Thirteen Reasons Why Analysis
Preserving Intellectual Freedom The American Library Association states that the most challenged and
restricted reading material have been children books. However, challenges are not merely an
expression of a point of view; on the contrary, it is an attempt to remove materials from public use,
thus restricting the access to others. Even if the motivation to ban or challenge a book is well intended,
the outcome is unfair for everyone else. Censorship denies our freedom as individuals to choose and
think for ourselves. For children, decisions about what books to read should only be made by the
people who know them best their parents! (Letter to the Editor). I strongly disagree when people want
books banned based on their own opinion of the book. The novel in question, Thirteen Reasons Why
by Jay Asher, is no exception to frequent challenges. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a privilege that we all have in the United States and it should not be taken lightly. Parents should
understand that they have a right to decide what their child reads, but they should not take away that
same right from other parents. The attempt to expose students to challenging topics and issues is not
intended to force students into a certain mode of thought. Books serve as opportunities for students to
think, theorize, question, and explore those topics in a controlled environment directed by teachers,
parents, and experts and even though the book contains some sensitive material the lessons learned are
far superior to the controversial material presented in Thirteen Reasons Why. Great lessons are not just
learned in real life; we can learn them in books as well. Give the book an honest try and do not be
biased to sensitive material, grasp the main message of the book then make the final decision, but
make sure it is for your child, not the entire school

How Is Grendel s Mother Portrayed In Beowulf
13. The Danes and monsters have in a sense traded deaths, but it is not over yet. They have traded
deaths in the way that Grendel killed many of Hrothgar s warrior as they slept in the hall and then
Beowulf killed Grendel by slaying off his arm. Grendel s mother is now present and enters Herot, just
as her son did, and took a single victim . Grendel s mother is said to have taken a special members of
the Danish men in revenge for them killing her son. It states, She d taken Hrothgar s closest friend...
She d killed a glorious soldier, cut a noble life short. (Lines 18 20). Beowulf got revenge, now Grendel
s mother has, so next Beowulf is back to kill Grendel s mother.

As proof of his victory, Beowulf brings back the sword that he killed Grendel s mother with, and
Grendel s head. The poem states, The monsters hall was full of rich treasures, but all that Beowulf
took was Grendel s head and the hilt of the giants jeweled sword... (Lines 267 269). This quotes shows
that out of all the valuables he could have taken back to show the Danes, he took two that displayed
his victory the best and that the warriors would all be proud of. Beowulf swam up to land full of pride
with all his armor and these two objects in hand. The first thing he did upon his journey back was go
to salute Hrothgar and show him the objects he has brought back.
17. The sword that Beowulf presents to Hrothgar s is inscripted with letters and stories. Hrothgar s
notices that the sword has the original owner s name in runic letter. It also had stories of battles
between good and evil. The text says, and saw written there the story of ancient wars between good
and evil, the opening of the waters, the flood sweeping giants away, how they suffered and died...
(Lines 342 343). Earlier in the story we learn the giants built the sword and now Hrothgar unveils the
stories carved into the

Waukesh My Impression Analysis
When I saw this question I immediately knew where I would find this type of information. I was
attending UW Waukesha, I live in Milwaukee so it was a long drive. I would often listen to the radio
while I was driving, there are two radio stations that play Spanish music one has been around for a
while now and the other one just started about 2 years ago. These radio stations have programs that are
local meaning the that the DJ/broadcaster is from Milwaukee, but they also have programs that are
very popular in other states which most of the time are from California. I was listening to the radio
personalities, which includes two women one from El Salvador and one from Mexico and five men

Asian Body Language
Body Language: A Look at Asian Cultures
Body language is indeed a powerful and useful form of communication with many forms and
interpretations. How one uses body language, and how another interprets it, is one of the most
intriguing parts of any society. The communication patterns of Asian languages serve to reinforce
traditional cultural values and beliefs. Consistent with the primary value of preserving harmony and
face in human relationships, Asian languages utilize communication patterns that promote pleasant
social interaction. These include indirect communication styles; reluctance to criticize or contradict
blatantly; and ability to read others genuine attitudes, opinions, or feelings through nonverbal cues. A

Don t worry about a bit of pushing and shoving in stores or when groups board public buses or trains.
Apologies are neither offered nor expected. Public displays of affection and public contact between
members of the opposite sex are considered inappropriate, whereas hand holding between members of
the same sex is deemed a sign of friendship.
On the public streets of China, spitting and blowing the nose without the benefit of a handkerchief is
fairly common. It used to be regarded as ridding the body of a waste an act of personal hygiene.
However, today it is a sign of low class or uneducated. Throughout Japan and Korea, blowing your
nose in public is considered rude, especially at a meal. The handkerchief is used primarily for wiping
the mouth or drying the hands when leaving the washroom. Paper tissues are used for blowing the
nose and then discarded.
Edward T. Hall, an anthropologist and cross cultural researcher, believes that the United States, like
most other western countries, is a relatively low context culture. In low context cultures, the meaning
of the message is usually clearly encoded in the words themselves. Asian cultures are considered high
context cultures, where the meaning of the message should not be only derived from the words
themselves, but particularly from the context of the situation, and non verbal clues. In Beyond Culture,
Hall describes that Asian students with high context cultures expect more of others than do the

