Planned Parenthood Research Paper
(A) Let s take a moment to imagine an ice cream shop. (B) It provides many different flavors, flavors
that are really good, but there is one flavor that some people just don t like. You wouldn t try to shut
down the whole ice cream shop simply because one flavor displeases you. If you really didn t like that
flavor, just avoid it. Simply because that flavor is available to you doesn t mean you have to get it,
maybe somebody else really wants that ice cream flavor, it is not up to you to tell them I do not like
that flavor, therefore I want it to be unavailable to you. (C) Taking down the ice cream shop is just
ridiculous, and would definitely ruin more lives than it would benefit. (D) In the same fashion,

Statement Of Purpose Of Becoming A Registered Nurse
Prior to my sophomore year I was honestly clueless of what I wanted to do, but as soon as I
discovered that I wanted a career in the medical field I intended to do anything I could that would help
me achieve my goal that is to first become a Registered Nurse. I took more vigorous classes, classes
that would help my career, as well as by doing running start.
Currently as I mentioned, I am a running start student at Wenatchee Valley College, and am working
towards not only my associates degree but also towards becoming a Registered Nurse. I intend to later
on transfer to the University of Washington to further major either in Pediatrics as a pediatric nurse or
in Kinesiology as an occupational therapist.

Bodybuilding And Powerlifting
Everyone has a way of relieving stress or taking their anger out on something. Well for me thats going
to the gym, its helped me with things that have ended up badly in my social life. It s a way for me to
let go and just be myself without anyone judging me, and I believe that everyone needs to have a place
like that. But going to the gym isn t just a place to go blow off steam for me, it s something I do for a
sport. So I need to figure out a way I could improve my muscularity and size. I want to know more
about this comparison because I love bodybuilding and competing in powerlifting.
If I am able to find out which would improve my muscle growth faster It would increase my
opportunities in both bodybuilding and powerlifting. The more muscle mass I gain in the shorter
amount of time can help my body physically. The less body fat that your body has the better shape it is
in and has less of a health risk. This is something that s very important to me because i ve always been
a bigger person than most. To me lifting is more than just something that I do on my free time to get in
better shape, I actually enjoy going back to the gym the next day after waking up sore from my
previous workout. Some folks consider it to be a hassle or a waste of money on a membership for ...

The s The House Is Black
Forugh Farrokhzad s The House is Black is a harrowing, disturbing, artfully made documentary, one
of the few films directed by the Iranian poet Farrokhzad. Her subject here is leprosy, and she looks
directly, uncompromisingly, at the devastation that this disease causes the human body. She does not
look away, not from the cruelest deformations this disease generates. Her purpose was to expose the
punishing and superfluous way that lepers continued to be treated in Iran, funneled into quarantined
leper colonies where their disease went relatively untreated, causing them to slowly and painfully
degenerate. Farrokhzad s film was deliberate in raising cognizance about these conditions, and to
emphasize that this situation need not be. Produced during the reign of statist documentary cinema,
Farrokhzad s work was a wild contrast from the other documentary films created in this timeframe.
Farrokhzad s The House is Black deliberately and openly disobeyed the official style of Iranian
documentaries during the 1960s, paving the way for Iranian New Wave cinema. From striking mirror
scenes to deep pans of a classroom, Farrokhzad s auteurist interventions are more obvious than subtle
although Farrokhzad s directorial hand is heavy in The House is Black, this documentary was among
the first to reflect a powerful yet unnoticed reality against the wishes of the Iranian government.
A male narrator impassively lists facts about leprosy while Farrokhzad cuts swiftly and abruptly

Truth Commission Reports in Argentina and Chile
In the late 20th century, the South American countries of Argentina and Chile went through two
considerably turbulent periods of violent clashes between governmental and military forces against
native citizens. These clashes not only caused severe damage within both communities but also led to
specific reconciliation recommendations by truth commission committees set out in Núnca Mas and
the Rettig Report. These specific recommendations not only aided in the reconciliation process but
also helped in the social, and political, development of both Argentinian and Chilean society. These
reports were translated into multiple languages; recorded scores of people, who were hurt both
physically and psychologically by these terrors, and mostly allowed for those with no voice to be
heard not only by the countries involved, but by the world as a whole. In the end, the Argentinian and
Chilean people effected by these atrocities not only were given the option of knowing the history of
their countries, but ultimately the ability to feel protected and valued in the places they were hurt
most. With the aide of truth commission report recommendations the societies effected were given a
new chance at healing and rehabilitating their country, which mostly was destroyed both physically
and mentally. These reports not only give a direct and unabridged version of the story of the conflict,
but also gave the victims of these countries, as well as the world, one history they can all be agreed

Federal Bureau Of Investigation And Its Legal Implications
Federal Bureau of Investigation takes all cases of alleged terrorist activity seriously, and they
thoroughly investigate each case. According to Roth (2014), instead of seeking solely to identify
individuals who are actively engaged in criminal conduct, now agents also have deliberately sought to
identify individuals who might be willing to aid acts of terrorism, even if they are not currently
involved in such activities (p. 981). The vagueness of the term willing and its legal implications can
hardly be exaggerated. Law enforcement professionals from the Federal Bureau of Investigation have
developed sophisticated mechanisms to obtain valid evidence that a person or a group of people has
the intention to act as terrorists. The use of confidential informants has become a gold standard in
investigating these cases, but not all law enforcement professionals can meet the legal requirements
and avoid the risks of entrapment. It is important, however, to ensure that your confidential informant
has been thoroughly vetted so that their actions and integrity regarding the case cannot be called into
questions and allegations validated regarding the evidence obtained as a result of their involvement.
Recently, the case of the Inland Empire men accused of organizing a terrorist plot has become
highlighted news in the United States (Hansen, 2014). For months, the Federal Bureau of Investigation
was monitoring their activities with the active participation of a confidential

Examples Of Social Judgment Theory
Heald, J. E. (1991). Social Judgment Theory: Applications to Educational Decision Making.
Educational Administration Quarterly, 27(3), 343 57.
This study (Heald, 1991) uses social judgment theory, a theory that is supposedly nontraditional to the
field of education to improve the ability of school administrators in identifying more accurately
students who are at risk of dropping out of school. The study argues that social judgment theory,
although it is not traditionally utilized in educational decision making, has significant potential in that
area. Particularly, the researchers argue that social judgment theory offers decision makers (perhaps
not just those in educational settings) the opportunity to better understand the nature of their intuitions,
inferences, and biases and the role they play in their judgments (p. 355).
Ex post facto data were collected on 120 students who were 7th graders during the 1985 1986 school

Theme Of Redemption In Gran Torino
GRAN TORINO
Identify critical moments in the film Gran Torino where Walt Kowalski is transformed from a racist
tormented character to a compassionate father figure.
Gran Torino is a film directed by Clint Eastwood, with Eastwood who is also taking on the key role as
the main character and protagonist; Walt Kowalski. Eastwood plays a retired auto worker and Korean
War veteran who feels emptiness in his life. His character is happiest on his home porch, beer in hand,
dog his only ally, his lawn immaculate, despising the many Asian, Latino and black families in his
neighborhood. However, the redemption of such a character is critical to the storyline as Walt becomes
a reluctant hero, standing up to gang members who have totally unsettled his lifestyle; an attempted
theft of his prized possession, a 1972 Gran Torino, sets Walt on a mission to rectify things for himself
and his Hmong neighbors. Eastwood uses symbolism and cinemograph techniques to exemplify the
theme of redemption. The most notable moment when Walt becomes a father figure, is when he
confronts the gang at their house, just after sue was raped and beaten.
The film explores the possibility of redemption, second chances , and the hope that comes from
having a positive future. Both Walt and Thao experience redemption in the film. Walt is saved from
the guilt of a murderous past as a soldier and the disappointment of broken relationships within his
own immediate family. Ultimately, Walt finds peace with himself, with others and with God. Walt s
young neighbour, Thao is rescued from a future of crime and violence, and the shame of attempted
theft. Ultimately, Thao gains a future as a hard working, respectable American citizen and man. It is
evident from the beginning of the movie that Walt has a hard line attitude towards the church, which is
partly because of the pain and torment he experienced from Korea. Walt exhibits strong racial slurs as
he had strong racial prejudices, also mainly because of the 50 s style of thinking he has and likewise
from the time in Korea, as this is how they talked about them. It is symbolic as he still thought and
spoke like that back after the war, showing the audience that he is still at war, not with the

