valuable furs to send back
to England. Despite being on relatively good terms, there were still wars between the settlers and
the Native Americans. This happened throughout all the colonies, not just Virginia and

Biological And Humanistic Approach To Personality
Biological and Humanistic ApproachePersonality is distinctive characteristics inherited and
uniquely possessed by each individual. It makes us very different in our emotions, thought
patterns, as well as our behaviors. The Creator God has given each of us a sense of uniqueness
and there is no one else like us. It means that there is a particular characteristic in our personality
that will describe who we are. As we studied personality, we found out there are eight crucial
aspects in which will help us to grasp the meaning of an individual s complex nature. Maslow
(1982) wrote in his journal about his self actualized friends, all at the top yet all limited; the top

When it came to the nature of human beings, it was best to be optimistic because the focus is
primarily on the ability of human beings having conscious and rational thinking. This way

will to change their behavior and attitude. The biological theory relates the internal organs namely
the brain and genes that human beings have not controlled over. The humanistic approach fails to

Team Dynamics And Decision Making For Project Success Essay
Team Dynamics and Decision Making for Project Success Project success often depends upon team
decision making. In the workplace, the team leader s job is to make decisions that benefit the team
and the whole company. This places them with a lot of responsibility. They must contemplate the
options and consciously select the decision making strategy most appropriate for the circumstances
in which the decision will be made and implemented. Often the decision making style chosen is
among the most significant roles of the project manager. Communication and interpersonal skills of
the group members influence the decision. The incorrect approach can cause problems within the

If the outcome for the decision is not positive, members of the organization begin to feel they
could have done a better job themselves and the leader may lose credibility. When overly used, it
has a number of disadvantages. Team members cannot contribute anything to, or learn anything
from, the process. They are less likely to be committed to implementing the decision. The absence
of any discussion also means that conflicts cannot be worked through, leaving ongoing
resentment unresolved. During decisions by the leader after group discussion, the team proposes
and discusses ideas, but the leader makes the final decision. During this type of decision making,
the leader involves the members of the organization. The leader maintains control of the decision
because, although outside information is considered, the leader alone decides. The leader is also
completely responsible for the good or bad outcome because of the decision. Advantages include
some this is especially valuable when team members could be negatively affected by the decision.
In most cases, members are informed before the decision is implemented so there are no surprises
and usually they feel good about their personal involvement. If the leader is a good communicator,
and listens carefully to the information collected, they will usually have a more accurate
understanding of the problem and make a better decision. Other perspectives

Genetic Cluster Number Of Genetic Clusters
2.5 Number of genetic clusters
To infer genetic cluster number (K) in our sample set, we used two Bayesian approaches based
on the clustering method which differed in that they: a) incorporate or not a null allele model,
and b) use a non spatial or spatial algorithm. We selected this approach because Bayesian models
capture genetic population structure by describing the genetic variation in each population using a
separate joint posterior probability distribution over loci. First, we used STRUCTURE v.2.3.3
(Falush et al., 2003; Pritchard et al., 2000), which does not incorporate a null allele model, but
uses a non spatial model based on a clustering method and it is able to quantify the individual
genome proportion from each inferred population. A previous run had been carried out to define
what ancestry models (i.e. no admixture model and admixture model) and allele frequency models
(i.e. correlated and uncorrelated allele frequency models) fit our dataset. All these previous runs
were conducted with locality information prior to improving the detection of structure when this
could be weak (Hubisz et al., 2009). Run parameters of previous simulations included five runs
with 50,000 iterations following a burn in period of 5,000 iterations for K = 1 10 as number of
tested clusters. Before choosing models to run our dataset we evaluated Evanno s index О”K

Essay On Affluenza
We are Getting Sick With the fast development, affluenza is regarded as an outcome, which is not
good but inevitable. At the beginning, people cooperate and compete with each other to reach the
basic needs. Until now, people start to pursue not only material stuff, but also a better lifestyle with
high quality. Gradually, the market of materialism develops so fast and mature. Meanwhile, people
s expectations are swollen and they become dissatisfied, which causes a new social phenomenon of
affluenza. What is affluenza? John Graaf, David Wann, and Thomas Naylor, in their book
Affluenza: How Overconsumption Is Killing Us and How to Fight Back, defined the term as A
painful, contagious, socially transmitted condition of overload, debt, anxiety, and waste resulting
from the dogged pursuit of more (1).the authors stated that affluenza as a powerful virus and it
leads to a situation of over consumption which infected us a lot. In accordance with this common

the outstanding issues, the brown stain issue was one of the items on the punch list. During the

