The Road to Bankruptcy of Detroit City Essays
The inevitable is no less a shock because it is inevitable ~ Jamaica Kincaid
Founded in 1701 by nearly 100 French settlers, Pontchartrain du Detroit was not doomed to
bankruptcy. Located near epicenters of trade including the Canadian Border and the Detroit River
and rich in resources Detroit, from a geographic sense, was a city established on lands destined to
prosper. Turning into an industrial powerhouse in the 20th century, the city saw an enormous boom
in both population and industrial prosperity with the growth of the iron stove, railroad car, and ship
building industries. It wasn t until auto manufacturing renaissance initiated with the founding of
Henry Ford Co. in 1910 that Detroit began it s nearly 100 year long descent ... Show more content

The first factor in Detroit s collapse was the undeniable success of the auto industry. The expansion
of the big three auto producers, Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors led the charge. In addition to
dominating the auto industry, the big three were largely responsible for the success of local
business throughout Detroit. Direct suppliers towards the auto companies themselves, and the
subsequent services provided to the auto workers and their families composed the majority of
Detroit business. The rapid expansion of the auto industry resulted in the industry s decentralization
with the city limits of Detroit and caused the expansion of the outlying areas surround Detroit. The
decentralization of industry had profound effects on the geography and on the population of the
city. The movement of jobs out of the city accelerated the process of suburbanization, as
autoworkers who could move followed their jobs. This trend is demonstrated by Census data,
showing that following the creating of new auto plants outside the city of Detroit resulted in the
total population dropping by nearly 300,0000 citizens by 1960. Following this decentralization,
the auto industry suffering from international competition and rising oil prices, was unable to
sustain the levels of economic output seen in years prior; and as a result, became a less desirable
place to live for both workers looking to relocate and current residents.

The Color Purple By F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Color Purple, was released in 1985 and was set in the early until middle of the 1900s, it was
one of the first featured movies to openly discuss the topic of domestic violence as a main part of
the film. This has been very significant because it sets a standard of normalizing domestic
violence in the characters lives, which Walker was able to show and develop through Celie and
how she mistreatment in the hands of her stepfather and husband. In addition, a powerful
message about how people who have been oppressed can unite together to overcome their
oppressors. By the character finding out who she is and taking value in what she can become,
this movie shows a feminist power. While Celie was searching for truth, she comes to realize
that the patriarchal culture she went through in the South is abusive to all women. She learns
that women can be equal to men in in matters of love and finance, power, and in knowledge,
when she met Shug and they escape from Albert. Near the end of the movie, when Celie returns
to Georgia, she isn t submissive and weak anymore; On the contrary, she has become a
competent, self confident woman who knows she can be satisfied without depending on anybody
else but herself. Newly married son Harpo is getting advice from Mister, and Mister says, How
you spect her to mind? Wives is like children. You have to let them know who has the upper hand.

Essay about Details of the Sarbanes Oxley Act 2002
An auditor s role in an audit is very important. An auditor must be able to collect enough
evidence to supports their finding, and also be on the lookout for fraud. Company s may or may
not know the law, but it is the job to know the law, and be able to educate and report findings
properly. Since the Sarbanes Oxley Act, there have been provisions that have directly affected
auditors. This paper will include the details of the Sarbanes Oxley Act, how ethics and
independence have affected auditors, as well implementation of new standards based on the
Sarbanes Oxley Act. The Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002, provided changes in the regulations of the
issuers in the public structures in the United States, as well as non United States issuers.... Show

Foreign private issuers must maintain internal control over financial reporting, and they must
evaluate the effectiveness and changes of the internal control at the end of the company s fiscal
year that may affect the financial reporting. The main goal of the Sarbanes Oxley Act is to
increase oversight over financial reporting and financial control (Cohen Broadsky 2004). Ethics
are a major issue which is a reason why the Sarbanes Oxley Act was implemented. Before the Act,
firms focused on growth but not as much on professional values. Revenue was the driving factor in
auditing firms, and auditors were required to find new clients, keep existing clients, and cross
selling. There were also penalties for not obtaining these requirements which could lead to
termination (Jones III Norman 2006). Since the Act many organizations have now implemented
a code of conduct (ethics) which sets standards of how an auditor is supposed to act or a place to
go to seek advice on handling different situations. The code of conduct or ethics can be viewed as
a way an organization wants one to act or behave (Canary Jennings 2007). Since implementation
ethics is being taught more in college classes, and the reason for this is because of the huge
scandals that have occurred. One study showed that the key leadership roles in a company often
have a MBA, so teaching ethics will reach those leaders, and possibly prevent future ethical
dilemmas (Sulivan, D. 2010).

The Destructive Sprawl of the Suburbia on the Environment...
The Destructive Sprawl of the Suburbia on the Environment Growing up in Northern Toronto, it
had never occurred to me that the neighbourhood I was living in was planned long before my
neighbors or I decided to move and build this a community. As I grew older and I started to
notice new areas being built I noticed that from afar those hundreds of houses were being built
and organized in preparation for hundreds of families. Personally, I am interested in the
development of subdivisions and the suburbs due to my family owning a property around the area
of Lake Simcoe. It seems as though that with every passing year it takes another few kilometers or
minutes to escape the confines of the citydue to the growth of the suburbs around... Show more

The end of the war opened new avenues for the American public due to new innovations in
technology and organization (Marshall, 1979). Abraham Levitt, an American entrepreneur,
established a community in Nassau County, Long Island. Levitt converted former farmland into a
suburban community where thousands of individuals could find housing. Approximately, 17,000
houses were built and sold or rented to middle income families (Naish, 2014). Among the
American population, there was a desire for individual freedom following World War II. One
being able to attain a large living space and accumulate material wealth became engrained in the
American Dream. Many realized that the suburbs and living in planned subdivisions of land was
an affordable option. This led to the growth of suburbia throughout the late 20th century. These
same desires are what allow the suburbs to flourish today. The US Census Bureau published in
2002 The Demographic Trends of the 20th Century. In the 20th century, the American population
grew from 76 million to 281 million, with 80% of the 281 million living in urban areas. It is the
suburbs that represented the largest degree of growth. Suburbia houses over 50% of the American
people (Hobbs et al., 2014).

Mikhail Gorbachev Research Paper
I would like to nominate Mikhail Gorbachev to be named Person of the Decade . Mikhail
Gorbachev was born in Privolnoye, Russia on March 2, 1931. His mother and father were peasant
farmers and his father taught Mikhail how to use a combine harvester. When he was a teenager he
drove a tractor to help his familyout financially. He excelled in school and actually enjoyed
learning, so his father urged him to continue his educationafter high school. Mikhail was accepted
at the Moscow University due to his excellent academic record. He graduated in 1955 with a law
degree from Moscow University cum laude. The economic and political climate during Gorbachev
s youth was very troubled. While he was still in high school he became a member of the
Communist party. Mikhail was granted full membership while he was at Moscow University. After
graduating from the university, he became the assistant director of propaganda for the territorial...

Countries that had been part of the USSR like Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia were able to become
independent states. Other countries could have free elections and allow people to make their own
choices. The threat of another war eased and there was a reduction in nuclear arsenals between the
USSR and the United States. Unlike the leaders who had come before him, Gorbachev was
willing to be more open to change. That willingness would help bring an end to communism in
Eastern Europe. Mikhail Gorbachev also aided in the fall of the Berlin Wall and helped bring
about the reunification of Germany. Even though most of what he did happened towards the end
of the 1980s, the effects of what he accomplished helped define the world throughout the 1990s.
Gorbachev would step down as president in December of 1991. New countries, new political
parties and new freedoms came about because of his willingness to work with other countries and
his desire to better his own

Vulvovaginitis Essay
Vulvovaginal candidiasis is one of the most prevalent vaginal infections and represents,
approximately 40% 50% of all cases of infectious vulvovaginitis [22]. The prevalence of RVVC
among childbearing women and its importance as an Egyptian public health problem make an
interest to continue research on such cases to add deep knowledge on RVVC and to understand the
behavior of its pathogen and its epidemiology within Egyptian patients [23]. RVVC and its control
by MBL was studied previously, but unfortunately none of the published papers discussed such
cases in Egyptian patients. In an attempt to fill this gap, this study was designed on 118
childbearing Egyptian women to find out new therapeutic strategy for RVVC.

