DETECTION IN CONSTRUCTION SITES INTRODUCTION AND JUSTIFICATION
Constructions sites are considered to be one of the most dangerous land based work sectors on earth,
with accidents and injuries considered to be an inevitable. Accidents in the construction industry hurt
the moral of workers and contractors as well as being costly for all parties involved. Various safety
measures have been implemented to reduce the occurrence of injuries as well as minimising risk of
injury when the accidents happen, in an effort to transition the construction industry to a zero injury
work environment. In Australia the concerted effort has already begun with mandatory safety training

It is plausible that higher rates of PPE compliance would result in lower rates of serious injury and
fatalities in the construction industry to move towards a zero injury workplace. Different types of PPE
like hard hats, safety vest, steel caped boots and hearing protection have been made mandatory in
work sites around Australia. Even though these restrictions have been applied to the field, many
incidents have occurred where workers have had insufficient PPE resulting in potentially avoidable
fatalities. PPE enforcement is a significant part of a supervisor s role at construction sites, however
due to other responsibilities and tight work schedules supervisors are not capable of monitoring each
and every worker on the site at all times. To overcome this deficiency, various automated solutions
have been researched for the detection of safety equipment. To support this role, a video based
monitoring tool is being developed that will alert the foreman to any non compliance taking place in
the site. The main focus of this project is the development of a real time video monitoring system
using the latest computer vision techniques. The video with be captured by a camera set up in

Financial Statement Analysis Of Jet Blue Airways...
Financial Statement Analysis Jet Blue Airways Corporation (JBLU)
Summary of the Company
Jet Blue Airways Corporation, a passenger transportation company that provides 93 destinations in 28
states in the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the U.S.
Virgin Islands, and 19 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America (Yahoo Finance). Jet Blue
Airways Corporation is based in Long Island City, New York.
Financial Ratio Analysis
After computing the current ratio of Jet Blue Airways, there was a decrease from 2014 of 0.62 to 0.60
in 2015. This was a result of an increase of current liabilities that superseded the increase of current
assets. The decrease in ratio between the respective years denote the inability for the company to pay
off its most recent debts within a short period of time. Jet Blue current ratio falls extremely below the
average among the airline industry of 0.81 (CSI Market). In 2015, Jet Blue Airways acid test ratio
showed a slight increase to 0.45 from its former 0.44 rate in 2014. Consequently, the company s
increased ability to pay off its debt with its most recent assets. Combined the acid test ratio and the
current ratio, shows that the even though Jet Blue had a decrease in the current ratio, is had a much
higher immediate liquidity status due to the fact of a 52% increase in short term investments. In
addition, Jet Blue Airways experienced a 9% increase from 43.7 to 47.2 in its ability to convert its
receivables

Terrorism Impact On Terrorism
1. Introduction
Twelve years have passed since four coordinated terrorist bomb attacks occurred in central London on
the 7th of July in 2005, conducted by four suicide bombers. Three of the attacks took place in London
Underground trains, on the Circle line near Aldgate, on the Piccadilly line near Russel Square and at
Edgware Road. The fourth bomb attack happened on a double decker bus in Tavistock Square. The
attacks happened during busy rush hour and the was one hour between the three London Underground
train attacks and the attack on the bus. Fifty two people were killed and more than 700 were injured in
the attacks, the bomb attack being the worst terror attack in the UK since the 1988 Lockerbie
bombing. This terrorist attack affected people severely physically, but most of all, emotionally. The
results of a telephone survey done within the general population of London after the July 7th
bombings, show that 55% of 1,010 participants felt their life was in danger from terrorism and 86% of
the participants thought that another attack on London was likely in the near future (Greenberg, Rubin,
Wessely, 2005).
In the past decade, there have been an increased amount of terrorist attacks in Europe, such as terrorist
attacks in Paris in November 2016 and in Manchester Arena in May 2017. Whenever a terrorist attack
happens in Europe, it is widely reported on various media outlets and the extensive media network of
present day allows news to spread quickly. Consequently, even

How Did The Bee Gees Influence Australia
In 1958 an influential Australian pop group was formed, this band was known as the Bee Gees.
Australia has a number of artists who are very influential and have shaped the music world but
arguably none of them are as influential and well known as the Bee Gees. Through 1970 s, the Bee
Gees helped defined the disco era. The pop trio consists of Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb. All of
them were brothers who grew up in Queensland, Australia. Though noted as a pop/disco group they
also fall under the soul and rock genre as well. Due to their large, different use of genre, the Bee Gees
have influenced many artists, noted are Brit Daniel and Brian Wilson. The Bee Gees are arguably the
only pop group to write, produce and record as many top charting hits as they did. They had placed 5
songs on the top 10 s all at the same time. This can be credited to their soundtrack in Saturday night
live (1977) a movie with a soundtrack that influenced many like that of Michael Jackson s thriller. ...

When Cultures Collide Essay
Mergers and acquisitions has become an important part of the American commerce, which
communication plays an important role in reducing the negative impacts. While Schweiger agrees that
failure to communicate with employees during a merger will increase employee uncertainty and
anxiety, he highlights that previous researchers (Napier et al., 1989) did not measure uncertainty nor
any of the supposed dysfunctional outcomes said to follow uncertainty.
Communication is also suggested by others to be avoided, as it might alert competitors or cause
employees to leave an organization rather than endure painful changes (Buono Bowditch, 1989). It can
also threaten management s ability to respond flexibly to changes during a merger or acquisition ...

The preview of the experiment was deemed effective that the vice president of the human resource
immediately introduced it to the control plant at the end of the experiment. As opposed to Buono
Bowditch s worry that employees will be unable to cope with the change and thus resign, only two
employees resigned from both plants, out of the 126 employees employed in the experimental plant
and 146 employees in the control plant.
Schweiger concluded that communications can help employees cope with the effects of mergers and
acquisitions to reduce the negative impacts to the organizational effectives, as should it be left
unchecked, it could become costly to an organization and undermine the initial aspects and objectives
of the merger or takeover.

A Research of the Reliability and Validity of the PSYGAT on Different Linguistic Backgrounds
Abstract
The issue of cultural bias in intelligence tests sparks debates every time the latter is created or
administered, resulting to many researches into how the reliability and validity of an ability test may
differ when assessed on groups from different cultural linguistic backgrounds. The aim of this study is
to test the reliability and validity of the PSYGAT Verbal IQ Test on university students from English
speaking backgrounds (ESB) and non English speaking backgrounds (NESB) in relation to the

`` Brave New World Of Digital Intimacy `` And Mark Twain...
Humanity started as small tribes of people working together and benefiting each other, with each
member having a clear identity that complements the other small group members. The advancement of
civilization threatened this identity. Soon, hordes of people living together in cities, towns, and
countries drowned out individual voices and opinions, causing people to lose a sense of identity.
While it may be hard to maintain a sense of identity in a crowd, society offers many hidden benefits
that can counterbalance the struggles of identity. Two readings, Clive Thompson s Brave New World
of Digital Intimacy and Mark Twain s The Dairies of Adam and Eve show how society and sharing the
Good life can benefit the individual overall, and might even help an individual find their own identity.
In Mark Twain s The Diaries of Adam and Eve, Adam first struggled with the existence of his new life
partner Eve. He hated the fact that he never had alone time, and the fact that Eve was starting to name
all the animals in the garden. Matters worsened when they had kids. However, near the end of the
reading, Adam begun to realize that Eve enriched his life in a way that he never knew before. Adam,
in return, also enriched Eve s life. The two found happiness together where they normally would not
find it alone. The pair s relationship shows the core idea of forsaking solitude and peace for something
more, the companionship and joy of others.

