Religious Conflict Of Dante s Inferno
Jessica Gay World Literature Dr. Schott 9 November 2014 Religious Conflict in Dante s Inferno
Critics Daniel Tompsett and Donald Winchester and literary scholar Nicole Rudick have argued that
Dante s Inferno is a dark and hopeless telling of how we are all relegated to sin and lack the will or
righteousness to turn from sin and temptation. Tompsett and Winchester state that, The placement of
living figures in each section was a judgment and a condemnation, albeit subjective, on both history
and the people he knew (Tompsett). They both agree that Dante is painting a picture of the dredges of
society and the torture that they must endure as a result of their inability to turn from sin. They also
quote scholar David H. Higgins to say that Dante arguably believed he was writing a gospel to convert
his recalcitrant age (Tompsett). Scholar and critic Nicole Rudick confirms this portrayal of dismal
hopelessness with her comment, Dante created a rigid view of good and evil, showing no mercy for
those who did not repent during their lifetimes and sparing no one in his accounting of misdeeds, vice,
immorality, and generally inappropriate comportment (Rudick 29). It is my opinion that the
aforementioned scholars and critics are missing Dante s point. When I read the poem I am overcome
with quite the opposite view. I believe that a better way to interpret Dante s poem is to consider that he
was asking each of us to reflect on our waywardness and sin and to come to the

Sexual Harassment And Social Media
Sexual harassment have become a major concern in places of work, and academic institutions.
Throughout the years the rise of social media virtual spaces have become a place where men and
women can become victimized. With the intersection of sexual harassment and social media people
have experience sexual harassment online on many social media s.
The subject of sexual harassment has not been one that haven t been noticed by people, though the
thought of someone causing trouble online seems something of the norm among us. That does not
mean we are concerned of the trouble in media, especially when anything can happen on one or
various of sites. Sexual harassment in person is horrifying enough in person, but now they have the
problem of it following them on places where they regular visit online in order to do work or just to
take a break and relax from stress.
Sexual harassment online is when a person sends unwanted inappropriate image, message or email. It
is when a person feels uncomfortable or feel like that they may be in danger because of what is sent to
them. A common form of sexual harassment on the internet occurs when a harasser sends unwanted
abusive, threatening or obscene messages to a victim via email or instant message. ( Sexual
Harassment n.d 2017 ). People are constantly receiving emails and or messages that follow them
wherever they go because in today s society most people are using phones and or sites for everything.

The Island Of Dr. Moreau Religion
Science and Religion in The Island of Dr. Moreau
The Island of Dr. Moreau depicts the dueling concepts between science and religion. Throughout the
Victorian Era within which H.G. Wells novel was written, turmoil between science and religion was at
its peak. New scientific theories were proposed including Darwinism, which H.G. Wells strongly
advocated as witnessed in his book. Many Christians opposed these findings as these new ideas often
disproved what was written in the Bible. Therefore, a divide was created amongst Christians and
scientists, the basis of the material introduced in The Island of Dr. Moreau. Due to opposing conflict
between science and religion, Wells proposes the solution that rules separate humanity from animals.

Wells articles... is whether ordinary people should be allowed to know the facts and should discuss
their implications (Woolf 498). This excerpt is a prime example of the division between science and
religion that was occurring throughout the time period within this book was written. Many people
began to support Wells in his beliefs of scientific principles such as Darwinism. However, there were
those who strongly dejected it and even became hostile that those scientific ideas were available to the
public. The reason the ideas were so easily accessible were because of literary interpretation in
controversial books such as The Island of Dr. Moreau.
One interpretation in The Island of Dr. Moreau was that Moreau is a scientific God. Dr. Moreau and
God display many of the same characteristics when comparing the Bible to H.G. Wells novel. They
are both depicted as invisible, but still there watching. This is shown in The Island of Dr. Moreau as
Wells has written, You cannot see him. But he can see you. Fear the law, (Wells 163). In the Bible a
similar dialog is written, The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good,
(The Holy Bible 378). Both texts also describe the two characters as healing and wounding. In Wells
novel it is written, His is the Hand that

DISCUSSION
The data presented in the study showed trends in antibiotic resistance patterns of methicillin resistant
and methicillin sensitive Staphylococcus aureus in KYAMCH at Enayetpur, Sirajgonj, teaching and
referral hospital of Bangladesh.
Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of the major pathogens associated with
community acquired serious nosocomial infection because these strains generally show multiple drug
resistance which limits treatment possibilities (7).
In this study, the isolation rate of MRSA on gender basis revealed more from male (54.5%) than
female (45.5%). Persons younger than 30 years of age were found to be more MRSA carrier 112
(23%) and less found among below 10 years of age 50 (10%) (Figure 2). Our age and gender based
findings did not agree with those findings obtained by other studies where no significant variations
were noticed. (8). Population of this study is villagers of working group (30 years) who are financially
important. Through medical care they became subject of this study. On the contrary, other studies are
carried out in the city where all residents irrespective of gender and age are equally receiving medical
care.
In our study, the highest number of Staphylococcus aureus isolates were from throat swab samples
104 (49.5%) followed by pus 44 (20.9%) (Figure 5 a). Similar study of Tamilnadu in India as high as
35.7% of MRSA strains were obtained from throat swabs and 33.6% of strains were

Conformity In The Great Gatsby
Drugs, alcohol, parties, popularity are the key known factors of peer pressure. In fact, most teenagers
today are exceptionally vulnerable to social conformity issues simply because social acceptance at
their age is important. However, they are not the only victims struggling in this stage; there are also
adults who are still swayed by the public opinions. This stage of social conformity, according to the
Kohlberg s stages of moral development, is often referred to as the Interpersonal (tribal) conformity.
This is applied to the large population of teenagers rather than the adults. In the book The Great
Gatsby, the peers around Daisy had a tremendous influence upon her decisions. Even as an adult,
Daisy consistently made an effort to satisfy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, this also applies to the situation of understanding what social conformity is. This subject has
been around for centuries, forcing many to behave in a certain way that the society expects. The
influence of peer pressure is still a topic has an impact to the world, especially the adolescents. The
[s]ocial psychologists have suggested that one core function of compliance and conformity is to
maintain group harmony ( Social Influence and the Brain:Persuasion, Susceptibility to Influence and
Retransmission Cascio,Scholz,Falk) and this applies to many individuals who value public opinions
more than their own. They seek to be good people and make an effort to follow the trend of the crowd.
More often than not, this also relates to the confidence level of an individual, If those others agree
with one s beliefs, one gains confidence in them; if they disagree, one loses confidence ( Conformity,
Levine). This is indeed what many people face today from all different phases of life. Daisy, one of the
characters in the book The Great Gatsby, is a perfect example of a person soaked into social
conformity. From the beginning of her marriage life with Tom to the end of the book, she progresses
into immoral stages of life. Day after day she conforms herself into a world filled with corruptions,
such as adultery and murder. Although, she is an adult, she is a character that is stuck in a stage that
her age group have already