Pros And Cons Of The Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine is a policy made after the War of 1812, and it warns European powers not to get
involved in the affairs of the Western Hemisphere. It is issued by the fifth president James Monroe but
it was written by the Secretary of State John Quincy Adams. It was issued on December 7th 1823. It is
one of the major foreign policy statements. The Monroe Doctrine also warns European nations to not
create new colonies in America. It is sometimes called America s diplomatic declaration of
independence. The doctrine was actually invoked in 1865 because The United States government
exerted diplomatic and military pressure in support of the Mexican president Benito Juarez. In 1962 it
was actually invoked again. The Monroe Doctrine has three major points. The first being European
countries could no longer form colonies in North or South America. It also says that the political
systems of America were separate from the political systems in Europe. The third main point is The
United States would consider any attempt by Europe to influence politics in America as a threat to its
peace and safety. Lastly, The United States would not mess with the European governments or their
colonies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

then it would set a precedent in foreign policy for the United States. It is an example of America
flexing its muscles and expressing nationalistic feelings. There was an increase of the involvement in
North America by Europe, and President Monroe wanted to do something about it. It is a fair doctrine
because the United States said it would interfere with European colonies and governments. Lastly, you
should support the doctrine because it helps send the message that the United States is a strong and

International Monetary Fund IMF Essay
IMF
International Monetary Fund
The International Monetary Fund also known as the IMF or the Fund was conceived at a United
Nations conference convened in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, U.S. in July 1944. The 45
governments represented at that conference sought to build a framework for economic cooperation
that would avoid a repetition of the disastrous economic policies that had contributed to the Great
Depression of the 1930s.
==►IMF describes itself as an organization of 184 countries, working to foster global monetary
cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and
sustainable economic growth, and reduce poverty .

1. It should stabilize and establish a clear and single value for each currency.
2. Encourage unrestricted convergence of one currency into another.
3. oppose practices as comparative devaluation (The effect of comparative devaluation: There was
shift in investment flow that has totally restricted the trade)
4. There immediate post war objective was ==►elimination of exchange restrictions relating to trade
in goods and services, and the stability of exchange rates.
Exchange rate stability par value system
==►Countries that joined the IMF between 1945 and 1971 agreed to keep their exchange rates (the
value of their currencies in terms of the U.S. dollar and, in the case of the United States, the value of
the U.S. dollar in terms of gold). That was very stable exchange rate system and was known as Par
Value System also known as the Bretton Woods system.

(and dollar reserves held by other governments) into gold.
==►Since then, IMF members have been free to choose any form of exchange arrangement they wish
(except pegging their currency to gold): allowing the currency to float freely; pegging it to another
currency or a basket of currencies; adopting the currency of another country; or participating in a
currency bloc.

Fixed and Variable Costs
Health services managers are essentially interested in how costs are affected by changes in volume.
Cost behavior refers to a cost s reactions to activity level. A cost may rise, fall, or remain constant as
activity levels fluctuate. We can classify several types of costs on the basis of their relationship to the
amount of services provided, often referred to as activity, utilization, or volume (Gapenski, 2012).
When dealing with the future there is a level of uncertainty of volume with regard to inpatient days,
number of emergency visits, number of unforeseen complications, number of additional unaccounted
for testing procedures and so on. The many costs incurred by the healthcare organization can be
classified as variable, fixed, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Variable costs apply at a per unit basis, only the behavior of the variable per unit cost is different. For
example, if supplies for a one lab test cost $10, the variable cost per test remains constant. Although
the cost of the test remains the same, the total costs associated with the test will increase or decrease in
relation with the volume of tests at the hospital. Cost behavior refers to the relationship between a
given cost item and the quantity of it s related cost driver. It explains how the total amount for various
costs respond to changes in volume. When volume is zero, variable costs equal zero. If there are no
lab tests being performed, there are no variable costs incurred. Fixed costs on the other hand do not
change in response to a change in volume. The monthly cost to rent a clinic would stay constant
whether they had 50 or 100 lab tests, because that is a fixed cost.
Cost Allocation Cost allocation is essentially a pricing process within the organization whereby
managers allocate the costs of one department to other departments. Typically, the overhead costs of
the healthcare business, such as those incurred by administrators, facilities management personnel,
financial staff, housekeeping and maintenance personnel, must be allocated to those departments that
generate revenues for the organization. Departments that generate revenues are generally patient
services (Gapenski,

The Founding Fathers of the United States established the Rule of Law. This idea of the Rule of Law
made it so citizens were seen as equals. There was no one person who was above the law. Each person
is accountable for their actions and each person is equal to the next, even political leaders. The
Constitution of the United States helped shape the political regime of the country. It established the
separation of powers so that no one office holds too much power. Not only did the Constitution
establish the separation of powers, but it also helped establish Federalism. Because of Federalism it
separated authority between nation and state. This gave each state their power to create their own
laws, policies, and judicial system. The Constitution hits three major roles, national, state, and
individual rights. The Bill of Rights lays out rights of the individuals that they were entitled to being a
part of the US. Some of these individual rights are freedom of speech, religion, press, and assembly.
The Constitution of the United States is the longest standing Constitution still in practice. Two
centuries after the constitution was drafted, it still remains in effect and is a crucial part of the United

national level there are three institutions; Legislature, Judiciary, and the President. Each institution

Examples Of Magical Realism In The Famished Road
Okri s story The Famished Road includes several features of magical realism. Precisely, instances of
hybridity happen often. The character Azaro wrongly believes a character by the river to be the ferry
man of the dead, he acquires that she is in fact a hybrid woman, young in body but with an old woman
s face . The illustration is also a hybrid of ancient custom and ritual. Also, The Famished Road
portrays the theme of political corruption and political struggle. The character Madame Koto is
implied in the corruption of modern Nigerian politics. She summarizes the new power herself, rather
than its transgression, foreshadowing the country s Civil War to come. Okri has also used ironic

A Catastrophe of Pandemic Proportions Essay
A Catastrophe of Pandemic Proportions
A Catastrophe of Pandemic Proportions
It is the year 2018. The future that once looked bright is now filled with devastation. Two years ago a
small pox epidemic swept through the United States in the worst act of terrorism we have ever seen.
Due to the belief small pox was gone for good, children were no longer vaccinated. If only we knew
the enemy was manufacturing this virus as a lethal weapon to be unleashed in the United States. I do
not think even the enemy had any idea of the magnitude of death and destruction such a simple virus
could cause. The first wave killed 40% of the eastern coast. As it swept across our nation, the main toll
was children s lives. Many who survived were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is dangerous since a misdiagnosis is highly likely and the patient will be sent home with no help
and no alerts sent to the health department. Unfortunately, the person carrying small pox is already
contagious and spreading the virus through an entire community and beyond.
If something like the previously described event were to happen, the results could be very similar. The
problem lies in the fact that the people do not know what to do in case of a bioterrorist attack. In the
past, things have been kept secret and the public has been unable to get a grasp on what our role is in
such an event. The American society rarely hears about biological threats on our nation and is not
included on training in case such events. This is the very reason why we are in a vulnerable spot and I
fear we the people would be helpless. The other reality is, because our lack of knowledge, the people
could also make the situation worse. All it takes is for a person to panic and flee. The can spread a
virus like wildfire. Due to a long incubation period, a citizen could in theory affect a large majority of
people before systems are shown. Something we do not normally think about is the possibility of the
majority of our police officers and hospital staff being infected in the initial wave of sickness. These
are the people who are most vulnerable due to the interactions with the community. With

