`` Hard Boiled And `` Golden Age `` By Dashiell Hammett s...
While American and British authors developed the two distinct schools of detective fiction, known as
hard boiled and golden age, simultaneously, the British works served to continue traditions established
by earlier authors while American works formed their own distinct identity. Though a niche category,
detective works reflect the morality and culture of the societies their authors lived in. Written in the
time period after World War I, Dashiell Hammett s The Maltese Falcon and The Gutting of Couffignal
, and Raymond Chandler s Trouble Is My Business adapt their detectives to a new harsh reality of
urban life. In hard boiled works, the detective is more realistic than the detective in golden age works

Though this is a form of vigilante justice, it is necessitated by the urgency of the situation, at least in

As depicted in The Maltese Falcon, the city of San Francisco is characterized by the Alcatraz foghorn
s dull moaning and night fog, thin, clammy and penetrant, (11 12) both of which contribute to creating
an ominous mood. The succinct wording makes it clear that San Francisco is a cold, dark city, and the
allusion to its famous prison serves to reinforce how prevalent crime is in its society. The city is not
only the place where the crimes occur, but an active participant in the novel: G.K. Chesterton
comments on how the eyes of a great city, like the eyes of a cat, begin to flame in the dark (385).
Responding to this cold, dark atmosphere, even Sam Spade s physical characteristics seem harsh and
sinister he is described as long and bony and had the look of a blond satan (3). A curious way to
describe the supposed protagonist of the novel. Because of the difficult world he lives in, Spade is
reluctant to trust others, yet he is fiercely loyal to his clients and his sense of professionalism. When
he discovers that Brigid killed his former partner, he must turn her in. He explains that when a man s
partner is killed he s supposed to do something about it. [...] I m a detective and expecting me to run

Multiple Deployments
Given the need for highly trained personnel in Afghanistan and Iraq region s, military personnel are
being asked to do multiple tours in the region and to stay for extended periods of time while on tours.
While this approach has produced a highly trained fighting force it has also exposed military
personnel to increased traumatic exposure and exposure at a much higher rate than previous Veteran
populations. With multiple deployments becoming a normal part of one s military experience it s
important for clinicians to be aware and trained on the mental health implications associated with
multiple and longer deployments.

Justice Is Thrasymachus The Stronger
At the beginning of the debate on what justice is; Thrasymachus shoves himself into the dialogue to
say that justice is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger (Plato 14 [I]). In the state, a ruler is
considered the stronger, therefore what is advantageous to them is just. The laws made to be beneficial
to the ruler are just, so it is just for their subjects to follow these rules and if they disobey it is
considered unjust. This can be said since we can assume that the ruler is the strongest in any situation.
When asked if rulers can make mistakes, Thrasymachus agrees. In relation to the last statement, if a
ruler was to create a law in error, hence the law is disadvantageous to the ruler, and the subjects
followed this law, justice is served on one part. However, since the law is disadvantageous to the ruler,
it would be unjust. The other interlocutors interpret Thrasymachus statement to mean that what is just
is what the ruler believes to be advantageous to themselves since it was agreed upon that the ruler of
the state is the stronger. Thrasymachus, angry with this conclusion, clarifies his agreement to: A ruler,
insofar as he is a ruler, never makes errors and unerringly decrees what is best for ... Show more

Based on his view of justice, injustice rules the truly simple and just, and those it rules do what is to
the advantage of the other and stronger, and they make the one they serve happy, but themselves not at
all (Plato 19 [I]). Thrasymachus stands to say that injustice commands the weak who obey and serve
and benefit the stronger, while they do not benefit at all. Injustice serves those who are unjust, while
those who just do not benefit from being just. He concludes, therefore, that it is more favorable to be
unjust, rather than just. This stands to question why the weaker would be just if they do not profit from

The Declaration Of Independence From Great Britain
In 1776, the United States continental congress ratified the Declaration of Independence from Great
Britain. Following the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation,
the next few years displayed a great amount of progression for the protection of the American citizen
by implementing the United States Constitution. The first three articles of the Constitution focused on
the division of power between the President and Congress, which comprised of the House of
Representatives and Senate. Since the Constitution s establishment, the issue of who has what certain
war powers has maintained in the spotlight. The Constitution is notoriously misunderstood because of

415). In 1973 Congress adopted the War Powers Resolution in attempt to rein the President in and
consult with Congress when it came to taking any action when introducing troops to hostile regions.
There have been a number of President s who have used their executive power to move U.S. troops
into countries of a hostile nature that were of no immediate threat to the U.S. homeland. President
Wilson sent troops to Vera Cruz during the Mexican Revolution, President Carter sent aid in the form
of helicopters to hostages in Iran, and President Clinton bombed both Iraq and Serbia (Currie, Pg. 41).
Most of those actions leaned towards more of a humanitarian effort, rather than a deliberate attack on
U.S. national security.
The current U.S. President, Barack Obama, has continued this humanitarian and moral trend with the
use of U.S. military force in Libya and Syria. However, both events are very much different in seeking
the approval or consultation by Congress given their political context. In 2011, Libyan leader
Muammar Gaddafi, had come under the international spotlight as a major threat to the citizens of
Libya. Given Libya s location centered amongst several Arab states, there was much at stake for U.S.
interest. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the United Nations also backed the U.S.

The Interpretation Of Oppression By Marilyn Frye
Nikky Xiong Feminist Philosophy Nancy Bauer Oct 12th, 2015 The Interpretation of Oppression
Women and men are born equal. However, females are receiving unequal judgement and unfair
treatment in the society, and thus Marilyn Frye brings up the notion of oppression , claiming that
women are oppressed. Throughout the essay, I will first give the definition of Frye s oppression and
then list 5 critical qualifications to be considered oppressed. After that, I will explain my appreciation
on Frye s perspective on elaborating oppression using the bird cage analogy. I will support Frye s
double bind argument for sexism followed by flaws in the argument. Furthermore, I will point out
some social group are mistakenly placed inside or outside the parameters of oppression, once the
theory of oppression extends over other marginal groups. Given the definition of oppression as a
system of interrelated barriers and forces which mold , immobilize , and reduce a certain group of
people, and affect their subordination to another group (Frye 4), Frye lists out five premises in order to
be considered oppressed. First of all, the group of people must be restricted. In other words, there must
be limitations or barriers on them. For example, women make 78 cents for every dollar earned by men
(Kessler 1). Second, those restrictions surely cause harm, which must outweigh any potential benefits
oppressed groups experience as a result of those same restrictions (Gillingham 1). For

Advantages Of Virtual Reality
The first one and half decade of 21st century has seen significant, rapid advancement in the
development of electric device technology. The large size PCs turns into the small size and eventually
laptop are covering majority market. Inn this duration, small and highly powerful mobile technologies,
has exploded while prices steadily become lower and lower. The rise of smartphones and device like
Google Glass with high density displays and 3D graphics capabilities has allows this new technology
called virtual reality.
What is Virtual Reality?

