My Father Is A Second Generation
As anyone in America can relate, heritage and where we come from can construct our personality,
build our demeanor, and in some cases, determines who we are as people. It often amazes me when I
step foot into a class room, or go into a local bar, even walk down the street and see how many
different faces there are. In some aspect, when I look close enough, I can see dead people. Not dead as
in walking zombies, but a glimpse of the past ancestors that helped mold these individuals into the
people standing before me. With that in mind, when I look the mirror I can see who came before me
and through past stories I can feel the struggles that Italians felt as they crossed the ocean to become
Americans.
My father is a second generation Sicilian who grew up in East Lynn, and my mother is a second
generation Northern Italian, who grew up in West Lynn. One of the stories I often hear is how the
Italians and the Sicilians never really got along, and frequently butt heads. Naturally it was very
Romeo and Juliet like that they would end up together. When they become husband and wife my
mother had gone to the jewelers and had this pepper like charm created. This amulate is known as the
Italian Horn, or Cornicello . Although it is more known today, this charm was hard to come by and not
well known outside the Italian culture, and it helped bind the two families together as one. Every
culture has very different ways of doing things, and although Sicily is part of Italy, the two cultures

Executive Functions In Older Adults Essay
Introduction The present paper reviews the benefits of exercise on executive functions in older adults
and discusses a potential mechanism through which exercise may change the way the brain processes
information for better cognitive outcomes. Specifically, older adults who are more physically active
demonstrate a shift toward local neural processing that is associated with better executive functions.
We discuss the use of neural complexity as a sensitive measure of the neural network plasticity that is
enhanced through exercise. We conclude by highlighting the future work needed to improve exercise
prescriptions that help older adults maintain their cognitive and physical functions for longer into their
lifespan.

Age related neuromuscular junction (NMJ) plays a key role in musculoskeletal impairment that occurs
with aging. Changes in the NMJ precede or follow the decline of muscle mass and strength remains
unresolved. When a motor neuron is lost, fibers previously innervated by that neuron, defined as a
motor unit, are no longer controlled by the nervous system and fail to contribute to the force generated
during a volitional muscle contraction. In the attempt to counteract the functional consequence of this
process, denervated orphan fibers express proteins and produce chemotactic signals that stimulate the
sprouting of new dendrites from residual motor neurons. This process leads re innervation by the
expansion of pre existing motor units and is aimed at returning to function previously denervated
muscle fibers. There is evidence that this compensatory mechanism starts failing with aging. The
reason for a progressive impairment of the re innervation process with aging is unknown, but some
lines of evidence point to changes that occur with aging in the neuromuscular junction (NMJ), which
is the synaptic interface between a branch of a motor neuron and muscle cells. The NMJ is composed
of three elements: pre synaptic, intrasynaptic, and post synaptic part. The function of the NMJ is to
transmit signals from the motor neuron to the skeletal muscle fibre quickly and

Social Issues Of Nike
In 1964 Nike was establish under the name Blue Ribbon Sports, yet it only needed 7 years until it
became the undisputed leader of athletic brands in the world. However, as the saying goes that you
need lifetime to build a reputation and five minutes to destroy it the story of child labour or what
became publicly known as sweatshop cases unfolded in 1991 when a picture by The New York Times
of a child sewing a shoes that had Nike logo was revealed to the world. Although employing a child is
alone a catastrophic event, however, the margin of the dilemma widened when critics commented that
workers like that child were not provided with the necessary equipment that will prevent them from
being in contact with toxic chemicals. Moreover, investigations revealed that workers were only
making 11 cents a day where majority of them were children.
This issue declined Nike s revenues and protests around the world were held demanding Nike firms to
be shut down. As a reaction, Nike claimed that the picture was made up and that competitors who

Obesity Treatment Essay
Obesity Treatment When it comes to digesting food normally the food passes through the stomach and
enters the small intestine. Most of our nutrients and calories are absorbed in the small intestine and
then it passes into the large intestine, where remaining waste is excreted from the body. In Roux en Y
Gastric Bypass surgery the doctors only use a small part of the stomach to create a new stomach
pouch, which is roughly the size of an egg. Once the stomach is to the proper size they connect it
directly to the middle portion of the small intestine, which is the jejunum and bypassing the rest of the
stomach and the duodenum, which is the upper portion of the small intestine. The doctors do this
procedure by making several small incisions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One that I noticed is difficult to get after the Roux en Y Gastric Bypass surgery is protein and this is
because of how low the intake is, intercurrent illness, extreme weight loss due to low food intake.
Some of the symptoms due to this is weakness, decreased muscle mass, brittle hair, generalized
oedema. The recommended intake is 1.0 to 1.5 g/kg like fish, eggs, meat, or oral protein supplements.
Patients should generally have their weight and blood pressure measured weekly until the rapid weight

