Essay about Phobias Explained
Many people claim to be afraid of spiders, but probably not to the degree of 37 year old Mary Muffet
of Seattle. Mary went to many lengths to be spider free, including sealing her windows and doors with
duct tape, spraying her car with bug killer, and putting every single piece of washed and ironed
clothing into its own sealed plastic bag. She wasn t just afraid of spiders; she had arachnophobia, a
phobia, not to be confused with a simple fear. Phobias are not simple; they are complex in both their
origin and diagnosis, with many types that people suffer from and any number of treatments exist to
date.
What is a phobia?
Phobias are described as a persistent, irrational fear of an object, activity or situation that compels a ...

What causes a phobia?
There is currently insufficient research in the field of phobias to determine a definite, clear cause.
What is known is that phobias are common in children and do not represent an abnormality. Phobias
can start in childhood or adulthood. Some people have suddenly become terrified of things they ve
been doing for years, somewhat like a flight attendant that suddenly begins to have panic attacks on
her 500th flight. In most cases, phobias are thought to branch from a confrontation with the feared
object or situation. Six of every ten persons who suffer phobias are able to remember when the fear
crisis occurred for the first time, i.e., when the sensation of panic became attached to the place or
situation where it first happened (Masci, 2002, p.2). Most phobias do not interfere with an individual s
normal functioning to the point of seeking treatment. There is usually no family history of mental
illness or of the same phobia. For example, a person with claustrophobia (fear of being in small
enclosed spaces such as an elevator) does not necessarily have a relative that is mentally ill or is also
claustrophobic. Most simple phobias develop in childhood and eventually go away. Ones that remain
rarely go away without treatment. There are theories that some phobias occur more naturally than
others. It is thought that they are somehow built into the brain. Many experiments with monkeys
display this particular theory. Shown videos of a

Research Paper On Venus Transit
The transit of Venus, seen from Earth as a small, dark disk crossing over the sun, is one of the rarest
astronomical events to ever witness. If you missed it back in 2012 then chances are you ll never see it
again in your lifetime. In order for the transit to happen, Venus orbit has to align just right so that the
planet is positioned exactly between the Earth and the sun. The transit has helped astronomers learn
more about Venus atmosphere, the width of the sun, the size of the solar system, and it has helped to
figure out exactly how long an astronomical unit (AU) is. Different filters on telescopes were used to
capture the different lights emitted from the sun during the Venus transit. A white light telescope

Dehumanization And How It Affects The History Of Psychology
Abstract
Despite dehumanization being an important phenomenon in social psychology, it has been neglected
by some philosophers. It has extensive ramifications for moral philosophy. Study of dehumanization
in psychological aspects is very crucial as it has implications for diverse areas as conceptions of what
is humanity, notions of racism and race, genocide and war. This paper will analyze slavery on
concepts of dehumanization and how it affected the history of psychology. Works of various
prominent figures in the history of psychology will be analyzed, and their implications put forth. The
paper will further discuss and analyze how an individual s concepts contribute to the development of
the modern psychology and how their ideas are employed in the contemporary society.
Introduction
In the 17th century, the colonists in both North America and Caribbean regarded and treated African
slaves merely as subhuman creatures. An Anglican clergyman of that period studied the aspects of
slavery and how that influenced the African Americans. He observed that slavery had three
fundamental components of dehumanization. The main concern was the association between the
appearances of the slaves and their actual or real nature; they believed that the Africans only
resembled human beings but were not human beings. The second concern was attributed to the
dehumanized population human essence; the colonialists believed that the African lacked human
essence. Finally, the colonialists

The Role Of Aristocratic Women In The Tudor Period
When looking at much of Tudor History especially at the earlier reigns of Henry VII and his successor
Henry VIII many historians have neglected to explore the agency of women in this period. More
specifically the agency of women in the aristocracy is something that can be heavily debated.
Aristocratic women in the Tudor period while often presented as side actors who get acted upon are
were actually dynamic individuals who forged their own paths. When looking at these women it is
important to analyze it in terms of their religion, family, and social position.
Through much of my research I found that these dynamic women had complex motives and reasoning
behind most of their actions. It is also important to note that many of these women who did not always
have the agency they wanted were being constrained by either their wealth, family, or social position.
The day to day and struggles of an aristocratic women s early life greatly deferred from those of the
more common women and for this reason the case of their agency is wholly different.
When analyzing the autonomy of aristocratic women of the Tudor period it is impossible to overlook
Anne Boleyn and her rise and fall to power. It is important to analyze how her family the Boleyn s as
well as the Howards shaped her life but also the way she shaped theirs. Some historians say that you
can t look at Anne as an example as the agency of an aristocratic women because she was queen of
England. This is not necessarily true as she

