Social Work Reflection Paper
During my time at my practicum, I have not experienced any practice related ethical dilemmas. In
fact, as I am writing this, I have only been on the phones once since I just recently completed
training. For this assignment, I am going to use a hypothetical dilemma based on things I have
witnessed during my observation shifts, my knowledge of Headquarters Counseling Center, and
my role as a social work intern. The emotional reactions I discuss will be true of how I feel while
imaging the situation. At Headquarters, our primary focus is suicideprevention. As a social work
intern, I see what the agency does at many different levels. Answering the phones, though, is just
beginning for me. Counseling on the hotline will be my main job at my internship, so I will be
discussing a dilemma based on the phone counseling portion of my work. This is actually a
situation I have thought about, and I am worried about finding myself in, so I thought it would be
good to work through it for this assignment and hopefully feel more prepared when the time
comes. When talking to suicidal others (people who are calling us because they are concerned that
someone else in their life is suicidal) on the hotline, it is extremely important for us to assess the
level of seriousness of the situation and counsel the caller through the process as well. Often times,
these callers wantus to either call the suicidal person for them, teach them the skills to help their
friend/family member/etc. on their own, or want us to call 911 to check on them. We reserve
calling dispatch for when it is completely necessary. However, what if it is necessary but the
suicidal person refuses the help? The following is a specific situation I have been thinking about
and applying this ethical dilemmato. I receive a suicidal other call from a woman in a different
part of the state who is worried about a friend in Lawrence. The friend has told her he is suicidal,
that he plans to shoot himself in the head, and that he plans to do it the same evening. She had not
heard from her friend in several hours, since he told her about his plan, and she is does not know
of any friends or family he may have in town that could check on him. Unsure of how to contact

A Career as a Radiology Techniologist Essay
Radiology Technologist have been around for almost a century. Radiology Technologist works in
various places taking diagnostic imaging examinations for patients, which are x rays, magnetic
resonance imaging, and mammography. (eHow) This job is one of the few in the world that can
give the risk of cancer to the rad techs. And is stilled one of the most needed in the medical field.
RadiologyTechnologist needs to understand computers and what the x rays show, and how to set
up a patient for and x rayto be taken. Radiology Technologist are one of the highest paid in the

Sadly, this means that the more taxes will be taken out of your check. The amount a tech gets
paid is determined on their degree and the amount of experience that the individual knows. The
way an x ray tech gets paid, is just like any other job, can differ from one hospital or medical
center to the next. The time between the time periods could be weekly, every other week, or
monthly. This all depends on the employers view of the work place.
Although there have been signs of leukemia, there is still uncertainty if that long hours of
radiation exposure has any effect on x ray techs. (RSNA) Although I first believed that as an x
ray tech I would be diagnosed with cancer or some other disease, I now know that there is only a
slight possibility that I will even be diagnosed. Even though getting zapped by some kind of
radiation would turn the x ray tech into a powerful beast would be cool, it is impossible... for now
anyways.
An x ray tech receives many benefits if their employer sees that certain insurances and coverage
should be covered:
Radiology Techs get the opportunity to receive benefits provided by their employer. The first of
many benefits is that techs get a good health insurance. The second benefit is that techs get good
dental insurance.

An Analysis Of Robert Stam s Time And The City
Both literature and cinema have the ability to emotionally engage its audience not just through the
language and visuals but through the poetics created from it. While literature focuses on precise
language and structuring, film can also make use of various mediums to build on a theme. Many of
the poetic themes in both mediums, however, are found in their use of disunity. Robert Stam
appropriately describes this power of disunity: Each of the filmic tracks can potentially develop an
autonomous temporality entering into complex relations with the other tracks. Film s multitrack
nature makes it possible to stage contradiction between music and image... A quoted piece of music,
with its own rhythm and continuity can accompany an image track characterized by a different
rhythm and continuity. Thus the cinema offers possibilities of disunity and disjunction not
immediately available to the novel. The possible contradictions between tracks can become an
aesthetic resource. Terence Davies Of Time and the City utilizes this multitrack nature of film.
The juxtaposition of music, sounds, and imagery helps elevate the themes and words of Davies.
The Folks Who Live on the Hill scene is a good example of visual metaphors through
juxtaposition. The black and white montage begins with shots of the elderly in a Liverpool
neighborhood. These are then followed by clips of parents nurturing their babies and children in the
neighborhood, occasionally showing glimpses of the elderly in the

Community College Speech Tournament
The Houston Community College organized a speech tournament for students to partake in an
opportunity of demonstrating both their speech and communication skills. The student s skills are
applied while each individual presents their speeches on the most popular topics, such as legalizing
marijuana and Obamacare. In front of a vast audience, filled with many faculty members, the
audience is able to listen to the students input and conducted research they have completed while
simultaneously exhibiting their communication skills successfully. The main purpose of hosting a
speechtournament are for students to exemplify those acquired skills and to allow faculty to

Each student is able to showcase their personal skills, gain substantial experience, and evaluate
other speakers. More than simply winning an award, those who participate in speech tournaments
are motivated to perform and excel a lot further. Engaging in speech tournaments will also
encourage students who participate to adopt techniques and skills. In regards to the student s career
s, students are able to prosper and succeed when job searching and completing job interviews. One
of the many benefits of participating in college speech tournaments is the ability to use their
experience on the student s resume. As the student continues to build and strengthen their resume,
he or she can secure their desired job position. Speech tournaments are known to develop excellent
oral and written communication skills as well as critical thinking skills. Also, the students can

