A Study On Congenital Visual Agnosia And Prosopagnosia
Case Study: Congenital Visual Agnosia and Prosopagnosia in a Child
In this paper I will be doing a literature review and evaluating the case study of a particular younger
patient with Congenital Visual Agnosia and Prosopagnosia. Visual agnosia is the impairment of the
recognition of different object stimuli, which cannot be explained by other sensory losses (Ariel,
Sadeh, 1996). There is said to be two different classifications or types of diagnosed visual agnosia,
associate and appreciative agnosia (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). Appreciative agnosia is caused by perseptual
impartments, and associative agnosia can be cause by multiple different conditions that cause the loss
of object recognition, and don t really seem to be associated with no other extreme visual impairments
(Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). In this case the child appears to have a case of associative developmental
agnosia.
Congenital Visual Agnosia in this particular child s case, was not cause by anything affecting a visual
perceptual system that was normal (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). Instead, in this particular case the child had
visual system that was developed abnormally since birth (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). It is also mentioned in
this case study that this particular case of congenital visual agnosia is important for research in
understanding both agnosia in children but also how object recognition systems should develop
normally (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). In this particular case study the child they are looking at was

Nobody Identity
The character Nobody, is perhaps the most highly intelligible representation of a native American of
any western films. Nobody was rejected by his own native culture and adopting the name given to him
which means He who talks too much says nothing summing up the false capitalistic activity of the
Western culture (Petković 2011, p 10). Nobody s decision to rename himself demonstrates that he is
cognizant that he is not identical with his socially assigned identity. (J, McMahon). Although he
resembles an Indian, he is well educated and speaks English very well, due to being schooled by white
English speaking men which transcends traditional stereotypes. Jarmusch doesn t try to simplify the
complexity of the Native American societies; even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Painter and writer Henri Michaux (1899 1983) who s work has become The source of a number of
visual motifs and plot turns (Suarez, 2007, 106). Much like Jarmusch his work is associated with
surrealism. Michaux s words are quoted in the epigraph of the opening titles that It s preferable not to
travel with a dead man which originates from his collection of sketches entitled Un Certain Plume. In
the first sketch of the series, he wakes up repeatedly during the night to confront a number of disasters
and unable to deal with them, he just falls asleep again (Suarez 2007, 106). Blake spends the course of
the film slipping in and out of consciousness presumably due to a number of health factors such as his
wound, lack of sleep and food. One scene which reflects his work is the scene of Nobody performing
a ritual on Blake during the night while Blake is unconscious. In Nobody s trance like state the camera
shows Blake s face is double exposed with the image of a skull (figure 1). This is a reference to
Michaux s painting The Prince of Night of which depicts a figure with a skull like face sitting on a

ISU Analysis
One of the themes of the Jade Peony was the difficulty that the early Chinese immigrants had to face
when they came to Canada in the late 1800s. Wong Suk is one of the early immigrants, believing there
is a gold mountain that could make them rich. There had also been rumours of gold in the rivers that
poured down those mountain cliffs, gold that could make a man and his family wealthy overnight. (pg
17). When he first arrived, he found out the gold mountain was only a lie, instead waiting for him is
dangerous railroad work, a low paying job with only a few dollars left to send back to China every
month, and never enough dollars to buy passage home. (pg 17). He also had to face a racist Canadian
government, who passed the Chinese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The old people, Poh Poh and Wong Bak, never integrated into the Canadian Society, and were unable
to accept the Canadian culture. They were deeply devoted to their native country and had to go back to
China to die, as indicated by Wong Bak s parting words, bone must come to rest where they most
belong (Choy Pg. 35). Adults such as Father and Stepmother were trying to fit into the new society
and were ready to give up their Chinese ways. At the same time, adults like Stepmother easily became
a prisoner who was trapped between two cultures. What does this White Demon want? said
Stepmother, I could see she wished Suling were here, with her perfect English (Choy Pg. 140). The
younger generations born in Vancouver, like Juk Liang and Sekky, were willing to become real
Canadians. They hoped to be treated equally as the Canadian children, but even though they were born
in Vancouver, they were still considered to be Chinese by other Canadians. The youths were distressed
under the pressure of the older adults. The older generation said, you do not know Chinese, you are
mo yung useless or mo nos no brain (Choy Pg. 135). Smart English not Smart Chinese (Choy Pg. 141)
was another derogatory comment young Chinese Canadians had to endure. It was very hard to balance
between their original identities and their chosen identities. For example Mrs. Lim asks Sek Lung:

Meaning the Medium Is the Message
What is the Meaning of The Medium is the Message? by Mark Federman Former Chief Strategist
McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology a culture like ours, long accustomed to splitting and
dividing all things as a means of control, it is sometimes a bit of a shock to be reminded that, in
operational and practical fact, the medium is the message. This is merely to say that the personal and
social consequences of any medium that is, of any extension of ourselves result from the new scale
that is introduced into our affairs by each extension of ourselves, or by any new technology.
(McLuhan, 1964, p. 7) Thus begins the classic work of Marshall McLuhan, Understanding Media, in
which he introduced the world to his enigmatic paradox, The ... Show more content on

In the case of a specific theatrical production, its message may be a change in attitude or action on the
part of the audience that results from the medium of the play itself, which is quite distinct from the
medium of theatrical production in general. Similarly, the message of a newscast are not the news
stories themselves, but a change in the public attitude towards crime, or the creation of a climate of
fear. A McLuhan message always tells us to look beyond the obvious and seek the nonobvious
changes or effects that are enabled, enhanced, accelerated or extended by the new thing. McLuhan
defines medium for us as well. Right at the beginning of Understanding Media, he tells us that a
medium is any extension of ourselves. Classically, he suggests that a hammer extends our arm and that
the wheel extends our legs and feet. Each enables us to do more than our bodies could do on their
own. Similarly, the medium of language extends our thoughts from within our mind out to others.
Indeed, since our thoughts are the result of our individual sensory experience, speech is an outering of
our senses we could consider it as a form of reversing senses whereas usually our senses bring the
world into our minds, speech takes our sensorially shaped minds out to the world. But McLuhan
always thought of a medium in the sense of a growing medium,