Egyptian Woodworking
Egyptian woodworking has been around practically since the first Pharaoh(1). Some tools those
Egyptians used were the lathe, the adze, the cane bender, the saw and the axe. They are pretty simple
tools and some of them are even still used today. One of the tools not used today would be the adze
and it was used for carving and planing but now we have different tools that work better than that(2).
Some of the things the Egyptians would build with their use of woodwork would be when they built
their huts and also when they build their mud buildings because they would make a frame of the
building out of wood.
They also were very big on boat building, they would build boats to go down the Nile river. Boat
building is a very difficult process, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That improvement dramatically helped woodwork today, it sped up build time on houses from
possibly years down to months. It also shrank the amount of people to build a house because they
wouldn t need as much people to lift heavy objects because of the equipment we have today. We have
other things beside woodworking tools to help with the process like cranes because they lift the large
pieces of prebuilt parts of the frame, we also have crowbars that we use to move the wood either into
position or rip it out because of something like the nail being all messed up. Woodworking today is
very much as important as everything else but metalwork still has a bigger influence today especially
for welders because of their building of skyscrapers in major cities.(6)
One of the greatest advancement to wood working today would have to be how easy it is to buy the
wood your wanting to work on. Today there is a greater ability to use a bigger variety of wood locally
bought because of lumber distributors around the world. They make it easier to buy and they check the
quality of the wood before even buying most times. If it wasn t for lumber distributors, the
woodworkers today would possibly have to get their own wood straight out of the

Emile Durkheim’S Book Elementary Forms Of Religious Life
Emile Durkheim s book Elementary Forms of Religious Life serves as a religious guide from the
perspective of primitive societies by focusing on understanding the key principles of religion by
studying these groups and drawing similarities to major ideologies based off of their key elements and
rituals. His goal from this research was to figure out the origins of religion itself. His study focused on
the aborigines, the indigenous people of Australia. He wrote the study in a way so a non believer could
understand religion and yet find none in error, allowing them to believe that each religion was a mere
branch on a much larger tree. This theory holds elements of the idea of coexistence, theorizing no
society has the wrong idea. All ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In layman s terms, he perceives religion as firstly a society questioning how they arrived at said point
and from where they started, allowing the praise to go to a higher power. Edward Burnett Tylor states,
the ordinary condition of the savage is the result of degeneration from a far higher state saying that our
most primitive forms are reflections of the gods themselves. The second says religion is a tool used for
formulating societies throughout the ages and our world today, our geographic distribution, has been
accounted for based off of the religious identities of our past societies.
Opposers of Durkheim s ideas hold religions to be of unequal standing, saying all religions do not all
have the same measure of truth. To them, Durkheim argues that to understand his approach one must
reach beneath the symbolism, grasp the reality it represents and understand its true meaning. In a
sense, he is saying that by understanding one religion, you have the capacity to understand another.
To achieve the author s goal, he utilizes Aristotle s categories of understanding time, space, number,
cause, substance, and personality all corresponding to universal properties. This became a popular
system for classification as he believed religion itself served as a universal property. The article
utilized the concept of time as a key to understanding religion. A summation of the example would be
that time does not define itself, we define it. We define what

Essay On Apollo 13
Apollo 13 was to be the third mission sent from the Apollo Project to land on the Moon. An explosion
in one of the oxygen tanks caused the spacecraft to become crippled during the flight and the crew
were forced to orbit the Moon and return to the Earth without landing. The Apollo 13 mission was
launched on Saturday afternoon, April 11, 1970 from launch complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center.
The space prime crew consisted of trained experts Commander James A. Lovell Jr., Command module
pilot Ken Mattingly and Lunar module pilot Fred W. Haise Jr. There was also three backup crew
members named John W. Young, John L. Swigert Jr. and Charles M. Duke. This crew was ready to

However, at 55hrs, 54mins and 53secs when the crew was 200,000 miles from Earth and closing in on
the moon, mission controller Sy Liebergot saw a low pressure warning signal on a hydrogen tank in
Odyssey. The signal could have shown a problem, or could have indicated the hydrogen just needed to
be resettled by heating and fanning the gas inside the tank. Swigert flipped the switch for the routine
procedure. However when flipping the switch one of the oxygen tanks in the service module exploded.
The explosion caused one of the spacecraft panels to rip off and damaged the fuel tanks killing the
crew s oxygen supply and the spacecraft then began to lose power. The crew notified Mission Control,
with Swigert s famous phrase, Houston, we ve had a problem... . Luckily the Apollo spacecraft was
made up of two independent spacecrafts joined by a tunnel the main spacecraft named Odyssey and
the lunar model named Aquarius. Luckily for Apollo 13, the explosion only damaged Odyssey so they
had Aquarius as backup, which wasn t supposed to be turned on until the crew was close to landing on
the moon. It didn t have a heat shield to survive the trip back to Earth, but it could keep the crew alive
long enough to get there. Then, the astronauts could switch to Odyssey for the rest of the trip home.

Analysis Of Like Water For Chocolate By Laura Esquivel
The Journey to Self Actualization No human being is completely free. Individuals values, ideas and
identities are influenced, and to a certain degree, shaped by the cultures and societies they live in.
However, by realizing identity, an individual can find a sense of independence, which subsequently
leads towards self actualization. In the novel Like Water for Chocolate , by Laura Esquivel, the
protagonist, Tita, faces her journey from a young, submissive daughter to a strong, independent
woman who is eventually able to achieve self actualization, which is reflected in her non traditional
sense of identity and independence, and is something that not only ties in with Maslow s hierarchy of
needs, but I can relate myself to as well. Self actualization refers to the desire to achieve one s greatest
potential or as Maslow writes what a man can be, he must be (Maslow). Abraham Maslow, a
researcher and a pioneer in the field of psychology, strongly believed that people can control their own
behavior and have the abilities to reach their full potential. Maslow is perhaps best known for his
Hierarchy of Needs that culminates in self actualization. This hierarchy begins with so called basic
needs psychological, safety, social, and esteem and concludes with the growth need . Among other
characteristics, Maslow describes self actualized people as highly creative, independent, genuine
individuals who are resistant to enculturation and accept themselves for who

