Exile In Brave New World
Exile is a subject very few touch upon. Exile is never really spoken about because once you are
alienated by those you once considered friends or family, a gaping hole opens and no one really knows
how to explain it other than just that; a hole that can only be filled with the one place on earth you feel
safe; home. When exiled, a rift opens between the individual that was cast out and their home, and
family and friends. This so called rift that opens between a person and their home is evident in Brave
New World with John s life. John is a white man who is interested in the tribal customs of the Indians,
in this novel called savages , which are very different and looked down upon by the citizens of the
World State society. John s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Malpais people isolate John because he is white and this sets him apart from the Savages. John is
excluded from the rituals and tribal customs of the Malpais people. He is seen as an outcast also
because his mother is viewed as very immoral. On the Savage Reservation John tells Bernard Marx
that he feels neither welcome nor wanted, he says he is alone, always alone. (pg 91) Although John is
exiled, the experience of living on the Reservation is enlightening because he is able to step back and
see how others treat one another. This helps him to develop as a character because he comes from a
life full of hardships and troubling times so he understands what those who are treated poorly feel.
John s attitude toward his mother is extremely protective, which builds their relationship later in the
novel. John s exile came at an early age when he was born. John was born naturally rather than being
hatched at the D.H.C. Natural birth is no longer accepted in the New World so when John is born he is
shipped off to live on the Savage Reservation. Growing up on the Savage Reservation shows John just
how different he is from both the citizens of the World State and the Malpais people. His morals and
beliefs are far from the immoral values that those of the New World have, and his skin color coupled
with how his mother is viewed sets him apart from the

Ultimate Reality Vs Western Religion
Extended response:
How is Ultimate Reality viewed differently from and Eastern and Western Perspective?
Ultimate Reality in religion is viewed differently when comparing Eastern to Western beliefs, but
there are some similarities: both want to achieve something in the afterlife.
In Western religions such as Catholicism and Islam, the belief of Ultimate Reality is that there is a
God and he is transcendent and monotheistic.. In addition, there is also the belief of an evil existence
or commonly known as the devil . In the extract from the Catholic Bible, it states No one has seen
God and that in him was life, and the life was the light of the men, which indicates their God is
powerful enough and on another level compared to themselves

Departures Storm Jameson
In Departures, Storm Jameson depicts her isolation as a child and its continuation into adulthood.
Behind the cold barriers that Jameson builds around herself in both her child and adult life, an
unending cycle of fear continues within her. This cycle is reflected in the narrative structure of the
anecdote. Jameson s authorial choices to employ Labov s elements in a disjointed fashion and have a
brief complicating action reinforce her social detachment both as a child and an adult. Along with the
disjointed narrative elements, an omitted coda and resolution convey that the detachment continues
throughout her life in a cycle of fear and isolation. With the intent of creating a structural detachment
that reflects her own emotional detachment, Jameson, as author, puts together an orientation and
complicating action that don t appear to go together. On a September train ride, distant memories and
thoughts blur past the grown Jameson s eyes, such as the journeys made feverish by unmanageable
longings and ambitions, night journeys in wartime (15) and continue to make their way to the
forefront of her mind with a picture of the darkened corridor crammed with young men in clumsy
khaki, smoking, falling asleep, [and] journeys with a heavy baby in one arm (Jameson 15). Before
Jameson as adult can make her way back to her memory as a child, she must travel through many
other memories of departures and journeys. This roundabout way in which Jameson brings her reader
into her memories structurally reflects the detached feelings she has for herself as a child. It suggests a
physiological separation between Jameson and herself because she cannot easily think about her past.
These detached feelings are enforced textually when she uses the third person to refer to herself as the
child (15) and to those presumably close to her like her mother, whom she calls the captain s wife
(16). By creating this structural and textual detachment, Jameson emphasizes her emotional isolation
from herself as a child. Before speaking about herself as a child, she must search through her
memories like a knot of adders uncoiling themselves, (15) which suggests that it is painful for
Jameson to reach back to her childhood

Ocean Protection and Conservation
The oceans need to be protected because it is where life began and if not taken care of, life as we
know it will end. When dangerous substances go into the ocean, ecosystems are suffer and become
endangered along with lives of people and of marine life. Surfrider Foundation recognizes the
importance of protecting and preserving the quality and biodiversity of the world s coasts because they
are truly irreplaceable. There is also historical evidence of ocean pollution being present in the past,
but the problem still lingers today. Heal the Bay discovered that, Did you know there is a DDT and
PCB hot spot off the coast of Palos Verdes? This superfund site (which indicates it s one of the most
polluted places in the United States), is left ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Surfrider s Blue Water Task Force, has been testing the ocean water of 19 beaches around the South
Bay area for a bacteria called Enterococcus (MPN/100 ml) and concluded that for the year 2012, more
than 200 tests reported, 23% of them reporting high bacteria levels, high being 104 MPN/100ml. With
more people trying to help the ocean, the amount of tests being made are increasing and more people
become aware of the problems that are occurring and are more willing to help stop it. Leaving plastic
on the beach or throwing trash on the floor can cause it to go into the ocean, creating a dangerous
environment for marine life especially since plastic never goes away, it can only get smaller. People
do not realize that the trash that they throw on the floor , even if someone lives inland, can end up in
the ocean. One of Algalita s sponsored programs called Plastic Debris Rivers to Seas inform, Nearly
80% of marine debris comes from land based sources.(4) Most of the land based debris is conveyed to
oceans via urban runoff through storm drains. The main sources of plastic and other types of
anthropogenic (human made) debris in urban runoff include: litter (mostly bags, packaging and single
use disposable products), industrial discharges, garbage transportation, landfills, construction debris,
and debris from commercial establishments and public

Sports Violence Must Be Abolished
Hockey, football, and boxing all share something in common; and no I am not referring to the skill,
quickness, and finesse that is required for these sports. I am indeed referring to the intense physicality
that all three of these sports strongly value. As a devoted hockey fan, I am a witness to a great part of
the physicality that takes place. Therefore, I am well aware and understand that physicality is crucial
in order to compete in most sports, but we have to draw the line somewhere. When there is primary
intent to injure and physically hurt someone this is considered violence . Violence is becoming
increasingly prevalent in sports, and a majority of society is passive to the negative effects it is
imposing on society. Certain sports fanatics may want to argue that intense physicality and violence is
crucial for entertainment, as it brings in viewers. They may also state that athletes themselves would
not prefer to have that component eliminated as well. In terms of professional hockey, a poll
conducted by the National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA) revealed that a staggering 98
percent of hockey players did not want the fighting component to be eliminated in hockey, thus
confirming that most athletes may want the physical nature to remain the same. However, extended
research revealed that approximately 68 percent of Canadian hockey fans disagreed with the players
and wanted fighting in professional hockey to be eliminated. Keeping that surprising

Diffusion And Diffusion Of Diffusion
Cultural Diffusion Diffusion occurs when people, their ideas and things move from one location to
another location. There are several types of diffusion that can occur. According to The Human Mosaic
there are five types of diffusion that can occur. The first type of diffusion that occurs is called
relocation diffusion. Relocation diffusion occurs when an individual or individuals migrate and bring
along certain traits and ideas with them to the new location. Examples of traits that some people bring
with them are their languages, certain mannerisms, religions, their dress and even their diet. One
example of a trait that is highly diffused is Christianity. We can see from the map on page 28 and 29
that Christianity is a religion that is highly diffused throughout many countries. From the map it shows
that Christianity is found in locations such as Australia, Brazil, USA and Russia (Smith 28,29).
Another type of diffusion is expansion diffusion. During expansion diffusion, practices and ideas are
spread over a population from one area to the next having a snowball effect. Expansion diffusion has a
total of three different subtypes. The first subtype of expansion diffusion is hierarchical diffusion.
With Hierarchical diffusion only select populations are affected by traits and ideas being diffused.
Hierarchical diffusion is thought to affect individuals who are of higher importance or from one urban
area to another urban area, skipping the rural places in between. An

