Invitation To Murder
Comparing and Contrasting An Invitation to a Murder and The Dying Detective An Invitation to a
Murder was written by Josh Pachter and The Dying Detective was scripted by Michael and Mollie
Hardwick. There are very distinct differences between the novella and script; however, they have
commonalities among them too. An Invitation to a Murder revolves around Eleanor Abbott and
twelve other men who stood by the law detectives, investigators, judges, and so on. Meanwhile, The
Dying Detective was about Sherlock Holmes framing a man for murder to prove that the man,
Culverton Smith was guilty for a punishable act. The audience can compare and contrast to indicate
these similarities and differences hidden in the two passages. First... Show more content on

A locked room mystery is a mystery in which a seemingly impossible crime is committed; for
example, a crime occurs in a room that does not allow an entrance or exit for the criminal. In this
case, it had seemed preposterous to how Mrs. Abbott was going to kill Mr. Abbott and blame the
twelve men. Branigan and Coszyck kept Mrs. Abbott in place, but by the time it was eleven o
clock, Mr. Abbott had died without Mrs. Abbott even laying a single finger on him! Another
difference was the poison used in the stories. In The Dying Detective , the poison was a plant
which killed Victor Savage, Smith s cousin. Smith attempted to use the same plant on Holmes in
order to murder him. Holmes had feigned his death at that time to fool Smith, so his trickery had
worked. Watson was hiding behind the bedhead, so he was able to confirm everything Smith s
nefarious acts. Whereas Mr. Abbott s medication was actually the poison used to kill Mrs. Abbott.
The twelve men decided and came to a verdict for Mrs. Abbott to take the pills that would be
venomous to her body and heart. Although both stories have situational irony in them, how the
irony was utilized differs. The situational irony in An Invitation to a Murder is how Mrs. Abbott
planned to blame the twelve men for her husband s murder, yet she was killed. Eleanor Abbott was
confident she would be free, instead she had her life taken away

Personal Narrative On Jenny
At age 10, I would hide notes in her yard, I would stick deep within the bushes or far within the
trees. I had bought fake blood at Benny s Halloween Store and would run the bright liquid prop
across the trees sometimes on the notes. Every note lead to another clue. Every clue lead to her
discovering something. At one point the final note lead to a barbie doused in blood. I wasn t
always that mean though. Sometimes she would find things such as money or candy. Solving
mysteries was her favorite hobby. She was excellent at it. She was addicted to the suspense
brought by it. Although, the older we got, the less in touch we were. I was mowing my lawn when
I saw a girl running. She was in beat up clothing without any shoes on her feet. She was... Show

I forgot that she is very uneasy about certain things. Being stubborn was in her blood. It still
frustrates me every time. However, I could not let that distract me during this time of the crime
scene. Upon arrival, I was told that the victim s file was ready to be analyzed once I was done
investigating the crime scene. The front of the house was a military green color which was very
unusual. The garage happened to be the same color and the porch was very small in size with two
concrete stairs leading up to the front door. There were many bushes, shrubs and various flowers
planted throughout the yard. Two old wooden steps lead to a side door to the house. I started by

Twain And Regionalism
Writing in the late 19th century, both Mark Twain and Ambrose Bierce were part of the Realism
literary period, which lasted from 1865 to 1900. Their writings, especially those of Twain, helped
to chart the course of American literature. Despite being in the Realism period, their stories are also
part of other eras. Writingmainly toward the beginning of the era and coming from a small
Midwest village, Twain was greatly influenced by Regionalism. Bierce, on the other hand, drew
much of his ideas from the period that followed Realism: Naturalism. While Mark Twainand
Ambrose Bierce both primarily wrote Realism, Twain s writings have a bent for Regionalism, while
Bierce s short stories lean towards Naturalism. Samuel Clemens, better known as... Show more

Bierce, however, has a Naturalist inclination. According to him, humans live in a vast and
completely indifferent universe which we cannot fully grasp or perceive (Williams). This very
concept is the essence of Naturalism, which features many of the varying details that are
common in Bierce s writings. One such detail is a use of grotesque but matter of fact details,
which is prevalent in Chickamauga, which includes a man that has a face that lacked a lower
jaw from the upper teeth to the throat was a great red gap fringed with hanging shreds of flesh
and splinters of bone (Bierce, Ambrose. Chickamauga ), as well as the dead body of a woman the
white face turned upward, the hands thrown out and clutched full of grass, the clothing deranged,
the long dark hair in tangles and full of clotted blood (Bierce, Ambrose. Chickamauga ). Bierce
also depicts war, fear, and death as unstoppable forces that make worms meat be [t]he finished
product of which we are the raw material (Bierce, Ambrose. The Devil s Dictionary). This idea of
the presence of great omnipotent powers that are beyond the understanding of humans is one
unique to Naturalism, and proves that he was strongly influenced by the Naturalism

Biography Of Eleanor Darnall Carroll
home was Darnall s Chance, a plantation of 27,000 acres which his mother, Eleanor Darnall
Carroll, had inherited from her grandfather.[2] His younger brother John was the first Roman
Catholic bishop in the United States (as Archbishop of Baltimore, 1790) and founder of
Georgetown University; his cousin Charles Carroll of Carrollton signed the Declaration of
Independence. Carroll was sent abroad for his education. Between 1742 and 1748 he and John
studied under the Jesuits at the College of St. Omer in France, established for the education of
English Catholics. Then, after a tour of Europe, he sailed home and soon married Eleanor Carroll,
apparently a first cousin of another cousin, Charles Carroll of Carrollton.[3] In the 1770s, Carroll

Bmc Recovery
Abstract The purpose of this experiment was to test the correlation of heart recovery rates post
exercise in both athletes and non athletes and determine which group had the faster recovery rate.
This was accomplished by selecting six non athletes and six athletes to run one lap around the
Fresno Pacific track for two days. Each participant s resting heartrate was taken before running the
lap and instantly after running the lap as well. Upon completion of the lap their heart ratewas
measured in thirty second intervals and it was noted how long it took to get back down to each
initial resting heart rate again. Due to the athletes training it was hypothesized that they would have
the faster recovery rate because they d be more conditioned... Show more content on

The subjects were given a survey on their health as to avoid injured or asthmatic variables. Also
they were all required to be in the healthy BMI range and the athletes were from one sport and
the non athletes had a strict definition of exercise as less than twice a week. However, a few
errors could have slipped through. For example when recording the participants heart rate. The
pulse was sometimes hard to locate requiring more time to look for it after their lap run and
perhaps lose data in the process. Another possible error that could have occurred was taking the
recovery times. The majority of the participant trials were done by one project partner making it
difficult to monitor the thirty second intervals while measuring and recording the heart rates as
well. In future studies these errors may be avoided by requiring all the researchers be present for
the experiment in order to secure more definitive results. Another issue that occurred was the
participants failing to show up, more so in the athlete group, which left a hole in hour
experimental data because we were unable to reach the intended six athlete total due to this issue.
Future researchers should attempt to have all the athlete and non athlete participants together at
one time for each day. This would avoid having to come back day by day and remember who did
one day and who s

The Nursing Career
Nurses entering this specialty must highlight not only their clinical skills, but also their critical
thinking, advocacy and analytical abilities. Communities are dynamic, and nurses must adapt to
and be able to provide patients with whatever care is needed. (Meadows, 2009). The PHN uses
clinical knowledge along with an ecological viewpoint. A public healthnurse can practice in clinics,
healthdepartments, faith based organizations, mobile vans, homes, correctional facilities,
occupations, community centers and hospitals. There is no setting that a public health nurse cannot
practice to deliver a community focused intervention.
Delivering a successful intervention can be challenging but with learning competencies and skills,
the PHN can achieve results. At all times the focus must be on the health needs of an entire
population including imbalances and the unique needs of sub populations. A PHN must be
analytical by defining a problem and use data to determine an effective solution. A PHN must be
able to communicate effectively, and understand how the media delivers information.
Of great importance is the role of cultural competency in public health nursing. Cultural competency
is the ability to effectively consider the worldviews, healthcare practices and preferences of people
from diverse, racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. The PHN must put an
emphasis on prevention and focuses attention to multiple determinates of health. The skill of

Why I Want To Become A Nail Technician
Growing up in a single parent household can be tough in terms of pleasing your parent. You re
not able to go and get a second opinion from another parent when making decisions. If he/she
doesn t agree with your decision it leaves a bad taste in your mouth because you don t want to
disappoint him/her. My mother probably expected me to graduate college with my associate s
degree and land a job at IBM. Introducing the idea of me becoming a nail technician to her was
nerve wrecking. I expected rejection followed by a lecture about what would be a better career
path for me. Surprisingly after explaining to her why I chose the beauty industry, my long term

set of nails. Nails have become a part of a female s wardrobe. Everywhere I go someone
compliments my nails and my nail selfies always receive a lot of likes. I m on social media every
day and I keep up with the latest trends. It s only right that I join the beauty industry.
Not only am I surrounded by beauticians but a few of them are successful salon owners. I too
hope to own a nail studio. I didn t just choose to be a part of this industry but I set goals for
myself once I receive my license. Before I become a salon owner I have to prepare myself for
the responsibility that comes with it. One of my friends offered me a position at her salon after
I obtain my certificate. This is the perfect opportunity because I ll be able to see firsthand the
responsibilities of being an owner, and I will still get the experience of paying booth rent. I notice
that the nail salons in my area rarely do promotions. At my friend s salon not only do the
beauticians have promotions, but they offer packages for the clients. We talked about adding
manicures to the packages which could build my clientele. I d be able to attract girls in high school

Brief Paper #1
Both Jane Addams and Saul Alinsky, worked to enact social change within the poor neighborhoods
of Chicago. Both would also go on to inspire many other social changes due to their methodologies
and accomplishments. However, Addams and Alinsky s approaches to bring about social change
are often described as being polar opposites. One could argue though, that despite these superficial
differences, Addams and Alinsky shared a commonality that is not often talked about. Jane Addams
started the Hull House. She brought services to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This falls back to Alinsky s do anything to win mentality and win he did. The BYNC housed the
infant station and the Chicago Settlement never regained its footing within the community. Alinsky
had again proved the effectiveness of his methods (Hamington, 2010). Addams and Alinsky appear
to have very different organizing philosophies. Alinsky himself often commented how his methods
were so different than those of the settlement houses. These comments however, should have been
more directed at what the settlement houses had become and not at the originating principles of
Jane Addams Hull House. Jane Addams herself would likely disapprove of the direction that the
settlement houses had moved towards. Addams and Alinsky both recognized the importance of
listening and learning the needs of the community in order to gain perspective. Addams recognized
that when existing social institutions do not provide a reasonable means for citizen participation,
those citizens will organize to resist... Similarly, Alinsky viewed his organizations as fully
democratic [stating]: This kind of organization can be built only if people are working together for
real, attainable objectives (Hamington, 2010). The connections between the philosophies of
Addams and Alinsky are inextricably linked. The resonance between the social philosophies of
Addams and Alinsky is not surprising if the Chicago School connection is taken into account.

