One Out Of Many By V. Naipaul
The word culture means way of life of the people, thus the society, the ideas, customs, and social
behavior of a group of people that differentiates them from another group of people. It is the overall
attitude, customs and beliefs that distinguishes one culture from another. Culture is something that is
actually transferred from one generation to another not through genes but through language, material
objects, rituals that we daily perform, through institutions and through art and drama. For example
greeting guests by kissing both cheeks with hugs and serving Arabian tea with dates is in Arab culture.
In this essay I will be discussing about cultural encounters that have been shown in the literary works
and specifically throwing light upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dirt Bikes Experience
I am currently 17 years old, about to be 18, and I have been around both motorcycles and dirt bikes for
nearly my entire life. Every experience I have ever had with motorcycles and dirt bikes has been a
completely safe experience; at least, for those experiences that I can remember. I remember my
mother telling me that when I was younger, probably around 3 4, my stepfather wanted to take me for
a ride on his dirt bike. My mother was completely opposed to me being on such a dangerous thing, as
many other people also believe. However, my stepdad convinced my mother to let him take me for a
ride and it turned out I loved it! My parents say I came back laughing and smiling from the ride. Most
people who believe motorcycles (and similar vehicles)

estimate the ideal multi threshold mask (IMM) that has been utilized in the realm of monaural speech
improvement. It contains 2 stages, specifically training stage and enhancement stage. Within the
training stage, a man made neural network is trained by exploitation the SNR of every T F unit of
training information. Second stage uses the calculated SNR to estimate IMM and to separate the target
speech from clamant signal.
This analysis work proposes a method to scale back the impact of musical noise pro duced by IBM, by
planning a soft mask which might be utilized in speech separation applications. Genetic algorithmic

the objective measures like S/N improvement and perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ) are
used to measure the performance of planned optimum soft mask with the prevailing IBM 22 and
IMM16 based speech separation systems. Rest of the paper is organized in the following manner.
Section two provides an outline of computational auditory scene analysis (CASA). Section three
presents the proposed optimum soft mask based speech separation system. Section four provides the
experimental results of IBM, IMM and also the planned soft mask. Section five deals with the
conclusion and future work.

California, I have found it, according to their state motto. A land plentiful in beauty. The north houses
massive fields, ideal for harvesting the fruit of the vine. The middle of the state contains a massive

combination of Hollywood stars that own ten million dollar houses, while at the same time, only 80
miles south lies an area with a large Hispanic influence.

Historical background: Irish Social Conditions and Emigration Ireland has endured waves of
emigration, particularly after1848. Many left their native land to seek a better life elsewhere. The Irish
were second class citizens within their own nation; Ireland was a British colony and the Northern
Protestants controlled the economy of the country. Catholic families often faced hardship. Alcoholism
and abuse, as portrayed in Eveline were rampant. As a result, many of the Irish sought to escape James

his intentions are devious. He started his sailing career on a trade route associated with exile and full
of stories about infamously savage tribes from Argentina. Also, going to Buenos Aires was a slang
term for prostitution, and the night boat to Liverpool may have been a reference to the mythological
journey over the Styx river to the pagan underworld both of which are implications that Frank might

Case Study Of Ant Colony Optimization
1.6 Ant Colony Optimization: 1.6.1 Introduction The conception of massive Gordian behavior
emerging from the behavior of many relatively simple units, and the dealings with them, is
fundamental to the field of Artificial Intelligence. The growing understanding of such systems offers
the prospect of creating artificial systems which are controlled by such significant shared behavior; in
particular, we believe that the sweating of this concept might lead to entirely new channels for the
pilotage of distributed systems, such as load balancing in telecommunications networks. In such
regimes, requests between any two points typically route through some central switching bureau or
nodes in a big system; there are many future paths for each such call. It is thus viable to emancipate
actual or potential local hurdles by routing requests via parts of the system which have extra capacity.
Load balancing is essentially the creation of call routing schemes which successfully assign the
changing load over the system and curtail lost requests. Of course, it is viable to determine the shortest
routes from every node to every other node of the network. With the help of this mean utilization of
nodes reduces, but this is not necessarily the drift way to avoid node congestion, as this has to do with
how the vivisection of the traffic on the network. Controlling distributed systems through a single
central controller has several repugnancies. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Global Drug Policy
The global policy on drugs has one main concern, as maintained in the first clause of the 1961 UN
Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs: promoting the health and welfare of mankind (United Nations,
1961). The convention and global drug policy actors have asserted through the years that drugs pose a
threat to this concern, and so an integrated effort to reduce supply, demand and trafficking of said
narcotics is the desired course of action (High Level segment Commission on Narcotic Drugs, 2009).
It seems that this course of action became an end of itself instead of a mean to an end of health and
welfare, as mounting evidence shows that the actions taken to achieve this have not only been
ineffective in reducing supply, demand and trafficking; they have also created severe violations of
human rights, alongside criminalization, a hazard to public health, and drug cartels which pose a very
real threat to peace and security.
Member states have not been oblivious to the fact that the measures taken have been
counterproductive, and an increasing number of states are dissatisfied with the results of this policy
(Doward, 2013). Some have addressed this by decriminalizing possession and use of drugs and
introducing harm reduction programs, considering the issue of demand not a criminal issue but a
public health one. The evidence in favor of such programs was acknowledged by international bodies
such as WHO and UNODC, emphasizing that reducing demand should be done through means of

The Victorian Era had lasted from the years 1837 1901. People in this era were known through their
social class and how efficiently they were able to present themselves. Those who were obligated to
carry themselves is such a proficient manner, were the women of Victorian Era. Although they had
been expected to perform and execute many tasks, they were never recognized just as equal to the men
in society. They were never acknowledged to make judgments or decisions, rather were best known
for marriage, prostitution, and motherhood. As the men, dominated and took control of every decision

Unfortunately, due to her accent and manner of dressing, she suffered from homesickness and had a