A Brief Note On Porsche s Engine Downsizing
Porsche s Engine Downsizing
There are more than one billion cars in the world right now and this number is increasing everyday
due to the demand of the cars. Most of the cars in the world have big engines right now. What a big
engine means is the eight cylinder V8, ten cylinder V10, or twelve cylinder V12 engines. Those types
of engines have been used for many years in the car industry. All the car manufacturers prefer to use
those engines because people like them and thinking that more cylinder means more power. For many
years those car manufacturers have not realized one thing that big engines emission rates are really
bad and those engines are actually creating tons of carbon monoxide because they have more
cylinders. Basically more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Porsche started to downsize their engines to fit their engine emission rates to the new rules. By that
move, Porsche was one of the first sports car manufacturer that started to downsize their engines.
Downsizing the engine mean is actually pretty simple. They are actually taking 4.8 liter, eight cylinder
V8 engine and changing it with the 3.6 liter, six cylinder V6 engine. When they are making the engine
smaller, they are also adding that engine a turbocharger to make it much powerful as the bigger
engine. (Turbocharger is helping the engine to get more air to the pistons to increase it is performance)
Most of the Porsche customers thought bigger engines were stronger and it makes the car go faster.
Actually, it is not true because when they add turbochargers to the engine, it makes the car much
powerful as the bigger engines. Another thing about the downsizing the engine is the fact that, when
the manufacturer downsizes the engine they are actually making the car lighter. When a car becomes
lighter, it is actually goes faster than the previous models because it has much power as the old model,
but it is lighter. However in order to prove their small engines performance to their customers, in 2014
Porsche started to compete in the FIA WEC 24 hour races to test their new downsized engines to see
their performance and reliability in long endurance races.

The Deal Made Between The Devil And Dr. Faustus Was Sprouted
The deal made between the devil and Dr. Faustus was sprouted by Faustus inability to believe God
loved him and his rejection of all Christian values. Faustus assumes he can control the devil, but no
one can resist being corrupted by the devil and the powers he has. Although Faustus had numerous
opportunities to turn back and seek redemption, he was dominated by his desire to know and learn
beyond his boundaries. The deal truly isn t beneficial for Faustus after considering the exact nature of
their agreement and he was cautioned against the bargain, showing him the fate that a deal with the
devil will never get you the rewards you re looking for. While Faustus had many important goals he
would achieve with magical powers, his deal with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Faustus demands power, Mephostophilis is miserable in hell and wants Faustus s soul where the
two make an unfair bargain. Before Doctor Faustus writes the contract for the deal, in his own blood,
Mephostophilis gives him his last chance to change his mind, which is when Faustus decides to
continue with the deal. After the contract is written, Faustus asks Mephostophilis to bring him a wife,
wealth and super powers. While Faustus believes that Mephostophilis will be his servant for the next
24 years before selling his soul, it soon becomes known that it is Faustus who is the servant to Lucifer
and his devil friends.
Faustus believes that he will come out on top in the deal even if it means eternal punishment in the
end. He puts his temporary pleasures before his fate which shows how impatient and unhappy he
really is. Even when God reaches out to Faustus through the Good Angel , Faustus puts all his trust
into Lucifer. He says, When Mephostophilis shall stand by me, What God can hurt thee, Faustus?
Thou art safe (Act 1 Scene 5. Lines 24 25). Faustus clearly does not value his own soul and does not
reflect on why the devil would want it. Dr. Faustus is deceived about what making a deal with the
devil will encompass. He tells Mephostophilis, Had I as many souls as there be stars, I d give them all
for Mephostophilis. By him I ll be great emperor of the world (Act 1 Scene 3. Lines 101 103).

Questionnaire is one of the most popular techniques for gathering data, where questions in a
questionnaire are designed to be answered asynchronously, i.e. without the presence of the
investigator. A goal must be set, before developing the questionnaire, as developer would like to have
relevant reasons before starting working on something. Targeting the participants is another important
element of collecting data through online questionnaire. In many ways questionnaire is similar to

For example when a participant is asked about to enter his/her date of birth, a pop up message could
tell them what date format needs to be used. Data validation could easily be implemented in web
based questionnaire, which will warn the user about invalid data and tell them what is expected. At the
same time this would help the researchers from not having invalid data when analyzing in the lab. For
example, when asked a teacher what year the school was established? , the answer has to be a four
digit number less than or equal to current year and will not accept text as input. By writing a
validation rule in the back end, this could be accomplished (max char size = 4 and reg. expression (/d)
which will only accept 4 digit number). Skip logic is another simple aspect of web based questionnaire
and it must be implemented when creating and designing a interactive questionnaire. If a respondent
answer a question Yes or No , designer can store 1 or 2 in back end for comparison purpose. Based on
the comparison result, a question or a series of questions can be skipped. For example, if a respondent
answers No when asked if he/she likes to use iPad, rest of the iPad features related questions can be
skipped. Skip logic can be helpful targeting a age range as well. Another easy aspect of creating and
conducting an online questionnaire is faster response rate and automatic transfer of responses