However, some investigators found that MBL serum level was higher in RVVC cases when
compared it to controls indicating that MBL might be defensive against RVVC [13]. On the
contrary, other studies reported that MBL level was lower in RVVC cases compared to controls
[12, 32]. Nevertheless, they depended on measurement of MBL in vaginal fluid while in the
present study, MBL was measured in serum. From practical point of view, determination of MBL
level in vaginal discharge is technically too difficult to perform and to standardize. Even more, the
entity of vaginal fluid is changeable throughout menstrual period [33].
The present study could find an association between MBL2 exon 1 codon 54 polymorphism and
susceptibility to RVVC. Carriage of mutant allele B was more frequent in women with RVVC
(16.1%) than in controls (6%). In previous studies, MBL2 codon 54 polymorphism has been
associated with increased frequency of RVVC in Latvian, Brazilian, Chinese, and Belgium [12, 32,
34, 35] but not Italian patients [31].
In the present study, analysis of genital hygiene behaviors among wild MBL genotypes estimated
that bad genital hygiene behaviors increased the risk of RVVC by 3.47 times while the risk of
RVVC has been elevated to 18.67 times in the presence of mutant MBL genotypes. These results
supported the fact that RVVC is a monomicrobial; however, it is multifactorial disease in origin
[36]. Moreover, good genital hygiene behaviors

Synthesis Of T-Pentyl Chloride Lab Report
Introduction: The purpose of this experiment was to synthesize t pentyl chloride from the reaction
of t pentyl alcohol and concentrated HCl. This reaction occurred through an SN1 reaction, a
unimolecular nucleophilic substitution reaction. This was a First Order Rate Reaction where the
rate of t pentyl chloride was dependent only on the concentration of t pentyl alcohol. After the
reaction was completed, the products were achieved via 3 liquid liquid extractions and then after by
simple distillation. In the liquid liquid extractions a solute was transferred from one solvent to
another. Then in the simple distillation the miscible liquids or the solution, was separated by
differences in boiling points. After this the product was determined through infrared spectroscopy.
Procedure: Isolation of Crude Product A mixture of 22 ml... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the process, extraction and distillation techniques were used. The theoretical amount of t pentyl
chloride was 17.358g, while 15.78 g was the actual amount produced which gave a percent yield
of 90.9%. An error occurred while performing the experiment, the filtered dried product in the
distillation process was placed in the wrong flask. Due to this that part of the experiment had to be
redone and the new filtered product had some aqueous solution in it, which caused the boiling point
to be under the specified temperature. The boiling point then was at 50 в„ѓ compared with the
expected range of 79 84 в„ѓ. The IR spectrum used above was from another group s results. The
experimental IR spectrum has more prominent peaks in the 3000 cm 1 range compared to the
expected IR spectrum. Nonetheless, the experimental IR spectrum resembles the expected IR
spectrum in the sense that the peaks are closely around the same wavenumber range. This is
probably due to the product being distilled at the right boiling

The Prices And The Federal Reserve s Control Of The Money...
The early to mid eighties presented a challenge to the fed. A combination of falling oil prices and
the Federal Reserve s control of the money supply, helped to slow down an inflation that had been
largely out of control in the previous decade. By the mid eighties, the economy had bounced back
and the United States was entering into one of the longest periods of consistent and sustainable
economic growth since the second world war. Along with this growth, the annual inflationrate did
not exceed 5%.
Other problems still loomed on the horizon though. The agriculture industry still had issues only to
be compounded by the droughts of 1986 and 1988. Congress consistently ran considerable deficits
throughout the 1980 s. The deficits grew ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This did cause some inflation, but not to the level that the oil crisis from a decade earlier had.
Fears became a reality as the 1990 s approached. The budget deficits on the federal level began to
rise again. At $220 billion in 1990, the deficit had grown three times in size since 1980. Bush
was dedicated to curbing the deficit, believing that America could not continue to be a leader in
the world without doing so. In the wake of a struggle with Congress, Bush was forced by the
Democratic majority in Congress to raise tax revenues and as a result, many Republicans felt
betrayed. After all, Bush had promised no new taxes in his 1988 campaign.
Fiscal Policy
Monetary policy is controlled by the Federal Reserve, an independent agency from the executive
branch. However, the administration does have an obvious effect. The most obvious is the
appointment and reappointment of Alan Greenspan. At the time this may have seemed like a tough
decision, but in hind sight the decision could not have been any better. When it was time for his
reappointment from President Clinton, he was not regarded as the savior he is now. Many officials
from the Bush administration blamed him for the recession of 90 91. Not to mention the fact that
Greenspan is a conservative Republican. It would have been common sense to assume that Clinton
would put someone who shared his political philosophy over the highest bank in the land. The fact
that Clinton

What Does It Mean To Say That Art Is A Lie
Pablo Picasso once said Art is a lie that brings us closer to the truth . From this statement a lot can
be interpreted leading to different ideas and I think most prominent is the relationship between
art, the truth and lies. Pablo Picasso makes two assumptions in his assertion, the first concerning
the first section which addresses the fact that art is a lie. The second assumption is made
whereby art is given a purpose brings us closer to the truth which creates a paradox that truth can
develop and exist in a lie. Furthermore his statement of the two contradictory suggestions leads us
to understand that art is a representation of the truth or truths and reality which are perceived by
humans as lies. Art is a wide and broad Area of Knowledge that incorporates a lot of art forms and
a form that has dominated our modern times is film. Taking this into account, Picasso s statement
will be analyzed in relation to film on the basis of two contradictory claims on art, lies and truth....

Art s definition is very controversial and many different thoughts can come up. This brings up a
knowledge question Is it possible to define what art is completely? The controversy rises when
discussing what exactly does Picasso mean by art, is it just in paintings and visual expression or
rather more deeper and bigger context. Leading to another question on the context of his
statement. To what extent does context affect our understanding of Knowledge? A very good
example that reinforces this is The Matrix , which is a well known movie series that greatly
deals with the idea of perception vs reality whereby people what people perceive to be the truth and
reality is really just an illusion and deception. Referring to a quote from the film What is real? How

Gun Control Persuasive Speech
I, a Boy Scout, am currently working on my Citizenship in the Nation merit badge, and I am
writing to you as part of one of my requirements for the merit badge. I am writing to you regarding
your stance on the issue of gun control in light of the recent Parkland shooting. As a high school
student and constituent, I would like to thank you for your support on recent bills to protect
students security and safety by increasing the age of purchase of semiautomatic rifles and
authorizing measures to increase safety programs, specifically H.R. 5909 and H.R. 4909.
As a student through a number of major school shootings across the nation, including Sandy Hook
in 2012 and now the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, it is worrisome
that measures to prevent these acts of violence have not been effective. We must also remember the
numerous smaller shootings at schools and the unsafe environment that these shootings bring to
schools. In this advanced age that we live in today, it is difficult to understand why school
shootings are still happening. This sentiment is not new: after each shooting, we see the tragedy on
mass media, and we join up and protest for stricter gun legislation, for stronger programs to aid
students with mental illnesses. But each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Role of Alfieri and His Dramatic Significance in the Play
Explore The Role Of Alfieri And Discuss His Dramatic Significance In The Play The play is set
in Red Hook, in Brooklyn, in New York. It is set in the 1940 s. Red Hook is a poor local
community with many immigrants. Immigrants went to America because of the depression in
Europe so people wanted work, and America was seen as a place of freedom and opportunity,
otherwise known as The American Dream . The play is mainly based on the difference between
old and new, between America and Italy. This basis is relied on and is brought up, at many points
in the play. Alfieri s role in the play is neutral. He is a narrator, and occasionally an actor in the

Which is exactly the point Eddie is trying to make during the play, in Sicily, from where their

of the soliloquy, Alfieri uses juxtaposition. By talking about Eddie and fate at the same time, he
is joining to ideas, and making one single idea in subtext. He is suggesting that Eddie will face
fate later in the play, and watched it run its blood course This is letting the audience know that
someone in the play will die, and by using juxtaposition, Alfieri is hinting that the person who
will die, will be Eddie. By doing this, Alfieri gives evidence that he does give the audience clues
about what will happen later in the play. When Eddie first goes to see Alfieri to ask him for

Describe A Memorable Day In Your Life
Shante Fox Exam: 98609801 Student Id: 21803485 Describe a memorable day in your life. п»їTo
choose one memorable time in my life is not an easy task. There are many occasions in my life
that stand out, many even prepared me to be the woman I am today. One of those moments, the
day my daughter was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. That day was my
first lesson in patience and fueled my ability in research. Yes, I admit I was very nervous and
concerned. I educated myself by reading numerous books. You could even go as far as to say I
was obsessed with everything I heard and read about ADHD. I wanted to become
knowledgeable and not just take the word of others. I became so involved in the research I felt
as though I knew everything there was to know about the disorder, not true; each child is unique
in their own right, everything I could get my hands on, no measure of research could explain or
prepare me for what my daughter was dealing with. In turn, I put the instruction guide away and
learned from my daughter, her feelings, her actions, her triggers, and her frustrations. I wanted to
allow Taylor, my daughter, to teach me her Mother, what she needed from me, no longer what her
diagnosis needed. I will say this, the journey has been long and rough. Various medications, issues
at school, many trips to various Doctors, change of diet, isolation, and even Taylor s declination of
self worth at times. I blamed myself a lot of times, especially when

Individuals with borderline personality disorder often go through this because they are
misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder. Although bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder
are commonly mistaken for each other, they have several distinctive differences to determine if an
individual has one of these disorders. The biggest difference between these two mental illnesses
are the symptoms. Since the symptoms are different, the treatment of the disorders is different as
well. Bipolar disorder is considered a mood disorder, meaning that the mental illness only affects

Evolution Of Ballet Research Paper
The Evolution of Ballet
How has ballet evolved since popularized during the Italian Renaissance? Going back to
preschool, I have loved to dance. Ballet was the first style I learned, and it made me fall in love
with dance. My instructor this year often talks about what ballet was like when he danced (in the
1970s,) and also before then. One day, he explained to my class how girls used to dance on their
toes before pointe shoes were invented. I found it fascinating, so I decided to research more about
it after class. As I was looking up the history of the pointe shoe, I came across some websites that
explained the history of ballet and where it originated. Even after having danced for eleven years,
I realized there is so much that I do not know about it. There is more to ballet than going to class
and doing performances. Just as in any sport or hobby, it helps to know how it first started and how
it has evolved. To improve at anything, one must understand the fundamentals. By doing this