Mythology In Christian Mythology
Introduction
Christian Mythology, basically means, Myths from the body of Christianity. Some commentators
have categorized many modern fantasy works as the Christian Mythology, during the Modern times.
Mainly focusing on stories and legends, such as the King Arthur and his Knights of the Round
Table and Saint George and the Dragon.
Mythological themes and elements can be found throughout Christian literature, including recurring
myths such as walking up to a mountain, Lucifer s descent into the Underworld, the accounts of a
Deity dying and later being brought back to life, flood stories such as the story of Noah, and
myths about great heroes of past, paradises, and self sacrifice.
Old Testament
Every cites the creation account in Genesis 1 and 2 and the story of Eve s temptation. Many
Christians believe that parts of the Bible were either symbolic and/or metaphorical.
In the Book of Genesis 6:1 4, speaks of an old legend that had borrowed much from ancient
mythology, with the sons of God being considered, the celestial beings of mythology. The
American Bible also tells the story that in Psalm 93 refers to an ancient myth in which God battles
a personified Sea.
According to Howard Schwartz, following the story in Isaiah 14:12, he compares King of
Babylonia with Lucifer, the Devil and the ancient Canaanite myth of Athtar, both of which thought
to be the bright morning star, only to be forced to descend and rule the underworld instead.

because you must know about the vehicle s exact condition, instead of relying on the information

Explain Why The Period Of Home Rule Is Significant In The...
1.Explain why the period of Home Rule is significant in the context of both colonial identity and
self governance:
Home rule is defined as the government of a colony, dependent country, or region by its own
citizens. This definition explains that the colonists felt like they were left to rule their own
government while trying to separate from British ruling. Home Rule was significant in colonial
identity because the colonists were able to develop their own identity away from the British which
made them a stronger force to be reckoned with. The colonists used their newfound identity when
they finally declared independence from the British to establish the basis of the United States of
America.
While the colonists were establishing their own identities, they were also gaining useful experience
in self governance, which proved to be useful with their declaration of independence from the
British. The colonists learned how to handle local issues through self governance and were able to
successfully remove themselves from Parliament and run their own democracy. I believe with their
experience in self governance, the colonists learned what worked best for their needs and what didn

watcher is a plastic candy cane and I used that for this lesson to activate prior knowledge. I held up
the candy cane and asked the students what they see. I had some students comment that there is a
red strip on the candy cane. The students also noticed a white strip, and then they noticed that the
red and white create a pattern. I asked where is the pattern on the candy cane, and they showed that

that I could do the activity with the students so they could clearly see what needed to be done. I

We did not even have to clean off his face to know that the dead man was a stranger. The village
was made up of only twenty odd wooden houses that had stone courtyards with no flowers and
which were spread about on the end of a desert like cape. There was so little land that mothers
always went about with the fear that the wind would carry off their children and the few dead that
the years had caused among them had to be thrown off the cliffs. But the sea was calm and
bountiful and all the men fitted into seven boats. So when we found the drowned man we simply
had to look at one another to see that we were all there.
That night the men did not work at sea. While the men went to find out if anyone was missing in
neighboring villages, the women stayed behind to care for the drowned man. The woman took the
mud off with grass swabs, they removed the underwater stones entangled in his hair, and washed
him with soap and water. As they were doing that we noticed that the vegetation on him came
from faraway oceans and that his clothes were in tatters, as if he had sailed through labyrinths of
coral. But only when they finished cleaning him off did we become aware of the kind of man he
was and it left them breathless. He was the tallest, strongest, most virile, and best built man we had
ever seen.
We could not find a bed in the village large enough to lay him on nor was there a table solid
enough to use for him. The tallest men s

In order for the Bell s to maintain that they have the right to exploit the taken photo by submitting it
into a competition, it must be proven that they hold ownership of the copyright and the work is
protected as such. In order to discuss authorship and ownership, the subject matter of protection
must be established. In the United Kingdom, there is a closed list of 8 copyright protectable forms
of media found in the Copyright, Designs and Patent Act 1988 (CDPA) , of which Section 4 is the
most applicable. Specifically, a photograph is protected under s 4(1)(a), but is dependent on the s
1(1)(a) requirement that the photograph be original.

In the taking of photographs, it was held in Antiquesportfolio v Rodney that the positioning of the
subject, the lighting, the symmetry; were all to be considered as labor skill and judgement in the
same capacity as other protectable artistic work. In this scenario, the process is aided by front
facing cameras, but still requires the same consideration as traditional photography, and cannot be
considered mechanical or automatic, nor trivial. There also lies no evidence within the facts that
the purpose of this photograph was to imitate or create a similarity with a preexisting work, and
therefore the selfie photograph is found to be original within the UK definition.
THE EU DEFINITION
The EU definition is considered by academics and those who practice within the field to hold a
slightly lower threshold than the British. Outside the relatively easily attainable requirement of
intellectual creation and creative freedom, only those creating a quantitative reproduction will fail.
In Painer , a limitation was established concerning photographs of two dimensional subjects, created
with the intention of reproducing the subject as precisely as possible. However, this limit is
inapplicable within the facts, as the photograph taken includes multiple three dimensional objects
and therefore the photograph can be considered original. Judge Birss in Temple Island Collections
Ltd gives very specific reference to requirements of originality in photographs. They include, but are

