Tess Essay
Tess Durbeyfield is a victim of both external and internal forces. Passive and yielding, unsuspicious
and fundamentally pure, she suffers a weakness of will and reason, struggling against a fate that is too
strong for her to overcome. Tess falls victim to circumstance, society, and male idealism. Tess may be
unable to overcome these apparent difficulties is destroyed by her ravaging self destructive sense of
guilt, life denial and the cruelty of two men.
It is primarily the death of the horse, Prince, the Durbeyfield s main source of livelihood that
commences the web of circumstance that envelops Tess. The imagery at this point in the novel shows
how distraught and guilt ridden Tess is as she places her hand upon Prince s wound in a ... Show more

After this sexual violation and corruption of innocence, Tess flees home. Although she has escaped the
trap of the sexually rapacious Alec for the time being, her circumstance is similar to that of a wounded
animal, her blood of innocence has been released. At this time Hardy gives reference to Shakespeare s
The Rape of Lucrece, where the serpent hisses the sweet birds song . Tess is undoubtedly a victim of
male idealism and society. Her lack of understanding over such matters only increases the guilt that
already embodies her. To add further to her shame she chances upon a holy man who paints exerts
from the bible around the countryside. In red accusatory letters she reads THY, DAMNATION,
SLUMBERETH, NOT and is horrified to think how relevant it is to her recent misfortunes. Tess at
this stage is a victim to her own self conscience; she becomes a recluse trapped within her home,
while in reality she has broken no law of nature.
Returning to work in the field, Tess witnesses the rabbits forced further into shelter as the cornrows in
which they dwell are reaped. This is symbolic of Tess s own situation as she is being separated little
by little from family and friends and more importantly from her own childhood innocence. The baby
she has baptized as Sorrow dies, his name being an indication of the anguish that has taken place
within Tess due to the circumstances of his conception. It also epitomizes what is going to take place
in the rest of her sorrowful life.

The Differences Between Civil Litigation Procedure And...
The Differences between Civil Litigation Procedures and Criminal Litigation Procedures: Because the
public has suffered as a result of a crime committed by an individual or group breaking the law, the
United States brings criminal action and they are represented in court by a public official who is
known as, as a district attorney, public prosecutor, or United States Attorney. The jurisdiction of each
court affects the types of crimes that are presented there. Courts that have limited jurisdiction
prosecute lesser crimes (misdemeanors) and courts of general jurisdiction try more serious offenses
(felonies). In civil actions an individual or a group has caused harm to another and they go to court to
seek compensation for the harm caused. The injured party is called the plaintiff and they ask the court
to grant damages in the form of a monetary payment. Some jurisdictions allow for jury to hear the
trial. If neither party requests a jury, the judge renders a judgment after hearing both sides. In civil
actions, the party who brings in action must present a preponderance of evidence.
Steps in a Criminal Procedure:
Arrest: An individual files a complaint with law enforcement, the judge signs the warrant and law
enforcement can then make an arrest. An officer can make an arrest if there is probable cause and a
grand jury must be convened to determine whether to charge or indict the alleged criminal perpetrator.
Bail: After the accused is taken into custody, the court may

How Did W B Yeats Contribution To Irish Nationalism
The aim of this thesis is to concentrate on those poems of W.B. Yeats which deal with Irish
Nationalism. His poems intimately connect history and literature. The MLA 7th edition format has
been used in writing this thesis.
Nationalism is a doctrine invented in Europe in the beginning of the nineteenth century. It pretends to
supply the criterion for the determination of the unit of population proper to enjoy a government
exclusively of its own, for the legitimate exercise of power in the state for the rights, organization, of a
society, of states. Briefly, the doctrine holds that humanity is naturally divided into nations, that
nations are known by certain characteristics which can be ascertained, and that the only legitimate
type of government is national self government. (Kedourie 9) The nation state is the focus of
nationalism. Nationalism is a sentiment and an ideology. Nationalist sentiment means giving primacy
to national interest above all interests. Nationalist ideology may be defined as a desire of a group
people living in a particular geographical area to become an independent nation by evolving their own
language, symbol, flag and declaring national festivals, and people living in that area following these
rules. It is about loyalty towards the nation and if the nation is under colonial rule then the national
movement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yeats contribution to Irish nationalism is literary. He took part in political activities but through his
writings he tried to revive a sense of pride among the people of Ireland. He wanted Irish literature to
have its unique place among the literature of other languages. During his youth, he wrote poems to
arouse nationalistic feelings, to revive a glorious past and heroic days and to protest against the
atrocities inflicted on the Irishmen by the British. But later on, due to bitter experiences, he became a
realist and his poetry was patriotic but universal in theme. His view of the world matured in his later

(Hayter, 2011)Indeed workers have had very few rights, although China in response to adverse
publicity have introduced some minimum labour laws (Hollingshead, 2010)
The Scandinavian approach embraced by Sweden is strongly Pluralist (Hollingshead, 2010) which
guarantees freedom of association and is backed by the Swedish constitution. Additionally collective
bargaining agreements play a major role in the employment relationship, with trade unions enjoying a
very strong voice in Sweden (Xpert HR, 2014). In comparison to the UK, Sweden takes its workers
rights very seriously and many employee benefits are legally enforceable, this along with laws
protecting the rights of trade union members provide significant security and benefits for workers
(Work.Sweden.Se, 2014). Additionally Sweden has extremely centralised and organised trade Union
organisations with a particularly high level of union density, its highly egalitarian society having low
levels of economic inequality but with high levels of state expenditure. (Upchurch et al, 2009). Mutual
respect is the norm between trade unions and employers and with close links with political parties,
however rigid labour laws can inhibit Foreign Investment. (State.Gov, 2012)
On the other hand, the UK adopts a voluntarist approach to employment regulation and avoids direct
intervention in employment relations, unlike Sweden, trade unions no longer

