Analysis of The Frivolity of Evil Essay
Dalrymple s Thesis In his 2004 City Journal article, Theodore Dalrymple expresses his view on the
tremendous decline in the quality of life in Great Britain. He believed that society has accepted the
notion that people are not responsible for their own problems. Also, that it is the moral cowardice
of the intellectual and political elites that perpetuates the social dynamics that are responsible for
the continuing decline of British society. According to the author, a physician about to retire after a
career treating criminal justice offenders and victims, there are several pervasive misconceptions
that explain the continuing decline of British society. The first misconception claims that there is
the notion that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The following point is reinforced by detailing the dynamic between physicians and patients in
relation to the contemporary treatment of depression. He describes the doctor as an enabler who
stands as an obstacle. The said doctor prevents the patient s ability to understand that what we
typically refer to as depression, is nothing more than the predictable emotions associated with
unhappiness after making bad life choices. Dalrymple implies that physicians cannot help most of
their depressed patients without abandoning their profession s commitment to objective disinterest
in the voluntary choices of patients. In order to validate his third point, Dalrymple recounts some
of the examples of the direct causative relationship between bad choices made by patients (and
victims) he has encountered. Specifically, he explains how easily any person of reasonable
intelligence could have, and should have been able to avoid making the decisions that were
responsible for the situations precipitating their encounter with him in a clinical setting. They
include battered and abused women who continually choose exactly the kind of men who
obviously pose related risks, as well as irresponsible men and women who repeatedly

Comparing The Duality Of Human Nature In Alfred...
Alfred Hitchcock s horror film, Psycho, gives the audience insight on characters who display dual
personality traits. The audience gets to see changes occur within Norman and Marion throughout
the film. These two characters share nothing in common except for the fact that they are a capable
of being normal and committing crimes, showing that they have two different sides to themselves.
Hitchcock uses filmtechniques such as lighting, camera angles, and costume change to demonstrate
the duality of human nature. When the film first starts off, Marion Crane is shown lying on a bed
in her white underwear in a romantic scene along with her boyfriend Sam Loomis. The white she
is wearing represents her purity and her position on the bed tells us that she is the vulnerable one in
the scene. For a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film techniques portray her in a manner that does not suggest that she is in any way bad.
That is until she steals four thousand dollars. Hitchcock s techniques go along with portraying
the other side of Marion. She s seen wearing black instead of white and when she is driving to
get as far away as possible, suspenseful music plays to heighten the pressure of the scene. The
audience only gets to see the duality of Marion for a short time due to the fact that her life was cut
short, but her costume changes and music that is played along her devious escape allow the
audience to clearly see the change that occurs. The duality in Norman Bates can be seen in several
different ways. Hitchcock uses costume change, lighting, voice overs, camera angles and music to
represent the two sides of Norman Bates. One side of him is Norman himself, a childish grown
man, awkward, friendly, and creepy and the other side of him is

Bird Feeding Lab
In our bird feeding lab, we observed two feeding stations that was an open feeder surrounded
with a fall season, setting and a shelter feeder with a shrub environment. We observed each
feeding station where several birds flew and used up in the feeding tray like the white throat
sparrow or the blue jay. However, my group solely focused on the white throat sparrow and we
hypothesized that there is no relationship between looks and pecks within the feeding apparatus and
the alternative hypothesis is that there is a relationship between looks and pecks within the feeding
apparatus. After watching, recording and graphing and making out a statistical test, we came to the
end that the two tailed p values for open and closed feeders are less than

A Brief Note On The South West Coast Of India
1. Introduction:
The South West coast of India is very well known for its wetland systems, which are commonly
referred to as backwaters. The so called backwaters in Kerala cover a total area of 46128.94 ha
(Nandan, 2007). The more significant wetlands out of that are Vembanad, Sasthamcotta, and
Ashtamudi which are listed as Ramsar sites and have significant international priority (Ramsar sites
information service). The desire to travel to different destinations throughout the world to have new
experiences, sights and to learn about various cultures will be always on demand. This implies the
very true fact where the possibility for the tourism has wider potential and can be utilized to benefit
the country and its economy too. Backwater tourism in Kerala is benefited by plenty of hard
currencies coming through the foreign tourists. There are other major factors that government of
Kerala is keener in promoting the tourism. The state government project few of these issues such
as to eliminate poverty, to resolve the unemployment, and regional development as a path to the
economic growth of the state and the country as well. According to the Ministry of tourism
statistics, there is a significant increase in the arrival of tourist in India from 1.6 million in 1991 to
5.58 million in 2010 (Ministry of Tourism, Govt of India). This essay focuses on the potential
growth of backwater tourism in Kerala which is having negative impact on the ecosystem and local

Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach the complete works
Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach the complete works
This is the volume I of the Series II. It includes sixteen sonatas. Only one of them is
unaccmpaniment flute sonata, other fifteen pieces are wind and string instruments and basso
continuo. Excepts the manuscripts and the scores, this volume also contains three useful sections
which are an introduction, Abbreviations, and the critical report. The critical report is located on
the page one hundred and twenty seven to page one hundred and forty six.
First of all, the author described the detailed information about the composed years and historic
background. Even some of the pieces is hard to track the composed year, but the author still tried to
find out the evidences to figure out the years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other section of the commentary report is the commentary of the scores which are collected in
this book. The commentary is arranged in a really standard form, and the comments on performance
are quite helpful to the performers. For instance, the commentary of Sonanta in B flat Major for
Flute and Basso Continu, Wq,125 is located from the page one hundred and thirty six to page one
hundred and thirty seven. In the commentary, it mainly shows the measure numbers, part of the
voice, and remarks. For Measure number, it used the number to mark each specific measure. In the
part of the voice, fl means the voice of the flute, and b.c. means the voice of the basso continuo. In
the section of remarks, it contains very detailed comments on the performance. Even it points out
the version that it follows.
As I have tried out all the comments on this piece, I found that the changes make music sound more
interesting and artistic. For instance, the Sonata in B flat major for flute and Basso continuous
second movement Allegro. In the third measure, it suggests the note 2 changed from F to A. After
this changing, the melody of flute sounds more interesting. In the measure six, it suggests moving
the slur from notes 3 4 for notes 2 4. That lets the melody skip a minor third and sounds more stable
in the beginning section than the original one. In the measure twenty seven,

