Herbal Supplements Essay
Herbal Supplements and Drugs Interactions
KimHang Phan
Molloy College
Herbal Supplements and Drugs Interactions The clear definition of an herbal supplement is defined by
The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA) as a product not a drug. The
product contains vitamins, minerals, amino acids, herbs, and dietary constituents for use to supplement
the diet ( Using Dietary Supplements Wisely, 2014). Like medications, dietary supplements exert both
negative and positive effects to the body. Supplements may improve health but they also produce the
potential harmful if interacting with certain drugs. For this reason, dietary supplements are regulated
by FDA to ensure both safety and effectiveness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 2007 NHIS also found the following:
American Indian or Alaska Native adults (50.3%) and white adults (43.1%) were more likely to use
CAM than Asian adults (39.9%) or black adults (25.5%). Children whose parent used CAM were
almost five times as likely (23.9%) (Barnes et al., 2008, p.1).
Because natural products or herbal remedies become prevalent usage among adults in America, it is
very important to acknowledge if an herbal product is safe or useful for certain health conditions and
its potential interaction with other drugs causing toxicity. For example, evening primrose oil may
interact with anticoagulants and antiplatelet medications ( VP PRECIP , 2014). Bayles (2009) stated
that the seeds of the evening primrose are rich in omega 6 essential fatty acids (EFAs), including
linoleic acid and gamma linolenic acid (GLA) (p.1405). Omega 6 EFAs and GLA contain some
properties, which help to reduce inflammatory. Evening primrose oil (Oenothera biennis) is a native
North American plant. Evening primrose oil (EPO) is commonly use in breast pain, premenstrual
symptoms (PMS), menopausal, cancer, asthma, diabetes, and other chronic inflammatory diseases
such as rheumatoid arthritis and eczema (Bayles, 2009). EPO is well tolerated by most individuals.
Some people reported a mild stomach upset, abdominal pain, nausea. EPO should not

The Importance Of Clinical Psychologists
While there are a wide variety of specialties in the discipline of Psychology, one of the most
commonly known is the Clinical Psychologists. The duty of Clinical Psychologists is to assess and
treat people s mental and emotional disorders (Specialties 1). Some of these disorders include
depression, anxiety, anorexia, bulimia, substance abuse, and learning disabilities (Clinical 1). Because
they treat an assortment of mental disorders, Clinical Psychologists can be found in many different
professional environments. Clinical Psychologists can be found in hospital, mental institutions, public
and private secondary schools, and some venture out and begin their own private practices. Although
Clinical Psychologists make up a large part of the Psychological community and can (say how they
can do a bunch of different stuff), there are very in depth schooling that students must attend to
become a Clinical Psychologist. The practice of Clinical Psychology was not recognized as a
discipline until the end of the nineteenth century. The psychologist who is considered the Father of
Clinical Psychology, Lightner Witmer, published the first edition of The Psychological Clinic (Baron
1). The prime article in this academic journal was a psychological study performed by Witmer entitled
Clinical Psychology . His article extrapolated his decade long study and why the term clinical
psychology was necessary in the field of Psychology. Witmer s study and others included in the

Rock n Hip, Hop n Roll, and the Integration of Music in Popular Culture
Prelude
From bell bottoms to Barbies, every generation has its own distinct trends. While various fads have
cropped up in each era, music has always been a key element of culture. Starting in the 1950 s, music
became integrated within the American culture as the favored form of expression. The popular types
of music found on the Top 100 lists today however, have changed dramatically since then. What has
promoted this obvious change in music choice? While rock n roll still holds its own in the music
billboards of 2010, the general public now prefers the mechanical sounds of hip hop and ... Show

Most songs told of lovers, yearning for each other in some type of sense. This theme reflects the
attitudes of teenagers in the 1950 s, as this was the first generation people were allowed to marry for
love. Women had more freedom to travel into the workplace and finally be on equal grounds with their
husbands. Husbands did not have to leave their wives for war. Children had more autonomy as parents
no longer dictated who and when they were going to love. However, as this freedom was increasingly
integrated into American culture over time, the amount of love related songs dramatically dropped. In
1966, only 69.5% of produced songs were about love and courtship (Carey 723). Rock n roll provided
the perfect form of expression in the 1950 s. It combined lyrical ties to radical social changes and
catchy rhythms unique to its generation.
What s Hip Now? The change tearing through America in the 1950 s persists to this day. 2010 has
brought a busier, more materialistic, culture than ever before. The trends of women working outside of
the home and increasing teenage autonomy persists. American teenagers are given more discretionary
time than ever before in history. Reed Larson studied this continuing trend and explains, If we look
back over the past 200 years, the most striking historic change in young people s use of time is that
youths spend much less time on labor activities today than they did in America s agrarian past (160).
Some teenagers use

Jane Eyre By Charlotte Bronte
Following the experiences of Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte, expresses many elements of gothic
literature throughout her novel Jane Eyre. In her perfect understanding of gothic literature, she
expresses the three types of evil commonly found in gothic literature, including the evil of the
supernatural, the evil within or the instinctual evil motives of humans, and lastly, the evil because of
societal influence. Jane Eyre experiences all of these three evils with her aunt and three cousins with
her residency and return to Gateshead: Jane encounters the supernatural and the evil of societal
influence as a child and she fully encounters the evil within upon her return.
As a child at Gateshead, one discovers the first form of evil in the novel with the negative interactions
between Jane and her relatives, which sparks from both, physical inferiority, (Bronte 11) to her
cousins, and as Bronte eventually states, her lack of money. Doing rather short work, the reader
discovers Jane does not belong in Gateshead with her rich Aunt, Mrs. Reed, and her cousins, John,
Georgina, and Eliza. Jane s three cousins cluster, around their mamma, (Bronte 11) in the opening of
the novel, but Jane sits in solitary. She leaves to ask her aunt, What does Bessie say I have done?
(Bronte 11); her aunt responds she likes children, who do not take up their elders, and Bronte implies,
she likes good children, which becomes surprising with Jane s cousins later actions. As Mrs. Reed

Criminal Justice Setting Goals
Setting goals give me the motivation I need so that I know I am working toward something I really
want. My goals are my reminder that no matter how hard the task maybe I must take each one of them
head on to accomplish them. Goals may change along the way however the result of them will never,
and that is the feeling of success and accomplishment that I will feel knowing I ve done all I can and
set my mind to.
As of now, this is my third semester attending Eastfield and I m majoring in criminal justice in hopes
of working in the juvenile justice system someday. My current goal is finishing school and graduating
with an associates degree in criminal justice. Then from there, I hope to be making my way to a Sam

Ottoman Empire Society
Over the past few weeks in this class I have read about a multitude of societies thought different time
periods. Each society is unique in their own different ways, and with these differences have come
attractions, that make each society desirable, as well as things that make them inconvenient. If I were
to chose one society to live it, it would be the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman empire was established
and soon began to expand, it had the hopes to protect the people under the empire as well as expand
and become powerful. The Ottoman Empire conquered many other societies while maintaining the
philosophy conquer not kill. One aspect that attracts me to the Ottomans was when I read about how
they built their empire by not only absorbing the Muslims of Anatolia as well protecting the Orthodox
Church and the Greek Christians of Anatolia. This struck my attention, because it showed how
blended the culture that surrounds the Ottoman empire is. Another aspect that caught my attention was
how well conquered the Ottoman were, they conquered over 50 cities. The larger cities were ruled

