China Western Han Culture
This paper focuses on two cultural artifacts and portray the differences between China Western Han
dynasty (206 BC 9 AD) and Athen, Greece (ca. 50 540BC) vessels. To this end, this paper will provide
insight into skilled vase techniques between two cultural regions. Since the beginning of time, art
historians and archeologists have had the daunting task of endlessly solving a universal puzzle.
Naturally, placing every misplaced artifact within a timeline is crucial in understanding past
civilizations. As a reminder of fallen empires and mythical stories told throughout time, these long lost
pieces discovered provide insight of their fundamental its usage. The intention is to provide proof of

Essay on The Bloody Chamber
The role of women in the gothic genre is as victims always subjected to male authority , compare and
contrast to which this interpretation is relevant to your three chosen texts. By Kristina Addis Within
My Last Duchess, The Bloody Chamber and Dracula, there is evidence to suggest that women within
the gothic genre as portrayed as victims of male authority, as well as evidence to disprove this
argument, instead suggesting that it is the women within the Gothic genre which makes themselves
victims. Angela Carter is particularly interested in the portrayal of women as victims of male
aggression as a limiting factor in the feminist perspective of the time [i] Carter, with her modern twist
on traditional fairytales places a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point she simply finds no other way but to accept the stereotypical view of a young innocent
girl in a relationship with an experienced man, another example of women being victims of male
authority. The key to the bloody chamber is the key to her selfhood and subjugation that will
ultimately kill her. The protagonist s husband clearly considers her an object of exchange and plans to
inscribe upon her his continuing tale of punishment for wives disobedience [viii] again showing how
women make themselves victims of their own behaviour, Helen Simpson s interpretation is that I
really cant see what s wrong with finding out about what the great male fantasies about women are
[ix] The heroine fights against the victimisation, and indeed reverses role with the male in the story, as
it is Marquis who dies and it is the female who leaves this chamber and finds happiness. The Snow
Child, another short story within The Bloody Chamber, is ambiguous. In this small story there are two
victims, both of them women, in this case the bloody chamber could relate to the hole in the snow that
the countess and count ride past, or it could relate to the vagina and virginity of the girl. This
expresses how the role of the women within the gothic genre is ultimately as victims, sometimes
through their naivety and innocence and sometimes through male authority. The count sees both of the
bloody chambers present as objects for his pleasure, therefore

Barbell Back Squat Essay
Barbell back squats have always been a staple exercise in every bodybuilder, powerlifter and athlete s
workout regimen. Squats not only help build size to your legs but they also have other added benefits
such as improved flexibility and an increase in testosterone and growth hormone production. There are
many different techniques to help improve your squat such as the width of your stance or the direction
your toes are pointing. But the one technique that seems to be getting the most attention is whether
squatting barefoot is more beneficial in activating more muscles in the lower limbs versus squatting
wearing an athletic shoe. The following study focuses on the activation of 8 lower limb muscles
during a barbell back squat while barefoot and in an athletic shoe. Researchers of this study
hypothesize that the barefoot condition will produce more muscle activation in comparison to the
athletic shoe condition.
Participants in this study were healthy men and women ages 18 24. There were several criterions the
participants had to meet before partaking in the study. Each individual had to successfully barbell back
squat their own body weight for 1 repetition. Also participants were constantly observed by strength
and conditioning coaches to ensure proper technique was applied to the barbell back squat. Lastly

The Soviet Union Of Russia
America ... has an interest in a strong and responsible Russia, not a weak one. We want the Russian
people to live in security, prosperity and dignity like everyone else proud of their own history. But that
does not mean Russia can run roughshod over its neighbors. Just because of Russia s deep history with
the Ukraine, does not mean it should be able to dictate Ukraine s future. (state.gov). President Barack
Obama, in March 2014, expressed the need for a more accountable and mindful Russia. Just over two
decades ago, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) or as known by most, as the Soviet

The central planning and authoritarian control of the past have shaped most of the region s political,
economic, and social conditions of today. Russia is closely associated with post Soviet states
economically, but no longer legally has control over these territories. Russia and the post‐Soviet states
are associated today as a region, primarily because of their history from the nineteenth century onward
(Pulsipher 2011). I particularly want to stress another, more complex issue for our society the
consequences of alcoholism and drug addiction. Approximately 40,000 people each year die from
alcohol poisoning in Russia, mostly as a result of drinking alcohol surrogates. Most of those deaths are
young men, the breadwinners for their families. (Address to the Federal Assembly of the Russian
Federation 2005). Vladimir Putin in his annual Address to the Federal Assembly of the Russian
Federation on April 25, 2005, addressed the growing depopulation problem that has been a huge
concern in Russia since before the collapse of the Soviet Union. Russia is one of the few industrialized
countries with a negative growth rate and has been doing so continuously for nearly two decades.
From January through March 2013 the number of births shrank by roughly 4,000 (451,700 in 2012 to
448,000 in 2013) while the number of deaths increased by around the same amount (486,600 in 2012

South Korea s Impact On North Korea
Now, the border between North and South Korea is one of the most militarized area on earth. Former
US President, Bill Clinton, mentioned The scariest place on Earth during his visit in 1993. These
shows that the relationship between North and South isn t very good. Until 1990s, South Korea had
hostile attitude towards North. However, in 1998, Kim Dae jung was elected as a president of South
Korea, South Korean government became very generous towards north, and aided North Korea
financially. From these, the relationship between North and South was very good until 2006, when the
government changed. In 2010, a South Korean naval vessel was sunk by North Korean missile. Also,
North Korea bombed South Korean island Yeonpyeong, which happened to kill numbers of civilians.
These are just two of North Korea s annual armed provocation.
From North Korea s continuous provocation, over ninety percent of people in South Korea view North
Korea s influence negatively. However, only thirteen percent of people in South Korea view North
Korea as hostile, and fifty eight percent of people in South Korea think they should cooperate with
North Korea. The reason why the majority of South Koreans wants to cooperate with North Korea is
because they are family. They are blood related family, friends, and neighbors.
China is North Korea s most important allied nation. Not only because the both countries are based on
communism, but also China supported North Korea financially, and militarily.