BUSN WK6 Assignment Analysis
BUSN WK6 ASSIGNMENT The main approach would be for the board to provide a strategic plan set
in place for the nonprofit organization and its mission. Once the funds have been allocated, it is the
responsibility of the CEO/Executive Director to see that those funds are applied as assigned. All funds
disbursed for day to day operations, weekly and monthly are tallied. If the forecast for a certain
program was over estimated, the CEO/Executive Director can inform the board and suggest other
avenues for unassigned funds. It also presents itself in the form of first hand knowledge, like being on
the front line and reporting back to headquarters of the current positions. CEO/Executive Directors in
the nonprofit sector are focused and balanced at the same time for maximum success. Lacking
knowledge on finances, most executive directors need to know what financial information is essential.
Having that information or financial statements in an understandable format and knowing how to
analyze those reports to assess the financial health of the organization is crucial for making
programming decisions and financial goals. (Brickman, P. 2005). This information of analysis is
transferred to staff for proper processing. Some programs based on actual report may need to be

Timmy Turner Short Story
One early morning Cosmo Cosma walked outside into the damp, foggy air, where he had noticed his
basketball idol, Timmy Turner, appeared out of the misty, white fog. His favorite player in the world
just appeared, and Cosmo was mystified by his vision. Cosmo had started trudging towards Timmy
because he heard his voice calling him in a captivating tone, and once he had begun his process
towards Timmy, his idol gradually begun to evaporate into mid air. When Cosmo had seen the
development begin he had rapidly begun to sprint towards Timmy, when he suddenly had been
awoken from his hypnotic state because of luminous, golden lights materialized from the fog. The
mesmerizing lights turned out to be his friend Jorgen Von Strangle, who had come to pick up Cosmo
for their Saturday morning basketball practice.

Essay On African Descent
Artist Activists of African Descent For change to take place, there must be a call for action. Someone
has to stand up and demand that a way of thinking or a set of laws be changed. Those who bring
attention to the problems at hand, and who demand for change to take place, are called activists. The
term activist means a doctrine or practice that emphasizes direct vigorous action especially in support
of or opposition to one side of a controversial issue. (Merriam Webster Dictionary) Activists are
essential for us to have a world that runs efficiently. If everybody was afraid to speak their mind, and
if nobody pursued change, then we wouldn t have means of transportation (cars, boats, planes, etc.),
the New World would have never been discovered, and there would still be slavery. The activists that I

Apologetics Reflection
Apologetics is not just about learning to defend yourself. It requires you to know the Truth about the
Bible and why you believe in it. Apologetics also teaches you to set a foundation for your belief and
how you could defend yourself from worldly perspectives. As stated in 1 Peter 3:15, Instead, you must
worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian faith, be ready to
explain it. we must be able to know how to defend ourselves. Throughout the course of the first
quarter, we were educated many ideas regarding critical thinking, the Bible, and Truth.
Before we began entering the studies of apologetics, we discussed about the definition of apologetics
and its origins. Apologetics comes from the Greek word Apologia , ... Show more content on

When I had to answer questions by analyzing information and bringing points together in a test, that s
critical thinking. You don t need to be in college or be asked hard questions to use it. We should use it
many times over our life as a student and when out of school.
Near the end of the quarter, we began discussing about Truth. We answered what exactly Truth means
as seen in the Bible. When bringing up Truth, there are certain rules you must abide by, or else it may
not actually be true. Aside from all the rules, the concept of Truth is simple. Despite this fact, people
still continue to deny the fact that there is absolute Truth. Truth about reality should always be
knowable, as stated in John 8:32 You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. There are
certain rules to Truth which decerns it from being an absolute Truth or a complete lie. Truth must
correspond to the object it s talking about, correspond to reality, and also accurately express an actual
state of affairs. Truth is also always absolute no matter what. It can t be somewhat be true somehow.
Unfortunately, there are many common mistakes people make when trying to find absolute

The Major Saturated Fatty Acid
The major saturated fatty acid in most diets is palmitic acid. [19] It is most common in animal fats but
also occurs in vegetable oil. It has been shown in research that palmitic acid increases LDL cholesterol
levels in parallel to total cholesterol levels. [30] Myristic acid has also been shown in two studies
conducted in the 1960 s to raise cholesterol concentration. [9, 10] The study conducted by Hegsted et
al. suggested that myristic acid raises cholesterol concentrations even higher than palmitic. Unlike
palmitic and myristic, stearic acid is a SFA that has shown not to raise cholesterol levels. [7, 9] It was
proposed by Keys et al. to subtract stearic acid from the total saturated when calculating serum
cholesterol response, but the equation was rarely used by following studies. More recent studies, if
using Keys et al. equation, could produce results more indicative of the true negatives of saturated fat
intake in regards to CVD risk and incidence.
In the 2014 meta analysis, individual fatty acids were examined to determine the degree to which it
will influence CVD risk factors and incidence. The SFA stearic acid was found to have the highest
positive correlation with CVD risk and incidence, followed by palmitic and oleic. [25] In contrast,
margaric acid was associated with a significantly lower risk. Also eicosapentaenoic, docosahexaenoic,
and arachidonic were found to be associated with statistically significant lower risks. This
corroborates and refutes previous

