The Great Influenza By John M. Barry
The book The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History, written by John M.
Barry, covers the progression of the Spanish influenza, especially in the United States. Barry
focuses not only on the influenza itself, though, but also on the social influences that allowed the
virus to flourish. The book covers how medical practices in the United States had risen up just in
time to combat the virus, but, due to societal issues and the war, the doctors struggled in areas
where they should have been successful. Although medicinetoday is comparatively more advanced,
that is a more recent change than one would like to think. For instance, not even 150 years ago,
Hippocrates and Galen would have recognized and largely agreed with most medical practices.
Barry addresses this topic of medical advancement at the beginning of his book by producing a
well researched, albeit a little too long, history of western medicine. He provides examples of
how medicine evolved from the teachings of Hippocrates, Galen, and Vesalius to a more modern
form of medicine. This was done in order to explain how prepared the medical community was in
the face of this impending virus. Unlike the other epidemics, the people of the early 19 century
should have been prepared to face the influenza with all of their exciting and new medical
equipment and practices, but there was something in their way of advancement universities. While
this new group of medical warriors, as

U.s. Attorney General And President John F. Kennedy
U.S. Attorney General and President John F. Kennedy confidant Robert F. Kennedy wrote
Thirteen Days as an account of the Cuban Missile Crisis, a 13 day power struggle from October
15 to October 28 1962 between the US and the Soviet Union over ballistic missile deployment in
Cuba by the Soviets. The peaceful removal of those missiles was both a challenge and a goal for
the Kennedy administration. The Cuban Missile Crisiswas arguably one of the most dangerous Cold
Waraffairs whose escalation would have led to a global nuclear war demise.
Both Harvard educated men and born into a wealthy, ambitious family, Robert and John Kennedy
were influenced by their father to become involved in politics and managed to do that very
successfully ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Three events are associated with the Cuban Missile Crisis: superpower tension, the domestic
situation in Cuba, and the Bay of Pigs incident. The ideological competition between Russia and the
U.S. was exemplified in the arms, nuclear and space race, the funding of anti Communists by the
U.S., the unsuccessful Vienna Summit of 1961 and the construction of the Berlin Wall.
In 1958, Kruschev had asked NATO to give up West Berlin to East Germany and by the summer of
1961, Kruschev and Kennedy met during the Vienna Summit, where Kruschev insisted upon East
German control over West Berlin. On August 13, the Soviets and East Germans built a wall that
limited free means of access between the Western and Eastern zones. American and Soviet forces
confronted each other at Checkpoint Charlie, which controlled the passage across.
The U.S. eventually agreed with the wall s construction in November 1961, resolving the Berlin
Crisis. However, Kruschev had not yet gotten what he wanted. According to him, the installation of
Soviet missiles in Cuba could be to negotiate over Berlin. Kennedy might replace the removal of
Soviet Cuban missiles with retreat from West Berlin.

Fathers In Anney s Bastard Out Of Carolina
The role of a parent is a strange, yet all too familiar tradition that is the same within every culture.
A child is born from procreation, and then raised within a family system usually made up of the
biological parents. The goal as a parent is to raise this infant into adulthood by providing them
encouragement, support, and teaching them the necessary skills for life. Seems very black and
white, correct? What happens when a parentknows they cannot provide these necessities for the
child? In the novel, Bastard Out of Carolina, Anney knew she could not provide a secure life for
Bone, and therefore abandoned her child to live her own life.
From Bone s point of view, readers can gather that Anney is a hard working, strong, and caring
mother. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anney becomes a single mother very young, having Bone at age fifteen, and then remarries to
Lyle Parsons with a new baby by nineteen. The new couple give each other pet names, respect
each other, and Lyle, though childish, promises to adopt Bone when they have the money (6).
Unfortunately, Lyle dies in an accident and Anney is forced yet again to be a single mother with
two girls. It is really no surprise that Anney looks at men with the thought of how fit they would
be as a husband to her. He d make a good daddy, she imagined, a steady man... I need a husband,
she thought, turned her back, and wiped her face. Yeah, and a car and a home and a hundred
thousand dollars (13). Notice how Anney associates a husband or a father for her children to the
other needs of her life. She does not want a husband per se, but she needs one to help provide a
stable life for her children. Anney s third husband, Glen, appears to be all of these things at first,
while satisfying her sexual needs as well. Because Glen has ...got a horse dick, the men joke that
no woman would ever leave Daddy Glen (62). And Anney never does leave Glen even though he
throws tantrums, cannot keep a job, beats and eventually brutally rapes Bone as well. Anney
possibly stays with Glen because of how she was brought up in the Boatwright

2015 Hill Lancet Summary
The 2015 Hill Lancet study was based on concerns about the increased costs and length of stay
associated with falls during hospital stays. Specifically, the study investigated the effectiveness of
individualized falls prevention education for patients at the ward level of a hospital, backed up by
training and feedback for staff. The following is a critique of this study using the Riegelman
MAARIE framework.
Method: The study question investigated was; what impact will individualized fall prevention
education, supported by training and feedback for staff reduce have on the number of falls during
hospital stays? The study was a pragmatic study of patients admitted to one of 8 rehabilitation units
in general hospitals that were over sixty years old, with a projected hospital stay of at least three
days, and had basic cognitive functioning. 3,606 patients admitted were admitted to the eight units
during the study period, with 1,983 in the control group and 1623 in the intervention group. The
pragmatic nature of the study is a strength given the nature of the intervention. However, the
investigators do not explain the logic of limiting the study to patients over age 60, with a length of
stay of at least three days, and this restricts the extrapolation of the results to these groups.
Assignment: The study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The null hypothesis of no change or an increase in the number of falls is not in the CI indicating
statistical significance. Also, lending to the statistical significance was the fact that additional
statistical testing was performed to account for the nature of the cluster randomization. These tests
determined that the trial would have more than 80% to detect a 30% reduction in falls. Statistical
testing was also completed to account for seasonal fluctuations in patient volume. The rigorous
nature of the statistical testing in this study is a

Alternative Press In Vietnam War
t first my paper was going to be around what happen to the Vietnam people after the Vietnam war
and their struggles to migrate to other countries. This seemed to be a very interesting topic to
cover to know where are they now and how they feel about the war. Located a woman in her late
40s from Vietnam, her family has migrated to American when she was just 5 years old. This topic
seemed to be very sensitive for her to talk about, I brought to much pain to talk about her parents
that didn t survive the Vietnam war. After this failed attempt to interview a Vietnamese migrant, I
wondered how the press was reporting out to the world of what was really happening in Vietnam.

