The Successes of Progressive Era Reformers
The Successes of Progressive Era Reformers
The Progressive movement was very influential in many ways to early twentieth century America.
Businesses became safer, and much more respectful towards their employees. Society accepted moral
changes, and became safer communities. The government was affected by the Progressive movement
becoming much more democratic, and caring more for the needs of its people. The Progressive
movement was successful in reforming American business, society and its government policies in
many different instances. The Progressive movement was based mainly on the improvement of human
nature and businesses were treating many workers badly. Many muckrakers worked to end the terrible
conditions that many workers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Progressives knew of the terrible conditions that many laborers were going through in factories and
workplaces across America, and they rose up to the challenge of fighting against them. While
Progressives reformers worked for change in many different areas, the improvement of society was
one of their most important goals. In terms of society, Progressive reformers wanted to focus on three
specific areas. These areas were education, sanitation in tenements or housing, and conservation of the
environment (heritage.org). Progressives wanted education to be based on hands on learning, and that
experience is the best teacher (Hayes). John Dewey and some others created a form of Progressive
education that was based on teaching young kids how to live along with other knowledge (Hayes).
Sanitation for many of the crowded tenements in urban areas was lacking (Caswell). Muckraker Jacob
Riis looked to change this and with the publishing of his book How the Other Half Lives (1890), New
York and some other states began to pass building safety codes such as the New York State Tenement
Housing Act (Caswell). The conservation movement that commenced because of the Progressive party
would not have been successful without Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt and John Muir together were
able to alter the public s view of American lands (memory.loc.gov). Roosevelt worked together with
Congress to pass many acts that preserved America s beauty such as the American Antiquities Act

Ultraviolet Radiation Cause And Effect Essay
ESL 099W Writing Reading
Cliff Ishida, Cause Effect Essay, August 9, 2017
The effects of ultraviolet radiation are the cause of eye disease
The twenty first century is the century of developing everything on this planet, which has been
developed by the human. While humans were developing their house, doing activities, using
transportation, structuring manufacturing industry, burning the fuel and cutting the tree, these
activities bring toxins into the atmosphere and destroyed the ozone. Depletion of ozone in the
stratosphere are thought to lead to increased levels of ultraviolet radiation on earth (1), all of which
there are three types of ultraviolet radiation as UV A, UV B and UV C. Types of ultraviolet radiation
are dangerous to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pinguecula and pterygium are more common in middle aged or older people who spend a lot of time
in the sun. These diseases can avoid risk factors and treatment by wearing sunglasses, wearing a hat or
using an umbrella. Using artificial tears in people who have eye irritation can help relieve irritation
and improve the eye comfort. The patients who have a tissue cover into the pupil will need eye
surgery.
Furthermore, another part of the eye affected by ultraviolet radiation is the lens and the eye disease in
this part is a cataract, which cataract disease is caused by degeneration of the lens and symptoms with
a blurred vision as a fog, hindering the light to pass into the eyes and the optic nerves are fully. The
treatment of cataract disease is surgery to remove the Natural lens and then insert the intraocular lens
to replace, also after cataract surgery, patients should take care of themselves, eat a healthy meal and
the most important thing is to avoid sunlight.
The parts of conjunctiva and lens, there is also the part of the retina that affected by ultraviolet
radiation. This part of the eye is the most severe disease from ultraviolet effect and this part has the
age related macular degeneration (AMD) disease, which AMD is a problem with a part of the retina
called the macula. This

Apartheid and The Future of South Africa in Cry, The...
Arthur, Napoleon, and Msimangu, all characters from Alan Paton s book, Cry, The Beloved Country,
are used to share Paton s points of view on the future of South Africa and the apartheid. Paton uses
these characters to represent specific views; Arthur expresses clearly that the apartheid isn t the right
way to progress as a country, Napoleon exemplifies how Paton thinks people should take the anti
apartheid effort, and Msimangu explicitly expresses Paton s ideas of an ideal leader. Arthur Jarvis was
the son of James Jarvis, an activist for the causes he believed in, and very well liked in the community.
This made him perfect to voice blame; Arthur Jarvis first passage in the book describes the issues that

