Porn and Censorship
Pornography and Censorship
Should the government be allowed to legitimately prohibit citizens from publishing or viewing
pornography, or would this be an unjustified violation of basic freedoms?
Traditionally, liberals defended the freedom of consenting adults to publish and consume
pornography in private from moral and religious conservatives who wanted pornography banned for
its obscenity, its corrupting impact on consumers and its corrosive effect on traditional family and
religious values. But, in more recent times, the pornography debate has taken on a somewhat new
and surprising shape. Some feminists have found themselves allied with their traditional
conservative foes in calling on the state to regulate or prohibit ... Show more content on

Other sexually explicit representations depict acts of violent coercion: people being bound,
whipped, beaten, tortured, penetrated by objects, mutilated, raped and even killed. Some sexually
explicit material may be degrading, without necessarily being overtly violent. This material depicts
people (most often women) in positions of servility and subordination in their sexual relations with
others, or engaged in sexual acts that many people would regard as humiliating. Some sexually
explicit material involves or depicts children. Some portrays bestiality and necrophilia; and so on.
On the first definition of pornography as sexually explicit material, all such material would count
as pornography, insofar as it is sexually explicit. But this simple definition is not quite right.
Anatomy textbooks for medical students are sexually explicit they depict exposed genitalia, for
example but are rarely, if ever, viewed as pornography. Sexual explicitness may be a necessary
condition for material to count as pornographic, but it does not seem to be sufficient. So something
needs to be added to the simple definition. What else might be required?
Here is a second definition. Pornography is sexually explicit material (verbal or pictorial) that is
primarily designed to produce sexual arousal in viewers. This definition is better: it deals with the
problem of anatomy textbooks and the like. Indeed, this

Within a few short years, Ferrell had helped lead ratings renaissance for SNL, prompting
television audiences to return each week. For the SNL cast, they said Will was the glue that
holds the show together. After Saturday Night Live was over Ferrell actually had a very
successful career in hollywood unlike others alongside him. In 2003 Ferrell found great success
playing buddy in the movie Elf, along with anchorman (2004), Talladega Nights (2006) Blades of
Glory (2007). Ferrell proved that he wasn t scared to try new things by launching the film funny or
die. Ferrell slid seamlessly into the role of voice actor for the animated Megamind, starring as the
titular villain turned superhero. While generally regarded as quiet and unassuming off set, the
intensely private Ferrell hasn t been afraid to put his politics out front.
Today Will Ferrell is still a very good actor and makes lots of guest appearances on TV shows and
still occasionally still hosts SNL. He is important to American culture by making us all laugh one
way or another and also standing up for others and making a differences in the comedy

Analysis Of Helft Mir Ihr Schwestern
Helft mir, ihr Schwestern is song number five from Robert Schumann s song cycle Frauenliebe
und leben. The song cycle was set to the text of a poem cycle of the same name by Adelbert von
Chamisso. Each poem in the cycle provides a glimpse into the story of a woman falling in love
with a man, getting engaged and married to him, getting pregnant and having a child, becoming a
widow and finally sharing her life story with her granddaughter. At the time that Schumann wrote
this song cycle, he was going through a legal battle with his future wife s father over the right to
marry her. This poem cycle contains themes of love, devotion, and longing that Schumann could
personally relate with his feelings for Clara Wieck, who would soon become Clara Schumann. In
this essay, I will demonstrate how Frauenliebe und leben is directly reflective of Robert Schumanns
own life experiences. In so doing, I will be analyzing the ways in which Schumann set the music
in a fashion that emphasized the structure and emotional content of the poetry. In order to better
understand the context of Robert Schuman s setting of Helft mir, ihr Schwestern, I will first
provide a general analysis of the song cycle as a whole. As Schumann set music to the various
poems, he shifted the tonality to closely related keys, such as a fourth or fifth away, or shifting
the relative or parallel major and minor keys. These shifts in tonality help emphasis the
emotional development of the main character of the poems. The song cycle begins with a
relatively slow and reflective song in the key of Bb major, where the main subject of the poem
cycle first describes her feelings of intense, blind love for a man. The next song shifts the tonal
center up a fourth to the key of Eb. In this song, the woman raises the man of her affection up on
a pedestal of high praise, while she demeans herself to a lowly maid. Song three, moves the
tonality to the relative minor of the previous song, C minor. This song is about the woman s
disbelief that the man she adored so highly has fallen in love with her, and Schumann reflects that
disbelief by making the music more erratic in tempo. He also emphasizes the disbelief by repeating
the complete last stanza and then the

So there had been a contact/touching between Nathan and Alice, where Nathan used the chair as
the medium of causing Battery towards Alice. Nathan had whipped Alice s chair when she was

third element of Battery is also fulfilled as there was physical contact occurred in this case. Lastly,
in this case, the tort committed was without the Plaintiff (Alice) s consent. Nathan was liable for
Battery for making Alice falls to the ground until she fractured her arm. Since all the elements of
Battery has been fulfilled in this case of Nathan and Alice, which are the mental state of the

Good Vs Evil Analysis
To be human, means having the ability to articulate emotions and ideas that can lead to
questioning what is good and what is evil. The theme of good and evil is expressed through the
eyes of the man and the boy, who label people as either good guys or bad guys. While the boy has
a more simplistic idea of good and evil, the man has a hard time grasping the difference between
who the good guys and the bad guys are. He wonders as to what makes him any different from
the cannibal blood cults, who like them are just trying to survive. Humans have a distinct need to
try and distinguish between bad and good, even when we can t come up with a way of defining
them. In a world where there is even less of a fine line between who is good and evil, the... Show

He relates his world to the one that we are currently living in, as there is no way to tell the
difference between good and evil. McCarthy s novel is a timely story that, is still relevant in its
distinguishing of good and evil. He never rationalizes the other people in the world besides the man
and the boy, so the reader can decide for themselves whether the man and the boy are good. He
doesn t write these situations as simple black and white situations, that disturbs the reader into
thinking about what they would do in the man s situation. McCarthy understands what humans
would do to make the most out of their situation, and his description of the world and how people

Flashbulb Memory
Jim had a memory from his childhood that he was able to recall, but everything he remembers
about that memory was inaccurate. False memory is known as Flashbulb memory. In the sensory
memory part of your brain is where unattended memory is lost. Short term memory is where
unrehearsed information is lost and long term memoryinformation can be lost over time. A huge
variety of factors may influence how well you remember certain events. These are called memory
biases. Memory biases can also affect how fast you re able to recall something. Certain types of
biases may actually change some of your memories. The following are a few common biases:

Adults mainly remember positive memories rather then negative ones.
There are three systems of memory. The first system of memory, our brains retain each frame in
our sensory memory. Sensory memory briefly maintains as a buffer before passing on to the next
memory system which is short term memory. Sensory memory applies to hearing too. One
information makes it past our sensory buffers, it moves into our short term memory, a second
system for retaining information in our memories for brief periods of time. Short term memory is
the second factory worker in our memory assembly line. One key component of short term memory