What Role Did The Setting Of Monetary Policy Play On...
What role did the setting of monetary policy play in housing market developments?
Monetary policies play can or not play a major role in the housing developments. This all depends on
the supporting evidences provided that aligns with the goals of the policy makers. In this scenario
monetary policy was not the initial reason for the extraordinary strength in the housing markets.
According this case study, a relationship between interest rates and housing activities is not adequate
enough to explain the rise in residential investments or house prices. However some increase in
housing markets can attest to lower interest rates and favourable monetary policies that followed after
the 2011 recession, which was actually a small factor, As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to the United States and as noted by Taylor (2008) and Ahrend and others (2008), In light of
these considerations, the evaluation of policy settings is perhaps best done through a comparison of
projected outcomes for the policy objectives given policy expectations; such a comparison involves
examining whether the forecasts of policymakers, the private sector, or other forecasters were
consistent with a balancing of the price stability objective and the full employment objective (for
example, the unemployment rate in the neighborhood of its estimated natural rate). This guidance was
designed to influence asset prices, economic activity, and inflation in a manner consistent with the
goals of price stability and full employment. As has been emphasized by many researchers, the
guidance of expectations is the primary channel through which policy affects economic outcomes the
overnight interest rate in the interbank market is in itself in consequential for economic activity,
except to the extent that it affects expectations of the future path of this rate, which in turn influence a
broad array of asset prices important to aggregate spending and price setting.

Book Report on With the Old Breed by E.B. Sledge In the book, With the Old Breed, Eugene B.
Sledge, shares his recollections from the perilous and triumphant events of World War II, while
serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. During his time as a Marine, he fought two major battles against the
Japanese, on the Pacific islands of Peleliu and Okinawa. Throughout the book, E.B. Sledge illustrates
his encounters during the war and how they left an everlasting effect on his mind and view of life. As
a member of the Company K, 3rd Battalion, and 1st Marine Division he illustrates the pride he
developed in his division with the members he worked alongside. Nicknamed Sledgehammer , Sledge
also described the strong sense of camaraderie he developed and shared among his fellow soldiers. At
the beginning of the memoir, Sledge describes his feelings and situations as a young adult enlisting
into the military for World War II. Eventually after some weeks into his infantry training of becoming
a U.S. Marine, he learns the skills on how to become a strong and dependable soldier against the
unforgiving army of the Japanese. During his time in combat, Sledge describes the strong and brash
personalities of the Marine personnel he fights alongside and their persistence in working together to
defeat the enemy. These personalities would include the outspoken and blunt NCOs (non

However, despite several efforts, unfortunately we cannot have a lot of expectations from start ups

effective venture capital market that constitutes, so far, the essential fuel for this sector. While in USA
social venturists as well as venture capitalists are very active, in Italy too little attention is given to
social innovation, which contrarily is arousing into the other communitarian countries more and more
interest and that recently the EU has promoted with its Social Business Initiative .
In particular, the just mentioned strategy by European Union aims to set up all those measures useful
to fight poverty and social exclusions, and meanwhile, through SBI, the Brussels based organism

Referring to this initiative, it comes to light that social enterprises and, more generally, all the actors

should apply business strategies to tackle important social goals such as ameliorate society or

corporations. Corporate plans are not passed down the corporate structure. Plans are created in store
by managers of the different departments. This corporate strategy gives managers at the store plenty of
room to research and develop new successful plans on their own. Managers at Central Market take
pride in their work, because it is something they have created. Central Market leaders inspire Partners
to find their own solutions through the training that is provided in the company. The training will be

extreme as being operated on, such as having a tubal ligation or a vasectomy. The more minor options
are using condoms or taking a type of contraceptive pill. In this essay I will also talk about the

Respect for women s rights to reproduce self determination also requires governments to ensure that
women give their full, informed consent before receiving a contraceptive method. Government
policies that disregard a women s own wishes in order to meet demographic goals put women in
danger of coercive and violent practices. Subjecting women to surgical sterilization or administering
contraceptive injections or implants without her informed consent, for example, violates women s
fundamental reproductive rights. Consistent and correct use of modern methods of contraception can
prevent many unwanted pregnancies. In order to meet their international commitments, governments
must improve access for men, women, and adolescents to high quality family planning information
and services that offer a range of freely chosen contraceptive methods. Methods of contraception:

The Jazz And The Blues
Music and dancing was also another influence that occurred during this time period. Jazz and the
Blues were the most common and well known types of music, which could have sometimes been
involved in the types of dancing that happened in the Roaring 20s. The type of music that we call jazz
was a great turning point between the whites and the African Americans who were segregated. It
lessened the amount of segregation between the two races and brought people of all races together no
matter what color they were. The music helped people that were in need of jobs and the main places
that were affected were New York and Chicago. An important figure in the history of jazz was Louis
Armstrong who played the trumpet and cornet to play his music. Along with jazz, the blues was a type
of music that was inspired by the African Americans of that time. The African Americans that started
the blues were in churches or either in hollers working in the fields. They would sing these songs as
they worked hard on the long days on the farm. The blues first started from the African Americans
located in the Mississippi Delta. There were many different types of dances that are still being used
today even though it was made about a hundred years ago. Some of these dances included the
Charleston, the Tango, the Shimmy, and many more other dances. Dance was the entertainment of the
daily lives of many people. It was to the point where churches even used it to get the attention of

Summary Of Let The Punishment Fit The Crime By Robert Blecker
As Robert Blecker, a Professor of Economics and American University, says, An unpleasant life in
prison, a quick but painful death...can help restore a moral balance (Blecker). Some people agree with
the death penalty because of moral fairness; however, some people oppose the death penalty because
of family relationship, financial costs with education, false conviction, bias and religious perspective.
In the article With the Death Penalty, Let the Punishment Fit the Crime, the author Robert Blecker
argues about which method of execution would best fit the crime and the unequal situation in prison.
Although Blecker explains the reason of death penalty and discusses about choosing better method of
execution, based on the research, I oppose

Oppression Of Gender Roles In Wonder Woman By Christian Stoic
Like I previously mentioned, the genre of action and adventure is so diverse, and there are so many
heroines and female characters, it is hard to argue that women in action roles strictly have a negative
impact on female viewers. Also, it would be completely inappropriate to argue that women in lead
action roles have no positive impacts on female viewers. As society continues to advance, female
heroines are also evolving and moving further away from the traditionally hypersexualized characters.
Instead, these heroines are easier for women to identify with, they are extremely strong and
independent female leads, and they are dressed more practically/appropriately. A few examples of
these new age action heroines include Jessica Jones, Alicia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I believe that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done when it comes to female heroines, and I
hope that in time (sooner rather than later) these women heroines will serve strictly to empower and
inspire women of all ages. One reason that these heroines are sexualized and dumbed down more
often than not might be due to the lack of equality in terms of male and female directors. In an article
written by Yohana Desta, it states that There are about 23.8 male directors for every female director
(Desta 2017), and also that Women were more likely to direct dramas, and less likely to direct science
fiction or action films which are, imperatively, often the most successful and lucrative genres in the
business (Desta 2017). Since these lead female roles are written and created mainly by men and not
women, they are more aimed at a male audience. This is most likely why these women s bodies are
focused on more than making these characters into well rounded heroines that could serve to inspire
women. I believe that in order to transition from these heroines negatively impacting females, to these
heroines serving to empower women, there first needs to be an increase in the number of female
directors in Hollywood. I also feel that male directors should use women such as Jessica Jones or the

