Essay Prompt
The Half Has Never Been Told
:Slavery and the making of American Capitalism
Back when America was being shaped, tobacco was the main slave produced trade in the colonies.
Plantations all across the south had a majority of the slaves from Africa brought here on ships. Forced
to work for their slave owners. Tobacco wasn t the only booming business. Cotton soon came into the
picture, the north was a more industrial economy, while the south remained agricultural. The most
important economic development in the mid 19th century was the shift from the upper south to lower
south. The upper south relied on tobacco , it was very unstable , and the land was used. So the shift to
cotton was a necessity.
Slavery was huge in america, and it even lead to a civil war, it lasted a very long time, from 1619
1865. We still struggle with slavery today because we still struggle with its legacy. Without cotton the
north would not have been able to industrialize, at least not as quickly because cotton textiles were
one of the first industrially produced products and the most important commodity in world trade by
the 19th century. Almost every plantation owner bought slaves. The south was so plowed into slaves
there was little room for technological advances, like railroads, I think the south sucked at the civil
war thing because of that reason. In short slavery dominated the south, shaping it both economically
and culturally. It s

The Wrist Test
Five Ingenious Ways to Check Your Own Breath We ve all been there. That sinking feeling of deep
regret...for the garlic aioli drizzled atop the freshly sliced onions on your deluxe munster cheeseburger.
Each interaction for the remainder of the day is permeated by an invisible cloud of humid dragon
breath, potentially offending a client, or worse, cutting short a hot date. Here are five ways to
determine the degree of lethality your breath is imposing on those poor souls who happen to wander
within six feet of you. 1. The Wrist Test Perhaps the easiest method with lightning fast results is The
Wrist Test. Simply lick the inside of your (clean) wrist, ensuring the lick originates from the far
reaches of the back of your tongue for accuracy s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Imagine that flavor in a gaseous state. We lucky ducks are smelling what you re tasting. Thanks a lot.
3. The Gauze Test Nearly identical to The Wrist Test, this test is designed for those who d prefer to
avoid the inevitable questioning that comes with licking yourself in public. Find some white medical
gauze we want that sterilization, it s less likely that your test may be tainted with foreign matter.
Beginning as far back on your tongue as possible without tossing your cookies, firmly draw a portion
of the gauze forward, gathering a hazardous sample of your...tongue gunk. Examine the gauze. Is it
yellow? Brown? That s definitely not good. Brace yourself and take a deep whiff of the cloth. Yeah,
you didn t come out of this looking so great. 4. The At Home Kit Test Yes, this exists. A scientific kit,
easily purchasable on the internet, that does the smelling for you. This is an ideal test for those in
denial. The at home breath test market is surprisingly diverse, offering everything from pocket sized
electronic thingamabobs to mailing samples to a lab. Also great for anonymously leaving in
conspicuous places for those close to you that you d rather not get close

Legal Differences And The Legal Types Of A Business...
Identify and describe the legal categories of a business organization contrasting tax related advantages
and disadvantages. There are three main forms of business organizations that are commonly known
globally; they include; Sole Proprietorship, Partnership as well as Corporation. Looking at the Sole
proprietorship, it is conventionally known as a business run by one person who is also the owner. This
means that the owner has 100% control over the business. This form of business organization is easy
to establish since it needs very few legal requirements. There is also no need of having partners or
shareholders and the taxes paid in this business organization is only on the income generated. That
means that after paying the taxes, all remaining profits remains with the owner. Disadvantages of this
structure include less share of expertise since the owner is the only partner. The owner also has
unlimited liability for the debts and any malpractices which also includes bearing all maintenance
costs (Beyer et al. 2010). For the partnership, it involves more than one player who is also involved in
the business structure. The partners share all costs and profits after entering into an agreement that
intends to share any commercial interests. The partners also contribute funds to start and operate the
business as the starting capital. This means that there is a pool of experience and resources by the two
and the partners share the taxes. The disadvantages of this form of

My I Decided For A Teacher
The day I decided that I wanted to be a teacher I pictured myself choosing my favorite books and
having thoughtful discussions. I imagined my students would enjoy the many activities we completed
and at the end of the unit they would take a test and we would move on to the next topic. I was
unaware of what the field of education would actually entail. I soon learned that teaching was nothing
like what I imagined. I didn t realize that my teachers made teaching a classroom full of student look
easy because they used several techniques. They realized that they must take into account not only
what they are teaching (content), but also whom they are teaching (individual students) (Corley,
2007). As I ve learned more about my field I have realized that teaching involves providing the best
education to students based on their ability to learn. When you understand that this is what teaching is
about, you try practices that will make your instruction stronger. Differentiation is one way to make
sure that all learners gain the education they deserve.
Learning Plan When planning any lesson, I always consult the standards to determine what students
must know and be able to do. The standard for this lesson states, Students analyze, make inferences
and draw conclusions about persuasive text and provide evidence from text to support their analysis.
Students are expected to: evaluate the merits of an argument, action, or policy by analyzing the

Speech Community Research Paper
Transitioning between speech communities A lot of people struggle within speech communities
because after high school some people don t go to college so they never progress their speech skills.
When a person doesn t progress like there friends they might be embarrassed that they don t
understand or is just complained confused what their friends are saying. Struggling within a speech
community is not abnormal a lot of people go through a phase like that but they usually find someone
to help them through the phase. If you re struggling through a speech community just find a tutor or an
English teacher or even a friend to help you transition through to the next speech community in your

If you never move from one speech community to the next it could affect you in many ways if you
have keep improving your way of speech it could open up more job opportunities for you. Because
employers look for people who can talk to them and understand what they re trying to say instead of
you just looking at them weird because you don t understand them. Also you may find more respect by
your peers and teachers because you talking better shows your teachers you have been paying
attention to them and not just been wasting their time. The transition could have negative affects on
you in your group of friends because you might improve faster then they do and they may exclude you
from that group. The future of you depends on how you act if you still act like a highschooler you
might find it hard to get anywhere you could have a lot of street smart like Malcolm X and become
successful. But Malcolm x found out the hard way he might be street smart but he couldn t handle it in

Criticism Of Cultural Relativism
Cultural relativism is the theory where there is no objective truth in morality, and moral truths are
determined by different cultures. The primary argument used to justify cultural relativism is the
cultural differences argument, which claims different cultures have different moral practices and
beliefs, therefore, there is no objective truth in morality (Newton). After reading James Rachels The
Challenge of Cultural Relativism, I find his criticisms to be persuasive because the argument made for
Cultural Relativism is not sound from a logical point of view. You cannot draw a conclusion about
what is factual based on what people believe is factual. Rachels also points out that even though
cultures do in fact disagree about moral values, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In our country, someone who likes to be helpful is considered a model citizen, whereas in his own
country he would be considered abnormal (Benedict p.2). Benedict used this example.to argue that
like behavior, morality is culturally determined and that what can be morally right for one society can
be considered morally wrong for another (Newton, Evaluating Cultural Relativism).
Where Ruth Benedict believed morality is relative, James Rachels disagrees. This is where I would
have to agree with James Rachels criticisms regarding the Cultural Difference Argument. The premise
argues that different cultures have different moral codes. The conclusion argues that there is no
objective truth in morality and right and wrong are only matters of opinion, and opinions vary from
culture to culture. Cultural relativists argue from facts about different cultural outlooks to the
conclusion about the status of morality. Rachels uses the shape of the earth as an example. In some
societies, people believe the Earth is flat. In others, people believe it is spherical. If using the Cultural
Difference Argument, our premise would be that societies disagree about the shape of the earth. We
would then conclude there is no fact of the matter about the shape of the earth (Rachels p.20 21).
This is not a logical argument because belief does not instantly imply truth. The premise of an
argument is

Marilyn Monroe Emotional Issues
One of the things a woman wants most in this world is for someone to relate and/or understand her.
Ever since I can remember, I ve had that one person to look up to that I felt could relate to me. As long
as I can remember, that person was Marilyn Monroe. At about the age of 5, I saw her face on the
television screen and by about the age of 12 years old, I was researching all I could about her. The
more I learned about her, the more my love grew for her and the more I knew she would understand
me if she were here today. Marilyn Monroe was an iconic celebrity but also very relatable to the
average woman who deals things such as tough emotional issues, harsh body image problems and
having a hard time trusting people or building relationships.
Everyone has issues that we deal with; we re only human, right? The emotional issues we deal with
daily can be anger, sadness, depression, etc. Marilyn dealt with these emotions as much as anyone
else, but there was a time she had said, I am not a victim of emotional conflicts. I am human . She
understood that as a human being, we all have emotional problems, but it s how one deals with their
emotions that matters. These emotional issues can stem from many different situations or moments in
our life. Dealing with a bully in school, an abusive parent or whatever it may be, can cause these
issues. Unfortunately, Marilyn had to deal with emotional issues stemming form the relationship with
her mother. One of Marilyn s family members was quoted saying: Gladys didn t hug, kiss or smile,
Marilyn s niece, Mona Rae Miracle, exclusively tells Closer. She was delusional, and she heard voices
from electrical appliances. She was antisocial and unable to express any emotion, except anger .
Marilyn s mother s inability to feel or express emotions was of no benefit to the growth of an
impressionable girl such as Marilyn. Marilyn unfortunately paid dearly from this and grew up battling
her emotions all of the time. So, knowing what we ve learned so far, there s no doubt that Marilyn
Monroe dealt with the same kind of problems your average jane deals with.
Emotional issues wouldn t be the only way for Marilyn to relate to us average Janes these days,
because she

