Curtis Pride Research Paper
Curtis Pride was born on December 17, 1968 in Washington, D.C. He is currently 48 years old. He is
the son of John and Sally Pride. Curtis Pride is married to Lisa Pride and has two beautiful children
Noelle and Colten Pride. Curtis was diagnosed at the age of just nine months as being born deaf. His
mother had contracted rubella during pregnancy. Rubella is a contagious viral disease, with symptoms
similar to mild measles. It can most likely cause fetal malformation if contracted in early pregnancy.
At age two, his parents had moved to Silver Spring, Maryland and enrolled Curtis in the Montgomery
County Public School System s Auditory Service infant program. After the infant program he went to

major leagues which was fine with him. All together Curtis had played thirteen solid seasons, reaching
his most successful point with the Detroit Tigers in 1996. He had three hundred and one plate
appearance, hit with a .300 batting percentage with also a .513 slugging percentage. Curtis had ended

Types And Types Of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Introduction Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), also known as non insulin dependent DM, is a chronic
metabolic disorder characterized by certain symptoms such as hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and
relative insulin deficiency [1]. Genetic, environmental and behavioural risk factors are considered
responsible for the predisposition of T2DM [2]. With the progression of this disease, the patient
eventually develops various short and long term complications. Thus, the patient has to undergo
multiple therapies, which reduces the quality of life as well as the life expectancy [3]. The
demographic data suggests that more than 400 million of population, across the globe are currently
suffering from this disease. In 2012, the death toll is upto 1.5 million due to T2DM and 2.2 million
people died due to high blood glucose level [4]. The major problem with this disease is that it cannot
be completely cured, but the symptoms and complications can be controlled with diet, exercise,
medicines and health monitoring. This subsequently lands the patient on lifetime medication that
involves a huge cost. In 2012, the American Diabetes Association released a letter suggesting an
annual expenditure of $245 billion for diabetes, which includes a direct medical cost of $176 billion
and $69 billion in reduced productivity [5]. In order to avoid and delay the short and long term
complications, the patients are prescribed with multiple treatment modalities such as oral
hypoglycemic drugs and

Geography Of New York
New York
From the Statue of Liberty to the smooth, beautiful song of the Niagara Falls and to the busy streets of
Chinatown, soaring to the height of the empire state building, New york has it all. New York is the
state of the action, the calm, and the great. Starting when the Native Americans lived in a longhouse to
when Henry Hudson discovered Hudson River to the battle of Saratoga, and when all the immigrants
started coming to New York, New York has been through victory events good and bad. Like when
NYC invented the first teddy bear, by being inspired by the fact that Theodore Roosevelt refused to

The Key Concepts Of Quality Improvement
The key concepts of quality improvement are the new designing system and process changes that lead
to improve operation and sustainable quality of organization culture. When new design and procedure
are introduced, the change management priority is to transit employees to new state. To developing
culture of quality, the quality management plan is the key feature of change management that needs to
inform structure as a specific wide rang of leaderships in organization to support transformation
change and achieve quality outcome. At this point, Dawsonera (2005) leaderships must have clear
vision at the new state of change, a highly visible and the desired of committed a senior manager to
transition the key change process such as aim, objective, training, communication, planning to make
employees awareness.
In 1938 to 1970s, Xerox was the strong company about printer, however, in 1980s the printer business
had new competitors, from both the US and Japan. The Xerox s analysts found management failed in
company strategic direction that lead to high cost operation and low quality in comparison with
competitors. As Dragolea and Cotirles (2009) suggested there are three main factors that needs to
implement. There are supplier management system, inventory management and manufacturing
system. In order to change their new design, regards to Xerox leaders use technics and tools of six
sigma, benchmarking and market trend to help company make decision.

Research Paper On Leonardo Dicaprios
As a summer babysitter who doesn t like children, and someone who can t stand Taylor Swift, Alexis
Stanley is anything but average. She s zany, but compassionate, and has a lot to talk about. From her
fear of swimming, to her crazy dreams about Leonardo Dicaprio, and her dream vacation in Paris. My
interview with Alexis reveals all sorts of information. her family isn t calm either, being the oldest of 3
siblings, it s always loud in her house. Her two brothers constantly argue and rant about everything.
When there isn t a sibling war, they stay separated throughout the day.
Everyone faces a challenge in life, like a roadblock. For Alexis, it s swimming. It doesn t matter
whether she s in swimming class, the ocean, or even the intercoastal: Alexis is not a fan of large and
deep bodies of water. She might freak out, and there s more. There s no evidence, but Alexis stays
behind the 4 feet line because she can t swim that well. Even though she has swim class for her first
quarter of freshmen year, there s no getting past a fear this big. Luckily for her, she can put up with it
for the grade. It s not a phobia, but don t try and shove Alexis into the deep end.

