Visual Analysis Of Cahokia
As a representative artist of Cahokia, my duty is to draw and paint the everyday weather of the
region near the Mississippi River and to express the daily routine and lifestyle of the Cahokians
through aesthetic works such as documenting pictures or using writing letters on the wall as an
essential record for the Cahokian government. After the abundant food production in Cahokia,
various people from different regions visited and adapted in the new kind of civilization. People
created colorful wooden homes, monuments, and towers to praise the grateful weather as it
provided right amount of sunlight, rain and wind in order to grow crops to satisfy and fulfil the
stomachs of large population. Moreover, the climate did not have abnormal patterns throughout
most of the periods. To appreciate this stable climate, I decided to express the clear sunrise that is
observed from the top of the Monk s Mound.

Jay Gatsby is a Sympathetic Character in Fitzgerald s...
In F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby provides the reader with a unique outlook on
the life of the newly rich. Gatsby is an enigma and a subject of great curiosity, furthermore, he is
content with a lot in life until he strives too hard. His obsession with wealth, his lonely life and his
delusion allow the reader to sympathize with him. Initially, Gatsby stirs up sympathetic feelings
because of his obsession with wealth. Ever since meeting Dan Cody, his fascination for wealth has
increased dramatically. He even uses illegal unmoral methods to obtain hefty amounts of wealth to
spend on buying a house with Marie Antoinette music rooms, Restoration Salons, dressing rooms
and poolrooms, and bath rooms with sunken baths. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, it is his obsession with wealth that leads to his tragic end. Secondly, the reason of
the readers sympathy is Gatsby s loneliness. Gatsby is perpetually enveloped by solitude. Despite
the Hotel de Ville (11)mansion, the car and the luxuries that would overwhelm most people, Jay
finds no sense of belonging amongst those objects. Gatsby, standing alone on the marble steps
and looking from one group to another (51) does not mingle with his guests. Even at his own
party, surrounded by glamour and people, he is still alone. In fact, he is a stranger. Only handful
of his guest knows what he actually looks like, to others, he is a mystery. Equally important,
Gatsby enclose himself in isolation, he [gives] a sudden intimation that he [is] content to be
alone... he [is] trembling. (25) He has a whole mansion to himself yet he chooses to stand outside
and ponder. Perhaps he is trying to find a way to unlock himself from the life of solitude.
Finally, Jay Gatsby s delusions draws more pity for him. Daisy comes from a rich family and
chances of her ending up with Gatsby, a poor soldier, is totally unrealistic. Furthermore Gatsby
wants Daisy to go to Tom and say: I never loved you (105) but Daisy asserts that [she] can t say
[she] never loved Tom...It wouldn t be true. (126) Jay cannot grasp the present reality that Daisy
could not leave Tom permanently, especially when the fruit of their love is already three years of
age.

Orcs Gender Roles
Since the advent of film and television, there has been a new medium to spread books. Some of
the most paramount movies in the early twentieth century that are based on books were those
belonging to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Lord of the Rings trilogy helped changed the focus
on some areas of film. As explained by Gray, Peter Jackson s Tolkien trilogy brought epic fantasy
back into cinemas and the mainstream in a major way. Suddenly, Orcs were in vogue. Wizards
were significantly less lame. ... Huge box office figures meant studios had to take the D D
audience seriously and rushed to greenlight the next big thing in dragon slaying the resulting

Eowyn goes to war, despite the fact that women were not allowed to pick up arms, let alone go
into battle. By going to battle, Eowen becomes a metaphor for the strength and bravery that
women often display.. In a similar manner, it was Eowyn who was able to kill a Nazgul, whereas
none of the men were able to kill the Nazgul. Giving Eowyn the ability to kill a Nazgul, whereas
men are not given the ability to do so implies that some women have more power than men.
Similarly, the juxtaposition of her going to war with that of her sitting next to ThГ©oden
indicates that women are seen or taught to be less strong than white, whereas they are not.
Similarly, Galadriel is not always depicted in a negative light. As stated by Glenn, Ginsberg and
King, Her voice was clear and musical, but deeper than a woman s wont. Her wisdom,
comparable to Gandalf s and Elrond s, is revealed when she admits to having initiated the
meeting of the Council that created the Fellowship. (Glenn, Ginsberg, King, 2011) Essentially,
Galadriel is depicted as having the same level of wisdom and intelligence of men. This becomes a
metaphor for how women have the same level of wisdom and intelligence as men. Similarly,
Galadriel is one of the few people that is always depicted wearing white, which represents purity, as

Compare And Contrast The Great Gatsby And The King s Speech
I have had the privilege to study two compelling masterpieces this year. The enthralling novel The
Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald and the exceptional visual sensation that is The King s Speech .
The cultural context alludes what aspects are relevant to the society of that world and their daily
lives. I was very intrigued when comparing both of these texts.
While the texts presents very different worlds there are some striking similarities. Ultimately each
text creates its own unique universe which impacts the protagonist in a variety of ways.
Setting
The king s Speech is set in England during the time period of 1925 1939. This was a very tense
period since England was still recovering from The Great War and was leading to the Wall... Show

In The King s Speech The main protagonists are either members of the English Royal family or a
family man from the colonies in middle class. A moment of class snobbery was availed in the
film when Bertie and Elizabeth went to Balmoral castle to attend one of David and Wallace s
extravagant parties. This itself was a red flag to the Duke and Duchess since the royal family
doesn t throw such informal and decadent parties since they too respected and classy for events
like that. Elizabeth s short wit and tempered and vivid when Wallis greets them informally and
acted as if everything was hers. This was evident in the mise en scene showing her close up with
the expensive chandelier overhead. Elizabeth rudely brushed her off then stated I was invited on
behalf of the king . Afterwards her and Churchill discussed how a commoner like her couldn t
marry David. This proves the class snobbery that is present in The King s Speech
In The Great Gatsby we also see this exact same class consciousness at myrtle and Tom s
apartment. This is evident when Lucille stated I almost made mistake too. I almost married a
little kike who d been after me for years. I know he was below me. Everyone kept saying; Lucille,

Summary Of The Land Use Act In Nigeria
In, The Land Use Act, 1978 author J.K Agbosu considers the role of the act in the context of class
relations in Nigeria. Namely, Agbosu (1988) argues that The Land Use Act, 1978, is a product of
the inherent contradictions of the colonial and neo colonial dependent, pseudo capitalist. economic
structures established in Nigeria since colonial times (1). Agbosu furthers this argument by
proposing that the reason that the act, is in part contradictory to the norms of everyday Nigerians
is the failure of legislators to look beyond their own classed perspectives and consider, [a] solution
that not only abolished private ownershiprights in land but also abolished private ownership of
other means of production (1). Indeed, Agbosu takes a decidedly Marxist perspective in his
analysis of the law. However, the crux of the argument, which is that the post Colonial state offers
its citizens no new possibilities in its application of citizenship rights, is valuable to the discussion
of democracyin Africa. In his article, J.K Agbosu notes that the Land Use Act is in tension with
traditional conceptions of land within Nigeria. In the pre colonial era, in most societies, land was
viewed as communal property rather than a commodity; in other words, land was based around
kinship ties. The purpose of the Land Use Act is to divest communities, and their respective leaders,
of their shared role in the ownership of land and place it in the trust of the State. This shift in
authority is not inherently unjust, but as Agbosu notes the movement from communal to State
ownership does not act the groundwork for an equitable distribution of the land. Rather, the act
seeks to impose a Western capitalist ideology of land ownership upon indigenous peoples. This is
evidenced in the displacement of poor Lagosians in the 1990 destruction of the Maroko slum. The
state government used the Land Use Act to legitimize their claim to the communal land, thus,
forcibly moving thousands of low income migrants. The expropriated land was then given to a
prominent and wealthy royal family; an action that would seem to contradict the alleged purpose of
the act, which was to benefit all Nigerians (Ehirim Capitalism Central ). Moreover, while