I just do not agree with the government hiding facts to help get what they want. In today s age
more then 30 years from the Vietnam War, our local and national leaders still employ the tactics
to keep the public in the dark in order to achieve their agendas. Bush jr told the American public
that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction however no such weapons were ever found. This
conflict stretch over several years and while it did dismantle the Iraqi government, we were still
over there for reasons not disclosed to the general public. This year alone we have dropped
bombs on areas and were told whatever the government wanted us to hear. The fact is, we have
no idea what happened in the nights were we riddled cities with bombs. The media came back

Enterprise Architecture Enables Processes Paper
Introduction Enterprise Architecture is defined as the representation of all the components,
processes and policies of an organization. Architecture is the process of moving a business vision
and strategy into effective change, communicating the current capabilities and rethinking the
principles and models that describe the future state of the company and facilitate their evolution

The organization can identify methods that need to be change or improved. In addition, the
architecture allows the organizations to recognize current and future objectives
(Schekkerman,2003). The concept development phase begins the life cycle when a need is
identified and requires developing a system or change a legacy system identified. During this phase,
the need is identified it is documented then a feasibility study is conducted. The approach selected
should be approved and also funds to be used in the planning phase. The EA enhances and allows
the concept development phase. It has an adaptable documentation option that can be used to
document the discover needs. The planning phase starts after identifying the project and allocating
resources to the project, and then a project plan is created. The plan records the process that will be
used to solve the problem. The plan states the process and resources to be used in the project. The
requirement definition phase permits organizations to set and define the functional user
requirements for a project. The functional user requirements are stated in the functional
requirements document. The requirements are grouped in categories such as data, system
performance and security. The requirements are also assemble in terms of maintainability and

Teams For A Team Based Organization
INTRODUCTION
In many organizations, employees work together in structures commonly known as teams.
Organizations utilize teams for a number of reasons (e.g., greater output, quality enhancements, or
better decisions) and give them a range of labels depending on factors such as the members
comprising the team {ex. managers, front line workers} or what the team is supposed to achieve
{ex. to make decisions, develop a new product, deliver a service}. Some of the many types of teams
found in organizations include top management teams, cross functional teams { Bikson, 1996}, self
managing work teams {Cohen, Ledford, Spreitzer, 1996, Orsburn, Moran, Musselwhite, Zenger,
1990}, international task forces { Waite, 1998} and virtual teams {Hiltz, Johnson, Turoff, 1986,
Lumsden }. Despite investing heavily in teams, many organizations appear far from satisfied with
their decision to become team based (Dumaine, 1994). This is mainly due to the overall
effectiveness of their teams and how their effectiveness tends to vary. At one end of the continuum,
teams can be highly performing and produce outputs beyond the capabilities of its individual
members. At the other end, however, they can fail dismally. Outputs for example are not produced
on time or in some instances, not at all. Further, when outputs are delivered, they can be of such a
poor quality, the reputation of the organization and the team members are effected. In the worst
case scenario, these poor quality outputs can

Cathryn Hunter Child Abuse
Finding out that the mother of your two year old boy have been stabbed your child to death
what is the protocol of this horrendous event? Well of course to divorce her, but to find
information on how to prevent this fatal form of abuse. There are many victims of abuse no
matter what age they are it s a terrible act, but children will remember throughout their life. The
bad nights of the child constantly remembering their perpetrator and the action they took upon
them. To have it be someone near to you being affected by this is heartbreaking, all of the pain
they have to embrace. I argue that people should be educated on the negative effects that a child
can be at stake when he or she is faced with abuse.
In the article that I examine Effects of Child Abuse and Neglect for Children and Adolescents the

A Brief Note On Anorexia Nervosa And Bulimia Nervosa
Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa Eating disorders are classified as mental disorders and can
lead to life threatening damage. It is important to manage eating disorders to prevent health effects.
There are many different possibilities for patients with disorders. Common treatments for eating

health effects. A dental hygienist has an advantage to see the inside of the mouth for possible
trauma, erosion, and malnutrition. It is common for patients to be in denial of the situation. A

patient feeling attacked. It is important to tell the difference in eating disorders. Most eating
disorders all appear to be anorexia until further signs and symptoms are observed. The two types
of eating disorders being discussed in this paper are anorexia nervosaand bulimia nervosa. On
average, women are more likely to experience an eating disorder. Although, men are not
eliminated from eating disorders. Eating disorders pertain to a patient who is unsatisfied with one

Notes On Sea Kayaking Force Wind
Kayaking
When everyone hears the word kayaking they all think about one type of boat and one type of
kayaking and they are sea kayaking and a sit on top. Let s talk about sea kayaking before boats and
different types of equipment shall we? Sea kayaking to most kayakers is an unknown place. People
who kayak don t generally think of going out on the sea. Either because they think that the tides
will drag them out or that it is to much work to move your boat, to these people I say that this is
absolutely not true and it is no harder to move on the sea than to move on a flowing river.
admittedly on a river you don t have big waves but still there is next to no difference in how hard
it is to move, and as for the tides unless you irresponsible and decide to go out in gala force wind,
then the only thing you have to think about is the current not the tide. Once you understand all of
these variables you can have tons of fun out there after all the sea is the biggest white water centre
there is.
Away from sea kayaking let s look at some of the other aspects of kayaking. There are many
different types of kayaking there is white water kayaking that is all to do with what is basically
throwing yourself down the most wildest rivers you can and praying you come out the other end
with yourself and all your stuff intact. There is also slalom which is going through gates whilst
going down a rapid, and then there is freestyle. Now personally I like freestyle it is not really the

Explain The Five Key Points Made By The Speaker
1)What are 5 key points made by the speaker? Write a short paragraph for each one The first key
point that the author made is that there is a lot of people in the world that are non informed
about what was going on in the world. He says that people tends to think that things are
becoming worst or didn t change which is not true. He said that there is a need to communicate
because the data of what happening in the world is well aware. He compares the life expectancy
and fertility rate of many countries since 1960. He found out that they is a lot of countries that
have improved in term of life expectancy. As example China and India has improved and are
moving toward better health care and small families like develop countries. He also compared
the income distribution in the world and found out that there wasn t a gap between rich and poor
anymore and that there were a lot of countries that were in the middle and had 24% of the
income. Looking at the graph, the actual distribution was mounded shaped while it used to be a
bump. He shows that it is dangerous to use average data because there is a lot of differences
between countries and that policy makers have to take that into consideration while designing the
laws for one region. He thinks that data should be used more often and that organization should be
will willing to release these information s and make it available to the rest of the world. 2)Read the

The Benefits Of Metropolitan Growth
A metropolitan refers to an area that comprises of a densely populated urban area and sparsely
populated surrounding regions that share infrastructures, housing, and industries. The growth of
metropolitan areas is essential for the nation and its citizens because they are the key political and
economic regions. Metropolitan covers one or more urban areas, towns, satellite cities, and rural
regions that are socially and economically joined to the urban areas. Various studies that had been
conducted regarding the development of metropolitan areas, particularly in the United States, have
found out that various factors have played a crucial role in fostering these developments. Some of
these factors include; crime, race, immigration, and design assimilation. It is, therefore, significant
to understand the benefits of metropolitan growth, who reaps them, the cost of metropolitan growth,
and who is responsible for paying these costs.
Benefits of Metropolitan Growth One of the benefits of metropolitan growth is that it brings unity
in the society. For instance, in the United States, it created unity between the American citizens and
the immigrants. Nicolaides and James assert that design assimilation, thus, was a facet of the
production of affluent suburban space, in which white and ethnic Asian suburbanites played
complicit roles (335). Asians accepting the prevailing designs shows that they were embracing the
American style. Connolly also postulates that the development of