text from the BOS booklet together with two pieces of related material. All issues are to speak in
relation to Sally Morgan s inner journey. The inner journey is a concept that has always been debated,
and so has its meaning. The word ‘inner has the alternative meaning of personal. Moreover, the word
journey has an alternative meaning of movement. So, the concept of the inner journey, customarily,
has the meaning of a personal movement. Inner journeys have often been described as the metaphor

Throughout the story the respondent is left wondering the reason behind the family s silence towards
each other. This statement only reinforces the idea that the core text, My Place, clearly depicts how the
journey is the reward. Sally Morgan uses a wide range of different techniques to convey her physical
and internal movement to disclose her family heritage and her own identity. The book itself is
structured in a completely original format. Sally has managed to make her story stand out by
separating each individual story, thus, the book is separated into her own story, her Uncle Arthur s
story, her mother s story and finally, her grandmother s story. It must be noted that inner journeys are
plagued with choices, and this is a truth and reality that no one can escape. As Robert Frost says in
‘The Road Not Taken , ‘Two roads diverged in a yellow wood. In Sally s quest for information, she
met a lady called ‘Elsie who gave her a great depth and insight into her Grandmother and the past. In
Sally s mind, her journey was definitely rewarded and this made her feel ‘full inside . Sally s mother,
Gladys, had also found an new sense of fulfillment which completed her as a whole, because she was
previously only ‘half a person . For Sally, it was her determination and ‘stubborn nature which
meant that she was rewarded, because in her heart she realized that unless the family went on such an
epic journey ‘we never would have known our place .

Reformulating the Hazards Mitigation Paradigm Essay
Scholarly assessments of our nation s capability to effectively respond to hazards suggest a paradigm
shift is needed regarding the future direction of research, policy and tactics for preparing and
responding to natural and human made hazards. This paper will provide a historical overview of our
nation s emergency preparedness and response posture, examine the need to reformulate the existing
hazards paradigm into a broader resiliency framework, and suggest roles and responsibilities
characteristic of government and community stakeholders in the context of this broadened approach.
Mechanisms needed to achieve a successful implementation of this improved strategy will also be
examined.

An effort to centralize federal emergency functions was instituted in 1979 where many separate
disaster related responsibilities were merged into the Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA). FEMA developed an integrated emergency management system, realigning its mission from
civil defense into disaster relief, recovery and mitigation programs using an all hazards approach.
Following the terrorist attacks of 2001, FEMA coordinated its activities with the newly formed Office
of Homeland Security by joining 22 other federal agencies, programs and offices which became the
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in 2003 (Federal Emergency Management Agency, 2010).
Despite efforts to better organize federal response programs, expectations regarding improved federal
response to natural disasters were shattered by FEMA s poor performance in dealing with hurricanes
(Waugh Tierney, 2007, p.33). While integrating FEMA into DHS was intended to the federal response
capability, DHS was found to be plagued by high employee turnover and low morale to the degree
Homeland Security had the lowest job satisfaction rating out of 36 government agencies surveyed;
DHS instituted an ineffective and oft misunderstood color coded threat warning system; DHS
response to Hurricane Katrina exposed a lack of coordination and leadership; and, the agency s
integration of people, assets and technology into one overarching entity has proved complicated and

Santiago defines the ideology of being Puerto Rican , and the changing assimilation process that
allows her to see her white classmates and teachers as friends or compatriots: If I looked at Performing

Repercussions Of Revenge In Hamlet
The Repercussions of Revenge Revenge is shown throughout Shakespeare s play Hamlet, leaving the
destruction of human relationships in its wake. The act of vengeance is usually a violent act against
someone as a result of something they directly or indirectly did. This can be seen in The Tragedy of
Hamlet; Prince of Denmark with Hamlet s plan to murder Claudius for the death of his father, King
Hamlet, and Laertes similar plan to murder Hamlet for the death of his father, Polonius. When
someone is attempting to seek retribution against someone else, it results in that person deceiving the
people they love to further progress their intentions. Because of revenge, ones suffering increases due
to the continuous loss of relationships with your love ones. Revenge could even put you in a situation
that could risk your own life. Throughout Shakespeare s play, William Shakespeare demonstrated how
revenge leads to a path of deceit and despair. In the play, Hamlet shows how revenge can turn
someone towards the dark side of life. This could be anywhere from lying and deceiving your loved
ones to murdering helpless bystanders; all in order to further their own goal. Prior to Hamlet finding
proof about what the ghost said, how Claudius murdered his father, he decided that if what he was told
was true he would go down the path of vengeance to honor his father s memories. Hamlet started to lie
to everyone he loved about his true intentions, so no one would suspect him attempting to kill the new
king. He did this by tricking Polonius, Ophelia s father and King Claudius s advisor, into believing
that the reason he was acting very strange was because he was terribly in love with Ophelia. In act two
scene one, Ophelia exclaimed to her father that Hamlet acted as if he had been tossed out of hell... to
speak of horrors he comes before me. Polonius responded by asking Mad for thy love? (93 95).
Hamlet has succeeded in lying to everyone in the kingdom about why he is so depressed and confused
by Polonius stating mad for thy love. Now all the characters believe he is just a normal teenage boy
attempting to court a well known beauty. He can now continue his plan of murdering Claudius to seek
vengeance for his father s death,