For example in our childhood, we learned we have five senses: taste, touch, smell, sight, and hearing.
However, the fact that humans have lots of other senses than this, such as a sense of balance for
example. This other sensory input ensures that we have an abundant flow of information from the
environment to our minds.
Therefore, we can say that our entire experience of reality is nothing but a combination of sensory
information and our brains sense making mechanisms for that particular information. It stands to
reason then, that if you can present your senses with given information, your perception of reality
would also change in response to it.
Use of Virtual Reality technology:
Today there are many applications use virtual reality which mainly include fields like Architecture,
Sport, Medicine, the Arts and surely an entertainment where we can see considerable growth in the
recent time.
Today many big companies like Samsung, HTC and Google are creating virtual products. You will
find that there are many mobile app development companies are doing Virtual Reality Application

The Radical Period of The French Revolution Essay
The Radical Period of The French Revolution
By the end of 1971, Europe was preparing to witness the end of a seemingly triumphant revolution in
France. The country was restructuring its government in a forceful and bloodless manner, while the
tyrant King
Louis the XVI agreed to the demands of the masses (albeit without much choice). However, due to the
fanatical aspirations of men such as Danton,
Marat and Robespierre,it would be only a matter of months before the moderate stage of social and
political reform was transformed into a radical phase of barbaric and violent force. In their quest for
freedom, equality and fraternity, the leaders of the Jacobins inadvertently turned the revolution into an
oligarchic dictatorship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moderate forces preferred to concentrate on the foreign affairs of new France, but the radicals insisted
on domestic stability first. Led by the popular
Danton and the merciless Marat, the Paris Commune discarded the old constitution and called for a
National Convention to begin work on a new, revised version.
The National Convention, divided by the moderate Girondins and the radical Jacobins, was the place
where the future of the country was to be eventually determined. It was the premise of the Jacobins
that they should eradicate the enemy within and secure the destiny of the revolution through the
destruction of counter revolutionary forces. They believed that by weeding out those who opposed the
revolution, they could achieve their goals quickly and efficiently. The Girondins were not so quick to
agree with the Jacobins, and so political deadlock begin to form in the
Convention. It was not until after the September massacres, when 1200 prisoners were executed
without trials, that Robespierre and his followers were able to justify their premise. They condemned
the actions of the unruly mobs that caused the deaths of innocent Frenchmen and demanded that the
Monarchy be abolished in order to eliminate as many of the royalists and monarchists that still
remained. It was Marat with his want 100,000 heads to fall speeches that convinced the masses that
those who were not in favour of the revolution had to be dealt with immediately

Planning And Scheduling Process Of Construction Sector Essay
LITERATURE REVIEW
Planning and scheduling process of construction sector has been undergoing various research since
1950s. The planning and scheduling processes for construction can be broadly classified into two
categories 1. Activity based planning methodologies and 2. Location based planning methodologies.
The activity based methodology is further subdivided as deterministic (Critical path method) and
probabilistic method (Program Evaluation and Review Technique). While location based
methodologies can be subdivided into unit production and location production.
Activity based scheduling methodology was developed in 1950s. The planning is done in construction
process by using network of activities in this methodology.
Location based methodology is based on the tracking of the crews working at various production
tasks. These techniques are adopted using various graphical methods. This technique was used as a
construction management system at the empire states building developed by goodyear company.
These techniques are widely adopted in continuous production facilities.it was considered that this
methodology requires repetition of activities and hence known as repetitive scheduling method
(RSM).
While this method is more concerned about movement o resources through various locations and
activities need not to be repetitive for adoption of this method. So rather than repetition this
methodology concentrates on tasks which are aggregated activities over various locations.

Jungian Psychological Profiles in Glenngarry Glen Ross Essay
Glengarry Glen Ross: A Jungian Perspective David Mamet wrote the play Glengarry Glen Ross as a
look into the world of sales. As with most of his work, capitalism and its effect on the actors is a major
theme. Stories as they are written have characters that have different roles based on their personalities
and behaviors. This assignment of roles is something that has spanned the history of literary works.
Carl Jung, Swiss psychiatrist and the founder of analytical psychology explained these roles people
assume and their meaning. The term he used to refer to these character descriptions is called
archetypes. All of the characters in the play have problems. Most of these are based in personality
flaws and a lack of moral character. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

himself to the consequences. Coupled with the shadow we see Levene exemplify the persona. This
archetype is described as a symbol of the protective cover or mask. (Jung 287) Levene acts in a
manner while on the in the office with a co workers client that is a full flight from reality. He acts like
he is a vice president of American Express and travels the world. This is a ruse he jumps into with no
preparation and pulls it off beautifully. This mask he uses whether to deceive his clients, himself, or
others, is his persona. It is dishonest from its onset. This core dishonesty is how the shadow archetype
is manifesting in his psyche. Just like the vicious cycle with the leads here we see the cycle of his
dishonesty in every aspect of his work life being transmitted into the shadow archetype, his
subconscious now makes instinctual decisions from a negative jumping off place. The more he
participates in this pattern the deeper the pathology sets in him. To round out this character we can
apply the scapegoat archetype. The scapegoat archetype is defined as the one who gets blamed for
everything, regardless of whether he or she is actually at fault. (Essortment) Sure he is to blame for the

The White Australia Policy, The Racist Country Its...
Australia is not, and never has been, the racist country its academic historians have condemned
Critically analyse the white Australia policy relating it to the quote provided
In 1901, Edmund Barton the prime minster at time decided to introduce the Immigration Restriction
Act left Australia banning prostitutes, criminals, and anyone under a contract or agreement to perform
manual labour within Australia which seems that Edmund Barton was doing his job and kept Australia
safe but he was not. This is because, he did not stop there, he introduced a dictation test to exclude
certain people by making them sit a written exam that they need to pass to be welcome in Australia
voted by an immigration officer and majority of the non white people was given the answer no you are
not welcome here. Many of prime ministers were involved in this as it ended in 1973. The quote
Australia is not, and never has been, the racist country its academic historians have been condemned is
most certainly incorrect between the years 1901 to 1973 as the majority of people were not allowed to
enter Australia if they were non white people. The reasons proving that Australia was indeed a racist
country include the reasons why the white Australia policy was introduced, immigration and the way
other countries saw Australia.
The reasons why the white Australia policy was introduced is why Australia was awfully racist.

Context
The word amphora derives from the Greek amphi (on both sides) and phoros (carrier). They are
terracotta vases of variable size with two vertical handles, by which they are carried on both sides,
designed for the transport and storage of liquids (principally olive oil and wine). They could be
painted on their bellies (as in this case).
A large portion of Athenian pottery was produced by the Group of Haimon and the Leafless Group,[1]
and was carried thence to ports around the Mediterranean. The rest was produced for local use,
specifically mixing, storing and transporting wine and oil.
Attic pottery was valued in the sanctuaries of the Etruscans, where they had additional roles: cultic
ritual, banqueting and votive offerings. These vases were bought specially for a given occasion and
signified a dedication to a divinity. Generally, Attic cups were common while amphorae were rare.

