Can Hybrid Cars Can Improve Fuel Efficiency And Save The...
Can hybrid cars can improve fuel efficiency and save the environment? A debate has recently arisen;
are hybrid automobiles that much more fuel efficient than the average car, and is the higher sticker
price worth the investment? Questions have also been asked about the hope of reducing environmental
pollution. Are government rebates and dealer incentives worth the additional investment of purchasing
these higher priced cars? What is the adoption rate among consumers to these automobiles? Gas
mileage can be defined as: how many miles a car or truck can travel on one gallon of gasoline
(Marland English, 2015). As fossil fuels continue to be depleted, our civilization must look at cost
efficient ways to accomplish daily tasks. Hybrid cars use a combination of the gasoline engine with
electronic motors to achieve a number of objectives. This differs from the new totally electricity
powered cars that run on charged batteries. According to www.fueleconomy.gov; a vehicle that gets 30
MPG will cost you $545 less to fuel each year than one that gets 20 MPG, assuming 15000 miles of
driving annually and a fuel cost of $2.18 ( Save Money , 2015). Over time this can lead to huge
savings in fuel costs to the average consumer. As oil prices continue to rise and fall, a more fuel
efficient car could provide some comfort to the financially stressed customer. A person must take into
consideration if the savings in fuel costs are worth the higher investment price of a hybrid. On
average,

Brief Historical Development and Contributions of Chemistry for Modern Civilization
Introduction: As defined by Oxford Dictionary, Chemistry is the scientific study of the structure of
substances, how they react when combined or in contact with one another and how they behave under
different conditions . In other words, Chemistry is the study of the materials and substances of the
world in which we live. The materials, which make up the earth, sea and air, are called raw materials.
These include many importance natural resources like ores, rocks, coal, and gas.
According to me, Chemistry is the study of the composition and properties of matter. Chemistry

They thought that metals in the earth sought to become more and more perfect and thus gradually
changed into gold. It seemed to them that they should be able to carry out the same process more
rapidly in their own workshops and so artificially to transmute common metals into gold. Beginning
about 100 AD this idea dominated the minds of the philosophers as well as the metalworkers, and a
large number of treatises were written on the art of transmutation, which became known as alchemy.
At almost the same time, and probably independently, a similar alchemy arose in China. Here, also,
the aim was to make gold, although not because of the monetary value of the metal. The Chinese
believed that gold was a medicine that could confer long life or even immortality on anyone who
consumed it. As did the Egyptians, the Chinese gained practical chemical knowledge from incorrect
theories.
In the 7th and 8th centuries Arab conquerors spread Islamic culture over much of Asia Minor, North
Africa, and Spain. The caliphs at Baghdâd became active patrons of science and learning. The Syriac
translation of Greek texts were again translated, this time into Arabic, and along with the rest of Greek
learning the ideas and practice of alchemy once again flourished.
A great intellectual reawakening began in western Europe in the 11th century. This was stimulated in

Marvel s Influence On Morals
Aaron Jeu Instructor Acevedo English 100 23 July 2015 Superheroes Influence on Morals Often
times, one may observe that any young child s piece of clothing or backpack is plastered with the face
of some known or unknown superhero portrayed in popular culture, on television and in the movies.
These superheroes are found throughout American society. Because superheroes are growing more
popular amongst mass marketing for motion pictures and their merchandise is constantly targeting
children and young adults, these iconic figures have been assimilated into American culture. Through
the years, the infiltration of superheroes have become one with the everyday lives of young

On the surface level, children are able to learn and determine these behaviors in a black and white
manner. As a child matures, it is necessary for an adult, an educator, or a parent to come into play to
properly foster and edify the child s moral understanding. These depictions of superheroes fighting
crime in itself are not detrimental to society on its own. It is the interpretation of what goes on through
the form of entertainment and its long term effects that it has on an individual if misconceived. Others
may beg to differ and advocate that such examples of violent or aggressive behaviors through video
games (Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Destiny, etc.) are destructive and immoral influences on
individuals. While it is case by case for every individual, Gerard Jones, writer for Marvel Comics and
many other comic book publishers, asserts that exposure to violent media does have its positive
impacts on an individual s morals and well being. In his essay, Violent Media Is Good for Kids, Jones
recounts his experience as a child being walled between the crudest elements of American pop culture
because his parents taught him that rage was something to be overcome and cooperation and

The Law, Justice, And Stability
Society would be in turmoil if we didn t have laws. We would live in a barbaric world without rights,
justice, and stability. People would have many diverse viewpoints and would never be able to sustain
relationships with one another. So the question is: what is the purpose of the law, what is it s main
objective and why is it uniquely capable of achieving unknown answers? The most deceptive motive
is because we do in fact have protection, justice, stability and relationships in our society. The reason
we have those things is the implementation of the law. Our society as a majority wants those values
implemented in their daily lives. Our society is so large will never have one unified view on various
subjects, so our system has been made that we are persuaded into the viewpoints of a majority.
Additionally, the main objective of the law is to be a binding set of rules that persuade society into a
majority view, in order to maintain a secure community. Our system of regulations in the United
States serves the purpose of embodying the majoritarian perspective of society. Law is implemented
because there needs to be a way to govern these various perspectives. Society needs guidelines to be
able to survive, be organized, and not be chaotic. Moreover, according to the Constitution, we the
people are the sovereign people of this system. That means people in society are actively living, and
participating with the laws everyday. Not to mention, there are professionals whom society

Qualia In The Great Gatsby
Time is a critical concern for Fitzgerald s axiological and epistemic narratives through chapter six.
There are many factors to show this, such as Gatsby s value and its similarity to the riddle of qualia ,
as well as what Nick learns and understands about his own, and others value qualia. Gatsby s value is
a topic to be considered when attempting to discuss this thesis. Gatsby appears to value the past, more
specifically the positive, romantic experiences of his past. Fitzgerald provides evidence for this at the
end of chapter six, when Gatsby proclaims I m going to fix everything just the way it was before .
Evidence for this also appears later in the form of two paragraphs describing [o]ne autumn night, five
years before. This may

So what is it that makes this game win over millions? Is it the thrill of the game? Or is it the poker
chips we play with? To be honest it s a bit of both but probably the biggest factor that makes poker so
much fun is unpredictability. Of course if you re a math whiz you can increase your chances of
winning by working out the probability of your hand winning a round, but not all people are like Ben
Campbell, the mastermind in the movie 21 who cheated the system with his fast math calculations to
win big while gambling. So what makes you sure that your hand is going to win as compared to your
opponents? Well firstly if you have a high combination of cards then you win, that s how the game
goes. But sometimes you don t know whether your opponent has a higher combination of cards or is
he just bluffing. Well nobody can tell what your opponent has. You can only make an estimate of what
that person might possibly have. In order to do that you have to focus extremely carefully at every
move your opponent makes: from his eye movements to his betting. Every move should be monitored.
There are many ways poker players do that. The first thing they do when the first three cards are
turned is to increase the bet, regardless of the card combination one has. If someone folds then they
are automatically out of the picture for that round, but if someone calls then you can figure out that
that particular opponent has a

Australian Health Care Essay
Oral health in Australia is a concern. The impact of poor dental health can instigate ulcers, gingivitis,
gum disease and damage one s overall health. Tooth decay is extensive among Australian adults, and
tooth aches are a considerable amount of hospital admission for children (Parliament of Australia,
2013). Two in three children aged 14 years have deteriorated permanent teeth, while three in ten adults
receive no treatment at all. Adults living in rural Australia are 1.7 times more likely to have no teeth
than those in major cities. 14 percent of children and 37 percent of adults avoid or delaying seeing a
dentist due to costs (Australian Institude of Health and Welfare, 2012). The advantages of installing a

The impact on the health system alone will have a dynamic consequences for younger Australians.
Financing this becomes problematic, Australia already spends 9.5 percent of gross domestic product
(GPI) was health care services (Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development, 2013) and
costs will only escalate. The health workforce in 2011 had 3.3 doctors and 10.1 nurses per 100 000
population however 25 percent of those were over the age of 55 years (Organisation for Economic Co
operation and Development, 2013). Then there is community expectations on receiving services free
or at a very low cost. Not to mentation globalisation which requires high efficient technology to
transmit information internationally and finally government overregulation.
Ensuring effective and cost efficient health care is not an easy battle however, some pre planning is
required. Similar to superannuation funds, a foundation needs to be established for each Australian
worker, then a percentage of their income should be paid directly into this reserve and may be drawn
against when health care issues arise. This would elevate some of the financing pressure and
community expectations. The Medicare levy tax would still be charged to cover medical training,
research, technology and assist vulnerable Australians.

