The Architecture Of Software Defined Radios Essay
2.1ARCHITECTURE OF SOFTWARE DEFINED RADIOS
As Reed (Reed, 2002) and others have stressed out, that the benefits of SDR approach go way
beyond the multimode operations. Other benefits stem from the flexibility that comes with
programmability. For instance, it can simplify design by allowing reuse of a common RF front end
with new designs or modes of operation available through software changes. It also enables
improvements to radio performance and functionality through application of digital signal
processing (DSP) to implement adaptive beamforming, interference mitigation, and numerous
other techniques either proven or in development. As the SDR approach has gained traction, a
variety of hardware and software tools for development and exploration have become available.
These tools are broadly accessible with reasonable cost and ease of use enabling new
opportunities for engineering education and research. Examples include National Instruments
(NI) universal software radio peripheral (USRP)/ NI LabVIEW software , the Ettus Research
USRP/ GNU s Not Unix (GNU) Radio, WARP , the Lyrtech SDR Platform and the IMEC SDR
Platform. For researchers, these platforms can provide a starting point for development of
prototypes operating on live signals. Such prototypes can effectively demonstrate the practical
viability of an implementation and are a step toward end deployment.
2.2THE NEED FOR SDR
The SDR offers a wide range of economic and deployment benefits which has attracted many

The Decade Of The 1920 s
The Roaring Twenties Underneath the façade of dancing and parties, the decade of the 1920s
was a violent clash of culture between the conservative Protestants mostly from rural, small town
America and the liberal, modern city dwellers. The liberals embraced and celebrated their
newfound freedoms, such as sexual liberation, while the conservatives tried desperately to hold
onto their traditional religious standards. The World War sent many Americans abroad for the
first time and blacks were introduced to foreign societies where they were equal to whites. The
post war years saw mass immigration, which brought new religions and cultures to America.
Prohibition became law, and failed miserably to produce the moral society its supporters had
predicted. While this was a time of economic prosperity, the inability of the conservatives and the
liberals to reach a common ground on moral issues provided a backdrop for the instability and social

More women began to enroll in college and sought employment outside the home. Fashion trends
began to change and the well dressed, stylish woman of the 1920s sported short hair, knee length
dresses worn with stockings, and lipstick. It became socially acceptable for women to smoke
cigarettes and drink alcohol at cocktail parties, behaviors previously reserved for men or women
of questionable morals. Dancing among respectable women became provocative and sexual. As
relationships between men and women became more casual, premarital sex and adultery became
more common among well educated women (textbook page 561). Conservative Americans were
outraged at this decline in moral values and placed a large part of the blame on the media. Books,
magazines, music and movies exposed America s youth to new ideas about sexuality and validated
their pursuit of pleasure. Those who held to traditional, conservative values were unable to

The Ethics Of Executions Should Be Legal
The Ethics of Executions Over the past 10 years, more death row inmates have preferred execution
to facing seemingly endless years of appeals, states an ABC News article (Robinson). With the ever
increasing number of executions, the controversial debate over the legality of capital punishment
creates a divide within the population. A wedge that separates the people who support capital
punishmentis one complicated question: what role should a doctor play in executions? Doctors
should be advocates for their patients no matter what the circumstances. Despite the infraction of
American Medical Association (AMA) policy, it is important for a licensed medical
professional with the correct knowledge and experience to monitor the execution. While a doctor
should be on the scene in case of emergency, they should not play an active role in executions as
is the policy in Texas and other states. The first thing to remember is that all doctors must adhere
to the Hippocratic Oath which requires them to do no harm to their patients. However, the bounds
of this oath are widely debated on cases that span Do Not Resuscitate directives, physician assisted
suicide, executions, and anything that results in the death of a patient. In the case of executions,
AMA policy states that it is unethical for doctors to be involved except in a peripheral way
(Tanner). The AMA s stance prohibits doctors from supervising or contributing in any way even if
it is to help ease the inmate s pain

H. P. Lovecraft
H. P. Lovecraft: A Creative Case Study It is safe to say that most who enter a specific field seek
to leave a lasting impact upon that will last long after they are dead and gone. Obviously, not all
end up so fortunate; to create such a powerful legacy, one must be truly innovative and bring
something truly unique to the table. In the field of creativity studies there is a model of
understanding creativity called the Four C Model. In the article Beyond Big and Little: The Four
C Model of Creativity Big C creativity is stated to be made up of clear cut, eminent creative
contributions (2) In this model, individuals like those previously described are considered Big C
creatives. There have been many individuals in history that have gown... Show more content on

As previously stated, Lovecraft had very little success as a writer in his time. He did have a self
published magazine called The Conservative and several of his short stories were published in
the horror magazine Weird Tales, but beyond this there was little to his career. After his death,
authors that he was close friends with championed his works and even borrowed elements from
his creations. His works steadily grew in popularity over time, but he still did not receive much in
terms of accolades. He did receive a memorial in his native Providence, Rhode Island but little else
beyond that. His achievements are based in what he left

Air Canada Porter s 5 Forces
2.4.Fleet age: Air Canada has fleet of close to 400 Air crafts. It is very crucial for Air lines to
maintain the new version of air crafts in its fleet. Air Canada currently has fleet of 787 Dreamliner,
and many long range latest A330, B777 flights to serve long range destinations. Air Canada also has
purchased latest Boeing737 Max, the latest short haul flight from Boeing and has placed orders
for B787 ( latest generation of Long haul aircraft from Boeing). Maintaining the average age of

The target of Air Canada is to be the most preferred airline for flyers across the world. This can
be achieved by providing the best flying experience to the customers through connectivity and
constantly improving customer service. Other airline carriers are also trying to catch up with Air
Canada on these parameters due to stiff competition. The market has evolved in such a way, that
all the players are trying to beat each other. This finally helps the customers as they have a wide
variety of options to choose from.
The indirect competitors of Air Canada are cruises and trains for longer and shorter distances
respectively. Cruises are known for their luxury and excellent travelling experiences. They are
indirectly competing with airline industry for the same customer base. Also, over shorter distances,
some customers prefer rail services over airlines due to being the cheaper mode of transport.
What competitive advantages and disadvantages do you your competitors have, especially as they
relate to the service component?

Testing Of Faith Research Paper
The devil is always roaming the world to tempt us and to sabotage our faith in God, but God uses
multiple test to develop our faith in Him. We as human being must be tested by faith in order for
God to trust us with His word. False faith fails in times of us been tested in our trial, but crazy
faith helps us to grow and mature in areas to edify Gods Kingdom. This clarifies why God
authorized the three black Hebrew men who names were, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to be
tested by their faith. God also consented for them to be thrown into the fiery furnace for their faith
to be developed. In 1 Peter 1:7 says, These have come so that your faith of greater worth than gold,

This word does not mean a helper, worker, nor servant it is simple means someone who owns an
individual. When I look at the word slave it is describes as an insecure person that is in a dark
place and looking for a way out to be free. It is also a cruel, oppressive, and a person that is held
hostage from being happy. In I Corinthians 7:21 Were you a slave when you were called? Don t
let it trouble you although if you can gain your freedom, do so. (NIV) This scripture is letting the
reader know that every human being on this planet have an opportunity to be free. In order to be
free you must be accordance with the Word of God. No person should remain in such a condition
that causes them to die mental and physically. Jesus Christ has given man and woman a chance to
be free of this world and to be able to be free you must Seek God with all your heart, might and all
of your soul. In Proverbs 3:6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
God will do just that and if the people will be a slave for Christ then all of their bitterness, hate,
discomfort, unforgiveness will no longer be a slave to the devil. God is the creator of the
universe and He keep His promises to human kind and His Word never failed them. When
humankind obey His Word and become His slave they will have a prosperous life, and to be a
slave master to Christ, people must trust