Fbi Crime Statistics Essay
The Accuracy of FBI Crime Statistics
If the core mission of the police is to prevent and solve crime, then crime rates should be an important
measure of police activity. Crime rates, recorded annually, would reflect the amount, as well as any
increase or decrease in the amount of crime in a community. One of the most frequently used sources
of crime rates is the Federal
Bureau of Investigation s Uniform Crime Report (UCR). The report contains data on seven serious,
commonly occurring, and commonly reported offenses including murder and non negligent
manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny/theft, and motor vehicle
theft. The number of these reported crimes, when collected annually and combined ... Show more

One major issue is that UCR only reflects crime reported to the police. According to the FBI, the UCR
reflects all actual and attempted offenses reported to an agency occurring within its jurisdiction for the
reporting month (or crimes committed in previous months but not reported until the current month).
However, other sources of crime data, including the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS),
indicate that there is more
Kennedy 2 crime occurring that what is reported to the police (Booth, Johnson, Choldin, 1977;
Biderman Lynch, 1991). For example, one study found that less than half of all burglaries and
robberies are reported to the police (Skogan, 1976). The reasons for not reporting crimes vary by
crime type and victim. However, the bottom line is that UCR data do not accurately reflect all crime
occurring in a community.
In addition to non reporting, there are also issues related to missing and incomplete data. Users of
UCR data should bear in mind that the UCR program is voluntary, with no legal requirement to report
crime figures. Despite this, the UCR still covers most of the population of the United States. The
coverage, which had

Descriptive Essay About My Dream
A dream I had recently has stuck with me. I m in a small room that I don t recognize. There s nothing
of note about it other than it has no windows and only a single bright red door. The walls and floor are
all sterile white. In the center of the room there is a round wooden table with a small fish tank in the
center of it and it has a couple of goldfish inside. I don t know where I am, but I do know that it s my
job to feed and take care of the fish. This seems like a simple enough task, but after a few minutes, I
hear a knock on the door. I open the door to see my younger sister holding another fish tank, this time
with a small purple fish inside of it. She hands it to me without saying a word, and then she leaves. I

I could make sense of most of the dream, but one part I could not figure out. Why fish?
I decided to look up what fish represented to Jung, seeing as I couldn t think of any significance
myself, other than them being relatively easy to take care of. In my research I found a few
explanations for the fish symbol, but the one that stood out to me the most was fertility. Not very
many people know this, but my husband and I have been trying to conceive for almost two years
without any luck. We ve recently been discussing going to a fertility doctor to see if there are any
issues that could be impeding us. It s something that has been weighing on my mind lately, especially
since my sister and best friend both had babies in the span of us trying.
In the end, my interpretation came to this stressing myself out and trying to do everything for
everyone else is negatively impacting my ability to become pregnant. I believe that the white room is
a connection to the fact that we are considering involving doctors, and the bright red door represents
my period, which is always an issue for me. The people coming to the door are a literal interruption of
my cycle. My doctor said that stress is likely causing me not to ovulate and that stress definitely stems
from all of the commitments in my life. I have a very big problem telling people no, which means I

The core composites for Reading (.96), Mathematics (.96), and Written Language (.93) are also highly
reliable. However, the Oral Language composite (.87) and Oral Fluency (.85) fall below the desired
(.90) standard for reliability. The Sound Symbol and Decoding composites are adequately reliable at
all age levels. Because of the format for the subtests for the Reading Fluency composite, it is not
possible to evaluate the internal consistency. The internal consistency coefficients are lower for
subtests than composites. Most of the Reading and Mathematics subtests, and the Spelling subtest
coefficients are sufficiently reliable. The majority of coefficients for the Oral Language subtests and
the Written Expression subtest are less than (.90). The coefficients for Nonsense Word Decoding are
acceptable; but the majority of coefficients for the Phonological Awareness, Associational Fluency,
and Naming Facility are below (.90). To assess the stability of the KTEA II scores over a period of
weeks, the test was administered twice to 221 children from three grade ranges (Pre K to Grade 1,
Grades 2 through 6, and Grades 7 through 12). The retest interval ranged from 11 to 60 days and
averaged 3½ to 4 weeks. Alternate form reliability was also examined in this analysis because about
half the students took Form A first and Form B second; the other half took the test in the opposite
order. The reliability correlations for the three grade ranges for the

Gould And Lewontin Summary
To Whom It May Concern, Stephen Gould and Richard Lewontin article called The Spandrels of San
Marco and the Panglossian Paradigm: a Critique of the Adaptationist Programme resembles
Dobzhansky s 1973 work because of similar dynamic between religion and evolution. This shows a
consistent religious aspect in most evolutionary writing; however, in Dobzhansky 1973 article, he
tried to persuade people to convert to evolution. Furthermore, Gould and Lewontin show how the
religious spandrels do not adaptation cost compared to organism s adaptation while providing and don
t dabble further into religion. A spandrel is the space between two arches (art history class). The reader

For example, you can have pillar that holds up the vaulted ceilings (I watched a video on this in my art
history class). Therefore, the builders at the time had to choose a design for the churches, like the St.
Mark s Cathedral, so they chose the only known structure, during this period, to be able to hold a
dome roof. Specifically, the spandrels described earlier are actually adaptive because they formed
from the benefits of its structure. Their whole point for the use of spandrels was to comment on
unsupported theories about adaptation. It is ironic that Gould and Lewontin s, by using this analogy,
are making an unsupported opinion or storytelling, as they called it. Therefore, I would suggest Gould
and Lewontin stick with what they know and do not try to incorporate information from fields that
they do not fully understand. Dobzhansky, a professor in genetics, made the same error in his 1973
work by referencing astrometry, which brings many critics through future research. Furthermore, I
would use art in general sense because, although numerous works do have meaning, a baby s scribble
has no meaning. Thus, this signifies that there is no purpose for change, non adaption. It seems that
evolutionary biologists are better off when they focus on a system, like development, living, and
evolution itself, than analogies, which is for English majors. If they could change or remove this

With the development and evolution of humanity, people need to be prepared for the major

developments we ve seen in recent years that is forcing the public to question reality. Consumers from
all over the world are flocking to the shelves to buy these newly affordable VR products that take
them to new worlds and adventures. It is argued whether or not these products will have a dramatic

lifelike scenarios which make greater demands on processing speed, memory and rendering time. The