The Human Rights Of A Kangaroo Than A Police Car Essay
In Southern Hills, one would better spend their time searching for a kangaroo than a police car. In
conjunction with the majority of white suburban neighborhoods, crime was virtually non existent,
facilities well maintained, and school children always had a full lunch bag. In simple terms, life
was good. Living in such a community meant I never felt as though my basic human rightswere
ever being violated because of my skin, gender, or religion. The extent of my knowledge
regarding human rights, while limited, derives from my concessions nature, that I acquired
from typical Southern Hills schooling. Being fortunate enough to have been born in a
community safe from world atrocities has allowed me to view the world in a much broader
sense while simultaneously providing me the understanding of how anyone, regardless of
upbringing, can begin to change such daunting issues. Two blocks from my house was Slavens
k 8, one of the fastest growing and top rated schools in all of Colorado. For 10 years, I was the
beneficiary of an exemplary teaching and an overwhelmingly caring environment. However,
Slavens did lack one fundamental aspect of a continually expanding world: an utter lack of
diversity. For proper prospective, the 90 s show Friends was worlds more diverse than Slavens.
Such is a crucial reasoning behind my initial views on human rights. As far as I could tell, not only
was the entire world Caucasian, human rights were guaranteed, their ability to be harmed was

The devil is a supernatural being thought of by Christians as an entity of pure evil. However,
there is no evidence proving the existence of the devil, but there are certainly testimonials of
people who have claimed to see Hell. So lets hypothetically say that the devil is real. That would
mean that the horrifying testimonials are actually true, which may lead one to wonder why people

Even though structurally Satanists just like Protestants, were essentially a protest or a rebellion

religions is a example of rebellion There are many ways to rebel of course, but what seem to be on
the news are murders . A recent high school dropout named Jose Reyes was on the news
February 11th of this year. Jose was a high school dropout out who was using drugs such as

Age-Related Macular Degeneration
Kristi Guasis
Recent developments in the treatment of age related macular degeneration
Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is a common cause of irreversible blindness in the
elderly. AMD is characterized by the progression from early to intermediate stages of the disease.
The two major advanced forms are the geographic atrophy (GA) AMD and neovascular AMD. GA
or dry AMD is characterized by loss of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells and outer layers of
the neurosensory retina as well as the choriocapillaris. Neovascular or wet AMD is characterized by
the formation of choroidal neovascularization (CNV), the ingrowth of new blood vessels from the
choriocapillaris through Bruch s membrane into the sub pigment epithelium or subretinal ... Show

Anti VEGF therapy must be administered repeatedly, sometimes every month, over a long period
of time. As AMD is a chronic disease, patients need to return regularly for monitoring and
treatment visits. Real life observational studies have shown that this burden, along with adherence
aspects, often leads to undertreatment and subsequent visual loss. Recent studies indicate that,
despite optimal individualized treatment, visual function may slowly deteriorate due to other
AMD related disease processes. Additionally, there is not yet a treatment available to slow
progression of the nonexudative late stage dry manifestation of AMD, i.e., geographic atrophy
(GA). One of the challenges in developing AMD therapies is the lack of good animal models.
Mice and rats among other distinguishing features do not have a macula or a foveola. The
neovascular phenotype can be simulated to some extent by laser induced CNV animal models;
however, this wound model has no aspects of aging changes in outer retinal layers, the RPE, or
Bruch s membrane. Animal models for GA are also limited. Disease modeling could be a

Today s professional athletes make ridiculous salaries and are only increasing year after year.
Every year we hear how a professional athlete just signed a contract worth a record amount. Then
about the same time next year we hear about another athlete is signing a new contract worth

that salaries and wages are typically based on the value of ones work. In today s society where

It is remarkable how an athlete is paid millions of dollars to appear for a few hours for an
advertising campaign, while a surgeon who must perform a life affecting procedure for a few
hours is paid a small fraction of what an athlete earns. When considering team sports, it can be
linked that higher payroll teams win more games and win more championship. But, there should
be a limit or salary cap in all professional team sports. This creates greater competition between
teams and more excitement for the fans. If a league did not have a salary cap, only teams that
have a history of winning games and championships are able to pay top dollars for the best players.
This makes it very difficult for younger teams to succeed, or for new teams to enter the league. A
prime example of a professional sport without a salary cap is Major League Baseball. The New York
Yankeeshad the highest payroll in 2007 of $218.3 million, while the World Series champion
Boston Red Sox was a distant second at $155.4 million. Not only having the highest payroll, the
Yankees had the highest revenue in the majors of $415 million last year. By looking at the other

Juxtaposition Song We Re Going To Be Friends
I choose the song We re Going to Be Friends , By The White Stripes for my juxtaposition song.
The topic I have chosen is bullying. We re Going to be Friends , is about a child that is getting
ready to go back to school. The song tells about how he is getting all of his school supplies ready
and thinking of someone named Suzy Lee that may or may not be there. Walk with me, Suzy
Lee Through the park and by the tree. We will rest upon the ground and look at all the bugs we
found Safely walk to school without a sound Safely walk to school without a sound (lines 7 12).
This figure makes him feel confident walking to school. He tells about the journey that they go on
to go to school, and how they are alone together going to school. The next part of the song is what
he is learning in school numbers, letters, learn to spell... He has somebody that is there with him to
go to school so that he isn t afraid to.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason that I picked this song for my juxtaposition song, is because, when people listen to the
song they imagine it being happy and a little boy and girl become friends going to school together,
but it could also be that this little boy is being bullied and he has an imaginary friend that is there
with him. Many bullies tease those who talk to imaginary people. Walk with me, Suzy Lee.

Personal Learning Management
The question at hand; is it possible to design an application to record high economic value
learning tasks or insights that will allow for periodic review? Yes it is possible, yet there is a level
of complexity to design such an application.
To solve the problem the application needs to determine economic value or insight that will allow
for review the important lessons learned. Each task would need an attribute, assigned a value or a
score to identify which may be of more significance than another. To achieve the outputvalue the
application would be dependent on key user input.
For the application to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the application is implemented it would then be tested, debugged and tested again. Once all
this is complete, documentation would be completed and any additional documentation for the
application from the user perspective would be done for deployment and maintenance of the
application.
The program will be developed using object oriented programming. This decision is based on the
need for the program to have several components on the project, ease of use and time constraints.
This approach is being taken in order to minimize coupling and make maintaining the application
easier. The key components of the object oriented approach which are useful to our application
are encapsulation, class and inheritance, methods and messages, and instances and instantiation.
Using this approach a structure can be created representing classes and objects and values
assigned or inherited. It is the goal of the program to use the values from a specific lesson and
rate its economic viability. Sense our application is largely based on values derived from
calculations from user input object oriented appears the best choice. In summary the application is
possible with the object oriented approach and best practices implemented. To develop the full
application it would need a small back end database with fields that a user or rule could query
based upon an economic value.

Christianity And Church History During The 20th Century
It is common and preferable to study history from above through the lens of the predominant
culture or through the actions of a famous figure. Yet, learning history from below allows us to
gain insight from the feelings and emotions of those affected, in addition to learning a story or
history that is hidden when studied from above. The story is told from the perspective of the
common people or individual. In this paper, the history of Christianitywill told from below. It will
be told from the prospective of an individual who was born and lived in South Africain the middle
20th century, during apartheid. First, this paper will briefly discuss the beginning of Christianity in
South Africa. Second, it will discuss Christianity and church history during the 20th century, which
is the main time period referenced in the paper. Third, it will discuss church history from the oral
account of and viewed through the life of Joy Hepkin, a black South African who currently resides
in the United States. The fourth sections will provide a reflection on the personal value gained
from this oral history and the value of oral history for ministry today.
PRELUDE
In order to gain a personal perspective on the history of Christianity in South Africa, Joy Hepkin,
a coworker, was interviewed. Joy is a registered oncology nurse. Joy was born in South Africa and
spent most of her time there living in Johannesburg. She is married and her husband is a pastor.

