Description Of Jack Kerouac s The Road
Description of Jack Kerouac Jean Louis Lebris de Kerouac was born on March 12, 1922 in Lowell,
Massachusetts to immigrant French Canadian parents Leo and Gabrielle Kerouac. Known to his
family as Ti Jean , or Little Jack, he was the youngest of three children. Jack had an older sister,
Caroline, and an older brother Gerard, who died of rheumatic fever when Jack was four years old. As
an adult, Jack was part of what he called the Beat Generation, which referred to an underground
revolution that was quietly happening outside of mainstream politics (Johnson, 2012). Famous for
authoring the best selling book On the Road, which was published in 1957, Jack based his writings on
his personal experience of an alcohol and sex fuelled cross country ... Show more content on

Jack Kerouac routinely went on what he described as binges that lasted for multiple days (Brinkley,
2004). After a particular binge, occurring after a night of drinking beer, whiskey, and vermouth, he
woke up badly beaten and was unable to remember what had happened (Johnson, 2012). According to
his own explanation, Jack used alcohol to provide him with the excitement he needed to combat the
boredom that he experienced (Johnson, 2012). The effect of Jack s alcohol dependence directly
resulted in his death, which occurred due to cirrhosis of the liver caused by alcoholism (Charters,
1973). Hypersexual behaviour is described as an intense sexual drive that leads to poorly controlled,
excessive, and impulsive sexual activity despite negative consequences, such as the risk of emotional
and physical harm (Kor, A., Fogel, Y., Reid, R. C., Potenza, M. N., 2013). Although the DSM IV does
not explicitly include criteria for hypersexual behaviour or sexual addiction, the diagnosis of a Sexual
Disorder Not Otherwise Specified can be used to account for patterns of hypersexual behaviour (Kor,
A., Fogel, Y., Reid, R. C., Potenza, M. N., 2013). Jack s first sexual experience involved a New York
City prostitute, which formed the foundation for a lifetime of impulsive

Persuasive Speech To Join The Military
Specific purpose: to persuade my audience (females) to join the military
Thesis Statement: A few females are joining the military, and those taking leadership roles is even
small, caused by existence of limited information about the Army and less combat roles, and this can
be addressed by lifting ban on women on combat and creating more combat support jobs.
1. Introduction
a). Major General Marcia Anderson is a celebrated woman for having beat the odds to claim a top
leadership position in the Army. She joined the army since she needed a science credit while studying
at Creighton University.
b) Joining the Army was not her dream. Anderson took on the military as a career because she wanted
to change the misconceptions about women taking up leadership roles (McGregor).
c) But Andersons story is not representative of the current trends among females in the military. ...

a). I will discuss some of the reasons why less women join the Army. Currently, females make up 15.7
percent of the U.S. Army. Approximately 16% of the officer corps and 7% of top generals and
admirals in the Armed forces are women (McGregor). The statistics show women still make up a
small percentage out of the total number of military officers in the Army. Few females thus join the
Army. Many females decide to enter the Army mostly for personal reasons ranging from to avoid
economic difficulties. Some join because the Army is the only viable job and that they have looked for
jobs but have not found any. Others join out of a sense of honor, duty and even patriotism. They want
to serve their country in the various capacities. While another group enters, the Army to receive
education benefits, to gain job skills and to see more of the world among others (Jessica). Therefore,
each person always has their reason. But the important thing is once they join the Army, they work
towards protecting the country and its citizens. No one cares what their reasons were as long as they

Pew Research Center Argument Analysis
The Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan American think tank that provides information on public
opinion, demographic trends, and social issues shaping the United States and the world. I used charts
and data from the Pew Research Center to demonstrate that republicans don t trust liberal media
groups; likewise liberals don t trust conservative media groups. All major media groups were
represented and all data was randomly polled. When nobody trusts one another, common ground is
nearly impossible; this is a representation of a polarized society. I also found that both democrats and
republicans trusted the objective media groups, therefore shared interests and harmony between sides
propagate. This statement was extracted from a collection of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Though he is conservative he advocates for objectivity in the media. Douthat is explains how left and

will stray away or bury up stories that may harm their common side. His statement is biased since he
advocates for objectivity. This source is a printed collection of works discussing the pros and cons of a
biased media. It evaluated both areas equally however I found that the objective parts of the article
were the most compelling. The article overall was unbiased and well balanced since it never took a
side. I found many credible sources from the article that helped me pose a persuasive argument to
demonstrate that every journalist should be objective. However further research was needed for I
realized the article didn t focus on the major disadvantages our current media layout has brought us.

Attributes Of God Within Classical Christian Theism
Chapter 2 Attributes of God in Classical Christian Theism
We continue our study of the history of God by looking at His attributes from a number of different
viewpoints. We will first examine the view of Classical Theism, then the view of Freewill Theism, and
finally that of Open Theism. We begin by defining Classical Theism, also called traditional theism or
Augustinian theism.
In a section entitled, The Classical Christian Concept of God, Francis Beckwith gives a short
definition of Classical Theism in See the God s Fall, 59 60:
Classical theism is the theism that has been believed in by most theists in Western civilization. In
particular, classical theism holds that God is (1) personal and disembodied, (2) the creator and
sustainer of all things, (3) omnipotent, (4) omniscient, (5) omniscient, (6) immutable and eternal, (7)
perfectly good and the source of all moral values, (8) necessary, (9) the only God, (10) infinite, (11)
sovereign over all things, and (12) knowable but incomprehensible. .
In this paper, we will discuss only 5 of these attributes: omnipotence, immutability, impassibility,
timelessness and omniscience. Gregory Boyd summarizes these 5 attributes in his book Is God to
Blame? (pp 42 43)
First, many theologians have assumed that if God is all powerful, omnipotent, which the Bible clearly
teaches (e.g., 1Chron 29:11; Jer 32:17; Mt 19:26; Rev 1:8; 19:6), that nothing in his creation can ever
thwart his will. At the very least, it is reasoned, God