The film has a notable distinction in its characters. The Godfather has the honor of having a more

has characters that are spread thin, with the few having the most concentration of traits. Tony, Manny,
Gina, Elvira and Sosa are the only notable characters that have concentrated traits.
Michael and Tony s personalities are polar opposites. Michael is a law abiding citizen, aspiring to live
a normal life with his girlfriend, Kay. He was only dragged into family affairs after the attempted hit

Steve Jobs s Commencement Speech
An effective speech is one which manages to leave the audience with a lesson for life. After
thoroughly analyzing Apple s CEO, Steve Jobs Commencement Speech at the 2005 Stanford
graduation, I would say it was, in fact, highly effective. Jobs managed to summarize his life in three
short stories that taught the audience some very valuable lessons. There are various things that
separate Steve Jobs speech from any other and one of the most important might be his success in life.
This can be the factor that makes a speech be as successful as this was. If it had been told by someone
else, it wouldn t have had the same impact.
Jobs speech took place in the 2005 graduation of the University of Stanford, in the city with the same
name in California. He was assigned the commencement speech for the event. Even though Jobs
himself was a college dropout, he had deep respect for institutions and students, and that speech he
gave in Stanford was the only one he had agreed to give as, despite being a good public speaker, he
never participated in this kind of event. He had an audience of more than twenty thousand people and

School Campuses And Its Effects On The United States
Violence in schools has spread widely throughout the world, leading to many problems among
families and students. On April 20, 1999, Columbine High School was the most famous and deadly act
of violence in the United States due to a lack of security. The massacre happened where Eric Harris
and Dylan Klebold killed 12 students, one teacher, and injuring 21 other students before turning the
guns on themselves. As a safe environment such as school, it is very important to make sure students
feel comfortable and safe during the semester. The best solution to minimizing the violation from
happening again involves two actions; make all school campuses improved by increasing the number

The U.s. Pharmaceutical Industry
The U.S. pharmaceutical industry is continuously growing and profiting. How these industries profit
and grow in the current status of the American business is caused by various factors such as demand
of the citizens, change in marketing and competition. To understand how the factors added to the
increase in profit and growth of the pharmaceutical industries, we need to know how it was founded
and industrialized.
In an article written by Robin Walsh for Pharmaphorum the history of pharmaceutical industries can
be seen as a multi stage development. One of it is the root of the pharmaceutical industry lying back
with apothecaries and pharmacies that offers traditional remedies as far back as the Middle Ages.
The spread of rationalism and experimentation is a scientific revolution that occurred in the 17th
century and increased the profit of pharmaceutical industries. The

Plato s Teachings Of Philosophy
Plato was a well known philosopher who lived during the time of the distinguished Greek
philosophers. He was born into a wealthy and very noble family in the Athens. In the midst of
preparation for his life long career as a politician, the young Plato witnessed the trial and eventual
execution of Socrates. Little did he or anyone know this would ultimately lead him to completely
abandon his political career and become one of the world s most distinguished philosophers. Although
Plato s teachings are not universally agreed upon, virtually anyone can agree that that he was a
brilliant thinker and spurred many thoughts and beliefs that are carried into today s teachings of
philosophy. While the precise relationship of Plato and Socrates remains a heated disagreement among
scholars, Plato states that he was, in fact, a devoted follower of Socrates. Plato was highly influenced
by Socrates teachings and highly disturbed by his execution, eventually leading him to establish an
extremely powerful body of intellectual work. Plato is known to be a great writer as well as teacher.
Some of Plato s most famous teachings and writings had to do with his powerful argument that was in
favor of the objectivity of values. He taught that objective values are those that exist outside the
individual and are otherwise dependent upon their individual perception or personal belief. This can
include truth, beauty, as well as good. Some other distinguished philosophers have come up with

