Trumpet Coursework
Explore the way that Kay portrays family relationships in Trumpet. In what way does this theme relate
to the struggle for identity?
Joss Moody the protagonist of Jackie Kay s novel Trumpet lived in a world full of contrasts internally
Josephine but to all who knew him the famous trumpet player Joss. Having to deal with so much
contrast so close to home can make a person wonder who is right and what to believe leaving them
struggling to figure out who they are amongst it all. Being that the novel has a 70 year time span
starting in 1927; the reader has the chance to experience society at different points in Joss life and we
can infer what the norm and day to day life would have been for Josephine. For example, in the 1930 s

Whatever is a dismissive word often used by a mother who having grown tired of repeating the same
thing over and over, has given in and has ultimately stopped caring. Only once, they overcome this
barrier, are Colman and Millie able to grieve together.
Following this is the relationship between Edith and her husband. Though we never hear from her
husband, we learn about him through Edith. Edith is an elderly white lady who has been widowed for
a long time. Her husband was a black man who had come from Africa to Scotland on a boat. He came
over as a young man at the turn of the century. At this time, racism was still very prominent and so
interracial couples were virtually non existent. Edith says that people were shocked that she was going
out with, no, married to, a black man. A black man in a white country at the beginning of the 20th
century was almost certain to encounter racism and inequality. Like Joss, Edith s husband was lucky
enough to meet and marry someone who accepted him for who he was as a person. This total
acceptance and love for a man who society at the time said she should discard and look down on as
beneath her gives promise that had she of been told, she would have been accepting of Joss choice to
become a man in the best embodiment that he could achieve as Edith has been portrayed as a non
judgemental, un conforming and loving character.

Making Healthier Lifestyle Changes As A Fibromyalgia Patient
Chapter 17
Conclusion
Making Healthier Lifestyle Changes as a Fibromyalgia Patient
Exercise, a good sleep routine, and a healthy diet can improve the condition of a fibromyalgia (FM)
patient. If a person already has concerns with regards to healthy living even before being diagnosed
with FM, improving these three areas may be difficult. Sometimes a patient gives into the pain and
other FM symptoms rather than trying hard to see beyond the pain, fatigue, and all the other symptoms
associated with a FM diagnosis. It is much better to aim for a healthier lifestyle to improve overall
wellbeing.
Gentle and Mindful Exercise can Help
Although pain and fatigue may hamper the patient from doing some form of exercise, all efforts must
be made to start with at least short walks or other gentle exercise as this will have a long term effect
on the improvement FM symptoms. Yoga can be a good form of exercise for people with FM because
it isn t strenuous. There may be some difficulty with yoga because of the joint and muscle pains so the
patient must take care to select the poses and stretches that are comfortable.
In addition, exercise is good for the brain as it releases serotonin, a mood enhancing chemical.
Exercise therefore will be a big help if the patient feels the stress often associated with FM. Another
benefit of exercising is that it may fight depression, another symptom that most FM patients also
suffer from.

Men and Women Were Created Equ Essay
By: Robert
E mail: an@cancom.net
Men and Women were Created Equal Men are not superior to women, they are equal in every way.
Although it is true that society has stereotyped women into traditional roles, this preconceived notion,
is totally false. Action to promote the concept of equality in our society needs to be taken. Women
have been fighting for equality for many decades. As a result of this battle, some amazing
transformations have taken place amongst the female gender. Women have become educated and over
the last few decades have started to take active roles and their rightful place in society. They have
made major inroads in working opportunities, including government, science and even the military.
They are reshaping world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2 Another example of women sharing an equal role in today s society is demonstrated in the military.
Today s women joining the Canadian Armed Forces are equally eligible with men for combat roles.
Over 229,000 women serve on active duty in the military services of the Department of Defense. This
monumental step allows women to become takers, as well as producers of life. Women now have
equal rights and responsibilities in the defense of our country. These advances have been made, not
only on the ground but in the air as well. In 1988, Deanna Brasseur became Canada s first female
fighter pilot. That same year, the defense department appointed their first female general, Sheila
Hellstrom. The department also stated that women often do better at riflery than men due to the fact
that they listen to instruction while men tend to think they know it all. A male veteran sergeant, proud
of his work with female recruits, says that: Today s women won t find anything that hard to adjust to
in the military. The facts are telling a tale. Many doors are opening for women and they are barreling
through with boundless energy and determination. The 21st century is here and the traditional role of
the stay at home mother is all but disappeared. Marriage and children are still signs of the successful
women, however women are less willing to accept exclusive roles of housewife and mother. More and
more women are entering the labor market as education has

Infant-Directed Media Analysis
The main purpose of this article is to examine how infants use memory to learn from books,
television, and touchscreens. It also tries to study the age related constrains on memory flexibility that
causes the transfer deficit so as to increase the creation and effective use of infant directed media in
early education. The study of the deferred imitation of media shows that the infants can learn from
picture books, television and touchscreens, and the imitation from television starts from 6 months
(Barr, 2013). The results of live demonstrations for infant to imitate is much better than that of the
televised and the book demonstration. Infants after watching a televised and a book demonstration can
only imitate half as many actions as infants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author makes some suggestions for improving the usage of media for infant learning. First of all,
he suggested that the quality of infant directed media should be improved to facilitate the infant
learning. The commercial products could repeat content, have realistic photographic images and
familiar characters to enhance visual mapping between 2D presentations and the 3D objects, and
feature labels and well timed sound effects to enhance auditory (Barr, 2013). These features can help
reduce the transfer deficit between the 2D and 3D format. The author also stated that since the infant s
engagement in the child directed television programs are significantly influenced by parents
engagement and description of content, so parents and educators could improve infant learning
through all 2D materials, not just books. I agree with the suggestion that infants should learn through
various sources, including 2D materials, books, etc. Many parents prefer to let their children to mostly
acquire knowledge from books, while the visual materials can better help the infants to access to the
complex knowledge, thus improving their learning

Labors And Slavery During The Gilded Age
During the Gilded Age both labors and farmers had very strong reasons to have these complaints.
Labors were treated as minorities, controlled by their bosses and weren t getting paid what they
deserved so this led to the unionizations, strikes and vandalisms. Farmers were in declined because
bigger farms were taking over and they were getting less money. They didn t understand why this was
happening if they had new machines, so this led to the Green Revolution and several political
activities. However, these complaints that both labors and farmers have, have their similarities and
differences.
Labors did not have very good wages and it was problem during the Gilded Age. Labors had to live by
paternalism, meaning that George Pullman owned them. It seems as if labors never got a profit for the
long hours that they worked in the sweatshops. All the money goes straight back to Pullman, because
they had to pay for rent and their goods and groceries provided by him. So basically, Pullman didn t
consider them valuable because there was always someone looking for a job. These reasons led to
several unionizations like the Knights of Labor where they had to pay their dues to go on strike and
fight for them. Anyone from radical to bosses could join this union except bankers and lawyers, which
made no sense. They fought for workplace rights but where they did wrong is when they demanded
outside workplace rights such as free public schools for their children. This union caused deaths

Author says that conventional data storage systems (databases) work well with structured data, but
crash under heavy workloads. He describes various distributed file systems like GFS (Google file
system), HDFS (Hadoop distributed file system), and amazon S3(Simple Storage service). All these
file systems handle unstructured data and support fault tolerance by data replication. Specially S3
provides good integration with other amazon services and provides big data processing capabilities to
consumers at an affordable cost in a pas as you go fashion. For storing non structured and semi
structured data, the author provides solutions used in various corporates. He gives examples of
BigTable used by Google and PNUTS used by Yahoo. One that caught my eye is the one proposed by
Facebook, which is a hybrid data management system. It is hybrid in a sense that it combines features
of a row based and column based database systems. Upon research I found that this new system
actually enhances the performance of both query processing and load balancing [2]. The author then
moves on to describe various available cloud vendors. All these Infrastructure as a service (IaaS)