Two Types Of Motivation Essay
Issue 1: Motivation
Motivation is a psychological force that helps to determine the path or direction of a person s
behavior. It compels an action toward a desired goal. It can be considered as a behavior where
people engage their effort towards their desired goal. There are two types of motivation, internal and
external motivation.
Internal motivation is said to be intrinsic motivation. According to (Carol, 2013), intrinsic
motivation refers to the pleasure one gets from the task itself or from the sense of satisfaction in
completing or even working on a task. However, extrinsic motivation is related to rewards such as
salary and bonuses where it is given to employees by managers. Both of these motivations convince
a person to put their effort towards his or her goals.

Charles Eisenstein Disruption
During the tenth week of my HUMI 1 class, I was deeply intrigued with the topic of disruption
because it was something that I always viewed as a negative but soon found out that it can also
be seen and used as a benefit. Charles Eisenstein discusses how disruption can be seen as a form
of raising awareness towards something. You get the idea that we as people, are sometimes too far
in the moment to realize what is happening around us as we are indulged in our own activities.
When that occurs, disruption comes into play allowing for us to be conscious of our surroundings
and the importance of something. Because disruption is something that I have experience with, I

How We Got Over Chapter Summary
How We Got Over is book full of selected speeches vocalized by Dr. John A. Peoples, Jr., a
former President of Jackson State University. The selected speeches cover topics centered around
African Americans, specifically African American education. Most of the speeches, compiled in
the book by Dr. John A. Peoples, Jr. himself, are from his Jackson State University Founders Day
speeches. The speeches are arranged chronologically, and some of the speeches are given discrete
introductions to elucidate the concern, purpose, or problem being addressed (Peoples ix). The
book s title is a little misleading because one underlying theme of the entire book is that the
struggles for African Americans are not over. Even though some of the speeches were voiced as far
back as 1950, many of the author s subject matter and presented perspectives are applicable to the
today s society, most unambiguously the African American community.

Dr. Peoples begins his compilation of speeches with a speech he gave as valedictorian of
Jackson State College on May 24, 1950. The speech addresses the inverse relationship between
man s progress in solving physical problems and his progress solving social problems (2). Dr.
Peoples ends the speech by asserting to his fellow graduates that as graduates, they must attack
society s issues head on, and be leaders to the African American community to solve society s
social problems (4). That speech, given by a young John A. Peoples, Jr., presents the fundamental
purpose by which he has lived. This purpose of being a courageous leader and problem solver sets
forth the foundation for all of the following speeches compiled in the

clear that the workload is much more strenuous and tedious than what they have previously dealt

Effects Of Abnormal Profits On The Long Run Essay
2. Abnormal Profits in the Long Run
Normal Profit occurs when the average revenue is equal to the average total cost. Abnormal profit
is therefore defined as extra profit above normal profit. In the long run, oligopolies make abnormal
profits, due to the assumption of high barriers to entry. When firms in an industry seem to be
making abnormal profit, it may attract new entrants into the market; causing an increase in supply
and therefore a decrease in price leading to normal profits. However since there are high barriers to
entry in an oligopolistic market, an influx of new firms into the market is highly unlikely, therefore
abnormal profits are sustained in the long run.
Diagram 2.0
3. Non Price Competition
As previously discussed, price stickiness is one of the implications under the assumptions of the
oligopoly model. Since changing price will generally result in the loss of profits and market share;
firms compete using non price related strategies. One of these methods includes product
improvement. If firms improve the quality of the product or implement characteristics that their
targeted demographic enjoy, they can charge more for the product or attract a greater consumer
base. Firms operating in an oligopolistic firm also invest largely in marketing of their product.
Raising awareness regarding the product will encourage more sales if advertisements appeal to
audience. Branding and consumer loyalty is an artificial barrier to entry and a

Polar Bears And Polar Bear
Polar Bear
Introduction
Polar bears live in the Arctic Circle with temperatures that can be minus fifty degrees Celsius.
Polar bears are considered marine mammals because they spend the majority of the life at sea,
swimming for miles, but they are the only marine mammal that has limbs and also roams on ice
and land. Male polar bears generally are twice the size of females, or sow s. An ancestor of the
grizzly bear, polar bears live in the ArcticCircle and spend majority of their time in the ocean
hunting for seals. Seals being the meal of choice for polar bears they have adapted to the harsh
climate and learned how to hunt seals (Willmer, 2004). The population size of polar bears is

Along with being translucent the bears fur is also hollow, this helps the bear swim, also
preventing the freezing water from touching the bears skin. The bears fur is also long, fine and
densely packed insulating the bear further (Willmer, 2004). The polar bearhave large feet and the
soles are covered in fur, insulating the feet and also used as grip for walking on the ice and snow.
The large feet surface area on their feet also serves as grip for walking long distances searching for
food. They also have small ears which decrease risk of water getting in them. The small ears also
reduce heat loss.
Diet
Polar bears are the most carnivorous of the bear family. Polar bears have large narrow heads
allowing them to fit there heard in small spaces searching for food. They have a great sense of
smell allowing them to sniff out predators form far away. They have the most sensitive nose of
any mammal this allows them to smell a seal that is three feet under the snow, or thirty
kilometers away. When they do find a seal den they jump and push all their body weight into the
snow breakings free the seal from underneath the ice. This hunting tactic mastered by polar bears
acts as a surprise attack, and the seal never knew what was coming. These bears incredible sense
of smell allows them to pin point the exact spot where the seal s den is under the ice, otherwise if
the polar bear is wrong the hunt will not be successful. This method is so important because the

The Common Core State Standards Essay
In 2009 the Common Core State Standards, or CCSS, was initiated, and since then has become a
large part of education today. News shows in multiple states have shown students protesting these
new standards by skipping classes and school all together. These actions obviously show their
refusal to work with the new standards. While there are many teachers who are happy with these
standards, students still need to be convinced, and teachers can help this by supporting Common
Core State Standards. This in turn may help students understand their subjects better, and give
teachers a more attentive and active class. With CCSS being present in 2016 in most states it is of
relevance to take it in to consideration that it will be around for a while. In years to come, CCSS
may become the standards in all states. In order to ensure that there are no refusals to work with
these standards, administration and faculty in high schools across the United Statesshould find a
way to accommodate these new common core state standards. This can be done through reassuring
individual teachers that they are able to teach the new standards in ways that are easy for them,
showing different ways to help students achieve a higher order of thinking, and offer a better way
to connect students previous knowledge to knowledge they are currently receiving.

how Apollorecruits his Cretan followers or priests. The hymn opens with a description of worship

Homer goes on to describe how as Apollo was considering how to acquire these followers, he
took notice of a passing ship on the sea full of Cretan sailors. Intercepting them on their journey,
Apollo transformed into a dolphin and lept upon their boat, and caused the ship to shake with his
mighty power. The sailors, unrecognizing of the god, became fearful and followed the powerful
wind that lead them to Crisa. Once upon the shore, Apollo revealed his true and mighty form to
the sailors installing an awesome fear in each of them (278) and they rejoiced in serving him.
With the aid of Apollo, the sailors all became initiated so they may devote themselves to the
practices and worship of Apollo. This story highlights how Apollo came to be known as Apollo
Delphinios, the root of the word meaning dolphin, and likewise, how the location received the name
Delphi. Along with the tales asserting Apollo s birth and origin, the hymn also discusses Hera and
the monster Typhaon that she creates. Enraged with her husband Zeus, since he has on his own born
the wise goddess Athena from his forehead, Hera hopes to give birth a monster that will become
famous among mortals, but will not go against the sacred marriage vow that she and Zeus share.