How We Are Affected by People s Views of Nature
How people s views of nature have changed over time in the United States of America and how it has
affected us is a great question. Looking back through history makes it simple to answer this question.
People have very different opinions on to what their answer would be. Reading Out of the Woods
edited by Char Miller and Hal Rothman, Dust Bowl: The Southern Plains in the 1930s by Donald
Worstter, Nature s Metropolis: Chicago and the Great West by William Cronon, The Ecological Indian
by Shepard Krech III, and Something s Rising: Appalachians Fighting Mountaintop Removal by Silas
House makes it easy to comprehend and to answer how our views of nature have changed.
Looking all the way back to the early Indians, Shepard Krech III, the author of The Ecological Indian,
the Indians were not the one with nature individuals you thought they were. Most people that first
think of the Indians were one with nature because of movies and old folk tales. They were reckless
and took advantage of their environment. They used more resources than they clearly needed. The
Indians would waste their animals that they hunted. They caused many problems with the ecosystem
involving plants and animals triggered for the use of fire. They involved fire to clear the undergrowth
of the forest. Their reasoning to do this was because it made travel significantly easier, it made a better
area to hunt, and they used it as protection. Many individuals believed that the Indians were
committing a sin by

Hegel Sense And Certaintyity
Hegel s discussion and refutation of sense certainty is the beginning of his discussion of consciousness
in the Phenomenology of Spirit. From this discussion, he lays the groundwork from which he reaches
absolute knowledge. In this essay, I will focus on Hegel s discussion of sense certainty. Following a
brief summary of my interpretation of sense certainty, this essay will mainly focus on paragraph 91 in
which Hegel acknowledges the attributes and deficiencies of sense certainty. Since the paragraph itself
is too long to quote and analyze, I will choose a few key quotes from the paragraph to discuss in
detail. Further, since this is the beginning of sense certainty and the claims he makes regarding sense
certainty will later be refuted, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also the case that I am certain of this item not for the reason that the item of which I am certain
would exist in terms of a rich relation of diverse states in itself, or because it would be related in
multifarious ways to others. Both have nothing to do with the truth of sense certainty; in that certainty,
neither I nor the item mean a manifold of mediation ; I does not mean a manifold of diverse activities
of representing and thinking, nor does the item mean a manifold of diverse states ; rather, the item is,
and it is merely because it is (Pinkard 2010). Hegel further continues his criticism of the objects of
sense certainty in these sentences. Since the consciousness can t, according to sense certainty,
comprehend and use its mental capacity to conceptualize the object, its is limited to mere being as it
is. This being as it is stems from apprehension which allows the subject to apply universals to objects
of sense certainty. This application of universals blends one object with others since universals can be
applicable to other things as well. Therefore, a person is only aware of an empty universal according
to Hegel who concluded that this is one of the major faults of sense certainty. Sense certainty fails in
this regard because apprehension does not transcend the universal...which does not

During George Wallace s Stand in the Schoolhouse Door protest, Forrest stands curiously in the
background, more interested in his surroundings rather than the actual protest. During the Vietnam
War, Forrest never questions the morality or the agenda of the U.S. government, and receives the

summed up into one conversation between him and the Drill Sergeant: Gump! What s your sole
purpose in this Army? To do whatever you tell me, Drill Sergeant! (Gump 1995) Still, the most
dismaying portion of impassive responses glorified in this film can be contributed to Forrest s careless

and negative effects it has on society. The report goes into detail on how job availability, education,
immigration and market forces affect the distribution of income and wealth. The purpose of the report
is to evaluate the significance of these effects, discuss why this inequality is a critical issue and
suggest possible solutions to reduce the negative impacts on society. The report describes trends in

For example, in a hierarchical structure, there are a greater amount of lower level jobs compared to
high level executive roles. In this case, there are more employees with low income positions than
employees in high income positions. In May of 2016, Statistics Canada conducted a study that showed
that the majority of in demand jobs in Canada were considered low paying positions (Statistics
Canada, 2016). For example, Figure 1 shows that of the 353 000 job vacancies in Canada, 50 000 of
these were in either retail salespeople or food counter worker position (Statistics Canada, 2016). Since
there are more available jobs in positions that receive lower incomes, this inevitably results in more
people earning less which widens the income gap. Education The amount of education received is
highly correlated with income level. Generally, people who have more years of education earn more
money than those with less education. For example, in 2015, more than two thirds of the top one
percent of income earners, 54.6 percent of the top five percent of income earners and 50.3 percent of
the top ten percent of income earners held a university degree. However, only 20.9 percent of the total

with high income and education (Statistics Canada, 2017). Furthermore, currently within the top ten

REVITAHIP Study Essay
Introduction and aim
Hip fractures result in a number of health related problems and even mortality among older people.
Hypovitaminosis D is one of the prevalent issues related to hip fracture. The REVITAHIP study is a
trial with multisite and randomized control investigating the effect of an initial loading dose vitamin D
on recovery consequences after hip fracture surgery. The aim of the paper is to compare the
REVITAHIP study with other studies using vitamin D to improve the rehabilitation after hip fracture
surgery based on the assessed baseline characteristics of participants, with a focus on hypovitaminosis
D.
Methods
Demographic and clinical data of the involved participants were collected before the trial. The trial
randomly allocated the participants who were aged over 65, from public hospitals in Australia and had
a surgery demand within 7 days after hip fracture into two groups. The two groups were provided by a
loading dose of vitamin D3 or placebo, followed by receiving oral calcium vitamin D combination
tablets and regular recovery pathway. The hypothesis about the relations between baseline vitamin D
level and other variables was examined by Person chi square test, ANOVA and regression analysis.

Renowned French Composer, Claude Debussy
Claude Debussy was one of the renowned French composers of the late 1800 s. He used a
compositional device to dilute the sense of directed motion found in traditional progressions. Although
it took while for the listening public and critics to warm up to this bold and new experiment in
harmonic freedom, he was soon a distinguished music composer (Claude Debussy). Debussy s life,
style, and influences all play a role in this famous composers history. Born in France on August 22,
1862, Claude Debussy was the oldest of five children. He displayed an early fascination for the piano,
and began to take lessons at the age of seven. Later, he entered the Paris Conservatory, where his
students and instructors noticed his talent, but frequently discovered his efforts at musical innovation
eccentric (Achille Claude Debussy). In 1884, Debussy won a price for his cantata, The Prodigal Child,
which included three years of study in Rome. Back in Paris, he composed another cantata, La
Demoselle Elue in 1888. Furthermore, he proved his genius with his Quartet in G minor in 1893
(Fleming 58). Debussy is usually considered the principle figure in the transition from the late
romantic style to the twentieth century style. However, he was soon distinguished as a prominent
composer of the early twentieth century, and his music is classified as a musical counterpart to the
artistic movement known as impressionism (Claude Debussy). He founded the impressionistic style in
music, and his

