Landscaping Ideas
Coming home to a resort style garden is like being on vacation every day of the year. Outdoor areas
are often the last to receive design attention, but they shouldn t be: What surrounds your home is just
as important as what s in it. Well designed landscaping ideas can complement your home s
architectural design, and the right plants and flowers can greatly enhance your curb appeal by adding
color, texture and even fragrance to your yard.
Foliage and Trees
For the most part, tropical gardens rely on foliage rather than flowers to create interest year round.
Combine lively and colorful easy care plants that wont triple your water bill and plant them in groups
of odd numbers (three, five, seven, etc.) to create a broad stroke of color and texture.

Persuasive Essay On The Meaning Of Life
Daunting is one of the best word choices when attempting to discover the meaning of life. Those
words alone leave many as a deer in headlights. Approaching the topic by baby steps is a more
underwhelming way but it does not make the leap any less risky or terrifying. Why we search for
meaning in our unknown, limited time on earth and what our specific purpose actually consists of are
intimidating questions that do not to seem have obvious universal answers. Nevertheless, the answers
may simply lie within our own comprehension and perspectives of the ordeal we label as life.
The reason we search for meaning comes almost innately. In other words, it is as if we end up on the
journey for purpose without really trying and when we do try, it is just as exhausting. Immanuel Kant,
a German philosopher, expresses that we should try to question this journey because it is a sign of
what he considers to be the ultimate pathway to enlightenment. He states, this immaturity is self
imposed when its cause lies not in lack of understanding, but in lack of resolve and courage to use it
without guidance from another (Kant, 1). In other words, Kant knows we are all capable of
considering the meaning of life but we never take the chance or courage to leap. He also feels that
society often limits us to think this way and therefore we all become accustomed to remaining on what
Paul Tillich refers to as the surface which will be explained in the further noting how experience

Empire Notes
Empire
Niall Ferguson
Introduction * To the British, as to people in the rest of the world, imperialism s golden age is now
considered a stain on human history, an era of slavery and racism and the plunder of native lands and
peoples. The notion that imperialism is inherently evil, and that no empire can be a good empire, is an
axiom in today s geopolitics. * Examines the British Empire from an economic perspective,
controversially concluding that the British Empire was, on balance, a good thing * Globalisation is the
biggest thing that Ferguson thanks the British for * English language and ties to London made it
possible * The Leftist opponents of globalisation naturally regard it as no more than the latest ... Show

* However, this was not all done in a fit of absence of mind since from the reign of Elizabeth I
onwards, there had been a sustained campaign to take over the Empires of others * They had robbed

supreme Notion of imitation, founded on the premise of copying others
White Plague * Commerce and conquest by themselves would not have been enough to achieve an
Empire no matter what the financial strength or naval power of the British there had to be colonization
* Ferguson is disinclined to believe in the authorised American view of 1776 as a struggle for liberty
against an evil empire . * The imperialists were already experimenting with schemes for devolution,
and politicians at Westminster imagined that American colonies might settle down into membership of
a prototype Commonwealth , with the monarch as a unifying figurehead. * The battles across the
Atlantic merely extended a conflict at home between Whigs and Tories. This, Ferguson argues, really
was the second British or perhaps the first American Civil War. * Some myths about the American
War of Independence are shattered * Ferguson argues that the revolution , contrary to the conventional
revisionist modern American narrative of freedom and

Misrepresentation In Popular Culture
The exclusion, or rather misrepresentation of people of color in popular culture has become a
cataclysm in our society. Regrettably, the exclusion, or blatant misrepresentation hadn t received as
much deserving cognizance until recent controversies surrounding the 2016 Oscars. Seemingly, the
visual of a uniformed undiversified audience served as a catalyst for awareness; the tension from the
issue unveiled how there was still an undercurrent racism present in the system, and that in turn
exposed how stagnant our society has been on the issues of institutionalized racism. Notwithstanding
the active minds of bell hooks and Melissa Harris Perry confronting the issue of inaccurate
misrepresentation of POC, the award show revealed much of the unperceived ... Show more content

When the misrepresentation of POC in films becomes an indicator that we are not boldly confronting
the issues needed to be confronted, a change must occur. As bell hooks and many other active
progressive thinkers, emboldened by the current racial inequalities of our society, have asserted, pop
culture has a significant impact on our perception of matter. In knowing the impact, it is imperative
that in the concurring systematic oppressions we do not remain stagnant. Through a close examination
of films: Pan, Braveheart, and Ghost in the Shell, we can vividly see how the overrepresentation of
white expose the underlying oppression within our society. According to the statistics conducted by
USC, there is an evident disproportion of minorities in both film and media. Yet, this disproportion is
rarely challenged. The Oscars of 2016 became a visual catalyst in the need for proper representation.
The prevalence of institutionalized racism in our current society can never truly be effaced if we fail to
grasp its strong presence in popular culture. The existing racism in Hollywood explicitly displays a
regression in racial equality in society. Hollywood is more than sorority racist; it is plagued by
something far worse: It is plagued by institutionalized racism. The three movies and their
whitewashed cast explore the racism within the system. In acknowledging the flaws, an effort should

Literature Review On Equine Therapy
Literature Review
Source 1
In source 1, an article written by the ASDF (Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation), from the website
www.myasdf.org , assessed in 2012, with the title How your child can Benefit from Equine Therapy),
it states that Autistic children/people benefit immensely from Equine Therapy (horse encounters).
For thousands of years the bond between man and animal has proven to be effective in creating an
emotional, healing bond. Children/people with autism also benefit from equine therapy due to the
motor, emotional and sensory sensations that come with riding a horse. Equine Therapy is seen as the
most mysterious yet beautiful form of intervention for Autistic people.
A significant amount of benefits and improvements were found using Equine Therapy for Autistic
children:

Developing good motor control is a fundamental element of developing necessary life skills. Horse
therapy for autistic children allows the participants to use their muscles to control the movement of the
horse. Some include grooming activities that improve fine motor skills as well. Communication is
developed. The motivating nature of the activities makes them ideal for encouraging communication.
The inability to communicate effectively can be extremely frustrating for people on the autism
spectrum. Although people diagnosed with Asperger s syndrome may not exhibit problems with
language, some significant difficulties with communication are apparent when you look at details
about Aspergers closely. Equestrian programs for autistic children promote communication. The child
is highly motivated to use language and signs to ask to ride, continue riding, and to interact with the
animals. The nonverbal interaction between the child and the horse is a building block. The child

Examples Of Romanticism In Frankenstein
Another aspect of romanticism that is prevalent in Shelly s novel is the way Frankenstein, and his
creation, are controlled by their emotions. Frankenstein is continually ruled by his feelings of fear,
guilt, and love throughout the novel. For instance, he works for nearly two years to accomplish his
goal of creating life, only to immediately flee because of fear when his work comes to life. This was a
major illustration for the reader that despite being an experienced scientist Frankenstein was still ruled
by emotions. In a large portion of the novel Frankenstein seems to be completely motivated by his fear
of the creature he created. When his brother died, he feared people discovering his secret so he let an
innocent woman stand trial. When the monster requested a partner, his fear of the monster propelled
him to try, only to have his fear of having two creatures alive stop him from completing the work. At
the end of the story, Frankenstein s anger over the death of his family members propelled him to chase
the creature across the frozen waters, which lead to his death. Frankenstein was a brilliant thinker who
was continually consumed and motivated by his emotions. Frankenstein s creation was also very much
controlled by his emotions. After he is created and Frankenstein flees from him, he searches across the
land to find companions. The creature is repeatedly rejected because of his looks, and because of that
he is self conscience of the fact that he is

Hunger of Memory by Richard Rodriguez
In Richard Rodriguez autobiography, Hunger of Memory, Richard himself writes about his
educational journey. Rodriguez wrote such book in 1982. The book revolves around the life a young
immigrant child, whom has a difficult time understanding how to adapt himself in the given
environment. Furthermore, the book navigates the readers though Richards transition form boyhood to
adulthood. Not only so, but Richard discusses how the opportunities that were presented to him altered
his viewpoints in life as well as education. At a very young age, himself and his family immigrated to
the United States. Once established in the United States he was enrolled in a Roman Catholic
elementary school, alongside his brother and sister. During the time, Richard only knew about fifty
English words. He suffered from shyness, when it came to his English class. He did not speak that
much, thus after six months nun s from the school went to his house to discuss the given situation with
Richards parents. The nuns suggested that Richard s parents should practice the English language
more in their home. The parents agreed, which infuriated Richard because he felt as if his parents had
pushed aside their own language as well as their culture. Most importantly, Richard felt that the only
thing that brought them close together, before, was gone. Richard was given daily tutoring sessions,
which helped him learn more English. However, he notes that during the same process he and his

Water Pollution In South Africa
Introduction Water is a scarce resource in South Africa, making the countries rural citizens highly
dependent on rivers, dams and underground water as a water supply. The countries increasing
population has seen an increase in the demand for water but also a decrease in its accessibility. This is
because an increase in population also increases the rate of pollution of water. Through estimation, it
is said that South Africa s population will have doubled by the year 2025, thus further endangering the
quality of water in South Africa. (Staff Writer, 2015) The consumption of water of poor quality can be
fatal not only to human lives but also the lives of the animals or livestock that consume it. Bacteria
and viruses within water are the causes of water borne diseases such as cholera, typhoid and
gastroenteritis. One of the main causes of death for children in South Africa under the age of five is, in
fact, gastroenteritis. These diseases pose a greater threat to the informal settlers situated along river
banks (or any other natural water source) because they use the water directly from the river without
sufficiently purifying it or without purifying it at all. Also, their ability to seek good medical care after
exposure is limited. This means that they are more likely to die from a water borne disease that is
otherwise preventable. (Umngeni Valley Nature Reserve, 2017) The aim and focus of this
investigation is to determine the impact that the town of Howick has on the water

Government In Brave New World
The government within the novel Brave New World goes to extreme measures to legitimize itself. It s
most extreme form of legitimization is going to great lengths to create significant class divides
amongst its citizens. From the beginning of an individual s life within this society their embryo is
exposed to different genetic enhancers and more or less oxygen depending on where they are
supposed to be in the caste system. Later on, as infants, certain castes are taught to dislike and fear
certain things. The government even goes to the lengths of sleep hypnosis to ensure the divide
amongst individuals in society. The conditioning of people also enhances this divide or separation
between people so that they don t fall in love with others, or

diagnosed by the appearance and the elimination of other factors that Ella had mild eczema on her
face and arms. This was also confirmed by the practice teacher. Eczema is an inflammatory skin
condition that causes intense itching of the affected area and sometimes can be scaly red and itchy
(National Eczema society, 2016). Assessment of eczema in babies and children must be holistic,
taking into account physical and psychosocial factors. There is no cure for eczema and treatments aim
to control the disease. First line treatment consists of emollients, but many babies and children will
also require the use of topical corticosteroids and other treatments as appropriate (NICE,2007).
Moreover, on observation the reddened area there appeared to be no signs of broken skin, infection
therefore requiring antibiotics or topical steroid treatment (NICE, 2007). There was currently no need
for a General Practitioner (GP) referral and as advised in the NPC (1999) only in genuine need should

Fidel Castro got interested in the idea of Marxism when he wed his first wife and was exposed to a
certain type of posh lifestyle, that he barely saw as a child. So, he was very influenced by the people in
this class, they re government views and beliefs rubbed off on him easily: so he decided to run for a
seat on the Cuban congress. One of the beliefs that Castro absorbed was Marxism, the idea that every
single piece of written human history has been divided by economical classes and every progression in
history has happened due to economic struggle. Also, communism will become the norm because the

agriculture but he dissembled all U.S. businesses and farms in Cuba. He was stepping on U.S. s toes
when he decided to have strong relations with Russia. The U.S. wanted Castro out of power, so the
U.S. constructed the Bay of Pigs invasion, a CIA attempt to use anti Castro exiles to use a surprise
attack against Castro, but they were outnumbered by Castro s troops. By 1962, the U.S. placed an
embargo on Cuba and all trade, travel, and business with Cuba was cut off. In the same year, Castro
allowed Russia to put missile sites in Cuba. Castro did this so he can threaten the U.S. The United
States surrounded Cuba to block off any deliveries from Russia. This led to the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Over years, Cuban people suffered from food shortages and no personal freedoms. No country wanted
to trade with Cuba because of the bad blood between them and the U.S., so Cuba s economy suffered
but Russia was keeping them afloat. But after the Soviet Union s fall, Cuba suffered greatly. But