Great Recession And The Great Depression
GREAT ECONOMIC TIMES IN AMERICA
The Great Recession and the Great Depression are the fallout of the exact same economic
problems and are only different in a few respects. Each period is marked by a massive run ups in
asset prices followed by a crash in the stock market and sent both debt and equity markets down.
These periods are said to be the worse economic downturn in the country s history. During the great
depression, as banks failed and threatened to shut down the financial system altogether, President
Franklin Roosevelt moved quickly and effectively to address the most dangerous financial crisis of
the Great depression. The massive stock market collapse that began in October 1929 erased
massive amounts of wealth and because many banks had invested heavily in the markets, and had
lent recklessly to speculative investors, the banks found themselves without sufficient capital and in
many cases without reserves. He created the New Deal which responded to an unemployment rate
that had reached 25 percent, and in some cities as much as 75 percent. He signed the Emergency
Banking Act, which allowed inspectors to evaluate troubled banks and decide whether or not they
could reopen. The Glass Steagall Act created a barrier between commercial and investment banking
and established the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, which guaranteed that citizens would

they should be shown the respect they deserve.
My final point I d like to make is all of the situations the officer goes through on the job causes a
lot of stress. The officer may bring these horrible moods home and argue with his or her spouse
or he or she may take it out on the kid. With the parent never home this neglects the kid from his

their utility belt and badge. Being a police officers has its ups and downs, many people s lives can

In conclusion, I believe all of these traits consequently, make a police officer a hero. They fight

CALCULATING DESTINY is an ambitious script that combines various story genres including a
psychological supernatural story, as well as a sci fi tale combined with an action thriller. At the
heart of the story is a man caught in the middle of a major conspiracy.
There are themes about destiny, free will, and the universal theme of good versus evil.
While the plot tries to tell a compelling tale with many intriguing ideas, unfortunately, the
combination of the various genres, several plotlines, and the series of events make for a convoluted,
and often, challenging plotline to follow.
Essentially, the story tries to tell too many storylines, including a supernatural Biblical war, a sci fi
tale about mind control and brainwashing, then a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a few minor typos.
Overall, a strong start, but as the story progresses, the story becomes less articulate. The script is
set up to be a possible franchise, but the script needs to be clearer and restructured first.
Remember, one clear and consistent goal for the hero to achieve. Streamline the story types and
the subplots. Clarify one goal by the end of act one. Let act two center on the hero trying to
achieve that goal. He should be proactive. As mentioned, if the goal is to find his way out of the
game, then show this. Show the decisions he has to make to find his way out which level of the
building, which door etc. Maybe he has to make it to the roof to get out. Maybe there are secret
passageways. Create strong obstacles as he tries to find his way out of the game.
If his goal is to rescue the kids, then stay focused on this, clarify why they were abducted in the
first place.
If the story is about mind control and he has to stop Flannery, make sure there s a good reason or
motivation for the mind control. In act three there should be resolution and character

Dichotomy Between Eastern And Western Religions
Myths are culturally accepted stories that humans have orally constructed and passed on from
generation to generation to serve our larger perception of life and humanity. Further, myths help
guide us in their teachings about creation, good and evil, mortality, and suffering. However, these
myths contrast between Eastern and Western regions. Eastern regions depart from Western regions
in terms of their religious influence. Religionin Eastern regions helps shape the importance of
humans relationship with a higher power through the embodiment of rituals and sacrifices much
like in Native American and Shinto religious beliefs. Although Eastern regions branch from these
diverse cultures, they centralize on the belief that the relationship between Godand humans is
universal and essential for humanlife.

The Real World Business Manager
Introduction
There are plenty of factors that could decide the managerial performance and could help an
individual manager to refine his approaches and strategies for the benefit of the company as well
as there are plenty of basic themes on which the qualities of a manager are based upon and the
consequences of his actions could monitor the success of the company. The objective of this essay
is to explain the themes that are selected from the talk of the real world business managers and to
link it to the manager. Based on every particular theme as selected for analysis, there are both
positives and negatives attached to it. There are various plus points that attach the themes to the
benefit of a manager and some of the negative areas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The various roles of a manager in a company will be decided by their style of management and the
way they handle various situations in an organization. The two of the main styles are autocratic and
Democratic (Jordan, 1977). With a contrast in both the style, every management style comes in a
way between these two opposing management styles. Autocratic style is oriented towards the
results and the strict rules and procedures that should be followed by the employees whereas in a
Democratic style the manager is completely oriented towards people and their needs and hence
employees and customers are the main themes for his management. The choice of management
style will suit according to the required situations as every style is not fit for every scenario and
hence an efficient mapping must be done. It is an art of getting the employees and the projects on
a platform and to have a vision to extract the best out of all to come over an excellent result. There
cannot be a single management style that will incorporate every required feature for an efficient
and effective management style. Management style is the soul of a bonding amongst the
employees (Morris, 1992) so as to motivate them to work together towards a strengthened goal. It is
expected that a manager must be a glue to integrate all the employees and must have attribute of a

Memory Distortion
Memory vs. Experience Do we really know what is true to remember? Do we really remember the
actual memory? Although some people do not believe that people can mentally delete parts of a
memory, many cases prove this method of memory distortion. The perception people remember that
they had within a memory is what forms the factual pieces of a memory. During the recall and
retrieval process, a memory is replayed consistently, but the more times it is replayed, the more
times new and inaccurate information is added to the memory. We do not choose between
experiences; we choose between memories of experiences. Our memory is tampered with by the
many factors that interfere with the encoding process of memory, therefore, changing the memory
altogether. Experimental work on memory distortion has caught the consideration of the more
extensive emotional wellness field, of the legitimate calling, and of the overall population. One
reason is this: In the most recent decade, hundreds if not a great many of patients have risen up out
of psychotherapy charging their fathers and moms, their uncles and granddads, their previous
neighbors, their previous instructors and specialists, and endless others, of sexually manhandling
them years prior. The patients frequently guarantee that they have stifled or separated the... Show

In some sense the trials in the deception worldview, in which individuals are given transcripts said
to have been given by different witnesses of a severe event, can be considered as exhibitions of
social impacts on memory. This is particularly valid for such studies that have analyzed the
credibility of the source giving the deceptive data [Underwood 8: Pezdek, 1998]. Then again,
efficient studies manipulating social weight and gathering agreement on false recollections are only