Greece, Religion, And Beliefs In Ancient Greece
Essay Plan and Bibliography
Introduction: By the early seventh century BCE, the Greeks had formed independent city states (or
poleis) such as Athens, Sparta, Corinth and Thebes. Although they always fought for territory, they
were largely linked together in many ways such as; Male dominance, Religion/Beliefs and a system of
government.
Point 1: The Greek city states were largely male dominated. According to Darlington, men could only
vote, boys could only go to school, girls were married to men twice their age and a woman s only job
was to bear children (especially boys). All the Greek city states felt men were more important. In
Sparta, women could own land, women actually ended up owning more land than men, but they still
couldn t vote. In Athens men controlled everything that happened in the home. Marriage feasts were
one of the only occasions where the women could celebrate. This links the Greek city states together
as their society valued men above all others (children and women) ... Show more content on

important oracle, Delphi was also the navel of the world . The city states also considered Olympia and

Human suffering is a poignant part of life and takes many forms. Explore this idea, referring to three
poems in detail and to at least three other poems drawn from your wider reading. Human suffering is
feeling pain, distress or hardship in life. The three poems chosen all share the definition of human
suffering. While reading the poems War Photographer, Mother in a Refugee Camp and Prayer Before

reflecting a form of suffering that was created due to the violence of war. Carol Ann Duffy reflects the

No Madonna and child could touch her tenderness for a son . Madonna represents Virgin Mary and
child represents Christ. Chinua Achebe is implying that the mother in the poem loves her son more
than Mary loved Jesus Christ; this shows how strong the bond between the mother and her son is. In
the Catholic Church it is believed than Mary watched Jesus die and her prayer did not help him. This
may be the reason why Achebe chose this metaphor to describe what the mother is going through as
her prayer also did not help her son. Throughout the poem the reader can see that during the course of
the death of the son the mother is praying for him to be okay. Rubbed him down with bare palms.
Because palms are usually used to pray, it reminds the reader that the mother is praying to try and save
her son s life. Visual imagery was used to represent the predictable death of the son in line fifteen: the
rust colored hair left on his skull . The adjective rust colored shows that the son has been dying for a
while. Achebe also uses olfactory imagery to further describe the conditions of the refugee camp. The
air was heavy with odors of diarrhea , this shows the unhygienic conditions of the

The New Healthcare Reform Essay
The United States healthcare system has failed Americans because the government has treated it as
though only the wealthy should be taken care of. Universal Healthcare has benefited industrialized
countries like Sweden, France, and Canada because they recognize the fact that healthcare should be a
human right, and not a privilege. The debate continues over whether the reform will benefit the people
and not put the government into greater debt while politicians are raising the constitutional flag on the
reform, stating it is not constitutional to make it law that all Americans have health insurance. The

This proves that private insurers can still exist even when there is a universal plan in place. Sweden
also has a health care plan similar to France and Canada. Medical providers still remain private but the
government run program funds the insurance. The maximum amount a Swede can pay in one year is
$108 and $156 for prescriptions (Astor, 2010). Universal healthcare sounds like an obvious way to go
yet it still has not been introduced into America. Receiving healthcare should be a basic right that all
Americans deserve yet are still denied. The new reform will help with low income citizens get the care
they deserve but will still leave many uninsured. Healthcare can be considered a basic right or

The Different Forms Of Government, Friendship, Trust, And...
Within Aquinas political writings, he shows us the six different forms of government and the reason
why some are better than others. Government was created not just for organization but so people can
come together to form a community. A community works best when the governing only want well
being for the governed. Aquinas not only compares the different forms of government by showing
their benefits and drawbacks, but also argues about the supremacy of a monarchy, and how it s the best
form of government. The purpose of government is to look out for the well being of the community so
that it can keep all the basic values of human nature like religion, friendship, trust, and prosperity.
Aquinas states that government is to serve the people while taking into account peace and unity
because the good and wellbeing of a community united in fellowship lies in the preservation of its
unity (p 10). He explains that without fellowship there can be no unity and that we can find fellowship
through trust and well being. Peace gives community a sense of harmony through nonviolence and the
freedom from war. We find that government can be broken down into six different regimes, each
having a different way of ruling and a different objective. Each are different in ways yet some worse
than others. Aquinas describes each regime with a certain sense of reality and gives us an idea of what
the rulers are like within each government.
There are six forms of government; all compose of

Yoga
1.1 Introduction
The word Yoga (/ˈjoʊɡə/) in Sanskrit means to bind, to join, to yoke as well as union, communion.
Traditionally it is a spiritual, mental as well as a physical practice or discipline which originated in
India. In the west yoga is often perceived and taught as a pure physical training.
It thus means the yoking of all the powers of the body, mind and soul to God; it means the disciplining
of the intellect, the mind, the emotions, the will, which that Yoga presupposes; it means a poise of the
soul which enables one to look at life in all its aspects.

1.2 Asanas
Asana practice and yoga practice are not one and the same. Asana is but one part of what yoga is
about. (see 1.1 introduction).
Asana practice covers the main task of hatha yoga (see 1.3 different approaches to yoga) and is the
third part of Patañjali s eight steps to attain the highest state of consciousness.
Traditionally āsana means sitting condition or posture , it contributes to the steadiness of the body and
the mind and to a sense of well being. The term posture does not fully cover the meaning of āsana
though. In a posture the state of mind is not of importance. Postures are created and held below the
level of consciousness. e.g.: involuntary lifting of the shoulders while under stress, although the
person is sitting quite comfortably in a chair.
Asana is acquired voluntarily. A thought process is avoided, one is supposed to concentrate on the

Cheering Research Paper
From Ballet and Hip Hop Jazz to Cheerleading, Volleyball or Fashion, my life has been a constant
change of hobbies throughout the years. Starting at age three dancing has been a passion of mine that I
have enjoyed in my life. As I had planned in the past, becoming a ballerina would become my future
job when I became older but a new hobby camp into place; cheerleading. I have always enjoyed
cheering on my favorite team while sitting in the bleachers, but I wanted to take my excitement else
wear. In 6th grade I was a Jr. Titan cheerleader and I loved it! I didn t continue cheer in 7th grade and
sadly missed the opportunity in 8th grade but I plan to tryout for the team in 9th grade so I may
reconnect with the awesome thrill from 6th.