The Debate Between Pro Choice And Pro Life
Abortion The debate between pro choice and pro life has gone on for numerous years. Using
medical technology medical staff and mothers are able to see what happens to the unborn child
during the abortion process. A mother can see the image of her unborn child; abortion should be
illegal because the unborn child feels pain, there can be medical complications to the mother and
alternatives do exist.
Women are now able to see inside of the mother s womb and see the unborn child s heartbeat and
sex of the child. This is done by ultra sound (US) technology and can be seen in 2 D, 3 D and 4
D it is even possible to see the child in color. The mother can see the living child inside her. The
ultra sound serves as a window to the womb (Boucher 2004). Pro life supporters have showmen the
US picture and movies of the unborn child to women who are planning to abort their pregnancy and
stated that 90% of women have changed their minds. First trimester abortions account for 88.4%
of the USA and 73% in Canada. However, the US that is being shown is in the second trimester
(Wiebe, Adams 2009) to be able to see the growth of the unborn child.
Many states now require that a woman who is going to have an abortion view an US prior to the
abortion. In a survey that was conducted many women felt that viewing the US was a positive
experience even though some still chose to go through with an abortion. Patients have stated that
seeing the US was helpful, but the US images needed

The Theory Of Social Control Theory
Introduction History Socialization is the relationship people have to important social processes,
which includes education, family and peer relations (Siegel, 2015). Proper socialization leads to
conformity, while improper socialization leads to nonconformity. Both theories are traced from the
Sociological Criminology. Sociological Criminology was developed by Emile Durkheim in which
he thought crimehad a relation to social and environmental factors. According to Siegel (2105),
Durkheim thought that crime was normal because it is virtually impossible to imagine a society in
which criminal behavior is absent (p.11). Social control is a sub theory of Social process theory.
Social process theory focuses its attention on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second is a commitment, meaning that a lack of commitment towards morels and social laws can
lead to deviant behavior. Third bond that must be made is involvement. Hirschi believed that an
individual who participated in positive activities would not have the time to commit criminal acts.
The fourth and final bond that must be made is belief. When a person does not live in an area that
holds the same values or when they believes the law is unfair, one tends to rebel and commit
criminal acts. All individuals are potential law violators but there are ways to help lessen that
potential. Individuals who are kept under control by relationships with friends, family, education
and employment can help lead to a happy and healthy lifestyle. The social control theory explains
the possibilities on preventing delinquency behavior. If young people have strong and positive
attachments towards parents, teachers and friends, it helps them experience a happier lifestyle
(Siegel, 2015). Love, care and respect youth hold for parents are quite strong, therefore they don t
want to hurt or disappoint their loved ones. The commitment to education, careers and family is
also important because they have too much to lose if they get involved in criminal behaviors.
Being involved in productive activities such as participating in after school programs can limit their
time to engage in bad

Traditional Surrogacy And Gestational Surrogacy
HOW
Surrogacy is the arrangement of a birth of a child when the parents are not actually childbearing.
This involves a legal agreement between the surrogate and parents, that puts the child under the
care of the parents immediately after birth. The surrogate has no legal ties to the baby and formally
renounces her rights as a parent to the child. There are many different types of surrogacy and ways
in which one can do this procedure. Traditional surrogacy and gestational surrogacy are two of
the most popular and well known forms of surrogacy. Traditional uses intrauterine insemination
to implant the biological father s sperm into the egg of the surrogate. This procedure is typically
used when the mother s eggs or father s sperm is no longer viable. Also, this procedure is less
expensive and complex than in vitro fertilization. This procedure allows the father of the child to
be the biological sperm donor, and feel possessive over his kin. Due to the genetic relation of the
baby to the surrogate mother in this situation, the surrogate is often a relative or friend of the
parents. This can make matters more complex if there is a disagreement during the pregnancy or
after the baby is born. Although, this way the baby is still biologically related to the father and
possibly the mother, if a family member becomes their surrogate. The first legal case of
surrogacy was in 1970 with a baby by the title of, baby M. The lawyer who arranged the baby and
mother went on to develop

The Adventure Of The Second Stain Analysis
Though perhaps not one of the more popular stories in the series, The Adventure of the Second
Stain is just as literarily significant and interesting as any other Sherlock Holmes story, perhaps
even more so. With a storyline that twists and turns, this fast paced adventure is a worthy addition
to any collection of mystery fiction, and is certainly enjoyable to read. The story begins with a
brief introduction from Watson, a characteristic common to a great number of the Sherlock stories.
In this introduction, however, Watson explains that The Abbey Grange was meant to be the last of
Holmes published stories, and that the one to follow is sort of a bonus. Even this detail lends a
feeling that the story will be unique and outside of the ordinary in some way, as Watson would not
otherwise share it with the audience. This story, in typical Holmesian fashion, blends a story of
grave importance with its own distinct witticisms and humour, primarily demonstrated in Sherlock
s interactions with Watson and others involved. Another feature established in The Second Stain is
Holmes tendency to lean towards a chaotic good standpoint; In other words, his moral compass may
differ from that of others, and his methods may be unpredictable and untraditional, but he always
strives to achieve justice and to maintain the virtue of innocents. In this story specifically, Holmes
recovers the letter and stops and possible conflicts, but also ensures that Mrs. Hope remains
innocent and above

Essay on The Arab-Israeli Conflict
There were many factors which contributed to the wars between the Arabs and Israelis in 1956,
1967 and 1973. One of which was President Nasser s personality.
In the 1950 s a new president, Gamal Abdul Nasser, came to power in Egypt. President Nasser had
a very strong and determined character and was very eager to get revenge on the Israelis for the
1948 war, which Egypt lost. President Nasser wanted to get Palestine back into the Arab control
and to do this he had to unite the Arab world under his control. In order to get what he wanted
Nasser needed money and arms.
Czechoslovakia was giving aid in the form of money and weaponry to the Egyptians. The reason
they did this was because they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
President Nasser also persuaded King Hussein of Jordan to help the Fedayeen by allowing them to
go through Jordanian territory, to carry out their attacks.
The west were frightened of losing their influence in the Middle East and thus they, along with
Israel, decided to make a joint attack on Egypt.
This factor therefore led to great conflicts between the Arabs and Israelis.
b) Choose one factor which you think was the most important in causing the war. (9 marks)
From the list of factors given, I consider that the Russian foreign policy was the most important in
causing the wars in 1956, 1967 and 1973 between the Arab s and Israelis.
During the Arab Israeli conflict, the world s two greatest super powers , USA and the USSR
were in a cold war against each other. Since they were bitter enemies, it is evident that once the
USSR found out that the USA were helping Israel in the war, it decided to help the Arabs in rivalry.
The Suez Sinai war in 1956 was when the USSR first helped the Arabs by providing them with
military arms and equipment. Since Czechoslovakia was under the influence of the USSR and it
was the main country to provide the Arab world with fighter planes, warships, bombers, tanks and
guns, it was seen as though the USSR were directly providing help for the Arabs. It can be seen
that without all the USSR s military