Rejection of Existentialism Essays
In his defense of existentialism, Sartre first defines the unifying factor of existentialism, (for both
atheist and deist alike), as the belief that existence precedes essence. To help illustrate his point he
presents the example of a paper knife, an object that possess a set of qualities that enable it to carry
out its purpose. He states that it would not have been created without a particular purpose, therefore
its essence precedes its existence. (Sartre) Sartre rejects this idea when it comes to mankind and
declares that humans in themselves have no nature and define themselves after coming into
existence. This stems from his atheistic worldview, in which the rejection of a higher power leads
him to accept the fact that humans are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory opposes Sartre by stating that humans were not the first to exist, nonetheless the first
higher functioning organism. If the human essence follows its existence and then gives meaning to
life, this is to say that every life form that existed before humanity was of no meaning or had no
purpose. If everything in the world is defined by the meaning humanity ascribes to it, then the world
pre humanity, by default would be meaningless or nonexistent.
From a creationist stand point, existentialism is challenged in a similar aspect. It begs us to ask the
question where did humanity come from? . It is foolish to deny the fact that biologically, humans
are incredibly complex and had to have originated from somewhere, whether that be a higher
power or a series of mutations. Sartre s claim that humans were the first to exist leads us to accept
that humans are in a sense god or the first to exist without being bound by limits of time, space or
reason. This in itself is a contradiction seeing as how humans are mortal and definitely held within
certain boundaries.
While existentialism is often closely associated with the idea of free will, I believe that humans
can have free will without believing that existence precedes essence. This brings me back to Sartre
s paper knife argument. While holistically, it is a simple object, it can be divided into thousands of
subcategories, from its physical properties to its molecular

Reasons Why College Athletes Should Be Paid
I believe that college athletes should be paid for many reasons. One reason why they should get
paid is because they put themselves on the line. They also put on an incredible show for the
people so that means more money. The third explanation why these athletes should be paid is
because they would help begin a sense of financial awareness. Another statement of why they
should get paid is because this is the main way that colleges get money. The last and final
explanation on why these athletes should get paid is because they work harder than regular
students. All these reasons are why they should get paid. First of all, many of the athletes put
themselves on the line and they put an incredible show for the people so that means more money. A
collegeathlete may get a scholarship to go to a college to be able to play sports, but what would
happen if they get hurt or cuty from a team. They might lose their dream of becoming something
big in life or they might not accomplish a dream they wanted to be successful in. These athlete s
career can end any second and they do it for the people. According to Marc Edelman he states that
Not only do they miss class, but they are absent for nationally televised games that make a lot of
money and receive millions of viewers . These means that these athletes are missing their school
time to make an entertaining event for millions of viewers. These athletes are the main cause of
why these people want to got to a certain

Themes Of Memento Mori
literature around this time revolve mostly around lyric poems and plays to let people express their
feelings. One of the themes that you often occur in lyrical poems and plays is memento mori.
Memento mori means remember the dead (pg.162). This saying was created because of the
massive amount of death that happens around this time, such as the black death and constant
battles. Not only does the saying apply to death in battle, but it also applies to those who have not
excepted Christ and follow his rules shall receive hell. The
Europeans who live in the medieval era were very religious and believe in Jesus Christ and
Virgin Mary. For examples, stories like the Everyman and Ubi Sunt Qui ante Nos Fuerunt are often
read in musical rhythm and their topics often explore romantic feelings
(vocabulary.com). In the Medieval era, the major theme in stories that are used constantly is
memento mori, to helps teach and express a lesson in plays, lyrical poems, and about the belief of
the Europeans in the 15th century.
In addition, the use of memento mori is mostly used in plays, normally to leave a great impact at
the end to give the audience something to remember and learn some sort of lesson.
For example, a popular play that was performed at the time was Everyman. Everyman s plot was
to let everyone know that time waits for no man and if your heart is not purified and clean enough
for God, then he or she will spend entirety in hell when death reaches them. We see
this when death

People are individuals with their own identities, personalities and sense of self worth pride.
Individuals are subjected to family dynamics, peer pressure dictates of neighborliness civics. They