Napoleon s Letters From An Italian Nobleman s Family
Acquiring insight into the personalities and feelings of any historical figure is a tricky thing. Often we
are left with secondary, and sometimes very biased, accounts of how individuals conducted
themselves in various situations in their lives. But luckily, we are sometimes left with vivid sources
penned by figures themselves, and that is what we have with Napoleon s letters. Through them we can
hope to gain a better and more well rounded look into the life one of the most loved, and reviled, men
in recent history.
To begin, let us take a look at Napoleon s letters to his immediate family. Letter 71 is addressed to his
sister Pauline, who in 1803 had married into an Italian nobleman s family. In this letter, Napoleon
expresses his love for his sister, and wishes her nothing but happiness, showing a tender and brotherly
side not often associated with the conquering emperor. But this letter is also no simple social call, but
a request that his sister make herself known and appreciated as a socialite in the city of Rome, seat of
the Papal States. This is a shrewd and clever move on his part, displaying an understanding of the
delicacies of statesmanship and foreign opinion.
In letter 109, a brief note penned in 1806 to his sister Elisa, Napoleon urges her to only allow dresses
of silk and batiste to be worn at the court of her husband in Italy. He insists that preference may be
given to the products of French industry , and is fully confident that such fashion will become

Censorship in Media Essay
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise

Throughout the history of the United States of America, the Constitution has always been put to the
test. The founders of this country created the first amendment to allow colonists to speak out against
the British. In the 17th century, the press was accurate and informative with little competition among
journalists. But today in the 21st century the circumstances are different and the stakes are higher. Due
to the great level of competition among journalists today, the news is often exaggerated in order to

?The media can make us wiser, fuller, sure and sweeter than we are? (Orr 61). But, the media can also
cloud the public?s judgments, and cause confusion and disillusion as well.
From Churchill to Hitler to the former Soviet Union, it is quite clear that radio, television and
newspapers have the power to change and make history. A clear example of the power of the media
was when Orson Welles? made his famous radio broadcast about ?witnessing? the landing of a
spaceship full of Martians. ?America saw that the power of the media could appeal to the public easily
and cause mass hysteria? (Williams 25).
Noam Chomsky, an established political thinker and magazine editor, stated in an interview in 1990: ?
If you follow mainstream media with great care and skepticism and approach it with the right
understanding of how propaganda works, then you can learn a lot. The normal reader is fooled into
believing the propaganda that they are being fed. The media shapes and selects the events and offer
their biased opinions to the mass audiences.? ?The media modifies information to fill what they
believe the public?s interest is? (Szykowny 9).
The media feels that they should act as a ?watchdog.? This causes many of the ethical problems
among the media because they assume the responsibility of keeping a check on the government, by
acting as governmental critics, governmental experts, etc. The media digs, researches, and

Effect Of Substrate Concentration On Enzyme Activity
The Effect of Environmental Conditions on Enzyme Activity
Ikram Hassan
SBI3UW 02
November 13, 2017.
Research Question: What is the effect of substrate concentration (as measured in % concentration) on
the rate of enzyme activity (as calculated by the dividing the measured distance in cm, +/ 0.1 cm,
travelled by a substance in a manometer by the time in seconds, +/ 0.5 seconds)?
Background:
A substrate is a molecule which is acted upon by an enzyme. For a chemical reaction to occur through
enzyme, substrate molecules bind to the active site of an enzyme, which contains residues that
catalyse the reaction of the substrate.
Hypothesis: If the concentration of the substrate is increased, then the rate of enzyme activity will
decrease. This is because as the concentration of the substrate increases, there is an increasing amount
of occupied active sites at any given moment. This will cause a decrease in the rate of enzyme activity
as substrate active site collisions are increasingly slowed down thus bringing down the rate of enzyme
activity.
Variables:
Independent: Substrate Concentration: Throughout the experiment, the concentration of the substrate
used will be increased in order to determine the effect of an increase of substrate concentration on
enzyme activity. The substrate throughout the experiment will be a hydrogen peroxide solution and an
original 30% concentration will be diluted with water into 10% and 5% concentrations in order to

Film History
The History of film has been influenced by the discovery and testing of paradoxes intrinsic in the
medium itself. machines are used record images of anything; it combines still photographs to give the
appearance of continuous motion; it seems to present life itself, but it also offers unthinkable
unrealities approached only in dreams.
The motion picture was unfolded in the 1890s from the union of still photography, which records
actual reality, with the persistence of vision toy, which made drawn frames appear to move. Four
major film traditions have advanced since then: fictional narrative film, which reveals stories about
people with whom an audience can recognize because their world looks familiar; nonfictional

Sensors And Instrumentation
An Introduction to Sensors and Instrumentation
Chapter 1 Introduction to Sensors and Transducers
Instrumentation is defined as the art and science of measurement and control which is considered as
working with instruments used to measure, record, and control process variables (for examples, fluid
level and flow, temperature, and pressure). Control and measurement systems are very widely used in
the petroleum product (oil and gas) industries, chemical and fertilizer industry, the pulp and paper
industry, power generation, food processing and several other complex process. Control systems have
attained significant applications in automotive industrial processes for the improved productivity,
conserved entry, and reduced pollution. Instrumentation and control systems continue to be an
extremely important field of technology with the rapid growth of industrial sector.
Instruments are devices which are used to measure attributes of physical systems. The variable
measured includes practically any measurable variable (called measurand) related to the physical

A refugee is generally thought of as an individual who flees their country due to (but not limited to)
racial, religious, or ideological persecution. These people often leave war torn countries where
violence and tyranny strips the very freedoms and opportunities that are the inalienable backbone of
the United States. It is no surprise, then, that immigrants from every stretch of the planet have settled
in America, freely practicing their beliefs and often playing a critical role in the entrepreneurial
development of our capitalist foundation. One such group is the Chaldeans. Hailing from small

Too Much Pressure On American Teenagers
There is Too Much Pressure on American Teenagers to Go to College Everyday American teenagers
are being pressured on graduating high school and going directly to college. Parents and counselors

Teenagers face many factors that cause pressure to go to college: worries about keeping up, fear of
failure, feeling of stress and anxiety, social pressures academic pressure, human influences, the
economy, and college itself . Pressure to succeed has gotten to high levels and is only becoming more

fail, most of them would think they are a failure at life because of how much the parents and
counselors forced college upon them. Students think that they are expected to achieve such a big task,
like college, so quick and perfect that if they do not complete it, people are disappointed. Students
often get the failure lecture from many people if the students actually do fail. Teens do not need to be

Our Economy Changing Not only does the fear of failure pressure young people, but the fact that our

citizens in the United States (The Epic Rise Of America s Services Industry [CHARTS]). Then with
the new health care industry, the industrial economy started to fade away. The health care and social
assisting jobs then took over. It was a slow but fast and drastic change to the United States. Now
adults expect young people to know how the service economy works and how to succeed in it