Oak Park Township s Potential Trend Equation
1 Introduction This report presents projections of Oak Park Township s population for the year 2030.
These projections were done by three methods such as the following: allocation, trend extrapolation,
and cohort component. These projected processes and results can be elaborated by methods in the
following sections. 2 Population Projection Methods 2.1 Allocation Allocation, this method uses larger
region s population or projections and percentage of population of a smaller area in the larger region
to estimate smaller area s population. Oak Park Township is located in Cook County, so the first step
is to obtain the most recent population of Cook County and Oak Park Township and the projected
population of Cook County in 2030. According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, using the population of each five year cohort in 2000, we projected the population excluding
migration in 2010. Comparing the census and projected population in 2010, the10 year migration rates
were estimated. So, with the migration rates, the migration of 2030 could be projected. Due to the
projected births, deaths and migration in 2030, the projected population of Oak park Township in 2030
was shown in following Table 4. Comparatively speaking, the allocation and trend extrapolation
methods require less data and simply assume current distributions and the trend will continue.
However, the cohort component method relies on more data and assumptions than the others. It can be
rationally projected. That is to say, if obtaining the data and assumptions is not difficult, the cohort
component could provide a reliable projection. 3 Conclusion The results of the projected population of
Oak Park Township in 2030 by different methods were distinctly shown in Table 6. These projections
have quite a bit of difference. According to the above comparison of three methods, the cohort
component should be the reliable one. In conclusion, the population of Oak Park Township is likely to
see a reduction, compared with 2010. The population is projected from 51,878 to 45,187, a decrease of

Narrative Essay On Waiting On God
Dreaming with God is a beautiful gift from Him, and although questions filled my limited mind, my
capacity to comprehend, I owe everything to the Lord whose grace and love abundantly flows. A
series of parabolic dreams and clear visions flooded my sleep nights, and what the Lord apparently
conveyed has created a mixed feeling of excitement and confusion.
Inquisitiveness to understand the mysteries of the night parables led me to dig deeper into His word.
But I couldn t seem to weave the thread together the way it should a sizeable amount of thread was
missing. Prayers for help and wisdom became my expressions and it was in this season of waiting that
I have learned a valuable lesson:
Waiting on God is not a passive move we have to deliberately seek His Word with an attitude of
meekness and rely on the Spirit of God to illuminate hidden things.
One specific dream has baffled me for a long time.
Looking at these two kinds of trees in the garden that were parallel to each other has created curiosity
within. The tree on the left was radiantly shining, abundantly flourishing with green foliage and strong
branches, which reflect goodness and vitality. The other tree on the right was the exact opposite, dead
and wilted, and not one leaf on the branches remains. While gazing on these two trees, trying to
analyze what I was seeing, I heard a voice that said the word nation .
The sound of this voice woke me up mystified. I prayed and sought the meaning of this dream,

Preliminary Ruling Procedures
Enforcing the European Union legal system is diverse and done on multiple platforms; through not
only actions taken against member states for breach of their obligations, but also, for example, through
the use of direct effect1. Article 267 TFEU; an organism devised to practice private enforcement of
EU law before national courts, has been critical to ensure uniform interpretation and application of EU
law in member states. References for preliminary rulings occur when the national courts are presented
with a question of EU law due to uncertainty of the provision. The national court will therefore make a
reference to the Court of Justice (COJ) to obtain a preliminary ruling on any point of EU law relevant
to the proceedings 2. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under Art. 267, only court or tribunal of a member state may initiate preliminary reference to the ECJ,
however through succeeding case law this has been expanded by allowing entities whose members
may not be judges, provided that those entities have the power to adjudicate disputes 12. This concept
of a court or tribunal has been interpreted widely as it is a matter of union law13. The Advocate
General in De Coster14 criticised the court s approach and criteria to the interpretation as he deemed it
confusing. The court in this instance accepted the reference, as it was a permanent body established in
law, that it gives legal rulings and that the jurisdiction is compulsory 15. The court in further cases has
treated tribunals as not only tax appeal like in the case above but also; customs, social security and
immigration.
Despite the president of the ECJ optimism concerning caseload, there are still many issues present.
For example, the commission celebrates reducing the average duration of proceedings, however fails
to note the employment of 10 judges. There has been a dramatic rise in the number of cases since the
first referral in 1961, increasing from 1 to 38516. This is the highest level in the history of the ECJ.
Critics argue that this heavy workload has an adverse impact on the

Why Is Lying Acceptable
Is Lying Acceptable? Getting people to tell the truth can never be easy, but lying can never be as easy
either. Lying will never solve anything, you should always take responsibility for your consequences.
In some cases, lying can be okay, on the other hand lying was never what so ever justified. Telling the
truth would be better, though more times lying is just easier and causes people from getting hurt. It can
also be hard to get people to face the truth sometimes. Lying can be acceptable when protecting
someone s feelings.
To begin with, lying to keep someone from harm or from hurting their feelings can sometimes be
acceptable. In the AP lpsos, percent of those questioned said it was sometimes OK to lie to avoid
hurting someone s feelings, even though 52 percent said lying, overall, was never justified
(NBCNEWS, 2006). People who say lying is wrong are often in abstract. Very little of people would
admit to thinking it is ok to lie on a resume.
Not to mention, lying can make people not believe you or not trust you as much anymore once they
find out. Every single lie has its cost, (NBCNEWS, 2006). People tell all kinds of lies every day to
protect someone s feelings and most of the times lies are just told in different ways. They ... Show

Viterbo University Student Analysis

sparked an interest in becoming one on my own. Third, my father s side of the family has always had
a bad history of health problems. My father is trying to overcome this barrier through changes in his

life is something I know I want to do. Additionally, my great uncle, Donald McFarland, recently
moved back to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin (my hometown) from Arizona. He has had diabetes for a

someone who is diagnosed with diabetes, and he was not giving himself his regular insulin shots.
After going into a nursing home, his so called dementia started to go away. When he comes over for
family gatherings, such as Thanksgiving, we can all tell if he has had sweets or his insulin shot that
day. It is so mind blowing to me how a simple diet change is essentially what is changing

what we generally read when taught about American History. His effort is to explain how each of the
different Latino groups came. What was happening in their home towns that caused them to leave. If
people want to accept it, eventually they will have to. That this country is bound to go through an
enormous Latino population explosion. Gonzalez writes Mexican Americans meanwhile, face a
frustrating identity problem like that of Puerto Ricans (pg97). Being a Mexican American myself I
could agree that it is at times frustrating identifying. We are either too American to be Mexican. Or too