Our culture is more shaped by the arts and humanities than it often is by politics. Jim Leach
The unique mechanics of patterns and paradigms which unites and divides us as part of the human

Darwin s Theory On Evolution
Darwin s theory on Evolution Evolution is the belief that all living forms including humans came from
ancient ancestors. Evolution is what makes life possible. It allows organisms to adapt to the
environment as it changes. In Biology, theory of evolution does not tell us how life began on earth, but
it helps us understand how life came into existence, diversified in many forms on earth, and fossil
records. Scientists have many theories on evolution. One of the theories suggests all the healthy
species can reproduce but they do so imperfectly. Small variations can build up over generations to
create dramatic differences in the body form and function of living creature, called biological
evolution. Evidence overwhelmingly suggests that all life on earth is related. Charles Robert Darwin,
an English naturalist and geologist, established that all species of life on earth have descended over
time from common ancestors. In 1859, Darwin released his theory of evolution in The Origin of
Species. Darwin presents his idea that species evolved through process called Nature Selection.
Charles Darwin says:
Thus, from the war of nature, from famine and death, the most exalted object which we are capable of
conceiving, namely, the production of the higher animals, directly follows. There is grandeur in this
view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and

The Importance Of A Hydroponics And Aquaculture Gardening...
Investigation and Planning
When contemplating multiple concepts, I ended up deciding that my topic for my personal project is
building and maintaining an aquaponics garden. An aquaponics garden is the combination of
hydroponics and aquaculture. These terms simply refer to the soil less growing of plants, and the
raising and growing of fish in one system. Hydroponics and aquaculture combine together to creating
a single, thriving ecosystem. Aquaculture raises the fish that eventually become large enough to be
consumed by humans for nutritional value, and the gill bearing aquatic animals provide the waste that
the plants use as fertilizer. The soil less growing of plants means to use gravel and the water combined

Scientific and technical innovation is the global context that most precisely describes my topic. When
adopting the challenge of a fully functioning ecosystem, I questioned myself as to why I would want
to do this. What came to my mind constantly was the reoccurring thought of wanting to help the
environment. This subcategory explains that the impact of scientific advances is major on the
environment, and this was the original peak of my interest on my topic. The ability to make my own
ecosystem with the new advances stops the growing of weeds, the attack of pests on plants, and back
pain from gardening, Scientific innovation has eliminated the hassle of gardening, in essence.
My prior knowledge on this topic and influences are extensive. My father first thought of wanting to
create a project he could do in his free time. He ended up pulling me into the task, and we thought of
an aquaponics garden. We both were infatuated with the idea, having both a heavy interest in the
science and agricultural field. The topic explored the depths of both of our minds and our interests.
This influenced me by thinking of how I could modify this project. This time I would do it on my own
and make a smaller model. Prior to creating my miniature model, I knew what materials would be
needed. Also, the knowledge of how

How To Use Leisure And Leisure Activities That Influenced...
Throughout the course of one s life, there are many life events and transitions, both normative and
unexpected that influence and shape the course of one s life and what leisure choices they make. This
can be applied to my own life timeline, as there are many events and leisure activities I can think back
on that shaped me into the person I am today. The purpose of this paper is to reflect on my past and
present lifestyle and experiences, and then analyze them using theories and models existing in leisure
studies. Leisure and recreation played a large role in my life growing up, and from a young age my
mother put a strong emphasis on being involved in community life to both myself and my sisters. My
parents were huge factors in my socialization into leisure and were very involved in my leisure all
growing up. Much of this leisure was very family oriented such as camping, and hiking. My mother
made sure we spent as much time together as a family outdoors; which as a result, created a
substantial amount of family cohesiveness (West Marriam, 2009), creating strong bonds and a loving
support system that I am still thankful for today. However, when I was a teenager, my mother
developed a chronic illness which disabled her from being able to go camping or go on hikes for more
than an hour or two. As well, my father began to age and suffer from arthritis, a disease that creates

Abstract
This paper will discuss the history of the canine dog. This paper will also discuss the different breeds
of the canine and its purposes. This paper focuses on the training, handling, and the overall care of the
canine by the police or other agencies involving canines.
Increased juvenile delinquency and engagement in crime has been an issue of concern to many parents
and the authority in general. Although juvenile crimes have been there even in the past, they have been
increasing at an alarming rate and the intensity of crimes committed has also increased. However the
criminal justice system has set ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example in some cases individuals are sentenced to a term of participation in boot camps for about
90 to 180 days which can substitute a jail term of about 10 years. However the equation of boot camp
term and the jail term substituted usually varies with the boot camp facility and the state. In case
juvenile offenders are not wiling to serve in boot camps, then they are compelled to serve their jail
term. Therefore participation in boot camps is not compulsory and individuals can prefer to serve their
original jail term instead. (Cowles, 2005)
The first boot camp was opened in the United States in Georgia and Oklahoma around 1983. The
initial set of the boot camps was to maximize the rate of deterrence, reduce the crowding in juvenile
prison, to decrease the cost of penal and the correction system, and in order to reduce the rate of
recidivism. Boot camps were however supposed to find a middle ground between restrictive prison
system and the less strict probation. Boot camps are therefore less restrictive than the system in
prisons and harsher than the system in probation.
In the recent past, there had been some disquiet from some parents and juveniles about their life in
juvenile camps. It is argued that some boots camps have been exposing juvenile to harsh military
training exposing them to various dangers which they may not be prepared for. For example in 2006,
boot camps were banned in Florida following the death of Lee Anderson

The Life and Works of Bertolt Brecht Essay
The Life and Works of Bertolt Brecht
In this essay I will consider the life and works of Bertolt Brecht, the famous theatre practitioner who
has had such a dramatic impact on our understanding of the theatre and acting. First of all I will give a
biography of Brecht because it is important to know the background of his life in order to understand
the motives he had for writing and producing plays in the way he did. We will see a direct correlation
between events in his life and the plays and techniques that he propagated. I will then move to explore
the methods and techniques that Brecht developed, looking at how they came about and who
influenced his work. I will look at Brecht s theory of Epic theatre, tracing the beginnings ... Show

He was studying medicine but his real interests were in drama and the theatre. During the war he was
posted as a nurse in an army hospital near his home thereby escaping the horrors of the front line. He
was dealing with severely wounded soldiers and this shocked him to the realities of death and made
him see the futility of war, something that rallied him to fight for peace through his political plays.
After the war Brecht went to Munich to find work in the theatre and then on to Berlin, where he
stayed. He quickly got to know the main actors and directors of the time and soon became involved in
directing and performing. He gathered a group of friends who worked with him and on his behalf, thus
began his habit of collaborating with others.
In the 1920 s Brecht married Helene Weigel who remained his wife for the rest of his life. He also
wrote these three plays: Drums in the
Night, In The Jungle of the Cities and Baal. Each of these plays was directed by leading directors at
the time and they attracted al lot of scandal because of the provoking content and new style. He also
undertook his first collaboration with the composer Kurt Weill in
Mahogonny and then The Threepenny Opera, which was immensely popular and firmly established
him as a leading playwright and theatre practitioner. He started to develop his