A Discussion Of Madness In Society During The Middle Ages
The Oxford dictionary defines madness as The state of having a serious mental illness . Madness has
been construed in several different ways throughout centuries and literature. Before and during the
Middle Ages madness was mostly seen as a suggestion of sorcery/witchcraft or demonic possession,
or an imbalance of the humors blood, black bile, yellow bile and phlegm, or as an effect of the moon
(since it was believed that madness was caused as a result of sleeping in a place where the moon
beams struck a person s head and thereby the word lunacy was derived from the Latin word luna for
moon). However, some considered the mentally ill to be divinely gifted, that is, being gifted with the
power of speech/words (poets, writers, etc) and thereby the treatment and attitudes towards the
mentally ill varied from exorcism, confinement, trephination (used for people who were thought to be
possessed by demons and involved drilling a hole in the person s head to drive evil spirits out of the
body), whipping, etc. The sixteenth saw the establishment of asylums and hospitals which
accommodated and confined the mentally ill, destitute and vagabonds, the jobless and the outlaws. All
the unwanted people or the undesirables were shunned by the society and sent to these institutions. St.
Mary of Bethlehem in London which was popularly known as Bedlam and the Hopital General of

Example Of D-Day Narrative Report
June 8 of this summer in Normandy France, I had the privilege to pay my respects at the American

The Pulitzer Prize winning writer N. Scott Momaday has become known as a very distinctive writer
who depicts the stories of the Native American life in almost poetic ways. He does an excellent job of

style of writing that Momaday uses is very evident in his work The Way to Rainy Mountain, and made

One aspect of the essay The Way to Rainy Mountain that I found somewhat distracting was when
Momaday would move off of the obvious aspect of his journey home. Even though I very much
enjoyed the amazing descriptions that he used in telling of the lands from where his people came, I
found it hard to grasp the purpose behind the side stories that were being told. I had latched onto the
story of him returning home to his grandmother s grave since that was the first aspect presented to me
as the reader. Once I had read the text over and studied it a little more deeply, I realized that the
purpose of the story was not to tell of Momaday s journey back to rainy mountain, but to tell the story
of the Kiowa s journey to Rainy Mountain. I thought it was a little distracting the first time I read
because I was distracted by all of the information that Momaday was telling about the Kiowa people
and their history. I kept expecting to hear of his trip back to Rainy Mountain and what he was
experiencing during this time. As I said before, it was not until I went back and reread the essay did I
catch on about the true point to the story. This might have been avoided if Momaday had made it
clearer that the focus of the story was on the Kiowa people and not his journey back to see his
grandmother s grave. Once I understood this

Summary Of Peace Like A River By Leif Enger
We and the world, my children, will always be at war. Retreat is impossible. Arm yourselves. (Enger
4). In Peace Like a River, by Leif Enger, writes about a family, the Lands, that lives in a little town
called Roofing, Minnesota. Our narrator is Rueben, a 10 year old boy with severe asthma. The father
is Jeramiah, a local school janitor who performs miracles for only Rueben to see. Then there is the
sister Swede (9) and the eldest brother Davy (16). This humble, religious family is caught up in a
messy situation when Jeremiah witnesses two boys by the name of Tommy Basca and Israel Finch
beat up a girl named Dolly. Jeremiah comes to her rescue and beats the boys off of her. Dolly is
coincidentally Davy Land s girlfriend. Tommy and Israel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Rueban was born, he was not breathing. In fact, he was not breathing for twelve minutes. His
lungs did not work properly from the start of his life. Presently in the story, Rueben still gets severe
asthma attacks that could kill him. He draped a blanket over my head for a steam tent. Immediately it
was so hot under here I imagined my face darkening and rising like a loaf of yeast bread, but my chest
did start to loosen, (Enger 20). This demonstrates harshness in the world by how a loving, faithful,
good family has to have one child with a disease that can kill him. Jeremiah is peaceful, Catholic,
person who devotes his life to God, but still has a child with asthma. Jeremiah is doing everything
right in life, but still has to worry if his son will make it through the night without an asthma attack

The Yugoslavian Conflict Essay
The Yugoslavian Conflict
Yugoslavia is a country burdened by feuding sides in a war that cannot soon be resolved. The United
Nations are attempting to help the situation, but until the people of Yugoslavia can come to an
agreement continued warfare and heartache is inevitable.
The problems in Yugoslavia began because the country is separated into two distinct parts. The north
and west parts of the country were once under the rule of the Austro Hungarian Empire, and the south
and the east were controlled by the Ottoman Empire. This had extreme effects on the ethnic, cultural
and economic differences between the two sides. The three major religions in Yugoslavia were Greek
Orthodox, Christianity, Roman Catholicism, and Islam. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The whole affair was organized as military support to the federal police and customs personnel. The
Slovenians offered strong resistance with their territorial defense units, politically organized the
withdrawal of their representatives from the presidency and the Executive Council of Yugoslavia, and
directed a massive propaganda campaign presenting themselves as victims of brutal Yugoslavian
National Army aggression.
Croatia also attempted to claim independence, but they had a problem that the Slovenians didn t have
to deal with. They had a large population of
Serbians in Croatia and with the new laws that the Croatian government tried to impose the minority
Serbians were given no rights as a minority and were forced to go by the new found Croatian law. This
caused conflicts inside Croatia between the Serbian rebels and the Croatian National Guard who tried
to keep order. Many of these conflicts left many people dead and wounded. The
Yugoslavian National Army (JNA) openly sided with the Serbian rebels, the
Croatians used this opportunity to start an all out anti JNA campaign. The JNA responded by saying
that it took orders from the Presidency of Yugoslavia, not from Tudjman, the Croatian leader, and that
it was constitutionally obliged to protect the integrity of the country and to preserve peace when it was
endangered. Tudjman put all army units in Croatia on highest alert and ordered to shoot back if shot

Eating Disorders And Substance Abuse Essay
Eating Disorders And Substance Abuse
Common Eating Disorders:
The two most common eating disorders are bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa. Both disorders,
primarily affect young women, therefore the majority of the research on eating disorders has been
done with women subjects. The onset of bulimia is between adolescence and early adulthood while
the onset of anorexia is between early and late adolescence. Not only is the onset different but the
disorders are unique. Bulimia nervosa is characterized by loss of control over eating which leads to
food binges. These episodes are interspersed with episodes of purging, such as vomiting or laxative
abuse, to keep weight down. The goal of anorexia is also to keep weight down , but to a ... Show more

Comparably high rates were found in binge eating/purging anorexics (Lilenfeld 1996).
The figures are defined as high because in the general population the rate of alcohol abuse or
dependence in women is twelve percent and ten percent for other drug abuse or dependence. The only
area where drug or alcohol abuse does not appear to be related to eating is with anorexia nervosa. In
this area alcohol abuse appears to be less than the general population.
In another compilation of studies by Schuckit, Tipp, Anthenelli, and Buchotz differing statistics were
found as to whether there was increased alcohol abuse among women with bulimia. One group of
studies regarding bulimia stated that between one fourth and one half of individuals with bulimia
drank one or several times per week or had evidence of a problem with street drugs . Another stated
that between fourteen and over fifty percent of individuals met the criteria for alcohol dependence. Yet
another study found only a twelve percent rate of severe alcohol problems among a group of women
with bulimia. This evidence states that there is no proof for substance abuse increase in bulimia
because the rate in the general