Essay On Landlords
Saving Drains From Tenant Tyranny: 10 Ways Landlords Can Keep Their Plumbing Clog Free
Owning rental property can be rewarding and lucrative, but it can sometimes be one headache after
another, especially if tenants misuse or abuse your apartments. Clogged pipes are one instance where
being a landlord can literally drain your time and money to no end. Here are 10 helpful ways to avoid
that mess, once and for all.
1. Specify Who Is Responsible For Clogs In The Lease
You should include a clause in the lease your tenants sign, indicating if they or you will be responsible
for drain cleaning and clogs. Failure to include this information will likely leave you on the hook
every time a slight issue arises with drains. Be sure to read this ... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
This preventative action, too, will work in your favor if the next tenant tries to complain that persistent
clogging is a result of your inaction.
4. Stock Up On Drain Screens For Your Tubs
Drain screens are cheap and easy to store and while you don t want to make a habit of buying things
your tenants should be buying themselves, having extra screens on hand may be worthwhile if doing
so prevents those annoying and often time consuming clogs. You could limit the number of free
screens you provide each tenant, but since you can t force them to buy their own, giving them away
will likely save you money and time in the long run.
5. Equip Washing Machine Hoses With Lint Catchers
If you own washing machines on the property, be sure and equip them all with lint catchers. This will
eliminate a lot of added debris from entering the system and potentially causing more clogs.
6. Never Rinse Your Carpenter Tools In The Sinks
Whether you or hired professionals take care of re grouting, caulking and other carpentry jobs at your
rental units, make sure no one ever uses the sinks to rinse tools off. Even when it s only done
occasionally, all that goop going down the drains can add up to costly clogs later.
7. Clean Pop Up Stoppers Regularly
All of your bathroom sinks should have pop up stoppers in them and it s a good idea for you (or your

Beet Research Paper
Beet is a tuberous taproot belonging to the amaranthaceae family, subfamily being Betoideae. Other
vegetables found in the subfamily are sugar beet, mangelwurzel, and Swiss chard. The scientific name
for beet is Beta vulgaris. Beet greens are the green leaves that are connected to the beet itself, and yes
they are edible.
A half of cup of beet greens give you 30% of your daily vitamin C. Vitamin C is a water soluble
vitamin that acts as a coenzyme to help synthesize certain amino acids, your immune system needs
vitamin C to make white blood cells which fight of infection, and is necessary to produce collagen.

Because vitamin A is not a water soluble vitamin it is able to stay in your system for a longer period.
Vitamin A help you have good vision, it is essential in the retina s transformation of light. This is the
reason why individuals who are at risk of developing night blindness are advised to take vitamin A.
Other health benefits to vitamin A is cell differentiation, healthy skin, and immunity.
Beet greens have vitamin K in them which helps control the clotting of blood. Because of it blood
clotting properties, it work great if you experience excessive bleeding during your monthly period.
May help fight diseases that are common to the elderly, like Alzheimer s disease. It also help if you
suffer from osteoporosis or like to lessen your change of getting that disease. The reason is vitamin K
work alongside calcium to boost the strength in your bones. And for people who suffer from morning
sickness Vitamin K can help with that.
Beet greens are a good source of phytochemical compound, glycine betaine. The property found in
betaine have the ability to lower homocysteine levels in the blood. Homocysteine a highly toxic
metabolite which promotes platelet clot and atherosclerotic plaque formation inside the blood vessels.
Too much of this compound in the blood can damage the blood vessels resulting in development of
coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke, and peripheral vascular

Persian Culture Research Paper
The first traces of human settlement in the region date back to the prehistoric period, circa 9000 BCE
Persians have survived millenniums of invasions and conquests. Persia was a powerhouse of academic
knowledge in ancient times with leaders in astronomy, medicine, mathematics, literature and
philosophy. They have left behind not only intricate art objects, but also tools used for smelting and
refining pottery, as well as making wine. One of the recent archaeological discoveries claims that the
earliest and oldest archaeological finding of winemaking and production comes from an area in Persia
called Hajji Firuz Tepe, a Neolithic village site in northern Iran (Ladjevardian 1999, Berkowitz 1996,

They remember Greeks, Arabs, Mongols, Turks, and most recently Saddam Hussein s forces, all
invaded their homeland. Iranians also remember that the British and Russian empires exploited them
economically, subjugated them politically, and invaded and occupied their country in two World Wars
(Ramazani 2009). Through this all, Iran s geographical area and its people identity have remained
more or less the same. The vast land three times the size of France and twenty times that of the Czech
Republic is demarcated to the North by the Caspian Sea (740 km of coastline) and to the South by the
Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman (2,440 km of coastline). Three fifths of the country, especially the
central plateau, lacks the rainfall to sustain permanent agriculture. Farming is confined to rain fed
Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, and the Caspian coast, to irrigated villages and oases scattered throughout the
county, especially at the foot of the mountain ranges (See Map 1 2) (Abrahamian 2008, p. 1). Iran is a
neighbour to seven countries (Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Turkey, Armenia,
Azerbaijan), which makes it a natural crossroad of civilizations and trade flows. Its rich history shows
that for many centuries Iran has been a key land bridge between Europe and Asia through the
renowned Silk Road and Spice Route (Central Intelligence Agency 2015, Thompson 1983, UNESCO

Optical Properties Of Thick Metal Nanohole Arrays
2. Optical properties of thick metal nanohole arrays fabricated by electron beam and nanosphere
lithography.
INTRODUCTION
Extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) through nanohole arrays has been concentrated broadly in
several aspects, including the hypothesis and confirmation of its origin parameters influencing its
intensity, the optical properties, for example like its transmission spectra and divergence. Several
parameters including the refractive index of the medium on the metal film surface, the wavelength and
condition of polarization of the incident light, the holes shape and periodicity of the structures change
the spectral behavior in term of intensity and position of the transmitted peaks. The structures that
support EOT have discovered their applications in numerous fields including visible spectroscopy,
Raman spectroscopy, sub wavelength optics, nonlinear optics, and photolithography. As the EOT is
influenced by parameters like the shape and periodicity of the holes, devices made in light of this
marvel will be more sensitive and supports larger selectivity. Regardless of these advantages a large
portion of existing use of EOT has been acknowledged on the structures with limited region of
coverage. Because of the constrained techniques and choices for fabrication of such structures, the
EOT based devices were fabricated with finite array sizes. This paper deals with two methods that