Enlightenment Attitudes Towards Religion Essay
Enlightenment Attitudes Towards Religion
Scientific and philosophical innovations during the 18th century brought about a new breed of
thinkers. Their driving forces of rational and reason shifted the religious temperament of the elite from
enthusiasts to intellectuals. They argued that there was no divine standard of morality, no afterlife to
divert humanity from worldly concerns (The Western Experience, pg. 657). They were radicals who
sought to displace the authority of religion. Driven by reason, enlightenment thinkers naturally
opposed superstition and attempted to replace religious mysticism with philosophical standards and
scientific formulations. Their shift of focus highlighted reverence for the Creator and moral teachings

660). Dennis Diderot echoes this sentiment in his encyclopedic definition of the term irreligious
stating that morality is the universal law that the finger of God has engraved on all our hearts, and that
consequently we should not confuse immortality and irreligion. Mortality can exist without religion;
and religion, perhaps, even exits frequently with immortality (Course Pak, Chapter 2, pg. 157).
Further Diderot sites the Fathers of a council of Toledo in his definition of intolerance where they state
do no violence of any kind to people in order to lead them back to faith, for God is merciful or severe
to whomever he chooses (Course Pak, Chapter 2, pg. 156). By siting the fathers, Diderot masterfully
escapes censorship while fighting the churches belligerence with its own words. Catholic Habsurg
emperor Joseph II championed the philosophy of tolerance in 1781 in the Edict of Toleration. The
Edict granted Jews and Catholics the same religious and civil rights, this was the first time such an act
was condoned by a Catholic Habsburg ruler. In addition it also tried to limit the power of the Catholic
Church by ordering the dissolution of numerous monasteries which were useless and corrupt. (The
Western Experience, pg. 660). While tolerance proved to be an important concept of the
enlightenment, deism was indeed the primary religious doctrine. Voltaire, one of the Enlightenment s
most prolific writers was an

The Hostage Crisis
Iran hostage crisis
The Iran hostage crisis was a diplomatic crisis between Iran and the United States. Fifty two US
citizens were held hostage for 444 days from November 4, 1979 to January 20, 1981, after a group of
Islamic students and militants took over the Embassy of the United States in support of the Iranian
Revolution. Sixty six Americans were taken captive when Iranian militants seized the U.S. Embassy in
Tehran on November 4, 1979, including three who were at the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Six more
Americans escaped and of the 66 who were taken hostage, 13 were released on November 19 and 20,

would use police to expel the Islamist students as they had the last occupiers in February. The

The And The Filipino Migrant Workers
The Asian Americans of No No Boy and America Is in the Heart faced faced great discrimination, but
both groups internalized the hatred and fear in different ways. Carlos Bulosan and the Filipino migrant
workers dealt with a lack of governmental support in all sectors of civilized American life including
fair pay, housing, and protection. The Japanese American no no boys were similarly undermined by
whites, but also by Japanese Americans a community they were originally a part of. The no no boys

The exploitation and passivity by whites over the subjects of workers and human rights was blanketed
over all Filipino workers who immigrated to America for work. The cannery workers sold to work in
Alaska had severely garnished wages and poor housing that instilled a mentality of anger towards the
factory owners and bosses, enough to spark the protests for Filipino trade unions. All with the same
goal of becoming self sufficient, socially recognized Americans, the Filipinos had the ability to band
together in their struggle for freedom and self worth. Bulosan s dream of America was one of
freedom; every man that shared Bulosan s notion of America was able to take part in a movement to
overcome their oppressor. Bulosan attempted to gather Filipino workers support in his newsletter
process, and the underground group of activists including Pasquale and Jose acted as leaders for the
Filipinos unionization. Any success that Bulosan s newsletter campaign had can be attributed to the
mutual understanding of the Filipino American s grapple with identity. Bulosan s character
specifically had an attainable goal that drove his actions: It was this small yet vast heart of mine that
had kept me steering toward the stars, (314). All involved in Bulosan s newsletter were driven together
towards a goal of education and unification of the Filipino workers the workers themselves needed
little convincing to realize that they re strife was conquerable. Their

Criticism Of Praise Praise
Praise is an action that parents, teachers, and adults overly use when they desire an action from
students and children. Most of the time, adults say phrases such as Good Job or Fantastic to boost the
moral of students or children. But praise doesn t always lead to positive growth of an individual in the
long run. There is, however, a stronger alternative to praise that many 21st century Western societies
haven t quite accepted. This is known as criticism. We see criticism everywhere in our daily lives;
from the workplace, to sporting events and competitions, and even in schools across America. It s a lot
stronger than praise because it provides students with a basis of comparison, and truth and honesty.
Therefore, criticism has a better long term effect on feedback and growth and should be balanced with
praise because it allows students to learn from previous mistakes or issues, forcing them to make a
positive change about themselves that could potentially help in the future. There are many problems
that appear with the use of general praise on its own. For one, praise feeds into the ego of a student,
forcing them into a lazy mindset from the overflow of approval. Carol Dweck, a theorist of human
motivation, believes that praising traits feed the belief that talent is fixed, which makes kids less
willing to take on new challenges that might expose them as less naturally able (Kamenetz). With
praise, the child will be less determined to take risks and complete

Causes Of The Jewish Revolution Of 1848
One of the key factors of the Revolution was the rise of nationalism in the respective crown lands. The
various ethnic groups of the Habsburg Empire for national recognition. The Jews on the other hand
sought the repeal of discriminatory taxes and legislation. They championed natural not national rights.
Secondly the new middle class worked under harsh conditions for little pay. They protested against
new technologies such as machines, at the same time, they lacked an cohesive agenda. Marx would
later attribute this to their lack of class conciseness in the Communist Manifesto. It should be noted
that most of these workers were reeling against Jewish industrial leaders, so it is safe to say that the

Though the Fundamental Laws extended Religious Freedoms, it also worked to fully alienate the
Jewish people from Galician politics. One of the requirements of holding office, was to fall under a
nationally recognized language. This was calculated in the new census procedures, in which citizens
had to list both their language and associated nationality. The Census did not consider Jewish or
Yiddish as legitimate responses, thus further alienating the Jewish population. These new regulations
created a Polish majority in the Diet, under which both the Jews and Rutherians had limited suffrage.
It soon became evident to some members of the Jewish elite, that political consciousness was essential
to gaining freedom. In 1868, the first hint of a Jewish Nationalism movement appeared with the
creation of Shomer Israel in Lemberg. Though originally this was not a politically active group it
would later push for widespread Jewish

Devaluation of the Feminine
Devaluation of the Feminine
The devaluation of women is built into the culture all through industry and popular culture. When a
baby is born he/she is like a blank slate to be written on by his/her surroundings, including family and
society. For example, I am a Christian, however I was not born a Christian, going to Church and being
taught about the Bible by my parents and teachers brought me to identify myself as a Christian. There
are certain gender roles that are set up in societies that limit males and females to certain behaviors
they are supposed to portray. The media in many cultures, particularly American culture, continues
make the devaluation of females more socially acceptable .

Women are put on display as sexual spectacles. An example of a woman who was put on display for
public entertainment is Saarjite Baartman, commonly known as Hottentot Venus. She was a South
African woman whose body was exhibited at circuses, museums, and zoos. The spectacle of Baartman
s body continued even after her death at the age of 26. Pseudo scientists interested in investigating in
primitive sexuality , dissected and cast her genitals (and buttocks) in wax. They concluded that her
oversized genitals were physical proof of African Women s primitive sexual appetite (Thompson).
This is an example of the way a woman s body was used to make a profit, similar to the way the
women in the videos are exploited for ratings. As a black woman, I have begun to pick up the common
theme that Kilbourne pointed out; black females are often depicted as animalistic, purely sexual, and
non human.
In movies, many women are given roles that require them to be nude for sex scenes. If they are not
interested, either they are rejected for the role, even if they are very good actresses, or they are offered
more money until they agree to do the scene(s). Only the most beautiful actresses with the most
perfect bodies are asked to do nude scenes. If the actress that gets the role does not have a fit body,
they are given a body double that does have an ideal body. Therefore, actresses that are trying to

Elizabeth Bennet Pride And Prejudice Essay
Elizabeth Bennet stands for the prejudice in the title and Mr. Darcy stands for the pride. This seems to
be correct; Elizabeth is quick to make judgments and is very stubborn as she judges Mr. Darcy too
quickly and with too little information by accepting Wickham s words without judgment and therefore
believes nothing Darcy says is positive about his feelings towards her. Mr. Darcy acts as if he were
superior to the people in Hertfordshire. Mr. Darcy was overly proud, underrating the ladies at the
Meriton ball. Mr. Bingley asks Mr. Darcy to dance, but he answers: At such an assembly as this it
would be insupportable. Your sisters are engaged, and there is not another woman in the room whom it