Gladiatorial Contest in Rome
Gladiatorial Contest in Rome Rome was a warrior state. Since the state was a great fighting state in
their time, the wars sort of formed the gladiatorial contest in ancient Rome. The Romans were
fascinated and pleasured by violence, bloodshed, and human suffering the gladiatorial games. The
gladiatorial contests began at the reign of their first emperor Augustus to pay tribute to their warrior
traditions. The Romans built artificial battlefields within amphitheaters in cities and towns for public
entertainment. It is very obvious that gladiatorial contest were important because of the enormous size
of the amphitheaters. In A.D. 80, the Colosseum, which seated fifty thousand people, was used to
accompany a hundred days of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was then when officers of the state started producing the gladiatorial shows on a regular basis as a
part of their job. Emperor Augustus restricted the gladiatorial games to two a year, limiting the
aristocrats chances to receive the peoples vote for political offices. Each of the officials were
forbidden to spend more on themselves than their associates. However, the emperor s rules were often
broken by aristocrats due to the competitiveness of political power and prestige. Animals played a part
in the gladiatorial shows also. In A.D. 108 9, Emperor Trajan gave games lasting 123 days containing
9,138 gladiators fought eleven thousand animals. In 169 B.C., sixty three African lions and leopards,
forty bears, and several elephants were murdered in a single show. Romans then started to hunt new
animals such as tigers, crocodiles, giraffes, lynxes, rhinoceros, and ostriches. Some shows involved
hundreds of animals in one show. All of the animals were killed for entertainment. Gladiators were
heroes to their culture. Even though most of the gladiators were slaves, women were attracted to them.
But gladiators were also degraded by society. They were not allowed to be buried in normal burial
grounds. Women also fought in gladiatorial games also. The women fought in the arena were men
fought. An example of women fighting was found on a small stone relief, depicting two female
gladiators, with one breast bare, called Amazon an Achillia. Sports

Racial Discrimination Essay
They say the government mislead the youth? Tell them that there, is the truth... Throughout the 20th
century and continuing through the 21st century, the United States of America is now more diverse
than it has ever been. While being more diverse than previously, minorities are continuously being
portrayed as less than they are worth. Minorities have made significant strides towards equality in
American society. The three examples media persuades individuals perception of other ethnic groups
is through creating a perception that Caucasian is the standard beauty, misrepresentation of other
races, and favoritism towards certain races in films. A tactic that media uses is by pushing the idea that
being Caucasian is the standard of beauty. A prime example of the effect the media has on individuals
is, The Doll Test . The Doll Test is an experiment which was conducted by doctors Kenneth and
Mamie Clark in the 1940s. The experiment was conducted to study the psychological effects of
segregation on African American children. The Clarks took a group of children between the ages of
three and seven, and gave them two different dolls, which were identical except for their skin color
goal of the experiment was to use four dolls which were identical excluding its skin color, to test
children s racial perceptions. The Doctors then asked the following questions, Which doll is good? and
Which doll is prettier? and Which do you want to play with? This experiment brought the idea of

The Benefits Of Geothermal Energy
Throughout history, society has been looking for ways to increase renewable energy to provide better
resources to replace fossil fuels to reduce carbon footprints. The earth is a great source of natural
energy therefore thermal energy is one of the most abundant resources. There are many types of
renewable energy, such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat. Geothermal heat
renewable energy converts natural heat into electricity resources. Geothermal energy represents the
inner heat of the earth s core. Geothermal energy is mainly produced by decays of radioactive
elements in the mantle and the center of the earth s layers. Heat is constantly flowing from the Earth
center to the surface creating a great source of natural energy. These geothermal power plants drill
wells into geothermal tanks to transfer hot water and steam from the earth s core to the surface. One
great advantage of geothermal energy is that using the resources of water and steam, you are able to
reuse and pump back the supplies into the ground. Another perk of using geothermal energy is that the
energy is clean. Geothermal energy is environmental friendly because the power plants don t use fossil
fuels.
Some of the largest geothermal projects are located in Imperial Valley, California. It has eleven power
plants built near the San Andreas Fault. These power plants are owned and operates by a company
called CalEnergy Operating Corporation and are producing more than seven hundred Mega

Mythology Short Answers Essay
1). How is the word myth used popularly? For example, what does the statement, It s a myth mean? In
contrast, how is the word myth used in the academic context? After considering the definition in your
textbooks and course materials, write a definition in your own words.
The academic definition of a myth is discovering a way of making meaning that has been part of every
human society. I believe myths are stories that are told from generation to generation. Depending on
our culture, religion, beliefs and so on would determine the moral meaning behind the story. Some
myths are legends. For example, the cross of Jesus is determined to be a legend and a myth.

Religion is what people believe in, their faith, like a since of hope. In today s society some religions
have become myths so the start of newer religions may form. The very basic aspects of the world
around us that myths explains are the course of day and night or seasons, the mysteries of life and
death, and the creation of the world. In the African American culture we believe when a loved one has
passed on we should celebrate their life. Celebrating their life means they are no longer in pain or
suffering they are going home to the Almighty and we should be happy for them. Dealing with
change, suffering, and loss is really about the same we pray to the man above and hope we can get
through it. In our culture we rely a lot on hope.
4). How would you defend mythology s relevance in contemporary culture? Think about familial and
cultural traditions. Also, consider how mythology is used in the arts and in advertising to typify human
experience.
Mythology has to put forth a comprehensive compelling force on the culture, the arts and the literature

Environmental Effects Of Plastics Essay

of plastic was created in 2010 and 12.7 million tons entered the ocean. Effects on people,
environment, animals, where does it go? There are 7 types of plastic according to Mercola; Plastic #1:
Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) is things like water bottles and condiment containers, this plastic is
listed as safe but can leach chemicals during production. Plastic #2: High Density Polyethylene
(HDPE) is used for milk, juice, and shampoo bottles, these are considered as a low level of toxicity.
Plastic #3: Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) these plastics are used for plastic wrap, plastic toys, some
medication containers. PVC is considered semi toxic and releases hormonal toxins that can alter
someone s hormones. Plastic #4: Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), used for bags, milk cartons, and
garbage bags it is very low toxicity. Plastic #5: Polypropylene (PP), is used for yogurt and similar
containers and is found to release some toxins.Plastic #6: Polystyrene (PS) , this is styrofoam and is
very bad it can release styrene which can damage the nervous system and is linked to cancer.
Temperature also plays a role because when styrofoam is at a low temperature less is leaked and when
at a high temperature more is leaked. Plastic #7: any other plastic or combination of plastics this one is
dangerous because you don t know what is in it and what chemicals you could be coming in contact

the number of concealed weapons permits in Florida skyrocketed, from 347,350 to 979,000

explanation offered for a relationship between Stand Your Ground laws and homicides is that an
increased number of individuals may carry guns in public and be willing to use them as a result of
these laws (Lantigua). Most of the increase in justifiable homicides was due to police shootings which

of the fact more citizens are carrying weapons. Police officers are going to be a lot more cautious on

The rise in civilian shootings from 2004 to 2011 is the statistic that has everyone on edge.