Needs Hierarchy Theory of Motivation
a. One of the most widely mentioned theories of motivation is the hierarchy of needs theory put forth
by psychologist Abraham Maslow. He was known for establishing the theory of a hierarchy, writing
that the needs of human beings can act as motivators when those very needs remain unsatisfied. In
order to address a need of a higher level, the immediate lower level of need must be satisfied initially.
Maslow s studied extensively exemplary people like Einstein, Roosevelt rather than mentally ill or
neurotic people. This was in itself a radical deviation from the popular schools of psychology of his
day, Freud and Skinner who saw little difference between animalistic and humane motivations.
Maslow s hierarchy of needs was an alternative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The negative version of these needs is low self esteem and inferiority complexes. Maslow felt that
Adler was really onto something when he proposed that these were at the roots of many, if not most,
of our psychological problems. All of the preceding four levels he calls deficit needs, or D needs. If
you don t have enough of something i.e. you have a deficit you feel the need. But if you get all you
need, you feel nothing at all! In other words, they cease to be motivating. 5. Self Actualisation The
highest need in Maslow s hierarchy is the need to truly become what one is capable of becoming, to
maximize one s potential and to accomplish material manifestations of the promise of an individual.
People who have everything can maximize their potential. They can seek knowledge, peace, esthetic
experiences, self fulfillment, one ness with God, etc. In evaluating this need the individuals were
characteristic of a certain criterion. A few were that These people were reality centered, which means
they could differentiate what is fake and dishonest from what is real and genuine. They were problem
centered, meaning they treated life s difficulties as problems demanding solutions, not as personal
troubles to be railed at or surrendered to. And they had a different perception of means and ends. They
felt that the ends don t necessarily justify the means, that the means could be ends themselves, and

Day Of The Dead ( Or All Hallows Eve
The end of October and beginning of November two very different yet also seemingly similar
celebrations take place. Halloween (or All Hallows Eve) is celebrated on October 31 in several
countries including the USA. It has its roots in pagan celebrations for the end of the harvest season,
various festivals of the dead, and the Celtic Samhain festival. Day of the Dead (or Dia de los Muertos)
is a Mexican holiday, which is also celebrated in parts of Latin America and in the U.S., to remember
and pray for family and friends who have died. It takes place on November 1. Neither of these
holidays are religious in nature, but each holds their own unique set of symbols and traditions some of
which go back hundreds of years. Both of these holidays are in place to bring the living closer to the
dead and to connect the two realms.
The origin of Dia De Los Muertos can be traced back to indigenous cultures in Mexico dating back
2,500 to 3,000 years. These cultures would hold annual rituals lasting one full month and would be
purposed to celebrate, not mourn the dead. Though the reason for celebration is the same, the length is
not. Instead of celebrating for a full month, today the celebration only lasts for a few days. During
these few days families take the time to remember the deceased. The atmosphere is not somber
however; it resembles more of a picnic or celebration. People visit the graves of the deceased at their
respective cemeteries and build private altars. The creation of

labeled merchandise that includes manufacturer s overruns, closeouts, or damaged goods. (Kaikati,
1985) Most items acquired to be sold at Ross are excess items from other stores that they could not
sell, items that are not the latest fashion anymore, and sometimes some defective products that are not
completely perfect but still useable. When these items are bought for Ross, they are generally bought

the company does receive items as the ones explained above, then they are obligated to discard the

I would rule to revoke the Respondent s driver s license in this situation. Pursuant to C.R.S. § 42 4
1301.1(2)(a)(III), if a law enforcement officer requests a blood or breath test to determine the BAC
level of a driver, the driver must cooperate with the request such that the sample of blood or breath can
be obtained within two hours of the person s driving. Under this statute, a police officer with probable
cause believing that a driver has committed an alcohol related driving offense may require the driver
to select and to complete either a blood test or a breath test. After the driver selects a particular test,
then he or she must submit to that test within two hours. Id.; People v. Null, 233 P.3d 670, 678 (Colo.

We do know the officer was dispatched to the scene at 5:50 PM and the test occurred at 7:15 PM. In
this situation, two hours hadn t even passed since the officer knew of the incident, though possibly two
hours from the Respondent driving. However, pursuant to Boom and Stumpf, as long as a request for
the test is made within a reasonable time and the test occurs within two hours of that time, there
should be no issue presented by these facts. In my opinion, the officer requested the test within a
reasonable time from being dispatched to the scene, just over an hour after being dispatched. It is
difficult to say with certainty based on these facts what occurred. While we do not need the law
enforcement officer to be present at the hearing, see C.R.S. § 42 2 126(8)(a)(II), we do need the
officer to submit all required documents and affidavit mandated by § 42 2 126(5)(a). For blood or
breath tests administered to a driver suspected of drunk driving to be admissible in administrative
proceedings regarding revocation of a driver s license, the tests must be administered in accordance
with health department rules and regulations. Brewer v. Motor Vehicle Div., Dept. of Revenue, 720
P.2d 564, 568 (Colo. 1986). Therefore, in these circumstances I would rule to revoke Respondent s
driver s license since his BAC was well over the legal limit of 0.08 and because the officer
administered the test within a reasonable time. Even without the officer present to testify, there should
be enough evidence presented for a revocation of the Respondent s license pursuant to C.R.S. §

where I was going to live. My eyes searched carefully from the door of one bedroom to that of another
for my name which ought to have been pasted on the door of one of these bedrooms. At last I found it.
On stepping into the bedroom I found there was already a student who was making her bed, She was
thin, short and black skinned. Her hair looked like a bundle of straw. Her dirty clothes and lusterless
eyes clearly indicated that she had a long journey. Her clothes were made of cheap cloth. Her coat was

And all her looks made me feel that she did not look like a smart girl. A yokel, I concluded. The

The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control
As opponents against gun control have numerous reasons as to why guns should not be restricted
amongst the American public but pointed to the Second Amendment to the United Constitution as the
main reason why gun control should not be permitted in the U.S. However, what these critics do not
want to accept is that since 1980, several crucial events in the United States have led to excessive gun
control movement. Remarkably, it takes a lot more than one appalling catastrophe to influence
Americans that more attention should be taken into monitoring the number and types of guns the
public can get access to. However, some major shooting calamities in the U.S such as assassination
attempts on President Reagan s, Columbine, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook have all triggered
majority of Americans to take a stance in favor of gun control legislation. The first key push in the
direction of the gun control movement begun during the era of Ronald Reagan presidency since he
happened to be of one of the most pro gun presidents in American history.
During the first few months of his presidency, a notorious assassination effort nearly terminated his
life. This almost tragic moment in history happened on March 30, 1981, as President Reagan finished
delivering his speech at the Washington Hilton Hotel, to a group of union members of the AFL

John Hinckley Jr. was waiting outside the hotel, with the determination of killing president Reagan.