Playboy Research Paper
I was raised and I think it probably was a cause and effect correlation here in a very Puritan home
and there were very few hugs and kisses in my home. No education or conversation about sex. I
grew up believing in fairly traditional views and values about sex. I didn t have sexual
intercourse for the first time until I was out of college and I had spent two years in the army and
it was with the girl I was planning on marrying. And she was my first wife. I believe that was
typical of my peers. My friends and classmates and chums were all pretty much the same. It was
the typical Midwestern, middle class life. Very different than life today ( Hugh Hefner Discusses
Playboy s Legacy, par. 3). Those are the words of Hugh M. Hefner, an American adult publisher
who was just the average Puritan raised fellow before his sexually driven Playboy enterprise took
the world by storm in the 1950s. But this out of the box... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay On How Did Andrew Jackson Act Like A King
It is clear from the documents that Andrew Jackson acted like a king. One reason that Andrew
Jackson acted like a king was because he owned slaves throughout his lifetime. Document 7 states
that he owned the most slaves when he was president. He acted like a king because you can not
own the common man if you are the common man. This means that if Andrew Jacksonwas the hero
of the common man, he would not be able to own slaves. The slaves WERE the common men. If
Andrew Jackson was one of them he would ve been working for someone, but instead he acted
like a king because he was the one having common men work for him. In class we learned that
during Jackson s lifetime, he owned 300 slaves! That is a lot to people to own and have work

How Does Montresor Plan To Kill Fortunato
The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as best I could; but when he ventured upon insult, I
vowed revenge. ... I must not only punish, but punish with impunity. (Poe, 233)
Some of Montresor s very first words when he is telling the story show that he wants revenge
against Fortunato. By saying, I must not only punish, but punish with impunity, it is shown that he
intends to get away with the deed he plans to commit.
It must be understood that neither by word not deed had I given Fortunato cause to doubt my
goodwill. I continued, as was my wont, to smile in his face, and he did not perceive that my smile
now was at the thought of his immolation. (Poe, 234)
By this point in the story, Montresor is clearly planning to kill Fortunato. While to Fortunato he
appears friendly and cheerful, he is secretly thinking of ways to murder his friend. Montresor does
not want Fortunato to suspect anything, as is shown in the sentence, It must be understood that
neither by word not deed had I given Fortunato cause to doubt my goodwill. ... Show more content

Essay On How To Shoot A Baseball Bat
One of the hardest things to do for nearly any athlete is to hit a baseball. Some of the greatest
sports heroes ever, couldn t but the bat on the ball no matter how hard they tried. Even players
talented enough to make it professionally, have an on base success rate of less than 33%.
Hitting a baseball is difficult, but consistent contact can be made if you swing properly. Here are
some three tips on how to swing a baseball bat correctly, great suggestions for any level of
competition.
Solid Foundation
A good baseball swing starts with your base. You need a good foundation to productively make
contact with a baseball. When your foundation is unstable, your swing will be erratic; as well will
be the results. Work on stable stance that establishes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The component they all have in common is sturdiness. Feet are spaced approximately twice the
width of your hips, with slightly bent knees and your body weight shifted towards the balls of your
feet.
Open Your Hips
This is one of the more difficult aspects of properly swinging at a baseball. When your hips open
to soon, you will be behind the pitch. Opening your hips too early will cause you to swing over
the ball, or be too far out in front.
Rotating your hips at precisely the exact instant the bat makes contact with the ball is how to
generate the most power from your swing. The most accomplished hitters refer to this concept, as
launching your hips. The stance and hip rotation are where a hitter s power is generated.
Can t Hit What You Can t See
Tracking the ball is one aspect of hitting a baseball. It cannot stop at any point during your swing.
If your eyes drift, so will your head. When you pull your head off the ball, you will compromise
your swing.
Most of the time you ll miss the pitch completely, or at best make poor contact. To keep you head
on the ball, never take your eyes off the ball. The best hitters profess to actually seeing the ball
make contact with that bat. Good hitters insist, you cannot hit what you cannot see, so focus on the
ball to help keep your head

The Strong Themes And Views Of Heavy Metal Music
The strong themes and views in heavy metal music, including but not limited to environmental,
religious and political views have over decades, created a community and culture among
listeners and musicians alike. Because of common ideas among artists, some of which could be
seen as transgressive, all creativity within the culture is respected and praised no matter what
sort of background it has come from. Visual art is a huge part of heavy metal as there are so
many different subgenres of the music that a unique album cover or poster will help listeners
instantly recognize a band or even genre. Three modern heavy metal bands, Gojira, Mastodon
and Baroness will be explored to show how visual artists interpret this type of music in their
practices. Various other bands and subgenres will also be mentioned, describing visual aspects
of certain styles of heavy metal. Heavy metal originated in the early 1970 s, with bands mainly
coming from the UK and USA, who emerged from rock, and rock and roll music from the
previous two decades, but also took influence from various types of blues and psychedelic rock
music. To this day there are still debates on which band was this first ever to be known to play
heavy metal. Fans from the UK will say Black Sabbath were the original heavy metal band,
emerging from the working class of Birmingham, whereas USA fans favour Led Zeppelin coming
from the hippie movement of the 60 s. No matter who came first, heavy

how he came to hear about a pork product called pickled pig lips . Edge describes in detail about
meeting the owner of Farm Fresh FoodSupplier and listening to the owner Lionel Dufour, give a
history about how he came to making a business of packaging pickled pig lips. Lips are all meat,
Lionel told me earlier in day. No gristle, no bone, no nothing. Their bar food hot and vinegary,

When the first attempt to start a meat business failed, Dufour s dad started buying pig lips from

his story, Edge describes how he had to muster up courage to actually try the famous pickled lips.
Meanwhile back at Jesse s Place I finish my third Bud, order my fourth. Now, I tell myself, my
courage bolstered by booze, I m ready to eat a lip. (83) Edge tries to get himself together by taking
a suggestion from a local and eating the lip with chips. I pull from the bag a coral crescent of meat
now crusted with blond bits of chips. When I chomp down, the soft flesh dissolves between my
teeth. It tastes like a flaccid crackling, unmistakably porcine, and not altogether bad. The chips help,

At later stages of an autoimmune disease such as SLE, autoreactive lymphocytes may begin to

more antigen is released and more antigen presenting cells become involved, secondary targets

The Six Primary Processes Of The Digestive System
The digestive system is an organ system which consists of a group of organs working together to
convert food into energy and nutrients which helps to maintain the body. The organs that make up
the digestive system include the pancreas and salivary glands, small intestine, liver, stomach and
large intestines.
The function of the digestive system is to digest and absorb. Digestion is the breakdown of food
into smaller molecules which are them later absorbed in the body. The digestive system is divided
into two major parts: the digestive tract and the accessory organs. Inside the mouth there are
accessory organs which help with the digestion of food such as the teeth, tongue and salivary
glands. The six primary processes of the digestive system include:

Teeth are hard organs found along the anterior and lateral edge of the mouth. Each tooth consists
of a bone like structure called dentin which is covered by a layer of enamel. Enamel is the
hardest substance in the body. The teeth are designed for cutting and grinding food into smaller
pieces. The tongue is a small organ which is covered in a thin, bumpy, skin like layer. The taste
buds on the surface of the tongue detect taste molecules in food and connect to nerves in the
tongue to send taste information to the brain. The tongue also helps to push food toward the
posterior part of the mouth for swallowing. Salivary glands produce watery secretion known as
saliva. Saliva moistens the food and begins the digestion of carbohydrates. The body used the saliva
as a lubrication as food passes through the oesophagus. The oesophagus is a muscular tube which