I completely understand that it was acceptable and almost expected for people to own slaves and use
them. However, the only problem I find with how the slave use is in the Ottoman empire is that there
was a social order for the slaves. I don t know why this made me uncomfortable, and maybe I do
know. It could be that I live in the 21st century and slaves are a touchy subject, and it could be that it
disgusts be that a person would have the desire to own another human being. I am not able to quiet pin
point the issue I find in this, but the fact that these slaves have established a form of social order, gives
me the sense that they believe it is okay to be sold and used as seem fit. That theses slaves had
inherited their own social organization, or pyramid, that was to be

Monopoly And How It Reflects Society
Monopoly and how it reflects society
Monopoly is a board game which dates back to the early 20th century. Monopoly is a game which is
based on the idea that, an economy which rewards wealth creation is better than one in which
monopolist work under few constraints. This game encourages capitalism, in which one individual or
group can own a specific market and charge whatever fees they which, to attain the profit they want,
till the individuals either get bankrupt or stop using their services for alternating services. Monopoly
can be used to represent the inequalities of society, by using modified rules to reflect social
stratification of our society. To show then inequality in society, first everyone starts with a different
amount of money, with the highest income quartile starting with $3,728 US, multiple properties and
receiving $500 US every time he/she crosses the GO sign. On the other hand, the lowest quartile start
with a meager amount of $270 US, no property and receive $36 US every time the pass GO. From this
experiment, it was shown that the richest player, always won out and in some occasions, the lower
class player would rise to a higher income level but always lost the game. Some experiment, have

show the huge income gap which exist between different races. This race class of the monopoly
version, shows different starting wealth, properties, income, voting power and shows the damage of
the criminal justice system to African Americans and Native Americans. Unlike other races having one
opportunity to go to jail, African Americans and Native Americans on the other hand have a higher
potential to end up in jail. This is a true reflection of reality showing that 1 in 3 African American
males are imprisoned in their

Orthodontic Treatment
Orthodontic experts recommend that children be screened for braces by the time they turn 7. This is
the recommended age because the child s permanent first molars (upper and lower) should already be
in: Furthermore, the child s four front upper and lower incisors may be in or about to erupt. At
Pediatric Dentistry of Central Florida, we know the importance of a healthy, vibrant smile. For this
reason, our patients receive an orthodontic evaluation at each routine visit.
Issues That May Affect the Teeth and Jaw
Some of the issues that may lead to the need for braces include variances in jaw development and
tooth eruption patterns as well as habits like thumb/finger sucking, pacifier use and/or prolonged
bottle use.

Potential benefits of early treatment include the ability to guide jaw growth, correct oral habits that are
harming the teeth, lower the risk of a trauma occurring to protruding front teeth, enhance your child s
smile and improve the function of your child s bite.
In some cases, early orthodontic treatment may actually prevent a future problem from developing,
decrease the amount of time that treatment is necessary when the child is older, make future any
treatment less complicated or avoid the need for future treatment altogether. Moreover, there are
situations when an orthodontist must address issues as the face and jaws are still forming. With the
benefit of early, routine orthodontic evaluations at Pediatric Dentistry of Central Florida, you provide
your child with his or her best chance for a healthy, vibrant smile.
Early Treatment is Not Always Necessary
Conversely, there might be problems that early treatment cannot address or a problem that does not
warrant immediate treatment. In these cases, orthodontic treatment may be delayed until the child s
permanent teeth have

Analysis Of The Film Dunkirk
In Christopher Nolans most recent film, Dunkirk, he tells the story of allied soldiers being evacuated
from Belgium, after the Germans surrounded them, also know as Operation Dynamo. As a huge fan of
Nolan already, I thought this movie was a masterpiece. This was his first movie based on a war, and he
did a great job retelling the history. He used an approach that had the actors use very little talking, and
relied on the music and visuals to tell the story. The plot of Dunkirk revolves around the largest
evacuation in military history, and involves troops across all allied nations. Nolan has three major
settings for his movie, air, land, and sea. The air setting shows Tom Hardy as an allied pilot, providing
protection to the beaches as troops attempt to load naval vessels. There are scenes where he is in
dogfights with German planes, and he eventually gets shot down. The land setting involves the allied
troops attempting to evacuate the beach with only a few naval vessels supporting the operation. There
is constant chaos and confusion during the process, and many soldiers attempt to sneak on boats or
escape on their own. Finally on the sea, there are parts where naval vessels have to deal with attacks
from German airplanes, and some boats get sunk during the mission. There is also a time where it
shows British civilians using their own personal boats to come to the rescue of the troops. Throughout
the movie there is constant conflict ranging from equipment failure, to

Persecution Of Christianity
Christianity originally was not viewed as a world religion. Christians were being persecuted in the
Roman empire by order of the emperors. They were already a small population and continued to get
smaller. Upon the arrival of Constantine the great the rulings of the Roman empire began to change.
The persecutions of Christians came to a halt when Constantine gained a role of higher power in the
second Rome, leading to promotion of Christianity spread and the beginning of the new empire of
Constantinople. Christians were only a small population found in the Roman empire. Due to the group
being a minority they were seen as the scapegoats for all issues in the empire. They were blamed for
anything from terrible weather to disease. Persecution of Christians began with blame, from emperor
Nero in 64 AD, due to a simple fire in Rome. Due to their small population it was easy to discriminate
and persecute them. However, upon Constantine s new rule of the empire the persecution of Christians
comes to a halt. Constantines introduction to the Christian faith occurred during a defining battle.
Maxentius and Constantine were in battle to gain the title of emperor of the Roman empire. During the
battle of Milvian Bridge, God appeared to Constantine and told him if he marched into battle with the
sign of God, Chi Rho cross, that he would come out victorious. Constantine in disbelief asked
Christians if this was the true sign of the one and only God. When reassured by the Christians

A New Form of Expansion Essay
A New Form of Expansion
Before the start of the Spanish American War of the late nineteenth century and World War I in the
early twentieth century, the United States had encouraged expansion as being a way of gaining power.
For example, the Frontier thesis, conveyed that it is through the expansion of new lands that humanity
would continue to progress. Also the United States portrayed its impatience to expand through
Manifest Destiny: the desire to expand from sea to sea with the goal to own and cultivate as much land
as possible. However, as the late nineteenth and early twentieth century appeared, America
experienced a change. It grew from an ambitious, power seeking country, to the ... Show more content