Napoleon Letsisi, a man hired by James Jarvis to teach the people of Ndotsheni proper farming
techniques, is described by the author as a good man (Paton 285). Although being one of the last
characters introduced in the book, he has one of the stronger voices in the book, with his views and
attitudes taken towards others. By displaying Napoleon as an educated good man, Paton shows the
value of these characteristics for the future of South Africa. Napoleon s attitude towards the apartheid
is that it happened because of everyone. Umfundisi, it was the white man who gave us so little land, it
was the white man who took us away from the land to go to work. And we were ignorant also. It is all
these things together that have made this valley desolate. Therefore, what this good white man does is
only a repayment (Paton 302). On the same page as the previous quote, Napoleon says that he does his
work not for his patron, but for his people and country (Paton 302). Both the quote and the reference
help frame the way Paton portrays the people s point of view. The first quote shows that in Paton s
eyes, the people thought that the white man is what led to the problems for the people. This is further
supported by Arthur Jarvis passage, where he points out that the white population has evaded the
issues at hand instead of tackling them (Paton 179). The reference of what Napoleon

Analysis Of Kurt Vonnegut s The Monkey House
Kurt Vonnegut is known for his dark humor, wit, and imagination. He is consistently listed among the
great American authors of the later twentieth century and his novel s such as Cat s Cradle and
Slaughterhouse Five are considered modern classics. In this essay, I will focus on two of Vonnegut s
short stories Welcome to the Monkey House (1968) which takes place in a dystopian future where
everyone is required to take pills that take all the pleasure out of sex and Miss Temptation (1959)
which takes place in a small east coast town by looking at them through a feminist lense. Both stories

harmful but they come to this conclusion in very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Nancy counters this with you certainly manage to make a woman feel like an object rather than

lessons that Billy teaches Nancy, that the pills are bad and somehow making her less of a woman.
However, what it really suggests is that a woman isn t worth listening to if her sexuality isn t involved.
Once Nancy reaches Billy s hideout, other women are more than happy to assist him in raping her. It is
later revealed that all of these other women were also once raped by Billy but have now they
understand and they re grateful. The fact that these victims would not only be happy to assist their
rapist and kidnapper but also are described as almost worshipping him seems to suggest more of a
Stockholm syndrome situation instead of one where Billy has saved them. Billy obviously holds the
power within his gang and these women are willing to do whatever it takes to help him rape other
women. The idea that all these women needed to become grateful was to be forcefully deflowered by
Billy perpetuates the patriarchal idea that women need to be introduced (often forcefully) to their own

Canyon Descriptive Writing
It was 1 hour before dawn. The thick gloomy grey blanket rolled through the towering canyon. The
canyon walls loomed overhead as the razor blade ridges were sticking out. At the far end of the dark
misty canyon is where the wall rose. The high reaching wall outstretched the length of the canyon
leaving an impenetrable metal wall. A slight breeze whirled through the bottom of the treacherous
canyon lifting the smell of the rotting dead. The screeching screams and shrieks of the savage demons
were heard from the far.
On top of the wall, the nervous army scattered around trying to get in position. Grabbing their
weapons and clutching them till their hands went white with fear. They could hear the screeching
screams of the demons hiding behind

Physician Remuneration Case Study
In 2010 11, Ontario spent, 40.3% of its total spending on healthcare programs and it was determined
that if left unchecked this trend would expand to more than 44% by 2017 18 (Drummond, 2012).
Physician remuneration accounts for the third largest share of health dollars (15.5%), behind only
pharmaceuticals (15.7%) and hospitals (29.5%) (Canadian Institute for Health Information, 2015).
These three categories are by far the largest single categories of expenditure and when combined
represent 60% of total health spending. Furthermore it is important to note that the growth rate of
physician expenditure (2.2%) has outpaced that of hospitals or drugs since 2007 (Canadian Institute
for Health Information, 2015). Due to the pressing nature of ballooning ... Show more content on