Government In The Film V For Vendetta
In the film V for Vendetta directed by James McTeigue it is evident that People shouldn t be afraid of
their government. Governments should be afraid of their people. This is seen through several
characters in the film. In the first place, the government is made up of people, most of them elected by
the citizens of the country. As an illustration, midway through V for Vendetta, the character V
surmises that Sutler s career began as a deeply religious man and a member of the conservative party.
He s completely single minded and has no regard for political process. The more power he obtains the
more obvious his zealotry, and the more aggressive his supporters become. This shows as the number
of his supporter increased and became more aggressive,

Pecola Race
Through the dynamic characters and character experiences that occur within the book, Toni Morrison
is able to illustrate a racist America where society reinforces the idea that the white race is superior.
Colored characters are taught by society that their own race is subordinate and that they are not worthy
of the same amount of respect as their superiors. These characters continue to teach this idea within
their race and create an ideology that even within the same race appearance decides whether or not a
person is worthy. This instills the idea of self hatred and the longing to be a blue eyed middle class
person. Characters associate the white and blue eyes with that of economic stability and self worth.
Within the story racism between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her self worth is defined by the color of her eyes and the color of her skin, this delusion is a product
of the effect that this idea has had on Pecola s life. There is a constant pattern in the book where
characters admire others as though they were hoping to one day attain their characteristics. Characters
in the story develop an unrealistic and unhealthy admiration for white personas that further make them
believe that they are worth less. For example, Pecola and her friend Frieda are mesmerized and almost
hypnotized by Shirley Temples perceived beauty (put page number here). Similarly to Pecola, Mrs.
Breedlove, consumes her days in an unrealistic world where she admires actresses and prefers to stay

The United States And The Middle East
Following World War II, the major international powers in the Middle East began to lose influence
over the area. In 1946, France and Great Britain were forced to withdrawal from their colonized states
by the United Nation Security Council when a delegation of the Middle Eastern countries called for
the removal the colonial mandates on Middle East, specifically in Palestine (Department of Public
Information). While Britain and France did not completely abandon their influence over the area, the
removal of their direct influence over the Middle East left an opening for the two new superpowers,
the United States and the Soviet Union, to enter the scene. The two world powers were in stark
competition after World War II in an attempt to spread their political ideology. The Middle East
became a new battleground for the Cold War after the removal of France and Great Britain. The two
countries were drawn to the Middle East because of both their rivalry and their own specific interests,
but their actions had major regional repercussions on the area and the relations between countries. The
expression of the rivalry between the two countries came in three forms: direct engagement, alliances,
and military aid.
While the rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union was the driving force behind the two
powers interests in the Middle East, both had their own specific agendas, which need to be realized
before focusing in on the rivalry itself. The Soviet Union had major

Travis Kalanick Leadership
Question 1
In my opinion I believe that leaders such as Travis Kalanick are successful because they have a
comprehensive understanding of what it is to be a leader. The thing that distinguish good leaders from
great ones are the things that great leaders do differently. I think that with thorough understanding and
skills of leadership they are able to do things in a different way compared to their competitors and
attain positive outcomes. Travis Kalanick trusts that answers can be found to every unwelcomed
situation. One just needs to have inventive ways in solving the problem (Uber Travis Kalanick Bio,

where problems lie and find the appropriate change principle to apply in order to affect the culture.