Aboriginal Australian Displacement Analysis
Displacement can be defined as forcible removal of people from their home environment and
community. For Aboriginal Australian s displacement began in the 1880 s, after the European
settlement, and a number of Government Acts were introduced to assert power onto Aboriginal
Australia s and educate them on a Western culture (Harrison Sellwood, 2016). As a result, the
displacement of Aboriginal Australian s from their land increased diseases, and destruction of
culture and languages (Hampton Toombs, 2013, p. 37) which continues into the new century. The
1905 Act gave the Government and Police power to remove any Aboriginal Australian s to a reserve
which were established to house all Indigenous Australian people in one location. The Government
thought they were providing Indigenous Australian people with special treatment (Craven, 2011),

The impact of losing a child was devastating for mothers and fathers, often resulting in death by
suicide (Harrison Sellwood, 2016), domestic violence and drug addiction, as well as mental
health issues. Up to five generations of families could feel the impact of the stolen generation,
which can impact on education (Harrison Sellwood, 2016, p. 63) as well as higher risk of student
s having emotional and behavioural issues (Craven, 2011). Craven (2011) also explains these
factors can contribute to low school attendance, which is significantly higher the non Aboriginal
Australian people. For example, a small town called Warrego in the Northern Territory had a
school being run a middle aged couple. The school s attendance rate school was low as the children

Elizabeth Bay house that was built between 1835 and 1839 as the home of Alexander Macleay
became one of the Australian historic houses and opened as a museum in 1977. This is a critical
analysis of comparing and contrasting between the historic and contemporary design. The first
object that has been chosen from Elizabeth Bay housewas the cabinet (picture 1) that was made for
Alexander Macleay in the late 18th century and the second object is contemporary cabinet which is
called Delphine Cabinet (picture 2) made by the company named Coco Republic design. In this
critical analysis, firstly it will demonstrate the detail information of each item. Secondly, it will
explain the significance between the two objects that related to the international design movement
during their time.
And finally, it will show the analysis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sodic Soils in the United States
In North America, sodic soils are mostly found in the northern Great Plains of the United States.
Sodic soils develops on glacial deposits and till of saline shales (Heck and Mermut, 1992). The
presence of a fluctuating water table, landscape position, topography, parent material
permeability elevate the sodicity on glacial deposits (Wilding et al., 1963; Lewis and drew,
1973; Munn and Boehm, 1983; Seelig et al., 190; Richardson et al, 1992). The total area of North
Dakota in the United States is about 18.4 million hectares and of these 1.9 million hectare area are
considered as sodic and distributed across several parent materials (Web SoilSurvey, 2013). Sodic
soils are characterized by high sodium (Na) concentration in cation exchange complex. Which is
about greater than 15% and defined as the soil with high sodium as compared to calcium and
magnesium (Salcon, 1997, Soil Taxonomy, 1999). Sodic soil is one of the problematic soils which
weaken the soil structure of the soils (Rengasamy and walters, 1994). So it is important to study
these soil in detail by physical, chemical and micro morphological method and in relation to
environment.
The typical morphological or physical features of the area with sodic soils were study in the field.

Lydia Is Not The Wisest Person
What would you do if you discovered that the person you loved was a liar? In the book Pride
and Prejudice, a character by the name of Lydia falls in love with George Wickham. Lydia ignores
everything that the rest of her family says and marries George Wickham without their consent. All
who know this story and have any common sense can agree that Lydia was not the wisest person.
She makes a poor marriagechoice when she decides to run away with Mr. Wickham for three
reasons: Lydia was practically a child, Mr. Bennet her father, does not think too highly of Mr.
Wickham, and Mr. Wickham was not the same man in public as he was in private.
The first factor in her decision is that Lydia is still practically a child. Lydia, being very immature...

Wickham is not the same man in public as he is in private. Having a dreadful habit of gambling,
Mr. Wickham s debt steadily increased. Not having many finances with which to provide for Lydia
meant that she does not have a solid future. Also, Mr. Wickham is irresponsible with what little he
does have. George Wickham successfully manipulates many of the people whom he encounters to
suit his purposes.
Some people believe that Lydia made the correct decision when she chose to marry George
Wickham. During the early 1800s women were brought up to be able to run the house and not
necessarily to be well educated individuals. Marrying well and carrying on the legacy of the family
was the most important thing for women of that time. Her desperate need for attention has a major
impact on Lydia s choice. Since Lydia often acts like her mother, she does not think things through.
Not to mention the fact that being caught up in the thrills of love Lydia fell for Mr. Wickham, and
cannot be swayed to reconsider. Even though some people believe that Lydia made the correct
decision by marrying Mr. Wickham, she did not think through what consequences her actions could
have on her future, and did not worry about how her love, George Wickham, would provide for her

Enkidu And Gilgamesh Relationship Essay
In The Epic of Gilgamesh by N.K. Sandars, the relationship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu is one
of extraordinary measure. Enkidu was created solely for the purpose of being a match for
Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh and Enkidu s relationship developed quite strongly over time. In the
Afrocentric community, their relationship would have been described as ride and die , an eternal or
everlasting relationship. The middle class suburban community would interpret the relationship
between the two as a bromance, a relationship or friendship between two men that is extremely
close but does not involve sex (Dictionary.com). The LGBT community would describe Gilgamesh
and Enkidus connection as one with no barriers. All communities could call the relationship
between Gilgamesh and Enkidu love because of they way the two sacrifice for each other. Enkidu

Who Is James Fenimore Cooper s The Last Of The Mohicans
For this book report I chose to read an historical novel called The Last of The Mohicans by James
Fenimore Cooper. It is the second book of the Leatherstocking Tales pentalogy and the best known.
The Last of the Mohicans is set in 1757, during the French and Indian War when France and
Great Britain battled for control of North America. During this war, both the French and the British
used Native American allies, but the French were particularly dependent, as they were outnumbered
in the Northeast frontier areas by the more numerous British colonists. The story takes place in the
territory of the Great Lakes of the United States during the last war that had England and France for
the colonization of that territory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lifelong Health Benefits of Mandatory Genetic Screenings
Since their development and introduction to the field of medicine more than a century ago, genetic
screenings have become incorporated in many fields of healthcare, including reproductive health
and cancer prevention. Genetic screening is a method of identifying genetic disorders through the
study of an individual s DNA. They can be used to determine predisposition for various disorders
such as Alzheimer s, breast cancer, and sickle cell anemia. Genetic screenings inform individuals
about their state of healthand can help them make efficient choices in regard to diseasetreatments

Despite their benefits for individual and public health, genetic screenings can lead to social stigma
against those with genetic disorders. Since the introduction of mass genetic tests, there has been a
legal debate about whether or not to release information about an individual s screening results. On
one side of the debate are those who argue that the data from genetic screenings can be used to
benefit public health through the development and improvement of treatments and public health
policy (Hodge, 2004). However, a prominent opposing side to this debate has focused on the
potential for social and even ethnic quarantine if the results of screenings are made public (Atkin,
2003). Though there is a consensus that genetic screening is beneficial in preventing and treating
diseases and poor health, many worry that releasing their results can lead to social stigma for
individuals of certain minorities simply because of their greater susceptibility to certain health
problems (Natowicz and Alper, 1991). Ethnic discrimination has indeed proved to be a legitimate
issue in regards to genetic screenings; for example, in the 1990s several states did not allow African
American individuals to wed until they proved that they did not have sickle cell anemia. Opponents
of publicly mandated genetic screenings fear discrimination against some ethnicities due to their

Lithium Ion Batteries For Electric Vehicle Batteries Essay
Introduction
A lithium ion (Li ion) battery is a type of rechargeable battery which uses a lithium ion that moves
from a positive electrode (cathode) to a negative electrode (anode) during charging and vice versa
during discharge. Lithium ion batteries are less environmentally damaging than batteries containing
heavy metals such as cadmium and mercury, but recycling them is still far preferable to
incinerating them or sending them to landfill. Lithium ion batteries are made up of one or more
generating compartments called cells. Each cell is composed of three components: an anode, a
cathode, and a chemical called an electrolyte in between them.
Lithium ion batteries are becoming more common in portable electronic devices due to their high
energy density, lack of memory effect, and high charge and discharge rate capabilities. Research
and development work is ongoing to improve safety and increase capacity, charge/discharge rate,
and lifetime. Demand for electric vehicle batteries is currently small, but it is expected to grow very
quickly. China, Japan, South Korea, France, and the United States are the major lithium ion battery
manufacturers for hybrid and electric vehicle applications.
A lot of information from different sources was gathered with the purpose of comparing different Li
ion batteries mechanisms, cathode and anode materials, structure and fabrication procedures, and
their respective advantages and disadvantages.