Abstract
This paper outlines the formation of a vision statement, the mission and the values that JetBlue and
Southwest airlines embrace. A firm can initiate strategic management once it forms a mission
statement. That statement allows forms to aspire to its potential while bearing in mind what it wants to

Recommendations to the leadership: My recommendations for both companies are to keep employee

The Vision: JetBlue s 2005 annual report features a quotation from then CEO David Neeleman that
serves as a summation of company vision: As JetBlue continues to grow, we know our commitment to
friendly, helpful service, combined with amenities customers want, will continue to keep JetBlue #1 in
the eyes of our customers ( JetBlue Annual Report, 2005). That statement reads well within that six
year old annual report. JetBlue has grown substantially since 2005 and Neeleman since has been
replaced by Dave Barger as CEO ( JetBlue Annual Report, 2010). Barger could expand on the
Neelman s vision and offer the following vision in 2011: JetBlue s vision is one of continual emphasis
on providing competitive rates for customers for all of our destinations. We will strive to maintain our
industry standard lowest cost per mile, and will continually seek new strategies and technologies that
keep down the costs for every one of our flight routes. We foresee JetBlue as a value driven leader,

Comfort Women Research Paper
Comfort Women and the Japanese Denial of Forced Prostitution During the time of the Japanese
Empire, when Japan had taken control of Korea and was attempting to expand its territory further, the
Japanese military utilized sex slaves and prostitutes called comfort women in order to boost morale
and prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. However, after World War II, these comfort
women all but vanished from Japanese history, only to reemerge in a large movement in the 1990s
demanding the Japanese recognize the war crimes committed against these women. Since then, Japan
changed its official stance several times on whether or not the comfort women existed and whether or

While Tokyo drew up a compensation plan for the comfort women in December 1994, this
compensation plan called for raising non government funds, which was rejected by a coalition of
South Korean civic groups because they felt that the government itself should pay for its crimes (Soh
Korean Comfort Women 1237). Japan also heavily downplayed the atrocities of the comfort woman
system. Japanese schoolbooks from the time generally omitted the existence of the comfort women,
and seemed to have the view that all Asians suffered as a collective in the war, which completely
ignores the fact that the Japanese subjugated other Asian ethnicities (Nishioka Behind the Comfort
Women Controversy 5). Many Japanese did not even believe the testimony of the comfort women, and
believed the Asahi Shimbun article was falsified to sell papers (Nishioka The Comfort Women Issue

women issue at the general assembly meeting of the U.N. Human Rights Commission in Geneva in

The Departed Comparison
The movies Infernal Affairs (2002, directed by Andrew Lau) and The Departed (2006, directed by
Martin Scorsese), the latter being an adaptation of the former, are surprisingly similar films overall.
The discrepancies between the two motion pictures are only easily seen when analyzing the difference
in the narrative, plot and cinematography used within each film, while taking into account the
influences of the differing cultures that the two films were created in (i.e. location of creation). Due to
the differing locales: China (Hong Kong) for Infernal Affairs and the United States (Boston) for The
Departed, the unique and different cultures influenced the modification that took place in the
adaptation from the former into the latter. The difference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Romance, as seen in Infernal Affairs and The Departed, are highly different. In the former, it is barely
touched at all and most love interests are chaste whereas in the latter it is much more explicit.
Throughout The Departed, it is apparent that sexuality goes hand in hand with masculinity: as
expressed by Sullivan mocking the firemen for being gay when the police department loses to a
football game. Most insults and threats invariably involve sexual references unlike Infernal Affairs.
One interesting thing to analyze between the two films, is the psychological stress that is shown and
acted out by the characters in the films. While The Departed is a longer film, it is slightly less
psychologically nuanced than Infernal Affairs. Sullivan is not shown as truly evil, but his speculations
are never really scrutinized. Costigan is easily seen conflicted, but that stems from his fear of being
discovered and killed. In Infernal Affairs, it is somewhat clear that both Lau and Chen are feeling a
disconnection between their internal and external self, stemming from their involvement in spying.
The borderline between a police officer and a triad member becomes easier to cross. This shows the
influence of culture on the overall film, and the subsequent narrative, plot and use of cinematic

Explication Essay A Hunger Artist The children stood opened mouthed, holding each others hands for

artist is a man who wanted to be so great at his own craft that pain and suffering were a small price to