Any artist would agree with me in saying that experiencing art is of value to, and almost

Catherine de Medici was born in Italy during the Italian Renaissance. Her family was a patron of
the arts, which is how she became acquainted with ballet. The ballet at this time was called Ballet
de Cour, or court ballet. During this time only boys danced, but Medici still loved to watch.
When she moved to France to marry King Henry II, she brought her love of dance with her. In
1581 the first ballet, Ballet Royal de la Reine, was performed in the Medici

The Importance Of Women s Rights And The Fight For Equality
Amelia Earhart once said, Women, like men, should try to do the impossible. And when they fail,
their failure should be a challenge to others (Earhart, n.d.). To me this statement means whether
we are women or men we shall forever challenge ourselves because when we fail, it should give
us the motivation to strive to accomplish more. For generations women have tried to be equal to
men. From generations before us, women were housewives and only housewives. They took care
of their children, men, and chores. However, there are now women in our military, there are some
women are business owners, chief executives, and much more. However, there is still more
changes that need to be made where women and men can be considered equal in all countries.
Women s rights and the fight for equality has come a long way in the United States. Decades before
us the Women s suffrage came into play (History, 2010). It was a way for women to stand up and
protest for their rights as a human because no matter If you re a man or a woman everyone
should have equal equality. However, it took awhile for the women to be heard, but when they
did, they passed the law for women to have the right to vote in 1920. Which is known as the 19th
Amendment (History, 2010). Considering the law that was being passed, over eight million women
across the United States voted for the very first time. Ever since then, women s right had continued
to grow. Especially during World War II, women s employment increased

The Age Of Jackson s Political History
The Age of Jackson
On particular, The Age of Jackson changed America s political history because Jackson established
new precedents with the government s relations with Indians, the issue of state and federal rights
and also established a political rivalry. The Age of Jackson occurred during the time period from
1829 to 1837. During this time period, the United Stated of America was under the presidential term
of Andrew Jackson. Ever since Andrew Jackson s election, there was a complete transformation in
the political history of the United States. Before Andrew Jackson, who in which was the 7th
president of the United States, there had only been presidents that did nothing but follow imposes of
George Washington. The presidents were John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James
Monroe and John Quincy Adams. These presidents did not involve themselves with wars that
occurred in Europe, they had no political parties, and they did nothing about the relations with the
Indians. They also kept the Bank of America that President George Washington created. In the other
hand Jackson is known for the Trail of Tears, he ended, the Bank of America and initiated a two
party political system.
To initiate, one of the reasons that Jackson marked a new age in American political history is the
Trial of Tears which occurred from 1831 to 1838. This event in history was when Jackson
relocated the Indians from the east of the Mississippi River to the west. Andrew Jackson believed

sales transaction must be through licensed ammunition vendors, recorded and presented to the
Department of Justice. If any firearms or ammunition is stolen or missing, it must be reported to
law enforcement. People, who have been found guilty of stealing firearms, are banned from
owning them. The Department of Justice will take part in the federal National Instant Criminal
Background Check System as well (Chion et al, 63 ). Proposition 63 should be passed. If it is
passed, it will help lessen gun violence and keep citizens safe. It will keep firearms out of
convicted felons and dangerous individuals that should not be owning any firearms. Also, it
continues to protect the right of law abiding citizens to bear arm for self defense, hunting, and etc.
Our communities will be safer with less gun violence with the passing of proposition 63. Gun

Competitive pressures associated with the jockeying among rival sellers
For global game industry, every company competes violently.
According our case, there are several rivals in this industry, such as Electronic Art, Activision Inc,

Euripides Support of Women’s Rights Essay
Euripides Support of Women s Rights
One can hardly deny that in Euripides plays women are often portrayed as weak, uncertain, and
torn between what they must do and what they can bring themselves to do. Other women appear
to be the root of grave evils, or simply perpetrators of heinous crimes. In a day when analysis of
characters and plot had yet to be invented, it is easy to see why he might have been thought to be
very much against women. However, when looking back with current understanding of what
Euripides was doing at the time, armed with knowledge of plot devices and Socratic philosophy,
this argument simply does not hold up. In fact, a very strong argument can be made to the opposite,
that Euripides was in fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To better understand this difference, a more in depth explanation of the art of tragedy is
necessary. Tragedy was unique of all the forms of Greek art; it was seen as the only combination
of the two classes of art. These two classes are named after Apollo and Dionysus, the two Greek art
deities (Nietzsche 1). The Apollonian influence was seen as the art of things of form and structure,
the molding or creation of something tangible. The Dionysian, on the other hand, was seen as the
more plastic arts, music in particular, where the art lies as much in the performance as the
conception. The Apollonian was seen as a creation brought on by a dream like state, perhaps
induced by a god or sleep, while the Dionysian is usually attributed to high spirits, such as
drunkenness (Nietzsche 1). As stated before, Tragedy was the unique combination of these two art
influences. The Apollonian influence is seen in the writing of the play, as well as in its tangible
aspects, the stage and costumes, for instance. The Dionysian art is represented by the music and by
the exclusive nature of each performance (Nietzsche 2).
The way Nietzsche saw it, the epitome of this was represented by the work of Sophocles and
Aeschylus (Nietzsche 42). Euripides represented something contrary to the art of tragedy in the way
it had been previously implemented. It is well documented that Euripides consorted with

The Space Race
The space race was an important time in history, for the U.S, USSR, and the rest of the world.
Soon after World War II, the Soviet Union and United States began a global battle, communism

other s achievements in what later became known as the famous Space Race.
The Cold Warwas the United States capitalists, versus the Soviet communists. It wasn t an actual
war, but more of a grudge, because there wasn t any real fighting going on. It began in the late
1950 s, after World War II. The war ended after the Berlin Wall was torn down, and the USSR fell

In 1961, John F. Kennedy made a public claim to land a man on the moon before the end of the

Who Am I Who I Am
Why I am Who I am
When I think back to why I am who I am, I think back to my childhood and what memories have
stuck in my mind. They often come up in certain situations as a reminder to never forget the
people that love me, or the places that I love that influence my choices and the road to my future
goals. I try my best to follow advice and recollect on the important things in life, like zipping up
my coat or enjoying time with my family, making the best out of situations and thinking
positively. I remember repetitive smells or touch that one day added to my mind and never left,
that will always be a part of me, Now I am eighteen and in college, about to start a new chapter
my life and compose new memories with new people. Thinking back now makes me wonder what
it will be like to think back years from now to these moments that im making now, and how I will
connect them all.
Zip it up or don t go outside my teacher would declare to me, because I still couldn t zip up my
own coat without someone s help. Could you please help me? I asked, Try zipping it up or don t

Venomous Snakes In Australia
Snakes instill fear in humans more than an animal alive. We are superior to the snakes, however;
with just one bite from a venomous snake, we might just say our goodbyes. Are there venomous
snakes in the sea? The answer is yes. The deadliest one is the Beaded sea snake. Three venom
drops from this snake kill eight people. Fortunately, their fangs cannot penetrate a diver suit easily.
If only they are threatened, that s when they strike. Australia is the country that possesses a wide
variety of venomous snakes. Cases of snakebites only come from the Eastern Brown Snake yet it

Before anti venom treatment was discovered, people in Australia mostly died from this snake bite.
The saw scaled viper (Echis carina tuis): This viper is found in the Far East and the Middle East. It
commonly causes deaths among field workers. Its main hazardous feature this creature brings into a
human being s body is that, its venom is slow acting and the casualty may delay in treating the bite
thus leading to death. This viper s venom is hemotoxic causing massive bleeding internally and
collapse of the circulatory system. Studies have shown that without the immediate availability of
anti venom, death is inevitable.
Philippine Cobra: While most cobras inspire fear, most of them do not make this list. The

Examples Of Oral Presentation
Oral Presentation 03: reading a text and talking about a topic
The purpose of this paper is to give a summary of my last oral presentation which had two
different parts: reading a short text and talking about a topic. All of this had to be done for a
minimum of three minutes to a maximum of five. Once this was done the rest of the students and
the professor were invited to ask questions or comment any possible thing that needed further
explanation. Reading a short text and talking about a given topic, both of them unknown until the
moment in which the oral practice starts, allows the speaker to show its skills regarding
pronunciation without prior rehearsal and the way in which that person organizes ideas and
improvises in order to construct a conversation under uncertain circumstances. This report will go

sitting next to each other at a table in the professor s office. He placed a lot of papers face down
and told us to pick one. Once the three of us had one, we were given three minutes to read the text
that was on the document and to choose one of the three topics that appeared so as to plot an
outline of the things that we would be commenting afterwards. After the time finished, we were
informed that we would be speaking following the order in which we signed up to do the oral
exercise. This meant that I would be the last to talk.

murder in Holcomb Kansas. Four members of the Clutter family are brutally murdered by two ex
cons and the story follows the hunt for the murderers, their capture, and eventually some country
justice. The murder took place on the night of November 15, 1959. The investigators had no
motive for the crime and the only clues that they had were two pairs of boot prints left by the
killers. Capotetook all of his notes and after the murder had been solved he began to formulate a