To Her Father With None
The poem To her father with some verses by Anne Bradstreet details a women s attempt to show
praise for her father while being unable repay him all that he has done for her. The first thing that
initially hits the reader is the tone of the poem. The first few lines paint an overall sad atmosphere that
continually engulfs the reader as the poem continues. The conclusion fo the poem leaves the reader in
a depressed state knowing that no matter what the women in the poem does, she can never repay what
her father has done for her. Add this with the fact the narrator mentions she plans to continue this
repayment until the day she dies. These ideas offer a similar take on Puritan culture. Puritan families
typically had the men spend enormous amounts

Acute Failure And Chronic Failure
CHF occurs when the heart is no longer able to adequately pump blood causing a decrease in nutrients
and oxygen to the body. The term CHF has widely been replaced by the terms acute failure and
chronic failure because not all types of heart failure are accompanied by pulmonary congestion.
However, in this pt s case, she suffered from severe edema and fluid build up in the lungs due to the
failure. CHF is generally precipitated by other cardiac related conditions including, HTN, CAD, and
past MIs, all of which are present in this pt s history (Lewis, Heitkemper, Dirksen, Bucher, Camera,

This transfer of ions is what generates the electrical impulse of the heart and causes the heart to act as
a single unit instead of individual cells (Marieb Hoehn, 2013). Cardiac conduction occurs because
there are gap junctions for ions to pass through and because of the heart s intrinsic conduction system,
which is composed of non contractile cardiac cells that are specifically designed to start and distribute
electric impulses through the cardiac cells so that depolarization and contractions are orderly and
sequential. The contractile cells sustain stable membrane resting potential when they are unstimulated,
however, the resting potential of the autorhythmic cells, that create the intrinsic conduction system, is
unstable and is constantly depolarizing, which is called pacemaker potentials and initiate the action
potential that causes the heart to contract (Marieb Hoehn, 2013). The pace maker potential occurs
because of the ion channels which causes hyperpolarization at the end of the action potentials. This
hyperpolarization causes the K+ channels to close while simultaneously opening the Na+ channels,
which allows an imbalance of K+ and Na+ to occur making the cardiac cells to become more positive.
When the pacemaker potential is reached at around

The Stanford Prison Experiment And Philip G Zimbardo
In chapter two, we study the research methods of different psychological experiments and studies.
This includes the ethical obligations of researchers toward the participants in their research, which are
enforced by institutional review boards at American research colleges and universities. In these
studies, researchers are required to provide the following: (a) informed consent of the purpose of the
research, its expected duration, and any potential risks, discomfort, or adverse associated with it ; (b)
protection for harm and discomfort; (c) knowledge of deception in a study and debriefing once the
study has concluded. These obligations are required to protect research participants. However, these
are not always followed in research. In the 2015 movie, The Stanford Prison Experiment , audiences
are shown a reenactment of the notorious true story. In August of 1971, psychologist, Philip G.

from the experiment for traumatic experiences by day four. As the experiment continued, the guards
only became more tyrannical while the prisoners become more unhinged. This forced Dr. Zimbardo to

A Study On Smoke Management System
1 LITERATURE REVIEW 1.1 Introduction Buildings with atrium are big challenge for smoke
ventilation system, because if fire is initiated in atrium by any different causes at any level of atrium
where there is amount of fuel to maintain steady heat release rate, there is probability that the fire will
be maintained. Study fire development, smoke layer, temperature distribution and carbon monoxide
concentration is complicated and unstable. Therefore, computational fluid dynamics is useful tool to
analyze smoke management system. FDS (Fire Dynamic Simulator) is frequently used tool in such
type of studies.[1,2]. This chapter presents an overview on the previous work in the field of smoke
management system in atrium. First, study the effect of atrium height and location of exhaust fans on
the smoke movement in atrium buildings Many research centers conduct studies on smoke
management system. The Canadian Foundation for Innovation, (CFI) has approved a proposal by
Carleton University for the development of a unique $10 million, full scale fire research facility. CFI s
contribution to this project is $4.0 million. Other contributing partners include the National Research

Hans Zimmer Hans Zimmer was born in Frankfurt, Germany in September 12, 1957. As a child, he

Wow, if I just carry on writing nice music like this, I can have this moment again.... That s why I did
the exact opposite, scoring for truly offensive projects like The Fan. Just to shake myself out of the
desire for that Oscar experience. When he created the score for A Crimson Tide, he used a large choir

action and suspense. Despite his choice to take the path less glittered, he still received recognition for

its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award before Zimmer was 40 years old, which is a great
achievement on his part. And in 1998 he received yet another Academy Award nomination on the