Summary Of Fear And Suspense In Wells Red Room By G. Wells
Wells uses powerful description of the Red Room to create an atmosphere of fear and suspense. Wells
uses sight/sounds in order to conjure vivid images, fear and suspense. For example, there was a distant
echo to my footsteps forms a clear image of suspense because every noise could be the sound of a
ghost. While the shadow in the alcove at the end of the room is also very good because shadows are
associated with ghosts and sadness. Overall, these two sentences are very powerful examples of fear
and suspense and use precise vocabulary to do so. Wells uses light/darkness in order to conjure vivid
images, fear and suspense. For example, sentinel shadows and watching darknesses amps up the
suspense and fear because of the section watching

Neil Shusterman s Unwind
Unwind was a book filled with sass, adventure, and daring escapes. I give it a four point five stars out
of five. The character development was phenomenal and the main female protagonist was great
without being too annoying. But the ending, I feel, was a flop. It was building up to this huge climax
and it just didn t feel that exciting when it happened. Other than the ending being a flop this was a
great book and I feel that more people should read Neil Shusterman s books because his books are
unique from anything else in the YA scene and they will just pull you in from the first sentence. I think
that dystopian has become a very worn out genre in YA literature but this doesn t feel like dystopian it

Harrison Ford is a great actor and he s old enough to fit the bill for the Admiral. Harrison Ford is a
grumpy little cinnamon roll in real life so I think he would do good depicting a fictional grumpy
cinnamon roll. The Admiral s third rule is that, my way is the only way (Shusterman 197), and
Harrison Ford s characters all have that sort of vibe and he plays that role quite well. The Admiral
fought in the civil war and has seen the horrors of battle, in this line it says I fought in the Heartland
War. The scars you so impertinently assumed were transplant scars came from a grenade (Shusterman
222). The Heartland War took place many years before the events in the book take place and Harrison
Ford is around the age of seventy two, so it seems like they d be around the same age.
I also really like Logan Lerman as Connor. Even though they screwed up the Percy Jackson movies, I
still really liked Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson and Connor reminded me of Percy Jackson in
mannerism and in looks. When Connor just randomly says nice socks (Shusterman 101), it reminds
me of something Percy would have done. For me, Percy will forever be Logan Lerman so Connor just
ended up looking like Logan Lerman. Connor is described as having brown eyes on the first page and
Logan Lerman has blue eyes but I think that s a miniscule detail. He could always wear contacts if it

The Story Of Caroline Curry s Essay
Shoot for the moon even if you miss you ll land among the stars, quote by Les Brown. Caroline Curry
did not technically shoot for the moon, but for the soccer goal instead. Making the decision to play
soccer was one she did not regret. I guess you could say it landed on the moon. It may not seem like a
big deal to take up a new sport, but joining soccer was vital to shaping her as a person. The story of
Caroline Curry deciding to play soccer is not an emotional one. I thought I was fat and I should play a
sport. Out of all the sports I thought soccer would be the most forgiving. Little did she know the
impact it would have on her life. After deciding to play soccer she signed up for Montgomery Soccer

How To Treat Eczema
You can effectively treat eczema by removing allergens within your environment. These are the
substances which cause your body to react aversely. The overactive immune system will attack your
body cells upon a trigger from the environment. Some of the most common allergens include perfume,
creams and laundry detergent. At the same time you need to check your diet to remove foods that tend
to bring on the allergic reactions. The common foods that can lead to this sort of reaction include eggs,
fish, peanuts, wheat products and milk. Once these are removed then you have a very good chance of
overcoming the allergy.

you need to keep the body cool at all times. Make sure that you have prepared the skin for all the

Effects Of Corruption In Chile
Corruption is a form of a crime in Chile that has manifested itself into various small and large
businesses, government, and organizations across Chile affecting, individuals on all levels. For
instance, bribery is an estimated $1 trillion business in Latin America seeking to secure power at any
cost, abusing public resources for personal gain and influencing new and existing policies and
regulations to further private agendas (Kaufmann, 2015). Although, there are countries like Chile who
have incorporated stronger economic governance in the effort to combat the effects of corruption and
bring forth transparency, while other countries in Latin America show governance deficit (Kaufmann,
2015). According to Smith, Morris, and Riveros (2013), the 2011 Corruption Perceptions Index

point index (p. 126). Thus, Chile is demonstrating transparency and exercising restraint in matters of
corruption, and the anti corruption efforts are producing favorable results for Chile s government.

Causes Of The French And Indian War Essay
An Examination of the French and Indian Wars
I.Causes
The initial causes of the French and Indian War are based on the increasing colonization of French and
English settlements throughout the Ohio River Valley area. In the 1750s, British colonists were slowly
expanding territorial settlements into the Ohio River Valley from Virginia. In this manner, the English
were aggressively establishing more land claims and rights for the British government. More so, the
English were cooperating with the local Native American tribes in terms of sharing land rights or
respecting the traditions of the indigenous peoples, which often involved military supports and
resources from the Iroquois tribe. In contrast to this colonial development, the French were also
claiming land rights for settlements in the Ohio River Valley by moving east and southwards from the
Great Lakes and French colonial territories in New France. The French also cooperated with local
indigenous peoples, such as the Huron, to fight the British during this historical period. The Huron
people had a long tradition of trade, and other forms of economic and military cooperation to support
this alliance:
The link that joined most of Canada s Indian nations to the French was not a common faith, but a
common interest in the fur trade. On the even of the French and Indian War, The French government
maintained some forty four fortified Indian trading posts, some protected by a small garrison (Cave
46).
These aspects of colonial were a major part of the French alliance with the Huron, but it was also part
of agreements that the British made with the Iroquois during the 1740s and 1750s. However, the

Social Construct and Terrorism
Perceptions, beliefs, and ideas are ever changing. It is through social construction that humans have
constructed definitions and accepted understandings out of surrounding concepts, thus allowing them
to make a socially accepted concept that can be utilized as a baseline of understanding. Galbin (2015)
defines social constructionism as, a theory of knowledge of sociology and communication that
examines the development jointly constructed understanding of the world (p. 48). Additionally, White

When defining terrorism, either domestic or international use, it is evident that a social construct is
present. It is difficult to define or categorize the forms of a terrorist act, or what constitutes as a
terrorist act based on what each party agrees to be an actual form of terrorism. These issues within
terrorism and crime emerge due to the vast diversity within the United States and the world. A law
abiding citizen in the United States could easily be breaking many laws in another country due to the
social construct that is present. Or even a belief system or political agenda might be accepted by one
group while considered extremists or terroristic in nature by others. Furthermore, social
constructionism and its role in terrorism and crime are based on who is looking through the viewfinder
at that specific point in time. There is an understanding and belief that there is crime and terrorism
throughout the world, yet specifically pinpointing an underlining understanding of what terrorism and
crime is has not been widely accepted (White, 2014, p. 4). It goes without saying that perception is
based on reality and that everyone has different perceptions, beliefs, and ideas that each produces a

Essay On Ancient Mesopotamian Religion
What similarities can you find between the religions of Ancient Mesopotamian today?
Much like tens of thousands of years ago, religion is still a central component of our lives today. Some
of the most popular religions today are Christianity and Judaism, both based on the Old
Testament/Hebrew Bible and both based in the Near East. Because of cultural assimilation within the
region, it would only be logical for the religions of today to share some similarities of those
established in Ancient Mesopotamia.
One of the most famous lines of the Bible takes place in Genesis 1:1, which states In the beginning
God created the heavens and earth. This line is much like a similar creation myth from the Sumerians
where Marduk creates the heavens and earth by using the body of the slain goddess Tiamut who
personified watery chaos, proceeded to create the universe by dividing Tiamat in two, one part
becoming the heavens and the other the earth with her breasts as mountains. From her eyes came the

Year-Round Schooling Argumentative Analysis

many advantages and very few disadvantages of year round schooling, it is not surprising that these