Transportation and How it Affects Logistics
Transportation is one of the largest industry in the world. It is the most costly and time consuming of
the supply chain. Transportation refers to the movement of a product from one destination to another.
This process begins from the supply chain to the consumer, for as we know that products are rarely
produced in the same location. We as people depend on transportation. Because it moves our goods
and it moves us as a people from one place to another.
Transportation is a key element in the logistic chain. It joins together those components that are
considered to be separated. In order for transportation and logistics to work together successfully there
must be good management between them. It plays a major role in connecting it all together. Supply
chain management is defined as a continuously evolving management philosophy that seeks to unify
the collective productive competencies and resources of the business functions found both within the
enterprise and outside in the firm s allied business partners located along intersecting supply channels
into highly competitive, customer enriching supply system focused on developing innovative solutions
and synchronizing the flow of marketplace products, services, and information to create unique,
individualized sources of customer value (Ross, 1998).
SCM can be divided into three main groups: purchase, manufacture, and transport (Thomas et al.,
1996). The focus is on transportation. There are different modes of transportation.

3 Economic Principles You Can Apply to Your Life
Time to rewind back to Economics 101. The beautiful topic of Economics is based on the principal of

1933599909_d5dde5519e_mThe law of diminishing returns states that if one factor of production is
increased while the others remain constant, the overall returns will relatively decrease after a certain

additional laborer will add relatively less output than his predecessor did, simply because he has less

Liberalism And Realism In International Relations
Many scholars have observed IR (International relations) through different theoretical lens throughout
time, the two most debated on theoretical lens in international relation are liberalism and realism.
Realism according to Korab Karpowicz is the view of international politics in which states are only
concerned with there own self interest, security and struggle of power (Korab Karpowicz/2017).
While on the other hand liberalism defined by John Ikenberry is the focus of society, interdependence
and progressive change (Ikenberry 2009/pg.204 205).Although realism sees the world in a pessimistic
view, it is the most powerful descriptor of IR. This essay will support the claim that realism has
provided a more convincing description of IR through the analysis of power lust, self security and
economic greed states have shown throughout time. However the essay will also entertain liberalist
arguments through the view of interdependence and common interest.
Whether it is the domination of one man over another or one state dominating another it has always
been in human nature to seek power over others. Power lust is key in the understanding international
relations. According to various realist scholars Of all people s evil ways, none are more prevalent or
dangerous than their instinctive lust for power and their desire to dominate others (Kegley 2017/
pg.28). The Nazis lust for power over Europe in the 19th century is a key example of natural lust for
power that has been

The Shean Use Of Sleep In Shakespeare s Sonnet 27
Shakespeare s Sonnet 27 describes how despite the speaker s physical exhaustion, he cannot sleep
because his mind remains active with thoughts of his lover. In this sonnet, Shakespeare uses diction,
imagery, and metaphor in order to express his complete devotion to his sweetheart.
In the first quatrain, the speaker quickly attempts to sleep, saying he is with travel tired (2). The word
travel indicates that the speaker wants to rest because he journeyed all day long, but the
Shakespearean use of travel also holds the connotation of hard work or something painful. The
speaker also begins to play off of this word choice by using imagery of traveling to convey how his
active brain prevents him from falling asleep, saying But then begins a journey in my head / To work
my mind, when body s work s expired (3 4). The image of a journey depicts the nature of the speaker s
thoughts; random, trivial wonderings do not keep him awake, but rather, his mind focuses on a sole
objective and continues along a distinct path. The use of the journey as a metaphor also implies that
like the agony physically traveling creates, his wandering mind endures similarly grueling obstacles
while trying to reach his destination. This comparison produces irony because although the speaker
wants to sleep to escape the exhaustion of the day, he only encounters an equally strenuous burden.
The second quatrain reveals the speaker s destination and further explores the hardship he meets on
his metaphorical journey. The speaker continues the traveling imagery by saying his thoughts Intend a
zealous pilgrimage to thee (6), with thee referring to his lover to whom he addresses the poem. The
description of the pilgrimage as zealous further strengthens the parallels between literal travel and his
thinking, illustrating the speaker s passionate feelings about his lover, and his determination to make
the taxing journey indicates his complete devotion to his partner. The use of the word pilgrimage also
intensifies this sense of devotion; because people often go on pilgrimages for religious place, the
speaker describes his commitment to his lover as strong as one to religion. The speaker then
introduces the image of darkness by saying,

from smoking cigarettes to not smoking at all. It is difficult to comprehend why generation after

detrimental effects of the behavior.

As the diagram below shows, the tobacco rod is covered by the cigarette paper. The filter plug is
shrouded by the plug wrap paper, and both are joined together by the tipping paper. King size
cigarettes are typically around 80 mm long and 8 mm in diameter, while containing around 750 mg of
tobacco. Filter lengths range 25 30 mm. When the end of a cigarette burns, the smoke from the
combustion moves through the unburned tobacco and filter, then inhaled into the user s mouth and
lungs. Some of the most dangerous elements of smoking are a product of the combustion. Electronic
cigarettes can come in many different shapes and sizes and can be realistic looking or can be in larger
forms with batteries and larger tanks. They all use the same basic concept as the diagram below
shows. When an e cigarette is triggered (either by an inhale or with a button press) the battery
connected to the heating element (atomizer) boils a tiny amount of liquid (e liquid). This creates a
vapor which is inhaled by the user. At no point is anything burned through the process of combustion
so no smoke/ash/tar is ever created (Project Vape).
The most obvious reason for kicking the smoking habit, or never picking it up, is the ridiculous
amount of toxic chemicals found in a cigarette or cigarette smoke. There are over 4000 known
chemicals in some form of the cigarette. The most dangerous of the chemicals would be the

Police Brutality In The 21st Century
According to Harper s Index , the police killed 35 people by taser as of August 2015. Police brutality
has been a hot topic across the nation this past year; this statistic has caught the attention of many
citizens of the United States because of the current inclination to blame police for unnecessary deaths.
Although the police force is accountable for 35 lives taken by tasers so far this year, the statistic is not
a dramatic increase from previous years. It is receiving so much attention because of the public view
of police as a whole and a lack of comparison to years past. Harper s Index left out vital information
that could change the way readers react to it and view the situation that our country faces regarding
police brutality.