The Vanished Settlements Summary
In chapter 5, The Vanished Settlements , John Viele reveals information about the 21 year span of life
on the Keys. The Civil War, living conditions, mosquitoes, fresh water, and isolation are some of the
main hardships that many of the settlers had to experience, but only a few could endure the setbacks
and live prosperous lives, as well as their families. Henry Geiger, Temple Pent, and Happy Jack were
the most prosperous men during the hard times of the Key West, and through others around them, their
stories can now live on. Viele tells us only a few families remained living in the Keys after the Indian
raids and the Second Seminole War. About 20 homes that were documented on the 1850 census, which
together, held about 40 settlers. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author says he sleeps on a cot and had to use a stool to keep his legs form going through it. He
draws up a picture of Henry s home. The illustration shows that Henry was very luxurious. Henry
made his living through the hauling and selling of wood, tanning deer, and growing vegetables and
fruits, Viele says. Henry had managed the mosquitoes and lived a very successful life. Captain Temple
Pent, was self educated, a skilled seaman, and pilot. Viele informs us, Pent was at sea at an early age
of his life. At the age 16 he began to tend to a piece of land, better known today as Coconut Grove.
After Florida was bought by the US, he became a citizen and had a family. Because of his reputation
at sea, Commodore Porter offered Pent to serve as a squadron official. Pent moved his family to Key
Vacas when the Seminole became violent, and eventually fled to Key West. Records show that Pent
was appointed Inspector of Elections in 1836 and held leadership in a 100 population community. In
1860s, he was the Florida lighthouse keeper and lived there till his death in 1868. Viele shows that
Pent had a lot of political success.
Happy Jack had a plantation that grew various fruits and excellent sweet potatoes , as a 1856 surveyor
notes. Viele tells us that Happy Jack s story is very blurry and comes from two different sources, one a
writer whose article appeared in a Putnam s Monthly paper and the other is a friend. Happy Jack was
one of the members of a happy go lucky band.

Physical Child Abuse
This article connects physical child abuse with violent behavior. Children are sponges therefore, they
soak up everything that they come into contact with. When a child is a victim to child abuse they have
the tendency to become violent and get involve with illegal activity. Abused children will learn that
the world is a hostile place (e.g., Dodge, Bates, and Pettit 1990) and will act accordingly. (Savage,
Palmer, Martin 2014) Therefore abused children will take a physical approach towards problems that
they engage their selves in, which leads to delinquency. When a child is suffering from child abuse
they are less likely to have a bond with their parents. This can cause children disobeying authority as
well as breaking laws. Also, children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Assess the significance of the Great Depression to Germany.
The Great Depression meant different things to different groups of people. For people, it was a very
significant event during 1929 1934, because it was making them lose money. For economy, on the
other hand, it was a very significant event during 1929 1934, because it affected everyone. Ultimately,
the Great Depression had a greater impact on the economy during 1929 1934 because it affected

The Great Depression was a very significant event because it had short term and long term causes on

Worldcom Case Summary
I learned some new things from the case article that were not mentioned in Cynthia Cooper s book
titled Extraordinary Circumstances. However, the gist of it was the same. I will focus my paragraphs
based on the three questions.
What are the pressures that lead executives and managers to cook the books? There are several factors
that can come into play. For WorldCom, it started with the deterioration of the industry in 2000. This
was due to overcapacity, heightened competition, the economic recession, the dot com bubble
collapse, and a reduced demand for telecommunications services. All of these factors put extra
pressure on WorldCom s most important performance indicator, the expense to revenue ratio. The
company was so concerned about keeping it above 42% that they were willing to do anything, even
commit fraud. Bernie Ebbers told the senior staff that they would lose everything if the company did
not improve its performance.
This leads into my second pressure, which deals with personal lives. Employees were receiving
tremendous benefits due to the company s great performance. However, if the company did not
improve, people s salaries would be cut or even worse, their jobs would be cut. That is why so many
people were willing to engage in the fraud, because they felt WorldCom was supplying a salary and
benefits that other companies would not be able to match. Betty Vinson was a prime example. She
knew that releasing line accruals was wrong, but needed to

Neanderthal and Early Modern Humans Essay
Neanderthal and Early Modern Humans
The history of life on earth goes back to millions of years. Many species and creatures evolved and
changed through time, leading up to what we know today as, modern man. One of the creatures most
similar to modern man is the Neanderthals; they are sometimes referred to as early modern humans.
An article entitled Early man steered clear of Neanderthal romance by Michael Hopkin, explains that
there was a discovery that early human ancestors of modern man did not breed with their cousins, the
Neanderthals, according to DNA that has been studied. Neanderthals vanished from Europe between
30,000 and 40,000 years ago, roughly the time that truly modern man made his first appearance in ...

There were 24 Neanderthal remains and 40 early modern human remains that were studied. The
bimolecular preservation of DNA of five early humans and four Neanderthals was helpful enough for
the preservation.
All four Neanderthals yielded the mtDNA sequences similar to those previously determined from
Neanderthal individuals, whereas none of the five early modern humans contained such mtDNA
sequences. In combination with current mtDNA data, this excludes any large genetic contribution by
Neanderthals to early modern humans, but does not rule out the possibility of a smaller contribution
(Serre, 16 March 2004).
Therefore, early modern humans and Neanderthals could have been around and breeding at the same
time, it is just a small chance.
Between 30,000 and 40,000 years ago, Neanderthals were gone from Europe (where these fossils were
found). Right around that time, the early modern humans were beginning to migrate to parts of
Europe. This brings up the point that it could be possible that Neanderthals and early modern humans
came eye to eye, but no one knows what the reactions and attitudes were like if that were true. This is
a question of the history of life, did they exist simultaneously, and did they interact?
Despite intense research efforts, no consensus has been reached about the genetic relationship between
early modern humans and archaic human forms such as the Neanderthals (Serre, 16 March 2004). It is

Conflict at Walt Disney- Case Study
Conflict at Walt Disney

Conflict at Walt Disney Within every organization there is some type of conflict, whether the conflict
is personal, organizational or emotional. But the key is to manage the conflict so as to not hinder the
profitability, functionality or public image of the company so that it is viable competitively. In the case
of the Walt Disney Company, although the company had conflict within the organization, this did not
hinder its competitiveness. The company still was able to compete, even with the public knowledge of
its conflict with the company s owner Michael Eisner. What is important to understand about conflict

Conflict Resolution Managing conflict for organizations is very important in maintaining business
relationships, especially ones that are profitable like that of Disney Pixar. At the helm of the Walt
Disney Company during the begging and end of these feuds was Michael Eisner and Bob Iger. Even
though Michael Eisner is the one responsible for the conflict with Disney and Pixar, he should be
equally responsible for trying to fix the damaged relationship. When trying to manage conflict there
are several approaches that can be taken to resolve the conflict at hand: dominating, accommodating,
problem solving, avoiding and compromising. Eisner s Style. Michael s style of conflict resolution can
be described as dominating. The dominating approach to conflict resolution involves using its power
over the individual to force them into a resolution that is only beneficial to their interests. Being that
Eisner has held some sort of power over the parties involved, such as controlling budgets of the
involved parties or having a hierarchical position within the company, such as the CEO, he uses this
type of approach to solve resolutions. Iger s Style. Bog Iger s conflict resolutions style can be
described as problem solving. Problem solving involves resolving

The Gods Of Classical Mythology
Greco Roman mythology permeates our culture. The primitive belief set based around deities who
represent natural elements has been the foundation for everything from psychology to poetry. It is
nearly impossible to go a day in Western Culture without hearing a reference or allusion to classical
mythology. From corporate logos to clichés, mythology is all around us. Although most of us no
longer worship the sun or the sea as divine, part of the reason why mythology remains so prominent
today is its attempt to explain our position in relation to the divine, to elements of the natural world.
Of course, we have explanations for the behavior of the earth that the early Greeks and Romans did
not, but we still cannot harness absolute control over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study of myth has evolved alongside theories of Greco Roman society, and it is hard for the
modern reader to read myths without imposing their own ideas on them. Most likely this has happened
for as long as we have been studying mythology, and this has an impact on how we look at myths
today. For example, our book talks about homosexuality and feminism as they relate to classical
mythology. These ideas and topics were undoubtedly thought of in a totally different way than they
are today.
As cultures and ideas change, the reading and analysis of myths will unavoidably change with them.
To add to the complexities, there is not much historical record of the true role of women or
homosexuality in Greek or Roman societies. Because women and same sex coupling appear
frequently, we end up speculating about how the creators of myths intended these subjects to be
understood. Because of that speculation, it seems impossible that every reader will have the same
reading. Just like the myths changed as they were handed down, it seems that the way the myths are
viewed and read will change too.
It is also important to keep in mind that there are numerous, sometimes countless, variations of a
single myth. Gods and goddesses traveled and migrated with populations and through generations.
They moved from region to

between countries and even the deadly environment, which the Middle East is known for, the Bedouin
people still continue to live with so much diversity surrounding them. Unfortunately since the 1970 s,