Debt Ratio Analysis Of Walt Disney Company
The table below shows the analysis of the debt ratio. The Debt ratio helps in analyzing the
organization s ability to pay off its long term debts through its total assets. The debt ratio of the Walt
Disney Company remains below 50% in 2013,2014 and 2015. This shows that Walt Disney company
is conservative in nature and taking less, risk which may reduce the profitability for the company due
to lack of trade equity. However, a lower debt ratio reduces the risk of bankruptcy. Debt to equity ratio
is 0.81, 0.75, 0.69 for the year 2015, 2014 2013 respectively. Debt to equity ratio shows the gradual
increase year by year, this increase means that the increasing the debt to equity level could benefit the
company by reducing the cost of capital.

Propensity-Score Matching (Psm). The Propensity Score...
Propensity Score Matching (PSM)
The propensity score matching model is a method used to evaluate the average effect of a programme
on participants outcome, conditional on the pre participation characteristics of such participants
(Bryson, Dorsett, Purdon, 2002). The PSM technique has been applied widely in a variety of fields in
the program evaluation (Heinrich et al., 2010).The model is appropriate for addressing the problem of
selection bias (Wooldridge, 2002) in determining the difference between the participant s outcome
with (in this case adoption of weather index insurance) and without (non adoption of the weather
index insurance) programme (Pufahl Weiss, 2008). Pufahl Weiss also note that participants and non

Instrumental variables and design approach, though suitable raises difficulties in finding a suitable
instrument because, in identifying the treatment effect, one needs at least one regressor which
determines participation, but is not itself determined by the factors which affect outcomes (Blundell
Costa Dias, 2000; J. J. Heckman, 1995).
The regression discontinuity method on the other hand needs a large number of farmers next to the
discontinuity to draw meaningful decision. However, this is difficult because the further one moves
from the discontinuity line the more the variable characteristics vary (Winters et al., 2010). PSM
assumes that farmers who receive treatment and those who do not, differ not only in treatment, but
also in characteristics that affect participation and the outcome (Heinrich et al., 2010). It thus seeks
untreated (in our case non adopters of weather index) farmers who have the same characteristics of the
treated (adopters of weather index) farmers and matching them using propensity scores and thus
creating a quasi experiment (Winters et al., 2010). The propensity score was therefore used to estimate
the probability of receiving treatment (adoption of

Meredith Monk Minimalism
David Carrillo TA: Joshua Bauder
Meredith Monk, Early Morning Melody
Early Morning Melody by Meredith Monk is a song with many minimalistic aspects. Repetition and
isolation of the human voice are two examples of it. (26 words)
The short song Early Morning Melody by Meredith Monk has a beautiful melody that repeats four
times with the third time having one different note. The repetition of this melody ironically does not
feel redundant, as the listener is likely to have mental pictures on how they interpret the song. For
example, thinking of how someone would really sing this for an early morning activity, like taking a
shower or cooking. Another image that may come to the listener s mind could be a much sadder scene:
perhaps a song for a funeral, or how the use of repetition could simbolize a lack of direction. (105
words) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While some believe the correct use of minimalism has some of the most profound and powerful ways
of communicating a message or a mental image, others find it too abstract, simplistic or even boring.
The short piece Early Morning Melody by the American composer, Meredith Monk, utilizes
minimalistic tools to evoke many emotions and reactions from the listeners. The use of a solo voice
and repetition of a simple, yet touching melody are two examples of how the minimalism is displayed.
The melody is repeated a total of four times and only the third has a small difference, so minuscule
that it is literally just one note that is different. It should also be noted that the unique note could even
be in the same harmonic progression of the passage. This is clearly done on purpose and, as explained
earlier, leads to as many interpretations as the amount of people listening to

Cleveland Clinic Personal Statement
I chose to complete my senior project with a nurse at the Cleveland Clinic to assess hands on whether
I would find success in my own future as a nurse and eventually as a nurse practitioner. Initially, I was
rather anxious that I would not be able to endure the long hours of fast paced thinking and caretaking.
However, my advisor reassured me that this is something that will come with experience and even
though I was only shadowing for two weeks I found myself quickly adapting to the rigor required of a
nurse. Working with my advisor, Allie Rhoten I gained insight from her and other nurses on the best
way to pursue a career as a nurse practitioner (NP). They recommended to me that I finished my BSN

Analysis Of Hamlet And Ophelia In Hamlet
1.) Hamlet and Ophelia are by far the most complex characters in the play, and I believe the reason for
their demise their fathers. Claudius, Polonius, and Hamlet senior are all the blame for Hamlet and
Ophelia s mental breakdown. This is because he came back as a ghost and test are soft hearted hero to
murder his uncle, Hamlet was grieving and peace up until the point is ghost daddy arrived and told
him the truth about his untimely death. Its suggested by Amanda Mabillard, Hamlet was more or less
insane from the time at which the ghost appeared to him , and i totally agree. Claudius is to blame for
more obvious reasons, I guess you can start the list with the fact that he killed Hamlet s dad, he stole
the kingdom from him, he took his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I feel hamlet senior is to blame as well; he never taught his son how to handle/ talk two women. I also
feel like he didn t teach Hamlet how to control his emotions, this led to Hamlet being a complete mess
when Gertrude was forced to break up with him.
2.) I feel like religion drives a lot of the characters action and the plot itself. The major in your face
example is the whole concept of King Hamlet s Ghost. Is it a tortured spirit in limbo, or a demon from
hell causing mischief? This idea is brought up by Hamlet when he first encounters the ghost in Act II
Scene IV Lines 43 47, Angels and ministers of grace, defend us! Be thou a spirit of health or goblin
damned, Bring with thee airs from heaven or blasts from hell, Be thy intents wicked or charitable... .
Hamlet sates he doesn t quite know if it s a good or bad spirit, but is willing to talk to it either way. On
the lines of religion and spirits/ghosts, this is the reason Hamlet does not kill Claudius when he has the
perfect opportunity. Due to the fact he was praying, Hamlet decided not to kill him because of the
chance he may go to heaven. Another example would be how Hamlet feels about his life. In his
soliloquy in Act To be, or not to be. he ponders the idea of death and weighs his options, live a dreary
life, or have a sinful death. I mean like what if Hamlet was an atheist? The entire play wouldn t have
happened. The ghost would have come, Hamlet would have been like cool dude , and