This statistic fails to recognize that the average number of deaths per year caused by police use of
tasers since 2009 per year is about 57 [Electronic Village]. The failure to add this in the factoid causes
a very different conclusion, because in fact this year we are below the average number compared to
previous years. If this statistic was included in Haper s Index s statistic readers would not be as
shocked and enraged by the police forces actions. Harper s Index use of this statistic, by itself , is
deceiving the readers who make conclusions that the number of deaths was shocking and that changes
need to be made, but in reality the statistic is not out of the ordinary compared to years past. In
addition to leaving out the comparison to past years, it also leaves out the actual circumstance in
which the victim died. For example four of the victims I researched were shot with a taser and due to
heart problems, died [The Guardian]. In another case that I researched, the victim was shot with a
taser gun and tried to continue to flee; the electric shock caused him to lose his balance and fall off an
eight foot wall to his death. The police force s intent in many of these situations was not to kill the
citizen but because of circumstances unknown to the police at the time, death was the

for source: To begin with, cells create atherosclerotic deposits, and these deposits arise on vessel
walls. This is formed when LDL deposits tend to become stuck in the matrix, and they undergo
oxidation and glycation. Macrophages then feast on LDL s, becoming fueled with fatty droplets. If
there is an inflammatory disease, this can cause more growth of plaque, and a fibrous cap or the lipid

Essay On State Of Matter
All matter can move from one state to another. It may require extreme temperatures or extreme
pressures, but it can be done. Sometimes a substance doesn t want to change states. You have to use all
of your tricks when that happens. To create a solid, you might have to decrease the temperature by a
huge amount and then add pressure. For example, oxygen (O2) will solidify at 361.8 degrees
Fahrenheit ( 218.8 degrees Celsius) at standard pressure. However, it will freeze at warmer
temperatures when the pressure is increased.
Some of you know about liquid nitrogen (N2). It is nitrogen from the atmosphere in a liquid form and
it has to be super cold to stay a liquid. What if you wanted to turn it into a solid but couldn t make it

Phase change of solid to a liquid when energy is added.
Imagine that you are a solid. You re a cube of ice sitting on a counter. You dream of becoming liquid
water. You need some energy. Heat is probably the easiest energy you can use to change your physical
state. The atoms in a liquid have more energy than the atoms in a solid.
There is a special temperature for every substance called the melting point. When a solid reaches the
temperature of its melting point, it can become a liquid. For water, the temperature needs to be a little
over zero degrees Celsius (0oC) for you to melt.
If you were salt, sugar, or rock, your melting point is higher than that of water. How do you know that
fact? If their melting points were lower, they would also be liquids when the temperature is above zero
degrees Celsius. The reverse of the melting process is called freezing. Liquid water freezes and
becomes solid ice when the molecules lose energy.
Solid to a Gas and Back to a Solid
Water vapor can become dew (liquid) or frost (solid) at night.

Onychotillomania is an obsessive compulsive disorder marked by the picking at or pulling out of one s

others experience very mild forms. In the more extreme forms people completely rip out their
fingernails and toenails from their fingers and toes. The more mild cases are people picking either at

American School System
The American school system is absolutely broken. A product of terrible teachers and administrators,
horrible districts, and our country s inability to fix the inherent flaws of the system. We sit back as the
youth of our proud nation spend their days in the factory we call school. Factory because schools are
not designed to teach our children. These factories throw knowledge at the kids left and right. There
are so many bits and pieces of information being hurled around at once. With the vast expanse of
knowledge entering the minds of young people during the day, one would assume the child would rise
to become educated. But the problem is, schooling by itself creates no intelligent people. Schools are

and attribute their success to themselves. It is the fantasy like concept of the American self made man.
This dreamlike concept is completely shattered by the idea that successful individual are, above all
else, lucky. If we look at Nobel prize winners and their backgrounds, we see that many of them are
from areas with good schools. These communities with lots of support, minimal drug use, and
basically zero murders, nurture great minds. That is the luck of the intellectual at play. Take into
account this hypothetical example. Two boys are born in the same time periods with the same drive to
succeed. Both boys go about schooling with the same initial enthusiasm. The difference between them
is that one lives in a clean district with a great school. This child never stops performing. Partially
because of great teachers, and partially because of the support from home. This child is not influenced
by all of the harmful things of inner city environments. But the other boy is. The other boy was
unlucky enough to be born into a family who does not love him. This boy lives in poverty, has seen his
mother doing bad things, and the schools barely teach him a single thing. Frustrated with school the

Pain During Pregnancy
Leg Pain during Pregnancy: Can it Be Serious?
Experiencing leg pain during pregnancy is normal. Major leg pain may indicate a more serious
medical condition. Here are five common causes of leg pain during pregnancy.
Sciatica
One of the most common causes of leg pain during pregnancy is sciatica. This can occur because of
weight gain, a heavy belly pulling on the back and the uterus pressuring the sciatic nerve. Sometimes
the baby s head will directly rest on the nerve itself. The sciatic nerve starts at the lower back and runs
down the back of each leg to the feet. This causes pain in the lumbar area and back of the legs. Leg

This results in swollen feet, ankles and legs. Edema typically occurs during the third trimester. While
it is temporary, a pregnant women with multiples will experience more discomfort and tenderness.
Varicose veins tend to develop alongside edema. http://www.ivein.com/ Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
Venous thrombosis is when a blood clot forms in a vein. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurs in a vein
far below the surface of the skin. DTV typically appears in the legs or pelvis. Symptoms of DVT
include pain or swelling in the leg, red skin and abnormally large veins. An untreated blood clot is a
serious condition that can result in a pulmonary embolism (PE). This is when the blood clot becomes
stuck in a lung. This life threatening condition can cause breathing difficulty, chest pain and ultimately
physical collapse.
Uterine Fibroids
These are non cancerous tumors that grow inside the uterus. At least 20 percent of women are through
to develop uterine fibroids during pregnancy. Doctors believe that fibroids occur because of hormonal
changes or genetic history. While they may be very small, they are also very dangerous. They can
increase pressure on the bladder and even block the uterine opening, which will result in a cesarean