shots were fired from Mr. Hinckley s handgun, in the direction of the President and his Secret Service
detail. The FBI accounts state, President Reagan was struck in the left chest area by a bullet along with
his press Secretary Brady who was also shot from the same spate of bullets which entered his brain

conceals whole meaning Morrison tries to conduct to the readers. So far, character Beloved is
portrayed as an innocent, pure, yet egotistic girl. Beloved also presumably the incarnation of Sethe s
dead baby, whose tomb is engraved Beloved. Morrison offers supernatural element in the story to
create mysterious and spooky atmosphere, which raise curiosity and excite readers even more.
Beloved is seen as the resemblance of Sethe s dead baby. Beloved is portrayed as a teenage girl,
however she is different from other black teenager, ...and younger than her clothes suggested good
lace at the throat, and a rich woman s hat. Her skin was flawless except for three vertical scratches on
her forehead so fine and thin they seemed at first like hair, baby hair before it bloomed and roped into
the masses of black yarn under her hat. (Morrison 62). Beloved unexpectedly came to 124, the house
where Sethe, Denver, and Paul D lived. However, Sethe became attracted to her, Sethe was deeply
touched by her sweet name; the remembrance of glittering headstone made her feel especially kindly
toward her. Denver, however, was shaking. She looked at this sleepy beauty and wanted more.
(Morrison 63) represent Sethe s fascination towards Beloved, because she made Sethe recall her dead
baby, which also has the word Beloved engraved in the gravestone. The name Beloved itself makes
Sethe sentimental from

Mythology In Japanese Mythology
Ancient civilizations have used various tactics, such as pictographs or writing systems, to document
important events. However, only few civilizations have actually used mythology to write about the
truth , one of them being the people of the ancient Japanese civilization. The truth is a representation
of how each civilization views the beginning of the world and how it affects the civilization today.
Although some parts of mythology seem outrageous and clearly not based on scientific fact, there are
evidences that prove some events mentioned within mythologies have actually happened seen in
present day Japan. Japanese mythologies have incorporated historical truth into their mythologies.
This is important because understanding the past allows for cultural development in the future. Chris
Kincaid, an accredited blogger on the Japan Powered website, states: Like all mythology, it was
considered factually true and Truth through most of history (1). This means that the purpose of the
mythologies, such as the Kojiki and Nihongi, was to report factual evidence while speculating how the
world came to be. The use of mythology was a mechanism used as a means to engage the common
man and help come up with explanations to things that were not proven by scientific fact. As long as
the essential focus is on the recording of the political policies of the mythologies, then everything
begins to align because of the apparent effects and evidences in the present day Japan. By connecting

Iq Tests And Cultural Bias
Essay #3: IQ Tests and Cultural Bias There was a cartoon showing different animals, including an
elephant, fish, seal, and monkey, lined up by a tree in front of a man behind a desk. The man said he
was going to make a fair selection by giving them all the same test. The test was that they all had to
climb the tree. In this case, the monkey probably was the only one that thought the test was fair.
Welcome to the controversy over IQ (Intelligent Quotient) tests and cultural diversity. In 1904, a
French psychologist (Alfred Binet) created the first intelligence test in order to help the French
Ministry of Education segregate children that may have difficulty learning in a regular classroom. At
that time, he did not know that his test would be the basis for IQ tests administered over 100 years
later. He has a Stanford University psychologist, Lewis Terman, to thank for expanding his work and
creating the Stanford Binet intelligence test that took root in the United States in 1916 and is still
popular today. However, along with its popularity came criticism. Critics see the current version of the
Stanford Binet test and other intelligence tests, despite attempts to make them culturally fair, as
limiting to individuals who are not from the major social norm. They claim that cultural bias in test
questions is why certain races do not perform as well as others on the test. Psychologist Arthur Jensen
stated the extent of the controversy best in the opening to his 1978 article,

The Glass Ceiling And Gender Analysis
The Glass Ceiling is the title given to an invisible barrier that is meant to limit women from
succeeding in top level jobs. They only judge based on their gender and do not take into account
women s education, experience, or job related skills. Some argue that the only people who have put a
limit to how far women can succeed in their career, are women themselves, but the Glass Ceiling and
gender discrimination in the workforce does exist and is a major problem that needs to be addressed.
Topics such as equal pay, discrimination, harassment, and misconceptions all play a part in the
limiting barrier placed over women in the working world. It not only puts a limit on what women can
achieve in their future profession, but also affects their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even so, the percentage of women who decided to join the work force increased from 43 60%. In fact
because of the Great Recession in 2008 2009 impacted the male dominated industries the most, but it
helped the acceleration towards gender equality (Conley, Dalton, 2013). Now there are approximately
the same amount of women and men working in the labor force. Actually for a brief time, women
even exceeded men due to this economic crisis. Even though the US passed title VII of the 1964 civil
rights act, which declared it unlawful for employers to discriminate on the basis of a person s race,
nationality, creed, or sex , women faced harder predicaments that they had to push through. Women
have to deal with hard situations like harassment, a legal form of discrimination , with things like dirty
jokes, and sexual haggle, where they are threatened to provide sexual favors or in turn would receive
punishment (Conley, Dalton, 2013). Even nearly 40 years after the Equal Pay Act (1963) was passed,
discrepancy between women and men flourish in the working world. There was a study performed by
the general accounting office in 2003 which found that women earned 79.7% of what men were
earning. As such, if we were to compare this finding to the findings in 1983 when women earned
80.3% we can clearly see that this wage gap is in no way diminishing (Alkadry, M.G., Tower, L.E., 1).
There have been attempts to rectify and fight the unequal pay based on gender inequality through
legislation, regulation, and litigation (Alkadry, M.G., Tower, L.E., 1). The Equal Pay Act was based
off of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the process of rectification
depends greatly on trying to enforce these two lawsuits. Unfortunately despite many years of equal

Theme Of North And South
Elizabeth Gaskell s novel North and South, as described by Rosemarie Bodenheimer, is a novel about
irrevocable change, and about the confused process of response and accommodation that attends it
(282). One can certainly argue that the character of Mr. Thornton must be among the most intriguing
ones that go through such change. Over the course of the novel, he grows from a proud, impatient
businessman to become, well, just as proud, but somehow more of a patient man. His humanity seems
to be revealed through his association with and admiration for Miss Margaret Hale. When the two of

Perpetual Peace
Throughout Immanuel Kant s influential essay, Perpetual peace: A Philosophical Sketch. Kant
attempts to theorize peace and purposes that peace be permanentately established. He proclaims these
notions in two sections throughout his essay. The first being the preliminary articles and the second
the three definitive articles. States are to take the preliminary articles on immediately or with
intentional speed and the three definitive articles provide not simply a cessation of hostilities but a
foundation to build peace upon. Within these articles, Kant addresses many vital points such as
proposition one and proposition sixth, both of which I am in agreement with would help secure a more
utopia like future. My deviation with mister Kant, however, is a proposition he declares within the
first section of perpetual peace. In proposition five of the preliminary articles Kant stats, No state shall

wartime as would make mutual trust in a future period of peace impossible (Kant 70). Both these
propositions highlight the necessity for the regression of aggression between states. For instance, the
first proposition requires not a truce, but perpetual peace that nullifies the causes of war. It calls for a