The Construction Industry Affecting Australia s Economy
The construction sector drives a country s economy. In Australia, the construction industry is a major
role of economic growth and is the fourth largest contributor to Australia s gross domestic product
(GDP) (ABS 2010). By 2056, economy activity is estimated to increase five times, energy
consumption and manufacturing activity to triple with the population growth increase by over 50%
(Akadiri, Chinyio and Olomolaiye 2012). With construction industry affecting the economy,
ultimately, it also affects the social, cultural and environmental aspects of the country.

construction however should be seen although complex, incorporates aspects of economic efficiency,

Pi And The Real World
Abstract Pi has a rich history and numerous applications to go along with it. Pi is used in mathematics,
science and engineering. Pi has been traced back to over 1600 BC in Egypt, and today it is celebrated
world wide. Students from elementary school through college know of pi and its multiple applications.
It has been used in physics, as well as in geometry. Students will even use it in trigonometry when
they are doing sine waves. Students need to see how necessary pi is in mathematics and in the real
world. Although it may seem pointless to some students now pi will help in numerous career fields as
well as in more accelerated classes like calculus A B or AP physics. But knowing the application of pi
is not just for students, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pi and algebra both are necessary. Pi does have applications in the real world that some mathematical
topics just don t have. A famous Egyptian piece of papyrus gives us another ancient estimation for pi.
Dated around 1650 BC, the Rhind Papyrus was written by a scribe named Ahmes. Ahmes wrote, Cut
off 1/9 of a diameter and construct a square upon the remainder; this has the same area as the circle
(Blatner, 8). Pi has been found in early world history. There is reference to it in the Old Testament of
the Bible in 1 King 7:23, Also he made a molten sea of ten cubits from brim to brim, round in
compass, and five cubits the height thereof; and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.
(Allen, 2). In Babylon, they seemed to be well aware of the Pythagorean Theorem years before
Pythagoras. They had even developed a method of square root extraction equivalent to Newton s
method. They had generally used the approximation π=3 (Allen, 2). In Rome, the Romans were not
mathematicians they were warriors. Even with all of the mathematics that the Greeks had done at their
fingertips computed the areas of circular objects using the proposition and statement, A wheel of
diameter 4 feet has a perimeter of 12.5 feet . With that statement, the Romans got π≈3 1/8 (Allen, 5).
Pi is an irrational number because there is no derivation of it that does not involve irrational numbers,
basically it the ability tonot be simplified into rational terms; it does

Nietzsche Pain And Good Will Analysis
There is a belief that pain and good will are closely related to achieving some type of happiness or
fulfillment in one s life. There are many who believe that there must have been some type of great
effort yielding positive outcomes or results after passing through suffering, failure, bad luck, or any
element of pain. Having a good life as characterized by Nietzsche, it fosters a level of discomfort or
reversal between success and achievement because he believed happiness or fulfillment was capable
after failing or experiencing some type of destitution. In other words, a baseball bat was swung to a
person s head by the accomplice, causing severe pain because that person failed to steal the bubble
gum from the grocery store since they had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, Nietzsche s claim to have a good life does not render absolute fulfillment or happiness
because experiencing hardships or physical or mental pain previous cannot guarantee a person s
fulfillment or happiness. In fact, there are other ways which establish a person s willingness to be
fulfilled that is more reasonable than pain before pleasure. I must disagree with Nietzsche s
philosophical thought that hardship produces or reinforces a better outcome or transition which
manifests a person becoming happier or fulfilled with self. In the YouTube clip, the narrator, Alain de
Botton, described Nietzsche s good life is the result of hardship and pain is where the sense of
fulfillment is originated. De Botton restated that Nietzsche said: any worthwhile achievement was
born out of constant struggle and hard work [and] there was no such straight path to the top. It can
only be exposed through the direct result of unvarying trial and error which certainly is developed as
physical or mental pain. There is no glory unless distress or anguish is confronted from the

As a novice interviewer, one of my most favorite experiences was interviewing the amazing Andrew
Walker. I know that much of the affinity I feel towards him and this chat was his kind and supportive
response to my post, but he has been a favorite Hallmark actor in this household for as long as we
have been Hallmark fans. In spite of Andrew s incredibly busy schedule, recently he set aside a
considerable amount of time to update me on his career, including his work with Hallmark, his
upcoming projects outside of this network, and even a bit about his current and future aspirations.

President Obama s Child Farm Labor Bill
President Obama wanted to pass a bill that would prevent young farm workers from participating in
farm related activities and chores. Billed as an anti child labor act, the bill was quickly censured. As
Leven puts it, the proposal drew heavy criticism from rural state lawmakers and agricultural leaders,
who cast the rule as government overreach that would erode the traditional American family. The
traditional American family in this case is a rural one, which is an under represented segment of the
population in federal politics. In addition to the way the bill harms traditional rural life, it would also
have significantly harmed the American economy at a time when the economy needs a boost. Farm
families rely on a continuity of labor, so that the young people on the family can learn the trade as
early as possible to support their future careers. Moreover, the bill represents an unnecessary
encroachment of both the government and big labor on farming practices. Part of the bill s provision
was to create a government intervention to oversee occupational safety, when there are already
independent organizations committed to meeting the same objectives. President Obama s proposed
child farm labor bill was untenable because it would damage traditional rural family life; harm a
significant part of the American economy; and enable government and big labor to intrude upon the
lives of Americans. President Obama s child farm labor bill would apply child labor laws to children

White People In Montgomery
After learning about the boycott and searching on various websites about Rosa Parks and the
Montgomery boycott. I found that white people served an important role in this resistance movement.
After a period of time the boycott started, white people in Montgomery split into three major groups.
While most of the white people opposed the boycott with violent actions, some whites still helped
their African American employees by providing transportation support. Another business group who
wanted to make profits from black, remained peaceful and negotiated with boycott leaders.
Large amounts of white population in Montgomery went against the bus boycott and some even used
violent actions. The White Citizen s Council listed some of the telephone numbers of white people
who support the boycott, and numerous people made phone calls to complain about the behavior of
hauling African American. (S. Gratze) According to their behavior, we can concluded that huge
amounts of people dislike the boycott and took some actions. Ku Klux Klan, a white supremacist

Wiesel Vs Vilkas
War loves to seek its victims in the young, Sophocles. When you read the novels Night, by Elie
Wiesel, and Between Shades of Gray, by Ruta Sepetys, you may ponder and realize the true meaning
of that quote. Eluding the fact that the children weren t targeted directly, wars and disputes between
countries, or in a country itself, can tear up every citizen in said location. Although the stories of Elie
Wiesel and Lina Vilkas are similar in the pain they endured, there were some differences such as: the
camps in which they were relocated, the reason they were both sent away, and the people they were
left to be with in the camps, as well as their purpose there.
As stated earlier, Wiesel and Vilkas have gone through some of the same pains.