Character Analysis Of Ziu Xiu, The Sent Down Girl
Xiu Xiu the sent Down Girl is from the book Tian Yu, which is written by Yan Geling and directed by
Joan Chen. The Chinese government is ordering kids to go around the country to start working, Xiu
Xiu, portrayed by Li Xiaolu, is one of the kids sent to do so. She doesn t want to do this, but she
decided if she were to, she would take up horse training, so she can be a part of the Girls Iron Cavalry.
She is sent to the mountains to train under Lao Jin (Lopsang), a once famous horseman, now injured
and lives a quiet life in the mountains. Throughout the movie as the two are living together, they have
their difficulties, but it seemed like they had a good time. As time passes, Xiu Xiu is growing worry,
because she hasn t received a word from her home or the government. As for Lao Jin, he realizes that
he has feeling for Xiu Xiu, but due to his injury, he could do anything. Instead, he feels more like a
family/ Father figure in her life. This part of the movie, is like the main character looking for hope and
staying cheerful, like a child usually is.
At the middle of the movie Xiu Xiu has waited a long time to receive word about returning home or
anywhere. Until, one day a peddler (Gao Qiang) comes along, and informs her that the Girls Iron
Cavalry has disbanded. That informs the watcher that she has been up in the mountains with Lao Jin
for a long time. As they continue to talk, he tells her that she needs to make connections with people to
find a way back home, which later means having sex with numerous men. This part of the movie,
there are numerous sexual scenes and you can see that she is changing. For example, Lao Jin being the
father figure, must go through knowing that she is having sex with multiple men and yet he does what
he can do to help her and she acts very demanding/ rude to him. This part is very hard to watch,
because it tells you that the little girl from the beginning of the movie is no more. Things start to pick
up, when they are fixing up their tent and then showing her throwing up, suggesting she might be
pregnant. Again, you see Lao Jin rushing her to the hospital and the movie suggest she had an
abortion. This part of the movie is very sad, because she as the viewer, you know she will

Kerry James Marshall, an African American painter and sculptor born in 1955 in Birmingham,
Alabama creates a stunning exhibit Mastry, exclusively exhibited in museums of two major cities:
Chicago and Los Angelos. Through his large scale paintings and sculptures Marshall embodies the
history and culture of African Americans to reflect on the lives and identity of African Americans,
what it means to be an African American, and how the answers to these questions changed over time.

American history from the civil rights era to the present African American movement history in the

His painting Souvenir 1 creates a sort of memorial with historical figures such as JFK and MLK on
the walls of an old but fancy house. The house appears as a historically white person type home that
slaves and black people would typically serve in. The room painted in the picture as a light energy to it
with the use of white and light colors contrasted by the black subject with gold glitter wings. The gold
glitter wings symbolize the freedom blacks earned because of the death of the historical figures
represented in the figures subtly. Because of the historical figures in the painting, laws were passed
and people were inspired. However, historically, just because laws were passed and people were
inspired, didn t mean automatic change, it didn t mean complete freedom. That s what this painting
represents, freedom at a grasp. The black people received their wings( the laws, the courage, the
platform) to fly due to the deaths of many represented and unrepresented figures, but did they fly, can
they fly? Another piece that stood out with its Adam and Eve type mimicry is the painting Vignette.
This picture depicts two relatively young fit black figures, a boy and a girl running through an outside
area with trees, naked with butterflies and birds surrounding them, natural hair flying through the wind

After the World War II, Japan became a developed country, because the economy grew fast. And as
the first nation had compulsory education up to high school level, Japan used this system help
strengthen the economy and business. The rise of Japan has benefited from attaching importance to
education and attaching importance to the cultivation of qualified personnel. This essay will discuss
the relationship between the Japanese education system and Japanese business culture.
After the world war II, Japanese government begin the education revolution, according to the
traditional Japanese education, the state starts to make Japan became the first country had compulsory
education up to high school level. Araki, the former Minister of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign
Affairs said, From the Meiji era, the development of Japanese society and economy, especially the

And this is substantial evidence to help people link the education and business culture together.

James Bond s Sexual Prowess
Bond s Sexual Prowess When one thinks about action media, what type of characteristics come to
mind? Most would say that explosions, fast cars, ruthless villains, beautiful ladies, and strong men
define this genre filled with powerful characters such as Rambo, John McClain, and Harry Callahan.
Men like these showcase how action franchises have evolved over the last few decades, yet no hero
has impacted the genre more than James Bond. During his exploits throughout dozens of books and
movies, Bond has become a staple in pop culture. Fame doesn t come without controversy, however as
many have criticized Bond for being a sexist and a misogynist character. Meanwhile, others believe
that Bond is a prime example of a masculine hero and changing ... Show more content on

No matter how much the opposition tries, Bond should (and will) remain the sexist, misogynistic,
masculine hero that he has been for decades, and that s okay. As seen in films such as Rambo, Dirty
Harry and Terminator, all masculine heroes have flaws and inner conflicts that affect their character.
Taking those from one of the last remaining action heroes would be a terrible disservice to films and
novels everywhere. Fans have shown their support for James Bond time and time again, so what harm
can come from creating content that fans enjoy while still making small subtle changes to adapt to a
changing society? Hopefully James Bond will remain the hero he was always meant to be and
audiences in the future will be able to experience new Bond films with the same excitement as people

A Glimpse Inside Alcoholics Anonymous
A Glimpse Inside Alcoholics Anonymous
Animated in the spirit of Jesus Christ, we value all individuals unique talents, respect their dignity, and
strive to foster their commitment to excellence in our work. Our community s strength depends on the
unity and diversity of our people, on the free exchange of ideas, and on learning, living, and working
harmoniously (Saint Leo University Core Values, Respect).
Introduction. I decided I wanted to visit an Alcoholics Anonymous group meeting in my local area. It
would be a new experience for me because I have never been to that type of meeting before in my life.
I had only heard of A.A. and the support groups they offer throughout the world. They offer meetings
in every state of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and in some International countries (United States
Alcoholics Anonymous). The meeting I attended consisted of about forty three people, both men and
women. The only type of meeting I had ever been to in my life was either church related or business
related. I chose to go to this type of meeting for three reasons; I wanted to get out of my comfort zone,
I have never been around anyone with substance abuse, and I wanted to see the other side of the
spectrum to gain some insights from a different perspective. I am in Human Services for the purpose
of helping others in need. I can better help people if I become knowledgeable in the areas where they
need help the most. I grew up in church my whole life and was raised in a