Arab Islamic Medicine Essay
Arab Islamic medicine is made up of a combination of new discoveries and the cultural exchange
between different theories and practices of healing. Religion also had a significant role in Islamic
medicine as ideas from the Qur an, the prophet, and hadiths were pulled together to form several
principles. The attitude of Islam towards the origin of disease was in some ways similar to the Judeo
Christians. Although it was agreed that sickness was usually borne without moral stigma, it was also
believed that Allah caused illness as a punishment for a person s sins or for reasons beyond man s
comprehension. Someone who became ill would not only hope for a curative miracle through prayer,

It was said that Allah had sent a cure for every ailment and it was a Muslim s duty to take care of the
body and the spirit. This in turn provided a motive for improving the quality of healthcare and making
sure that it was accessible for everyone. Additionally, hadiths assisted in laying down guidelines for an
extensive approach to health. In the earlier days of Islam there was much debate over whether or not
Islamic physicians should use Greek, Chinese, and Indian medical techniques. Many people viewed
them as pagan. In the end, many practices and theories were blended into Islamic medicine creating

By the middle of the 1700 s, a significant organization took place. From New England to Georgia,
different groups of Baptists began to form churches. They had only one doctrinal requirement that
united them, i.e., the believer s baptism by full immersion in water; also, Baptists then had different
theological doctrinal beliefs. Notwithstanding, in the 1700 s, Baptist leaders sought to unify and
homogenize the Baptist theology; they founded colleges and formed associations. However, the cause
of religious liberty, was also a unanimous and significant characteristic that united the majority of
Baptists. Their participation within their communities distinguished from other denominations. The
Baptists were not contending for tolerance but for absolute religious liberty. Theirs demand was not
for their right only but for the right of all dissenters and non conformists as well. Some historians
affirm that religious liberty in America was accomplished due to the diligence of the American
Baptist, which now is proven to be the greatest contribution to American science and statecraft. 11

V For Vendett The Role Of Anarchism In Society
Every since it s ideas were popularized in the media by the 2006 movie, V for Vendetta, anarchism has
been a topic of mass confusion and fierce discussion. In a general survey taken in Newton High
School, 1 out 30 people surveyed actually knew the definition of anarchism, where as the remaining
29 people believe the ideas of anarchism are purely chaotic, and advocate for lawlessness, which leads
me to the thesis statement of this essay: Anarchism is largely misconstrued in society. I m going to
prove that my thesis statement is true through the use of 3 main points: 1. What anarchism truly is, 2.
Different kinds of anarchism, and 3. The history of anarchism.

For all anarchists, freedom of the individual is humanity s purest treasure, and it has become their
chosen role to fight tirelessly for its survival. Even in the land of the free and home of the brave,
unfettered freedom is sought by few men, for it is a condition full of peril and heavy with
responsibility. Nor is the United States as close to the spirit of its national anthem as it once was. The
frontier is gone. Small farms and personal businesses are giving way to agricultural combines and big
industry, and the individual standing alone finds he has little influence in selecting his leadership or
shaping national policy. (Forman, 75). Using this excerpt from James D. Forman s book Anarchism,
political innocence or social violences? , one can deduce what anarchism is. Anarchism is a political
theory, which is skeptical of the justification of authority and power, especially political power. As I
mentioned early, Anarchy and Anarchism are two things, Anarchy is a condition of life without the
intrusion of governance and the mechanisms and institutions of the state, whereas Anarchism is
essentially the ideology in which Anarchy is achieved. That being said, there is a problem that occurs.
some anarchists believe that the best and only way to achieve anarchy is through anarchism. The
implication is that a majority of a given population would necessarily need to be anarchists, and only
one type of anarchist. This would result not in anarchy as a condition of existence, but of the
institutionalization of a particular type of

Similarities Between Luxembourg And The United States
Luxembourg is known to have the best health care system in the world. In Luxembourg, every citizen
has health care insurance and each member is protected by basic medical coverage. Citizens in
Luxembourg have health care taxes taken out of each check which is on average 5.44 percent of gross

necessary, if someone chooses to have an elective procedure one must self pay. Options are given to
the citizens to have private health insurance in case one was to become severely ill or next an

companies are looking for new ways to market their products. They have come up with the idea of

integration of the brands Aston Martin, Audi, Aurora, Caterpillar, CNN, Coca Cola Zero, Heineken,

particular, exhibits exceptional leadership skills which carried over to other areas of the facility as he
ascended the administrative ladder to his current station, Chief of Staff. Dr. James Goff, a Vascular
surgeon by training and a Veteran of the Gulf Wars himself, exhibits this inspirational leadership, via