The section begins with a description of the town, After rain, or when snowfalls thaw, the streets,
unnamed, unshaded, unpaved, turn from the thickest dust to the direst mud (Capote 1). By
including these details in the description of the town it shows that the town is a very old
fashioned town that is behind the societies that are in more developed, larger cities in America.
Capote goes on, The bank closed in 1933, and its former counting rooms have be converted into
apartments (Capote 2). With the bank having been closed around the time of the depression it
shows that the town no longer trusted the government after the banks failed them and they do all
their business between themselves. The town is a very closed off from the national system and the
only connection they have is through their post office. All these descriptions cause the town to be a
perfect picture of a safe, rural community where nothing bad happens and people all depend on each
other.
Also in the first section, Capote describes the Clutter family and their murderers as the murder
approaches. First, the head of the house, Mr. Clutter is described, He was not as rich as the richest
man in Holcomb... He was, however, the community s most widely known citizen, prominent both
there, and in Garden City... (Capote 6). Mr. Clutter was a well known and well loved by the society

eventually gotten to his main head, while others were fighting other parts of him deep in the Duat.
Along with us, Zia who was hosting the sun god Ra was shooting fire balls at Apophis. It was a

could feel the pure chaos burrowing into my bones, and killing me from the inside out. For a

Set on a stage of revolution and Enlightenment, the Neo Classical period presents a broad and

The second noted influence on the New Classical period was the excavations of Herculaneum and
Pompeii and the paintings, sculptures and jewellery that were brought forth from these sites. These
mines of wealth motivated an interest in Greco Roman art, which is the mark of Neoclassicism.
Within the recovered works, people saw a physical perfection and moral health which was a
dominant theme of the Enlightenment. New perceptions of society based in the Athesian
commonwealth and the Roman republic was beginning to form, and later these themes became
symbols of freedom and democracy (the basis of Romanticism). The artistic assumption of the time
was the idea that, one must raise beauty over morality and that beauty lies in shape and contour, not
in colour, which only assisted beauty. This principle simplified the Neo Classical forms.

Later, the Academy adopted a policy of exclusion to non members, offering only students the
opportunities to be given commissions, exhibitions and prestige. Also, artists could only gain
recognition for their art by the guilds if they had studied at the Academy.

community and travel to location where you can obtain the materials required to begin prototyping.
This process is not linear. You will reiterate many times through Empathise, Ideate and Prototype

Although women can be perpetrators, they are more often the victims of abuse than men.
According to Blair, McFarlane, Nava, Gilroy, and Maddoux (2015), 92 percent of domestic
violence offenders are male (p. 23). Domestic violence perpetrators that become involved in the
criminal justice system are overwhelmingly male offenders between the ages of 18 and 35 years
old. Data from studies conducted in the United States have revealed that a significant amount of
male abusers have had some type of previous contact with the criminal justice system. It should be
noted that this contact includes positive and negative encounters. Since abusers come from all
walks of life, they can be respected law abiding members of their communities or unpopular
individuals with a criminal history. There are no set standards or explicit personality traits that
wholly identify abusers. However, researchers have identified certain indicators and risk factors
that may predispose one to become an abuser (U.S. Department of Justice, 2009).
One dominant attribute of domestic violence is the rate of recurrence for substance use or abuse in
domestic violence incidents. Researchers have determined that there is an extremely high
correlation between the use of these substances and domestic assaults. Research endorsed by the
National Institute of Justice has established that

Examples Of Rhetorical Devices In A Modest Proposal
USE OF SATIRICAL STRATEGIES IN A MODEST PROPOSAL BY JONOTHAN SWIFT
In his modest proposal, Jonathan Swift uses logical fallacies, repetition, metaphors, humor,
parallelism, sarcasm and satire. The devices are effectively used to examine the attitude of the
rich people towards the poor in the society. Jonathan starts by mocking the mothers for strolling
in the streets begging for alms instead of looking for jobs and putting something on the tables
for children to eat. Jonathan predicts that when the kids grow, they might turn out to be thieves
as nobody taught these kids to earn an honest living. He uses logical fallacies to try and make
the proposal modest though his line of thinking is not correct. He points out that a year old child
is nourishing and wholesome food. That a healthy child is delicious food to be prepared using
any method of food preparation is outrageous. He proposes that 20,000 children preserved for
bleeding purposes. This is dehumanizing children and comparing them to animals. He outlines
how slaughterhouses should be build and butchers be employed to do the slaughtering of children.
In his exaggeration, he goes to the point of saying that the kids will be roasted like pigs. ( ) Swift
also uses irony when he says that there are about 200,000 couples whose wives are just breeders.
( ) He proposes that an arrangement is made to the rear and provide for these children. Here he
compares women to animals because human beings are not bred for commercial purposes. Here he
dehumanizes human beings by use of satire. He gives reasons as to why this is a good idea. First,
he says that the method will decrease the number of useless Catholics in Ireland. Secondly, he
claims that the government will earn from exports of the meat from Ireland. The mothers will
also earn something from this breeding and a burden will be lifted off their shoulders. He also
foresees that the new delicacy will be welcomed in the taverns. The marriage institution will also
be enhanced because mothers will put in more effort in raising the best kids because they would
fetch good prices in the markets. To support his argument, Swift is sarcastic that some parts of
children s body are good for eating. He further notes that these

Marine Mammal Bycatch Essay
Throughout the years, marine mammal bycatch has continued to be a growing concern due to a
steady increase in mammal mortality rates. Mike Gaworecki mentions in his article that during this
past month the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration initiated a rule limiting seafood
imports from different countries that do not meet the United States new bycatch standards. Bycatch
is a term that means catching unwanted species when intending to fishfor a different type of species.
On a daily basis multiple dolphins, whales, and other unwanted animals are being captured because
of inappropriate or ill suited forms of netting and traps. By implementing this rule the United States
government hopes to prevent and reduce future cases of inappropriate capture. NOAA claims that
they feel this is necessary because they want to enforce more restrictions on fishery related marine
mammal deaths, while influencing other countries to improve on their fishingmethods.
The reason for this sudden ruling was because several conservation groups joined together to sue
the American government for lack of improvement throughout the years on fishery imports from
other countries. By losing this ruling, the United States government has been forced to change their
standards in order to support a previous act they made in 1972, The Marine Mammal Protection Act.
This act originally provided protection for all marine mammals and included their protection of
population sustainability. Over the years, the government had failed to continue this protection
with countries that they imported seafood supply from and thus led to stricter regulations. A key
example used to demonstrate some effects the seafood imports had include the ... Show more

Musical Theatre
An accomplished American lyricist and composer, Stephen Sondheim, once said: All the best
performers bring to their role something more, something different than what the author put on
paper. That s what makes theatre live. That s why it persists . Through my experiences in musical
theatre, both in elementary school and high school, I have come to realize that the script is the
backbone, or the base with which the actorbegins to create. All of the words written down on
paper are one dimensional; they are flat. It is only when an actor gives those words a voice that
the character begins to come alive. An actor adds all of the other essential layers to the backbone,
and suddenly, there are movements, expressions and emotions to fit with the... Show more content

That is the beauty about theatre. Each performer has a different interpretation of a character,
because they draw upon their own personal experiences in the attempt to connect with their
character on a deeper level. This is why musicals live on, and are repeatedly performed on
Broadway. Although the characters and the plot are ever present, the actors will change from
year to year, or sometimes even from show to show. Therefore, not one show will be the exact
same. Every performer brings something different to their role, connecting with their character
in a way that no one else ever will; that is unique only to them. This rings true for my
performance in the musical Fame. Having a double cast, each character was shared between
two people, thus allowing for differentiation in the way in which the characters were interpreted
and played. For example, I played Iris s character in a way that was unique to how Katie Smith
played the character. Even though we spoke the exact same lines, we interpreted these lines
differently, making them our own and molding a character from our own thoughts, ideas, and
personal experiences. Making these text to self connections (relating one s own experiences to a
text, or in this case, a script) is essential when acting. To truly relate to the character in which one
is acting, one must draw upon their own ideas and connect them to their character s feelings,
emotions, behavior, etc. Forming these connections allows for one to step inside the character s
shoes, and to truly become that specific character. In my personal experience of acting as Iris in
the musical Fame, I felt as though Iris and I shared great similarities, and this is what helped me to
relate with her character on an emotional level. Although I am not a talented ballet dancer who
never does anything but dance, I could relate to Iris s hardworking and perfectionist

and atmosphere. When Turner was 10 years old, he lived with an uncle at Brentford, Middlesex,
where he attended school. His father sold Turners drawings as early as 1787 because they were
so professional. In 1789, Turner started at the Royal Academy schools where he began creating his
watercolors. The painters at the Royal Academy, were responsible for creating the 18th century
with nocturnal subjects. He spent most of his time touring the country in search of scenery to fill
his sketchbooks with drawings. These drawings would later be used for watercolors.... Show more

This oil painting is a moonlight scene and known as an original mind by contemporary critics.
The strong power of nature is the main theme that brings greatness or sublime that inspires our
thoughts. The moonlight s contrast is delicate to the flickering lantern on the boat. This
emphasizes nature s power over humans and the fishermen s fate. After Fishermen at Sea, in
1799, he was elected an associate of the Royal Academy at 24 years old; this being the youngest
age a person can be elected. In 1802, Turner had the dignity of signing a collection of large
pictures, resulting him to become an academician. Shortly after, he opened a private gallery to
show his latest work. Turner s gallery was extremely successful that resulted an obvious
statement that his career of art was assured. As he was traveling to search new ideas for art work
in Wales, Yorkshire, the Midlands, Scotland, and the European continent; he crossed the
dangerous ocean to Calasis. In his picture, Calais Pier (1802 03), he left an obvious sense of
danger before his arrival. During his tour of France and Switzerland, he completed more than
400 drawings of scenes that impressed him. In 1807, Turner began publishing the Liber
Studiorum or can be translated as the Book of Studies is a series of his landscapes and seascape
paintings published as prints. This time for Turner has been described as, The pith of all that is