The Circular Plot In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
The Circular Plot in Of Mice and Men
The author, John Steinbeck, utilizes a circular plot structure in his novel, Of Mice and Men, to show
how prejudice and the impossibility of wishful desires will always be prevalent in society. He
integrates multiple examples through the characters of this story; each individual representing a role in
society. As Lennie and George travel from ranch to ranch, their dreams are challenged and Lennie is
one of many who faces discrimination.
To commence, repetition is used to introduce how Lennie has always been discriminated against due
to his mental disability. For example, as they arrived on the new ranch, Lennie claims George said he
was his cousin to the boss they had met. Conversely, George retorts that what he said was a lie,
declaring that if he was a relative of [Lennie], [he d] shoot [himself] (Steinbeck 24). This illustrates
how Lennie is often ridiculed for his condition, George concealing it to avoid losing their opportunity
of receiving the Job on the ranch. This moment is one of many situations George has mistreated
Lennie to some extent. Further evidence is when George explains to Slim what had discouraged him
from mocking Lennie. He confesses to Slim that he played jokes on Lennie because it made him
appear smart alongside of him, only stopping when he orders Lennie to jump in the lake. Lennie
couldn t swim a stroke and he was so nice to [George] for [pulling] him out of the water in time to

B-Complex Vitamin Group Lab Report
The B complex vitamin group is made up of a family of eight vitamins: thiamine (vitamin B1),
riboflavin (vitamin B2), niacin (vitamin B3), pyroxidine
(vitamin B6), folate (folic acid, vitamin B9), cobalamin
(vitamin B12), biotin and pantothenic acid (vitamin
B5). Although each of these has its own independent function, they work in synergy in many different
ways in the body, acting as co enzymes to help the body obtain energy from food, for example, or
supporting red blood cell formation.
This vital group of nutrients are water soluble, meaning that they dissolve in water. This results in
poor storage in the body and therefore a need to obtain a regular supply from our diet or supplement.
The water soluble status of B vitamins also means that they are easily destroyed or washed out during
food storage or preparation. Proper storage and preparation of food can minimise vitamin loss so you
should always refrigerate fresh produce, keep milk and grains away from strong light, and use cooking
water from vegetables to prepare soups.
Here is a closer look at each one....
THIAMIN (vitamin B1)
WHAT DOES IT DO? This useful vitamin helps to release energy from food, promotes muscle
function (especially in the heart), red blood cell and amino acid production, looks after the
maintenance of the nervous system and supports digestion.
WHERE IS IT FOUND? In whole grains, oats, red meat, seafood, nuts, pulses and yeast.
WHAT IF WE DON T GET ENOUGH? A deficiency in beneficial bacteria can reduce the body s own
production of B vitamins, while medication and alcohol consumption can both increase the demand
and excretion of thiamin. Thiamin is easily lost through food processing.
NATURAL HEALTH 73 natural EAT
In the second part of a new series looking at key vitamins and minerals, nutritional therapist
Henrietta Norton explores the importance of the B vitamin group
RIBOFLAVIN (vitamin B2)
WHAT DOES IT DO? Like thiamin, this helps to release energy from food, but it also supports mucus
membranes (including those in the eye), assists in neurological health, promotes skin and hair strength
(as it acts as an antioxidant) and supports the immune system and the production of antibodies.
WHERE IS IT FOUND? In wholegrains, eggs, dairy

This article addressed a study of a cognitive behavioral course to increase a sense of coherence (SOC)
and decrease perceived stress (PS). Low SOC and high PS are factors that lead to burnout and low job
satisfaction. They can also contribute to low quality of care and productivity. Therefore, it is expected
that if a nurse has high SOC and low PS, the nurse will have higher productivity and will be better at
managing stress. The study consisted of 36 nurses that had five or more years of experience and had
worked both as a bedside nurse and in an administrative role. They were divided into intervention and
control groups and all participants took surveys at the beginning of week one and the end of week 16
that included the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and the Profile of Mood States (POMS). The
intervention group participated in a cognitive behavioral (CB) interventions during three hour
seminars weekly for 16 weeks. The seminar topics addressed issues to modify negative thinking and
improve problem solving skills. They also learned relaxation skills that included breathing techniques
and progressive muscle training. Bias was avoided by having similar socio demographic
characteristics among the participants. The chi square test, t tests, and univariate analysis of
covariance were used to test significance of the study. The results revealed a significant decrease in PS

The togetherness among the group and the individual s performance dependably assume a key part in
choosing the group s potential and their capability to meet the targets (Nicky Hayes, 2002). On the
next day when we performing a task I experienced an issue. One of our team members who was going
to initiate the task had not given enough preparation. This transformed into a misunderstanding around
ourselves which implied that we couldn t complete the task in the given time. At that point I
understood the need of initiative in our group. Leadership is the nature of planning togetherness
among the people to attain a common objective (Richard, W. 2008). The leader might have any formal
power yet ought to demonstrate the capability to make the whole group in including mutual
cooperation, conduct, practicality, qualities, and at last enhancing the potential of the individuals of

Essay on Dr. Faustus Vs. Dorian Gray
Deals With the Devil
In the books The Picture of Dorian Gray and Dr. Faustus, both protagonists are lured into the world of
evil, but by different forces. Dorian Gray and Dr. Faustus both sell their souls to the devil. However,
Dorian Gray deals with the devil unknowingly, and Dr. Faustus conjures the devil. After Dorian sells
his soul, he becomes an immoral criminal, and even resorts to murder. After Dr. Faustus sells his soul,
he lives frivolously and entertains himself through practical jokes. So who is more evil? An innocent
young man corrupted by the ideas of another? Or, a man who is bored with the world, and seeking
excitement calls upon the devil? Dorian Gray is clearly more evil, because even ... Show more content

Furthermore, Faustus never would have been forced to have his meeting with the devil, if it hadn t
been for that book. The devil doesn t come because the spell works, but because he knows he has
something to gain if he answers the call. Similarly, Dorian has a little yellow book that Lord Henry
gave him. Dorian is so amazed with this book; he has copies made in nine different colors. Although
the content of the book remains unknown, it is evident it had a profound effect on Dorian. These
books were the first in the series of written documents that would eventually change the two men
forever and leave both damned.
Letters play an important role in the novel and the play. Both Dorian and Dr. Faustus write letters that
dramatically alter their lives. Dorian writes many letters that contain secrets. He writes letters asking
for forgiveness, like his letter to Sibyl. He also writes letters to blackmail people like Alan Campbell.
With every letter he writes, Dorian achieves a new level of wickedness. Dr. Faustus writes one letter
that changes his life forever. This letter guarantees his soul to Lucifer. Dorian s writes his letters
intentionally to destroy other people s lives or hurt them. Dr. Faustus letters destroy his own life.

Essay On William Lyon Mackenzie King
William Lyon Mackenzie King
Help those who cannot help themselves was William Lyon Mackenzie King s life motto as a child.
William Lyon Mackenzie, better known as Mackenzie King was the 10th Prime Minister of Canada.
Mackenzie was the leader of the liberal party and is currently Canada s longest serving Prime Minister
at 22 years. In this essay I will argue why I believe Mackenzie King should be the next Prime Minister
of Canada. I believe William Lyon Mackenzie King should be the next Prime Minister of Canada due
to his lengthy leadership experiences, his high degree of intelligence and how he was able to define
Canadian Independence.
The first reason I believe William Lyon Mackenzie King should be the next Prime Minister of Canada
is because of his high degree of intelligence. Mackenzie King was born in Kitchener, Ontario and was
raised up in a family of politics. Mackenzie s grandfather was was the first mayor of Toronto and had
led the Upper Canadian Rebellions. William Lyon Mackenzie King has earned five degrees
throughout his life, three of which are from the University of Toronto. After he processed to the

Niche Blog Essay
How to Start your Multi Niche Blog.
In Blogging, once we are going for a specific topic then instead of using the word Topic we can use
the word Niche. Many Pro bloggers are using the word niche instead of the word issue. When I was a
beginner in the field of SEO as well as blogging, I wondered what the niche is a huge thing and as like
pro bloggers used the word. Although now, Let me explain to you what niche is? A Niche can be
described as when we have created a blog only on a single topic like I am running my blog and it is
almost about SEO and internet marketing only, so the niche of Blog is SEO and internet marketing
and if someone is running a blog about development, then they have different Niche. A niche can be

So it s recommended to make the team and work accordingly, this will make things easier and
efficient. You can also go for hiring content writers but make sure you don t compromise with the
quality of your articles. 4. SEO should be Everywhere Niche Doesn t Matter
One more point that can lead to a complete failure of your multi niche blog is SEO optimization. It has
been observed on many such blogs that SEO is not being followed. Such blogs devoid of SEO
optimized contents cannot live for long, an update can kill them totally and if you feel updates don t
come much often, check out Mozcast yourself.
Be very sure to post good optimized contents with proper use of Heading tags, image attributes,
permalink, keyword usage and all those points that come under On Page SEO. In fact, better SEO can
help you get good rankings and more importantly you can stick onto your rankings which many blogs
fail to. 5. Platform WordPress Recommended
If I am to answer this question, I will straight away point to WordPress. This doesn t mean that blogger
is sick, or blogger cannot be used, but the reason behind it is the control you get. Multi niche blogs
have many categories and different types of posts (including movie reviews), and all this can be done
effectively with WordPress. Multiple authors can be managed well according to roles as well in WP.
Moreover you can choose from a wide variety of customizable themes that you cannot get on blogger