Autism And Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Essay
In today s world, it is easy to label people based on what society defines as normal. Society dictates
how we view people on a daily basis and this forces people to view things from a singular perspective.
Unfortunately, this single point of view may lead to discrimination against people who are different.
For example, those with disabilities and other diagnoses are neglected, overlooked, or judged by those
who are influenced by that singular perspective. In specific, Autism which is referred to as Autistic
Spectrum Disorder, is something that the public has heard before but they do not fully understand or
are unaware about its true definition. According to the Centers for Disease Control s Autism and
Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM), approximately 1 in 68 children have been identified
with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (CDC, 2016). This increased prevalence is why it is important
to continue educating the public about those living with Autism as well as critical for social awareness
and for the overall health of the community.
Tipton and Blacher (2014) investigated how those in a college community observed the characteristics
and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Participants were undergraduate students, graduate
students, faculty and staff at a major university in the Southwestern United States and were invited to
participate in a survey via email. The email was sent to the entire college community, which contained

A Synopsis Of Sigmund Freud
A Synopsis of Sigmund Freud
The Theorist
Sigmund Freud was born, May 6, 1856, and died 23 September, 1939. He was beyond a doubt one of
the founding fathers of modern psychology. Sigmund Freud examined the human mind more in depth
than anyone who became before him. His contributions to psychology are immeasurable. He was one
of the most influential people throughout the twentieth century. His theories, and research have
influenced not only psychology, but many other areas of culture, including the way people raise their
children even today.
Freud influenced language and embedded it within the modern vocabulary of today. Words such as
anal (personality), libido, denial, repression, cathartic, Freudian slip, and neurotic are just a few of
terms he coined that are still widely used.
Freud held the belief that when explaining our own behavior, we rarely give an accurate account of
our motivation. It is not because we are intentionally lying. Although people are good deceivers of
others, they are even better at deceiving themselves. The rationalizations of our conduct are actually
disguising the real reasons. Freud s life work was spent predominately trying to find ways of
circumventing this camouflage that obscures the hidden structure and processes of personality.
Sigmund Freud really gained substantial recognition with his first book, co authored with Josef
Breuer, Studies in Hysteria. The book based on a new theory that physical symptoms often surface as

Nurse Retention
Do you agree with the identified problem?
Yes, I agree that the there is an issue in regards to orientation process and the relationship it has on
staff retention within our unit.
I believe that a lack of proper orientation can have a tremendous impact of nurse retention rates. With
improper orientation the entire unit suffers. It correlates with a decrease in the quality of care, patient
safety and satisfaction, as well as nurse confidence. Having all staff trained in an extensive and
consistent orientation program brings about better continuity and higher quality of care, as well as an
increase in positive patient outcomes. The lack of an extensive and consistent orientation program
leads to a deficit in critical thinking skills and clinical knowledge. When a nurse is not fully prepared
for her role within a unit, it directly translates into patient care practices. I believe it also leads to a
decrease in staff satisfaction for the new nurse as well as the seasoned nurses within the unit. This

Sandy Hearst Argumentative Essay
After the trial and listening to the statements of the prosecutors involved, it is now up to the jury to
decide what happens in this case. Dana Ivy is said to have been drunk, which resulted in a car accident
on the morning of December 17. However, the defensive side says she was not intoxicated and that
was not the cause of this accident occurring at the intersection of Justice and Eagle street. This
accident resulted in severe injuries to Terry Vickers, the other citizen involved in this accident. Terry
Vickers wants to charge Sandy Hearst, the host of a party that occurred on the night of December 16,
for the damages. The plaintiff argues that Sandy was pushing drinks on Dana Ivy making her unable to
operate a vehicle with control. Although Dana Ivy states to have not been drunk and that the accident

Sandy as well as other guests could not clearly identify Dana as being drunk, also considering that
Dana has an outgoing personality. Sandy Hearst mentions in her statement, Dana just talked and acted
like any other normal person would at this kind of function. Witness Lee Porter says there was over 30
people at the party, making it easier for Dana to blend in. However, if Dana was acting different from
all the other guests showing signs of intoxication that is unusual for herself to do, it would be a
reliable statement. Even though alcoholic drinks were served, Sandy provided drinks for non drinkers
as well and even offered them to all her guests including Dana Ivy. Sandy Hearst may be liable for
serving alcoholic beverages but, that does not mean she was forcing that to be the only option of
beverages. Lee Porter says, Sandy said there were sodas for non drinkers if there were any. If Sandy
had the intent to push drinks on her guests, she would not have provided the option of soda to her
guests as well as

Comcast Packet Forgery
Comcast Packet Forgery case in 2007 explains how network neutrality received public visibility. In
May 2007, Comcast installed a new software/tool on its networks which conveniently and selectively
interfered with some of Comcast customers TCP/IP connections. A Comcast subscriber Robb Topolski
ran a tool called a packet sniffer which was used to seed files on BitTorrent and discovered that
unexpected TCP RST packets were causing inbound connections to his computer to die. Based on his
observations, he speculated that Comcast may have been responsible for this interference. Computers
use TCP as a standard protocol to exchange information on the Internet. When a computer receives

In many cases, the surge of forged RST packets will cause software to fail in its attempts to do
something a user asks of it. For instance, a BitTorrent client elsewhere on the Internet may fail in
downloading a rare document that is available as a BitTorrent seed from a Comcast user. In the case of
a typical Gnutella node, RST forgery will destroy the node s ability to discover and establish proper
communications with other parts of the Gnutella network. Gnutella connections are generally started
in either direction: Comcast user connects outwards, or other Gnutella nodes connect inwards. In both
of these examples, Comcast s packet forgery prevents the transfer of data rather than delaying it.
Hence, the characterization of Comcast s packet forgery as delaying certain traffic is only true under
special conditions, and is definitely not true in general. According to the white paper two conditions

Comparison of the Book Cyrano de Bergerac and the Movie,...
The book, Cyrano de Bergerac and the movie, Roxanne have many similarities and differences. This
includes the plot, characterization, setting, conflict, and irony. The plot in both the movie and the book
are similar. In both, Cyrano is trying to help Roxanne and Christian fall in love with each other, even
though he loves Roxanne. Cyrano writes letters to Roxanne telling her how much he loves her,
pretending to be Christian. He loves Roxanne, but feels that he is ugly and could never get her to love
him back because of his huge nose. The book and movie have the same main characters playing the
same roles. Cyrano is charming, poetic, and witty with a huge nose in both the book and the movie.

replaced in the movie by fire fighters working under Cyrano. The character Dixie is included in the
movie but not in the book; Dixie is Cyrano and Roxanne s best friend who owns a restaurant. The
setting is based in towns in both the movie and book. However, the book s setting was in a rural
France and the movie takes place in a modern suburban in America. The time period in the book was
1640 and the time in the movie was in present day. The conflict is similar at the beginning of both
stories. Cyrano loves Roxanne, but Roxanne loves Christian who does not know how to talk to her.
Therefore, Christian has Cyrano write letters to Roxanne pretending that Christian really wrote the
letters. Cyrano feels that his big nose makes him ugly, and no one could ever love him. The ending of
the story changes in the movie from the book. In the book, Christian is killed in the war. Cyrano never
tells Roxanne that he wrote the letters and ends up dying at her side fourteen years later. In the movie,
Roxanne leaves to go to a convention instead of Christian leaving for war. Christian ends up meeting a
new woman and ends up leaving with her, while