Diabetes Mellitus ( Dm ) Comprises A Group Of Metabolic...
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) comprises a group of metabolic disorders that share the common phenotype
of hyperglycemia. Diabetes is a very debilitating disease, affecting approximately 8.3% of the adult
population or 382 million across the world. The area most afflicted by diabetes is the Western Pacific,
which includes China affecting about 138 million. In the United States it is approximated that 29.1
million (9.3% of the population) have diabetes. If the trend continues to rise as it does, it is estimated
that 592 million people worldwide will have diabetes by 2035.
Not only does diabetes wreak havoc on a person s state of health, it also has serious impacts on our
economy, especially in developing countries. It is estimated that the costs to treat and prevent diabetes
were about $548 billion in 2011. In the USA, $245 billion was spent towards diabetes in 2012 and
with the consistent rise in diagnosis, that number may be $500 billion by 2025. Diabetes can be
categorized into a few categories, the well known sectors being type 1 and type 2. Type 1 DM is
characterized by complete insulin deficiency as opposed to type 2 DM (90% 95% of new cases of
diabetes) which is characterized by variable degrees of insulin resistance, impaired insulin secretion,
and excessive hepatic glucose production. There also exist other, more rare classifications of DM,
which include: DM caused by genetic defects (ie. maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY)),
diseases of the pancreas (chronic

The Thin Line Between Love And Hate Essay
The Thin Line Between Love and Hate Only the dead have seen the end of war. Plato. Plato was a
philosopher in Classical Greece and the founder of the Academy in Athens, the first institution of
higher learning in the Western world. War is nothing new, throughout history we have experienced
over hundreds of wars with more in the future. For every war requires soldiers to fight for what they
believe in. In most cases the soldiers are on a mission to fight the enemy for their country. Fighting is
common between individuals because conflict is inevitable. It can try to be avoided, but as a nation,
we can never eliminate it.The way to manage conflict and reduce the damage is less hate and more
love. The overall goal of the soldiers is to fight for the interest of the country which is not peace but
power. The power is sent to bring peace, once everyone is continent peace will appear. Conflict exists
because there is always someone to fight, whether that be in gang or drug wars, or more importantly
with politics and war between nations. There will always be a fight to win what someone wants, which
can flare war. Furthermore, war is a state of conflict between different groups that potentially end with
death. The action of fighting is used for many untold reasons, none of which are worth fighting for.
However, if people could learn how to use their words more effectively, less fighting would take
place. War is like a loop it never stops, it continues to go round and round

King Richard Transformation Essay
The Transformation of Richard In William Shakespeare s play, Richard II, England is ruled by the
profligate king, King Richard. He has spent all his father s money and has fallen out of favor with his
subjects. Henry Bolingbroke overthrows Richard and takes his crown. As this occurs Richard
undergoes a change. Before his usurpation Richard would not listen to anyone, was selfish, and did
not care about the well being of anyone else. When Richard realizes that he has lost everything and is
now at the mercy of Bolingbroke, he reflects on his life and becomes a more aware and caring person.
The root of Richard s flaws is his overconfidence in his judgement and decisions. As King Richard has
used up the royal treasury and has borrowed money ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Richard believes that he can have anything he wants simply because he is king. This is seen in his
reaction upon learning that John of Gaunt is ill: Now put it, God, in the physician s mind/ To help him
to his grave immediately! / The lining of his coffers shall make coats/ To deck our soldiers for these
Irish wars (1.4.60 63). Richard s reaction is greedy and displays a lack of love for his uncle. Not only
does Richard encourage death to hasten to his uncle, who has cared for him since he was ten, he also
illegally seizes Gaunt s lands. Richard knows that under the Magna Charta this is illegal, but Richard
believes himself above the law (Phillips 161). He does not have any regard for the law because he is
King. After it becomes apparent that Richard has lost everything, he becomes selfless. When speaking

Ethical Issues In Forensic Psychology
What are the potential ethical issues raised in this scenario? Be sure to support your response with the
appropriate ethical guidelines from the APA s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct
and Specialty Guidelines for Forensic Psychology. What action would you take and why? Be sure to
describe your process of ethical decision making.
Given the scenario, there are different ethical issues which might arise. For example, given that the
mental health professional has been retired for ten years, it begs the question of if she is still licensed
to practice. There would be no problem if the mental health professional were licensed, but it would
be unethical and unlawful for the professional to carry out any specialized psychosomatic work. ...

Becoming A Better Writer
Before, when an essay is assigned, I usually begin by free writing. Free writing is a technique in which
a person writes continuously without worrying about spelling, grammar, or topic. Once I have
brainstormed, I put it all together and organize them in a clean way. After I have finished my rough
draft, I reread it multiple times, adding, changing, and deleting anything I believe can be improved.
Once I think I have done the best I can, I write my final.
Recently, my teacher has given me advice and helpful points on becoming a better writer. Writing is
not a task that can get better over night; writing is an art. We learn by mimicking the professionals,
and making it into our own interpretation. I have learned that when writing an essay, you

Peace Like A River Sparknotes
Peace Like A River Essay
The book Peace Like A river is a best seller written by Leif Enger in the 2001. This novel has many
connections to the hymn It is Well With My Soul , written by Horatio Spafford the 1800s. Spafford
was a lawyer and presbyterian church elder who wrote the hymn following the tragic death of his four
daughters. Spafford witnessed the loss of his family, his business and his hope during his lifetime yet
he still found the strength to pursue through the hard times. Horatio Spafford was an American
Presbyterian living in the during the 1800s. Spafford saw tragedy starting with his first born son. Later

Horatio did after the loss of his son and daughters. Whilst having negative experiences in both their

The Life of Louis Armstrong Essays
The Life of Louis Armstrong
He was known as the greatest of all jazz musicians. He defined what it really was to play genuine jazz
music and taught the world to swing. He included joy, spontaneity, and amazing technical abilities.
Louis Armstrong was a genius when it came to his inventive musical ability. In this paper, I will tell
you about who Armstrong was, his early childhood, accomplishments, and his living legacy. Louis
Armstrong was born on August 4, 1901 in New Orleans, Louisiana which is famously known as the
birth place of jazz. Armstrong was born into a very poor family in a rough area in New Orleans. His
father was a factory worker who abandoned the family soon after Armstrong was born. Consequently,