Happiness Is The Most Important Aspect Of The Mind
Buddhists believe happiness is being able to realize that no matter what you think about the
circumstances that define your life, you are already good, whole and complete. It s about
recognizing the inherit potential in your mind. Happiness is being awakened to the full
potential of his own nature. People have to change their mindset in order to achieve happiness
for example someone who suffers from anxiety may have a attack they can believe they are
having a nervous breakdown or you can confront your thoughts and fears and realize have that
you re a having a nervous breakthrough. By controlling your thoughts you are able to control
your outcome of situations. Happiness is awareness and the feeling of complete and whole. In
order to achieve happiness one must first realize that every sentient being that is, every creature
endowed with even a very basic sense of awareness which can be defined by three basic aspects or
characteristics: body, speech and mind. It is important to know that the mind is essence, is the most
important aspect of all creatures that share the attribute of being sentient. It s important to
acknowledge the natural mind and that is capable of producing anything, even ignorance of its own
nature. But a compassionate mind is a diligent mind and with compassion things such as starvation
and people being slaughter would not exist.

American Slavery American Freedom By Edmond S. Morgan
In his book, American Slavery American Freedom, the author Edmond S. Morgan informs us of
the two strange births of American slavery and American freedom in the new colonial Virginia. In
this read, we saw how the new colonial Virginia experience creates a strange enigma of early
colonial freedom and slaveryand how the growth of the two develops hand in hand. The title
alone has the reader presuming the reading is focused primarily on American slavery, but to the
contrary, it is not. In defense, this book does show the injustice of slavery in early America not
only towards African Americans but to the Native Americans as well. But, Edmond s book is
long, and in some ways, very detailed. Morgan seems to delight himself in the telling of distinct
specifics and at sometimes one might find themselves wishing he would not linger so much on
all the glorious details. Believable or not, Morgan s method of approach does have a purpose
that readers will find at the end. But, as lengthy as this book is, the reader will have to be
determined to get to the end. Through his detailed work, Morgan wants to display how society
acquires its ugly, harsh and immoral traits through a gradual and dishonest system. Gradually,
event by event and law by law the construction of what seems to emerge has even readers of the
20th century horrified and appalled. Yet, at that time, society and it s up bringing appears to be the
most logical, and appropriate thing to do. We can first see

The Effects Of Globalisation On English Lingua Franca
In a globalizing world, where language governs our society extensively the dominance of English
has effects on linguistic and communicative inequality between native and non native speakers
(Tsuda, 1999). Research on globalisation argues strong evidence that English is the lingua franca or
international language and communication of today. But to what extent has globalisation
progressed through language? And how has this discourse been linked to provide social, economic,
political and technological hegemony? The purpose of this essay is to critique the effects of
globalisation on English lingua franca, with reference to international communication. It will
identify the western influence of the sprawl of the English language in global markets and whether
these enhance international processes. By comparing and contrasting the ideas from Martin Deway
(2008) in English as a Lingua Franca and Globalisation and Yukio Tsuda (1997) The Hegemony of
English and strategies for Linguistic Pluralism , the critique will provide an analysis on the positive
and negative implications that English has globalized through.
Language plays an important role in society; it provides an important tool for conveying social
identities and contributes to the relationship building process (East, 2008). It defines us by ethnic
appearance, age, gender and classifies societal status (East, 2008). Yet the one language that has

During the period of both wars, the U.S. committed to preventing further growth of communism.
During the Korean War, the South gained backing and assistance of the U.S., reasoning that the
government of North Korea were wanting to pursue the expansion of their communism towards the
south of Korea. With the increasing growth of American troops, air and naval forces, and strategic
combat, the intervention of the U.S. slowed the North Koreans from advancing south. American
involvement in Vietnam was an implementation of the Containment Policy, which was a the
obligation of U.S. foreign approach makers to terminate the expansion of communism (Vietnam

A difference between the wars were that the United Nations took a vital part in the Korean War.
This made the Korean War in which an international organization played a major role. After the

Sports Rivalries and Its Impact on people in the Sports World My research explored, is about how
the pride in one s team can impact a community and the human need to feel like a winner. Also the
emotional well being on an individual or community. Sometimes an aggressive action by the
opposing team turns to hatred and that s a point that can elevate into a rivalry. A fan is someone
who actually dedicates part of their every day to the teams her or she follows. That goes for even
the days their team doesn t perform the way they should have, because not every team can win
them all. There are some sports fans out there and others who are more into the game and or team
they show pride in are called fanatics. Both, fans and teams often view aggressiveness directed
toward them as disrespectful. Sports rivalries are what fans and even what some of the athletes
playing in the sports live for and wait the long season just to play in that one game. A lot of
things or factors go into a rivalry to make it a good one . Some examples include how aggressive
the teams may be, any backstabbing going on. For example if a player gets traded or leaves the
school and finds itself playing his former team, Local pride, and the fan environment surrounding

The Evolution Of Tetra Pods
It is often debated which species share common ancestors, in particular, how closely related
amphibians, mammals and osteichthyes are. The evolution of tetra pods, or four legged animals,
from aquatic animals such as fish can be traced back 365 million years ago to the Devonian, 408
360, mya, and evidence shows that this evolution was divergent in nature (Freeman, S. 2011; Myer,
A and Zardoya, R. 2004). Divergent evolution, also sometimes termed adaptive radiation, occurs
over many geological times and gives rise to a number of new species that all occupy different
habitats and show characteristics that assist in survival and reproduction under their natural
selection pressures (Kinear, J.F. 2000). Variations in these essential survival

2011). Different organisms can evolve in similar ways even if they are not similar by descent
from a common ancestor and this is known as homoplasy (Hawks, J. 2005). Classification of
animals is an important field of biology, as new knowledge about genetics, anatomy and
evolutionary relationships often leads to new thoughts on how different groups of organisms are
related. In the biological systems of classification, all organisms are divided and classed into
increasingly specific groups, starting with the kingdom, and finally being classed down to their
genus and species (Huxley, L; Watter, M. 2005). Animals are either vertebrates or invertebrates, and
this determines what phyla they belong to. All vertebrates, for example are all classed under the
chordate phylum, meaning that they all evolved from an ancestor that had a notochord along the
back (dorsal) side. Mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians and birds are all chordates. Studies on
vertebrates have revealed that progressive evolutionary adaptations, such as improved respiration,
efficient reproduction and paired muscular appendages enabled the vertebrates to survive in a wider
range of habitats and on land. The development of the earliest vertebrates and the transition from

Community Vs. Perception Of Alcohol
Ian Markle 10/03/2016 Community vs Paranoia The influence of alcohol has been everywhere
in human history and is undoubtedly the most dominant psychoactive substance in every human
culture. It was critical for developing countries where alcohol was key to trade. (Awkward)
Alcohol was one of the main three psychoactive products (with tobacco and caffeine) which
helped drive the globalization of trade from the 17th century. Today, the consumption of alcohol
has become more omnipresent because of how diversified drinks have become. Drinking is an
increasingly globalized cultural practice because alcohol is a substance with a global history.
Producers of these alcoholic beverages tend to be large corporations reliant on innovative
marketing techniques. The global alcohol industry is also trying to expand into developing
countries while continuing to collect profits in the saturated markets of North America and
Europe. Thesis: No one knows for certain as to when humans first produced alcohol. The original
alcoholic drink could have been created from berries or honey. But according to (quote), the

have been fermenting alcoholic drinks for at least 10,000 years. Since then alcohol has been
produced, consumed, and traded by humans for thousands of years. An early example of alcohol
trade happens in 3000 B.C., early Mesopotamian farmers realized that the alcohol surplus they