Buddha. This makes connections between the lived experience of the sacred and believers, as they are
able to make connections with the buddha. With hands the prayer wheel is spun clockwise because the
mantra or prayer is written in the direction of the movement of the sun across the sky. With speech, we

Compare The Visions Of Cecil John Rhodes And Olive Schreiner
Compare and Contrast the differing visions articulated around 1895 for South Africa s future by Cecil
John Rhodes and Olive Schreiner.
The vision for South Africa during the 1890 s saw for various issues that needed to be dealt with. The
visions of Cecil John Rhodes and Olive Schreiner represent conflicting views about the nature of the
relationship between power and racial notions. Rhodes a British born capitalist, with a vision to
defend and extend the British Empire and Olive Schreiner, a novelist, who envisioned a party that has
a great form of leadership without any racial prejudice and has no attributes of self seeking

Empire, however through notions of policy, it had become clear that there were introductions and
representations of various factors pertaining towards racial discrimination, corruption as well as
others. These representations through policies such as The Glen Grey Act of 1894 which denied a vote
to Africans from that district and, additionally, restricted the size of African owned freeholds,
restricted inheritance rights, and imposed a head tax all measures devised to ensure labour migration ,

Homeless Children and the Educational System Essay
Homeless Children and the Educational System
Many people still think of homeless transients as alcoholics and/or mentally disabled. The truth is, the
current homeless population consists of runaway adolescents, single adult males or females, battered
women and over one million homeless families with children typically headed by a female parent.
To be homeless means that one s primary residence is a public or private shelter, emergency housing,
hotel, motel, living with family or friends or any public space like parks, automobiles, aqueducts or
abandoned buildings (Pawlas, 1996).
Statement of the Problem

Under the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act, the fifty states, Puerto Rico and the District
of Columbia received funding to investigate the number and the needs of homeless children, to
identify obstacles that would prevent them from receiving an education and to develop a plan to
overcome these problems (Pawlas, 1996). The McKinney Act also provides emergency food
assistance, adult literacy instruction, job training, health services and other programs. Under this act,
homeless children are ensured access to the same, free appropriate public education other children in
the state receive.
Subsequently, in 1990 and 1994, amendments were incorporated into the earlier Act of 1987 to ensure
equal access to schools for homeless children. States were told to remove barriers in enrollment,
attendance, or success in schools proof of immunization, guardianship and birth certificate
requirements (Eddowes, 1994). These provisions made it clear that everything possible should be done
to support the educational pursuits of homeless children and youth.
Through the 1990 and 1994 amendments to the early Act of 1987, legislation provided formula grants
for states to carry out the Educational for Homeless Children and Youth Program (subtitle VII B). The
following are key provisions of the law (Rafferty, 1997 1998):

Frankenstein Personal Response
1.) Initially, my first impression of this excerpt was unique. I felt as though I have read similar
situations in other novels, however, the author describes the environment unlike any other. First, I
wondered what the aliens were planning, and what effect it would have on humanity. Similarly, the
characters in the book behaved the same way, some trying to communicate with the aliens, and others
just wondering about them. It felt as though we were all moths flying around a bug zapper, too
mystified to realize the immediate danger posed by the aliens. Only when it was too late, did the main
character break out of his trance and escape.
2.) The genre of this selection is science fiction, however, the excerpt I read could be classified as a

First, the author provides exposition, seen in the first three paragraphs. Second, rising action occurs as
the main character watches as a strange flame emerges in the alien craft. After this, the climax

action ensues, as the main character watches in bewilderment as the alien ship destroys everything
besides him. Concluding, the denouement befalls, as the main character finally flees.
4.) During this excerpt, the protagonist s name is unknown, however, he is the character in which the
story is told. Opposing him, is this strange alien craft which is the antagonist.
5.) The most important traits of the main character are his bravery, curiosity, and humanity. He
displays each of these when he approaches the alien craft, wondering what it is, he asks others around
him. Without these three traits, the narrative would be very different, as he likely would have fled
much quickly.

Physical Exertion Of The Body
In recent years, sedentary has become an increasingly popular term, being used to define a being
adopting an inactive lifestyle with potentially health suffering consequences. Its use has been
predominantly heard by health professionals and the government in the hope to abolish this behaviour
and restore the health (the state of complete mental, physical and social wellbeing, not merely the
absence of illness) (WHO, 2003) of members of society labelled with this tag who are suffering from
sedentary related conditions that potentially require expensive treatment or hospital admission. The
aim is to implement exercise (physical exertion of the body resulting in healthier physical fitness)
(Medical News Today, 2014) targeting several less active sociological groups through means of
initiatives and renovated access to facilities.
Previously, exercise was only referred to at the elite standard. Those that competed in chosen fields of
sport were known to undertake regular exercise to improve the areas of the body that mostly
concerned them. Groups of people that fell outside of this small category were not considered
physically active in the same sense, but they were still regarded fit. Several sedentary related
conditions were not as prevalent in these times as they are now, for example, less people were obese,
coronary heart disease was rarer and depression was less common. One statistic stated that the
prevalence of obesity in England has more than doubled in the last

The La Jolla Symphony concert was held on a warm Saturday night, May 5th, and it was definitely a
memorable experience, since it was the first symphony concert that I have ever attended in my life.
The whole atmosphere was very engaging and the music itself was very different in an insightful way.
Over the course of the concert, five pieces were played as Sameer Patel conducted. Each piece was
incredibly unique in their own way and did associate themselves together and also to many of the
concepts we have learned in class. The concert overall was astonishing that I enjoyed every second of
it and will now attend as many more symphonies as I can. All five pieces seemed to correlate together