Abortion Legal Case
Since the proper to non public privacy includes the abortion call, however the proper isn t
unqualified and should be thought about against vital state interests in regulation.
The abortion laws in result within the majority of the States square measure of comparatively recent
vintage, account from statutory changes typically enacted within the latter half the nineteenth
century. At common law abortionperformed before quickening (the initial recognizable movement
of the vertebrate in utero) wasn t an guilty offense, and it s uncertain that abortion was ever a
firmly established common law crime even once it destroyed a fast vertebrate.
Three reasons are advanced for the historical enactment of criminal abortion laws. the primary is
that the laws square measure the merchandise of a Victorian social concern to discourage illicit
sexual conduct, however this argument has been taken seriously by neither courts nor
commentators. The second reason is that the abortion procedure is risky, thus the State s concern is
to safeguard pregnant ladies. However, fashionable medical techniques have altered matters, with
abortions being comparatively safe notably within the trimester. The third reason is that the State s
interest is in protective the antenatal life. However, this can be somewhat negated by the actual fact
that the pregnant lady can not be prosecuted for the act of abortion.

Karen Carlin Case
Memo
To: Ms. Boyce, Chief Executive Officer
From: Student, Personnel Management Consultant
Subject: Karen Carlin Case Study: Issue Analysis and Proposed Solutions
Date: 21 October 2010
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memo is to analyze and propose solutions for the issues Karen Carlin faces as
she takes on the supervisor role for the schedule typist department of Hepplewhite Boyce. The
three issues to be analyzed are (1) lack of productivity, (2) insubordination and abuse of company
resources, and (3) staff mismanagement. First, the problems will be defined and probable causes
discussed. Then, recommendations will be made to resolve these issues.

She has also been known to report to work, only to leave the office for hours at a time doing
personal errands. Pat is influencing the others to take long lunches and be late for work as well.
This blatant abuse can be attributed to the following possible causes:
1.The employees are not challenged.
2.The employees resent management for not listening to their ideas regarding process improvement.
Clearly, the insubordination and abuse of company resources cannot be allowed to continue. Staff
Mismanagement
And finally, there is the issue of staff mismanagement. The supervisor, Keith Frazier, is only
checking in with this department one to two times per week. Mr. Frazier is aware that Pat is
making international phone calls. He is also aware that Pauline found a way for Pat to make these
calls from the building s elevator once he had the phone system modified to only allow internal
calls. Mr. Frazier has also been fielding complaints from the accountants about not receiving their
tax schedules in a timely fashion. However, he has failed to confront either of these issues. This
lack of management can be attributed to the following:
1.Mr. Frazier does not respect the type of work done by this department.
2.Mr. Frazier fears confrontation.
Something must be done to allow for better management of the staff.
RECOMMENDED SOLUTIONS
Recommendations to solve the issues in the three areas

Abstract
This paper will compare burglary crime statistics between two cities for the years 2005 and 2012
using the Federal Bureau of Investigation database the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program.
This paper will also, discuss which area had more reported incidents, what were the rates of the
crime for each area, did the rates changed over time in either area, and what factors might explain
the differences in the rates.

In 2005, the city of Reno, Nevada had almost three times the population as Sparks, Nevada.
However, the UCR data shows that Sparks, Nevada had just fewer than half the burglaries that

shows that Sparks, Nevada still had just fewer than half the burglaries that Reno, Nevada had.
According to the UCR, from 2005 to 2012 Reno, Nevada had an increase in population of 25,737

Sparks, Nevada, the UCR data showed an increase of the population of 8,596 people and just like
Reno, Nevada, Sparks, Nevada, showed a decrease of 131 burglaries. Although both cities had an

The first is external: the challenge posed by its nuclear weapons program and the threat of
proliferation off the Korean Peninsula. The second is essentially but not wholly internal: the
challenge posed by the pending transfer of power in Pyongyang and potential for instability as
the process plays out. This complex reality underscores the need for balance and strategic
patience if the twin dangers of proliferation and instability on the peninsula are to be successfully
managed. In order to produce these changes in the policy, there must be a determination of the
ends/ goals, ways for achieving the goals, and means as the instruments and activities for
implementing ways. The history of the relationship between the United States and North Korea led
up to today s policy of dealing with North Korea through diplomatic channels. The U.S. helped to
divide the Korean peninsula at the end of World War II, and then waged war against North Korea
in the 1950s. Although the U.S. signed a peace agreement rather than a peace treaty with North
Korea after the war, its policy toward the country changed. Instead of trying to overthrow the North
Korea government, the U.S. government adopted a policy of containing communism. During the
1980 s, associations between North Korea and the U.S. start to take on a new diplomatic form.
North Korea s nuclear weapons program had become a pressing international issue

Bob Dylan And The Definition Of Success
Everything present in the universe is a relatable term just like the word success . Like most of the
definitions, the interpretation of success varies with the people s perception so it is rather
impossible to understand success in a simple way. In the present era, most of the people relate
success with the materialistic achievements such as wealth, power and fame while some prefer to
evaluate successby assessing the contribution of the person to the society. Many great poets,
politicians, writers and songwriters have inked their own version of the definitionof success and one
of the great many quotes by Bob Dylan is A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets
to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do. Dylan... Show more content on

Some may also argue that happiness is never genuinely attainable and it is an abstract feeling than
a quantifiable one. Unquestionably, a person has to be very patient and persist to go through a
different route rather than the one previously determined by the society to really reach their dream
destination but one must differentiate between attainable dream and mere illusion. An entrepreneur
has to be able to distinguish what can be more marketable among the things that they love.
Following an illusion will only lead the person to failure and oust them from the real world

Opositions to Thomas Malthus Theory on Population Growth
Thomas Malthus was an early 19th century English scholar who specializes in political economy
and demographics. One of his most well known and influential works An Essay on the Principle of
Population argued that the increase in population growth would ultimately create social and
economic problems for a nation. On the contrary, many famous political economists such as Ester
Boserup and Julian Simon suggested different views about populationand resource growth; which
contradicts the Malthus theory. Thomas Malthus wrote An Essay on the Principle of Population
argued that the increasing rate of population growth is the impetus of many social and economic
issues that affects our society. His belief was that population increases in geometrical scale whilst
basic supply for humans increase in arithmetical scale, I SAID THAT POPULATION, WHEN
UNCHECKED, increased in a geometrical ratio, and subsistence for man in an arithmetical ratio.
(Quoted from An Essay on the Principle of Population, Chapter 2, page 6) Malthus believed that
overpopulation would lead to mass malnutrition, famine, disease and even war. He proposed two
kinds of method that could keep the population in a sustainable level. First is preventative checks,
which suggested using moral restrains such as the practice of abstinence and criminal punishments
for those who had children that they could not support. The other method is positive checks.
Positive checks are factors that could increase the death