Realism In The Picture Of Dorian Gray
Wilde combines both the ornamental and the natural elements of the definition of aestheticism here by
describing both the Persian saddle bags and honey coloured blossoms. The set description is so
enamoring that one could almost miss Lord Henry Wotton, instead engaging their imagination in the
appreciation of the objects around him. The descriptions are so elegantly articulated by Wilde that they
can only be imagined through their beauty alone; one would not imagine plain tables and chairs while
reading this, and the descriptions are certainly not modest as George Eliot describes in her definition
of realism. This also eliminates any need for a collective spectacle; the objects simply are what they
are. The entertaining language that Wilde uses in his descriptions work in satisfying his argument for
aestheticism. Wilde also spends a lot of his time making the characters in The Picture of Dorian Gray
aesthetic focused. For Wilde, the only character who gives in to the idea of realism is Basil Hallward
by putting far too much of himself into his own painting. Basil is the physical characterization of
Wilde s criticism of artists in his preface; he does not conceal the artist when creating Dorian s
portrait. Basil even claims that the real Dorian is the painting and not the living Dorian standing
before him, saying I shall stay with the real Dorian when prompted to attend the theatre with Dorian
and Henry Wotton (Wilde 28). Since the real Dorian is not to

other architects about the old and new styles that we are using today and how they were used during
the 1880s. Glancey purpose was to apprise people about the different styles and techniques that are
used around the world for architecture. Furthermore, he wants people to know how those different
styles are being implemented to our buildings and our designs today. Glancey wants everyone to have
more information about architecture, so they can formulate their own ideas and manufacture what they
want to build. This book informs us about the different uses of materials that they use for architecture

Restitution As A Means Of Reconciling Offender
Restitution as a means of rehabilitating offenders tries to give the offenders a better understanding of
what they have done, and the effects they have caused due to their actions. Punishing them with jail
time does not seem to be enough to get offenders to understand the magnitude of their crime. If they
have the ability to pay back the victims it will give them a sense of accomplishment and will allow
them to feel as if they are doing good and correcting their mistakes. Restitution as a means of
reconciling offender and their victims give the ideology that if they fully paid the person they hurt that
they can both put their anger behind them and move on from what had happened. Restitution as a

Political Ideology In Pakistan Research Paper
Ideology
Ideology is a comprehensive set of normative beliefs, conscious and unconscious ideas, that an
individual, group or society has. In social studies, a political ideology is a certain ethical set of ideals,
principles, doctrine or symbols of a social movement, or a large group that explains how a society
should work .1 Political ideologies are concerned with many different aspects of society including the
economy, education, health care, justice system and foreign policy.
There are two dimensions to political ideologies:
Goals

Goals refer to beliefs of a party about how a government and country should work and methods refers
to the path a party may take to achieve them.

The Hagia Sophi The Nika Riot
The Hagia Sophia came out of the Nika riot. This impressive structure was part of a reconstruction
effort by emperor Justinian and his wife Theodora, after most of Constantinople was burned. The
Hagia Sophia is a beautiful church with a central dome that has a diameter of 101 feet, two half domes
that double the interior length of the church to 200 feet. This awe inspiring building has had an
eventful history and after the capture of Constantinople in 1453 by the Turks who then added the
minaret(s). This paper will explore the minaret that was thought to be the first, and what the role of
this was.
A minaret is a tower typically found adjacent to mosques, traditionally used for the Muslim call to
prayer. The Hagia Sophia started out as a Christian church, but after being taken over in 1453 was

They then added a minaret which was the first sign of conversion from church to mosque. (28)
Over the year s historians have accepted that the minarets were added by different sultans which was
emphasized by the fact that they used different materials to build these huge towers that stand
approximately 60m tall. (28 29) There are four minarets but the original one is thought to have been
removed in the sixteenth century. (28) A few days after the fall of Constantinople a tower appears to
have been constructed. The Turks seemed to use this tower pending the completing of their minaret.
The minaret was to be constructed on the turret at the south side of the west window. Between 1453
and 181 Mehmed the Conqueror decided to make a grand minaret. To do this they may have used the
neglected tower of the Byzantine empire. In April of 1573 the minaret was in need of repair of
external buttresses and so was the tower over the main entrance, which may have still been used

Essay about Mergers in the World Economy
Mergers in the World Economy
. Monopoly is a great enemy to good management which can never be universally established but in
consequence of that free and universal competition which forces every body to have recourse to it for
the sake of self defense (Smith, 1776: 63).
Adam Smith found that monopolies were a negative aspect for an economy therefore supporting
competition among firms in order to protect one s firm.
Competition policy affects the nature of firms and policy makers in today s global economy.
Competition policy effects the world economy in many ways and with its increase in importance there
must be an international agreement on competition policy. Adam Smith highly regarded competition
policy as a means to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without any policies firms could try and monopolize the industry and there would not be restrictions
for new producers into the market.
Competition policy effects many parts of the global economy. It impacts actions such as mergers,
trade policies, acquisitions and strategic business alliances. Smith examines how trade is related to
competition policy when trade is privileged for a few. Privilege of an incorporated trade restrains the
competition in the town where it is established to those who are free of the trade (Smith, 1776: 135).
Some trade policies could affect the process of competition. Today within the international economy
trade policy has common characteristics with competition policy in such instances as non border trade
barriers. Although using competition policy as an actual trade policy mechanism in order to increase
market access can raise problems. Tharakan and Lloyd point out the fact that using competition policy
directly for market access is not a desirable action to take.
Competition is implied from the freedom of economic order and the freedom to compete. Fortman
claims that the exercise of private economic power is controlled by the opportunities enjoyed by other
economic subjects to make use of this freedom of enterprise (Fortman, 1966: 2). Therefore when
competition is restricted free enterprise activity is then restricted.

Essay on Hoosiers
Hoosiers
As driving into Hickory, Indiana, a tiny town, I see that every house has a basketball hoop on the side
of their barn. The little town consists of one main street. It has the local supermarket, barbershop,
hardware store and some other small stores. While driving on the main street, I noticed that everyone
notices a stranger coming into town. That is how small Hickory is. Driving into the high school
parking lot I see that the girls dominate the young men by far. Looking around I also see that everyone
is talking about the basketball game that night.
When hearing that Norman Dale was going to coach a high school basketball team, I figured it was

Then Billy interrupted and said that the only way he would play is if Coach Dale stayed. The
townspeople agreed to keep Coach Dale and now have Billy playing. The next half of their season
they won every game and everyone was happy with what Coach Dale had provided.
The love for the game and the passion for the game are what the young men have. The look in their
eyes and the emotion that was shown, tells the fans and coaches that these young men are for real
when it comes to playing. When someone has love and passion for something will let you pursue what
you need to get done. The young men seem to have this and they want to pursue their journey to a
championship.
It wasn t just the coaching that got the Hoosiers through the season and now into the playoffs. It was
the young men on the team that believed in themselves through Coach Dale. Coach Dale loved every
one of his players and insisted on them playing the way they could play. He saw the passion in their
eyes and had total confidence in their abilities. There was also the big difference of having Billy on
the team. In the beginning of the season there wasn t a leader on the team. With Billy on the team now,
there was someone to go to and get the job done. He carried the team and provided what needed to be
done on behalf of the team.
Leadership is taking charge of a task that needs to be accomplished or

My Experience In School
There are about 180 days of school in a year and this was the last one of my 7th grade year. I had just
finished my 6th hour exam and I was instructed to help clean some of the basses. Once that was done
it was almost time to leave. As time winded down, I stood anxiously at the door waiting for the bell to
ring. When it rang, we all ran out of the school. Summer vacation had started. When I got home, I
finished packing up my clothes because the next day, my dad and I were going to Colorado.
When I woke up the next day, my dad and I got in the car and drove to Chicago. It took around 2
hours to drive to the airport, but after we arrived there, we checked our bags and went through
security. We then walked around the concourse for a while, got some food to eat and then sat down in
the waiting area located at our gate. After waiting for what seemed like 10 hours, our plane finally
arrived and we got on. The flight lasted around 3 hours, and when we finally touched down, we waited
for the plane to arrive at the gate.
Once we got there, we went to our hotel, walked around Denver and then went to a Colorado Rockies
baseball game. After this, we went back to our hotel and slept. We woke up the next day and drove to
Colorado Springs. The reason why we were going here was to go whitewater rafting. I had never done
this before and like most people, I was scared. When we got there, we had to sign in because we made
reservations and also we had to sign a waver. The fact that they made