Research Paper On The Masque Of The Black Death
The Masque of the Black Death
It s the mid 1300 s, daily life is going as usual, a plague is going around, people start to panic, adults
abandoning their children, some people are locking themselves indoors. A vile stench goes into the air.
Plague Doctors, with their creepy bird like masks and creepy blood covered cloak, start walking into
town. A sharp pain cuts through the townspeople s bodies as they start feeling weaker and they see that
their face is turning very red. Before anyone knows it a familiar body is in the street unresponsive.
Edgar Allan Poe took inspiration from the symptoms on people from The Black Death and used it for
The Masque of the Red Death , such as body color changing after death, dying soon after anyone gets

Sometimes it is easy to forget the game played on frozen ponds and backyard rinks, and get lost in the

became Canada s game because it made our never ending winter months more bearable . The game
gradually became a sport, then an entertainment industry. It seems like the lockout was one of the
biggest news stories of the year. Part of the amazing nature of the game is that it s origins are fairly
vague. However, we always remember that hockey is our game. It may not be our official sport, like

When he was traded for multiple Los Angeles players in 1988, Canada was set into somewhat of an
emotional earthquake. This shows how dedicated we are to supporting our home grown players.
Another hockey great, who was purely Canadian, and proved his worth in the game of hockey, is the
amazing Rocket Richard. He was known for his excellence, but was also just as well known for his
great spirit and love for the game. He, as well as Gretzky, was given the honour of being among the

It is one of the oldest rituals to be practiced even today in every parts of the world. Marriage is an
important part of the traditional African society and is one of the largely reflected issues in African

this regard, states that Emecheta deals mainly with the black woman as the victim of black patriarchy

Online Gambling On North American Shores

It went down as one of the controversial rulings in Canadian history, when government proposals to
approve online gambling in Ontario were passed. While not affecting the rest of the world directly, it
would prove be a major step with regards to legalising online gambling on North American shores.
The legislation still has it detractors, as some don t like the idea of there being legal gambling
available within the home, but the records show that people are warming up to the idea. Proving to be
both beneficial to punters and the tax office, PlayOLG is finally reaping the rewards of its drawn out
development process.
The site itself was in development for quite some time by online casino standards, but has seemingly
got better as time went on. The casino features games from developers Boss Media, Bally
Technologies, and world renowned IGT, along with a small selection of titles from the Ontario Lottery
and Gaming Corporation, Canadian lottery tickets can also be purchased directly through PlayOLG
too. The reason for why the casino took so long to get up and running was because it was being
selective in the location base and what technologies would fit in with government operated gambling
standards. Since its inception players have shown their support by registering in high numbers, while
revenue figures show that the casino was worth the wait and it is only getting better with age.

better. From the beginning of the story of Gilgamesh to the end you can see a total transformation in
this character. The strong and greedy king showed fear and vulnerability. The death of his brother and
second half stirred up his restless heart and sent him on a journey to fight and overcome death. The
lesson he learned though was to appreciate his life every day until he dies. He learned that death was a
part of life. Gilgamesh has obvious flaws and goes through many struggles just as its readers do on a
daily basis. Gilgamesh s vulnerability makes him easy to relate to. Modern American readers want a
hero who s relatable and seems ordinary in their emotions and life. People change in life sometimes
for the better and sometimes for the worst. In the case of Gilgamesh he changed for the better and
become a better person. Readers

Water Purification Lab
Abstract: The main objective of this lab was to determine how to effectively measure and compare
bacteria in different water sources, specifically in this lab by using Coleman Drinking Water
Purification Tablets. The tablets did not eliminate bacteria to the level found in tap water, however
they were still very effective at eliminating bacteria. The tablets as a result can be trusted by the user
to remove any unnecessary health risk when drinking water from an untreated source.
Introduction:
Water purification in the backcountry while camping and hiking takes place in many forms, from U.V.

That is why it is of the utmost important to check the effectiveness of a hiker s equipment. Water
purification is the most important thing to have while out hiking in the backcountry. A real world
scenario was the only way of being able to properly tell whether or not the Iodine tablets could be
counted upon, when they are the only thing being used for water remediation. The lab procedure start
by taking a river water sample from the Menomonee River, which was then separated into three 1L
beakers which were then filled to the range of .95L to 1L. The water samples as is, were then swabbed
for bacteria, and rubbed across a Tryptic Soy Agar plate (TSA), to facilitate growth of bacteria if any
was present in the water. The water was then treated with the drinking water tablets per their
instructions, and was then swabbed again for bacteria after the 35 minute mark. This second swab was
then also streaked across a TSA plate in order to check if there was any bacteria still present in the
water. The previous methods were also performed concurrently with three identical amounts of water
from the city of Milwaukee tap water. This was done to account for any bacteria that could have
entered the water from the air, due to the open air beakers. The bacteria, if present on the TSA plates,
were then allowed to grow over several days, and the resulting bacteria colonies were then counted,
and purification levels were compared between the drinking water tablets and the treated city

The Song Ten Minutes Ago, Is From Rodgers And Hammerstein...
The song Ten Minutes Ago is from Rodgers and Hammerstein s Cinderella. A musical adaption of the
classic fairytale by the same name, it became a musical sensation when Richard Rodgers and Oscar
Hammerstein transformed it into a live musical television broadcast in 1957. Starring Julie Andrews, it
retold the fairytale of a young girl living a miserable life under the roof of her evil stepmother and her
three equally vicious stepsisters. With the Prince s Ball nearing, the four women in her family were
planning to go, leaving Cinderella at home on the night of the ball. When all hope seemed lost,
Cinderella s Fairy Godmother appears, granting her wishes by transforming her from rags to riches,
and giving her a pair of glass slippers. Cinderella was able to go to the ball unrecognized, under the
condition to be home by midnight, when the spell wore off. At the ball, she meets the prince and there
is immediately chemistry, but she rushes to leave before the clock strikes twelve, in fear of the prince
seeing her for who she really was and being disgusted by her true self. As she escapes the castle, she
loses one of her glass shoes on the steps of the castle. Leaving it behind, she makes it home without
being seen by anyone, and resumes her life as a poor girl being abused by her family. The next day,
the prince announces a search for Cinderella, not knowing her name or remembering her face. He
went around town and asked women to try on the glass shoe, believing that he would

Neurologist Research Paper
What Does a Neurologist Do?
Overview:
We all have experienced pain at some point in our lives. Most of the time, an aspirin will help alleviate
mild muscle aches and pains, and normally it takes care of the occasional headache. However, if other
symptoms accompany the pain like numbness, dizziness, fatigue, or if you are also having problems
with bowel or bladder control, your primary care physician may refer you to a neurologist. So just

