During my time at my practicum, I have not experienced any practice related ethical dilemmas. In
fact, as I am writing this, I have only been on the phones once since I just recently completed
training. For this assignment, I am going to use a hypothetical dilemma based on things I have
witnessed during my observation shifts, my knowledge of Headquarters Counseling Center, and
my role as a social work intern. The emotional reactions I discuss will be true of how I feel while
imaging the situation. At Headquarters, our primary focus is suicideprevention. As a social work

beginning for me. Counseling on the hotline will be my main job at my internship, so I will be

good to work through it for this assignment and hopefully feel more prepared when the time
comes. When talking to suicidal others (people who are calling us because they are concerned that
someone else in their life is suicidal) on the hotline, it is extremely important for us to assess the
level of seriousness of the situation and counsel the caller through the process as well. Often times,
these callers wantus to either call the suicidal person for them, teach them the skills to help their
friend/family member/etc. on their own, or want us to call 911 to check on them. We reserve
calling dispatch for when it is completely necessary. However, what if it is necessary but the

The Student Organizational Fair at SUNY Potsdam is essentially where a=organization clubs at
Potsdam put up tables and students would walk around and learn more about the clubs. This week
I decided to check out the student organizational fair to see if there was any clubs that I would be
interested in. I didn t expect too much out of it in all honesty but I m glad that I checked it out.

I love to learn things by physically testing, building or using my hands alongside my mind. A
great example demonstrating this pattern would be when I took apart one of the lamps that my

via Steele, 2005, p.75). We categorize people into two groups: male or female; man or woman;
masculine or feminine; gay or straight. However, throughout humanity s development, variances to
that model have emerged, either choosing to sit somewhere between the binary, or reject the model
altogether. These variations challenge the binary assumptions entrenched within society, and as a
result, are often denied, misunderstood or ignored entirely.
Enter bisexuality. Put simply, the concept of bisexuality is a sexual orientation that lies in the space
between heterosexuality and homosexuality. However, society s assumption of sexual
essentialism, the idea that sexual orientation is fixed and absolute, has led to a culture that is
uncomfortable with people who are sexually ambiguous (Valverde via Naugler, 2012, p. 87).
This urges society to assume that, despite the existence of bisexuality, people are really either

heart problems in America, so we should try to encourage the children to make healthy choices, and
pack lunches from home.
Another reason to pack lunches from home, is that children these days tend to be picky eaters. If
a child doesn t like what is served, then they wont eat it. Student who don t eat full lunches are
shown to do poorly on test, and have trouble studying. Food is a very important part of a person
s day, and if they don t get enough of it, it can affect their mood, and behaviors. Children are
more likely to eat foods that they have picked out by themselves, as long as they approved by the
parents as healthy foods. Many children today go home and have snacks . Most of the time, this
can pretty much turn out to be an entire bag of potato chips, or two or three glasses of milk.
Although these foods can be good for you, they aren t supposed to be eaten like that. If children eat
a full meal for lunch that day, they won t feel the need to eat so much for a snack.
Another way that home lunches can be better for children is that they teach children the
importance of self responsibility. Packing them alone can teach kids what kind of foods are good

fifth grade, where they decided that there was a need for better chicken. Later, McLeroy sold his
drum set giving up his rockstar career to start the chicken joint which now boasts a annual revenue

Negative Effects of Overreliance Materialistic items play a key role in the world today. People
use these items, such as technological appliances, to fulfill their daily wants and needs. However,
most people do not realize the negative effects of such a heavy reliance on material goods. In The
Allegory of the Cave, Plato shares his idea that an overdependence on items can negatively affect
ethical decisions. This idea is discussed in The Veldt, by Ray Bradbury, The Truman Show

Vivaldi Instrumedeley Analysis
The two concerts I have chosen are different in many ways, but the music itself has a lot in
common. For the first concert I chose the progressive rock group Dream Theater. I chose the piece
Instrumedley from their Live at Budokan video released in 2004. This video depicts the band setup
on stage in the typical rock concertformat. The lighting is bright and multicolored. Unlike most rock
concerts, the musicians do not animate themselves to excite the crowd. They rely on the mastery of
their instruments to provide the excitement.
The second concert is a performance of Vivaldi s Concerto Grosso in D minor. It is performed by
the Franz Listz Chamber Orchestra. The setting is that of a small gothic church in Hungary. There
is no audience as the venue is used solely for the acoustics.
The band Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985. The members
met while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Their music focuses on

for his pieces for string orchestra. One of his most famous of these is his set of concertos for