Additionally, we function on a daily basis, constantly monitored by metrics, one of which looks at
wait times for initial consult appointments, and our system cannot differentiate between an initial visit
and a follow up visit. So, some middle management person in primary care, took it upon themselves to
make a unilateral decision to put patients on waiting lists. Many of these patients suffered from cancer.
The nature of cancer requires clinical evaluation in a timely manner. The standard of care for cancer
patients always cycle towards improving care in every way possible. While we currently deal with an
archaic EMR for our scheduling, we remain tasked with caring for our Veterans in a timely fashion, in
accordance with the standards set by cancer accrediting societies in the nation. In order to accomplish
this, we need to maintain the ability to rise to the challenge of constant change. We also live fiscally
limited by decreased funding and staffing to accomplish these steep goals.
Our Change Leader
Dr. Goff exhibited the skills of a leader long before he joined the NMVAHCS team. A captain in the
Army he led dozens of men, and saved the lives of hundreds more by operating on their war time

How Did The Great Depression Affect The American Film...
The Great Depression, characterized by a global economic downturn, was accelerated in the United
States by the Wall Street Stock Market Crash of 1929. In the aftermath of the Stock Market Crash, it
was widely presumed that the American Film Industry was impervious to the recession, but eventually
signs of economic distress were apparent in the three business components of filmmaking production,
distribution and exhibition. The impact of the Great Depression on the American Film Industry was
the negative financial consequences experience by major film companies and the exhibition market,
which led to the implementation of The Code of Fair Competition in motion picture, and brought to
the forefront the inability of Wall Street to keep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paramount raised money to expand exhibition through an exchange of stock with a repurchase
agreement of $80 a share (Schuchman, Balio, 1994), which poses an issue because legally they have
to be honored whenever the stipulated time ends. This meant that if the shareholders decided to
exercise their right to the agreement, they could cash in their shares whenever they wanted,
specifically to gain profits in a market crash. As a result, Paramount garnered losses that they would
have to deal with for years to come. In a similar pattern of poor financial decisions, William Fox,
attempting to make the world s largest motion picture enterprise, made the decision to finance a
controlling share in Loew s Inc. with money borrowed from AT T and Halsey, Stuart Company
(Schuchman, Balio, 1994). Even though this was an ambitious takeover, the problem was that in
effect, his company would be in violation of the Sherman Anti Trust Act, 1890 thereby giving the
government an opportunity to stop the deal and plunge the company into financial distress. To add to
this, William Fox could no longer sustain himself and needed to relinquish control of the company to
Harley C. Clarke in exchange for cash (Schuchman, Balio, 1994), which left the company in the
absence of the original owner. This was a phenomena which was very common during the Great
Depression. Universal Pictures founder, Carl Laemmle, had to sell off his shares due to taking out
financial loans to support production. Universal had a shortage of money after selling off all of its
theaters in 1933, which eventually led to Laemmle borrowing $750,000 from J. Cheever Cowdin s
Standard Capital Company in 1935 in exchange for the right to purchase of major interest in the studio
for $5.5 million in ninety days (Schuchman, Balio, 1994). Even though contractually, this was a fair

INTRODUCTION
The state of Israel emerged on May 15, 1948. It was the first Jewish state to be established in nearly
2,000 years and was the culmination of efforts by the Jews to secure a homeland for themselves.
This paper will explore the major reasons for its creation. It will be shown to be a long enduring quest
that has biblical origins. Subsequently both biblical history and geography will be worthy of ... Show

Palestine is the Holy Land of three of the world s major religions Islam, Judaism and Christianity.
They all have significant historical and religious sites in this region. (Harper, 1986, p.17)
The biblical claim, supported by the historical claim by the Jews, is at the heart of the major reasons
for the creation of the state of Israel. Its creation was based on the belief by Jews that the land was
promised to them by God. Even though there has been a series of take overs and occupations by others
in this area and the occurrence of numerous persecutions of Jews (which will be commented on later
4
in greater detail) worldwide since, causing other reasons for Jews to seek refuge in a homeland of their
own, the Biblical reasons should not be underestimated as a major factor for the state of Israel being
realised in the first place.
It was after Jewish exile and disaspora thereafter worldwide and the subsequent ramifications of this
that caused renewed motivation for the creation of the Jewish state. One such example came in the
form of Zionism.
ZIONISM
Since the abovementioned exile, the Jews experienced a broad disaspora and settled in numerous parts
of the world, notably Europe and the United States. There had been many persecutions of the Jews
during this period. In particular, this occurred during the nineteenth century in Russia and eastern
Europe, where there were many

Child Exposure to Domestic Violence

The policy issues that seem to be a major concern in the United States is about children being exposed
to domestic violence in the home. No one really looks at what the children have to go through when
this happens. There could be some major damage done to the children that have been exposed to this
happening. Boston police go on an average of about 200 calls a month on domestic violence. The
content of the video on Child exposure to Domestic Violence was a personal crime. First we need to