This profession requires a considerable understanding of physiology and anatomy along with other
body systems such as the digestive and endocrine systems, respiratory, and the cardiovascular system.
All this in depth knowledge is needed because anything affecting these systems could have a direct
impact on brain function and lead to neurological disease.
A neurologist starts an evaluation of a patient with a neurological exam, assessing basic brain
functionality, and evaluates each of the patient s peripheral nerve groups. This investigation yields a
better understanding about the location of problems in the patient s central nervous system. Thanks to
modern day health care advances, and new technology, these neurologists no longer have to rely on
just their talents when identifying the cause and location of affected regions based solely on clinical
examinations.
So what does a neurologist do? They may encounter patients who suffer a severe speech impairment,
or seizures, some may even have lost their ability to move their limbs. These medical experts have the
ability to cope with the stress that their patients are experiencing, while remaining emotionally stable.
The ability to recognize small symptoms and details enable neurologists to treat disease in it s early
stages, and perhaps even save the patients

Parody In Medusa
The classical tradition in the medieval times has an articulate work of art should stand by itself
without the need of interpretation. As one literally scholar would state, the classical era states that
interpretation is ambiguous, and does not always prevail . Yet, now in our society, art s interpretation
can be one or all: a parody, an abstract, a pastiche, or non art. Pain and suffering constituted things
with which for him to identify. His own family had made a grueling transition from the war and
turmoil ravaged areas of Prussia (now Czech) Although many of his works have become instantly
recognizeable, famous in their own right, the distinct themes of the classical tradition s work have no
direct meaning. The classical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Gericault referenced a tragic, contemporary event in The Raft of Medusa from 1819, The classical
tradition referenced events at the very time they occurred (see 127 Die in Jet , Tunafish Disaster ) . For
him, the borderline between simulated time and actual time was blurry and often nonexistent. Whether
events, people and things were real or not became debatable However flip and casual his observations
may have been, their credence (in this light) cannot be denied. The act of parody had very nearly
become his denouemont, an all too shocking reality, as well as History. As such, The classical tradition
had left his mark for the ages. The term, under this tradition became the rise of the Avant Garde is seen
widely used in the field of visual art and literature. The term derives from the military term, advanced
guard or vanguard and it reflects this movement s role in art history as well. By nature, this movement
was meant to be controversial desiring to challenge the traditional art and the society as a whole. In
the realm of the arts world, works of the Avant Garde carried characteristics which represented
pushing of the boundaries of what is accepted as the norm as well as tearing down the status quo.
Began in 1850 in France, this movement led many artists to initiate works that are experimental,
innovative and unconventional. The three essential features of an

The Dangers Of Heroism In Robinson Crusoe
Robinson Crusoe is a novel about a traveler which places the main character as a hero, and when it
comes to heroism, the reader wants to believe that what he reads is real. Everybody is willing to forget
its own reality when it comes to dive into an art, no matter if we are talking about literary work,
painting or cinematographic masterpieces. We are willing to accept what we read as the truth and to
forget every illogical element that could disturb us from our escape from life. This is what these works
are made of: to alter reality. It is clearly impossible for a human being to survive this long on a desert
island, especially if we follow every step of Robinson s journey. Growing plants and taming animals
seems so easy, such as building our own house out of a wrecked ship that we reach by swimming. It is

We consider that we read a narrator and not an author. The author is always non existent when it
comes to believe a book. So, when we read Robinson Crusoe, we read Robinson s words and not
Defoe s words. But how do we feel about Defoe being a character in this rewriting? It is as painting
him back in the picture and making him a character since the beginning. It feels as if we are watching
a battle confronting Foe against Foe and making him the culprit of all the lying. And now that he is
nothing but a character that ended up writing a book where he is his own narrator, who is the first
narrator ever? We could actually thought about Suzan right away, since she is the main voice in Foe.
But when we focus a little more, she is nothing more than a silenced woman, pushed outside by a
canon of a male authorship . What could have been seen as a feminist book is taking a complete u
turn: Suzan, who is first represented as a strong woman surviving on an island and who is ready for
her story to be heard, ends up being manipulated by Foe who clearly makes her understand that he
knows everything better than she

Free Weights vs. Machines Weights Essay examples
Free Weights vs. Machines Weights
People have enjoyed working out for a long time. The going to the gym and working out trend is
gaining popularity every year. Right now working out is the rage. Health clubs are getting built and
remolded. There is still one question that the average working out Joe wants an answer for. Which is
better? Free weights or machine weights? Does it really matter?
When a person works out with free weights it is necessary for him to have a spotter (a person to watch
him in case he fails to lift the desired weight). The only time one could work out without a spotter is if
he/she is lifting extremely light/weights. Even this could be dangerous. No one I know recommends
lifting free weights ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is not one exercise that a person of larger size cannot do. All free weight equipment is open,
while machine equipment is in closed. Both machines and free weight benches can be adjusted to get
the proper angle one desires. There are two exercises that can only truly be done using free weights
and that is the parallel squat and power clean. There are a few weight machines that try to mimic the
squat but there is really no substitute. The squat is the king of all exercise. It builds thigh and hip
development and strengthens the lower back. It also strengthens all the tiny stabilizer muscles in the
body. The power clean is a full body exercise that strengthens and builds all the major muscles in the
body like shoulder, back, legs, and arms. There is a downfall of free weights. One has to pick them up
and return them to the tree (rack) after they are completed in their exercise routine. Using free
weights, a person will achieve greater mass than he would if he did the same exercise using machine
equipment. Free weights use the person s natural range of motion and strengthen their stabilizer
muscles. If one switches from machine weights to free weights they will notice that they will shake a
lot. Once that person becomes adjusted to the feel of free weights his stabilizer muscles will get
stronger and he/she won t shake as much if at all. An advantage of machine weight exercise is that
they give the ability to tone and allow a