Analysis Of The Film Gravity
I want to start by recognizing that in my earlier film papers I have made the mistake of summarizing
all of the science in each of the films from start to finish. By doing so my paper essentially became a
summary of the film rather than an explanation of the science found within it. To avoid repeating these
mistakes I would like to focus on a few scientific concepts that I found interesting in this film,
Gravity. The first, and likely most obvious is the concept of surviving in space. Second, the concept of
floating freely in space. Third, the concept of decomposition in the zero gravity atmosphere of space.
And fourth, the part of the movie where lieutenant Kowalski propels himself with a fire extinguisher. I
believe that Isaac Newton s three laws can help me to explain these concepts. Gravity was a thrilling
film that showed a situation in which astronauts were stranded in space without a spacecraft or any
means of communication. The surviving astronauts had to fight for their lives in theoretically hardly
survivable and unlivable conditions. The main dilemma, and theme of the entire film, was the
destruction of the International Space Station (ISS) and most of the astronauts on board. Russia
launched a missile into space to destroy one of their satellites. This turned into a problem when the
launch was successful, but the target was missed and the mission failed. Debris was left spiraling
through space at a rapid pace. Dr. Ryan Stone survived the destruction along with

John Searle s Chinese Room Argument
John Searle s Chinese Room Argument John Searle is an American Philosopher, born July 31, 1932.
He is known for a widely spread argument in Philosophy called the Chinese Room Argument . He
published his work onto paper in 1980. The argument follows that: Searle imagines himself alone in a
room following a computer program for responding to Chinese characters slipped under the door.
Searle understands nothing of Chinese, and yet, by following the program for manipulating symbols
and numerals just as a computer does, he produces appropriate strings of Chinese characters that fool
those outside into thinking there is a Chinese speaker in the room. (Cole, David) Searle (1984)
organizes a three premise argument: Programs are purely formal (syntactic). Human minds have
mental contents (semantics). Syntax by itself is neither constitutive of, nor sufficient for, semantic
content. (Cole, David) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main conclusion is that a computer may be able to produce a language but is not able to
comprehend the real understanding of that language. There have been many skeptics with different
points of view about this theory, as well as supporting the argument. Searle states, The point of the
argument is this: if the man in the room does not understand Chinese on the basis of implementing the
appropriate program for understanding Chinese then neither does any other digital computer solely on
that basis because no computer, qua computer, has anything the man does not have. (Cole,

Doubt is often better than overconfidence, for it leads to inquiry and inquiry leads to investigation
Research inculcates scientific and inductive thinking and it promotes the development of logical habits
of thinking and organization. Research is a common parlance refers to a search of knowledge. The

Oil Is A Critical Piece Of Our Energy Infrastructure
Crude oil is a critical piece of our energy infrastructure. In recent years, there has been increasing
demand on crude oil and a large growth in unconventional oil sources to serve our energy
requirements such as the bitumen oil sands deposits in Northern Alberta, Canada. Unlike traditional
oil extraction, in the oil sands hot water or steam [1] is required to remove oil from the high viscous
bitumen deposits. This extraction process consumes a large volume of water with major oil producers
consuming on an average 3.1 barrels of water for the production of 1 barrel of oil with 15 20% coming
from fresh water bodies [2 4]. The current and future environmental impact of the oil sands extraction
process is potentially huge in Canada since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Treating this water is challenging as hydrocarbon particles are stably dissolved in the water. Currently,
the OSPW is stored in the tailing ponds to allow toxins to degrade which has a large impact on local
wildlife. For example, it is estimated that in situ mining operations such as oil sands production have
caused 71% decline in caribou herd from 1996 to 2008 [9,10]. The current cleaning methods are too
slow for the demand, expensive, and have challenges removing oils from stable emulsion conditions
seen in OSPW [9,12]. Oil spills also contain dispersed and emulsified hydrocarbon toxins. Oil spills
can during any stage from extraction to usage and can have a large impact. For example, the 2010 BP
deep water mining accident released 4.9 billion barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico in 87 days [16
18]. When oil spills in a water body, a physicochemical changes occur which are referred to as
weathering [19 23]. Weathering includes evaporation of volatiles components, dispersion of oil
particles, dissolution, microbial degradation, emulsification, spreading, and photo oxidation [24 26].
Weathering intensifies oil dissolution in seawater, causing severe damage to marine life from toxic
components [27 30]. Effective in situ methods are needed to remove dissolved, dispersed and
emulsified oil as a result of oil spills. The established processes for removal of dissolved and dispersed
hydrocarbons from water are bioremediation, membrane

Fictional Character Analysis
Hannibal Lecter from Hannibal series
Character Description:
Hannibal Lecter is the primary character in the Hannibal movie series and will be the subject of
psychiatric evaluation for this paper. The series is comprised of 4 films ( Hannibal Rising , Silence of
the Lambs , Red Dragon , and Hannibal ) which follow Lecter s life from youth to adulthood. Lecter is
a white male of average height and weight; he is a brilliant doctor and exceptionally well mannered
and educated individual. Hannibal Lecter was born in Lithuania in the year of 1933 to a wealthy,

In fact, those with psychiatric personality disorders such as ADP are accountable for over 49% of all
crimes; of those with more than 5 crimes, 59% had a severe psychiatric diagnosis. This study found
higher levels of crime within groups of people with ADP or other personality disorders. The likelihood
of an offender having a personality disorder increases as the number of offenses committed increases.
(Andre Sourander) Hannibal is a dangerous serial killer and cannibal, responsible for over 20 deaths
and also has a severe case of ADP.
Childhood trauma is directly associated with patients with Psychopathy/Antisocial Personality
Disorder. According to this study by Mesut Cetin which tested a number of Turkish men, patients with
ADP reported significantly higher rates of childhood trauma related events. 60.8% of the ADP
subjects had at least 1 type of childhood traumatization. Childhood experiences are essential factors of
development and directly correlated with the aquiration of ADP and other severe personality disorders.
Children with a negative upbringing that experience things such as neglect and abuse are at a much
greater risk to develop disorders such as ADP. (Mesut Cetin) This study supports the link between
childhood traumas and ADP. Hannibal Lecter undergoes extreme trauma when his family is, murdered
and his sister is cannibalized.