Not only can year round schooling improve the academic performance of students, but it can also

story are based on a real life story of Cameron Crowe, the film s writer and director, who was a
teenage Rolling Stone writer himself. It portrays how Crowe fell in love, lost his virginity and met
heroes that are shared by the protagonist himself. Influenced by the works of rock music and artists his
sister had left behind, William gets assigned by Rolling Stone magazine to do a profile of a rising rock
band, called Stillwater.
The film is ideally about a young kid who sees the real world, witnesses its cruelties and heartbreaks,
and yet finds room for hope. The idea of real is demonstrated when Lester Bangs advises William to
make his stories real and honest. He looks for purity and truth in ... Show more content on

Based on people s likings and interests, certain media apps or other trends become popular. For
instance, Ipods, Ipads, and Iphones are really popular because you can access your facebook, twitter,
tumblr and instagram on the go. This represents Pop culture because Apple is really good at marketing
which explains why they are so popular. Likewise, Stillwater was a band that was liked by many. In
order to increase their fame, they wanted the audience to perceive them as hard working and wanted to
earn an image of good song writing on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. The experience of
listening to music in the period depicted in Almost Famous is drastically different today than it was
several years back. The public spaces in which people listened to music in the 1960s and 1970s has
gradually diminished and even eliminated to the point where we listen to music through our phones or

Informative Essay On Pam Grier
Pam Grier: The Baddest One Chick Hit Squad
Pamela Suzette Grier was born on May 26TH, 1949 in Winston Salem, North Carolina to Sylvia
Samuels, a nurse, and Clarence Ransom Grier, a mechanic and Technical Sergeant in the US Air
Force. She moved frequently throughout her childhood due to her father s military career, but the
family eventually settled in Denver, where she attended both secondary school and college. In order to
raise money for tuition for her sophomore year, Grier entered several beauty pageants around the state
and even earned second runner up in the 1967 Miss Colorado Pageant it was there that she was
discovered by an agent who urged her to take up acting and she quickly moved to Los Angeles with
her aunt and cousin, Rosey Grier, a pro football player and actor, in 1968 to pursue a career.
Pam worked several jobs upon her arrival in Los Angeles, but it was a receptionist job with American
International Pictures that led to her discovery by director Jack Hill, who cast her in his women in
prison films The Big Doll House (1971) and The Big Bird Cage (1972). (Shortly before that, she was
also given a role in Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, a film released in 1970 that was written by Roger
Ebert and directed by Russ Meyer, but her part was small and allowed for limited screen time. Her
breakout role was in Coffy, Jack Hill s Blaxplotation film about a nurse and vigilante, played by Grier,
who seeks revenge on the drug dealers who lured her sister into a life of debauchery. Her character
was lauded as baddest one chick hit squad that ever hit town! and despite the film s sexual and violent
elements, it was a box office hit. Grier was the first African American female to headline an action
film and she is credited as the woman who paved the way for current female actions stars like
Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron, and more specifically the new wave of black female action heroes
like Taraji P. Henson, who plays a kick ass hit woman who s dressed to kill in Proud Mary.
Throughout the 1970s, she played the lead in several other Blaxploitation films produced by AIP like
Foxy Brown (1974), Sheba Baby, and Friday Foster (which were both released in 1975.)
In the late 1970s, the

My Wicked Wicked Ways Poem
My Wicked Wicked Ways is a simple poem if you read it quickly, but after reading every stanza and
analyzing it you feel the complexity of it, every line of every stanza adds a different taste to the poem,
completes the painting, and with the last stanza the poet puts its magical touches to it. I will start by
identifying the subject of the poem, and then like every poem I will discuss the meter of the poem,
with the rhyme schemes and any figurative language if the poet used them.
The poem starts with This is my father (Cisneros 1) which shows the poets connection with her father,
her past, her childhood See? He is young (Cisneros 2), while reading this stanza, you start to imagine
the poet holding a small, old and non colored picture of her as a child, defining every detail of her
father s looks He looks like Errol Flynn (Cisneros 3), Errol Flynn was a handsome actor, he was
known as a womanizer, which is what she thinks her father was, in the picture her father is wearing a
hat, that leans over one of his eyes, a well suited suit, and some tow toned shoes. Those shoes her
mother doesn t like, my mother hates (Cisneros 11), the writer used the word hates, which shows that
there was an argument about the shoes but it wasn t a big argument to mention.
The second stanza, the poet moves to talking about her mother Here is my mother. (Cisneros 12), but
doesn t identify her looks, or her cloths, rather than describing her as she is not crying She is not
crying.

How Was Imperialism Affected By Great Britain Imperialize...
Imperialism is the act of country trying to control a different country. Imperializing is basically a type
of government trying enlarge its size either by forcing in through war, or by influencing through
politics (Vocabulary.com). Great Britain was involved in many cases of imperializing other countries.
They were one of the biggest countires to imperialize. To be exact, Great Britain imperialized our 13
american colonies. A country that Great Britain imperialized was Nigeria in 1914. Local leaders in
agreed to sign treaties of protection with Great Britain. However there were some rebellions that did
not like the idea of Great Britain imperializing. However Great Britain used forces to put down, and
defeat those rebellions ( Roger B. Beck). From Great Britain imperializing Nigeria, the greatest
resource they were able get was palm oil trade along the river of Nigeria known as the Niger River.
This was after Berlin Conference had given Britain a protectorate over the Niger River. A protectorate
is when a state is controlled and also protected by another country. ... Show more content on

Great Britain s interests in Imperializing india went up due to the trade post set up at Bombay made by
East India Company. The Industrial revolution had turned Britain into the World workshop, and India
was its major supplier of raw materials for that workshop (Roger B. Beck, pg. 357). Great Britain
decided to Imperialize it to gain access to be able to get those resources on their own. Britain had then
set up restrictions that prevent Indian economy operating on its own now. However many Indians
began to become upset because they thought they were trying to convert them to becoming christian,
and thought they were being racist to them. The Indians Rebelled, but Great Britain was too controlled

Corporal Punishment Controversy
In 2013, Adrian Peterson, a Minnesota Vikings running back, faced felony charges and indicted by a
jury with reckless injury of a child (Goessling). This incident sparked controversy on the topic of
where the line is drawn between discipline and abuse. Oxford dictionary defines corporal punishment
as: physical punishment, such as caning or flogging. On one hand, many parents argue that spanking
or other corporal punishments are not abusive because it teaches respect and consequences for bad
behavior. However, on the other hand, others maintain that spanking and other corporal punishments
are harmful because it does not teach respect but instead inspires fear in the child and does not
effectively teach them what they did wrong or what they did to deserve such punishment. Seeing both
sides of the argument, I argue that the line between abuse and discipline is crossed when the
punishment causes damage to the child, whether physical or psychological. I would go on to argue
that spanking and other corporal punishments are not ideal because it does not show the child what he
or she did wrong, can escalate into harsher punishment and borderline abuse, and has been shown to
not be effective and can actually cause more behavioral problems in children.
Parenting is one of the hardest jobs in the world. Children don t come home from the hospital with an
instruction manual and only so much information can be acquired from parenting books at the local
bookstore. Discipline can especially be a hard subject for new parents, considering that there is no real
right way to punish your children for bad behaviors. Spanking is a commonly used strategy to combat
childhood wrongdoing. Spanking has been used as a disciplinary tool in reportedly 90% of American
families (Wolraich et al.). Spanking and corporal punishment has a high prevalence in American
society. Although spanking is seen as acceptable by the majority, this does not mean that spanking is
good for the child. Dr. Elizabeth Gershoff, a developmental psychologist, asserts, There is little
research evidence that physical punishment improves in the long term. In contrast, there is substantial
research evidence that physical punishment puts children at risk for negative

Rise Of Japanese Imperialism
Japan, one of the great powers of the world, which just 200 years ago, was an undeveloped nation
moving along at a speed drastically less than that of the rest of the world. How was it then, that Japan
was able to industrialize and modernize so quickly in such few years, even with its centuries of
traditional protocol and isolation from the world? Even through the country s complete destruction
from World War 2, and having to start from basically ground zero in terms of its industries and social
advancement, Japan was able to quickly rise up and become on the world s largest technological and
industrial powerhouses.
During the 19th century, Japan began to revolutionize its old regimes and integrate many aspects of
Western civilization into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mid-Life Crisis Narrative
I watched another man having a mid life crisis, pull out of the Novak car dealership across the street in
a silver convertible. My uncle ran that dealership. I scanned my dad s car lot; the cars were much older
with red numbers written on the windshields, and they were Hondas rather than BMWs. Dad was
having an intense phone call in the dimly lit back office. From where I sat at the desk, I could hear
snippets of the conversation that filtered through the gap through the door.
How long... here? Dad said.
I had no homework, so I swiveled around on my chair, and watched my dad bite his nails as he talked.
No ... get the money... just... Dad caught my eye, and gave me a look that made me turn around again.
Then I heard the door click shut behind me.