Louis Blues , Clarence Williams, and the Red Onions Jazz Babies. By this time, Armstrong had gained
enough individual attention to make his recording debut as a leader in 1925 when he returned to
Chicago. He joined his wife s band at the Dreamland Café, and also played in Erskine Tate s Vendome
Orchestra and then with Carrol Dickenson s Orchestra at the Sunset Café. That same year Armstrong
recorded his first Hot Five records, which was the first time he made records under his own name.
Any of the records that were made by Louis Armstrong s Hot Five and Hot Seven were considered to
be Jazz classics. Their band continued recording until 1928, but never played live. This music set a
standard and the agenda for jazz in the many years to follow. Armstrong s trumpet introduction to
West End Blues is very famous. It has yet to be surpassed and remains as one of the greatest recorded
moments of jazz. While Louis was working at the Sunset Café, he met Joe Glaser, who became his
manager. Glaser was his manager until he died. Armstrong led his own band; they were called Louis
Armstrong and his Stompers. Louis had become a big star by 1929. He occasionally appeared with the
Luis Russell Orchestra, with Dave Peyton, and Fletcher Henderson, and also toured with the show Hot
Chocolates. In Chicago in 1931 Armstrong assembled his own band for touring purposes. When he

Student In College Wired For Time Summary
(5) Student in College Pressed for Time A person can have the best memory however, it all comes
down to how someone studies. A common method of studying among students is cramming. We make
the mistake of devoting a big portion of our time to learning a material and over learn.
To avoid overlearning, students should take breaks after reviewing content. Some educators believe
that method of learning is an effective way to prolong long term retention and is common in schools.
For example, assignments for mathematics courses include similar problems, leading students to

Could some educators be correct in saying that there are benefits to overlearning? In experiments

Vertigo As The Archetypal Mystery
Vertigo as the Archetypal Mystery Christopher O Neil Introduction to Film Prof. Michael O Donnell
March 16th, 2015 Alfred Hitchcock s Vertigo is a classic movie of the mystery genre. The film takes
what appears to be a relatively conventional mystery plot and enacts a process whereby it proceeds to
continually fold it within itself in order to develop a film that appears to change its nature several
times, but that nonetheless continues to perpetuate a sense of mystery. Indeed, in many ways the
experience of watching Vertigo is the experience of seeing something essential about the world
unravelling; something that both applies and does not apply to the events of the film itself. This paper
will consider Vertigo as a mystery film, but will also show how the film transcends this genre, or
distils it to such an extent that even when the mystery at its centre has been resolved, it nonetheless
remains almost as unfathomable at is was at start of the film. In essence, the film not only presents the
reconciliation of a mystery within its plot but essentially dramatizes the ineffably mysterious nature of
reality itself. This paper will demonstrate this by paying attention to key scholarship around Hitchcock
and psychoanalysis. Vertigo was made in 1958, at the height of Alfred s Hitchcock s fame as director
and can be considered to be a seminal example of his film making. It was influential in terms of its use
of complex plotting and also its

Because most of the Poles are Catholics (95%)the traditional forms of Polish life have grown out of

people, their all moral and ethic question are answered by religion, in the circle of Decalogue. In
America people generally are more self creative and more free, to make their own decisions. I think
the reason is, because here, in United
States is a distinct and clear border between government and church, unlike in Poland, where church
has a significant influence on the government. Life in the United States is not a piece of cake, but
living conditions here far exceed those in Poland. In some areas of the US life is tough for some
people. But unlike in Poland success is rewarded to all those who strive to work hard and get far in the

Effects Of Imperialism On The Indian Economy
Effects of Imperialism to the Indian Economy In 2015 India was ranked among the highest countries
globally in consumer confidence, this comes after the International Monetary Fund estimated an
economic growth of up to 7% annually for the next decade in India. But this hasn t always been the
case, in fact, it wasn t so long ago that India was simply another colonized nation around the world,
not to mention it s usually rare to see this kind of economic growth in such a small period of time. The
Effects of globalization, with an emphasis on open trade networks, and the Imperial developments of
the late 19th century have led to the emergence and rise of India s market based economy. This growth
has been affected in a very positive way over a span of centuries by a combination of stronger
economic developments brought about by a massive increase in the countries labor force and the
emphasis on education and self governance. An exposure to both the Western economic systems
during the imperial age until their independence in 1947 and their subsequent involvement in the
Asian, Middle Eastern and African trade routes from the late 15th century placed India in an economic
equilibrium where they were able to benefit from both worlds and become one of the fastest growing
economies. The global economic depression of the 1930 s combined with the two world wars was
crucial in establishing early seeds of economic development in India. During the global

The Importance Of Stage Directions In Shakespeare s Romeo...
In the very beginning of Act 1, Scene 1 of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, there is a fight between
the Montagues and the Capulets servants about them biting their thumbs at each other; biting their
thumbs at each other was a sign of disrespect. The variations in the intonation, tones, and stage
directions in the four different variations of the scene, show the viewer or the audience how differently
they were created and how each director has different ideas about how it should look and sound. They
had different ideas about how to show the emotions of the characters. The stage directions in the first
scene by George Cukor are pretty general. They show how the characters do have a rivalry with each
other. During the fight, you could tell that each person had different directions to follow during the
fight. During the second scene by Alvin Rakoff, they had more emotion in their actions, which you
could tell was through their stage directions. The director had a different idea about the part when