The Power of Habit
First off, we are creatures. We are animals. We re very sophisticated and good looking and all that, but
let s never forget that we re made of flesh and blood. In particular, our brains are incredibly complex
evolved machines. Our brains govern basic processes such as breathing and food intake, and also
enable us to appreciate the finer points of John Cleese s performances in Fawlty Towers.
As creatures, we have needs. We need to eat, and so we eat. As rather intelligent and social creatures,
we like to chat with one another, and so we do. We take turns and finish our conversations gracefully.
And there are dozens and dozens more behaviors that are just as complicated, if not more so. How on
Earth do we get all of this done?
That s where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No writer feels like he is writing enough. We all watch too much television, spend too much time on
Facebook, or waste our writing time doing other things. For beginning writers, the problem is
especially acute. With no editor giving a deadline, no fans clamoring for the next installment, and no
writing income, there is literally no incentive to write at least not consistently. Beginners might write
when they are inspired, but with so many other things pulling them away from the writing desk, how
can they stick with it for the months and years it takes to carve out a writing career?
On the other hand, most professional writers write every day. Not because they are inspired more
often, not because they have more free time, and not because they are neglecting other parts of their
lives. Pros write every day for one simple yet powerful reason. They ve made it a habit.
We tend to think of habits as bad (smoking, cussing, biting your fingernails) but they can also be good
(walking the dog, oatmeal for breakfast, a weekly date with your spouse). THE POWER OF HABIT
shows how easily habits form. They rely on three simple things a cue, a routine, and a reward and don
t take long to stick. Our brains love habits. They allow us to be efficient. They help us do things like
drive a car without constant self monitoring. Once we learn where the brake pedal is and how hard to

Antonio Bernini Research Paper
There were two Italian artists in two different time periods but artistic styles paralleled one another,
Gian Lorenzo Bernini of the Baroque movement and Antonio Canova of the Neoclassicism
movement.
Gian Lorenzo Bernini was a Baroque sculptor and created Apollo and Daphne (c. 1622 25) that
displayed in Rome s Villa Borghese. Made of Carrera marble, and is 243 cm and 96 inches (Bernini).
It s a mythological story of the God Apollo and his pursuit of Daphne but she, was an unwilling
participant who prayed to her father Peneus to transform her into a laurel tree. Bernini carved a life
like action was sensual. Both characters faces are visible from the side. Daphne s silhouette, torso, and

(MITLibraries DOME).
Canova s Cupid and Psyche depicted the image of two lovers in an embrace. Although this is more in
line with the Rococo style, the emotion, and real love between a man and a woman displayed and
detailed by Psyche s arms around Cupid s head and Cupid s arms around Psyche covering her breasts.
Audiences praised Bernini for his attention to detail, carving pieces to look life like. Apollo and
Daphne s expressive faces and bodies were original and Apollo s love for Daphne and his tenacity to
keep pursuing her even though he knew she didn t feel the same. Canova had the ability to capture a
dramatic moment in Cupid and Psyche s embrace as well as the love they had for one another, the
determination to go whatever it took as long as they were together shows contrast between both

The Charge of the Light Brigade and Attack Essay
The Charge of the Light Brigade and Attack The Charge of the light Brigade by Alfred Lord Tennyson
and Attack by Siegfried Sassoon are two very dissimilar poems. Both of them are on the same topic of
war but have many contrasts in how they treat the subject matter, war. The main difference between
these two poems is the audience that they were written for. Tennyson, as poet laureate, was written for
public reading, but Sassoon s work which showed more emotion and feeling, was therefore more of a
private poem. The poems tone and mood are very different. Tennyson s poem is a triumphant,
victorious and celebratory poem. This is because the Victorians did not want to read about defeat, as it

While time ticks blank on their busy wrists. The language in the two poems is different. The poets use
different literary terms. Tennyson begins his poem by using anaphora in the opening lines, Half a
league, half a league, half a league onward. Anaphora is the repetition of certain words or words to
obtain a rhythmic pattern. In this historic war, the men charged at the enemy guns on horseback, so
this repetition in Tennyson s opening lines could be associated with the sound of galloping horses.
Tennyson uses this again when he writes, Cannon to the right of them, Cannon to the left of them,
Cannon in front of them. Tennyson also uses rhetorical questions in his poem, for example, Was there
a man dismay d? and When can their glory fade? These are questions to which no answer is required,
and add dramatic effect to the poem. Then he uses the phrase, The Valley of Death, to describe the
valley in which the charge took place. This phrase is taken from the Bible ( Psalm 23). In other
translations of the Bible ( The Good News Bible), it is translated as, the deepest darkness . Tennyson
uses it with dramatic effect as if the men were ordered to go into the deepest darkness to charge down
the cannons. During the Victorian period of history the Bible would have been important to the
Victorian people and so the poem appealed to their cultural knowledge. Tennyson also uses other

the issues with marriage that people had to face and still face in certain places in today s society. There

Disclosure Of Leases On Company Financial Statements
In 1949 the AICPA released ARB No. 38 over the disclosure of leases on company financial
statements. Before this bulletin it was not normal for the lessee to disclose the fact that the company
was in a contract long term lease of an asset. The Accounting Institute of Certified Public Accountants
felt that investors and other decision making personnel should have the right to know about leases in
which a company was contractually bound. The committee states in this bulletin that when it clearly
evident that the lessee will have ownership of the asset after all payments are made, that the lessee
should account for this in the assets and liabilities of the company s Balance Sheet. The committee
believes that the AICPA issued the opinion that all long term leases should be disclosed in the
financial statements or the footnotes. These disclosures include the payment amounts and other
obligations assumed not only in the year in which they occurred but any material amounts in the life
of the lease. (Committee on Accounting Procedure, American Institute of Accountants, 1949)
Although, the main point of this bulletin was to address long term leases, the AICPA never formally
defines what it means by a long term lease which can be assumed to be what modern day accounting
defines as a capital lease. The purpose of the bulletin was not to address short term leases (now called
operating leases) because there was no exchange of rights in these situations. Although the above
opinion was