Repercussions In Education
The United States is no longer the leader in education standards and in fact is no longer even
making the top ten when it comes to reading, math, and science literacy rankings among the world
for education (Learning Curve, 8). The repercussions are that college graduates are not as
competitive globally as they once were and obtaining desired careers are more competitive than
ever, having an ultimate result of slowing down the economy. Due to these conditions, education
reform needs to be dealt with immediately as it will take years of implementation before any
positive results are actually achieved. Despite the introduction of common core, and no child left
behind, the schoolsystem is still failing students who are unqualified to even enter... Show more

Parents that have spoken out risk upsetting a teacher that will be looking after their child for the
rest of the year, many teachers express the opinion that parents are not qualified to help their
children as they have not had pedagogy training. Parents need to be allowed to voice opinions and
concerns when it comes to their children s well being without fear of repercussions. There are
numerous ways that parents should become involved in education reform. In New York City,
parents withheld their children from participating in standardized testing; proclaiming that too
much time was spent on training for the tests and not enough time and faith was given to the
teachers to teach according to their best judgement and training. Instead of waiting on politicians to
lead the change in education reform parents need to start change themselves on a local level by
participating heavily in the schools that their children attend. Getting to know the teachers and
administration allows parents to have a voice about concerns and problems that they witness
firsthand as well as being active voters for members of the school board. Those that complain that
the nation is no longer a competitive learning source should in turn become actively involved in
education

Cold War Readings Devil s Advocate
Cold War Readings Devil s Advocate Response For my response, I have chosen to focus in on
some of the statements provided by the Nussbaum reading as well as JFK s City Upon a Hill
speech. As the group s Devil s Advocate, I will strive to make logical and realistic counterpoints to
some of the information from the readings that I found either unseemly, disingenuous, or unrealistic
as it relates to our modern world.
The Nussbaum (it literally means Nut Tree in German) reading focused primarily on the idea that
higher education should emphasize the ethical role and moral obligations of a global citizen, one
that travels among other cultures and recognizes, or even adapts to, the cultural tenets of the so
called other. Two points of focus... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kennedy recanted to his audience during his famous City Upon a Hill speech the message that
Pericles gave to the Athenian people: We do not imitate for we are a model to others. In a
similar fashion to the Nussbaum article, Kennedy addressed the distinctions between a local
identity and a national identity, especially in relation to the obligations that one must hold to
one or the other. In his case, Kennedy was making the appeal that despite his rise to power on a
national level as President of the United States, he would still maintain his traditional views
fostered by his Massachussetts upbringing. It was here my grandparents were born, he said, it is
here I hope my grandchildren will be born. Therefore, even though Kennedy is recognizing his
moral obligation to the country on a national level as its President, he is maintaining discourse
with his local identity. An objection that I took with this message was that even though I found
myself agreeing with a fair portion of its content, I m not entirely bought on the idea that one
should necessarily feel bound by obligation to their nation, especially when one can t help the
circumstances of their birth. What if my nation is inherently flawed, or even lawfully evil like
Nazi Germany am I still bound by obligation to my nation? Because I happen to live here, am I
robbed of my own agency to choose whether or not I support my government? Secondly, Kennedy
addresses his audience with Pericles famous statement to the people of Athens, that We do not
imitate. Ignoring the inherent flaws of American exceptionalism, I think it is a fundamental
injustice to declare that one must only submit to original ideas of governance, rather than looking
outward to other models for inspiration. Our founding fathers used primarily recycled ideas from
the Enlightenment in order to craft the documents that would create America as we know it today,
and so I do not think

Sidney Bechet s Major Accomplishments
Sidney Bechet was one of many fantastic up and coming jazz musicians in the Roaring Twenties.
He started on the clarinet, but eventually became one of the first performers to adopt the soprano
saxophone as a main instrument, as well as one of the first to improvise with the swing style of
jazz. In addition, he was one of the first artists to record using a multitrack which was a way of
recording where you would play back the track from one instrument while you recorded with
another instrument and continued this process until you had all of the instruments you wanted.
These strides helped Bechet stand out from other musicians as he progressed through his career.
Bechet grew up in a musical household and toured with popular bands from a young age. His
father and four brothers all played instruments, so his passion for music came as no shock.

Bechet s compositions includes Les Oignons, Promenade aux Champ ElysГ©es, Petite Fleur, Si
Tous Vous ma MГЁre, Chant in the Night, Blues in the Air, Bechet s Fantasy, Quincy Street Stomp,

melodies. He was also known for his improvisation, solos like those of Louis Armstrong, and
especially for conveying intense emotion through his music. Duke Ellington, a fellow jazz
musician, once described Bechet as The very epitome of jazz, everything he played in his entire
life was completely original. I honestly think he was the most unique man ever to be in this music.
Throughout his career he played in the Marion Cook s Syncopated Orchestra, Louis Mitchell s
Jazz King, Duke Ellington s Washingtonians, and the Noble Sissle Orchestra. He also went on to
teach Bob Wilbur who also became a famous clarinetist and saxophonist. Bechet made the most of

Drug Conhibition And Drug Prohibition In The United States
Alcohol didn t cause the high crime rate of the 20s and 30s, prohibition did. And drugs do not
cause today s alarming crime rates, but drug prohibition does ( Badnarik). Although Congress had
great intentions by banning alcohol and drugs, it made living in America that much more difficult.
The passage of the 18th amendment contributed to the rise of illegal activities carried out by

The 18th amendment states After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture,
sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the
exportation thereof from the United States and all territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for
beverage purposes is hereby prohibited. The Congress and the several States shall have

inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the constitution by the
legislatures of the several states, as provided in the constitution, within seven years from the
date of the submission hereof to the States by the Congress (Grossman 469 ). After this was
ratified on January 16, 1919, it was going to create a problem that no one saw coming with full

Mars Solar Exchange
Just six days before Valentina s scheduled landing, the Earth Space Center observed a strong
corona mass ejection, which was caused by the differential rotation of the sun, pointing at the
direction of Mars. The distorted magnetic field of the sun created a solar flare at the corona, and
subsequently released large amount of electromagnetic radiation and charged particles
(EurekAlert 2010). The energy released by a corona mass ejection could be as great as 1020 J
(NASA, What is a Solar Flare? n.d.). The charged particles were ejected at a speed of 500 km/s, and
the charged particles would reach Valentina s spacecraft in five days. Engineers gathered in the

Wernher admitted that current satellites were vulnerable, but he highly doubted the probability for

Three weeks later, Wernher informed Valentina that his research team concluded that the risk for
Mars communication satellites to be destroyed during solar activities were too small, so the Mars
Base would not launch any new communication satellites in the near future. Valentina was not
convinced. She was so afraid that Mars would loss contact with Earth so that she could no longer

our dorms. Other students I asked stated that during the week, there s very little chance of getting a

The Difference Between The Art Of Picasso And Braque
Modernist Assault:
1. We know that experts had trouble being able to tell the difference between the works of Picasso
and Braque. Defend whether or not this made each artist s work any less original.
It does not make their art any less original. Originality is about creativity and innovation. While
their work was similar, it was the only of it s kind at the time. They pioneered the path of cubism
side by side. I would not consider this to be unoriginal, but a tandem effort to make their own art.
Surely, they challenged one another which pushed their art to new heights. I don t think cubism
would be what it is today without both artists, as they were at the forefront of creating new art
during that period.
2. Filippo Tommaso Marinetticlaimed that the motor car was more beautiful than the marble statue
of the winged Nike. Develop an explanation that agrees or disagrees with Marinetti.
I can understand Marinetti s claim that the motor car was more beautiful than the marble statue of
the winged Nike. However, I don t agree with his claim. The motor car is an ingenious creation
that required great minds to create, but the question is about beauty. Marble statues bent to the will
of man are truly beautiful to me. The statue of Nike is one of my favorites. The way the clothing
flows as you can see the tension on the skin makes it far more beautiful to me than a car. Finally,
there is something about taking one block of marble, and making it into what they envisioned.