The World Is Too Much With Us Personification
Wordsworths The World is Too Much with us is a poem that describes how we, as a society, need
to appreciate the world we live in. Wordsworth feels that we are detached from the world and its
beauty because we have become so careless about how we view the world. For example,
Wordsworth writes, We lay waste our powers; / Little we see in Naturethat is ours;/ We have given
our hearts away, a sordid boon! (2 4). In this passage, Wordsworth talks about how the world and
its nature is significant to mankind because we depend on it, but we choose to overlook it because
we have lost our meaningful connection. We waste our days being ungrateful to the world instead
of appreciating the life it holds. Our world does so much for us and yet... Show more content on

He would like to see the world in a different view so that when he looks at the ocean or the moon,
he would feel less sad. He would see glimpses of things that make him content, things that he only
sees for a second, in the blink of an eye.
Wordsworth uses literary elements such as personification. For example, This Sea that bares her
boson to the moon (5), sleeping flowers , (7) and The winds that will be howling at all hours, these
samples show how Wordsworth gives nature human like qualities. He does this to create character
in nature. Another literary element Wordsworth uses is similes. For example, Wordsworth writes,
The winds that will be howling at all hours, / And are up gathered like
Carr 2 sleeping flowers (7). He uses a simile to compare how the flowers look like they are sleeping,
giving it a human quality.
Another one of Wordsworths poems, I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, is about how he is feeling
compared to a cloud. He pretends that he is in his own small universe above the clouds. As he is
wondering above the clouds, he sees a crowd full of daffodils. Wordsworth

Creative Concepts Of Creative Products
Creative products are goods or services produced and sold by creative industries. Creative
industries are defined as having their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent. They typically
develop products offered in the entertainment sector such as music, theatre, opera, film, art,
broadcasting, etc. Universally seen as a unique type of product, they produce symbolic goodsin the
form of experiences, ideas or images. Because their products take the form of an experience or
service, they are classified as intangible. Intangible goods are products that have no physical nature
meaning a person cannot hold, touch, smell or otherwise handle it. Creative products are also seen
as ephemeral, meaning they only last for a certain period of time. Their value derives from the
artistic and human talents incorporated in it at the different stages of creation, production,
reproduction and distribution. (CITE) In many ways, these creative products are often seen as
more difficult to analyse, manage or sell compared to other commodity goods or services.
Figuring out why these products are often seen as more difficult means understanding how these
particular products are managed compared to their counterpart. Most notably, there is not just one
product being produced and sold. When it comes to creative goods, the whole product is composed
of several different types. From the seller s point, there is the formal product which is the actual
artistic performance itself that is being

Chicago Meatpacking History
History of the Back of the Yards
Running from west Pershing Road, around south Western Avenue, west Garfield Boulevard, and
ending at the intersection with south Halsted Street and west Pershing Road lies the neighborhood,
New City, also known as the Back of the Yards. Canaryville is also another neighborhood that lies
within New City.
The establishment of the Union Stock Yardsin 1865 led to the expansion of meatpacking in
southside Chicago. Before private stock yards were created, tavern owners provided land and care
for cattle herds waiting to be sold. With the increasing service of railroads throughout the United
States, small stockyards were created in and around the city of Chicago. Chicago became the
largest railroad center in the world, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This book described the horrifying conditions in the stockyards and meatpacking industry. The
story depicts a young man and woman who have recently immigrated to Chicago from
Lithuania. They have a wedding feast at a bar in Packingown. The couple and some of their
relatives go to Chicago for a better life but Packingtown, the center of the city s meatpacking
industry, is dangerous, filthy, and hard. It was also difficult to find a job. The couple become a
hundred dollars in debt to the saloonkeeper and Jurgis has faith in the American dream that he
could just work harder to make more money. They go through struggles with hard laboring jobs
such as digging freight tunnels (which resulting in him going to the hospital), getting arrested
because of attacking a man for not giving him correct change, he starts to commit crimes such as
burglaries and soon gets recruited to work for a corrupt political boss. His spirit soon gets
crushed by misery and wanders into a socialist political rally which fills Jurgis with inspiration
through a speech. He finds a job as a porter at a socialist run hotel and later reunites with wife.
This story is filled with signs of corruption and immorality. A big symbol in this story was the
animals and slaughterhouses of Packingtown which represent the working class. Just like the
animals were killed with impunity, made to suffer and had no choice about their fate, so were
thousands of immigrant workers who lived in poverty. They were forced into capitalism. Waves of
animals pass through Packingtown, just as the generations of immigrants continue to eventually be
replaced by a new

Business Line Model Of Nordstrom
Strength The diverse business line model that Nordstrom applies gives them a competitive edge
over their competitors. Unlike many of their competitors, Nordstrom operates in several retail
categories such as: clothing, furniture, bedding, footwear, beauty products, jewelry, house wear and
cafes (Nordstrom Inc, n.d). Operating in multi retail categories gives consumers an incentive to
shop at their shop, over the competitors because the consumer can satisfy all their specific needs
and wants in one store instead of having to visit several. The divergent product line also broadens
Nordstroms target market by offering different products that attract new market segments and reach
the different demographic and purchasing needs of each consumer. Nordstrom s wide product
range helped them to increase their Total Revenue in the 3 quarter 2014 by 8.88 % year on year,
while most of its competitors have experienced contraction in revenues by 0.17 % (CSI Market,
2014) . As Nordstrom continues to constantly add in new products or line extensions to their
product mix, they can expect to maintain a steady growth and competitive advantage over their
competitors. Nordstrom has quickly become one of The United States best high end fashion
Specialty retailers. Among their store expansions and sales growth it is their strategy in targeting
two market segments has placed them in an optimal marketingposition. Within the business there is

Applying Leadership Principles Paper
Communication is Key: Strategies to effective leadership
Chontrese Haskins
Applying Leadership Principles: Research Paper: Dr. Amenyah
July 31st 2016
When asked to define a leader, most would define one by naming traits such as self confidence,
ambition, and determination. Although these are great qualities, this does not define a leader. A
leader is someone in a position of authority who has ability to influence a group through effective
communication reaching a common goal. (Robbins, DeCenzo, Coulter, 2015) Effective leaders
work diligently to motive and inspire groups through their actions. This paper is a synopsis of
communication and how effective leadership can drive an organization to success.
The study of leadership dates back as far as the late 20th century. ... Show more content on

3)Laissez Faire Leadership Leadership playing little to no role in the decision process. (Coggins, E.

Discovered by Dr. James McGregor Burns, Transformational Leadership relates to engagement and
connectivity. Dr. Bernard Bass expounded Burn s work with transactional leadership in his
publication Work Leadership. Burns and Bass suggest that leaders should raise consciousness to
their followers by sharing the importance of the values and goals of an organization, in turn,
motivating followers to address higher management level needs. In 1985, Bass released Leadership
and Performance beyond expectation breaking down transformational leadership into four parts.
1)Idealized Influence Gaining trust from their follower, the leader/supervisor acts like a role model.
2)Inspirational Motivation Whereas the leader sets high expectations, encouraging his subordinates
to achieve higher goals.