Random borders drawn arbitrarily for the expediency of powerful nations. Efforts to establsih
uniform international law (treaties) to monitor humane treatment of individuals countries are not
well accepted by powerful countries including the USA. USA refuses to sign the treaty against
genocide, the land mine treaty, the treaty for equal rights for women, and even refused to pay our
United Nations dues. 4 On the local level, a nation is only as effective as its government. When a
government takes the position that government is incompetent, unable to deliver services better
than private industries, the nation has no incentive to demand that government work. They prefer
for government to dismantle operations, forfeiting them to private companies. When a government
believes that they have responsibilities to the American people to run government efficiently, we
can begin the task of nation building, meet the challenges of nationhood. In order words, a nation
run by rogues becomes a nation with no moral compass, and will not advance. A nation run by
nation builders, is a nation which can remain united working towards a common goal of life, liberty

Kennewick Man Essay
Kennewick Man has been an ongoing controversy among the archaeologists and Native American
communities. Scientists believe that the studying of Kennewick Man is crucial to understanding
the earliest of human history on the American continent, as he provides a rare opportunity to look
at well preserved, mostly intact, ancient American remains. They feel that repatriation should not
occur until they are able to study the skeleton enough to identify which cultural group he belongs
to. Native American communities disagree, as they feel that scientists and the public disregard and
disrespect the value of their religious beliefs. However, remains should not be repatriated to a
Native group of it is unclear what group they belong to. Archaeologists... Show more content on

NAGPRA promises Native groups that remains would be returned to them if the remains were
associated with their group, however Kennewick man does not necessarily belong to any specific
group at this point in time. There are two perspectives to this dilemma: the Native perspective
valuing the sacredness of the remains, and the scientific perspective valuing the eagerness to
study the remains (Lee, 2008). Stories written by Donald Sampson and Rechanda Lee give
insight on the Native perspective arguing that science is degrading Native American identity and
disrespecting the culture and religion (Lee, 2008). They do not like that the graves of their
ancestors are disturbed and dissected to be studied (Sampson, 2008). Traditional histories are
important to Native American communities as it provides identity and lineage linked to their
respected communities. Natives feel that a group of scientists should not be telling them what
their history is as they have faith in what is passed down to them orally (Lee, 2008). Many
Natives feel as if scientists need to show respect and let the Native communities be heard. (Lee,
2008). Scientists, however, are addressing Principle No.2 of the Principles of Archaeological Ethics
as identifying the remains and associating them to a certain group determines who the remains
actually belong to. Both Lee and Sampson argue that using the cranial morphology of Kennewick
man to determine his race is the result of irrationality and imagination. Both of the passages that
they wrote claim to be addressing the scientific aspect of Kennewick man, however they seem to be
writing with a strong emotional language rather than scientific. In Sampson s case, for example, he
seems to be personally attacking the scientists involved with Kennewick man rather than the
scientific evidence provided. The only scientific evidence that was addressed in these two

Judas Priest Influence On Society
The heavy metal band Judas Priest was known for being one of the most popular and most
respected heavy metal bands on the planet. Even though they have had many members, they have
made a huge impact in the heavy metal genre. They were hugely influenced by two of the most
popular and well known heavy metal bands of all time.
Judas Priest was influenced by Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Both Black Sabbath and Judas
Priest came from Birmingham, and were heavily influenced by the factories and bleak
surroundings of the area (Bowe 26). Early in their career, Black Sabbath had let Judas Priest
borrow their rehearsal space. One of the first members of Judas Priest had briefly been involved
with Earth, which was the band that became Black Sabbath ... Show more content on

In 1973, Al Atkins and Chris Campbell left the band because they weren t happy with the band s
lack of money. Sue Halford mentioned her brother, Rob Halford, as an exchange for Al,
welcoming him into the band soon after (Bowe 33). This seemed to turn things around for Judas
Priest. In 1978, the band began to change up their look. Instead of satin bloused, bell bottoms,
and wide brimmed hats, they wore black leather and metal studs (Bowe 40). After the release of
Hell Bent for Leather in 1979, they brought in handcuffs and whips, completing their look. After
this, many heavy metal bands had began to take on the look as well (Bowe 42). CREEM
magazine decided to put Judas Priest on the cover in August 1981 (Bowe 47). Judas Priest s only
concert appearance was a huge charity concert in Philadelphia and London in 1985 to help
people in Africa that were starving, and the name of this organization was Live Aid. In that
same year, many heavy metal artists got criticized for their lyrics (Bowe 53). From all the stress
of the Reno trial and constant touring and recording, Rob Halford wanted a break from the
band, officially leaving in 1992. This caused a long, messy fight between him and the other band
members (Bowe 63). Then in 1994, Glenn Tipton started his own career (Bowe 64). In 1997,
Halford was replaced by Tim Ripper Owens, the nickname given to him by the band (Billik). In
1998, Rob Halford was ready to tell people something about