Lady Macbeth Persuasive Speech
Today I was told by the Weird Sisters that i would become Thane of Cawdor and soon King of
Scotland. I would love to become king but the things that i would have to do to achieve this are
out of the question. I hope Lady Macbeth does not find out about this because she would do
terrible things to get me to be king. I hope to one day be king of Scotland but without hurting
anyone. King Duncan already has abundant trust for me and I don t plan on breaking that like the
previous Thane of Cawdor did. It is my goal to become king one day, slowly but surely.
The witches were right, I have become Thane of Cawdor. I just hope they don t curse Duncan so i
become king. Lady Macbeth has heard about the potential of me becoming King and she is anxious

The Impact Of The U. S. Steel Corporation
The global economy has not always been driven by large corporations. In fact, the idea and
product of these globalized giants were not truly prevalent until just over a hundred years ago.
In the first year of the 20th century works were under way to create a business firm that was so
large it would become the world s first large corporation. J.P. Morgan and a group of companies
in the steel industry developed and created the U.S. Steel Corporation. The company would go on
to become America s first billion dollar organization due to being built around nearly all major
producers of steel, iron, and coke at the time. A near monopoly on the industry had effectively been
developed and created. While this institution was private not all... Show more content on

The result is almost 24 trillion dollars of equity shares in just the top 500 firms alone. These
same firms are responsible for actively employing over 43 million people everyday. That doesn t
even include the hundreds of millions of people indirectly controlled in their supply chain. This
of course only includes the top publicly traded firms. As of 2012 there are more than 3.6 million
registered corporations globally. Based on the numbers above it is easy to see the great amount
of power that is held in the hand of the few. Two great examples come from Google and Walmart
two of the world s largest corporations. Google s Gmail service currently serves approximately
900 million people today. That s greater than the population of Europe as a whole. With that
many people actively engaged in one company s product the influence the company can have is
vast. Not to mention that this is only Google s email service, I won t even go into discussion on
the ad placement aspect of the company. Walmart on the other hand illustrates another great
example. Every week the company host more than 250 million people in its stores in America
alone. Almost 80% of the United States will shop at the store at some point during the year. The
amount of electricity that is used by its stores alone ranks above 12 states in power consumption
at .05% of produced electricity per year. Now while it can be measured conceptually how big these
firms are it is hard to measure

Power and Authority shows, how those in charge act when having access to power. Golding s

Many acts of violent crimes have connected to young players and violent videos games. These
young players aren t supposed to be playing this game anyways. There is a reason these games are
labeled with the game rating. An 8 year old boy intentionally killed a 90 year old woman when he
shot her in the head inside a Louisiana mobile home after playing a violent video game, police said.
But the child won t be charged with a crime.
The boy fatally shot his elderly caregiver, Marie Smothers, after playing Grand Theft Auto IV a
video game critics often blame for promoting violence inside the mobile home at a Slaughter, La.,
trailer park Thursday evening, police said. (Kemp)
I wonder why an 8 year kid is playing a game that has a label on it that clearly has a label print on to
the cover saying it is for people 18 years old and up. Here s a 8 year old boy who is barely capable
of thinking on his own and he s playing a game that he s 10 years to young to be playing. My
really question is how do you put that on the creators of the game? The game creators clearly put
an age restrictions on the game for a reason because the content is very influential for someone
who isn t 18 or older. People over 18 year old person are able to think for them selves as where an 8

Describe The Importance Of Volunteering
UNDERSTANDING VOLUNTEER WORK
Volunteering is when a person out of his own will spends his time and makes an effort to help
people in his community and has no expectation of a reward in return. It also involves several
individuals pulling their resources together for a cause. Volunteering can be done individually, or by
groups of people who come together to form what is known as Non Profit Organizations.
Volunteeringhas recognition all over the world for the positive impact it has on both the volunteer
and the volunteered. They are several ways of volunteering ones service and the rewards that comes
with it are also many. Let s start by examining the different forms of volunteering.

One of the importance of volunteering is how healthy it makes one feel. You might wonder how
this works. It is believed that, those who volunteer feel more happy ,proud and confident of
themselves knowing that they are doing something good to help others aside themselves. This sense
of happiness makes them more relaxed and refreshed and this helps the human system to work more
efficiently.
Volunteering offers an opportunity for people to meet and make new friends. As you go along
with people to communities to offer your services, you interact with them and get closer to them
and through that make friends. And as we all know, having friends to count on in times of
difficulties can be one of the comforting things in life. Also, we can even make friends from the
people we go out to help and this indeed expands our social networks.
Through volunteering, one may learn something new. This can be new skills such as problem
solving skills, project planning, assignment management etc. Again, one can also discover new
things about one s oneself such as, an ability to cope with difficult situations and also discover
things about the world, new cultures and appreciate people

Essay on Struggle of American Women for Equality
To an onlooker, it may seem that the struggle of American women is essentially over. It is a fact
of American Society, and also all functioning societies, that it will behave in such a way as to
ensure its own continued existence. In accordance with post modern Sociology, the system will
move with us, against us, or in spite of us; instead of benevolence or malevolence towards
individuals or groups, it is more interested with self preservation. Therefore, when women as a
group make an advance in society, they have done so in a way that benefits society as a whole,
but not necessarily women as a group. As such, it can be noted that the struggle of women for
equality in American Society is not over. Not as long as women are still... Show more content on

Wade case. With that, the Supreme Court decided that the right for women to seek an abortion
was protected by her right to privacy. This landmark decision, along with the legalization of the
birth control pill in 1970, was considered a victory for the Women s Movement. However, the
triumph must be seen in context. As aforementioned, the system moves to preserve itself. In the
late 1960s and early 1970s, many people in a position of power, including President Richard
Nixon, were concerned at the time about a rapidly growing population, especially the growing
urban populace which was by and large composed of Blacks and members of the lower class.
Legalized abortion and the contraceptive pill were seen as adequate methods to stem the growth
in population among the unfavorable people (Solinger, 2005). In fact, little changed for white and
middle class women who had for many years been able to receive abortions by skilled doctors
willing to perform the procedure in private. Audre Lorde, author of Age, Race, Class, and Sex,
points out that Black women are the primary targets of abortion and sterilization abuse. (p. 69) The
result has been another method of control of the lower strata by the top and the social victory for
women in this case has been marginal at best.
The political victory of women has been less perceptible than the great social victories. Women
today can be seen holding positions of great

Attitudes not only effects job satisfaction and performance but also the relationship with
customers. Managers and employees should never express negativity around customers at any
given time this type of attitude can cause loss of sales. We tend to perform better when we can
recognize and deal with emotions in ourselves and others. When our emotional intelligence level
is high we are able to cope with all attitudes and behaviors at any given time. Success comes
easier if I shall say when we possess and can identify the four key competencies in being a leader.
The four competencies are self awareness, social awareness, self management, and relationship
management. Managers must be in a good mood even when they are not wanting to. The intense
emotions positive or negative reaction from the manager or employee can cause a certain behavior
or mood.
Three leadership practices that Trader Joe s can implement to increase a competitive edge of the
organization are model the way, inspire a shared vision, and enable others to act. The leader
should set an example of the way the organization should be. The leader should set principles on
how the customers, employees, and leaders should be treated and how goals shall be reached
within the organization. Next the leader should inspire a shared vision. Leaders believe