Adsorption Modeling Of Breakthrough Curves
Adsorption modeling of breakthrough curves
A successful design of a column adsorption process requires prediction of the concentration time
profile or breakthrough curve for the effluent. (a,aa14, aa15, aa7, aa2). There are two widely used
approaches to obtain the breakthrough curve of a given adsorption system: direct experimentation or
mathematical modeling. The design of an adsorption column through experimental method provides a
direct determination of the salient parameters based on the breakthrough curve. However, the
extensive experimentation is usually a time consuming and economically unfeasible. (B6 )
Comparatively, mathematical modeling is simple and provides a method of estimating the column
adsorption capacity without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A linear regression was applied to equation 4 and the values of No and ka were computed from the
slope and intercept of the BDST plot between ln(Co/Ct 1) versus t at different adsorption parameters
such as flow rate, bed height and influent adsorbate concentration. These BDST parameters were used
to predict the maximum metal uptake capacity (qcal) under different process conditions and were
compared with the experimental values (qexp) in relation to the estimated values of ka and No. As
shown in Table 1a and b, the values ka decreased with increasing bed depth and influent metal
concentration, but increase with increasing flow rates. Meanwhile, the values of No declined with the
increase in bed height and flow rate. This trend can be explained on the fact that at increased bed
heights more number of active sites is available for sorption to give higher total metal uptake but
reduced per unit removal, whereas at increased flow rate the volume of adsorbate that entered the
column was higher and caused the bed to saturate early. As with increased metal concentration, the No
values were found to be increasing due to higher loading of metal on the adsorbent achieved in a short
period of contact. This discussion shows that the overall kinetics of adsorption process is governed by
external mass transfer. (aa26, aa7,aa14, aa27)
The BDST model is valid for the describing the initial part of breakthrough curve

Chevron Essay
Case Study 2 1. Do some Internet research on Chevron s use of seismic imaging technology. Briefly
explain how it works and how it has helped Chevron discover new oil and gas reservoirs?
Seismic imaging technology: Seismic imaging is a tool that bounces sound waves off underground
rock structures to reveal possible crude oil and natural gas bearing formations. Ultrasensitive devices
named as geophones are used by the seismologists to record the sound waves as they echo inside the
earth. After brief research on the echoes, geologists start calculating the depth and structures of buried
geologic formations. This kind of analysis may help them identify oil and gas bearing reservoirs
which are hiding underneath the earth s surface. Most of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of Sanitation In Armall
Lack of solid waste collection and poor drainage combined with lack of safe pit latrines brings up poor
hygiene conditions in Armall. Therefore, the inadequate sanitation and hygiene practices in Armall
resulted in morbidity and mortality due to endemic infections, which cause diarrhoea and other
illnesses. Sanitation in Armall was severely neglected by both the service utility and the households
because some people in Armall were using open defecation, others used plastic bags as toilets and
others did the defecation in streets. Lack of water and sanitation in Armall has a serious effect on the
people s health, which has also created poverty to most households. As a nation, what should be born

The Science Of Determination The Figure Of The Earth
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Research Background:
Geodesy is considered, according to Bruns (1878) and Helmert (1884), as the science of determination
the figure of the earth as well as its gravitational field. This covers the basic general form of the earth
as a flattened rotational ellipsoid and the visible topographic surface resulted from gravitational
attraction of uneven inner masses. Thus, physical and geometric aspects are inseparably correlated
(Moritz 2015).
In geodesy, the figure of the earth refers to the figure extracted physically or mathematically from the
true surface of the earth (Moritz 1990). This includes the geoid and the reference ellipsoid along with
the normal ellipsoid. While the geoid can be interpreted as the physical figure of the earth, the
reference ellipsoid can be considered as the mathematical figure of the earth, and the normal ellipsoid
can be considered as the mathematical and physical figure of the earth. However, the reference
ellipsoid and the normal ellipsoid are a close approximation of the geoid. Hence, the figure of the
earth studied in geodesy mainly refers to the figure of the geoid (Lu et al. 2014).
Geoid is defined as an equipotential surface of the earth s gravity potential, where the mean surface of
the oceans particularly forms a part (Hofmann Wellenhof and Moritz 2005). On oceans, the geoid
agrees with the mean sea surface, more precisely, with a calm ocean surface subjected only to the
force of gravity, which is assumed