Characteristics Of New England Colonies
When established, the British colonies had three divisions which are New England, Middle, and the
Southern. Each of these geographic regions had some developments which were unique and different
from other sectors. Some of the stark differences were because of geopolitical, religious, economic,
and social factors. Although all regions were marked by tremendous growth, they experienced
differences in their management style and trading pact. The New England Colonies included the
colonies of Connecticut, Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, Massachusetts, and
Province of New Hampshire. The colonies were where the Englishmen settled and lived. Their
economy, religion, and politics grew gradually due to various factors which include the community
setting where lands were separated into small portions. The settlers of the New England traded sugar
and molasses with other parts of the world. Also, this colony practiced subsistence farming where they
produced enough food for their family need. Before farming, these colonies had small scale factories
and built ships to improve their economy. They were Puritans. They formed this religion after freeing
from the Church of England. The colony also had communities that lived close to each other and
watched out on their fellows. As a result, the Puritans lived longer and able to maintain their
traditions. Politically, the colonies had the concept of self government through the elections and the
appointments. The Middle

Greek Informative Speech
Hi everybody, My name is Mary and I am going to be your docent for the day. Today we are going to
be learning about two different kinds of ancient artwork. I am going to be showing you examples from
ancient Egyptian art and ancient Greek art. First off we are going to learn about ancient Greek art. The
Greeks mastered the idea of sculpture, in earlier times the sculptures looked fake but by the classical
period they started looking more natural with realistic looking faces. The Greeks also liked to make
pottery out of stone and clay, they usually would have mythological or religious scenes on them and
grew more realistic over time. The first ancient Greek art that we will be learning about today is the
Winged Victory of Samothrace. It was created around 220 185 BC made from parian and rhodian
marble. On April 15, 1863 workers were excavating and uncovered parts of a statue. They then sent it
to the Louvre, where it is currently on display. You can t tell from the picture, but can you believe that
this statue is over 18 feet tall!! It has been suggested that she was once holding something in her right
hand, such as a trumpet, wreath, or a fillet. The base of the sculpture is made up of 23 blocks of
marble. The next piece of art that we will be learning about is the Laocoon and his Sons. This

Silver Chromate Lab Report
This experiment was performed to observe the formation of silver chromate from a reaction between
silver nitrate and potassium chromate. In this double displacement reaction, the cations and anions of
the two reactants swapped and produced silver chromate and potassium chromate. An indication of a
reaction occurring between the silver nitrate and potassium chromate was the production of a red solid
from the yellow potassium chromate and the clear silver nitrate. Potassium nitrate has its uses in
applications such as fertilizers and food preservation while the other product of this reaction, silver

Modeling Suburban And Rural Residential Development Beyond...
Modeling Suburban and Rural Residential Development beyond the Urban Fringe The authors David
A. Newburn and Peter Berck looked at how land use regulations differentially influenced suburban
versus rural residential development in exurban areas. Exurban areas are defined as an area that
extends beyond the built up urban and contiguously developed suburban areas, but not into the true
hinterlands beyond the commuting range of the city centers and their edge cities (Nelson and Sanchez
1997). The journal looks at a county in California that enacted urban growth boundary regulations
(UGB) that placed limitations on sewer and water extensions as well as minimum lot size restrictions
(zoned maximum residential density). To determine how the restrictions affected the development
densities the county was broken up into four zones based on proximity to sewer and water. The
individual zones were then divided farther into parcel attributes and proximity to major roads and
centers. Newburn and Berck chose the Random Parameter Logit Model (RPL) to arrive at their
conclusions. Methodology Newburn and Berck obtained land parcel records from the local county
office. The records were from 1993 and showed lot size, date of last subdivision, number of single
family units and year built. The data was then imputed over a base map from 2001 using GIS
software. This allowed the researchers to easily see what had been developed and at what densities.
The densities were broken down into five

Devil is a biography of the band, Van Halen, from their start as a band with a record label up until the
departure of David Lee Roth, their frontman, in 1985. So far, the book has looked into their start as a
backyard party band in Pasadena, California, with Eddie Van Halen, a master on guitar, his older
brother, Alex Van Halen, the drummer who was the backbone of Eddie s riffs, Michael Anthony, the
bassist who brought a jazzy tone to their songs, and David Lee Roth, the frontman who brought the

Eddie had some an impetus that drove him to do better. Eddie was in love with his guitar. Originally
he had bought a drum set while his brother, Alex, bought an electric guitar. Over a summer when
Eddie was delivering newspapers Alex would play his drum set. Eventually, Alex got really good so
he and Eddie swapped instruments. After that, it seemed as if there was never a moment where Eddie
wasn t without his guitar. One of his favorite things to do for hours on end was noodle , which was a
term he used for playing around and making new sounds. One guitar player that really inspired Eddie
was Tony Lommi of Black Sabbath. Van Halen toured England for the first time opening for Black
Sabbath. It wasn t just talent and originality that separated Tony from his heavy metal and hard rock
brethren; it was the backstory. (Monk 111). When Tony was only 17 years old, he lost the tips of both
his ring and middle fingers on his right hand in an industrial accident. Usually, this would be no big
deal because most guitar players only strum with their right hands, but Tony was a left handed guitar
player, so he fretted with his right and strummed with his left. This really inspired Eddie especially
after Tony removed his prosthetics to show him the missing tips. Most people would usually give up
and abandon their dreams if something like that ever were to happen to them. Eddie in many ways will

Apartheid Paragraph
Apartheid were the laws passed in South Africa that separated whites and blacks and gave whites
more control, while robbing blacks of their rights. Apartheid took place from 1948 1990, and has been
one of the most harsh and systematic violations of human rights. Unfair living conditions, tragic
events, and courageous people contributed to the end of apartheid in South Africa. The living
conditions in South Africa were very cruel during apartheid, and motivated people to end it. The
Doctor/population shows how the living conditions were better for the Afrikaners (whites) than the
Bantu (blacks). The blacks only had 1 doctor for every 44,000 people while the whites had 1 doctor
for every 400 (6). This means the whites could be treated faster and better since the doctors didn t
need to worry about so many people. The care the doctors could give would to their patients also was
better for the white people because they had more money to receive better medications. The land
allocation also proved how there were unfair living conditions towards the blacks. The Afrikaners had
better living conditions with the land accolation because they had 87% of the land with only 4.5
million people, while the Bantu had 13% of the land with 19 million people (6). This means that the
white s neighborhoods were less crowded than the blacks who had to cram into small huts. Also,
germs would spread faster in Bantu neighborhoods than Afrikaners because of how spread out or
crammed they were.

Questions On Mixed Metal Oxides
2.11.3 Mixed metal oxides
Despite the advantages of individual metal oxides, their CLC performance decreased with the increase
of cycles due to the harsh CLC conditions. Therefore, the pure phase of mixed metal oxides and its
supported form were prepared from the precursors and the selected support to overcome the
limitations of individual metal oxides. The characteristics of individual metal oxides can be retained or
even enhanced by mixing of appropriate individual oxides for CLC application in terms of multi cycle
CLC performance (cost, activity, stability, mechanical strength, reduction in carbon deposition, etc.).
The mixed oxide of Fe and Mn has been developed in our lab as a possible candidate for CLC. Fe Mn
mixed oxide possesses the promise as oxygen carrier for the CLC applications due to availability of
low cost minerals precursors, relatively high OCC, stability and environmentally benign nature.
Mungse et al. reported the pure phase of iron manganese oxides (FeMnO3 and Fe3Mn3O8) that
exhibit CLOU property. It was found that Fe3Mn3O8 was reduced into FeMnO3 at higher
temperatures. Fe3O4 and MnO were observed as reduced products after methane combustion reaction
of FeMnO3 [25]. Nickel manganese oxides were also prepared for methane conversion [50].
CoO NiO oxides were prepared as mixed oxide based oxygen carrier, however, the reaction rate was
lower than that of its individual oxides due to the formation of a solid solution of NiCoO2. However,

The Hobbit, Or There And Back Again Essay
The Hobbit, or There and Back Again, is a high fantasy novel written by JRR Tolkien and published in
the year 1937. Spanning a proper 300 pages it contains an adventure of grand proportions; detailing
the exploits of one Bilbo Baggins and his attempts in aiding a band of 13 dwarves to reclaim a lost

adult like themes and motifs such as conflict between different races and the corrupting factor of
wealth. Tolkien has been accredited as the father of modern high fantasy for his The Lord of the Rings
trilogy of which The Hobbit is a prequel.
Furthermore it is crucial to know of Joseph Campbell and his ideas of the monomyth. The late Joseph

contemporary comparative mythology and comparative religion. Campbell s work is extensive and
intersects many attributes of the human experience. It is distinctly Campbell s efforts in generating his
monomyth concept which interest many today. The monomyth concept recognizes all myth based
works as being a ploy on one form or original story. This is due to common patterns incorporated in a
vast majority of myth based works inattentive of time and place of origin. This original story
incorporates a hero s call to adventure, his or hers crossing of a threshold, their dealings within a
climax and or final battle followed by their return.