BENEFITS OF EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING
The more often your baby breastfeeds, the more milk you will produce. By exclusively breastfeeding,
you help to ensure that your baby has an ample supply of milk. Supplementing with water or infant
formula when your baby would otherwise be breastfeeding may send a message to your body that less
milk is needed. Your baby may become full from the supplements and breastfeed less. This can
interfere with the establishment of your milk supply.
Exclusive breastfeeding helps to develop your baby s immune system in a healthy way. Your breast
milk contains antibodies your baby needs to to fight off germs that cause infections. Breastfed babies
are also less likely to develop food allergies. When your baby is introduced to foods other than breast
milk too soon, his or her body is more likely to interpret that food as an allergen, making antibodies
against it. This is what causes food allergies. If your baby breastfeeds less because he or she is also
receiving supplements, he or she may have a harder time fighting infections or be more likely

Pennsylvania, and near Washington, DC, to symbolize areas impacted on 9/11.
The 9/11 Memorial Museum opened on May 21, 2014. It is located beneath the Memorial plaza. The
main exhibition space is located seven stories below the 9/11 Memorial at the bedrock foundations of
the World Trade Center. A memorial exhibition honors the individual victims of the attacks.
On October 2014, the One World Trade Center opened. The Architects that built the building were
Skidmore, Owing Merril. The One World Trade center is the tallest building of the new World Trade
Center Complex. It is 104 stories high which is 1,776 feet high, symbolizing the year America became
independent. The cubic base of the One World Trade Center is similar to the Twin Towers. This
skyscraper has roughly 49,000 cubic yards of concrete, which is enough to pave 200 miles of New
York City s sidewalks.
The developers of the One World Trade Center designed the tower to be the safest in the world.
Instead of standard concrete, they used high strength concrete, which is seven times stronger. Even the
reinforcement steel bars are larger than normal to make the One World Trade Center stronger. The One
World Trade Center exceeds New York City s building safety code

The Size and Economic Impact of the Hospitality and...
The Size and Economic Impact of the Hospitality and Tourism industry:
Tourism is a massive industry in New Zealand. It has a major consequence on the rest of the economy
from the employment it provides to a major percentage of the workforce (9.6% of the total workforce
in New Zealand), thereby contributing to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The tourism growth in New Zealand is the outcome of the numerous of options that the hospitality
industry offer visitors from all over the world. Some of the choice of accommodation that NZ offers
are Apartments, Beach Houses, Holiday homes, Motels, Backpackers, Holiday Parks, Homestays,
Nature retreats, Resorts , Health spas, Vineyard accommodation, Bed and breakfast, Farmstays, Hotels

3. Turnover:
The holiday park sector employed 2,200 people in 2009 and a large number (37%) of holiday parks
were run by self employed operators with no employees and 35% were small with 1 5 employees
(Ministry of Economic Development, 2010b). Consequently the turnover in this sector is insignificant.
When explored for accurate data on labour turnover in the self employed holiday theme park sector
with some employees, information was very limited. Some media articles on turnover in a particular
HTP i.e. Waihi Beach TOP 10 Holiday Resort states that their turnover has grown strongly, averaging
17% year on year growth, and some years as high as 25%(Voxy News Engine, 2011). Since, the article
does not explain the reason for the turnover but an assumption can be made from the types of visitors
at HTP, which is the employees employed at these places, ought to be travellers on holiday work visa.
4. Wages:
Tourism is a service industry and high quality tourism experiences rely on delivery of world class
service standards. Consecutively to provide a world class service, the industry requires skilled labour
force. A tight labour market demands attractive and competitive pay rates and working conditions. The
following table shows an average wage of an employee in hospitality sector. Although the industry is
growing at standard rate the wages are relatively low for tourism sector when compared to other
sectors.

Buddhist Art Analysis
Everything means something. The artwork of Buddhism has special ways of conveying meaning
through their artwork. Everything from colors to hand gestures means an incredible amount of
information. As a newcomer to these ideas the best way to convey what I have learned is by showing
the artwork that made everything come together and explain what they mean to the practice and to me.
The first place we visited was right outside of Chengdu. (See Figure.P1) This was the Wenshu
Monastery, the first monastery we visited on the program; it set the tone for the difference between
Chinese Buddhist Art and Tibetan Buddhist Art. The architecture seen in Figure.P1 can be attribute to
the Qing Dynasty around 1700 AD, although, the main buildings were original ... Show more content

In Chinese Buddhist monasteries such as Wenshu, it is common for Maitreya to be portrayed sitting
with prayer beads in one hand and the other resting in a relaxed position. His pose while sitting is also
quite relaxed with an abnormal pose of on leg bent up and the other bent to corner the other leg while
both feet meet together. The artwork of the Laughing Buddha Chinese Maitreya is immediately

Since 1913, Clorox has had a reputation of leading the industry with its products.
This situational analysis includes industry forces, company statistics and financial information, a list
of environmental factors that deal with how the company operates, and competitor information.
Industry Forces
The Clorox Company does business within the industry of Nondurable Goods; especially relevant to
the product of Disinfecting Wipes, the company is associated with the sub industry of Household
Products. Two significant forces should be considered when examining the industry and individual
companies within this industry: innovation and competition.
Threat of Substitutes and Innovation
The threat of substitutes for the Household Products of the Nondurables Industry is high. As
mentioned before, each company produces a product that is very similar to its competitors. Customers
also have high bargaining power in that they can buy substitute products such as paper towels and
disinfecting sprays. If a company does not spend time and effort marketing its products, consumers
will not be able to differentiate them from a competitor.
The typical household product has a life of approximately five years from the conception of the
product until it is stripped from shelves. The product will go through one to two years of development,
testing, and marketing. It will then