High Consumption Of Junk Food Essay
Introduction:
Obesity affects more than 640 million people globally. In addition, the world s population becomes
over 3 pounds heavier each decade (Encarnação et al., 2016). According to a global study
conducted by several public health professors in London, England, by 2025, 18% of men and 21%
of women will become obese (Encarnação et al., 2016). All over the world, individuals are
consuming large amounts of foods high in salt, fat and sugar due to low costs and easy
accessibility. High consumption of junk food is detrimental to human health and has resulted in the
consideration of junk food taxes all over the world in order to defeat the current obesity epidemic
(Encarnação et al., 2016). Governments all over the world should tax foods and beverages that
are high in fat, simple sugars and salt because obesity is a rising global issue and junk food taxes
will help to decrease obesity rates, reduce disease and raise revenue, which will ultimately result in
a healthier and happier generation of people.
Arguments for your position:
First of all, taxing foods high in fat, simple sugars and salt will reduce obesity rates significantly.
Secondly, the taxation of junk food will help reduce disease, which will lead to increased health
and happiness of todays generation of people.
Lastly, taxing junk food will lead to a rise in revenue, which will contribute to the health and
happiness of individuals and reduce the rising global issue of obesity.
Although junk food taxes have

History Of Political Correctness In The United States
Political Correctness in the United States started with respectful origins; however in recent years,
this noble cause has taken a less than honorable turn for the worse. It s origins in the U.S. started
sometime in the late 1970s on college campuses, in an effort bring about a politeness between
people. Sometime in the 90 s, its intended use morphed into what we see today, a way to
marginalize someone with a different idea. Muscoreil (2013) claims it was neither a social
movement nor a coherent political platform but rather a tendency among governing bodies,
especially in academic institutions, to police the spoken, written, or implied beliefs of those with
whom they disagreed. If we continue down this course, the experiment we call being... Show more

That s where we are today, Henley (1999) states in the current climate of political correctness, it is
expected that the dominant culture collectively accepts the blame for minority misfortunes. Just
because a topic may be unpleasant, that doesn t necessarily make it wrong. We can t ignore
important issues we face as a society just on the basis they might offend someone, ignoring it
doesn t make it go away and certainly doesn t make it better. It s not only hindering us when we
approach current and past issues, it s gotten to point where college professors are not using certain
literature because they don t like the author. In the view of Curtler (2009) Born of genuine
humanitarian impulses, it now threatens to devour much of what is greatest in our literature and
forever separate the children of our culture from what is essential to their humanity. We can address
issues with the sensitivity needed, however when we limit the conversation for fear of offense we

Guatemala is home to a centuries old weaving tradition through which indigenous women assert a
sense of belongingness to family and community. The women and their families are descendants
of the ancient Maya Indians, and the tools of their trade are cotton yarn, the backstrap loom, and
time proven patterns and techniques. Each village and region is identifiable for its own weaving
design and colors. Techniques and designs are passed from mother to daughter and traditional
clothes are still preferred by most. Some believe that the different patterns existed before the
Spaniards arrived. Others believe they were brought from Europe. It is known that the
conquistadors used the clothing to label people and control the populations. The traditional
technique was to wrap the threads on a warping board, and then mount them on back strap loom
where a panel was woven. Panels were decorated with brocade designs depending on the textile
tradition of the weaver s community as well as her personal taste and skills. Finally, the woven
panels were sewn together to make a garment (Guatemalan Culture).

description of the setting and description of Grenouille s characteristics. Grenouille was born in

tragedy and chaos where foul smells were everywhere. Moreover, Grenouille being born in a fish

Grenouille is further conveyed as a victim of social decay when upper class supposedly high
ranked and highly respected people are portrayed as fools and almost idiots. Through Comic
Irony Father Terrier is seen as an uneducated fool and childish when using the phrase
poohpeedooh . The repetition of this phrase further illustrates the foolish nature of a highly
respected person showing social decay. Moreover, presenting the upper class in France as silly
and foolish shows the decay of society and how even foolish people such as Father Terrier are
respected and looked up to making Grenouille a victim to this social decay as well as an outsider
as he does not respect these foolish upper class people and does not follow the demands of
society. Similarly, Grenouille is again seen as an outsider when society refuses to accept him.
His mother leaves him to die in a pile of fish guts and many others refuse to take him in, leaving
him as an unwanted outsider. Again this foreshadows his future actions of violence and murder
when society rejects him and many people act on their basic instincts and leave him to die
suggesting a sense of evil in him. Grenouille is further shown as an outsider when he is described
to have a lack of scent . This lack of scent clearly shows he

Emollient Agents Make Our Skin Smoother Essay
Emollients
Emollients are agents that soften and make the skin smoother. They are also called moisturizers.
Emollients are used for dry skin or eczema. When a moisturizer is applied to skin, it covers the
skin with a protective layer that reduces the amount of water loss in the skin and prevents dryness.
Emollients also prevent the skin form itching and eczema from flaring up.
Are emollients, emulsifiers, and lotions polar or non polar?
Most lotions contain oil or other non polar ingredients. They also contain large quantities of water
which is polar. The oil in the lotion is emulsified so it can be mixed with the water. But, both
ingredients still remain in the lotion which makes it both polar and non polar. Emulsifiers are used