The Wife of His Youth
Question: Discuss the theme of race in Chesnutt The Wife of His Youth ?
After the civil war, racial issues affect society and Charles Chesnutt a regional realist writer tackles the
subject. The difference between black and white, which should logically disappear, increases, and the
African American community is experiencing exclusion in some societies. Chesnutt through his text
The Wife of his youth refers to the problem by showing the contrast between black and white. He does
not hesitate to create a character belonging to the two worlds so that embodies the image of a possible
unification.
The essay begins by the exclusion accentuated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the guests become witnesses and take part in the story. Mr Ryder tells the story as an exterior
character, we can note the use of the pronoun he throughout its history.
He raises many questions to guests to make sure they understand the situation and that they approve of
his decision; Suppose That he was young, and she much older than he, that she was light, and she was
black (Chesnutt 35), Suppose, too, that he made his way to the North ... (Chesnutt 35). He does not
seek to prolong the suspense, but to test and measure the reaction of the members. This attitude shows
that despite his loyalty to his wife, he is none the less attached to his current status. He unveils the
truth when he feels that the members approve the eventual choice; And now, ladies and gentlemen,
friends and companions, I ask you, what he should have done? (Chesnutt 36).
Presumably Chesnutt put his character in a dilemma in order to show that unification is possible
because at the end members share the opinion of Ryder knowing that Liza is black. This is more than
an approval; it is a step forward.
Charles Chesnutt uses some specific techniques of regional realist. First, he plays with the tone of his
characters by using the regional dialect, but he describes some real facts, as in many others of his
writings. For example in The Goophered Grape Vine (26), the narrator is an old black and the

Comparing Ecotopia And Thomas More s Utopian Genre
The Utopian genre has evolved over a number of decades in order to experiment with changing values
and ideals of the ever evolving societies of the times. Thomas More s Utopia defined a new literary
genre within the 16th century and onwards, allowing for an array of texts to explore the particular
ideals and values that were often preached during the respective time period but never formally
recognized. This is also the case for Ernest Callenbach s Ecotopia, a utopian text written in the 1970s,
attaching fundamental importance to the restoration of the natural world and the feminist values of
Ecotopian society. The development of the genre from the 16th to 20th centuries is evident through the
differences in principles that are addressed in each text, all of which are a reflection of the values of
their respective time periods.
More s Utopia established the existence of the utopian genre, exhibiting a political vision of 16th
century Britain. The composer presents a model of an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Voltaire s Candide and Moliere s Tartuffe
Introduction
The Enlightenment brought about a brand new way of thinking. The traditional, conservative
mannerisms displayed by the church were slowly losing popularity amongst its citizens. The
introduction of reason, knowledge, and rationality were beginning to take center stage of the time.
However, the power of the church was intact. Quite knowingly, much power presents the threat of
corruption and desolation in any situation. Both Moliere and Voltaire utilize strikingly similar
characters throughout their adventures in the form of Candide and Orgon. Both characters have
exhibited similar levels of gullibility, wealth, and overall good outcomes despite hardships that they
face.
Naivety
Tartuffe s Orgon is probably one of the most naïve characters to have graced a play. His never ending
belief that Tartuffe is some God among men is ridiculous. Orgon believes that Tartuffe is actually, no
loftier soul since time began (Moliere 114). His son did not even have a chance to reverse the way he
felt about Tartuffe. After pleading Orgon to come to his senses, Orgon immediately shuns and scours
Damis for trying to falsify Tartuffe s divine nature. He responds to his son with Ah, you deceitful boy,
how dare you try to stain his purity with so foul a lie? (Moliere 134). Candide is just as, if not more
stubborn in the way that he is not willing or capable to think for himself, but rather rely on the
philosophical expertise of Pangloss in order to make decisions or

Technology Is Not A Distraction
Technology is not a distraction, it is a benefit. Technology is one of the most controversial and
innovative subjects in recent history. It has been said that technology will preserve the human race,
and we will survive longer in the future due to technology breakthroughs. However, many claim that
technology is destroying our minds and causing us to remain distracted throughout daily life activities.
Recently, teachers and professors have struggled with their students with being distracted by current
technological devices during lectures. Teachers should use technology in the classroom because it
improves student s achievements, keeps student s involved, and promotes higher thinking. For
example, US News journalist Ryan Lytle wrote an article stating an Advanced Placement Calculus
teacher named Stacey Roshan, an instructor at Bullis; a private school for students in grades three
through twelve in Potomac, Maryland. According to Lytle, the students in her class faced the problem
of trying to keep her engaged as she walked them through the difficult mathematics curriculum.
During her previous three years at the school, Roshan notes, students were routinely stupefied by the
traditional classroom lecture and often left class with more questions than answers (Lytle). They
wanted so much more time in the classroom to work on problems, Roshan Says. Ms. Roshan decided
to act on her own initiative and take her students lack of answers from her lectures into her own hands.

Conflict Between Conflict Management And Resolution
Learned there is still a negative association with conflict. Reflects poorly on the supervisor when there
is conflict but in reality it s only negative when the supervisor or employee, depending on the situation
does not address the conflict. Unresolved conflicts can negatively impact not only the employees
involved but also the company. Unresolved conflicts result in negative impacts not only to the
individual but also the company. Focus on the problem, not the person. Sometimes the conflict will be
reoccurring or unresolvable to the satisfaction of both parties.
The key concept that I learned or were reinforced through the readings are removing emotions, setting
a goal for the resolution and conflicts are inevitable. My position often requires me to be involved
with numerous conflicts both directly and indirectly. There are times that I encounter angry and
frustrated employees due to conflicts with both co workers and supervisors. Often I get involved and
help identify and walk both through the conflict.
One of the most critical concepts of conflict management and resolution is to remove emotions from
the issue. This is often easier said than done. It is important to remember that there are multiple
emotions from multiple people that can cloud judgement and influence our listening abilities.
Refraining from making assumptions based on emotional connection is also important. An example of
emotions and assumptions is one that occurred recently. One of my staff

Ben uses the words reality and appearance twice in the autobiography. The first time it is in regards to

he really wanted to do in regards to fishing and shooting etc. On page 384 we see the second mention

The Hidden Driver Of Excellence
A Summary of Chapters Three and Four in Focus: The Hidden Driver of Excellence by Daniel
Goleman
(450) Chapter Three: Attention Top and Bottom
In this chapter, Goleman (2015) defines the important differences in the way the brain functions in
order to focus on a particular object or event. The neurological function of the brain defines why there
is a bottom up mind and top down mind that operates when discerning between differing focus
orientation. In this way, Goleman (2015) identifies the bottom up mind as being much faster in
deciphering perceived threats or challenges as an involuntary focus: Faster in brain time...involuntary
and automatic (Goleman 25). In contrast to this faster mindset, Goleman (2015) the top down mind is
much slower, which provides a voluntary attention span that can analyze an event or situation through
focus. In this manner, Goleman (2015) is really talking about the involuntary and voluntary
neurological functions of the brain that identify the differing aspects of focus that a human possesses.
This is an important part of this chapter that allows the reader to understand the brain s ability to
discern between two differing focuses options.
Another important aspects of the bottom up and top down approach that human beings tend to be
reactionary by relying too much on their involuntary focus. Therefore, the bottom up method tends to
be a driving force in concentration, which can be problematic if it is not analyzed and checked

My Study Of Landscapes And Landscape Theory
The sublime when involved specifically within nature and landscapes, concerns itself with
representing a dark scene that usually shows the uncontrollable power of nature. The focus on storms
as moments when the sleepy grandeur of nature is stirred up... arouses the inner force of the subject...
and laid the groundwork of the sublime tradition . (B.Beckley, 2001) This became my main area of
focus for my work; to create a series of paintings showing the power and unpredictability of nature
over a landscape. In my previous project I began my study of landscapes by focussing on our
everyday surrounding and variances in landscapes being dependant on individuals social and cultural
differences. In Landscape Theory, Jackson suggests landscapes ... Show more content on