Freedom s Journal History
The state of New York s last slaves were freed in 1827. Soon after, African Americans all over starting
to come together to tell a story that will be remembered for generations to come. Freedom s Journal

1829 by a new newspaper called The Rights of All . The Rights of All was published by Samuel

were still enslaved in the year 1827, the newspaper Freedom s Journal was created for the hundreds of
thousands of slaves freed in the North. The founders of the newspaper chose Samuel Cornish and John

Otitis Media with Effusion Essay
Otitis Media with Effusion (OME) can be defined as, The presence of fluid in the middle ear without
signs or symptoms of acute ear infection (Pediatrics, 2004). It can be said that OME is an invisible
disorder, as there are no immediate signs or symptoms of an acute ear infection such as ear pain, fever,
or displeasure (Williamson, 2007). However, OME can have very significant consequences in the life
of a child. Early identification and monitoring of OME can combat against possible speech and
language delays, as well as protecting against further structural damage to the middle ear. From a
diagnostic standpoint, OME must be differentiated from Acute Otitis Media (AOM), as the
appropriate treatment will depend on if a child is suffering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

OME can also occur following an upper respiratory tract infection, as the anatomy of a child s middle
ear and eustachian tube are more horizontal, hindering the drainage of fluid and placing them at higher
risk for OME (Williamson, 2007). Other risk factors that make a child more prone to OME are
attending day care, bottle feeding in the supine position, secondhand smoke in the home, a lower
socioeconomic status, and having a large number of siblings (Williamson, 2007).
Given that Otitis Media with Effusion is mostly an invisible disorder without visible symptoms, it can
be difficult to identify in early stages. However, it is imperative that professionals and parents know
the signs and symptoms of such a prevalent ailment in children. The first sign that parents may notice
is that many children with OME fail to respond appropriately to voices or react to environmental
sounds as expected. Middle ear effusion can sometimes results in a conductive hearing loss of up to 50
dB (Boudewyns, et al. 2011), however hearing loss is not always suspected at first. Parents and/or
teachers may also notice that the child has poor attention problems and struggles academically.
Children with OME may also request that the television be turned up to very high levels, and also
have other audio equipment s volume much louder than necessary. Furthermore, children with OME
may suffer from balance problems and have

Envy Of The Gods By John Prevas
Envy of the Gods
Envy of the Gods is a book written by John Prevas about Alexander the Great s journey after he
conquered Persia. The author has a degree in history, psychology, forensics, and political science. He
has worked as a professor for the last fifteen years and has written two books, Hannibal Crosses the
Alps and Xenophon s March. Alexander the Great has always been a fascinating topic, but something
that had always bothered me is the fact that even though I know his name, I had no idea what he had
done, why he was famous, and why he is called Great , therefore I chose this book to know what
Alexander did, what made him famous, and why he is important.
The first chapter begins by describing Persepolis right before it was conquered by Alexander the Great
(330 BCE). The city was a relatively new, magnificent capital of the Persian Empire. The city s
original name was Parsa, but the Greeks changed it to Persepolis, which means Persian City. The city
was created by the two kings that the Greeks hated the most, Darius I and Xerxes (they were
responsible for the burning of Athens in the fifth century. When Alexander took over Persepolis he had
already taken over Babylon and Susa, two of the most important cities in ancient Persia. Persepolis
surrendered very quickly and the king of Persia, Darius III had run away. In the past, Alexander had
been very lenient with his prisoners of captured cities, that is why it was so odd that he treated
Persepolis with such awful

The Election Of President Elect
Every four years, in early November, American s head to the polls to vote for the next president of the
nation. After a lengthy two years of campaigning and debating, America s votes were cast and Donald
Trump became the nation s president elect. Interestingly, Trump did not win the popular vote, he had
two million less votes than his Democratic opposition, Hillary Clinton. Due to the use of the electoral
college, Trump managed to win more states and more battleground states than Clinton, and thus won
the electoral college vote. This election and its results have been a whirlwind of emotions for both
Trump and Clinton supporters. Regardless of the outcome, the greatest part about knowing who the
president elect is, is that this election has finally come to a halt.
What is noteworthy about his campaign is that Donald Trump ran his differently from the average
politician. Trump both acted differently and spoke of people in whichever manner he pleased.
Surprisingly, American s thrived off of his ability to stand tall and remain true to himself. The main
argument in this election between Clinton and Trump supporters was how they were more offended by
Clinton s actions than Trump s words. No matter what Trump said, his followers still thought of him in
a positive manner.

Genre Films Predictability and Formulaicity Essay
Genre Films Predictability and Formulaicity
This essay shall discuss whether Genre films are predictable and formulaic , looking at the Western
genre, and using the example films of, The Searchers and Unforgiven . Genre is a fundamental means
by which we communicate especially in storytelling. If looking at genre in terms of Thomas Shatz, he
puts forward the theory of similarity and overlap. He adopts a thematic and ideological approach,
which identifies only two genres; the genre of order and the genre of integration. In this case the
Western would be categorised into the genre of order. This essay shall also look at how genre films

Within each of the films, the revenge narratives are both set around the female, as in The searchers ,
Ethan and Martin aim to save the young girl Debbie, and in Unforgiven , Will, Ned and the Schofield
Kid aim to get revenge for the female prostitutes, this therefore shows how genre could be seen to
predictable and formulaic as these two western films show how they both follow similar structures and
narratives.
The theorists Propp and Todorov have focused on the similarity in narrative across different genres.
They suggest that genres that are different from one another in terms of visual, verbal and musical
signifiers operate according to the same narrative structures. Propp puts forward the story functions of
hero, villain and donor etc, and Todorov puts forward the equilibrium narrative theory. These two
theorists therefore show, how genre could be seen to be predictable and formulaic, as both of their
theories can be applies to The Searchers and Unforgiven , and they also believe they can be applied to
many other genres and films.
The characters within The Searchers fit into Propps story function as it is shown that, Ethan is the
main hero within the film, Martin is the main helper throughout the film and Debbie is seen as the
princess who needs to be saved. The same story function can

bare ground. One could see he had already eaten everything his tether would let him reach. In my
mind, he was already mine. I named him Smokey before we even got out of the truck.
Just a few feet away was another horse, pure white, well fed and positively stunning. We asked the
man about the difference in how the horses were being fed, he explained; he knew he would get more
money for the white one, so he took better care of him.He knew that I wanted Smokey, he saw it in my
eyes. They come as a pair, he said. Then we saw another one, who was worse off than Smokey. There
was no way I was going to let either one of those starving animals stay.