How Do I Explain Behaviour.
Lecture How do we explain behavior
Behaviour generally refers to actions or reactions (an activity or response of some kind) of an object
or organism usually in relation to the environment or surrounding world of stimuli. Behaviour can be
conscious or unconscious, overt or covert, voluntary or involuntary, sometimes it can be common,
unusual, acceptable, or outside acceptable limits. The acceptability of behavior is evaluated relative to
social norms and regulated by various means of social control.
Insight into human behavior comes from both scientific and non scientific investigations. The
knowledge obtained through the senses (sight, sound, touch, taste, smell) and experiences is non
scientific. The knowledge acquired through this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Political scientists study international relationships, the workings of government, and the exercise of
power and authority.
Psychologists investigate personality and individual behaviour.
Sociologists focus on the influence society has on people s attitudes and behaviour and the ways in
which people shape society. They scientifically examine human social relationships.
PSYCHOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR
Psychology is an academic and applied field that is often defined as the scientific study of mental
processes and behavior. Psychologists want to understand every aspect of behavior (humans and
organisms) therefore they explore the unknown world of nature through the use of scientific methods
which eliminate bias and opinion and provide convincing evidence.
Other methods of obtaining knowledge such as intuitions and personal experiences, logical deductions
and common sense or pronouncements of authority figures are not accepted by scientists. These
sources of knowledge rely on opinions or beliefs that others may disagree with, or may be created by
someone who is biased or wrong. The scientific study of psychology is especially geared towards
learning about an organism s behavior by observing and studying that behaviour, while minimizing the
influences of bias or opinion.
Psychology differs from sociology, anthropology, economics, and political science in part because it
involves studying the mental processes and behavior of individuals (alone or in

Maximum Phonational Frequency Range Case Studies
Maximum Phonational Frequency Range (MPFR) is described as the maximum range of phonation
between a client s lowest modal/chest register tone and highest loft tone/falsetto register. The MPFR is
typically determined by using a pitch matching procedure. Ms. Noid will be instructed to sustain a
vowel (i.e. /a/) matching the pitch of a presented tone (i.e. sine wave). She will start phonation at a
comfortable frequency level, and will incrementally increase her frequency range production, until she
can no longer sustain phonation. Then, Ms. Noid will be instructed to incrementally decrease her
frequency range until her modal phonation can no longer be sustained.
The rationale for using an MPFR measure is to explore the physical condition of the phonatory
mechanism. Furthermore, it is a way to quantify the client s frequency variability, measured through
an entire range of frequencies (i.e. highest to lowest), which are produced with maximal effort.
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ms. Noid will have a constrained phonational frequency range of approximately 1 2 octaves,
reflecting a physiological limitation and impaired vocal mechanism, due to a unilateral vocal fold
paralysis. She will be unable to transition between low to high frequency ranges, and exhibit a vocal
quality characterized as breathy and hoarse.
3. Frequency Perturbation (jitter) is an indicator of the stability of phonation. It is a measurement of
cycle to cycle variability in fundamental frequency. Typically, results are acquired from a three second
mid segment sample of a sustained phonation task, avoiding phonatory onset and offset. Fundamental
frequency and intensity values should be specified since they vary, affecting the Frequency
Perturbation (jitter) values.
The rationale for measuring jitter is that it provides objective measures for distinguishing a normal
from a disordered voice, and estimates vocal

Explaining And Discussing Dante s Vision Of Hell
Explaining and Discussing Dante s Vision of Hell in The Inferno Dante s explanation of Hell has
fascinated many individuals by the way it is explained, and more than likely made many use their
mind and overthink it. When readers confront The Inferno, they might be surprised or blown minded
by the way Dante explains what he went through. Many people after reading this might have changed
their way of thinking of Hell because of Dante s lecture, or maybe some still thought the same. Not
everyone thinks that there is a heaven nor a hell, everyone has different believes depending on their
culture and most importantly their religion. Religion is what makes people decide what they believe in
and what not to believe in. When Dante passes through the gates of Hell he knew right away it was
trouble without a doubt, he explains that there is different levels in Hell depending on what that
individual might have done on earth. Virgil is the one who leads Dante into the Gates of Hell, as soon
as Dante enters he then hears countless cries from the many souls that lived on earth and lived their
lives without being aware of their moral choices. Virgil leads Dante to Acheron, which was a river,
and it marks the border of Hell according to the book. Across it there will be many dead souls waiting
to be crossed. Charon was an old man who recognizes Dante and tells him to stay away from the dead
in Hell but then troubles them no longer. Unexpectedly fire and wind rises up from the

Episode Of War Naturalism
Naturalism analyses objectivity and the loss of individuality to study the instinctual nature of human
beings when governed by forces beyond their control. An Episode of War by Stephen Crane uses
elements of naturalism to describe what happens to a lieutenant after being shot in the arm. Characters
in naturalism literature, such as the lieutenant, experience forces of heredity, environment, passion, or
instinct that weaken their attempts to exercise free will. In An Episode of War, Crane incorporates a
dynamic setting, evolving characterization, and person vs self conflict to prove that war brings more
tragedy than glory. The use of dynamic setting in the story contributes to the instinctual forces the
character experiences and the dark scenes involved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also through the evolution of the character, we see how he is made less and less of a hero and more of
a strange object that has been damaged by war. Before he was shot, the lieutenant had a position and a
duty that he took seriously. With the shot of a single mysterious bullet into his arm, he transforms into
an unknown version of himself that displaces the people around him and becomes unrecognizable to
himself. At this moment, the men around him gazed statue like and silent, astonished and awed by this
catastrophe, as if they no longer recognize the man he was (Crane 1). He begins to feel helpless and as
if being wounded has made him into very brittle glass (Crane 2). Moving further away from his
position and duty as a lieutenant, he fades more into a dazed man, wandering around to find his way to
get the help that he needs. He realizes that he does not know how to be correctly wounded (Crane 2).
This is evolving characterization because he does change in a significant way after being shot. He
loses any sense of glory that he had and feels the direct consequence of being in