In addition to the idea of using produce as a form of payment, many farmers/households use their
harvest to pay ‘protectors . These protectors are big factors in the Middle East region, especially with
the Bedouin people, as they protect the lands and more importantly the crops of the Bedouin people
from raids of other tribes. This tribute/raid relationship was a simple business proposition whereby the
pastoralist received a needed product (grain) and the farmer acquired a scarce commodity (security)
(Galy 44). As with most pastoral societies, such as the Bedouin peoples, the type of animals
determines the division of labor of which they are herding (for example, camels). However, in order
for the Bedouin people to herd their own animals, they must have claims to land, which is a strong
debatable issue concerning the Bedouin people around Israel. Each Bedouin group seeks to control a
land area that contains sufficient resources to sustain communal life (Galy 45). Each Bedouin group
has their own distinct tract of land in a definite zone (Galy 45). This zone is well known to the
surrounding Bedouin groups, as they are not to interfere with the land. However, in cases of an
emergency, pastoral units are allowed to other surrounding tracts of land, even if any Bedouin group
does not own them. Furthermore, since the Bedouin people migrate close to countries (such as

When humans deviate from Dharma it creates conflicts, which are evident both within individuals and

Banshee has never held back when it comes to violence, the actors and stunt crew train hard to ensure
that every move is flawless in its execution making the sequences often defy what is typically feasible
in the real world in order to entertain. The serial killer plot line changes that up somewhat, in that it
creates a definitive all powerful perpetrator with a vulnerable prey, who instead of giving as good as
they get, feels sheer, guttural terror at their plight. This makes for uncomfortable viewing, even though
Tropper et al. have opted to show only a little of the harm that s being inflicted, instead going for their
classic Banshee edited montages which effectively presents the panic and disturbed mental state the
victim feels during her last few hours instead. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have seen the innocent and helpless being attacked before in the show Soloman and Lana (The

Personally, I am happy with how the show is handling the plot so far, even if some of the scenes are
more difficult to watch than usual. The resulting stakes have never been higher, meaning that the
pressure on characters, such as Brock and Hood for example, are ramped up as we rush headlong

Physical Therapy Reflection Paper
It was the summer of 2015, it was one the biggest transformation years in high school athletics going
from my freshman year to my sophomore year. There was a different plan for my summer other than
sports. I had my knee in a brace the whole summer while having crutches underneath my armpits for
most of the summer. This brace was large, it went from my ankle to my upper thigh with 4 straps and
metal rods on the side of my legs. I was putting all my trust into the brace to keep my knee stable and
not hurt it more. It was my first day of Physical Therapy I was at Summit Orthopedics in Vadnais
Heights, and I smelt the same things as I did the time I came the first time to OrthoQuick. It was the
smell of hand sanitizer and elder people. What I saw was the elder people waiting for their name to be
called to go back with their physical therapist. My physical therapist name was Derek. He brought me
back to a room that was no bigger than an average observation room. We started physical therapy by
engaging my quad and then releasing it. The part that I was surprised by the most is the electrical
stimulation. They put patch on each side of my quad and connect wires to the patches, and it felt like
my quad was vibrating and tingling on a beat. The time I was there before my surgery was one of the
hardest day to comprehend in my life it was the day that we went over the MRI. It showed that there
was fluid behind the cartilage in my femur Dr. Sekenzel then told me that I was going to

The Effects Of Child Maltreatment On Children
In my research paper, I am going to discuss the negative effects that child maltreatment has on a child
throughout their childhood and their life. Child maltreatment is defined as any act or series of acts of
commission or omission by a parent or other caregiver that results in harm, potential for harm, or
threat of harm to a child (US Department of Health and Human Services, 2007). Child maltreatment
includes physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, as well as neglect and failure to supervise (Franks,
Miller, Schelble, 2010).
Children who are abused tend to have a lot of emotional and psychological problems. Some of these
problems can be treated if taken care of immediately, but unfortunately for some children these issues

They begin thinking that it is their fault that these things are happening to them. Some of the children
my mother had witnessed and encountered many negative things; which left a damaging effect on
them. They would have nightmares, act out in school and wet the bed. Further on in my paper, I am
going to discuss child maltreatment and the effects it has on children. I am also going to discuss the
interventions used to reduce the effects.
Child Maltreatment: Negative Effects
Child maltreatment represents one of the most heinous examples of the failure of the caregiving
environment to promote positive social and emotional development (Cicchetti Toth, 2005). Research
has demonstrated that child abuse and neglect are associated with a variety of negative and enduring
psychological, behavioral, and social outcomes (Cicchetti Valentino, 2006; Widom, 2000). In addition,
maltreatment appears to be one common thread that links systems involved youth (Stone Zibulsky
(2015).
From my personal experience, I have seen the negative outcomes that child maltreatment has on
children. As of now my mom has two foster children, both brother and sister they have been with us
for nine months. When they originally came to us their older sister was with them, but now her father
has custody of her. The brother was severely abused by his father and his mother allowed it to go on.
The mother was also being abused by the father and the older

Global Public Health and War Surname Professor Date Global Public Health and War Public health is
essentially what the society does to assure its people of health and safety (Institute of Public Health,
1988). War is a significant anathema to public health and directly accounts for almost millions of
deaths occurring annually throughout the world. Apart from bruising and injuring the public health, it
destroys the societal infrastructure as well food and water supplies, adequate housing, access to good

threat to large populations of people. The nuclear bombs that were detonated in Hiroshima and

force that is equivalent to about 15, 000 tons of TNT. The explosion killed and fatally wounded
approximately 100,000 people. An additional number of people were also injured from the heat and
radiation causing different illnesses. In the 1950s, the Soviet Union and the United States developed
hydrogen bombs, also thermonuclear weapons that were similarly based on nuclear fission. These had
an explosive capability that is similar to twenty million tons and more of TNT. An analysis of the
medical consequences of these new weapons by medical organizations like the Physicians for Social

Essay on Analysis of Birches by Robert Frost
In the poem Birches by Robert Frost, Frost portrays the images of a child growing to adulthood
through the symbolism of aging birch trees. Through these images readers are able to see the reality of
the real world compared to there carefree childhood. The image of life through tribulation is the main
focal point of the poem and the second point of the poem is if one could revert back to the simpler
times of childhood. The language of the poem is entirely arranged through images, although it
contains some diction it lacks sound devices, metaphors, and similes compared to other published
works by Frost. The first half of the poems images are of life, coming of age, and death.

of the poem deals with the coming of age the second half of the poem deals with childhood and
wanting to stay young for as long as possible. The first image of childhood by Frost is when Truth
broke in With all her matter of fact about the ice storm, I should prefer to have some boy bend them. A
boy bending the trees in stead of ice storm allows the tree to never age because they will always return
to their original shape and never break by the burden of a load. This is further expressed By riding
them down over and over again Until he took the stiffness out of them. Once the trees lose their
stiffness the boy can play on them repeatedly without having to worry about them breaking therefore
if they never shatter or falling then youthfulness will always be his. Finally Frost talks about how he
would like to go back to being a boy swinging and climbing on trees just as he did when he was

The Internet As A Participatory Culture
The internet is populated by over 2 billion users across the globe (Ross, 2013, p. 10). The early days
of the web, also called Web 1.0 are over; the internet is now in Web 2.0. Web 2.0 is characterized by
openness, participation, and sharing , in other words, user generated content (Kim, Jin, Kim, Shin,
2012, p. 305). These terms underwrite the internet as a positive, democratic space. Another list of
words could be added, which has a somewhat negative sound to it: exploitation, losers, free labor, and
enclosure. (Peterson, 2008). Media corporations encourage users to view their contributions to the
web as participatory and inclusive. However, user generated content is more appropriately understood
as exploitative. This paper will explore the ways in which user generated content supports and deepens
hegemonic power structures under the guise of a participatory culture. This essay will outline the ways
in which internet users are empowered to perform labour for free and how this work is then exploited
by companies which users are told to love and trust. Internet users populate websites and smartphone
applications such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, and Pinterest. These social
media platforms are presented as tools to connect with other people in the online and real world by
uploading, sharing, and liking user generated content. The use of these networks is presented as
advantageous and beneficial to individuals social lives. Users are also empowered