Nancy Wexler Research Paper
A very important piece of who we are as humans are genetics. Without genes, we wouldn t have the
same eye color, hair color, nose size, mouth size, freckles, dimples, and many other physical
appearances. Not only would we not have the same physical appearances, our brains would be
different. Your brain may have diseases that it does not have now. The study of genetics has come a
very long way since it was first introduced. Nancy Wexler was an enormous contribute to the study of
genetics through personal experiences, the Hereditary Disease Foundation, and her journey in
Venezuela. Nancy Wexler was born July 19, 1945 in Washington, DC. Wexler was planning on getting
a PhD in clinical psychology, until a devastating thing happened to her mother. Nancy s mother,
Leonore Wexler, was on her way to a jury duty when she came ... Show more content on

Gender Bias In The United States
Throughout the history of the United States, gender bias has been and still is an immense concern.
Women have been at the forefront of such prejudice. For several centuries, women have battled for
equity in their everyday lives, academically, and professionally. The push for justice has been a slow
process, with incremental gains. Initially, educational experiences for women were limited to a
curriculum that would support and/or reinforce the ideas that women were less superior to males.
Women were identified as the homemakers and their essential duties only entailed domestic skills.
There were several ideas that contributed to the connotation of gender bias of women. Notions such as
educated women were dangerous to society, their mental and physical well being were at risk if
subjected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The differences in the interaction between teachers and their male and female students are vastly
different. Teachers have a tendency to be ignorant of their contribution to the continual trouble of
obtaining gender equity. A teacher should be studying their students, just as must as a student is
required to learn from teachers lessons. Constant awareness of classroom interactions is fundamental
to develop and model equity that is beneficial to supporting each student s ability to be successful. In
more recent years, our educational system has faced challenges that are leading our country back into
segregation. Single sex education has resurfaced; jeopardizing the gains our ancestors fought so hard
for. A few people believe that the biological make up between genders is significantly different, that
having coeducational classes is doing more harm than good. Conversely, there is no proven study that
supports these claims; however studies have displayed the exact opposite. Separating genders within
the educational system will only perpetuate and magnify

My Favorite Hobby
I have always been a visual learner. That is why I am great at Math: Teachers usually work with the
student, writing the problems on the board and solving them. It is the opposite for English: English
teachers do not give examples of how to write or put ideas together. Watching someone do something
is easier for me. That is how I learned to cook at such a young age.
As a child, my parents never physically taught me how to cook. I would watch my Mom and Dad
cook dishes that are native to them. I would watch my Dad make Adobo, filling the air with a lovely
smell of salt and vinegar. I would watch my Mom make Pozole, moving in the kitchen like Taz, never
stopping to rest. I would watch what ingredients they use; noticing how the ingredients, when mixed
with others, created a new masterpiece.
I learned to cook Mexican and Filipino foods by observing my parents. But I know how to cook more
than just Mexican and Filipino foods. I know how to cook Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese,
Vietnamese, Spanish, American, and much more. I learned to cook these food types by watching the
Food Network channel. Instead of being a normal child, watching cartoons when they got home and
on the weekends, I would watch the Food Network, taking mental notes of what they were cooking
and the techniques they used, not realizing that I was learning.
When I first started cooking, I had trouble. I burnt myself. I burnt the food. I dropped the food. I did
not know what tools to use. It was a total mess;

Commentary On Speak By Laurie Halse Anderson
1. Teen activist and 2014 Nobel Peace prize winner Malala Yousafzai said, I raise up my voice not so
that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard . For whom have you raised your
voice? One of the most compelling books I read in my life was called Speak by Laurie Halse
Anderson. It is a story about a young high school girl who was raped by the quarterback of her high
school s football team one night at a party. This immediate damage of this traumatic event was her
ability to speak out about what happened to her that dark night. As an eighth grader, I was very
frustrated at the fact that this young girl had so many opportunities to bring justice to her rape, but
never did all because she was still suffering from her experience. By the end of the book, she finally
mustered up the courage to say something, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe I didn t understand her struggle simply because I had nothing to speak out about, but this
would soon change by the time I got to high school. It was not until my ninth grade that I realized I
was not a heterosexual male. It would take another two and a half yearsfor me to reveal my sexuality
to another person. While I am not comparing rape to homosexuality, I am stating I understand the
angst and self hate that the main character of Anderson s book felt. Growing up, I was told being gay
was a one way ticket to Hell and how since God hates faggots, so should I. When discriminatory
remarks like these were made around me, something inside of me shrunk and I instantly became
silent, almost like they were speaking about me. Feelings like these arose years before I came to
understand I was gay, but never would I had thought that certain people, who I

Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill Analysis
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill the story of a Lioness
During the dawn of the new century, a young black woman taps on her microphone, surrounded by
everything from the romantic twang of a harp to the rustic beat of the timpani drum. Her hair twisted
in locks, envelopes her face the studio lights streaming on her face make her look like a lion,
courageous and proud of herself, her ideals and her vision. This isn t even the beginning. Lauryn Hill s
story starts in a township named after the Prince of Orange, in New Jersey where she grew up
listening to Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, and Gladys Knight. As a freshman in
high school Hill (now going by L. Boogie) started Tranzlator Crew with Pras Michel. Later, Wyclef
Jean replaced one of their original female singers and they renamed their band to the Fugees (inspired
by the word refugee an offensive term for Haitian Americans) and focused mostly on genre bending in
reggae, rock and soul.
During the early Fugees days Jean and Hill started dating. However, there was always a healthy
competition between Jean and Hill, with both trying to outdo the other vocally and professionally.
Ultimately, they continued their relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

concerned about credit because that s what eluded her from past success [with the Fugees]. Eventually,

3.1 Obama s 2008 Project Houdini.
In 2008, the Obama campaign unveiled a revolutionary new program called Houdini that would
magically make the names of those who had already voted disappear from the GOTV lists. The
program which was only reserved for precincts that the Obama campaign deemed most crucial was
surprisingly low tech [3]. There would be a poll watcher and poll reporter assigned to each targeted
precinct. The poll

Dystopian Differences In The Hunger Games And The Hunger...
Dystopian films and books have become popular over the past few years. These tend to reflect the way
in which society could possibly soon turn if expecting extremes. Dystopian literature and media also
tend to have utopian elements as well. While the societies in these works are strict and controlling,
they do offer something that our society could possibly benefit from. Divergent has this element. The
population is broken up into five factions that represent the different types of people in society and
separate those who would fight easily due to their personal morals. The Hunger Games on the other
hand (when modern society crumbled) they punished their citizens for fighting the government. While
yes there was a chance for riches in the Hunger Games, it took risking your life to get it. In addition, if
one did win the Hunger Games they would have an extremely easy life due to riches and a free luxury
house. Divergent does not have this part, as its utopian aspect is the fact different ideals are separated
from each other. Utopian literature is a reflection that is a perceived direction society may go. In these
stories, mirrors are a device used to symbolically state the universe of the film is a reflection not a
reality. The Hunger Games series is based of the book trilogy of the same name. In this series, the
Hunger Games are a pageant based on a punishment for a rebellion that occurred approximately 100
years before. In this pageant, two tributes are chosen per district

Physical And Psychological Effects Of War In The Sniper By...
War is something that can change the very principles of a person, it can change a person and leave
multiple effects that can last for their entire life. The sniper is fighting in a civil war where friends and
family can turn into enemies at a moment s notice. The fight is between the Republicans and the Free
Staters, the protagonist is a sniper for the Republicans. Throughout the story, we go into the state of
mind of the main character and learn some ramifications that he gained in the war. The text, The
Sniper by Liam O Flaherty shows us the physical and psychological results of war, that happens to
people.
The easiest effect that is found throughout the text would be the physical effects, that happens all the
time. Midway through the text without a moment s notice he was perfectly fine and then out of
nowhere he gets shot. We find out about his injury from the quote from the story, His forearm was
dead. I m hit, he muttered. He just finished taking out the informant and the guy in the turret, not even
a minute passed and the sniper gets shot causing an injury that might never fully heal. Hunger is an
important thing that gets ignored in war and people starve for hours not being able to eat food. In the
second paragraph, the author pointed that out in these two sentences, He was eating a sandwich
hungrily. He had eaten nothing since morning. The sniper wasn t able to eat since the morning he
would definitely be starving at that point of time. To compensate

Motivation Report On Industrial And Organizational Psychology

Industrial/Organizational Psychology

25 November 2014
Motivation in Industrial/Organizational Psychology
Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology is devoted to the study of employee behavior in the
workplace and understanding the issues facing organizations and employees in today s complex and
ever changing environment. Motivation refers to the set of forces that influence people to choose
various behaviors among several alternatives available to them. An organization depends on the ability
of management to provide a positive, fostering and motivating environment for its employees in order
to increase profits, productivity and lower turnover rates of its employees. The purpose of this paper is
to discuss and compare six academic journal articles and explore the behavior, job, and need based
theories of motivation that can aid management in motivating and understanding their employees.
Finding that delicate balance to can sometimes be elusive so effectively learning how to motivate by
understanding, controlling and influencing factors to manipulate behavior and choices that are
available to employees can produce the desired outcome.
Behavior based motivation such as Equity Theory, Expectancy Theory and Reinforcement Theories
are built on the premise that employee behavior is directly linked to the consequences of their actions.
Equity theory tries to define the measurement and the satisfaction relationship of