Xerox and Fuji Xerox
The structure of the joint venture between Xerox Corporation and Fuji Xerox became an issue in
the beginning of the 90Вґs. The growth of the competence from Canon, Richoh and Minolta in the
low end copiers and Kodak and IBM in the high end has led them to lose market share. The
growth of the Asian and South Pacific Market as well as the necessity of Fuji Xerox to be more
independent becomes a challenge for the managers of the Xerox Group. We need to find the best
practices in product designs, manufacturing, and managementideas to continue this synergy and
fight against the growing competence.
To understand our situation in this case we most analyze how Fuji Xerox became important for
Xerox Corporation. In the beginning of the 60Вґs Fuji ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We also need to take in the account the potential that Fuji Xerox haves in the South Pacific
markets (China and Australia the most important) Xerox Company should analyze more deeply
the idea of leave to FX the control on this market. Making a comparison with the current process,
it seams to be more profitable for the group to produce and deliver products for this market through
Fuji Xerox than from RX as now being done.
The last question to asses would be: Is there conditions for the sustainability of the joint venture?
We can see by the increase of sales and processes improvement that this partnership could promote
stability in the long term, but we should focus in organize the internal problems the most important
issue is to align interest of the companies. Therefore we should align which markets should Fuji
Xerox can serve and agree on who will do what, after this agreements are clear there will be no
more friction between the companies and they can be focus on working against the competition.
Xerox had come to recognize Fuji Xerox as a critical asset and we get to the conclusion that Fuji
Xerox does create value. Xerox Should gives more autonomy in order to compete directly with our
principal threat Canon who is introducing twice as many products than Xerox with a lower
investment. Xerox should focus on the high end segment and impulse Fuji Xerox by leaving them
the responsibility of the mid and low end

Symbolism In The Fall Of The House Of Usher
The term gothic is used to describe a work of literature characterized by the elements of mystery,
gloom, and fear. Combing the idea of gothic literature with Edgar Allan Poe s single effect yields a
completely terrifying masterpiece. There are a multitude of themes and symbols that can be pulled
from this work, but it is the narrator s description of his ambiguous setting that brings on the gothic
undertones of mystery, gloom, and fear in Edgar Allan Poes The Fall of the House of Usher. The
first gothic undertone cleverly stashed away in the story is the mysterious ambiance of the
setting. In the beginning of the story, the location of the Usher house is never given to the
readers for several reasons. This lack of location aids Poe in creating a mysterious setting
without him specifying it. This effectively leaves readers in an unknown place that they know
nothing about, which adds to the overall mysterious tone of the setting . Upon entering the house
the narrator says that he is conducted through many dark and intricate passages (Poe 475). From
this point on, readers do not have any inkling as to where the narrator is in the house, barring
several descriptions of several rooms the narrator resides in. Not only is the setting ambiguous,
but the overall time frame in never given to readers as well.. No specified date is ever presented
throughout the entire story and readers are only aware of the fact that several days have passed
here and there. The lack of detail

Ghosts And Spirits By Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
Unfinished Business:
Ghosts and Spirits
The average person may think of ghosts and spirits as something disguised in a white sheet with
holes for eyes, a ragged figure dragging chains and moaning. In addition, something floating
through the air and that can enter and exit rooms without the need to open doors. This is an
example of the way ghosts and spirits are usually described in stories or depicted in movies. It
has been said that ghosts and spirits are souls that cannot pass into the next world or dimension
once they have died on earth. Although, truth be told that all ghosts and spirits have a purpose to
be able to travel through two different worlds, life and afterlife. Ghosts and spirits proves to be a
dominant symbol in the play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also not uncommon to meet former family at the time of death that delivers help to the
afterlife. All of these guides will normally always create a successful transition in and out of the
world. Pursuing this further, Elisabeth Kubler Ross describes that it is important to know that every
single human being, from the moment of birth until the moment when they make the transition and
end this physical existence, is in the presence of guides or guardian angels that will give you aid
to the transition from life after death . Basically, the psychopomp is another way to help the spirits
get through to the other side (animals, friends, former family and guardian angels). The
psychopomp is a person that is born with this talent in guiding with the transitions. It is also a skill
that can be leant, the primary function is not to reconnect the living with the dead, but to help the
spirits cross over.
Angels. Guardian angels. Spirit guides.
Angels, Guardian angels and spirit guides are really the good type of ghosts, althoughthey fit more
in the description of a spirit. In the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament, angels are known as God
s messengers. Common Knowledge of angels also knows that they are sent by God to watch
over the human race, to guard and protect from danger, as well as to give humans signs to excel
in life. Statistics have shown that many people believe in angels. According to a poll of American
adults 96% believe in God, 90% believe in

The Importance Of Class In A Pair Of Silk Stockings
Class has been defined as a system that has utterly ordered society. Individuals are classified and
divided into groups as a result of their social and economic status. For centuries, class has
dominated the way we have lived and impacted our life immensely. Class has not only labeled us it
has created a separation between many members of society. One s social statusin our materialistic
society has defined our lives and compelled us to not only have disparate perspectives but live
differently as well. Of course, those that are placed in the lower class experience hardship and
poverty. On the other hand, those who are part of the upper classhave the privilege to live much
more comfortably and in some cases with no financial worries. Yet, this is the general perception
that many individuals have about class. However, in reality there are many factors that can help us
define what class truly is and what roles it plays in our lives. Intriguingly, in the story A Pair of Silk
Stockings the author Kate Chopin has created a story which helps us fundamentally understand the
true meaning behind class and the lasting impact it can have on many. In the story, we see how the
protagonist feels this immense sense of wealthas a the result of the fact that she found fifteen
dollars. For many at the time fifteen dollars was a large amount of money. However, those fifteen
dollars had a deeper meaning behind them. They not only represented wealth but they offered the
opportunity to return

Exaggeration of Despair in Sherman Alexie s Reservation Blues
Gloria Bird realizes that for generations Native Americans have had drinking problems, and she
also realizes that it is difficult for native writers to accurately represent our communities without
exploiting them. (G. Bird) However, Bird criticizes Alexie of embellishing or exaggerating the
Native Americans despair. Alexie cannot ignore the alcohol situation when describing Native
American culture, but Alexie does not need to make alcoholism a common trait amongst almost
every Indian on the reservation and other reservations.

and then took all the furniture out on the front lawn, and burned it. (p.118)
Alexie does not just mention that Samuel is a drunk; he goes further to say that Samuel was an

The Positive And Negative Aspects Of Social Networks
here are many different opinions to social networks. Some think it is stupid to share every single
thought with the world even if it is very unnecessary, some think that it is the best way to tell your
friends what you are doing or to see what they are going to do. People and society is always
fighting about whether there are more risks or useful opportunities. Social networking to some
extent help people faster recognition for the world. For example, social networking increases
communicate with family in other cities. Then you can learned more things, and it strengthens
relationships. When social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpacewere introduced
to our society, our social interaction has positive and negative influences in people s life.
A positive of social networks is that you can stay in touch with your friends and family from all
around the world. So, you can send them a picture or post some funny videos on their wall to
make them see it. For example, if your son or your daughter is living maybe somewhere in the
US and he/she has a child that you are barely seeing in Austria, it s wonderful to have a social
network like Facebook, where you see some new photographs and some important information
about your proper grandchild s childhood.
Another huge benefit is that if you press like or follow on pages or blogs that you are interested
to, you always get the newest piece of information and you always be up to date. Also, you know