This contradicts my intentions of representing the sublime in nature. This directed my work into a
more focussed outcome; to show landscape that represents both the picturesque s control and the
sublimes unpredictability. I started to experiment with various maps, specifically a familiar landscape
for me (where I grew up), and how I could incorporate or contrast these with the sublime in landscape.
I see the maps within my work as a way to represent order, and so experimented with various methods
in layering over the top to cover the controlled element in a free manner to represent the
uncontrollable aspects of the sublime creating contrast. The direction for my work was initially
inspired by my research into David Hockneys paintings in the previous term. David Hockney uses
colour theory to determine his choice of contrasting and complementary palette in his paintings. This
unique style, paired with the vast scale of most of his work, creates an immersion for the viewer into
the landscape being depicted. I wanted to recreate this within my work with scale but also colour
palette. I had little concern with specific use of colour theory, but experimented with blocks of bold,
bright colours to create the landscape; while leaving enough visual connections to allow the viewer to
depict an aerial view or map of a landscape. While reading I came across an article using the phrase
degree of abstraction . Although the article had no connection

Police Brutality And The Riot
During 1992 in South Central Los Angeles, a riot started after the news of four white Los Angeles
police officers beating Rodney King was published on TV. It became daily news. The riot caused
many crimes to occur; participants of the riot burned down business stores, destroyed properties, and
some activities involved guns that have led to many deaths. Many South Central residents were
unsatisfied with police brutality and the way their community were being treated. Although the riot
only lasted for about a week, about 52 people were killed (Kivisto and Rundblad 82). The whole
neighborhood were ruined and destroyed. Ever since that riot, there were over 1 million property loss
(Kivisto and Rundblad 82), and over 700 businesses were burned down (Bergesen and Herman para.
1). Many people lost their jobs because their workplace were destroyed.
There were many different reasons that may have caused the 1992 riot in Los Angeles to occur.
However, not all of them were the main reasons of the riot. There were many side causes, for instance,
after the video of Rodney King being beaten was shown on television, residents of South Central Los
Angeles started to act up. They were affected by how King was being mistreated and how police
brutality played a big role in the video and their society. King s incident was very similar to many
other cases. For example, Anna Deavere Smith mentioned a case about Michael Zinzun from her book

Lean Management Is A Method Of Running A Business
According to (Rouse, 2013), lean management is a method of running a business that supports the
concept of constant improvement. Therefore, lean management is a long term approach to work that
thoroughly seeks to achieve small, incremental changes in processes in order to improve efficiency
and quality. The theory was first established between 1948 and 1975 by Taiichi Ohno and Shigeo
Shingo the two Japanese engineers (Arnheiter and Maleyeff, 2005). But the method was initially
found in the works of Henry Ford, who Ohno greatly appreciated and studied Ford because of his
accomplishments and the reduction of waste at early Ford assembly plants (Arnheiter and Maleyeff,
2005). Thus Lean management eliminates all forms of waste, decreasing errors, shrinking inventory
and ordering or supplying parts just in time, therefore decreasing warehousing costs. (Rand, 2013)
identified the seven forms of waste, including waste in unnecessary motion, over processing and
transportation. Thus by doing this it will saves the business money and allows workers to pay attention
to more value creating activities. There are four main principles of lean which are (Rouse, 2013)
firstly defining the value from the perspective of the end customer, identifying each steps in a business
process and eliminating non value activities, making the value creating steps occur in tight sequence
and then finally repeating the first three steps on a constantly basis until all the waste has been
eliminated. The

type of adoption that you would like to have. The type of adoption you choose will determine if and
what type of relationship you have with your child s birth parents. The three main types of adoptions
are closed adoptions, semi open adoptions and open adoptions.
Closed Adoptions
In the past, most adoptions were closed. Many older adults who were adopted as children have no idea
who their birth parents were nor do they know anything about their medical or family history. One of

In a closed adoption, you may be asked to provide occasional updates on your child to the agency who
handled the adoption. This agency would then pass on these updates to your child s birth parents.
However, not all birth parents request this type of information.
One of the biggest advantages of semi open adoption is that your child will be able to access their
birth parent s health information, and your child s birth parents will agree to share important health
information with the adoption agency and with their child. This information can be crucial to your
child s health as they grow up.
Additionally, if your child wants to contact their birth parents when they are older, the adoption
agency can facilitate this request for them.
Open Adoptions

birth parents are. You will provide updates a few times a year to your child s birth parents, and you
may even help your child foster a relationship with their birth

Abstract
The SAARC region with over a billion populations is contiguous to the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal
and the Arabian Sea. Utilization of ocean resources for power generation such as tidal, thermal solar
and wind for energy, along with other green technologies like seaweed farming and sustainable
fisheries for food would need to be incorporated in a broad framework for the region. Development of
ocean based energy systems can be integrated with early warning networks linked by satellite which
can give a few hours to days warning to help mitigate the severity of natural disasters on human life. .
Some of the calamities of note have been the Tsunami of 2004, Bangladesh and Orissa floods,
earthquakes in Nepal and Pakistan, and recent inundation of Chennai due to weather and bad flood
management. A SAARC comprehensive Framework on disaster management was formulated in
alignment with the Hyogo Framework (2005 2015). In addition to the broad objectives of disaster
management and cooperation in the Indian Ocean and surrounding regions, impeding disasters due to
climate change need to be anticipated. Ocean energy systems are still in their infancy, while ocean

Teens And Teen Pregnancy
As us females were young we all seem to become mothers, by playing with dolls, and playing house
with others our age. It may be easy for us to say that as children we thought they needed some
assistance, but in reality that was only our imagination. As little kids did we really think about what it
would be like to really have a baby? We were children, but see the thing here is that teens are still
children who are having other children. 16 year olds do not just wake up thinking they want to have a
baby, most of the time it just happens without being planned. Teens often do not think about what life
would be like as a parent which is easy to happen and we should be informed on the reasons why and
what it really is like. The first reason why a girl can easily get pregnant is not being informed about
contraceptives. There are about 1,700 school based health centers nationwide in which about ⅓
provide contraceptives. Sexual education is very important when it comes to this, there are states that
still require parents to sign off their children receiving any sexual education in schools, in which many
of the cases the parents and their kids are too embarrassed to talk about. Although it is the parent s
responsibility to talk about it, they do not. When a teen is sexually active, it is important for them to
let a parent know, so that they can get checked. Another possible reason can be unwanted sex.

The Chimney Sweeper is a poem written by William Blake (1757 1827). His main aim is to expose the

the victimisation of children and the injustice of this oppressive labour. He shows how Tom; the

freedom, and their innocence. They re forced to live a black life, covered in soot and facing a

Compact bone contains Haversian Systems, which are in concentric circles called lamellae. Haversian
system contains a blood supply and the periosteum is located on the outside
5. Most connective tissue, including bone, is highly vascular. Which anatomical structures in Mrs.
Morgan s compact bone house blood vessels? What sign or symptom in Mrs. Morgan s case is directly
related to disruption of these structures by her bone fractures? How is the sign or symptom related to
these anatomical structures?
The Haversian system houses the blood vessels in Mrs. Morgan s compact bone. The bone tissue
sticking out the skin, the bruising and the extensive bleeding from the arm are the signs and symptoms
related to the disruption of these structures by her bone fractures. The bleeding and the bone tissue
sticking out of the skin shows how the blood vessels within the Haversian system, such as the
periosteal arteries supplying the outer area and the nutrient artery which supplies the inner part of
bone have been disrupted. The disruption of these arteries within the Haversian system will then make
Mrs Morgan s humerus susceptible to avascular necrosis.