The Use Of Media And Media During The French Revolution
Media and propaganda have helped establish free societies, overthrow governments, and incite wars
throughout history. Revolutionaries utilized each to inspire and unite the populace during the
French Revolution. Persuasive newspapers and pamphlets featured opinion pieces that convinced
commoners of the drastic economic, social, and political changes needed to improve their quality of
life, role in society and potential for social advancement. Revolutionaries used art in museums and
mass distributed prints as propaganda to rally the masses with nationalistic themes of heroism,
martyrdom and the power of the people. Music and festivals also contributed by infusing the masses
with passion to unite against the monarchy and fight for the revolution. The use of media and
propaganda in the French Revolutionsystematically distributed revolutionary ideas to the people
and drastically altered the course of the movement.
The French Revolution officially began in 1789, but the monarchy made a series of disastrous
earlier decisions which created the perfect conditions for the movement to thrive and engulf the
country in chaos. King Louis XVI dedicated funds to assist the American colonists in their fight for
independence against the British. While the French succeeded in their goal, the war left France
with a depleted treasury. Peasants became dissatisfied with the government after a series of
droughts and poor harvests. Tensions were further inflamed by the high taxes the monarchy

Examples Of Sorrow In A Mercy
Sorrow: suffering from loss or afflliction; feeling grief, sadness, or regret. Everyone has
experienced a time of sorrow in their lives, a time where they struggled through life because of
something drastic that happened to them. In the novel, A Mercy, by Toni Morrison, a mysterious
character goes beyond the simple feeling of sorrow. Toni Morrison decides to name one of her
characters Sorrow, adding a much deeper side of the character. Toni Morrison s use of figurative
speech throughout the book helps show Sorrow s dynamism into someone different, letting the
audience learn that not everyone is who they always seem to be. In the novel, Sorrow is presented
to the audience as a mysterious slave, who is pretty much useless. Sorrow first joined the
household after being adopted by Jacob Vaark. Not much is known about her because she was
found along the shore with little background information. Lina, a girl who works under the same
household as Sorrow, is thinking to herself about Sorrow as the daft girl who kept wandering off,
getting lost, who knew nothing,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Toni Morrison s uses of figurative speech helped deepen the feelings that Sorrow felt. In the
beginning, Sorrow was seen as a unusual character who seemed very incapable of doing
anything. She was a useless person around the house who could not do anything right. As the
book continued, Sorrow s life started to open up. The audience starts to see Sorrow s life, with
power ful words that they can relate to. They started to see the devastation that Sorrow felt when
she lost a child, even though she barely knew how to take care of anything. Sorrow may not be
able to do anything but she knows what love is. All her life, that is what she strived for: the love
of her own baby that she did not get to experience before. But with her new baby, Sorrow s life

The Environmental Protection Agency ( Epa )
We live in a world where synthetic chemicals are routinely used for the production of essential
components of modern life. As more research emerges correlations are made, chemicals are tested,
and toxicants are identified, reengineered, and replaced with others equal in cause but unequal in
effect. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is the national authority tasked with this
dynamic approach. The EPA defines hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) as pollutants that are known
or suspected to cause cancer or other serious health effects, such as... damage to the immune system,
as well as neurological, reproductive... developmental, respiratory and other health problems (About
Air Toxics, 2015). Potential sources range from volcanic eruptions... Show more content on

Fugitive emissions include equipment leaks, evaporative losses from surface impoundments
and spills, and releases from building ventilation systems (Release Reports, 2015). Point Source
air emissions, also called stack air are emissions that occur through confined air streams such as
stack, vent, ducts, or pipes (Release Reports, 2015). This paper will hereafter discuss HAPs in
Boulder, Colorado where I was born. Boulder County is home to an estimated 313,333 people
with a median age of 28.7. Furthermore, 5% of people are below age 5, 20.3% are below age
18, and 12.2% of people are 65 or older. There are 405.6 people per square mile but that number
jumps to 3987.4 in city limits. 90.8% of the population is white. 2.42 people on average occupy
any given home, the median household income is $67,956 and 14.2% of people are living
below poverty. Lastly, 11.23% of people are uninsured (State and County Quick Facts, 2015).
Boulder is over 5300 feet above sea level with an arid, sunny climate. The Rocky Mountains
provide a backdrop that beckons residents to explore either by skiing, biking, hiking, kayaking,
fishing, or more.Toluene is the seventh largest fugitive air emission in the greater Denver area. In
2014 the EPA estimated that 22,906 pounds were released not through a confined air stream, and an
additional 65,805 pounds were released through a confined

Role of Conflict Essay
Chelsea Williams
Role of Conflict
The two stories I chose were The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin and The Carnival Dog, the
Buyer of Diamonds by Ethan Canin. Both conflicts have similar ideas, which can be compared and
contrasted as I have below. These elements include theme, setting and characters.
The first element to discus is theme. In The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin the theme is the self
independence of women. In the beginning of the story, the main character, Louise Mallard mourns
over the death of her husband, Mallard. As the story progresses, Louise Mallard grows as she
sees the new found freedom she has been given at the loss of her husband. ... she would live for
herself. There would be no powerful will bending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. He sprinted back down to the house, sat down on the stops, and decided it wasn t so bad to go
to the mountains in July. When given the chance, he ends up giving up and letting his father win.
He believes that something this small isn t worth the fight in the end. Though, later on Myron is
faced with a much larger decision. He is unhappy in medical school and wants to quit so that he
can find contentment in doing what he wants, even though he knows his father won t agree. This
was his biggest decision to escape his father but he fails. Abe dominates Myron, once again as he
always has. Myron ends up backing down and ultimately letting his father win as he always has.
Do you give?
What?
Do you give?
You mean, will I go back to school?
That s what I mean.
Look, Myron said, you re crazy.
Give me your answer.
............ I give.
In the end, Myron continues to live under his father.
The second element to discuss is the setting. The Setting in The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin
seems to have great influence towards the conflict of the story. The story seems to be set in the time
that the author, Kate Chopin lived in, around the nineteenth century. This was a time when a woman
s independence was looked down on. At this time they believed a man was needed in a woman s
life to support

In The Mood For Love
Wong Kar Wai s movies often have a particular style of murmuring, the movie In the Mood for
Love isn t an exception. Wong focuses on describing the regret and helplessness repeatedly during
the movie time. Yet the background of the movie is based on the period of 1960s in Hong Kong,
Wong keeps highlighting the city Shanghai and leaves many clues of it: the song singing in
Shanghainese in the very beginning of the movie; the Shanghainese land lady, who is willing to
sharing her room with the main character Suu, who also moved from Shanghai, and the traditional
dress of Shanghai women: Cheongsam, which Suu wears it all the time during the movie. Wong
shows his memory of Shanghai in this movie, reflecting his nostalgia by those symbols.