Astyanax s Humble Sacrifice For His People Analysis
1. Biography paragraph that summarizes my myth
a. Astyanax s Humble Sacrifice for His People
i. I had the opportunity to grow up because of Hermes. He saved me from a certain death by the hands
of the Greeks when my parent s city fell. He saved all of my people who are living today. Without
him, the Trojan race would only have survived through Aeneas. Now, I have a thriving people and a
beautiful city named after my father. ii. My next personal story is about the choice that made me the
leader I am today. I was the boy king of Hectia, and I had anything that I could ask for. However, my
instincts told me that something was missing from my life, besides my family of course gods bless
their souls. I asked my godly tutor, a disguised Hermes, what I was missing from my life. After he
revealed his information to me, I went on a quest for to find out my fate. iii. The Fates were an
amazing resource. They told me my fate, and the choice I had before me. I could pick personal glory
or the glory of my descendants. So, I did what was best for my people. I gave up my desires for

power. As Zeus always says, mortals blame us for everything. Oh, and do not get us started on all of
the mortals who come crying or scheming to us. Astyanax was one of those fools. However,
something incredible happened with that mortal: he understood. He understood and sacrificed. We
have never seen anything like it. The heroes that make it to us never get to that point of enlightenment
without their divine cheerleaders shoving it down their throats. We are voting for Astyanax because he
learns from his hubris and other faults. In the end, Astyanax does what is best for his people. Just look
at his choice, he gave up personal glory for the merely the potential glory of his descendants. How
much more selfless could you get in this age where it is always about eternal glory? the

Gravity is a force pulling together matter which is basically everything you touch. Forces are in play
all around us. Things that is hanging, sitting, balancing, and moving are all using force. Force can
come in many different forms and types. Force is a push or pull. It is not something that you touch or
see but you can see the force in action. Force can be measured in a device that is called the force
meter. If there is an interaction between two object it means that force if found in the two objects.

norm in comparing to three times the population norm of the weekday injuries. This gives the
authenticity of the statistical data. In addition, The Toronto Star mentions both men and women were
equally affected by suicide and, about 80 per cent patients had seen doctors in the month previous to
suicide. The Toronto Star article concludes the story focusing the importance of the awareness

The flashy advertisements broadcast in television generate impulse shopping in children. Children,
after watching the glitter of commercials, often lose the ability to live a life without materialistic joy.
The kids usually get more attracted towards the costly branded products, such as jeans and
accessories. They disregard the inexpensive, but useful, ones that are not shown in the commercials.
Advertisements have an indirect effect on the behavior of children. They might develop temper
tantrums, when deprived of the latest toys and clothes that are shown in the commercials. The
personal preferences in clothing, toys, food and luxurious of children are altered by the
advertisements, to a great extent. Junk foods, such as pizzas, burgers and soft drinks, are heavily
promoted during children s TV viewing time. This develops a craving for fatty, sugary and fast foods
in kids, thereby affecting their health adversely. BELOW ARE FINDINGS FROM SOME OF THE
MORE RELIABLE STUDIES. In last 20 years impact of TV advertisements on children memory and
behavior is the major topic of debates in countries open for market competition (Boddewyn, 1984).Till
1988 advertising expense of TV program raised up to $500 million approximately (Leccese, 1989).
While looking at the children responses to TV advertisement a research experiment revealed that
children s food choices especially in snacks are based on their exposure to TV commercials (Gorn and

Conclusion Of A Utopia
Every modern architects is trying to achieve a dream they have never been perfectly successful society
a Utopia. The word utopia first described as fictional island society in Sir Thomas More s book Utopia
in 1516 as perfect community with a visionary system of political and society cities that function to
improve man s daily lives and free from problems. This imagination city can never exist. Yet, the
concept of utopia has influenced to the arts, especially architects. In the early 20th century, the world
was facing the destruction by World War 1. A modernist movement was beginning by Le Corbusier,
Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe, to name the best known among them. By bringing in new

The most important is everything has to be functional. Thus, modernists planned the urban according
to their function and purpose. Residential and commercial were always separated by zoning. Mostly
these two zone is separated by district or interlinking road. Most of them are far with each other. Each
zone has to be practical and functional on their own purpose. This is also what a Utopia aim to be.
Function is more important than everything.
Chapter 4.0 Conclusion Utopia was mean to be perfect but no utopia can ever give satisfaction to
everyone. In fact, people are demanding more and the pricier price will be pay for the satisfaction.
This is what will be happen whenever things are going same to a large number of people and
eventually humanity will be drowned. The evolution of machine might change the quality lifestyle of
human but it is reversing humanity. There are a lot of agree and disagreement about utopia. Some
agree that utopia represented the ideological of the whole society. Eventually some disagree this
statement and said utopia is impossible to success and listing out the reason of failure of utopia. In my
opinion, there is no wrong or right in utopia. Human have to learn from the wrong and making it right.

emphasizing single sex education and the advantages that come with studying in it. According to the
article, single sex education is taking public school students to a new level, providing them with a
greater variety of academic opportunities ( Single Sex Education , 2003). The purpose of the article is
to educate its audience, specifically the schools, to adopt the single sex education strategy because it
leads to improvement in the performance of students, increases the college acceptance rates and also
reduces the number of teen pregnancies. Through these arguments, the article makes use of pathos by
appealing to the emotions of the parents whose daughters have been pregnant during schools and

The Unknown Of D Day
Matthew Fear Ms. Williams English 1 S1 18 April 2016 The Unknown of D Day June 6th, 1944 will
be a day forever remembered in history as the beginning of the end for Nazi Control in Western
Europe. D Day, otherwise known as Operation Overlord, was a combined effort of allied forces
consisting of Americans, British, Belgium, Canadian, French, Danish, and Norwegian military
branches to free Europe from notorious German control. Many questions involving D Day have yet to
be answered, such as the ones to be listed. How did the French Underground/French Resistance assist
in the invasion? Why were paratroopers crucial to the push inland from the beaches? Why were the
German Panzer tanks kept in reserve when they could ve pushed the allied advance back? What were
the tactical failures committed by the Germans? And what was the aftermath for the French following
the invasion? Only a small amount of information has shed light on the topic of the German s tactical
blunders that occurred on and around D Day. As stated by historical documents collected by Cornelius
Ryan, who was an Irish author who followed allied units in Europe and the Pacific during WWII, And
so it was that, one by one, senior officers from Rommel down had left the front on the very eve of the
battle. All of them had reasons, but it was almost as thought a capricious fate had manipulated their
departure. (Ryan 106). Based upon the actions of these commanding officers taking leave to visit