Human Testing On Human Beings
Since the beginning of time in the medical field, toxicology has always been a profound question.
What is toxic? And what not toxic. This question has pondered medical professionals for years. The
toxicity of anything varies greatly, what can and is toxic to one person may not be toxic to another,
and so on and so forth, this also includes as to what dosage of certain medicines and chemicals fall
into the toxic category as well. What one person can inquest safely might kill another person? So how
do we determine what is toxic, and how certain chemicals effect humans and animals? The answer is,
we must perform test on something that is similar to the human species. Animals having similar traits
and features in the body have often been the experimentation method of choice. By using animals in
testing has raised a lot of concern and controversy over the years, but so has testing on human beings.
One of the most horrifying examples of human testing was during World War II, the Nazi party in its
quest to create the ultimate human species, performed a lot of testing on the Jews that were in the
concentration camps with horrific results. But one good thing did come from this testing and that was
the general knowledge of what a person could endure resulting in the better treatment of any species
being tested for research purposes. The results from various chemical tests have been carried out for
the benefit in the risks for humans, animals and the environment they are

At first, the book attracted a considerable amount of attention purely because of its author. For the first
time a black anti colonial activist used a word coined by white French social scientists... in an
affirmative manner , arguably more affirmative than anyone had before . Certainly, Jean Paul Sartre,
who wrote the preface for The Wretched of the Earth and was one of Fanon s literary influences,

as the Fulfilment of Sartre s Critique of Dialectical Reason, Sartre would have found The Wretched of

the seven yearlong Algerian War of Independence of which Fanon was a great supporter. A lot of the
theoretical concepts for dealing with the process of de colonisation that Fanon speaks of in
Concerning Violence are his recommendations to the nations of Algeria and Kenya, both of whom

deemed to be an urgent call for an international redistribution of wealth , Fanon calls for solidarity
among the rural masses, which he believes can only be gained through them and by violent means .

This is often related to the fact that education increases income, employment and provides greater job
security. Education also produces enhanced literacy. This allows for individuals to better comprehend
the societal aspects that impact their health. Additionally, by having greater literacy, a patient can
advocate for their health, implement healthier lifestyle choices and seek out resources to enhance their
health (Mikkonen, Raphael, 2010). The literature also demonstrates that with poor education there are

Cannibalism or the consumption of human flesh by humans is an act in which many people feel

a meteorite like stone fallen from the sky, or the Angelic Stone as he called it:
Lastly, as touching the Angelical Stone, it is so subtle, said the aforesaid author, that it can neither be

Play Doh Essay
Clay is a certain type of ground, created by weathered and deposited rocks. When sent to sell, minerals
and other problematic things are removed. On the other hand, sand may be added perfect it. Clay used
to create art is called modeling clay. Modeling clay may be used for pottery or just plain sculpting. To
continue, there are actually many types of clay than just regular. Types of clay include polymer, air
dry, oil based, water based, and ceramic clays. In my experiment I will be using Play Doh and air dry
clay. Many characteristics contribute to the creation and structure of Play Doh. These main ingredients
include water and salt. The salt dissolves most of the water in clay, so it doesn t make the clay too
spongy. This modeling dough is composed of water, starch based binder, salt, lubricant, surfactant,
preservative, hardener, humectant, fragrance, food coloring, and wheat. Water, starch based binder,
and salt create the clay itself. The rest of the ingredients help the mixture, adding specific

If the government banned plastic bags for good, then the result would be an increase in paper bags.
This would result in even more environmental disadvantages. Both bags consume about the same
amount of energy, but in different ways. Paper bags cause a greater amount of water pollution and they
also cause trees to be removed. Trees are essential because they need to be present to absorb carbon
dioxide in the air. Paper bags also emit much more air pollution throughout their production. Plastic
bags are made from petroleum which in the end becomes more dangerous for wildlife consumption,
because of the element being worse for animals rather than paper. This is the only main issue for
plastic bags, which can be prevented. According to Lilianfield, paper emits 80 percent more
greenhouse gases, it uses three times the amount of water it takes to make plastic bags, and paper bags

restoration project that I initiated last semester. I was enticed by the appeal of bringing a lapsed
keystone species back into the forests of Vermont, and the romantic legacy it might provide for my
project. Unfortunately, I encountered a few challenging roadblocks in the American chestnut project s
early stages of implementation, such as lack of availability of blight resistant seedlings and the reality
that non blight resistant seedlings would most likely die as they did at Sterling College.
Although I was enthusiastic about the hands on physical element of my original project, I did feel that
it lacked an element of social justice that I hoped to convey through my project.
Given the lackluster social implications of the chestnut project, combined with its high likelihood of
failure, I decided to look for a worthy past delicate project to continue or for a current project to join.
Ultimately, I wanted to find a project that combined my passion for political activism with

Over the course of several meeting with senate and specific senate members, it became clear that
senate was fully aware that something had to be done to involve students in campus wide decision
making and provide a forum where students needs and concerns could be shared.
We ended up collaborating with senate in presenting the first community conversation to the student
body. Although this proto community meeting didn t follow the structure of future community
meetings, it served to gauge student interest and exceeded our project proposals ideal results with a
turnout of over forty students (10% of the on campus student body). The feedback session we led the
following week was also a success, although, as expected, it did not generate the same level of
participation that the original community meeting

City Demographics and Crime Profile
Running head: DEMOGRAPHICS CRIME
City Demographics and Crime Profile Project
CJA/550 Criminology Theory City Demographics and Crime Profile Project Demographics provide
the specifics necessary to obtain knowledge pertaining to a city s inhabitants. Attaining this type of
detailed information is vital to the creation of a flourishing municipality. Demographic data can offer
crucial material in relation to the particulars, such as the districts residents reside, the districts most
preferred, the areas more highly safeguarded, high crime areas, the elementary schools most preferred
and what type of developments residents want to see within the area. Verification is made by