The Unexamined Life Is A Life Not Worth Living
What is happiness, and how can one achieve true happiness? This is the ultimate question of life
and what every person is seeking an answer to. Many feel that they have found their answer in
belonging to the faith of their choice, but what is it that their faith teaches them that brings them
happiness? The Philosophers Socrates, Platoand Aristotle all have a similar view on what
happiness is and how to achieve it. Aristotle s view is based on Plato s and Plato s is based on
Socrates teachings; this is why they are similar but they are all important and different with each
philosopher s personal views and beliefs.
Socrates was a great man who was assassinated for his beliefs on the purpose of life and how to
live happily. He presented the excellence of function to determine how a person will truly be
happiest. The true person is not what he is on the out side but what his psyche or soul is and
when that is functioning well the person is happiest. Psyche is the human capacity for reflective
thinking and also the consciousness of the soul. The unexamined life is a life not worth living.
This is a quote from Socrates that supports his views on psyche. It states that when a person does
not examine his life to find his true self, or excellence of function, that they are ignoring their true
self and that a false life is not worth the time to live it. So an examined life will find its true self or
what its function is and want to perform its function well.

The Common Misconception Of The Scientific Community
The common misconception in the scientific community is that there is only one way to get things
into space a combustion powered rocket. However, recently there have been talks and designs
floating around about other methods to travel to space. Currently the technology and tools existing
regarding space are seen as revolutionary and ahead of our time. However the possibility for even
more advanced and efficient technology is within the grasp of humanity. We first launched a rocket
to get to the moon in 1969, and since then the design for space rockets has varied slightly. The
use of space shuttles was first introduced in 1981, and since then almost no changes have been
made for space travel. In our world if you are not progressing, you are falling behind. We have
been using dangerous and unreliable rockets for 47 years now. The recent explosion that occurred
for the company SpaceX has highlighted our case and point. The current way to get into space is
not only unreliable and dangerous, but it is also highly inefficient and expensive. The main focus in
recent years is launching things into geostationary orbits, or orbits that stay in the same spot
relative to the Earth. The cost to launch a rocket into a geostationary orbit is currently around
20,000 dollars per kilogram, which is an outrageous amount of money (http://www.extremetech.com

Foreshadowing In A Prayer For Owen Meany
A Prayer for Owen Meany, a tragedy John Irving s A Prayer for Owen Meany tells the tragic tale
of Owen Meany, a peculiarly small boy through the eyes of his friend and classmate John
Wheelwright. John Irving creates a tragic effect through his use of third person narration,
foreshadowing, and symbolism. A Prayer for Owen Meanyis told from Owen s best friend s point
of view, John Wheelwright, however the novel revolves around Owen. The book opens with John
introducing Owen as someone who greatly impacted him, and saying I am a Christian because of
Owen Meany (1). This opening makes it clear that the narrator is writing this book because of
Owen Meany and that the story is centered around Owen. Throughout the book John idolizes and

Owen is a symbol of American ideals, so the loss of Owen is even more tragic because it also
stands for the loss of American ideals. Owen follows the Vietnam war and remembers
everything about it. In high school Owen is The Voice of the school newspaper and through his
participation in The Voice he expresses his ideas about the failures of America and comments
on other issues as well. Since Owen s ideas and commentary are cited as The Voice, he is
detached from who he is and he comes off as important and knowing, showing how he
symbolizes American ideals. The Voice is in line with American ideals because The Voice is
always calling out Gravesend Academy, which isn t egalitarian, and being egalitarian is a
fundamental American belief. For example, The Voice calls out the school for using a shrink for
those with learning difficulties IT SEEMS TO ME THAT PEOPLE WHO DON T LEARN AS
EASILY AS OTHERS SUFFER FROM A KIND OF LEARNING DISABILIY...WHAT DOES A

American ideals. After Owen dies, John looses faith in America because he takes all the things
Owen used to say to heart and realized that American ideals were gone. He moves to Canada and
while in Canada he can t help but continue to read American newspapers and get frustrated. He

Darkness, confused irony all words used to describe the works of Edger Allen Poe. War, Honor,

Montresor kills Fortunato by bringing him into a dark cavern and pushes him off the ledge.
Fossie kills Mary Anne by bringing her into Vietnam. Although Mary Anne does not die, her life
changes and becomes a savage of Vietnam. The ending of these stories are both dark, but in
different ways. This is what makes comparing Poe to O Brien tricky. Poe is known around the
world for his horror stories but in The Cask of Amontillado he uses the character Montresor to
provide insight on what s going on in the story. Montresor is the narrator as well as a main
character. As a reader continues reading The Cask of Amontillado they start to see a lot of irony
in what s going on, and as Dr. Charles W. Carter from The Writing for the Arts and Humanities In
The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe, Montresor is out for revenge. Poe s Gothic story
might lead the reader to believe that Montresor is diabolical and calculating. Montresor s only
concern appears to be exacting revenge with impunity. Montresor never clarifies why Fortunato
deserves punishment. The only clue Montresor offers is that Fortunato causes him a thousand
injuries until [venturing] upon insult (Poe 1). As a result, Montresor plans to bury Fortunato
alive. Unwittingly, Fortunato becomes a sacrificial lamb being led to slaughter. Montresor
carries out each detail while he smiles in the face of his victim. Montresor doesn t smile at the
thought of Fortunato s immolation because of his viciousness. Montresor smiles because the
sacrifice of Fortunato he believes brings him a great reward. Fortunato is merely a symbolic
character of a despised self in the unconscious of Montresor (Sweet Jr. 332). Fortunato is
ironically the mirror self of Montresor (Sweet Jr. 332). Montresor s desire to bury Fortunato alive
paints the psychological portrait of repression (Sweet Jr. 332). The burial of

experiences, which, deposited in each organism in the form of schemes of perception, thought and
action, tend to guarantee the correctness of practices and their constancy over time, more reliably
than all formal rules and explicit norms.
Bourdieu, Pierre, and Richard Nice. Structures, Habitus, Practices. The Logic of Practice, Stanford

The passage above, is the late 20th century author Pierre Bourdieu defined concept of the term

they become secondary compared to the concept of habitus. In fact, an example of this shift in

1. INTRODUCTION
MacBook Pro (Early 2011)
The MacBook Pro is a line of Macintosh portable computers launched for the first time in January
2006 by Apple Inc. It swapped the PowerBook G4 and after the iMac it was the second model to
be announced in the Apple Intel transition. Positioned at the high end of the MacBook family, the
MacBook Pro is currently produced in three sizes: the 13, 15, and 17 inch.
It s been nearly a year since Apple revamped its MacBook Pro line. That s a longer than usual gap
between updates, but the new MacBook Pros sport several changes ... Show more content on

After a half circle of product life cycle Apple refreshes its offer with new features and decreases
the price of the previous offer. Thus the market skimming has become the strategy and thus

year apple enthusiasts are getting the higher value of high quality and advanced features in the
closely same price which actually comprises everyday less price as well.
2.3 Place (Retailing, Online Sales Point, Combination Stores)
Based on my research the core distribution of Apple products (MacBook Pro) are done in two
stream: Retail store and Online Shopping.
Apple retail stores are located in different CBDs of different states in Australia. Using specialty
store concept Apple provides distinctive and brand value for the customers in their specialty stores.
(Apple Store, Sydney, 2011)
There are several value enhancing activities any apple stores provide like workshop, Starter session
on new offers, genius bar, youth programs, etc.
Online shopping also benefits apple customers with low price value contribution 24 hours round the
clock.
Besides resellers like combination stores sells MacBook Pro in their outlets and enhances the value
from their operations.