The Bretton Woods System On The World s Natural Riches
Nature has always played an important role in human history. Increase in international trade,
globalization and creation of big corporations caused negative impact on the environment. The new
economic framework established after the end of the World War II benefited the interests of the
multinational corporations. The Bretton Woods system was aimed to boost the production and
consumption of commodities. The World Bank and the IMF, led by the US, financed corporations and
exploitation of resources. The Bretton Woods system was supposed to make use of the world s natural
riches. The fall of Communism in the world gave more power to the corporations and led to the
creation of the free market system. The US government tried to help underdeveloped nations to export
wood, livestock and other commodities to industrialized countries.
The establishment of new financial institutions helped the public works projects to rise. One of the
examples of these projects was the Tennessee River Valley in 1933. The government constructed 20
dams and coal fired power plants with a purpose to provide electricity to poor areas. Although the
project provided many benefits, it also created a quite few ecological concerns. Construction of dams
flooded to many areas. Mining of coal caused pollution and erosion. The same situation was evident
across the globe. Thailand has built 26 irrigation and hydroelectric projects since 1957. Most of them
were financed by the World Bank. The country started

Essay about The Republican Party in Sinclair Lewis Babbitt
The Republican Party in Sinclair Lewis Babbitt
Sinclair Lewis Babbitt portrayed a man bent on following his political party; his actions seemingly
followed that religiously, and today s version of the Republican Party is proof that we are not too far
off from Lewis version, despite the expanse of time. George Babbitt, the main character in Lewis
novel, viewed the world in the eyes of a businessman. He saw immigrants as a waste to society,
business and the means to survive, and the ability to own the latest and greatest inventions as top
priorities in his life. One must, in the 1920s and well as in today s world, set themselves in a political
affiliation, generally one that describes the person and how he is. To ... Show more content on

Babbitt was just the icon of the Republican viewpoint.
Lewis probed into the Republican policies in order to write a character about them. Babbitt attempted
a change, a way of rebelling against his mechanical lifestyle, which one could view as someone s
break of the political system. It was too hard for him though, as his friends pressured him to join the
Good Citizens League and end this crazy rebellion. His downfall inevitably came over his wife s
operation, and he began to preach, the crimes of labor unions, the perils of immigration, and the
delights of golf, morality, and bank accounts (Lewis 368) more than ever. Lewis hinted through that
statement that the Good Citizens League was little more than a political club, or more specifically, an
offshoot of the Republican Party itself. Once again, Babbitt reflects the party s actions and policies in
what he speaks about, also saying a great deal about who was part of that party.
If the party was like that over seventy five years ago, and many would consider such thoughts corrupt,
the Republican Party surely must have changed over such a long time. The success of the Democrats
during the Great Depression and World War II led many to believe that the Republican Party was the
cause of the Great Depression. Its policies certainly would direct themselves toward the contrary yet
still the blame rested on them. The blame still rested

Teaching And Mentoring Experience For Undergraduate Students
Teaching and Mentoring Experience
Teaching has been a fundamental component of my academic training. I have been actively involved
in teaching, tutoring, and mentoring high school and undergraduate research students throughout my
doctoral and postdoctoral work at the City University of New York (CUNY). I taught General
Chemistry (I II) laboratory courses and recitation sections at CUNY for four years. I volunteered as a
physical chemistry tutor for undergraduate students from CUNY. At St. John s College of Liberal Arts
and Sciences, my teaching assignment included a General Chemistry Laboratory course that also
involved a synergistic approach to conducting several laboratory sessions guided simultaneously by
two instructors.
Along with Dr. Ruth Stark and her graduate students at City College, I designed a curriculum for a
biophysics foundation course ( Touring the tomato: A suite of chemistry laboratory experiments )
geared for undergraduate and high school students seeking research experience through CUNY s
College Now program. The eight module course introduces a panel of analytical techniques for
studying the structural properties of biopolymers obtained from an inexpensive source such as the
tomato fruit at increasingly detailed molecular levels. In its final phase, students design independent
research projects related to structural investigations of various biomaterials obtained from fruits and
vegetables. We tested our new curriculum by giving a summer

What Are The 5 Approaches To Health Promotion
There are five different approaches to health promotion, each of these have different aims, methods
and means of evaluation they are not guidelines but individually reflect different ways of working.
(Naidoo Wills, 2009.)
The Medical/Preventive model is scientific and targeted towards high risk groups, the main aim is to
prevent disease and reduce morbidity and premature mortality. The approach is broken down into
three stages these being: Primary prevention The first stage of the approach aims to ensure people are
aware of risks and try to prevent disease through encouraging individuals to take the right steps
towards good health. Secondary prevention This stage is about preventing the growth of further
disease, by using methods such as screening for early diagnosis. Tertiary prevention The final stage is
about reducing disease or illness in the individual and ensuring that recurrence of a disease is
prevented.
The behavioural change model encourages individuals to adopt healthy behaviours into their lifestyles
in order to improve their health. The individual has to take responsibility and want to change their
health behaviours, health professionals are there to advise and educate them how to improve their
health through this change. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

you start to get your whole body in shape, you need to practice a healthy lifestyle. This means you
need to exercise and eat a healthy diet. It may sound difficult and you may have this notion that it
requires a great amount of effort, but you can make it not as hard as you actually think it is. When you

Adventures Of An Engineer s Thumb Essay
In the short story The Adventures of an Engineer s Thumb , written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a
hydraulic engineer named Victor Hatherley seeks the help of Dr. Watson and Sherlock Homes as he is

found on his land. Stark tells Hatherley that he himself can t be seen working on his property for fear
of his neighbors finding out that he had stuck into a gold mine. Even though Hatherley was
unconvinced of Stark s explanation, he decided to accept the job because he was in need of money. It

cannot easily accommodate Black Molly with other fish in fresh water or salt water tanks.
You should make some on line research and also consult your pet shop owner about how much salt
needs to be placed in the water.

Usually it resembles a black guppy fish. This is a live bearer fish. So you need to provide a lot of baby
fish around the adults. If you keep a pair of a male and a female with no young ones around, they may
not be comfortable with the environment and may develop stress which may even result in their death.
In spite of these specific requirements, Black Molly is an easy fish to care. You should put the fish in a
tank with the water capacity of 10 gallons or more. This is required for taking care of their living
environment. The fish will grow up to two inches over a period of time. If you want to keep a family
of them in the tank, which is recommended, you should calculate the water capacity at two gallons per
one inch of fish. So if the family consists of 10 members, you can keep them in a tank of 20 plus
gallons.
The temperature of water should be kept in the range of 75 85 degrees. You should install a lighting
system to provide sufficient light for them. They will usually require 6 hours of light every day. Please
do not keep the light for longer time. In that case, the temperature of the water will increase and the
fish will get over heated. Providing light for 6 hours will resemble their natural

Examples Of Usury In The Catholic Convention
Usury remains denounced in the Catholic convention, however as Germain Grisez brings up: The
Church never taught that all charging of interest is wrong, but only that it is wrong to charge interest
on a loan in virtue of the very making of the loan, rather than in virtue of some factor related to the
loan which provides a basis for fair compensation. At the end of the day, there is improvement yet not
disagreement in the custom. Finnis closes: Aquinas record of usury, brought with his general
hypothesis of remuneration, in this manner distinguishes standards (not leads made up by moralists or
ministers) which empower us to see why in his period it was unjustifiable for banks to make a charge
(however portrayed) in the way of benefit,