To Kill A Mockingbird Social Class Analysis
A Need For Change In western culture, people are treated differently based on resources, family
heritage, and now personal achievements. Social classing and the consequences of it have been
prevalent in societies since ancient times. Although it has been called by different names such as caste,
stratification, Bourgeoisie vs. Aristocrats, and Plebeians vs. Patricians, social inequality remains. In To
Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee paints a picture of the distinct type of social classing that existed in a
small Alabama town in the early 1900s. Based on skin color, background, and wealth, people are
considered to be upper, middle, or lower class. Examples of social classing appear in the book through
the Ewells reputation, through Aunt Alexandra s views of other families, and during Scout s first day
at school. The Ewells are considered poor white trash. Notorious for laziness and living off of the
government s money, they do not contribute to society. Every town the size of Maycomb had families
like the Ewells. No economic fluctuations changed their status people like the Ewells lived as guests
of the county in prosperity as well as in the depths of depression. (227). People in Maycomb avoid the
Ewells because of their economic state and lack of concern about it. ... Show more content on

because it allows you to make resources that you would not have. In Cast Away, chuck is filled with

He creates a sail out a porta potty that is a key component to the boat. And lastly he makes a friend out

Observing The Preoperational Stage Essay
Observing the Preoperational Stage This past week I had the opportunity to conduct several
conservation tasks with children at the Rainbow and Rhymes Preschool. I decided to perform two
conservation tasks to each child which are a conservation of number and conservation of mass. The
professor provided us with the scripts for both tasks and I did the best to replicate the tasks that were
described in the book on pages 139 to 141. Based on the readings and class discussions, I had a
hypothesis about the results of the two tasks that I planned to replicate. I hypothesized that the older
children would be able to perform well on both tasks than the younger children who would perform
well in one task or the other. I believe this because of centration, older children might have less

Essay about The Woman in Black
The woman in black: how does Arthur s character change during the course of the story?
At the beginning of the story Arthur is a proud and striving townsman, who enjoys life. This satisfying
state deteriorates by the dreadful experiences he encounters during his stay at Eel marsh house. This
affects him for the rest of his life.
Arthur was an ambitious man, who was interested in building his future; we learn this in the first
chapter:
This house was one day to be my own home. (p13)
To finance these ambitions he hopes to take more responsibility in the business so that he can ask for a
pay rise from Mr Bentley his employer. (p41)
On the train journey to Crythin Gifford Arthur expresses his pride in his job by saying: ... Show more

Whatever little Arthur hears about it he classifies it as tales that had grown out of proportion.
When Arthur sees the woman in black for the second time near Eel marsh at the burial ground, he has
a slight suspicion that she is not a human being:
Who she was or what and how she had vanished, such questions I did not ask myself...I did not
believe in ghosts.
but what other explanations was there?(p66 and 68)
This creates a little bit of curiosity in Arthur s mind and soon or later he finds out what she really is.
It was Arthur s experiences at Eel Marsh house which damaged his mental and physical life.
For how long I sat there, in extremes of despair and fear fullness, I do not know. (p76)
When a person like Arthur who adopts such high grades of fearlessness and resiliency expresses his
fear in such a manner he must have been terribly scared. Surely such levels of fear must affect a
person.
A key point in the story is when Arthur visits Eel Marsh house he explains his experiences as follows:
I had been as badly frightened as a man could be (p85).
Arthur was such a brave and resilient man, the same man who dismissed all the stories that he had
heard as tales that had grown out of proportion, must have experienced intense levels of fear to be so
terrified. These experiences change Arthur himself into a completely different man who now lacks in
physical activity and

Essay on The Molten Core Theory
The Molten Core Theory
The center of the Earth is composed of a solid metallic core surrounded by a molten layer of liquid
metal. This paper will discuss the reasons to believe the theory that the Earth has a molten core, and
the important discoveries that have led to this generally accepted theory. It is very reasonable to agree
with this theory when paying credence to the logical evidence that answers questions about the Earth s
core. This evidence includes information about the elemental make up of the Earth, the reason for the
Earth s magnetic field, and some of the possibilities of the Earth s formation.