Digital Convergence Impact On The Film Industry
Media changes drastically over short periods of time because of digital convergence. Just in the
past decades it has become much more advanced and useful for people all around the world. There
has been an extreme advance in media technology, especially that used in film industry. This
includes the creation of analog to digital converters, technology convergence, and the changes in the
media industry and audiences. In this article, I will analysis how digital convergence impact on the
filmindustry structure, forms of consumption with the innovation of revenue models and cultural
production.
Industry Structure
In the digital era of convergent media, the most obvious about the change of cinema is the storage
which rely on celluloid that you can touch in the past. Now, however, it is stored as electronic
packets of 1s and 0s which is virtual. The changes of the cinema is not only about the film storage,
but also the productionпјЊpost production, exhibition and distribution which is the main part of the
film industry structure. In the era of celluloid, the four steps of movie is relatively independent and
has its sequence. In digital movie, whereas, the connection and integration among four parts of
industry structure are ever close.
Production Post production
Post production is overlapping with production. The digital non linear system replaced linear taped
based process reducing the cost of editing. The parallel process not only saves editing time but also

Marketing Planning Models
Assess the practical value of strategic marketing planning models to today s marketing managers.
The four P s are essential for any company wanting to implement the marketing concept,
unfortunately these tools only concern the operational side of an organisation (they identify the
wants and needs of a customer and then present them as a product). If a company wants to succeed
and survive in the future they must focus on marketing planning, this concept concentrates on
where the company currently is both internally and externally and the best way for long term
progression.
Its purpose has been described by McDonald,(1989) as to find a systematic way of identifying a

At this point the product starts to make some of the profit back, it becomes more established and

This leads onto the growth stage, profits rise considerably and the product becomes established,
the competition become aware and analyse the threat posed to them (the new Xbox).
Competitors will try to divert attention away which could effect the rate of the growth curve
(Brassington, F S Pettitt, 2007, p204). As a product reaches maturity (an example would be
coca cola) if a secure fan base has emerged the supplier must now look at keeping them interested.
If a product begins to date or tire a newer, more desirable one must be available. If this is not the
case the product will go into decline, the profits will fall and the marketing or management will be
to blame (the digital free view box).
The BCG Matrix also known as the Boston Box relates well to the product life cycle. It is
comprised of two dimensions, the first looks at the growth of a product in the market and then the

Would one ever think to be so stubborn that they would make someone chose between two people
they love dearly? Well that is exactly what Rebeckha Emerson does in Time Enough For Drums by
Ann Rinaldi. Becky is a truly astonishing character with her actions. She is a tory who married a
british officer and she is jem older sister that has great manners but always speaks her mind. She
lives in Pennsylvania with grandfather henshaw . Throughout the story she show
stubbornness, outspoken, and she carries a strong conviction about John reid and jemima.
Rebecca Emerson is about as stubborn as they come. Initially, becky made jem choice between her
and the man she loved and he was unwell.Either he had to leave or herand her child and she had
no place to go . Jem ended up choosing john so becky stuck by her word and left .This shows she
is stubborn because even though she had nowhere to go she left anyway to show jem that she was
serious about her statement. Furthermore, becky states this after canoe(a native american)gives
them supplies I want him out of the house immediately (Rinaldi 208).This quote supports the fact
that she is stubborn because it show that she dislikes canoe so strongly that even though he gave
them a great amount of supplies she still will not let him stay for supper. In addition, she thought

Analysis Of The Book Meridian By Alice Walker
Alice Walker once said, No person is your friend who demands your silence, or denies you the
right to grow. Due to the extreme patriarchal society based in the sixties era, women s voices
were often disregarded and silenced. In the historical novel Meridian, by Alice Walker, the main
female protagonist, Meridian, struggles to comply with the harsh patriarchal systems set in place
in her community, in turn, she uses her silence as a form of resistance. She has various
encounters with a man named Truman, whom she is in love with, but fears she s not good
enough because of the color of her skin. She begins articulate her thoughts and acting without
explanation. To replace her silenced voice, Walker uses third person omniscient and
characterization. Meridian is a woman with endless thoughts and questions that she neglects to
voice or ask. The root of Meridian s resistant manner stems from the uncomfortable power
struggle she has with men, like Truman, because of the expectations of women in the sixties. Men
were placed above women and women s opinions were deemed irrelevant. The author s usage of
third person omniscient reveals Meridian s subconscious thoughts during moments where her
voice is overpowered by a male character. For example, She was also tempted to add white
exchange students. But how polite she was! (Walker 108). In this scene Meridian runs into Truman
and begins a dialogue about his beliefs. Meridian is embarrassed by Truman s infatuation with white

Unfortunately the corruption within their government has left innocent people no other choice

Margaret Beaufort Pottery Case Study
Margaret Beaufort lived in a time when the ceramics industry in London and the surrounding
areas was just starting to take off (Kingston type ware). She was born into a wealthy family and
so she had many servants to take care of the cooking and cleaning (The Red Queen..., 2013). At
this time, many beautifully glazed jugs and other pots were probably used in her home. However,
most of these pots were probably glazed with a green or yellow glaze as that was the popular color
at that time (Medieval Glazed Ware). Margaret Beaufort was an esteemed womanthat probably had
some of the best quality pottery and the some of the most asthetically pleasing decorative pieces.

Plato has addressed Love from different viewpoint in the Symposium. Alcibiades speech in the

Alcibiades enters into the symposiumcompletely drunk and tries to flirt with Socratesand Agathon

Essay on Early Childhood Education and its Impact on...
Early Childhood Education and its Impact on Technology
Early childhood education is a time where young children develop important learning skills. Young
children, aged birth through approximately 8 years (young children, 2004) interact with one
another to develop social and even motor skills that they will carry with them later in life.
Development in young children involves the early years in a child s physical, social emotional,
language, and cognitive development (Baur, 1998).
Developmental aspects can be assessed by technology. Technology is growing everyday in our
society, it is becoming a big factor in the use of early childhood education.