Indentured Servants In America
Indentured servants were people who came over to the southern colonies in America from Britain
were bound to a contract to work off their debt overseas. The women who came over as indentured
servants were often convicted of crimes back in England or came from poor families, either way these
women hoped to create a new life for themselves after working off their debts. A large portion, about
three fourths of the women who came over from Britain to the Southern Colonies during the
seventeenth century, were indentured servants (Dubois, ch.2 p.51).
Most women who decided to travel to the new world as an indentured servant knew there would
probably never be a return trip home, but at the time it might have seemed like a small price to pay

regioisomeric 1 acyl 3 alkylindoles can be prepared directly from a common set of precursor materials
and using similar synthetic strategies. The EI mass spectra for these isomers show a number of unique
ions which allow for the differentiation of the 1 alkyl 3 acylindole compounds from the inverse
regioisomeric 1 acyl 3 alkylindoles. The base peak at m/z 214 in the 1 n pentyl 3 benzoylindole
represents the M 77 cation fragment resulting from the loss of the phenyl group and this ion is not
observed in the inverse isomer. The 1 benzoyl 3 n pentylindole inverse regioisomer shows a base peak
at m/z 105 for the benzoyl cation. Thus, these two base peaks are the result of fragmentation initiated
at the carbonyl oxygen for both isomers. The 1 pentyl 3 benzoylindole is characterized by the strong
intensity carbonyl band at 1703 cm 1 while the amide carbonyl appears as a strong band of equal
intensity at 1681 cm 1 in the 1 benzoyl 3 pentyl regioisomer. 1. Introduction A number of synthetic

The Baylor University Concert Jazz Ensemble Directed By...
I attended the Baylor University Concert Jazz Ensemble directed by Alex Parker on Tuesday,
November 10th. This ensemble consisted of saxes, trombones, trumpets, drums, a piano, and bass. The
concert showcased many individual talents by including solo s or duet s in every song. The program
consisted of seven songs with no intermission. The pieces I selected were Big Dipper by Thad Jones
and Undecided by Frank Mantooth. The composition Big Dipper by Thad Jones consisted of a duet by
Hunter Horby playing the tenor sax and Ryan McArthur playing the trumpet. The tone of the piece
was in major. It had a happy feel to it and made you want to get up and dance. It was moderato in
tempo, meaning it was an average pace of beats. It kicked off with a quick crescendo from mezzo
piano, or medium soft, to forte, or loud. The tenor sax and the trumpet had the melody and the rest of
the instruments were the background music for most of the piece however, the rest of the ensemble
had their time to shine with the melody a couple of times. I felt as if I was in the 1950 s listening to
swing music and jazz. The texture felt dancelike and brassy. Jones incorporated many accents and
staccato markings throughout the composition. The song had many contrasts with pitches and
dynamics. Most of the crescendo s and decrescendo s seemed to be directly related to the amount of
instruments being played. If there was just one instrument playing and they started to increase in

Music Education in our Public Schools Essay example
Music Education in our Public Schools
Music Education is no doubt a necessity to the students of today. Music plays a major role in everyone
s daily life. Music is listened to while driving in the car, when eating in restaurants, relaxing at home,
and even when on hold to a company s overloaded phone system. Music is everywhere you turn, and
it should be one of the main subjects to be studied in our public school systems. Public schools in
America need to understand that the funding and continued study of music is just as important as the
funding for math or science to produce a well rounded graduate. Public schools in America have the

This practice is almost unbelievable considering that the No Child Left behind Act passed by congress
in 2001 specifically states, Music education is a core academic subject (NCLB). Music education is
not only the study of rhythms and note patterns; music education is the chance to study an art form
that is new and different each and every time it is practiced or performed. Musically educated students
not only have a better understanding of the fine arts than other students, but have a more critical eye
and ear for everything around them. Music education is a gateway for a greater understanding of the
world we live in. Not only does music give students a more alert outlook or more critical mind on the
word around them, it also gives musicians a better understanding of themselves. It gives them the
confidence to know that they have accomplished something beautiful. Also, in sharing that
accomplishment with others, in a medium such as a concert or recital, it allows them to open up
musically and emotionally to others. This in turn makes a more emotionally healthy person. It has also
been proven that students, who have taken music classes in school, not only have an understanding of
a subject that other students don t, but their test scores in conventional classes, especially math and
science, are significantly higher than students who have taken no form of music education. This fact is
reaffirmed according to The College Board:

the needs of the whole family. In 1992, the Horlicks brand also branched out into biscuits and earlier
this month launched Junior Horlicks biscuits for toddlers. The Horlicks brand alone contributes almost
80 per cent to GSK s revenues.
The fact that GSK has two more milk beverages in the same market Viva and Maltova gives it a firm
grip on the market. According to Sen, Viva and Maltova are popular in select markets in areas such as
West Bengal and Tamil Nadu where they have found favour for a long time. Their popularity is largely
taste based, he explains. The difference between the three brands of malted beverages under the GSK

Perspective Of Resiliency In Robert Frost s On A Tree...
Robert Frost s Perspective of Resiliency
Resiliency has always been a highly favored characteristic amongst societies. In Robert Frost s On a
Tree Fallen Across the Road the resiliency of the narrator and a group of individuals was challenged.
In the sonnet, a group of individuals were traveling through the woods when a heavy wind storm
knocked a tree in front of them, which resulted in a bar in their pathway. Although after the group of
individuals overcame their tribulation they received a new outlook to life. In the sonnet; On a Tree
Fallen Across the Road, Robert Frost presented imagery and a metaphor in order to communicate his
thoughts and feelings on trials, ultimately Frost illustrated that resiliency through trials result in a new
perspective of life. Frost described the literal meaning of the sonnet through imagery. Through Frost s
description the audience was able to know the sonnet s setting was in a windy environment near trees.
Frost illustrated the setting through his description, ...tempest with a crash of wood. Through the
description of the weather and surroundings of the narrator, the audience was able to know there was a
wind storm and a fallen tree in the path. Correspondly, Frost described the effect of the fallen tree.
Frost illustrated the effect of the collapse of the tree, [The tree] throws down in front of us... The
collapse of the tree established the physical problem within the sonnet. The physical problem within
the sonnet was the tree blockaded the path of the travelers. After Frost described the physical struggle
within the sonnet, he described the outcome. Frost stated, Steer straight off [the path]... The travelers
took a different path to overcome the fallen tree. Overall the literal meaning of the sonnet was
described as a group of travelers built a new path, after a tree fell and blocked their trail. The literal
meaning of Frost s sonnet was described through his use of imagery.
Frost communicated his purpose of the sonnet through a metaphor. The pathway was symbolic of life
and the fallen tree was symbolic for trials individuals face in their lifetime. The psychological problem
was overcome through the strength of the travelers. The narrator proclaimed his

John Calvin s Influence On Society
John Calvin was born in Noyon, France on July 10th 1509. At fourteen he was sent to Paris to study
theology, and developed an interest in the writings of Augustine. Calvin was able to receive his Master
s degree at the age of 19. His father then insisted that he take up law instead, wanting his son to follow
in his footsteps. But he returned to theology when his father died. Similar occurrences are still a global
issue, especially in strict traditional households. Students are forced to study and practice beliefs or
forms of education that only their parents approve of. In many cases the student will disobey their
parents which will create broken families and the loss of parental support.
During the 16th century the Protestant Reformation was blooming. Catholic Europe was being broken
due to the challenges in political, religious and intellectual belief. In 1534, Calvin underwent a sudden
change and became an ardent Protestant. With everyone having different beliefs, Calvin had his own

branches of Christianity that have developed out of the Protestant Reformation started by Martin
Luther in 1517. After Journeying to Basel, a Protestant city within Switzerland, Calvin published his

From the 1750s to the 1900s, nationalism raged like a wildfire and extended in flaming tendrils across

and chafing rule of Napoleon; however, people most felt nationalism outside Europe. Two such
nations rocked by nationalistic ideas were China and Haiti. Both countries underwent massive
political reforms in the time between 1750 and 1900, but each nation s policies differed in foreign
relations, economics, and racial issues. China and Haiti both had to battle with foreign, specifically