Hobo Dyer Essay
1 The Hobo Dyer map is a bit confusing; where the South and North are on opposite direction of
the map I am used to. The compass used on the Hobo Dyer map is different than the compass used
in a normal map; the map is upside down. In terms of territories, the United States of America is
located in North America between Canada and Mexico. China is located in Asia between Thailand,
Mongolia, Nepal, and etc.
According to my research, in terms of population, China has greater population than the United
States of America. China s population is 1.382 billion, while USA s population is 318.9 million.
The following five countries are permanent members of the UN Security Council with their
location on the Hobo Dyer map: a China: is located in the northeast of Asia. b France: is located
in east Europe. c United Kingdom: is located in the southwest of Europe. d United States of
America: is located in North America. e Russia: is located between south Asia and west Europe.
Size of Africa is much more larger than the size of Europe. Approximately, three Europes would fit
inside Africa.

think appearances matters today. For example, when we see fashionable people we tend to say
they are rich or they come from the higher class in the community and vice versa. Sometimes we
falsely assume about cultural differences. When people judge someone based on their culture, they

The Middle Ages Essay
The Song of Roland is the Emblem of the Middle Ages
The Middle Ages was an era of invasions. It was a dark time in England and across Europe.
Where Islam was taking over, the crusades had to take action against that and spread Christianity
instead. Values and beliefs were driven from the church. On the other hand, Feudalism, which
stands for the power of the land was taking over. All these incidents and more inspired the poets
and writers to create literature that expressed what was happening in the Middle Ages. One of these
productions was the Song of Roland it is one of the oldest epic poems that was written in France. In
my view the following points taken from this magnificent poem, focus on the values of this era:
church was spreading wrong conceptions against Islam in order to spread Christianity; rules and
values in society were imposed by the church, when people where believers in god ; land owners
are the most powerful in society, that lead to feudalism; one of the knights merits is complying to
orders; noble knights fight alone when in need for help till the last breath; vicious sins like
falsehood and betrayal are dammed by the kingdom.
The Church was spreading wrong conceptions about Islam in order to spread Christianity; The
Song of Roland purposely draws negative images about the faith of Islam and semi Muslims. And
associated them with devils, in (laisse 78) Rain does not fall nor dew collect. There is no stone,

Really Simple Syndication Allows for Updated Information

RSS (Rich Site Summary) originally RDF Site Summary; often called
Really Simple Syndication uses a domestic of standard feed plans to publish frequently updated
information: new entries, news headlines, audio, and video. An RSS document is also called feed
includes full or summarized text, and metadata, like publishing date and author s name.
This allows users to get and understand the information, so that all of the lists they re interested in
can be tracked and modified for them. It is a format that s planned for use by computers on behalf
of people, rather than being directly offered to them (like HTML).
A standard XML file format guarantees compatibility with many diverse machines/programs. RSS
feeds also advantage users who want to receive timely updates from favorite websites or to

Discourse Community Analysis Essay example
The Journey of A Successful Soccer Player
In order to be accepted into a discourse community, a person must learn typical ways people in that
community communicate and argue. In this paper I will prove that I entered the discourse
community of my high school soccer team by acquiring knowledge, establishing my credibility,
and learning the game I love. In other words, I will be using the ethos, logos, and pathos appeals. I
love to play soccer and watch the professionals who play on TV. I have played since I was ten years

simple but at the same time very hard. I was recently part of my high school soccer team, the

In soccer you must be able to communicate with not only one, but with all of your team mates.
This is something we worked on from the start. We communicated in many different ways such
as training on a daily basis, to enduring a punishment together as a team. Even calling each other
out became a common way of communicating. Everyone in the team had to learn to collaborate
with each other even if they didn t like it. It seemed kind of pointless at first but it was all part of
building chemistry with each other. It was difficult year after year loosing and gaining people to
be able to accept new players in to our family. Coach King was one of the greatest coaches I have

we viewed him. He made it clear to us that we just had understand his meaning of the word GAS.
GAS meant grades, attitude, and then skill. Grades of course were the most important thing
because no pass no play was the rule. Most of the guys had no problems with this but there was
quite a few that had some trouble. When one was struggling we all had to step up and help if we
wanted to have a full squad for our next few games. We did many things to help them including
getting help from tutors or teachers when in danger of failing. As the year went on, many obstacles
were thrown at us and we counted on each other to get through them.

Cultural Relativism Is Important For Many Reasons
Cultural Relativism is defined as, The principle that an individual s beliefs and activities should
be understood by others in terms of that individual s own culture . Wilson talked about this term
extensively in his class and he noticed a common trend within his classroom. The trend was that
his students warned him, Not to be judgmental or to impose your values on other people. (Soccio
2007). This is a common trend found with a lot of people in my opinion. In fact, I have the same
belief as many of Wilson s students. Cultural relativismis important for many reasons. First, having
a sense of cultural relativism provides people with a form of tolerance towards other cultures.
Second, it helps people understand acts or actions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When these two cultures were told any other way of disposing of their dead, they were completely
shocked and almost disgusted (Rachels 2015). This helps support the fact that different cultures
have different practices and therefore different moral codes. Furthermore, if different cultures have
different moral codes and practices that are based on their own personal culture, another culture
should not be able to judge them, simply because they are unique to that culture. Tolerance is
another good quality that comes with cultural relativism. Tolerance helps us have a sort of
explanation on why other cultures act the way they do. It gives the reason of an action or act
being based on one s culture rather than because of the type of individual that they are. Take a
cultural group such as the Eskimos. The Eskimos believe in and practice infanticide throughout
their villages (Rachels 2015). This practice is considered highly wrong in American cultures, but
is considered morally acceptable in cultures like the Eskimo (Rachels 2015). What a lot of
people forget to take into account is the reason the Eskimos perform infanticide. It is not because
they are cruel people, no, it is because they are thinking about the possible future life of the child
and the future life of their village. Another baby is simply another mouth to feed, a task which can
be difficult for some Eskimo families. Therefore, in order to prevent a bad life for the baby

Greed In King Henry Viii
Imagine a world were you can not say something you may feel without the fear of being the next
victim of the execution s, or when your religion is changed due to the greed of one king and
everything you were taught to believe comes tumbling down. During the reign of King Henry
VIII from 1491 1547 that s exactly how most people felt. He was a selfish king, corrupted by
greed and lust with no sense of empathy towards his people. King Henry showed he was an awful
king over and over again with the Act of Supremacy , the dislike his people had for him, and
earning the title of the man who executed the most men and women during his time as king.
Henry s reign caused major troubled for England. There was an increase in unemployment, raising
the rents and fines for farmers, (Sparknotes) but the main thing that devastated England and its
people was The Reformation. The Reformation saw the breaking away of the English Church
from the Catholic Church in Rome in 1534 and the installation of King Henry VIII as its Supreme
Head (Robinson). Henry married Katherine of Aragon in 1527, he had multiple affairs through out
the marriage and was desperate for a male heir. They were married for over twenty years until
Henry s lustful eyes meant that of Anne Boleyn. Anne Boleyn drove Henry mad with lust refusing
to submit to him until she was Queen of England. Henry VIII tried and tried again to get Katherine
out of picture but many priest were against the divorce and refused to grant it.

Shakespeare s Sonnet #73 Essay
Shakespeare s Sonnet #73, published in 1609, is written in the Shakespearean or English sonnet
style. It consists of three quatrains and one couplet at the end, written in iambic pentameters. Each
quatrain has its own rhyme scheme, rhyming in alternating lines. The couplet summarizes the
preceding twelve lines. Sonnet 73 appears to contain multiple parallels to death and the person
speaking in the poem gives the impression that he is near death and reflecting back upon life.
The first quatrain, That time of the year thou mayst behold me/ When yellow leaves, or none, or few

Meaning, death will come, without question. He plays upon the sun setting, which in some
cultures was a god dying every evening (and he would be reborn every morning). The sun setting
could also be regarded as the sun going to sleep, which plays on the last line of the quatrain,
quot;Death s second self, which seals upon rest. quot; This line talks of the eternal sleep, or death.
This quatrain suggests a night without the possibility of day, quot;seals upon rest. quot;
In the third quatrain, In me the glowing of such fire/ That on the ashes of his youth doth lie/ As
the deathbed whereon it must expire/ Consuming with that which it was nourished by. He seems
to compare his life to fire, burning bright in youth, when energy and ideas bound forth, but
eventually it all turns to ashes, fragments of the passing youth, essentially death. He also makes
implications of lying upon the ashes, his deathbed, of days gone by, days when he was young and
full of energy. The fire proposes finality, the non cyclical process that night and the seasons are part
of, which Shakespeare has worked towards in the poem.

Restorative justice is a very complex process in the justice system. It is a positive program that
helps in the aid of victims of crimes. The process for restorative justice is broken down into steps
which map out how the process should take place. According to Johnstone, Restorative justice is
the theory that justice aids the victim and emphasizes the repair of harm caused by unjust or
harmful behavior. In my opinion the restorative justiceprocess is a great accomplishment to the
justice system. Restorative justice does not always work as intended but the theory of which it is

The Effects Of Creating A Central Hub On The Griffith...
There would be positive and negative effects of creating this central hub on the Griffith campus.
The effects would also be split in to time frames, whether they are short term or long term effects.
There are going to be fewer positive effects in the short term but there will be more positive effects
in the longer term. The negative short term effects of expanding the library would be the congestion
caused by the original construction of the development. This construction would create traffic due
to the closure of roads near the site of the expansions. Positive short term effects could be the
opportunity of local students in Griffith University Gold CoastCampus to help with the construction
planning or the design of the expansion. The markets at night would also have some short term
effects also creating traffic problems throughout the campus. This would only create problems at the
timeof the markets are being held. There wouldn t be any negative long term effects of the
markets apart from the green space not being able to be used on those nights for the future. There
are numerous positives effects of the markets being held at Griffith. The positive short term effects
would create a steady income for those involved in the markets. The markets will also help
advertise local produce to the wider community, supporting local farmers around the area and
enticing local farmers to come down to the campus and sell their produce.