How Britons Take The Bus
How Britons take the bus
Napier Matriculation Number: 40182705
Introduction
This ethnographic research proposal deals with how British people have a particular way to take the
bus. I will focus on buses in Edinburgh and I will explore how those rules are not easy to determine.
They can be thus qualified as unwritten. I will eventually explore the fact that taking the buses can
even been seen as a mix of all British rules and can even help to define Britishness.
1.1 Theoretical Framework
At first, one can wonder how different taking the bus is in the UK compared to other countries. It can
be seen as a normalised process which is everywhere the same. However some things are different.
Firstly queuing which has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I had to take the bus for two hours per day to go my high school and I saw the bus as a way to make a
break between the school and my homework.
2. Main Aims and Research Questions
This research proposal aims to analyse and understand the British behaviours in public places and to
characterise what is Britishness . The data is taken in buses round Edinburgh and at bus stops in the
Scottish capital. How can we qualify the British behaviours in public places?
How can Britishness can be seen and analysed in everyday life?
In what ways transports can be seen as a mean which condense all the unwritten rules existing in
Great Britain?
3. Why is this interesting
I find this topic really fascinating as this leads to condense all British rules about politeness, queuing,
and general behaviour. Being arrived in September in Edinburgh, I have had some difficulties to fully
adjust to the British bus system. Having taken nearly only the bus in Edinburgh as I chose to not bring
my car here in Scotland, I feel my insider knowledge will be real advantage to interpret data. I m now
of course fully acquainted with the bus system and I ve even seen myself helping people and giving
directions many times, even to local people! I found this subject particularly interesting as it can seem
as a very simple topic. Taking the bus is something we do every day and even most of the time several
times a day, this is especially true for students.

The Fountainhead and Dead Poets Society
Qualifications of a Proud Man Pride, then, seems to be a sort of crown of the virtues; for it makes
them greater, and it is not found without them. Therefore it is hard to be truly proud; for it is
impossible without nobility and goodness of character (ARISTOTLE) writes Aristotle in chapter 3 of
his Nichomachean Ethics. In this excerpt, Aristotle describes the pride and characteristics of a proud
man or great souled man. Considering the characters of Howard Roark and John Keating, the two
seem to be exemplary examples of Aristotle s proud man. Although different in many ways, these two
men qualify greatly for the role of a proud man because of their similar basic beliefs of not aiming at
things commonly held in honour, to ask for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Keating on the other hand asked one of his students to read an excerpt to the class in order to
express his feelings on life. The excerpt read, To put to route all that was not life; and not, when I had
come to die, discover I had not lived. Keating stressed to his students the importance of living your
life to the fullest. He taught them that if they aren t doing what they love to do then life wasn t worth
living. Neil Perry, a student of Mr. Keating, took this lesson to heart and took his own life when his
father forbid him from doing what he loved. He felt that his life should not be lived if he could not
pursue his love for acting. Concluding, by doing what he loved, Mr. Keating taught the boys to do
what they love in their life and to seize the day. Howard Roark risked his own life because he couldn t
live if his principles were going to be compromised. Overall, Roark and Keating are extraordinary
characters of a proud man in the way that they live their life to the fullest potential. To conclude, pride
is concerned with honour on the grand scale, as has been said by Aristotle. Howard Roark and John
Keating qualify as examples to be Aristotle s proud man or great souled man because of their
undeniably similar characteristics. The two men excel in which other people mainly do not. They are
men of few deeds but great and notable ones. Roark and Keating have the generous

Informative Essay About Canoeing
Canoeing is fun! It s fun on your own, and it s fun with one or two friends or family members. Most
standard canoes, though, at fourteen to eighteen feet in length, cannot comfortably accommodate more
than three passengers. A beginner s initial experience with canoeing should be on a calm pond or lake,
or a calm stretch of river. If it s especially windy, or the lake is crowded with powerboat users and
jetskiers, the experience may not be as much fun and the beginning canoeist may become frustrated.
In addition, a beginner shouldn t try canoeing the first time on his or her own. While piloting a canoe
on one s own can easily be accomplished once one has some paddling experience, it s best to gain that
experience with another person, hopefully someone who s paddled a canoe before. ... Show more

quarter twist so that it s perpendicular to the water s surface, and give a little push to the outside if you

portside when you do this. When starting from a stop, the turning of the canoe will be more
exaggerated, as will be the return swing from the J, but once the canoe s underway and moving well,
the swings from port to starboard and back will become less noticeable and the canoe will be moving
more smoothly. Some canoeists, rather than giving that little push at the end of the J stroke, will just
hold the paddle in the water with the blade turned, giving a rudder effect to the end of the stroke. This
is useful, especially on long trips when you want to conserve your strength (code for you re tired ).
The drawback is that by the time the canoe straightens out, it s started to slow down. The

Comparing The Rate Of Reaction Between Calcium Carbonate...
Investigate the rate of reaction between Calcium Carbonate and Hydrochloric Acid at different
concentrations
Aim:
To Investigate the rate of reaction between Calcium Carbonate and
Hydrochloric Acid at different concentrations.
Background Knowledge:
I know from my knowledge of science, that by adding together a carbonate and an acid, that a salt,
water and Carbon Dioxide are produced. Therefore in order to measure the rate of reaction, one of
these products needs to be measured, and the rate at which it is produced can be used to define the rate
of the reaction. The methods that can be used are either to measure the mass of the solution at
intervals. Or to measure the produce of gas (Carbon Dioxide).
Prediction:
Using the known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Increasing the molarity of the acid, will result in more gas being produced simply because there is a
higher concentration of acid, thus more acid molecules within the solution. This will mean that the
acid molecules with react with the calcium carbonate more often than a lower molarity solution. With
more collisions, the chance of a reaction occurring also increases, and so with more reactions, more
gas will be produced. However, it is only the chance of reacting that is increased, and therefore it is
not definite that a reaction will take place, which is likely to be responsible for any anomalous results.
I need a minimum of six values. These will give a distinguishable spread whilst remaining within a

Primate Observation
Within this essay, we will study more in depth the behavioral as well as physical traits of two primates
at a zoo from their interaction with their peers to their place in the group. This observation would
enable us to further understand the possible existing correlation between humans and primates. First, I
studied a female chimpanzee with her baby, and then, a dominant male gorilla, in San Francisco Zoo
at about noon, on May 23, 2015, for an hour each. Even though they share some similarities such as
having a large brain, living for a long time, and being bored in their enclosure, they are still different;
when gorillas are the largest, chimpanzees are the smartest. In fact, chimps use tools to catch food,

Thus, I was able to observe some similarities among these species. The way the female chimp used
tools, and her fingers to grab food, how she used to be on her feet, freeing her hands, groom her child,
educate her offspring, sleep with him while snuggling, use a lot of face emotions to convey a message
to an individual; she smiled at her baby, laughed when playing, and tickling him, remind me of
human. She also has a flat pink face, hands palm, and feet sole as humans do. Furthermore, the gorilla
was also really human when he protected his eyes from the intense sunrays, following the movement
of the sun, and sat in the shade, mated with a female, scratched his head, and bottom, and put his
finger in his nose. I think that these humans pattern appeared for similar reasons as in the Primates.
For instance, when the gorilla scratches his bottom, it is because the area is itchy, and he wants to
remove what is indisposing him. In addition, the mother chimp educates her kid to transmit knowledge
throughout generation, which is the same for humans, who go to school. According to my observation,
even though Chimpanzee, and Gorilla are similar, they differ in many other ways when we go deeper
in physical, and behavioral traits. However, both species also share the majority part of their DNA
with Humans. Based on some reliable researches, some scientists realized that humans did not come
from apes but instead shared common ancestors. As a matter of fact, humans and Primates are
different, but share most of their genome, explaining why we found some similar patterns of behavior
among humans, and