In 1989, GSM responsibility was transferred to the European Telecommunications Standards
Institute (ETSI).The phase I of the GSM specifications were published in 1990. The first GSM
network was launched in 1991 by Radiolinja in Finland. By the end of 1993, over a million
subscribers were using GSM phone networks. The growth of cellular telephone systems started in
the early 1980s, particularly in being operated by 70 carriers across 48 countries.
The Global System for Mobile communications (GSM: originally from Group Special Mobile) is
the most popular standard for mobile phones in the world. GSM service is used by over 2 billion
people across more than 212 countries and territories. The ubiquity of the GSM standard makes
international roaming very common between mobile phone operators, enabling subscribers to
use their phones in many parts of the world. From the point of view of the consumers, the key
advantage of GSM systems has been higher digital voice quality and low cost alternatives to
making calls such as the Short Message Service (SMS). The advantage for network operators has
been the ability to deploy equipment from different vendors because the open standard allows easy
inter operability. Like other cellular standards GSM allows network operators to offer roaming
services which mean subscribers can use their phones all over the world.

Sexual Reproduction And Mating Systems Essay
Hi all, I just wanted to add information to what has been discussed. In topic 11, we learnt about
sexuality (Bingham, Paul M., and Souza J. 2009). A standout amongst the most intriguing parts of
human life is the manner by which we pick our mates. Animals likewise pick their mates, in some
cases with a lot of consideration. Mating systems are critical to comprehend in light of the fact that
they mirror the consequence of common choice on mate decision, and eventually on systems for
augmenting individual reproductive success. A mating system depicts how guys and females pair
while picking a mate. Males and females vary extraordinarily in the speculation every makes to
reproduce, and may along these lines approach mating with contrasting procedures. At the point
when picking mates, animals develop species regular systems for amplifying their reproductive
success this outcomes in significant diversity qualities among animal species in their mating
patterns. In particular, sexual reproductionfrequently includes evolutionary differentiation of males
and females. Females commonly create fundamentally less gametes (eggs) than males and invest
heavily in every one. Then again, males produce numerous gametes (sperm) and put little into every
one. These solid contrasts in gameteinvestment between the genders prompts reproductive
procedures between the genders that, now and again, struggle. Females may spend more care than
males selecting a mate because of the high cost of their

String Theory
What is string theory and what does it mean for human kind? String theory is a theory that seeks to
unify the four forces of nature and explain the origins of our universe. Before the string theory, it
was impossible to combine the theories of General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics. By using
tiny vibrating strings of energy that are 10 33 m in length, scientists can create all the fundamental
particles we ve started to find using particle accelerators. Then, using these particles they can try to
unite the two different theories and create a universe that is perhaps, more perfect than the Standard
Model will allow. And what s great about string theoryis that it explains more than just how gravity,
electromagnetic force, weak nuclear... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Einstein spoke about the relationship of energy to mass and using his formulas, scientists have
theorized that the energy released from two membranes colliding could create our universe!
Furthermore, there is nothing to suggest that the membranes could have only banged together
once, so perhaps our universe is not the first nor the last to be created. So thus string theory united
the universe, theorizes about additional universes and proposes a neat solution to the question of
how the Big Bang was triggered! Fortunately, string theory only has one problem. Unfortunately, it
s a huge problem: there is currently no way to test the validity of string theory because all
theoretical tests proposed to find strings would take millions of times the amount of energy we
have at our disposal. Our highest powered particle accelerators are too feebly underpowered to
even find gravitons, let alone the strings that would prove string theory correct. Despite these
problems with directly proving string theory, physicists like Brian Greene and Lisa Randal
(classmates from Stuyvesant) continue to seek out circumstantial evidence like supersymmetry
(each particle has a sparticle (superparticle)), new dimensions and gravitons or rather the absence of
gravitons as they escape into different dimensions. There are of course physicists who warn that
because string theory is

Help Me Nigga Character Analysis
In Kevin Hart s stand up comedy show titled Let Me Explain Witness the Rise of A Legend,
Kevin Hart goes on a comedic rant about the changes he went thru doing his marriage and before,
during and after his divorce that led him to become the person he is today. One comedy bit that
stood out to me the most was entitled Help Me Nigga. Kevin begins this bit by stating that cheating
was the reason why his marriagefailed, but immediately after stating this turns around and states
that is was actually lying about cheating that was the reason why his marriage didn t last. He
proceeds to give examples of the many times that he lied about when he was cheating even

According to the article Emotional Detachment in Relationships, by Michael Schreiner, emotional
detachment is more common among males than women where a man tends to shut down, stop
talking and distance himself when there is a difficult conflict situation going on with no resolution
in sight. One way to get through this emotional detachment is to not poke or prod your partner to
force them to become emotionally attached, but rather give them some space and time to let things
calm down. Poking and prodding has been found to have an adverse effect on what you are trying
to accomplish. Physical disconnect ranks high as one of the reasons why relationships fail as well.
Your significant other is sexually dissatisfied and instead of dealing with the issue with their mate,
they are tempted to wander and go outside the relationship to satisfy those urges. One solution to
conquer and overcome this issue is to establish an open line of communication so that your partner
can be aware of your wants and desires and hopefully help in fulfilling them for you.
In addition, relationships often fail because either one or both partners are not being honest with
themselves, their mate or with the relationship as a whole. A lot of times people get involved with
one another and assume that what they want and desire out of a relationship is the same thing that
their partner wants as well. This could be anything from wanting to be in a monogamous
relationship and not knowing that the

Part1/2 Design has factored a great amount in my life. It has told me what to choose and what
not to choose in clothing, grocery, and book stores. Design influences me in these places
because it helps me to be aware of what I m buying and what is physically appealing to me as a
consumer. One time I was at the grocery store with my mother, and I bought 20oz Fuji water
bottles for the both of us. While I was in line, waiting to pay for the water bottles, I started to think
of why the company of Fuji water shaped their bottles rectangular. Was it easier to hold? Was it just
a slimmer and satisfying design? Was it different tasting water? What made me buy this bottle
compared to other water bottles such as Aquamarine or the Great Value brand? These were the
questions that running through my head. All these questions are what company s designers think