The Purpose Of A Case Study
Media research indicates that journalistic standards and practices are socially constructed systems,
which deal with complex work processes by organising news flow and explicating roles and
competencies (Tuchman 1978; Fishman 1980). The case study method is regarded as a valid tool to
analyse a complex issue. A case study is defined as an empirical inquiry that investigates a
contemporary phenomenon within its real life context (Yin 2003: 13). It is best used to understand
complex social and organisational issues. Case study evidence to answer research questions and
contribute to theory development originates from a variety of sources, such as documentation, archival
records, interviews (qualitative or quantitative) and observation. In this ... Show more content on

The second is that it is not easily open to generalisation but if it is contextualised and carefully
described then others can consider its usefulness in other contexts and examples (Wisker 2001:191).
Finally, Dominick and Wimmer argue that case studies are likely to be time consuming and may
occasionally produce massive quantities of data that are hard to summarise (1987: 165). With regard
to this study, I would like to argue that the strengths of observations outweigh the weaknesses. In
addition, there is simply no other method that applies better to what I want to investigate. The findings
are not representative of all newsrooms experimenting with convergence since the research is derived
from one case. Therefore I do not wish to generalise any findings from this case study. I tried to
provide readers with good raw material for their own generalising because the reader can make his or

insights that could be probed for future

Benefits Of Supply Induced Demand
The graph below is an illustration of Reinhardt fee test that argues that supply induced demand is
identified when despite an increase in supply (S1 to S2), demand increases sufficiently (D1 to D3)
cause price rise (P1 to P3). Had there been no supply induced demand, an increase in supply would
have resulted in lowering of price (P1 to P2). As can be predicted, not only does this method raise
costs and threatens long term sustainability of the healthcare system, it discourages the efficiencies of
integrated care. Any referral to another health professional equates to loss of income for the doctors
and reduces the quality of healthcare. As figure 1 shows, despite having one of the highest healthcare
expenditures per capita, Canada ranks 10th out of 11 developed countries in terms of quality of its
healthcare system. Canada being one of the largest countries in the world, faces a unique challenge of
geographic distribution of doctors. The remote and rural areas have low population density and
because the FFS mechanism relies on volume of patients that a doctor attends to, it influences their
distribution with a higher number settled in high density areas. The disadvantages of the FFS payment
model coupled with poor performance of the Canadian healthcare system compared to its global
counterparts does necessitate a call to address the payment model to reimburse doctors. Not only will
this help to improve the quality but also help contain costs and enable viability of the

Chapter I. THEORETICAL ASPECT OF USING VISUAL MATERIAL IN TEACHING ENGLISH
1.1. The importance of using visual aids in teaching English Nowadays, whereever you go around the
world you can find a certain people who can communicate with English Language. Because of
globalization and other reasons English is going to be the language of the world. Apart from the use of
English as their mother tongue in some countries there are a number of countries who can teach
English as Second Language or Foreign Language. Hence, in order to use English Language more
effectively and efficiently having rich knowledge of vocabulary is crucial. In most cases you can find
communication break down when the students at school are not able to recall the appropriate word for
the right situation of interaction. So in order to overcome this and similar problems the use of visual
materials in teaching English Language vocabulary is mandatory. The use of visual materials makes
the meaning of the words memorable and long lasting in students mind. Visual Education is not new.
It has years of research back of it. A Dutch Humanist theologist and writer Erasmus (1466 1536)
disclosed memorization as a technique of learning and advocated that the children should learn
through the aids of pictures or other visuals. While John Amos Comenius (1592 1670) prepared a
book known as Orbis Sensilium Pictus (the word of sense objects) which contained near about 150
pictures on aspects of

Examining The Super Molecular Assembly Of A Fumigatus Cell...
1) Examining the super molecular assembly of A. fumigatus cell walls.
In anticipating for this proposed study, we have
produced 13C, 15N uniformly labeled A. fumigatus (Af293 strain) and the isotope enrichment
provides good sensitivity for structural characterization using multidimensional solid state NMR (Fig.
2A, B). We will measure a series of 2D and 3D correlation spectra, both through bond and through
space, on the fungus to assign NMR resonances and analyze cell wall composition. The 13C chemical
shifts of protein and chitins are easily resolved from glucans due to differences in their chemical
structures. The glucan linkage, however, is highly diverse and difficult to distinguish among different
forms. We will thus systematically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2) Investigating the mobility and hydration of A. fumigatus cell molecules.
The delivery pathway and depth of insertion of inhibitors will be affected by the mechanistic property
and porosity of fungal cell walls, which can be examined by measuring the mobility and hydration of
biomolecules. Our preliminary 1D data have revealed a very distinct dynamical profile for cell wall
molecules for A. fumigatus (Fig. 3). The 1H 13C INEPT spectrum (Fig.3, top) showed quite a few
sharp resonances belonging to very mobile molecules, while the 1H 13C cross polarization spectrum
(Fig 3, bottom) contained only broad peaks from the rigid molecules, including chitins. These results
led us to hypothesize that chitin forms the rigid scaffold whereas glucans form a relatively mobile
matrix. We will also measure transverse and longitudinal relaxation times, chemical shift anisotropy,
and dipolar couplings with site specific resolutions. The combined measurements cover a wide range
of motions happening from nanoseconds to milliseconds, including both local reorientation and
collective motion of multiple sugar rings. It is particularly interesting to know whether dynamical
heterogeneity is present for the same molecule. For example, for β 1,3 glucan, some disordered chains
could fill the interstitial space between chitin microfibrils while other partially oriented chains can
hydrogen bond to the chitin surface becoming partially rigidified. If this scenario occurs, we will
observe