Understanding The Signs Of The Times
UNDERSTANDING THE SIGNS OF THE TIMES
The subject of the Second Coming of Christ (the End of the World) has been one that has attracted a
great deal of interest throughout the years, but it is also one that has been greatly debated since its
inception. This subject has almost become an obsession for many. There seems to be something
intriguing about trying to predict the future.
Many have used their views on this subject to guide their direction and gage their time in life; and in
some cases, in a non productive way. This is believed to have been the reason for the idleness that
existed among the Thessalonians that the Apostle Paul addressed in his second letter to them. (People

The question asked about this passage of Scripture (Matthew 24 through 25) is an either or question. It
asks: Does the Scripture picture the second coming of our Lord Jesus as [1] a series of events
(multiple comings, judgments, resurrections, the great tribulation, the rise and fall of the great
Antichrist, the Battle of Armageddon, and the millennium) covering a period of seven plus 1,000
years, or [2] does Scripture picture the second coming of our Lord Jesus as a single multi faceted
event His coming in glory for judgment? ( The Second Coming The Gospels
http://www.immanuelmankato.org/resources/bible studies/end times/second coming gospels) The
answer to this question is extremely important because it will shape your beliefs about the events
going on in your surroundings and how you respond to them.
Many scholars believe that the key to understanding this passage of Scripture (Matt. 24 25) is in
recognizing that this is Jesus response to two questions His disciples asked. But before we look at
those questions, let us get some background information that will help us understand what prompted
the questions. The Chapter opened with Jesus and His disciples

Defects Of Nuclear Weapons
Isolde Fang Current issue Benefits and defects of nuclear weapons The use of nuclear weapons is a
heated topic today, catching more attention from both the public and governments than before. While
many countries favor nuclear weapons for safety and international reasons, nuclear weapons do have
defects in moral, environmental, and economic aspects. For counties that favor nuclear weapons, they
favor them because of the benefits brought by them in guaranteeing national safety and boosting
international status. Nuclear weapons can protect a country physically, like a physical protection of
national territory, just as Sico van der Meer writes in his article States Motivations to Acquire or Forgo
Nuclear Weapons that nuclear weapons are considered to be the ultimate tool for survival. (2016) This

survival. Due to their power, they can protect a country s territory from external aggression by
deterring other countries. Japan is a good example of this kind of country. There are many possible

Some assert that protecting Japan itself by developing nuclear weapons is a good way (Corr, 2017).

Environmental Justice and Toxic Racism
Environmental Justice and Toxic Racism
Encouraged by diverse foundations from across the globe, The Environmental Justice movement has
become one of the most important topics in the media. Europeans have used Marxist philosophy on
class laddering, while non Western countries required its encouragement in the criticism of
colonialism. In the United States, The Civil Rights Movement was its forerunner. The notion of
Environmental Justice , nevertheless, has its genesis in the resistance of black culture and lower

One of the first influences on the deliberation on Environmental Justice was The Civil Rights
Movement in the United States of America. Leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr. fought hard to ensure
that social transformation and power be established for African Americans, especially those in the
southern states as well as those in the northern inner city parts. Activists like King altered the
philosophy on Environmental Justice arguing that there was a lopsided effect that proved that
environmental hazards were not accidental. What environmentalists advocated instead was that
environmental dangers resulted from racial segregation that placed power plants, nuclear plants, and
other potential ecological hazards in areas with a high concentration of minority and low income
groups. Several activists defined this as environmental racism. The earliest reference to environmental
racism originated in Warren County, North Carolina, in 1982. A mainly African American
neighborhood rallied to protest the construction of a noxious waste landfill. The community was well
backed with the support of the United Church of Christ. The remonstration resulted in well over five
hundred arrests for civil disobedience. Its impact caused other explorations in southern communities

The Code Of The Street Essay
In this paper, I plan to first describe the Code of the Street which is a term coined and a book written
by Elijah Anderson. I would also summarize and describe two journal articles that test Anderson s idea
of the Code of the Street for a more definite explanation. I will tell how the two articles that I have
chosen relates to some of the concepts that Anderson talked about in the book. I will then define
general strain theory and social learning or differential association theory. Lastly, I will explain how
general strain theory and social learning theory or differential association theory explain some of the
behaviors that were seen by the individuals in the book published by Anderson. I will point out some
of the individual s behavior and demonstrate whether it may lead to crime or whether the behavior was
learned in any way.
What does Elijah Anderson mean by the Code of the Street . ... the street culture has evolved a code of
the street, which amounts to a set of informal rules governing interpersonal public behavior,
particularly violence. The rules prescribe both proper comportment and the proper way to respond if
challenged. They regulate the use of violence and so supply a rationale allowing those who are
inclined to aggression to precipitate violent encounters in an approved way ( Anderson, 1999 p. 33)
According to Anderson, the Code of the Street is a set of rules bound to those who are found to be at

potatoes to mud before they got out of the ground and rotted them quicker. Potatoes were the main
food in Ireland especially for the poor. Without potatoes many died while others immigrated. The
potato famine caused a lot of death, immigration, and also got help from surrounding areas. Many
people immigrated , some just sooner than others. Between 1845 and 1870 there were at least three
million Irish immigrants (Famine,Irish. The Oxford Company). This shows how devastating and
terrible the famine was to drive three million people out of their own country. Landlords would first
make phony promises of money, food and clothing, then pack

Judgement In The Poisonwood Bible
Never judge a book by its cover. People judge others based solely on differences and stereotypes
created by others and false rumors. In the novel The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver this is
seen many times throughout the book. Nathan, the father in the novel believes that women are held to
a certain standard and shows that in theses examples. First, when Nathan yells, Nakedness, and
darkness of the soul! For we shall destroy this place where the loud clamor of the sinners in waxen
great before the face of the Lord. (7). This shows Nathan judging the women of the Kilanga Village
based on the bible because he believes they are sinning because the bible says so. Proving that he
doesn t give them a chance to explain so they are yelled at by Nathan that they are sinning. Another
example is when Nathan expresses his feelings on sending his ... Show more content on

The first example is when Orleanna takes Leah out with her when all of the sudden, A row of men on
a bench looked up from their bowls of new beer and stared at us with the same clouded eyes, all
motioning for me to move my child: stupid ghost! non person!... (23). This shows judgement because
the men on the bench are judging Orleanna and Leah based on the color of there skin calling them
stupid ghost! . Another example is when Leah is teaching to children and she begins to think the
students are not paying much attention and disrespecting her. This is when Anatole, the other teacher
says, ... These boys are not accustomed to obeying their own grandmothers. If long division is so
important to a young man s success in the world, how could a pretty girl know about it?... (74). This
shows that a lot of the young boys in the Congo do not respect the women in there lives that much and
to have a woman try and teach the boys is a challenge because there judgement is that she is not smart