Also, in John Hay s First and Second Open Door Notes, he promotes the United States necessity for
equal trade with China, which was the U.S main attempt to solve foreign issues, peacefully. Once
more, through Senator Albert J. Beveridge s Speech to 56th Congress, he claims that the Pacific is our
ocean….And the Pacific is the ocean of the commerce of the future…The power that rules the
Pacific, therefore, is the power that rules the world (Doc E). Throughout this time, the theory of the
United States dream of Manifest Destiny and its sole desire of expansion supports the idea that the
purpose of expansionism, is for foreign dominance thus, the more land you have, the more power you
control.
The United States interfered with foreign affairs whenever necessary to keep order. As shown through
the Annual Message to Congress, Theodore Roosevelt conveys that if it (a nation) keeps order and
pays its obligations, it need fear no interference from the United States (Doc F). The Platt Amendment
of 1901 specified the conditions under which the U.S could intervene in Cuba s internal affairs; stating
that Cuba could not make a treaty with another nation that might impair its independence. Secondly, it
was through the approval of the 1898 Treaty of Paris, that the Spanish American War ended and

The Impact Of Technology In Foreign AffairsBy Alison Lurie
In today s changing world, technology has influenced most everyone. In this new age, many different
opinions and controversies have arose. Foreign Affairs, a novel by Alison Lurie, uses fictional
characters and events to create ideas, illustrated in the novel, that compel the reader to think about
common societal issues and their causes. Foreign Affairs uses characters ideas on tourism and places
emphasis on societal norms and the characters opinions of them as a catalyst to nudge the reader into
this thought about common issues in society. Virginia (Vinnie) Miner, an advanced professor at
Corinth University in the novel, illustrates societal behaviors and their impact on her. Fred Turner,
another professor at Corinth University in the novel, discusses tourism and his opinions of it with
friends in London, England. Plato s Allegory of the Cave , Comic by Scott McCloud, and Adam
Gopnik s article Stones and Bones can be used as lenses to view Foreign Affairs. When using
McCloud s lens, the emphasis on societal behaviors and tourism in Foreign Affairs, acts as a vehicle
for cogitation on the reader s part about the actual and representational and their roles in the world
today. Plato s lens, when applied to Foreign Affairs, leads the reader to consider the effects of people
living in a representational world as opposed to living in the actual world. Gopnik s lens addresses
aspects of tourism that lack the actual culture and emotion behind an event or place, leading to a

Survey of Art History
Survey of Art History II
Man Ray like many other artists did not care to have his personal life shown in his art. He wanted to
be viewed and recognized for his work which included sculptures, paintings, and photography. Man
Ray was mostly influenced by Stieglitz s photographs. Man Ray used a similar style to Stieglitz. He
captured images that created an unvarnished look at the photos subject. Man Ray discovered a new
way to create his photos; by accident in his work room he discovered how to manipulate objects in his
photos on pieces of photosensitive paper. In the year 1914, at a seminal exhibition, Man Ray
introduced himself to African art. Man Ray did this at the Alfred Stieglitz 291 Gallery. Man Ray s
photograph Noire et Blanche became an icon for modern photography. Although this was his most
famous and widely known piece, Man Ray s less known work made a greater impact and influence on
African art. Photographs with African art pieces began to flourish greatly after Man Ray s break
through with his Noire et Blanche photograph. These photographs shed light on many day to day
issues such as: issues of race, identity, sex, separatism, and disenfranchisement. Noire et Blanche

Imagery In Willa Cather s My Antonia
Through the detailed use of language, such as imagery of the Nebraskan plains and symbolism of
Antonia, Willa Cather reveals that My Antonia explores the values of the classic pioneer, such as self
dependence, perseverance, and the refusal to submit to unforgiving hardship, thus illuminating the age
of pioneering as a timeless inspiration for everyone. The American west. A land filled with misery and
struggle. A land that pushes one to their limit. A land that test the boundaries of one s strength and
molds their lives forever. Cather s view of the true meaning of the American dream is strongly planted
in the barren plains themselves. By using descriptive imagery, Cather brings to life the seemingly

A woman filled with astounding love. A woman dragged in adversity her entire life, yet still rooted
perseverance. A woman of steel, seemingly superhuman, with a heart of compassion. A woman that
could be battered, but never broken. Throughout the novel, Cather uses Antonia as the symbol of
resiliency, a resiliency that could only be found by living the true American Dream, pioneering. By
describing her never ending strength and her undying love, Cather symbolizes Antonia as the strength
of a true pioneer. In the passage Cather describe these emotions when she states, I had not been
mistaken. She was a battered woman now, not a lovely girl; but she still had that something which
fires the imagination, could still stop one s breath for a moment by a look or gesture that somehow
revealed the meaning in common things...All the strong things of her heart came out in her body, that
had been so tireless in serving generous emotions (Cather 207). Using her passage, Cather describes
Antonia as a weathered old lady, who has been toughened by the land. Yet, through this withered
appearance, Antonia s imaginative inner quality still shines through. Through Antonia, Cather draws a
picture of an enduring source of compassion and warmth, often providing strength to other characters,
such as Jim. Through Antonia, Cather conveys to her audience that the true strength of the pioneer
comes from within. She elucidates Antonia s character to illustrate the pioneer s ability to survive

Reasons Why The North Won The Civil War
The Union won the American Civil War and reunited the country for several different reasons that
changed over time. The North had advantages and successes that ebbed and flowed throughout the
course of the war, while the South continued to make the same mistakes. A combination of Union
success and Confederate failures ended the war in favor of the North and without one of them; it is
hard to judge the outcome of the war. At the start of the war, the Union had a clear advantage in
manpower and resources, which lasted throughout the war. When the Confederacy broke away, they
consisted of eleven states compared to twenty three of the Union. Consequently, the North had a
population of twenty three million while the South only had nine million, three and a half million of
which were enslaved blacks. To combat this, the Confederates had to mobilize a massive proportion of
its population. A whopping eighty percent of military age white men had to enlist. The South only
produced seven percent of all manufactured goods when the war broke out. ... Show more content on

Stevie Smith Poetry Analysis
Smith s life reflected in poems
As an English poet who lived through the age of unrest (1902 1971), Stevie Smith had a mysterious
life. Although Smith claimed that the characters she wrote about did not exist outside her work, her
novel is considered self reflective, and later turned into a play and a movie. Her unique poems also
shed lights on her life. Stevie Smith s unusual life experiences and viewpoints impact her poems
immensely in the aspects of simple forms, detached emotion, and uncanny themes.
Smith s clear and calm regard of life defines the simple forms in her works. Avoiding cliches, her
sentences directly penetrate people s mind. Her poems are influenced by the trend of light verse during
her time. According to Bernard, ...... light verse is the English national neurosis, and the doggerel that
has leapt from the pens of even the most serious of English poets is staggering (Bernard). Using the
properties of a light verse, Smith is able to create a innocent tone, tricking people to laugh. At the
same time, the seemingly delighted lines trigger people s contemplation for deeper layers of
desolation. Many of her poems resembles ballads, lullabies, and nursery rhymes, accompanied by
childlike doodles. These forms of poem appear simple and humorous, friendly to little children, and
easy to recite and remember. For example, the poem Tender Only to One takes form in a lullaby with
lilting meters. It begins with the flower plucking game, which indicates the childlike innocence and
playfulness. However, as the poem unfolds, the uncertainty and eccentricity evolve. In the last stanza,
the imageries of Latest breath , cry out aloud , and icy shroud (Poetry Foundation) all together create
an eerie feeling, which leads to the solemn and heavy subject of death. Her narration style is consistent
with her biography, for both of them are clear and crisp like checklists, representing a life measuring
out in coffee spoons, punctuated by enthusiasms (Zarin), without euphuism and decoration.
Stevie s works presents detached emotions and lurking darkness due to her childhood trauma and her
social life. Her poem Voices about the Princess Anemone (Stevenson) contains elusive tones and