It seems like the younger the child is they will exhibit a higher level of emotional and psychological
distress then what an older child will. People who commit domestic violence against one another with
a child or children present never think of the outcome and how it will affect the child or children. If
these children continue to see all of this domestic violence especially if it is a young boy, they may
result in continuing this same behavior throughout childhood. There were not any future implications
that were discussed in the video. Yet, I have some future implications that I would like to talk about.
For instance the three year old boy in the video yet again witnessed his father being arrested for the
restraining order that was in place. This young boy really does not understand what is happening to his
family, meaning what is really happening with his father. A future implication that I think should be in
place is one that makes both parents responsible for the actions of domestic violence, but at the same
time then we would be hurting the child. The world needs to think about the child and not themselves.
There is a lot of content specific information that is relevant to the video that I selected. There was an
article that stated children who live with domestic violence face increased risks: the risk of exposure
to traumatic events, the risk of

Why I Want To Pursue A Fine Arts Degree In Film
Films are an insight into human imagination, and each unique film offers the audience a chance to
experience worlds that would never exist. While literature also appeals to human imagination, adding
a visual element never fails to enhance the experience for audiences to encompass the storytelling of
directors, screenwriters, cinematographers, and even film producers.
Storytelling has been apart of my life since before I can remember. I vividly remember going to a
midnight showing of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith even though I fell asleep and awoke to Anakin
Skywalker slain by Obi Wan Kenobi on Mustafar, I knew films had impacted me in a way that I could
not describe at such a young age. As I aged, I gave movies so much thought that I became ... Show

Working at the movie theatre proved difficult at times, but I fell deeper in love with applying my
knowledge of movies to working concessions or ushering auditoriums because I have over one

modern Hollywood. There is no doubt in my mind that pursuing a career in Film Production, with a
Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Film Production and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business
Administration will be immensely significant to my future. I cannot think of a better platform that will
emphasize my passion for politics and my passion for films. The decision for pursuing a film career
not only comes from my love for films, but also my passion for breaking the glass ceiling that
oppresses many women and men of color from pursuing their dreams in Hollywood because success
for one of us is success for all of us. A career that appreciates the high quality of cinema and the
business of individuals who want to create art is something I could never have asked for until now.

to me that pursuing a career in film is the right path for

Erectile Dysfunction Essay
Impotence or erectile dysfunction (ED) is a disease that affects men. Many people suffer from this
disease, at least once in their lives. The exact data for this disease is hard to gather, because many
patients are not comfortable talking about it. These patients are in need of an intervention that they can
receive, without having to reveal that they are suffering from a sexual condition to their peers and
neighbours.
One of best interventions for ED is the Viagra UK. This famous drug formation is known all around
the world and can ensure that people can actively engage in sexual activities regardless of their age
and psychological condition. There are various advantages of taking Viagra. Here, we describe the

the body, which is also associated with other drugs.
Advantages of Viagra
There are several advantages of taking Viagra. Here, we describe some of the important ones.
Treating ED
The first and foremost advantage of using Viagra, is that it allows you to fight off erectile dysfunction,
which is a problem that may make you suffer from other physical and psychological issues. It once
again allows people to start having intimate sexual contact with their loved one.
Swift Help
Viagra helps quickly and can allow an impotent person to have an erection after a few minutes. This
means that a patient can take the medicine only when they require it. This means that they only take
the least amount of medicine, which significantly reduces the side effects that are associated with the
medicine.
Helping Heart Patients
Heart patients who have problem in their arteries can also benefit from the action of Viagra. It causes
vasodilation allowing the lowering of blood pressure. It is ideal for people who suffer from

A Brief Note On Preventative Medicine And Education
Preventative Medicine and Education Poor health and homelessness has been connected through
multiple studies. Having poor health can cause homelessness. On the flip side, being homeless can
also cause poor health. Being homeless brings a list of complications including limited access to
getting proper health care. This causes the health of the homeless population in the United States to be
worse than that of the general population. Common health problems in the homeless population
include: mental health problems, substance abuse problems, bronchitis and pneumonia, problems
caused by being outdoors, wound and skin infections, along with the complications that follow each of
the listed problems (Medicine Plus, 2016). Along with the list of problems previously stated, many
homeless women are victims of domestic or sexual abuse. Children often have high rates of emotional
and behavioral problems, many times caused from having witnessed abuse. Studies have shown 31
46% report having a chronic medical problem. (NHCHC, 2001, p.1). According to these statistics
almost half of the homeless population are suffering from chronic health problems. The majority of

address the living challenges, they use extraordinary amounts of human services. Visits to a facility

Measuring the cerebral blood volume has always been a focal point of several neuroimaging studies in
order to get a better understanding of the varied structure function relationships within the human
brain. Being one of the most complicated structures in the human body, the brain sits inside our head,
protected by the skull and is made up of billions of neurons. The Cerebrum, cerebellum, and the brain
stem, which turns into the spinal cord, are the three parts of the brain which are responsible for
carrying out actions, thoughts, and maintaining hemostasis. (4) The cerebrum is divided into four

Doppler ultrasound is a way to measure the peak systolic and diastolic velocities. Resting peak
velocities in both common carotid and internal carotid arteries decrease as individual ages. If a
stenosis is present, then the internal carotid velocity increases relative to the normal values. To get an
estimate of the blood flow, researchers use Doppler and B mode ultrasound measurements. (3) By
examining the blood flow at the bifurcation ridge in the carotid artery, we could determine few key
features of the blood that is being delivered to the brain via the carotid arteries. Nearly two thirds of
the entire flow, enters the internal carotid artery and the velocity of the blood in the proximal internal
carotid artery is usually higher on the wall next to the bifurcation.