Developmental areas include social and emotional, language, motor, cognition, and in addition a
child will make approaches towards learning as well (Davis, 1998). Language development is very
important during this time and computers help since children are exposed to them for reading and
writing purposes. Also, it gives opportunities for them to be motivated to interact with other
children if they are in groups. Research has shown that computer play encourages longer more
complex speech and development of fluency (Baur, 1998). Cognitively, technology use is
connected to children and the use of it can lead to greater motivation and self direction.
Development is very important socially, and placing children in groups or pairs helps interaction
between their peers. This helps increased levels of spoken communication and cooperation that
were demonstrated in a study.
Study of five and six year olds and how they learned in a computer enrich environment
Learning development during early childhood education is very critical. How children learn is
also very important and looked at by many researchers. A study was recently performed to look
at how kindergartener s learn in a computer classroom setting. The study was to explore children

Research Question: Relationship between family size and conformity levels.
Proposal:
The following investigation is designed to determine whether there is a relationship between the

Figure 1: Each participants common sense and campaign scores collected
Discussion:
The purpose of this research was to investigation the factors that contribute to conformity levels
for participants in year eleven. In group A, it is shown in figure 1 that the results between
campaign scores were relatively similar. Group A responded to the images in the same manner that
participants in Group B who did not receive any options from a third party. This indicates that
whatever a participates family size or sibling number was (how large or small) had an affect on the
campaign scores, making our hypothesis accepted. The hypothesis was correct as the results and
data compiled showed that the more siblings the higher campaign score would be.
The reliability of the data would not be as strong since the participants moods and/or personal
situation could vary if they were to do the experiment again, consequently changing their original
results and therefore altering the entire experiments finalised results. To improve the effectiveness
of the data, it might be better and more helpful to split into two groups based off of their moods
and how attentive they are in that time frame. If done correctly, it would help the results by making
them more even and consistent. How valid the experiment was may have come down to the

Descriptive Essay On Imaginary Friends
Imaginary friends are common for kids to play with growing up, but in my case my imaginary
friends were actual people who I just didn t know. Growing up I learned I had two biological
brothers that were adopted when I was one. I d always dreamed about what it would be like to
meet them and play with them. After sixteen years that dream became a reality.
My mom had eight kids total but only three were biological. I grew up with my five half siblings,
two were older than me and three were younger. My oldest sister, Tiffany, first told me about my
two older biological brothers when I was nine. I was super curious about them and would
constantly make up scenarios of what it would be like to meet them.
Edwin Jr is the eldest of you three and Kevin is the middle. His name should be easy to remember
since he has the same curly hair and tan skin as you, Tiffany stated while holding up baby pictures.
It became an obsession to try and find my brothers but knowing where to start was the hardest
part. As I got older I kept losing faith that I would ever find them. There were nights that I would
just look at pictures and cry. It was as if reality hit that finding them would never happen.
At the end of October my world changed. I was on a FCCLA trip and we were on our way back
from Conway when my mom texted me. She sent me pictures of these two guys and a baby. I didn
t even have to ask her who they were, I just knew that they were my brothers.
Jess, why are you crying? Are you okay? Abby was looking at me and I could see the worry in
her eyes. I don t understand why you are crying. You were just fine, she was getting worried but
the words just wouldn t come out of my mouth. Abby new that I had brothers and once she saw the
pictures she looked at me and hugged me.
What s with all the hugging? You guys are super weird, Trenton said from the front seat. He was
giving us his judgemental eyes but we just ignored him. My mom texted me and said in three
weeks we are driving to Illinois to meet them. She called me on the phone to go into more detail
and told me that their whole names were changed.

The Benefits Of Foreign Language
Verbal language is how the human race communicates. Without it, nations would be severed from
the worldly ties it needs to survive. A hundred years ago language loss wasn t a concern, but now, it
threatens the world. There is a great urgency for plurilingual people amongst the military, political,
business, and international world, particularly in the U.S. If efforts are not taken to increase foreign
language capabilities amongst the people of America, the future of cross cultural communication
will be grim. Foreign language understanding is crucial in society, and so a greater effort should be
taken to educate the students of America for the benefit of globalization.
In the United States, foreign language study is in huge decline. In the past, the U.S. has attempted
foreign language study. In fact, 100 years ago the United States foreign language study was roughly
similar to Europe s foreign language study (King). But, after the United States entered World War
I... almost half the U.S. states criminalized the teaching of German or other foreign languages in
schools (King). This was because the United States was nervous that German speakers could
transmit secret war information. Now, over the decades, foreign language study has plateaued,
especially in the U.S. In fact, in some states, fewer than 10 percent of students are learning
languages other than English, painting a grim picture of foreign language education in U.S. public
schools (Mitchell). The young students of

Chinese Culture and How It Relates to Nursing Care
Understanding what culture is and how it affects the nursing practice is essential to ensure the best
possible and appropriate care is given. All cultures are different, and what may be acceptable for
one could be an insult to another. Potter and Perry (2017) define culture as being associated with
norms, values, and traditions passed down through generations (p. 102). However, this is not the
only definition since there are many different views on what culture entails. Because of the
vastness of cultural groups, it is important that nurses have cultural competence, a good grasp of

TCM practitioners look for underlying imbalances and disharmonies behind an illness to try and
treat the patient, instead of just the disease ( Traditional Chinese Medicine, 2017). Chinese
practices, such as acupuncture and herbal treatments, have become very popular in the Western
world over the last few decades. These practices are derived from the beliefs of Qi (pronounced
chee) and Yin and Yang, which involve energy and balance. Qi, or life energy, is a central belief
in TCM and is believed to flow through a number of channels, or meridians, throughout the body
( Traditional Chinese Medicine, 2017). The meridians are different organ systems in the body,
and are categorized into yin organs and yang organs. The terms yin and yang are derived from
the Chinese belief that all things have two aspects... and that ...a balance of yin and yang are
necessary for health ( Traditional Chinese Medicine, 2017). Essentially, the relationship of yin
and yang is like two sides of the same coin; opposite, but they balance each other out. Yin is
associated with qualities that are feminine, dark, passive, and usually symbolized by earth or
water, while yang is associated with qualities that are masculine, light, active, and usually
symbolized by air or fire ( Traditional Chinese Medicine, 2017). These beliefs are what drive TCM

Opposing View Points Pipeline is the best alternative and safest mode of transporting fuel

because of lack of adequate resources to inspect them, as well as the absence of regulations

Explanation of Two Different Points of View Regarding the Topic Opponents of the use of the

Relationship Between Science And Religion
The relationship between science and religion is an arguably rigid one, the two topics presently
posing contrasting ideas in modern society. However, this relationship has been varied over the
course of time, in particular the nineteenth century. We can put forth the argument that it was not
necessarily as simple as the two being mutually exclusive concepts that continuously opposed each
other; rather the two held a complicated relationship. These apparent conflicts between scienceand
religioncan often be resultant of more complex debates, for example concerning political power. It
can also be seen that there was a continually shifting boundary between the two subjects, making it
merely reductionist to say the two were in conflict. Science and religion were in conflict to the
extent that both these concepts were adapting to the contemporary world, sometimes causing them
to clash.
During the nineteenth century, religion still remained a prevalent influence in Britain, from which
we can argue that there was no widespread conflict caused by the sciences. Britain was a
predominantly protestant country, with an estimation of attendance being made by Dr Chalmers,
from which he concluded that five eighths, or sixty two and a half per cent., of the people of a
town might attend religious services. The period also saw the revival of the evangelical
movement, from which people believed that religion should inform every aspect of daily life, and
we must spend our lives