Mount Everest Formation

GEO 150
February 24, 2016
Introduction
Mount Everest is commonly know as the highest mountain on earth located in Nepal and Tibet in the
Mahalangur mountain range. With a peak of 8,848 meters or 29,029 feet above sea level, Mount
Everest is the location of the international border between China and Nepal neighboring with peaks
such as Lhoste, Nuptse and Changtse.
Rock Descriptions
The rocks that comprise Mount Everst are subdivided into three formations, each separated from one
another by low angle faults or detachments. The three formations consist of sedimentary and
metamorphic rocks and are the Qomolangma Formation, the North Col Formation and the Rongbuk
Formation. The Qomolangma formation is the top peak of the mountain ... Show more content on

The portion of the Qomolangma formation that is between 8,200 to the top of 8,600 is called the
yellow band. The reason it s called the yellow band is because of the Cambrian deposit and marble its
made up of which resembles a yellow pigment. In the North Col formation, mudstone, limestone and
sandstone are imbedded within each other as a result of the metamorphic stage. The base of this
formation is referred to as the Lhoste detachment and is a low angle normal fault. About 24 million
years ago when the Indian and the Asian planes collided, the Indian plane subducted as a result. From
this the Indian plateau was made which thus created the metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. We can
find these rocks faulted towards the south in an upward motion primarily due to the Cenozoic collision
of the two continents. The Many sills and dikes intrude the rocks in this formation as previously
mentioned as the Higher Himalayan leucogranite, which is formed by partial melting of
Paleoproterozoic to Ordovician high grade metasedimentary rocks. This melting inhibited the creation
of the Rongbuk formation by the pressure caused by the collision that forced the rocks into a
downward then back up direction. The heat of the melting under sea level then pushed the rocks to the
surface of the southern

Football Vs Baseball Research Paper
Football and Baseball have many similar ideas but also contradict each other in a variety of ways.
Baseball has many distinctive characteristics. In professional baseball when teams play each other,
they usual play a series within three to four games. Teams usually play two series a week which
results in 6 games week. So as a starter one is looking at around 54 innings a week. Players usually get
an acclaim and one rest day unless one s a starting pitcher. Players get that one rest day flying to the
next city they happen to be playing in. Baseball teams fly much more often than pro football teams.
The location of the game tells one how much a team is traveling.
Teams that play on the east coast and vice versa go on trips where they might go ... Show more

Football is considered a physical sport for many reasons. On each play in the game of football one s
full speed getting ready to hit someone. As a result of the game being physical many retired players
have major brain injuries and often have post dramatic stress. One sees many articles about players
killing themselves or committing major crimes. Many moms in America are sagacious to let their son
play because it s a dangerous sport. And then we have the people that say that football being physical
turns a boy to a man. With the game being so physical many see more injuries than in other sports and
so therefore much more healing time. As for baseball there s not really time to prepare for the
opponent. That s the complete opposite for football in professional football. Coaches begin watching
film right after they play a game. Coaches try to Impel an edge by trying to pick apart what their next
opponent does best and what they have trouble doing. Coaches will tell whoever asks that they spend
more time preparing than coaching. Jon Gruden, a sports commentator and former coach, is my
mentor. Reading his book, I learn that that he eats dinner watching film and wakes up drinking coffee
and watching film. Gruden adds, I m up at 3:17 most days and that includes home and away games. In
the game of football all 11 guys have to be on the same page to be successful. One wrong move a by a

Happellate Court Cases
One aspect of the American judicial process about which consensus exists is that every loser in a trial
at court has the right to appeal to a higher court. But, sometimes the appeal process is misunderstood.
In the U.S. an appeal is not a retrial of the case, nor its ordinarily a reexamination of true issues
concluded by a trial court. The U.S. appellate courts does not hear a new testimony and does not
consider new evidence, they mainly focus on how the decision was made in the trial court record.
Their mainly goal is primarily to review the issue of law presented in a case. An appellate court was
created in part because of the theory that it is better to have several heads when it comes to examining
legal questions. In effect, the decisions of a single judge matters of the law are forced to be reviewed
by a panel of judges who are taken away from the heat grown by the trial and are positioned to take a
more overview of the legal questions being raised. They control the functioning as multi member or
collegial bodies, with decisions made by a group of judges. In the courts, usually all the judges
participate in all cases in appellate courts the decisions are made up of using three judge panels, but in
important cases, all the judges may have to participate or referred to an en banc hearing. Finally, the
complexities of the review process, helps by asking why appellate courts exist and why dissatisfied
litigants are able to appeal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the trial, a significant portion of decision making is spur of the moment. Luckily, judges make
fast decisions and sometimes mistakes occur, as recalling bodies, appellate courts supervise the work
of the lower courts, making sure that the law was correctly interpreted. But even though the error
correction functions of the appellate review it protests against capricious, mistaken legal decisions by
a trial court judge, or

The Cask Of Amontillado By Edgar Allan Poe
Connoisseurs often adhere to the changing of wine based on its age. Although the process of aging
may alter the flavor compounds, texture, or color of the beverage, one cannot predict improvement nor
deterioration. Centuries have passed since Edgar Allan Poe described the death of a gullible fool, yet
the taste of a murderer s Amontillado wine remains bittersweet. Although the work is fictional, The
Cask of Amontillado provides a nefarious and dismal libretto, depicted as a tale of pride, revenge, and
a murder in cold blood. Through the use of symbolism, theological allusion, and foreshadowing,
Edgar Allan Poe s The Cask of Amontillado suggests taking pride in seeking revenge on enemies is
addictive and intoxicating.

Here, Poe incorporates Montresor s usage of trickery as a biblical allusion, where Montresor
symbolizes the serpent, cunning and eloquent. He tempts Fortunato an allusion to Eve in the Garden
of Eden with a forbidden fruit: The cask of Amontillado (King James Version, Gen. 3.15). The
forbidden fruit in the Bible represents an equilibrium between good and evil; furthermore, the
Amontillado wine shows a conflict between Montresor and Fortunato, mirroring a good versus evil
scenario. The temptation of tasting the Amontillado presented a status symbol Fortunato craved:
Tasting a rare wine and proving his connoisseur skills were stronger than Luchesi, a competitor
mentioned briefly by Montresor (Poe). The temptation of seeking a newfound status proved similar in
the case of Eve, who assumed that once she ate the fruit she would have an independence from God
that she did not previously have (Stewart). Similar to Eve, Fortunato portrayed uncertainty; despite
adequate premonitions, both did not have [the] best interest in mind and succumbed to temptation
(Poe, Stewart).
As Montresor and Fortunato venture the abyss of the catacombs, an eerie theme and scene linger.
Montresor defines the catacombs as a long and winding staircase accompanied with damp grounds ...
encrusted with nitre , a poisonous compound laden along the walls (Poe). The nitre sickens Fortunato,
and the use of onomatopoeia allows the reader to conceptualize the cacophony

Gender Discrimination In Crawling Across Broken Glass
Deep into Discrimination
Have you ever walked into a public place and knew everyone was judging you? You felt the glaring
stares as you walked with your head down to the back of the room. As you sat, you could hear the
whispers and unspoken thoughts that stirred around you. You knew you didn t fit in. You knew you
were not liked. You knew you were not wanted. This has happened to many people due to harsh
discrimination based on nationality, race, and gender. As I ve grown up, I ve faced this experience
many times. I was adopted, along with three siblings from multiple countries by Caucasian parents. A
lot of people have positive judgments, but plenty others have negative ones. It can get to the point
where nowhere feels safe and it can feel like you re alone. A lot of research has ... Show more content

People have written hundreds of stories such as, The Help, by Kathryn Stockett which tells a story of
many injustices based on race, Crawling Across Broken Glass, which tells a story of a woman who
beat the odds of gender discrimination, and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, by John Boyne which is a
story based on religious differences. Some books even take a more obvious approach such as, The
Face of Discrimination, by Vincent J. Rosigno and Religion or Belief, Discrimination and Equality.
Newspapers and magazines have written thousands of articles based on discrimination of all kinds.
Cartoons and comics have storylines based on the horrible circumstances many people face daily due
to their appearance. I can add personal experiences and share a few other peoples thoughts regarding
discrimination. How has discrimination improved over the years? Is it still an issue?