The Importance Of African Traditional Medicine
Hook. As stated by Helaine Selin, African traditional medicine represents the sum of the people s
medicinal knowledge as well as beliefs, skills, and practices used in diagnosing, preventing, or
eliminating a physical, mental, or social disequilibrium (Selin 679). Elaborate. Despite British
colonization of Nigeriaduring the 19th and 20th century, the Igbo tribe of Nigeria used various
methods of traditional medicineas a prominent practice of medicine throughout history.
The Igbo, like many other cultures around the world, have a set tradition to medicine. In fact, For
thousands of years a majority of the world s population had used and continues to use the
traditional method of healing and medicine. Similarly, the African people have used methods of
healing suited to Africa (Osuji 95). This suggests that the Igbo tribe is among the many African
tribes to use traditional medicine, as opposed to modern medicine, and they have used it for
millennia. In addition, they incorporate multiple aspects of religion into medicine, for their
spiritual beliefs act as the core to which their lives revolve. For instance, they refer to spirits as the
source of power for common treatments, for spirit forces energize medicine that individuals can
conjure and deploy for strength, protection, or to harm enemies (Arinze 4365). In addition,
traditional doctors themselves play a major role in connecting patients to the spiritual worlds. As

Tuckman Team Stages
Describe with examples the stages that involved in team development.
Psychologist Bruce Wayne Tuckman developed the first four stages of team development. The
stages were called Tuckman stages . Later the fifth stage was added together with Man Ann
Jensen. You can t expect a new team to perform well when it first comes together. The targeted
goal takes time to be achieved by the team within an organisation. Tuckman stages show us how a
team go through various steps acquiring a set of knowledge to share the common set goals.
Teamwork is a way to have an effective work. The five stages are forming, storming, norming,
performing, and adjourning which are further elaborated below:
Forming
In this first stage, a group of people introduced to each other. They are curious, anxious, cautious
and even excited about the task ahead. To form a good impression on others the spirit of positive
vibes are seen among the team members. The forming stage is to create a team with clear structure,
goals, direction and roles so that all the team ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is celebration and recognition of the group achievement. In this ending stage, the temporary
groups will be scattered once the goal has been accomplished. However, the ending process never
occurs in certain groups for example a customer service team and a social media team. However,
time and effort are needed to reach the final stage. The deadline is dependent on the experience and
skills of the team members. Members who have been adapted to the team may find the adjourning
stage difficult as they have to leave the team to accomplish their own personalised goal in the
organisation.
Indeed, team development is a way to increase the ability of an employee to have a good source of
planning, problem solving and decision making. The progression has to be effective through the
stages of the team development effectiveness is very crucial for the team to accomplish their

Animals And Its Effects On A Terrestrial Environment
One of the following challenges that various animals adapted to from a water dominant
environment to a terrestrial environment is that they protected themselves from drying out. In
order to carry this adaptation out and avoid desiccation (a process where organisms lose water to
the air), plants developed the adaptation of cuticle; a waxy and protective surface layer that is
secreted around the exposed surfaces of a plant. This surface is relatively impermeable which
essentially helps avoid water loss from taking place in the plant. Additionally, it prevents them from
acquiring different types of bacteria and viruses. Another structure that was adapted to prevent
water loss was the stomata, which allows water to diffuse out of the plant when it closes. This
adaptation is essential because plants need water to go through photosynthesisin order to produce
energy. Animals additionally faced the same challenge as well when evolving onto a terrestrial
environment. In order to avoid water loss, amphibians usually stayed within moist surroundings
since they needed their skin to be wet, so that oxygencan pass through their skin and help them
breathe. They didn t possess any adaptations capable of letting them survive in a dry land
environment due to the reliance of their moist skin needed to perform vital life functions. However,
reptiles evolved overcame this challenge with the dry, watertight skin they developed. This
adaptation significantly reduced the amount of water

When Eric, Doomadgee s son, is reminiscing keep these brief pauses in for emphasis. Commonly,

Non diegetic sound is also used fittingly in The Tall Man. In interviews, often there is subtle
instrumentals playing. When the film is detailing more of the distressing components of this
case, suspenseful and tense music is playing. One key scene where non diegetic sound is
utilised, is when a picture of Doomadgee is focused slowly zoomed to and in the background the

A.How I Use First, Use as Needed, or Avoid Sequence I use Sequence AS NEEDED. I like the
idea of a schedule but it s hard for me to stick to it. I rarely double check things but I am always
taking steps toward improving. I need enough time to perform and I hate to rush. This gives me
a chance to perform trial and error before arriving at my conclusion. I skim through pages and

I love to learn things by physically testing, building or using my hands alongside my mind. A
great example demonstrating this pattern would be when I took apart one of the lamps that my
boyfriend and I had in the living room. It wasn t broken and had been a fully functioning lamp
until I decided to take it apart to get to the part where the knob is at the top. I had wanted to use
a specific lampshade but couldn t because the center of it wasn t in compliance with the current
lamp. My brain told me to just switch lamp knobs, thus allowing me to put my new lampshade to
use. If you don t already know not to take apart a lamp, let me warn you, it is not worth it. My
lamp needed to be disassembled from the BOTTOM UP. My point is, I now know every single
part of that lamp and how it was put together. I never di get the new lampshade on nor was I able
to reassemble that lamp. I remind you of my previous reflection on Confluence, and how part of
that was being able to make mistakes and take risks, even if sometimes the results are not as