Analysis Of The Generation Of Monsters
According to Jenny Strauss Clay, in their journal titled The Generation of Monsters in Hesiod, there is
a natural hierarchy of men and beasts (Clay 112). As with any hierarchy, there are usually differences,
or in this case distinguishing features of the divine, the bestial, and the human, which instinctively
place some creatures above others (Clay 108). In the Greek and Roman myths that we read in class,
this hierarchy is clearly shown through the relationship between the gods and monsters. As written in
Theogony, all monsters derived from Gaia, however it is their appearances that set them apart from the
gods. Clay defines being monstrous as being an anomaly. From birth, a monster does not fit into usual
classifications, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, there are new standards for all beings.
Greek and Roman monsters are hybrid creatures that unite normally disparate elements, like for
example, the human and the bestial (Clay 106). It is their distinctive qualities that make them
discriminated against. Sometimes, they involve a multiplication of human or animal features or they
violate fundamental categories, for instance, mortal/immortal, young/old, and male/female (Clay 106).
One example of this in the Aeneid is Cerberus. Once Aeneas and the Sibyl cross the river to get into
the underworld, they see this multi headed dog that guarding the gates. As revealed in Theogony,
Cerberus is also the offspring of two monsters, Echidna and Typhon (Hesiod, Theogony, 310 315).
Like Clay wrote, the gods would view those who had multiples of the same feature as monsterous.
Thus, it makes sense how in the Aeneid, Cerberus is described as having three throats, an enormous
bulk, and serpents writh[ing] around his neck (Virgil, Aeneid, p. 198, 6.480 482). Because of this, the
gods are fine with using him as a guard. They are taking advantage of him so that they don t have to
deal with people trying to sneak out of the underworld. This is all because, as a monster, their
excessive power or distinguishing features inspires fear, especially in those who rule . So Zeus is left
neutralize the threat and then incorporate them into his new order (Clay

How Technology Has Changed Our Life
The recent changes in technology has been vast comparatively to any other decade. We have come a
long way from riding around on horses to modern self driving cars (Google,2015). From cordless to
smart phones. The technology has completely changed the lifestyle of a day to day routine. At the
moment we are able to do almost everything on a 5 inch touchscreen that would require basically a
whole desktop PC just a decade ago or so. Considering that we have come to the tech era, how
difficult is it for the older generation to cope up with the digital living. Or how the young generation
has adapted to the tech digital life completely in areas such as Business Management. This paper
solely concentrates on the generational gap, older generation viewed as digital tourist and younger
generation adapting the digital life, various aspects including business management. Use of
Technology Firstly, we need to understand how technology is important in the digital era as of today.
To make It more precise we will concentrate on the business management use to technology. A
business will require storage devices. Software s such as excel spreadsheet workbooks to keep data
records of incoming and outgoing sales or accounting software to calculate payroll of the employees
of the business or company, all of which will require a computer which has a storage device on it. A
business biggest strength to reach new customers is advertising or marketing. As the internet is taking

Alprazolam is a drug that was originally formulated to produce relaxation effects. Today the drug is

During the time that alprazolam was being developed, there were lots of products on the market that
were very harmful to the body and its central nervous system. Because of this, Upjohn shifted the
identity of Alprazolam of being a safer drug, backing up their statements with scientific research. In
1969, Upjohn petitioned for a patent for their new antidepressant drug. However, the FDA patented

Prison Incarceration Programs
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology is one of the five pillars of the criminal justice system.
It is also known as the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor). On January 2,1991 the Bureau of Jail
Management and Penology was created pursuant to section 60 to 65, chapter 5 of republic act no.

RE: Proposal for Final Project
I request that you accept my topic for the Writing 465 final project. Hopefully, I will be able to use
this project to help alleviate the current parking problem at Winthrop University. Jack Allen, from
Campus Police, and Walter Hardin, Associate Vice President for Facilities Management, have shown
interest in my project.
BACKGROUND
Winthrop University is a small public school with an enrollment of 5,065 undergraduate students (Fall
2002). Although there is a wonderful parking system ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After years more of complaining, they decided to add a parking garage to their campus. Although this
garage eliminated 200 spaces, it added 613. The price of this garage was $5.5 million. Arkansas State
used the parking deck, as well as the reserved parking system to help alleviate their situation. Many
other campuses utilize the same systems, such as: University of Cincinnati, University of Iowa,
University of Louisville, University of Pittsburgh, University of South Florida, University of
Tennessee, University of Wisconsin, and many more.
There are currently only a handful of reserved spaces on campus, and the ground has yet to be broken
for the construction of the parking deck. In fact, Winthrop University does not even have all the funds
needed to build this parking deck. When I approached Jack Allen, of Campus Police, with my idea of
reserved parking spaces, he told me that he thought it was a good idea. Walter Hardin, when given the
same idea, seemed to think that the reserved parking system would not realistically work out but was
open to the proposal.
PROPOSED PROJECT
I am planning to find the funding needed to establish reserved parking at Winthrop University through
Campus Police and the current traffic and parking system. Hopefully, Winthrop University and
Campus Police will recognize the need and responsibility to fund these reserved parking spaces.

Care For Health Campaign Essay
The care for health campaign was the first family planning promotion to be done in Russia and it
helped increase the use of modern contraceptives by 12%. It was part of the women´s reproductive
health program (WRHP) which involved training of health care providers, advocacy and research.
This intervention resulted in increase in family planning counselling for women, longer continuation
rates of contraceptives and increase in clinic attendance for family planning in the intervention areas.
This program was birthed in 1994 by the US Agency for international development to improve the
health of children and women by promoting the change in the current family planning communication

The objectives of a campaign should resonate with the strategy (Myanmar, 2013). This is the point
where one asks questions such as what do I need to do to achieve the overall goal of the campaign? In
this case, one of the campaign objectives was to increase knowledge and positive attitudes towards
modern contraceptives. In so doing, the campaign would be meeting the overall strategy which was to
bring family planning to the public arena and to highlight its importance.
Choosing an age bracket is also essential as one is able to seclude the target audience in order to make
the campaign strategy more effective. The age bracket for women chosen was 18 30. This was also an
appropriate age since it is the prime age for reproduction.
One of the activities done was to disseminate the family planning message through national television.
The airtime was donated by the prime minister then. This was effective as the message reached
women throughout Russia and the neighboring countries. The campaign also used a disco event to
promote family planning communication.