Thematic content analysis was used in order to be able to draw conclusions from the qualitative data
from the interviews and document review (DeSantis Noel Ugarriza, 2000). Qualitative content
analysis is defined as: a research method for the subjective interpretation of the content of text data
through the systematic classification process of coding and identifying themes or patterns (Hsieh
Shannon, 2005, p.1278). This means that the data input is evaluated to search for patterns that extend
across the data and coded into categories in order to develop data interpretations (Vaismoradi,
Turunen, Bondas, 2013). For this purpose ATLAS.ti was used to analyse the qualitative data findings.
Codes were first prepared in accordance with the theoretical framework (for this framework see
Appendix B) (Braun Clarke, 2006). ATLAS.ti was used for assigning open codes as well as to create
coding memos. Codes and themes were analysed and related to theory formulation (see Appendix C
for the code book that was used in ATLAS.ti) (for a review and practical guide to using qualitative
data analysis see Hwang, 2008). For each code, an output was created. This output consists of a file in
which all the quotations of a certain code to be put one after the other, these are the passages that are

Marxist Reading Of A Doll s House
Since the love of money appears to be a strong characteristic in Nora, usually the decisions that she
takes are on the base of the influence of getting economic benefits. Nora borrows money secretly and
with forgery (by any mean) from someone in order to afford a trip to Italy to help Helmer when he
was sick; she works hard to pay for the loan. Here, an evidence of a Marxist characteristic appears.
While talking with Kristine about the consequences of the allowance she has and the trip, Nora says,
How lovely to think of that, Kristine! Carefree! To know that you are carefree, utterly carefree (. . .) it
is so marvelous to live and be happy! (Ibsen 1718). It is evident that Nora associates the acquisition of
wealth with freedom and the only way to be happy. In addition, it gives the Helmers another status
within the social order since they did not have enough money at the beginning. At this point of the
play, she thinks that money can make her happy, but at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Two elements are important in his perception of society. The first one is the repeated idea of the
relationship between freedom and money. When Nora suggests Helmer to borrow money in case they
need more, he replies exaltedly, No debts! Never borrow! Something of freedom s lost and something
of beauty, too from a home that s founded on borrowing and debt (Ibsen 1711). He evidently thinks
that the independence of someone has its base in the economic solvency. The second element is the
steadiness that riches cause in their daily life. The attitude in which Helmer talks about his new job is
interesting, he says to Nora, It s so gratifying to know that one s gotten a safe, secure job, and with a
comfortable salary (Ibsen 1712), Helmer words reflect that his happiness relays on the assurance of
material things. Therefore, both elements reflect again the Marxist tenet that relationships are
undermined by economic

Rock Hard Abs Research Paper
.Doing crnches or working on an ab machine will get rid of belly fat.
You have to work out all the surrounding areas to tighten up and most likely change the existing eating
habits to a healthier diet. I think the media pushes this myth because a lot of people want to think its
that simple and they will buy what ever machine or exercise plan that claims to give you rock hard abs
. One note that needs to be added to this myth is that you cannot just work out your abs and see results
abs are a very difficult area of muscle to visually achieve and it takes more diet and work all around
since they are located in the center of the body. You have to burn fat to see the muscle underneath.
2. When it comes to working out, you ve got to feel some pain if you re going to gain any benefits.
no pain no gain This is a dangerous quote to feed off of. It shouldn t hurt to workout or exercise and if
it does then there is something wrong or an underlying issue that needs to be addressed before

The Rights And Roles Of Women
The rights and roles of women in Chinese society have gone through drastic changes over the past
couple centuries. From the age of foot binding to communism today, women have had to adjust
repeatedly to the changing values and customs of China. Women have been bound by obedience and
traditions. From centuries ago, men have been considered the core of the family. Early records of
women only exist to indicate the problems they created for men. Confucius greatly influenced the role
of women in their family. He emphasized family virtues like filial piety. Women s roles were mostly
kinship roles: wife, mother, sister, daughter, daughter in law, and mother in law. These roles
established that women had to go with the wishes and needs of the closely related men. Women had to
listen to their father when young, their husbands after marriage, and sons after husband s death.
Chinese women have had to go through male dominance from birth and fail to receive proper
treatment in both social and physical aspects. However, in the rise of the new century drastic changes
are seen in the treatment and roles of Chinese women. The harshness and cruelty of Chinese society
on females is seen throughout China s history up till the mid 1950s when Mao demanded equality.
During the late 19th and early 20th century many girls from poor families were disposed of by their
parents or guardians who either were unwilling or unable to spend their resources on a female. They
were either brought as servants

The Importance Of Electronic Mass Communication
Web 2.0 environments stand to have a profound impact on social practices (Bruns, 2013, page 117)
iPhones have a way of removing people from conversations that they may be physically present for.
Again, the phone pulls people away from their surroundings, so while they are physically there in a
room full of people, mentally they are not. They are disengaged from the real conversation, wrapped
up in the virtual discussions taking place on the phone. One quote from George Lipsitz in his article
Popular Culture that I think works well here is the powerful apparatuses of contemporary commercial
electronic mass communications dominate the discourse in the modern world. (Lipsitz, 2013, page 46)
The iPhone has changed the way in which people communicate with each other, the things we choose
to speak about, and the way in which we discuss such topics.
I frequently get frustrated with my roommate when he uses his iPhone, as do many of his friends. The
phone sucks him in, he becomes intrigued with the apps on his phone, scrolling through social media
and non stop texting. His family regularly facetimes him, usually at the most inconvenient times like
while in the car, during a movie, or at the grocery store. I have found that sometimes I think I am
having a conversation with him and realize he is not heard a single word I have said because he is too
zoned into his phone. If you ask him a question while he is using his phone, he usually will answer 5
minutes later, if at all, but

to the police: ʻWhat if this is the price one has to pay for staying on? ... They see me as owing
something. They see themselves as debt collectors, tax collectors. Why should I be allowed to live
here without paying? Perhaps that is what they tell themselves (158). As suggested by Barnard, Lucy
is accept[ing] her fate as a symbol of the redistribution of power in post apartheid Africa and sees her
rapists as gathering apartheid debts , as her attackers were black (Barnard 74). Lucy also says that her
decision to stay silent is Freedom of speech. Freedom to remain silent (Coetzee 188). With this
reasoning, she is silencing herself as a rape victim and accepting the consequences of the attack by
deciding to keep one of the attackers children she becomes pregnant with , in addition to marry her

to act solely in the interests of another person, group or business. Failing to uphold these duties may