The Prophet, Muhammad, Islam
The prophet, Muhammad founded Islam in 622 C.E. at the Arabian Peninsula. Judaism and
Christianity both originate in Palestine, but Judaism commenced over 3,500 years ago while
Christianity found its beginning in 33 C.E. Christianity was created by Christ, the son of God,
while Abraham was the man credited with founding Judaism. Assuredly, albeit Judaism, Christianity
and Islam were founded in divergent times, the religions still hold similarities in beliefs and
teachings. However, differentiations are still present and significant. In ancient times the religions
of Judaism, Christianity and Islam were founded. Admittedly, the religions of Judaism, Christianity,
and Islam hold coinciding components as well as differing sectors; including the afterlife, political
views, and their gods.
To a degree Judaism and Christianity are fairly similar, withal possessing variations. For instance,
both theologies hold devotion and loyalty to a single deity. Judaism, and Christianity both are
monotheistic religions dedicating their allegiance to God. Moreover, the texts of both religions are
comparable. The most sacred Jewish reference is the Bible, comprising of the Jewish Bible and the
New Testament. The Christian Bible is constructed from the Old and New Testament. Thus, the two
contrasting religions exemplify the same text, The New Testament. Politically speaking, in both
spiritualities the religion is separate from the state, or government. Whereas theses comparisons are

Essay about The Feminine Sea in Moby Dick
The Feminine Sea in Moby Dick
Melville s novel, Moby Dick, has only men. Melville s men s club sails a sea whose gender changes
often and whose personality is resolutely enigmatic. The feminine in MelvilleВ№s novel hides her
face in a veil of stars and behind a cloud of words.
Literally, Moby Dick is a men s club, with only a glimpse of a woman in the background, or
reflected in the stories of the sailors. They seem to have no sexuality, nor any personality. The two
full blooded, dialogue speaking characters in the novel are both servants. Mrs. Hussey ladles out
ВіClam or CodВі to Queequeg and Ishmael, bans harpoons from her house, and busies herself like
some cosmic washerwoman. In the novel, she is a laughably comic figure ... Show more content on

Later in the novel, when Queequeg comes off the whale, the dough boy gives him ginger jub, as
per Aunt Charity s orders. Stubb thunders and sends for more manly grog, then Aunt CharityВ№s
gift...was freely given to the waves. (Monkey Rope p. 419) So, even though we are told that she
has been indefatigable in her efforts, the only gifts enumerated are trivial and silly, befitting
someone who has no idea of the seriousness of the work involved. Both Charity and Mrs. Hussey
are distanced from the men and men s work of the novel; they are the servants of the club, ignorant
and silly.
The only other women in the menВ№s club exist in memory. Ishmael speaks of his best and most
conscientious step mother, sending him to bed during the daylight. Like Jane Eyre, locked up only
in his room, his visited by a phantom and the vision haunts him. This scary vision is repeated, but
happily, Ishmael wakes to have QueequegВ№s arm around him (The Counterpane). Both Starbuck
and Ahab are married and have children, though their wives are scarcely mentioned. The Pequod
rarely stops for a gam and never passes letters, so we know that Starbuck and Ahab never write
home. Just before they sight the white whale, both Starbuck and Ahab stare at the sunrise, and think
back to their families on Nantucket. Ahab cries in regret for the treatment of his wife, saying that in
marrying her, he widowed her. Starbuck entreats him to return;

Bipolar Disorder, And Depression
Bipolar Disorder, Manic Depressive Disorder, and Depression When looking at the difference
between Bipolar Disorder, Manic Depressive Disorder, and Depression there are not many
difference. One could look at the symptoms and see that with each there is a risk of moving
towards the next disorder. An individual can be diagnosed with the lowest form of depression and
if not taken care of can push the individual to the extreme without ever really knowing. Knowing
the symptoms of each disorder, taking time to have tests run, having the diagnose given, and
starting on the right track to controlling the disorder can most likely save one s life in the grand
scheme of like. When an individual thinks of Bipolar Disorder, it is believed that it... Show more

When one thinks of Manic Depressive disorder, an individuals might visualize someone being

assumptions. Manic episodes can be mild or severe depending on the extent of the mania for a
person. A few of the symptoms are decreased need for sleep (ex. One feels rested after only 2 3
hours), this is usually caused be from the mind not being able to rest. Sleep requires the mind to
relax and someone who is manic depressive tend to have their mind at full speed at all times.

Evolution Of Dogs
The dog, also know as man s best friend or more scientifically, Cannis lupus familiaris, has been
just that for 130,000 years. The dog is a descendant of the gray wolf, who lives in a much different
habitat and leads a much different lifestyle than our domestic dogs. The anatomy and physiology of
the dogcan vary greatly among its different breeds but generally speaking the dog anatomy and
physiology follow similar blueprints no matter what. To begin, the dog transitioned from wolf to
domestic dog 130,000 years ago. Molecular evidence now shows that the dog is indeed a direct
descendent of the gray wolf, also know as Canis lupus. Dogs are smaller than gray wolves. They
have shorter muzzle and smaller teeth. It is believed that dogs went... Show more content on

The domestic dog is in the biological family of dogs. This family includes foxes, jackals, and
wolves. The class dog belongs to is thr mammalia class. Their order is carnivora. Dogs are
members of the canidae family. Their genus is Cannis and their species is familiaris (Scientific
Classification of Pet Dogs).
There are many physical differences among breeds of dogs. Selected breeding by humans has
lead to artificial evolution (Evolution of Dogs). There are approximately 150 different breeds of
dogs. Within these breeds and due to artificial evolution, certain diseases or disorders can be
specific to breeds. Labradors can develop tumors, Bulldogs can have respiratory problems,
Boxers can develop cancer, and so on. As previously stated, though breeds can widely vary in
size and build, their anatomy and physiology is still that of a dog. Dogs have a fourth head of
their triceps brachii. This is known as the accessory head. They walk on their phalanges, which
are also home to their thick paw pads. Dogs sweat from their paw pads and their noses only. The
muzzle of a dog can vary between breeds as well. An English Bulldog has a much more flattened
snout than a Collie. When a dog is panting, its respiratory system is regulating its body temperature.
A dog s digestive system includes the mouth, teeth, salivary glands, esophagus, stomach, intestines,
pancreas, liver, and gull bladder. These all work together to help the body absorb nutrients, digest
food, and eliminate waste from the body (Dog and Cat

How Does Bradbury Use Figurative Language In A Sound Of...
Imagine traveling back to a world where dinosaurs still exist and there is an opportunity to go and
hunt them. A Sound of Thunder, by Ray Bradbury, is a science fiction story that follows the life of
a man named Eckles who gets the chance to go back and hunt the dinosaurs, but for some reason he
cannot pull the trigger. Throughout the story, Bradbury uses literary devices such as stream of
consciousness, foreshadow, and figurative language to engage the reader.
To paint a picture of what is happening in the story, and keep the story interesting, the author uses
stream of consciousness. Before the hunting party leaves to go to the past, Travis, the guide, talks
to Eckels about the importance of staying on the path they will walk, Eckels then realizes how a
small change can make a difference in the course of time. Bradbury then convinces the readers that

there is a terrifying description. ВЁAnd from the from the great breathing cage of the upper body