Uncle James gave a sharp nod, and pulled an office chair over. Mum this looks amazing.
You boys make me feel like I m Gordon Ramsey or something, Nana giggled.
I grabbed a sandwich and started to eat.
Isn t this nice? We never have lunch together anymore. Dennis what s new with you? Nana asked.
I m working on a big deal, Dad said between bites.
I stopped chewing.
Is it going to cost me money? Uncle James asked.
No. I don t need your help.
Well don t send a bill to me later. I won t pay it this time, Uncle James said.
I m fine. This deal is foolproof, Dad said, wiping his fingers on his jeans.
Nothing in business is foolproof, Dennis, Uncle James said.
This is. And it s going to turn everything around for me. Just you wait.

Abortion Debate Analysis
The argument of legalizing abortion has been spread out over society like a wild fire on a dry summer
day, but there are five points that are constantly being hit, legal precedence, birth control issues,
human rights, religion, and when life begins. Based on both moral and empirical claims, this issue has
reached to the public on whether or not abortion should be legalized. As both advocate groups define
this issue on its constitutionality and moral views, it is represented by their constituents, political
figures view this issue as a party line, Pro life conservatives and Pro choice liberals. While the media

Wade, and in Mcorvey v. Hill the supreme court turned down Mcorvey s cast in support of what Roe
v. Wade stood for. Back to the topic of when life begins, this is where pro choice begins to sprout,
because even though pro choice does fight for the legalization of abortion, they still have a moral side
of when they believe aborting a fetus is morally right and wrong and the morally wrong thing to do is
abort a fetus that is able to live on its own. According to Dr. Shuman and WebMD a fetus can live on
its own after twenty two weeks, or five and a half months into pregnancy. While this gives the women
to decide on whether or not they want to abort the pregnancy, it also gives them more of a choice

The Noise Of Sound Waves Through Instruments And How The...
Introduction
Music takes up a large part of our lives, most people listen to it almost every day. It is one of the only
medians between People from completely different walks of life, connecting us all through major
symphonies or just beautifully simple chords. Though many people enjoy the emotion filled sound
that travel to their eardrums, most do not know exactly why. People also do not know why they dislike
some musical sounds. I am very curious as to why there are melodies considered good or bad. Just as
most people, I listen to music on the daily basis. I am also invested in learning how to play the electric
guitar which influences my interest in this topic greatly. I want to find out why exactly different
chords are considered either harmonic or discordant by looking into the consonance and dissonance in
music. In my research on this topic, I will focus mainly on the emission of sound waves through
instruments and how the notes come together. Sound travels as a transverse wave which means it takes
the same shape as sine waves, in mathematics. These waves are used to produce different volume,
frequencies, and timbre in instruments. In music, sound waves have different frequencies which
change the in pitch of notes, and different amplitudes, which change the volume of notes.
Since I will be focusing on the changing of frequencies in notes, I will represent these changes by
modeling different chords, and notes by using sine waves. This will allow me to demonstrate how