Tone In Siren Song, The Sirens
In all three works of art, the epic poem (The Odyssey), Atwood s poem ( Siren Song ), and
Waterhouse s Ulysses The Sirens, all portray the Sirens differently by the author s tone. Waterhouse
uses art to set the dramatic and threatening tone while The Odyssey uses poetry to set the dramatic
tone. The tone of Atwood s poem depicts the Sirens as being mischievous yet bored.
First, Waterhouse uses art to portray the Sirens as dramatic and threatening by the choice of the
colors used. Odysseus is dressed in white which draws the eye to him as the main focal point,
while the Sirens are in all black, surrounding Odysseus and his men. The contrast in color depicts
Odysseus as to be heroic while draped in white, while the Sirens appear to be dark and
threatening. The Sirens hovering around the boat and trying to grasp the sailors attention, also
makes this piece of art look more menacing. From what we know from reading Homer s Odyssey, it
would appear that this is the artist s interpretation of how he saw the sirens and the sailors. ... Show

Odysseus and his men. The author used words like flunged and harder , making the sentence more

words like ravishing and thrilling . When mentioning the song, the tone changed from dramatic to

A Comparison of Biographic Features in The Sun Also Rises and The Great Gatsby The writers F.
Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway included biographical information in their novels The
Great Gatsby and The Sun Also Rises that illuminated the meaning of the work. Although The Sun
Also Rises is more closely related to actual events in Hemingway s life than The Great Gatsbywas
to events in Fitzgerald s life, they both take the same approach. They both make use of non

However, based on the details, the narrators conclusions are relatively evident. In this novel,
Fitzgerald is able to write about his experiences from a different perspective and include his self in
both the characters of Jay Gatsby and Nick Carraway.
As in many of Fitzgerald s works, he writes about a golden girl 1), the desire of every man that he
couldn t have. In the case of The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald creates the character of Daisy to fit
this discription. In actuality the motivation for Fitzgerald s writing about the golden girl came
from real events. Ginevra King was the love of [Fitzgerald s] young life. 2) In Ginevra s eyes,
however, Fitzgerald was simply one of the many men in her young life and when it came time
she dropped him. 3)Most importantly, however, his rejection by Ginevra motivated much of his
fiction. 4) In The Great Gatsby, Daisy is shown by the end to be a very careless and confused
who smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast
carelessness... and let other people clean up the mess they had made. 5) This statement from the
novel relates to Fitzgeralds own fealings for Ginevra who used him, then dropped him when it
came time leaving Francis devastated.6) This rejection shaped Fitzgeralds view of women in
general and thus affected his characterization of women. The romance between Fitzgerald and
Ginevra King is also given