Gender Aspects Of Sex In Sex And The City
This blurring of gender norms, which would normally be seen as taboo is actually celebrated
and fully embraced in the context of the show. This is similar to what Sex and the City does in
the creation of Samantha Jones, one of the main characters of the show. Throughout the show
Sam is seen as the wildest and most sexually liberated character. She is a highly successful,
confident businesswoman who has sex like a man . Samantha defies popular gender norms by
unapologetically speaking her mind and truly having sex with no strings attached in a world in
which women are expected to be fragile prudish and depended on men in order to feel fulfillment.
The writers of Sex and the Citydo a wonderful job of presenting the kind of feminism that we are
likely to experience today. What that means is that unlike the feminism we see in Grey s
Anatomy in which equality is achieved, the experiences of the characters in Sex and the City and
the relationship of the main characters seem to be less of a fantasy and more of a reality. The
lives of the four main characters, Charlotte, Carrie, Miranda and Samantha and their relationships
serve as a representation of the different kinds of women that live amongst us today. On one end
we have the most traditional portrayal of women in network television, Charlotte York. Charlotte is
the most conservative and prudish one of the four women. As she says in the pilot of the show if
you want to get these guys you have to keep your mouth shut and

Reflection Paper On Sociology And Sociology
As I reflect on sociology 100, I realized that this is truly a course that opens up one s mind. I
admire the fact that this course really going to teach me a lot. I was really scared to take this
class because honestly I had no idea what Sociology is? I never took this class but my professor
made it easy and he made very clear that how we can keep an A in the class and what he expects
from us. The first week of the class was just about the syllabus and what chapter we gonna cover
throughout the semester. In total we studied nine chapter. They all helped me a lot to understand
the true meaning of sociologyand why it is useful. The first chapter was The Social Imagination,
The second chapter was Studying the Social World, The third chapter was Social Interaction, The
fourth chapter was Social Structure, The Fifth chapter was Culture, Media and Communication,
The sixth chapter was Power and Politics, The seventh chapter was Social Stratification,
Inequality and Poverty, The eight chapter was Race and Ethnicity and last but not least was
Gender and Sexuality. I will just discuss the what I found most interesting, why they are
important. First of all What is sociology? Really? I never asked this question to myself until the
first day of class. Sociology is the study of social behavior or society, including its origins,
development, organization, networks and institutions. It allows you to go to different paths, it
affects how we talk, it helps us to understand what s going

A Study On Genetic Diseases
In the late 1900s, scientists were able to describe a rare congenital genetic disease called 1p36
for the first time. Later, in 2001, a girl named Sonia was born; two weeks after her birth, she had
heart failure and her parents had to take her to the hospital due to low vital signs. That was the
first time doctors noticed that there was something wrong with her. A couple of days later, they
realized that not only her heart wasn t functioning properly, but she had low muscle tone, and
seizures. All of these symptoms gave doctors enough reasons to believe that it was a syndrome.
Today, Sonia lives and I m proud to say that she is my cousin. Learningabout genetic diseases
during my undergraduate journey, I was able to relate her story and until this day I m still
fascinated by the absolute profoundness and complexities of medicine. Thus, I have resolved to
dedicate my lifetime to become a doctor not only for my own professional and personal evolution,
but also to guide and mentor others.
Throughout my life, I had the opportunity to live fulfilling experiences that helped me confirm
my desire to be a doctor. I was fortunate to participate as a volunteer, at Nicklaus Children s
Hospital working in the emergency room, where I saw and experienced different cases as simple
as a flu, and as difficult as intensive care cases, such as heart transplant. There is one particular day
which stayed permanent in my mind. It was one of those that are full of doubts concerning your

Drug Delivery Via The Nasal Route
Introduction
In the past years, drug delivery via the nasal route has established itself as a competitor and an
alternative route over other routes of administration. It provides a higher degree of patient
compliance and drugs can be painlessly self administered by the patient (Illum, 2003). Drugs
administered through nasal route are absorbed rapidly and can reach therapeutically effective
plasma levels quickly due to highly permeable membranes and rich vasculature of the nasal cavity
(Majithiya et al., 2006). In addition, the nasal route offers further advantages over the oral route,
especially for those drugs that have poor oral bioavailability due to high hepatic first pass
metabolism, pH instability and enzyme degradation in GIT (Ugwoke et al., 2001).
Nowadays, the intranasal route has gained more interest to target drugs to the brain and cerebro
spinal fluid by passing the blood brain barrier. Intranasal formulation of drugs for the treatment of
Parkinson s disease (Khan et al., 2010), Alzheimer s disease (Zhang et al., 2004) and psychosis
(Kumar et al., 2008) have been elaborated and their therapeutic efficiency over conventional oral
dosage form has been verified.
Rivastigmine tartrate (RV) is the drug of choice for the treatment of Alzheimer s disease that is
characterized by progressive memory dysfunction due to significant insufficient levels of
acetylcholine in the brain (Williams et al., 2003). RV is categorized in the class of reversible
cholinesterase

Sociological Attitudes Toward Gender And Sexuality
When analysing the current state of sociological attitudes toward gender and sexuality, the
overwhelming conclusion is that the hegemonic view in society assumes an inherent binary (Lorber
via Steele, 2005, p.75). We categorize people into two groups: male or female; man or woman;
masculine or feminine; gay or straight. However, throughout humanity s development, variances to
that model have emerged, either choosing to sit somewhere between the binary, or reject the model
altogether. These variations challenge the binary assumptions entrenched within society, and as a
result, are often denied, misunderstood or ignored entirely.
Enter bisexuality. Put simply, the concept of bisexuality is a sexual orientation that lies in the space
between heterosexuality and homosexuality. However, society s assumption of sexual
essentialism, the idea that sexual orientation is fixed and absolute, has led to a culture that is
uncomfortable with people who are sexually ambiguous (Valverde via Naugler, 2012, p. 87).
This urges society to assume that, despite the existence of bisexuality, people are really either
gay or straight (Valverde via Naugler, 2012, p. 83). This is the phenomenon of bisexual erasure
(Eisner, 2013, p. 89). Bisexual erasure affects both bisexual men and women in various ways;
however, this essay will focus on the erasure of bisexuality in men in particular.
There is a distinctive public perception when it comes to bisexuality in men: that they don t exist at
all. Denial

Ella Baker
The book Ella Baker and the Black Freedom Movement: A Radical Democratic Vision, by Dr.
Barbara Ransby was an incredible and extremely moving book. I really enjoy learning about
history and significant people who have impacted the history and culture of our country. However,
I have never learned of Ella Baker nor have I ever heard her name mentioned once. Barbara
Ransby s book provides a well structured and insightful biography of one of the most important, yet
least well known, leaders of the Civil Rights Movement. After reading Ransby s book, I have
learned of the immense contributions that Ella Baker has contributed to history, more specifically
the Civil Rights Movement. Furthermore, I have gained a greater understanding of the... Show more