Richard Cory Essay
The American poet, Edwin Arlington Robinson wrote the narrative poem Richard Cory, which
first appeared in his second poetry collection, The Children of the Night and recalls the economic
depression of 1893. Throughout the poem, Robinson describes an envied, wealthy man who is
seen as the idol and poster child of the perfect life. But to their surprise, Richard Corycommits
suicide, which teaches the townspeople a great lesson: that material, wealth, normality, and fancy
things are not what bring a person eternal happiness.
He displays the theme through using imagery, diction, and situational irony.
Throughout the poem, Robinson uses imagery to help readers envision an image of Richard Cory
being someone who has everyone stopping and looking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the poem, Richard Cory appears to have it all: the looks, the wealth and the status.
Everyone in the town wants to be just like him due to the perfection which he seems to display.
The whole town stops and only thinks of the money he has and how amazing his life would be,
but they do not realize what he is feeling or never stop to really talk to him. In the reality, he
lacks happiness, the key ingredient to having it all. The irony of the poem is that this man, who
seems to have everything perceived to bring happiness, kills himself because he is unhappy with
his life. Six lines in the poem begins with and. The repetition of this word helps to build an idea of
how Richard Cory looked. But more importantly, with each repetition it places him higher and
higher on this pedestal of power and respect that the townspeople have placed him on. This use of
repetition helps build towards the climax and creates a story behind the climax. This technique also
builds more impact and shock of the last line of the poem, teaching the reader and townspeople that
material, wealth, normality, and fancy things are not what bring a person eternal

Evaluation Of The Cross Site Scripting Attacks
A vast array of techniques is implemented to counter the cross site scripting attacks (XSS) that
only seems to increase in number and complexity day by day. However, all the prevention
practices to avert the XSS attacks can be classified based upon the place it is deployed. Validation
checks can be setup at server side, client side or at both end points.
1.Server Side Validation: Before any data is passed to the server or the database, it needs to be
systematically checked and validated to reduce any ambiguity, duplication and inconsistent data.
Over the years, a number of testing tools have been used in the web development industry along
with white box weakness scanners to detect any incoming XSS attacks in the real world. (V....

The modified architecture to screen the attacks would intercept all HTML and Scripts the use of
this application proxy. Large volumes of testing data sets collected over time together with the use
of modified testing and scanning techniques enables the developers to build the robust systems that
is able to scan attacks generated and written in Hypertext Preprocessor PHP and other script capable
of generating complex dynamic HTML attacks.
Furthermore, server side validation can be further boosted by the input validation techniques and
are capable of preventing XSS attacks. Bisht, Venkatakrishanan (2008) proposed several
techniques to identify the HTML inputs as an XSS scripts as well as examined various causes a
filtering and validation mechanism fail to identify incoming XSS attacks. A new framework was
also proposed that is capable of identifying and blocking attacks coming in various forms. Called
XSS Guard, they works by dynamically learning the set of scripts that a web application intends to
create for any HTML request. Ponnavaikk , et al., (2008)
Another popular approach to perform server side dynamic XSS identification and prevention
technique is the use of Pearl s taint mode. Sharp, Scott (2002). In this technique, any suspicious
variable is traced and tracked during its life time in the program. Any malicious value is marked if
it is found that its origin is deemed suspicious or is from

The Use Of Cell Phones While Driving
It is known that the use of cell phones while driving decreases driver awareness and overall road
safety, and in response to this knowledge, some states have passed laws that have prohibited the
use of handheld devices. However, there are no laws banning hands free cell phone usage,
despite research claiming hands free devices are just as dangerous handheld devices, but does
their usage distract drivers enough to the point where states should legally ban the total use cell
phones while driving? The following will introduce arguments for both sides of this topic, one for
hands free cell phone usage and the other against cell phones usage entirely. It should be illegal to
use hands free devices while driving because research from... Show more content on

Additionally, the cell phone group rated themselves worse in driving performance before and
after the simulator. This indicates that driver performance is impaired by cell phone use and
drivers generally know their driving is worse when using hands free devices, therefore, the use
of such devices should be illegal. Other evidence against hands free cell phone use while driving
is simply that talking on hands free devices is just as bad as talking on handheld devices in
relation to driver performance (Ishigami Klein, 2009). To determine this, Ishigami and Klein
(2009) reviewed the results of several separate studies that investigated the impacts of handheld
and hands free cell phone usage on the detection reaction times of drivers. These studies were:
Abdel Aty (2003), Burns et al. (2002), Consiglio et al. (2003), Haigney et al. (2000), McEvoy et
al. (2005), Patten et al. (2004), Redelmeier and Tibshirani (1997), Strayer and Johnson (2001),
Strayer, Drews, and Crouch (2006), and Törnros and Boiling (2005, 2006). Consiglio et al. studied
the effects of auditory distractions, such as cell phone, by measuring the reaction time of
participants using a non driving, braking task where participants released an accelerator and applied
the brakes if a red light were shown. The control group performed the task without auditory
stimulation. Strayer and Johnson (2001) examined the effects of phone conversation on reaction
time with a computer pursuit tracking task.

Competition Vs. Monopoly Essay
1. Analyze the fast food industry from the point of view of perfect competition. Include the
concepts of elasticity, utility, costs, and market structure to explain the prices charged by fast food
retailers.
Firms within the fast food industry fall under the market structure of perfect competition. Market
structure is a classification system for the key traits of a market. The characteristics of perfect
competition include: large number of buyers and sellers, easy entry to and exit from the market,
homogeneous products, and the firm is the price taker. Many fast food franchises fit all or most of
these characteristics.
Competition within the industry as well as market supply and demand conditions set the price of
products sold. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the current prices, firms may sell as much product as they want, thereby maximizing profits.
This industry has a very high utility value. Utility is a measure of satisfaction or pleasure that is
obtained from consuming a good or service. If consumers feel as if they get a good meal, at a
good price, then they re satisfied. This customer satisfaction coupled with relatively low prices
keeps the industry profitable.
Another quality of perfect competition that may be overlooked, but is vital to this industry is the
ease of entry into the market. Start up franchises within this market structure can begin operating
with relatively low initial investments (compared to other industries). This is not the case where
monopolies are concerned. There are numerous barriers to entry into monopolistic market
structures, capital being one of the most prominent barriers.
If a new franchise an offer the consumer a quality product at a reduced price, then the chances of
success are greatly increased. For example, Chanello s and Little Caesar s offer discounted pizza
prices, and maintain the same quality as other pizza chains. These companies spend less on
advertising and more on the actual product. That s a very important concept in this industry,
because their quality product at this discounted price gives them a niche in the market. Once a
company establishes a niche, they become more visible to the

Harvey Milk Informative Essay
If a bullet should enter my brain, let that bullet destroy every closet door. This quote was said by
a man who took that very close to home. Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in the
U.S., said this quote in one of his personal recordings. Harvey Milk is an important figure in history
because of his ability to persevere and inspire all those who are a part of the LGBTcommunity. Milk
is considered a hero because he refused to let his sexuality get in the way of his dreams and
inspired thousands to embrace their sexuality. Harvey Milk was born May 22, 1930 in Woodmere,
New York. He was a popular kid in his High School, and did many activities from football to opera.

former San Francisco Board Supervisor who had issues with Milk s sexuality and political
decisions. Not to mention, White also killed San Francisco mayor George Moscone just seconds
before Milk. Daniel White was only given five years for the assassinations due to the defense
that he had depression caused by consuming too much sugar. This was known as the Twinkie
Defense , and was later banned (Cloud). Even though the death was terrible, it caused thousands
of gay people to come out in respect to Harvey. Also, there were many gay riots after Daniel White
s miniscule conviction. After his death thousands of people had a candlelight vigil in his respects