Despite activity type, activity location, and the identity of participants, in some aspect, criminal
behavior will take place (Glenn, 2008, ¶3, 5, 7 9).
Changes
Detroit, the largest city in the state of Michigan, unfortunately has been plagued with a high crime rate
resulting in synonymous acts of violence, poverty, and urban decay. A multitude of factors are
considered when determining accurate explanations of crime within Detroit. These factors include
changes in land use, property values, transportation, and retail, as an individual moves further away
from the city center. According to Robert Park and Ernest Burgess, Chicago School, a city was similar
to a body and consisted of various organs. The theory attempted to analyze criminality from an
ecological and social disorganization standpoint. This theory asserted that a city included distinctive
concentric circles that radiated from the central business district (CBD). Supposedly, the further one
moves away from the concentric zones, the fewer social problems that exist (Williams McShane,
2009, p. 86).
The CBD consisted of industries, factories, and limited residential areas. Industries and factories
encroached upon this zone, and although an undesirable place to live, the zone was the cheapest. A
third zone was referred to as the workingmen s homes. The

Stéphanie Sokolinsk
The twenty five years old female star of Twilight movies likes men and women as well. Last summer,
her mother confirmed that Kristen was dating Alicia Cargile, a visual effects producer and coordinator.
Before that, from 2009 to 2013, Stewart was in love with the now twenty nine years old Robert
Pattinson, her partner from the vampire movie (until she cheated on him with Rupert Sanders, the
director of Snow White and the Huntsman).
Kristen has a new partner, but it s a woman again
Some tabloids have brought to light that the relationship of Kristen Stewart and Alicia Cargile was
over, but the actress has chosen a woman to be her love again. Stéphanie Sokolinski, known as Soko,
is a singer and actress living in the USA, but working in her homeland, France too. One can know her
from movies like the French teen movie titled Mes copines and the romantic drama, Her (in the latter
she was only a voice over).

It was the best thing ever! Three nights in, I went out and met a girl who was like, Hey, I like your
music. I work for a label, and we would love to sign you. Where are you staying? Do you need a place
to stay? and I was like, Yeah, I do. In addition, this happened that same night I had a blind date with
Robert Pattinson! said Soko to the site called A Music Blog, Yea?.
There are more connections between them, than we would expect
However, the date of Soko with Pattinson didn t have a continuation. But it s really funny, that the
French star is much more connected to her current love, Kristen Stewart, than we would think. By the
way, since that, Soko has also talked about their relationship with Stewart. I m very, very, very in love
and very happy in this relationship the artist said to W Magazine a few days

Liquid Crystal Display Advantages And Disadvantages
AGRICULTURE is the need of most of the Indians livelihood and it is one of the main sources of
livelihood. It also has a major impact on economy of the country. A major quantity of water is used for
irrigation system and therefore 85% of available fresh water resources are used for yielding
agricultural crops. This resource of water will decrease day by day and consumption of water will
dominate and increase more than 85% in upcoming half century. This is due to the high growth in
population due to this tremendous growth in population there is huge demand for food. Agriculture is
the main source for food production. Using science and technology we need to implement a method
by which there can be limited consumption of water.
Till date many methods have come into existence where water can be limitedly consumed. A method
where monitoring water status and based on status of water whether it is high or low irrigation is
scheduled which is based on canopy temperature of plant, which was captured with thermal imaging.

It is preferred by engineers because it uses very small amount of electric power. Liquid crystal display
(LCD) offers several advantages over traditional cathode ray tube that makes them ideal for several
applications. Of course LCD s are flat and they use only a fraction of power required by cathode ray
tubes. They are easier to read and more pleasant to work with for long periods of time. There are
several tradeoffs as well, such as limited view angle, brightness and contrast, not to maintain high
manufacturing cost. 16x2 LCD is used in this project to display data to user. There are two rows and
sixteen columns. It is possible to display 16 characters on each of the 2 rows. It has registers,

Patterns of Management Theory
THE MANAGEMENT THEORY JUNGLE
The purpose of this article is to identify the various schools of management theory, indicate the source
of the differences, and to provide some suggestions for disentangling the management theory jungle.
Koontz describes six schools of management theory as follows.
1. The Management Process School
The management process school views management as a process of getting things done with people
working in organized groups. Fathered by Henri Fayol, this school views management theory as a way
of organizing experience for practice, research and teaching. It begins by defining the functions of
management.
2. The Empirical School
The empirical school views management theory as a study of experience. Koontz mentions ... Show

For example, mathematics, operations research, accounting, economic theory, sociometry, and
psychology are significant tools of management, but they are not part of the content of the field.
2. Integration of Management and other Disciplines
3. The Clarification of Management Semantics
4. Willingness to Distill and Test Fundamentals
Criteria to Remember in Clarifying Management Theory
1. Management theory should deal with a manageable area of knowledge and inquiry.
2. Management theory should be useful in improving practice.
3. Management theory should not be lost in semantics, jargon not understandable to the practitioner.
4. Management theory should provide direction and efficiency to research and teaching.
5. Management theory must recognize that it is a part of a larger universe of knowledge and theory.
Koontz clarified the jungle like nature of management theory, first in the
Journal of the Academy of Management, then in Harvard Business Review.^
Business Week magazine noted it for the executive reader. Waino Suojauen,
Lyndall Urwick, and many others have leaped into the fray. William Frederick suggests that in ten
years we will see from this jungle emerge a general theory akin to Keynes General Theory of
Employment Interest and Money in the field of economics.^
There are many indications that a serious

Unisa Building Construction
The UniSA s School of Law is a heritage building with important historical value. It was built in 1940
41 for the administrative headquarters of the South Australian Brewing Company. In 1956, extensions
were added to the original building. The Georgian style of the building, was designed by the architect
F Kenneth Milne, who chose clay brick masonry as the material for the structure (Adelaide City
Heritage 2015). Through the years, the building has been exposed to an earthquake in 1954
(Sinadinovski, Greenhalgh Love 2006), wind loads, humidity, temperature variations, internal loads
and other forces. All these factors have an impact on the structure and it has led the building to several
small structural damages. The aim of this paper is to research and study the structural behavior of clay
brick masonry and analyse the damages on the UniSA Law building. This will lead to an
understanding of what factors led to the failures and propose an approach of how it can be fixed. 2.