The Importance And Types Of Shallow Gas Investigations
6.4.3.5 SHALLOW GAS EXPRESSIONS Shallow gas accumulations in the study area are observed
as high amplitude anomalies most often linked with salt diapir structures often associated with deep
seated halokinesis induced faults in the Norwegian Danish basin (Figure 23).The Siri nor survey is a
zero phased segy normal polarity data, and the shallow gas accumulations appear as a decrease in
acoustic impedance represented as the opposite of the seabed as a reverse polarity since the presence
of hydrocarbons in between the pore space of sediments give rise to an acoustic impedance contrast,
hence producing amplitude anomalies such as bright spots, polarity reversal and flat spots (Hilterman,
2001; Bacon et al., 2007, Brown, 2011). Seismic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

indication of a vertical migration of hydrocarbons along faults reaching the SGAA accumulation that
may indicate migration pathways for fluids above a salt diapir C. The SGAA accumulation appears
directly related with the underlying salt diapir C and is seen to be segmented in places by faults
induced by the growth of the diapir. These faults compartmentalized the accumulations and can lead to
development risk during production. Figure 26: Shallow gas trapped above the salt diapir C and its

  • 2. Slavery And The Making Of American Capitalism Jose Arciga Robert Dean History 110 11.10.15 Essay Prompt The Half Has Never Been Told :Slavery and the making of American Capitalism Back when America was being shaped, tobacco was the main slave produced trade in the colonies. Plantations all across the south had a majority of the slaves from Africa brought here on ships. Forced to work for their slave owners. Tobacco wasn t the only booming business. Cotton soon came into the picture, the north was a more industrial economy, while the south remained agricultural. The most important economic development in the mid 19th century was the shift from the upper south to lower south. The upper south relied on tobacco , it was very unstable , and the land was used. So the shift to cotton was a necessity. Slavery was huge in america, and it even lead to a civil war, it lasted a very long time, from 1619 1865. We still struggle with slavery today because we still struggle with its legacy. Without cotton the north would not have been able to industrialize, at least not as quickly because cotton textiles were one of the first industrially produced products and the most important commodity in world trade by the 19th century. Almost every plantation owner bought slaves. The south was so plowed into slaves there was little room for technological advances, like railroads, I think the south sucked at the civil war thing because of that reason. In short slavery dominated the south, shaping it both economically and culturally. It s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That sinking feeling of deep regret...for the garlic aioli drizzled atop the freshly sliced onions on your deluxe munster cheeseburger. Each interaction for the remainder of the day is permeated by an invisible cloud of humid dragon breath, potentially offending a client, or worse, cutting short a hot date. Here are five ways to determine the degree of lethality your breath is imposing on those poor souls who happen to wander within six feet of you. 1. The Wrist Test Perhaps the easiest method with lightning fast results is The Wrist Test. • 4. Legal Differences And The Legal Types Of A Business... Identify and describe the legal categories of a business organization contrasting tax related advantages and disadvantages. There are three main forms of business organizations that are commonly known globally; they include; Sole Proprietorship, Partnership as well as Corporation. Looking at the Sole proprietorship, it is conventionally known as a business run by one person who is also the owner. This means that the owner has 100% control over the business. This form of business organization is easy to establish since it needs very few legal requirements. There is also no need of having partners or shareholders and the taxes paid in this business organization is only on the income generated. That means that after paying the taxes, all remaining profits remains with the owner. Disadvantages of this structure include less share of expertise since the owner is the only partner. The owner also has unlimited liability for the debts and any malpractices which also includes bearing all maintenance costs (Beyer et al. 2010). For the partnership, it involves more than one player who is also involved in the business structure. The partners share all costs and profits after entering into an agreement that intends to share any commercial interests. The partners also contribute funds to start and operate the business as the starting capital. This means that there is a pool of experience and resources by the two and the partners share the taxes. The disadvantages of this form of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. My I Decided For A Teacher The day I decided that I wanted to be a teacher I pictured myself choosing my favorite books and having thoughtful discussions. I imagined my students would enjoy the many activities we completed and at the end of the unit they would take a test and we would move on to the next topic. I was unaware of what the field of education would actually entail. I soon learned that teaching was nothing like what I imagined. I didn t realize that my teachers made teaching a classroom full of student look easy because they used several techniques. They realized that they must take into account not only what they are teaching (content), but also whom they are teaching (individual students) (Corley, 2007). As I ve learned more about my field I have realized that teaching involves providing the best education to students based on their ability to learn. When you understand that this is what teaching is about, you try practices that will make your instruction stronger. Differentiation is one way to make sure that all learners gain the education they deserve. Learning Plan When planning any lesson, I always consult the standards to determine what students must know and be able to do. The standard for this lesson states, Students analyze, make inferences and draw conclusions about persuasive text and provide evidence from text to support their analysis. Students are expected to: evaluate the merits of an argument, action, or policy by analyzing the relationships (e.g., ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Criticism Of Cultural Relativism Cultural relativism is the theory where there is no objective truth in morality, and moral truths are determined by different cultures. The primary argument used to justify cultural relativism is the cultural differences argument, which claims different cultures have different moral practices and beliefs, therefore, there is no objective truth in morality (Newton). After reading James Rachels The Challenge of Cultural Relativism, I find his criticisms to be persuasive because the argument made for Cultural Relativism is not sound from a logical point of view. You cannot draw a conclusion about what is factual based on what people believe is factual. Rachels also points out that even though cultures do in fact disagree about moral values, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In our country, someone who likes to be helpful is considered a model citizen, whereas in his own country he would be considered abnormal (Benedict p.2). Benedict used this example.to argue that like behavior, morality is culturally determined and that what can be morally right for one society can be considered morally wrong for another (Newton, Evaluating Cultural Relativism). Where Ruth Benedict believed morality is relative, James Rachels disagrees. This is where I would have to agree with James Rachels criticisms regarding the Cultural Difference Argument. The premise argues that different cultures have different moral codes. The conclusion argues that there is no objective truth in morality and right and wrong are only matters of opinion, and opinions vary from culture to culture. Cultural relativists argue from facts about different cultural outlooks to the conclusion about the status of morality. Rachels uses the shape of the earth as an example. In some societies, people believe the Earth is flat. In others, people believe it is spherical. If using the Cultural Difference Argument, our premise would be that societies disagree about the shape of the earth. We would then conclude there is no fact of the matter about the shape of the earth (Rachels p.20 21). This is not a logical argument because belief does not instantly imply truth. • 8. Marilyn Monroe Emotional Issues One of the things a woman wants most in this world is for someone to relate and/or understand her. Ever since I can remember, I ve had that one person to look up to that I felt could relate to me. As long as I can remember, that person was Marilyn Monroe. At about the age of 5, I saw her face on the television screen and by about the age of 12 years old, I was researching all I could about her. The more I learned about her, the more my love grew for her and the more I knew she would understand me if she were here today. Marilyn Monroe was an iconic celebrity but also very relatable to the average woman who deals things such as tough emotional issues, harsh body image problems and having a hard time trusting people or building relationships. Everyone has issues that we deal with; we re only human, right? The emotional issues we deal with daily can be anger, sadness, depression, etc. Marilyn dealt with these emotions as much as anyone else, but there was a time she had said, I am not a victim of emotional conflicts. I am human . She understood that as a human being, we all have emotional problems, but it s how one deals with their emotions that matters. These emotional issues can stem from many different situations or moments in our life. Dealing with a bully in school, an abusive parent or whatever it may be, can cause these issues. Unfortunately, Marilyn had to deal with emotional issues stemming form the relationship with her mother. One of Marilyn s family members was quoted saying: Gladys didn t hug, kiss or smile, Marilyn s niece, Mona Rae Miracle, exclusively tells Closer. She was delusional, and she heard voices from electrical appliances. She was antisocial and unable to express any emotion, except anger . Marilyn s mother s inability to feel or express emotions was of no benefit to the growth of an impressionable girl such as Marilyn. Marilyn unfortunately paid dearly from this and grew up battling her emotions all of the time. So, knowing what we ve learned so far, there s no doubt that Marilyn Monroe dealt with the same kind of problems your average jane deals with. Emotional issues wouldn t be the only way for Marilyn to relate to us average Janes these days, because she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Enlightenment Attitudes Towards Religion Essay Enlightenment Attitudes Towards Religion Scientific and philosophical innovations during the 18th century brought about a new breed of thinkers. Their driving forces of rational and reason shifted the religious temperament of the elite from enthusiasts to intellectuals. They argued that there was no divine standard of morality, no afterlife to divert humanity from worldly concerns (The Western Experience, pg. 657). They were radicals who sought to displace the authority of religion. Driven by reason, enlightenment thinkers naturally opposed superstition and attempted to replace religious mysticism with philosophical standards and scientific formulations. Dennis Diderot echoes this sentiment in his encyclopedic definition of the term irreligious stating that morality is the universal law that the finger of God has engraved on all our hearts, and that consequently we should not confuse immortality and irreligion. Mortality can exist without religion; and religion, perhaps, even exits frequently with immortality (Course Pak, Chapter 2, pg. 157). Further Diderot sites the Fathers of a council of Toledo in his definition of intolerance where they state do no violence of any kind to people in order to lead them back to faith, for God is merciful or severe to whomever he chooses (Course Pak, Chapter 2, pg. 156). By siting the