  • 3. The Theology Of The Transcendental Model that is an uncritical process. On the contrary, as this dialogue occurs, there is a critical analysis going on. According to Bevans the importance of this dialogue is that the contextual theology that rises is unique. Unfortunately, the constant threat of this model is that gospel and Tradition can be watered down and lose their prophetic nature. As consequence of being diluted and losing its identity, the gospel may also lose its transforming power. The Transcendental Model This model is the most difficult to understand. Because, though it seems very anthropological, it is contingent to an inner human experience. This model depends on affective and cognitive events. In other words, reality is not something external to be grasped, but it is within ourselves. However, though in the beginning this exercise seems to rely on a personal or individual activity, this model is highly communal. Thus, these transcendental events are generated through the person s interaction with the community. In this model, the closer the person is to his/her local culture the more prepare s/he will be to theologize. This model opens the way for what Schreiter calls the poet or local voices. According to Bevans, this model opens the exercise of theologizing to non professional theologians. Consequently, theology can be found in songs, art and other expressions. A second strength, this model is not focused on finding the correct answer out there , but it is the authentication of the inner ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Minority Report The 2002 film, Minority Report, seems to contain the aspects of a Kantian approach, but when analysing the movie in further detail, does it hold its place? The Pre crime program punishes individuals for having the intent to murder another, even when the action does not take place. Kant elaborates his standards pertaining ethics in Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals, where Pre crime can be further understood. Minority Reporttakes place in the year 2054, crime is virtually eradicated from Washington D.C. due to the Precrime crew. The program uses three gifted humans, known as Pre Cogs, to see in the future and predict crimes beforehand. Kant s first proposition is an action has moral worth only if it is done out of duty, such as when someone who has absolutely no interest in donating to the poor does so out of duty. His second proposition is that action has moral worth not because of its aim, but because of the maxim on which it is based, meaning that it would not matter if the intent failed, as long as the principle was good. His third proposition is that duty is the necessity of an action from respect for the law, such as if an individual is in an embarassing spot, they could will the lie, but not will the maxim to lie. Kant argues that everything is secretly done in self benefit, an example can be an individual helping another merely for the fulfilled feeling. Comparing Kantian aspects to Minority Report can be done with ease. Kant s second proposition, that an action has moral worth because of its maxim, can be further understood in the Pre crime stance. The Pre crime organization is in place in order to stop murders. Individuals, such as Anderton, are sought out to be arrested before they even comprehend the crime. However, Kant would argue that the arrest is valid due to the fact that they are capable of such an intention, even if the act was not committed. There was no way they could ever afford any of this stuff, and they knew they did not belong. Miss. Moore was explaining what things were, how they worked, and how much they are in comparison to things like allowances. Some of the things the kids see, they see useless and it has to be explained why anyone would need such a thing, such as the paperweight. Then the kids saw it, the sail boat that the kids saw in the window that was way too expensive for any of them to ever own, one kid even recollected getting spanked for sinking a boat that cost one dollar and this sail boat cost one thousand one hundred ninety five dollars. The kids were truly amazed by this. Sylvia was so confused that she thought that a real yacht would cost about one thousand dollars. Miss. Moore decided it was then time for the kids to go into the store. These strong willed kids who at the beginning of the story thought they were so sly, suddenly felt awkward and afraid to go into the store. They felt that they did not belong. Ice Cube (O Shea Jackson) of the rap group NWA (Niggaz with Attitude) wrote the song Gangsta Gangsta, and it shocked America with its violent, sexist, and obscene lyrics. Gangsta Gangsta ushered in a new genre of hip hop music called gangsta rap, which became identified with Compton, a predominately black and Latino working class and working poor neighborhood in Los Angeles . Many people did not agree with the sexist and indecent lyrics in gangsta rap even though the lyrics were telling the story of many people who lived in this reality. Gangsta rap acted as an outlet so such people could express themselves angrily and not in fear that they were going to be silenced for telling the truth. They often used gangsta rap to tell the stories of their lives, which sometimes included strong violence, hypersexuality, and drug abuse. This music style was new and different. Gangsta rap was authentic and helped tell a story with its deep lyrics. During the 1990s, Republican and Democratic politicians and some black leaders blamed, not all hip hop music, but gangsta rap for all of the black communities social problems: drug use, teenage pregnancy, unemployment, gang violence, and high school dropouts. Even though these problems existed in the black community prior to gangsta rap, this music and culture has provided a convenient target to avoid addressing the causes of the real problems of black America: racism, sexism, and poverty . ... The US market is also much more price driven, and lingerie (e.g. bras) cost a lot less. In Europe there seems to be a difference between northern and southern countries. In southern Europe they buy more lingerie than in northern Europe. One of the reasons could be that women in southern Europe place more emphasis on feeling romantic and sexy. Also the more intensive sweating in these countries may lead to more purchase of lingerie. Another explanation could be, that the northern