Espionage Act Pros And Cons
In 1919, the Supreme Court had justified the cause of clear and present danger . This was exercised
relating to Charles Schenck releasing thousands of flyers to American servicemen recently drafted
to fight in World War I. The flyers described the draft as being involuntary servitude . The flyer
states that the government had no right to send American citizens to other countries to kill people.
It also mentioned that the war itself was motivated by capitalist greed, and urged draftees to petition
for repeal of the draft. Since this event Schenck was charged because of the recently enacted
Espionage Act. This act made any utterance that was considered disloyal toward the U.S.
government, the Constitution, or the military completely illegal. Schenck responded that the
Espionage Act violated the First Amendment of the Constitution. The Constitutional issue within
this court case was that it violated the 1st amendment, given the freedom of speech. But everyone
else would argue back that the 1917 Espionage Act was already in place. But this too would be
unconstitutional. Against this test, the Court upheld the Espionage Act and affirmed Schenck s
conviction, finding that his speech had created a clear and present danger of insubordination in

Who Is The Puritans In The Crucible
In today s world, people are very accepting. However in early America, Puritans pushed others to
be perfect which resulted in pressure. Puritan literature such as: The Scarlet Letter, the Crucible,
and the speech, Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God are some of the most popular of this
genre. The Scarlet Letter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is a story of a women who made a
fatal mistake and had to pay for it by public shaming. The Crucible is a play by Arthur Miller
written of a town in hysteria because of a false belief of witches. Lastly, Sinners in the Hands of
an Angry God, by Jonathan Edwards, is a speech given that started the Great Awakening using fear
to convert the Puritans from their evil ways. Throughout these pieces, it is obvious that there is

come down on them because of his great mercy and love (2). The speech described that the
waters are constantly rising and waxing more and more mighty; and there is nothing but mere
pleasure of God that holds the waters back (2). As people keep on sinning, God s wrath was
risen and it was only God s love and grace that kept the people from death. Edwards stated that
only if they repented would God s anger not throw them into hell. Edwards convinced the people

A Summary On Parkinson s Disease
Introduction
In 1817, James Parkinson first described a disease, later to be known as Parkinson s Disease
(PD) as a; neurodegenerative disorder affecting the physical, psychological, social, and
functional status of individuals (Parkinson Society Canada Staff, 1965). In the time since the
disease was first described, the frequency of individuals affected with the disease has increased,
with no single cause yet to be identified as the culprit for the onset of the disease. According to
the Parkinson s society Society of Canada, approximately one hundred thousand Canadians live
with this debilitating disease (Parkinson Society Canada Staff, 1965). Not only has no successful
cure for Parkinson s been developed, there has yet to be any diagnostic tools developed that prove
any suredefinite diagnosis (Parkinson Society Canada Staff, 1965). To this point, Parkinson s is a
disease that continues to impact a higher percentage of the population each year, with no true hope
being given to those that struggle with the impairment. The purpose of this paper is to provide a
summary of our knowledge on PD to date, describing the physiology behind the deficits that PD is
responsible for, the known causes and risk factors, the signs and symptoms, and finally any known
treatments that help to reduce the impairments of PD.

Bosnia Herzegovin A Rough History
Body: Bosnia Herzegovina has a rough history, especially with its neighboring countries.
Tensions in the Balkans increased after World War II. Bosnia Herzegovina went from a prime
example of cultural unity to the exact opposite due to the dissolution of Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia
was created at the end of World War I, when Bosnian, Croat, and Slovenian territories joined that
of the Serbian Empire. Yugoslavia was split up during World War II, but was once again unified
at the end by Josip Broz Tito. Due to cultural differences, remembrance of WWII events, and the
death of Josip Broz Tito, Yugoslavia, once again, broke up in the early 1990s. My parents were
born and raised in different parts of Yugoslavia, but with the break up of Yugoslavia, and wars
that followed between Bosnia and Serbia, my parents had to escape to Germany (where my
brother and I would soon be born). Growing up I always heard about how great it was to live in a
Yugoslavia that was ruled by Josip Broz Tito, it was a place where people got along with one
another. However, that would soon change. In an essay written by Alan Fraser, he describes the
conditions of Yugoslavia during the time of unity. In his opening sentence he says the first thing I
noticed about Yugoslavia was the ease and honesty, the trust people had for each other, treating one
another like family. The quote speaks volumes, especially coming from a foreigner to the region.

My First Encounter With Pulleys
Let s talk about pulleys today! I have some pulleys here. Will anyone assemble them? My high
school physics teacher looked around our classroom.
I raised my hand, walked to the front of the classroom and took up a pulley. Bending down, I
concentrated hard on the system in front of me.
This scene brought me back to my first encounter with pulleys in the science center years ago. A
voice echoed in my mind loudly and clearly: Don t be obsessed and carry on! The story of that day
started to unfold before my eyes.
As I walked into the City Science Center, I found the very place which had appeared in my
dream hundreds of times: a large interactive science area. As I had always expected, the science
center included not only topics I was curious about, but also topics of which I had never heard.
For a seven year old, there was a lot to explore and I remember myself wishing I could try them all
at once. So after saying Cheese! perfunctorily in front of my mom s camera, I ran into the nearest
exhibition without any hesitation.
Tired of controlling the flow of the waterfall model with my voice, I noticed some other kids
pushing around small carts. They were building houses! I immediately joined the group. To build
a balcony for the house, I had to elevate building materials to the second floor. According to the
instruction of the project, I was supposed to achieve the task with the help of pulleys. How did
pulleys work? How did I use a pulley? Which kind of pulleys should I use?

Why Eddie Van Halen is an Influential Musician Essay
There are certain musicians that come along that shift a culture, attitude, or future musicians.
Another musician that went on influence future generations and considered one of the greatest
guitar players in the world is Eddie Van Halen. Eddie Van Halen was born in Holland in 1955
and immigrated to Pasadena California. At the age of seven, Eddie was training as a classical
pianist, although his love for Rock and Roll was developing. He started working a paper route and
used the money to buy a drum set. His brother Alex, also musically inclined, bought a guitar. After
months of practicing, Alex and Eddie switched instruments. Alex would spend hours on Eddie s
drums and loved to play them. Eddie, a little frustrated with the drums,... Show more content on

A little later, Eddie heard Michael Anthony on the bass and thought that he was perfect for their

let David Lee Roth be the front man, mainly to save the rent money on the PA system. David Lee
came on board and thought the brother s last name sounded cool, and the rock group Van Halenwas
born. On one particular show, Gene Simmons from Kiss caught Van Halen at the local gig. He
offered to help them out. Gene Simmons flew Van Halen to New York to tape a demo and
introduced them to the Kiss production management. They had no interest in Van Halen citing
that there was no commercial value to Van Halen, so the band went back to their local gigs in
California. During a show in Hollywood, Warner Brothers records representative Ted Templeman
saw their act and signed them less than a week later for a record deal with the Warner brother s
label. They headed out on the road immediately and caught up with Warner Brothers headliners to
open their shows. The other groups were not very pleased with the band, especially when Van
Halen started getting better reviews. Van Halen was then off to England to open for another band
that Eddie idolized, Black Sabbath. Ozzie was so impressed with the band that he admitted that
Van Halen was outplaying Sabbath. At least that is what Ozzie said according to the Van Halen
camp.

on earth. Although Beowulf is a fine piece of writing on its own, it fails to tell all of the story,
just like any other one sided story does. But, thanks to the novel, Grendel, written by John
Gardner, we get to peek inside the villain s life for a change, which ultimately very well may
change the reader s view of the story completely. These two versions of the same story are told
from two different perspectives, Grendel s (the monster) and Beowulf s (the epic hero), the
story told in Beowulf s favor insinuates that Grendel is a terrible monster with no soul, whose
whole life is dedicated to killing anything and everything in his sight. However, in Grendel, we
see a completely different side of Grendel that isn t over shadowed by the hatred that the people
have on Grendel. In the book, Grendel, we learn about Grendel, and how he feels about himself.
We are taken on a journey through the last twelve months of Grendel s life and what lead up to

Rebellion In We Real Cool

Title Rebellion can be many things from a thrilling journey to a death wish. It can hide itself in
many situations. Rebellion can also bring itself out whether to fight against social conformity,
overthrowing an authoritarian government, or even going after a self interest. When rebellion
does show itself, the consequences that come with it are unpredictable. Rebellion is a risk that
can lead to a great adventure, or it can ruin your life. One technique Rebellion can do its damage is
death. Rebellion isn t always obvious and can be found in places most people are unaware of. It can
use disguises and be misinterpreted. In We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks, the boys can be seen

Brook s We Real Cool and Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeronboth refused to conform with society.
Harrison Bergeron was also similar to Ellison s Repent, Harlequin! in that they re fighting an
authoritarian government that goes against their freedoms in some way. And Updike s A P can be
compared to Frost s The Road Not Taken due to the self interest and desire they had for the
experience they wanted. Rebellion can present itself in many scenarios, but eventually, the
consequences that come along are unpredictable.