Compare And Contrast The Dollhouse And The Fall Of The City
In the stories of The Dollhouse , by Katherine Mansfield, and The Fall of the City , by Alden Nowlan.
The two characters I am mainly focusing on are Teddy from The Fall of the City , and Lil from The
Dollhouse . These two characters were quite hard to find something in common, due to the different
time periods, and how Lil is not the main character in her story. But there are a few similarities with
both these stories. The reasons why i choose this story is that there are definitely some things that
there is a common ground. And also the challenge of finding those common grounds in these two
stories. My for connection I made from these story is that they are both lonely. We see that they don t

Evaluation Of A Separate Dialogues
Introduction
This paper focuses on the evaluation of three separate dialogues. Each dialogue contains two
characters. The first character gives an argument while the second character provides a response. The
second character is then identified as to whether or not their response meets the challenge of
argument. Subsequently, an explanation will be included in order to fully clarify the reasoning that is
given. Furthermore, an analysis of all the characters of each dialogue will be included. Terminology
studied from this semester such as the ARG conditions and various forms of fallacies will be used in
order to support the suggested analysis (Govier 87). The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate
knowledge and understanding developed from Critical Thinking I.
Dialogue 1 Jim and Roger
In this dialogue, character two does not meet the challenge of argument. Character two partially denies
the claims and premises made by character one, but only provides personal beliefs as a
counterargument. Character two explains their thoughts on the United States being the one country
capable of pressuring both parties as a mediator and what the most essential quality a mediator must
have. Character one s argument is that mediators should be completely neutral between two parties in
dispute. Character one uses a sub argument explaining the unfairness of the event in which the
mediator is in favor of either side of the party beforehand. Character two provides a partial response

Descriptive Essay About The Cafe
The cafe is a short jaunt from our apartment, a splendid notion to someone who would rather spend
the entire day hiding in her bedroom. Adorned in our jeans, thick hoodies and jackets, we braved the
frigid weather. As soon as we departed from the building, Alice deemed it necessary to add restraints
by the use of her arm linked within mine. As we enter the cafe, the clatter of dishes and a low din of
chatter penetrates my ears, while the scent of pastries mingled with fried food imbues my nostrils. The
warm air saturates my clothing, filling me with gratitude to be out of the cold. Beside me, Alice
flattens her windswept hair as she searches for a free table. A smug smile caresses my lips. Before we
left, I tied my hair back in a messy bun to prevent the menacing wind from ravaging my hair. As I
scrutinise the cafe, I observe patrons occupy each of the cream leathered booths. As my gaze drifts
over to the counter, no stools are available to us. A glimmer of hope materialises. What a shame, we ll
have to go home where I can return to my solitude. However, Alice obliterates that hope the moment
she says, There s a free table at the back. Come on. We slide along opposite benches beside the wide
window that allows the grey sky to filter in. After shedding from my jacket, I rest my hands on the
stainless steel table and interlock my fingers, and observe Alice as she continues to tackle with her
matted hair. Though bumpy, she did manage to tame it enough to tie back into a

Effects Of The Voting Rights Act Of 1965
The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was enacted into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson, its goal was to
break down the legal barriers at the state and local levels that prevented African Americans from
exercising their right to vote as it s supposed to be guaranteed under the 15th Amendment of the U.S.
Constitution. This law helped to disperse and reduce systematic discrimination that would ultimately
limit and prohibit African Americans from voting. An example of this being the literacy tests. African
Americans trying to vote would often get turned away by pollers saying that they got the date, time
etc. wrong or filled the application out incorrectly or give them the most difficult of tasks like reciting
the entire constitution all to show their

Rhetorical Analysis On Fast Food
This rhetorical analysis is over the effects of fast food and the health of the person eating it. Eat fast,
die young is the motto of the second spoof ad. The reality is that this spoof ad is accurate. Studies over
the past 30 to 50 years show that fast food and junk food is extremely unhealthy and causes obesity,
heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and several other diseases. Most fast food restaurants
serve high calorie and low density foods. That means one gets a lot of calories and very little
nutritional value from the food. Obesity rates have steadily climbed over the past 60 years as have the
number of fast food restaurants. The prevalence of obesity and obesity related diseases has increased
rapidly in the U.S. since the mid 1970s. At the same time, the number of fast food restaurants more
than doubled over the same time period, while the number of other restaurants grew at a much slower
pace. (Currie Vigna Moretti Pathania 1) Stating the fact that when one eats substantial amounts of fast
food, the health of that person will drastically decrease is definitely true. Clearly, it is not hard to
notice that a multitude of people seen on a daily basis are either overweight or obese. Even though it
may not be as noticeable, there is also a large percent of the population with other fast food related
illnesses. Diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and dietary disorders have all been contributed to
by fast food. Diseases like coronary artery disease