countries are colder and women wear thicker clothes, so they are not so worried about how their underwear looks. In order to make the right approach to the lingerie market, it is vital to analyze and interpret attitudes around sex and body image correctly across international markets. Women made vulnerable by poverty are most susceptible to the sex industry because they lack the resources, the education, and the economic alternatives to pursue other work possibilities. The lack of education diminishes women s potential to gain paid employment, and desperately consent to prostitution as their survival strategy. The governments of the developing world encourage and utilize the sex trade industry as a progress strategy to repay millions of dollars of debt to international corporations. There are also economic incentives for the governments of both the exporting and importing countries to ignore the trafficking in women, and the governments are relatively uninterested in the women s well being. The sex industry promotes gender inequality and racial discrimination: foreign women maintain the lowest position in the sex trade hierarchy. The characters did not understand how the play was going to turn out, and still the original spectators, the Elizabethans, certainly did. This is due to Shakespeare s implication of the set of beliefs held by the people of 16th century England, referred to as Elizabethan Cosmology. An element of this belief system is the Great Chain Of Being, which determines of the importance of everything in the universe. Another is the Wheel Of Fortune, which, depending on one s position on the wheel, controls the amount fortune one achieves in life. Finally, there is Christianity, which through its doctrine, dictated who was good or evil. And through these parts of Elizabethan doctrine, the play reflects that the appearance of a situation is not always its reality, and therefore one should always be cautious. The main guideline of the Great Chain Of Being is that everything has its place in the hierarchy of life. God is at the highest link in all things but the king is the highest in terms of humanity, and so he is the closest of humanity to God. Lear, being king, is therefore charged with a significant ... • 23. The Maze Runner Essay The Maze Runner 534 words Appetizer For my independent reading, I chose to read to read The Maze Runner by James Dashner. At first sight I was attracted to the book simply because of its thrilling cover, which was a picture of the maze taken from the movie. I chose this book because the blurb was interesting and unique which automatically gave me the need to keep reading to find out more on what the book was really going to be about. The title of the story gave away some clues of what the book was initially going to be about, the name Maze Runner gave me the feeling of an adventure book which would also be fast paced because the word runner in the title seemed to give away what type of story it would be. Salad After reading this novel, the author had left me with a good image of what the whole book was about and what the setting of the story was. The author described the maze as an enormous set of moving walls placed in the shape of a maze covered with thick ivy with a glade in the centre inhabited by people. This gave me the feeling of being trapped inside a room with no escape as there were monsters which lurked around in the maze at night. Towards the end of the... Due to the close understanding between the reader and the characters, since there were many deaths I felt very sympathetic for the deaths of people that I liked. • 25. Virginia Vs Massachusetts Bay Colony Essay After Spanish colonization of the Americas during the late 15th and 16th centuries, many other European nations sought to expand their presence to the New World. The British were at the forefront of this expansion, and soon occupied most of the eastern coast of the United States, which was split into three regions: New England, the Middle Colonies and the Southern Colonies. These areas were founded upon different principles and ideologies, evident in the settlements of Virginia and MassachusettsBay. However, as both colonies continued to flourish, so did the number of their inhabitants. Virginia was centered around the tobacco industry and because Massachusetts, as well as many other New England colonies, was on the coast, it was a bustling sea port. There was competition for work, however, and Boston was the worst because it was such a big port city, where the merchant system dominated. Virginia, as mentioned before, had a demand for labor, hence a huge boom in the slavery system. Both colonies also had rocky beginnings with the Natives in the surrounding areas. Initially, in both settlements, they were met with hostility because of the foreign peoples on their lands. The Jamestown settlers had virtually no relationship with them, but with the help of John Smith, and the realization that the English weren t going to leave, they began to help. When the Puritans landed in Massachusetts, they believed that the English had the right to all lands in the New World, and that the Natives were going to have to vacate. However, trade helped to soften the edges of impending conflict between the two groups, and the colonists were able to trade for valuable furs to send back to England. Despite being on relatively good terms, there were still wars between the settlers and the Native Americans. This happened throughout all the colonies, not just Virginia and ... It makes us very different in our emotions, thought patterns, as well as our behaviors. The Creator God has given each of us a sense of uniqueness and there is no one else like us. It means that there is a particular characteristic in our personality that will describe who we are. As we studied personality, we found out there are eight crucial aspects in which will help us to grasp the meaning of an individual s complex nature. The absence of any discussion also means that conflicts cannot be worked through, leaving ongoing resentment unresolved. During decisions by the leader after group discussion, the team proposes and discusses ideas, but the leader makes the final decision. Genetic Cluster Number Of Genetic Clusters 2.5 Number of genetic clusters To infer genetic cluster number (K) in our sample set, we used two Bayesian approaches based on the clustering method which differed in