Taking a Look at Harriet Tubman
Eagle success biography paper
Harriet Tubman Harriet not only had dream but she was determined to stand up for what she had
believed. Harriet was a brave young girl who had escaped slavery at a young age and wanted to help
others get out of that life just as she did, and that s what I am going to be telling you today.
At first, In my research I couldn t find any evidence on which exact day harriet was born but i could
find that she was born around 1820 s near Dorchester County on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, near
the town of Cambridge (graceproducts.com). Harriet was given the name Araminta Ross later that
year she had taken on her mother s name of Harriet. When she had turned six she had been taken ten
miles to live with James Cook. His wife who was a weaver was to teach her the trade of weaving.
Cook had her work on the trapline to help catch wild animals. He had to work the lines while she was
ill with the measles, and catching cold from wading in the water in the condition, she grew very sick. I
had reasoned this out in my mind; there was one of two things I had a right to, liberty, or death; if I
could not have one, I would have the other; for no man should take me alive; I should fight for my
liberty as long as my strength lasted, and when the time came for me to go, the Lord would let them
take me. Harriet Tubman (graceproducts.com).
Another, In her teen years harriet had ran away with her brother came back. she had ran away but this

The Education System Of Ethiopia
Pastoralist Education in Ethiopia Currently:
For several years, donors have been implementing Alternative Basic Education Center s in Ethiopia as
a way to supplement the formal primary education system in the country. Currently the country faces a
number of challenges in regards to their formal primary school system including lack of infrastructure,
lack of teachers and economical constraints. Many regions in Ethiopia are hard to reach and the
provision of formal education is lacking. To supplement this lack of formal primary schools, donors,
together with governments have implemented Alternative Basic Education Center s. These centers are
set up differently than formal school as it covers the curriculum of lower primary school, which is
traditionally 4 years, and fits it all into 3 years. Upon completion of these 3 years, it is expected that
students will be prepared to move into upper primary school (grades 5 8). This set up alleviates the
problem of a lack of primary schools, and by completing the curriculum in 3 years, it allows those
children who started late to catch up. (CARE Interview)
Save the Children Denmark s Alternative Basic Education Project was implemented in the Amhara
Region of Ethiopia. While this is not a pastoralist region, it provided Save the Children and the
Ethiopian government many insights to non formal education models and many organizations began
implementing Alternative Basic Education Center s in the Afar and Somali regions following this

refers to applicants that need to make modifications in a device that has been already approved to be
in the market. Whereas abbreviated 510 (k) refers to the updating of data information in a legally
marketed device. Furthermore, there s a fee for the 510(k) that initiated in 2002. The fee can be reduce
by 50% if the applicant, parent firm, and affiliates combined gross sales or receipts for the current year

devices that are high risk or Class III. It can also be used for a pioneer device that has not been
introduced in the market at all. The purpose of PMA is to demonstrate to the FDA that there is
scientific proof that a device is effective and save on its own. Thus, the PMA is meant to demonstrate