  • 2. A Study On Congenital Visual Agnosia And Prosopagnosia Case Study: Congenital Visual Agnosia and Prosopagnosia in a Child In this paper I will be doing a literature review and evaluating the case study of a particular younger patient with Congenital Visual Agnosia and Prosopagnosia. Visual agnosia is the impairment of the recognition of different object stimuli, which cannot be explained by other sensory losses (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). There is said to be two different classifications or types of diagnosed visual agnosia, associate and appreciative agnosia (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). Appreciative agnosia is caused by perseptual impartments, and associative agnosia can be cause by multiple different conditions that cause the loss of object recognition, and don t really seem to be associated with no other extreme visual impairments (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). In this case the child appears to have a case of associative developmental agnosia. Congenital Visual Agnosia in this particular child s case, was not cause by anything affecting a visual perceptual system that was normal (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). Instead, in this particular case the child had visual system that was developed abnormally since birth (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). It is also mentioned in this case study that this particular case of congenital visual agnosia is important for research in understanding both agnosia in children but also how object recognition systems should develop normally (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). In this particular case study the child they are looking at was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Nobody Identity The character Nobody, is perhaps the most highly intelligible representation of a native American of any western films. Nobody was rejected by his own native culture and adopting the name given to him which means He who talks too much says nothing summing up the false capitalistic activity of the Western culture (Petković 2011, p 10). Nobody s decision to rename himself demonstrates that he is cognizant that he is not identical with his socially assigned identity. (J, McMahon). Although he resembles an Indian, he is well educated and speaks English very well, due to being schooled by white English speaking men which transcends traditional stereotypes. Jarmusch doesn t try to simplify the complexity of the Native American societies; even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Painter and writer Henri Michaux (1899 1983) who s work has become The source of a number of visual motifs and plot turns (Suarez, 2007, 106). Much like Jarmusch his work is associated with surrealism. Michaux s words are quoted in the epigraph of the opening titles that It s preferable not to travel with a dead man which originates from his collection of sketches entitled Un Certain Plume. In the first sketch of the series, he wakes up repeatedly during the night to confront a number of disasters and unable to deal with them, he just falls asleep again (Suarez 2007, 106). Blake spends the course of the film slipping in and out of consciousness presumably due to a number of health factors such as his wound, lack of sleep and food. One scene which reflects his work is the scene of Nobody performing a ritual on Blake during the night while Blake is unconscious. In Nobody s trance like state the camera shows Blake s face is double exposed with the image of a skull (figure 1). This is a reference to Michaux s painting The Prince of Night of which depicts a figure with a skull like face sitting on a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. ISU Analysis One of the themes of the Jade Peony was the difficulty that the early Chinese immigrants had to face when they came to Canada in the late 1800s. Wong Suk is one of the early immigrants, believing there is a gold mountain that could make them rich. There had also been rumours of gold in the rivers that poured down those mountain cliffs, gold that could make a man and his family wealthy overnight. (pg 17). When he first arrived, he found out the gold mountain was only a lie, instead waiting for him is dangerous railroad work, a low paying job with only a few dollars left to send back to China every month, and never enough dollars to buy passage home. (pg 17). He also had to face a racist Canadian government, who passed the Chinese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The old people, Poh Poh and Wong Bak, never integrated into the Canadian Society, and were unable to accept the Canadian culture. They were deeply devoted to their native country and had to go back to China to die, as indicated by Wong Bak s parting words, bone must come to rest where they most belong (Choy Pg. 35). Adults such as Father and Stepmother were trying to fit into the new society and were ready to give up their Chinese ways. At the same time, adults like Stepmother easily became a prisoner who was trapped between two cultures. What does this White Demon want? said Stepmother, I could see she wished Suling were here, with her perfect English (Choy Pg. 140). The younger generations born in Vancouver, like Juk Liang and Sekky, were willing to become real Canadians. They hoped to be treated equally as the Canadian children, but even though they were born in Vancouver, they were still considered to be Chinese by other Canadians. The youths were distressed under the pressure of the older adults. The older generation said, you do not know Chinese, you are mo yung useless or mo nos no brain (Choy Pg. 135). Smart English not Smart Chinese (Choy Pg. 141) was another derogatory comment young Chinese Canadians had to endure. It was very hard to balance between their original identities and their chosen identities. For example Mrs. Lim asks Sek Lung: Who are you Sek Lung?... Are you tohng ... • 5. Meaning the Medium Is the Message What is the Meaning of The Medium is the Message? by Mark Federman Former Chief Strategist McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology a culture like ours, long accustomed to splitting and dividing all things as a means of control, it is sometimes a bit of a shock to be reminded that, in operational and practical fact, the medium is the message. This is merely to say that the personal and social consequences of any medium that is, of any extension of ourselves result from the new scale that is introduced into our affairs by each extension of ourselves, or by any new technology. (McLuhan, 1964, p. 7) Thus begins the classic work of Marshall McLuhan, Understanding Media, in which he introduced the world to his enigmatic paradox, The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the case of a specific theatrical production, its message may be a change in attitude or action on the part of the audience that results from the medium of the play itself, which is quite distinct from the medium of theatrical production in general. Similarly, the message of a newscast are not the news stories themselves, but a change in the public attitude towards crime, or the creation of a climate of fear. A McLuhan message always tells us to look beyond the obvious and seek the nonobvious changes or effects that are enabled, enhanced, accelerated or extended by the new thing. McLuhan defines medium for us as well. Right at the beginning of Understanding Media, he tells us that a medium is any extension of ourselves. Classically, he suggests that a hammer extends our arm and that the wheel extends our legs and feet. Each enables us to do more than our bodies could do on their own. Similarly, the medium of language extends our thoughts from within our mind out to others. Indeed, since our thoughts are the result of our individual sensory experience, speech is an outering of our senses we could consider it as a form of reversing senses whereas usually our senses bring the world into our minds, speech takes our sensorially shaped minds out to the world. But McLuhan always thought of a medium in the sense of a growing medium, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the state was a great fighting state in their time, the wars sort of formed the gladiatorial contest in ancient Rome. The Romans were fascinated and pleasured by violence, bloodshed, and human suffering the gladiatorial games. The gladiatorial contests began at the reign of their first emperor Augustus to pay tribute to their warrior traditions. The Romans built artificial battlefields within amphitheaters in cities and towns for public entertainment. It was then when officers of the state started producing the gladiatorial shows on a regular basis as a part of their job. Emperor Augustus restricted the gladiatorial games to two a year, limiting the aristocrats chances to receive the peoples vote for political offices. Each of the officials were forbidden to spend more on themselves than their associates. However, the emperor s rules were often broken by aristocrats