How and Why Is Endometriosis Important to Know About There are many diseases that impact a

women s bodies and fertility that can have different causes but a few treatments.
Not many women know what exactly endometriosis is, because no one does research on it. There was

Hurdle And Gerrit Cole In Major League Baseball
Imagine it is the final game of the Major League Baseball (MLB) season in the seventh inning of an

game, allowing only one unearned run. The Jays lead 1 0 and Gerrit Cole is up next to bat. The
question then for General Manager, Clint Hurdle, is whether to pinch hit for him in exchange for a
better hitter, or to leave him in the game so he can continue to pitch. If only there was a way to keep

What it comes down to is the difference between the need to do something and the option to do
something. None other than Bill James, a widely known baseball writer, noted that the perceived
strategy is actually very trite, predictable, and actually nonstrategic. Instead of manager s deciding on
what substitution, or lack thereof, can give their team an advantage, they are forced with situations in
which they must bunt, must pinch hit, and must double switch. As James notes, the American League
game allows a true option, and thus true strategy. This means that whatever AL managers decide to do
when it comes to offensive batting substitutions, they do so to benefit their team, not because they are
forced to do so (Meehan, 2013). These substitutions, including the commonly used double switch
where a pinch hitter is substituted for the pitcher and the next inning is substituted again for a relief
pitcher, take up time in the game. It is significantly a problem in the MLB where the longevity and the
slow pace of the game has caused many fans to get bored sitting through a full nine innings.
Especially with the addition of instant replay, the game continues to get longer and it has become a
challenge for many fans to watch an entire game. Brian Costa, sports reporter for the Wall Street
Journal, wrote an article about the reasons for the length and slow pace of the game. He mentions that
it has become normal for fans to complain about hitters stepping out of the batter s box, pitchers
pacing around the mound and pitching changes. Red Sox Chief Operating Officer Sam Kennedy even
states that this problem is one of the most critical issues facing baseball as we move forward into the
next three, five, seven years (Costa, 2014). Joe Sheehan also wrote an article about the increasing

Carter s The Bloody Chamber
The idea of the female only existing in relation to the male can also be evidenced in Carter s The

Clegg s reactions such as blushing when he is asked by Miranda if he wants to kiss her or if he is
homosexual indicate that because his idealisation of her is that extreme he cannot touch her. To touch
Miranda would ruin his imaginary persona of her, he contents himself in taking photographs of
Miranda in different poses. The male gaze is prominent in the taking of the photos, Clegg states, It
was my chance I had been waiting for. I got the old camera and took some photos, I would have taken
more only she started to move a bit, so I had to pack up and get out quick. (95). Mulvey s theory of the
male gaze occurs when the audience is put into the perspective of a man, when a scene focuses on
such aspects as the curves of a female s body, therefore putting the viewer in the eyes of a male. This
is similar to what is happening when Clegg is taking the photographs as he earlier states I took of her
dress and her stockings and left on certain articles, just the brassieres and the other so as not to go the
whole hog. She looked a real picture lying there (95), by doing this the reader is allowed insight to
Clegg s perspective, it is clear by his language that he is manipulating her, he changes her clothing and
places her down in a position that enables him to focus on her body in order to achieve the desired

Gross Domestic Product
I. Introduction
1. Introduction and objectives
The wealth and success of a country is something that theoretically is very hard to measure and
quantify. However, tools called Indexes can be used to report on the past, present or future state of
country. The usage for these Indexes is quite obvious: they can be used to benchmark the situation of a
country compared to its peers, create historical trends in order to estimate if any improvements have
been made throughout the years in multiple fields. Of course, they can also be used as political tools
for the world leaders for internal purposes (linked to government policies) but also external policies as
it can be a mean to determine the power that a country can have on the international level. The main
Index that has been used for the past 80 years and is still used nowadays to measure the economic
wealth is the Gross Domestic Product (or GDP). It is important to remember that the initial goal of
these indexes (and particularly the GDP) is to measure and give a detailed report of the addition,
subtraction and multiplication of certain numbers that compose a country s economy. Therefore, a
measurement tool is not an end goal in itself.
Nevertheless, this index became the reason for an international competition between countries to
decide which one is the most able to bring this number to the maximum. This might not be an issue if
the GDP was not mainly a measurement of the economic wealth of a country. During the years, new

the conventional Selected mapping method method. Two novel Selected mapping method schemes
were proposed with much lower complexity than the conventional one; the first method uses only one

uses two Inverse Fast Fourier Transform blocks. Computer simulation results show that, as compared

almost the same peak to average power ratio reduction reduction performance. Chin Liang wang