Hunger In Third World Essay
Ed Asner once said, There are genuinely sufficient resources in the world to ensure that no one,
nowhere, at no time should go hungry . Hunger can be defined as a shortage of food; famine but
across the world it has more serious and genuine connotations. Hunger is painful, degrading, and
seemingly hopeless for all within its depths. Each hour more than three hundred children die of hunger
in third world countries. An epidemic is the rapid spread or increase in the occurrence of something .
The epidemic of hunger is one that costs the world seventy seven billon dollars in national income lost
each year.
Hunger is the result of soaring food prices, unreliable weather conditions, financial crisis, and political
unrest. In third world countries over one third of families are pulling their children out of school so
that they can provide for their family and hunger needs. No child should have to sacrifice their
education so that their family has access to food. In the world, malnutrition and hunger could be
prevented with ten billion dollars per year. The act of supporting those in need would prevent two
million deaths and sixty million cases of malnutrition each year.
The third world country of Malawi, located in the southeast portion of Africa is one of the countries
requiring the most financial and hunger support. Malawi has the second fastest growing population in
the world with a current population of 17,964,697. With a high birth rate, death rate, and woman

Religious Prayer Within Public Schools
Religious prayer within public schools has been a heated debate for many years and ultimately has
caught national attention. Overtime many court cases have challenge this issue. The Constitution itself
is on the fence of religious prayer because of the First Amendment s freedom of speech clause which
prohibits the government s involvement with the freedom of exercise of religion. The policy of
religious prayer within Mississippi public schools is a state policy level. In the year of 2013, Governor
Phil Bryant of Mississippi signed a bill/law that protects voluntary prayers from students on public
school property and other public property. This policy also protects student prayers at public school
related events such as praying over public school intercoms, at assemblies, and sporting events. In
addition, the policy allows students to openly discuss their faith with classrooms and permits students
to establish organizations such as a bible club. To clarify, the term protection does not imply that the
law is promoting any religion or religious belief. However, it is against the law for administration
from public schools to lead a public school prayer.

Michelangelo, A Biography Essay
Michelangelo Buonarroti was born on March 6, 1475. He lived almost a full century and died on
February 18, 1564; he was still working six days before his death. During his life, the western world
underwent what was perhaps the most remarkable period of change since the decline of the Roman
Empire. The Renaissance saw changes in all aspects of life and culture, with dramatic reforms
sweeping through the worlds of religion, politics, and scientific belief. Michelangelo was one of the
advocates of this new philosophy, while creating some of the most beautiful and very famous artwork
pieces ever created.

Other influences on his young mind included two members of the church: one was his local priest and
the other was an opinionated monk named Fra Girolamo Savonarola.
Michelangelo first heard Savonarola preach in 1492, the year in which his first patron, Lorenzo de
Medici, died and Michelangelo returned to his father s home. The monk s sermons and his subsequent
violent death had a lifelong effect on the artist and many of his works; the loss of Lorenzo also deeply
affected his artistic consciousness.
At the age of 21, he made his first trip to Rome, a city that was both to play a prominent part in his life
and create many frustrations for him. This time he spent five years in the city, creating some of his
best known works. In 1496 97, he completed his first important commission, Bacchus. ( Martindale

In 1497 98, Michelangelo created the Pieta, a masterpiece of sculpture that could not be further

Analysis Of Richard Branson And Max Levchin
People rely on a leader that will guide them through their hard times and conflicts. According to
BusinessDictionary.com, a leader steps up in times of crisis, and is able to think and act creatively in
difficult situations. Some of the best world business leaders, such as Richard Branson and Max
Levchin, share their secrets on how they made their companies manageable. By using these leadership
secrets, they will be compared with some of the previous CEOs of Tyco International and their
management styles. Demonstrating precise leadership is known to motivate employees and increase
the number of customers. However, it seems that Tyco International attracts more unethical CEOs
rather than influential leaders. Richard Branson demonstrates outstanding leadership qualities, which
has reflected on his success in developing an investment business known as the Virgin Group. This
company is an investment group that is greatly known throughout the globe. According to Branson, a
good leader never rushes in and jumps to rash conclusions before knowing all the facts they delay
judgment and first try to see the whole picture clearly (businessinsider). An example of this quote is
when Kozlowski invested in Wormald International, which displeased Fort because he wanted to

Zimbardo s Experiment, Studying The Way Prisoners And...
Likewise Zimbardo s (1971) experiment, studying the way prisoners and guards interacted,
demonstrated similar ethical failings, such as consent gained without individuals being made fully
aware of the involvements; physical, emotional and psychological harm subjected; violation of rights,
including privacy, respect, confidentiality and the ability to withdraw (). Fascinated by the volume of
ordinary individuals who executed terrible things to others during WWII, Zimbardo predicted that all
people, even the good, had the potential to conduct malevolence when sited in the correct environment
(Haney et al, 1973). In a mock prison participants were recruited to play a role, half as prisoners and
the rest as guards. Both were dressed accordingly, with the guards wearing a uniform with mirrored
sunglasses which promotes anonymity as their emotions are obscured, but yet denotes their position of
power and authority. According to Zimbardo (2000) these conditions of deindividuation allow for the
facilitation of evil. Subsequently it becomes acceptable to enforce measures which degrade prisoners
of their self respect, including being stripped, deloused and ordered to carry a chain around their
ankle, whilst the mandatory wearing of a smock and a cap made from a stocking demoralized them as
it impacted upon their masculinity. Additionally, not only were prisoners assigned a number by which