The Pros And Cons Of Prison Reform
I chose to argue that prisons should be designed for reform rather than punishment alone. I wanted to

change and rehabilitate. I strongly believe in an inherent goodness in every individual born to this
earth. As I started reading Just Mercy, my eyes were opened to how prisons degrade inmates. There s a
stigma that criminals are bad guys. Just because someone did something bad does not mean they are a

an innocent child, bringing in the topic of hope, and discussing values of divine worth and inherent
goodness. I used ethos by using a collected, motivational tone, writing at a formal level, and showing
my lack of bias by explaining that I ve been on the prosecuting side of criminal justice. Finally, I used

The Imf And The Crisis
The IMF and the Crisis in Greece
The IMF is one of a number of international organizations whose work is aimed at preventing
economic crisis and rebuilding economies. According to the Levin Institute, both the IMF and the
World Bank were started after WW2 in response to concerns about the stability of economic markets
around the world. While the World Bank now has a focus projects and sustainable development, the
IMF is primarily focused on fiscal policy with lending practices that are focused on crisis
management. Loans that come with significant conditions attached, including significant changes to
fiscal and monetary policy in the borrowing nation (Levin, n.d).
There are many examples of IMF projects that garnered heavy criticism in recent years. Brazil,
Argentina, Turkey, Korea, and Indonesia are a few examples, and now we can add Greece to the list.
The IMF invested in Greece in 2010 and in 2013, and have openly recognized that they misjudged the
effect austerity would have on the Greek economy (Elliot, L., Inman, P., Smith, H., 2013). They issued
a report that identified Notable failures , including failure in restoring market confidence, the banks 30
percent loss in deposits, high unemployment, waiting too long to restructure the nation s debt, and a

student and the faculty member. As simple as plagiarism is to do, plagiarizing is just as easy to get
caught. Students who resort to plagiarism during their college years do so to due to laziness or even
poor time management. All this is being done when the students should be trying to learn to be better
writers. But by plagiarizing they are only hurting themselves, when they will not be able to write
successfully a paper of any kind when asked to do so. Learning to be a successful writer is a crucial
part of the college experience. Students who do not learn to become effective writers will feel the
effects of this after they finish college and enter the working world. Graduates will soon learn and
wish that they had taken the time to build their writing skills while in school. Becoming an effective
writer and avoiding plagiarism is sometimes a difficult task. The rewards in the end can be very
fruitful. Businesses often call upon employees to use their college writing skills on a daily basis. The
Owl at Purdue states Give credit to researchers who have come before you but make your own

Faculty Empowerment the Changing University Environment
In our case Faculty Empowerment the Changing University Environment we came across two separate
subjects both of which our group can relate to and both of which correlate to each other. In the
beginning we reviewed the topic of nowadays Universities and what has changed recently and how
such change might have affected administrational structure on empowering faculty. We used the data
provided to us in the case study to determine the following facts. First, Universities Environment has
drastically changed during the last 6 years. Because of the rapidly changing workplace environment,
downfall of the economy and incredible technological improvements all caused a lot of adults ... Show

Parents, the general public and the media seem to applaud these efforts (Wiggins). The scores on these
standardized tests, such as the ITBS, are published in many local and statewide newspapers.
Universities are evaluated and compared to each other using predominately this test data. If this
teaching to the test is beneficial for raising university s test scores, then maybe we should change the
whole university environment to become more aligned with those elements that would foster
improvement on these tests. If it raises test scores it must be sound educational practice. Can this be
accurate? Empowerment Through Online Education
In a 2007 report published by the Sloan Consortium, most universities stated that the main reasons
they continued to expand their online education programs were because such programs improved
student access to education. For example, when universities offer courses online, they can work
around limited classroom space, instructor shortages, and conflicting course schedules to offer more
students more classes. Similarly, in taking an online course that allows them to complete assignments
at their own pace, students can work around their busy course and work schedules, as well as tailor
their coursework to their own personal learning styles. Students increasingly enroll in online courses
over their summer break while they live with their parents and work summer jobs.

Interpreting The Clansm A Historical Romance Of The Ku...
Interpreting The Clansman: A Historical Romance of the Ku Klux Klan and the Kloran
Thomas Dixon Jr. wrote The Clansman: A Historical Romance of the Ku Klux Klan (or simply The
Clansman) which was based largely on his background in religion. He was a Southern Baptist
minister. The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is a Christian denomination based in the United
States. It is the world s largest Baptist denomination and the largest Protestant body in the United
States.
The Ku Klux Klan is fundamentally a white supremacist group that believes the Caucasian race is
inherently above all others in the eyes of God. They are well organized, to the point that they use the
Kloran as a sort of guideline for their rituals and practices. As a primary source of knowledge, the
Kloran Both socially and politically, the Ku Klux Klan has inspired racism and civic divide in the
United states. The Kloran was even copyrighted in 1917 (Jackson, 6). The Clansman works to justify
this divide by claiming white racial superiority. Since The Clansman there has been historical
evidence of the Klan s influence on politics and society.
Through propaganda and editorialized works of hate like both The Clansman and the Kloran, violence
is provoked through justification of religion. The Ku Klux Klan has operated based on numerous
agendas, all of which are based on racial tension. Most currently, The Ku Klux Klan (or simply KKK )
is the name of three distinct past and present movements in the

How Did Australia Contribute To The Western Front
The Western Front was fought between 1914 and 1918 where the Australians contributed in many
different battles. After the outbreak of WW1 in 1914, the German Army opened the Western Front by
first invading Luxembourg and Belgium, then gaining military control of important industrial regions
in France. Australian forces contributed to 26 battles across Germany, Belgium and France, however
often ending in stalemate. Australians contributed through the enhancement of warfare and tactics,
conditions and cures and the commemoration of fallen soldiers. The Australians contribution the battle
of the Western Front is second to none and is highly recognised in the current community. Source 1 is

It shows the harsh and terrible conditions, which the Australian troops, experienced, whilst in the
trenches. Great, sleek, corpse fed rats ran in squads between our legs depicts the dirty conditions of
which, the Australians experienced, where sixteen per cent died from typhoid, dysentery and
gastroenteritis. This was the major cause of death in Australian troops. In the winter the weather
would get down to below zero. There were reports of Australians toes falling off, after freezing and
contracting gangrene. This would occur when the trenches were filled with mud up to their ankles in a
trench two metres wide and 2 metres high. When the Australians arrived at the Western front, the first
thing they saw were the lines of wounded soldiers being taken to the rear. As they got closer, they
could feet the earth shake, and hear the constant crump of artillery shells. This was known as trench
foot and not uncommon in Australian soldiers. George states, It is one of the things Kipling forgot to
tell us differing much from what they had expected the war to be like. The hard work and enduring
sacrifices that they made in these harsh conditions evaluates the contribution of Australian soldiers to
the Western Front

Dialogue Between Calisman And Alistair
Calan: You re strangely quiet, Alistair. Alistair: I m thinking about something. Morrigan: Do not strain
yourself. Alistair: Ha ha. I was thinking about something you said back at in the Wilds. Calan: (tense)
Oh? What s that? Alistair: Well, it felt more like a side conversation you and Flemeth were having, but
you didn t seem happy about it. She said Morrigan s magic would be useful and you nodded. Calan:
Magic can be useful. Alistair: No, it was something else, as if you were accepting something. Calan: I
was. Her shoving Morrigan out of the nest and into our group. Alistair: Then there s the way you fight.
Calan: What s wrong with the way I fight? Alistair: Nothing! That s it, you re too calculating,
especially for your personality. Calan: My personality?! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

style, and other times it s too, actually calculating isn t right, mechanically. You fight too mechanically

You also said you weren t bringing Morrigan because her mother said so. So why are you? Morrigan: I
m guessing he doesn t know. Calan: It s not exactly the easiest thing to bring up in a conversation.
Telling a templar you re an apostate would be easier. Morrigan: (hums lightly) Alistair: Still don t