Sound painting is also displayed in many of the works. The entire pieces except Stravinsky s I would
say are undoubtedly romantic works. An additional unifying theme that I detected in all the pieces was
that there lies unconventional beauty and one must carefully listen to recognize its presence. The
symphonies performed were constructed by well renowned composers such as Arnold Schoenberg,
Olivier Messiaen, Igor Stravinsky and other compelling composers as well. Many of these composers
led overwhelming lives that clearly influenced their works. The symphonies drew the listeners closer
and closer to their rich and bold sounds. For instance, Schoenberg s famous emancipation of
dissonance was reflective in his Five Pieces for Orchestra . He derived the intriguing concept of
dissonance and presented this as it was his first atonal piece. The colors and sharp sounds were very
dynamic. The first four pieces I would say are programmatic and Stravinsky s pieces are absolute; he
made a clear reference to classical music. However it is important to note how Schoenberg intended
his piece to be non programmatic in order to focus more on the evolved music he had created. On the
other hand his titles

Children s journeys throughout education should be personal, and this is what the Montessori
approach achieves. From visiting a Montessori setting, the practitioners accomplished this as they
allowed the children to play individually Montessori thought working alone encouraged children to
become independent learners (M. Beaver, J. Brewster et all, CACHE Level 3 Childcare and
Education). It is also important that they do plan times for the children to socialize and work together
as this will build their Social and Emotional development. By providing individual learning journey
books for each child, means that the child s key worker can add notes and pictures to show to their
family what they do at nursery, however these are also available to take home and adapt them at home.
E3: Maria Montessori was born in Italy in 1870. She wanted to become a doctor, so she enrolled at the
University of Rome; however at this time she began to develop an interest in children who were
deprived; which at the time were referred to as idiot children , this encouraged Maria into studying
about those who were mentally defective. Her interest then changed, and was focused into education.
When she was fixed on to this idea, she began to study the theories which were devised over the last
200 years. By 1900 Montessori was known for a

NASA Budget Analysis
Using the NASA budget provided and my job of using the best materials and keeping the expenses
low for a design for a lander, I finally came down to a design. My design choices include a parachute
of 100 m. This includes having a surface area large enough that it can produce air friction. A safety
cage of a cubic capsule in where the egg has four surfaced sides in which it can land on. Also ,
includes a crumple zone that has rigid lander legs .This will give a medium rigidity where it can
withstand the impact of the force acting against it but doesn t stay rigid in where the legs cannot be
used as a crumple zone . This design can offer a safe landing on Mars and support the things inside it
in a safe and compact condition. Using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The safety has to have a capsule that keeps everything secure inside it safe in the time of impact. This
is the reason on to why I chose a cubic capsule because, I know that in the area inside there would be
an even amount of space and have an equal amount of space , not only that but as the space lander
lands it will be easier for the object to land with the parachute with a shape that has even surfaces on
four sides in case if it lands on either sides of the surfaces .The object that I chose to use for the safety
capsule is the aluminum alloy . I chose this material because not only was the weight low but also the
cost was at a medium . Although, we know that the tensile strength is only at 300 we know that if
more air friction is added to the space lander it is going to have less force applied to it as the falling is
happening meaning the strength of the tensile is okay to not be too rigid . The price of the material is
also at a very cheap price we know that NASA is to cut cost , mass , and risk This is matching
characteristics and with the low cost of the other products included in the space lander having a
medium cost is not going to have a large effect on the total

Social Class And Learning
Furthermore, social class influences an individual s learning. Social class refers to a hierarchical
stratification or layering of people in social groups, communities, and societies, representing prestige,
power, influence, and income (Cushner, McClelland, and Safford 442). It plays a critical role in
education and closely related to educational attainment. Children living in a family with upper middle
class can access to better education, and thus, are more likely to achieve higher educational status.
However, those from disadvantaged areas are less likely to have better education achievement because
of poverty. Because Shirley was born in a wealthy family, she could always receive the elite education
from elementary school to university.

Keurig Research Paper
How to Make Coffee Using a Keurig
The alluring aroma of freshly brewed java is both tantalizing and calming to the senses, so much so,
that most individuals are unable to fathom a morning or a day without a cup of fragrant, hot coffee in
hand. Coffee is one of life s little indulgences that have become a necessity for some, who find it
increasing difficult to live without, as a result, Keurig created an innovative, and unique form of
preparation. The Keurig machine makes it possible for a single serving of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or
water without the need to clean the machine in between its use. It eliminates the stale tasting waste
that results from the remnants of old coffee, which no coffee drinker desires, and it eradicates the need
to clean the pot or brew basket, all this in less than a minute!
Although the Keurig is considerably easier to operate than a traditional coffee maker, adherence to a
few specific guidelines, are crucial to yield a cup of coffee. First, plug the unit into a power source,
this is essential, and the water reservoir be filled to the maximum water level line; filtered or purified

Obamacare Executive Summary
Obamacare serves the purpose of expanding health insurance access, protect patients against arbitrary
actions by insurance companies, and reduce overall costs. As discussed in the above section, evidence
shows that there are many issues in the current healthcare system that warrants a change. These
changes will more or less take years to establish in full swing but it is important to start supporting this
change now. These changes will pursue an overall improvement of the current healthcare system to the
possibility of a sustainable system while ensuring a healthier nation. Increasing access to health care
ensures everyone to seek medical care without the fear of getting a large medical bill. Currently, there
are millions of Americans without health insurance. The ACA implements changes in the system that
decreases the burden on low income families by expanding the Medicaid program. This is done by
expanding coverage to a variety of population, even individuals with chronic and pre existing
conditions, which covers the supply based care. Lowering health care costs while enhancing quality of
care. Individuals will have more choices in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Child Rearing Young Children
Goldenberg suggested that the phase you are currently engaged in is the family with young children. It
is exciting to welcome little ones into the family system. It is also a period of major adjustment for a
family to accept young children. The family unit must expand their way of thinking and in your case
having two young children (Goldenberg Goldenberg, 2013). It is also a period of the family unit being
involved in rearing young children. In your case you have to adjust to your spouse being deployed. It
adds an extra layer of stress especially when you do not have great resource of family around to help
raise two young children while your spouse is deployed for a period of 6 to 11 months. During my