Terrorist Attacks On The World Trade Center
There is little doubt that the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11
drastically changed America s sense of security in recent years. Yet the country is facing another kind
of threat, one that is not entirely different than the dangers of terrorism at a global scale: domestic
terrorism. At its core, domestic terrorism differs from any other type of terrorism in the sense that
those who carry it out are citizens or permanent residents of a given country and who inflict violence
and intimidation against their fellow citizens or permanent residents in the pursuit of political aims
(Sharpe, 2000, p. 606). In that sense, domestic terrorism may also be called homegrown terrorism.
Perhaps the best, and most gruesome, example that shows the difference between domestic terrorism
and other types of terrorism is the bombing of the World Trade Center. In the September 11 attacks,
the perpetrators were Islamist jihadists who belong to al Qaeda, a Sunni Islamist organization that
America eventually categorized as a network of terrorist groups. Most of the direct perpetrators
themselves were from Saudi Arabia while the rest were from Egypt, Lebanon, and the United Arab
Emirates (Bell, Clay, Murdie Piazza, 2014, p. 607). In other words, they were non citizens of America.
In the aftermath of the attacks, authorities revealed that most of the victims were American citizens
and permanent residents. The fact that the attacks were carried out in American

World War I Poetry with Emphasis on Wilfred Owens
World War I spanned four years, from June 1914 to June 1918. During this war, technological
advances increased the danger for the soldiers who took part in battle. Poison gas and trench warfare
transformed World War I into a cesspool of sickness and death. Poetry during World War I provided a
way to connect people back home with the horrific lifestyle soldiers had to face on a daily basis. Poets
such as Wilfred Owens used vivid imagery, dire diction, and other literary devices to depict the
grueling tasks of warfare. World War I, otherwise known as the Great War, began on June 28th, 1914,
when Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo, Bosnia. This began a four year war that

But the struggle, and the sense that one is saving bits from the wreckage, doesn t give one a chance to
be mastered by the unutterable woe (Gay).
Chemical warfare was developed by German scientist in 1914, but was not deemed chivalrous until
January 1915. . The Germans launched the first major poison gas attack near Ypres on April 22, 1915.
French colonial troops were the victims. Two days later another gas attack hit Canadian troops who
had just entered the trenches. On both occasions the Germans inflicted thousands of casualties and
penetrated enemy lines but failed to achieve the hoped for decisive results. Much the same pattern
would follow as the war progressed. Following the initial German example, both sides used
increasingly treacherous varieties of poison gas and perfected methods of delivery (Lengel 18). The
use of poison gas claimed the lives of 500,000 to 650,000 people. One man who served for the British
Expeditionary Force described poison gas as, a crawling yellow cloud that pours in upon you, that gets
you by the throat and shakes you as a huge mastiff might shake a kitten, leaves you burning in every
nerve and vein of your body with pain unthinkable (Gay). Wilfred Owens was born on March 18,

Depression and Its Causes
The purpose of this essay is to give a critical overview of the current treatment approaches offered to
individuals experiencing a mental health problem. The mental health problem that will be discussed
throughout the essay is depression. The chosen treatment that will be examined is, antidepressant
treatment, by taking in to account the issues associated with this particular treatment.
Additionally, the essay will deliver an understanding of mental health and illness by focusing on the
underlying perspectives (biomedical). According to Reynolds et al. (2009, p. 8) compared with other
areas of health practice, the mental health field is particularly subjected to heated debate . Therefore,
the essay will attempt to look at the contemporary issues within mental health care by drawing on
relevant research.
There are various theories and understandings given to the term mental health . A previous
understanding given by the Health Education Authority (1997, in Tilford and Cattan, 2006 p. 17)
defined mental health as the emotional and spiritual pliability which allows us to enjoy life and to
survive pain, disappointment and sadness. It is a positive sense of well being and an underlying belief
in our own, and others , dignity and worth . However more recently, mental health has been defined by
the World Health Organisation (2011) as a state of well being in which every individual realises his or

History Of Aspirin
The synthesis of aspirin is very important in today s society. One of the age old methods of treating
patients with inflammation problems, blood coagulation problems, fevers, and having a high risk of

can decrease the risk of a second heart attack (Baigent 2009). In fact, the FDA has approved four
drugs for the prevention of vascular problems, and aspirin is one (Furie 2010). In addition, aspirin is
used daily by many seniors in the U.S. In a recent survey, it was found that in people ranging from 45

In an esterification reaction, a carboxylic acid reacts with an alcohol. The synthesis of aspirin is an
esterification reaction. Initially, the proton, i.e. the hydrogen ion, from the acid attacks the acetic
anhydride and attaches itself on a double bond oxygen. This makes the compound more electrophilic,
meaning that it has a higher affinity for electrons. This is what sets off the reaction. The salicylic acid
then acts as an alcohol and attaches its OH group onto a carbon on the acetic anhydride. Then, the
hydrogen from the OH group (the alcohol group) of the salicylic acid falls off, forming a tetrahedral
intermediate, and the hydrogen ion reassociates with the conjugate base of the acid used as the
catalyst. Next, the hydrogen that came from the acid initially, transfers its electrons and forms a
double between the adjacent oxygen and carbon. However, the hydrogen atom does not fall off after
the transfer of electrons but is kept there with a positive charge. With this, another transfer of electrons
occurs and an acetyl group is generated from the breaking of the acetic anhydride. Now, the acetyl
group breaks off the positive hydrogen attached and acetic acid is generated as a result. With this, the
ester, the aspirin, is created (Watson

Various scenes were sculpted by a team of architects including Josep Maria Subirachs. The lowest
level of the scenes shows Jesus last night before the crucifixion, the second level shows the Calvary of
Christ and the third one shows the death, burial and resurrection scenes. There is also a figure
representing the ascension of Jesus on a bridge (Figure 9). Passion façade s pediment is formed by 18
bone shaped columns with harsh lines as they symbolize the brutality of Christ s death, moreover on
the façade words from the Bible in various languages can also be seen. Third one, the Glory façade
will be the greatest of all when it is completed. It will show the way to God in four events: death, final
judgment, hell and glory. 7 large columns will be built and their base will have demonstrations of
Seven Deadly Sins and for their top; Seven Heavenly Virtues. 5 According to Adrian Bejan, a
professor of mechanical engineering at Duke University, the facades are based on golden ratio and
geometric proportions and they are like a bridge between art and science . 6

The Horrors of Auschwitz
Auschwitz is considered by the most the most inhumane concentration camp in world war two. At the
beginning of 1940, Auschwitz was created, and it was under the rules of the SS (Concentration Camp).
Auschwitz was the largest concentration camp during World War II, where over a million people died.
Jews were treated horribly, and many were gassed. Auschwitz was called a death camp, for many
reasons which included the deportation and selection process, medical experiments, and gas chambers.
Auschwitz was called the death camp. It was the largest concentration camp, and it had the largest
prisoner population (Auschwitz). Nine out of ten prisoners in Auschwitz were Jewish (Auschwitz).
Most prisoners that arrived at Auschwitz only survived for a few weeks, or months (Auschwitz). Jews
died from starvation, medical experiments, gas chambers, diseases, and beatings. Jewish prisoners
looked like walking skeletons because they were deprived from food, and water (Auschwitz). The
prisoners, who were too weak to work, were sent to be killed in the gas chambers (Auschwitz). Some
prisoners committed suicide by running into the electric fences (Auschwitz). Many people tried to
escape, but only five hundred prisoners successfully escaped (Deem). It was nearly impossible to
escape because the camp was surrounded by electrically charged barbed wire fences (Auschwitz).
Auschwitz was also surrounded by SS guards equipped with machine guns (Auschwitz). Once the
camp was liberated the SS