Harrison Bergeron Hero
Harrison Bergeron
In Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, a society set in the future is controlled by a
government who claims to make all people equal, when in reality, they are filled with
corruption. Harrison Bergeron, an elite young teenager, sees the malfeasance in the government,
and decides to stand up for the greater good of the nation. In order to do this, Harrison removes
all of the handicaps placed on him by the government and reveals it to the world on live
television, eventually being shot and killed. Many people may see Harrison as a threat to his
society due to the unnecessary chaos he caused. However, because he sparked the idea of rebellion
in a civilization desperate for freedom, Harrison Bergeron can be considered a hero to society.
Harrison s actions of can be described as heroic due to the fact that he attempted to revolutionize
the society in a way that benefitted the population as a whole, not just himself. Many other
people were angered and confused by the idea of handicaps, and by standing up to the
government when all other people were afraid to do so, he acted in a selfless manner, a
characteristic of a true hero. An example of another person doubting the intentions of the Handicap
General can be seen at the beginning of the story, when George, Harrison s father, realizes that it is
unfair to place the hindrance of a handicap on a ballerina. On page 2, the text states, George was
toying with the vague notion that maybe dancers shouldn t be

also this doctrine shows that the isolationism policy of America has ended.
The Truman Doctrine
At the present moment in world history nearly every nation must choose between alternative
ways of life. The choice is too often not a free one. One way of life is based upon the will of the
majority, and is distinguished by free institutions, representative government, free elections, and
guarantees of individual liberty, freedom of speech and religion, and freedom from political
oppression. The second way of life is based upon the will of a minority forcibly imposed upon
the majority. It relies upon terror and oppression, a controlled press and radio, fixed elections,
and the suppression of personal freedoms. I believe that it must be the policy of the United States
to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside
pressures. I believe that we must assist free peoples to work out their own destinies in their own
way. I believe that our help should be primarily through economic stability and orderly political
process.
President Harry S. Truman, March 12, 1947
After this policy United States of America started to apply three main missions. These missions are;
1) Try to provide military, economic and political stabilization of Europe.
2) Cover the Europe

Many positions and occupations will gradually disappear. For example, craftsmen in the
traditional manufacturing industry were replaced by line workers, or computer literate personal
assistants replaced secretaries who only used paper and typewriters. According to the research
data: since World War II, after Industrial Development, the rate of labor participation has been
declining in the United States and other industrialized countries (Hughes, 2014). Snyder (2013)

Essay on The Failings of Fundamentalism
Fundamentalism is an espresso shot of Christianity strong, bitter, and undiluted.
Fundamentalists believe the Bible should be interpreted as literal fact, not metaphorically.
To them, it is God s direct word to humanity and the ultimate earthly authority. And so
fundamentalists follow the Bible with unwavering certainty, as if it were God himself, and
press their interpretation of the book upon society. But the certainty at fundamentalism s core is
unwarranted, leading them to wrongfully ignore their oppositions own valid opinions and the
potential gains that come with them.
In the eyes of Christian fundamentalists, their actions are protecting God s will;
they are upholding the laws of the Supreme Being, thus keeping ... Show more content on

Their beliefs
demand an uncompromising attitude; for in their minds, their beliefs are not just their beliefs, but
unquestionable truths ordained by God.
While the fundamentalists reasoning is valid, their assumptions are dubious, resulting in
an absolutist mindset that unduly rejects non Biblical viewpoints. Indeed, if the Bible is inerrant,
and if the Bible is God s supreme will, then the fundamentalists zeal is justifiable and the world
ought to listen to them. However, fundamentalists downplay the almighty if. By their own
admission, their certainty in the Bible and in God is built on faith, which the Bible defines
as confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see (NIV Heb. 11.1).
Neither hope nor assurance are quantifiable pieces of evidence; they are feelings, subjective by
definition. Therefore, fundamentalists may feel they are right, but they cannot know whether
they are right by standards of objective reasoning. Even if fundamentalist doctrine is entirely
correct, it has no more privilege to absolute certainty than any other set of opinions. As such,
fundamentalists must understand that their legislative efforts to defend God s will from ungodly
assaults (Marsden) will be seen by others as acts of condemnation, homophobia, and misogyny
(Riascos). They must consider others opposite and equally

Firstly, to prepare for the first administration of the CAS, I read the examiner manual which
explained that in order for the results to be interpretable and avoid reducing of reliability and
validity, the assessment should be administered according to the procedures and recommended
testing conditions (Das Naglieri, 1997). There were several key points to be familiar with which
are: the materials needed in each subtest (ie. Response book, red pencil, stopwatch), the starting
points according to age, the time limits per item, scoring of each item, and the discontinue rules. I
then reviewed the record forms, response booklets, and marked the starting points according to

As a result, I made changes with Sierra s assessment and decided to split it in two sessions with
two subtests each session in order to avoid fatigueness.
Building Rapport According to Das and Naglieri (1997), it is important to establish rapport with
the examinee but also be aware of providing praise and compliment that may influence the results. I
found it fairly easy to build rapport with Jhallen as I have conducted an interview for the first
assignment. As the setting was more relaxed, Jhallen often asked some questions in which I found
it difficult to not repeat the item or give guidance. In order to not compromise the standardization of
the test, I reminded Jhallen in every beginning of the task that I cannot give guidance. On the
other hand, my assessment with Sierra required more effort in building rapport as she appeared to
be shy and quiet in the beginning. In order to establish rapport I had a brief conversation about her
day and introduced the assessment, emphasising that some of the tasks may be easy or difficulty
but to try her best. To maintain rapport during the assessment, I made sure that she understood the
instructions of every task and be aware that I could not provide help or feedback.
Report Writing The CAS Examiner s Manual provided steps in scoring and interpreting the scores. I
found the instructions to score the CAS results to be straightforward. It was also very

Civil Liberties And Civil Rights
Throughout history, society has pushed the envelope with civil liberties and civil rights by tackling
Supreme Court decisions. The attempts to manipulate civil rights and civil liberties occurred
without a clear understanding of neither of the two. While civil rights and civil liberties regulate
collective action, they differ by providing freedoms from the government and by providing
freedoms to act; their shift in history has been denoted by racial and gender discrimination,
nationalization, and rights of the accused. Civil liberties, as denoted in the Bill of Rights, had
limited the government s actions by providing freedoms from the government. Because the
government could not take away the people s rights, the Bill of Rights listed thou shalt nots, which
limit[ed] its [the government s] jurisdiction (Lowi pg. 107). A famous substantive limitation, or a
restriction against what Congress could do, was, and is, the establishment clause, or the separation
between Church and State. As the first component of the First Amendment, the establishment
clause impedes the government s ability from establishing a national Church; consequently, due to
religious persecution in England in the 1700 s, the establishment clause serves to protect the
citizens from the possible tyranny of religion by permitting the accommodation of all religions
through assistance and by not allowing the government to show no favoritism . Therefore, the

The Impact Of Job Enrichment On Motivation And Communication
The following case analysis is derived from an article that examines the realignment of the Health

My case analysis will involve answering four questions. How are the principles of goal setting
applied in the case? How are the principles of job enrichment applied in this case? What were the
outcomes of job enrichment in the HIS Departments? What was the impact of job enrichment on
motivation and communication in the HIS department?