The Future of E-Prescriptions Essay
What is Electronic prescribing? It is the ability of a prescriber to transmit prescriptions directly
to a pharmacy electronically in order to increase accuracy and reduce error. New York City is
currently testing a program involving electronic prescribing which also known as e presribing or
eRx. NYC S program is titled ZappRx and is improving the way pharmacists, doctors, and patients
interact with one simple smartphone application. This app is being used to manage prescription
payments and medical information. For the first time, patients will be able to order and pay for
prescriptions electronically, doctors will be able to e prescribe to their patients; and pharmacists
will be able to communicate digitally with the prescriber and... Show more content on

Meaningful use objectives include having at least 75 percent of all prescriptions written and
transmitted electronically. To help meet this goal, incentive programthat awards early adopters and
penalizes those that do not take on the initiative by 2012, with penalties increasing until 2014. All
in all, the benefits out weigh the challenges fro e prescriptions. These include but not limited to:
Improving patient safety and quality of care
Illegibility from handwritten prescriptions is eliminated, decreasing the risk of medication errors
while simultaneously decreasing risks related to liability.
Oral miscommunications regarding prescriptions can be reduced, as e prescribing should decrease
the need for phone calls between prescribers and dispensers.
Causes of medication errors include mistakes by the pharmacist incorrectly interpreting illegible
handwriting or ambiguous nomenclature, and lapses in the prescriber s knowledge of desired
dosage of a drug or undesired interactions between multiple drugs. Electronic prescribing has the
potential to eliminate most of these types of errors. Warning and alert systems are provided at the
point of care. E prescribing systems can enhance an overall medication management process
through clinical decision support systems that can perform checks against the patient s current
medications for drug drug interactions,

Kashmir is the history of struggle, oppression, displacement, killing, murder mystery, rape etc. It
was an independent state, having its own prime minister until 1953. The book details, how in
the 1990s conflict and war in Kashmir, providential and innocent families crumpled, how their
life became a hell, how young boys were arrested and disappeared, how mothers and wives were
not allowed to meet their sons and husbands in jail, and how they were molested, raped and
tormented. How families went from pillar to post in search of their relatives but walked back with
big No , how every politician consoled them, how others even don t listen to them and how
mothers, like Haleema, went to look for their sons till their last breath.
Shahnaz Bashir, in The Half Mother, debates a mother s suffering, struggle and distressed state
after her only son Imran is picked up by the troops. Haleema, the half mother like other myriad

Basic Aspects Of A Wooden Armoire
It s true that you can store many different items in a wooden armoire. It has various, functional
aspects as a storage unit. You can store your television and stereo equipment in an armoire, use it
to store clothes and you can use it for a computer/sewing area. The armoire s you purchase are very
nice, but you ll have a one of a kind pieceof furniture if you build your own. Follow the directions
below to do just that.
The easiest way to create the wooden armoire of your choice is to draw it out on a piece of paper. If
you ve never built any furniture before it may be easiest to draw simple squares and rectangles.
Don t start out with a lot of complicated shapes and designs. A few sheets of paper, a ruler and a
pencil will get you going. Make a plan on separate sheets of paper for each side, front and back.
You ll of course wantto be sure to label what each sheet is.
You ll want to measure the area where you decide to locate your armoire. It s a good idea to know
what you ll be using the armoire for; this makes location a little simpler. If it s to be used for TV
entertainment, place it so people won t have to struggle to watch it. If you intend to use it for
home office, you ll want it in a kind of out of the way area or your office.
For units like TV, you ll want to measure these things to place them inside your wooden armoire.
The same is true of computer components and the monitor.
You ll needsome Вѕ plywood for the panels on the side of your

Right To Vote
Vote? Why would I waste my time on such a pointless task? This is often said by many young
voters. Young people are not convinced that politics affects them. Many just don t care. Good
habits don t form overnight. Young people need to wake up and realize that your vote really
does matter. It is your right to vote, many people don t have that option. When someone votes,
they voice their opinion. That single vote can make a difference, whether it is small or big, a vote
is a vote. Young people are not the only ones at blame here, politicians don t know how to attract
the younger generation to appeal them. Young people don t realize that it is their future at stake.
Every vote counts, no matter what. There are a lot of people who don t bother... Show more content

There have been many efforts to persuade young people to vote. Some efforts include celebrity
appearances, and mock elections. Youth today is attracted to the internet, and some states have

Voting, it takes the extra step and implies the electronic registration. (Jörgen, Leenes, 2008 par
5) Most politicians are just looking at the older generation, appealing to them. Not to sound
arrogant, but they aren t going to be here forever. Young voters will not voter for people who
they do not recognize into jobs they don t understand. Majority of people in the U.S. watch T.V,
and they use the media to catch up on their daily political news. Over the past decade, the media
uses its time to catch candidates off guard and meddling into their lives. There has been little to
no effort in reaching the younger generation. Intimidation is a huge factor, politicians are seen as
money hungry people who only care for themselves. Politicians don t believe that young voters
will vote, so they won t bother to reach out to them. A survey by the Australia Institute found that
4 1.2 million young Australians felt no political party represented their needs (Lucas, Clay, 2013,
par 8). Many people believe that if there were young politicians in office, it would have a big
impact on young voters. Young people need politicians who are engaged with issues that

Political Bias In Social Media
The media has been used, over the past years, to pass on information to the general public, as well
as to educate the public about developmental issues. The agenda setting theory of mass media
postulates that media gives the people what to think about, and influences how they think about it.
One of the phenomenal issues that has been greatly affected by mediais the Susan G. Komen
Foundation and Planned Parenthood controversy.
The Susan G. Komen Foundation is one of the leading foundations in the United States, which
gives funds to organizations involved in research for a cure for breast cancer in the name of Planned
Parenthood. The foundation announced that it would stop issuing funds for Planned Parenthood,
as it was under investigation by congress. This caused a political uproar, and led to many
controversial social media debates involving high profile politicians. Although the dynamics of
the media influenced the points of view and the perception of the controversy, it is evident that
the world of technology has, in a way, trivialized the connection between people and tremendously
affected the way ideas and opinions are spread around societies. Moreover, the political bias of the
media is affecting societies to a great extent. The main purpose of inquiry into this controversy is to
show how the dynamics of the media can twist a political issue to an absolutely different angle.
HISTORY OF THE CONTROVERSY
One of the latest media driven controversies is the Susan G.