Are Foster Homes Harmful For Kids
Marcellia was born to a drug addicted mother who was unable to properly care for her and her
siblings. They were placed in foster care when she was 10 years old, and Marcellia remained in the
system until she aged out at 19. During those nine years, she was separated from her biological
brothers several times, neglected, and placed in homes with, as she states so simply, no love. Marcellia
s situation is not uncommon in the foster care systems though. Foster homes neglect and separate
kids/teens. Many foster kids end up never see their family again. This issue is a highly debated
subject. Some argue that foster homes are fine just the way they are, while many debate how foster
homes are harmful for kids/teens in the system. Despite what some may say, foster homes are harmful

Not only are so many children are being neglected, but the kids aren t being prepared to help children
develop skills and knowledge that will help them get the education they need. Skeptics may say that
foster homes are fine as they are or that they ve changed , but truth is that foster homes don t really
care and haven t taken any action to help the kids/teens. After all, most children are not being helped
or supported mentally/emotionally, and most of the kids have been known to struggle from PTSD. If
we are able to speak up for these children/teens, or help foster homes improve, we must provide
different ideas for solutions and let our voices be heard. For example, giving kids a permanent family
and love is a way to heal the kids/teens. So for children and teens like Marcellia everywhere, let them
know that their voice matters. They can finally be heard. Give children living in foster homes chance
by helping them; listening to them, the words and pain they keep inside. And maybe, just maybe, it

1452 in Vinci, near Florence Italy. His father, Piero Da Vinci, was a notary, and mother Caterina was a
peasant girl. Soon after his birth Piero Da Vinci took custody of Leonardo because his mother left and
married another man in a nearby town. At the age of 15 his father got him an apprenticeship with a
renowned artist Andrea Del Verrochio in Florence, who did such painting as Madonna and Child and
Saint Monica ; however he was most famous for his bronze status of the day. Leonardo quickly took to
his talent and showed it at a young age. His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His father gave Verrocchio a drawing that Leonardo had done and just with that alone, Leonardo was
accepted into the apprenticeship job. He learned skills from Verrocchio such as painting, sculpting,
and goldsmithing. He later evolved the skills he learned from Verrocchio and turned them into his own
creating new and better ways to paint and sculpt. Not a lot is said about his religion other than that he
was a Catholic which goes to show that religion did not take much of a place in his studies and life.
His painting showed how he thought religion should be viewed and tought in the more pure of forms.
Instead saw the ideals of the leaders of the church were corrupt and misleading thus Leonardo Da
Vinci never had an active role in the church or its activities. Did this person have a cause ? If so, what
was it and how successful was he in pursing it. What obstacles were overcome? Who were this person
s allies and enemy s in pursuit of this cause? During his time as an apprentice to just before he wrote a
letter to the Duke of Milan in 1842, Leonardo didn t have much of a reason or cause to be doing what
he was doing, other than the love and the passion for making art. Once France started to invade the
cities and states of Italy he wrote a letter to the Duke of Milan telling him what he could offer to his
military. Soon after the Duke received his letter, an audience was immediately set up between the two.
He spent the next 17 years of his life in Milan working on

Comparing the Intelligence of Women in Shelley s...
Intelligence of Women in Shelley s Frankenstein and Gould s Women s Brains
Throughout history, women have always aimed for a recognized place in society. Centuries ago,
people looked at the role of women in society as being sociologically inferior. Seeing the revival of
the Feminist movement, which boldly opposes the stereotypical characteristics of women in society,
on one hand, and promotes the elevation of women s status in society, on the other, one would not find
it hard to believe the drastic differences in opinion of people on this issue. What is amazing is how
these differences reflect upon scholarly works in science.
For example, in a play titled Frankenstein, based on a novel by Mary Shelley, ... Show more content

This shows that Mary Shelley must have been ahead of her time. Probably, it could also mean that if
Elizabeth had been a part of Victor s experiment of creating life, the creature would not have turned
into a destructive monster, thereby preventing the tragedy.
In contrast, Stephen Jay Gould, in Women s Brains, questions the validity of Paul Broca s study (1824
80), a professor of clinical surgery at the Faculty of Medicine in Paris, who used unrefined techniques
to prove the lower intelligence of women as compared to men (753). Having been convinced about the
direct link between the intelligence of an individual and the size of brain, Broca used his knowledge of
craniometry, the method of skull measurement, to make a relationship between the cranial capacity
and the development of the brain. As Stephen Gould puts it, Broca based his arguments on his data,
which he collected meticulously from the autopsies he performed in four Parisian hospitals. He found
the average weight of 292 male brains to be 1,325 grams, while 140 female brains averaged 1,144
grams, a difference of 14 percent of male brain s weight (754). Broca took this to mean that women
were born biologically inferior to men, whom nature endowed with intellectual superiority. According
to Gould, this discovery fuelled acrid misogynist remarks and sarcasms: The theologians had asked if
women had a soul ... some scientists were ready to refuse them

Essay on Freudian Analysis of Marigolds
Freudian Analysis of Marigolds Most of the time there is a moment in life where one realizes they
have lost all innocence and gained some compassion. Marigolds shows how one young girl transferred
from a child to young adult through her life experiences. Throughout this story another young, but at
the same time old in her prime, lady s experiences are revealed: the author s. In this short story,
Marigolds, Eugenia Collier s subconscious is unmasked through symbolism, diction, and Lizabeth s
actions. In the beginning, the author explains how this young girl, Lizabeth, lived in the culturally
deprived neighborhood during the depression. Lizabeth is at the age where she is just beginning to
become a young woman and is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obviously the author has lived through the depression and was black because one could not write
something so accurate in accordance to that time period and have one feel the deep emotional impact
of her writings without experiencing it personally. In the first sentence she writes ...all I seem to
remember is dust the brown, crumbly dust of late summer arid, sterile dust that gets in to the eyes and
makes them water, gets into the throat and between the toes of the bare brown feet. In this phrase the
words give a harsh, cruel feeling of how the depression was, which could then explain how she
remembers the depression and that it was a hard time for her. Most likely it was a significantly
hopeless moment in her life. In the next paragraph she writes When the memory of those marigolds
flashes across my mind, a strange nostalgia comes with it and remains long after the picture has faded.
Knowing the marigolds symbolize hope the word nostalgia gives a feeling of longing, since the
denotative meaning is yearning. When stating the marigolds give a strange nostalgia the author could
be thinking how she, sometime in her life, longed to have hope. She needed to have something to look
forward to or just something to look at to give her hope. Later, towards the end of the story she
explains ...Innocence involves an unseeing acceptance of things at face value, an ignorance of the area
below the surface. The words she uses give a sense of wisdom

Barbie Doll s Influence On Society
My whole philosophy of Barbie was that through the doll, the little girl could be anything she wanted
to be. Barbie always represented the fact that a woman has choices, Ruth says. (Inc, n.d) Ruth and
Elliot Handler are the founders of Mattel creation and in 1959 the world was given the Barbie doll.
(Inc, n.d.) The Barbie doll was introduced to a small toy fair costing $3. The Barbie doll was the first
doll to be sold that doesn t look, like a baby but more like a woman. The Barbie doll is an iconic doll
available for anyone, anywhere. After further research, the Barbie doll has influenced body image and
society that there is a right way to look to fit in consists of blonde hair, blue eyes, 5 8 or taller, long
legs, small waist, big boobs and butt. This encourages women to think what they have is not good
enough and they need to change it to look the best or the norm. The influences the Barbie doll has had
on body image are the unrealistic Barbie, and increasing eating disorder percentages. For every girl in
the world there are most likely 3 Barbie dolls in their house hold. Barbie dolls are accessible at almost
any store: grocery store, dollar general, Wal Mart, and a Toy Shop. From the start at age 3 and older
young girls are encouraged to play with dolls. They are encouraged to play with dolls are take the
mother figure and act as if it is their own child. Barbie however shows a different approach where
because it is a woman rather than a baby it allows