This tells them what, and how much of an element should be present in the Earth. This is how
scientists know what is present in the Earth. This is also what allows them to make judgments on what
is present deep inside of the Earth.
A recent study by professor of geology, Xiaodong Song, explains another way to affirm the
composition and structure of the interior of the Earth is through the use of seismic waves. Seismic
waves are waves created by movement in the Earth. These waves can have different properties that
can react with changing densities within the earth. Knowing the different reactions can be used to
determine the density of the earth at the different depths. It is also a powerful tool in determining the
elements present in the earth. Taking into consideration the different ways the waves react to the
elements can provide a clue as to the element that the wave has contacted. Certain seismic waves pass
through the Earth at different speeds, and furthermore, specific elements and compounds in the Earth
cause those waves to disperce differently. The different rates that these waves move at different depths
gives geologist information on the varying densities and compostition of the Earth at the locations.
Through the same basic idea of seismic waves and densities geologist have gathered enough evidence
to believe that the Earth has a solid core, surrounded by molten, metallic, elements. This is determined

Wrongful Convictions And Its Effect On Society
Introduction Many of us are familiar with historical films such as The Shawshank Redemption , but
the reality is that wrongful convictions have occurred throughout history and although less frequently,
still occur today. A wrongful conviction can greatly impact an individual s life and may continue to be
an issue even after exoneration. Many people are under the impression that individuals who are
wrongfully convicted and later exonerated have won the battle over the justice system, however this is
rarely the case. Exonerees experience great amounts of hardship once released back into society. There
are flaws in the justice system, which make it extremely difficult for exonerees to experience true
freedom. Wrongful convictions occur not only in the United States, but also across the entire globe. It
is a serious injustice when an innocent person is forced to experience life as a convicted felon. Causes
of Wrongful Convictions Although numerous cases of wrongful convictions have been documented in
the literature and in the media, criminologists have yet to devise a methodology for estimating the
extent of such errors in the criminal justice system. (Poveda, 2001) Since DNA testing has been
utilized in the justice system, wrongful convictions have become less frequent and exoneration rates
have increased. There are many factors involved when consider the causes of wrongful convictions.
Eyewitness misidentification is a leading cause for wrongful convictions. (Innocence

ideas, and emotions closely guarded. Determining how to phrase my thoughts, ideas and emotions is
very difficult and the words often become jumbled in my head. For this reason I am often hesitant to
share them with others. When I do present ideas or suggestions they are often regarded as unique and