Wind, rain and small quakes that Adelaide has experienced since being built has had an effect on the
building. The wind and rain has caused wear and tear over long periods of time with rain seeping into
the brickwork. Earthquakes have also affected the Law building even though they have rarely
occurred in Adelaide. These effects on the building depend on the magnitude of the earthquake. The
biggest earthquake that the building has experienced happened in 1954 which was recorded to be 5.6
on the Richter scale. This had an effect on all parts of the building, both internal and external. These
were from the foundations of the building to the roof, damaging the materials used in the construction

  • 2. Thirteen Reasons Why Analysis Preserving Intellectual Freedom The American Library Association states that the most challenged and restricted reading material have been children books. However, challenges are not merely an expression of a point of view; on the contrary, it is an attempt to remove materials from public use, thus restricting the access to others. Even if the motivation to ban or challenge a book is well intended, the outcome is unfair for everyone else. Censorship denies our freedom as individuals to choose and think for ourselves. For children, decisions about what books to read should only be made by the people who know them best their parents! (Letter to the Editor). I strongly disagree when people want books banned based on their own opinion of the book. The novel in question, Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, is no exception to frequent challenges. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a privilege that we all have in the United States and it should not be taken lightly. Parents should understand that they have a right to decide what their child reads, but they should not take away that same right from other parents. The attempt to expose students to challenging topics and issues is not intended to force students into a certain mode of thought. Books serve as opportunities for students to think, theorize, question, and explore those topics in a controlled environment directed by teachers, parents, and experts and even though the book contains some sensitive material the lessons learned are far superior to the controversial material presented in Thirteen Reasons Why. Great lessons are not just learned in real life; we can learn them in books as well. Give the book an honest try and do not be biased to sensitive material, grasp the main message of the book then make the final decision, but make sure it is for your child, not the entire school ... One of the tools not used today would be the adze and it was used for carving and planing but now we have different tools that work better than that(2). Some of the things the Egyptians would build with their use of woodwork would be when they built their huts and also when they build their mud buildings because they would make a frame of the building out of wood. Emile Durkheim’S Book Elementary Forms Of Religious Life Emile Durkheim s book Elementary Forms of Religious Life serves as a religious guide from the perspective of primitive societies by focusing on understanding the key principles of religion by studying these groups and drawing similarities to major ideologies based off of their key elements and rituals. His goal from this research was to figure out the origins of religion itself. His study focused on the aborigines, the indigenous people of Australia. In layman s terms, he perceives religion as firstly a society questioning how they arrived at said point and from where they started, allowing the praise to go to a higher power. Edward Burnett Tylor states, the ordinary condition of the savage is the result of degeneration from a far higher state saying that our most primitive forms are reflections of the gods themselves. The second says religion is a tool used for formulating societies throughout the ages and our world today, our geographic distribution, has been accounted for based off of the religious identities of our past societies. Opposers of Durkheim s ideas hold religions to be of unequal standing, saying all religions do not all have the same measure of truth. To them, Durkheim argues that to understand his approach one must reach beneath the symbolism, grasp the reality it represents and understand its true meaning. In a sense, he is saying that by understanding one religion, you have the capacity to understand another. To achieve the author s goal, he utilizes Aristotle s categories of understanding time, space, number, cause, substance, and personality all corresponding to universal properties. This became a popular system for classification as he believed religion itself served as a universal property. The article utilized the concept of time as a key to understanding religion. Swigert flipped the switch for the routine procedure. However when flipping the switch one of the oxygen tanks in the service module exploded. Individuals values, ideas and identities are influenced, and to a certain degree, shaped by the cultures and societies they live in. However, by realizing identity, an individual can find a sense of independence, which subsequently leads towards self actualization. In the novel Like Water for Chocolate , by Laura Esquivel, the protagonist, Tita, faces her journey from a young, submissive daughter to a strong, independent woman who is eventually able to achieve self actualization, which is reflected in her non traditional sense of identity and independence, and is something that not only ties in with Maslow s hierarchy of needs, but I can relate myself to as well. Self actualization refers to the desire to achieve one s greatest potential or as Maslow writes what a man can be, he must be (Maslow). In the USA, $245 billion was spent towards diabetes in 2012 and with the consistent rise in diagnosis, that number may be $500 billion by 2025. Diabetes can be categorized into a few categories, the well known sectors being type 1 and type 2. Type 1 DM is characterized by complete insulin deficiency as opposed to type 2 DM (90% 95% of new cases of diabetes) which is characterized by variable degrees of insulin resistance, impaired insulin secretion, and excessive hepatic glucose production. Plato was a philosopher in Classical Greece and the founder of the Academy in Athens, the first institution of higher learning in the Western world. War is nothing new, throughout history we have experienced over hundreds of wars with more in the future. For every war requires soldiers to fight for what they believe in. In most cases the soldiers are on a mission to fight the enemy for their country. Fighting is common between individuals because conflict is inevitable. It can try to be avoided, but as a nation, we can never eliminate it.The way to manage conflict and reduce the damage is less hate and more love. The overall goal of the soldiers is to fight for the interest of the country which is not peace but power. The power is sent to bring peace, once everyone is continent peace will appear. Conflict exists because there is always someone to fight, whether that be in gang or drug wars, or more importantly with politics and war between nations. There will always be a fight to win what someone wants, which can flare war. Furthermore, war is a state of conflict between different groups that potentially end with death. • 19. King Richard Transformation Essay The Transformation of Richard In William Shakespeare s play, Richard II, England is ruled by the profligate king, King