The problem with replanting in the same crop, in the same spot, and burning the dry, dead crops at the

IQ tests are not an accurate measure of a person s intelligence. I will be analyzing the reasons why I
think that IQ tests are not an accurate measure of the intelligence. These reasons will be accompanied
with solid proven facts that will discount the accuracy that is falsely considered to be a part of IQ
tests. Today IQ tests are a part of many instances where intelligence is being judged.
Not an accurate measure The test that has today evolved as the IQ test was initially designed by Sir
Francis Galton. He had designed it to differentiate between the abnormal and normal intellectual
growth in children at that time. The capacities that he tested or that are generally tested today have not

Another issue, with these tests are that many a time people view their criteria as very limited. For, e.g.
Gardner has claimed that there are multi dimensions to a person s intelligence, while these tests only
test a few of them. Thus, the tests are in no position to claim that they really represent the actual
intelligence of a person. The tests assess only a narrow range of abilities therefore if a person is adept
at a characteristic that is not being tested in the test then that person is deemed to be considered a
person with low IQ. Such a practice is not fair and cannot be generalized. (Gardner, 1983) (Plucker,
1998). A big argument is that the word Intelligence has not been defined in its full context yet.
Therefore, when a thing has not been understood properly then how can we design measures to gauge
them. Walter Lippmann a journalist from the 1920s said: We cannot measure intelligence when we
have not defined it. And I totally agree to it because to this day we have not decided upon the
characteristic of intelligence. It contains very many things and to narrow it down to a few would be
like being biased. Many characteristic has been defined, but many to this day remain unknown or
unexplainable. Jean Piaget has said that intelligence us never stagnant it grows and develops as

Part 1: The Shaw festival and the show itself.
History of Shaw festival and Doherty and Rand
Shaw s works were only sporadically performed before 1962. This changed when lawyer Brian

the year of 1962 Doherty was named both artistic director and producer bring the shows Don Juan in
Hell and Candida to the stage. Throughout all of the changes in titles Doherty worked on A salute to
shaw that produced a major milestone on June 12, 1973. That milestone being the opening of the new
Shaw Festival theatre by Queen Elizabeth herself. During this time Calvin Rand arts Professor from
the University of Buffalo became president of the company and help move the company forward.

  • 2. My Father Is A Second Generation As anyone in America can relate, heritage and where we come from can construct our personality, build our demeanor, and in some cases, determines who we are as people. It often amazes me when I step foot into a class room, or go into a local bar, even walk down the street and see how many different faces there are. In some aspect, when I look close enough, I can see dead people. Not dead as in walking zombies, but a glimpse of the past ancestors that helped mold these individuals into the people standing before me. With that in mind, when I look the mirror I can see who came before me and through past stories I can feel the struggles that Italians felt as they crossed the ocean to become Americans. My father is a second generation Sicilian who grew up in East Lynn, and my mother is a second generation Northern Italian, who grew up in West Lynn. One of the stories I often hear is how the Italians and the Sicilians never really got along, and frequently butt heads. Naturally it was very Romeo and Juliet like that they would end up together. When they become husband and wife my mother had gone to the jewelers and had this pepper like charm created. This amulate is known as the Italian Horn, or Cornicello . Although it is more known today, this charm was hard to come by and not well known outside the Italian culture, and it helped bind the two families together as one. Every culture has very different ways of doing things, and although Sicily is part of Italy, the two cultures ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Executive Functions In Older Adults Essay Introduction The present paper reviews the benefits of exercise on executive functions in older adults and discusses a potential mechanism through which exercise may change the way the brain processes information for better cognitive outcomes. Specifically, older adults who are more physically active demonstrate a shift toward local neural processing that is associated with better executive functions. We discuss the use of neural complexity as a sensitive measure of the neural network plasticity that is enhanced through exercise. We conclude by highlighting the future work needed to improve exercise prescriptions that help older adults maintain their cognitive and physical functions for longer into their lifespan. Anatomy Physiology The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Age related neuromuscular junction (NMJ) plays a key role in musculoskeletal impairment that occurs with aging. Changes in the NMJ precede or follow the decline of muscle mass and strength remains unresolved. When a motor neuron is lost, fibers previously innervated by that neuron, defined as a motor unit, are no longer controlled by the nervous system and fail to contribute to the force generated during a volitional muscle contraction. In the attempt to counteract the functional consequence of this process, denervated orphan fibers express proteins and produce chemotactic signals that stimulate the sprouting of new dendrites from residual motor neurons. This process leads re innervation by the expansion of pre existing motor units and is aimed at returning to function previously denervated muscle fibers. There is evidence that this compensatory mechanism starts failing with aging. The reason for a progressive impairment of the re innervation process with aging is unknown, but some lines of evidence point to changes that occur with aging in the neuromuscular junction (NMJ), which is the synaptic interface between a branch of a motor neuron and muscle cells. The NMJ is composed of three elements: pre synaptic, intrasynaptic, and post synaptic part. The function of the NMJ is to transmit signals from the motor neuron to the skeletal muscle fibre quickly and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the same time this would help the researchers from not having invalid data when analyzing in the lab. For example, when asked a teacher what year the school was established? , the answer has to be a four digit number less than or equal to current year and will not accept text as input. (Harper, 1986, p.17) The biblical claim, supported by the historical claim by the Jews, is at the heart of the major reasons for the creation of the state of Israel. Its creation was based on the belief by Jews that the land was promised to them by God. Even though there has been a series of take overs and occupations by others in this area and the occurrence of numerous persecutions of Jews (which will be commented on later 4 in greater detail) worldwide since, causing other reasons for Jews to seek refuge in a homeland of their own, the Biblical reasons should not be underestimated as a major factor for the state of Israel being realised in the first place. It was after Jewish exile and disaspora thereafter worldwide and the subsequent ramifications of this that caused renewed motivation for the creation of the Jewish state. One such example came in the