Despite the fact that one can only wonder as to the capability of the ordinary level employees to
decline to adjust the financial statements of Tyco International Ltd., is it likely that only Kozlowski
and Swartz were enmeshed in the unprincipled acts? Are there other employees mixed up in the
misconduct of Tyco International Ltd.? Will the level of violations to which the SEC accused Tyco
International Ltd. entail the participation of various employees? If Tyco International Ltd. had put an
effective OCB program in place to prevent unethical behavior, would such an occurrence have
deterred or discouraged the irrevocable decisions of Kozlowski and Swartz? Or maybe the scandal
that ensued was merely the illustration of one s greediness overwhelming one s moral beliefs?
Conclusion
With the level of unethical conduct and the level of the executives involved, it will be difficult to
ascertain the impact OCB may have had on the alleged persons. Personnel are simply human who will
act up intermittently, but individual actions should not have the power to virtually bring down a big
organization such as Tyco International Ltd. Most companies are now realizing the effect of OCB on

Memory Database And Cloud Computing
Consider In memory Databases and Cloud Computing In Memory Database / Cloud Computing
Approach The industrial use of databases is advancing to the point where modern and fast solutions
are required in most industries. Plattner (2011) states that Sub second response time and real time
analytics are key requirements for applications that allow natural human computer interactions. We
envision users of enterprise applications to interact with their software tools in such a natural way, just
like any Internet user interacts with a web search engine today by refining search results on the fly
when the initial results are not satisfying (Plattner, 2011). Keeping up with the South River hospital
and pharmacy s growth requires keeping up with this database technology. Subsequent queries are the
second, third, and so on, queries similar to when web users perform a search using their search engine,
only to refine the specifics to remove results non sequitur from their intended query. A sub second
response from the database is needed to keep the users mind on the task at hand and to not wander off.
As Plattner states: Any interval sufficiently longer than the speed of thought interval will be detected
as waiting time and the user s mind starts wandering to other topics, which is a process that cannot be
consciously controlled. How this affects our users be they clinical or pharmacy, is increased accuracy
to healthcare through technological advancement. Plattner further states

Stevens Johnson syndrome is a rare immune response in which the person s epidermal layers die and
are shed (Cooper, 2012). It proves to be fatal when not identified early and interventions started.
Although, despite early identification and interventions death does still occur. Stevens Johnson is
considered to be part of a spectrum of Severe Cutaneous Adverse Reactions (Knepel, 2008). The other
two conditions on the spectrum are Erythema Multiforme at the lesser end, and Toxic Epidermal
Necrolysis on the more severe side. TENS can overlap with SJS, along with being used
interchangeably by some (Cooper, 2012). Due to the fact that Stevens Johnson is so rare the
information and studies on it are lacking in quantity and quality. ... Show more content on

interstitial edema, gastrointestinal issues ranging from diarrhea to ulceration and bleeding, ocular
issues such as conjunctivitis to inflammation, photophobia up to and including loss of vision (Cooper,