It was amazing to see how much Ella Baker was ahead of her time. She was a strong, independent
woman decades before there was a women s movement. I was very interested in the issues that
she had with Dr. Martin Luther King and his style of leadership. To me it was important to see
that not all the leaders agreed but knew to respect each other because they were fighting for the
same cause. It was also interesting to see how Ella Baker still contributed to organizations that were
not doing thing her way in order to help build coalitions. This I feel was in important factor in the
success of many organizations during the movement.
She worked to advance what she called group centered leadership long before a belief in the
importance of internal and participatory democracy within our progressive organizations was
widely shared. She was a coalition builder. Principles were essential, but she was rarely if ever
tactically rigid. She understood that the way individuals lived their personal lives could not be
divorced from their political activities.
Ella Baker must be the most underrated figure in the civil rights movements. There are plenty of
Presidents who have done less to shape their own times than Ella Baker. She decisively shaped
two of the most important national civil rights organizations the NAACP and the SCLC, and was
the single most decisive figure in a SNCC. Ella Baker should not be forgotten when we talk about

tries to bunt again and actually gets it down the third base side, a perfectly placed bunt in my
opinion, and takes off for first. The catcher springs out of his squat and goes to get the ball, he
throws, and SAFE! screamed the umpire named Donovan. Jake had made it, and was most likely
going to get the steal sign. All of our team, The Complete GameRangers, were on the fence
pounding it relentlessly, and screaming random gibberish. We all calm down as our catcher Ry,
whose hair is lucky , comes up. By now I am most likely going to hit this inning, Ry is doing his

Carnivore Evolution
Millions of years ago a dinosaur group, theropods, consisted of killing machines like the T Rex
and the velociraptor, but recent research has proven that these bloodthirsty carnivores evolved into
birds, trading their sharp teeth for beaks. This mind blowing realization has confused many people
for years, but Amy Balanoff reported her findings to show proof of the line of evolutionary descent
from horrendous beast to feathery pet.
Balanoff worked with a team of evolutionary biologist, their leader being Shuo Wang, discovered
the loss of teeth for beaks were normal in growth process of theropods. As the dinosaurs would
grow, a beak would naturally grow across their face which would stop the formation of teeth. Wang
discovered through earlier ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By conducting both comparative and statistical evidence on thousands of vertebrates, the team
hoped to find some understanding as to the characteristics of animals that develop beaks. Their
results showed that beaked animals are more likely to be hatched from eggs the embryos had a
structure on the tip of their snouts made of keratin, something found in fingernails; using this they
could break through the egg and then shortly after it would fall off. Josef Stiegler connected their
findings to the fossil records and stated that the transitions they saw in the jaw may have been the
start of this evolution from killer reptile to bird.
Obviously as this evolution progressed, the theropods would transition earlier and earlier until it
happened in the embryo stage. The team also hypothesized that a protein called BMP4 may have
stopped teeth from growing and start creating beaks, but Stiegler disagreed with this because he
felt like additional research needed to be conducted. Scientist Stephen Brusatte read the analysis
and thought the study is a great example of how fossil genetics can be used to show the
comparisons between modern birds today and terrible dinosaurs.
In my opinion, I don t find the study that far fetched. I believe that this could be a possibility to
how we have birds today. Through evolution I find that the idea of dinosaurs developing beaks at

The Importance Of Work Betty Friedan Summary
Rhetorical Analysis of Betty Friedan s The Importance of Work Betty Friedan, a best selling author,
a strong activist, and the first president of the National Organization for Women, wrote the book
The Feminine Mystique in 1963. The book analyzes American women who felt trapped by feminine
standards and their domesticated roles in society. In the excerpt, The Importance of Work, from The
Feminine Mystique, Friedan focuses on American women s search for human identity, which she
defines as meaningful and purposeful work. Throughout her essay, Friedan appeals to logic and

Essay on Home Lunches Are Better Than Cafeteria Food
When your looking into weather you want your child should eat food from home or the cafeteria, or
whether they should pack lunches from home, there are lots of things to consider. While
considering these options, I learned those lunches that are packed from home are much better for
the child. School lunches are expensive, and home lunches are healthier. Also, home lunches teach
children about being responsible and it teaches them how to take care of themselves. Thse thing are
important because they have long lasting effects.
The first thing that parents look at when they buy lunches for their children is how much lunches
cost. One thing that most parents have noticed, is that school lunches are not as cheap as lunches

Foods bought from a school cafeteria also cause a lot of weight problems. These foods are not well
balanced, and often include unhealthy deserts, and snack. Obesity is the number one cause for
heart problems in America, so we should try to encourage the children to make healthy choices, and
pack lunches from home.
Another reason to pack lunches from home, is that children these days tend to be picky eaters. If
a child doesn t like what is served, then they wont eat it. Student who don t eat full lunches are
shown to do poorly on test, and have trouble studying. Food is a very important part of a person
s day, and if they don t get enough of it, it can affect their mood, and behaviors. Children are
more likely to eat foods that they have picked out by themselves, as long as they approved by the
parents as healthy foods. Many children today go home and have snacks . Most of the time, this
can pretty much turn out to be an entire bag of potato chips, or two or three glasses of milk.
Although these foods can be good for you, they aren t supposed to be eaten like that. If children eat
a full meal for lunch that day, they won t feel the need to eat so much for a snack.
Another way that home lunches can be better for children is that they teach children the
importance of self responsibility. Packing them alone can teach kids what kind of foods are good
for there bodies. This is something that all kids need to learn to do , because sooner

Edwards amp; Wajcman (2005) describe globalization to be a process of increasing economic
integration of national economic systems. This has benefited and negatively impacted the UK
economy. World Bank figures report globalized economies benefit from higher GDP. On the
other hand, the connectedness of the UK economy puts it as risk. The first global economic
crisis was triggered by the Yom Kippur War, followed by the collapse of the Japanese economy and
dot com bubble burst led to a global recession (Robinson 2006). These events were later dwarfed
by the global financial crisis in 2008, from which the UK economy is still struggling to recover.

the policies and practices of HR departments
Labour Market: Kew amp; Stredwick (2010) note a feminisation of the workplace with female
participation rates increasing from 33 % in 1951 to 70 % in 2008. Giddens (2006) attributes this to
three key reasons; changes to family life, financial pressures and personal fulfillment.
Demographic changes have also resulted in an ageing population coupled with a reduction in UK
birth rates. (Chamerlin 2011) The resulting gaps in employment have been filled by migrant
workers, due to the improved mobility of labour afforded by Britain s membership to the EU and
globalisation.