  • 2. The Great Influenza By John M. Barry The book The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History, written by John M. Barry, covers the progression of the Spanish influenza, especially in the United States. Barry focuses not only on the influenza itself, though, but also on the social influences that allowed the virus to flourish. The book covers how medical practices in the United States had risen up just in time to combat the virus, but, due to societal issues and the war, the doctors struggled in areas where they should have been successful. Although medicinetoday is comparatively more advanced, that is a more recent change than one would like to think. For instance, not even 150 years ago, Hippocrates and Galen would have recognized and largely agreed with most medical practices. Barry addresses this topic of medical advancement at the beginning of his book by producing a well researched, albeit a little too long, history of western medicine. He provides examples of how medicine evolved from the teachings of Hippocrates, Galen, and Vesalius to a more modern form of medicine. This was done in order to explain how prepared the medical community was in the face of this impending virus. Unlike the other epidemics, the people of the early 19 century should have been prepared to face the influenza with all of their exciting and new medical equipment and practices, but there was something in their way of advancement universities. While this new group of medical warriors, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. U.s. Attorney General And President John F. Kennedy U.S. Attorney General and President John F. Kennedy confidant Robert F. Kennedy wrote Thirteen Days as an account of the Cuban Missile Crisis, a 13 day power struggle from October 15 to October 28 1962 between the US and the Soviet Union over ballistic missile deployment in Cuba by the Soviets. The peaceful removal of those missiles was both a challenge and a goal for the Kennedy administration. The Cuban Missile Crisiswas arguably one of the most dangerous Cold Waraffairs whose escalation would have led to a global nuclear war demise. Both Harvard educated men and born into a wealthy, ambitious family, Robert and John Kennedy were influenced by their father to become involved in politics and managed to do that very successfully ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Three events are associated with the Cuban Missile Crisis: superpower tension, the domestic situation in Cuba, and the Bay of Pigs incident. The ideological competition between Russia and the U.S. was exemplified in the arms, nuclear and space race, the funding of anti Communists by the U.S., the unsuccessful Vienna Summit of 1961 and the construction of the Berlin Wall. In 1958, Kruschev had asked NATO to give up West Berlin to East Germany and by the summer of 1961, Kruschev and Kennedy met during the Vienna Summit, where Kruschev insisted upon East German control over West Berlin. On August 13, the Soviets and East Germans built a wall that limited free means of access between the Western and Eastern zones. American and Soviet forces confronted each other at Checkpoint Charlie, which controlled the passage across. The U.S. eventually agreed with the wall s construction in November 1961, resolving the Berlin Crisis. However, Kruschev had not yet gotten what he wanted. According to him, the installation of Soviet missiles in Cuba could be to negotiate over Berlin. Kennedy might replace the removal of Soviet Cuban missiles with retreat from West Berlin. The coup ... • 4. Fathers In Anney s Bastard Out Of Carolina The role of a parent is a strange, yet all too familiar tradition that is the same within every culture. A child is born from procreation, and then raised within a family system usually made up of the biological parents. The goal as a parent is to raise this infant into adulthood by providing them encouragement, support, and teaching them the necessary skills for life. Seems very black and white, correct? What happens when a parentknows they cannot provide these necessities for the child? In the novel, Bastard Out of Carolina, Anney knew she could not provide a secure life for Bone, and therefore abandoned her child to live her own life. From Bone s point of view, readers can gather that Anney is a hard working, strong, and caring mother. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anney becomes a single mother very young, having Bone at age fifteen, and then remarries to Lyle Parsons with a new baby by nineteen. The new couple give each other pet names, respect each other, and Lyle, though childish, promises to adopt Bone when they have the money (6). Unfortunately, Lyle dies in an accident and Anney is forced yet again to be a single mother with two girls. It is really no surprise that Anney looks at men with the thought of how fit they would be as a husband to her. He d make a good daddy, she imagined, a steady man... I need a husband, she thought, turned her back, and wiped her face. Yeah, and a car and a home and a hundred thousand dollars (13). Notice how Anney associates a husband or a father for her children to the other needs of her life. She does not want a husband per se, but she needs one to help provide a stable life for her children. Anney s third husband, Glen, appears to be all of these things at first, while satisfying her sexual needs as well. Because Glen has ...got a horse dick, the men joke that no woman would ever leave Daddy Glen (62). And Anney never does leave Glen even though he throws tantrums, cannot keep a job, beats and eventually brutally rapes Bone as well. Anney possibly stays with Glen because of how she was brought up in the Boatwright ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. 2015 Hill Lancet Summary The 2015 Hill Lancet study was based on concerns about the increased costs and length of stay associated with falls during hospital stays. Specifically, the study investigated the effectiveness of individualized falls prevention education for patients at the ward level of a hospital, backed up by training and feedback for staff. The following is a critique of this study using the Riegelman MAARIE framework. Method: The study question investigated was; what impact will individualized fall prevention education, supported by training and feedback for staff reduce have on the number of falls during hospital stays? The study was a pragmatic study of patients admitted to one of 8 rehabilitation units in general hospitals that were over sixty years old, with a projected hospital stay of at least three days, and had basic cognitive functioning. 3,606 patients admitted were admitted to the eight units during the study period, with 1,983 in the control group and 1623 in the intervention group. The pragmatic nature of the study is a strength given the nature of the intervention. However, the investigators do not explain the logic of limiting the study to patients over age 60, with a length of stay of at least three days, and this restricts the extrapolation of the results to these groups. Assignment: The study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The null hypothesis of no change or an increase in the number of falls is not in the CI indicating statistical significance. Also, lending to the statistical significance was the fact that additional statistical testing was performed to account for the nature of the cluster randomization. These tests determined that the trial would have more than 80% to detect a 30% reduction in falls. Statistical testing was also completed to account for seasonal fluctuations in patient volume. • 11. Teams For A Team Based Organization INTRODUCTION In many organizations, employees work together in structures commonly known as teams. Organizations utilize teams for a number of reasons (e.g., greater output, quality enhancements, or better decisions) and give them a range of labels depending on factors such as the members comprising the team {ex. managers, front line workers} or what the team is supposed to achieve {ex. to make decisions, develop a new product, deliver a service}. Some of the many types of teams found in organizations include top management teams, cross functional teams { Bikson, 1996}, self managing work teams {Cohen, Ledford, Spreitzer, 1996, Orsburn, Moran, Musselwhite, Zenger, 1990}, international task forces { Waite, 1998} and virtual teams {Hiltz, Johnson, Turoff, 1986, Lumsden }. Despite investing heavily in teams, many organizations appear far from satisfied with their decision to become team based (Dumaine, 1994). This is mainly due to the overall effectiveness of their teams and how their effectiveness tends to vary. At one end of the continuum, teams can be highly performing and produce outputs beyond the capabilities of its individual members. At the other end, however, they can fail dismally. Outputs for example are not produced on time or in some instances, not at all. Further, when outputs are delivered, they can be of such a poor quality, the reputation of the organization and the team members are effected. In the worst case scenario, these poor quality outputs can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To have it be someone near to you being affected by this is heartbreaking, all of the pain they have to embrace. I argue that people should be educated on the negative effects that a child can be at stake when he or she is faced with abuse. Let s talk about sea kayaking before boats and different types of equipment shall we? Sea kayaking to most kayakers is an unknown place. People who kayak don t generally think of going out on the sea. Either because they think that the tides will drag them out or that it is to much work to move your boat, to these people I say that this is absolutely not true and it is no harder to move on the sea than to move on a flowing river. admittedly on a river you don t have big waves but still there is next to no difference in how hard it is to move, and as for the tides unless you irresponsible and decide to go out in gala force wind, then the only thing you have to think about is the current not the tide. Once you understand all of these variables you can have tons of fun out there after all the sea is the biggest white water centre there is. Away from sea kayaking let s look at some of the other aspects of kayaking. There are many different types of kayaking there is white water kayaking that is all to do with what is basically throwing yourself down the most wildest rivers you can and praying you come out the other end with yourself and all your stuff intact. He says that people tends to think that things are becoming worst or didn t change which is not true. He said that there is a need to communicate because the data of what happening in the world is well aware. He compares the life expectancy and fertility rate of many countries since 1960. He found out that they is a lot of countries that have improved in term of life expectancy. As example China and India has improved and are moving toward better health care and small families like develop countries. He also compared the income distribution in the world and found out that there wasn t a gap between rich and poor anymore and that there were a lot of countries that were in the middle and had 24% of the income. Looking at the graph, the actual distribution was mounded shaped while it used to be a bump. He shows that it is dangerous to use average data because there is a lot of differences between countries and that policy makers have to take that into consideration while designing the laws for one region. • 17. The Benefits Of Metropolitan Growth A metropolitan refers to an area that comprises of a densely populated urban area and sparsely populated surrounding regions that share infrastructures, housing, and industries. The growth of metropolitan areas is essential for the nation and its citizens because they are the key political and economic regions. Metropolitan covers one or more urban areas, towns, satellite cities, and rural regions that are socially and economically joined to the urban areas. Various studies that had been conducted regarding the development of metropolitan areas, particularly in the United States, have found out that various factors have played a crucial role in fostering these developments. Some of these factors include; crime, race, immigration, and design assimilation. It is, therefore, significant to understand the benefits of metropolitan growth, who reaps them, the cost of metropolitan growth, and who is responsible for paying these costs. Benefits of Metropolitan Growth One of the benefits of metropolitan growth is that it brings unity in the society. For instance, in the United States, it created unity between the American citizens and the immigrants. Nicolaides and James assert that design assimilation, thus, was a facet of the production of affluent suburban space, in which white and ethnic Asian suburbanites played complicit roles (335). Asians accepting the prevailing designs shows that they were embracing the American style. Connolly also postulates that the development of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The extent of my knowledge regarding human rights, while limited, derives from my concessions nature, that I acquired from typical Southern Hills schooling. This creates greater competition between teams and more excitement for the fans. If a league did not have a salary cap, only teams that have a history of winning games and championships are able to pay top dollars for the best players. • 29. Effects Of Abnormal Profits On The Long Run Essay 2. Abnormal Profits in the Long Run Normal Profit occurs when the average revenue is equal to the average total cost. Abnormal profit is therefore defined as extra profit above normal profit. In the long run, oligopolies make abnormal profits, due to the assumption of high barriers to entry. When firms in an industry seem to be making abnormal profit, it may attract new entrants into the market; causing an increase in supply and therefore a decrease in price leading to normal profits. However since there are high barriers to entry in an oligopolistic market, an influx of new firms into the market is highly unlikely, therefore abnormal profits are sustained in the long run. Diagram 2.0 3. Non Price Competition As previously discussed, price stickiness is one of the implications under the assumptions of the oligopoly model. Since changing price will generally result in the loss of profits and market share; firms compete using non price related strategies. One of these methods includes product improvement. If firms improve the quality of the product or implement characteristics that their targeted demographic enjoy, they can charge more for the product or attract a greater consumer base. Firms operating in an oligopolistic firm also invest largely in marketing of their product. Raising awareness regarding the product will encourage more sales if advertisements appeal to audience. While there are many teachers who are happy with these standards, students still need to be convinced, and teachers can help this by supporting Common Core State Standards. Once upon the shore, Apollo revealed his true and mighty form to the sailors installing an awesome fear in each of them (278) and they rejoiced in serving him. With the aid of Apollo, the sailors all became initiated so they may devote themselves to the practices and worship of Apollo. This story highlights how Apollo came to be known as Apollo Delphinios, the root of the word meaning dolphin, and likewise, how the location received the name Delphi. Along with the tales asserting Apollo s birth and origin, the hymn also discusses Hera and the monster Typhaon that she creates. Enraged with her husband Zeus, since he has on his own born the wise goddess Athena from his forehead, Hera hopes to give birth a monster that will become famous among mortals, but will not go against the sacred marriage vow that she and Zeus share. Hera prayed to the Earth and the Heavens, as well as Tartarus, asking them for a child who will have strong enough powers to rival even Zeus and his own father Cronus. The Earth ...