Many people buy lotions thinking that it has special ingredients that will help moisturize their skin,
but in fact water is the widely held ingredient in hand lotions.
Oil: oil is another important ingredient in hand lotions. Some lotions use liquid oils and others use
solid oils or butters. Avocado, coconut, Shea, and olive oils are some of the most popular oils used
in lotions.
Glycerin: it is also known as a humectant. It attracts moisture from the air to the skin and it is also
used as a lubricant to make the lotion smooth.
Citric acid: this is used as a preservative to prevent the other ingredients from spoiling. Citric acid
also helps lower the PH of the lotion and it makes it more suitable for the different skin types.
Other ingredients that are used are scents, color, etc.
How do hand lotions work?
When hand lotion is applied, it creates a barrier on the skin that prevents the oils from escaping and
does not allow any harmful substance to enter the skin that can cause dryness or irritation. It also
blocks water from leaving the skin and attracts water, this helps to maintain moisture in the skin.
The purpose of hand lotions
There are hand creams designed for different purposes. Most people use hand lotions for dry skin,
usually in the winter time. Lotions soften the hand and it looks more visually appealing. Some
people use lotions because they have eczema, and lotion prevents it from flaring up. Others may use

Great Leap Forward Summary
10. Diamond characterizes the Great Leap Forward as the stage in human development when
humans became seemingly more modern and more similar, biologically and behaviorally, to the
human today. This leap occurred around 50,000 years ago, the signs being standardized tools,
preserved jewelry, and the completely modern skeletons of the Cro Magnon.
11. The major human achievements that characterize the Great Leap Forward can be defined by
the first ever preserved jewelry and methodized tools made out of stone. Other major human
achievements at this time included complex weaponry that could kill from a secure distance, much
like the mechanics of the weaponry we have and still use in battle today. The most marvelous as
well as most known achievement of the Cro Magnons would have to be their artwork though, due
to its wondrous beauty in the eyes of many.

Diamond proposes the theory that the disappearance of mega fauna in Australia/New Guinea was
due to human interaction. The animals of Australia and New Guinea had not yet been introduced to
humans, eliminating the chance of coevolution. They became extinct in every habitat without
exception...the giants were indeed exterminated by humans, both directly (by being killed for food)
and indirectly (as a result of fires and habitat modification caused by humans). It seems that
Diamond primarily believed that the extinction of the many mega fauna was entirely the fault of the
humans and not at all because of the animals changing habitat. Due to the fact that the mega fauna
of Australia and New Guinea were not prepared for the arrival of humans, they were successfully
hunted to the ultimate death:

Lady Macbeth Influence

and Lady Macbeth put their plan to action. Macbeth goes past the guards that are asleep outside
King Duncan s room, and kills King Duncan, but Macbeth comes out the room with the weapon
that he used to kill Duncan. Lady Macbeth shouts at Macbeth, Infirm of purpose! Give me the

guards with blood to make it look like they killed the King. Macbeth was too afraid to go back

Ragtime by E.L. Doctorow
Throughout the past couple of centuries the human narrative has been increasingly presented in
terms of acceleration in a phenomenon testifying to what can be termed the ecstasy of speed.
Novels tend to create societal themes and expressions of progress that change and explode within
texts. Uses of world and historical acceleration are overarchingly some of the most easily arrived at
examples of the ectasy of speed. E.L. Doctorow s novel Ragtime, which has been adapted into a
stage production as well, stands as an example of precisely this sort of text. There is the question of
the association of the cultural, historical, and fictional characteristics of Ragtimethat critic Brian
Roberts has called the central metaphor of the novel. When put together with the cohesive historical
narrative within the novel, the discussion reveals the ways in which Doctorow uses Ragtime to
perform a work that mirrors the ups and downs of the classic ragtime style of music. Doctorow
does this through the introduction of a distinctive way of reading history which is vitally
deconstructive and politically charged.
When a curious soul looks for critical material available on Ragtime they are sure to find materials
that focus on the relationship between the form and the theme of the novel at its core. The novel
can be characterized as historical fiction. Although it takes on the style of historical fiction it
ultimately challenges what the reader believes to be true about history and

According to Yasser Ali (2015) when the high intensity exercises are completed, the amino acid
levels in the muscles are at their lowest for 4 6 hours after training. The body needs more than 24
hours to restore the content it was before training, and the protein works as a catalyst for the
performance of athletes where he plays an important role in increasing glycogen storage in the liver,
which have a helper effect in carrying increased training intensity. (21:55)
Anthony Barnett (2008) asserts that oxygen is very vital for the growth and regeneration of all

Sacrifice In Twilight
In accordance with a renowned statement that is reference by Stephenie Meyers from the novel
Twilight, happens to entitle an astonishing significance to the novel itself. Furthermore, the
statement on page 1, from Meyers in Twilight (said by Bella Swan), states as follows, Surely it
was a good way to die, in the place of someone else, someone I loved. Noble, even. That ought to
count for something. In other words, this statement would be a great example of the true meaning
of sacrifice. Sacrifice that is being willing to lose something or someone for the sake of others

The Great Chilean Earthquake And Its Impact On Earth
Earthquakes have been around for longer than humans have roamed the Earth. Even though humans
haven t been around to record all earthquakes, they have been around to record many significant
ones in the past that have done damages to not only civilizations, but human lives and even the
economy. A prime example of an earthquakethat wreaked havoc on Earth was the Great Chilean
Earthquake. This was the world s largest ever recorded earthquake which had a magnitude of 9.5
that hit near Valdivia, Chile on May 22, 1960 at 19:11. This was the largest earthquake of the 20th
century that triggered large tsunamis to occur all through the Pacific Ocean Basin. This earthquake
destroyed large amounts of buildings, killed many people, and had a significant impact on the
economy. The Great Chilean Earthquake was what scientists call a Megathrust earthquake.
Megathrust earthquakes occur at subduction zones at destructive convergent boundaries and are the
most powerful earthquakes in the world that can generally create tsunamis (Subduction Zone:
TsunamiGenerated by Megathrust Earthquake n.d.). This megathrust earthquake occurred where
the Nazca Plate is subducting underneath the South American Plate and in doing so it produced a
500 mile long rupture zone from Talca, Chile to the Chiloe Archipelago (World s Largest Recorded
Earthquake, n.d.). The Nazca Plate and South American Plate are an example of ocean continent