  • 9. Pecola Race Through the dynamic characters and character experiences that occur within the book, Toni Morrison is able to illustrate a racist America where society reinforces the idea that the white race is superior. Colored characters are taught by society that their own race is subordinate and that they are not worthy of the same amount of respect as their superiors. These characters continue to teach this idea within their race and create an ideology that even within the same race appearance decides whether or not a person is worthy. This instills the idea of self hatred and the longing to be a blue eyed middle class person. Characters associate the white and blue eyes with that of economic stability and self worth. • 10. The United States And The Middle East Following World War II, the major international powers in the Middle East began to lose influence over the area. In 1946, France and Great Britain were forced to withdrawal from their colonized states by the United Nation Security Council when a delegation of the Middle Eastern countries called for the removal the colonial mandates on Middle East, specifically in Palestine (Department of Public Information). While Britain and France did not completely abandon their influence over the area, the removal of their direct influence over the Middle East left an opening for the two new superpowers, the United States and the Soviet Union, to enter the scene. The two world powers were in stark competition after World War II in an attempt to spread their political ideology. The Middle East became a new battleground for the Cold War after the removal of France and Great Britain. The two countries were drawn to the Middle East because of both their rivalry and their own specific interests, but their actions had major regional repercussions on the area and the relations between countries. The expression of the rivalry between the two countries came in three forms: direct engagement, alliances, and military aid. This transfer of ions is what generates the electrical impulse of the heart and causes the heart to act as a single unit instead of individual cells (Marieb Hoehn, 2013). Cardiac conduction occurs because there are gap junctions for ions to pass through and because of the heart s intrinsic conduction system, which is composed of non contractile cardiac cells that are specifically designed to start and distribute electric impulses through the cardiac cells so that depolarization and contractions are orderly and sequential. The contractile cells sustain stable membrane resting potential when they are unstimulated, however, the resting potential of the autorhythmic cells, that create the intrinsic conduction system, is unstable and is constantly depolarizing, which is called pacemaker potentials and initiate the action potential that causes the heart to contract (Marieb Hoehn, 2013). The pace maker potential occurs because of the ion channels which causes hyperpolarization at the end of the action potentials. This hyperpolarization causes the K+ channels to close while simultaneously opening the Na+ channels, which allows an imbalance of K+ and Na+ to occur making the cardiac cells to become more positive. This includes the ethical obligations of researchers toward the participants in their research, which are enforced by institutional review boards at American research colleges and universities. In these studies, researchers are required to provide the following: (a) informed consent of the purpose of the research, its expected duration, and any potential risks, discomfort, or adverse associated with it ; (b) protection for harm and discomfort; (c) knowledge of deception in a study and debriefing once the study has concluded. These obligations are required to protect research participants. However, these are not always followed in research. (a,aa14, aa15, aa7, aa2). There are two widely used approaches to obtain the breakthrough curve of a given adsorption system: direct experimentation or mathematical modeling. The design of an adsorption column through experimental method provides a direct determination of the salient parameters based on the breakthrough curve. A linear regression was applied to equation 4 and the values of No and ka were computed from the slope and intercept of the BDST plot between ln(Co/Ct 1) versus t at different adsorption parameters such as flow rate, bed height and influent adsorbate concentration. These BDST parameters were used to predict the maximum metal uptake capacity (qcal) under different process conditions and were compared with the experimental values (qexp) in relation to the estimated values of ka and No. As shown in Table 1a and b, the values ka decreased with increasing bed depth and influent metal concentration, but increase with increasing flow rates. Meanwhile, the values of No declined with the increase in bed height and flow rate. This trend can be explained on the fact that at increased bed heights more number of active sites is available for sorption to give higher total metal uptake but reduced per unit removal, whereas at increased flow rate the volume of adsorbate that entered the column was higher and caused the bed to saturate early. As with increased metal concentration, the No values were found to be increasing due to higher loading of metal on the adsorbent achieved in a short period of contact. This discussion shows that the overall kinetics of adsorption process is governed by external mass transfer. • 25. The Science Of Determination The Figure Of The Earth CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Research Background: Geodesy is considered, according to Bruns (1878) and Helmert (1884), as the science of determination the figure of the earth as well as its gravitational field. This covers the basic general form of the earth as a flattened rotational ellipsoid and the visible topographic surface resulted from gravitational attraction of uneven inner masses. Thus, physical and geometric aspects are inseparably correlated (Moritz 2015). In geodesy, the figure of the earth refers to the figure extracted physically or mathematically from the true surface of the earth (Moritz 1990). This includes the geoid and the reference ellipsoid along with the normal ellipsoid. While the geoid can be interpreted as the physical figure of the earth, the reference ellipsoid can be considered as the mathematical figure of the earth, and the normal ellipsoid can be considered as the mathematical and physical figure of the earth. However, the reference ellipsoid and the normal ellipsoid are a close approximation of the geoid. Hence, the figure of the earth studied in geodesy mainly refers to the figure of the geoid (Lu et al. 2014). Geoid is defined as an equipotential surface of the earth s gravity potential, where the mean surface of the oceans particularly forms a part (Hofmann Wellenhof and Moritz 2005). On oceans, the geoid agrees with the mean sea surface, more precisely, with a calm ocean surface subjected only to the force of gravity, which is assumed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper will discuss the reasons to believe the theory that the Earth has a molten core, and the important discoveries that have led to this generally accepted theory. It is very reasonable to agree with this theory when paying credence to the logical evidence that answers questions about the Earth s core. This tells them what, and how much of an element should be present in the Earth. This is how scientists know what is present in the Earth. This is also what allows them to make judgments on what is present deep inside of the Earth. A recent study by professor of geology, Xiaodong Song, explains another way to affirm the composition and structure of the interior of the Earth is through the use of seismic waves. Seismic waves are waves created by movement in the Earth. These waves can have different properties that can react with changing densities within the earth. Knowing the different reactions can be used to determine the density of the earth at the different depths. It is also a powerful tool in determining the elements present in the earth. Taking into consideration the different ways the waves react to the elements can provide a clue as to the element that the wave has contacted. Certain seismic waves pass through the Earth at different speeds, and furthermore, specific elements and compounds in the Earth cause those waves to disperce differently. The different rates that these waves move at different depths gives geologist information on the varying densities and compostition of the Earth at the locations. Through the same basic idea of seismic waves and densities geologist have gathered enough evidence to believe that the Earth has a solid core, surrounded by molten, metallic, elements.