Discuss The Argyle Communication Cycle Theory
The Argyle s Communication Cycle Theory:
The Argyle s communication cycle theory is process commonly used in the health and social care
sector to explain how communication can be effective, this is a theory in which can enable a person to
understand what is being said or wrote, and to be able to respond to the conversation appropriately.
This theory has six stages and these include;
Stage one of the Argyle is when the idea is thought of by the communicator, and include them to adapt
their words and expressions to match the audience the conversation is for; e.g. the elderly; we may
have to talk louder as some elderly people (Or some young people/adults with hearing

fewer words, the body language used should be calm and inviting and voices should be calm and
gentle rather than tense, or even a work colleague; will need to have clear communication together in

Symbols and Imagery in F. Scott Ftizgerald s The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald is known for his use of symbols and imagery throughout The Great Gatsby to
illustrate his many ideas and themes. The green light is a symbol that seems to pervade the novel,
taking on many meanings. The image of the green light is presented in Chapter 1, as Gatsby extended
his arms to the single green light at Daisy s dock as if it were some sort of religious icon. Jordan also
confirms this sense of idolization when she says that Gatsby bought [his] house so that Daisy would
be just across the bay, suggesting his obsessive devotion to Daisy (77). As shown in Chapter 9, the
green light can also be interpreted as a symbol of growth. Near the end of the novel, Fitzgerald
illustrates Daisy s dock transforming into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel, Fitzgerald manages to criticize the Jazz age society with the use of imagery. Gatsby
views his car, a flamboyant Rolls Royce, as a display of his wealth; however its rich cream color,
swollen in its monstrous length, and terraced with a labyrinth of windshields, makes the automobile
seem outrageous rather than stunning and impressive (64). However, Gatsby s automobile transforms
into a death car when in the hands of Daisy, as she murders Myrtle Wilson. Similarly, Wilson s garage
having only a dust covered wreck of a Ford, characterizes Wilson himself in the Valley of ashes (25).
Additionally, the seemingly violent car accident at Gatsby s party in Chapter 3 foreshadows Myrtle s
death in Chapter 7. Fitzgerald s use of cars assists in personifying Gatsby s tendency to be excessive
and tasteless, Daisy s cruel insensitivity, and Wilson s misery and lifelessness. Fitzgerald s vivid
description of various settings is not only used to enrich the novel, but also to criticize American
society of the 1920 s. Nick states that behind New York s wild promise of all the mystery and beauty
of the world lies corruption and vulgarity, as small rooms are tastelessly furnished with ostentatious
furniture (68). As seen in Chapter 2, the setting of New York itself is where Tom strikes Myrtle and
[breaks] her nose with his open hand . This not only reveals the imprudence of the upper class, but
also their disposition to smash things up . Also, the

How Technology Has Developed And Integrated Systems Of...
I have always been fascinated by the magnificent way humans have developed and integrated systems
of people, money, knowledge, information and energy. Growing up, I was incredibly curious to
unravel how devices function, and this curiosity developed into a burning desire to learn how
processes, systems, and organizations operate and run our world.
From an early age I used to read science books, journals, magazines and watch engineering
documentaries driven by my eagerness to gain a better understanding of the mechanism by which our
world system is working.
I completed my Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering, the program was a blend of mathematics,
operation management, lean manufacturing, quality control and engineering economics applications.
All through my Bachelor program, I was attracted to the idea of developing a more effective technique
to generate power of the solar system using smart technology.
Driven by a desire to tackle the global warming phenomenon, I decided to carry out my final year
project work on a solar power generation device, where I came up with an innovative method and
designed a dual axis model which used the solar power to operate and produce renewable energy with
improved efficiency. Whilst pursuing my Bachelor degree I worked for Rimth Company LTD, a
contracting and trading private company, for three years.
While working as a Project Manager Assistant, I provided advice which contributed to shaping
multiple projects objectives, and my

Hultgren Construction Collapse Case Study
Summary: On December 2nd around 10:30 a.m., a building in downtown Sioux Falls, South Dakota
collapsed. Fear stuck the hearts of many as they heard the deafening collapse of a downtown building
on 10th Street and Phillips Avenue. Many first responders and police quickly moved to try and find
survivors. Hundreds of people waited for survivors to be pulled out from the debris. Cheers erupted
when three hours after the collapse, firefighters found Emily Fodness alive underneath the rubble.
Sadly, Ethan McMahon, a construction worker, was found dead underneath the rubble almost five and
a half hours after Emily was rescued. Hultgren Construction is under investigation for causing the
collapse.