One big problem with modern day technology, is that it is affecting our sleep. Most of us
technophile teens are used to falling to sleep with TV s light flickering a show to soothe us into

Technology has become increasingly globalized and is now a key utility that is both easily
accessible and convenient in daily life. With the added perpetual use of the Internet, many people

!!!Do You Believe That?
Have you ever heard a story so crazy you cannot believe it? We have all heard the news stories of
people performing superhuman feats out of a need to survive or to save themselves or someone
they love. A wife comes home, and finds her husband trapped under a car. She lifts the car off of
him to save his life, but she can barely lift a bag of groceries. A father races to push his child out
of the way of a speeding car, and rolls with them into a ditch, but is slow and overweight. Sisters
swim for hours in shark infested waters through a storm in the ocean, and they survive with no
lasting injuries. This is the same idea behind __ Life of Pi __, a novel about a young boy and his
survival after a shipwreck, with a Bengal tiger, no less! The author behind this book, __Yann
Martel__, is a talented writer that has devoted his life to crafting stories that take interesting paths
en route to the truth.

Yann Martel was born in 1963 in Spain to Canadian parents who were part of the diplomatic

The Pros And Cons Of The Holy Supper
INTRODUCTION
Not one religion in the world has views and doctrines that completely agrees with any other religion,
and this explains why there are thousands of different religions practicing thousands of different
religious practices.
The Holy Supper, also called the Last Supper, the Lord s Supper, and many other names, is
practiced all over the world by different Christian groups. It is the last supper shared by Jesus
Christ and His disciples, on the night before His execution on the cross. And as expected, the
differences in the interpretation of the Bible have led to practices relating to the Holy Supper
being performed in a variety of ways, and an equally wide variety of views relating to it.
Mat. 26:26 28 (NIV) reads:

According to some Eucharistic theologians, the history of the Catholic practice of the Holy Supper
can be summarized into six points. (Ossory)
A.From Passover to Eucharist
The first Eucharist was observed by Jesus and His apostles. Jesus started with a praise in the form
of a psalm, took the bread, gave thanks, and followed with his new words. He gave the bread for
his disciples to eat. At the end of the meal, He took the cup, filled it with wine and followed
again with his new words. He gave the cup for his disciples to drink from. He instructed his
disciples to do this in remembrance of Him. (Mat. 26 26:28).
B.From Meal to Worship
By the year 150 A.D., a Catholic saint named Justin Martyr tells of the structure of the Catholic
mass:
In place of the meal the early Christians created a Liturgy of the Word somewhat that included
readings from Scripture, singing of psalms and an instruction. Around the words of institution they
added prayers of thanksgiving, praise and intercession... These Eucharist celebrations were held in
people s homes up until the year 313. On Sunday there were two readings by a lector, a homily by
the priest, then the Eucharistic Prayer and the distribution of

With six children and four adults spending all day on one confined houseboat, it was less than

Masculinity In Shakespeare s Time
Masculinity is not something given to you, but something you gain. And you gain it by winning
small battles with honor (Mailer, n.d). This quote by Norman Mailer faultlessly describes
masculinity in a way that should be considered and reflected on by the majority of people in our
society today. Masculinity may be difficult to understand, but as humans, we have the access and
ability to discover and examine all the possible meanings of masculinityby different scholars,
academics, peers and even through theatre to discover the true meaning of such ideologies we
choose to identify ourselves with. William Shakespeare is an extremely perceptive and suggestive
author who is rich in his writing. Although Shakespeare s writing is not solely a dialogue on
women s studies, it does nonetheless share and consists of issues in women s studies and gender
ideology. Not only does Shakespeare reflect, he occasionally supports the English Renaissance

However, when reflecting upon the character Orsino, one may begin to question this. A significant
attribute that exemplified masculinity was the Renaissance Beard. Sexual differences and
appearances in the early modern period have differed significantly in society s matters of these

made the man (Fisher, 2009). The array of male features and prosthetic body parts such as the
genitals can definitely distinguish the differences between male and female, however, in the
Renaissance period, something as simple as the growth of a beard will signify manhood. Therefore,

Textual Analysis Of 12 Angry Men
Although 12 Angry Men was produced in the late fifties it s still a great movie for any viewer to
watch. The film s intensifying conflict does not meet a twenty first century viewer s expectations
such as special effects and character development. However, it is interesting to consider how the
film has incorporated elements like coherent scenes and background music into its production. This
film provides a detailed dialogue of the characters along with character development which entices
the viewer throughout its duration.
This courthouse drama has assigned twelve men to jury duty. The viewer will find this murder case
mystifying by the underlying theme of prejudice. Although the film lacks in special effects and
providing a picturesque setting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All the characters have a different opinion, which requires them all to have an opposing
viewpoint. The characters use of actions is what interests the viewer as they present their
thought on what occurred during this murder. If it s not the fury from juror three then we are
following the calm, rational juror eight. As juror three raises his voice and has one of his many
mood altering moments, we are afraid that he might lose his sanity. The acting in this film goes
much further than the character s mood, a great use of acting is in the reenactment scene of
how the weapon entered the victim. As juror three takes the knife and holds it over one of the
fellow jurors and makes the motion of stabbing him we are certain this man has lost control and
let his anger take over. However, we are surprised when he stops right before contacting the other
man s body. 12 Angry Men not only has suspenseful scenes that add to the overall movie, but it
also has the emotional development that makes this film magnificent. In the closing scene, after
all men have agreed to pardon the defendant, juror three finally reaches an emotional breaking
point; however, it is not the way we anticipated. As all the other men exit the room, he is left
weeping at the table over the loss of his son. In a surprising moment, juror eight sets aside the last
few hours of fury between them and offers support to this man. While 12 Angry Men excels in
acting

The Malaysian advertising landscape is gradually shifting its traditional media forms to the

Hip Hop Is Dead Essay
Hip hop music contains more than just empty meanings; it can educate, motivate and encourage. In
addition, it possesses the power to inform one about current technology and urban life.
Nevertheless, since the start of the 21st century, hip hop has lost its originality by focusing on
topics such as sex, money, and drugs, rather than its original roots which educated on meaningful
issues such as racism, police brutality, and segregation. A good example of this would be Tupac
Shakur s song Changes.
And still I see no changes, can t a brother get a little peace It s war on the streets and a war in the
Middle East Instead of war on poverty They got a war on drugs so the police can bother me and I

For example, in early times of hip hop style, the fashions included personalized crew neck
sweatshirts, Converse sneakers, Kangol bucket hats, name buckles, sunglasses, oversized baggy
jeans and boots by Timberland (Samuels). In the music industry popularity and trends are a primary
means of profit. Contrary to popular belief, radio formats are selected for their estimated ability to
accumulate profit, rather than just to present music (Rothenbuhler). Today s hip hop music has a
negative outlook that focuses on criminal lifestyles and hardcore rap which started with the music
group NWA (Niggas with Attitude). Their albums were a success of the hardcore image, and in
turn, the music industry capitalized on this hardcore rap. A song by NWA called Gangster states.