How Does Smell Affect Taste
Mrs. Harris PD.3
Venice High school
Does smell affect the way you taste? Smell is based on sensors that detects different chemicals. Your
ability to smell comes from specialized sensory cells, called olfactory sensory neurons, which are
found in a small patch of tissue high inside the nose. These cells connect directly to the brain. Each
olfactory neuron has one odor receptor. 2 The sensors go off and then its sends a message to your
brain. Once the neurons detect the molecules, they send messages to your brain, which identifies the
smell. 2
On our tongue and throat there are taste buds and the react to food and drinks being mixed with saliva.
Many of the small bumps that can be seen on the tongue contain taste buds. These surface ... Show

Yes, according to my research smell and taste are directly linked with each other. I can back this up
with my own personal experiment. The data that I collected showed that when I had my nose
unplugged and my eyes closed I guessed all the jolly rancher flavors correctly. When I had my nose
plugged and my eyes closed I only guessed two out of five right. Then when I gathered all of the class
data it was the same results. My data compared with the others proves that its trust worthy and also
that it helps prove that smell affects the way we perceive taste.

Pros And Cons Of High Stake Testing
High Stake Testing According to our textbook, high stake testing involves all students including those
with disabilities participating in a standardized summative common assessment, which is mandated by
the federal government. (Salend, 2016, pg 454) These assessments are used to measure mastery of
benchmarks in the curriculum. (Salend, 2016, pg 454) These assessments are used and analyzed in
order to make important decisions. The results of high stake testing can be used to make decisions
about a student s education program and promotion. They often are used to measure teaching
effectiveness. The use of high stake testing is highly controversial. Many argue these tests are not an
accurate depiction of a student s abilities. Not every student is a good test taker, and other means of
assessments could be used to measure student s skills and abilities. It may also cause pressure on
students as well as cause testing anxiety and lack of motivation in some students. (Salend, 2016, pg
455) Other consequences of high stake testing is that is puts too much reliance on a test to measure
teacher effectiveness. It also puts a lot of pressure on teachers since they are often evaluated based on
the results of students performance on the test. This may lead to teacher s teaching to the test and may
limit their creativity and time spent on other content outside of the test. There are alternative testing
assessments and testing accommodations available for students with disabilities.

Theme Of Social Class In The Great Gatsby
Social Class is defined as a division of society based on social and economic status. Social Class in
today s society determines popularity and reputation. Life s great opportunities come easier for people
higher on the social class ladder. Some people are born into a higher social ranking than others. These
people have it made for the rest of their lives. They really don t have to work for anything. For one
who is not as fortunate, is it possible for them to climb to the high end of the social ladder? One would
think so. As literature and real life examples show that it is most definitely possible. People don t
usually agree with the Rags to Riches concept because of how hard it is to go up a social ranking.

The crime scene is actually in two places because it starts at the resident of the Van Dam s which is
where the initial crime occurred in the room of Danielle van Dam. From this point officer s should be

evidence. To see if anything was left behind to see if a comparison can be made as to who have all
been at the Van Dam residence to analyze and question all to find who could or would want to kidnap
Danielle. The second crime scene in question is the home of the Van Dam s neighbor David
Westerfield because it was discovered that he was the main suspect of the kidnapping of Danielle van
Dam. There was some of Danielle s DNA at the home of Mr. Westerfield in which it was stated that
she was being held there after she was abducted from her home. Once the police were called by the
parents of Danielle when they discovered that she was missing. The next crime scene is the motor
home of David Westerfield was stocked with supplies on Saturday morning when he left his home
minutes after Brenda Danielle s mother called the police to report her daughter missing. The motor
home became the main crime scene because it yields the most evidence and it is where the crime of

In turn, this result in the allowance of the muscles to contract is involuntary and requires no thought.
The relationship between the structure and function of the Outer Wall Intestine cells is, in the
structure, the fibers are short and not striated, while since the cells are smooth cells this allows the
function of the cells to be involuntary and is composed in the lining of the organ. The contractions of
the cells allow the organ to keep blood, fluids, and necessary nutrients to flow throughout the organ.
Slide 1:Muscle Skeletal Longitudinal Section and Slide 2:Muscle Skeletal Cross Section Yes, there are
multiple striations across the width of the Muscle Skeletal Longitudinal Section of the cells and the
Muscle Skeletal Cross Section cells. There are several nuclei in both cells. The fibers in both cells are
striated, and the fibers are long and each muscle cell is fused to one another. This is why so many
nuclei are included. Also, the fibers are almost threadlike, with dark and light colored striations. As a
result of the contractions in the Muscle Skeletal Longitudinal Section cells and the Muscle Skeletal
Cross Section cells, it allows your muscle to be able to contract in response to nerve stimuli. This
means that the movements of most of these muscles are not involuntary, you can control them.
Therefore, once the stimulation stops, the muscles relax. The relationship between the structure and
the function

Film Industry Depression
Movies have always been an important part of American s lives. They are a way to escape everyday
life and experience action and adventure of some sort. Throughout time, movies have developed into
what they are today. During a time of depression and economic worries, The Hollywood Movie
Industry flourished and greatly influenced people s lives in the 1930s. The movies were a captivating
escape from the reality of the depression. During a time of economic hardship, people needed
something to hold onto and hope for. For many, movies was this hope. Petra Press said that The most
popular of these escapes by far was the magic of motion pictures (Press 87). In saying this she meant
that movies were the number one source of freedom from the depression. ... Show more content on

Shirley Temple, a famous child star, had a franchise of coloring books and dolls made after her, and
cities across America even hosted look alike Shirley Temple contests (Feinstein 19). Jean Harlow, an
actor with platinum blond hair, influenced a trend of many girls who wanted to dye their hair this
bright blond color (Press 88). These two actors specifically, along with many others, influenced the
style and way of life for many. Some movies helped to solve issues, such as I am a Fugitive from the
Chain Game. This movie promoted the reform of corrupt courts in the 1930s (Press 92). Another
movie at the time taught the lesson that it is not about the stereotypical class but the people in it. This
movie was The Philadelphia Story (Jensen). Some other movies were simply popular because of the
current culture, and because of how well done they were. For example, Gone with the Wind is one of
the best known movies in American history and was set in the time of the Civil War (1930s: At a
Glance 370). Another extremely popular movie was the 1939 musical, The Wizard of Oz, because it
whisked audiences away into a magical land filled with far more hope then their own (1930s: At a
Glance 370). Other movies simply had to do with the current issues and with life at the time. These
movies were influenced by the 1930s, rather than influencing the 1930s. An example of a movie like
this was The Gold Diggers of 1939, which