Construction Industry Council ( Cic )
Steel has been one of the key materials for a modern society from the past to these days, while its
manufacture is one of the main contributors of carbon emission in the world. In order to drive the
construction industry to apply more sustainable materials, Construction Industry Council (CIC) has
launched a voluntary and Hong Kong based Carbon Labelling Scheme for Construction Materials
covering Cement, Reinforcing Bar, and Structural Steel. Steel, being a very significant material in
building industry in Hong Kong, has a considerable carbon footprint throughout its life cycle.
There are two different routes of steel making, Basic Oxygen Steelmaking (BOS) and Electric Arc
Furnace Steelmaking (EAS).
Basic Oxygen Steelmaking is a primary steelmaking method, in which convert carbon rich molten pig
iron into steel due to oxidizing action. Oxygen was blown into the melt under a basic slag. It is the
most powerful and effective steel making method. The converter used for steel making is called as
Basic Oxygen Furnace. There is about 67% of steel in the world is produced using Basic Oxygen
Steelmaking. The process of Basic Oxygen Steelmaking was developed in 1948 by Robert Durrer and
commercialized in 1952 1953 by Austrian VOEST and ÖAMG. The modern furnace takes a charge of
up to 350 tons iron and converts it into steel within 40 minutes.
The advantage of using Basic Oxygen Steelmaking is cost efficient, as it doesn t burn fuel. However,
it requires the separate creation of

Diesel s revenue not only came from making jeans it also came from producing products like wine,
cars, fragrances, sun glasses, shoes, and watches.
Does True Religion enjoy a competitive advantage in the segment? If so, is its advantage sustainable?
I would say that True Religion enjoy a competitive advantage in the segment because this was a
company that had been through a slowdown in sales then rose then fell again. Within the times of
falling revenue the company still managed to develop strategies so that it wouldn t end up like other
companies such as rock amp; republic that filed for bankruptcy. Even when this brand first started out
it had a competitive advantage over 7 for all mankind that only offered 2 basic styles of jeans, True
Religion offered 5 styles. Then overtime True Religion became one of the highest priced on the
market with an average selling point of $196 for woman s jeans and $192 for men s jeans in 2009 .
This gives give the True Religion brand jeans the sustainability that it needs to stay ahead. Another
advantage it had over its competitors is the use of off price retailers such as Nordstrom rack and its
outlet stores which lead to slow moving and obsolete inventory . True Religion s was able to sustain
exclusive third party distributors to gain access to upscale retailers in foreign markets. They did this

Accepting Gifts From The Clients

Introduction
The receiving and giving gifts especially in health care is considered to be more ethically sensitive
issue (Oak, 2005). Therefore, I decided to focus on the issue of accepting gifts from the clients in the
health services because I am a nurse by profession and I usually come across with this issue. In my
opinion, it is a debatable question that whether the professionals accept gifts or not and it is
controversial. It varies from discipline to discipline and person to person perspectives (Krassner,

More than that, gifts can be modest such as a music CD or flowers or even more expensive items like

timing, content, frequency, intention of the giver, insight of the receiver and its effect on the giver,
receiver or anyone else who may affected by the gift giving (Zur, 2007; Caddell Hazelton, 2013 ).
Gifts are common in the termination session, and a gift at the early stage of therapy need more
consideration (Zur, 2012). In my reading I have found that, there are three general categories of gifts.
First one, gift is considered as a tip to the professional who have a good personalized service in the
restaurant or a health professional providing care that is beyond the call of duty . Second one, gifts are
given to address the perceived imbalance in the professional relationship. Third one, gift act as a
sacrifice or respect to the professional such as signing in the forms for the specific benefit to the client
(Gerig, 2014). These gifts mostly represent gratitude and appreciation. Sometimes, gift may given as
way of manipulating or influence the person such as extra care, spent extra time with the client and so
on (Cornock, 2011). In fact, gift giving being a quite common practice in clinical settings (Anderson,
2011). I read in the article that, gift giving is a form of communication. Apart from that, gift giving

Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee Essay
The way that people understand their circumstances and surroundings is often directly correlated to
the way they perceive the world around them. An adult understands much more around him than a
child does because of the mature, more knowledgeable perception he has. Meanwhile, the child, while
not able to fully understand what she sees, often sees more than an adult because of the knowledge
hungry, curious perception she has. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, the characters range in gender,
age, and intelligence. The narrator herself is a young elementary age child. She is extremely smart for
her age, but because of her limited exposure to the world, does not fully understand the seriousness
and danger of the story unfolding around her. While the book To Kill a Mockingbird covers many
controversial topics, perception and the change certain characters undergo that effects this perception
are the key to connecting many of them. One of the main characters in Too Kill a Mockingbird is Jem.
He is Scout s older brother. As the story is told, he ages, transitioning from a young boy into a
teenager. His perception of the world around him changes vastly as he ages, leaving curiosity behind
for a better understanding. At the beginning of the story, the reader is introduced to the unseen
character of Boo Radley. According to the adults around town, he is a recluse who never leaves his
home. However, Jem, Scout, and their friend Dill see him in a different light. Jem

Jenny Sullivan s First Love
The poem First Love by Mick Gowar describes the affect that first love has. Rejection by Jenny
Sullivan details the shame that rejection brings.
The title First Love links to a sense of naivety and innocence. It suggests that the poem may be
romantic and meaningful.
On the other hand, the title Rejection instantly signifies a negative atmosphere and implies that the
poem may be an elegy, as it could be exploring the darker, more sorrowful side of one s mind.
Whilst the poems share some similarities, they do not have many ideas or themes in common. First
Love includes themes such as desperation and naivety. These can be identified throughout the poem.

These themes help create a reflective mood with the feeling of shame also prevalent. This poem seems
to be challenging popular belief as the first line is Rejection is orange . This is shocking as one would
usually assume rejection to be grey and nondescript . Isolation is highlighted here, as it suggests that
they stand out, thus making them feel alone, a point which is repeated a couple of lines later, in which
they describe themselves as a council worker s jacket . This point is where I began to sense a link to
mental illness as the jacket is used to represent a public symbol of shame, much like the way mental
illness is viewed in society. This idea is illuminated again in the last quatrain where they describe
themselves as feeling slightly leftover after all the guests/have gone. This links back to the theme of
isolation and also links to the ideas of low self worth and mental illness. Paranoia can also be
identified through descriptions of people whispering behind my back , this again links to mental
illness as many sufferers attempt concealing

Qualitative Analysis Autism
Children who have pragmatic language impairments often have difficulty with language
comprehension, telling stories and participating in conversations. This typically leads to further
problems fitting in with their peers, making friends and being successful within a classroom. There
has been a lot of research regarding effective treatments for improving social skills for students with
autism. One barrier to drawing conclusions about optimal treatments for children with autism is the
use of highly varied dependent measures in the treatment literature (Cunningham, 2012, p.1). The
study conducted by Cunningham focuses on reviewing previous studies on this topic and addressing
variables important in the development and the measures taken within those studies. The studies used
assessed social interaction skills in young children with autism through a focus on various related