Allegory of the Cave, Plato shares his idea that an overdependence on items can negatively affect
ethical decisions. This idea is discussed in The Veldt, by Ray Bradbury, The Truman Show
, by Peter
Weir, and Daniel Key s novel, Flowers for Algernon. Throughout all three stories, characters
greatly rely on items and other people, leading them to make unethical decisions. In some cases,
people are objectified as a result of being needed, desired, and treated unfairly. In The Veldt, The
Truman Show, and Flowers for Algernon, an overreliance on items leads to a loss of focus on
morals and what is ethically important. In Bradbury s The Veldt, the Hadley children, Peter and
Wendy, lose a sense of right and wrong because their reliance on technology distracts them from
their morals. The children lose compassion and understanding for others, engage in violence
towards their parents, and make hurtful and unethical comments towards family members. Their
overreliance on technology distances them from being able to work and provide for themselves.
As Mr. Hadley tries and fails to seperate the children from technology, the kids refuse to cooperate.

The Reality of War in John Knowles A Separate Peace
In his book A Separate Peace John Knowles communicates what war really is. He uses a number
of complex characters in a very complicated plot in order to convey the harsh, sad, cruel,
destructive forces of war. The Characters Gene and Finny are used as opposing forces in a struggle
between that cold reality of war that is World War II in this story and a separate peace. A peace
away from the real war and all of the terrible things that come with it. Through their relationship,
that is a struggle on both sides from the beginning, Knowles establishes the reality of war in all of
its essence.
Gene Forrester is established as the force of reality which is the war. This idea is ... Show more

Money is very easy to earn but rather hard to spend, because there isn t very much to buy. . .The
war will always be fought very far away from America and it will never end. Nothing in America
stands still for very long, including the people, who are always either leaving or on leave. (32)
This is what Gene stands for in the story of A Separate Peace. Gene appears to omnisciently
understand the reality of war and how it effects people. Throughout the entire story Gene is used
to bring in the destructive reality of war into the everyday life at Devon High School where there
is an attempt to create, and exist in, a separate peace.
There is however quite an opposition to this reality known by Gene that is headed by Gene s best
friend Finny. Finny has his own reality. Finny displays this reality throughout the whole book just
as Gene acts throughout the whole book. From the perspective of the narrator, Gene, Finny s
world is one where there are a lot of things that Finny does to try and substitute for the real war.
This world or reality that Finny creates and exists in is the separate peace spoken of earlier.
Finny first begins to create this separate peace with games. Because Finny can t face the reality of
the real war these games are representative of the war. Finny makes the rules so that he can exist in
these games as a force that is indomitable. The first game Finny invents is The Super Suicide

Vivaldi Instrumedeley Analysis
The two concerts I have chosen are different in many ways, but the music itself has a lot in
common. For the first concert I chose the progressive rock group Dream Theater. I chose the piece
Instrumedley from their Live at Budokan video released in 2004. This video depicts the band setup
on stage in the typical rock concertformat. The lighting is bright and multicolored. Unlike most rock
concerts, the musicians do not animate themselves to excite the crowd. They rely on the mastery of
their instruments to provide the excitement.
The second concert is a performance of Vivaldi s Concerto Grosso in D minor. It is performed by
the Franz Listz Chamber Orchestra. The setting is that of a small gothic church in Hungary. There
is no audience as the venue is used solely for the acoustics.
The band Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985. The members
met while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Their music focuses on
three core elements: metal, progressive roots and melody. Dream Theater has been known to make
use of elements of other musical styles to include classical music. The piece I selected,
Instrumedely , is a mash up of instrumental sections from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He was a master violinist. He wrote church music and more than 40 operas. He is widely known
for his pieces for string orchestra. One of his most famous of these is his set of concertos for
solo violin and orchestra named Four Seasons. The Vivaldi concerto was pure joy to listen to.
The opening sequence is entrancing as the two violins tend to echo off one another. The acoustics
of the gothic church lend itself perfectly to the style of music. The details in the melody are
clearly heard while there is a rich bass sound thanks to the echo of the church. I found the piece to
be rather relaxing while being impressed by the complexity. It is no surprise that so many modern
guitarists borrow heavy from