  • 2. The Architecture Of Software Defined Radios Essay 2.1ARCHITECTURE OF SOFTWARE DEFINED RADIOS As Reed (Reed, 2002) and others have stressed out, that the benefits of SDR approach go way beyond the multimode operations. Other benefits stem from the flexibility that comes with programmability. For instance, it can simplify design by allowing reuse of a common RF front end with new designs or modes of operation available through software changes. It also enables improvements to radio performance and functionality through application of digital signal processing (DSP) to implement adaptive beamforming, interference mitigation, and numerous other techniques either proven or in development. As the SDR approach has gained traction, a variety of hardware and software tools for development and exploration have become available. These tools are broadly accessible with reasonable cost and ease of use enabling new opportunities for engineering education and research. Examples include National Instruments (NI) universal software radio peripheral (USRP)/ NI LabVIEW software , the Ettus Research USRP/ GNU s Not Unix (GNU) Radio, WARP , the Lyrtech SDR Platform and the IMEC SDR Platform. For researchers, these platforms can provide a starting point for development of prototypes operating on live signals. Such prototypes can effectively demonstrate the practical viability of an implementation and are a step toward end deployment. 2.2THE NEED FOR SDR The SDR offers a wide range of economic and deployment benefits which has attracted many ... • 3. The Decade Of The 1920 s The Roaring Twenties Underneath the faГ§ade of dancing and parties, the decade of the 1920s was a violent clash of culture between the conservative Protestants mostly from rural, small town America and the liberal, modern city dwellers. The liberals embraced and celebrated their newfound freedoms, such as sexual liberation, while the conservatives tried desperately to hold onto their traditional religious standards. The World War sent many Americans abroad for the first time and blacks were introduced to foreign societies where they were equal to whites. The post war years saw mass immigration, which brought new religions and cultures to America. Prohibition became law, and failed miserably to produce the moral society its supporters had predicted. While this was a time of economic prosperity, the inability of the conservatives and the liberals to reach a common ground on moral issues provided a backdrop for the instability and social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More women began to enroll in college and sought employment outside the home. Fashion trends began to change and the well dressed, stylish woman of the 1920s sported short hair, knee length dresses worn with stockings, and lipstick. It became socially acceptable for women to smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol at cocktail parties, behaviors previously reserved for men or women of questionable morals. Dancing among respectable women became provocative and sexual. As relationships between men and women became more casual, premarital sex and adultery became more common among well educated women (textbook page 561). Conservative Americans were outraged at this decline in moral values and placed a large part of the blame on the media. Books, magazines, music and movies exposed America s youth to new ideas about sexuality and validated their pursuit of pleasure. Those who held to traditional, conservative values were unable to constrain this modern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Ethics Of Executions Should Be Legal The Ethics of Executions Over the past 10 years, more death row inmates have preferred execution to facing seemingly endless years of appeals, states an ABC News article (Robinson). With the ever increasing number of executions, the controversial debate over the legality of capital punishment creates a divide within the population. A wedge that separates the people who support capital punishmentis one complicated question: what role should a doctor play in executions? Doctors should be advocates for their patients no matter what the circumstances. Despite the infraction of American Medical Association (AMA) policy, it is important for a licensed medical professional with the correct knowledge and experience to monitor the execution. While a doctor should be on the scene in case of emergency, they should not play an active role in executions as is the policy in Texas and other states. The first thing to remember is that all doctors must adhere to the Hippocratic Oath which requires them to do no harm to their patients. However, the bounds of this oath are widely debated on cases that span Do Not Resuscitate directives, physician assisted suicide, executions, and anything that results in the death of a patient. In the case of executions, AMA policy states that it is unethical for doctors to be involved except in a peripheral way (Tanner). The AMA s stance prohibits doctors from supervising or contributing in any way even if it is to help ease the inmate s pain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. H. P. Lovecraft H. P. Lovecraft: A Creative Case Study It is safe to say that most who enter a specific field seek to leave a lasting impact upon that will last long after they are dead and gone. Obviously, not all end up so fortunate; to create such a powerful legacy, one must be truly innovative and bring something truly unique to the table. In the field of creativity studies there is a model of understanding creativity called the Four C Model. In the article Beyond Big and Little: The Four C Model of Creativity Big C creativity is stated to be made up of clear cut, eminent creative contributions (2) In this model, individuals like those previously described are considered Big C creatives. We as human being must be tested by faith in order for God to trust us with His word. False faith fails in times of us been tested in our trial, but crazy faith helps us to grow and mature in areas to edify Gods Kingdom. No education or conversation about sex. I grew up believing in fairly traditional views and values about sex. I didn t have sexual intercourse for the first time until I was out of college and I had spent two years in the army and it was with the girl I was planning on marrying. And she was my first wife. I believe that was typical of my peers. My friends and classmates and chums were all pretty much the same. It was the typical Midwestern, middle class life. Very different than life today ( Hugh Hefner Discusses Playboy s Legacy, par. 3). Those are the words of Hugh M. One reason that Andrew Jackson acted like a king was because he owned slaves throughout his lifetime. Document 7 states that he owned the most slaves when he was president. He acted like a king because you can not own the common man if you are the common man. This means that if Andrew Jacksonwas the hero of the common man, he would not be able to own slaves. The slaves WERE the common men. If Andrew Jackson was one of them he would ve been working for someone, but instead he acted like a king because he was the one having common men work for him. I must not only punish, but punish with impunity. (Poe, 233) Some of Montresor s very first words when he is telling the story show that he wants revenge against Fortunato. Some of the greatest sports heroes ever, couldn t but the bat on the ball no matter how hard they tried. Even players talented enough to make it professionally, have an on base success rate of less than 33%. Hitting a baseball is difficult, but consistent contact can be made if you swing properly. Here are some three tips on how to swing a baseball bat correctly, great suggestions for any level of competition. Solid Foundation A good baseball swing starts with your base. You need a good foundation to productively make contact with a baseball. When your foundation is unstable, your swing will be erratic; as well will be the results. Feet are spaced approximately twice the width of your hips, with slightly bent knees and your body weight shifted towards the balls of your feet. Open Your Hips This is one of the more difficult aspects of properly swinging at a baseball. When your hips open to soon, you will be behind the pitch. Opening your hips too early will cause you to swing over the ball, or be too far out in front. Rotating your hips at precisely the exact instant the bat makes contact with the ball is how to generate the most power from your swing. The most accomplished hitters refer to this concept, as launching your hips. The stance and hip rotation are where a hitter s power is generated. Can t Hit What You Can t See Tracking the ball is one aspect of hitting a baseball. It cannot stop at any point during your swing. If your eyes drift, so will your head. When you pull your head off the ball, you will compromise your swing. Most of the time you ll miss the pitch completely, or at best make poor contact. To keep you head on the ball, never take your eyes off the ball. The best hitters profess to actually seeing the ball make contact with that bat. Three modern heavy metal bands, Gojira, Mastodon and Baroness will be explored to show how visual artists interpret this type of music in their practices. Various other bands and subgenres will also be mentioned, describing visual aspects of certain styles of heavy metal. Heavy metal originated in the early 1970 s, with bands mainly coming from the UK and USA, who emerged from rock, and rock and roll music from the previous two decades, but also took influence from various types of blues and psychedelic rock music. To this day there are still debates on which band was this first ever to be known to play heavy metal. Fans from the UK will say Black Sabbath were the original heavy metal band, emerging from the working class of Birmingham, whereas USA fans favour Led Zeppelin coming from the hippie movement of the 60 s. For Aboriginal Australian s displacement began in the 1880 s, after the European settlement, and a number of Government Acts were introduced to assert power onto Aboriginal Australia s and educate them on a Western culture (Harrison Sellwood, 2016). As a result, the displacement of Aboriginal Australian s from their land increased diseases, and destruction of culture and languages (Hampton Toombs, 2013, p. 37) which continues into the new century. Despite their benefits for individual and public health, genetic screenings can lead to social stigma against those with genetic disorders. Since the introduction of mass genetic tests, there has been a legal debate about whether or not to release information about an individual s screening results. On one side of the debate are those who argue that the data from genetic screenings can be used to benefit public health through the development and improvement of treatments and public health policy (Hodge, 2004). However, a prominent opposing side to this debate has focused on the potential for social and even ethnic quarantine if the results of screenings are made public (Atkin, 2003). Though there is a consensus that genetic screening is beneficial in preventing and treating diseases and poor health, many worry that releasing their results can lead to social stigma for individuals of certain minorities simply because of their greater susceptibility to certain health problems (Natowicz and Alper, 1991). Ethnic discrimination has indeed proved to be a legitimate issue in regards to genetic screenings; for example, in the 1990s several states did not allow