If you are buying your first home, or if you are buying your first home with a septic tank, you need to
take the septic tank inspection seriously. The septic tank inspection will reveal if you are good to go
for a number of years, or if you need to set aside thousands of dollars to replace the septic tank within
the first few years of purchasing the home. Here are the steps you need to take in order to ensure you
have accurate information before you purchase a home with a septic tank:
Step #1: Call A Licensed Septic Installation Company
The first thing you want to do is call up a licensed septic installation company to perform the septic
tank inspection for you. You want to use an septic tank expert to inspect it; not a general home
inspector. An expert can tell you what condition the septic tank is in and how much work you are
going to have to put into it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ask they to provide you with a quote for how much it would cost for you to do any necessary repairs

Even if the septic tank turns out to be in good condition, make sure that you get these numbers. They
will allow you to see and judge if you can afford the upcoming maintenance cost and plan for future
replacement costs.
Make sure that you get these quotes in writing with the date that the prices will be honored until. That
way, if you choose to fix or upgrade the system, you ll know the information you got during your
inspection was accurate, and actionable.

The Role Of Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
This paper will focus on the role of the advanced practice registered nurse (APRN), specifically
highlighting the family practitioner and the integral role played with the underserved. The focus will
be on a San Diego nurse s journey to become an APRN and her work in giving back to underserved
communities throughout the county. Mary Baker, MSN, RN, CNS, FNP BC, APHN BC continues to
contribute to nursing as part of her dedication to serving the underserved.
Historical Perspective
According to the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (N.D.), the progression of the advanced
practice nurse (APN) began nearly 50 years ago. From the advent of the first APN program to the over
350 accredited programs and over 222,000 certified nurse practitioners in the United States, the role of
the APN has significantly increased and expanded a profession to better improve healthcare for
Americans (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, N.D., American Academy of Nurse
Practitioners, 2016). Of these, more than half are in the field of family practitioners (American
Academy of Nurse Practitioners, 2016).
One such family pracitioner began her journey nearly a decade ago. Following a career in information
technology, Mary Baker completed her nursing degree at California State University San Marcos in
2009 and continued to pursue her advanced practice nursing degree as a family nurse practitioner. In
2014, she obtained her national certification as a family nurse practitioner as well as

Family Dynamics
While taking Introductory Sociology with Professor Cole Smith this semester, the course revealed
concepts covering various topics about society and the world around us. During the course, the ideas
and concepts covered were impressionable because of the nature of the content. Each chapter
discussed controversial topics challenging the way the students previously perceived information.
However, there are chapters in this course that have been the most influential. For example, chapter
one covered the theoretical perspectives, chapter four examined the concept of the social construction
of reality, and chapter twelve exploring the family dynamic. Although each chapter provided insight
on various subjects, the information allows for the reader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The textbook defines and explains the sociological perspective on family. Society has changed the
family dynamic, and has created a different definition than in previous years. I was surprised to learn
that not everyone in society believes they should support their children, and the parents are not
responsible for providing support. This concept is a hard one to understand because I was raised to
accept help from the man of the family, and to let the man provide for all the needs for the family. The
chapter also discusses mate selection, authority, and inheritance. I was also surprised to learn that
there is not a historical record of women dominating men in society. Roles in the family are an
important part in society because they provide basic guidelines for how members in the family
function and their roles. One of the most interesting topics was the section on courtship. Some people
in society do not believe that love will exist until after a marriage occurs. This concept is shocking,
and is confusing because in western society, people idolize love and the ideas behind being in love
with someone, and sharing a life with someone. Many people believe that love happens at the right
place and right time, but people in other parts of the world do not see marriage in the same light.
Another interesting fact stated in the textbook is interracial marriages. Some changes in society are
harmful, but others do not affect society as much as people think. Also, the dynamic of family is
changing according to how many children are born to each family. People now are wanting smaller
families, and before things changed it was important for men to breed bigger families to carry on the
last name. I think this chapter has opened my eyes to how much society has changed from the time I
was in high school until now. Living in a small town makes me feel oblivious to the

both came up with a new theory about dreaming, which was in essence, was that dreams are nothing
more than your attempt to interpret random electrical impulses produced automatically in your brain
during REM sleep. (Hock 2013). Basically what they were saying is that while we sleep, a part of our
brain produces electrical charges in the brain stem. While we sleep most other parts of the brain are

Shawshank Redemption Film Analysis
(Part I) Nicole Rafter identifies several stock characteristics that dominate the traditional film. First,
there is the convict buddy. In The Shawshank Redemption our innocent protagonist Andy is quickly
befriended by prison veteran, Red. Red s voice can be heard narrating his thoughts about his friend
Andy. As the story goes on, their relationship is further explored to the point that the last shot is them
reuniting. Common to traditional prison films is a paternalistic warden, but this is not the case in
Shawshank Prison. The warden here is very greedy and immoral which is a general a characteristic of
more recent prison films. Another stock character is a brutish guard which we see exemplified in
Captain Byron Hadley. He beats a man to death in the first act of the film. Finally, we have Andy, who
is the young hero, or at least he is fairly young when he goes into prison. He is innocent and thus
exemplifies Rafter s stock character of having an unjustly accused protagonist. Rafter also notes stock
plots that often play out. In The Shawshank Redemption, the innocent hero Andy escapes while
simultaneously bringing condemnation on the unjust members of the prison. This plot corresponds to
one of Rafter s traditional prison plots (2006, 166). Lastly, there is the idea of stock themes in
traditional prison films. Again, The Shawshank Redemption falls in line with Rafter s theme of the
unjustly jailed hero fighting against the unfair system. Rafter writes, To restore justice,