Tim Burton Big Fish Quotes
The film Big Fish directed by Tim Burton has a lot of phenomenal quotes that relate to the film and
real life that get you analyzing and thinking about them. That the more difficult something became,
the more rewarding it was in the end. said by Edward Bloom, will be the first quote analyzed. Thus
analyzed this quote means that when Edward went down the bad path, he got rewarded by getting to
Spectre a location that plays a major role in the film, but in real life this means that if you choose the
more difficult path you will get more in return for you work than if you take the smooth easy route.
Therefore Fate has a cruel way of circling around on you. Said by Edward Bloom is the second quote
to be analyzed. This quote refers to when

Mary Church Terrell Research Paper
Mary Church Terrell was born to her parents Robert Reed Church and Louisa Ayers on September 23,
1863 in Memphis, Tennessee. Mary Church Terrell was known for many things, such as being the first
African American woman to obtain a college degree, her advocacy for civil rights, and her book titled,
A Colored Woman in a White World. With her father being a wealthy business person who was
technically considered the first African American millionaire in the south, Mary was taught about
being a hard worker, motivated, and the importance and value of a good education at an early age.
When she was six years old, her parents sent her to the Antioch College Model School in Yellow
Springs, Ohio. She later went on to attend Oberlin College in Ohio. And in 1884, she became one of
the first African American women to earn a college degree. Four years later she earned her master s
degree in education. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her talents and many leadership positions brought her into close contact with influential black and
white leaders, including Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Robert
Ingersoll, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Jane Addams, and others. In 1891, Mary Church
Terrell married Robert Terrell, who in 1901, accepted nomination by President William Taft as judge
of the Municipal Court of the District of Columbia; making him the first African American Judge

The Acts of Leadership in Black Hearts Essay
Introduction
Deceased philosopher Bertrand Russell once said, War does not determine who is right only who is
left . Those left are the soldiers of the 1 502nd, specifically Bravo Company 1st plt, and the Janabi
family and to a greater extent, the ever changing global world we all live in today. The tragic events
that conspired in a small Iraqi village became a microcosm of how leadership failures at every level
shaped the actions of a few soldiers who committed atrocious acts. One can also see how a high
operational tempo, along with prolonged violence and death, has on a person s psyche. It is the ugly
side of war that the average American citizen may not want to hear or talk about. For a soldier, it is
inevitably what they train their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
LTC Kunk s mission was twofold. His BN was to deploy to a region in the Euphrates valley that was
south of Baghdad, dubbed the Triangle of Death . An American presence had only lightly occupied the
area and the insurgency in that region was multiplying. They were unleashing havoc on American
troops in the area as well as civilians. 1 502nd was also tasked with training a division within the Iraqi
Army in the hope that they would secure the area once American troops departed for good. 1 502nd
deployed to Iraq in October of 2005. LTC Kunk split his forces into 3 elements. Kunk gave his
toughest missions to Bravo and Charlie companies. Their AO and FOB was away from the rest of the
BN and violence was considered the worse in this area. Once the orders were received by the
company commanders, each company pushed out to their respective FOBs. It did not take long for
Bravo Company to start taking casualties. 1st PLT was being hit particularly hard. One of the first
things Bravo Company did was set up TCPs in designated areas within and on the outskirts of the
town. These were stationary targets that insurgents picked up on quickly. They attacked the TCPs
frequently and the TCPs were normally guarded by a minimal amount of soldiers. IEDs were also
affecting Bravo s combat strength within the AO. It did not take long for morale to drop, especially in
1st PLT. Within the first 4 months of the deployment, 1st PLT had lost their PL and PSG as well as a

Process Description Of Object Oriented Programming
PROCESS DESCRIPTION OF OBJECT ORIENTED PROGRAMMING
Introduction
Object Oriented Programming is a programming paradigm emphasized on objects which consists of
data attributes and methods (Lewis; Loftus). Data attributes are comparable to nouns while methods
are comparable to verbs in English. For instance, a person represented by object, has name, age, and
gender as its data attributes. The person will be able to think, speak, and write with the representation
of methods in the object.
The main purpose of learning Object Oriented Programming is to create programs that are
maintainable and scalable. Maintainability is essential for programmers to understand the codes in a
program. Therefore, the codes have to be concise and clear. Moreover, programs need to be easy to
upgrade to accommodate changes in real world. Hence, we need to have the capability to build a
program on another program.
Object Oriented Programming enables programmers to program by modeling the real world instead of
defining the logic of how the world works. It focuses more on what makes up an object rather than
what the object does. Programmers can focus on creating small components or objects, and group
them together based on their relationships to build a larger object, which can be built upon again in
future. The process of developing the paradigm consists the following steps: Encapsulation,
Inheritance, Data Abstraction, and Polymorphism.
Discussion
Encapsulation
Encapsulation is an