  • 2. Social Work Reflection Paper During my time at my practicum, I have not experienced any practice related ethical dilemmas. In fact, as I am writing this, I have only been on the phones once since I just recently completed training. For this assignment, I am going to use a hypothetical dilemma based on things I have witnessed during my observation shifts, my knowledge of Headquarters Counseling Center, and my role as a social work intern. The emotional reactions I discuss will be true of how I feel while imaging the situation. At Headquarters, our primary focus is suicideprevention. As a social work intern, I see what the agency does at many different levels. Answering the phones, though, is just beginning for me. Counseling on the hotline will be my main job at my internship, so I will be discussing a dilemma based on the phone counseling portion of my work. This is actually a situation I have thought about, and I am worried about finding myself in, so I thought it would be good to work through it for this assignment and hopefully feel more prepared when the time comes. When talking to suicidal others (people who are calling us because they are concerned that someone else in their life is suicidal) on the hotline, it is extremely important for us to assess the level of seriousness of the situation and counsel the caller through the process as well. Often times, these callers wantus to either call the suicidal person for them, teach them the skills to help their friend/family member/etc. on their own, or want us to call 911 to check on them. We reserve calling dispatch for when it is completely necessary. However, what if it is necessary but the suicidal person refuses the help? The following is a specific situation I have been thinking about and applying this ethical dilemmato. I receive a suicidal other call from a woman in a different part of the state who is worried about a friend in Lawrence. The friend has told her he is suicidal, that he plans to shoot himself in the head, and that he plans to do it the same evening. She had not heard from her friend in several hours, since he told her about his plan, and she is does not know of any friends or family he may have in town that could check on him. The amount a tech gets paid is determined on their degree and the amount of experience that the individual knows. The way an x ray tech gets paid, is just like any other job, can differ from one hospital or medical center to the next. The time between the time periods could be weekly, every other week, or monthly. This all depends on the employers view of the work place. Although there have been signs of leukemia, there is still uncertainty if that long hours of radiation exposure has any effect on x ray techs. (RSNA) Although I first believed that as an x ray tech I would be diagnosed with cancer or some other disease, I now know that there is only a slight possibility that I will even be diagnosed. Even though getting zapped by some kind of radiation would turn the x ray tech into a powerful beast would be cool, it is impossible... for now anyways. An x ray tech receives many benefits if their employer sees that certain insurances and coverage should be covered: Radiology Techs get the opportunity to receive benefits provided by their employer. • 4. An Analysis Of Robert Stam s Time And The City Both literature and cinema have the ability to emotionally engage its audience not just through the language and visuals but through the poetics created from it. While literature focuses on precise language and structuring, film can also make use of various mediums to build on a theme. Many of the poetic themes in both mediums, however, are found in their use of disunity. Robert Stam appropriately describes this power of disunity: Each of the filmic tracks can potentially develop an autonomous temporality entering into complex relations with the other tracks. Film s multitrack nature makes it possible to stage contradiction between music and image... A quoted piece of music, with its own rhythm and continuity can accompany an image track characterized by a different rhythm and continuity. Thus the cinema offers possibilities of disunity and disjunction not immediately available to the novel. The possible contradictions between tracks can become an aesthetic resource. Terence Davies Of Time and the City utilizes this multitrack nature of film. The juxtaposition of music, sounds, and imagery helps elevate the themes and words of Davies. The Folks Who Live on the Hill scene is a good example of visual metaphors through juxtaposition. The black and white montage begins with shots of the elderly in a Liverpool neighborhood. These are then followed by clips of parents nurturing their babies and children in the neighborhood, occasionally showing glimpses of the elderly in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Symbolism In The Fall Of The House Of Usher The term gothic is used to describe a work of literature characterized by the elements of mystery, gloom, and fear. Combing the idea of gothic literature with Edgar Allan Poe s single effect yields a completely terrifying masterpiece. There are a multitude of themes and symbols that can be pulled from this work, but it is the narrator s description of his ambiguous setting that brings on the gothic undertones of mystery, gloom, and fear in Edgar Allan Poes The Fall of the House of Usher. The first gothic undertone cleverly stashed away in the story is the mysterious ambiance of the setting. In the beginning of the story, the location of the Usher house is never given to the readers for several reasons. This lack of location aids Poe in creating a mysterious setting without him specifying it. This effectively leaves readers in an unknown place that they know nothing about, which adds to the overall mysterious tone of the setting . Upon entering the house the narrator says that he is conducted through many dark and intricate passages (Poe 475). From this point on, readers do not have any inkling as to where the narrator is in the house, barring several descriptions of several rooms the narrator resides in. Not only is the setting ambiguous, but the overall time frame in never given to readers as well.. No specified date is ever presented throughout the entire story and readers are only aware of the fact that several days have passed here and there. The lack of detail ... Despite British colonization of Nigeriaduring the 19th and 20th century, the Igbo tribe of Nigeria used various methods of traditional medicineas a prominent practice of medicine throughout history. The Igbo, like many other cultures around the world, have a set tradition to medicine. • 17. Animals And Its Effects On A Terrestrial Environment One of the following challenges that various animals adapted to from a water dominant environment to a terrestrial environment is that they protected themselves from drying out. In order to carry this adaptation out and avoid desiccation (a process where organisms lose water to the air), plants developed the adaptation of cuticle; a waxy and protective surface layer that is secreted around the exposed surfaces of a plant. This surface is relatively impermeable which essentially helps avoid water loss from taking place in the plant. Additionally, it prevents them from acquiring different types of bacteria and viruses. Another structure that was adapted to prevent water loss was the stomata, which allows water to diffuse out of the plant when it closes. This adaptation is essential because plants need water to go through photosynthesisin order to produce energy. Animals additionally faced the same challenge as well when evolving onto a terrestrial environment. In order to avoid water loss, amphibians usually stayed within moist surroundings since they needed their skin to be wet, so that oxygencan pass through their skin and help them breathe. They didn t possess any adaptations capable of letting them survive in a dry land environment due to the reliance of their moist skin needed to perform vital life functions. However, reptiles evolved overcame this challenge with the dry, watertight skin they developed. This adaptation significantly reduced the amount of water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is similar to what Sex and the City does in the creation of Samantha Jones, one of the main characters of the show. Throughout the show Sam is seen as the wildest and most sexually liberated character. She is a highly successful, confident businesswoman who has sex like a man . Samantha defies popular gender norms by unapologetically speaking her mind and truly having sex with no strings attached in a world in which women are expected to be fragile prudish and depended on men in order to feel fulfillment. What that means is that unlike the feminism we see in Grey s Anatomy in which equality is achieved, the experiences of the characters in Sex and the City and the relationship of the main characters seem to be less of a fantasy and more of a reality. The lives of the four main characters, Charlotte, Carrie, Miranda and Samantha and their relationships serve as a representation of the different kinds of women that live amongst us today. • 25. Drug Delivery Via The Nasal Route Introduction In the past years, drug