Emotion Coaching and Children with Oppositional Defiant Disorder
Children who consistently display behavioral problems in the home and within a social context
(Dunsmore, Booker, Ollendick, 2013) characterize oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). According to
Dunsmore, Booker, and Ollendick (2013), the widespread cases for ODD are 1 percent to 13 percent
in children at the age of 6 17 years (p. 444). Children with ODD have frequent explosive episodes of
opposition, disputation, and antagonist behaviors that upset intercommunications with like aged
children, their own parents, and siblings (Dunsmore, et. al., 2013). Other evidence of ODD involves
rage, quick agitation, and becoming nasty or revengeful (Dunsmore, Booker, Ollendick, Greene,
2016). Oppositional defiant disorder links these children with the incapability to express feelings,
connect and manage intimate relationships, and work within a team environment (Dunsmore, et. al.,
2013). Children displaying behavioral problems lack the parental emotional communication called
emotion coaching than mothers of children without conduct problems (Dunsmore, et. al., 2013, p.
445). However, once mothers of children with ODD undertake emotion coaching, then positive
connections with others appear to surface for these children (Dunsmore, et. al., 2013). Therefore,
integrating methods for parental emotion coaching with evidence based treatment programs for
troublesome behavioral disorders are likely to ameliorate

Beginning next year, I plan on double majoring in Environmental Science and Biology, and I want a
career in Conservation and/or Biodiversity. YCC is an ideal opportunity because it enables me to
involve myself in activities oriented towards my career. Because I am dually enrolled in my high
school and Western Kentucky University, I have benefitted from many opportunities to discover my
passions and pursue Biology. I am currently involved in Undergraduate Biology Research and have
completed several biology courses ranging from Anatomy and Physiology to Evolutionary Biology
and Biodiversity in Costa Rica. Because of my favorable academic circumstances, I have had many
opportunities in the field of biology, but I have obtained fewer experiences in Environmental issues.
However, I am still passionate about the environment, and especially lifestyle changes that would
reduce detriments to the Earth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I loved experiencing the daily life of a biologist at the National Parks I visited. In Costa Rica, I
worked with the endangered Leatherback Sea Turtles, Butterfly Biodiversity, and Oak Reforestation
efforts in Cloudbridge Nature Reserve. I would love to grow my passion and knowledge of
Conservation and preserving the environment by working Yellowstone National Park. I love traveling
and visiting new places. While I have certainly learned of Yellowstone previously, I have yet to
experience the park for myself. I hope to extend my love and experience in Conservation to