Gmo s And The Plight Of Honey Bees
GMO s and the Plight of the Honey Bees
Most people do not worry about where their food comes from but they do worry about what goes into
it. More than one third of the population believe that GMO s are safe to eat while 52% believe they are
unsafe and 13% are unsure. To start what is GMO. Why is it so important to some people? What do
honeybees have to do with GMO s? These two are more closely related then people think. A GMO
(Genetically Modified Organism) is a laboratory process where genes from the DNA of one species is
extracted, then artificially forced into the genes of an unrelated plant or animal. The foreign genes may
come from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals or even humans. Example: The transgenic potato plants

This plan identified areas where more information was needed and developed a research priority list
additional research projects related to finding the cause/causes of CCD. Researchers suspect neonic
pesticides play some role in reported die offs and the mysterious Colony Collapse Disorder. In a report
released the week of January 10, 2016, the federal government has finally admitted neonicotinoids are
to blame for the catastrophic bee deaths that have occurred over the last several years. The report
confirms what environmentalists and beekeepers have implored for years: NEONICTINOIDS
WEAKEN, DISORIENT AND KILL HONEY BEES. Newsweek reported that honeybees in trucks
migrate to various regions of the country to pollinate an estimated $40 billion worth of the nation s
agricultural produce each year. That means that every third bite of food we eat comes as the result of
bees and other pollinators. That means they are responsible for 80% of all food crops in the US.
Industry is scrambling to manage the crisis, with Big Agriculture securing healthy honeybee hives
from wherever it can find them and transporting them around the country to pollinate crops. Some
regions in China are even hand

Cell Free DNA Case Study
Circulating tumor nucleic acids (ctNAs) composed of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), mRNA and
microRNA that are released and circulate in the blood of cancer patient, and changes in the levels of
ctNAs in the circulation have been associated with tumor burden, tumor stage, vascularity, cellular
turnover, response to therapy and metastasis12, 210 212.
It has been postulated that cell free DNA (cfDNA) can originates directly from the viable tumor cells
or from CTCs by apoptosis, necrosis, autophagy, micro environmental stress, mitotic catastrophe,
trauma and treatment procedure12, 213 220, others includes viruses, such as EBV, HPV and hepatitis

Withal, not all cfDNA originates from cell death; viable cells also release cfDNA as a part of
homeostasis215, 217, 246, 247. In addition to this, it has also been seen that incitements of
lymphocytes can results into release of large numbers of cfDNA in the absence of apoptosis or
necrosis216, 246, 248. Moreover, It has been suggested that cfDNA act as a ligand for Toll like
receptor 9 (TLR9) that may inhibit pro apoptotic caspases by virtue of TLR9 dependent signaling249.
This signifies a possible immunomodulatory role for cfDNA. These days cfDNA remains to be hot
topic and is widely used for wide range of research and clinical purposes, including tumor genotyping,
early cancer detection, patient prognosis, minimal residual disease monitoring, therapy evaluation,
biomarker in transplant surgery for graft injury and prediction of allograft rejection53, 250 262 .
Multiple studies have demonstrated that patients with invasive tumors such as lung, breast, pancreas,
colon, hepatocellular, ovarian, prostate, esophageal and melanoma generally have high level of ctDNA
in their plasma than in healthy individuals263 268. Several genomic studies of tumor mutations have
analyzed ctDNA to quantify tumor burden and to detect therapeutic resistance conferring
mutations211, 269 271. Moreover, a correlation has been set up