Self Concept Clarity Paper
Article #2: Self concept clarity Across Adolescence
Introducing the idea of open communication, this article arrives at the conclusion that geater self
concept clarity is associated with numerous indicators of adjustment, and possibly promoted by
adolescents open communication with parents (Morloes, Dijk Dijk). Further stating issues with self
concept clarity growth may result in amplified internalizing difficulties in adolescence, such as
depressive and anxiety symptoms (Morloes, Dijk Dijk).
Three Aspects of the Article That Were Meaningful and Relevant
It is through this article that I was presented the structural components of one s self concept are
assumed to have unique anticipated for emotional adjustment that is separate from the sway of content

be partially founded through parent child interactions, particularly when parents are actively listening
and supportive of their child s perspectives (Morloes, Dijk Dijk). Finally, is becoming aware of what
of the possibility that adolescence open communication or lack thereof linked to aspects of emotional
well being including symptoms of depression (Morloes, Dijk Dijk). Thus, reinforcing the argument
that greater open communication with parents can protect against symptoms of depression among

Perverse Feminine Masochism
Perverse feminine masochism From the case study of Mary, we propose the notion of perverse
feminine masochism as antinomic with erotic feminine masochism, the latter being based on the
change of desired object. The desire to be penetrated by the father, then by the lover, supports the
investment of penetration as a promised opening. Thus, whereas erotic feminine masochism relies on
the primary erogenous masochism, constitutes a basis of the first narcissistic foundations and
counterinvests moral masochism, for some people, the encounter with the sexual might be
contrastingly traumatizing and reactive pregenital anxieties of intrusion that may be compared with a

Gender Is A Social Aspect Essay
Gender has always been around, but it has caused confusion for some about the true meaning, through
this, two perspectives have come to light. Those who believe that gender is something that you are
born with, your biological self that differentiates you from your opposite (male/female). Then there
are those who believe that gender is a social constructed aspect of ones life. What your parents and
society label you the minute you are born. Examples being a girl wears pink, a boy wears blue. These
colours are a significant symbol of assigning one a gender, for if they do not wear those colours (in
some instances) then people will not be able to distinguish them this generally shown in a newborn
babies case. Through a socially constructed perspective, certain ways of living are formed for each
persons gender, in olden day New Zealand, women, at a certain point in time were assumed to stay at
home, with the children and be good wives. Whereas men were to be in the labour force, whether it be
working class, or in the higher areas of parliament. This was all up until the mid 1800s were the first
wave feminism came into act.
There are many aspects within a persons educational life, that can affect them greatly, gender being
one of them. Depending on the job, a persons gender can hold major implications to their progression
in that area. In modern day, gender still holds a major impact on a persons life, especially if they are
females. All over the world there is still clear

One by one we follow running deeper in to the seemingly endless darkness.
We run until the footsteps of the unknown thing fades to a soft patter and I realise how out of breath I

Analysis Of Identity Card In Grapes Of Wrath
I am an Arab...I have a title without a name. These lines from the first stanzas of Identity Card written
by Mahmoud Darwish outline the struggle many face when trying to immigrate into another country.
Whether they be carpenters or engineers, all have to suffer the stereotype of their homeland, and it
becomes their identity. Written in 1964, Identity Card reflects the injustice Darwish feels to being
reduced to no more than his country name. The issue of basing an identity on one s homeland is still
prevalent today, arguably even more so. As our world connects through the power of social media,
location is everything, whether it be labeling the woman from Toledo as a hero, or the man from Paris
as a terrorist.
The undeniable connection between psyche and place of residence had been addressed in literary
works throughout time, but nowhere is it more prevalent than in Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck.
As readers follow the Joad family on their journey, they see how the identity of each character and the
overall family dynamic changes based on where the Joads live. Examples of this can be seen from the
very beginning in Oklahoma, through the journey to California, and in the many migrant camps once
they reach the Golden State . As illustrated through the Joad s story, and the story of roughly 200,000
other migrant families through the inter chapters, readers can clearly see that where one lives is the
central factor to their identity.

The Struggle In Sonny s Blue By James Baldwin
Sonny s Blue by James Baldwin is a story about two brothers who grew up in poverty. One brother
went on to become a teacher, while the other pursued his dreams to become a musician and finds
himself in prison due to drug use. The story begins with the narrator finding out about Sonny s arrest.
It s easy to see his shock and almost disbelief. It takes the narrator a while to write to Sonny, but
eventually he does, and they regain communication with one another after over a year of silence.
Sonny is released from prison and goes to stay with the narrator and his family. He is staying clean,
and he continues to pursue his dreams of making music. The narrator also finally sees that Sonny is
very talented and that music really was his calling. The two brothers are very different, though they
grew up in the same setting. They have different ways of escaping Harlem, they have different
aspirations and goals, and they have different personalities and views on life.
From the beginning of the story, it is clear that the brothers have different views of Harlem and how to
become successful. The oldest of the two, the narrator, who remains unnamed, became successful after
returning from war and became a teacher. He wed and had a family. Sonny, the younger brother, was
successful in a sense because he got out of Harlem, but at the same sense, he fell into drug use and