  • 2. Can Hybrid Cars Can Improve Fuel Efficiency And Save The... Can hybrid cars can improve fuel efficiency and save the environment? A debate has recently arisen; are hybrid automobiles that much more fuel efficient than the average car, and is the higher sticker price worth the investment? Questions have also been asked about the hope of reducing environmental pollution. Are government rebates and dealer incentives worth the additional investment of purchasing these higher priced cars? What is the adoption rate among consumers to these automobiles? Gas mileage can be defined as: how many miles a car or truck can travel on one gallon of gasoline (Marland English, 2015). As fossil fuels continue to be depleted, our civilization must look at cost efficient ways to accomplish daily tasks. Hybrid cars use a combination of the gasoline engine with electronic motors to achieve a number of objectives. This differs from the new totally electricity powered cars that run on charged batteries. According to www.fueleconomy.gov; a vehicle that gets 30 MPG will cost you $545 less to fuel each year than one that gets 20 MPG, assuming 15000 miles of driving annually and a fuel cost of $2.18 ( Save Money , 2015). Over time this can lead to huge savings in fuel costs to the average consumer. As oil prices continue to rise and fall, a more fuel efficient car could provide some comfort to the financially stressed customer. A person must take into consideration if the savings in fuel costs are worth the higher investment price of a hybrid. On average, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Brief Historical Development and Contributions of Chemistry for Modern Civilization Introduction: As defined by Oxford Dictionary, Chemistry is the scientific study of the structure of substances, how they react when combined or in contact with one another and how they behave under different conditions . In other words, Chemistry is the study of the materials and substances of the world in which we live. The materials, which make up the earth, sea and air, are called raw materials. These include many importance natural resources like ores, rocks, coal, and gas. According to me, Chemistry is the study of the composition and properties of matter. They thought that metals in the earth sought to become more and more perfect and thus gradually changed into gold. It seemed to them that they should be able to carry out the same process more rapidly in their own workshops and so artificially to transmute common metals into gold. Beginning about 100 AD this idea dominated the minds of the philosophers as well as the metalworkers, and a large number of treatises were written on the art of transmutation, which became known as alchemy. At almost the same time, and probably independently, a similar alchemy arose in China. Here, also, the aim was to make gold, although not because of the monetary value of the metal. The Chinese believed that gold was a medicine that could confer long life or even immortality on anyone who consumed it. As did the Egyptians, the Chinese gained practical chemical knowledge from incorrect theories. In the 7th and 8th centuries Arab conquerors spread Islamic culture over much of Asia Minor, North Africa, and Spain. The caliphs at Baghdâd became active patrons of science and learning. The Syriac translation of Greek texts were again translated, this time into Arabic, and along with the rest of Greek learning the ideas and practice of alchemy once again flourished. A great intellectual reawakening began in western Europe in the 11th century. This was stimulated in part by the cultural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Marvel s Influence On Morals Aaron Jeu Instructor Acevedo English 100 23 July 2015 Superheroes Influence on Morals Often times, one may observe that any young child s piece of clothing or backpack is plastered with the face of some known or unknown superhero portrayed in popular culture, on television and in the movies. These superheroes are found throughout American society. Because superheroes are growing more popular amongst mass marketing for motion pictures and their merchandise is constantly targeting children and young adults, these iconic figures have been assimilated into American culture. As a child matures, it is necessary for an adult, an educator, or a parent to come into play to properly foster and edify the child s moral understanding. These depictions of superheroes fighting crime in itself are not detrimental to society on its own. It is the interpretation of what goes on through the form of entertainment and its long term effects that it has on an individual if misconceived. Others may beg to differ and advocate that such examples of violent or aggressive behaviors through video games (Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Destiny, etc.) are destructive and immoral influences on individuals. While it is case by case for every individual, Gerard Jones, writer for Marvel Comics and many other comic book publishers, asserts that exposure to violent media does have its positive impacts on an individual s morals and well being. In his essay, Violent Media Is Good for Kids, Jones recounts his experience as a child being walled between the crudest elements of American pop culture because his parents taught him that rage was something to be overcome and cooperation and cooperation ... • 5. The Law, Justice, And Stability Society would be in turmoil if we didn t have laws. We would live in a barbaric world without rights, justice, and stability. People would have many diverse viewpoints and would never be able to sustain relationships with one another. So the question is: what is the purpose of the law, what is it s main objective and why is it uniquely capable of achieving unknown answers? The most deceptive motive is because we do in fact have protection, justice, stability and relationships in our society. The reason we have those things is the implementation of the law. Our society as a majority wants those values implemented in their daily lives. Our society is so large will never have one unified view on various subjects, so our system has been made that we are persuaded into the viewpoints of a majority. Additionally, the main objective of the law is to be a binding set of rules that persuade society into a majority view, in order to maintain a secure community. Our system of regulations in the United States serves the purpose of embodying the majoritarian perspective of society. Law is implemented because there needs to be a way to govern these various perspectives. Society needs guidelines to be able to survive, be organized, and not be chaotic. Moreover, according to the Constitution, we the people are the sovereign people of this system. That means people in society are actively living, and participating with the laws everyday. There are many factors to show this, such as Gatsby s value and its similarity to the riddle of qualia , as well as what Nick learns and understands about his own, and others value qualia. Gatsby s value is a topic to be considered when attempting to discuss this thesis. Gatsby appears to value the past, more specifically the positive, romantic experiences of his past. Is it the thrill of the game? Or is it the poker chips we play with? To be honest it s a bit of both but probably the biggest factor that makes poker so much fun is unpredictability. Of course if you re a math whiz you can increase your chances of winning by working out the probability of your hand winning a round, but not all people are like Ben Campbell, the mastermind in the movie 21 who cheated the system with his fast math calculations to win big while gambling. So what makes you sure that your hand is going to win as compared to your opponents? Well firstly if you have a high combination of cards then you win, that s how the game goes. But sometimes you don t know whether your opponent has a higher combination of cards or is he just bluffing. Well nobody can tell what your opponent has. You can only make an estimate of what that person might possibly have. In order to do that you have to focus extremely carefully at every move your opponent makes: from his eye movements to his betting. Every move should be monitored. There are many ways poker players do that. The first thing they do when the first three cards are turned is to increase the bet, regardless of the card combination one has. • 10. Napoleon s Letters From An Italian Nobleman s Family Acquiring insight into the personalities and feelings of any historical figure is a tricky thing. Often we are left with secondary, and sometimes very biased, accounts of how individuals conducted themselves in various situations in their lives. But luckily, we are sometimes left with vivid sources penned by figures themselves, and that is what we have with Napoleon s letters. Through them we can hope to gain a better and more well rounded look into the life one of the most loved, and reviled, men in recent history. To begin, let us take a look at Napoleon s letters to his immediate family. Letter 71 is addressed to his sister Pauline, who in 1803 had married into an Italian nobleman s family. In this letter, Napoleon expresses his love for his sister, and wishes her nothing but happiness, showing a tender and brotherly side not often associated with the conquering emperor. But this letter is also no simple social call, but a request that his sister make herself known and appreciated as a socialite in the city of Rome, seat of the Papal States. This is a shrewd and clever move on his part, displaying an understanding of the delicacies of statesmanship and foreign opinion. In letter 109, a brief note penned in 1806 to his sister Elisa, Napoleon urges her to only allow dresses of silk and batiste to be worn at the court of her husband in Italy. He insists that preference may be given to the products of French industry , and is fully confident that such fashion will become ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the history of the United States of America, the Constitution has always been put to the test. The founders of this country created the first amendment to allow colonists to speak out against the British. In the 17th century, the press was accurate and informative with little competition among journalists. But today in the 21st century the circumstances are different and the stakes are higher. But, the media can also cloud the public?s judgments, and cause confusion and disillusion as well. From Churchill to Hitler to the former Soviet Union, it is quite clear that radio, television and newspapers have the power to change and make history. A clear example of the power of the media was when Orson Welles? made his famous radio broadcast about ?witnessing? the landing of a spaceship full of Martians. ?America saw that the power of the media could appeal to the public easily and cause mass hysteria? If you follow mainstream media with great care and skepticism and approach it with the right understanding of how propaganda works, then you can learn a lot. The media shapes and selects the events and offer their biased opinions to the mass audiences.? ?The media modifies information to fill what they believe the public?s interest is? (Szykowny 9). • 12. Effect Of Substrate Concentration On Enzyme Activity The Effect of Environmental Conditions on Enzyme Activity Ikram Hassan SBI3UW 02 November 13, 2017. Research Question: What is the effect of substrate concentration (as measured in % concentration) on the rate of enzyme activity (as calculated by the dividing the measured distance in cm, +/ 0.1 cm, travelled by a substance in a manometer by the time in seconds, +/ 0.5 seconds)? Background: A substrate is a molecule which is acted upon by an enzyme. For a chemical reaction to occur through enzyme, substrate molecules bind to the active site of an enzyme, which contains residues that catalyse the reaction of the substrate. Hypothesis: If the concentration of the substrate is increased, then the rate of enzyme activity will decrease. This is because as the concentration of the substrate increases, there is an increasing amount of occupied active sites at any given moment. This will cause a decrease in the rate of enzyme activity as substrate active site collisions are increasingly slowed down thus bringing down the rate of enzyme activity. Variables: Independent: Substrate Concentration: Throughout the experiment, the concentration of the substrate used will be increased in order to determine the effect of an increase of substrate concentration on enzyme activity. The substrate throughout the experiment will be a hydrogen peroxide solution and an original 30% concentration will be diluted with water into 10% and 5% concentrations in order to observe