Bradbury s figurative language engages the reader and puts everything into

The Idea And Theory Of Followership
Introduction to the Literature The purpose of this chapter is to analyze available followership
literature to identify established and acceptable definitions and attributes of followership. The
idea and theory of followership has been around for centuries. Aristotle once said, Who would
learn to lead must, as men say, first of all learn to obey (Aristotle, 1895). Since the mid 1900s
researchers conducted specific studies on followership, beginning with E. P. Hollander and Wilse
Webb s study Leadership, Followership, and Friendship: An Analysis of Peer Nominations where
they assess the validity of peer nominations (1953). Interest in the study of followership
increased in the 1980s and 90s. However, followership became an independent field when
Robert Kelly and Ira Chaleff each published books with followership in their titles (Crossman
Crossman, 2011). Kelly s The Power of Followership: How to Create Leaders People Want to
Follow and Followers Who Lead Themselves and Chaleff s The Courageous Follower: Standing
up to and for our Leaders are foundational works inspiring practically every subsequent study.
From here followership literature can be categorized into two defining groups descriptive, studies
that identify actual behaviors, and prescriptive, studies that identify ideal behaviors (Crossman
Crossman, 2011). This research combines both descriptive and prescriptive descriptions of
followership and arrays them along Jon Howell and Dan Costley s

Argumentative Essay On Radiocarbon Dating
Radiocarbon dating is a scientific procedure used to calculate the age of dead specimens by the
rate of decay in their levels of C 14. Radiocarbon dating methods are deeply flawed and do not
reliably determine the age of certain fossils or the earth. This is due to the assumptions that they are
built upon. These assumptions include that the conditions on the earth have always been constant
and nothing has ever caused the C 14 levels to fluctuate. These assumptions must be true for
radiocarbon datingto be reliable. However, there is a plethora of evidence showing that these
assumptions cannot be trusted.
Radiocarbon dating is a heavily debated topic in the world today. This is primarily due to the
powerful implications it has on people s belief systems. Christians and atheists alike view
radiocarbon dating as important and need to be able to defend or support it. Findings through
the process of radiocarbon dating can help prove or disprove people s beliefs about the world.
Radiocarbon dating will always be a controversial method because of its impact on one s
worldview. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For radiocarbon dating to accurately date anything no matter its age, two facts must be accounted
for. The rate of decay of Carbon 14 and the amount of Carbon 14 in the creature at the time of its
death must be known. The rate of decay of Carbon 14 can be determined by its half life, which is
around 5,730 years. This means that every 5,730 years the amount of Carbon 14 in an organism
is cut in half. As a result, the amount of Carbon 14 would eventually dissipate to nothing in every
organism after its death. Because of this, radiocarbon dating has a limit to its accuracy. Many
times, scientists will claim that an organism was dated to be many millions of years old. However,
according to the half life of Carbon 14 and the limits that it possesses, this is