Admitting that she talks to a book would make her even more of an outcast at school. She also faced
external conflict with trying to figure out what to do, who to tell, and how she would get him out of
the book. Through tests and ideas, Delilah lost hope until one day she got sucked into the book. She
realized she never wanted to leave her world and became more understanding of what her mother
wanted of her. She saw Oliver s vision and when she returned to her world she went to find the one
seen in Oliver s vision, the author. This author had stopped writing after the death of her husband and
was very cautious while talking to Delilah. She got through to the author and made the connection that
Oliver was based off her son Edgar. He thought it was stupid because he felt he would never live up to
this Oliver character. Edgar plays video games for most of the day and Delilah got the feeling he
might be the one to show Oliver to. He refused to allow himself to think that Oliver is really alive in
the story, but came to see that he really is alive. After she tried to retype the ending, it failed multiple
times. While Delilah was asleep, Edgar rewrote the story and when she woke up, she realized Edgar
and Oliver switched places. Edgar wanted to escape his world so he could be the hero for once. Her
conflicts were mostly resolved except for the fact that she was a long ways from home and her mother
was very upset that she ran

  • 2. Landscaping Ideas Coming home to a resort style garden is like being on vacation every day of the year. Outdoor areas are often the last to receive design attention, but they shouldn t be: What surrounds your home is just as important as what s in it. Well designed landscaping ideas can complement your home s architectural design, and the right plants and flowers can greatly enhance your curb appeal by adding color, texture and even fragrance to your yard. Foliage and Trees For the most part, tropical gardens rely on foliage rather than flowers to create interest year round. Combine lively and colorful easy care plants that wont triple your water bill and plant them in groups of odd numbers (three, five, seven, etc.) to create a broad stroke of color and texture. ... • 3. Persuasive Essay On The Meaning Of Life Daunting is one of the best word choices when attempting to discover the meaning of life. Those words alone leave many as a deer in headlights. Approaching the topic by baby steps is a more underwhelming way but it does not make the leap any less risky or terrifying. Why we search for meaning in our unknown, limited time on earth and what our specific purpose actually consists of are intimidating questions that do not to seem have obvious universal answers. Nevertheless, the answers may simply lie within our own comprehension and perspectives of the ordeal we label as life. The reason we search for meaning comes almost innately. In other words, it is as if we end up on the journey for purpose without really trying and when we do try, it is just as exhausting. Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, expresses that we should try to question this journey because it is a sign of what he considers to be the ultimate pathway to enlightenment. He states, this immaturity is self imposed when its cause lies not in lack of understanding, but in lack of resolve and courage to use it without guidance from another (Kant, 1). In other words, Kant knows we are all capable of considering the meaning of life but we never take the chance or courage to leap. He also feels that society often limits us to think this way and therefore we all become accustomed to remaining on what Paul Tillich refers to as the surface which will be explained in the further noting how experience effects our ... • 4. Empire Notes Empire Niall Ferguson Introduction * To the British, as to people in the rest of the world, imperialism s golden age is now considered a stain on human history, an era of slavery and racism and the plunder of native lands and peoples. The notion that imperialism is inherently evil, and that no empire can be a good empire, is an axiom in today s geopolitics. * Examines the British Empire from an economic perspective, controversially concluding that the British Empire was, on balance, a good thing * Globalisation is the biggest thing that Ferguson thanks the British for * English language and ties to London made it possible * The Leftist opponents of globalisation naturally regard it as no more than the latest ... This, Ferguson argues, really was the second British or perhaps the first American Civil War. * Some myths about the American War of Independence are shattered * Ferguson argues that the revolution , contrary to the conventional revisionist modern American narrative of freedom and ... • 5. Misrepresentation In Popular Culture The exclusion, or rather misrepresentation of people of color in popular culture has become a cataclysm in our society. Regrettably, the exclusion, or blatant misrepresentation hadn t received as much deserving cognizance until recent controversies surrounding the 2016 Oscars. Seemingly, the visual of a uniformed undiversified audience served as a catalyst for awareness; the tension from the issue unveiled how there was still an undercurrent racism present in the system, and that in turn exposed how stagnant our society has been on the issues of institutionalized racism. Notwithstanding the active minds of bell hooks and Melissa Harris Perry confronting the issue of inaccurate misrepresentation of POC, the award show revealed much of the unperceived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the misrepresentation of POC in films becomes an indicator that we are not boldly confronting the issues needed to be confronted, a change must occur. As bell hooks and many other active progressive thinkers, emboldened by the current racial inequalities of our society, have asserted, pop culture has a significant impact on our perception of matter. In knowing the impact, it is imperative that in the concurring systematic oppressions we do not remain stagnant. Through a close examination of films: Pan, Braveheart, and Ghost in the Shell, we can vividly see how the overrepresentation of white expose the underlying oppression within our society. According to the statistics conducted by USC, there is an evident disproportion of minorities in both film and media. Yet, this disproportion is rarely challenged. The Oscars of 2016 became a visual catalyst in the need for proper representation. The prevalence of institutionalized racism in our current society can never truly be effaced if we fail to grasp its strong presence in popular culture. The existing racism in Hollywood explicitly displays a regression in racial equality in society. Hollywood is more than sorority racist; it is plagued by something far worse: It is plagued by institutionalized racism. The three movies and their whitewashed cast explore the racism within the system. In acknowledging the flaws, an effort should be made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Examples Of Romanticism In Frankenstein Another aspect of romanticism that is prevalent in Shelly s novel is the way Frankenstein, and his creation, are controlled by their emotions. Frankenstein is continually ruled by his feelings of fear, guilt, and love throughout the novel. For instance, he works for nearly two years to accomplish his goal of creating life, only to immediately flee because of fear when his work comes to life. This was a major illustration for the reader that despite being an experienced scientist Frankenstein was still ruled by emotions. In a large portion of the novel Frankenstein seems to be completely motivated by his fear of the creature he created. When his brother died, he feared people discovering his secret so he let an innocent woman stand trial. When the monster requested a partner, his fear of