Cuneiform Vs Hieroglyphics
Cuneiform and hieroglyphics were both writing systems that emerged at the dawn of humanity, but
their legacy and impact were vastly different. The two systems not only demonstrate the early concept
of writing but show contrasting elements of civilization in globalism vs nationalism, internal vs
external, connection vs isolation. The two systems certainly diverged from one another, but to
understand this, the origins of the two writing systems must be examined. Around the dawn of
civilization, in the last half of the third millennium, abstract symbols (meaning letters, numbers, and
other things that represent abstract thought) started to form from proto writing that had been present
for millennia in the Nile valley before the first abstract ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But it is undeniable that hieroglyphics had more influence on history than cuneiform did, in spite of
the fact that cuneiform was more advanced for its time. This is the first way that these systems
contrast; sophistication. Cuneiform was a more advanced system than hieroglyphics simply because
cuneiform was more abstract and it was far quicker to write Sumerian with it. Hieroglyphics was, for
much of its existence, a logographic system, making it in some ways closer to drawing than to abstract
writing such as cuneiform. However, in the Neolithic times, sophistication had an inverse relationship
with influence, that is to say, that less advanced writing systems had more influence and clout with
other cultures. This may have been because it is hard to teach an illiterate culture who may adopt a
writing system, a complex, writing scheme, or a system that doesn t work in their language. Or, it may
because the more advanced a writing system is, the fewer people in your culture understand how to
use it. This can be seen with cuneiform and hieroglyphics in a very stark way. Not many cultures used
cuneiform, and when they did it worked poorly with the language it was being used in, while
hieroglyphs informed many other writing systems, such as Hebrew, Greek, and Phoenician; it cannot
be understated the

Cold War And Communism Essay
The collapse of both the Soviet Union and socialism was a ceremony, yet to others, it was a failure. To
the everyday people who wanted rights to express, to live their life independent, and to vote, this was
a great accomplishment. To the individuals who were with the power, who did not oppose to such
policies, they remained oppressed by so a fall, especially communist bureaucrats. This large fall was
the origin of the ending of the Cold War. That was an ending to multiple catastrophic incidents that got
a point during, before, and later the Cold War. There are many cases to why the Soviet Union and
socialism in East Europe fell. The three top reasons were, the first being the Soviet s economic decline
from military spending, another being Gorbachev s perestroika and glasnost methods, and the three
being some neighboring nations of the Soviet Union were quickly facing socialism and taking fighting
against their regime. All these matters slowly and eventually led to the crumbling of the Soviet Union
and socialism in Eastern Europe. The Cold War began as tension arose due to the political competence
of communism versus democracy during the post war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These objectives changed the lives of many people. The lives of many Eastern Europeans was never
pleasant during the Cold War, for it was regulated and restricted by communists who were fixed on
developing such a system throughout the world. The Soviet Union needed to reach an extent wherever
they were the only leaders and always in control. It is maybe due to this wish and wants that their
policies and system, in the end, are lost. The Soviet s economic decline due to military spending,
Gorbachev s perestroika and glasnost management, and the quick opposing of surrounding nations of
the Soviet Union toward their government were the primary causes of the death of communism in
Eastern Europe and the dissolving of the Soviet

Role of Bank Capital
Introduction
The main aim of this report is to identify the key roles played by bank capital in the banking business.
This report briefly outlines the main functions of bank capital and takes a brief look at the benefits of
bank capital to the bank and the banking industry. It is hoped that from reading this paper a general
understanding of the roles of bank capital in the banking business can be gained.
Bank Capital
A bank s capital also known as equity is the margin by which creditors are covered if the bank s assets
were liquidated. A bank must hold enough capital to protect lenders and depositors from losses and
also allow the bank to meet its customer requirements. Banks must maintain capital levels equal with
the amount of risks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Normally this risk can also be managed easily by hedging interest rate changes by the use of
derivative instruments.
However unanticipated system wide shocks result in a greater demand for liquidity and are far more
difficult to deal with. At such times significant liquidity demands emerge from both a banks asset and
the liability side. Refinancing short term debt in the money markets is liability related and off balance
sheet exposures can unexpectedly come onto the assets side of the balance sheet. Therefore a bank
must be prepared when there is a market wide scramble for liquidity and be able to manage funding
challenges and unplanned asset expansions simultaneously by having sufficient bank capital.
Promote economic growth
A strongly capitalized banking sector also is better able to promote innovation, whether in the form of
new products, new services or new distribution channels. Banks do not just hold capital to overcome
distress, but also because it provides them with financial flexibility. Banks with a strong capital base
can take advantage of growth opportunities. A strong banking sector made up of banks with strong
capital bases, is better able to supply credit to businesses and fund

Belbin Project Management Essay
As a professional Civil Engineer, with a dense experience in project management, I would definitely
agree with Belbin (Belbin Associates, (2012) that teamwork is the key to success in any project. As
stated by Belbin: A team is not a bunch of people with job titles, but a congregation of individuals,
The best model of teamwork is what is suggested by Dr. Belbin. Caring for the role requirement and
fit in with the organization staff. Moreover, the successful project manager is the manager who
designs the team members from the cream of the cream available in the organization. As stated by
(Prabhakar, G. P. (2008)), the project manager has many responsibilities. Each undertaking has a
solitary supervisor. The venture Director is the individual accused of arranging and booking firm and
regular administration of task execution. He or she is additionally the individual with most prominent
responsibility for the attempt s prosperity. This individual gets power from the patron and assumes a