  • 2. Essay about Phobias Explained Many people claim to be afraid of spiders, but probably not to the degree of 37 year old Mary Muffet of Seattle. Mary went to many lengths to be spider free, including sealing her windows and doors with duct tape, spraying her car with bug killer, and putting every single piece of washed and ironed clothing into its own sealed plastic bag. She wasn t just afraid of spiders; she had arachnophobia, a phobia, not to be confused with a simple fear. Phobias are not simple; they are complex in both their origin and diagnosis, with many types that people suffer from and any number of treatments exist to date. What is a phobia? Phobias are described as a persistent, irrational fear of an object, activity or situation that compels a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What causes a phobia? There is currently insufficient research in the field of phobias to determine a definite, clear cause. What is known is that phobias are common in children and do not represent an abnormality. Phobias can start in childhood or adulthood. Some people have suddenly become terrified of things they ve been doing for years, somewhat like a flight attendant that suddenly begins to have panic attacks on her 500th flight. In most cases, phobias are thought to branch from a confrontation with the feared object or situation. Six of every ten persons who suffer phobias are able to remember when the fear crisis occurred for the first time, i.e., when the sensation of panic became attached to the place or situation where it first happened (Masci, 2002, p.2). Most phobias do not interfere with an individual s normal functioning to the point of seeking treatment. There is usually no family history of mental illness or of the same phobia. For example, a person with claustrophobia (fear of being in small enclosed spaces such as an elevator) does not necessarily have a relative that is mentally ill or is also claustrophobic. Most simple phobias develop in childhood and eventually go away. Ones that remain rarely go away without treatment. There are theories that some phobias occur more naturally than others. It is thought that they are somehow built into the brain. Many experiments with monkeys display this particular theory. Shown videos of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Research Paper On Venus Transit The transit of Venus, seen from Earth as a small, dark disk crossing over the sun, is one of the rarest astronomical events to ever witness. If you missed it back in 2012 then chances are you ll never see it again in your lifetime. In order for the transit to happen, Venus orbit has to align just right so that the planet is positioned exactly between the Earth and the sun. The transit has helped astronomers learn more about Venus atmosphere, the width of the sun, the size of the solar system, and it has helped to figure out exactly how long an astronomical unit (AU) is. Different filters on telescopes were used to capture the different lights emitted from the sun during the Venus transit. A white light telescope filtered only to decrease ... • 4. Dehumanization And How It Affects The History Of Psychology Abstract Despite dehumanization being an important phenomenon in social psychology, it has been neglected by some philosophers. It has extensive ramifications for moral philosophy. Study of dehumanization in psychological aspects is very crucial as it has implications for diverse areas as conceptions of what is humanity, notions of racism and race, genocide and war. This paper will analyze slavery on concepts of dehumanization and how it affected the history of psychology. Works of various prominent figures in the history of psychology will be analyzed, and their implications put forth. The paper will further discuss and analyze how an individual s concepts contribute to the development of the modern psychology and how their ideas are employed in the contemporary society. Introduction In the 17th century, the colonists in both North America and Caribbean regarded and treated African slaves merely as subhuman creatures. An Anglican clergyman of that period studied the aspects of slavery and how that influenced the African Americans. He observed that slavery had three fundamental components of dehumanization. The main concern was the association between the appearances of the slaves and their actual or real nature; they believed that the Africans only resembled human beings but were not human beings. The second concern was attributed to the dehumanized population human essence; the colonialists believed that the African lacked human essence. Finally, the colonialists ... • 5. The Role Of Aristocratic Women In The Tudor Period When looking at much of Tudor History especially at the earlier reigns of Henry VII and his successor Henry VIII many historians have neglected to explore the agency of women in this period. More specifically the agency of women in the aristocracy is something that can be heavily debated. Aristocratic women in the Tudor period while often presented as side actors who get acted upon are were actually dynamic individuals who forged their own paths. When looking at these women it is important to analyze it in terms of their religion, family, and social position. Through much of my research I found that these dynamic women had complex motives and reasoning behind most of their actions. It is also important to note that many of these women who did not always have the agency they wanted were being constrained by either their wealth, family, or social position. The day to day and struggles of an aristocratic women s early life greatly deferred from those of the more common women and for this reason the case of their agency is wholly different. When analyzing the autonomy of aristocratic women of the Tudor period it is impossible to overlook Anne Boleyn and her rise and fall to power. It is important to analyze how her family the Boleyn s as well as the Howards shaped her life but also the way she shaped theirs. Some historians