In this case the principle is the government, which has an objective of maximizing the health care of
Ontario while also efficiently utilizing resources to keep costs low. However the government
(principle) cannot achieve this on its own and need physicians (the agent) to carry out the task related
to health improvement. The government aims to motivate physician through financial incentives to
improve health, nonetheless physicians are always striving to increase their own utility via higher
income, which occurs as a direct result of patients visits to the physician which is higher when the
population is unhealthy. This represents an endless cycle of repetition, where the government wishes
to improve health status but the intrinsic value of physician remuneration is a direct result of the lack
of health in the population. This results in the fee for service model being both technically inefficient
and costly since physicians have a financial incentive to over utilize resources such as conducting
exams that may not necessarily be needed. Furthermore due to the nature of Universal health care
patients also have also a tendency to over utilize health services, as individuals do not personally incur
costs for accessing health services. This leads to the expressed demand curve of health care being
higher than it should if it were solely based on necessity (Figure 1). Each extra unnecessary access of
healthcare provides diminishing marginal benefit in large part due to opportunity cost. If a patient did
not access said health care their time could have gone towards a different activity that has a higher
marginal benefit. As a result true marginal social benefit is lower than modeled and utility decreases
overall as the public healthcare model and fee for service model for physicians results in over
utilization regardless of the

Explain Why Some Presenters Avoid Eye Contact
Why do some presenters avoid eye contact? How does that make you feel as an audience member?
Some presenters avoid making eye contact during their presentation because of the following reasons:
Presenters who don t know their content avoid eye contact because they lack confidence that they can
deliver their speech successfully. They feel nervous for not being fully prepared and any negative
reaction from the audience will make them feel more uneasy.
Presenters who memorize their presentation avoid eye contact because they don t like to see any
negative expressions from the audience that might make them lose focus and forget what they are
about to say. Staring at the ceiling or wall helps them to concentrate and remembers what they need

Spoken Identity In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night
Twelfth Night is riddled with numerous cases of disguise, deception, and mistaken identity which
helps shape the play because with none of these three things there is no Twelfth Night. It adds to the
plentiful cases of humor in the play as well as affecting the other themes like love. The mistaken
identities and disguises help entangle the love of each of the characters into a mess that doesn t clearly
resolve itself until the end when they all finally try to shed those disguises; for example, when Cesario
reveals that he is actually a woman named Viola.
The main disguise that the play centers around is this disguise of Viola while she serves the Lord
Orsino. This deception ends up turning on Viola as the women Orsino sent her to court ... Show more

Malvolio pleads that he is not insane. This leads to a hilarious conversation between Feste and
Malvolio because Feste uses wordplay to make a fool out of Malvolio. Feste then sheds his disguise

there, Feste changes his voice repeatedly and fakes a conversation between himself and the priest.
Malvolio is deceived into thinking there are two people. This further adds to the humor of the play
because the audience knows what Malvolio does not; it is ironic that Malvolio calls out fool
repeatedly when he himself is the one being made look like a fool. The real fool, Feste, is often
scorned for being in the profession of a fool, but that is deceitful because he is often one of the wisest
characters in the play. One example of his wistfulness is when he spars against Olivia with words
when she is mourning her brother. He tries to ask why she is sad when she thinks her brother is in

Benefits Of A Good Dentist
When I was six years old, I needed to have a tooth pulled. The dentist had my father leave the room,

black anesthesia mask over my face with the other. I woke up with a mouth full of bloody gauze and
an intense fear of dentists. For many people, finding a good dentist is a hard task because of past bad
experiences. I often tell people that I d rather give birth than go to the dentist. Since I have seven kids,
born naturally, I know from which I speak. I also know that it is possible to find a great dentist, and

Examples Of Blockbuster
Theory 3
There are some routes and paths that must not be taken. There are some armies and troops that must
not be assaulted. Although some of the routes and paths may looks advantageous to us, it should not
be taken lightly. This is because there might be some ambushes that cannot be found or detected
easily. If the decision is not made cautiously, troubles or loss may be incurred instead of gaining the
desired advantages. In other words, do not judge a book by its cover. Besides that, something that
seems like a benefit may be also a trap set by the enemy or competitor. If someone walks into the trap
looking for benefit, then his or her benefit could be taken away instead. This theory was applied by
Blockbuster, which was once a very popular video rental company. The Chief Executive Officer of
Blockbuster, Jim Keyes, was interested in enhancing their retail business by purchasing Circuit City,
an electronic retailer company (Eaton, 2008). Therefore, he made an offer to ... Show more content on

history of social engineering. Some places where social engineering could be applied and who gets

can help many companies protect themselves from hackers.
Social engineering is a mix of science, psychology and art(1). Social engineering is any act that