due to the competitiveness of political power and prestige. Animals played a part in the gladiatorial shows also. In A.D. 108 9, Emperor Trajan gave games lasting 123 days containing 9,138 gladiators fought eleven thousand animals. In 169 B.C., sixty three African lions and leopards, forty bears, and several elephants were murdered in a single show. Romans then started to hunt new animals such as tigers, crocodiles, giraffes, lynxes, rhinoceros, and ostriches. Some shows involved hundreds of animals in one show. All of the animals were killed for entertainment. Gladiators were heroes to their culture. Even though most of the gladiators were slaves, women were attracted to them. But gladiators were also degraded by society. They were not allowed to be buried in normal burial grounds. Women also fought in gladiatorial games also. The women fought in the arena were men fought. An example of women fighting was found on a small stone relief, depicting two female gladiators, with one breast bare, called Amazon an Achillia. Sports ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Racial Discrimination Essay They say the government mislead the youth? Tell them that there, is the truth... Throughout the 20th century and continuing through the 21st century, the United States of America is now more diverse than it has ever been. While being more diverse than previously, minorities are continuously being portrayed as less than they are worth. Minorities have made significant strides towards equality in American society. The three examples media persuades individuals perception of other ethnic groups is through creating a perception that Caucasian is the standard beauty, misrepresentation of other races, and favoritism towards certain races in films. A tactic that media uses is by pushing the idea that being Caucasian is the standard of beauty. A prime example of the effect the media has on individuals is, The Doll Test . The Doll Test is an experiment which was conducted by doctors Kenneth and Mamie Clark in the 1940s. The experiment was conducted to study the psychological effects of segregation on African American children. The Clarks took a group of children between the ages of three and seven, and gave them two different dolls, which were identical except for their skin color goal of the experiment was to use four dolls which were identical excluding its skin color, to test children s racial perceptions. The Doctors then asked the following questions, Which doll is good? and Which doll is prettier? and Which do you want to play with? This experiment brought the idea of ... • 8. The Benefits Of Geothermal Energy Throughout history, society has been looking for ways to increase renewable energy to provide better resources to replace fossil fuels to reduce carbon footprints. The earth is a great source of natural energy therefore thermal energy is one of the most abundant resources. There are many types of renewable energy, such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat. Geothermal heat renewable energy converts natural heat into electricity resources. Geothermal energy represents the inner heat of the earth s core. Geothermal energy is mainly produced by decays of radioactive elements in the mantle and the center of the earth s layers. Heat is constantly flowing from the Earth center to the surface creating a great source of natural energy. These geothermal power plants drill wells into geothermal tanks to transfer hot water and steam from the earth s core to the surface. One great advantage of geothermal energy is that using the resources of water and steam, you are able to reuse and pump back the supplies into the ground. Another perk of using geothermal energy is that the energy is clean. Geothermal energy is environmental friendly because the power plants don t use fossil fuels. Some of the largest geothermal projects are located in Imperial Valley, California. It has eleven power plants built near the San Andreas Fault. • 13. Transportation and How it Affects Logistics Transportation is one of the largest industry in the world. It is the most costly and time consuming of the supply chain. Transportation refers to the movement of a product from one destination to another. This process begins from the supply chain to the consumer, for as we know that products are rarely produced in the same location. We as people depend on transportation. Because it moves our goods and it moves us as a people from one place to another. Transportation is a key element in the logistic chain. It joins together those components that are considered to be separated. In order for transportation and logistics to work together successfully there must be good management between them. It plays a major role in connecting it all together. Supply chain management is defined as a continuously evolving management philosophy that seeks to unify the collective productive competencies and resources of the business functions found both within the enterprise and outside in the firm s allied business partners located along intersecting supply channels into highly competitive, customer enriching supply system focused on developing innovative solutions and synchronizing the flow of marketplace products, services, and information to create unique, individualized sources of customer value (Ross, 1998). Liberalism And Realism In International Relations Many scholars have observed IR (International relations) through different theoretical lens throughout time, the two most debated on theoretical lens in international relation are liberalism and realism. Realism according to Korab Karpowicz is the view of international politics in which states are only concerned with there own self interest, security and struggle of power (Korab Karpowicz/2017). While on the other hand liberalism defined by John Ikenberry is the focus of society, interdependence and progressive change (Ikenberry 2009/pg.204 205).Although realism sees the world in a pessimistic view, it is the most powerful descriptor of IR. This essay will support the claim that realism has provided a more convincing description of IR through the analysis of power lust, self security and economic greed states have shown throughout time. However the essay will also entertain liberalist arguments through the view of interdependence and common interest. Whether it is the domination of one man over another or one state dominating another it has always been in human nature to seek power over others. Power lust is key in the understanding international relations. According to various realist scholars Of all people s evil ways, none are more prevalent or dangerous than their instinctive lust for power and their desire to dominate others (Kegley 2017/ pg.28). • 18. The Shean Use Of Sleep In Shakespeare s Sonnet 27 Shakespeare s Sonnet 27 describes how despite the speaker s physical exhaustion, he cannot sleep because his mind remains active with thoughts of his lover. In this sonnet, Shakespeare uses diction, imagery, and metaphor in order to express his complete devotion to his sweetheart. In the first quatrain, the speaker quickly attempts to sleep, saying he is with travel tired (2). The word travel indicates that the speaker wants to rest because he journeyed all day long, but the Shakespearean use of travel also holds the connotation of hard work or something painful. The speaker also begins to play off of this word choice by using imagery of traveling to convey how his active brain prevents him from falling asleep, saying But then begins a journey in my head / To work my mind, when body s work s expired (3 4). The image of a journey depicts the nature of the speaker s thoughts; random, trivial wonderings do not keep him awake, but rather, his mind focuses on a sole objective and continues along a distinct path. The use of the journey as a metaphor also implies that like the agony physically traveling creates, his wandering mind endures similarly grueling obstacles while trying to reach his destination. This comparison produces irony because although the speaker wants to sleep to escape the exhaustion of the day, he only encounters an equally strenuous burden. The second quatrain reveals the speaker s destination and further explores the hardship he meets on his metaphorical journey. The speaker continues the traveling imagery by saying his thoughts Intend a zealous pilgrimage to thee (6), with thee referring to his lover to whom he addresses the poem. The description of the pilgrimage as zealous further strengthens the parallels between literal travel and his thinking, illustrating the speaker s passionate feelings about his lover, and his determination to make the taxing journey indicates his complete devotion to his partner. The use of the word pilgrimage also intensifies this sense of devotion; because people often go on pilgrimages for religious place, the speaker describes his commitment to his lover as strong as one to religion. The speaker then introduces the image of darkness by saying, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