It is not a technique that can be uniformly used throughout an organization or department. In order
for job enrichment to be effective, leaders have to understand the employees that are under them.
Just as there are benefits to using job enrichment, there are also risks associated with it. The
benefits are the desired outcomes that the HIS Department is looking to achieve when
implementing such a technique. Monotony is something that job enrichment can combat
because there are added task, responsibility and accountability. The offset of monotony is believe
to be a common motivator; however, in the HIS Department the addition of more task, more
responsibility, and more accountability can lead to more stress (Layman, 2011). More stress is
the result because their chief complaint is work overload. Another set of common problem that
can be combated with job enrichment is boredom, careless errors, tardiness, absenteeism, and
low moral. There are plenty of risks to balance when trying to offset these problems. One risk is
overload which is already a complaint of many employees. Another risk to balance is the concern
of the Human Resources (HR) Department about pay grade (Layman, 2011). With added task and
responsibility comes the question of a higher pay grade. It is the job of the HR Department to
oversee the pay grade of the organization. An even bigger risk may be a concern about licensing
and credentialing. Adding tasks to a job that requires additional

The Use Of Pesticides And Their Rate Of Decay On Soil...
One of the largest, and unspoken issues being dealt with in the United States today is the use of
pesticides and their rate of decay on soil rejuvenation. American culture currently accepts the
adaptation of genetically modified foods without regard to its various effects. In fact according
to the Organic Consumers Association, It s estimated that 75 percent of processed foods
contain GMOs and 80 percent of all food consumed in the U.S. is processed. (5) Our country has
developed a system in which the agricultural norm is to use genetic modifications in order to
keep up with the demand for fast, good looking produce. As long as America is choosing the
cheaper option of mass produced GMO infested product, we will see a continual decline in soil
quality and American health problems. In an economic sense, due to the oversupply of
genetically modified foods farms with GM foods are having to deal with the over exposure of
pesticides, which slows down the rejuvenation rate of the soil.(5) In fact, the government
purposefully pays farmers to use pesticides in order to keep the cost of living down for people
who are currently living in poverty. The soil in the America needs to be organically restored in
order to have this finite resource withstand the lifespan of the human race. Hazardous effects of

What Does History And Culture Of A Civilization Shape Its...
Fashion and celebrity, as they are today, are often seen as the end product of a long historical
process of industrialisation and democratisation. How useful is it to see them in this historical
perspective? What does it help to explain? Your answer should discuss concrete examples.
Introduction
Throughout the long expansion of human history, local fashion and clothing have always been a
good indicator that reflects historical, political and economical forces within a society. Varies
historical periods will have corresponding fashion and style to represent their unique value and
culture. Multiple looks with a variety of stylistic influences are stripped from their historical
contexts and become part of a large fashion influenced process (Kaiser, 1990). Thus, our modern
day fashion is indeed an end product of series of historical progression. This essay will aim to
examine how does history and culture of a civilization shape its unique fashion styling and
influence modern day fashion by using China as an example and explore the variances in its fashion
development throughout five thousand years of rich Chinese history.
Over the past five thousand years of Chinese history, fashion trend in China has experienced great
changes in most of Chinese dynasties and each of those historical periods are able to distinguish
itself among others while learn and borrow from the previous dynasty and develope continuously
generation after generation. Those heritage chinese elements has

The Little Red Riding Hood
Do you ever wonder why writers retell our childhood tales? Does is ever occur to you that the
tales being retold may be used to tell a reader a deeper message? During our childhood we were
told stories of many sorts that directed a message to the reader, such as The Little Red Riding
Hood by Charles Perrault. As children, our parents read this short story in order for us to receive
the authors message to not talk to strangers or else something bad can happen. Children see tales
such as The Little Red Riding Hoodvery differently than adults do. As adults, they see this young
attractive village girl being tricked by the wolf who gathers information he needs to find her
grandmother to eat. Overtime, the story has changed numerous times based... Show more content on

One of the symbols that periodically pops up in many of the Little Red Riding Hood tales is the
red cap that Little Red wears. The cap is given to her by her grandmother, which symbolizes a
deeper message in the retellings. The story by Perrault really doesn t symbolize anything,
mainly noted that it was given by her grandmother, however, in Angela Carters story it represents
the transition to women hood. Carter states, She closed the window on the wolves threnody and
took off her scarlet shawl, the color of poppies, the color of sacrifices, the color of her menses,
and since her fear did her no good, she ceased to be afraid. What shall I do with my shawl?
Throw it on the fire, dear one. You won t need it again (649). Here Little Red Riding Hood burns
her shawl, which represent her sexuality. Little Red is no longer betrayed as a little girl, she ends
her innocence by burning her shawl which ends her virginity. Symbols can represent more than just
a symbolic meaning but making it important or a lesson taught to the readers. The shawl that
represents her cape which symbolizes the end of her little girl innocence because she gets naked in
front of the wolf and the story goes on to lose her virginity. Another symbol that resonance Little
Red in general is,

Themes In A Passage To India
The British rule in India is known through history. The reasons why the British colonized India
might have been economic interest that they had over it. Due to this, the British settled their
administration and controlled the place. The British tent to create their own society in India and
settled there, having all of the advantages. This settlement of the British in India, the way they ruled
the colonized country, the way they behaved towards the locals and their living there, is best
described in E.M Forster s A Passage to India . It should be mentioned that A Passage to India is
a novel that criticizes not only the British administration of India but as a sociological novel, as
well, that discusses the obstacles that forbid the friendship between people belonging to different
nations and cultures. The importance of the theme is that it explores an important question: Can
people of different races be friends? The novel focuses on the English and the Indian races. The
novel became famous for the reason that it elaborates quite a sensitive theme, and is considered as
Forster s most famous work. The purpose of this study was to analyze and describe the... Show

The British acted sometimes ruthlessly toward the locals believing they are allowed to do whatever
they want since they thought Indians to be of lower social class in comparison to theirs. The poet
uses juxtaposition to compare and contrast the two cultures. We can percept their differences
regarding their social classes, education and their way of living.
Being one of the most significant themes of A Passage to India , it would be worth analyzing the
novel by the aspect of friendship. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to analyze the complexity of
creating a relationship between people of different nations, the obstacles that characters of A
Passage to India dealt with and the conflicts between

Analysis Of Ghost In The Shell
The term cyborg was first created when researchers attempted to alter the human body for space
travel (Corbett, 2009). It is short for cybernetic organism, that is, a being with both organic and
biomechatronic components. The film Ghost in the Shell (1995) is an example of speculative
fiction and takes place in a futuristic Hong Kong inspired cityscape, where cyborgs and prosthetic
bodies are not unusual. Oshii Masamune s animated science fiction film is set in 2029, when
people can customise their bodies, replay memories and move from shell to shell. Susan Napier
describes the film as an exploration of the possibilities of transcending individual and corporeal
identity (Napier, 2001, as cited in Ashby, 2008, 2.4).
It is common practice to own a cyberbrain; an artificially augmented brain that allows connection
to the internet and other networks. Public security agency Section 9 is searching for a mysterious
hacker known as the Puppet Master . The hacker is able to alter the memories of individuals with
cyberbrains, leaving the Section 9 investigator, Motoko, wondering if her memories and feelings
are real. It is later revealed that the hacker is a secret project created by Section 6.
So, what is the definition of a human in a society where the mind can be copied and the body
replaced? When humans live in artificial bodies and artificially intelligent androids learn to feel, are
they any different? Oshii uses the trans human as a theme to speculatively explore the