that they: a) incorporate or not a null allele model, and b) use a non spatial or spatial algorithm. We selected this approach because Bayesian models capture genetic population structure by describing the genetic variation in each population using a separate joint posterior probability distribution over loci. First, we used STRUCTURE v.2.3.3 (Falush et al., 2003; Pritchard et al., 2000), which does not incorporate a null allele model, but uses a non spatial model based on a clustering method and it is able to quantify the individual genome proportion from each inferred population. A previous run had been carried out to define what ancestry models (i.e. no admixture model and admixture model) and allele frequency models (i.e. correlated and uncorrelated allele frequency models) fit our dataset. All these previous runs were conducted with locality information prior to improving the detection of structure when this could be weak (Hubisz et al., 2009). Run parameters of previous simulations included five runs with 50,000 iterations following a burn in period of 5,000 iterations for K = 1 10 as number of tested clusters. Home Rule was significant in colonial identity because the colonists were able to develop their own identity away from the British which made them a stronger force to be reckoned with. The colonists used their newfound identity when they finally declared independence from the British to establish the basis of the United States of America. There was so little land that mothers always went about with the fear that the wind would carry off their children and the few dead that the years had caused among them had to be thrown off the cliffs. But the sea was calm and bountiful and all the men fitted into seven boats. So when we found the drowned man we simply had to look at one another to see that we were all there. That night the men did not work at sea. While the men went to find out if anyone was missing in neighboring villages, the women stayed behind to care for the drowned man. The woman took the mud off with grass swabs, they removed the underwater stones entangled in his hair, and washed him with soap and water. As they were doing that we noticed that the vegetation on him came from faraway oceans and that his clothes were in tatters, as if he had sailed through labyrinths of coral. But only when they finished cleaning him off did we become aware of the kind of man he was and it left them breathless. He was the tallest, strongest, most virile, and best built man we had ever seen. We could not find a bed in the village large enough to lay him on nor was there a table solid enough to use for him. The tallest men s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the taking of photographs, it was held in Antiquesportfolio v Rodney that the positioning of the subject, the lighting, the symmetry; were all to be considered as labor skill and judgement in the same capacity as other protectable artistic work. In this scenario, the process is aided by front facing cameras, but still requires the same consideration as traditional photography, and cannot be considered mechanical or automatic, nor trivial. There also lies no evidence within the facts that the purpose of this photograph was to imitate or create a similarity with a preexisting work, and therefore the selfie photograph is found to be original within the UK definition. THE EU DEFINITION The EU definition is considered by academics and those who practice within the field to hold a slightly lower threshold than the British. Outside the relatively easily attainable requirement of intellectual creation and creative freedom, only those creating a quantitative reproduction will fail. In Painer , a limitation was established concerning photographs of two dimensional subjects, created with the intention of reproducing the subject as precisely as possible. However, this limit is inapplicable within the facts, as the photograph taken includes multiple three dimensional objects and therefore the photograph can be considered original. • 44. Rejection of Existentialism Essays In his defense of existentialism, Sartre first defines the unifying factor of existentialism, (for both atheist and deist alike), as the belief that existence precedes essence. To help illustrate his point he presents the example of a paper knife, an object that possess a set of qualities that enable it to carry out its purpose. He states that it would not have been created without a particular purpose, therefore its essence precedes its existence. (Sartre) Sartre rejects this idea when it comes to mankind and declares that humans in themselves have no nature and define themselves after coming into existence. This stems from his atheistic worldview, in which the rejection of a higher power leads him to accept the fact that humans are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theory opposes Sartre by stating that humans were not the first to exist, nonetheless the first higher functioning organism. If the human essence follows its existence and then gives meaning to life, this is to say that every life form that existed before humanity was of no meaning or had no purpose. If everything in the world is defined by the meaning humanity ascribes to it, then the world pre humanity, by default would be meaningless or nonexistent. From a creationist stand point, existentialism is challenged in a similar aspect. It begs us to ask the question where did humanity come from? . It is foolish to deny the fact that biologically, humans are incredibly complex and had to have originated from somewhere, whether that be a higher power or a series of mutations. Sartre s claim that humans were the first to exist leads us to accept that humans are in a sense god or the first to exist without being bound by limits of time, space or reason. This in itself is a contradiction seeing as how humans are mortal and definitely held within certain boundaries. While existentialism is often closely associated with the idea of free will, I believe that humans can have free will without believing that existence precedes essence. This brings me back to Sartre s paper knife argument. While holistically, it is a simple object, it can be divided into thousands of subcategories, from its physical properties to its molecular ... • 45. Reasons Why College Athletes Should Be Paid I believe that college athletes should be paid for many reasons. One