African American individuals to wed until they proved that they did not have sickle cell anemia. Lithium Ion Batteries For Electric Vehicle Batteries Essay Introduction A lithium ion (Li ion) battery is a type of rechargeable battery which uses a lithium ion that moves from a positive electrode (cathode) to a negative electrode (anode) during charging and vice versa during discharge. Lithium ion batteries are less environmentally damaging than batteries containing heavy metals such as cadmium and mercury, but recycling them is still far preferable to incinerating them or sending them to landfill. Lithium ion batteries are made up of one or more generating compartments called cells. Each cell is composed of three components: an anode, a cathode, and a chemical called an electrolyte in between them. Lithium ion batteries are becoming more common in portable electronic devices due to their high energy density, lack of memory effect, and high charge and discharge rate capabilities. Research and development work is ongoing to improve safety and increase capacity, charge/discharge rate, and lifetime. Demand for electric vehicle batteries is currently small, but it is expected to grow very quickly. Morgan informs us of the two strange births of American slavery and American freedom in the new colonial Virginia. In this read, we saw how the new colonial Virginia experience creates a strange enigma of early colonial freedom and slaveryand how the growth of the two develops hand in hand. The title alone has the reader presuming the reading is focused primarily on American slavery, but to the contrary, it is not. In defense, this book does show the injustice of slavery in early America not only towards African Americans but to the Native Americans as well. But, Edmond s book is long, and in some ways, very detailed. Morgan seems to delight himself in the telling of distinct specifics and at sometimes one might find themselves wishing he would not linger so much on all the glorious details. Microbiology Unknown Autumn White Biology 258 05 November 26, 2012 Unknown #19 Enterbacteriaceae Enterobacter aerogenes ABSTRACT The objective of this report was to identify an unknown microorganism through several differential media tests. Over the course of a couple weeks, ten tests were performed. First, a gram stain was performed, indicating the bacterium was gram negative. An aerotolerance test determined that the bacterium was a facultative anaerobe. Next, a negative result in the methyl red test indicated that no mixed acid fermentation occurred. The DNase test was performed and yielded a positive result. The SIM test provided two outcomes, that the bacterium did not reduce sulfur nor produce indole from tryptophan.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After incubation, approximately 6 8 drops of methyl red were added Possible observations: If mixed acid fermentation occurs, the broth will turn red. If mixed acid fermentation does not occur, the broth will not change its color. DNase Test 1.The bacterium was inoculated with a flamed loop onto agar containing peptides for soybeans, casein, NaCl and DNA 2.The plate was incubated at 37C for 24 hours Possible observations: If there is a clearing in the agar around the growth, then DNase is present. If there is not a clearing in the agar, DNase is not present. SIM Test: Tests for sulfur reduction, indole production from tryptophan, and motility 1.The SIM slant was stabbed with a flamed needle inoculated with the bacterium 2.The slant was incubated at 37C for 24 hours 3.After incubation, Kovacs reagent was added. The Kovacs reagent will react with any indole present Possible observations: If sulfur was reduced, there will be black in the medium. If sulfur was not reduced, there will not be black in the medium. If tryptophan is broken down into indole and pyruvate, there will be red in the alcohol layer of Kovacs reagent. If tryptophan does not break down, then the reagent color will be unchanged. If there is growth radiating from the stab line, there is motility. If there is no radiating growth, there is no motility. Sports Rivalries And Its Impact On People Dominic Trivisonno English 1120 Composition II Professor Bihary 5/8/16 Sports Rivalries and Its Impact on people in the Sports World My research explored, is about how the pride in one s team can impact a community and the human need to feel like a winner. Also the emotional well being on an individual or community. Sometimes an aggressive action by the opposing team turns to hatred and that s a point that can elevate into a rivalry. A fan is someone who actually dedicates part of their every day to the teams her or she follows. That goes for even the days their team doesn t perform the way they should have, because not every team can win them all. There are some sports fans out there and others who are more into the game and or team they show pride in are called fanatics. Both, fans and teams often view aggressiveness directed toward them as disrespectful. Sports rivalries are what fans and even what some of the athletes playing in the sports live for and wait the long season just to play in that one game. A lot of things or factors go into a rivalry to make it a good one . Some examples include how aggressive the teams may be, any backstabbing going on. For example if a player gets traded or leaves the school and finds itself playing his former team, Local pride, and the fan environment surrounding the team. Sometimes an aggressive action by ones team stirs up hatred between teams. The backstabbing element is also an interesting one. Cleveland fans will remember ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. The Evolution Of Tetra Pods It is often debated which species share common ancestors, in particular, how closely related amphibians, mammals and osteichthyes are. The evolution of tetra pods, or four legged animals, from aquatic animals such as fish can be traced back 365 million years ago to the Devonian, 408 360, mya, and evidence shows that this evolution was divergent in nature (Freeman, S. 2011; Myer, A and Zardoya, R. 2004). Divergent evolution, also sometimes termed adaptive radiation, occurs over many geological times and gives rise to a number of new species that all occupy different habitats and show characteristics that assist in survival and reproduction under their natural selection pressures (Kinear, J.F. 2000). Different organisms can evolve in similar ways even if they are not similar by descent from a common ancestor and this is known as homoplasy (Hawks, J. 2005). Classification of animals is an important field of biology, as new knowledge about genetics, anatomy and evolutionary relationships often leads to new thoughts on how different groups of organisms are related. In the biological systems of classification, all organisms are divided and classed into increasingly specific groups, starting with the kingdom, and finally being classed down to their genus and species (Huxley, L; Watter, M. 2005). Animals are either vertebrates or invertebrates, and this determines what phyla they belong to. All vertebrates, for example are all classed under the chordate phylum, meaning that they all evolved from an ancestor that had a notochord along the back (dorsal) side. Mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians and birds are all chordates. Studies on vertebrates have revealed that progressive evolutionary adaptations, such as improved respiration, efficient reproduction and paired muscular appendages enabled the vertebrates to survive in a wider range of habitats and on land. It was critical for developing countries where alcohol was key to trade. (Awkward) Alcohol was one of the main three psychoactive products (with tobacco and caffeine) which helped drive the globalization of trade from the 17th century. Today, the consumption of alcohol has become more omnipresent because of how diversified drinks have become. Drinking is an increasingly globalized cultural practice because alcohol is a substance with a global history. Producers of these alcoholic beverages tend to be large corporations reliant on innovative marketing techniques. The global alcohol industry is also trying to expand into developing countries while continuing to collect profits in the saturated markets of North America and Europe. Thesis: No one knows for certain as to when humans first produced alcohol. The original alcoholic drink could have been created from berries or honey. But according to (quote), the discovery of late Stone Age beer containers dating back to 8000 BCE demonstrates that humans have been fermenting alcoholic drinks for at least 10,000 years. Since then alcohol has been produced, consumed, and traded by humans for thousands of years. Wordsworth feels that we are detached from the world and its beauty because we have become so careless about how we view the world. For example, Wordsworth writes, We lay waste our powers; / Little we see in Naturethat is ours;/ We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon! (2 4). In this passage, Wordsworth talks about how the world and its nature is significant to mankind because we depend on it, but we choose to overlook it because we have lost our meaningful connection. We waste our days being ungrateful to the world instead of appreciating the life it holds. Our world does so much for us and yet... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, This Sea that bares her boson to the moon (5), sleeping flowers , (7) and The winds that will be howling at all hours, these samples show how Wordsworth gives nature human like qualities. He does this to create character in nature. Another literary element Wordsworth uses is similes. • 42. Creative Concepts Of Creative Products Creative products are goods or services produced and sold by creative industries. Creative industries are defined as having their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent. They typically develop products offered in the entertainment sector such as music, theatre, opera, film, art, broadcasting, etc. Universally seen as a unique type of product, they produce symbolic goodsin the form of experiences, ideas or images. Because their products take the form of an experience or service, they are classified as intangible. Intangible goods are products that have no physical nature meaning a person cannot hold, touch, smell or otherwise handle it. Creative products are also seen as ephemeral, meaning they only last for a certain period of time. Their value derives from the artistic and human talents incorporated in it at the different stages of creation, production, reproduction and distribution. (CITE) In many ways, these creative products are often seen as more difficult to analyse, manage or sell compared to other commodity goods or services. Figuring out why these products are often seen as more difficult means understanding how these particular products are managed compared to their counterpart. The agenda setting theory of mass media postulates that media gives the people what to think about, and influences how they think about it. One of the phenomenal issues that has been greatly affected by mediais the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Planned Parenthood controversy. The Susan G. Although the dynamics of the media influenced the points of view and the perception of the controversy, it is evident that the world of technology has, in a way, trivialized the connection between people and tremendously affected the way ideas and opinions are spread around societies.