  • 2. Exile In Brave New World Exile is a subject very few touch upon. Exile is never really spoken about because once you are alienated by those you once considered friends or family, a gaping hole opens and no one really knows how to explain it other than just that; a hole that can only be filled with the one place on earth you feel safe; home. When exiled, a rift opens between the individual that was cast out and their home, and family and friends. This so called rift that opens between a person and their home is evident in Brave New World with John s life. John is a white man who is interested in the tribal customs of the Indians, in this novel called savages , which are very different and looked down upon by the citizens of the World State society. John is excluded from the rituals and tribal customs of the Malpais people. He is seen as an outcast also because his mother is viewed as very immoral. On the Savage Reservation John tells Bernard Marx that he feels neither welcome nor wanted, he says he is alone, always alone. (pg 91) Although John is exiled, the experience of living on the Reservation is enlightening because he is able to step back and see how others treat one another. This helps him to develop as a character because he comes from a life full of hardships and troubling times so he understands what those who are treated poorly feel. John s attitude toward his mother is extremely protective, which builds their relationship later in the novel. John s exile came at an early age when he was born. John was born naturally rather than being hatched at the D.H.C. Natural birth is no longer accepted in the New World so when John is born he is shipped off to live on the Savage Reservation. Growing up on the Savage Reservation shows John just how different he is from both the citizens of the World State and the Malpais people. His morals and beliefs are far from the immoral values that those of the New World have, and his skin color coupled with how his mother is viewed sets him apart from the ... Ultimate Reality in religion is viewed differently when comparing Eastern to Western beliefs, but there are some similarities: both want to achieve something in the afterlife. In Western religions such as Catholicism and Islam, the belief of Ultimate Reality is that there is a God and he is transcendent and monotheistic.. In addition, there is also the belief of an evil existence or commonly known as the devil . In the extract from the Catholic Bible, it states No one has seen God and that in him was life, and the life was the light of the men, which indicates their God is powerful enough and on another level compared to themselves ... • 4. Departures Storm Jameson In Departures, Storm Jameson depicts her isolation as a child and its continuation into adulthood. Behind the cold barriers that Jameson builds around herself in both her child and adult life, an unending cycle of fear continues within her. This cycle is reflected in the narrative structure of the anecdote. Jameson s authorial choices to employ Labov s elements in a disjointed fashion and have a brief complicating action reinforce her social detachment both as a child and an adult. Along with the disjointed narrative elements, an omitted coda and resolution convey that the detachment continues throughout her life in a cycle of fear and isolation. With the intent of creating a structural detachment that reflects her own emotional detachment, Jameson, as author, puts together an orientation and complicating action that don t appear to go together. On a September train ride, distant memories and thoughts blur past the grown Jameson s eyes, such as the journeys made feverish by unmanageable longings and ambitions, night journeys in wartime (15) and continue to make their way to the forefront of her mind with a picture of the darkened corridor crammed with young men in clumsy khaki, smoking, falling asleep, [and] journeys with a heavy baby in one arm (Jameson 15). Before Jameson as adult can make her way back to her memory as a child, she must travel through many other memories of departures and journeys. This roundabout way in which Jameson brings her reader into her memories structurally reflects the detached feelings she has for herself as a child. It suggests a physiological separation between Jameson and herself because she cannot easily think about her past. These detached feelings are enforced textually when she uses the third person to refer to herself as the child (15) and to those presumably close to her like her mother, whom she calls the captain s wife (16). By creating this structural and textual detachment, Jameson emphasizes her emotional isolation from herself as a child. Before speaking about herself as a child, she must search through her memories like a knot of adders uncoiling themselves, (15) which suggests that it is painful for Jameson to reach back to her childhood ... I am indeed referring to the intense physicality that all three of these sports strongly value. As a devoted hockey fan, I am a witness to a great part of the physicality that takes place. Therefore, I am well aware and understand that physicality is crucial in order to compete in most sports, but we have to draw the line somewhere. When there is primary intent to injure and physically hurt someone this is considered violence . Violence is becoming increasingly prevalent in sports, and a majority of society is passive to the negative effects it is imposing on society. Certain sports fanatics may want to argue that intense physicality and violence is crucial for entertainment, as it brings in viewers. They may also state that athletes themselves would not prefer to have that component eliminated as well. In terms of professional hockey, a poll conducted by the National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA) revealed that a staggering 98 percent of hockey players did not want the fighting component to be eliminated in hockey, thus confirming that most athletes may want the physical nature to remain the same. However, extended research revealed that approximately 68 percent of Canadian hockey fans disagreed with the players and wanted fighting in professional hockey to be eliminated. • 7. Diffusion And Diffusion Of Diffusion Cultural Diffusion Diffusion occurs when people, their ideas and things move from one location to another location. There are several types of diffusion that can occur. According to The Human Mosaic there are five types of diffusion that can occur. The first type of diffusion that occurs is called relocation diffusion. Relocation diffusion occurs when an individual or individuals migrate and bring along certain traits and ideas with them to the new location. Examples of traits that some people bring with them are their languages, certain mannerisms, religions, their dress and even their diet. One example of a trait that is highly diffused is Christianity. We can see from the map on page 28 and 29 that Christianity is a religion that is highly diffused throughout many countries. From the map it shows that Christianity is found in locations such as Australia, Brazil, USA and Russia (Smith 28,29). Another type of diffusion is expansion diffusion. During expansion diffusion, practices and ideas are spread over a population from one area to the next having a snowball effect. Expansion diffusion has a total of three different subtypes. The first subtype of expansion diffusion is hierarchical diffusion. With Hierarchical diffusion only select populations are affected by traits and ideas being diffused. Hierarchical diffusion is thought to affect individuals who are of higher importance or from one urban area to another urban area, skipping the rural places in between. An ... • 10. Propensity-Score Matching (Psm). The Propensity Score... Propensity Score Matching (PSM) The propensity score matching model is a method used to evaluate the average effect of a programme on participants outcome, conditional on the pre participation characteristics of such participants (Bryson, Dorsett, Purdon, 2002). The PSM technique has been applied widely in a variety of fields in the program evaluation (Heinrich et al., 2010).The model is appropriate for addressing the problem of selection bias (Wooldridge, 2002) in determining the difference between the participant s outcome with (in this case adoption of weather index insurance) and without (non adoption of the weather index insurance) programme (Pufahl Weiss, 2008). Pufahl Weiss also note that participants and non participants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instrumental variables and design approach, though suitable raises difficulties in finding a suitable instrument because, in identifying the treatment effect, one needs at least one regressor which determines participation, but is not itself determined by the factors which affect outcomes (Blundell Costa Dias, 2000; J. J. Heckman, 1995). The regression discontinuity method on the other hand needs a large number of farmers next to the discontinuity to draw meaningful decision. However, this is difficult because the further one moves from the discontinuity line the more the variable characteristics vary (Winters et al., 2010). PSM assumes that farmers who receive treatment and those who do not, differ not only in treatment, but also in characteristics that affect participation and the outcome (Heinrich et al., 2010). It thus seeks untreated (in our case non adopters of weather index) farmers who have the same characteristics of the treated (adopters of weather index) farmers and matching them using propensity scores and thus creating a quasi experiment (Winters et al., 2010). The propensity score was therefore used to estimate the probability of receiving treatment (adoption of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Meredith Monk Minimalism David Carrillo TA: Joshua Bauder Meredith Monk, Early Morning Melody Early Morning Melody by Meredith Monk is a song with many minimalistic aspects. Repetition and isolation of the human voice are two examples of it. (26 words) The short song Early Morning Melody by Meredith Monk has a beautiful melody that repeats four times with the third time having one different note. The repetition of this melody ironically does not feel redundant, as the listener is likely to have mental pictures on how they interpret the song. For example, thinking of how someone would really sing this for an early morning activity, like taking a shower or cooking. Another image that may come to the listener s mind could be a much sadder scene: perhaps a song for a funeral, or how the use of repetition could simbolize a lack of direction. (105 words) ... While some believe the correct use of minimalism has some of the most profound and powerful ways of communicating a message or a mental image, others find it too abstract, simplistic or even boring. The short piece Early Morning Melody by the American composer, Meredith Monk, utilizes minimalistic tools to evoke many emotions and reactions from the listeners. The use of a solo voice and repetition of a simple, yet touching melody are two examples of how the minimalism is displayed. The melody is repeated a total of four times and only the third has a small difference, so minuscule that it is literally just one note that is different. It should also be noted that the unique note could even be in the same harmonic progression of the passage. This is clearly done on purpose and, as explained earlier, leads to as many interpretations as the amount of people listening to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Analysis Of Hamlet And Ophelia In Hamlet 1.) Hamlet and Ophelia are by far the most complex characters in the play, and I believe the reason for their demise their fathers. Claudius, Polonius, and Hamlet senior are all the blame for Hamlet and Ophelia s mental breakdown. This is because he came back as a ghost and test are soft hearted hero to murder his uncle, Hamlet was grieving and peace up until the point is ghost daddy arrived and told him the truth about his untimely death. Its suggested by Amanda Mabillard, Hamlet was more or less insane from the time at which the ghost appeared to him , and i totally agree. Claudius is to blame for more obvious reasons, I guess you can start the list with the fact that he killed Hamlet s dad, he stole the kingdom from him, he took his ... I also feel like he didn t teach Hamlet how to control his emotions, this led to Hamlet being a complete mess when Gertrude was forced to break up with him. 2.) I feel like religion drives a lot of the characters action and the plot itself. The major in your face example is the whole concept of King Hamlet s Ghost. Is it a tortured spirit in limbo, or a demon from hell causing mischief? This idea is brought up by Hamlet when he first encounters the ghost in Act II Scene IV Lines 43 47, Angels and ministers of grace, defend us! Be thou a spirit of health or goblin damned, Bring with thee airs from heaven or blasts from hell, Be thy intents wicked or charitable... . Hamlet sates he doesn t quite know if it s a good or bad spirit, but is willing to talk to it either way. On the lines of religion and spirits/ghosts, this is the reason Hamlet does not kill Claudius when he has the perfect opportunity. Due to the fact he was praying, Hamlet decided not to kill him because of the chance he may go to heaven. Another example would be how Hamlet feels about his life. In his soliloquy in Act To be, or not to be. he ponders the idea of death and weighs his options, live a dreary life, or have a sinful death. I mean like what if Hamlet was an atheist? The entire play wouldn t have happened. The ghost would have come, Hamlet would have been like cool dude , and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Realism In The Picture Of Dorian Gray Wilde combines both the ornamental and the natural elements of the definition of aestheticism here by describing both the Persian saddle bags and honey coloured blossoms. The set description is so enamoring that one could almost miss Lord Henry Wotton, instead engaging their imagination in the appreciation of the objects around him. The descriptions are so elegantly articulated by Wilde that they can only be imagined through their beauty alone; one would not imagine plain tables and chairs while reading this, and the descriptions are certainly not modest as George Eliot describes in her definition of realism. This also eliminates any need for a collective spectacle; the objects simply are what they are. The entertaining language that Wilde uses in his descriptions work in satisfying his argument for aestheticism. Wilde also spends a lot of his time making the characters in The Picture of Dorian Gray aesthetic focused. For Wilde, the only character who gives in to the idea of realism is Basil Hallward by putting far too much of himself into his own painting. Basil is the physical characterization of Wilde s criticism of artists in his preface; he does not conceal the artist when creating Dorian s portrait. Basil even claims that the real Dorian is the painting and not the living Dorian standing before him, saying I shall stay with the real Dorian when prompted to attend the theatre with Dorian and Henry Wotton (Wilde 28). Monopoly is a great enemy to good management which can never be universally established but in consequence of that free and universal competition which forces every body to have recourse to it for the sake of self defense (Smith, 1776: 63). Adam Smith found that monopolies were a negative aspect for an economy therefore supporting competition among firms in order to protect one s firm. Privilege of an incorporated trade restrains the competition in the town where it is established to those who are free of the trade (Smith, 1776: 135). Some trade policies could affect the process of competition. Today within the international economy trade policy has common characteristics with competition policy in such instances as non border trade barriers. Although using competition policy as an actual trade policy mechanism in order to increase market access can raise problems. Tharakan and Lloyd point out the fact that using competition policy directly for market access is not a desirable action to take. The look in their eyes and the emotion that was shown, tells the fans and coaches that these young men are for real when it comes to playing. When someone has love and passion for something will let you pursue what you need to get done. The young men seem to have this and they want to pursue their journey to a championship. It wasn t just the coaching that got the Hoosiers through the season and now into the playoffs. It was the young men on the team that believed in themselves through Coach Dale. Coach Dale loved every one of his players and insisted on them playing the way they could play. He saw the passion in their eyes and had total confidence in their abilities. There was also the big difference of having Billy on the team. In the beginning of the season there wasn t a leader on the team. • 25. My Experience In School There are about 180 days of school in a year and this was the last one of my 7th grade year. I had just finished my 6th hour exam and I was instructed to help clean some of the basses. Once that was done it was almost time to leave. As time winded down, I stood anxiously at the door waiting for the bell to ring. When it rang, we all ran out of the school. Summer vacation had started. When I got home, I finished packing up my clothes because the next day, my dad and I were going to Colorado. When I woke up the next day, my dad and I got in the car and drove to Chicago. It took around 2 hours to drive to the airport, but after we arrived there, we checked our bags and went through security. We then walked around the concourse for a while, got some food to eat and then sat down in the waiting area located at our gate. After waiting for what seemed like 10 hours, our plane finally arrived and we got on. The flight lasted around 3 hours, and when we finally touched down, we waited for the plane to arrive at the gate. Once we got there, we went to our hotel, walked around Denver and then went to a Colorado Rockies baseball game. After this, we went back to our hotel and slept. We woke up the next day and drove to Colorado Springs. The reason why we were going here was to go whitewater rafting. I had never done this before and like most people, I was scared. • 26. How Britons Take The Bus How Britons take the bus Napier Matriculation Number: 40182705 Introduction This ethnographic research proposal deals with how British people have a particular way to take the bus. I will focus on buses in Edinburgh and I will explore how those rules are not easy to determine. They can be thus qualified as unwritten. I will eventually explore the fact that taking the buses can even been seen as a mix of all British rules and can even help to define Britishness. 1.1 Theoretical Framework At first, one can wonder how different taking the bus is in the UK compared to other countries. It can be seen as a normalised process which is everywhere the same. However some things are different. Firstly queuing which has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I had to take the bus for two hours per day to go my high school and I saw the bus as a way to make a break between the school and my homework. 2. Main Aims and Research Questions This research proposal aims to analyse and understand the British behaviours in public places and to characterise what is Britishness . The data is taken in buses round Edinburgh and at bus stops in the Scottish capital. How can we qualify the British behaviours in public places? How can Britishness can be seen and analysed in everyday life? In what ways transports can be seen as a mean which condense all the unwritten rules existing in Great Britain? 3. Why is this interesting I find this topic really fascinating as this leads to condense all British rules about politeness, queuing, and general behaviour. Being arrived in September in Edinburgh, I have had some difficulties to fully adjust to the British bus system. Having taken nearly only the bus in Edinburgh as I chose to not bring my car here in Scotland, I feel my insider knowledge will be real advantage to interpret data. I m now of course fully acquainted with the bus system and I ve even seen myself helping people and giving directions many times, even to local people! I found this subject particularly interesting as it can seem as a very simple topic. Taking the bus is something we do every day and even most of the time several times a day, this is especially true for students.