Defects Of Nuclear Weapons
Isolde Fang Current issue Benefits and defects of nuclear weapons The use of nuclear weapons is a
heated topic today, catching more attention from both the public and governments than before. While
many countries favor nuclear weapons for safety and international reasons, nuclear weapons do have
defects in moral, environmental, and economic aspects. For counties that favor nuclear weapons, they
favor them because of the benefits brought by them in guaranteeing national safety and boosting
international status. Nuclear weapons can protect a country physically, like a physical protection of
national territory, just as Sico van der Meer writes in his article States Motivations to Acquire or Forgo
Nuclear Weapons that nuclear weapons are considered to be the ultimate tool for survival. (2016) This
citation shows that nuclear weapons are so powerful that they can be used as the ultimate tool of
survival. Due to their power, they can protect a country s territory from external aggression by
deterring other countries. Japan is a good example of this kind of country. There are many possible
reactions Japan can made after the threat from North Korea of nuclear attack of U.S. bases in Japan.
Some assert that protecting Japan itself by developing nuclear weapons is a good way (Corr, 2017).
By developing nuclear weapons, Japan can deter North Korea from actual nuclear attack and protect
itself from warfare. Free of intrusion and warfare is what always pursued by all

To this end, this paper will provide insight into skilled vase techniques between two cultural regions. Since the beginning of time, art historians and archeologists have had the daunting task of endlessly solving a universal puzzle. • 3. Essay on The Bloody Chamber The role of women in the gothic genre is as victims always subjected to male authority , compare and contrast to which this interpretation is relevant to your three chosen texts. By Kristina Addis Within My Last Duchess, The Bloody Chamber and Dracula, there is evidence to suggest that women within the gothic genre as portrayed as victims of male authority, as well as evidence to disprove this argument, instead suggesting that it is the women within the Gothic genre which makes themselves victims. Angela Carter is particularly interested in the portrayal of women as victims of male aggression as a limiting factor in the feminist perspective of the time [i] Carter, with her modern twist on traditional fairytales places a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point she simply finds no other way but to accept the stereotypical view of a young innocent girl in a relationship with an experienced man, another example of women being victims of male authority. The key to the bloody chamber is the key to her selfhood and subjugation that will ultimately kill her. The protagonist s husband clearly considers her an object of exchange and plans to inscribe upon her his continuing tale of punishment for wives disobedience [viii] again showing how women make themselves victims of their own behaviour, Helen Simpson s interpretation is that I really cant see what s wrong with finding out about what the great male fantasies about women are [ix] The heroine fights against the victimisation, and indeed reverses role with the male in the story, as it is Marquis who dies and it is the female who leaves this chamber and finds happiness. The Snow Child, another short story within The Bloody Chamber, is ambiguous. In this small story there are two victims, both of them women, in this case the bloody chamber could relate to the hole in the snow that the countess and count ride past, or it could relate to the vagina and virginity of the girl. This expresses how the role of the women within the gothic genre is ultimately as victims, sometimes through their naivety and innocence and sometimes through male authority. The count sees both of the bloody chambers present as objects for his pleasure, therefore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Barbell Back Squat Essay Barbell back squats have always been a staple exercise in every bodybuilder, powerlifter and athlete s workout regimen. Squats not only help build size to your legs but they also have other added benefits such as improved flexibility and an increase in testosterone and growth hormone production. There are many different techniques to help improve your squat such as the width of your stance or the direction your toes are pointing. But the one technique that seems to be getting the most attention is whether squatting barefoot is more beneficial in activating more muscles in the lower limbs versus squatting wearing an athletic shoe. The following study focuses on the activation of 8 lower limb muscles during a barbell back squat while barefoot and in an athletic shoe. Researchers of this study hypothesize that the barefoot condition will produce more muscle activation in comparison to the athletic shoe condition. Participants in this study were healthy men and women ages 18 24. There were several criterions the participants had to meet before partaking in the study. Each individual had to successfully barbell back squat their own body weight for 1 repetition. Also participants were constantly observed by strength and conditioning coaches to ensure proper technique was applied to the barbell back squat. Lastly participants must have previously ... • 5. The Soviet Union Of Russia America ... has an interest in a strong and responsible Russia, not a weak one. We want the Russian people to live in security, prosperity and dignity like everyone else proud of their own history. But that does not mean Russia can run roughshod over its neighbors. Just because of Russia s deep history with the Ukraine, does not mean it should be able to dictate Ukraine s future. (state.gov). President Barack Obama, in March 2014, expressed the need for a more accountable and mindful Russia. Just over two decades ago, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) or as known by most, as the Soviet Union, was the largest political unit on earth. Not only was it the largest political unit, but also the largest in land mass; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The central planning and authoritarian control of the past have shaped most of the region s political, economic, and social conditions of today. Russia is closely associated with post Soviet states economically, but no longer legally has control over these territories. Russia and the post‐Soviet states are associated today as a region, primarily because of their history from the nineteenth century onward (Pulsipher 2011). I particularly want to stress another, more complex issue for our society the consequences of alcoholism and drug addiction. Approximately 40,000 people each year die from alcohol poisoning in Russia, mostly as a result of drinking alcohol surrogates. Most of those deaths are young men, the breadwinners for their families. (Address to the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation 2005). Vladimir Putin in his annual Address to the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on April 25, 2005, addressed the growing depopulation problem that has been a huge concern in Russia since before the collapse of the Soviet Union. Russia is one of the few industrialized countries with a negative growth rate and has been doing so continuously for nearly two decades. From January through March 2013 the number of births shrank by roughly 4,000 (451,700 in 2012 to 448,000 in 2013) while the number of deaths increased by around the same amount (486,600 in 2012 to 490,500 in 2013). • 6. South Korea s Impact On North Korea Now, the border between North and South Korea is one of the most militarized area on earth. Former US President, Bill Clinton, mentioned The scariest place on Earth during his visit in 1993. These shows that the relationship between North and South isn t very good. Until 1990s, South Korea had hostile attitude towards North. However, in 1998, Kim Dae jung was elected as a president of South Korea, South Korean government became very generous towards north, and aided North Korea financially. From these, the relationship between North and South was very good until 2006, when the government changed. In 2010, a South Korean naval vessel was sunk by North Korean