  • 2. One Out Of Many By V. Naipaul The word culture means way of life of the people, thus the society, the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a group of people that differentiates them from another group of people. It is the overall attitude, customs and beliefs that distinguishes one culture from another. Culture is something that is actually transferred from one generation to another not through genes but through language, material objects, rituals that we daily perform, through institutions and through art and drama. For example greeting guests by kissing both cheeks with hugs and serving Arabian tea with dates is in Arab culture. In this essay I will be discussing about cultural encounters that have been shown in the literary works and specifically throwing light upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every experience I have ever had with motorcycles and dirt bikes has been a completely safe experience; at least, for those experiences that I can remember. I remember my mother telling me that when I was younger, probably around 3 4, my stepfather wanted to take me for a ride on his dirt bike. My mother was completely opposed to me being on such a dangerous thing, as many other people also believe. However, my stepdad convinced my mother to let him take me for a ride and it turned out I loved it! My parents say I came back laughing and smiling from the ride. • 4. The Effect Of Musical Noise Pro Duced By Ibm verberant mixture. In 16 a minimum mean square error (MMSE) based technique is planned to estimate the ideal multi threshold mask (IMM) that has been utilized in the realm of monaural speech improvement. It contains 2 stages, specifically training stage and enhancement stage. Within the training stage, a man made neural network is trained by exploitation the SNR of every T F unit of training information. Second stage uses the calculated SNR to estimate IMM and to separate the target speech from clamant signal. This analysis work proposes a method to scale back the impact of musical noise pro duced by IBM, by planning a soft mask which might be utilized in speech separation applications. Genetic algorithmic rule (GA) is employed during this work to search out the optimum soft mask weights between 0 and 1. the objective measures like S/N improvement and perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ) are used to measure the performance of planned optimum soft mask with the prevailing IBM 22 and IMM16 based speech separation systems. Rest of the paper is organized in the following manner. Section two provides an outline of computational auditory scene analysis (CASA). Section three presents the proposed optimum soft mask based speech separation system. Section four provides the experimental results of IBM, IMM and also the planned soft mask. Section five deals with the conclusion and future work. 2. Computational Auditory Scene Analysis (CASA) CASA can be defined as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Case Study Of Ant Colony Optimization 1.6 Ant Colony Optimization: 1.6.1 Introduction The conception of massive Gordian behavior emerging from the behavior of many relatively simple units, and the dealings with them, is fundamental to the field of Artificial Intelligence. The growing understanding of such systems offers the prospect of creating artificial systems which are controlled by such significant shared behavior; in particular, we believe that the sweating of this concept might lead to entirely new channels for the pilotage of distributed systems, such as load balancing in telecommunications networks. In such regimes, requests between any two points typically route through some central switching bureau or nodes in a big system; there are many future paths for each such call. It is thus viable to emancipate actual or potential local hurdles by routing requests via parts of the system which have extra capacity. Load balancing is essentially the creation of call routing schemes which successfully assign the changing load over the system and curtail lost requests. Of course, it is viable to determine the shortest routes from every node to every other node of the network. With the help of this mean utilization of nodes reduces, but this is not necessarily the drift way to avoid node congestion, as this has to do with how the vivisection of the traffic on the network. • 9. Global Drug Policy The global policy on drugs has one main concern, as maintained in the first clause of the 1961 UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs: promoting the health and welfare of mankind (United Nations, 1961). The convention and global drug policy actors have asserted through the years that drugs pose a threat to this concern, and so an integrated effort to reduce supply, demand and trafficking of said narcotics is the desired course of action (High Level segment Commission on Narcotic Drugs, 2009). It seems that this course of action became an end of itself instead of a mean to an end of health and welfare, as mounting evidence shows that the actions taken to achieve this have not only been ineffective in reducing supply, demand and trafficking; they have also created severe violations of human rights, alongside criminalization, a hazard to public health, and drug cartels which pose a very real threat to peace and security. Member states have not been oblivious to the fact that the measures taken have been counterproductive, and an increasing number of states are dissatisfied with the results of this policy (Doward, 2013). Some have addressed this by decriminalizing possession and use of drugs and introducing harm reduction programs, considering the issue of demand not a criminal issue but a public health one. The evidence in favor of such programs was acknowledged by international bodies such as WHO and UNODC, emphasizing that reducing demand should be done through means of ... • 11. Needs Hierarchy Theory of Motivation a. One of the most widely mentioned theories of motivation is the hierarchy of needs theory put forth by psychologist Abraham Maslow. He was known for establishing the theory of a hierarchy, writing that the needs of human beings can act as motivators when those very needs remain unsatisfied. In order to address a need of a higher level, the immediate lower level of need must be satisfied initially. Maslow s studied extensively exemplary people like Einstein, Roosevelt rather than mentally ill or neurotic people. This was in itself a radical deviation from the popular schools of psychology of his day, Freud and Skinner who saw little difference between animalistic and humane motivations. Maslow felt that Adler was really onto something when he proposed that these were at the roots of many, if not most, of our psychological problems. All of the preceding four levels he calls deficit needs, or D needs. If you don t have enough of something i.e. you have a deficit you feel the need. But if you get all you need, you feel nothing at all! In other words, they cease to be motivating. 5. Self Actualisation The highest need in Maslow s hierarchy is the need to truly become what one is capable of becoming, to maximize one s potential and to accomplish material manifestations of the promise of an individual. People who have everything can maximize their potential. They can seek knowledge, peace, esthetic experiences, self fulfillment, one ness with God, etc. In evaluating this need the individuals were characteristic of a certain criterion. A few were that These people were reality centered, which means they could differentiate what is fake and dishonest from what is real and genuine. They were problem centered, meaning they treated life s difficulties as problems demanding solutions, not as personal troubles to be railed at or surrendered to. • 12. Day Of The Dead ( Or All Hallows Eve The end of October and beginning of November two very different yet also seemingly similar celebrations take place. Halloween (or All Hallows Eve) is celebrated on October 31 in several countries including the USA. It has its roots in pagan celebrations for the end of the harvest season, various festivals of the dead, and the Celtic Samhain festival. Day of the Dead (or Dia de los Muertos) is a Mexican holiday, which is also celebrated in parts of Latin America and in the U.S., to remember and pray for family and friends who have died. It takes place on November 1. Neither of these holidays are religious in nature, but each holds their own unique set of symbols and traditions some of which go back hundreds of years. Both of these holidays are in place to bring the living closer to the dead and to connect the two realms. The origin of Dia De Los Muertos can be traced back to indigenous cultures in Mexico dating back 2,500 to 3,000 years. These cultures would hold annual rituals lasting one full month and would be purposed to celebrate, not mourn the dead. Though the reason for celebration is the same, the length is not. Instead of celebrating for a full month, today the celebration only lasts for a few days. During these few days families take the time to remember the deceased. The atmosphere is not somber however; it resembles more of a picnic or celebration. People visit the graves of the deceased at their respective cemeteries and build private altars. (Kaikati, 1985) Most items acquired to be sold at Ross are excess items from other stores that they could not sell, items that are not the latest fashion