Foreshadowing In The Monkey s Paw
Have you ever felt suspense and anticipation while reading a book or story? The literary element
that may have taken part in that feeling is foreshadowing. Three stories that will be discussed in
which foreshadowing was the most influential element are The Lottery written by Shirley
Jackson, Night Burial written by Ken Seibert, and The Monkey s Paw written by W.W. Jacobs.
Foreshadowing is a literary element by which the author hints what is to come. Foreshadowing is
also a dramatic device in which an important plot point is introduced early in the story and will
return in a more notable way. Shirley Jackson, Ken Seibert and W.W. Jacobs use foreshadowing to
create suspense and anticipation, this keeps the reader committed to read on. Foreshadowing

Recollection in Plato s Phaedo and Meno Essay
Recollection in Plato s Phaedo and Meno
As the earliest philosopher from whom we have written texts, Plato is often misrepresented as
merely reproducing Socratic rhetoric. In Meno, one of the first Platonic dialogues, Plato offers his
own unique philosophical theory, infused with his mentor s brilliant sophistry.
Amidst discussing whether or not virtue can be taught, Meno poses a difficult paradox: How can
one be virtuous, or seek virtue, when one cannot know what it is? How will you aim to search for
something you do not know at all? (Plato, Meno, 80d). From this question, Plato purposes a
solution, that knowledge must be recollected from the soul. When the soul enters the world of
space and time, Plato suggests, it carries some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Near the end of Meno, Socrates observes:
For true opinions, so long as they stick around, are a fine thing and do all sorts of good. But they
are not willing to stick around for long. Rather, they escape from one s mind, so that they are not
worth much until one ties them down by figuring out the cause. (97e 98e)
Thus true opinion, on the other hand, is of things circumstantial and conditional, and remains only
temporarily in the soul s memory. Plato also uses the example of a journey to Larissa to illustrate
this difference; for even if one knows the route, in another lifetime the route may change, and thus
is temporary. The route to Larissa, therefore, would be an object of true opinion but not of
knowledge, and could not be recollected by another in future lifetimes.
Although these examples of differentiating knowledge and opinion strengthen Plato s theory of
recollection, the theory itself is not substantiated enough to prove the soul s immortality. Other
statements in both books prove to be hypocritical. If all humans possess innate knowledge through
recollection, this would refute Socrates frequent statement that he does not have any knowledge.
Other explanations are also lacking: if we are to believe this theory of recollected knowledge, then
how did the soul initially gain any knowledge? If opinion is

What to do about Funding in Public Schools
The public school system in America has long has been an issue of discussion amongst people
everywhere. The school system is something we deal with in every state and city in America. It is
one system in our country that is in need of great evaluation when it comes to the issue of funding.
There are funding gaps that are so large from school to school when it comes to the issue of
funding that we have some schools that are barley in suitable living conditions, have the oldest
materials and are very understaffed to schools that have the best of everything in every aspect to
include the teachers. Is this the type of unbalanced system you want your kids in? People often
complain that we need to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, theoretically at least only the schools that could provide the students with all these above
mentioned things would be the schools that would get the students. Whether they are public or
private it would be the parent s decision
The idea behind the voucher system developed by Milton Friedman is that for each student the
parents would be allotted a certain sum of money for their schooling for the year. Now the parent
could send their child to any school of their choice, public or private under this system the parents
would have better control over the education of their young ones. This means that the parents
could put all the money they are allotted towards the school and if it costs more than that amount
then they have to pay the difference out of their pocket. This would encourage competition among
all schools. It would raise the par on education and we would not have so many of the major
funding problems that so many public schools are facing now. Because of this the schools would
have the money to give the students a better education because many of them would have all the
money they would need to fund themselves. Teachers would try harder; the schools could be
updated with the latest technology and latest materials. In essence it would be like survival of the
fittest for the schools,