say that you can t look at Anne as an example as the agency of an aristocratic women because she was queen of England. This is not necessarily true as she ... • 7. BUSN WK6 Assignment Analysis BUSN WK6 ASSIGNMENT The main approach would be for the board to provide a strategic plan set in place for the nonprofit organization and its mission. Once the funds have been allocated, it is the responsibility of the CEO/Executive Director to see that those funds are applied as assigned. All funds disbursed for day to day operations, weekly and monthly are tallied. If the forecast for a certain program was over estimated, the CEO/Executive Director can inform the board and suggest other avenues for unassigned funds. It also presents itself in the form of first hand knowledge, like being on the front line and reporting back to headquarters of the current positions. CEO/Executive Directors in the nonprofit sector are focused and balanced at the same time for maximum success. Someone has to stand up and demand that a way of thinking or a set of laws be changed. The term activist means a doctrine or practice that emphasizes direct vigorous action especially in support of or opposition to one side of a controversial issue. It has been shown in research that palmitic acid increases LDL cholesterol levels in parallel to total cholesterol levels. [30] Myristic acid has also been shown in two studies conducted in the 1960 s to raise cholesterol concentration. [9, 10] The study conducted by Hegsted et al. suggested that myristic acid raises cholesterol concentrations even higher than palmitic. Unlike palmitic and myristic, stearic acid is a SFA that has shown not to raise cholesterol levels. [7, 9] It was proposed by Keys et al. to subtract stearic acid from the total saturated when calculating serum cholesterol response, but the equation was rarely used by following studies. More recent studies, if using Keys et al. equation, could produce results more indicative of the true negatives of saturated fat intake in regards to CVD risk and incidence. In the 2014 meta analysis, individual fatty acids were examined to determine the degree to which it will influence CVD risk factors and incidence. The SFA stearic acid was found to have the highest positive correlation with CVD risk and incidence, followed by palmitic and oleic. • 16. Repercussions Of Revenge In Hamlet The Repercussions of Revenge Revenge is shown throughout Shakespeare s play Hamlet, leaving the destruction of human relationships in its wake. The act of vengeance is usually a violent act against someone as a result of something they directly or indirectly did. This can be seen in The Tragedy of Hamlet; Prince of Denmark with Hamlet s plan to murder Claudius for the death of his father, King Hamlet, and Laertes similar plan to murder Hamlet for the death of his father, Polonius. When someone is attempting to seek retribution against someone else, it results in that person deceiving the people they love to further progress their intentions. Because of revenge, ones suffering increases due to the continuous loss of relationships with your love ones. Revenge could even put you in a situation that could risk your own life. Throughout Shakespeare s play, William Shakespeare demonstrated how revenge leads to a path of deceit and despair. In the play, Hamlet shows how revenge can turn someone towards the dark side of life. This could be anywhere from lying and deceiving your loved ones to murdering helpless bystanders; all in order to further their own goal. Prior to Hamlet finding proof about what the ghost said, how Claudius murdered his father, he decided that if what he was told was true he would go down the path of vengeance to honor his father s memories. Hamlet started to lie to everyone he loved about his true intentions, so no one would suspect him attempting to kill the new king. He did this by tricking Polonius, Ophelia s father and King Claudius s advisor, into believing that the reason he was acting very strange was because he was terribly in love with Ophelia. In act two scene one, Ophelia exclaimed to her father that Hamlet acted as if he had been tossed out of hell... to speak of horrors he comes before me. Polonius responded by asking Mad for thy love? (93 95). Hamlet has succeeded in lying to everyone in the kingdom about why he is so depressed and confused by Polonius stating mad for thy love. This policy also protects student prayers at public school related events such as praying over public school intercoms, at assemblies, and sporting events. In addition, the policy allows students to openly discuss their faith with classrooms and permits students to establish organizations such as a bible club. Likewise Zimbardo s (1971) experiment, studying the way prisoners and guards interacted, demonstrated similar ethical failings, such as consent gained without individuals being made fully aware of the involvements; physical, emotional and psychological harm subjected; violation of rights, including privacy, respect, confidentiality and the ability to withdraw (). Fascinated by the volume of ordinary individuals who executed terrible things to others during WWII, Zimbardo predicted that all people, even the good, had the potential to conduct malevolence when sited in the correct environment (Haney et al, 1973). In a mock prison participants were recruited to play a role, half as prisoners and the rest as guards. Both were dressed accordingly, with the guards wearing a uniform with mirrored sunglasses which promotes anonymity as their emotions are obscured, but yet denotes their position of power and authority. According to Zimbardo (2000) these conditions of deindividuation allow for the facilitation of evil. Subsequently it becomes acceptable to enforce measures which degrade prisoners of their self respect, including being stripped, deloused and ordered to carry a chain around their ankle, whilst the mandatory wearing of a smock and a cap made from a stocking demoralized them as it impacted upon their masculinity.