  • 5. The s The House Is Black Forugh Farrokhzad s The House is Black is a harrowing, disturbing, artfully made documentary, one of the few films directed by the Iranian poet Farrokhzad. Her subject here is leprosy, and she looks directly, uncompromisingly, at the devastation that this disease causes the human body. She does not look away, not from the cruelest deformations this disease generates. Her purpose was to expose the punishing and superfluous way that lepers continued to be treated in Iran, funneled into quarantined leper colonies where their disease went relatively untreated, causing them to slowly and painfully degenerate. Farrokhzad s film was deliberate in raising cognizance about these conditions, and to emphasize that this situation need not be. Produced during the reign of statist documentary cinema, Farrokhzad s work was a wild contrast from the other documentary films created in this timeframe. Farrokhzad s The House is Black deliberately and openly disobeyed the official style of Iranian documentaries during the 1960s, paving the way for Iranian New Wave cinema. From striking mirror scenes to deep pans of a classroom, Farrokhzad s auteurist interventions are more obvious than subtle although Farrokhzad s directorial hand is heavy in The House is Black, this documentary was among the first to reflect a powerful yet unnoticed reality against the wishes of the Iranian government. • 6. Truth Commission Reports in Argentina and Chile In the late 20th century, the South American countries of Argentina and Chile went through two considerably turbulent periods of violent clashes between governmental and military forces against native citizens. These clashes not only caused severe damage within both communities but also led to specific reconciliation recommendations by truth commission committees set out in Núnca Mas and the Rettig Report. These specific recommendations not only aided in the reconciliation process but also helped in the social, and political, development of both Argentinian and Chilean society. These reports were translated into multiple languages; recorded scores of people, who were hurt both physically and psychologically by these terrors, and mostly allowed for those with no voice to be heard not only by the countries involved, but by the world as a whole. In the end, the Argentinian and Chilean people effected by these atrocities not only were given the option of knowing the history of their countries, but ultimately the ability to feel protected and valued in the places they were hurt most. With the aide of truth commission report recommendations the societies effected were given a new chance at healing and rehabilitating their country, which mostly was destroyed both physically and mentally. These reports not only give a direct and unabridged version of the story of the conflict, but also gave the victims of these countries, as well as the world, one history they can all be agreed ... • 7. Federal Bureau Of Investigation And Its Legal Implications Federal Bureau of Investigation takes all cases of alleged terrorist activity seriously, and they thoroughly investigate each case. According to Roth (2014), instead of seeking solely to identify individuals who are actively engaged in criminal conduct, now agents also have deliberately sought to identify individuals who might be willing to aid acts of terrorism, even if they are not currently involved in such activities (p. 981). The vagueness of the term willing and its legal implications can hardly be exaggerated. Law enforcement professionals from the Federal Bureau of Investigation have developed sophisticated mechanisms to obtain valid evidence that a person or a group of people has the intention to act as terrorists. The use of confidential informants has become a gold standard in investigating these cases, but not all law enforcement professionals can meet the legal requirements and avoid the risks of entrapment. It is important, however, to ensure that your confidential informant has been thoroughly vetted so that their actions and integrity regarding the case cannot be called into questions and allegations validated regarding the evidence obtained as a result of their involvement. Recently, the case of the Inland Empire men accused of organizing a terrorist plot has become highlighted news in the United States (Hansen, 2014). • 8. Examples Of Social Judgment Theory Heald, J. E. (1991). Social Judgment Theory: Applications to Educational Decision Making. Educational Administration Quarterly, 27(3), 343 57. This study (Heald, 1991) uses social judgment theory, a theory that is supposedly nontraditional to the field of education to improve the ability of school administrators in identifying more accurately students who are at risk of dropping out of school. The study argues that social judgment theory, although it is not traditionally utilized in educational decision making, has significant potential in that area. Particularly, the researchers argue that social judgment theory offers decision makers (perhaps not just those in educational settings) the opportunity to better understand the nature of their intuitions, inferences, and biases and the role they play in their judgments (p. 355). • 9. Theme Of Redemption In Gran Torino GRAN TORINO Identify critical moments in the film Gran Torino where Walt Kowalski is transformed from a racist tormented character to a compassionate father figure. Gran Torino is a film directed by Clint Eastwood, with Eastwood who is also taking on the key role as the main character and protagonist; Walt Kowalski. Eastwood plays a retired auto worker and Korean War veteran who feels emptiness in his life. His character is happiest on his home porch, beer in hand, dog his only ally, his lawn immaculate, despising the many Asian, Latino and black families in his neighborhood. However, the redemption of such a character is critical to the storyline as Walt becomes a reluctant hero, standing up to gang members who have totally unsettled his lifestyle; an attempted theft of his prized possession, a 1972 Gran Torino, sets Walt on a mission to rectify things for himself and his Hmong neighbors. Eastwood uses symbolism and cinemograph techniques to exemplify the theme of redemption. The most notable moment when Walt becomes a father figure, is when he confronts the gang at their house, just after sue was raped and beaten. The film explores the possibility of redemption, second chances , and the hope that comes from having a positive future. Both Walt and Thao experience redemption in the film. Walt is saved from the guilt of a murderous past as a soldier and the disappointment of broken relationships within his own immediate family. Ultimately, Walt finds peace with himself, with others and with God. Walt s young neighbour, Thao is rescued from a future of crime and violence, and the shame of attempted theft. Ultimately, Thao gains a future as a hard working, respectable American citizen and man. It is evident from the beginning of the movie that Walt has a hard line attitude towards the church, which is partly because of the pain and torment he experienced from Korea. Walt exhibits strong racial slurs as he had strong racial prejudices, also mainly because of the 50 s style of thinking he has and likewise from the time in Korea, as this is how they talked about them. It is symbolic as he still thought and spoke like that back after the war, showing the audience that he is still at war, not with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is issued by the fifth president James Monroe but it was written by the Secretary of State John Quincy Adams. It was issued on December 7th 1823. It is one of the major foreign policy statements. The Monroe Doctrine also warns European nations to not create new colonies in America. It is sometimes called America s diplomatic declaration of independence. • 12. Fixed and Variable Costs Health services managers are essentially interested in how costs are affected by changes in volume. Cost behavior refers to a cost s reactions to activity level. A cost may rise, fall, or remain constant as activity levels fluctuate. We can classify several types of costs on the basis of their relationship to the amount of services provided, often referred to as activity, utilization, or volume (Gapenski, 2012). When dealing with the future there is a level of uncertainty of volume with regard to inpatient days, number of emergency visits, number of unforeseen complications, number of additional unaccounted for testing procedures and so on. Variable costs apply at a per unit basis, only the behavior of the variable per unit cost is different. For example, if supplies for a one lab test cost $10, the variable cost per test remains constant. Although the cost of the test remains the same, the total costs associated with the test will increase or decrease in relation with the volume of tests at the hospital. Cost behavior refers to the relationship between a given cost item and the quantity of it s related cost driver. It explains how the total amount for various costs respond to changes in volume. When volume is zero, variable costs equal zero. If there are no lab tests being performed, there are no variable costs incurred. Fixed costs on the other hand do not change in response to a change in volume. The monthly cost to rent a clinic would stay constant whether they had 50 or 100 lab tests, because that is a fixed cost. Cost Allocation Cost allocation is essentially a pricing process within the organization whereby managers allocate the costs of one department to other departments. Typically, the overhead costs of the healthcare business, such as those incurred by administrators, facilities management personnel, financial staff, housekeeping and maintenance personnel, must be allocated to those departments that generate revenues for the organization. Managers at Central Market take pride in their work, because it is something they have created. Central Market leaders inspire Partners to find their own solutions through the training that is provided in the company. The training will be discussed later on in depth, but simply put it is extensive and educates Partners on the day to day operations of the company. Also at Central Market research and development is acceptable which allows space to innovate. Leadership takes place throughout the corporate structure at Central Market. Pregnancy Prevention Essay Pregnancy Prevention Introduction: Pregnancy is not always a planned or wanted event in peoples lives, and so we have man made ways to prevent pregnancy from happening. Everyone has the freedom of choice, both male and female, so therefore there are both male and female methods of contraception. There is an expansive range of contraception methods world wide, and they can be as extreme as being operated on, such as having a tubal ligation or a vasectomy. The more minor options are using condoms or taking a type of contraceptive pill. In this essay I will also talk about the different factors which effect the way people feel about contraception, as many people have beliefs which may not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the World Health Organization (WHO) describes EC as a contraceptive method used by women in the first few days following unprotected intercourse to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Some conservative political and religious organizations seek to limit women s reproductive choices by an inaccurately characterizing EC as abortion, when in fact; the WHO considers it a safe contraceptive. Respect for women s rights to reproduce self determination also requires governments to ensure that women give their full, informed consent before receiving a contraceptive method. Government policies that disregard a women s own wishes in order to meet demographic goals put women in danger of coercive and violent practices. Subjecting women to surgical sterilization or administering contraceptive injections or implants without her informed consent, for example, violates women s fundamental reproductive rights. Consistent and correct use of modern methods of contraception can prevent many unwanted pregnancies. In order to meet their international commitments, governments must improve access for men, women, and adolescents to high quality family planning information and services that offer a range of freely chosen contraceptive methods. • 21. The Jazz And The Blues Music and dancing was also another influence that occurred during this time period. Jazz and the Blues were the most common and well known types of music, which could have sometimes been involved in the types of dancing that happened in the Roaring 20s. The type of music that we call jazz was a great turning point between the whites and the African Americans who were segregated. It lessened the amount of segregation between the two races and brought people of all races together no matter what color they were. The music helped people that were in need of jobs and the main places that were affected were New York and Chicago. An important figure in the history of jazz was Louis Armstrong who played the trumpet and cornet to play his music. Along with jazz, the blues was a type of music that was inspired by the