  • 2. Porn and Censorship Pornography and Censorship Should the government be allowed to legitimately prohibit citizens from publishing or viewing pornography, or would this be an unjustified violation of basic freedoms? Traditionally, liberals defended the freedom of consenting adults to publish and consume pornography in private from moral and religious conservatives who wanted pornography banned for its obscenity, its corrupting impact on consumers and its corrosive effect on traditional family and religious values. But, in more recent times, the pornography debate has taken on a somewhat new and surprising shape. Some feminists have found themselves allied with their traditional conservative foes in calling on the state to regulate or prohibit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other sexually explicit representations depict acts of violent coercion: people being bound, whipped, beaten, tortured, penetrated by objects, mutilated, raped and even killed. Some sexually explicit material may be degrading, without necessarily being overtly violent. This material depicts people (most often women) in positions of servility and subordination in their sexual relations with others, or engaged in sexual acts that many people would regard as humiliating. Some sexually explicit material involves or depicts children. Some portrays bestiality and necrophilia; and so on. On the first definition of pornography as sexually explicit material, all such material would count as pornography, insofar as it is sexually explicit. But this simple definition is not quite right. Anatomy textbooks for medical students are sexually explicit they depict exposed genitalia, for example but are rarely, if ever, viewed as pornography. Sexual explicitness may be a necessary condition for material to count as pornographic, but it does not seem to be sufficient. So something needs to be added to the simple definition. What else might be required? Here is a second definition. Pornography is sexually explicit material (verbal or pictorial) that is primarily designed to produce sexual arousal in viewers. This definition is better: it deals with the problem of anatomy textbooks and the like. Indeed, this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Analysis Of Helft Mir Ihr Schwestern Helft mir, ihr Schwestern is song number five from Robert Schumann s song cycle Frauenliebe und leben. The song cycle was set to the text of a poem cycle of the same name by Adelbert von Chamisso. Each poem in the cycle provides a glimpse into the story of a woman falling in love with a man, getting engaged and married to him, getting pregnant and having a child, becoming a widow and finally sharing her life story with her granddaughter. At the time that Schumann wrote this song cycle, he was going through a legal battle with his future wife s father over the right to marry her. This poem cycle contains themes of love, devotion, and longing that Schumann could personally relate with his feelings for Clara Wieck, who would soon become Clara Schumann. In this essay, I will demonstrate how Frauenliebe und leben is directly reflective of Robert Schumanns own life experiences. In so doing, I will be analyzing the ways in which Schumann set the music in a fashion that emphasized the structure and emotional content of the poetry. In order to better understand the context of Robert Schuman s setting of Helft mir, ihr Schwestern, I will first provide a general analysis of the song cycle as a whole. As Schumann set music to the various poems, he shifted the tonality to closely related keys, such as a fourth or fifth away, or shifting the relative or parallel major and minor keys. These shifts in tonality help emphasis the emotional development of the main character of the poems. The song cycle begins with a relatively slow and reflective song in the key of Bb major, where the main subject of the poem cycle first describes her feelings of intense, blind love for a man. The next song shifts the tonal center up a fourth to the key of Eb. In this song, the woman raises the man of her affection up on a pedestal of high praise, while she demeans herself to a lowly maid. Song three, moves the tonality to the relative minor of the previous song, C minor. This song is about the woman s disbelief that the man she adored so highly has fallen in love with her, and Schumann reflects that disbelief by making the music more erratic in tempo. He also emphasizes the disbelief by repeating the complete last stanza and then the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The theme of good and evil is expressed through the eyes of the man and the boy, who label people as either good guys or bad guys. While the boy has a more simplistic idea of good and evil, the man has a hard time grasping the difference between who the good guys and the bad guys are. The U.S. helped to divide the Korean peninsula at the end of World War II, and then waged war against North Korea in the 1950s. One of his most well known and influential works An Essay on the Principle of Population argued that the increase in population growth would ultimately create social and economic problems for a nation. On the contrary, many famous political economists such as Ester Boserup and Julian Simon suggested different views about populationand resource growth; which contradicts the Malthus theory. Thomas Malthus wrote An Essay on the Principle of Population argued that the increasing rate of population growth is the impetus of many social and economic issues that affects our society. His belief was that population increases in geometrical scale whilst basic supply for humans increase in arithmetical scale, I SAID THAT POPULATION, WHEN UNCHECKED, increased in a geometrical ratio, and subsistence for man in an arithmetical ratio. (Quoted from An Essay on the Principle of Population, Chapter 2, page 6) Malthus believed that overpopulation would lead to mass malnutrition, famine, disease and even war. He proposed two kinds of method that could keep the population in a sustainable level. • 19. Sexual Reproduction And Mating Systems Essay Hi all, I just wanted to add information to what has been discussed. In topic 11, we learnt about sexuality (Bingham, Paul M., and Souza J. 2009). A standout amongst the most intriguing parts of human life is the manner by which we pick our mates. Animals likewise pick their mates, in some cases with a lot of consideration. Mating systems are critical to comprehend in light of the fact that they mirror the consequence of common choice on mate decision, and eventually on systems for augmenting individual reproductive success. A mating system depicts how guys and females pair while picking a mate. Males and females vary extraordinarily in the speculation every makes to reproduce, and may along these lines approach mating with contrasting procedures. At the point when picking mates, animals develop species regular systems for amplifying their reproductive success this outcomes in significant diversity qualities among animal species in their mating patterns. In particular, sexual reproductionfrequently includes evolutionary differentiation of males and females. Females commonly create fundamentally less gametes (eggs) than males and invest heavily in every one. Then again, males produce numerous gametes (sperm) and put little into every one. These solid contrasts in gameteinvestment between the genders prompts reproductive procedures between the genders that, now and again, struggle. Furthermore, there is nothing to suggest that the membranes could have only banged together once, so perhaps our universe is not the first nor the last to be created. So thus string theory united the universe, theorizes about additional universes and proposes a neat solution to the question of how the Big Bang was triggered! Fortunately, string theory only has one problem. Unfortunately, it s a huge problem: there is currently no way to test the validity of string theory because all theoretical tests proposed to find strings would take millions of times the amount of energy we have at our disposal. Our highest powered particle accelerators are too feebly underpowered to even find gravitons, let alone the strings that would prove string theory correct. Despite these problems with directly proving string theory, physicists like Brian Greene and Lisa Randal (classmates from Stuyvesant) continue to seek out circumstantial evidence like supersymmetry (each particle has a sparticle (superparticle)), new dimensions and gravitons or rather the absence of gravitons as they escape into different dimensions. There are of course physicists who warn that because string theory is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the article Emotional Detachment in Relationships, by Michael Schreiner, emotional detachment is more common among males than women where a man tends to shut down, stop talking and distance himself when there is a difficult conflict situation going on with no resolution in sight. One way to get through this emotional detachment is to not poke or prod your partner to force them to become emotionally attached, but rather give them some space and time to let things calm down. Poking and prodding has been found to have an adverse effect on what you are trying to accomplish. Physical disconnect ranks high as one of the reasons why relationships fail as well. Your significant other is sexually dissatisfied and instead of dealing with the issue with their mate, they are tempted to wander and go outside the relationship to satisfy those urges. One solution to conquer and overcome this issue is to establish an open line of communication so that your partner can be aware of your wants and desires and hopefully help in fulfilling them for you. In addition, relationships often fail because either one or both partners are not being honest with themselves, their mate or with the relationship as a whole. A lot of times people get involved with one another and assume that what they want and desire out of a relationship is the same thing that their partner wants as well. This could be anything from wanting to be in a monogamous relationship and not knowing that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to do this, Harrison removes all of the handicaps placed on him by the government and reveals it to the world on live television, eventually being shot and killed. Many people may see Harrison as a threat to his society due to the unnecessary chaos he caused. However, because he sparked the idea of rebellion in a civilization desperate for freedom, Harrison Bergeron can be considered a hero to society. Harrison s actions of can be described as heroic due to the fact that he attempted to revolutionize the society in a way that benefitted the population as a whole, not just himself. Many other people were angered and confused by the idea of handicaps, and by standing up to the government when all other people were afraid to do so, he acted in a selfless manner, a characteristic of a true hero. One