Child Development Explanations And Understanding
Child development explanations and understanding is a complicated process and it is hard
deciding the right process to use with each child. Many individuals and doctors have their own
way of thinking how the body and mind develops. Their ideas have no right or wrong answers
and are mere guesses of human growth. No one idea can be applied directly to a person, without
looking at another idea also. To prove these explanations of psychology, scientific methods are
used. Teachers may use all patterns of ideas in their lesson planning for children.
Teachers choose what ideas to apply in the classroom by what is best proven, and what is in the
best interest of the child. They must also look at what has been effective in their teaching in the
past. If the idea does not work, then it should be removed from the class, replaced or changed.
Each idea has their strong points as well as their weak ones. To avoid the extreme differences in
psychology opinions of the ideas you must use the common methods offered. It is hard for
teachers to apply one idea to different children, this is due to the fact that none of use grow up the
exact same way. For children to have the chance of becoming who and what they want, we must
not put all of them in the same box, this is to keep choice free in life. To summarize it definitely
helps when you understand the great philosophers and their processes.
Theorist Jean Piaget, believed that individuals add and change their points of view of

The Hippocratic Oath, By Atul Gawande
Medicine is a science of healing, but also an art. It takes intelligence in the sciences as well as
precise skill in the art of medicine to heal successfully. In the Hippocratic Oath, Hippocrates
highlights the importance of passing on the tradition of practicing medicine, maintaining respect for
patients, and preserving humility within themselves. Modern day practice of this oath involve
patient s stories. Rita Charon in her article What to do with Stories? The sciences of Narrative
Medicine, explores narrative writing and how to use it as a tool in healing patients. While Charon
focuses on the writing of these stories, Atul Gawande s book Being Mortal reflects on how to make
more meaningful endings out of the stories of patients who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

After ensuring the preservation of medicinal practices and knowledge, the consequences of it are
realized through guiding ideas. The Hippocratic Oath affirms, I will keep [my patients] from harm
and injustice. Doctors swear by contributing to the wellbeing of patients, ignoring the various
personal effects of ego, sexual interest and human tendency to gossip. Doctors must be able to
admit to inability in order to make sound judgements. This would mean diagnosis to the best of
their ability, and nothing beyond their ability: I will apply dietetic measures for the benefit of the
sick according to my ability and judgment (Hippocrates). The oath calls on doctors not to abuse
their societal power or fall prey to their desires: I will come for the benefit of the sick, remaining
free of all intentional injustice, of all mischief and in particular of sexual relations (Hippocrates).
The oath further protects the patient s emotional wellbeing by restricting the doctor from
disclosing details surrounding the patient s physical condition. The oath makes clear, What I may
see or hear in the course of the treatment or even outside of the treatment in regard to the life of
men, which on no account one must spread abroad, I will keep to myself, holding such things
shameful to be spoken about (Hippocrates). With the words In purity and holiness I will guard my

The Importance Of Outside And Non Associating Scientists...
1.The hiring of outside and non associating scientists with recognition in a particular field to
perform the research to assure the safety of a specific product or processes. These services can be
hired to generate controversy about a competing product and debate with scientists and regulatory
bodies on the side effects of dangers of a product. For e.g. pharmaceutical and chemical companies
used this tactic for drugs and household chemicals marketing.
2.The selection and formation of so called front groups of third party scientists/ experts to support
the scientific position of claims made by the scientists of particular companies. The example of
scientific advisory boards or SABs is normally used to defend the companies in court cases and in
general public claims.
3.The creation and utilization of industry groups or associations, including the associations and
organization for an industry, think tanks, and public opinion organizations assist the companies in
proving the claims of companies to be legitimate.
4.The use of media and PR agencies to create and change opinions of general public. For instance,
the development of VNRs or video news releases is relatively a new technique of PR firms used to
relay videos of company claims about products and / or services in easily downloadable formats
like videos shared on YouTube. These videos are available on common media as well in form of
paid segments and public associated the content with the news releases

beautiful city of Verona, where our story takes place, a long standing hatred between two families

America s First Income Tax Law
The nation had few taxes in its early history. From 1791 to 1802, the United States government
was supported by internal taxes on distilled spirits, carriages, refined sugar, tobacco and snuff,
property sold at auction, corporate bonds, and slaves. The high cost of the War of 1812 brought
about the nation s first sales taxes on gold, silverware, jewelry, and watches. In 1817, however,
Congress did away with all internal taxes, relying on tariffs on imported goods to provide sufficient
funds for running the government.
In 1862, in order to support the Civil War effort, Congress enacted the nation s first income taxlaw.
It was a forerunner of our modern income tax in that it was based on the principles of graduated, or
progressive, taxation and of withholding income at the source. During the Civil War, a person
earning from $600 to $10,000 per year paid tax at the rate of 3%. Those with incomes of more
than $10,000 paid taxes at a higher rate. Additional sales and excise taxes were added, and an
inheritance tax also made its debut. In 1866, internal revenue collections reached their highest point
in the nation s 90 year history more than $310 million, an amount not reached again until 1911.
The Act of 1862 established the office of Commissioner of Internal Revenue. The Commissioner
was given the power to assess, levy, and collect taxes, and the right to enforce the tax laws through
seizure of property and income and through prosecution. The powers and authority remain