missile. Also, North Korea bombed South Korean island Yeonpyeong, which happened to kill numbers of civilians. These are just two of North Korea s annual armed provocation. From North Korea s continuous provocation, over ninety percent of people in South Korea view North Korea s influence negatively. However, only thirteen percent of people in South Korea view North Korea as hostile, and fifty eight percent of people in South Korea think they should cooperate with North Korea. The reason why the majority of South Koreans wants to cooperate with North Korea is because they are family. They are blood related family, friends, and neighbors. China is North Korea s most important allied nation. Not only because the both countries are based on communism, but also China supported North Korea financially, and militarily. ... • 7. Fbi Crime Statistics Essay The Accuracy of FBI Crime Statistics If the core mission of the police is to prevent and solve crime, then crime rates should be an important measure of police activity. Crime rates, recorded annually, would reflect the amount, as well as any increase or decrease in the amount of crime in a community. One of the most frequently used sources of crime rates is the Federal Bureau of Investigation s Uniform Crime Report (UCR). The report contains data on seven serious, commonly occurring, and commonly reported offenses including murder and non negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny/theft, and motor vehicle theft. The number of these reported crimes, when collected annually and combined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One major issue is that UCR only reflects crime reported to the police. According to the FBI, the UCR reflects all actual and attempted offenses reported to an agency occurring within its jurisdiction for the reporting month (or crimes committed in previous months but not reported until the current month). However, other sources of crime data, including the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), indicate that there is more Kennedy 2 crime occurring that what is reported to the police (Booth, Johnson, Choldin, 1977; Biderman Lynch, 1991). For example, one study found that less than half of all burglaries and robberies are reported to the police (Skogan, 1976). The reasons for not reporting crimes vary by crime type and victim. However, the bottom line is that UCR data do not accurately reflect all crime occurring in a community. In addition to non reporting, there are also issues related to missing and incomplete data. Users of UCR data should bear in mind that the UCR program is voluntary, with no legal requirement to report crime figures. Despite this, the UCR still covers most of the population of the United States. The coverage, which had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There s nothing of note about it other than it has no windows and only a single bright red door. The walls and floor are all sterile white. In the center of the room there is a round wooden table with a small fish tank in the center of it and it has a couple of goldfish inside. I don t know where I am, but I do know that it s my job to feed and take care of the fish. This seems like a simple enough task, but after a few minutes, I hear a knock on the door. I decided to look up what fish represented to Jung, seeing as I couldn t think of any significance myself, other than them being relatively easy to take care of. In my research I found a few explanations for the fish symbol, but the one that stood out to me the most was fertility. Not very many people know this, but my husband and I have been trying to conceive for almost two years without any luck. We ve recently been discussing going to a fertility doctor to see if there are any issues that could be impeding us. It s something that has been weighing on my mind lately, especially since my sister and best friend both had babies in the span of us trying. In the end, my interpretation came to this stressing myself out and trying to do everything for everyone else is negatively impacting my ability to become pregnant. I believe that the white room is a connection to the fact that we are considering involving doctors, and the bright red door represents my period, which is always an issue for me. The test is available in 2 versions. The Brief Form assesses achievement in reading, math and written expression. The Comprehensive Form covers reading, math, written language, and oral language. The core composites for Reading (.96), Mathematics (.96), and Written Language (.93) are also highly reliable. However, the Oral Language composite (.87) and Oral Fluency (.85) fall below the desired (.90) standard for reliability. The Sound Symbol and Decoding composites are adequately reliable at all age levels. Because of the format for the subtests for the Reading Fluency composite, it is not possible to evaluate the internal consistency. The internal consistency coefficients are lower for subtests than composites. Most of the Reading and Mathematics subtests, and the Spelling subtest coefficients are sufficiently reliable. The majority of coefficients for the Oral Language subtests and the Written Expression subtest are less than (.90). The coefficients for Nonsense Word Decoding are acceptable; but the majority of coefficients for the Phonological Awareness, Associational Fluency, and Naming Facility are below (.90). To assess the stability of the KTEA II scores over a period of weeks, the test was administered twice to 221 children from three grade ranges (Pre K to Grade 1, Grades 2 through 6, and Grades 7 through 12). The retest interval ranged from 11 to 60 days and averaged 3½ to 4 weeks. Alternate form reliability was also examined in this analysis because about half the students took Form A first and Form B second; the other half took the test in the opposite order. • 12. Gould And Lewontin Summary To Whom It May Concern, Stephen Gould and Richard Lewontin article called The Spandrels of San Marco and the Panglossian Paradigm: a Critique of the Adaptationist Programme resembles Dobzhansky s 1973 work because of similar dynamic between religion and evolution. This shows a consistent religious aspect in most evolutionary writing; however, in Dobzhansky 1973 article, he tried to persuade people to convert to evolution. Furthermore, Gould and Lewontin show how the religious spandrels do not adaptation cost compared to organism s adaptation while providing and don t dabble further into religion. A spandrel is the space between two arches (art history class). The reader is provide with a great deal of information. Not only that, this article ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, you can have pillar that holds up the vaulted ceilings (I watched a video on this in my art history class). Therefore, the builders at the time had to choose a design for the churches, like the St. Mark s Cathedral, so they chose the only known structure, during this period, to be able to hold a dome roof. Specifically, the spandrels described earlier are actually adaptive because they formed from the benefits of its structure. Their whole point for the use of spandrels was to comment on unsupported theories about adaptation. It is ironic that Gould and Lewontin s, by using this analogy, are making an unsupported opinion or storytelling, as they called it. Therefore, I would suggest Gould and Lewontin stick with what they know and do not try to incorporate information from fields that they do not fully understand. Dobzhansky, a professor in genetics, made the same error in his 1973 work by referencing astrometry, which brings many critics through future research. Furthermore, I would use art in general sense because, although numerous works do have meaning, a baby s scribble has no meaning. Thus, this signifies that there is no purpose for change, non adaption. It seems that evolutionary biologists are better off when they focus on a system, like development, living, and evolution itself, than analogies, which is for English majors. Virtual reality or VR, is one of the biggest tech developments we ve seen in recent years that is forcing the public to question reality. Consumers from all over the world are flocking to the shelves to buy these newly affordable VR products that take them to new worlds and adventures. It