the monster propelled him to try, only to have his fear of having two creatures alive stop him from completing the work. At the end of the story, Frankenstein s anger over the death of his family members propelled him to chase the creature across the frozen waters, which lead to his death. Frankenstein was a brilliant thinker who was continually consumed and motivated by his emotions. Frankenstein s creation was also very much controlled by his emotions. After he is created and Frankenstein flees from him, he searches across the land to find companions. The creature is repeatedly rejected because of his looks, and because of that he is self conscience of the fact that he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Hunger of Memory by Richard Rodriguez In Richard Rodriguez autobiography, Hunger of Memory, Richard himself writes about his educational journey. Rodriguez wrote such book in 1982. The book revolves around the life a young immigrant child, whom has a difficult time understanding how to adapt himself in the given environment. Furthermore, the book navigates the readers though Richards transition form boyhood to adulthood. Not only so, but Richard discusses how the opportunities that were presented to him altered his viewpoints in life as well as education. At a very young age, himself and his family immigrated to the United States. Once established in the United States he was enrolled in a Roman Catholic elementary school, alongside his brother and sister. During the time, Richard only knew about fifty English words. He suffered from shyness, when it came to his English class. He did not speak that much, thus after six months nun s from the school went to his house to discuss the given situation with Richards parents. The nuns suggested that Richard s parents should practice the English language more in their home. The parents agreed, which infuriated Richard because he felt as if his parents had pushed aside their own language as well as their culture. Most importantly, Richard felt that the only thing that brought them close together, before, was gone. Richard was given daily tutoring sessions, which helped him learn more English. • 10. Water Pollution In South Africa Introduction Water is a scarce resource in South Africa, making the countries rural citizens highly dependent on rivers, dams and underground water as a water supply. The countries increasing population has seen an increase in the demand for water but also a decrease in its accessibility. This is because an increase in population also increases the rate of pollution of water. Through estimation, it is said that South Africa s population will have doubled by the year 2025, thus further endangering the quality of water in South Africa. (Staff Writer, 2015) The consumption of water of poor quality can be fatal not only to human lives but also the lives of the animals or livestock that consume it. Bacteria and viruses within water are the causes of water borne diseases such as cholera, typhoid and gastroenteritis. One of the main causes of death for children in South Africa under the age of five is, in fact, gastroenteritis. These diseases pose a greater threat to the informal settlers situated along river banks (or any other natural water source) because they use the water directly from the river without sufficiently purifying it or without purifying it at all. Also, their ability to seek good medical care after exposure is limited. This means that they are more likely to die from a water borne disease that is otherwise preventable. (Umngeni Valley Nature Reserve, 2017) The aim and focus of this investigation is to determine the impact that the town of Howick has on the water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lecture How do we explain behavior Behaviour generally refers to actions or reactions (an activity or response of some kind) of an object or organism usually in relation to the environment or surrounding world of stimuli. Behaviour can be conscious or unconscious, overt or covert, voluntary or involuntary, sometimes it can be common, unusual, acceptable, or outside acceptable limits. The acceptability of behavior is evaluated relative to social norms and regulated by various means of social control. Political scientists study international relationships, the workings of government, and the exercise of power and authority. Psychologists investigate personality and individual behaviour. Sociologists focus on the influence society has on people s attitudes and behaviour and the ways in which people shape society. They scientifically examine human social relationships. PSYCHOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR Psychology is an academic and applied field that is often defined as the scientific study of mental processes and behavior. Psychologists want to understand every aspect of behavior (humans and organisms) therefore they explore the unknown world of nature through the use of scientific methods which eliminate bias and opinion and provide convincing evidence. Other methods of obtaining knowledge such as intuitions and personal experiences, logical deductions and common sense or pronouncements of authority figures are not accepted by scientists. These sources of knowledge rely on opinions or beliefs that others may disagree with, or may be created by someone who is biased or wrong. The scientific study of psychology is especially geared towards learning about an organism s behavior by observing and studying that behaviour, while minimizing the influences of bias or opinion. • 15. Maximum Phonational Frequency Range Case Studies Maximum Phonational Frequency Range (MPFR) is described as the maximum range of phonation between a client s lowest modal/chest register tone and highest loft tone/falsetto register. The MPFR is typically determined by using a pitch matching procedure. Ms. Noid will be instructed to sustain a vowel (i.e. /a/) matching the pitch of a presented tone (i.e. sine wave). She will start phonation at a comfortable frequency level, and will incrementally increase her frequency range production, until she can no longer sustain phonation. Then, Ms. Noid will be instructed to incrementally decrease her frequency range until her modal phonation can no longer be sustained. The rationale for using an MPFR measure is to explore the physical condition of the phonatory mechanism. Explaining And Discussing Dante s Vision Of Hell Explaining and Discussing Dante s Vision of Hell in The Inferno Dante s explanation of Hell has fascinated many individuals by the way it is explained, and more than likely made many use their mind and overthink it. When readers confront The Inferno, they might be surprised or blown minded by the way Dante explains what he went through. Many people after reading this might have changed their way of thinking of Hell because of Dante s lecture, or maybe some still thought the same. Not everyone thinks that there is a heaven nor a hell, everyone has different believes depending on their culture and most importantly their religion. Religion is what makes people decide what they believe in and what not to believe in. When Dante passes through the gates of Hell he knew right away it was trouble without a doubt, he explains that there is different levels in Hell depending on what that individual might have done on earth. Virgil is the one who leads Dante into the Gates of Hell, as soon as Dante enters he then hears countless cries from the many souls that lived on earth and lived their lives without being aware of their moral choices. Virgil leads Dante to Acheron, which was a river, and it marks the border of Hell according to the book. Across it there will be many dead souls waiting to be crossed. An Episode of War by Stephen Crane uses elements of naturalism to describe what happens to a lieutenant after being shot in the arm. Characters in naturalism literature, such