  • 2. The Road to Bankruptcy of Detroit City Essays The inevitable is no less a shock because it is inevitable ~ Jamaica Kincaid Founded in 1701 by nearly 100 French settlers, Pontchartrain du Detroit was not doomed to bankruptcy. Located near epicenters of trade including the Canadian Border and the Detroit River and rich in resources Detroit, from a geographic sense, was a city established on lands destined to prosper. Turning into an industrial powerhouse in the 20th century, the city saw an enormous boom in both population and industrial prosperity with the growth of the iron stove, railroad car, and ship building industries. It wasn t until auto manufacturing renaissance initiated with the founding of Henry Ford Co. in 1910 that Detroit began it s nearly 100 year long descent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first factor in Detroit s collapse was the undeniable success of the auto industry. The expansion of the big three auto producers, Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors led the charge. In addition to dominating the auto industry, the big three were largely responsible for the success of local business throughout Detroit. Direct suppliers towards the auto companies themselves, and the subsequent services provided to the auto workers and their families composed the majority of Detroit business. The rapid expansion of the auto industry resulted in the industry s decentralization with the city limits of Detroit and caused the expansion of the outlying areas surround Detroit. The decentralization of industry had profound effects on the geography and on the population of the city. The movement of jobs out of the city accelerated the process of suburbanization, as autoworkers who could move followed their jobs. This trend is demonstrated by Census data, showing that following the creating of new auto plants outside the city of Detroit resulted in the total population dropping by nearly 300,0000 citizens by 1960. Following this decentralization, the auto industry suffering from international competition and rising oil prices, was unable to sustain the levels of economic output seen in years prior; and as a result, became a less desirable place to live for both workers looking to relocate and current residents. This table illustrates the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scott Fitzgerald The Color Purple, was released in 1985 and was set in the early until middle of the 1900s, it was one of the first featured movies to openly discuss the topic of domestic violence as a main part of the film. This has been very significant because it sets a standard of normalizing domestic violence in the characters lives, which Walker was able to show and develop through Celie and how she mistreatment in the hands of her stepfather and husband. In addition, a powerful message about how people who have been oppressed can unite together to overcome their oppressors. By the character finding out who she is and taking value in what she can become, this movie shows a feminist power. While Celie was searching for truth, she comes to realize that the patriarchal culture she went through in the South is abusive to all women. She learns that women can be equal to men in in matters of love and finance, power, and in knowledge, when she met Shug and they escape from Albert. Near the end of the movie, when Celie returns to Georgia, she isn t submissive and weak anymore; On the contrary, she has become a competent, self confident woman who knows she can be satisfied without depending on anybody else but herself. • 4. Essay about Details of the Sarbanes Oxley Act 2002 An auditor s role in an audit is very important. An auditor must be able to collect enough evidence to supports their finding, and also be on the lookout for fraud. Company s may or may not know the law, but it is the job to know the law, and be able to educate and report findings properly. Since the Sarbanes Oxley Act, there have been provisions that have directly affected auditors. This paper will include the details of the Sarbanes Oxley Act, how ethics and independence have affected auditors, as well implementation of new standards based on the Sarbanes Oxley Act. The Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002, provided changes in the regulations of the issuers in the public structures in the United States, as well as non United States issuers.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Foreign private issuers must maintain internal control over financial reporting, and they must evaluate the effectiveness and changes of the internal control at the end of the company s fiscal year that may affect the financial reporting. The main goal of the Sarbanes Oxley Act is to increase oversight over financial reporting and financial control (Cohen Broadsky 2004). Ethics are a major issue which is a reason why the Sarbanes Oxley Act was implemented. Before the Act, firms focused on growth but not as much on professional values. Revenue was the driving factor in auditing firms, and auditors were required to find new clients, keep existing clients, and cross selling. There were also penalties for not obtaining these requirements which could lead to termination (Jones III Norman 2006). Since the Act many organizations have now implemented a code of conduct (ethics) which sets standards of how an auditor is supposed to act or a place to go to seek advice on handling different situations. The code of conduct or ethics can be viewed as a way an organization wants one to act or behave (Canary Jennings 2007). Since implementation ethics is being taught more in college classes, and the reason for this is because of the huge scandals that have occurred. One study showed that the key leadership roles in a company often have a MBA, so teaching ethics will reach those leaders, and possibly prevent future ethical dilemmas (Sulivan, D. 2010). ... The Destructive Sprawl of the Suburbia on the Environment Growing up in Northern Toronto, it had never occurred to me that the neighbourhood I was living in was planned long before my neighbors or I decided to move and build this a community. As I grew older and I started to notice new areas being built I noticed that from afar those hundreds of houses were being built and organized in preparation for hundreds of families. Personally, I am interested in the development of subdivisions and the suburbs due to my family owning a property around the area of Lake Simcoe. Abraham Levitt, an American entrepreneur, established a community in Nassau County, Long Island. Levitt converted former farmland into a suburban community where thousands of individuals could find housing. Approximately, 17,000 houses were built and sold or rented to middle income families (Naish, 2014). Among the American population, there was a desire for individual freedom following World War II. One being able to attain a large living space and accumulate material wealth became engrained in the American Dream. Many realized that the suburbs and living in planned subdivisions of land was an affordable option. This led to the growth of suburbia throughout the late 20th century. These same desires are what allow the suburbs to flourish today. The US Census Bureau published in 2002 The Demographic Trends of the 20th Century. In the 20th century, the American population grew from 76 million to 281 million, with 80% of the 281 million living in urban areas. It is the suburbs that represented the largest degree of growth. Suburbia houses over 50% of the American people (Hobbs et al., 2014). While providing high quality housing for millions of people across North America, the sprawl of Suburbia has harmed the ... His mother and father were peasant farmers and his father taught Mikhail how to use a combine harvester. When he was a teenager he drove a tractor to help his familyout financially. He excelled in school and actually enjoyed learning, so his father urged him to continue his educationafter high school. Mikhail was accepted at the Moscow University due to his excellent academic record. He graduated in 1955 with a law degree from Moscow University cum laude. Unlike the leaders who had come before him, Gorbachev was willing to be more open to change. That willingness would help bring an end to communism in Eastern Europe. Mikhail Gorbachev also aided in the fall of the Berlin Wall and helped bring about the reunification of Germany. • 7. Vulvovaginitis Essay Vulvovaginal candidiasis is one of the most prevalent vaginal infections and represents, approximately 40% 50% of all cases of infectious vulvovaginitis [22]. The prevalence of RVVC among childbearing women and its importance as an Egyptian public health problem make an interest to continue research on such cases to add deep knowledge on RVVC and to understand the behavior of its pathogen and its epidemiology within Egyptian patients [23]. RVVC and its control by MBL was studied previously, but unfortunately none of the published papers discussed such cases in Egyptian patients. In an attempt to fill this gap, this study was designed on 118 childbearing Egyptian women to find out new therapeutic strategy for RVVC. The suspected Candida ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, some investigators found that MBL serum level was higher in RVVC cases when compared it to controls indicating that MBL might be defensive against RVVC [13]. On the contrary, other studies reported that MBL level was lower in RVVC cases compared to controls [12, 32]. Nevertheless, they depended on measurement of MBL in vaginal fluid while in the present study, MBL was measured in serum. From practical point of view, determination of MBL level in vaginal discharge is technically too difficult to perform and to standardize. Even more, the entity of vaginal fluid is changeable throughout menstrual period [33]. The present study could find an association between MBL2 exon 1 codon 54 polymorphism and susceptibility to RVVC. Carriage of mutant allele B was more frequent in women with RVVC (16.1%) than in controls (6%). In previous studies, MBL2 codon 54 polymorphism has been associated with increased frequency of RVVC in Latvian, Brazilian, Chinese, and Belgium [12, 32, 34, 35] but not Italian patients [31]. In the present study, analysis of genital hygiene behaviors among wild MBL genotypes estimated that bad genital hygiene behaviors increased the risk of RVVC by 3.47 times while the risk of RVVC has been elevated to 18.67 times in the presence of mutant MBL genotypes. These results supported the fact that RVVC is a monomicrobial; however, it is multifactorial disease in origin [36]. Moreover, good genital hygiene behaviors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Synthesis Of T-Pentyl Chloride Lab Report Introduction: The purpose of this experiment was to synthesize t pentyl chloride from the reaction of t pentyl alcohol and concentrated HCl. This reaction occurred through an SN1 reaction, a unimolecular nucleophilic substitution reaction. This was a First Order Rate Reaction where the rate of t pentyl chloride was dependent only on the concentration of t pentyl alcohol. After the reaction was completed, the products were achieved via 3 liquid liquid extractions and then after by simple distillation. In the liquid liquid extractions a solute was transferred from one solvent to another. Then in the simple distillation the miscible liquids or the solution, was separated by differences in boiling points. After this the product was determined through infrared spectroscopy. Procedure: Isolation of Crude Product A mixture of 22 ml... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the process, extraction and distillation techniques were used. The theoretical amount of t pentyl chloride was 17.358g, while 15.78 g was the actual amount produced which gave a percent yield of 90.9%. An error occurred while performing the experiment, the filtered dried product in the distillation process was placed in the wrong flask. Due to this that part of the experiment had to be redone and the new filtered product had some aqueous solution in it, which caused the boiling point to be under the specified temperature. The boiling point then was at 50 в„ѓ compared with the expected range of 79 84 в„ѓ. The IR spectrum used above was from another group s results. The experimental IR spectrum has more prominent peaks in the 3000 cm 1 range compared to the expected IR spectrum. Nonetheless, the experimental IR spectrum resembles the expected IR spectrum in the sense that the peaks are closely around the same wavenumber range. This is probably due to the product being distilled at the right boiling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Prices And The Federal Reserve s Control Of The Money... The early to mid eighties presented a challenge to the fed. A combination of falling oil prices and the Federal Reserve s control of the money supply, helped to slow down an inflation that had been largely out of control in the previous decade. By the mid eighties, the economy had bounced back and the United States was entering into one of the longest periods of consistent and sustainable economic growth since the second world war. Along with this growth, the annual inflationrate did not exceed 5%. Other problems still loomed on the horizon though. The agriculture industry still had issues only to be compounded by the droughts of 1986 and 1988. Congress consistently ran considerable deficits throughout the 1980 s. The deficits grew ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This did cause some inflation, but not to the level that the oil crisis from a decade earlier had. Fears became a reality as the 1990 s approached. The budget deficits on the federal level began to rise again. At $220 billion in 1990, the deficit had grown three times in size since 1980. Bush was dedicated to curbing the deficit, believing that America could not continue to be a leader in the world without doing so. In the wake of a struggle with Congress, Bush was forced by the Democratic majority in Congress to raise tax revenues and as a result, many Republicans felt betrayed. After all, Bush had promised no new taxes in his 1988 campaign. Fiscal Policy Monetary policy is controlled by the Federal Reserve, an independent agency from the executive branch. However, the administration does have an obvious effect. The most obvious is the appointment and reappointment of Alan Greenspan. At the time this may have seemed like a tough decision, but in hind sight the decision could not have been any better. When it was time for his reappointment from President Clinton, he was not regarded as the savior he is now. Many officials from the Bush administration blamed him for the recession of 90 91. Not to mention the fact that Greenspan is a conservative Republican. It would have been common sense to assume that Clinton would put someone who shared his political philosophy over the highest bank in the land. The fact that Clinton ... • 10. What Does It Mean To Say That Art Is A Lie Pablo Picasso once said Art is a lie that brings us closer to the truth . From this statement a lot can be interpreted leading to different ideas and I think most prominent is the relationship between art, the truth and lies. Pablo Picasso makes two assumptions in his assertion, the first concerning the first section which addresses the fact that art is a lie. The second assumption is made whereby art is given a purpose brings us closer to the truth which creates a paradox that truth can develop and exist in a lie. Furthermore his statement of the two contradictory suggestions leads us to understand that art is a representation of the truth or truths and reality which are perceived by humans as lies. Leading to another question on the context of his statement. To what extent does context affect our understanding of Knowledge? A very good example that reinforces this is The Matrix , which is a well known movie series that greatly deals with the idea of perception vs reality whereby people what people perceive to be the truth and reality is really just an illusion and deception. I am writing to you regarding your stance on the issue of gun control in light of the recent Parkland shooting. As a high school student and constituent, I would like to thank you for your support on recent bills to protect students security and safety by increasing the age of purchase of semiautomatic rifles and authorizing measures to increase safety programs, specifically H.R. 5909 and H.R. 4909. As a student through a number of major school shootings across the nation, including Sandy Hook in 2012 and now the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, it is worrisome that measures to prevent these acts of violence have not been effective. We must also remember the numerous smaller shootings at schools and the unsafe environment that these shootings bring to schools. In this advanced age that we live in today, it is difficult to understand why school shootings are still happening. Immigrants went to America because of the depression in Europe so people wanted work, and America was seen as a place of freedom and opportunity, otherwise known as The American Dream . The play is mainly based on the difference between old and new, between America and Italy. This basis is relied on and is brought up, at many points in the play. He is suggesting that Eddie will face fate later in the play, and watched it run its blood course This is letting the audience know that someone in the play will die, and by using juxtaposition, Alfieri is hinting that the person who will die, will be Eddie. By doing this, Alfieri gives evidence that he does give the audience clues about what will happen later in the play. When Eddie first goes to see Alfieri to ask him for advice, this is the first time the audience actually sees Alfieri as a lawyer. There are many occasions in my life that stand out, many even prepared me to be the woman I am today. One of those moments, the day my daughter was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. That day was my first lesson in patience and fueled my ability in research. Yes, I admit I was very nervous and concerned. I educated myself by reading numerous books. You could even go as far as to say I was obsessed with everything I heard and read about ADHD. I wanted to become knowledgeable and not just take the word of others. I became so involved in the research I felt as though I knew everything there was to know about the disorder, not true; each child is unique in their own right, everything I could get my hands on, no measure of research could explain or prepare me for what my daughter was dealing with. In turn, I put the instruction guide away and learned from my daughter, her feelings, her actions, her triggers, and her frustrations. I wanted to allow Taylor, my daughter, to teach me her Mother, what she needed from me, no longer what her diagnosis needed. I will say this, the journey has been long and rough. Various medications, issues at school, many trips to various Doctors, change of diet, isolation, and even Taylor s declination of self worth at times. Ballet was the first style I learned, and it made me fall in love with dance. My instructor this year often talks about what ballet was like when he danced (in the 1970s,) and also before then. One day, he explained to my class how girls used to dance on their toes before pointe shoes were invented. I found it fascinating, so I decided to research more about it after class. As I was looking up the history of the pointe shoe, I came across some websites that explained the history of ballet and where it originated. Even after having danced for eleven years, I realized there is so much that I do not know about it. There is more to ballet than going to class and doing performances. • 16. The Importance Of Women s Rights And The Fight For Equality Amelia Earhart once said, Women, like men, should try to do the impossible. And when they fail, their failure should be a challenge to others (Earhart, n.d.). To me this statement means whether we are women or men we shall forever challenge ourselves because when we fail, it should give us the motivation to strive to accomplish more. For generations women have tried to be equal to men. From generations before us, women were housewives and only housewives. They took care of their children, men, and chores. However, there are now women in our military, there are some women are business owners, chief executives, and much more. However, there is still more changes that need to be made where women and men can be considered equal in all countries. Women s rights and the fight for equality has come a long way in the United States. Decades before us the Women s suffrage came into play (History, 2010). It was a way for women to stand up and protest for their rights as a human because no matter If you re a man or a woman everyone should have equal equality. However, it took awhile for the women to be heard, but when they did, they passed the law for women to have the right to vote in 1920. Which is known as the 19th Amendment (History, 2010). Before Andrew Jackson, who in which was the 7th president of the United States, there had only been presidents that did nothing but follow imposes of George Washington. The presidents were John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe and John Quincy Adams. These presidents did not involve themselves with wars that occurred in Europe, they had no political parties, and they did nothing about the relations with the Indians. They also kept the Bank of America that President George Washington created. In the other hand Jackson is known for the Trail of Tears, he ended, the Bank of America and initiated a two party political system. To initiate, one of the reasons that Jackson marked a new age in American political history is the Trial of Tears which occurred from 1831 to 1838. Gun Firearms And Gun Regulations Essay According to Ballot.fyi 63 , written by a group of people called Citizen Citizens, proposition 63 pushes for more stricter firearms and ammunition regulations. A background check and the approval of the Department of Justice would be needed to buy ammunition. Large capacity ammunition firearms are banned and must be properly disposed of. Majority of ammunition sales transaction must be through licensed ammunition vendors, recorded and presented to the Department of Justice. If any firearms or ammunition is stolen or missing, it must be reported to law enforcement. People, who have been found guilty of stealing firearms, are banned from owning them. The Department of Justice will take part in the federal National Instant Criminal Background Check System as well (Chion et al, 63 ). Proposition 63 should be passed. If it is passed, it will help lessen gun violence and keep citizens safe. It will keep firearms out of convicted felons and dangerous individuals that should not be owning any firearms. • 21. Euripides Support of Women’s Rights Essay Euripides Support of Women s Rights One can hardly deny that in Euripides plays women are often portrayed as weak, uncertain, and torn between what they must do and what they can bring themselves to do. Other women appear to be the root of grave evils, or simply perpetrators of heinous crimes. In a day when analysis of characters and plot had yet to be invented, it is easy to see why he might have been thought to be very much against women. However, when looking back with current understanding of what Euripides was doing at the time, armed with knowledge of plot devices and Socratic philosophy, this argument simply does not hold up. In fact, a very strong argument can be made to the opposite, that Euripides was in fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To better understand this difference, a more in depth explanation of the art of tragedy is necessary. Tragedy was unique of all the forms of Greek art; it was seen as the only combination of the two classes of art. These two classes are named after Apollo and Dionysus, the two Greek art deities (Nietzsche 1). The Apollonian influence was seen as the art of things of form and structure, the molding or creation of something tangible. The Dionysian, on the other hand, was seen as the more plastic arts, music in particular, where the art lies as much in the performance as the conception. The Apollonian was seen as a creation brought on by a dream like state, perhaps induced by a god or sleep, while the Dionysian is usually attributed to high spirits, such as drunkenness (Nietzsche 1). As stated before, Tragedy was the unique combination of these two art influences. The Apollonian influence is seen in the writing of the play, as well as in its tangible aspects, the stage and costumes, for instance. The Dionysian art is represented by the music and by the exclusive nature of each performance (Nietzsche 2). The way Nietzsche saw it, the epitome of this was represented by the work of Sophocles and Aeschylus (Nietzsche 42). Euripides represented something contrary to the art of tragedy in the way it had been previously implemented. It is well documented that Euripides consorted with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Rhetorical Devices In A Modest Proposal USE OF SATIRICAL STRATEGIES IN A MODEST PROPOSAL BY JONOTHAN SWIFT In his modest proposal, Jonathan Swift uses logical fallacies, repetition, metaphors, humor, parallelism, sarcasm and satire. The devices are effectively used to examine the attitude of the rich people towards the poor in the society. Jonathan starts by mocking the mothers for strolling in the streets begging for alms instead of looking for jobs and putting something on the tables for children to eat. Jonathan predicts that when the kids grow, they might turn out to be thieves as nobody taught these kids to earn an honest living. He uses logical fallacies to try and make the proposal modest though his line of thinking is not correct. He points out that a year old child is nourishing and wholesome food. That a healthy child is delicious food to be prepared using any method of food preparation is outrageous. He proposes that 20,000 children preserved for bleeding purposes. This is dehumanizing children and comparing them to animals. He outlines how slaughterhouses should be build and butchers be employed to do the slaughtering of