reason why they should get paid is because they put themselves on the line. They also put on an incredible show for the people so that means more money. The third explanation why these athletes should be paid is because they would help begin a sense of financial awareness. Another statement of why they should get paid is because this is the main way that colleges get money. The last and final explanation on why these athletes should get paid is because they work harder than regular students. All these reasons are why they should get paid. First of all, many of the athletes put themselves on the line and they put an incredible show for the people so that means more money. A collegeathlete may get a scholarship to go to a college to be able to play sports, but what would happen if they get hurt or cuty from a team. They might lose their dream of becoming something big in life or they might not accomplish a dream they wanted to be successful in. These athlete s career can end any second and they do it for the people. According to Marc Edelman he states that Not only do they miss class, but they are absent for nationally televised games that make a lot of money and receive millions of viewers . These means that these athletes are missing their school time to make an entertaining event for millions of viewers. These athletes are the main cause of why these people want to got to a certain ... One of the themes that you often occur in lyrical poems and plays is memento mori. Memento mori means remember the dead (pg.162). This saying was created because of the massive amount of death that happens around this time, such as the black death and constant battles. Not only does the saying apply to death in battle, but it also applies to those who have not excepted Christ and follow his rules shall receive hell. The Europeans who live in the medieval era were very religious and believe in Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary. • 48. Kennewick Man Essay Kennewick Man has been an ongoing controversy among the archaeologists and Native American communities. Scientists believe that the studying of Kennewick Man is crucial to understanding the earliest of human history on the American continent, as he provides a rare opportunity to look at well preserved, mostly intact, ancient American remains. They feel that repatriation should not occur until they are able to study the skeleton enough to identify which cultural group he belongs to. Native American communities disagree, as they feel that scientists and the public disregard and disrespect the value of their religious beliefs. However, remains should not be repatriated to a Native group of it is unclear what group they belong to. Archaeologists... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... NAGPRA promises Native groups that remains would be returned to them if the remains were associated with their group, however Kennewick man does not necessarily belong to any specific group at this point in time. There are two perspectives to this dilemma: the Native perspective valuing the sacredness of the remains, and the scientific perspective valuing the eagerness to study the remains (Lee, 2008). Stories written by Donald Sampson and Rechanda Lee give insight on the Native perspective arguing that science is degrading Native American identity and disrespecting the culture and religion (Lee, 2008). They do not like that the graves of their ancestors are disturbed and dissected to be studied (Sampson, 2008). Traditional histories are important to Native American communities as it provides identity and lineage linked to their respected communities. Natives feel that a group of scientists should not be telling them what their history is as they have faith in what is passed down to them orally (Lee, 2008). Many Natives feel as if scientists need to show respect and let the Native communities be heard. (Lee, 2008). Scientists, however, are addressing Principle No.2 of the Principles of Archaeological Ethics as identifying the remains and associating them to a certain group determines who the remains actually belong to. Both Lee and Sampson argue that using the cranial morphology of Kennewick man to determine his race is the result of irrationality and imagination. Both of the passages that they wrote claim to be addressing the scientific aspect of Kennewick man, however they seem to be writing with a strong emotional language rather than scientific. In Sampson s case, for example, he seems to be personally attacking the scientists involved with Kennewick man rather than the scientific evidence provided. The only scientific evidence that was addressed in these two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though they have had many members, they have made a huge impact in the heavy metal genre. They were hugely influenced by two of the most popular and well known heavy metal bands of all time. Judas Priest was influenced by Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Both Black Sabbath and Judas Priest came from Birmingham, and were heavily influenced by the factories and bleak surroundings of the area (Bowe 26). In 1973, Al Atkins and Chris Campbell left the band because they weren t happy with the band s lack of money. Sue Halford mentioned her brother, Rob Halford, as an exchange for Al, welcoming him into the band soon after (Bowe 33). This seemed to turn things around for Judas Priest. In 1978, the band began to change up their look. Instead of satin bloused, bell bottoms, and wide brimmed hats, they wore black leather and metal studs (Bowe 40). After the release of Hell Bent for Leather in 1979, they brought in handcuffs and whips, completing their look. After this, many heavy metal bands had began to take on the look as well (Bowe 42). CREEM magazine decided to put Judas Priest on the cover in August 1981 (Bowe 47). Judas Priest s only concert appearance was a huge charity concert in Philadelphia and London in 1985 to help people in Africa that were starving, and the name of this organization was Live Aid. In that same year, many heavy metal artists got criticized for their lyrics (Bowe 53). From all the stress of the Reno trial and constant touring and recording, Rob Halford wanted a break from the band, officially leaving in 1992. This caused a long, messy fight between him and the other band members (Bowe 63). Then in 1994, Glenn Tipton started his own career (Bowe 64).