Herbal Supplements Essay Herbal Supplements and Drugs Interactions KimHang Phan Molloy College Herbal Supplements and Drugs Interactions The clear definition of an herbal supplement is defined by The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA) as a product not a drug. The product contains vitamins, minerals, amino acids, herbs, and dietary constituents for use to supplement the diet ( Using Dietary Supplements Wisely, 2014). Like medications, dietary supplements exert both negative and positive effects to the body. Children whose parent used CAM were almost five times as likely (23.9%) (Barnes et al., 2008, p.1). Because natural products or herbal remedies become prevalent usage among adults in America, it is very important to acknowledge if an herbal product is safe or useful for certain health conditions and its potential interaction with other drugs causing toxicity. • 3. The Importance Of Clinical Psychologists While there are a wide variety of specialties in the discipline of Psychology, one of the most commonly known is the Clinical Psychologists. The duty of Clinical Psychologists is to assess and treat people s mental and emotional disorders (Specialties 1). Some of these disorders include depression, anxiety, anorexia, bulimia, substance abuse, and learning disabilities (Clinical 1). Because they treat an assortment of mental disorders, Clinical Psychologists can be found in many different professional environments. Clinical Psychologists can be found in hospital, mental institutions, public and private secondary schools, and some venture out and begin their own private practices. Although Clinical Psychologists make up a large part of the Psychological community and can (say how they can do a bunch of different stuff), there are very in depth schooling that students must attend to become a Clinical Psychologist. The practice of Clinical Psychology was not recognized as a discipline until the end of the nineteenth century. The psychologist who is considered the Father of Clinical Psychology, Lightner Witmer, published the first edition of The Psychological Clinic (Baron 1). The prime article in this academic journal was a psychological study performed by Witmer entitled Clinical Psychology . While various fads have cropped up in each era, music has always been a key element of culture. Starting in the 1950 s, music became integrated within the American culture as the favored form of expression. The popular types of music found on the Top 100 lists today however, have changed dramatically since then. What has promoted this obvious change in music choice? Most songs told of lovers, yearning for each other in some type of sense. This theme reflects the attitudes of teenagers in the 1950 s, as this was the first generation people were allowed to marry for love. Women had more freedom to travel into the workplace and finally be on equal grounds with their husbands. Husbands did not have to leave their wives for war. Children had more autonomy as parents no longer dictated who and when they were going to love. However, as this freedom was increasingly integrated into American culture over time, the amount of love related songs dramatically dropped. In 1966, only 69.5% of produced songs were about love and courtship (Carey 723). Rock n roll provided the perfect form of expression in the 1950 s. It combined lyrical ties to radical social changes and catchy rhythms unique to its generation. What s Hip Now? The change tearing through America in the 1950 s persists to this day. 2010 has brought a busier, more materialistic, culture than ever before. The trends of women working outside of the home and increasing teenage autonomy persists. American teenagers are given more discretionary time than ever before in history. Reed Larson studied this continuing trend and explains, If we look back over the past 200 years, the most striking historic change in young people s use of time is that youths spend much less time on labor activities today than they did in America s agrarian past (160). • 5. Jane Eyre By Charlotte Bronte Following the experiences of Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte, expresses many elements of gothic literature throughout her novel Jane Eyre. In her perfect understanding of gothic literature, she expresses the three types of evil commonly found in gothic literature, including the evil of the supernatural, the evil within or the instinctual evil motives of humans, and lastly, the evil because of societal influence. Jane Eyre experiences all of these three evils with her aunt and three cousins with her residency and return to Gateshead: Jane encounters the supernatural and the evil of societal influence as a child and she fully encounters the evil within upon her return. As a child at Gateshead, one discovers the first form of evil in the novel with the negative interactions between Jane and her relatives, which sparks from both, physical inferiority, (Bronte 11) to her cousins, and as Bronte eventually states, her lack of money. Doing rather short work, the reader discovers Jane does not belong in Gateshead with her rich Aunt, Mrs. Reed, and her cousins, John, Georgina, and Eliza. Jane s three cousins cluster, around their mamma, (Bronte 11) in the opening of the novel, but Jane sits in solitary. She leaves to ask her aunt, What does Bessie say I have done? Each society is unique in their own different ways, and with these differences have come attractions, that make each society desirable, as well as things that make them inconvenient. • 10. Analysis Of The Film Dunkirk In Christopher Nolans most recent film, Dunkirk, he tells the story of allied soldiers being evacuated from Belgium, after the Germans surrounded them, also know as Operation Dynamo. As a huge fan of Nolan already, I thought this movie was a masterpiece. This was his first movie based on a war, and he did a great job retelling the history. He used an approach that had the actors use very little talking, and relied on the music and visuals to tell the story. The plot of Dunkirk revolves around the largest evacuation in military history, and involves troops across all allied nations. Nolan has three major settings for his movie, air, land, and sea. The air setting shows Tom Hardy as an allied pilot, providing protection to the beaches as troops attempt to load naval vessels. There are scenes where he is in dogfights with German planes, and he eventually gets shot down. The land setting involves the allied troops attempting to evacuate the beach with only a few naval vessels supporting the operation. There is constant chaos and confusion during the process, and many soldiers attempt to sneak on boats or escape on their own. Finally on the sea, there are parts where naval vessels have to deal with attacks from German airplanes, and some boats get sunk during the mission. There is also a time where it shows British civilians using their own personal boats to come to the rescue of the troops. Throughout the movie there is constant conflict ranging from equipment failure, to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They were already a small population and continued to get smaller. Upon the arrival of Constantine the great the rulings of the Roman empire began to change. The persecutions of Christians came to a halt when Constantine gained a role of higher power in the second Rome, leading to promotion of Christianity spread and the beginning of the new empire of Constantinople. Christians were only a small population found in the Roman empire. Due to the group being a minority they were seen as the scapegoats for all issues in the empire. They were blamed for anything from terrible weather to disease. Persecution of Christians began with blame, from emperor Nero in 64 AD, due to a simple fire in Rome. Due to their small population it was easy to discriminate and persecute them. However, upon Constantine s new rule of the empire the persecution of Christians comes to a halt. Constantines introduction to the Christian faith occurred during a defining battle. Maxentius and Constantine were in battle to gain the title of emperor of the Roman empire. A New Form of Expansion Essay A New Form of Expansion Before the start of the Spanish American War of the late nineteenth century and World War I in the early twentieth century, the United States had encouraged expansion as being a way of gaining power. For example, the Frontier thesis, conveyed that it is through the expansion of new lands that humanity would continue to progress. Also the United States portrayed its impatience to expand through Manifest Destiny: the desire to expand from sea to sea with the goal to own and cultivate as much land as possible. Foreign Affairs uses characters ideas on tourism and places emphasis on societal norms and the characters opinions of them as a catalyst to nudge the reader into this thought about common issues in society. Virginia (Vinnie) Miner, an advanced professor at Corinth University in the novel, illustrates societal behaviors and their impact on her. Furious, President Lincoln sent a letter the McClellan, telling that I have just read your dispatch about sore tongued and fatigued horses. • 23. Stevie Smith Poetry Analysis Smith s life reflected in poems As an English poet who lived through the age of unrest (1902 1971), Stevie Smith had a mysterious life. Although Smith claimed that the characters she wrote about did not exist outside her work, her novel is considered self reflective, and later turned into a play and a movie. Her unique poems also shed lights on her life. Stevie Smith s unusual life experiences and viewpoints impact her poems immensely in the aspects of simple forms, detached emotion, and uncanny themes. Smith s clear and calm regard of life defines the simple forms in her works. Avoiding cliches, her sentences directly penetrate people s mind. Her poems are influenced by the trend of light verse during her time. According to Bernard, ...... light verse is the English national neurosis, and the doggerel that has leapt from the pens of even the most serious of English poets is staggering (Bernard). Using the properties of a light verse, Smith is able to create a innocent tone, tricking people to laugh. At the same time, the seemingly delighted lines