  • 2. Analysis of The Frivolity of Evil Essay Dalrymple s Thesis In his 2004 City Journal article, Theodore Dalrymple expresses his view on the tremendous decline in the quality of life in Great Britain. He believed that society has accepted the notion that people are not responsible for their own problems. Also, that it is the moral cowardice of the intellectual and political elites that perpetuates the social dynamics that are responsible for the continuing decline of British society. According to the author, a physician about to retire after a career treating criminal justice offenders and victims, there are several pervasive misconceptions that explain the continuing decline of British society. The first misconception claims that there is the notion that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The following point is reinforced by detailing the dynamic between physicians and patients in relation to the contemporary treatment of depression. He describes the doctor as an enabler who stands as an obstacle. The said doctor prevents the patient s ability to understand that what we typically refer to as depression, is nothing more than the predictable emotions associated with unhappiness after making bad life choices. Dalrymple implies that physicians cannot help most of their depressed patients without abandoning their profession s commitment to objective disinterest in the voluntary choices of patients. In order to validate his third point, Dalrymple recounts some of the examples of the direct causative relationship between bad choices made by patients (and victims) he has encountered. Specifically, he explains how easily any person of reasonable intelligence could have, and should have been able to avoid making the decisions that were responsible for the situations precipitating their encounter with him in a clinical setting. They include battered and abused women who continually choose exactly the kind of men who obviously pose related risks, as well as irresponsible men and women who repeatedly ... • 3. Comparing The Duality Of Human Nature In Alfred... Alfred Hitchcock s horror film, Psycho, gives the audience insight on characters who display dual personality traits. The audience gets to see changes occur within Norman and Marion throughout the film. These two characters share nothing in common except for the fact that they are a capable of being normal and committing crimes, showing that they have two different sides to themselves. Hitchcock uses filmtechniques such as lighting, camera angles, and costume change to demonstrate the duality of human nature. When the film first starts off, Marion Crane is shown lying on a bed in her white underwear in a romantic scene along with her boyfriend Sam Loomis. The white she is wearing represents her purity and her position on the bed tells us that she is the vulnerable one in the scene. For a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The film techniques portray her in a manner that does not suggest that she is in any way bad. That is until she steals four thousand dollars. Hitchcock s techniques go along with portraying the other side of Marion. Using medical technology medical staff and mothers are able to see what happens to the unborn child during the abortion process. A mother can see the image of her unborn child; abortion should be illegal because the unborn child feels pain, there can be medical complications to the mother and alternatives do exist. Women are now able to see inside of the mother s womb and see the unborn child s heartbeat and sex of the child. This is done by ultra sound (US) technology and can be seen in 2 D, 3 D and 4 D it is even possible to see the child in color. The mother can see the living child inside her. The ultra sound serves as a window to the womb (Boucher 2004). Pro life supporters have showmen the US picture and movies of the unborn child to women who are planning to abort their pregnancy and stated that 90% of women have changed their minds. First trimester abortions account for 88.4% of the USA and 73% in Canada. However, the US that is being shown is in the second trimester (Wiebe, Adams 2009) to be able to see the growth of the unborn child. • 8. The Theory Of Social Control Theory Introduction History Socialization is the relationship people have to important social processes, which includes education, family and peer relations (Siegel, 2015). Proper socialization leads to conformity, while improper socialization leads to nonconformity. Both theories are traced from the Sociological Criminology. Sociological Criminology was developed by Emile Durkheim in which he thought crimehad a relation to social and environmental factors. According to Siegel (2105), Durkheim thought that crime was normal because it is virtually impossible to imagine a society in which criminal behavior is absent (p.11). Second is a commitment, meaning that a lack of commitment towards morels and social laws can lead to deviant behavior. Third bond that must be made is involvement. Hirschi believed that an individual who participated in positive activities would not have the time to commit criminal acts. The fourth and final bond that must be made is belief. When a person does not live in an area that holds the same values or when they believes the law is unfair, one tends to rebel and commit criminal acts. All individuals are potential law violators but there are ways to help lessen that potential. Individuals who are kept under control by relationships with friends, family, education and employment can help lead to a happy and healthy lifestyle. The social control theory explains the possibilities on preventing delinquency behavior. If young people have strong and positive attachments towards parents, teachers and friends, it helps them experience a happier lifestyle (Siegel, 2015). Love, care and respect youth hold for parents are quite strong, therefore they don t want to hurt or disappoint their loved ones. • 9. Traditional Surrogacy And Gestational Surrogacy HOW Surrogacy is the arrangement of a birth of a child when the parents are not actually childbearing. This involves a legal agreement between the surrogate and parents, that puts the child under the care of the parents immediately after birth. The surrogate has no legal ties to the baby and formally renounces her rights as a parent to the child. There are many different types of surrogacy and ways in which one can do this procedure. Traditional surrogacy and gestational surrogacy are two of the most popular and well known forms of surrogacy. Traditional uses intrauterine insemination to implant the biological father s sperm into the egg of the surrogate. This procedure is typically used when the mother s eggs or father s sperm is no longer viable. Also, this procedure is less expensive and complex than in vitro fertilization. This procedure allows the father of the child to be the biological sperm donor, and feel possessive over his kin. Due to the genetic relation of the baby to the surrogate mother in this situation, the surrogate is often a relative or friend of the parents. This can make matters more complex if there is a disagreement during the pregnancy or after the baby is born. Although, this way the baby is still biologically related to the father and possibly the mother, if a family member becomes their surrogate. The first legal case of surrogacy was in 1970 with a baby by the title of, baby M. The lawyer who arranged the baby and mother went on to develop ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Adventure Of The Second Stain Analysis Though perhaps not one of the more popular stories in the series, The Adventure of the Second Stain is just as literarily significant and interesting as any other Sherlock Holmes story, perhaps even more so. With a storyline that twists and turns, this fast paced adventure is a worthy addition to any collection of mystery fiction, and is certainly enjoyable to read. The story begins with a brief introduction from Watson, a characteristic common to a great number of the Sherlock stories. In this introduction, however, Watson explains that The Abbey Grange was meant to be the last of Holmes published stories, and that the one to follow is sort of a bonus. Even