China s Growth Rate Of Steady State Essay
Introduction Krugman (1994) summarizes two sources of growth that help to expand the national
economy. They are increasing input and increasing output per unit of input. Because of the
diminishing return to capital, increasing input can only increase the output level in the long run.
Therefore, increasing input, such as increasing employment opportunities, increasing the education
level of workers, and increasing the stocks of physical capitals, is not sustainable in the long run. On
the other hand, increasing the knowledge, which belongs to the increasing output per unit of input,
increases the output growth rate in the long run. Krugman concludes that only technological progress
can affect the growth rate of steady state in the long run. Different from focusing on how to increase
the growth rate in the long run, this study focuses on how to increase the output level in the short and
medium run. In the National People s Congress Press Conference in March of 2007, China s Premier
Wen Jiabao argues that the biggest problem with China s economy is that the growth is unstable,
unbalanced, uncoordinated, and unsustainable. Based on the fact that the current ratio of consumption
over output in China is much smaller than that of other countries, such as Japan and the United States,
a higher ratio will increase China s real GDP level in the short run. Since the short run real GDP is
larger than before, a higher ratio of consumption will increase China s economic growth rate

DEVELOPMENT OF SINGLE CHIP MACHINE VISION TECHNOLOGY FOR HAZARD DETECTION IN CONSTRUCTION SITES INTRODUCTION AND JUSTIFICATION Constructions sites are considered to be one of the most dangerous land based work sectors on earth, with accidents and injuries considered to be an inevitable. Accidents in the construction industry hurt the moral of workers and contractors as well as being costly for all parties involved. Various safety measures have been implemented to reduce the occurrence of injuries as well as minimising risk of injury when the accidents happen, in an effort to transition the construction industry to a zero injury work environment. In Australia the concerted effort has already begun with mandatory safety training required ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is plausible that higher rates of PPE compliance would result in lower rates of serious injury and fatalities in the construction industry to move towards a zero injury workplace. Different types of PPE like hard hats, safety vest, steel caped boots and hearing protection have been made mandatory in work sites around Australia. Even though these restrictions have been applied to the field, many incidents have occurred where workers have had insufficient PPE resulting in potentially avoidable fatalities. PPE enforcement is a significant part of a supervisor s role at construction sites, however due to other responsibilities and tight work schedules supervisors are not capable of monitoring each and every worker on the site at all times. To overcome this deficiency, various automated solutions have been researched for the detection of safety equipment. To support this role, a video based monitoring tool is being developed that will alert the foreman to any non compliance taking place in the site. The main focus of this project is the development of a real time video monitoring system using the latest computer vision techniques. The video with be captured by a camera set up in ... Financial Statement Analysis Jet Blue Airways Corporation (JBLU) Summary of the Company Jet Blue Airways Corporation, a passenger transportation company that provides 93 destinations in 28 states in the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and 19 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America (Yahoo Finance). Jet Blue Airways Corporation is based in Long Island City, New York. Financial Ratio Analysis After computing the current ratio of Jet Blue Airways, there was a decrease from 2014 of 0.62 to 0.60 in 2015. This was a result of an increase of current liabilities that superseded the increase of current assets. The decrease in ratio between the respective years denote the inability for the company to pay off its most recent debts within a short period of time. Jet Blue current ratio falls extremely below the average among the airline industry of 0.81 (CSI Market). In 2015, Jet Blue Airways acid test ratio showed a slight increase to 0.45 from its former 0.44 rate in 2014. Consequently, the company s increased ability to pay off its debt with its most recent assets. Combined the acid test ratio and the current ratio, shows that the even though Jet Blue had a decrease in the current ratio, is had a much higher immediate liquidity status due to the fact of a 52% increase in short term investments. In addition, Jet Blue Airways experienced a 9% increase from 43.7 to 47.2 in its ability to convert its receivables ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Terrorism Impact On Terrorism 1. Introduction Twelve years have passed since four coordinated terrorist bomb attacks occurred in central London on the 7th of July in 2005, conducted by four suicide bombers. Three of the attacks took place in London Underground trains, on the Circle line near Aldgate, on the Piccadilly line near Russel Square and at Edgware Road. The fourth bomb attack happened on a double decker bus in Tavistock Square. The attacks happened during busy rush hour and the was one hour between the three London Underground train attacks and the attack on the bus. Fifty two people were killed and more than 700 were injured in the attacks, the bomb attack being the worst terror attack in the UK since the 1988 Lockerbie bombing. This terrorist attack affected people severely physically, but most of all, emotionally. The results of a telephone survey done within the general population of London after the July 7th bombings, show that 55% of 1,010 participants felt their life was in danger from terrorism and 86% of the participants thought that another attack on London was likely in the near future (Greenberg, Rubin, Wessely, 2005). In the past decade, there have been an increased amount of terrorist attacks in Europe, such as terrorist attacks in Paris in November 2016 and in Manchester Arena in May 2017. Whenever a terrorist attack happens in Europe, it is widely reported on various media outlets and the extensive media network of present day allows news to spread quickly. Consequently, even ... Australia has a number of artists who are very influential and have shaped the music world but arguably none of them are as influential and well known as the Bee Gees. Through 1970 s, the Bee Gees helped defined the disco era. The pop trio consists of Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb. All of them were brothers who grew up in Queensland, Australia. Though noted as a pop/disco group they also fall under the soul and rock genre as well. Due to their large, different use of genre, the Bee Gees have influenced many artists, noted are Brit Daniel and Brian Wilson. The Bee Gees are arguably the only pop group to write, produce and record as many top charting hits as they did. They had placed 5 songs on the top 10 s all at the same time. While Schweiger agrees that failure to communicate with employees during a merger will increase employee uncertainty and anxiety, he highlights that previous researchers (Napier et al., 1989) did not measure uncertainty nor any of the supposed dysfunctional outcomes said to follow uncertainty. Communication is also suggested by others to be avoided, as it might alert competitors or cause employees to leave an organization rather than endure painful changes (Buono Bowditch, 1989). • 9. `` Brave New World Of Digital Intimacy `` And Mark Twain... Humanity started as small tribes of people working together and benefiting each other, with each member having a clear identity that complements the other small group members. The advancement of civilization threatened this identity. Soon, hordes of people living together in cities, towns, and countries drowned out individual voices and opinions, causing people to lose a sense of identity. While it may be hard to maintain a sense of identity in a crowd, society offers many hidden benefits that can counterbalance the struggles of identity. Two readings, Clive Thompson s Brave New World of Digital Intimacy and Mark Twain s The Dairies of Adam and Eve show how society and sharing the Good life can benefit the individual overall, and might even help an individual find their own identity. In Mark Twain s The Diaries of Adam and Eve, Adam first struggled with the existence of his new life partner Eve. He hated the fact that he never had alone time, and the fact that Eve was starting to name all the animals in the garden. Matters worsened when they had kids. However, near the end of the reading, Adam begun to realize that Eve enriched his life in a way that he never knew before. Adam, in return, also enriched Eve s life. The two found happiness together where they normally would not find it alone. The pair s relationship shows the core idea of forsaking solitude and peace for something more, the companionship and joy of others. In the section under Ten Years Later Adam ... Looking back through history makes it simple to answer this question. People have very different opinions on to