Whatever is a dismissive word often used by a mother who having grown tired of repeating the same thing over and over, has given in and has ultimately stopped caring. Only once, they overcome this barrier, are Colman and Millie able to grieve together. Following this is the relationship between Edith and her husband. Though we never hear from her husband, we learn about him through Edith. Edith is an elderly white lady who has been widowed for a long time. Her husband was a black man who had come from Africa to Scotland on a boat. He came over as a young man at the turn of the century. At this time, racism was still very prominent and so interracial couples were virtually non existent. Edith says that people were shocked that she was going out with, no, married to, a black man. A black man in a white country at the beginning of the 20th century was almost certain to encounter racism and inequality. Like Joss, Edith s husband was lucky enough to meet and marry someone who accepted him for who he was as a person. This total acceptance and love for a man who society at the time said she should discard and look down on as beneath her gives promise that had she of been told, she would have been accepting of Joss choice to become a man in the best embodiment that he could achieve as Edith has been portrayed as a non judgemental, un conforming and loving character. Making Healthier Lifestyle Changes As A Fibromyalgia Patient Chapter 17 Conclusion Making Healthier Lifestyle Changes as a Fibromyalgia Patient Exercise, a good sleep routine, and a healthy diet can improve the condition of a fibromyalgia (FM) patient. If a person already has concerns with regards to healthy living even before being diagnosed with FM, improving these three areas may be difficult. Sometimes a patient gives into the pain and other FM symptoms rather than trying hard to see beyond the pain, fatigue, and all the other symptoms associated with a FM diagnosis. It is much better to aim for a healthier lifestyle to improve overall wellbeing. Gentle and Mindful Exercise can Help Although pain and fatigue may hamper the patient from doing some form of exercise, all efforts must be made to start with at least short walks or other gentle exercise as this will have a long term effect on the improvement FM symptoms. Yoga can be a good form of exercise for people with FM because it isn t strenuous. There may be some difficulty with yoga because of the joint and muscle pains so the patient must take care to select the poses and stretches that are comfortable. In addition, exercise is good for the brain as it releases serotonin, a mood enhancing chemical. Exercise therefore will be a big help if the patient feels the stress often associated with FM. Another benefit of exercising is that it may fight depression, another symptom that most FM patients also suffer from. A Restful Night is a Must The body needs a good night s sleep to ... • 4. Men and Women Were Created Equ Essay By: Robert E mail: an@cancom.net Men and Women were Created Equal Men are not superior to women, they are equal in every way. Although it is true that society has stereotyped women into traditional roles, this preconceived notion, is totally false. Action to promote the concept of equality in our society needs to be taken. Women have been fighting for equality for many decades. As a result of this battle, some amazing transformations have taken place amongst the female gender. Women have become educated and over the last few decades have started to take active roles and their rightful place in society. They have made major inroads in working opportunities, including government, science and even the military. This monumental step allows women to become takers, as well as producers of life. Women now have equal rights and responsibilities in the defense of our country. These advances have been made, not only on the ground but in the air as well. In 1988, Deanna Brasseur became Canada s first female fighter pilot. That same year, the defense department appointed their first female general, Sheila Hellstrom. The department also stated that women often do better at riflery than men due to the fact that they listen to instruction while men tend to think they know it all. A male veteran sergeant, proud of his work with female recruits, says that: Today s women won t find anything that hard to adjust to in the military. The facts are telling a tale. Many doors are opening for women and they are barreling through with boundless energy and determination. The 21st century is here and the traditional role of the stay at home mother is all but disappeared. Marriage and children are still signs of the successful women, however women are less willing to accept exclusive roles of housewife and mother. It also tries to study the age related constrains on memory flexibility that causes the transfer deficit so as to increase the creation and effective use of infant directed media in early education. The study of the deferred imitation of media shows that the infants can learn from picture books, television and touchscreens, and the imitation from television starts from 6 months (Barr, 2013). The results of live demonstrations for infant to imitate is much better than that of the televised and the book demonstration. The author makes some suggestions for improving the usage of media for infant learning. First of all, he suggested that the quality of infant directed media should be improved to facilitate the infant learning. The commercial products could repeat content, have realistic photographic images and familiar characters to enhance visual mapping between 2D presentations and the 3D objects, and feature labels and well timed sound effects to enhance auditory (Barr, 2013). These features can help reduce the transfer deficit between the 2D and 3D format. The author also stated that since the infant s engagement in the child directed television programs are significantly influenced by parents engagement and description of content, so parents and educators could improve infant learning through all 2D materials, not just books. I agree with the suggestion that infants should learn through various sources, including 2D materials, books, etc. Many parents prefer to let their children to mostly acquire knowledge from books, while the visual materials can better help the infants to access to the complex knowledge, thus improving their learning ... • 6. Labors And Slavery During The Gilded Age During the Gilded Age both labors and farmers had very strong reasons to have these complaints. Labors were treated as minorities, controlled by their bosses and weren t getting paid what they deserved so this led to the unionizations, strikes and vandalisms. Farmers were in declined because bigger farms were taking over and they were getting less money. They didn t understand why this was happening if they had new machines, so this led to the Green Revolution and several political activities. However, these complaints that both labors and farmers have, have their similarities and differences. Labors did not have very good wages and it was problem during the Gilded Age. Labors had to live by paternalism, meaning that George Pullman owned them. It seems as if labors never got a profit for the long hours that they worked in the sweatshops. All the money goes straight back to Pullman, because they had to pay for rent and their goods and groceries provided by him. So basically, Pullman didn t consider them valuable because there was always someone looking for a job. These reasons led to several unionizations like the Knights of Labor where they had to pay their dues to go on strike and fight for them. Anyone from radical to bosses could join this union except bankers and lawyers, which made no sense. They fought for workplace rights but where they did wrong is when they demanded outside workplace rights such as free public schools for their children. This union caused deaths ... The Civil War, living conditions, mosquitoes, fresh water, and isolation are some of the main hardships that many of the settlers had to experience, but only a few could endure the setbacks and live prosperous lives, as well as their families. Henry Geiger, Temple Pent, and Happy Jack were the most prosperous men during the hard times of the Key West, and through others around them, their stories can now live on. Captain Temple Pent, was self educated, a skilled seaman, and pilot. Viele informs us, Pent was at sea at an early age of his life. At the age 16 he began to tend to a piece of land, better known today as Coconut Grove. After Florida was bought by the US, he became a citizen and had a family. Because of his reputation at sea, Commodore Porter offered Pent to serve as a squadron official. Pent moved his family to Key Vacas when the Seminole became violent, and eventually fled to Key West. Records show that Pent was appointed Inspector of Elections in 1836 and held leadership in a 100 population community. In 1860s, he was the Florida lighthouse keeper and lived there till his death in 1868. Viele shows that Pent had a lot of political success. Happy Jack had a plantation that grew various fruits and excellent sweet potatoes , as a 1856 surveyor notes. • 13. Worldcom Case Summary I learned some new things from the case article that were not mentioned in Cynthia Cooper s book titled Extraordinary Circumstances. However, the gist of it was the same. I will focus my paragraphs based on the three questions. What are the pressures that lead executives and managers to cook the books? There are several factors that can come into play. For WorldCom, it started with the deterioration of the industry in 2000. This was due to overcapacity, heightened competition, the economic recession, the dot com bubble collapse, and a reduced demand for telecommunications services. All of these factors put extra pressure on WorldCom s most important performance indicator, the expense to revenue ratio. The company was so concerned about keeping it above 42% that they were willing to do anything, even commit fraud. Bernie Ebbers told the senior staff that they would lose everything if the company did not improve its performance. This leads into my second pressure, which deals with personal lives. Employees were receiving tremendous benefits due to the company s great performance. However, if the company did not improve, people s salaries would be cut or even worse, their jobs would be cut. That is why so many people were willing to engage in the fraud, because they felt WorldCom was supplying a salary and benefits that other companies would not be able to match. Many species and creatures evolved and changed through time, leading up to what we know today as, modern man. One of the creatures most similar to modern man is the Neanderthals; they are sometimes referred to as early modern humans. An article entitled Early man steered clear of Neanderthal romance by Michael Hopkin, explains that there was a discovery that early human ancestors of modern man did not breed with their cousins, the Neanderthals, according to DNA that has been studied. Neanderthals vanished from Europe between 30,000 and 40,000 years ago, roughly the time that truly modern man made his first appearance in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were 24 Neanderthal remains and 40 early modern human remains that were studied. The bimolecular preservation of DNA of five early humans and four Neanderthals was helpful enough for the preservation. All four Neanderthals yielded the mtDNA sequences similar to those previously determined from Neanderthal individuals, whereas none of the five early modern humans contained such mtDNA sequences. In combination with current mtDNA data, this excludes any large genetic contribution by Neanderthals to early modern humans, but does not rule out the possibility of a smaller contribution (Serre, 16 March 2004). Therefore, early modern humans and Neanderthals could have been around and breeding at the same time, it is just a small chance. Between 30,000 and 40,000 years ago, Neanderthals were gone from Europe (where these fossils were found). Right around that time, the early modern humans were beginning to migrate to parts of Europe. This brings up the point that it could be possible that Neanderthals and early modern humans came eye to eye, but no one knows what the reactions and attitudes were like if that were true. This is a question of the history of life, did they exist simultaneously, and did they interact? Despite intense research efforts, no consensus has been reached about the genetic relationship between early modern humans and archaic human forms such as the Neanderthals (Serre, 16 March 2004). The primitive belief set based around deities who represent natural elements has been the foundation for everything from psychology to poetry. It is nearly impossible to go a day in Western Culture without hearing a reference or allusion to classical mythology. From corporate logos to clichés, mythology is all around us. Although most of us no longer worship the sun or the sea as divine, part of the reason why mythology remains so prominent today is its attempt to explain our position in relation to the divine, to elements of the natural world. The study of myth has evolved alongside theories of Greco Roman society, and it is hard for the modern reader to read myths without imposing their own ideas on them. Most likely this has happened for as long as we have been studying mythology, and this has an impact on how we look at myths today. For example, our book talks about homosexuality and feminism as they relate to classical mythology. These ideas and topics were undoubtedly thought of in a totally different way than they are today. As cultures and ideas change, the reading and analysis of myths will unavoidably change with them. To add to the complexities, there is not much historical record of the true role of women or homosexuality in Greek or Roman societies. Because women and same sex coupling appear frequently, we end up speculating about how the creators of myths intended these subjects to be understood. Because of that speculation, it seems impossible that every reader will have the same reading. Just like the myths changed as they were handed down, it seems that the way the myths are viewed and read will change too. It is also important to keep in mind that there are numerous, sometimes countless, variations of a single myth. Gods and goddesses traveled and migrated with populations and through generations. Unfortunately since the 1970 s, the Bedouin people are in a clash with the Israeli