Ukraine And The Russian Ukrainian Conflict
The breadbasket of Eastern Europe is having a problem with militants who have killed and have
tortured hundreds of people in the name of freedom. The militants, Pro Russian rebels native to
Ukraine, believe that their actions against the government are just. Those who believe that the Pro
Russian Ukrainian rebels are fighting against a corrupt, ultranationalist government are right. The
Ukrainian citizens need to understand, however, that the government of Ukraine is the lesser of
two evils; the rebels have committed many more heinous crimes than the government has. The
rebels are also against policies that can benefit all of Europe and Ukraine. Currently, the Ukrainian
people seek to have a stable nation with a self sufficient government... Show more content on

Unlike the rest of Ukraine, Eastern Ukrainians have received more of a cultural and linguistic
influence from Russia. The Ukrainian people are descended from the nomadic, free Cossacks. The
Cossacks neither loved the tsar not the [Polish] lord and were a people totally separate from the
Russians and Polish (Magosci 19). The roots of Russia and Ukraine reveal that the name Russia is
derived from the word Kievian Rus. The Kievian Rus were Ukrainian people who had established
Kiev, the capital of the ancient Russian state (ExpatRu). The name Russia was eventually adopted
by Peter the Great many years later. The Russian speaking Ukrainians have been influenced a lot by
Russian culture; they have adopted the language due to the constant transfer of power between
Russia (including the USSR) and other countries. Due to the lack of this knowledge, the rebels have
successfully manipulated the minds of the Russian speaking citizens into thinking they are ethnic
Russians. The support the rebels show toward Russia has given them protection; Russia already
seeks to expand its territory, so they completely support anything the rebels do. Historically,
Ukrainians and many western Russians are Ukrainian; the arrogance the rebels have

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bio-Diesel
6.5.2.Bio diesel
Chemically, bio diesel is a methyl ester of C16 C18 saturated and unsaturated fatty acids obtained
through base, acid or enzyme catalyzed transesterification of vegetable oils with methanol. Enzyme
catalyzed transesterification make the whole production process considerably sustainable and
greener. In Europe, biodiesel is made predominantly from rape seed oil. Worldwide so many
plants have been used for the production of biodiesel such as jojoba oil, jatropha oil, karanja oil
etc. Transesterification of vegetable oil produce bio diesel and glycerol. Glycerol can be further
used for other important applications. The biodiesel so obtained can be added to diesel fuels in

Disadvantages
Besides having several advantages plant based renewable raw materials few limitations associated
with their use are given below:
Most of the plant products that can be used as a building block for industries have
conventionally been used as food resources. Plant resources need lots a space for their
development. Biomass is essentially seasonal, which affect their continuous supply as a feedstock.
A broad range of materials that comprise biomass could be damage if new processes need to be
developed for each feedstock. The building blocks extracted from biomass are foreign to traditional
chemical producers and must be demonstrated to function similarly to existing building blocks.
8.Conclusions
Plant based raw materials are already replacing fossil based materials. They have high substitution
potential especially for the products that have direct contact to humans e.g. tenside in detergents,
pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. In addition to that, their cost effectiveness and high concerns for
environmental consequences promote their use in various industries. In the future, plant derived
chemicals are expected to play an increasingly significant role in the commercial development of

Women And The Spartan Women
Throughout ancient human history, men and women held vastly different roles. Women were
often given the duty of bearing and raising children, whereas men were expected to fight, provide
an income, and protect the household. Women were seen as totally inferior to men and described
by Euripedes as a curse to mankind and a plague worse than fire or any viper. However, this
misogynistic view of women and designated role of inferiority was not apparent in every ancient
civilization. The role of the female in ancient Greek history can best be explored and contrasted
between two important civilizations: The Spartans and the Athenians. The Spartan women were
incredibly advanced for their time, and the Athenian women were drastically far behind. Both the
Spartan and Athenian women held roles at home and lived lives far removed from the men of their
societies. However, their lives were much different. While the Spartan women were strong and
educated, the Athenian women held a status almost equal to slavery. The Spartan women were far
more advanced than Athenians in aspects of life including education, athleticism, and
independence. In no other city state did women enjoy the same freedom and status as Spartan
women. As a military driven society, the Spartans realized that regardless of gender all Spartiates
had an obligation to serve the militaristic end of Sparta. With this focus in mind, women were
allowed more freedom, rights, and independence. Spartan women were

The Depictions of Imperialism in Shooting an Elephany by...
Shooting an Elephant is an autobiographically influenced short story written by George Orwell
and published in 1936. It deals with the inner conflict of an imperial police officer in Burma who
feels pressured by the Burmese and forced to kill an outraged elephant in order to prove himself
and his status as an imperial police officer.
The short story can be divided into two parts. In the first two paragraphs the narrator introduces
himself and talks about his life and experience in working as a sub divisional police officer in the
town of Moulmein in Lower Burma. He also talks about his ambiguous attitude towards the
Burmese people who ridicule and mock him because of anti European feelings and towards the
British Empire whose dirty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the last paragraph of the short story he reflects on this incident and talks about discussions
whether it was right of him to shoot the elephant or not.
The story is set in the early 20th century in a town in Lower Burma and the only character
introduced to the reader is the European imperial police officer, whose name is unknown. The main
thesis of the story is not presented at the beginning of the text but rather develops through the
course of the actions. With his opposing attitude towards the British Empire the police officer is in
a conflict with himself right from the beginning of the story which makes him a complex character.
пїјHe works for an Empire which ideals and actions he does not support but he can not identify
with the Burmese people either because, as an European, he is not accepted in their country. Being
mocked by the Burmese and seeing the dirty work of the Empire he feels hatred for both the
oppressed and the oppressor. His realisation about what imperialism really is makes him even more
reluctant towards the British Empire but at the same time he does not see a way out of the situation
and feels pressured by the ideal of imperialism into doing something he does not feel right about.
Orwell based his short story on his own experience as a police officer in Burma and chooses to
use an auto diegetic first person narrator to tell his story. He wants to talk about his own
experiences or his own inner

Holistic Management Part One: British Airways and Further International Expansion of their
Luxury Brand Company Profile and Problem British Airways is one of the airline brands in the
world and the company has been operating (under different names and forms of ownership) since
1919 (British Airways, 2012). In its earliest incarnation, the airline was an international carrier
which began by offering service from London to Paris. Operations changed over the years as the
company was nationalized in 1939 and then re privatized in the 1980 s, but the focus remained
international flights (British Airways, 2012). Due to the fact that the people of Great Britain were
interested in some of the most exotic locations in the world, British Airways has always tried to
deliver routes that can take passengers from Heathrow to any destination in the world. However,
any of these routes are unprofitable, and sense the government was no longer subsidizing the airline
as heavily, new means of finding and maintaining these routes had to be explored. In recent years,
British Airways, and other airlines, have realized that to maximize the number of destinations that
they could service, they had to work together. In some cases this meant merging with other airlines,
but for many airlines it meant that exclusive partnership agreements were reached that would allow
customers to reach a destination flying different airlines, but with a lower cost because of these
types of agreements. British

The Installation of Technology in Sport Stadium Essay
Goal! The fans rise in celebration as the ball crosses the line. Or does it? The ball was just over
the line according to the referee. However, technology says otherwise. Over the years, there have
been many controversial calls in all sports. Human referees have always made mistakes. It has
been debated whether technology should take over refereeing. Some argue that technology will
improve the accuracy of calls in sports, while others claim that it will remove from the human
aspect in sports. Technology should not be used instead of referees in sports, because it is costly to
operate, occupies more time during matches, and takes away from the human element of sports.

Introducing technology to sports would result in frequent stoppages during games, and would take
away from the excitement of the matches.
Although many argue that technology will make decisions in sports more accurate, it is
believed that human error actually makes sports more exciting. Errors made by referees can
create make games more engaging for viewers and fun to watch. Next, technology puts a lot of
pressure on referees to make correct calls. Refereeing is a stressful job by itself, and technology
would put more stress on referees. Fans, because of available technology, will begin to lose
respect for referees if they make mistakes. In addition, sports are a human activity, and should
remain this way. FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke says that, we should trust and keep football
as a human game ( Goal line... ). Also, introduction of technology into sports would miss a huge
opportunity to educate people about the role of uncertainty in science (Pielke). Lastly, use of
technology would increase the risk of hacking and fake video footage (Pielke). In conclusion,
human error is an essential part of sports, and eliminating mistakes by introducing technology
would make sports less exciting and appealing.
Technology should not be used in refereeing in sports, since it is time occupying, requires a lot of
funds to manage, and takes away the element of human error from sports. Referee errors do not

Persuasive Speech On Sea Turtles
Imagine a world of chaos. We see things like that all the time in movies, where zombies roam the
earth and there are just those few main survivors left. The world is in ruins. If ocean life was to
die out, there would be a collapse of civilization as a whole. Just like we see on TV, the world
would become a place where no order exists. This would lead to human extinction. The ocean dies,
we die along with it, and if sea turtles die, so does the ocean. In simple words, one could say that
human life depends on sea turtles. In this speech I will be covering three topics. First, how a sea
turtles diet benefits marine life and humans, second, how sea turtles provide homes and food for
other species, and last, how sea turtles protect beaches from washing away.
Sea turtles have been a big help in maintaining the health of the world s ocean for more than 100
million years. They help by keeping up coral reefs all the way to transporting nutrients to
beaches. Major changes have occurred in oceans everywhere due to the decline of the sea turtle
population. Oceans are unhealthy because of this. It is time for us to protect the sea turtles and
rebuild their population to ensure healthy oceans in the future. According to oceana.org, there
are seven species of sea turtles that roam the world, six of which inhabit U.S. waters, and have
been listed as either endangered, or threatened. Up until now, all six of these species are not at a
healthy level despite protection measures from the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Some
populations even continue to decline. Even at a diminished population, sea turtles play an
important role in ecosystems. They are also extremely important to humans because they keep
oceans healthy, and we use the ocean as a food source. They keep up the health of the ocean in
many different ways, all of which, are very important. Sea turtles are one of the few animals that
eat sea grass. Just like normal lawn grass, sea grass needs to be constantly cut short to help it
grow across the sea floor rather than just getting really long blades. Without constant grazing, sea
grass beds obstruct currents and provide a suitable habitat for the growth of slime molds. Sea grass
beds provide breeding grounds for many