  • 2. Description Of Jack Kerouac s The Road Description of Jack Kerouac Jean Louis Lebris de Kerouac was born on March 12, 1922 in Lowell, Massachusetts to immigrant French Canadian parents Leo and Gabrielle Kerouac. Known to his family as Ti Jean , or Little Jack, he was the youngest of three children. Jack had an older sister, Caroline, and an older brother Gerard, who died of rheumatic fever when Jack was four years old. As an adult, Jack was part of what he called the Beat Generation, which referred to an underground revolution that was quietly happening outside of mainstream politics (Johnson, 2012). Famous for authoring the best selling book On the Road, which was published in 1957, Jack based his writings on his personal experience of an alcohol and sex fuelled cross country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jack Kerouac routinely went on what he described as binges that lasted for multiple days (Brinkley, 2004). After a particular binge, occurring after a night of drinking beer, whiskey, and vermouth, he woke up badly beaten and was unable to remember what had happened (Johnson, 2012). According to his own explanation, Jack used alcohol to provide him with the excitement he needed to combat the boredom that he experienced (Johnson, 2012). The effect of Jack s alcohol dependence directly resulted in his death, which occurred due to cirrhosis of the liver caused by alcoholism (Charters, 1973). Hypersexual behaviour is described as an intense sexual drive that leads to poorly controlled, excessive, and impulsive sexual activity despite negative consequences, such as the risk of emotional and physical harm (Kor, A., Fogel, Y., Reid, R. C., Potenza, M. N., 2013). Although the DSM IV does not explicitly include criteria for hypersexual behaviour or sexual addiction, the diagnosis of a Sexual Disorder Not Otherwise Specified can be used to account for patterns of hypersexual behaviour (Kor, A., Fogel, Y., Reid, R. C., Potenza, M. N., 2013). Jack s first sexual experience involved a New York City prostitute, which formed the foundation for a lifetime of impulsive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Persuasive Speech To Join The Military Specific purpose: to persuade my audience (females) to join the military Thesis Statement: A few females are joining the military, and those taking leadership roles is even small, caused by existence of limited information about the Army and less combat roles, and this can be addressed by lifting ban on women on combat and creating more combat support jobs. 1. Introduction a). Major General Marcia Anderson is a celebrated woman for having beat the odds to claim a top leadership position in the Army. She joined the army since she needed a science credit while studying at Creighton University. b) Joining the Army was not her dream. Anderson took on the military as a career because she wanted to change the misconceptions about women taking up leadership roles (McGregor). c) But Andersons story is not representative of the current trends among females in the military. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... a). I will discuss some of the reasons why less women join the Army. Currently, females make up 15.7 percent of the U.S. Army. Approximately 16% of the officer corps and 7% of top generals and admirals in the Armed forces are women (McGregor). The statistics show women still make up a small percentage out of the total number of military officers in the Army. Few females thus join the Army. Many females decide to enter the Army mostly for personal reasons ranging from to avoid economic difficulties. Some join because the Army is the only viable job and that they have looked for jobs but have not found any. Others join out of a sense of honor, duty and even patriotism. They want to serve their country in the various capacities. While another group enters, the Army to receive education benefits, to gain job skills and to see more of the world among others (Jessica). Therefore, each person always has their reason. But the important thing is once they join the Army, they work towards protecting the country and its citizens. No one cares what their reasons were as long as they prove their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pew Research Center Argument Analysis The Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan American think tank that provides information on public opinion, demographic trends, and social issues shaping the United States and the world. I used charts and data from the Pew Research Center to demonstrate that republicans don t trust liberal media groups; likewise liberals don t trust conservative media groups. All major media groups were represented and all data was randomly polled. When nobody trusts one another, common ground is nearly impossible; this is a representation of a polarized society. • 5. Attributes Of God Within Classical Christian Theism Chapter 2 Attributes of God in Classical Christian Theism We continue our study of the history of God by looking at His attributes from a number of different viewpoints. We will first examine the view of Classical Theism, then the view of Freewill Theism, and finally that of Open Theism. We begin by defining Classical Theism, also called traditional theism or Augustinian theism. In a section entitled, The Classical Christian Concept of God, Francis Beckwith gives a short definition of Classical Theism in See the God s Fall, 59 60: Classical theism is the theism that has been believed in by most theists in Western civilization. In particular, classical theism holds that God is (1) personal and disembodied, (2) the creator and sustainer of all things, (3) omnipotent, (4) omniscient, (5) omniscient, (6) immutable and eternal, (7) perfectly good and the source of all moral values, (8) necessary, (9) the only God, (10) infinite, (11) sovereign over all things, and (12) knowable but incomprehensible. . In this paper, we will discuss only 5 of these attributes: omnipotence, immutability, impassibility, timelessness and omniscience. Gregory Boyd summarizes these 5 attributes in his book Is God to Blame? (pp 42 43) First, many theologians have assumed that if God is all powerful, omnipotent, which the Bible clearly teaches (e.g., 1Chron 29:11; Jer 32:17; Mt 19:26; Rev 1:8; 19:6), that nothing in his creation can ever thwart his will. • 6. Essay On Landlords Saving Drains From Tenant Tyranny: 10 Ways Landlords Can Keep Their Plumbing Clog Free Owning rental property can be rewarding and lucrative, but it can sometimes be one headache after another, especially if tenants misuse or abuse your apartments. Clogged pipes are one instance where being a landlord can literally drain your time and money to no end. Here are 10 helpful ways to avoid that mess, once and for all. 1. Specify Who Is Responsible For Clogs In The Lease You should include a clause in the lease your tenants sign, indicating if they or you will be responsible for drain cleaning and clogs. Failure to include this information will likely leave you on the hook every time a slight issue arises with drains. Be sure to read this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This preventative action, too, will work in your favor if the next tenant tries to complain that persistent clogging is a result of your inaction. 4. Stock Up On Drain Screens For Your Tubs Drain screens are cheap and easy to store and while you don t want to make a habit of buying things your tenants should be buying themselves, having extra screens on hand may be worthwhile if doing so prevents those annoying and often time consuming clogs. You could limit the number of free screens you provide each tenant, but since you can t force them to buy their own, giving them away will likely save you money and time in the long run. 5. Equip Washing Machine Hoses With Lint Catchers If you own washing machines on the property, be sure and equip them all with lint catchers. This will eliminate a lot of added debris from entering the system and potentially causing more clogs. 6. Never Rinse Your Carpenter Tools In The Sinks Whether you or hired professionals take care of re grouting, caulking and other carpentry jobs at your rental units, make sure no one ever uses the sinks to rinse tools off. Even when it s only done occasionally, all that goop going down the drains can add up to costly clogs later. 