There was many things that happened as a result of this building collapse and many things will happen

building to close down as there were fears that the surrounding buildings damaged from the rubble

Global Warming
Global warming is a big problem and impacts our environment in a negative way because it is heating
the Earth. Global warming impacts all of the life around us even though not many people recognize it.
There are many problems that global warming will make to our environment and it has already
impacted it over time. Although, there are many problems, there are also solutions to stop global
warming. Climate change is most closely related to global warming and many scientists have found
ways to try and put a stop to it.
One of the biggest problems of global warming is the global climate change that is occurring. Some
examples of how it is changing is that temperatures are rising and have ... Show more content on

Global warming also causes intense weather and weather patterns. When the ocean water heats up,
then that means it will create hurricanes and as the Earth continues to heat up then it will make even
stronger hurricanes over time. Hurricanes are increasing because in some ocean basins, hurricane
intensification has been linked to rising ocean temperatures (Global Warming Impacts). Other times of
weather that can occur in some areas are flooded because of excess precipitation. Excess precipitation
can be a bad thing because flooding is destroying a lot of things, for example military bases near the
coast. Wildfires are beginning to occur more often now since the Earth is heating up which is a
disaster because that affects plants and animals. If wildfires occur, then many forests will die and that
will pollute the air even more. `
There are a few solutions to stop global warming and the most common one is to reduce the burning
of fossil fuels. Whenever people use an automobile, a car, bus, or plane, then that is polluting the air,
which will warm the Earth because the ozone layer is getting destroyed. Although many people have
to have transportation, if they cut down on their driving or got more energy efficient cars then it would
help a lot. The car that you buy is a very important factor because each gallon of gas you use is
responsible for 25 pounds of heat trapping gases in the atmosphere (Ten). Whenever people burn fossil
fuels it creates

Assessments are integral parts of instruction, they determine whether classroom goals have been
achieved, and help teachers know what areas they should focus on and maybe reteach. They are great
tools for developing lesson plans and answer questions such as; do my students possess full
understanding of the material? There are many ways of assessing students learning, one of which I
have personal experience with are on the spot assessments. On the spot assessment is a method of
gathering on the spot information when observing students while they work independently or in
groups. (reference pg. 222) While working as a pre k teacher I had access to ATI Galileo Pre k, this is
an assessment technology that provides assessments, and curriculum. The program provided a list of
learning objectives under several different learning scales. It was our job to do on the spot assessments
based on our observation list to document individual child s progress. We would then input the
assessments to the system and the program would develop a lesson plan based on what each child had
learned. It would also provide specialized activities for children that were ahead or behind the

Kidneys Filter Our Blood
Kidneys work rapidly throughout the day filtering out the toxic wastes that go through the body. The
kidneys filter about 180 liters of blood per day. That is three liters getting filtered 60 times per day.
But my question is does having diabetes and hypertension affect the filtration rate in the kidneys?
In the body the kidneys perform the task of filtering out the toxic wastes from the bloodstream and
then returning the clean blood back into the body for reabsorption. According to the University of
Michigan The kidneys perform the essential function of removing waste products from the blood and
regulating the water fluid levels. The kidneys will collect toxic blood from the renal artery, and from
there the blood enters through a passageway of nephrons where the toxins are cycled out through a
series of structures.
The blood will first enter into the Bowman s Capsule. The Bowman s Capsule is an expansion of a
closed end to a renal tubule found in the cortex. Kent M. Van De Graff studies showed that In the
Bowman s Capsule the blood gets filtered through however; it only lets smaller particles through.
Particles as big as red blood cells or that have a molecular mass greater than 69,000 can not travel
through the Bowmans Capsule and get reabsorbed into the bloodstream. From there the toxins and
blood travel into the proximal tubule. In the proximal convoluted tubule that we reabsorb most of the
materials that we need to reabsorb from the filtrate. The reabsorption of

Explain The Rome Statute Of The International Criminal Court
The Rome statute of the international criminal court is a treaty that establishes the courts jurisdictions
and regulations. Article 21 of the International Criminal Court is the first article to describe which
laws and treaties will be applicable to the courts. Since there are many states that are participating in
this treaty it becomes very difficult to have very specific laws and regulations for the court since there
is a variety of situations that can happen. An important statement is that any international law must be
consistent with the Statute before anything, thus giving the power to the ICC statute to be the starting
point of any application of laws. The court has to respect the laws within the different states before

States with the Most Gun Violence www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation More than two thirds of all
homicides in the United States are gun related. Arizona is ranked the eleventh worst state. Nearly
36,000 people died in gun related incidents in 2013. This is an increase of 13.8% in the past ten years.
The CDC keeps track of all gun related deaths for each state. Fatalities include homicide, suicide, and
accidents. While gun laws are uniform across the United States, none of the states with the most gun
violence require an individual to have a permit to buy rifles, shotguns, or handguns. The owners are
not required to register their guns either in any of these states. This is valuable because it shows that
the worst states for gun violence are due to having uniform laws when clearly they don t. These states
don t require anything for people to get a gun. Arizona is on this list. What is our world coming to?

America, the home of the brave and land of the free. The national anthem states this and the media
attempts to portray it to the fullest. The term mass incarceration describes the increasing rate of
imprisonment in the United States of America. The media coverage of mass incarceration differs,
some argue that this term is simply an exaggerated theory, while others believe mass incarceration has
become embedded in our society as a repeat of historical injustices. Dorothy E Roberts, social justice
advocate and American scholar, wrote an article The Social and Moral Cost of Mass Incarceration in
African American Communities, discussing the social and moral effects of mass incarceration on
African American communities. Roberts writes radical changes in crime control and sentencing

The Psychographic segmentation is based on social class, lifestyle, or personality characteristics. This
type of segmentation can be viewed as the stylistic restaurant Olive Garden. The marketing strategy
behind this restaurant is based upon how customers are as interested in emotional nourishment as they

Another concept that relates to Darden s style of marketing is how they differentiate and position their

How Human Brain Works Essay
How the Human Brain Works
The human brain is one of the most amazing organs in a body and at the same time the most
mysterious. It is the control center of the body and it s important to understand the complexity of the
human brain. Although your brain functions as a whole, it consists of three main parts, The Central
Core, the Limbic System, and the Cerebral Cortex. Then those parts break into even smaller parts. The
brain is just like the computer, it depends on certain parts to work correctly and get every day jobs and
even more complex jobs done.
The Central Core The Central Core is the first of the three main parts of the brain. It is also broken up