anymore, and sometimes some defective products that are not completely perfect but still useable. When these items are bought for Ross, they are generally bought in bulk for deep discounts. This then means that Ross does not always check what is in the bulk of clothes/products they are purchasing. There are times when these purchased products are not appropriate for example having offensive graphics on clothing or bad quality of apparel that may already be damaged. Although buying in bulk may be cheaper, it may result costly as well because if the company does receive items as the ones explained above, then they are obligated to discard the products immediately which results in a loss of profit. Under this statute, a police officer with probable cause believing that a driver has committed an alcohol related driving offense may require the driver to select and to complete either a blood test or a breath test. In this situation, two hours hadn t even passed since the officer knew of the incident, though possibly two hours from the Respondent driving. However, pursuant to Boom and Stumpf, as long as a request for the test is made within a reasonable time and the test occurs within two hours of that time, there should be no issue presented by these facts. In my opinion, the officer requested the test within a reasonable time from being dispatched to the scene, just over an hour after being dispatched. It is difficult to say with certainty based on these facts what occurred. While we do not need the law enforcement officer to be present at the hearing, see C.R.S. § 42 2 126(8)(a)(II), we do need the officer to submit all required documents and affidavit mandated by § 42 2 126(5)(a). Brewer v. Motor Vehicle Div., Dept. of Revenue, 720 P.2d 564, 568 (Colo. 1986). Therefore, in these circumstances I would rule to revoke Respondent s driver s license since his BAC was well over the legal limit of 0.08 and because the officer administered the test within a reasonable time. On stepping into the bedroom I found there was already a student who was making her bed, She was thin, short and black skinned. Her hair looked like a bundle of straw. Her dirty clothes and lusterless eyes clearly indicated that she had a long journey. Her clothes were made of cheap cloth. Her coat was too short, and the legs of her trousers were too loose. The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control As opponents against gun control have numerous reasons as to why guns should not be restricted amongst the American public but pointed to the Second Amendment to the United Constitution as the main reason why gun control should not be permitted in the U.S. However, what these critics do not want to accept is that since 1980, several crucial events in the United States have led to excessive gun control movement. Remarkably, it takes a lot more than one appalling catastrophe to influence Americans that more attention should be taken into monitoring the number and types of guns the public can get access to. However, some major shooting calamities in the U.S such as assassination attempts on President Reagan s, Columbine, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook have all triggered majority of Americans to take a stance in favor of gun control legislation. The first key push in the direction of the gun control movement begun during the era of Ronald Reagan presidency since he happened to be of one of the most pro gun presidents in American history. During the first few months of his presidency, a notorious assassination effort nearly terminated his life. Beloved is seen as the resemblance of Sethe s dead baby. Beloved is portrayed as a teenage girl, however she is different from other black teenager, ...and younger than her clothes suggested good lace at the throat, and a rich woman s hat. Her skin was flawless except for three vertical scratches on her forehead so fine and thin they seemed at first like hair, baby hair before it bloomed and roped into the masses of black yarn under her hat. (Morrison 62). Beloved unexpectedly came to 124, the house where Sethe, Denver, and Paul D lived. • 22. Mythology In Japanese Mythology Ancient civilizations have used various tactics, such as pictographs or writing systems, to document important events. However, only few civilizations have actually used mythology to write about the truth , one of them being the people of the ancient Japanese civilization. The truth is a representation of how each civilization views the beginning of the world and how it affects the civilization today. Although some parts of mythology seem outrageous and clearly not based on scientific fact, there are evidences that prove some events mentioned within mythologies have actually happened seen in present day Japan. Japanese mythologies have incorporated historical truth into their mythologies. This is important because understanding the past allows for cultural development in the future. Chris Kincaid, an accredited blogger on the Japan Powered website, states: Like all mythology, it was considered factually true and Truth through most of history (1). This means that the purpose of the mythologies, such as the Kojiki and Nihongi, was to report factual evidence while speculating how the world came to be. The use of mythology was a mechanism used as a means to engage the common man and help come up with explanations to things that were not proven by scientific fact. As long as the essential focus is on the recording of the political policies of the mythologies, then everything begins to align because of the apparent effects and evidences in the present day Japan. • 23. Iq Tests And Cultural Bias Essay #3: IQ Tests and Cultural Bias There was a cartoon showing different animals, including an elephant, fish, seal, and monkey, lined up by a tree in front of a man behind a desk. The man said he was going to make a fair selection by giving them all the same test. The test was that they all had to climb the tree. In this case, the monkey probably was the only one that thought the test was fair. Welcome to the controversy over IQ (Intelligent Quotient) tests and cultural diversity. In 1904, a French psychologist (Alfred Binet) created the first intelligence test in order to help the French Ministry of Education segregate children that may have difficulty learning in a regular classroom. At that time, he did not know that his test would be the basis for IQ tests administered over 100 years later. He has a Stanford University psychologist, Lewis Terman, to thank for expanding his work and creating the Stanford Binet intelligence test that took root in the United States in 1916 and is still popular today. However, along with its popularity came criticism. Critics see the current version of the Stanford Binet test and other intelligence tests, despite attempts to make them culturally fair, as limiting to individuals who are not from the major social norm. They claim that cultural bias in test questions is why certain races do not perform as well as others on the test. Psychologist Arthur Jensen stated the extent of the controversy best in the opening to his 1978 article, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They only judge based on their gender and do not take into account women s education, experience, or job related skills. Some argue that the only people who have put a limit to how far women can succeed in their career, are women themselves, but the Glass Ceiling and gender discrimination in the workforce does exist and is a major problem that needs to be addressed. In fact because of the Great Recession in 2008 2009 impacted the male dominated industries the most, but it helped the acceleration towards gender equality (Conley, Dalton, 2013). Now there are approximately the same amount of women and men working in the labor force. Actually for a brief time, women even exceeded men due to this economic crisis. Even though the US passed title VII of the 1964 civil rights act, which declared it unlawful for employers to discriminate on the basis of a person s race, nationality, creed, or sex , women faced harder predicaments that they had to push through. Women have to deal with hard situations like harassment, a legal form of discrimination , with things like dirty jokes, and sexual haggle, where they are threatened to provide sexual favors or in turn would receive punishment (Conley, Dalton, 2013). Even nearly 40 years after the Equal Pay Act (1963) was passed, discrepancy between women and men flourish in the working world. There was a study performed by the general accounting office in 2003 which found that women earned 79.7% of what men were earning. As such, if we were to compare this finding to the findings in 1983 when women earned 80.3% we can clearly see that this wage gap is in no way diminishing (Alkadry, M.G., Tower, L.E., 1). There have been attempts to rectify and fight the unequal pay based on gender inequality through legislation, regulation, and litigation (Alkadry, M.G., Tower, L.E., 1). The Equal Pay Act was based off of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the process of rectification depends greatly on trying to enforce these two lawsuits. Enkidu s death sent Gilgamesh on an adventure to fight death but he ultimately ended up learning his biggest lesson from Utnapishtim, the man who become immortal. He learns to appreciate life every day and that humans are meant to die. Utnapishtim tells him how fortunate he is to be 2/3 