the effect of ... Film History The History of film has been influenced by the discovery and testing of paradoxes intrinsic in the medium itself. machines are used record images of anything; it combines still photographs to give the appearance of continuous motion; it seems to present life itself, but it also offers unthinkable unrealities approached only in dreams. The motion picture was unfolded in the 1890s from the union of still photography, which records actual reality, with the persistence of vision toy, which made drawn frames appear to move. Four major film traditions have advanced since then: fictional narrative film, which reveals stories about people with whom an audience can recognize because their world looks familiar; nonfictional documentary film, which centers on the real world either to inform ... These people often leave war torn countries where violence and tyranny strips the very freedoms and opportunities that are the inalienable backbone of the United States. It is no surprise, then, that immigrants from every stretch of the planet have settled in America, freely practicing their beliefs and often playing a critical role in the entrepreneurial development of our capitalist foundation. One such group is the Chaldeans. • 19. A Discussion Of Madness In Society During The Middle Ages The Oxford dictionary defines madness as The state of having a serious mental illness . Madness has been construed in several different ways throughout centuries and literature. Before and during the Middle Ages madness was mostly seen as a suggestion of sorcery/witchcraft or demonic possession, or an imbalance of the humors blood, black bile, yellow bile and phlegm, or as an effect of the moon (since it was believed that madness was caused as a result of sleeping in a place where the moon beams struck a person s head and thereby the word lunacy was derived from the Latin word luna for moon). However, some considered the mentally ill to be divinely gifted, that is, being gifted with the power of speech/words (poets, writers, etc) and thereby the treatment and attitudes towards the mentally ill varied from exorcism, confinement, trephination (used for people who were thought to be possessed by demons and involved drilling a hole in the person s head to drive evil spirits out of the body), whipping, etc. The sixteenth saw the establishment of asylums and hospitals which accommodated and confined the mentally ill, destitute and vagabonds, the jobless and the outlaws. It was during this once in a lifetime opportunity that though I always believed myself to have a strong love for my country, for the first time I came to understand not only what it means to be American but my responsibility to America. From afar a sea of white crosses stood before me, and it took my breath away how many there were. As I walked past each grave no longer was it a an objective experience but personal. Even though I very much enjoyed the amazing descriptions that he used in telling of the lands from where his people came, I found it hard to grasp the purpose behind the side stories that were being told. I had latched onto the story of him returning home to his grandmother s grave since that was the first aspect presented to me as the reader. Once I had read the text over and studied it a little more deeply, I realized that the purpose of the story was not to tell of Momaday s journey back to rainy mountain, but to tell the story of the Kiowa s journey to Rainy Mountain. I thought it was a little distracting the first time I read because I was distracted by all of the information that Momaday was telling about the Kiowa people and their history. I kept expecting to hear of his trip back to Rainy Mountain and what he was experiencing during this time. As I said before, it was not until I went back and reread the essay did I catch on about the true point to the story. Causes Of The French And Indian War Essay An Examination of the French and Indian Wars I.Causes The initial causes of the French and Indian War are based on the increasing colonization of French and English settlements throughout the Ohio River Valley area. In the 1750s, British colonists were slowly expanding territorial settlements into the Ohio River Valley from Virginia. In this manner, the English were aggressively establishing more land claims and rights for the British government. More so, the English were cooperating with the local Native American tribes in terms of sharing land rights or respecting the traditions of the indigenous peoples, which often involved military supports and resources from the Iroquois tribe. In contrast to this colonial development, the French were also claiming land rights for settlements in the Ohio River Valley by moving east and southwards from the Great Lakes and French colonial territories in New France. The French also cooperated with local indigenous peoples, such as the Huron, to fight the British during this historical period. The Huron people had a long tradition of trade, and other forms of economic and military cooperation to support this alliance: The link that joined most of Canada s Indian nations to the French was not a common faith, but a common interest in the fur trade. On the even of the French and Indian War, The French government maintained some forty four fortified Indian trading posts, some protected by a small garrison (Cave 46). After entering Central High the happiness that had been inside of them before was replaced by an anxiety and mental strain that affected them everywhere they went. The mental abuse hurt them more and caused more damage to them than a simple slap ever could have. Their emotions were drained and they slowly began to give up hope. • 39. Essay On Ancient Mesopotamian Religion What similarities can you find between the religions of Ancient Mesopotamian today? Much like tens of thousands of years ago, religion is still a central component of our lives today. Some of the most popular religions today are Christianity and Judaism, both based on the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible and both based in the Near East. Because of cultural assimilation within the region, it would only be logical for the religions of today to share some similarities of those established in Ancient Mesopotamia. One of the most famous lines of the Bible takes place in Genesis 1:1, which states In the beginning God created the heavens and earth. This line is much like a similar creation myth from the Sumerians where Marduk creates the heavens and earth by using the body of the slain goddess Tiamut who personified watery chaos, proceeded to create the universe by dividing Tiamat in two, one part becoming the heavens and the other the earth with her breasts as mountains. Instead of having one longer summer break, these schools take several shorter breaks throughout the year (Scholastic 15). Not only can year round schooling improve the academic performance of students, but it can also economically benefit all aspects of society. (Shortly before that, she was also given a role in Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, a film released in 1970 that was written by Roger Ebert and directed by Russ Meyer, but her part was small and allowed for limited screen time. Her breakout role was in Coffy, Jack Hill s Blaxplotation film about a nurse and vigilante, played by Grier, who seeks revenge on the drug dealers who lured her sister into a life of debauchery. • 43. My Wicked Wicked Ways Poem My Wicked Wicked Ways is a simple poem if you read it quickly, but after reading every stanza and analyzing it you feel the complexity of it, every line of every stanza adds a different taste to the poem, completes the painting, and with the last stanza the poet puts its magical touches to it. I will start by identifying the subject of the poem, and then like every poem I will discuss the meter of the poem, with the rhyme schemes and any figurative language if the poet used them. The poem starts with This is my father (Cisneros 1) which shows the poets connection with her father, her past, her childhood See? He is young (Cisneros 2), while reading this stanza, you start to imagine the poet holding a small, old and non colored picture of her as a child, defining every detail of her father s looks He looks like Errol Flynn (Cisneros 3), Errol Flynn was a handsome actor, he was known as a womanizer, which is what she thinks her father was, in the picture her father is wearing a hat, that leans over one of his eyes, a well suited suit, and some tow toned shoes. Those shoes her mother doesn t like, my mother hates (Cisneros 11), the writer used the word hates, which shows that there was an argument about the shoes but it wasn t a big argument to mention. Imperializing is basically a type of government trying enlarge its size either by forcing in through war, or by influencing through politics (Vocabulary.com). Great Britain was involved in many cases of imperializing other countries. They were one of the biggest countires to imperialize. To be exact, Great Britain imperialized our 13 american colonies. • 45. Corporal Punishment Controversy In 2013, Adrian Peterson, a Minnesota Vikings running back, faced felony charges and indicted by a jury with reckless injury of a child (Goessling). This incident sparked controversy on the topic of where the line is drawn between discipline and abuse. Oxford dictionary defines corporal punishment as: physical punishment, such as caning or flogging. On one hand, many parents argue that spanking or other corporal punishments are not abusive because it teaches respect and consequences for bad behavior. However, on the other hand, others maintain that spanking and other corporal punishments are harmful because it does not teach respect but instead inspires fear in the child and does not effectively teach them what they did wrong or what they did to deserve such punishment. Seeing both sides of the argument, I argue that the line between abuse and discipline is crossed when the punishment causes damage to the child, whether physical or psychological. I would go on to argue that spanking and other corporal punishments are not ideal because it does not show the child what he or she did wrong, can escalate into harsher punishment and borderline abuse, and has been shown to not be effective and can actually cause more behavioral problems in children. Parenting is one of the hardest jobs in the world. Children don t come home from the hospital with an instruction manual and only so much information can be acquired from parenting books at the local bookstore. Discipline can especially be a hard subject for new parents, considering that there is no real right way to punish your children for bad behaviors. Spanking is a commonly used strategy to combat childhood wrongdoing. Spanking has been used as a disciplinary tool in reportedly 90% of American families (Wolraich et al.). Spanking and corporal punishment has a high prevalence in American society. Although spanking is seen as acceptable by the majority, this does not mean that spanking is good for the child. Dr. Elizabeth Gershoff, a developmental psychologist, asserts, There is little research evidence that physical punishment improves in the long term. In contrast, there is substantial research evidence that physical punishment puts children at risk for negative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is one of the only medians between People from completely different walks of life, connecting us all through major symphonies or just beautifully simple chords. Though many people enjoy the emotion filled sound that travel to their eardrums, most do not know exactly why. People also do not know why they dislike some musical sounds. I am very curious as to why there are melodies considered good or bad. Just as most people, I listen to music on the daily basis. I am also invested in learning how to play the electric guitar which influences my interest in this topic greatly. I want to find out why exactly different chords are considered either harmonic or discordant by looking into the consonance and dissonance in music. In my research on this topic, I will focus mainly on the emission of sound waves through instruments and how the notes come together. Sound travels as a transverse wave which means it takes the same shape as sine waves, in mathematics. These waves are used to produce different volume, frequencies, and timbre in instruments. In music, sound waves have different frequencies which change the in pitch of notes, and different amplitudes, which change the volume of notes. Since I will be focusing on the changing of frequencies in notes, I will represent these changes by modeling different chords, and notes by using sine waves. This will allow me to demonstrate how ...