7. INTRODUCTION Extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) through nanohole arrays has been concentrated broadly in several aspects, including the hypothesis and confirmation of its origin parameters influencing its intensity, the optical properties, for example like its transmission spectra and divergence. Several parameters including the refractive index of the medium on the metal film surface, the wavelength and condition of polarization of the incident light, the holes shape and periodicity of the structures change the spectral behavior in term of intensity and position of the transmitted peaks. The structures that support EOT have discovered their applications in numerous fields including visible spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, sub wavelength optics, nonlinear optics, and photolithography. As the EOT is influenced by parameters like the shape and periodicity of the holes, devices made in light of this marvel will be more sensitive and supports larger selectivity. Regardless of these advantages a large portion of existing use of EOT has been acknowledged on the structures with limited region of coverage. During the course, the ideas and concepts covered were impressionable because of the nature of the content. Each chapter discussed controversial topics challenging the way the students previously perceived information. However, there are chapters in this course that have been the most influential. For example, chapter one covered the theoretical perspectives, chapter four examined the concept of the social construction of reality, and chapter twelve exploring the family dynamic. Although each chapter provided insight on various subjects, the information allows for the reader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The textbook defines and explains the sociological perspective on family. Society has changed the family dynamic, and has created a different definition than in previous years. I was surprised to learn that not everyone in society believes they should support their children, and the parents are not responsible for providing support. This concept is a hard one to understand because I was raised to accept help from the man of the family, and to let the man provide for all the needs for the family. The chapter also discusses mate selection, authority, and inheritance. I was also surprised to learn that there is not a historical record of women dominating men in society. Roles in the family are an important part in society because they provide basic guidelines for how members in the family function and their roles. One of the most interesting topics was the section on courtship. Some people in society do not believe that love will exist until after a marriage occurs. This concept is shocking, and is confusing because in western society, people idolize love and the ideas behind being in love with someone, and sharing a life with someone. Many people believe that love happens at the right place and right time, but people in other parts of the world do not see marriage in the same light. Another interesting fact stated in the textbook is interracial marriages. Some changes in society are harmful, but others do not affect society as much as people think. Also, the dynamic of family is changing according to how many children are born to each family. People now are wanting smaller families, and before things changed it was important for men to breed bigger families to carry on the last name. I think this chapter has opened my eyes to how much society has changed from the time I was in high school until now. Living in a small town makes me feel oblivious to the ... • 33. Shawshank Redemption Film Analysis (Part I) Nicole Rafter identifies several stock characteristics that dominate the traditional film. First, there is the convict buddy. In The Shawshank Redemption our innocent protagonist Andy is quickly befriended by prison veteran, Red. Red s voice can be heard narrating his thoughts about his friend Andy. As the story goes on, their relationship is further explored to the point that the last shot is them reuniting. Common to traditional prison films is a paternalistic warden, but this is not the case in Shawshank Prison. The warden here is very greedy and immoral which is a general a characteristic of more recent prison films. Another stock character is a brutish guard which we see exemplified in Captain Byron Hadley. He beats a man to death in the first act of the film. Finally, we have Andy, who is the young hero, or at least he is fairly young when he goes into prison. He is innocent and thus exemplifies Rafter s stock character of having an unjustly accused protagonist. Rafter also notes stock plots that often play out. In The Shawshank Redemption, the innocent hero Andy escapes while simultaneously bringing condemnation on the unjust members of the prison. This plot corresponds to one of Rafter s traditional prison plots (2006, 166). Lastly, there is the idea of stock themes in traditional prison films. Again, The Shawshank Redemption falls in line with Rafter s theme of the unjustly jailed hero fighting against the unfair system. Rafter writes, To restore justice, ... Perverse Feminine Masochism Perverse feminine masochism From the case study of Mary, we propose the notion of perverse feminine masochism as antinomic with erotic feminine masochism, the latter being based on the change of desired object. The desire to be penetrated by the father, then by the lover, supports the investment of penetration as a promised opening. Thus, whereas erotic feminine masochism relies on the primary erogenous masochism, constitutes a basis of the first narcissistic foundations and counterinvests moral masochism, for some people, the encounter with the sexual might be contrastingly traumatizing and reactive pregenital anxieties of intrusion that may be compared with a revivification of incest (Schaeffer, 2002). • 40. Gender Is A Social Aspect Essay Gender has always been around, but it has caused confusion for some about the true meaning, through this, two perspectives have come to light. Those who believe that gender is something that you are born with, your biological self that differentiates you from your opposite (male/female). Then there are those who believe that gender is a social constructed aspect of ones life. What your parents and society label you the minute you are born. Examples being a girl wears pink, a boy wears blue. These colours are a significant symbol of assigning one a gender, for if they do not wear those colours (in some instances) then people will not be able to distinguish them this generally shown in a newborn babies case. Through a socially constructed perspective, certain ways of living are formed for each persons gender, in olden day New Zealand, women, at a certain point in time were assumed to stay at home, with the children and be good wives. Whereas men were to be in the labour force, whether it be working class, or in the higher areas of parliament. This was all up until the mid 1800s were the first wave feminism came into act. There are many aspects within a persons educational life, that can affect them greatly, gender being one of them. Depending on the job, a persons gender can hold major implications to their progression in that area. In modern day, gender still holds a major impact on a persons life, especially if they are females. All over the world there is still clear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Analysis Of Identity Card In Grapes Of Wrath I am an Arab...I have a title without a name. These lines from the first stanzas of Identity Card written by Mahmoud Darwish outline the struggle many face when trying to immigrate into another country. Whether they be carpenters or engineers, all have to suffer the stereotype of their homeland, and it becomes their identity. Written in 1964, Identity Card reflects the injustice Darwish feels to being reduced to no more than his country name. The issue of basing an identity on one s homeland is still prevalent today, arguably even more so. As our world connects through the power of social media, location is everything, whether it be labeling the woman from Toledo as a hero, or the man from Paris as a terrorist. The undeniable connection between psyche and place of residence had been addressed in literary works throughout time, but nowhere is it more prevalent than in Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. As readers follow the Joad family on their journey, they see how the identity of each character and the overall family dynamic changes based on where the Joads live. Examples of this can be seen from the very beginning in Oklahoma, through the journey to California, and in the many migrant camps once they reach the Golden State . As illustrated through the Joad s story, and the story of roughly 200,000 other migrant families through the inter chapters, readers can clearly see that where one lives is the central factor to their identity.