way of life is based upon the will of the majority, and is distinguished by free institutions, representative government, free elections, and guarantees of individual liberty, freedom of speech and religion, and freedom from political oppression. The second way of life is based upon the will of a minority forcibly imposed upon the majority. • 30. Civil Liberties And Civil Rights Throughout history, society has pushed the envelope with civil liberties and civil rights by tackling Supreme Court decisions. The attempts to manipulate civil rights and civil liberties occurred without a clear understanding of neither of the two. While civil rights and civil liberties regulate collective action, they differ by providing freedoms from the government and by providing freedoms to act; their shift in history has been denoted by racial and gender discrimination, nationalization, and rights of the accused. Civil liberties, as denoted in the Bill of Rights, had limited the government s actions by providing freedoms from the government. Because the government could not take away the people s rights, the Bill of Rights listed thou shalt nots, which limit[ed] its [the government s] jurisdiction (Lowi pg. 107). A famous substantive limitation, or a restriction against what Congress could do, was, and is, the establishment clause, or the separation between Church and State. As the first component of the First Amendment, the establishment clause impedes the government s ability from establishing a national Church; consequently, due to religious persecution in England in the 1700 s, the establishment clause serves to protect the citizens from the possible tyranny of religion by permitting the accommodation of all religions through assistance and by not allowing the government to show no favoritism . Fashion and celebrity, as they are today, are often seen as the end product of a long historical process of industrialisation and democratisation. Varies historical periods will have corresponding fashion and style to represent their unique value and culture. • 43. The Little Red Riding Hood Do you ever wonder why writers retell our childhood tales? Does is ever occur to you that the tales being retold may be used to tell a reader a deeper message? During our childhood we were told stories of many sorts that directed a message to the reader, such as The Little Red Riding Hood by Charles Perrault. As children, our parents read this short story in order for us to receive the authors message to not talk to strangers or else something bad can happen. Children see tales such as The Little Red Riding Hoodvery differently than adults do. As adults, they see this young attractive village girl being tricked by the wolf who gathers information he needs to find her grandmother to eat. One of the symbols that periodically pops up in many of the Little Red Riding Hood tales is the red cap that Little Red wears. The cap is given to her by her grandmother, which symbolizes a deeper message in the retellings. The story by Perrault really doesn t symbolize anything, mainly noted that it was given by her grandmother, however, in Angela Carters story it represents the transition to women hood. Carter states, She closed the window on the wolves threnody and took off her scarlet shawl, the color of poppies, the color of sacrifices, the color of her menses, and since her fear did her no good, she ceased to be afraid. What shall I do with my shawl? Throw it on the fire, dear one. You won t need it again (649). Here Little Red Riding Hood burns her shawl, which represent her sexuality. Little Red is no longer betrayed as a little girl, she ends her innocence by burning her shawl which ends her virginity. Symbols can represent more than just a symbolic meaning but making it important or a lesson taught to the readers. The shawl that represents her cape which symbolizes the end of her little girl innocence because she gets naked in front of the wolf and the story goes on to lose her virginity. • 45. Themes In A Passage To India The British rule in India is known through history. The reasons why the British colonized India might have been economic interest that they had over it. Due to this, the British settled their administration and controlled the place. The British tent to create their own society in India and settled there, having all of the advantages. This settlement of the British in India, the way they ruled the colonized country, the way they behaved towards the locals and their living there, is best described in E.M Forster s A Passage to India . It should be mentioned that A Passage to India is a novel that criticizes not only the British administration of India but as a sociological novel, as well, that discusses the obstacles that forbid the friendship between people belonging to different nations and cultures. The importance of the theme is that it explores an important question: Can people of different races be friends? The novel focuses on the English and the Indian races. The novel became famous for the reason that it elaborates quite a sensitive theme, and is considered as Forster s most famous work. The purpose of this study was to analyze and describe the... • 46. Analysis Of Ghost In The Shell The term cyborg was first created when researchers attempted to alter the human body for space travel (Corbett, 2009). It is short for cybernetic organism, that is, a being with both organic and biomechatronic components. The film Ghost in the Shell (1995) is an example of speculative fiction and takes place in a futuristic Hong Kong inspired cityscape, where cyborgs and prosthetic bodies are not unusual. Oshii Masamune s animated science fiction film is set in 2029, when people can customise their bodies, replay memories and move from shell to shell. Susan Napier describes the film as an exploration of the possibilities of transcending individual and corporeal identity (Napier, 2001, as cited in Ashby, 2008, 2.4). It is common practice to own a cyberbrain; an artificially augmented brain that allows connection to the internet and other networks. Public security agency Section 9 is searching for a mysterious hacker known as the Puppet Master . The hacker is able to alter the memories of individuals with cyberbrains, leaving the Section 9 investigator, Motoko, wondering if her memories and feelings are real. It is later revealed that the hacker is a secret project created by Section 6. So, what is the definition of a human in a society where the mind can be copied and the body replaced? When humans live in artificial bodies and artificially intelligent androids learn to feel, are they any different? Oshii uses the trans human as a theme to speculatively explore the ... • 48. Recollection in Plato s Phaedo and Meno Essay Recollection in Plato s Phaedo and Meno As the earliest philosopher from whom we have written texts, Plato is often misrepresented as merely reproducing Socratic rhetoric. In Meno, one of the first Platonic dialogues, Plato offers his own unique philosophical theory, infused with his mentor s brilliant sophistry. Amidst discussing whether or not virtue can be taught, Meno poses a difficult paradox: How can one be virtuous, or seek virtue, when one cannot know what it is? How will you aim to search for something you do not know at all? (Plato, Meno, 80d). From this question, Plato purposes a solution, that knowledge must be recollected from the soul. When the soul enters the world of space and time, Plato suggests, it carries some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Near the end of Meno, Socrates observes: For true opinions, so long as they stick around, are a fine thing and do all sorts of good. But they are not willing to stick around for long. Rather, they escape from one s mind, so that they are not worth much until one ties them down by figuring out the cause. (97e 98e) Thus true opinion, on the other hand, is of things circumstantial and conditional, and remains only temporarily in the soul s memory. Plato also uses the example of a journey to Larissa to illustrate this difference; for even if one knows the route, in another lifetime the route may change, and thus is temporary. The route to Larissa, therefore, would be an object of true opinion but not of knowledge, and could not be recollected by another in future lifetimes. Although these examples of differentiating knowledge and opinion strengthen Plato s theory of recollection, the theory itself is not substantiated enough to prove the soul s immortality. Other statements in both books prove to be hypocritical. If all humans possess innate knowledge through recollection, this would refute Socrates frequent statement that he does not have any knowledge. Other explanations are also lacking: if we are to believe this theory of recollected knowledge, then how did the soul initially gain any knowledge? If opinion is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. what to do about education Essay What to do about Funding in Public Schools The public school system in America has long has been an issue of discussion amongst people everywhere. The school system is something we deal with in every state and city in America. It is one system in our country that is in need of great evaluation when it comes to the issue of funding. There are funding gaps that are so large from school to school when it comes to the issue of funding that we have some schools that are barley in suitable living conditions, have the oldest materials and are very understaffed to schools that have the best of everything in every aspect to include the teachers. Is this the type of unbalanced system you want your kids in? People often complain that we need to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, theoretically at least only the schools that could provide the students with all these above mentioned things would be the schools that would get the students. Whether they are public or private it would be the parent s decision The idea behind the voucher system developed by Milton Friedman is that for each student the parents would be allotted a certain sum of money for their schooling for the year. Now the parent could send their child to any school of their choice, public or private under this system the parents would have better control over the education of their young ones. This means that the parents could put all the money they are allotted towards the school and if it costs more than that amount then they have to pay the difference out of their pocket. This would encourage competition among all schools. It would raise the par on education and we would not have so many of the major funding problems that so many public schools are facing now. Because of this the schools would have the money to give the students a better education because many of them would have all the money they would need to fund themselves. Teachers would try harder; the schools could be updated with the latest technology and latest materials. In essence it would be like survival of the fittest for the schools, ...