Blue Clue Essay
Blue s Clues specifically set out to fix these problems. Cognitive development was vital, but they
wanted to do it in a way that didn t sacrifice fun or comprehension. First, they addressed the issue
of comprehension. As long as things happened logically, as long as kids could make a connection,
it didn t matter the length of the segments. At the time a dominant theory in developmental theory,
Piaget s work meant that easily distractible children couldn t handle large jumbles of video or
longer segments. Sesame Street supported the first part of this, by showing children couldn t
understand things out of order. But Blue s Clues challenged the second part, and in doing so
changed the idea of the length of child s attention span (Jaffe). This... Show more content on

Examining this show says something about its audience, and the culture their audience was part
of. Obviously, one show s audience can t represent an entire culture. As Blue s Clues was part of
a channel that had to be paid separately for, as opposed to Sesame Street which was on basic
cable, it couldn t reach all audiences. Perhaps it can t speak for those in lower economic classes,
or those who don t support the use of television for their children. But it can say a lot for the
direction the education of children was going. Blue s Clues showed that things were changing.
America was taking the education of their children seriously, looking for new and inventive ways
for them to grow and develop within their own homes. It also showed that television no longer
ended when the show was turned off. While Sesame Street showed that commercial tie ins could
be a success with its massively popular Tickle Me Elmo in 1996 (Jaffe), Blue s Clues recognized
that their positive impact on learning and development wasn t just limited to a thirty minute period.
Examples of that include educational computer games, or clothing with specially designed buttons
to encourage dressing independence ( Me and You ). In the broadest sense, Blue s Clues understood
that a child s development was a dynamic and difficult process. They understood that early
advantages could help

Historical Development Of Policing In America Essay
Describe the historical development of policing in America?
In the early days most police officers were once soldiers. There were also groups of citizens that
would join forces to protect themselves.
Our police system derives from the system our ancestors used in England. From this system we
derive concepts of limited police authority, local control, fragmented justice system that began in
Anglo Saxon England continued until 19th century. In this system, community was divided into
groups of 10 men who were responsible for ensuring that conduct of group was appropriate; if any

Ram s Morality And Morality

World literature
Mr. Neely
Ram s Morality Many people struggle or debate over the topic of morality, and many people are
mistaken as to who really judges what is moral or immoral. The only person who can decide
whether an act is morally right or wrong is God. Within Slumdog Millionaire, there are many
actions and ideas that can be considered morally good or morally bad according to the Christian
views of morality. Ram Muhammad Thomas is debated over when it comes to the topic of
Christian moral views. He shows aspects of both sides in the moral boundary. Within Slumdog
Millionaire Ram shows that he is an immoral person through his thoughts, actions, and motives.
Morality is often referred to as decision making and the difference between right and wrong.
There are many aspects to Christian morality such as the practice of freedom, the understanding
of moral acts, the formation of conscience, and above all realization of sin. Additionally, when
referring to the practice of freedom when it pertains to the topic of morality, it is usually talking
about the responsibility that is gained to be created in the image and likeness of God ( Morality