divine and 1/3 human, to be blessed, and to be king . He takes this information and starts to appreciate everything about his life and his kingdom. He understands that death is a part of life. This experience changed him for the better. From the beginning of the story of Gilgamesh to the end you can see a total transformation in this character. The strong and greedy king showed fear and vulnerability. The death of his brother and second half stirred up his restless heart and sent him on a journey to fight and overcome death. The lesson he learned though was to appreciate his life every day until he dies. He learned that death was a part of life. Gilgamesh has obvious flaws and goes through many struggles just as its readers do on a daily basis. Gilgamesh s vulnerability makes him easy to relate to. Modern American readers want a hero who s relatable and seems ordinary in their emotions and life. People change in life sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worst. In the case of Gilgamesh he changed for the better and become a better person. Readers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Water Purification Lab Abstract: The main objective of this lab was to determine how to effectively measure and compare bacteria in different water sources, specifically in this lab by using Coleman Drinking Water Purification Tablets. The tablets did not eliminate bacteria to the level found in tap water, however they were still very effective at eliminating bacteria. The tablets as a result can be trusted by the user to remove any unnecessary health risk when drinking water from an untreated source. That is why it is of the utmost important to check the effectiveness of a hiker s equipment. Water purification is the most important thing to have while out hiking in the backcountry. A real world scenario was the only way of being able to properly tell whether or not the Iodine tablets could be counted upon, when they are the only thing being used for water remediation. The lab procedure start by taking a river water sample from the Menomonee River, which was then separated into three 1L beakers which were then filled to the range of .95L to 1L. The water samples as is, were then swabbed for bacteria, and rubbed across a Tryptic Soy Agar plate (TSA), to facilitate growth of bacteria if any was present in the water. The water was then treated with the drinking water tablets per their instructions, and was then swabbed again for bacteria after the 35 minute mark. This second swab was then also streaked across a TSA plate in order to check if there was any bacteria still present in the water. The previous methods were also performed concurrently with three identical amounts of water from the city of Milwaukee tap water. This was done to account for any bacteria that could have entered the water from the air, due to the open air beakers. The bacteria, if present on the TSA plates, were then allowed to grow over several days, and the resulting bacteria colonies were then counted, and purification levels were compared between the drinking water tablets and the treated city ... All this in depth knowledge is needed because anything affecting these systems could have a direct impact on brain function and lead to neurological disease. A neurologist starts an evaluation of a patient with a neurological exam, assessing basic brain functionality, and evaluates each of the patient s peripheral nerve groups. This investigation yields a better understanding about the location of problems in the patient s central nervous system. Thanks to modern day health care advances, and new technology, these neurologists no longer have to rely on just their talents when identifying the cause and location of affected regions based solely on clinical examinations. So what does a neurologist do? They may encounter patients who suffer a severe speech impairment, or seizures, some may even have lost their ability to move their limbs. These medical experts have the ability to cope with the stress that their patients are experiencing, while remaining emotionally stable. • 45. Parody In Medusa The classical tradition in the medieval times has an articulate work of art should stand by itself without the need of interpretation. As one literally scholar would state, the classical era states that interpretation is ambiguous, and does not always prevail . Yet, now in our society, art s interpretation can be one or all: a parody, an abstract, a pastiche, or non art. Pain and suffering constituted things with which for him to identify. His own family had made a grueling transition from the war and turmoil ravaged areas of Prussia (now Czech) Although many of his works have become instantly recognizeable, famous in their own right, the distinct themes of the classical tradition s work have no direct meaning. As Gericault referenced a tragic, contemporary event in The Raft of Medusa from 1819, The classical tradition referenced events at the very time they occurred (see 127 Die in Jet , Tunafish Disaster ) . For him, the borderline between simulated time and actual time was blurry and often nonexistent. Whether events, people and things were real or not became debatable However flip and casual his observations may have been, their credence (in this light) cannot be denied. The act of parody had very nearly become his denouemont, an all too shocking reality, as well as History. As such, The classical tradition had left his mark for the ages. The term, under this tradition became the rise of the Avant Garde is seen widely used in the field of visual art and literature. The Dangers Of Heroism In Robinson Crusoe Robinson Crusoe is a novel about a traveler which places the main character as a hero, and when it comes to heroism, the reader wants to believe that what he reads is real. Everybody is willing to forget its own reality when it comes to dive into an art, no matter if we are talking about literary work, painting or cinematographic masterpieces. We are willing to accept what we read as the truth and to forget every illogical element that could disturb us from our escape from life. This is what these works are made of: to alter reality. We consider that we read a narrator and not an author. The author is always non existent when it comes to believe a book. So, when we read Robinson Crusoe, we read Robinson s words and not Defoe s words. But how do we feel about Defoe being a character in this rewriting? It is as painting him back in the picture and making him a character since the beginning. It feels as if we are watching a battle confronting Foe against Foe and making him the culprit of all the lying. And now that he is nothing but a character that ended up writing a book where he is his own narrator, who is the first narrator ever? We could actually thought about Suzan right away, since she is the main voice in Foe. But when we focus a little more, she is nothing more than a silenced woman, pushed outside by a canon of a male authorship . What could have been seen as a feminist book is taking a complete u turn: Suzan, who is first represented as a strong woman surviving on an island and who is ready for her story to be heard, ends up being manipulated by Foe who clearly makes her understand that he knows everything better than she ... The going to the gym and working out trend is gaining popularity every year. Right now working out is the rage. Health clubs are getting built and remolded. There is still one question that the average working out Joe wants an answer for. Which is better? Free weights or machine weights? Does it really matter? When a person works out with free weights it is necessary for him to have a spotter (a person to watch him in case he fails to lift the desired weight). The only time one could work out without a spotter is if he/she is lifting extremely light/weights. Even this could be dangerous. No one I know recommends lifting free weights ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is not one exercise that a person of larger size cannot do. All free weight equipment is open, while machine equipment is in closed. Both machines and free weight benches can be adjusted to get the proper angle one desires. There are two exercises that can only truly be done using free weights and that is the parallel squat and power clean. There are a few weight machines that try to mimic the squat but there is really no substitute. The squat is the king of all exercise. It builds thigh and hip development and strengthens the lower back. It also strengthens all the tiny stabilizer muscles in the body. The power clean is a full body exercise that strengthens and builds all the major muscles in the body like shoulder, back, legs, and arms. There is a downfall of free weights. One has to pick them up and return them to the tree (rack) after they are completed in their exercise routine. Using free weights, a person will achieve greater mass than he would if he did the same exercise using machine equipment. Free weights use the person s natural range of motion and strengthen their stabilizer muscles. If one switches from machine weights to free weights they will notice that they will shake a lot. Once that person becomes adjusted to the feel of free weights his stabilizer muscles will get stronger and he/she won t shake as much if at all. An advantage of machine weight exercise is that they give the ability to tone and allow a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