is argued whether or not these products will have a dramatic impact on the world or just be another new technology that eventually is swept under the rug, but people are already making steps to push for a reality that includes VR products. One of the leading virtual reality website VRS.org (Virtual Reality Society) founded in 1984 by Jaron Lanier, who is often regarded as the person who coined the term virtual reality claims that Early forms of virtual reality included blocky looking graphics and crude renderings which did not take long to produce but would not meet today s ever increasing demands. People want faster, smoother and lifelike scenarios which make greater demands on processing speed, memory and rendering time. The experiences of VR users back in the 90 s is nothing compared to the 3d rendering and development of present day. Now since the demand is higher and price lower we can start seeing some of the effects on the users. The long term effects are also still being tested, but many of them are starting to be uncovered. Greece, Religion, And Beliefs In Ancient Greece Essay Plan and Bibliography Introduction: By the early seventh century BCE, the Greeks had formed independent city states (or poleis) such as Athens, Sparta, Corinth and Thebes. Although they always fought for territory, they were largely linked together in many ways such as; Male dominance, Religion/Beliefs and a system of government. Point 1: The Greek city states were largely male dominated. According to Darlington, men could only vote, boys could only go to school, girls were married to men twice their age and a woman s only job was to bear children (especially boys). All the Greek city states felt men were more important. In Sparta, women could own land, women actually ended up owning more land than men, but they still couldn t vote. In Athens men controlled everything that happened in the home. Marriage feasts were one of the only occasions where the women could celebrate. Chinua Achebe is implying that the mother in the poem loves her son more than Mary loved Jesus Christ; this shows how strong the bond between the mother and her son is. In the Catholic Church it is believed than Mary watched Jesus die and her prayer did not help him. This may be the reason why Achebe chose this metaphor to describe what the mother is going through as her prayer also did not help her son. Throughout the poem the reader can see that during the course of the death of the son the mother is praying for him to be okay. Rubbed him down with bare palms. Because palms are usually used to pray, it reminds the reader that the mother is praying to try and save her son s life. Visual imagery was used to represent the predictable death of the son in line fifteen: the rust colored hair left on his skull . The debate continues over whether the reform will benefit the people and not put the government into greater debt while politicians are raising the constitutional flag on the reform, stating it is not constitutional to make it law that all Americans have health insurance. Within Aquinas political writings, he shows us the six different forms of government and the reason why some are better than others. Government was created not just for organization but so people can come together to form a community. A community works best when the governing only want well being for the governed. Aquinas not only compares the different forms of government by showing their benefits and drawbacks, but also argues about the supremacy of a monarchy, and how it s the best form of government. The purpose of government is to look out for the well being of the community so that it can keep all the basic values of human nature like religion, friendship, trust, and prosperity. Aquinas states that government is to serve the people while taking into account peace and unity because the good and wellbeing of a community united in fellowship lies in the preservation of its unity (p 10). He explains that without fellowship there can be no unity and that we can find fellowship through trust and well being. Peace gives community a sense of harmony through nonviolence and the freedom from war. We find that government can be broken down into six different regimes, each having a different way of ruling and a different objective. Each are different in ways yet some worse than others. Aquinas describes each regime with a certain sense of reality and gives us an idea of what the rulers are like within each government. There are six forms of government; all compose of ... The Chinese government is ordering kids to go around the country to start working, Xiu Xiu, portrayed by Li Xiaolu, is one of the kids sent to do so. She doesn t want to do this, but she decided if she were to, she would take up horse training, so she can be a part of the Girls Iron Cavalry. She is sent to the mountains to train under Lao Jin (Lopsang), a once famous horseman, now injured and lives a quiet life in the mountains. Throughout the movie as the two are living together, they have their difficulties, but it seemed like they had a good time. As time passes, Xiu Xiu is growing worry, because she hasn t received a word from her home or the government. As for Lao Jin, he realizes that he has feeling for Xiu Xiu, but due to his injury, he could do anything. Instead, he feels more like a family/ Father figure in her life. This part of the movie, is like the main character looking for hope and staying cheerful, like a child usually is. At the middle of the movie Xiu Xiu has waited a long time to receive word about returning home or anywhere. Until, one day a peddler (Gao Qiang) comes along, and informs her that the Girls Iron Cavalry has disbanded. That informs the watcher that she has been up in the mountains with Lao Jin for a long time. As they continue to talk, he tells her that she needs to make connections with people to find a way back home, which later means having sex with numerous men. This part of the movie, there are numerous sexual scenes and you can see that she is changing. For example, Lao Jin being the father figure, must go through knowing that she is having sex with multiple men and yet he does what he can do to help her and she acts very demanding/ rude to him. This part is very hard to watch, because it tells you that the little girl from the beginning of the movie is no more. Things start to pick up, when they are fixing up their tent and then showing her throwing up, suggesting she might be pregnant. Again, you see Lao Jin rushing her to the hospital and the movie suggest she had an abortion. This part of the movie is very sad, because she as the viewer, you know she will ... The two systems not only demonstrate the early concept of writing but show contrasting elements of civilization in globalism vs nationalism, internal vs external, connection vs isolation. The two systems certainly diverged from one another, but to understand this, the origins of the two writing systems must be examined. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But it is undeniable that hieroglyphics had more influence on history than cuneiform did, in spite of the fact that cuneiform was more advanced for its time. This is the first way that these systems contrast; sophistication. Cuneiform was a more advanced system than hieroglyphics simply because cuneiform was more abstract and it was far quicker to write Sumerian with it. Hieroglyphics was, for much of its existence, a logographic system, making it in some ways closer to drawing than to abstract writing such as cuneiform. However, in the Neolithic times, sophistication had an inverse relationship with influence, that is to say, that less advanced writing systems had more influence and clout with other cultures. This may have been because it is hard to teach an illiterate culture who may adopt a writing system, a complex, writing scheme, or a system that doesn t work in their language. Or, it may because the more advanced a writing system is, the fewer people in your culture understand how to use it. This can be seen with cuneiform and hieroglyphics in a very stark way. Not many cultures used cuneiform, and when they did it worked poorly with the language it was being used in, while hieroglyphs informed many other writing systems, such as Hebrew, Greek, and Phoenician; it cannot be understated the ...