delivery via the nasal route has established itself as a competitor and an alternative route over other routes of administration. It provides a higher degree of patient compliance and drugs can be painlessly self administered by the patient (Illum, 2003). Drugs administered through nasal route are absorbed rapidly and can reach therapeutically effective plasma levels quickly due to highly permeable membranes and rich vasculature of the nasal cavity (Majithiya et al., 2006). In addition, the nasal route offers further advantages over the oral route, especially for those drugs that have poor oral bioavailability due to high hepatic first pass metabolism, pH instability and enzyme degradation in GIT (Ugwoke et al., 2001). Nowadays, the intranasal route has gained more interest to target drugs to the brain and cerebro spinal fluid by passing the blood brain barrier. Intranasal formulation of drugs for the treatment of Parkinson s disease (Khan et al., 2010), Alzheimer s disease (Zhang et al., 2004) and psychosis (Kumar et al., 2008) have been elaborated and their therapeutic efficiency over conventional oral dosage form has been verified. Rivastigmine tartrate (RV) is the drug of choice for the treatment of Alzheimer s disease that is characterized by progressive memory dysfunction due to significant insufficient levels of acetylcholine in the brain (Williams et al., 2003). • 26. Sociological Attitudes Toward Gender And Sexuality When analysing the current state of sociological attitudes toward gender and sexuality, the overwhelming conclusion is that the hegemonic view in society assumes an inherent binary (Lorber via Steele, 2005, p.75). We categorize people into two groups: male or female; man or woman; masculine or feminine; gay or straight. However, throughout humanity s development, variances to that model have emerged, either choosing to sit somewhere between the binary, or reject the model altogether. These variations challenge the binary assumptions entrenched within society, and as a result, are often denied, misunderstood or ignored entirely. Enter bisexuality. Put simply, the concept of bisexuality is a sexual orientation that lies in the space between heterosexuality and homosexuality. However, society s assumption of sexual essentialism, the idea that sexual orientation is fixed and absolute, has led to a culture that is uncomfortable with people who are sexually ambiguous (Valverde via Naugler, 2012, p. 87). This urges society to assume that, despite the existence of bisexuality, people are really either gay or straight (Valverde via Naugler, 2012, p. 83). This is the phenomenon of bisexual erasure (Eisner, 2013, p. 89). Bisexual erasure affects both bisexual men and women in various ways; however, this essay will focus on the erasure of bisexuality in men in particular. There is a distinctive public perception when it comes to bisexuality in men: that they don t exist at all. Denial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I really enjoy learning about history and significant people who have impacted the history and culture of our country. However, I have never learned of Ella Baker nor have I ever heard her name mentioned once. Barbara Ransby s book provides a well structured and insightful biography of one of the most important, yet least well known, leaders of the Civil Rights Movement. After reading Ransby s book, I have learned of the immense contributions that Ella Baker has contributed to history, more specifically the Civil Rights Movement. Furthermore, I have gained a greater understanding of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was amazing to see how much Ella Baker was ahead of her time. She was a strong, independent woman decades before there was a women s movement. I was very interested in the issues that she had with Dr. Martin Luther King and his style of leadership. To me it was important to see that not all the leaders agreed but knew to respect each other because they were fighting for the same cause. It was also interesting to see how Ella Baker still contributed to organizations that were not doing thing her way in order to help build coalitions. This I feel was in important factor in the success of many organizations during the movement. She worked to advance what she called group centered leadership long before a belief in the importance of internal and participatory democracy within our progressive organizations was widely shared. She was a coalition builder. Principles were essential, but she was rarely if ever tactically rigid. She understood that the way individuals lived their personal lives could not be divorced from their political activities. Ella Baker must be the most underrated figure in the civil rights movements. There are plenty of Presidents who have done less to shape their own times than Ella Baker. She decisively shaped two of the most important national civil rights organizations the NAACP and the SCLC, and was the single most decisive figure in a SNCC. On the very next pitch Jake tries to bunt again and actually gets it down the third base side, a perfectly placed bunt in my opinion, and takes off for first. The catcher springs out of his squat and goes to get the ball, he throws, and SAFE! screamed the umpire named Donovan. Jake had made it, and was most likely going to get the steal sign. All of our team, The Complete GameRangers, were on the fence pounding it relentlessly, and screaming random gibberish. We all calm down as our catcher Ry, whose hair is lucky , comes up. • 32. Carnivore Evolution Millions of years ago a dinosaur group, theropods, consisted of killing machines like the T Rex and the velociraptor, but recent research has proven that these bloodthirsty carnivores evolved into birds, trading their sharp teeth for beaks. This mind blowing realization has confused many people for years, but Amy Balanoff reported her findings to show proof of the line of evolutionary descent from horrendous beast to feathery pet. Balanoff worked with a team of evolutionary biologist, their leader being Shuo Wang, discovered the loss of teeth for beaks were normal in growth process of theropods. As the dinosaurs would grow, a beak would naturally grow across their face which would stop the formation of teeth. Wang discovered through earlier ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By conducting both comparative and statistical evidence on thousands of vertebrates, the team hoped to find some understanding as to the characteristics of animals that develop beaks. Their results showed that beaked animals are more likely to be hatched from eggs the embryos had a structure on the tip of their snouts made of keratin, something found in fingernails; using this they could break through the egg and then shortly after it would fall off. Josef Stiegler connected their findings to the fossil records and stated that the transitions they saw in the jaw may have been the start of this evolution from killer reptile to bird. Obviously as this evolution progressed, the theropods would transition earlier and earlier until it happened in the embryo stage. The team also hypothesized that a protein called BMP4 may have stopped teeth from growing and start creating beaks, but Stiegler disagreed with this because he felt like additional research needed to be conducted. Scientist Stephen Brusatte read the analysis and thought the study is a great example of how fossil genetics can be used to show the comparisons between modern birds today and terrible dinosaurs. In my opinion, I don t find the study that far fetched. I believe that this could be a possibility to how we have birds today. Obesity is the number one cause for heart problems in America, so we should try to encourage the children to make healthy choices, and pack lunches from home. Another reason to pack lunches from home, is that children these days tend to be picky eaters. If a child doesn t like what is served, then they wont eat it. Student who don t eat full lunches are shown to do poorly on test, and have trouble studying. People use these items, such as technological appliances, to fulfill their daily wants and needs. However, most people do not realize the negative effects of such a heavy reliance on material goods. In The Allegory of the Cave, Plato shares his idea that an overdependence on items can negatively affect ethical decisions. This idea is discussed in The Veldt, by Ray Bradbury, The Truman Show , by Peter Weir, and Daniel Key s novel, Flowers for Algernon. Throughout all three stories, characters greatly rely on items and other people, leading them to make unethical decisions. In some cases, people are objectified as a result of being needed, desired, and treated unfairly. In The Veldt, The Truman Show, and Flowers for Algernon, an overreliance on items leads to a loss of focus on morals and what is ethically important. In Bradbury s The Veldt, the Hadley children, Peter and Wendy, lose a sense of right and wrong because their reliance on technology distracts them from their morals. The children lose compassion and understanding for others, engage in violence towards their parents, and make hurtful and unethical comments towards family members. Their overreliance on technology distances them from being able to work and provide for themselves.