  • 2. Religious Conflict Of Dante s Inferno Jessica Gay World Literature Dr. Schott 9 November 2014 Religious Conflict in Dante s Inferno Critics Daniel Tompsett and Donald Winchester and literary scholar Nicole Rudick have argued that Dante s Inferno is a dark and hopeless telling of how we are all relegated to sin and lack the will or righteousness to turn from sin and temptation. Tompsett and Winchester state that, The placement of living figures in each section was a judgment and a condemnation, albeit subjective, on both history and the people he knew (Tompsett). They both agree that Dante is painting a picture of the dredges of society and the torture that they must endure as a result of their inability to turn from sin. They also quote scholar David H. Higgins to say that Dante arguably believed he was writing a gospel to convert his recalcitrant age (Tompsett). Scholar and critic Nicole Rudick confirms this portrayal of dismal hopelessness with her comment, Dante created a rigid view of good and evil, showing no mercy for those who did not repent during their lifetimes and sparing no one in his accounting of misdeeds, vice, immorality, and generally inappropriate comportment (Rudick 29). It is my opinion that the aforementioned scholars and critics are missing Dante s point. When I read the poem I am overcome with quite the opposite view. I believe that a better way to interpret Dante s poem is to consider that he was asking each of us to reflect on our waywardness and sin and to come to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the Victorian Era within which H.G. Wells novel was written, turmoil between science and religion was at its peak. New scientific theories were proposed including Darwinism, which H.G. Wells strongly advocated as witnessed in his book. Many Christians opposed these findings as these new ideas often disproved what was written in the Bible. Therefore, a divide was created amongst Christians and scientists, the basis of the material introduced in The Island of Dr. Moreau. Due to opposing conflict between science and religion, Wells proposes the solution that rules separate humanity from animals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wells articles... is whether ordinary people should be allowed to know the facts and should discuss their implications (Woolf 498). This excerpt is a prime example of the division between science and religion that was occurring throughout the time period within this book was written. Many people began to support Wells in his beliefs of scientific principles such as Darwinism. However, there were those who strongly dejected it and even became hostile that those scientific ideas were available to the public. The reason the ideas were so easily accessible were because of literary interpretation in controversial books such as The Island of Dr. Moreau. One interpretation in The Island of Dr. Moreau was that Moreau is a scientific God. Dr. Moreau and God display many of the same characteristics when comparing the Bible to H.G. Wells novel. They are both depicted as invisible, but still there watching. This is shown in The Island of Dr. Moreau as Wells has written, You cannot see him. But he can see you. Fear the law, (Wells 163). In fact, most teenagers today are exceptionally vulnerable to social conformity issues simply because social acceptance at their age is important. However, they are not the only victims struggling in this stage; there are also adults who are still swayed by the public opinions. This stage of social conformity, according to the Kohlberg s stages of moral development, is often referred to as the Interpersonal (tribal) conformity. Pi has been traced back to over 1600 BC in Egypt, and today it is celebrated world wide. Students from elementary school through college know of pi and its multiple applications. It has been used in physics, as well as in geometry. Students will even use it in trigonometry when they are doing sine waves. Students need to see how necessary pi is in mathematics and in the real world. Although it may seem pointless to some students now pi will help in numerous career fields as well as in more accelerated classes like calculus A B or AP physics. But knowing the application of pi is not just for students, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pi and algebra both are necessary. Pi does have applications in the real world that some mathematical topics just don t have. A famous Egyptian piece of papyrus gives us another ancient estimation for pi. Dated around 1650 BC, the Rhind Papyrus was written by a scribe named Ahmes. Ahmes wrote, Cut off 1/9 of a diameter and construct a square upon the remainder; this has the same area as the circle (Blatner, 8). Pi has been found in early world history. There is reference to it in the Old Testament of the Bible in 1 King 7:23, Also he made a molten sea of ten cubits from brim to brim, round in compass, and five cubits the height thereof; and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about. (Allen, 2). In Babylon, they seemed to be well aware of the Pythagorean Theorem years before Pythagoras. They had even developed a method of square root extraction equivalent to Newton s method. They had generally used the approximation π=3 (Allen, 2). In Rome, the Romans were not mathematicians they were warriors. Even with all of the mathematics that the Greeks had done at their fingertips computed the areas of circular objects using the proposition and statement, A wheel of diameter 4 feet has a perimeter of 12.5 feet . With that statement, the Romans got π≈3 1/8 (Allen, 5). • 9. Nietzsche Pain And Good Will Analysis There is a belief that pain and good will are closely related to achieving some type of happiness or fulfillment in one s life. There are many who believe that there must have been some type of great effort yielding positive outcomes or results after passing through suffering, failure, bad luck, or any element of pain. Having a good life as characterized by Nietzsche, it fosters a level of discomfort or reversal between success and achievement because he believed happiness or fulfillment was capable after failing or experiencing some type of destitution. I must disagree with Nietzsche s philosophical thought that hardship produces or reinforces a better outcome or transition which manifests a person becoming happier or fulfilled with self. In the YouTube clip, the narrator, Alain de Botton, described Nietzsche s good life is the result of hardship and pain is where the sense of fulfillment is originated. De Botton restated that Nietzsche said: any worthwhile achievement was born out of constant struggle and hard work [and] there was no such straight path to the top. • 12. President Obama s Child Farm Labor Bill President Obama wanted to pass a bill that would prevent young farm workers from participating in farm related activities and chores. Billed as an anti child labor act, the bill was quickly censured. As Leven puts it, the proposal drew heavy criticism from rural state lawmakers and agricultural leaders, who cast the rule as government overreach that would erode the traditional American family. The traditional American family in this case is a rural one, which is an under represented segment of the population in federal politics. In addition to the way the bill harms traditional rural life, it would also have significantly harmed the American economy at a time when the economy needs a boost. Farm families rely on a continuity of labor, so that the young people on the family can learn the trade as early as possible to support their future careers. Moreover, the bill represents an unnecessary encroachment of both the government and big labor on farming practices. Part of the bill s provision was to create a government intervention to oversee occupational safety, when there are already independent organizations committed to meeting the same objectives. President Obama s proposed child farm labor bill was untenable because it would damage traditional rural family life; harm a significant part of the American economy; and enable government and big labor to intrude upon the lives of Americans. • 16. Analysis Of The Film Gravity I want to start by recognizing that in my earlier film papers I have made the mistake of summarizing all of the science in each of the films from start to finish. By doing so my paper essentially became a summary of the film rather than an explanation of the science found within it. To avoid repeating these mistakes I would like to focus on a few scientific concepts that I found interesting in this film, Gravity. The first, and likely most obvious is the concept of surviving in space. Second, the concept of floating freely in space. Third, the concept of decomposition in the zero gravity atmosphere of space. And fourth, the part of the movie where lieutenant Kowalski propels himself with a fire extinguisher. I believe that Isaac Newton s three laws can help me to explain these concepts. Gravity was a thrilling film that showed a situation in which astronauts were stranded in space without a spacecraft or any means of communication. The surviving astronauts had to fight for their lives in theoretically hardly survivable and unlivable conditions. The main dilemma, and theme of the entire film, was the destruction of the International Space Station (ISS) and most of the astronauts on board. Russia launched a missile into space to destroy one of their satellites. This turned into a problem when the launch was successful, but the target was missed and the mission failed. Debris was left spiraling through space at a rapid pace. Dr. Ryan Stone survived the destruction along with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He is known for a widely spread argument in Philosophy called the Chinese Room Argument . He published his work onto paper in 1980. The argument follows that: Searle imagines himself alone in a room following a computer program for responding to Chinese characters slipped under the door. Searle understands nothing of Chinese, and yet, by following the program for manipulating symbols and numerals just as a computer does, he produces appropriate strings of Chinese characters that fool those outside into thinking there is a Chinese speaker in the room. In recent years, there has been increasing demand on crude oil and a large growth in unconventional oil sources