this detail lends a feeling that the story will be unique and outside of the ordinary in some way, as Watson would not otherwise share it with the audience. This story, in typical Holmesian fashion, blends a story of grave importance with its own distinct witticisms and humour, primarily demonstrated in Sherlock s interactions with Watson and others involved. Another feature established in The Second Stain is Holmes tendency to lean towards a chaotic good standpoint; In other words, his moral compass may differ from that of others, and his methods may be unpredictable and untraditional, but he always strives to achieve justice and to maintain the virtue of innocents. During the Arab Israeli conflict, the world s two greatest super powers , USA and the USSR were in a cold war against each other. Since they were bitter enemies, it is evident that once the USSR found out that the USA were helping Israel in the war, it decided to help the Arabs in rivalry. The Suez Sinai war in 1956 was when the USSR first helped the Arabs by providing them with military arms and equipment. The major human achievements that characterize the Great Leap Forward can be defined by the first ever preserved jewelry and methodized tools made out of stone. Other major human achievements at this time included complex weaponry that could kill from a secure distance, much like the mechanics of the weaponry we have and still use in battle today. The most marvelous as well as most known achievement of the Cro Magnons would have to be their artwork though, due to its wondrous beauty in the eyes of many. 12. Uses of world and historical acceleration are overarchingly some of the most easily arrived at examples of the ectasy of speed. E.L. There is the question of the association of the cultural, historical, and fictional characteristics of Ragtimethat critic Brian Roberts has called the central metaphor of the novel. When put together with the cohesive historical narrative within the novel, the discussion reveals the ways in which Doctorow uses Ragtime to perform a work that mirrors the ups and downs of the classic ragtime style of music. Doctorow does this through the introduction of a distinctive way of reading history which is vitally deconstructive and politically charged. Now repeat after me, and do try to sound natural. No, Mom, stay where you are. While Bella on page 432, writes a letter of explanation to Edward, I love you. I am so sorry. He has my mom, and I have to try. I know it may not work. I am so very, very sorry. In other words, this establishes how Bella puts herself on the line, risking herself in order, to try to save her mother for love. James (the hunter/tracker) in Bella s eyes, has her mother and for Bella s mother, RenГ©e, to be kept alive Bella is going to try to save her. Even though humans haven t been around to record all earthquakes, they have been around to record many significant ones in the past that have done damages to not only civilizations, but human lives and even the economy. A prime example of an earthquakethat wreaked havoc on Earth was the Great Chilean Earthquake. This was the world s largest ever recorded earthquake which had a magnitude of 9.5 that hit near Valdivia, Chile on May 22, 1960 at 19:11. This was the largest earthquake of the 20th century that triggered large tsunamis to occur all through the Pacific Ocean Basin. This earthquake destroyed large amounts of buildings, killed many people, and had a significant impact on the economy. The Great Chilean Earthquake was what scientists call a Megathrust earthquake. Megathrust earthquakes occur at subduction zones at destructive convergent boundaries and are the most powerful earthquakes in the world that can generally create tsunamis (Subduction Zone: TsunamiGenerated by Megathrust Earthquake n.d.). This megathrust earthquake occurred where the Nazca Plate is subducting underneath the South American Plate and in doing so it produced a 500 mile long rupture zone from Talca, Chile to the Chiloe Archipelago (World s Largest Recorded Earthquake, n.d.). • 43. Child Development Explanations And Understanding Child development explanations and understanding is a complicated process and it is hard deciding the right process to use with each child. Many individuals and doctors have their own way of thinking how the body and mind develops. Their ideas have no right or wrong answers and are mere guesses of human growth. No one idea can be applied directly to a person, without looking at another idea also. To prove these explanations of psychology, scientific methods are used. Teachers may use all patterns of ideas in their lesson planning for children. Teachers choose what ideas to apply in the classroom by what is best proven, and what is in the best interest of the child. They must also look at what has been effective in their teaching in the past. If the idea does not work, then it should be removed from the class, replaced or changed. Each idea has their strong points as well as their weak ones. To avoid the extreme differences in psychology opinions of the ideas you must use the common methods offered. It is hard for teachers to apply one idea to different children, this is due to the fact that none of use grow up the exact same way. For children to have the chance of becoming who and what they want, we must not put all of them in the same box, this is to keep choice free in life. To summarize it definitely helps when you understand the great philosophers and their processes. Theorist Jean Piaget, believed that individuals add and change their points of view of ... The Hippocratic Oath affirms, I will keep [my patients] from harm and injustice. Doctors swear by contributing to the wellbeing of patients, ignoring the various personal effects of ego, sexual interest and human tendency to gossip. Doctors must be able to admit to inability in order to make sound judgements. This would mean diagnosis to the best of their ability, and nothing beyond their ability: I will apply dietetic measures for the benefit of the sick according to my ability and judgment (Hippocrates). The oath calls on doctors not to abuse their societal power or fall prey to their desires: I will come for the benefit of the sick, remaining free of all intentional injustice, of all mischief and in particular of sexual relations (Hippocrates). The oath further protects the patient s emotional wellbeing by restricting the doctor from disclosing details surrounding the patient s physical condition. The oath makes clear, What I may see or hear in the course of the treatment or even outside of the treatment in regard to the life of men, which on no account one must spread abroad, I will keep to myself, holding such things shameful to be spoken about (Hippocrates). • 47. America s First Income Tax Law The nation had few taxes in its early history. From 1791 to 1802, the United States government was supported by internal taxes on distilled spirits, carriages, refined sugar, tobacco and snuff, property sold at auction, corporate bonds, and slaves. The high cost of the War of 1812 brought about the nation s first sales taxes on gold, silverware, jewelry, and watches. In 1817, however, Congress did away with all internal taxes, relying on tariffs on imported goods to provide sufficient funds for running the government. In 1862, in order to support the Civil War effort, Congress enacted the nation s first income taxlaw. It was a forerunner of our modern income tax in that it was based on the principles of graduated, or progressive, taxation and of withholding income at the source. During the Civil War, a person earning from $600 to $10,000 per year paid tax at the rate of 3%. Those with incomes of more than $10,000 paid taxes at a higher rate. Additional sales and excise taxes were added, and an inheritance tax also made its debut. In 1866, internal revenue collections reached their highest point in the nation s 90 year history more than $310 million, an amount not reached again until 1911. The Act of 1862 established the office of Commissioner of Internal Revenue. The Commissioner was given the power to assess, levy, and collect taxes, and the right to enforce the tax laws through seizure of property and income and through prosecution.