Richard. He has spent all his father s money and has fallen out of favor with his subjects. Henry Bolingbroke overthrows Richard and takes his crown. As this occurs Richard undergoes a change. Before his usurpation Richard would not listen to anyone, was selfish, and did not care about the well being of anyone else. When Richard realizes that he has lost everything and is now at the mercy of Bolingbroke, he reflects on his life and becomes a more aware and caring person. Richard s reaction is greedy and displays a lack of love for his uncle. Not only does Richard encourage death to hasten to his uncle, who has cared for him since he was ten, he also illegally seizes Gaunt s lands. Richard knows that under the Magna Charta this is illegal, but Richard believes himself above the law (Phillips 161). He does not have any regard for the law because he is King. After it becomes apparent that Richard has lost everything, he becomes selfless. When speaking to Bolingbroke, Richard blesses him saying, God save the king, although I be not he, / And yet amen (Shakespeare 4.1.183 184). Before his fall, Richard would demand flattery and give out none. But now he is giving his blessing to Bolingbroke, acknowledging him as king. Richard also shows that he has changed by his reaction when he learns about the deaths of Green, Bushy, and the Earl of Wiltshire. Vertigo As The Archetypal Mystery Vertigo as the Archetypal Mystery Christopher O Neil Introduction to Film Prof. Michael O Donnell March 16th, 2015 Alfred Hitchcock s Vertigo is a classic movie of the mystery genre. The film takes what appears to be a relatively conventional mystery plot and enacts a process whereby it proceeds to continually fold it within itself in order to develop a film that appears to change its nature several times, but that nonetheless continues to perpetuate a sense of mystery. Indeed, in many ways the experience of watching Vertigo is the experience of seeing something essential about the world unravelling; something that both applies and does not apply to the events of the film itself. This paper will consider Vertigo as a mystery film, but will also show how the film transcends this genre, or distils it to such an extent that even when the mystery at its centre has been resolved, it nonetheless remains almost as unfathomable at is was at start of the film. In essence, the film not only presents the reconciliation of a mystery within its plot but essentially dramatizes the ineffably mysterious nature of reality itself. This paper will demonstrate this by paying attention to key scholarship around Hitchcock and psychoanalysis. Effects Of Imperialism On The Indian Economy Effects of Imperialism to the Indian Economy In 2015 India was ranked among the highest countries globally in consumer confidence, this comes after the International Monetary Fund estimated an economic growth of up to 7% annually for the next decade in India. But this hasn t always been the case, in fact, it wasn t so long ago that India was simply another colonized nation around the world, not to mention it s usually rare to see this kind of economic growth in such a small period of time. This growth has been affected in a very positive way over a span of centuries by a combination of stronger economic developments brought about by a massive increase in the countries labor force and the emphasis on education and self governance. An exposure to both the Western economic systems during the imperial age until their independence in 1947 and their subsequent involvement in the Asian, Middle Eastern and African trade routes from the late 15th century placed India in an economic equilibrium where they were able to benefit from both worlds and become one of the fastest growing economies. • 41. American Lip Project Analysis I entered the delicate balance project process with the intention of continuing the American chestnut restoration project that I initiated last semester. I was enticed by the appeal of bringing a lapsed keystone species back into the forests of Vermont, and the romantic legacy it might provide for my project. Unfortunately, I encountered a few challenging roadblocks in the American chestnut project s early stages of implementation, such as lack of availability of blight resistant seedlings and the reality that non blight resistant seedlings would most likely die as they did at Sterling College. Although I was enthusiastic about the hands on physical element of my original project, I did feel that it lacked an element of social justice that I hoped to convey through my project. Given the lackluster social implications of the chestnut project, combined with its high likelihood of failure, I decided to look for a worthy past delicate project to continue or for a current project to join. Ultimately, I wanted to find a project that combined my passion for political activism with meaningful, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the course of several meeting with senate and specific senate members, it became clear that senate was fully aware that something had to be done to involve students in campus wide decision making and provide a forum where students needs and concerns could be shared. Despite activity type, activity location, and the identity of participants, in some aspect, criminal behavior will take place (Glenn, 2008, ¶3, 5, 7 9). Changes Detroit, the largest city in the state of Michigan, unfortunately has been plagued with a high crime rate resulting in synonymous acts of violence, poverty, and urban decay. A multitude of factors are considered when determining accurate explanations of crime within Detroit. These factors include changes in land use, property values, transportation, and retail, as an individual moves further away from the city center. According to Robert Park and Ernest Burgess, Chicago School, a city was similar to a body and consisted of various organs. The theory attempted to analyze criminality from an ecological and social disorganization standpoint. This theory asserted that a city included distinctive concentric circles that radiated from the central business district (CBD). Supposedly, the further one moves away from the concentric zones, the fewer social problems that exist (Williams McShane, 2009, p. 86). The CBD consisted of industries, factories, and limited residential areas. Industries and factories encroached upon this zone, and although an undesirable place to live, the zone was the cheapest. A third zone was referred to as the workingmen s homes. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Unisa Building Construction The UniSA s School of Law is a heritage building with important historical value. It was built in 1940 41 for the administrative headquarters of the South Australian Brewing Company. In 1956, extensions were added to the original building. The Georgian style of the building, was designed by the architect F Kenneth Milne, who chose clay brick masonry as the material for the structure (Adelaide City Heritage 2015). Through the years, the building has been exposed to an earthquake in 1954 (Sinadinovski, Greenhalgh Love 2006), wind loads, humidity, temperature variations, internal loads and other forces. All these factors have an impact on the structure and it has led the building to several small structural damages. The aim of this paper is to research and study the structural behavior of clay brick masonry and analyse the damages on the UniSA Law building. This will lead to an understanding of what factors led to the failures and propose an approach of how it can be fixed. 2.