The Limbic system is separated in three parts, the Hippocampus, the Amygdala, and the
Hypothalamus. The Hippocampus s role is controlling emotion, learning, and memory; while the
Amygdala controls aggression, eating, drinking, and sexual behaviors. Then you have the
Hypothalamus which monitors the blood levels of glucose, salt, blood pressure, and hormones. It also
helps to control the processes in the body through its connection to the central and autonomic nervous
systems and endocrine system.
The Cerebral Cortex
The Cerebral Cortex directs the brain s higher cognitive and emotional functions. It is divided into two
equal halves called cerebral hemispheres. Each hemisphere has the same four areas called lobes. Areas
in the lobes control all forms of conscious experience, perception, emotion, thought, and planning, as
well as many unconscious and emotional processes. The frontal lobe helps in motor control and
cognitive activities, like planning, making decisions, setting goals, and relating the present to the
future through purpose. The parietal lobe controls the sensory process, spatial interpretation, attention,
and language understanding. The occipital lobe controls the process of visual information and passes
its conclusions to the parietal and temporal lobes. This leads me to the temporal lobe which assists in
auditory perception, language comprehension, and visual recognition.

The pendulum s point of contact is instrumented, with a readout of forces electronically recorded in
millisecond detail [Figure 1].
A piece of modern high quality steel was tested along with the coupon from the hull steel. Both
coupons were placed in a bath of alcohol at 1°C to simulate the conditions on the night of the Titanic
disaster. When the coupon of the modern steel was tested, the pendulum swung down and halted with
a thud; the test piece had bent into a V. However, when the coupon of the Titanic steel was tested, the
pendulum struck the coupon with a sharp ping, barely slowed, and continued up on its swing; the
sample, broken into two pieces, sailed across the room [1].
The Rivets: The wrought iron rivets that fastened the hull plates to the Titanic s main structure also
failed because of brittle fracture from the high impact loading of the collision with the iceberg and the
low temperature water on the night of the disaster. With the ship travelling at nearly 25 mph, the
contact with the iceberg was probably a series of impacts that caused the rivets to fail either in shear or
by elongation [2]. As the iceberg scraped along sections of the Titanic s hull, the rivets were sheared
off, which opened up riveted seams. Also, because of the tremendous forces created on impact with
the iceberg, the rivet heads in the areas of contact were simply popped off,

True Identity In King Henry IV By William Shakespeare

Rites Of Passage In The Glass Castle
As we grow older, we develop by passing through the rites of passages. These rites are commonly
portrayed in literary works and in movies. An example of a work that contains the rites of passage
would be The Glass Castle, by Jeannette Walls. This book is a memoir about her life as a child with
parents who could never settle down. She worked herself from the bottom up, and continues to strive

rites of passage, the three most prominent would be loss, risk taking, and achieving a goal. In her