African Americans of that time. The African Americans that started the blues were in churches or either in hollers working in the fields. They would sing these songs as they worked hard on the long days on the farm. The blues first started from the African Americans located in the Mississippi Delta. There were many different types of dances that are still being used today even though it was made about a hundred years ago. Some of these dances included the Charleston, the Tango, the Shimmy, and many more other dances. Dance was the entertainment of the daily lives of many people. • 23. Oppression Of Gender Roles In Wonder Woman By Christian Stoic Like I previously mentioned, the genre of action and adventure is so diverse, and there are so many heroines and female characters, it is hard to argue that women in action roles strictly have a negative impact on female viewers. Also, it would be completely inappropriate to argue that women in lead action roles have no positive impacts on female viewers. As society continues to advance, female heroines are also evolving and moving further away from the traditionally hypersexualized characters. Instead, these heroines are easier for women to identify with, they are extremely strong and independent female leads, and they are dressed more practically/appropriately. A few examples of these new age action heroines include Jessica Jones, Alicia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done when it comes to female heroines, and I hope that in time (sooner rather than later) these women heroines will serve strictly to empower and inspire women of all ages. One reason that these heroines are sexualized and dumbed down more often than not might be due to the lack of equality in terms of male and female directors. In an article written by Yohana Desta, it states that There are about 23.8 male directors for every female director (Desta 2017), and also that Women were more likely to direct dramas, and less likely to direct science fiction or action films which are, imperatively, often the most successful and lucrative genres in the business (Desta 2017). Since these lead female roles are written and created mainly by men and not women, they are more aimed at a male audience. This is most likely why these women s bodies are focused on more than making these characters into well rounded heroines that could serve to inspire women. I believe that in order to transition from these heroines negatively impacting females, to these heroines serving to empower women, there first needs to be an increase in the number of female directors in Hollywood. The EI mass spectra for these isomers show a number of unique ions which allow for the differentiation of the 1 alkyl 3 acylindole compounds from the inverse regioisomeric 1 acyl 3 alkylindoles. The base peak at m/z 214 in the 1 n pentyl 3 benzoylindole represents the M 77 cation fragment resulting from the loss of the phenyl group and this ion is not observed in the inverse isomer. The 1 benzoyl 3 n pentylindole inverse regioisomer shows a base peak at m/z 105 for the benzoyl cation. Thus, these two base peaks are the result of fragmentation initiated at the carbonyl oxygen for both isomers. The 1 pentyl 3 benzoylindole is characterized by the strong intensity carbonyl band at 1703 cm 1 while the amide carbonyl appears as a strong band of equal intensity at 1681 cm 1 in the 1 benzoyl 3 pentyl regioisomer. 1. This ensemble consisted of saxes, trombones, trumpets, drums, a piano, and bass. The concert showcased many individual talents by including solo s or duet s in every song. The program consisted of seven songs with no intermission. The pieces I selected were Big Dipper by Thad Jones and Undecided by Frank Mantooth. The composition Big Dipper by Thad Jones consisted of a duet by Hunter Horby playing the tenor sax and Ryan McArthur playing the trumpet. The tone of the piece was in major. It had a happy feel to it and made you want to get up and dance. It was moderato in tempo, meaning it was an average pace of beats. It kicked off with a quick crescendo from mezzo piano, or medium soft, to forte, or loud. The tenor sax and the trumpet had the melody and the rest of the instruments were the background music for most of the piece however, the rest of the ensemble had their time to shine with the melody a couple of times. I felt as if I was in the 1950 s listening to swing music and jazz. The texture felt dancelike and brassy. Jones incorporated many accents and staccato markings throughout the composition. The song had many contrasts with pitches and dynamics. Most of the crescendo s and decrescendo s seemed to be directly related to the amount of instruments being played. Proper education and practicing citations along with the use of online tools will assist the student in preparing citations. Self plagiarism Self plagiarism is perhaps one of the most common but most overlooked forms of plagiarism. Simply put, self plagiarism involves the handing in of the same work for more than one assignment (MacDonell, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To avoid inadvertent plagiarism students should learn and practice these skills until they are second nature. Conclusion Avoiding plagiarism in academic writing is something that must be taken seriously by both faculty and students. Many online tools exist that can be used to avoid plagiarism, both for the student and the faculty member. As simple as plagiarism is to do, plagiarizing is just as easy to get caught. Students who resort to plagiarism during their college years do so to due to laziness or even poor time management. All this is being done when the students should be trying to learn to be better writers. But by plagiarizing they are only hurting themselves, when they will not be able to write successfully a paper of any kind when asked to do so. Learning to be a successful writer is a crucial part of the college experience. Students who do not learn to become effective writers will feel the effects of this after they finish college and enter the working world. Graduates will soon learn and wish that they had taken the time to build their writing skills while in school. Becoming an effective writer and avoiding plagiarism is sometimes a difficult task. The rewards in the end can be very fruitful. Businesses often call upon employees to use their college writing skills on a daily basis. Faculty Empowerment the Changing University Environment In our case Faculty Empowerment the Changing University Environment we came across two separate subjects both of which our group can relate to and both of which correlate to each other. In the beginning we reviewed the topic of nowadays Universities and what has changed recently and how such change might have affected administrational structure on empowering faculty. We used the data provided to us in the case study to determine the following facts. First, Universities Environment has drastically changed during the last 6 years. Parents, the general public and the media seem to applaud these efforts (Wiggins). The scores on these standardized tests, such as the ITBS, are published in many local and statewide newspapers. Universities are evaluated and compared to each other using predominately this test data. If this teaching to the test is beneficial for raising university s test scores, then maybe we should change the whole university environment to become more aligned with those elements that would foster improvement on these tests. If it raises test scores it must be sound educational practice. Can this be accurate? Empowerment Through Online Education In a 2007 report published by the Sloan Consortium, most universities stated that the main reasons they continued to expand their online education programs were because such programs improved student access to education. For example, when universities offer courses online, they can work around limited classroom space, instructor shortages, and conflicting course schedules to offer more students more classes. Similarly, in taking an online course that allows them to complete assignments at their own pace, students can work around their busy course and work schedules, as well as tailor their coursework to their own personal learning styles. Students increasingly enroll in online courses over their summer break while they live with their parents and work summer jobs. Online Education s Historical Counterpart Online educations ... Interpreting The Clansman: A Historical Romance of the Ku Klux Klan and the Kloran Thomas Dixon Jr. wrote The Clansman: A Historical Romance of the Ku Klux Klan (or simply The Clansman) which was based largely on his background in religion. He was a Southern Baptist minister. The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is a Christian denomination based in the United States. It is the world s largest Baptist denomination and the largest Protestant body in the United States. The Ku Klux Klan is fundamentally a white supremacist group that believes the Caucasian race is inherently above all others in the eyes of God. They are well organized, to the point that they use the Kloran as a sort of guideline for their rituals and practices. As a primary source of knowledge, the Kloran Both socially and politically, the Ku Klux Klan has inspired racism and civic divide in the United states. The Kloran was even copyrighted in 1917 (Jackson, 6). The Clansman works to justify this divide by claiming white racial superiority. Since The Clansman there has been historical evidence of the Klan s influence on politics and society. Through propaganda and editorialized works of hate like both The Clansman and the Kloran, violence is provoked through justification of religion. The Ku Klux Klan has operated based on numerous agendas, all of which are based on racial tension. This was the major cause of death in Australian troops. In the winter the weather would get down to below zero. There were reports of Australians toes falling off, after freezing and contracting gangrene. This would occur when the trenches were filled with mud up to their ankles in a trench two metres wide and 2 metres high. When the Australians arrived at the Western front, the first thing they saw were the lines of wounded soldiers being taken to the rear. As they got closer, they could feet the earth shake, and hear the constant crump of artillery shells. This was known as trench foot and not uncommon in Australian soldiers. More than one third of the population believe that GMO s are safe to eat while 52% believe they are unsafe and 13% are unsure. To start what is GMO. Why is it so important to some people? What do honeybees have to do with GMO s? These two are more closely related then people think. A GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) is a laboratory process where genes from the DNA of one species is extracted, then artificially forced into the genes of an unrelated plant or animal. Newsweek reported that honeybees in trucks migrate to various regions of the country to pollinate an estimated $40 billion worth of the nation s agricultural produce each year. That means that every third bite of food we eat comes as the result of bees and other pollinators. That means they are responsible for 80% of all food crops in the US. Cell Free DNA Case Study Circulating tumor nucleic acids (ctNAs) composed of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), mRNA and microRNA that are released and circulate in the blood of cancer patient, and changes in the levels of ctNAs in the circulation have been associated with tumor burden, tumor stage, vascularity, cellular turnover, response to therapy and metastasis12, 210 212. It has been postulated that cell free DNA (cfDNA) can originates directly from the viable tumor cells or from CTCs by apoptosis, necrosis, autophagy, micro environmental stress, mitotic catastrophe, trauma and treatment procedure12, 213 220, others includes viruses, such as EBV, HPV and hepatitis B virus221 223. Withal, not all cfDNA originates from cell death; viable cells also release cfDNA as a part of homeostasis215, 217, 246, 247. In addition to this, it has also been seen that incitements of lymphocytes can results into release of large numbers of cfDNA in the absence of apoptosis or necrosis216, 246, 248. Moreover, It has been suggested that cfDNA act as a ligand for Toll like receptor 9 (TLR9) that may inhibit pro apoptotic caspases by virtue of TLR9 dependent signaling249. This signifies a possible immunomodulatory role for cfDNA. These days cfDNA remains to be hot topic and is widely used for wide range of research and clinical purposes, including tumor genotyping, early cancer detection, patient prognosis, minimal residual disease monitoring, therapy evaluation, biomarker in transplant surgery for graft injury and prediction of allograft rejection53, 250 262 . Multiple studies have demonstrated that patients with invasive tumors such as lung, breast, pancreas, colon, hepatocellular, ovarian, prostate, esophageal and melanoma generally have high level of ctDNA in their plasma than in healthy individuals263 268. Several genomic studies of tumor mutations have analyzed ctDNA to quantify tumor burden and to detect therapeutic resistance conferring mutations211, 269 271.