  • 2. `` Hard Boiled And `` Golden Age `` By Dashiell Hammett s... While American and British authors developed the two distinct schools of detective fiction, known as hard boiled and golden age, simultaneously, the British works served to continue traditions established by earlier authors while American works formed their own distinct identity. Though a niche category, detective works reflect the morality and culture of the societies their authors lived in. Written in the time period after World War I, Dashiell Hammett s The Maltese Falcon and The Gutting of Couffignal , and Raymond Chandler s Trouble Is My Business adapt their detectives to a new harsh reality of urban life. In hard boiled works, the detective is more realistic than the detective in golden age works according to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though this is a form of vigilante justice, it is necessitated by the urgency of the situation, at least in the mind of the Op. As depicted in The Maltese Falcon, the city of San Francisco is characterized by the Alcatraz foghorn s dull moaning and night fog, thin, clammy and penetrant, (11 12) both of which contribute to creating an ominous mood. The succinct wording makes it clear that San Francisco is a cold, dark city, and the allusion to its famous prison serves to reinforce how prevalent crime is in its society. The city is not only the place where the crimes occur, but an active participant in the novel: G.K. Chesterton comments on how the eyes of a great city, like the eyes of a cat, begin to flame in the dark (385). Responding to this cold, dark atmosphere, even Sam Spade s physical characteristics seem harsh and sinister he is described as long and bony and had the look of a blond satan (3). A curious way to describe the supposed protagonist of the novel. Because of the difficult world he lives in, Spade is reluctant to trust others, yet he is fiercely loyal to his clients and his sense of professionalism. When he discovers that Brigid killed his former partner, he must turn her in. He explains that when a man s partner is killed he s supposed to do something about it. • 3. Multiple Deployments Given the need for highly trained personnel in Afghanistan and Iraq region s, military personnel are being asked to do multiple tours in the region and to stay for extended periods of time while on tours. While this approach has produced a highly trained fighting force it has also exposed military personnel to increased traumatic exposure and exposure at a much higher rate than previous Veteran populations. With multiple deployments becoming a normal part of one s military experience it s important for clinicians to be aware and trained on the mental health implications associated with multiple and longer deployments. • 4. Justice Is Thrasymachus The Stronger At the beginning of the debate on what justice is; Thrasymachus shoves himself into the dialogue to say that justice is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger (Plato 14 [I]). In the state, a ruler is considered the stronger, therefore what is advantageous to them is just. The laws made to be beneficial to the ruler are just, so it is just for their subjects to follow these rules and if they disobey it is considered unjust. This can be said since we can assume that the ruler is the strongest in any situation. When asked if rulers can make mistakes, Thrasymachus agrees. In relation to the last statement, if a ruler was to create a law in error, hence the law is disadvantageous to the ruler, and the subjects followed this law, justice is served on one part. However, since the law is disadvantageous to the ruler, it would be unjust. The other interlocutors interpret Thrasymachus statement to mean that what is just is what the ruler believes to be advantageous to themselves since it was agreed upon that the ruler of the state is the stronger. Thrasymachus, angry with this conclusion, clarifies his agreement to: A ruler, insofar as he is a ruler, never makes errors and unerringly decrees what is best for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on his view of justice, injustice rules the truly simple and just, and those it rules do what is to the advantage of the other and stronger, and they make the one they serve happy, but themselves not at all (Plato 19 [I]). Thrasymachus stands to say that injustice commands the weak who obey and serve and benefit the stronger, while they do not benefit at all. Injustice serves those who are unjust, while those who just do not benefit from being just. He concludes, therefore, that it is more favorable to be unjust, rather than just. This stands to question why the weaker would be just if they do not profit from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Declaration Of Independence From Great Britain In 1776, the United States continental congress ratified the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. Following the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation, the next few years displayed a great amount of progression for the protection of the American citizen by implementing the United States Constitution. The first three articles of the Constitution focused on the division of power between the President and Congress, which comprised of the House of Representatives and Senate. Since the Constitution s establishment, the issue of who has what certain war powers has maintained in the spotlight. The Constitution is notoriously misunderstood because of how many ways the document can be interpreted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 415). In 1973 Congress adopted the War Powers Resolution in attempt to rein the President in and consult with Congress when it came to taking any action when introducing troops to hostile regions. There have been a number of President s who have used their executive power to move U.S. troops into countries of a hostile nature that were of no immediate threat to the U.S. homeland. President Wilson sent troops to Vera Cruz during the Mexican Revolution, President Carter sent aid in the form of helicopters to hostages in Iran, and President Clinton bombed both Iraq and Serbia (Currie, Pg. 41). Most of those actions leaned towards more of a humanitarian effort, rather than a deliberate attack on U.S. national security. The current U.S. President, Barack Obama, has continued this humanitarian and moral trend with the use of U.S. military force in Libya and Syria. However, both events are very much different in seeking the approval or consultation by Congress given their political context. In 2011, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, had come under the international spotlight as a major threat to the citizens of Libya. Given Libya s location centered amongst several Arab states, there was much at stake for U.S. interest. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the United Nations also backed the U.S. and other NATO allies military ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Interpretation Of Oppression By Marilyn Frye Nikky Xiong Feminist Philosophy Nancy Bauer Oct 12th, 2015 The Interpretation of Oppression Women and men are born equal. However, females are receiving unequal judgement and unfair treatment in the society, and thus Marilyn Frye brings up the notion of oppression , claiming that women are oppressed. Throughout the essay, I will first give the definition of Frye s oppression and then list 5 critical qualifications to be considered oppressed. After that, I will explain my appreciation on Frye s perspective on elaborating oppression using the bird cage analogy. I will support Frye s double bind argument for sexism followed by flaws in the argument. Furthermore, I will point out some social group are mistakenly placed inside or outside the parameters of oppression, once the theory of oppression extends over other marginal groups. Given the definition of oppression as a system of interrelated barriers and forces which mold , immobilize , and reduce a certain group of people, and affect their subordination to another group (Frye 4), Frye lists out five premises in order to be considered oppressed. First of all, the group of people must be restricted. In other words, there must be limitations or barriers on them. For example, women make 78 cents for every dollar earned by men (Kessler 1). Second, those restrictions surely cause harm, which must outweigh any potential benefits oppressed groups experience as a result of those same restrictions (Gillingham 1). For ... Therefore, we can say that our entire experience of reality is nothing but a combination of sensory information and our brains sense making mechanisms for that particular information. • 8. The Radical Period of The French Revolution Essay The Radical Period of The French Revolution By the end of 1971, Europe was preparing to witness the end of a seemingly triumphant revolution in France. The country was restructuring its government in a forceful and bloodless manner, while the tyrant King Louis the XVI agreed to the demands of the masses (albeit without much choice). However, due to the fanatical aspirations of men such as Danton, Marat and Robespierre,it would be only a matter of months before the moderate stage of social and political reform was transformed into a radical phase of barbaric and violent force. Moderate forces preferred to concentrate on the foreign affairs of new France, but the radicals insisted on domestic stability first. Led by the popular Danton and the merciless Marat, the Paris Commune discarded the old constitution and called for a National Convention to begin work on a new, revised version. The National Convention, divided by the moderate Girondins and the radical Jacobins, was the place where the future of the country was to be eventually determined. It was the premise of the Jacobins that they should eradicate the enemy within and secure the destiny of the revolution through the destruction of counter revolutionary forces. They believed that by weeding out those who opposed the revolution, they could achieve their goals quickly and efficiently. The Girondins were not so quick to agree with the Jacobins, and so political deadlock begin to form in the Convention. It was not until after the September massacres, when 1200 prisoners were executed without trials, that Robespierre and his followers were able to justify their premise. They condemned the actions of the unruly mobs that caused the deaths of innocent Frenchmen and demanded that the Monarchy be abolished in order to eliminate as many of the royalists and monarchists that still remained. The activity based methodology is further subdivided as deterministic (Critical path method) and probabilistic method (Program Evaluation and Review Technique). While location based methodologies can be subdivided into unit production and location production. Activity based scheduling methodology was developed in 1950s. The planning is done in construction process by using network of activities in this methodology. Location based methodology is based on the tracking of the crews working at various production tasks. These techniques are adopted using various graphical methods. This technique was used as a construction management system at the empire states building developed by goodyear company. These techniques are widely adopted in continuous production facilities.it was considered that this methodology requires repetition of activities and hence known as repetitive scheduling method (RSM). While this method is more concerned about movement o resources through various locations and activities need not to be repetitive for adoption of this method. This assignment of roles is something that has spanned the history of literary works. Carl Jung, Swiss psychiatrist and the founder of analytical psychology explained these roles people assume and their meaning. Many of prime ministers were involved in this as it ended in 1973. The quote Australia is not, and never has been, the racist country its academic historians have been condemned is most certainly incorrect between the years 1901 to 1973 as the majority of people were not allowed to enter Australia if they were non white people. The reasons proving that Australia was indeed a racist country include the reasons why the white Australia policy was introduced, immigration and the way other countries saw Australia. It allows organisms to adapt to the environment as it changes. In Biology, theory of evolution does not tell us how life began on earth, but it helps us understand how life came