  • 2. Invitation To Murder Comparing and Contrasting An Invitation to a Murder and The Dying Detective An Invitation to a Murder was written by Josh Pachter and The Dying Detective was scripted by Michael and Mollie Hardwick. There are very distinct differences between the novella and script; however, they have commonalities among them too. An Invitation to a Murder revolves around Eleanor Abbott and twelve other men who stood by the law detectives, investigators, judges, and so on. Meanwhile, The Dying Detective was about Sherlock Holmes framing a man for murder to prove that the man, Culverton Smith was guilty for a punishable act. The audience can compare and contrast to indicate these similarities and differences hidden in the two passages. First... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A locked room mystery is a mystery in which a seemingly impossible crime is committed; for example, a crime occurs in a room that does not allow an entrance or exit for the criminal. In this case, it had seemed preposterous to how Mrs. Abbott was going to kill Mr. Abbott and blame the twelve men. Branigan and Coszyck kept Mrs. Abbott in place, but by the time it was eleven o clock, Mr. Abbott had died without Mrs. Abbott even laying a single finger on him! Another difference was the poison used in the stories. In The Dying Detective , the poison was a plant which killed Victor Savage, Smith s cousin. Smith attempted to use the same plant on Holmes in order to murder him. Holmes had feigned his death at that time to fool Smith, so his trickery had worked. Watson was hiding behind the bedhead, so he was able to confirm everything Smith s nefarious acts. Whereas Mr. Abbott s medication was actually the poison used to kill Mrs. Abbott. The twelve men decided and came to a verdict for Mrs. Abbott to take the pills that would be venomous to her body and heart. Although both stories have situational irony in them, how the irony was utilized differs. The situational irony in An Invitation to a Murder is how Mrs. Abbott planned to blame the twelve men for her husband s murder, yet she was killed. Eleanor Abbott was confident she would be free, instead she had her life taken away ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Personal Narrative On Jenny At age 10, I would hide notes in her yard, I would stick deep within the bushes or far within the trees. I had bought fake blood at Benny s Halloween Store and would run the bright liquid prop across the trees sometimes on the notes. Every note lead to another clue. Every clue lead to her discovering something. At one point the final note lead to a barbie doused in blood. I wasn t always that mean though. Sometimes she would find things such as money or candy. Solving mysteries was her favorite hobby. She was excellent at it. She was addicted to the suspense brought by it. Although, the older we got, the less in touch we were. I was mowing my lawn when I saw a girl running. She was in beat up clothing without any shoes on her feet. She was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The front of the house was a military green color which was very unusual. The garage happened to be the same color and the porch was very small in size with two concrete stairs leading up to the front door. • 4. Twain And Regionalism Writing in the late 19th century, both Mark Twain and Ambrose Bierce were part of the Realism literary period, which lasted from 1865 to 1900. Their writings, especially those of Twain, helped to chart the course of American literature. Despite being in the Realism period, their stories are also part of other eras. Writingmainly toward the beginning of the era and coming from a small Midwest village, Twain was greatly influenced by Regionalism. Bierce, on the other hand, drew much of his ideas from the period that followed Realism: Naturalism. While Mark Twainand Ambrose Bierce both primarily wrote Realism, Twain s writings have a bent for Regionalism, while Bierce s short stories lean towards Naturalism. Samuel Clemens, better known as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bierce, however, has a Naturalist inclination. According to him, humans live in a vast and completely indifferent universe which we cannot fully grasp or perceive (Williams). This very concept is the essence of Naturalism, which features many of the varying details that are common in Bierce s writings. One such detail is a use of grotesque but matter of fact details, which is prevalent in Chickamauga, which includes a man that has a face that lacked a lower jaw from the upper teeth to the throat was a great red gap fringed with hanging shreds of flesh and splinters of bone (Bierce, Ambrose. Chickamauga ), as well as the dead body of a woman the white face turned upward, the hands thrown out and clutched full of grass, the clothing deranged, the long dark hair in tangles and full of clotted blood (Bierce, Ambrose. Chickamauga ). Bierce also depicts war, fear, and death as unstoppable forces that make worms meat be [t]he finished product of which we are the raw material (Bierce, Ambrose. The Devil s Dictionary). This idea of the presence of great omnipotent powers that are beyond the understanding of humans is one unique to Naturalism, and proves that he was strongly influenced by the Naturalism ... Biography Of Eleanor Darnall Carroll home was Darnall s Chance, a plantation of 27,000 acres which his mother, Eleanor Darnall Carroll, had inherited from her grandfather.[2] His younger brother John was the first Roman Catholic bishop in the United States (as Archbishop of Baltimore, 1790) and founder of Georgetown University; his cousin Charles Carroll of Carrollton signed the Declaration of Independence. Carroll was sent abroad for his education. Between 1742 and 1748 he and John studied under the Jesuits at the College of St. Omer in France, established for the education of English Catholics. Then, after a tour of Europe, he sailed home and soon married Eleanor Carroll, apparently a first cousin of another cousin, Charles Carroll of Carrollton.[3] In the 1770s, Carroll gradually ... • 6. Bmc Recovery Abstract The purpose of this experiment was to test the correlation of heart recovery rates post exercise in both athletes and non athletes and determine which group had the faster recovery rate. This was accomplished by selecting six non athletes and six athletes to run one lap around the Fresno Pacific track for two days. Each participant s resting heartrate was taken before running the lap and instantly after running the lap as well. Upon completion of the lap their heart ratewas measured in thirty second intervals and it was noted how long it took to get back down to each initial resting heart rate again. Due to the athletes training it was hypothesized that they would have the faster recovery rate because they d be more conditioned... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The subjects were given a survey on their health as to avoid injured or asthmatic variables. Also they were all required to be in the healthy BMI range and the athletes were from one sport and the non athletes had a strict definition of exercise as less than twice a week. However, a few errors could have slipped through. For example when recording the participants heart rate. The pulse was sometimes hard to locate requiring more time to look for it after their lap run and perhaps lose data in the process. Another possible error that could have occurred was taking the recovery times. The majority of the participant trials were done by one project partner making it difficult to monitor the thirty second intervals while measuring and recording the heart rates as well. In future studies these errors may be avoided by requiring all the researchers be present for the experiment in order to secure more definitive results. Another issue that occurred was the participants failing to show up, more so in the athlete group, which left a hole in hour experimental data because we were unable to reach the intended six athlete total due to this issue. Future researchers should attempt to have all the athlete and non athlete participants together at one time for each day. This would avoid having to come back day by day and remember who did one day and who s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Nursing Career Nurses entering this specialty must highlight not only their clinical skills, but also their critical thinking, advocacy and analytical abilities. Communities are dynamic, and nurses must adapt to and be able to provide patients with whatever care is needed. (Meadows, 2009). The PHN uses clinical knowledge along with an ecological viewpoint. A public healthnurse can practice in clinics, healthdepartments, faith based organizations, mobile vans, homes, correctional facilities, occupations, community centers and hospitals. There is no setting that a public health nurse cannot practice to deliver a community focused intervention. Delivering a successful intervention can be challenging but with learning competencies and skills, the PHN can achieve results. At all times the focus must be on the health needs of an entire population including imbalances and the unique needs of sub populations. A PHN must be analytical by defining a problem and use data to determine an effective solution. A PHN must be able to communicate effectively, and understand how the media delivers information. Of great importance is the role of cultural competency in public health nursing. Cultural competency is the ability to effectively consider the worldviews, healthcare practices and preferences of people from diverse, racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. The PHN must put an emphasis on prevention and focuses attention to multiple determinates of health. The skill of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Why I Want To Become A Nail Technician Growing up in a single parent household can be tough in terms of pleasing your parent. You re not able to go and get a second opinion from another parent when making decisions. If he/she doesn t agree with your decision it leaves a bad taste in your mouth because you don t want to disappoint him/her. My mother probably expected me to graduate college with my associate s degree and land a job at IBM. Introducing the idea of me becoming a nail technician to her was nerve wrecking. I expected rejection followed by a lecture about what would be a better career path for me. Surprisingly after explaining to her why I chose the beauty industry, my long term goals, and how nail carewill pay a role in my future career she was just as excited as I... Since I followed her on Instagram and snapchat I ve been inspired and it motivated me to start my own career. It s amazing how much expression can be put into a full set of nails. Nails have become a part of a female s wardrobe. Everywhere I go someone compliments my nails and my nail selfies always receive a lot of likes. I m on social media every day and I keep up with the latest trends. It s only right that I join the beauty industry. Not only am I surrounded by beauticians but a few of them are successful salon owners. I too hope to own a nail studio. I didn t just choose to be a part of this industry but I set goals for myself once I receive my license. Before I become a salon owner I have to prepare myself for the responsibility that comes with it. One of my friends offered me a position at her salon after I obtain my certificate. This is the perfect opportunity because I ll be able to see firsthand the responsibilities of being an owner, and I will still get the experience of paying booth rent. I notice that the nail salons in my area rarely do promotions. At my friend s salon not only do the beauticians have promotions, but they offer packages for the clients. We talked about adding manicures to the packages which could build my clientele. I d be able to attract girls in high school with occasional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Saul Alinsky Jane Addams Brief Paper #1 Harvey Burchett Northeastern State University SOWK 4733 Practice III Dr. Satara Armstrong, MSW February 8, 2012 Brief Paper #1 Both Jane Addams and Saul Alinsky, worked to enact social change within the poor neighborhoods of Chicago. Both would also go on to inspire many other social changes due to their methodologies and accomplishments. However, Addams and Alinsky s approaches to bring about social change are often described as being polar opposites. One could argue though, that despite these superficial differences, Addams and Alinsky shared a commonality that is not often talked about. Jane Addams started the Hull House. She brought services to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This falls back to Alinsky s do anything to win mentality and win he did. The BYNC housed the infant station and the Chicago Settlement never regained its footing within the community. Alinsky had again proved the effectiveness of his methods (Hamington, 2010). Addams and Alinsky appear to have very different organizing philosophies. Alinsky himself often commented how his methods were so different than those of the settlement houses. These comments however, should have been more directed at what the settlement houses had become and not at the originating principles of Jane Addams Hull House. Jane Addams herself would likely disapprove of the direction that the settlement houses had moved towards. Addams and Alinsky both recognized the importance of listening and learning the needs of the community in order to gain perspective. Addams recognized that when existing social institutions do not provide a reasonable means for citizen participation, those citizens will organize to resist... Similarly, Alinsky viewed his organizations as fully democratic [stating]: This kind of organization can be built only if people are working together for real, attainable objectives (Hamington, 2010). The connections between the philosophies of Addams and Alinsky are inextricably linked. The resonance between the social philosophies of Addams and Alinsky is not surprising if the Chicago School connection is taken into account. Addams and Hull House helped ... • 10. Repercussions In Education The United States is no longer the leader in education standards and in fact is no longer even making the top ten when it comes to reading, math, and science literacy rankings among the world for education (Learning Curve, 8). The repercussions are that college graduates are not as competitive globally as they once were and obtaining desired careers are more competitive than ever, having an ultimate result of slowing down the economy. Due to these conditions, education reform needs to be dealt with immediately as it will take years of implementation before any positive results are actually achieved. Despite the introduction of common core, and no child left behind, the schoolsystem is still failing students who are unqualified to even enter... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Parents that have spoken out risk upsetting a teacher that will be looking after their child for the rest of the year, many teachers express the opinion that parents are not qualified to help their children as they have not had pedagogy training. Parents need to be allowed to voice opinions and concerns when it comes to their children s well being without fear of repercussions. There are numerous ways that parents should become involved in education reform. In New York City, parents withheld their children from participating in standardized testing; proclaiming that too much time was spent on training for the tests and not enough time and faith was given to the teachers to teach according to their best judgement and training. Instead of waiting on politicians to lead the change in education reform parents need to start change themselves on a local level by participating heavily in the schools that their children attend. Getting to know the teachers and administration allows parents to have a voice about concerns and problems that they witness firsthand as well as being active voters for members of the school board. Those that complain that the nation is no longer a competitive learning source should in turn become actively involved in education ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Cold War Readings Devil s Advocate Cold War Readings Devil s Advocate Response For my response, I have chosen to focus in on some of the statements provided by the Nussbaum reading as well as JFK s City Upon a Hill speech. As the group s Devil s Advocate, I will strive to make logical and realistic counterpoints to some of the information from the readings that I found either unseemly, disingenuous, or unrealistic as it relates to our modern world. The Nussbaum (it literally means Nut Tree in German) reading focused primarily on the idea that higher education should emphasize the ethical role and moral obligations of a global citizen, one that travels among other cultures and recognizes, or even adapts to, the cultural tenets of the so called other. Two points of focus... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kennedy recanted to his audience during his famous City Upon a Hill speech the message that Pericles gave to the Athenian people: We do not imitate for we are a model to others. In a similar fashion to the Nussbaum article, Kennedy addressed the distinctions between a local identity and a national identity, especially in relation to the obligations that one must hold to one or the other. In his case, Kennedy was making the appeal that despite his rise to power on a national level as President of the United States, he would still maintain his traditional views fostered by his Massachussetts upbringing. It was here my grandparents were born, he said, it is here I hope my grandchildren will be born. Therefore, even though Kennedy is recognizing his moral obligation to the country on a national level as its President, he is maintaining discourse with his local identity. An objection that I took with this message was that even though I found myself agreeing with a fair portion of its content, I m not entirely bought on the idea that one should necessarily feel bound by obligation to their nation, especially when one can t help the circumstances of their birth. What if my nation is inherently flawed, or even lawfully evil like Nazi Germany am I still bound by obligation to my nation? Because I happen to live here, am I robbed of my own agency to choose whether or not I support my government? Secondly, Kennedy addresses his audience with Pericles famous statement to the people of Athens, that We do not imitate. Ignoring the inherent flaws of American exceptionalism, I think it is a fundamental injustice to declare that one must only submit to original ideas of governance, rather than looking outward to other models for inspiration. Our founding fathers used primarily recycled ideas from the Enlightenment in order to craft the documents that would create America as we know it today, and so I do not think ... • 13. Sidney Bechet s Major Accomplishments Sidney Bechet was one of many fantastic up and coming jazz musicians in the Roaring Twenties. He started on the clarinet, but eventually became one of the first performers to adopt the soprano saxophone as a main instrument, as well as one of the first to improvise with the swing style of jazz. In addition, he was one of the first artists to record using a multitrack which was a way of recording where you would play back the track from one instrument while you recorded with another instrument and continued this process until you had all of the instruments you wanted. These strides helped Bechet stand out from other musicians as he progressed through his career. Bechet grew up in a musical household and toured with popular bands from a young age. Duke Ellington, a fellow jazz musician, once described Bechet as The very epitome of jazz, everything he played in his entire life was completely original. I honestly think he was the most unique man ever to be in this music. Throughout his career he played in the Marion Cook s Syncopated Orchestra, Louis Mitchell s Jazz King, Duke Ellington s Washingtonians, and the Noble Sissle Orchestra. Defend whether or not this made each artist s work any less original. It does not make their art any less original. Originality is about creativity and innovation. While their work was similar, it was the only of it s kind at the time. They pioneered the path of cubism side by side. I would not consider this to be unoriginal, but a tandem effort to make their own art. Surely, they challenged one another which pushed their art to new heights. I don t think cubism would be what it is today without both artists, as they were at the forefront of creating new art during that period. 2. On the other hand, Feudalism, which stands for the power of the land was taking over. All these incidents and more inspired the poets and writers to create literature that expressed what was happening in the Middle Ages. One of these productions was the Song of Roland it is one of the oldest epic poems that was written in France. Cultural Relativism Is Important For Many Reasons Cultural Relativism is defined as, The principle that an individual s beliefs and activities should be understood by others in terms of that individual s own culture . Wilson talked about this term extensively in his class and he noticed a common trend within his classroom. The trend was that his students warned him, Not to be judgmental or to impose your values on other people. (Soccio 2007). This is a common trend found with a lot of people in my opinion. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When these two cultures were told any other way of disposing of their dead, they were completely shocked and almost disgusted (Rachels 2015). This helps support the fact that different cultures have different practices and therefore different moral codes. Furthermore, if different cultures have different moral codes and practices that are based on their own personal culture, another culture should not be able to judge them, simply because they are unique to that culture. Tolerance is another good quality that comes with cultural relativism. Tolerance helps us have a sort of explanation on why other cultures act the way they do. It gives the reason of an action or act being based on one s culture rather than because of the type of individual that they are. Take a cultural group such as the Eskimos. The Eskimos believe in and practice infanticide throughout their villages (Rachels 2015). This practice is considered highly wrong in American cultures, but is considered morally acceptable in cultures like the Eskimo (Rachels 2015). What a lot of people forget to take into account is the reason the Eskimos perform infanticide. It is not because they are cruel people, no, it is because they are thinking about the possible future life of the child and the future life of their village. A Summary On Parkinson s Disease Introduction In 1817, James Parkinson first described a disease, later to be known as Parkinson s Disease (PD) as a; neurodegenerative disorder affecting the physical, psychological, social, and functional status of individuals (Parkinson Society Canada Staff, 1965). In the time since the disease was first described, the frequency of individuals affected with the disease has increased, with no single cause yet to be identified as the culprit for the onset of the disease. According to the Parkinson s society Society of Canada, approximately one hundred thousand Canadians live with this debilitating disease (Parkinson Society Canada Staff, 1965). Not only has no successful cure for Parkinson s been developed, there has yet to be any diagnostic tools developed that prove any suredefinite diagnosis (Parkinson Society Canada Staff, 1965). To this point, Parkinson s is a disease that continues to impact a higher percentage of the population each year, with no true hope being given to those that struggle with the impairment. The purpose of this paper is to provide a summary of our knowledge on PD to date, describing the physiology behind the deficits that PD is responsible for, the known causes and risk factors, the signs and symptoms, and finally any known treatments that help to reduce the impairments of PD. Physiology The origin of the impairments of PD disease start in the basal ganglia, the basal ganglia in laymen terms would be defined as the basic cluster of nuclei, located ... Bosnia Herzegovina went from a prime example of cultural unity to the exact opposite due to the dissolution of Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia was created at the end of World War I, when Bosnian, Croat, and Slovenian territories joined that of the Serbian Empire. Yugoslavia was split up during World War II, but was once again unified at the end by Josip Broz Tito. Due to cultural differences, remembrance of WWII events, and the death of Josip Broz Tito, Yugoslavia, once again, broke up in the early 1990s. My parents were born and raised in different parts of Yugoslavia, but with the break up of Yugoslavia, and wars that followed between Bosnia and Serbia, my parents had to escape to Germany (where my brother and I would soon be born). Growing up I always heard about how great it was to live in a Yugoslavia that was ruled by Josip Broz Tito, it was a place where people got along with one another. However, that would soon change. In an essay written by Alan Fraser, he describes the conditions of Yugoslavia during the time of unity. In his opening sentence he says the first thing I noticed about Yugoslavia was the ease and honesty, the trust people had for each other, treating one another like family. The quote speaks volumes, especially coming from a foreigner to the region. Yugoslavia was truly a place where everyone got along with one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. My First Encounter With Pulleys Let s talk about pulleys today! I have some pulleys here. Will anyone assemble them? My high school physics teacher looked around our classroom. I raised my hand, walked to the front of the classroom and took up a pulley. Bending down, I concentrated hard on the system in front of me. This scene brought me back to my first encounter with pulleys in the science center years ago. A voice echoed in my mind loudly and clearly: Don t be obsessed and carry on! The story of that day started to unfold before my eyes. As I walked into the City Science Center, I found the very place which had appeared in my dream hundreds of times: a large interactive science area. As I had always expected, the science center included not only topics I was curious about, but also topics of which I had never heard. For a seven year old, there was a lot to explore and I remember myself wishing I could try them all at once. So after saying Cheese! perfunctorily in front of my mom s camera, I ran into the nearest exhibition without any hesitation. Tired of controlling the flow of the waterfall model with my voice, I noticed some other kids pushing around small carts. They were building houses! I immediately joined the group. To build a balcony for the house, I had to elevate building materials to the second floor. According to the instruction of the project, I was supposed to achieve the task with the help of pulleys. Another musician that went on influence future generations and considered one of the greatest guitar players in the world is Eddie Van Halen. David Lee came on board and thought the brother s last name sounded cool, and the rock group Van Halenwas born. On one particular show, Gene Simmons from Kiss caught Van Halen at the local gig. He offered to help them out. Gene Simmons flew Van Halen to New York to tape a demo and introduced them to the Kiss production management. They had no interest in Van Halen citing that there was no commercial value to Van Halen, so the band went back to their local gigs in California. During a show in Hollywood, Warner Brothers records representative Ted Templeman saw their act and signed them less than a week later for a record deal with the Warner brother s label. They headed out on the road immediately and caught up with Warner Brothers headliners to open their shows. Van Halen was then off to England to open for another band that Eddie idolized, Black Sabbath. Ozzie was so impressed with the band that he admitted that Van Halen was outplaying Sabbath. Beowulf And Grendel Comparison Beowulf, known as the oldest poem in the written English language, written with no known author, tells a fascinating story involving an epic hero of his time and a not so understood monster. The hero s name is Beowulf, purposefully being the same title as the poem itself, he sets out on a journey from his home to the Danes from a terrible creature that s harming innocent people. As any hero would. Beowulfwants to prove to himself and the people that he is, in fact, the strongest man on earth. Although Beowulf is a fine piece of writing on its own, it fails to tell all of the story, just like any other one sided story does. But, thanks to the novel, Grendel, written by John Gardner, we get to peek inside the villain s life for a change, which ultimately very well may change the reader s view of the story completely. These two versions of the same story are told from two different perspectives, Grendel s (the monster) and Beowulf s (the epic hero), the story told in Beowulf s favor insinuates that Grendel is a terrible monster with no soul, whose whole life is dedicated to killing anything and everything in his sight. However, in Grendel, we see a completely different side of Grendel that isn t over shadowed by the hatred that the people have on Grendel. • 45. Women And The Spartan Women Throughout ancient human history, men and women held vastly different roles. Women were often given the duty of bearing and raising children, whereas men were expected to fight, provide an income, and protect the household. Women were seen as totally inferior to men and described by Euripedes as a curse to mankind and a plague worse than fire or any viper. However, this misogynistic view of women and designated role of inferiority was not apparent in every ancient civilization. The role of the female in ancient Greek history can best be explored and contrasted between two important civilizations: The Spartans and the Athenians. The Spartan women were incredibly advanced for their time, and the Athenian women were drastically far behind. Both the Spartan and Athenian women held roles at home and lived lives far removed from the men of their societies. However, their lives were much different. While the Spartan women were strong and educated, the Athenian women held a status almost equal to slavery. The Spartan women were far more advanced than Athenians in aspects of life including education, athleticism, and independence. In no other city state did women enjoy the same freedom and status as Spartan women. As a military driven society, the Spartans realized that regardless of gender all Spartiates had an obligation to serve the militaristic end of Sparta. The story is set in the early 20th century in a town in Lower Burma and the only character introduced to the reader is the European imperial police officer, whose name is unknown. The main thesis of the story is not presented at the beginning of the text but rather develops through the course of the actions. With his opposing attitude towards the British Empire the police officer is in a conflict with himself right from the beginning of the story which makes him a complex character. пїјHe works for an Empire which ideals and actions he does not support but he can not identify with the Burmese people either because, as an European, he is not accepted in their country. His realisation about what imperialism really is makes him even more reluctant towards the British Empire but at the same time he does not see a way out of the situation and feels pressured by the ideal of imperialism into doing something he does not feel right about. Holistic Management Part One: British Airways and Further International Expansion of their Luxury Brand Company Profile and Problem British Airways is one of the airline brands in the world and the company has been operating (under different names and forms of ownership) since 1919 (British Airways, 2012). In its earliest incarnation, the airline was an international carrier which began by offering service from London to Paris. Operations changed over the years as the company was nationalized in 1939 and then re privatized in the 1980 s, but the focus remained international flights (British Airways, 2012). Due to the fact that the people of Great Britain were interested in some of the most exotic locations in the world, British Airways has always tried to deliver routes that can take passengers from Heathrow to any destination in the world. However, any of these routes are unprofitable, and sense the government was no longer subsidizing the airline as heavily, new means of finding and maintaining these routes had to be explored. In recent years, British Airways, and other airlines, have realized that to maximize the number of destinations that they could service, they had to work together. • 50. Persuasive Speech On Sea Turtles Imagine a world of chaos. We see things like that all the time in movies, where zombies roam the earth and there are just those few main survivors left. The world is in ruins. If ocean life was to die out, there would be a collapse of civilization as a whole. Just like we see on TV, the world would become a place where no order exists. This would lead to human extinction. The ocean dies, we die along with it, and if sea turtles die, so does the ocean. In simple words, one could say that human life depends on sea turtles. In this speech I will be covering three topics. First, how a sea turtles diet benefits marine life and humans, second, how sea turtles provide homes and food for other species, and last, how sea turtles protect beaches from washing away. Sea turtles have been a big help in maintaining the health of the world s ocean for more than 100 million years. They help by keeping up coral reefs all the way to transporting nutrients to beaches. Major changes have occurred in oceans everywhere due to the decline of the sea turtle population. Oceans are unhealthy because of this. It is time for us to protect the sea turtles and rebuild their population to ensure healthy oceans in the future. According to oceana.org, there are seven species of sea turtles that roam the world, six of which inhabit U.S. waters, and have been listed as either endangered, or threatened. Up until now, all six of these species are not at a healthy level despite protection measures from the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Some populations even continue to decline. Even at a diminished population, sea turtles play an important role in ecosystems. They are also extremely important to humans because they keep oceans healthy, and we use the ocean as a food source. They keep up the health of the ocean in many different ways, all of which, are very important. Sea turtles are one of the few animals that eat sea grass. Just like normal lawn grass, sea grass needs to be constantly cut short to help it grow across the sea floor rather than just getting really long blades. Without constant grazing, sea grass beds obstruct currents and provide a suitable habitat for the growth of slime molds. Sea grass beds provide breeding grounds for many ...