government concerning land rights and the assimilation of the Bedouin people into the Israeli society. Nonetheless, the Bedouin people still strive for the self sufficiency and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to the idea of using produce as a form of payment, many farmers/households use their harvest to pay ‘protectors . These protectors are big factors in the Middle East region, especially with the Bedouin people, as they protect the lands and more importantly the crops of the Bedouin people from raids of other tribes. This tribute/raid relationship was a simple business proposition whereby the pastoralist received a needed product (grain) and the farmer acquired a scarce commodity (security) (Galy 44). As with most pastoral societies, such as the Bedouin peoples, the type of animals determines the division of labor of which they are herding (for example, camels). However, in order for the Bedouin people to herd their own animals, they must have claims to land, which is a strong debatable issue concerning the Bedouin people around Israel. Each Bedouin group seeks to control a land area that contains sufficient resources to sustain communal life (Galy 45). Each Bedouin group has their own distinct tract of land in a definite zone (Galy 45). This zone is well known to the surrounding Bedouin groups, as they are not to interfere with the land. However, in cases of an emergency, pastoral units are allowed to other surrounding tracts of land, even if any Bedouin group does not own them. Furthermore, since the Bedouin people migrate close to countries (such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The man responsible wasn t as careful this time round though. He s made a fatal error, and fortunately he s not even aware of the mistake, meaning that it shouldn t be too long before someone will finally be able to start make inroads in tracking down who he actually is. Banshee has never held back when it comes to violence, the actors and stunt crew train hard to ensure that every move is flawless in its execution making the sequences often defy what is typically feasible in the real world in order to entertain. The serial killer plot line changes that up somewhat, in that it creates a definitive all powerful perpetrator with a vulnerable prey, who instead of giving as good as they get, feels sheer, guttural terror at their plight. This makes for uncomfortable viewing, even though Tropper et al. have opted to show only a little of the harm that s being inflicted, instead going for their classic Banshee edited montages which effectively presents the panic and disturbed mental state the victim feels during her last few hours instead. ... There was a different plan for my summer other than sports. I had my knee in a brace the whole summer while having crutches underneath my armpits for most of the summer. This brace was large, it went from my ankle to my upper thigh with 4 straps and metal rods on the side of my legs. I was putting all my trust into the brace to keep my knee stable and not hurt it more. It was my first day of Physical Therapy I was at Summit Orthopedics in Vadnais Heights, and I smelt the same things as I did the time I came the first time to OrthoQuick. It was the smell of hand sanitizer and elder people. What I saw was the elder people waiting for their name to be called to go back with their physical therapist. My physical therapist name was Derek. He brought me back to a room that was no bigger than an average observation room. We started physical therapy by engaging my quad and then releasing it. The part that I was surprised by the most is the electrical stimulation. They put patch on each side of my quad and connect wires to the patches, and it felt like my quad was vibrating and tingling on a beat. Child maltreatment is defined as any act or series of acts of commission or omission by a parent or other caregiver that results in harm, potential for harm, or threat of harm to a child (US Department of Health and Human Services, 2007). Child maltreatment includes physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, as well as neglect and failure to supervise (Franks, Miller, Schelble, 2010). Further on in my paper, I am going to discuss child maltreatment and the effects it has on children. I am also going to discuss the interventions used to reduce the effects. Child Maltreatment: Negative Effects Child maltreatment represents one of the most heinous examples of the failure of the caregiving environment to promote positive social and emotional development (Cicchetti Toth, 2005). Research has demonstrated that child abuse and neglect are associated with a variety of negative and enduring psychological, behavioral, and social outcomes (Cicchetti Valentino, 2006; Widom, 2000). In addition, maltreatment appears to be one common thread that links systems involved youth (Stone Zibulsky (2015). While the first half of the poem deals with the coming of age the second half of the poem deals with childhood and wanting to stay young for as long as possible. The first image of childhood by Frost is when Truth broke in With all her matter of fact about the ice storm, I should prefer to have some boy bend them. A boy bending the trees in stead of ice storm allows the tree to never age because they will always return to their original shape and never break by the burden of a load. This is further expressed By riding them down over and over again Until he took the stiffness out of them. Once the trees lose their stiffness the boy can play on them repeatedly without having to worry about them breaking therefore if they never shatter or falling then youthfulness will always be his. Increase in international trade, globalization and creation of big corporations caused negative impact on the environment. The new economic framework established after the end of the World War II benefited the interests of the multinational corporations. The Bretton Woods system was aimed to boost the production and consumption of commodities. The World Bank and the IMF, led by the US, financed corporations and exploitation of resources. The Bretton Woods system was supposed to make use of the world s natural riches. The fall of Communism in the world gave more power to the corporations and led to the creation of the free market system. The US government tried to help underdeveloped nations to export wood, livestock and other commodities to industrialized countries. The establishment of new financial institutions helped the public works projects to rise. One of the examples of these projects was the Tennessee River Valley in 1933. The government constructed 20 dams and coal fired power plants with a purpose to provide electricity to poor areas. Although the project provided many benefits, it also created a quite few ecological concerns. Construction of dams flooded to many areas. Mining of coal caused pollution and erosion. The same situation was evident across the globe. Thailand has built 26 irrigation and hydroelectric projects since 1957. Most of them were financed by the World Bank. The country started ... George Babbitt, the main character in Lewis novel, viewed the world in the eyes of a businessman. He saw immigrants as a waste to society, business and the means to survive, and the ability to own the latest and greatest inventions as top priorities in his life. Babbitt was just the icon of the Republican viewpoint. Lewis probed into the Republican policies in order to write a character about them. Babbitt attempted a change, a way of rebelling against his mechanical lifestyle, which one could view as someone s break of the political system. It was too hard for him though, as his friends pressured him to join the Good Citizens League and end this crazy rebellion. His downfall inevitably came over his wife s operation, and he began to preach, the crimes of labor unions, the perils of immigration, and the delights of golf, morality, and bank accounts (Lewis 368) more than ever. Lewis hinted through that statement that the Good Citizens League was little more than a political club, or more specifically, an offshoot of the Republican Party itself. Once again, Babbitt reflects the party s actions and policies in what he speaks about, also saying a great deal about who was part of that party. If the party was like that over seventy five years ago, and many would consider such thoughts corrupt, the Republican Party surely must have changed over such a long time. The success of the Democrats during the Great Depression and World War II led many to believe that the Republican Party was the cause of the Great Depression. What Are The 5 Approaches To Health Promotion There are five different approaches to health promotion, each of these have different aims, methods and means of evaluation they are not guidelines but individually reflect different ways of working. (Naidoo Wills, 2009.) The Medical/Preventive model is scientific and targeted towards high risk groups, the main aim is to prevent disease and reduce morbidity and premature mortality. The approach is broken down into three stages these being: Primary prevention The first stage of the approach aims to ensure people are aware of risks and try to prevent disease through encouraging individuals to take the right steps towards good health. Secondary prevention This stage is about preventing the growth of further disease, by using methods such as screening for early diagnosis. Tertiary prevention The final stage is about reducing disease or illness in the individual and ensuring that recurrence of a disease is prevented. At the end of the day, there is improvement yet not disagreement in the custom. In the North Col formation, mudstone, limestone and sandstone are imbedded within each other as a result of the metamorphic stage. The base of this formation is referred to as the Lhoste detachment and is a low angle normal fault. About 24 million years ago when the Indian and the Asian planes collided, the Indian plane subducted as a result. From this the Indian plateau was made which thus created the metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. We can find these rocks faulted towards the south in an upward motion primarily due to the Cenozoic collision of the two continents. The Many sills and dikes intrude the rocks in this formation as previously mentioned as the Higher Himalayan leucogranite, which is formed by partial melting of Paleoproterozoic to Ordovician high grade metasedimentary rocks. • 45. Happellate Court Cases One aspect of the American judicial process about which consensus exists is that every loser in a trial at court has the right to appeal to a higher court. But, sometimes the appeal process is misunderstood. In the U.S. an appeal is not a retrial of the case, nor its ordinarily a reexamination of true issues concluded by a trial court. The U.S. appellate courts does not hear a new testimony and does not consider new evidence, they mainly focus on how the decision was made in the trial court record. Their mainly goal is primarily to review the issue of law presented in a case. An appellate court was created in part because of the theory that it is better to have several heads when it comes to examining legal questions. In effect, the decisions of a single judge matters of the law are forced to be reviewed by a panel of judges who are taken away from the heat grown by the trial and are positioned to take a more overview of the legal questions being raised. They control the functioning as multi member or collegial bodies, with decisions made by a group of judges. In the courts, usually all the judges participate in all cases in appellate courts the decisions are made up of using three judge panels, but in important cases, all the judges may have to participate or referred to an en banc hearing. Centuries have passed since Edgar Allan Poe described the death of a gullible fool, yet the taste of a murderer s Amontillado wine remains bittersweet. Although the work is fictional, The Cask of Amontillado provides a nefarious and dismal libretto, depicted as a tale of pride, revenge, and a murder in cold blood. He tempts Fortunato an allusion to Eve in the Garden of Eden with a forbidden fruit: The cask of Amontillado (King James Version, Gen. 3.15). The forbidden fruit in the Bible represents an equilibrium between good and evil; furthermore, the Amontillado wine shows a conflict between Montresor and Fortunato, mirroring a good versus evil scenario. The temptation of tasting the Amontillado presented a status symbol Fortunato craved: Tasting a rare wine and proving his connoisseur skills were stronger than Luchesi, a competitor mentioned briefly by Montresor (Poe). The temptation of seeking a newfound status proved similar in the case of Eve, who assumed that once she ate the fruit she would have an independence from God that she did not previously have (Stewart). Similar to Eve, Fortunato portrayed uncertainty; despite adequate premonitions, both did not have [the] best interest in mind and succumbed to temptation (Poe, Stewart). Memory Database And Cloud Computing Consider In memory Databases and Cloud Computing In Memory Database / Cloud Computing Approach The industrial use of databases is advancing to the point where modern and fast solutions are required in most industries. Plattner (2011) states that Sub second response time and real time analytics are key requirements for applications that allow natural human computer interactions. We envision users of enterprise applications to interact with their software tools in such a natural way, just like any Internet user interacts with a web search engine today by refining search results on the fly when the initial results are not satisfying (Plattner, 2011). Keeping up with the South River hospital and pharmacy s growth requires keeping up with this database technology. Subsequent queries are the second, third, and so on, queries similar to when web users perform a search using their search engine, only to refine the specifics to remove results non sequitur from their intended query. A sub second response from the database is needed to keep the users mind on the task at hand and to not wander off. As Plattner states: Any interval sufficiently longer than the speed of thought interval will be detected as waiting time and the user s mind starts wandering to other topics, which is a process that cannot be consciously controlled. How this affects our users be they clinical or pharmacy, is increased accuracy to healthcare through technological advancement. Plattner further states ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