  • 2. Tess Essay Tess Durbeyfield is a victim of both external and internal forces. Passive and yielding, unsuspicious and fundamentally pure, she suffers a weakness of will and reason, struggling against a fate that is too strong for her to overcome. Tess falls victim to circumstance, society, and male idealism. Tess may be unable to overcome these apparent difficulties is destroyed by her ravaging self destructive sense of guilt, life denial and the cruelty of two men. It is primarily the death of the horse, Prince, the Durbeyfield s main source of livelihood that commences the web of circumstance that envelops Tess. The imagery at this point in the novel shows how distraught and guilt ridden Tess is as she places her hand upon Prince s wound in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After this sexual violation and corruption of innocence, Tess flees home. Although she has escaped the trap of the sexually rapacious Alec for the time being, her circumstance is similar to that of a wounded animal, her blood of innocence has been released. At this time Hardy gives reference to Shakespeare s The Rape of Lucrece, where the serpent hisses the sweet birds song . Tess is undoubtedly a victim of male idealism and society. Her lack of understanding over such matters only increases the guilt that already embodies her. To add further to her shame she chances upon a holy man who paints exerts from the bible around the countryside. In red accusatory letters she reads THY, DAMNATION, SLUMBERETH, NOT and is horrified to think how relevant it is to her recent misfortunes. Tess at this stage is a victim to her own self conscience; she becomes a recluse trapped within her home, while in reality she has broken no law of nature. Returning to work in the field, Tess witnesses the rabbits forced further into shelter as the cornrows in which they dwell are reaped. This is symbolic of Tess s own situation as she is being separated little by little from family and friends and more importantly from her own childhood innocence. The baby she has baptized as Sorrow dies, his name being an indication of the anguish that has taken place within Tess due to the circumstances of his conception. It also epitomizes what is going to take place in the rest of her sorrowful life. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Differences Between Civil Litigation Procedure And... The Differences between Civil Litigation Procedures and Criminal Litigation Procedures: Because the public has suffered as a result of a crime committed by an individual or group breaking the law, the United States brings criminal action and they are represented in court by a public official who is known as, as a district attorney, public prosecutor, or United States Attorney. The jurisdiction of each court affects the types of crimes that are presented there. Courts that have limited jurisdiction prosecute lesser crimes (misdemeanors) and courts of general jurisdiction try more serious offenses (felonies). In civil actions an individual or a group has caused harm to another and they go to court to seek compensation for the harm caused. The injured party is called the plaintiff and they ask the court to grant damages in the form of a monetary payment. Some jurisdictions allow for jury to hear the trial. If neither party requests a jury, the judge renders a judgment after hearing both sides. In civil actions, the party who brings in action must present a preponderance of evidence. Steps in a Criminal Procedure: Arrest: An individual files a complaint with law enforcement, the judge signs the warrant and law enforcement can then make an arrest. An officer can make an arrest if there is probable cause and a grand jury must be convened to determine whether to charge or indict the alleged criminal perpetrator. Bail: After the accused is taken into custody, the court may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Did W B Yeats Contribution To Irish Nationalism The aim of this thesis is to concentrate on those poems of W.B. Yeats which deal with Irish Nationalism. His poems intimately connect history and literature. The MLA 7th edition format has been used in writing this thesis. Nationalism is a doctrine invented in Europe in the beginning of the nineteenth century. It pretends to supply the criterion for the determination of the unit of population proper to enjoy a government exclusively of its own, for the legitimate exercise of power in the state for the rights, organization, of a society, of states. Briefly, the doctrine holds that humanity is naturally divided into nations, that nations are known by certain characteristics which can be ascertained, and that the only legitimate type of government is national self government. (Kedourie 9) The nation state is the focus of nationalism. Nationalism is a sentiment and an ideology. Nationalist sentiment means giving primacy to national interest above all interests. Nationalist ideology may be defined as a desire of a group people living in a particular geographical area to become an independent nation by evolving their own language, symbol, flag and declaring national festivals, and people living in that area following these rules. • 6. Oak Park Township s Potential Trend Equation 1 Introduction This report presents projections of Oak Park Township s population for the year 2030. These projections were done by three methods such as the following: allocation, trend extrapolation, and cohort component. These projected processes and results can be elaborated by methods in the following sections. 2 Population Projection Methods 2.1 Allocation Allocation, this method uses larger region s population or projections and percentage of population of a smaller area in the larger region to estimate smaller area s population. Oak Park Township is located in Cook County, so the first step is to obtain the most recent population of Cook County and Oak Park Township and the projected population of Cook County in 2030. According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, using the population of each five year cohort in 2000, we projected the population excluding migration in 2010. Comparing the census and projected population in 2010, the10 year migration rates were estimated. So, with the migration rates, the migration of 2030 could be projected. Due to the projected births, deaths and migration in 2030, the projected population of Oak park Township in 2030 was shown in following Table 4. Comparatively speaking, the allocation and trend extrapolation methods require less data and simply assume current distributions and the trend will continue. However, the cohort component method relies on more data and assumptions than the others. It can be rationally projected. That is to say, if obtaining the data and assumptions is not difficult, the cohort component could provide a reliable projection. 3 Conclusion The results of the projected population of Oak Park Township in 2030 by different methods were distinctly shown in Table 6. These projections have quite a bit of difference. According to the above comparison of three methods, the cohort component should be the reliable one. In conclusion, the population of Oak Park Township is likely to see a reduction, compared with 2010. The population is projected from 51,878 to 45,187, a decrease of 6,691 or 12.9 ... • 7. Narrative Essay On Waiting On God Dreaming with God is a beautiful gift from Him, and although questions filled my limited mind, my capacity to comprehend, I owe everything to the Lord whose grace and love abundantly flows. A series of parabolic dreams and clear visions flooded my sleep nights, and what the Lord apparently conveyed has created a mixed feeling of excitement and confusion. Inquisitiveness to understand the mysteries of the night parables led me to dig deeper into His word. But I couldn t seem to weave the thread together the way it should a sizeable amount of thread was missing. Prayers for help and wisdom became my expressions and it was in this season of waiting that I have learned a valuable lesson: Waiting on God is not a passive move we have to deliberately seek His Word with an attitude of meekness and rely on the Spirit of God to illuminate hidden things. One specific dream has baffled me for a long time. Looking at these two kinds of trees in the garden that were parallel to each other has created curiosity within. The tree on the left was radiantly shining, abundantly flourishing with green foliage and strong branches, which reflect goodness and vitality. The other tree on the right was the exact opposite, dead and wilted, and not one leaf on the branches remains. While gazing on these two trees, trying to analyze what I was seeing, I heard a voice that said the word nation . The sound of this voice woke me up mystified. I prayed and sought the meaning of this dream, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Under Art. 267, only court or tribunal of a member state may initiate preliminary reference to the ECJ, however through succeeding case law this has been expanded by allowing entities whose members may not be judges, provided that those entities have the power to adjudicate disputes 12. This concept of a court or tribunal has been interpreted widely as it is a matter of union law13. The Advocate General in De Coster14 criticised the court s approach and criteria to the interpretation as he deemed it confusing. The court in this instance accepted the reference, as it was a permanent body established in law, that it gives legal rulings and that the jurisdiction is compulsory 15. The court in further cases has treated tribunals as not only tax appeal like in the case above but also; customs, social security and immigration. Despite the president of the ECJ optimism concerning caseload, there are still many issues present. For example, the commission celebrates reducing the average duration of proceedings, however fails to note the employment of 10 judges. Thematic content analysis was used in order to be able to draw conclusions from the qualitative data from the interviews and document review (DeSantis Noel Ugarriza, 