children. In his exaggeration, he goes to the point of saying that the kids will be roasted like pigs. ( ) Swift also uses irony when he says that there are about 200,000 couples whose wives are just breeders. ( ) He proposes that an arrangement is made to the rear and provide for these children. Here he compares women to animals because human beings are not bred for commercial purposes. Here he dehumanizes human beings by use of satire. He gives reasons as to why this is a good idea. First, he says that the method will decrease the number of useless Catholics in Ireland. Secondly, he claims that the government will earn from exports of the meat from Ireland. The mothers will also earn something from this breeding and a burden will be lifted off their shoulders. He also foresees that the new delicacy will be welcomed in the taverns. The marriage institution will also be enhanced because mothers will put in more effort in raising the best kids because they would fetch good prices in the markets. Mike Gaworecki mentions in his article that during this past month the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration initiated a rule limiting seafood imports from different countries that do not meet the United States new bycatch standards. Bycatch is a term that means catching unwanted species when intending to fishfor a different type of species. On a daily basis multiple dolphins, whales, and other unwanted animals are being captured because of inappropriate or ill suited forms of netting and traps. By implementing this rule the United States government hopes to prevent and reduce future cases of inappropriate capture. NOAA claims that they feel this is necessary because they want to enforce more restrictions on fishery related marine mammal deaths, while influencing other countries to improve on their fishingmethods. The reason for this sudden ruling was because several conservation groups joined together to sue the American government for lack of improvement throughout the years on fishery imports from other countries. By losing this ruling, the United States government has been forced to change their standards in order to support a previous act they made in 1972, The Marine Mammal Protection Act. This act originally provided protection for all marine mammals and included their protection of population sustainability. All of the words written down on paper are one dimensional; they are flat. It is only when an actor gives those words a voice that the character begins to come alive. An actor adds all of the other essential layers to the backbone, and suddenly, there are movements, expressions and emotions to fit with the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is the beauty about theatre. Each performer has a different interpretation of a character, because they draw upon their own personal experiences in the attempt to connect with their character on a deeper level. This is why musicals live on, and are repeatedly performed on Broadway. Although the characters and the plot are ever present, the actors will change from year to year, or sometimes even from show to show. Therefore, not one show will be the exact same. Every performer brings something different to their role, connecting with their character in a way that no one else ever will; that is unique only to them. This rings true for my performance in the musical Fame. Having a double cast, each character was shared between two people, thus allowing for differentiation in the way in which the characters were interpreted and played. For example, I played Iris s character in a way that was unique to how Katie Smith played the character. Even though we spoke the exact same lines, we interpreted these lines differently, making them our own and molding a character from our own thoughts, ideas, and personal experiences. Making these text to self connections (relating one s own experiences to a text, or in this case, a script) is essential when acting. To truly relate to the character in which one is acting, one must draw upon their own ideas and connect them to their character s feelings, emotions, behavior, etc. Forming these connections allows for one to step inside the character s shoes, and to truly become that specific character. In my personal experience of acting as Iris in the musical Fame, I felt as though Iris and I shared great similarities, and this is what helped me to relate with her character on an emotional level. Although I am not a talented ballet dancer who never does anything but dance, I could relate to Iris s hardworking and perfectionist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When Turner was 10 years old, he lived with an uncle at Brentford, Middlesex, where he attended school. His father sold Turners drawings as early as 1787 because they were so professional. In 1789, Turner started at the Royal Academy schools where he began creating his watercolors. The strong power of nature is the main theme that brings greatness or sublime that inspires our thoughts. The moonlight s contrast is delicate to the flickering lantern on the boat. After Fishermen at Sea, in 1799, he was elected an associate of the Royal Academy at 24 years old; this being the youngest age a person can be elected. In 1802, Turner had the dignity of signing a collection of large pictures, resulting him to become an academician. Shortly after, he opened a private gallery to show his latest work. As he was traveling to search new ideas for art work in Wales, Yorkshire, the Midlands, Scotland, and the European continent; he crossed the dangerous ocean to Calasis. In his picture, Calais Pier (1802 03), he left an obvious sense of danger before his arrival. During his tour of France and Switzerland, he completed more than 400 drawings of scenes that impressed him. • 39. Richard Cory Essay The American poet, Edwin Arlington Robinson wrote the narrative poem Richard Cory, which first appeared in his second poetry collection, The Children of the Night and recalls the economic depression of 1893. Throughout the poem, Robinson describes an envied, wealthy man who is seen as the idol and poster child of the perfect life. But to their surprise, Richard Corycommits suicide, which teaches the townspeople a great lesson: that material, wealth, normality, and fancy things are not what bring a person eternal happiness. He displays the theme through using imagery, diction, and situational irony. Throughout the poem, Richard Cory appears to have it all: the looks, the wealth and the status. Everyone in the town wants to be just like him due to the perfection which he seems to display. The whole town stops and only thinks of the money he has and how amazing his life would be, but they do not realize what he is feeling or never stop to really talk to him. In the reality, he lacks happiness, the key ingredient to having it all. The irony of the poem is that this man, who seems to have everything perceived to bring happiness, kills himself because he is unhappy with his life. Six lines in the poem begins with and. The repetition of this word helps to build an idea of how Richard Cory looked. But more importantly, with each repetition it places him higher and higher on this pedestal of power and respect that the townspeople have placed him on. This use of repetition helps build towards the climax and creates a story behind the climax. This technique also builds more impact and shock of the last line of the poem, teaching the reader and townspeople that material, wealth, normality, and fancy things are not what bring a person eternal ... • 40. Evaluation Of The Cross Site Scripting Attacks A vast array of techniques is implemented to counter the cross site scripting attacks (XSS) that only seems to increase in number and complexity day by day. However, all the prevention practices to avert the XSS attacks can be classified based upon the place it is deployed. Validation checks can be setup at server side, client side or at both end points. 1.Server Side Validation: Before any data is passed to the server or the database, it needs to be systematically checked and validated to reduce any ambiguity, duplication and inconsistent data. Furthermore, server side validation can be further boosted by the input validation techniques and are capable of preventing XSS attacks. Bisht, Venkatakrishanan (2008) proposed several techniques to identify the HTML inputs as an XSS scripts as well as examined various causes a filtering and validation mechanism fail to identify incoming XSS attacks. A new framework was also proposed that is capable of identifying and blocking attacks coming in various forms. Called XSS Guard, they works by dynamically learning the set of scripts that a web application intends to create for any HTML request. • 41. The Use Of Cell Phones While Driving It is known that the use of cell phones while driving decreases driver awareness and overall road safety, and in response to this knowledge, some states have passed laws that have prohibited the use of handheld devices. However, there are no laws banning hands free cell phone usage, despite research claiming hands free devices are just as dangerous handheld devices, but does their usage distract drivers enough to the point where states should legally ban the total use cell phones while driving? The following will introduce arguments for both sides of this topic, one for hands free cell phone usage and the other against cell phones usage entirely. It should be illegal to use hands free devices while driving because research from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, the cell phone group rated themselves worse in driving performance before and after the simulator. This indicates that driver performance is impaired by cell phone use and drivers generally know their driving is worse when using hands free devices, therefore, the use of such devices should be illegal. Other evidence against hands free cell phone use while driving is simply that talking on hands free devices is just as bad as talking on handheld devices in relation to driver performance (Ishigami Klein, 2009). To determine this, Ishigami and Klein (2009) reviewed the results of several separate studies that investigated the impacts of handheld and hands free cell phone usage on the detection reaction times of drivers. These studies were: Abdel Aty (2003), Burns et al. (2002), Consiglio et al. (2003), Haigney et al. (2000), McEvoy et al. (2005), Patten et al. (2004), Redelmeier and Tibshirani (1997), Strayer and Johnson (2001), Strayer, Drews, and Crouch (2006), and TГ¶rnros and Boiling (2005, 2006). Consiglio et al. studied the effects of auditory distractions, such as cell phone, by measuring the reaction time of participants using a non driving, braking task where participants released an accelerator and applied the brakes if a red light were shown. The control group performed the task without auditory stimulation. Strayer and Johnson (2001) examined the effects of phone conversation on reaction time with a computer pursuit tracking task. ... • 42. Competition Vs. Monopoly Essay 1. Analyze the fast food industry from the point of view of perfect competition. Include the concepts of elasticity, utility, costs, and market structure to explain the prices charged by fast food retailers. Firms within the fast food industry fall under the market structure of perfect competition. Market structure is a classification system for the key traits of a market. The characteristics of perfect competition include: large number of buyers and sellers, easy entry to and exit from the market, homogeneous products, and the firm is the price taker. Many fast food franchises fit all or most of these characteristics. Competition within the industry as well as market supply and demand conditions set the price of products sold. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the current prices, firms may sell as much product as they want, thereby maximizing profits. This industry has a very high utility value. Utility is a measure of satisfaction or pleasure that is obtained from consuming a good or service. If consumers feel as if they get a good meal, at a good price, then they re satisfied. This customer satisfaction coupled with relatively low prices keeps the industry profitable. Another quality of perfect competition that may be overlooked, but is vital to this industry is the ease of entry into the market. Start up franchises within this market structure can begin operating with relatively low initial investments (compared to other industries). This is not the case where monopolies are concerned. There are numerous barriers to entry into monopolistic market structures, capital being one of the most prominent barriers. If a new franchise an offer the consumer a quality product at a reduced price, then the chances of success are greatly increased. For example, Chanello s and Little Caesar s offer discounted pizza prices, and maintain the same quality as other pizza chains. These companies spend less on advertising and more on the actual product. That s a very important concept in this industry, because their quality product at this discounted price gives them a niche in the market.