into existence, diversified in many forms on earth, and fossil records. Scientists have many theories on evolution. One of the theories suggests all the healthy species can reproduce but they do so imperfectly. Small variations can build up over generations to create dramatic differences in the body form and function of living creature, called biological evolution. Evidence overwhelmingly suggests that all life on earth is related. Charles Robert Darwin, an English naturalist and geologist, established that all species of life on earth have descended over time from common ancestors. In 1859, Darwin released his theory of evolution in The Origin of Species. Darwin presents his idea that species evolved through process called Nature Selection. Charles Darwin says: Thus, from the war of nature, from famine and death, the most exalted object which we are capable of conceiving, namely, the production of the higher animals, directly follows. In case juvenile offenders are not wiling to serve in boot camps, then they are compelled to serve their jail term. Therefore participation in boot camps is not compulsory and individuals can prefer to serve their original jail term instead. (Cowles, 2005) The first boot camp was opened in the United States in Georgia and Oklahoma around 1983. The initial set of the boot camps was to maximize the rate of deterrence, reduce the crowding in juvenile prison, to decrease the cost of penal and the correction system, and in order to reduce the rate of recidivism. Boot camps are therefore less restrictive than the system in prisons and harsher than the system in probation. • 27. The Charge of the Light Brigade and Attack Essay The Charge of the Light Brigade and Attack The Charge of the light Brigade by Alfred Lord Tennyson and Attack by Siegfried Sassoon are two very dissimilar poems. Both of them are on the same topic of war but have many contrasts in how they treat the subject matter, war. The main difference between these two poems is the audience that they were written for. Tennyson, as poet laureate, was written for public reading, but Sassoon s work which showed more emotion and feeling, was therefore more of a private poem. The poems tone and mood are very different. Tennyson s poem is a triumphant, victorious and celebratory poem. This is because the Victorians did not want to read about defeat, as it was not considered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While time ticks blank on their busy wrists. The language in the two poems is different. The poets use different literary terms. Tennyson begins his poem by using anaphora in the opening lines, Half a league, half a league, half a league onward. Anaphora is the repetition of certain words or words to obtain a rhythmic pattern. In this historic war, the men charged at the enemy guns on horseback, so this repetition in Tennyson s opening lines could be associated with the sound of galloping horses. Tennyson uses this again when he writes, Cannon to the right of them, Cannon to the left of them, Cannon in front of them. Tennyson also uses rhetorical questions in his poem, for example, Was there a man dismay d? and When can their glory fade? These are questions to which no answer is required, and add dramatic effect to the poem. Then he uses the phrase, The Valley of Death, to describe the valley in which the charge took place. This phrase is taken from the Bible ( Psalm 23). In other translations of the Bible ( The Good News Bible), it is translated as, the deepest darkness . Tennyson uses it with dramatic effect as if the men were ordered to go into the deepest darkness to charge down the cannons. During the Victorian period of history the Bible would have been important to the Victorian people and so the poem appealed to their cultural knowledge. Tennyson also uses other terms to ... Before this bulletin it was not normal for the lessee to disclose the fact that the company was in a contract long term lease of an asset. The Accounting Institute of Certified Public Accountants felt that investors and other decision making personnel should have the right to know about leases in which a company was contractually bound. The committee states in this bulletin that when it clearly evident that the lessee will have ownership of the asset after all payments are made, that the lessee should account for this in the assets and liabilities of the company s Balance Sheet. The committee believes that the AICPA issued the opinion that all long term leases should be disclosed in the financial statements or the footnotes. These disclosures include the payment amounts and other obligations assumed not only in the year in which they occurred but any material amounts in the life of the lease. (Committee on Accounting Procedure, American Institute of Accountants, 1949) Although, the main point of this bulletin was to address long term leases, the AICPA never formally defines what it means by a long term lease which can be assumed to be what modern day accounting defines as a capital lease. The purpose of the bulletin was not to address short term leases (now called operating leases) because there was no exchange of rights in these situations. Although the above opinion was ... • 31. Construction Industry Council ( Cic ) Steel has been one of the key materials for a modern society from the past to these days, while its manufacture is one of the main contributors of carbon emission in the world. In order to drive the construction industry to apply more sustainable materials, Construction Industry Council (CIC) has launched a voluntary and Hong Kong based Carbon Labelling Scheme for Construction Materials covering Cement, Reinforcing Bar, and Structural Steel. Steel, being a very significant material in building industry in Hong Kong, has a considerable carbon footprint throughout its life cycle. There are two different routes of steel making, Basic Oxygen Steelmaking (BOS) and Electric Arc Furnace Steelmaking (EAS). Basic Oxygen Steelmaking is a primary steelmaking method, in which convert carbon rich molten pig iron into steel due to oxidizing action. Oxygen was blown into the melt under a basic slag. It is the most powerful and effective steel making method. The converter used for steel making is called as Basic Oxygen Furnace. There is about 67% of steel in the world is produced using Basic Oxygen Steelmaking. The process of Basic Oxygen Steelmaking was developed in 1948 by Robert Durrer and commercialized in 1952 1953 by Austrian VOEST and ÖAMG. Does True Religion enjoy a competitive advantage in the segment? If so, is its advantage sustainable? I would say that True Religion enjoy a competitive advantage in the segment because this was a company that had been through a slowdown in sales then rose then fell again. Within the times of falling revenue the company still managed to develop strategies so that it wouldn t end up like other companies such as rock amp; republic that filed for bankruptcy. Therefore, I decided to focus on the issue of accepting gifts from the clients in the health services because I am a nurse by profession and I usually come across with this issue. In my opinion, it is a debatable question that whether the professionals accept gifts or not and it is controversial. Gifts are common in the termination session, and a gift at the early stage of therapy need more consideration (Zur, 2012). In my reading I have found that, there are three general categories of gifts. First one, gift is considered as a tip to the professional who have a good personalized service in the restaurant or a health professional providing care that is beyond the call of duty . Second one, gifts are given to address the perceived imbalance in the professional relationship. Third one, gift act as a sacrifice or respect to the professional such as signing in the forms for the specific benefit to the client (Gerig, 2014). These gifts mostly represent gratitude and appreciation. Sometimes, gift may given as way of manipulating or influence the person such as extra care, spent extra time with the client and so on (Cornock, 2011). • 34. Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee Essay The way that people understand their circumstances and surroundings is often directly correlated to the way they perceive the world around them. An adult understands much more around him than a child does because of the mature, more knowledgeable perception he has. Meanwhile, the child, while not able to fully understand what she sees, often sees more than an adult because of the knowledge hungry, curious perception she has. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, the characters range in gender, age, and intelligence. The narrator herself is a young elementary age child. She is extremely smart for her age, but because of her limited exposure to the world, does not fully understand the seriousness and danger of the story unfolding around her. While the book To Kill a Mockingbird covers many controversial topics, perception and the change certain characters undergo that effects this perception are the key to connecting many of them. One of the main characters in Too Kill a Mockingbird is Jem. He is Scout s older brother. As the story is told, he ages, transitioning from a young boy into a teenager. His perception of the world around him changes vastly as he ages, leaving curiosity behind for a better understanding. At the beginning of the story, the reader is introduced to the unseen character of Boo Radley. According to the adults around town, he is a recluse who never leaves his home. The title First Love links to a sense of naivety and innocence. It suggests that the poem may be romantic and meaningful. On the other hand, the title Rejection instantly signifies a negative atmosphere and implies that the poem may be an elegy, as it could be exploring the darker, more sorrowful side of one s mind. Whilst the poems share some similarities, they do not have many ideas or themes in common. First Love includes themes such as desperation and naivety. These can be identified throughout the poem. This point is where I began to sense a link to mental illness as the jacket is used to represent a public symbol of shame, much like the way mental illness is viewed in society. This idea is illuminated again in the last quatrain where they describe themselves as feeling slightly leftover after all the guests/have gone. This links back to the theme of isolation and also links to the ideas of low self worth and mental illness. This typically leads to further problems fitting in with their peers, making friends and being successful within a classroom. There has been a lot of research regarding effective treatments for improving social skills for students with autism. One barrier to drawing conclusions about optimal treatments for children with autism is the use of highly varied dependent measures in the treatment literature (Cunningham, 2012, p.1). The study conducted by Cunningham focuses on reviewing previous studies on this topic and addressing variables important in the development and the measures taken within those studies. The studies used assessed social interaction skills in young children with autism through a focus on various related literatures. Emotion Coaching and Children with Oppositional Defiant Disorder Children who consistently display behavioral problems in the home and within a social context (Dunsmore, Booker, Ollendick, 2013) characterize oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). According to Dunsmore, Booker, and Ollendick (2013), the widespread cases for ODD are 1 percent to 13 percent in children at the age of 6 17 years (p. 444). Children with ODD have frequent explosive episodes of opposition, disputation, and antagonist behaviors that upset intercommunications with like aged children, their own parents, and siblings (Dunsmore, et. al., 2013). Other evidence of ODD involves rage, quick agitation, and becoming nasty or revengeful (Dunsmore, Booker, Ollendick, Greene, 2016). Oppositional defiant disorder links these children with the incapability to express feelings, connect and manage intimate relationships, and work within a team environment (Dunsmore, et. al., 2013). Children displaying behavioral problems lack the parental emotional communication called emotion coaching than mothers of children without conduct problems (Dunsmore, et. al., 2013, p. 445). However, once mothers of children with ODD undertake emotion coaching, then positive connections with others appear to surface for these children (Dunsmore, et. al., 2013).