Giving Eowyn the ability to kill a Nazgul, whereas men are not given the ability to do so implies that some women have more power than men. The enthralling novel The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald and the exceptional visual sensation that is The King s Speech . The cultural context alludes what aspects are relevant to the society of that world and their daily lives. I was very intrigued when comparing both of these texts. While the texts presents very different worlds there are some striking similarities. Ultimately each text creates its own unique universe which impacts the protagonist in a variety of ways. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The King s Speech The main protagonists are either members of the English Royal family or a family man from the colonies in middle class. A moment of class snobbery was availed in the film when Bertie and Elizabeth went to Balmoral castle to attend one of David and Wallace s extravagant parties. This itself was a red flag to the Duke and Duchess since the royal family doesn t throw such informal and decadent parties since they too respected and classy for events like that. Elizabeth s short wit and tempered and vivid when Wallis greets them informally and acted as if everything was hers. This was evident in the mise en scene showing her close up with the expensive chandelier overhead. Elizabeth rudely brushed her off then stated I was invited on behalf of the king . Afterwards her and Churchill discussed how a commoner like her couldn t marry David. This proves the class snobbery that is present in The King s Speech In The Great Gatsby we also see this exact same class consciousness at myrtle and Tom s apartment. • 6. Summary Of The Land Use Act In Nigeria In, The Land Use Act, 1978 author J.K Agbosu considers the role of the act in the context of class relations in Nigeria. Namely, Agbosu (1988) argues that The Land Use Act, 1978, is a product of the inherent contradictions of the colonial and neo colonial dependent, pseudo capitalist. economic structures established in Nigeria since colonial times (1). Agbosu furthers this argument by proposing that the reason that the act, is in part contradictory to the norms of everyday Nigerians is the failure of legislators to look beyond their own classed perspectives and consider, [a] solution that not only abolished private ownershiprights in land but also abolished private ownership of other means of production (1). Indeed, Agbosu takes a decidedly Marxist perspective in his analysis of the law. However, the crux of the argument, which is that the post Colonial state offers its citizens no new possibilities in its application of citizenship rights, is valuable to the discussion of democracyin Africa. In his article, J.K Agbosu notes that the Land Use Act is in tension with traditional conceptions of land within Nigeria. In the pre colonial era, in most societies, land was viewed as communal property rather than a commodity; in other words, land was based around kinship ties. The purpose of the Land Use Act is to divest communities, and their respective leaders, of their shared role in the ownership of land and place it in the trust of the State. This shift in authority is not inherently unjust, but as Agbosu notes the movement from communal to State ownership does not act the groundwork for an equitable distribution of the land. Rather, the act seeks to impose a Western capitalist ideology of land ownership upon indigenous peoples. This is evidenced in the displacement of poor Lagosians in the 1990 destruction of the Maroko slum. The state government used the Land Use Act to legitimize their claim to the communal land, thus, forcibly moving thousands of low income migrants. The expropriated land was then given to a prominent and wealthy royal family; an action that would seem to contradict the alleged purpose of the act, which was to benefit all Nigerians (Ehirim Capitalism Central ). Revolutionaries utilized each to inspire and unite the populace during the French Revolution. Persuasive newspapers and pamphlets featured opinion pieces that convinced commoners of the drastic economic, social, and political changes needed to improve their quality of life, role in society and potential for social advancement. Revolutionaries used art in museums and mass distributed prints as propaganda to rally the masses with nationalistic themes of heroism, martyrdom and the power of the people. Music and festivals also contributed by infusing the masses with passion to unite against the monarchy and fight for the revolution. The use of media and propaganda in the French Revolutionsystematically distributed revolutionary ideas to the people and drastically altered the course of the movement. The French Revolution officially began in 1789, but the monarchy made a series of disastrous earlier decisions which created the perfect conditions for the movement to thrive and engulf the country in chaos. Many feel that they have found their answer in belonging to the faith of their choice, but what is it that their faith teaches them that brings them happiness? The Philosophers Socrates, Platoand Aristotle all have a similar view on what happiness is and how to achieve it. Aristotle s view is based on Plato s and Plato s is based on Socrates teachings; this is why they are similar but they are all important and different with each philosopher s personal views and beliefs. Socrates was a great man who was assassinated for his beliefs on the purpose of life and how to live happily. He presented the excellence of function to determine how a person will truly be happiest. The true person is not what he is on the out side but what his psyche or soul is and when that is functioning well the person is happiest. Psyche is the human capacity for reflective thinking and also the consciousness of the soul. The unexamined life is a life not worth living. This is a quote from Socrates that supports his views on psyche. It states that when a person does not examine his life to find his true self, or excellence of function, that they are ignoring their true self and that a false life is not worth the time to live it. However the possibility for even more advanced and efficient technology is within the grasp of humanity. The use of space shuttles was first introduced in 1981, and since then almost no changes have been made for space travel. In our world if you are not progressing, you are falling behind. We have been using dangerous and unreliable rockets for 47 years now. The recent explosion that occurred for the company SpaceX has highlighted our case and point. The current way to get into space is not only unreliable and dangerous, but it is also highly inefficient and expensive. Growing up I learned I had two biological brothers that were adopted when I was one. I d always dreamed about what it would be like to meet them and play with them. After sixteen years that dream became a reality. My mom had eight kids total but only three were biological. I grew up with my five half siblings, two were older than me and three were younger. However, this relationship has been varied over the course of time, in particular the nineteenth century. We can put forth the argument that it was not necessarily as simple as the two being mutually exclusive concepts that continuously opposed each other; rather the two held a complicated relationship. These apparent conflicts between scienceand religioncan often be resultant of more complex debates, for example concerning political power. It can also be seen that there was a continually shifting boundary between the two subjects, making it merely reductionist to say the two were in conflict. Science and religion were in conflict to the extent that both these concepts were adapting to the contemporary world, sometimes causing them to clash. During the nineteenth century, religion still remained a prevalent influence in Britain, from which we can argue that there was no widespread conflict caused by the sciences. Britain was a predominantly protestant country, with an estimation of attendance being made by Dr Chalmers, from which he concluded that five eighths, or sixty two and a half per cent., of the people of a town might attend religious services. Both Charity and Mrs. Hussey are distanced from the men and men s work of the novel; they are the servants of the club, ignorant and silly. The only other women in the menВ№s club exist in memory. Ishmael speaks of his best and most conscientious step mother, sending him to bed during the daylight. Like Jane Eyre, locked up only in his room, his visited by a phantom and the vision haunts him. This scary vision is repeated, but happily, Ishmael wakes to have QueequegВ№s arm around him (The Counterpane). Both Starbuck and Ahab are married and have children, though their wives are scarcely mentioned. The Pequod rarely stops for a gam and never passes letters, so we know that Starbuck and Ahab never write home. The dog is a descendant of the gray wolf, who lives in a much different habitat and leads a much different lifestyle than our domestic dogs. The anatomy and physiology of the dogcan vary greatly among its different breeds but generally speaking the dog anatomy and physiology follow similar blueprints no matter what. To begin, the dog transitioned from wolf to domestic dog 130,000 years ago. Molecular evidence now shows that the dog is indeed a direct descendent of the gray wolf, also know as Canis lupus. Dogs are smaller than gray wolves. They have shorter muzzle and smaller teeth. It is believed that dogs went... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The domestic dog is in the biological family of dogs. This family includes foxes, jackals, and wolves. The class dog belongs to is thr mammalia class. Their order is carnivora. Dogs are members of the canidae family. Their genus is Cannis and their species is familiaris (Scientific Classification of Pet Dogs). There are many physical differences among breeds of dogs. Selected breeding by humans has lead to artificial evolution (Evolution of Dogs). There are approximately 150 different breeds of dogs. Within these breeds and due to artificial evolution, certain diseases or disorders can be specific to breeds. Labradors can develop tumors, Bulldogs can have respiratory problems, Boxers can develop cancer, and so on. As previously stated, though breeds can widely vary in size and build, their anatomy and physiology is still that of a dog. Dogs have a fourth head of their triceps brachii. This is known as the accessory head. They walk on their phalanges, which are also home to their thick paw pads. Dogs sweat from their paw pads and their noses only. The muzzle of a dog can vary between breeds as well. An English Bulldog has a much more flattened snout than a Collie. When a dog is panting, its respiratory system is regulating its body temperature. A dog s digestive system includes the mouth, teeth, salivary glands, esophagus, stomach, intestines, pancreas, liver, and gull bladder. These all work together to help the body absorb nutrients, digest food, and eliminate waste from the body (Dog and Cat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. How Does Bradbury Use Figurative Language In A Sound Of... Imagine traveling back to a world where dinosaurs still exist and there is an opportunity to go and hunt them. A Sound of Thunder, by Ray Bradbury, is a science fiction story that follows the life of a man named Eckles who gets the chance to go back and hunt the dinosaurs, but for some reason he cannot pull the trigger. Throughout the story, Bradbury uses literary devices such as stream of consciousness, foreshadow, and figurative language to engage the reader. To paint a picture of what is happening in the story, and keep the story interesting, the author uses stream of consciousness. Before the hunting party leaves to go to the past, Travis, the guide, talks to Eckels about the importance of staying on the path they will walk, Eckels then realizes how a small change can make a difference in the course of time. Bradbury then convinces the readers that as well. ВЁFor want of ten mice, a fox dies. For want of ten foxes a lion dies. For want of a lion, all manner of insects, birds, countless billions of life forms are destroyed. Then, fifty nine million years later, a caveman, one of only twelve in the whole world, ... • 49. The Idea And Theory Of Followership Introduction to the Literature The purpose of this chapter is to analyze available followership literature to identify established and acceptable definitions and attributes of followership. The idea and theory of followership has been around for centuries. Aristotle once said, Who would learn to lead must, as men say, first of all learn to obey (Aristotle, 1895). Since the mid 1900s researchers conducted specific studies on followership, beginning with E. P. Hollander and Wilse Webb s study Leadership, Followership, and Friendship: An Analysis of Peer Nominations where they assess the validity of peer nominations (1953). Interest in the study of followership increased in the 1980s and 90s. However, followership became an independent field when Robert Kelly and Ira Chaleff each published books with followership in their titles (Crossman Crossman, 2011). Kelly s The Power of Followership: How to Create Leaders People Want to Follow and Followers Who Lead Themselves and Chaleff s The Courageous Follower: Standing up to and for our Leaders are foundational works inspiring practically every subsequent study. From here followership literature can be categorized into two defining groups descriptive, studies that identify actual behaviors, and prescriptive, studies that identify ideal behaviors (Crossman Crossman, 2011). This research combines both descriptive and prescriptive descriptions of followership and arrays them along Jon Howell and Dan Costley s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Argumentative Essay On Radiocarbon Dating Radiocarbon dating is a scientific procedure used to calculate the age of dead specimens by the rate of decay in their levels of C 14. Radiocarbon dating methods are deeply flawed and do not reliably determine the age of certain fossils or the earth. This is due to the assumptions that they are built upon. These assumptions include that the conditions on the earth have always been constant and nothing has ever caused the C 14 levels to fluctuate. These assumptions must be true for radiocarbon datingto be reliable. However, there is a plethora of evidence showing that these assumptions cannot be trusted. Radiocarbon dating is a heavily debated topic in the world today. This is primarily due to the powerful implications it has on people s belief systems. Christians and atheists alike view radiocarbon dating as important and need to be able to defend or support it. Findings through the process of radiocarbon dating can help prove or disprove people s beliefs about the world. Radiocarbon dating will always be a controversial method because of its impact on one s worldview. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For radiocarbon dating to accurately date anything no matter its age, two facts must be accounted for. The rate of decay of Carbon 14 and the amount of Carbon 14 in the creature at the time of its death must be known. The rate of decay of Carbon 14 can be determined by its half life, which is around 5,730 years. This means that every 5,730 years the amount of Carbon 14 in an organism is cut in half. As a result, the amount of Carbon 14 would eventually dissipate to nothing in every organism after its death. Because of this, radiocarbon dating has a limit to its accuracy. Many times, scientists will claim that an organism was dated to be many millions of years old. However, according to the half life of Carbon 14 and the limits that it possesses, this is ...