Therefore it is hard to be truly proud; for it is impossible without nobility and goodness of character (ARISTOTLE) writes Aristotle in chapter 3 of his Nichomachean Ethics. In this excerpt, Aristotle describes the pride and characteristics of a proud man or great souled man. Considering the characters of Howard Roark and John Keating, the two seem to be exemplary examples of Aristotle s proud man. Although different in many ways, these two men qualify greatly for the role of a proud man because of their similar basic beliefs of not aiming at things commonly held in honour, to ask for ... The excerpt read, To put to route all that was not life; and not, when I had come to die, discover I had not lived. Keating stressed to his students the importance of living your life to the fullest. He taught them that if they aren t doing what they love to do then life wasn t worth living. Neil Perry, a student of Mr. Keating, took this lesson to heart and took his own life when his father forbid him from doing what he loved. He felt that his life should not be lived if he could not pursue his love for acting. Concluding, by doing what he loved, Mr. Keating taught the boys to do what they love in their life and to seize the day. Howard Roark risked his own life because he couldn t live if his principles were going to be compromised. Overall, Roark and Keating are extraordinary characters of a proud man in the way that they live their life to the fullest potential. To conclude, pride is concerned with honour on the grand scale, as has been said by Aristotle. Howard Roark and John Keating qualify as examples to be Aristotle s proud man or great souled man because of their undeniably similar characteristics. • 29. Informative Essay About Canoeing Canoeing is fun! It s fun on your own, and it s fun with one or two friends or family members. Most standard canoes, though, at fourteen to eighteen feet in length, cannot comfortably accommodate more than three passengers. A beginner s initial experience with canoeing should be on a calm pond or lake, or a calm stretch of river. If it s especially windy, or the lake is crowded with powerboat users and jetskiers, the experience may not be as much fun and the beginning canoeist may become frustrated. In addition, a beginner shouldn t try canoeing the first time on his or her own. While piloting a canoe on one s own can easily be accomplished once one has some paddling experience, it s best to gain that experience with another person, hopefully someone who s paddled a canoe before. ... When starting from a stop, the turning of the canoe will be more exaggerated, as will be the return swing from the J, but once the canoe s underway and moving well, the swings from port to starboard and back will become less noticeable and the canoe will be moving more smoothly. Some canoeists, rather than giving that little push at the end of the J stroke, will just hold the paddle in the water with the blade turned, giving a rudder effect to the end of the stroke. Investigate the rate of reaction between Calcium Carbonate and Hydrochloric Acid at different concentrations Aim: To Investigate the rate of reaction between Calcium Carbonate and Hydrochloric Acid at different concentrations. Background Knowledge: I know from my knowledge of science, that by adding together a carbonate and an acid, that a salt, water and Carbon Dioxide are produced. Therefore in order to measure the rate of reaction, one of these products needs to be measured, and the rate at which it is produced can be used to define the rate of the reaction. The methods that can be used are either to measure the mass of the solution at intervals. Or to measure the produce of gas (Carbon Dioxide). Prediction: Using the known ... With more collisions, the chance of a reaction occurring also increases, and so with more reactions, more gas will be produced. However, it is only the chance of reacting that is increased, and therefore it is not definite that a reaction will take place, which is likely to be responsible for any anomalous results. First, I studied a female chimpanzee with her baby, and then, a dominant male gorilla, in San Francisco Zoo at about noon, on May 23, 2015, for an hour each. She also has a flat pink face, hands palm, and feet sole as humans do. Furthermore, the gorilla was also really human when he protected his eyes from the intense sunrays, following the movement of the sun, and sat in the shade, mated with a female, scratched his head, and bottom, and put his finger in his nose. I think that these humans pattern appeared for similar reasons as in the Primates. For instance, when the gorilla scratches his bottom, it is because the area is itchy, and he wants to remove what is indisposing him. In addition, the mother chimp educates her kid to transmit knowledge throughout generation, which is the same for humans, who go to school. According to my observation, even though Chimpanzee, and Gorilla are similar, they differ in many other ways when we go deeper in physical, and behavioral traits.