fathers, Diderot masterfully escapes censorship while fighting the churches belligerence with its own words. Catholic Habsurg emperor Joseph II championed the philosophy of tolerance in 1781 in the Edict of Toleration. The Edict granted Jews and Catholics the same religious and civil rights, this was the first time such an act was condoned by a Catholic Habsburg ruler. In addition it also tried to limit the power of the Catholic Church by ordering the dissolution of numerous monasteries which were useless and corrupt. (The Western Experience, pg. 660). While tolerance proved to be an important concept of the enlightenment, deism was indeed the primary religious doctrine. Voltaire, one of the Enlightenment s most prolific writers was an ... All with the same goal of becoming self sufficient, socially recognized Americans, the Filipinos had the ability to band together in their struggle for freedom and self worth. • 12. Criticism Of Praise Praise Praise is an action that parents, teachers, and adults overly use when they desire an action from students and children. Most of the time, adults say phrases such as Good Job or Fantastic to boost the moral of students or children. But praise doesn t always lead to positive growth of an individual in the long run. There is, however, a stronger alternative to praise that many 21st century Western societies haven t quite accepted. This is known as criticism. We see criticism everywhere in our daily lives; from the workplace, to sporting events and competitions, and even in schools across America. It s a lot stronger than praise because it provides students with a basis of comparison, and truth and honesty. Therefore, criticism has a better long term effect on feedback and growth and should be balanced with praise because it allows students to learn from previous mistakes or issues, forcing them to make a positive change about themselves that could potentially help in the future. There are many problems that appear with the use of general praise on its own. For one, praise feeds into the ego of a student, forcing them into a lazy mindset from the overflow of approval. Carol Dweck, a theorist of human motivation, believes that praising traits feed the belief that talent is fixed, which makes kids less willing to take on new challenges that might expose them as less naturally able (Kamenetz). With praise, the child will be less determined to take risks and complete ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They championed natural not national rights. Secondly the new middle class worked under harsh conditions for little pay. They protested against new technologies such as machines, at the same time, they lacked an cohesive agenda. The Census did not consider Jewish or Yiddish as legitimate responses, thus further alienating the Jewish population. These new regulations created a Polish majority in the Diet, under which both the Jews and Rutherians had limited suffrage. It soon became evident to some members of the Jewish elite, that political consciousness was essential to gaining freedom. She was a South African woman whose body was exhibited at circuses, museums, and zoos. The spectacle of Baartman s body continued even after her death at the age of 26. Pseudo scientists interested in investigating in primitive sexuality , dissected and cast her genitals (and buttocks) in wax. They concluded that her oversized genitals were physical proof of African Women s primitive sexual appetite (Thompson). This is an example of the way a woman s body was used to make a profit, similar to the way the women in the videos are exploited for ratings. As a black woman, I have begun to pick up the common theme that Kilbourne pointed out; black females are often depicted as animalistic, purely sexual, and non human. In movies, many women are given roles that require them to be nude for sex scenes. If they are not interested, either they are rejected for the role, even if they are very good actresses, or they are offered more money until they agree to do the scene(s). Only the most beautiful actresses with the most perfect bodies are asked to do nude scenes. If the actress that gets the role does not have a fit body, they are given a body double that does have an ideal body. Therefore, actresses that are trying to become ... • 17. Elizabeth Bennet Pride And Prejudice Essay Elizabeth Bennet stands for the prejudice in the title and Mr. Darcy stands for the pride. This seems to be correct; Elizabeth is quick to make judgments and is very stubborn as she judges Mr. Darcy too quickly and with too little information by accepting Wickham s words without judgment and therefore believes nothing Darcy says is positive about his feelings towards her. Mr. Darcy acts as if he were superior to the people in Hertfordshire. Mr. Darcy was overly proud, underrating the ladies at the Meriton ball. Mr. Bingley asks Mr. Darcy to dance, but he answers: At such an assembly as this it would be insupportable. • 18. The Circular Plot In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men The Circular Plot in Of Mice and Men The author, John Steinbeck, utilizes a circular plot structure in his novel, Of Mice and Men, to show how prejudice and the impossibility of wishful desires will always be prevalent in society. He integrates multiple examples through the characters of this story; each individual representing a role in society. As Lennie and George travel from ranch to ranch, their dreams are challenged and Lennie is one of many who faces discrimination. To commence, repetition is used to introduce how Lennie has always been discriminated against due to his mental disability. For example, as they arrived on the new ranch, Lennie claims George said he was his cousin to the boss they had met. Conversely, George retorts that what he said was a lie, declaring that if he was a relative of [Lennie], [he d] shoot [himself] (Steinbeck 24). This illustrates how Lennie is often ridiculed for his condition, George concealing it to avoid losing their opportunity of receiving the Job on the ranch. This moment is one of many situations George has mistreated Lennie to some extent. Further evidence is when George explains to Slim what had discouraged him from mocking Lennie. He confesses to Slim that he played jokes on Lennie because it made him appear smart alongside of him, only stopping when he orders Lennie to jump in the lake. Lennie couldn t swim a stroke and he was so nice to [George] for [pulling] him out of the water in time to save his life (Steinbeck ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. B-Complex Vitamin Group Lab Report The B complex vitamin group is made up of a family of eight vitamins: thiamine (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), niacin (vitamin B3), pyroxidine (vitamin B6), folate (folic acid, vitamin B9), cobalamin (vitamin B12), biotin and pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). Although each of these has its own independent function, they work in synergy in many different ways in the body, acting as co enzymes to help the body obtain energy from food, for example, or supporting red blood cell formation. This vital group of nutrients are water soluble, meaning that they dissolve in water. This results in poor storage in the body and therefore a need to obtain a regular supply from our diet or supplement. The water soluble status of B vitamins also means that they are easily destroyed or washed out during food storage or preparation. Proper storage and preparation of food can minimise vitamin loss so you should always refrigerate fresh produce, keep milk and grains away from strong light, and use cooking water from vegetables to prepare soups. Here is a closer look at each one.... THIAMIN (vitamin B1) WHAT DOES IT DO? This useful vitamin helps to release energy from food, promotes muscle function (especially in the heart), red blood cell and amino acid production, looks after the maintenance of the nervous system and supports digestion. WHERE IS IT FOUND? In whole grains, oats, red meat, seafood, nuts, pulses and yeast. WHAT IF WE DON T GET ENOUGH? A deficiency in beneficial bacteria can reduce the body s own production of B vitamins, while medication and alcohol consumption can both increase the demand and excretion of thiamin. Thiamin is easily lost through food processing. • 34. Modeling Suburban And Rural Residential Development Beyond... Modeling Suburban and Rural Residential Development beyond the Urban Fringe The authors David A. Newburn and Peter Berck looked at how land use regulations differentially influenced suburban versus rural residential development in exurban areas. Exurban areas are defined as an area that extends beyond the built up urban and contiguously developed suburban areas, but not into the true hinterlands beyond the commuting range of the city centers and their edge cities (Nelson and Sanchez 1997). The journal looks at a county in California that enacted urban growth boundary regulations (UGB) that placed limitations on sewer and water extensions as well as minimum lot size restrictions (zoned maximum residential density). To determine how the restrictions affected the development densities the county was broken up into four zones based on proximity to sewer and water. The individual zones were then divided farther into parcel attributes and proximity to major roads and centers. Newburn and Berck chose the Random Parameter Logit Model (RPL) to arrive at their conclusions. Methodology Newburn and Berck obtained land parcel records from the local county office. The records were from 1993 and showed lot size, date of last subdivision, number of single family units and year built. The data was then imputed over a base map from 2001 using GIS software. • 36. Van Halen s Runnin With The Devil Van Halen was the quintessential 80 s party band before the 80 s were even a thing. Runnin with the Devil is a biography of the band, Van Halen, from their start as a band with a record label up until the departure of David Lee Roth, their frontman, in 1985. So far, the book has looked into their start as a backyard party band in Pasadena, California, with Eddie Van Halen, a master on guitar, his older brother, Alex Van Halen, the drummer who was the backbone of Eddie s riffs, Michael Anthony, the bassist who brought a jazzy tone to their songs, and David Lee Roth, the frontman who brought the California to the band. Back then they were drawing in crowds of at most 300 people. Eventually, they were discovered by Warner Brothers Records, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eddie had some an impetus that drove him to do better. Eddie was in love with his guitar. Originally he had bought a drum set while his brother, Alex, bought an electric guitar. Over a summer when Eddie was delivering newspapers Alex would play his drum set. Eventually, Alex got really good so he and Eddie swapped instruments. After that, it seemed as if there was never a moment where Eddie wasn t without his guitar. One of his favorite things to do for hours on end was noodle , which was a term he used for playing around and making new sounds. One guitar player that really inspired Eddie was Tony Lommi of Black Sabbath. Van Halen toured England for the first time opening for Black Sabbath. It wasn t just talent and originality that separated Tony from his heavy metal and hard rock brethren; it was the backstory. (Monk 111). When Tony was only 17 years old, he lost the tips of both his ring and middle fingers on his right hand in an industrial accident. Usually, this would be no big deal because most guitar players only strum with their right hands, but Tony was a left handed guitar player, so he fretted with his right and strummed with his left. This really inspired Eddie especially after Tony removed his prosthetics to show him the missing tips. Most people would usually give up and abandon their dreams if something like that ever were to happen to them. Eddie in many ways will always be known as one of the most inspiring guitar players in the world, but inspirational people have others who they look up to as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Apartheid Paragraph Apartheid were the laws passed in South Africa that separated whites and blacks and gave whites more control, while robbing blacks of their rights. Apartheid took place from 1948 1990, and has been one of the most harsh and systematic violations of human rights. Unfair living conditions, tragic events, and courageous people contributed to the end of apartheid in South Africa. The living conditions in South Africa were very cruel during apartheid, and motivated people to end it. The Doctor/population shows how the living conditions were better for the Afrikaners (whites) than the Bantu (blacks). The blacks only had 1 doctor for every 44,000 people while the whites had 1 doctor for every 400 (6). This means the whites could be treated faster and better since the doctors didn t need to worry about so many people. The care the doctors could give would to their patients also was better for the white people because they had more money to receive better medications. The land allocation also proved how there were unfair living conditions towards the blacks. The Afrikaners had better living conditions with the land accolation because they had 87% of the land with only 4.5 million people, while the Bantu had 13% of the land with 19 million people (6). This means that the white s neighborhoods were less crowded than the blacks who had to cram into small huts. Also, germs would spread faster in Bantu neighborhoods than Afrikaners because of how spread out or crammed they were. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Questions On Mixed Metal Oxides 2.11.3 Mixed metal oxides Despite the advantages of individual metal oxides, their CLC performance decreased with the increase of cycles due to the harsh CLC conditions. Therefore, the pure phase of mixed metal oxides and its supported form were prepared from the precursors and the selected support to overcome the limitations of individual metal oxides. The characteristics of individual metal oxides can be retained or even enhanced by mixing of appropriate individual oxides for CLC application in terms of multi cycle CLC performance (cost, activity, stability, mechanical strength, reduction in carbon deposition, etc.). The mixed oxide of Fe and Mn has been developed in our lab as a possible candidate for CLC. Fe Mn mixed oxide possesses the promise as oxygen carrier for the CLC applications due to availability of low cost minerals precursors, relatively high OCC, stability and environmentally benign nature. Mungse et al. reported the pure phase of iron manganese oxides (FeMnO3 and Fe3Mn3O8) that exhibit CLOU property. It was found that Fe3Mn3O8 was reduced into FeMnO3 at higher temperatures. Fe3O4 and MnO were observed as reduced products after methane combustion reaction of FeMnO3 [25]. Nickel manganese oxides were also prepared for methane conversion [50]. CoO NiO oxides were prepared as mixed oxide based oxygen carrier, however, the reaction rate was lower than that of its individual oxides due to the formation of a solid solution of NiCoO2. However, carbon deposition was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Hobbit, Or There And Back Again Essay The Hobbit, or There and Back Again, is a high fantasy novel written by JRR Tolkien and published in the year 1937. Spanning a proper 300 pages it contains an adventure of grand proportions; detailing the exploits of one Bilbo Baggins and his attempts in aiding a band of 13 dwarves to reclaim a lost treasure. Although commonly intended for a child audience, The Hobbit does include subtle hints of adult like themes and motifs such as conflict between different races and the corrupting factor of wealth. Tolkien has been accredited as the father of modern high fantasy for his The Lord of the Rings trilogy of which The Hobbit is a prequel. Furthermore it is crucial to know of Joseph Campbell and his ideas of the monomyth. The late Joseph Campbell was described as an American mythologist having laid the groundwork in both contemporary comparative mythology and comparative religion. Campbell s work is extensive and intersects many attributes of the human experience. It is distinctly Campbell s efforts in generating his monomyth concept which interest many today. The monomyth concept recognizes all myth based works as being a ploy on one form or original story. This is due to common patterns incorporated in a vast majority of myth based works inattentive of time and place of origin. This original story incorporates a hero s call to adventure, his or hers crossing of a threshold, their dealings within a climax and or final battle followed by their return. Amongst the ... • 41. Gender Bias In The United States Throughout the history of the United States, gender bias has been and still is an immense concern. Women have been at the forefront of such prejudice. For several centuries, women have battled for equity in their everyday lives, academically, and professionally. The push for justice has been a slow process, with incremental gains. Initially, educational experiences for women were limited to a curriculum that would support and/or reinforce the ideas that women were less superior to males. Women were identified as the homemakers and their essential duties only entailed domestic skills. There were several ideas that contributed to the connotation of gender bias of women. Notions such as educated women were dangerous to society, their mental and physical well being were at risk if subjected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Constant awareness of classroom interactions is fundamental to develop and model equity that is beneficial to supporting each student s ability to be successful. In more recent years, our educational system has faced challenges that are leading our country back into segregation. Single sex education has resurfaced; jeopardizing the gains our ancestors fought so hard for. A few people believe that the biological make up between genders is significantly different, that having coeducational classes is doing more harm than good. • 42. My Favorite Hobby I have always been a visual learner. That is why I am great at Math: Teachers usually work with the student, writing the problems on the board and solving them. It is the opposite for English: English teachers do not give examples of how to write or put ideas together. Watching someone do something is easier for me. That is how I learned to cook at such a young age. As a child, my parents never physically taught me how to cook. I would watch my Mom and Dad cook dishes that are native to them. I would watch my Dad make Adobo, filling the air with a lovely smell of salt and vinegar. I would watch my Mom make Pozole, moving in the kitchen like Taz, never stopping to rest. I would watch what ingredients they use; noticing how the ingredients, when mixed with others, created a new masterpiece. I learned to cook Mexican and Filipino foods by observing my parents. But I know how to cook more than just Mexican and Filipino foods. I know how to cook Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Spanish, American, and much more. I learned to cook these food types by watching the Food Network channel. Instead of being a normal child, watching cartoons when they got home and on the weekends, I would watch the Food Network, taking mental notes of what they were cooking and the techniques they used, not realizing that I was learning. When I first started cooking, I had trouble. I burnt myself. I burnt the food. I dropped the food. I did not know what tools to use. It was a total mess; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Teen activist and 2014 Nobel Peace prize winner Malala Yousafzai said, I raise up my voice not so that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard . For whom have you raised your voice? One of the most compelling books I read in my life was called Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. It is a story about a young high school girl who was raped by the quarterback of her high school s football team one night at a party. This immediate damage of this traumatic event was her ability to speak out about what happened to her that dark night. As an eighth grader, I was very frustrated at the fact that this young girl had so many opportunities to bring justice to her rape, but never did all because she was still suffering from her experience. While I am not comparing rape to homosexuality, I am stating I understand the angst and self hate that the main character of Anderson s book felt. Growing up, I was told being gay was a one way ticket to Hell and how since God hates faggots, so should I. • 47. Dystopian Differences In The Hunger Games And The Hunger... Dystopian films and books have become popular over the past few years. These tend to reflect the way in which society could possibly soon turn if expecting extremes. Dystopian literature and media also tend to have utopian elements as well. While the societies in these works are strict and controlling, they do offer something that our society could possibly benefit from. Divergent has this element. The population is broken up into five factions that represent the different types of people in society and separate those who would fight easily due to their personal morals. The Hunger Games on the other hand (when modern society crumbled) they punished their citizens for fighting the government. While yes there was a chance for riches in the Hunger Games, it took risking your life to get it. In addition, if one did win the Hunger Games they would have an extremely easy life due to riches and a free luxury house. Divergent does not have this part, as its utopian aspect is the fact different ideals are separated from each other. Utopian literature is a reflection that is a perceived direction society may go. In these stories, mirrors are a device used to symbolically state the universe of the film is a reflection not a reality. The Hunger Games series is based of the book trilogy of the same name. In this series, the Hunger Games are a pageant based on a punishment for a rebellion that occurred approximately 100 years before. In this pageant, two tributes are chosen per district ... War is something that can change the very principles of a person, it can change a person and leave multiple effects that can last for their entire life. The sniper is fighting in a civil war where friends and family can turn into enemies at a moment s notice. The fight is between the Republicans and the Free Staters, the protagonist is a sniper for the Republicans. Throughout the story, we go into the state of mind of the main character and learn some ramifications that he gained in the war. The text, The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty shows us the physical and psychological results of war, that happens to people. The easiest effect that is found throughout the text would be the physical effects, that happens all the time. Midway through the text without a moment s notice he was perfectly fine and then out of nowhere he gets shot. We find out about his injury from the quote from the story, His forearm was dead. I m hit, he muttered. He just finished taking out the informant and the guy in the turret, not even a minute passed and the sniper gets shot causing an injury that might never fully heal. Hunger is an important thing that gets ignored in war and people starve for hours not being able to eat food. Dimoff 25 November 2014 Motivation in Industrial/Organizational Psychology Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology is devoted to the study of employee behavior in the workplace and understanding the issues facing organizations and employees in today s complex and ever changing environment. Motivation refers to the set of forces that influence people to choose various behaviors among several alternatives available to them. An organization depends on the ability of management to provide a positive, fostering and motivating environment for its employees in order to increase profits, productivity and lower turnover rates of its employees. The purpose of this paper is to discuss and compare six academic journal articles and explore the behavior, job, and need based theories of motivation that can aid management in motivating and understanding their employees. Finding that delicate balance to can sometimes be elusive so effectively learning how to motivate by understanding, controlling and influencing factors to manipulate behavior and choices that are available to employees can produce the desired outcome. Behavior based motivation such as Equity Theory, Expectancy Theory and Reinforcement Theories are built on the premise that employee behavior is directly linked to the consequences of their actions.