Having poor health can cause homelessness. On the flip side, being homeless can also cause poor health. Being homeless brings a list of complications including limited access to getting proper health care. This causes the health of the homeless population in the United States to be worse than that of the general population. Common health problems in the homeless population include: mental health problems, substance abuse problems, bronchitis and pneumonia, problems caused by being outdoors, wound and skin infections, along with the complications that follow each of the listed problems (Medicine Plus, 2016). Along with the list of problems previously stated, many homeless women are victims of domestic or sexual abuse. Children often have high rates of emotional and behavioral problems, many times caused from having witnessed abuse. Studies have shown 31 46% report having a chronic medical problem. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What it comes down to is the difference between the need to do something and the option to do something. None other than Bill James, a widely known baseball writer, noted that the perceived strategy is actually very trite, predictable, and actually nonstrategic. Instead of manager s deciding on what substitution, or lack thereof, can give their team an advantage, they are forced with situations in which they must bunt, must pinch hit, and must double switch. As James notes, the American League game allows a true option, and thus true strategy. This means that whatever AL managers decide to do when it comes to offensive batting substitutions, they do so to benefit their team, not because they are forced to do so (Meehan, 2013). These substitutions, including the commonly used double switch where a pinch hitter is substituted for the pitcher and the next inning is substituted again for a relief pitcher, take up time in the game. It is significantly a problem in the MLB where the longevity and the slow pace of the game has caused many fans to get bored sitting through a full nine innings. Especially with the addition of instant replay, the game continues to get longer and it has become a challenge for many fans to watch an entire game. Brian Costa, sports reporter for the Wall Street Journal, wrote an article about the reasons for the length and slow pace of the game. He mentions that it has become normal for fans to complain about hitters stepping out of the batter s box, pitchers pacing around the mound and pitching changes. • 33. Gross Domestic Product I. Introduction 1. Introduction and objectives The wealth and success of a country is something that theoretically is very hard to measure and quantify. However, tools called Indexes can be used to report on the past, present or future state of country. The usage for these Indexes is quite obvious: they can be used to benchmark the situation of a country compared to its peers, create historical trends in order to estimate if any improvements have been made throughout the years in multiple fields. Of course, they can also be used as political tools for the world leaders for internal purposes (linked to government policies) but also external policies as it can be a mean to determine the power that a country can have on the international level. The main Index that has been used for the past 80 years and is still used nowadays to measure the economic wealth is the Gross Domestic Product (or GDP). It is important to remember that the initial goal of these indexes (and particularly the GDP) is to measure and give a detailed report of the addition, subtraction and multiplication of certain numbers that compose a country s economy. Therefore, a measurement tool is not an end goal in itself. Nevertheless, this index became the reason for an international competition between countries to decide which one is the most able to bring this number to the maximum. This might not be an issue if the GDP was not mainly a measurement of the economic wealth of a country. During the years, new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For, e.g. Gardner has claimed that there are multi dimensions to a person s intelligence, while these tests only test a few of them. Thus, the tests are in no position to claim that they really represent the actual intelligence of a person. The tests assess only a narrow range of abilities therefore if a person is adept at a characteristic that is not being tested in the test then that person is deemed to be considered a person with low IQ. Such a practice is not fair and cannot be generalized. (Gardner, 1983) (Plucker, 1998). A big argument is that the word Intelligence has not been defined in its full context yet. Therefore, when a thing has not been understood properly then how can we design measures to gauge them. Walter Lippmann a journalist from the 1920s said: We cannot measure intelligence when we have not defined it.