2000). Qualitative content analysis is defined as: a research method for the subjective interpretation of the content of text data through the systematic classification process of coding and identifying themes or patterns (Hsieh Shannon, 2005, p.1278). This means that the data input is evaluated to search for patterns that extend across the data and coded into categories in order to develop data interpretations (Vaismoradi, Turunen, Bondas, 2013). For this purpose ATLAS.ti was used to analyse the qualitative data findings. Codes were first prepared in accordance with the theoretical framework (for this framework see Appendix B) (Braun Clarke, 2006). ATLAS.ti was used for assigning open codes as well as to create coding memos. Codes and themes were analysed and related to theory formulation (see Appendix C for the code book that was used in ATLAS.ti) (for a review and practical guide to using qualitative data analysis see Hwang, 2008). Marxist Reading Of A Doll s House Since the love of money appears to be a strong characteristic in Nora, usually the decisions that she takes are on the base of the influence of getting economic benefits. Nora borrows money secretly and with forgery (by any mean) from someone in order to afford a trip to Italy to help Helmer when he was sick; she works hard to pay for the loan. Here, an evidence of a Marxist characteristic appears. While talking with Kristine about the consequences of the allowance she has and the trip, Nora says, How lovely to think of that, Kristine! Carefree! To know that you are carefree, utterly carefree (. . .) it is so marvelous to live and be happy! (Ibsen 1718). It is evident that Nora associates the acquisition of wealth with freedom and the only way to be happy. He evidently thinks that the independence of someone has its base in the economic solvency. The second element is the steadiness that riches cause in their daily life. The attitude in which Helmer talks about his new job is interesting, he says to Nora, It s so gratifying to know that one s gotten a safe, secure job, and with a comfortable salary (Ibsen 1712), Helmer words reflect that his happiness relays on the assurance of material things. • 15. The Rights And Roles Of Women The rights and roles of women in Chinese society have gone through drastic changes over the past couple centuries. From the age of foot binding to communism today, women have had to adjust repeatedly to the changing values and customs of China. Women have been bound by obedience and traditions. From centuries ago, men have been considered the core of the family. Early records of women only exist to indicate the problems they created for men. Confucius greatly influenced the role of women in their family. He emphasized family virtues like filial piety. Women s roles were mostly kinship roles: wife, mother, sister, daughter, daughter in law, and mother in law. These roles established that women had to go with the wishes and needs of the closely related men. Women had to listen to their father when young, their husbands after marriage, and sons after husband s death. Chinese women have had to go through male dominance from birth and fail to receive proper treatment in both social and physical aspects. However, in the rise of the new century drastic changes are seen in the treatment and roles of Chinese women. The harshness and cruelty of Chinese society on females is seen throughout China s history up till the mid 1950s when Mao demanded equality. The Importance Of Electronic Mass Communication Web 2.0 environments stand to have a profound impact on social practices (Bruns, 2013, page 117) iPhones have a way of removing people from conversations that they may be physically present for. The image of the green light is presented in Chapter 1, as Gatsby extended his arms to the single green light at Daisy s dock as if it were some sort of religious icon. Jordan also confirms this sense of idolization when she says that Gatsby bought [his] house so that Daisy would be just across the bay, suggesting his obsessive devotion to Daisy (77). Gatsby views his car, a flamboyant Rolls Royce, as a display of his wealth; however its rich cream color, swollen in its monstrous length, and terraced with a labyrinth of windshields, makes the automobile seem outrageous rather than stunning and impressive (64). However, Gatsby s automobile transforms into a death car when in the hands of Daisy, as she murders Myrtle Wilson. Similarly, Wilson s garage having only a dust covered wreck of a Ford, characterizes Wilson himself in the Valley of ashes (25). I have always been fascinated by the magnificent way humans have developed and integrated systems of people, money, knowledge, information and energy. Growing up, I was incredibly curious to unravel how devices function, and this curiosity developed into a burning desire to learn how processes, systems, and organizations operate and run our world. From an early age I used to read science books, journals, magazines and watch engineering documentaries driven by my eagerness to gain a better understanding of the mechanism by which our world system is working. I completed my Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering, the program was a blend of mathematics, operation management, lean manufacturing, quality control and engineering economics applications. All through my Bachelor program, I was attracted to the idea of developing a more effective technique to generate power of the solar system using smart technology. Driven by a desire to tackle the global warming phenomenon, I decided to carry out my final year project work on a solar power generation device, where I came up with an innovative method and designed a dual axis model which used the solar power to operate and produce renewable energy with improved efficiency. Global warming impacts all of the life around us even though not many people recognize it. There are many problems that global warming will make to our environment and it has already impacted it over time. Although, there are many problems, there are also solutions to stop global warming. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Global warming also causes intense weather and weather patterns. When the ocean water heats up, then that means it will create hurricanes and as the Earth continues to heat up then it will make even stronger hurricanes over time. Hurricanes are increasing because in some ocean basins, hurricane intensification has been linked to rising ocean temperatures (Global Warming Impacts). Other times of weather that can occur in some areas are flooded because of excess precipitation. Excess precipitation can be a bad thing because flooding is destroying a lot of things, for example military bases near the coast. Wildfires are beginning to occur more often now since the Earth is heating up which is a disaster because that affects plants and animals. If wildfires occur, then many forests will die and that will pollute the air even more. ` There are a few solutions to stop global warming and the most common one is to reduce the burning of fossil fuels. Whenever people use an automobile, a car, bus, or plane, then that is polluting the air, which will warm the Earth because the ozone layer is getting destroyed. Although many people have to have transportation, if they cut down on their driving or got more energy efficient cars then it would help a lot. • 27. Kidneys Filter Our Blood Kidneys work rapidly throughout the day filtering out the toxic wastes that go through the body. The kidneys filter about 180 liters of blood per day. That is three liters getting filtered 60 times per day. But my question is does having diabetes and hypertension affect the filtration rate in the kidneys? In the body the kidneys perform the task of filtering out the toxic wastes from the bloodstream and then returning the clean blood back into the body for reabsorption. According to the University of Michigan The kidneys perform the essential function of removing waste products from the blood and regulating the water fluid levels. The kidneys will collect toxic blood from the renal artery, and from there the blood enters through a passageway of nephrons where the toxins are cycled out through a series of structures. The blood will first enter into the Bowman s Capsule. The Bowman s Capsule is an expansion of a closed end to a renal tubule found in the cortex. Kent M. Van De Graff studies showed that In the Bowman s Capsule the blood gets filtered through however; it only lets smaller particles through. Particles as big as red blood cells or that have a molecular mass greater than 69,000 can not travel through the Bowmans Capsule and get reabsorbed into the bloodstream. From there the toxins and blood travel into the proximal tubule. In the proximal convoluted tubule that we reabsorb most of the materials that we need to reabsorb from the filtrate. It also helps to control the processes in the body through its connection to the central and autonomic nervous systems and endocrine system. The Cerebral Cortex The Cerebral Cortex directs the brain s higher cognitive and emotional functions. It is divided into two equal halves called cerebral hemispheres. Each hemisphere has the same four areas called lobes. Areas in the lobes control all forms of conscious experience, perception, emotion, thought, and planning, as well as many unconscious and emotional processes. The frontal lobe helps in motor control and cognitive activities, like planning, making decisions, setting goals, and relating the present to the future through purpose. The parietal lobe controls the sensory process, spatial interpretation, attention, and language understanding. The Rivets: The wrought iron rivets that fastened the hull plates to the Titanic s main structure also failed because of brittle fracture from the high impact loading of the collision with the iceberg and the low temperature water on the night of the disaster. With the ship travelling at nearly 25 mph, the contact with the iceberg was probably a series of impacts that caused the rivets to fail either in shear or by elongation [2].