what their answer would be. Reading Out of the Woods edited by Char Miller and Hal Rothman, Dust Bowl: The Southern Plains in the 1930s by Donald Worstter, Nature s Metropolis: Chicago and the Great West by William Cronon, The Ecological Indian by Shepard Krech III, and Something s Rising: Appalachians Fighting Mountaintop Removal by Silas House makes it easy to comprehend and to answer how our views of nature have changed. Looking all the way back to the early Indians, Shepard Krech III, the author of The Ecological Indian, the Indians were not the one with nature individuals you thought they were. Most people that first think of the Indians were one with nature because of movies and old folk tales. They were reckless and took advantage of their environment. They used more resources than they clearly needed. The Indians would waste their animals that they hunted. They caused many problems with the ecosystem involving plants and animals triggered for the use of fire. They involved fire to clear the undergrowth of the forest. Their reasoning to do this was because it made travel significantly easier, it made a better area to hunt, and they used it as protection. From this discussion, he lays the groundwork from which he reaches absolute knowledge. In this essay, I will focus on Hegel s discussion of sense certainty. Following a brief summary of my interpretation of sense certainty, this essay will mainly focus on paragraph 91 in which Hegel acknowledges the attributes and deficiencies of sense certainty. Since the paragraph itself is too long to quote and analyze, I will choose a few key quotes from the paragraph to discuss in detail. Further, since this is the beginning of sense certainty and the claims he makes regarding sense certainty will later be refuted, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also the case that I am certain of this item not for the reason that the item of which I am certain would exist in terms of a rich relation of diverse states in itself, or because it would be related in multifarious ways to others. Both have nothing to do with the truth of sense certainty; in that certainty, neither I nor the item mean a manifold of mediation ; I does not mean a manifold of diverse activities of representing and thinking, nor does the item mean a manifold of diverse states ; rather, the item is, and it is merely because it is (Pinkard 2010). Hegel further continues his criticism of the objects of sense certainty in these sentences. Since the consciousness can t, according to sense certainty, comprehend and use its mental capacity to conceptualize the object, its is limited to mere being as it is. This being as it is stems from apprehension which allows the subject to apply universals to objects of sense certainty. This application of universals blends one object with others since universals can be applicable to other things as well. Therefore, a person is only aware of an empty universal according to Hegel who concluded that this is one of the major faults of sense certainty. In May of 2016, Statistics Canada conducted a study that showed that the majority of in demand jobs in Canada were considered low paying positions (Statistics Canada, 2016). For example, Figure 1 shows that of the 353 000 job vacancies in Canada, 50 000 of these were in either retail salespeople or food counter worker position (Statistics Canada, 2016). Since there are more available jobs in positions that receive lower incomes, this inevitably results in more people earning less which widens the income gap. Education The amount of education received is highly correlated with income level. Generally, people who have more years of education earn more money than those with less education. For example, in 2015, more than two thirds of the top one percent of income earners, 54.6 percent of the top five percent of income earners and 50.3 percent of the top ten percent of income earners held a university degree. However, only 20.9 percent of the total Canadian population over 15 years old held a university degree which shows the direct correlation with high income and education (Statistics Canada, 2017). • 16. Renowned French Composer, Claude Debussy Claude Debussy was one of the renowned French composers of the late 1800 s. He used a compositional device to dilute the sense of directed motion found in traditional progressions. Although it took while for the listening public and critics to warm up to this bold and new experiment in harmonic freedom, he was soon a distinguished music composer (Claude Debussy). Debussy s life, style, and influences all play a role in this famous composers history. Born in France on August 22, 1862, Claude Debussy was the oldest of five children. He displayed an early fascination for the piano, and began to take lessons at the age of seven. Later, he entered the Paris Conservatory, where his students and instructors noticed his talent, but frequently discovered his efforts at musical innovation eccentric (Achille Claude Debussy). In 1884, Debussy won a price for his cantata, The Prodigal Child, which included three years of study in Rome. Back in Paris, he composed another cantata, La Demoselle Elue in 1888. Furthermore, he proved his genius with his Quartet in G minor in 1893 (Fleming 58). Debussy is usually considered the principle figure in the transition from the late romantic style to the twentieth century style. However, he was soon distinguished as a prominent composer of the early twentieth century, and his music is classified as a musical counterpart to the artistic movement known as impressionism (Claude Debussy). • 18. Autism And Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Essay In today s world, it is easy to label people based on what society defines as normal. Society dictates how we view people on a daily basis and this forces people to view things from a singular perspective. Unfortunately, this single point of view may lead to discrimination against people who are different. For example, those with disabilities and other diagnoses are neglected, overlooked, or judged by those who are influenced by that singular perspective. In specific, Autism which is referred to as Autistic Spectrum Disorder, is something that the public has heard before but they do not fully understand or are unaware about its true definition. According to the Centers for Disease Control s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM), approximately 1 in 68 children have been identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (CDC, 2016). This increased prevalence is why it is important to continue educating the public about those living with Autism as well as critical for social awareness and for the overall health of the community. Tipton and Blacher (2014) investigated how those in a college community observed the characteristics and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. • 19. A Synopsis Of Sigmund Freud A Synopsis of Sigmund Freud The Theorist Sigmund Freud was born, May 6, 1856, and died 23 September, 1939. He was beyond a doubt one of the founding fathers of modern psychology. Sigmund Freud examined the human mind more in depth than anyone who became before him. His contributions to psychology are immeasurable. He was one of the most influential people throughout the twentieth century. His theories, and research have influenced not only psychology, but many other areas of culture, including the way people raise their children even today. Freud influenced language and embedded it within the modern vocabulary of today. Words such as anal (personality), libido, denial, repression, cathartic, Freudian slip, and neurotic are just a few of terms he coined that are still widely used. Freud held the belief that when explaining our own behavior, we rarely give an accurate account of our motivation. It is not because we are intentionally lying. Although people are good deceivers of others, they are even better at deceiving themselves. The rationalizations of our conduct are actually disguising the real reasons. Freud s life work was spent predominately trying to find ways of circumventing this camouflage that obscures the hidden structure and processes of personality. Sigmund Freud really gained substantial recognition with his first book, co authored with Josef Breuer, Studies in Hysteria. Yes, I agree that the there is an issue in regards to orientation process and the relationship it has on staff retention within our unit. I believe that a lack of proper orientation can have a tremendous impact of nurse retention rates. With improper orientation the entire unit suffers. It correlates with a decrease in the quality of care, patient safety and satisfaction, as well as nurse confidence. Having all staff trained in an extensive and consistent orientation program brings about better continuity and higher quality of care, as well as an increase in positive patient outcomes. The lack of an extensive and consistent orientation program leads to a deficit in critical thinking skills and clinical knowledge. When a nurse is not fully prepared for her role within a unit, it directly translates into patient care practices. I believe it also leads to a decrease in staff satisfaction for the new nurse as well as the seasoned nurses within the unit. The author has a degree in history, psychology, forensics, and political science. He has worked as a professor for the last fifteen years