as the lieutenant, experience forces of heredity, environment, passion, or instinct that weaken their attempts to exercise free will. In An Episode of War, Crane incorporates a dynamic setting, evolving characterization, and person vs self conflict to prove that war brings more tragedy than glory. Also through the evolution of the character, we see how he is made less and less of a hero and more of a strange object that has been damaged by war. Before he was shot, the lieutenant had a position and a duty that he took seriously. With the shot of a single mysterious bullet into his arm, he transforms into an unknown version of himself that displaces the people around him and becomes unrecognizable to himself. At this moment, the men around him gazed statue like and silent, astonished and awed by this catastrophe, as if they no longer recognize the man he was (Crane 1). He begins to feel helpless and as if being wounded has made him into very brittle glass (Crane 2). Moving further away from his position and duty as a lieutenant, he fades more into a dazed man, wandering around to find his way to get the help that he needs. The Purpose Of A Case Study Media research indicates that journalistic standards and practices are socially constructed systems, which deal with complex work processes by organising news flow and explicating roles and competencies (Tuchman 1978; Fishman 1980). A case study is defined as an empirical inquiry that investigates a contemporary phenomenon within its real life context (Yin 2003: 13). As can be predicted, not only does this method raise costs and threatens long term sustainability of the healthcare system, it discourages the efficiencies of integrated care. Any referral to another health professional equates to loss of income for the doctors and reduces the quality of healthcare. As figure 1 shows, despite having one of the highest healthcare expenditures per capita, Canada ranks 10th out of 11 developed countries in terms of quality of its healthcare system. Canada being one of the largest countries in the world, faces a unique challenge of geographic distribution of doctors. The remote and rural areas have low population density and because the FFS mechanism relies on volume of patients that a doctor attends to, it influences their distribution with a higher number settled in high density areas. The disadvantages of the FFS payment model coupled with poor performance of the Canadian healthcare system compared to its global counterparts does necessitate a call to address the payment model to reimburse doctors. The importance of using visual aids in teaching English Nowadays, whereever you go around the world you can find a certain people who can communicate with English Language. Because of globalization and other reasons English is going to be the language of the world. Apart from the use of English as their mother tongue in some countries there are a number of countries who can teach English as Second Language or Foreign Language. Hence, in order to use English Language more effectively and efficiently having rich knowledge of vocabulary is crucial. In most cases you can find communication break down when the students at school are not able to recall the appropriate word for the right situation of interaction. So in order to overcome this and similar problems the use of visual materials in teaching English Language vocabulary is mandatory. The use of visual materials makes the meaning of the words memorable and long lasting in students mind. Visual Education is not new. It has years of research back of it. A Dutch Humanist theologist and writer Erasmus (1466 1536) disclosed memorization as a technique of learning and advocated that the children should learn through the aids of pictures or other visuals. In anticipating for this proposed study, we have produced 13C, 15N uniformly labeled A. fumigatus (Af293 strain) and the isotope enrichment provides good sensitivity for structural characterization using multidimensional solid state NMR (Fig. 2A, B). We will measure a series of 2D and 3D correlation spectra, both through bond and through space, on the fungus to assign NMR resonances and analyze cell wall composition. The 13C chemical shifts of protein and chitins are easily resolved from glucans due to differences in their chemical structures. The glucan linkage, however, is highly diverse and difficult to distinguish among different forms. We will thus systematically ... The delivery pathway and depth of insertion of inhibitors will be affected by the mechanistic property and porosity of fungal cell walls, which can be examined by measuring the mobility and hydration of biomolecules. Our preliminary 1D data have revealed a very distinct dynamical profile for cell wall molecules for A. fumigatus (Fig. 3). The 1H 13C INEPT spectrum (Fig.3, top) showed quite a few sharp resonances belonging to very mobile molecules, while the 1H 13C cross polarization spectrum (Fig 3, bottom) contained only broad peaks from the rigid molecules, including chitins. These results led us to hypothesize that chitin forms the rigid scaffold whereas glucans form a relatively mobile matrix. We will also measure transverse and longitudinal relaxation times, chemical shift anisotropy, and dipolar couplings with site specific resolutions. The combined measurements cover a wide range of motions happening from nanoseconds to milliseconds, including both local reorientation and collective motion of multiple sugar rings. It is particularly interesting to know whether dynamical heterogeneity is present for the same molecule. For example, for β 1,3 glucan, some disordered chains could fill the interstitial space between chitin microfibrils while other partially oriented chains can hydrogen bond to the chitin surface becoming partially rigidified. Your ability to smell comes from specialized sensory cells, called olfactory sensory neurons, which are found in a small patch of tissue high inside the nose. These cells connect directly to the brain. Each olfactory neuron has one odor receptor. 2 The sensors go off and then its sends a message to your brain. Once the neurons detect the molecules, they send messages to your brain, which identifies the smell. 2 On our tongue and throat there are taste buds and the react to food and drinks being mixed with saliva. • 25. Pros And Cons Of High Stake Testing High Stake Testing According to our textbook, high stake testing involves all students including those with disabilities participating in a standardized summative common assessment, which is mandated by the federal government. (Salend, 2016, pg 454) These assessments are used to measure mastery of benchmarks in the curriculum. (Salend, 2016, pg 454) These assessments are used and analyzed in order to make important decisions. The results of high stake testing can be used to make decisions about a student s education program and promotion. They often are used to measure teaching effectiveness. The use of high stake testing is highly controversial. Many argue these tests are not an accurate depiction of a student s abilities. Not every student is a good test taker, and other means of assessments could be used to measure student s skills and abilities. It may also cause pressure on students as well as cause testing anxiety and lack of motivation in some students. (Salend, 2016, pg 455) Other consequences of high stake testing is that is puts too much reliance on a test to measure teacher effectiveness. It also puts a lot of pressure on teachers since they are often evaluated based on the results of students performance on the test. This may lead to teacher s teaching to the test and may limit their creativity and time spent on other content outside of the test. There are alternative testing assessments and testing accommodations available for students with disabilities. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