to serve our energy requirements such as the bitumen oil sands deposits in Northern Alberta, Canada. Unlike traditional oil extraction, in the oil sands hot water or steam [1] is required to remove oil from the high viscous bitumen deposits. This extraction process consumes a large volume of water with major oil producers consuming on an average 3.1 barrels of water for the production of 1 barrel of oil with 15 20% coming from fresh water bodies [2 4]. Treating this water is challenging as hydrocarbon particles are stably dissolved in the water. Currently, the OSPW is stored in the tailing ponds to allow toxins to degrade which has a large impact on local wildlife. For example, it is estimated that in situ mining operations such as oil sands production have caused 71% decline in caribou herd from 1996 to 2008 [9,10]. The current cleaning methods are too slow for the demand, expensive, and have challenges removing oils from stable emulsion conditions seen in OSPW [9,12]. Oil spills also contain dispersed and emulsified hydrocarbon toxins. Oil spills can during any stage from extraction to usage and can have a large impact. For example, the 2010 BP deep water mining accident released 4.9 billion barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico in 87 days [16 18]. When oil spills in a water body, a physicochemical changes occur which are referred to as weathering [19 23]. Weathering includes evaporation of volatiles components, dispersion of oil particles, dissolution, microbial degradation, emulsification, spreading, and photo oxidation [24 26]. Weathering intensifies oil dissolution in seawater, causing severe damage to marine life from toxic components [27 30]. The development of the genre from the 16th to 20th centuries is evident through the differences in principles that are addressed in each text, all of which are a reflection of the values of their respective time periods. The traditional, conservative mannerisms displayed by the church were slowly losing popularity amongst its citizens. The introduction of reason, knowledge, and rationality were beginning to take center stage of the time. However, the power of the church was intact. Quite knowingly, much power presents the threat of corruption and desolation in any situation. Both Moliere and Voltaire utilize strikingly similar characters throughout their adventures in the form of Candide and Orgon. Both characters have exhibited similar levels of gullibility, wealth, and overall good outcomes despite hardships that they face. Naivety Tartuffe s Orgon is probably one of the most naïve characters to have graced a play. His never ending belief that Tartuffe is some God among men is ridiculous. Orgon believes that Tartuffe is actually, no loftier soul since time began (Moliere 114). His son did not even have a chance to reverse the way he felt about Tartuffe. • 31. The Hidden Driver Of Excellence A Summary of Chapters Three and Four in Focus: The Hidden Driver of Excellence by Daniel Goleman (450) Chapter Three: Attention Top and Bottom In this chapter, Goleman (2015) defines the important differences in the way the brain functions in order to focus on a particular object or event. The neurological function of the brain defines why there is a bottom up mind and top down mind that operates when discerning between differing focus orientation. In this way, Goleman (2015) identifies the bottom up mind as being much faster in deciphering perceived threats or challenges as an involuntary focus: Faster in brain time...involuntary and automatic (Goleman 25). In contrast to this faster mindset, Goleman (2015) the top down mind is much slower, which provides a voluntary attention span that can analyze an event or situation through focus. In this manner, Goleman (2015) is really talking about the involuntary and voluntary neurological functions of the brain that identify the differing aspects of focus that a human possesses. This is an important part of this chapter that allows the reader to understand the brain s ability to discern between two differing focuses options. Another important aspects of the bottom up and top down approach that human beings tend to be reactionary by relying too much on their involuntary focus. Therefore, the bottom up method tends to be a driving force in concentration, which can be problematic if it is not analyzed and checked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This directed my work into a more focussed outcome; to show landscape that represents both the picturesque s control and the sublimes unpredictability. I started to experiment with various maps, specifically a familiar landscape for me (where I grew up), and how I could incorporate or contrast these with the sublime in landscape. I see the maps within my work as a way to represent order, and so experimented with various methods in layering over the top to cover the controlled element in a free manner to represent the uncontrollable aspects of the sublime creating contrast. The direction for my work was initially inspired by my research into David Hockneys paintings in the previous term. David Hockney uses colour theory to determine his choice of contrasting and complementary palette in his paintings. This unique style, paired with the vast scale of most of his work, creates an immersion for the viewer into the landscape being depicted. I wanted to recreate this within my work with scale but also colour palette. I had little concern with specific use of colour theory, but experimented with blocks of bold, bright colours to create the landscape; while leaving enough visual connections to allow the viewer to depict an aerial view or map of a landscape. It became daily news. The riot caused many crimes to occur; participants of the riot burned down business stores, destroyed properties, and some activities involved guns that have led to many deaths. Many South Central residents were unsatisfied with police brutality and the way their community were being treated. Although the riot only lasted for about a week, about 52 people were killed (Kivisto and Rundblad 82). The whole neighborhood were ruined and destroyed. Ever since that riot, there were over 1 million property loss (Kivisto and Rundblad 82), and over 700 businesses were burned down (Bergesen and Herman para. 1). Many people lost their jobs because their workplace were destroyed. There were many different reasons that may have caused the 1992 riot in Los Angeles to occur. However, not all of them were the main reasons of the riot. There were many side causes, for instance, after the video of Rodney King being beaten was shown on television, residents of South Central Los Angeles started to act up. They were affected by how King was being mistreated and how police brutality played a big role in the video and their society. King s incident was very similar to many other cases. • 36. Lean Management Is A Method Of Running A Business According to (Rouse, 2013), lean management is a method of running a business that supports the concept of constant improvement. Therefore, lean management is a long term approach to work that thoroughly seeks to achieve small, incremental changes in processes in order to improve efficiency and quality. The theory was first established between 1948 and 1975 by Taiichi Ohno and Shigeo Shingo the two Japanese engineers (Arnheiter and Maleyeff, 2005). But the method was initially found in the works of Henry Ford, who Ohno greatly appreciated and studied Ford because of his accomplishments and the reduction of waste at early Ford assembly plants (Arnheiter and Maleyeff, 2005). Thus Lean management eliminates all forms of waste, decreasing errors, shrinking inventory and ordering or supplying parts just in time, therefore decreasing warehousing costs. (Rand, 2013) identified the seven forms of waste, including waste in unnecessary motion, over processing and transportation. Thus by doing this it will saves the business money and allows workers to pay attention to more value creating activities. There are four main principles of lean which are (Rouse, 2013) firstly defining the value from the perspective of the end customer, identifying each steps in a business process and eliminating non value activities, making the value creating steps occur in tight sequence and then finally repeating the first three steps on a constantly basis until all the waste has been eliminated. It may be easy for us to say that as children we thought they needed some assistance, but in reality that was only our imagination. As little kids did we really think about what it would be like to really have a baby? We were children, but see the thing here is that teens are still children who are having other children. 16 year olds do not just wake up thinking they want to have a baby, most of the time it just happens without being planned. Teens often do not think about what life would be like as a parent which is easy to happen and we should be informed on the reasons why and what it really is like. The first reason why a girl can easily get pregnant is not being informed about contraceptives. There are about 1,700 school based health centers nationwide in which about ⅓ provide contraceptives. Sexual education is very important when it comes to this, there are states that still require parents to sign off their children receiving any sexual education in schools, in which many of the cases the parents and their kids are too embarrassed to talk about. Although it is the parent s responsibility to talk about it, they do not. When a teen is sexually active, it is important for them to let a parent know, so that they can get checked. The reality is that this spoof ad is accurate. Studies over the past 30 to 50 years show that fast food and junk food is extremely unhealthy and causes obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and several other diseases. Most fast food restaurants serve high calorie and low density foods. That means one gets a lot of calories and very little nutritional value from the food. Obesity rates have steadily climbed over the past 60 years as have the number of fast food restaurants. The prevalence of obesity and obesity related diseases has increased rapidly in the U.S. since the mid 1970s. At the same time, the number of fast food restaurants more than doubled over the same time period, while the number of other restaurants grew at a much slower pace.