and has written two books, Hannibal Crosses the Alps and Xenophon s March. Alexander the Great has always been a fascinating topic, but something that had always bothered me is the fact that even though I know his name, I had no idea what he had done, why he was famous, and why he is called Great , therefore I chose this book to know what Alexander did, what made him famous, and why he is important. The first chapter begins by describing Persepolis right before it was conquered by Alexander the Great (330 BCE). The city was a relatively new, magnificent capital of the Persian Empire. The city s original name was Parsa, but the Greeks changed it to Persepolis, which means Persian City. The city was created by the two kings that the Greeks hated the most, Darius I and Xerxes (they were responsible for the burning of Athens in the fifth century. Not only are so many children are being neglected, but the kids aren t being prepared to help children develop skills and knowledge that will help them get the education they need. Skeptics may say that foster homes are fine as they are or that they ve changed , but truth is that foster homes don t really care and haven t taken any action to help the kids/teens. After all, most children are not being helped or supported mentally/emotionally, and most of the kids have been known to struggle from PTSD. If we are able to speak up for these children/teens, or help foster homes improve, we must provide different ideas for solutions and let our voices be heard. For example, giving kids a permanent family and love is a way to heal the kids/teens. So for children and teens like Marcellia everywhere, let them know that their voice matters. They can finally be heard. Give children living in foster homes chance by helping them; listening to them, the words and pain they keep inside. And maybe, just maybe, it can help them ... Leonardo Da Vinci was born on April 15th 1452 in Vinci, near Florence Italy. His father, Piero Da Vinci, was a notary, and mother Caterina was a peasant girl. Soon after his birth Piero Da Vinci took custody of Leonardo because his mother left and married another man in a nearby town. At the age of 15 his father got him an apprenticeship with a renowned artist Andrea Del Verrochio in Florence, who did such painting as Madonna and Child and Saint Monica ; however he was most famous for his bronze status of the day. His father gave Verrocchio a drawing that Leonardo had done and just with that alone, Leonardo was accepted into the apprenticeship job. He learned skills from Verrocchio such as painting, sculpting, and goldsmithing. He later evolved the skills he learned from Verrocchio and turned them into his own creating new and better ways to paint and sculpt. Not a lot is said about his religion other than that he was a Catholic which goes to show that religion did not take much of a place in his studies and life. His painting showed how he thought religion should be viewed and tought in the more pure of forms. Instead saw the ideals of the leaders of the church were corrupt and misleading thus Leonardo Da Vinci never had an active role in the church or its activities. Did this person have a cause ? If so, what was it and how successful was he in pursing it. What obstacles were overcome? Who were this person s allies and enemy s in pursuit of this cause? During his time as an apprentice to just before he wrote a letter to the Duke of Milan in 1842, Leonardo didn t have much of a reason or cause to be doing what he was doing, other than the love and the passion for making art. Once France started to invade the cities and states of Italy he wrote a letter to the Duke of Milan telling him what he could offer to his military. • 40. Comparing the Intelligence of Women in Shelley s... Intelligence of Women in Shelley s Frankenstein and Gould s Women s Brains Throughout history, women have always aimed for a recognized place in society. Centuries ago, people looked at the role of women in society as being sociologically inferior. Seeing the revival of the Feminist movement, which boldly opposes the stereotypical characteristics of women in society, on one hand, and promotes the elevation of women s status in society, on the other, one would not find it hard to believe the drastic differences in opinion of people on this issue. What is amazing is how these differences reflect upon scholarly works in science. For example, in a play titled Frankenstein, based on a novel by Mary Shelley, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows that Mary Shelley must have been ahead of her time. Probably, it could also mean that if Elizabeth had been a part of Victor s experiment of creating life, the creature would not have turned into a destructive monster, thereby preventing the tragedy. In contrast, Stephen Jay Gould, in Women s Brains, questions the validity of Paul Broca s study (1824 80), a professor of clinical surgery at the Faculty of Medicine in Paris, who used unrefined techniques to prove the lower intelligence of women as compared to men (753). Having been convinced about the direct link between the intelligence of an individual and the size of brain, Broca used his knowledge of craniometry, the method of skull measurement, to make a relationship between the cranial capacity and the development of the brain. As Stephen Gould puts it, Broca based his arguments on his data, which he collected meticulously from the autopsies he performed in four Parisian hospitals. He found the average weight of 292 male brains to be 1,325 grams, while 140 female brains averaged 1,144 grams, a difference of 14 percent of male brain s weight (754). Broca took this to mean that women were born biologically inferior to men, whom nature endowed with intellectual superiority. According to Gould, this discovery fuelled acrid misogynist remarks and sarcasms: The theologians had asked if women had a soul ... some scientists were ready to refuse them ... Marigolds shows how one young girl transferred from a child to young adult through her life experiences. Throughout this story another young, but at the same time old in her prime, lady s experiences are revealed: the author s. In this short story, Marigolds, Eugenia Collier s subconscious is unmasked through symbolism, diction, and Lizabeth s actions. In the beginning, the author explains how this young girl, Lizabeth, lived in the culturally deprived neighborhood during the depression. Obviously the author has lived through the depression and was black because one could not write something so accurate in accordance to that time period and have one feel the deep emotional impact of her writings without experiencing it personally. In the first sentence she writes ...all I seem to remember is dust the brown, crumbly dust of late summer arid, sterile dust that gets in to the eyes and makes them water, gets into the throat and between the toes of the bare brown feet. In this phrase the words give a harsh, cruel feeling of how the depression was, which could then explain how she remembers the depression and that it was a hard time for her. Most likely it was a significantly hopeless moment in her life. In the next paragraph she writes When the memory of those marigolds flashes across my mind, a strange nostalgia comes with it and remains long after the picture has faded. Knowing the marigolds symbolize hope the word nostalgia gives a feeling of longing, since the denotative meaning is yearning. When stating the marigolds give a strange nostalgia the author could be thinking how she, sometime in her life, longed to have hope. She needed to have something to look forward to or just something to look at to give her hope. Later, towards the end of the story she explains ...Innocence involves an unseeing acceptance of things at face value, an ignorance of the area below the surface. • 46. China s Growth Rate Of Steady State Essay Introduction Krugman (1994) summarizes two sources of growth that help to expand the national economy. They are increasing input and increasing output per unit of input. Because of the diminishing return to capital, increasing input can only increase the output level in the long run. Therefore, increasing input, such as increasing employment opportunities, increasing the education level of workers, and increasing the stocks of physical capitals, is not sustainable in the long run. On the other hand, increasing the knowledge, which belongs to the increasing output per unit of input, increases the output growth rate in the long run. Krugman concludes that only technological progress can affect the growth rate of steady state in the long run. Different from focusing on how to increase the growth rate in the long run, this study focuses on how to increase the output level in the short and medium run. In the National People s Congress Press Conference in March of 2007, China s Premier Wen Jiabao argues that the biggest problem with China s economy is that the growth is unstable, unbalanced, uncoordinated, and unsustainable. Based on the fact that the current ratio of consumption over output in China is much smaller than that of other countries, such as Japan and the United States, a higher ratio will increase China s real GDP level in the short run. Since the short run real GDP is larger than before, a higher ratio of consumption will increase China s economic growth rate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