trigger people s contemplation for deeper layers of desolation. Many of her poems resembles ballads, lullabies, and nursery rhymes, accompanied by childlike doodles. These forms of poem appear simple and humorous, friendly to little children, and easy to recite and remember. For example, the poem Tender Only to One takes form in a lullaby with lilting meters. It begins with the flower plucking game, which indicates the childlike innocence and playfulness. However, as the poem unfolds, the uncertainty and eccentricity evolve. In the last stanza, the imageries of Latest breath , cry out aloud , and icy shroud (Poetry Foundation) all together create an eerie feeling, which leads to the solemn and heavy subject of death. Her narration style is consistent with her biography, for both of them are clear and crisp like checklists, representing a life measuring out in coffee spoons, punctuated by enthusiasms (Zarin), without euphuism and decoration. Stevie s works presents detached emotions and lurking darkness due to her childhood trauma and her social life. Her poem Voices about the Princess Anemone (Stevenson) contains elusive tones and passive attitude, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Analysis Of The Generation Of Monsters According to Jenny Strauss Clay, in their journal titled The Generation of Monsters in Hesiod, there is a natural hierarchy of men and beasts (Clay 112). As with any hierarchy, there are usually differences, or in this case distinguishing features of the divine, the bestial, and the human, which instinctively place some creatures above others (Clay 108). In the Greek and Roman myths that we read in class, this hierarchy is clearly shown through the relationship between the gods and monsters. As written in Theogony, all monsters derived from Gaia, however it is their appearances that set them apart from the gods. Clay defines being monstrous as being an anomaly. From birth, a monster does not fit into usual classifications, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, there are new standards for all beings. Greek and Roman monsters are hybrid creatures that unite normally disparate elements, like for example, the human and the bestial (Clay 106). It is their distinctive qualities that make them discriminated against. Sometimes, they involve a multiplication of human or animal features or they violate fundamental categories, for instance, mortal/immortal, young/old, and male/female (Clay 106). One example of this in the Aeneid is Cerberus. Once Aeneas and the Sibyl cross the river to get into the underworld, they see this multi headed dog that guarding the gates. As revealed in Theogony, Cerberus is also the offspring of two monsters, Echidna and Typhon (Hesiod, Theogony, 310 315). Like Clay wrote, the gods would view those who had multiples of the same feature as monsterous. Thus, it makes sense how in the Aeneid, Cerberus is described as having three throats, an enormous bulk, and serpents writh[ing] around his neck (Virgil, Aeneid, p. 198, 6.480 482). Because of this, the gods are fine with using him as a guard. They are taking advantage of him so that they don t have to deal with people trying to sneak out of the underworld. This is all because, as a monster, their excessive power or distinguishing features inspires fear, especially in those who rule . So Zeus is left neutralize the threat and then incorporate them into his new order (Clay ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Terrorist Attacks On The World Trade Center There is little doubt that the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11 drastically changed America s sense of security in recent years. Yet the country is facing another kind of threat, one that is not entirely different than the dangers of terrorism at a global scale: domestic terrorism. At its core, domestic terrorism differs from any other type of terrorism in the sense that those who carry it out are citizens or permanent residents of a given country and who inflict violence and intimidation against their fellow citizens or permanent residents in the pursuit of political aims (Sharpe, 2000, p. 606). In that sense, domestic terrorism may also be called homegrown terrorism. Perhaps the best, and most gruesome, example that shows the difference between domestic terrorism and other types of terrorism is the bombing of the World Trade Center. In the September 11 attacks, the perpetrators were Islamist jihadists who belong to al Qaeda, a Sunni Islamist organization that America eventually categorized as a network of terrorist groups. Most of the direct perpetrators themselves were from Saudi Arabia while the rest were from Egypt, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emirates (Bell, Clay, Murdie Piazza, 2014, p. 607). In other words, they were non citizens of America. In the aftermath of the attacks, authorities revealed that most of the victims were American citizens and permanent residents. On both occasions the Germans inflicted thousands of casualties and penetrated enemy lines but failed to achieve the hoped for decisive results. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an esterification reaction, a carboxylic acid reacts with an alcohol. The synthesis of aspirin is an esterification reaction. Initially, the proton, i.e. the hydrogen ion, from the acid attacks the acetic anhydride and attaches itself on a double bond oxygen. This makes the compound more electrophilic, meaning that it has a higher affinity for electrons. This is what sets off the reaction. The salicylic acid then acts as an alcohol and attaches its OH group onto a carbon on the acetic anhydride. Then, the hydrogen from the OH group (the alcohol group) of the salicylic acid falls off, forming a tetrahedral intermediate, and the hydrogen ion reassociates with the conjugate base of the acid used as the catalyst. Next, the hydrogen that came from the acid initially, transfers its electrons and forms a double between the adjacent oxygen and carbon. However, the hydrogen atom does not fall off after the transfer of electrons but is kept there with a positive charge. With this, another transfer of electrons occurs and an acetyl group is generated from the breaking of the acetic anhydride. Now, the acetyl group breaks off the positive hydrogen attached and acetic acid is generated as a result. With this, the ester, the aspirin, is created (Watson ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. The Acts of Leadership in Black Hearts Essay Introduction Deceased philosopher Bertrand Russell once said, War does not determine who is right only who is left . Those left are the soldiers of the 1 502nd, specifically Bravo Company 1st plt, and the Janabi family and to a greater extent, the ever changing global world we all live in today. The tragic events that conspired in a small Iraqi village became a microcosm of how leadership failures at every level shaped the actions of a few soldiers who committed atrocious acts. One can also see how a high operational tempo, along with prolonged violence and death, has on a person s psyche. It is the ugly side of war that the average American citizen may not want to hear or talk about. For a soldier, it is inevitably what they train their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... LTC Kunk s mission was twofold. His BN was to deploy to a region in the Euphrates valley that was south of Baghdad, dubbed the Triangle of Death . An American presence had only lightly occupied the area and the insurgency in that region was multiplying. They were unleashing havoc on American troops in the area as well as civilians. 1 502nd was also tasked with training a division within the Iraqi Army in the hope that they would secure the area once American troops departed for good. 1 502nd deployed to Iraq in October of 2005. LTC Kunk split his forces into 3 elements. Kunk gave his toughest missions to Bravo and Charlie companies. Their AO and FOB was away from the rest of the BN and violence was considered the worse in this area. Once the orders were received by the company commanders, each company pushed out to their respective FOBs. It did not take long for Bravo Company to start taking casualties. 1st PLT was being hit particularly hard. One of the first things Bravo Company did was set up TCPs in designated areas within and on the outskirts of the town. These were stationary targets that insurgents picked up on quickly. They attacked the TCPs frequently and the TCPs were normally guarded by a minimal amount of soldiers. IEDs were also affecting Bravo s combat strength within the AO. It did not take long for morale to drop, especially in 1st PLT. Within the first 4 months of the deployment, 1st PLT had lost their PL and PSG as well as a few Joes to IEDs ... • 47. Process Description Of Object Oriented Programming PROCESS DESCRIPTION OF OBJECT ORIENTED PROGRAMMING Introduction Object Oriented Programming is a programming paradigm emphasized on objects which consists of data attributes and methods (Lewis; Loftus). Data attributes are comparable to nouns while methods are comparable to verbs in English. For instance, a person represented by object, has name, age, and gender as its data attributes. The person will be able to think, speak, and write with the representation of methods in the object. The main purpose of learning Object Oriented Programming is to create programs that are maintainable and scalable. Maintainability is essential for programmers to understand the codes in a program. Therefore, the codes have to be concise and clear. Moreover, programs need to be easy to upgrade to accommodate changes in real world. Hence, we need to have the capability to build a program on another program. Object Oriented Programming enables programmers to program by modeling the real world instead of defining the logic of how the world works. It focuses more on what makes up an object rather than what the object does. Programmers can focus on creating small components or objects, and group them together based on their relationships to build a larger object, which can be built upon again in future. The process of developing the paradigm consists the following steps: Encapsulation, Inheritance, Data Abstraction, and Polymorphism. Discussion Encapsulation Encapsulation is an ...