Nowadays we use social engineering for many proposes including computer policies and many other
situations. As technology advances everyday new vulnerabilities arises all the time. In computer word
we have many vulnerabilities where social engineering can be applied. Take baiting for instance, an
attacker leaves a malware on a device, such as USB flash drive in a place he or she knows that it will
be found. When found and picked up the device the finder would load it into their computer,
accidently installing the malware. Furthermore, Baiting is one of many ways social engineering used.
Phishing on the other hand is another way social engineering is used. Where a hacker sends a
fraudulent email to pose as a legitimate email from a trusted source. When the receiver opens the

the recipient to click on link that installs malware. Also Pretexting is another type of social
engineering where someone lies to another person to gain access to their private data. When you get a

Creams and Custard Recipes
Crème Anglaise
Crème Anglaise is made of egg yolks, sugar and milk (or combination of milk and cream). It is usually
flavored with vanilla pod or natural vanilla extract, but it can be aromatized with chocolate, liqueurs,
nuts or spices.
Crème Anglaise
Yield: 350 g
Milk 250 g
Sugar 75 g
Egg yolks 80 g
Vanilla pod
Put milk, half of sugar and split vanilla pod in a saucepan and put on a stove.
Blanch egg yolks and rest of the sugar.
When milk and sugar is hot, around 80°C, pour some of the hot liquid over egg yolks and stir well.
This procedure is called tempering.
Pour the milk and yolk mixture to the pan and put it all back on stove. Cook stirring constantly until
cream reaches 84°C. You can use thermometer to determine the temperature or you can make a test
with a wooden spoon. When you coat the back of a spoon and go with your finger along. If the cream
doesn t run through the line, it has right consistency. It should be a little bit thicker than milk and it
shouldn t contain any visible specs.
Be careful not to overcook the cream because the yolks will curdle and you will not be able to fix that.
When it is done, strain through a sieve and cool.
Crème Chantilly
Crème Chantilly is simply lightly whipped cream flavored with a little bit of sugar and vanilla.

2.1.7.3.3. Azone and derivatives: Azone (laurocapram, Figure 5) is a highly lipophilic liquid with an
octanol/water partition coefficient of 6.21. It is a chemically stable compound and an excellent solvent
for many drugs. Azone has a low irritating potential, a very low toxicity and nearly no
pharmacological activity (56, 58). It can be used as penetration enhancers for hydrophilic and
lipophilic substances such as steroids, antibiotics and antiviral agents and for peptide molecules as
well, such as insulin and vasopressin (58). The efficacy of Azone is concentration dependent and is
influenced by the choice of vehicle from which it is applied. Azone is most effective at low

To overcome this issue, many Azone like compounds have been synthesized (55). Modification in the
structure of Azone includes change in: a) The optimal hydrocarbon chain length The enhancement
activities increased as the length of the hydrophobic chains increased, but when the length of the chain
was longer than a certain limit, the activities rather decreased. The optimal hydrocarbon chain length
was between 8 and 14 carbons, which would vary according to their different polar heads. The action
of an enhancer was dependent on the balance between its hydrophilic and lipophilic nature, and
therefore different length of alkyl chain was required for best incorporation of the enhancer with
different polar heads into the skin lipid bilayers (60). b) Heterocyclic ring size The presence of five
member cycle increased the activity, while six and seven member cycle exhibited lower activity.
Azone analogs with a small polar head might be expected to be situated well into the polar lipid
domain, thus disrupting the ordered organization of the lipid layers (61). c) The heteroatoms in the

Trull Mr. Moore Physical Science L1 Research Paper: Newton s Laws of Motion 22 October 2015
Newton s 3 Laws of Motion Isaac Newton was a physicist and mathematician of the 17th century.
Newton developed the principles of modern physics. He created the three laws of motion popular in
the world of science and our daily lives ( Issac Newton Biography ). Newton s first law states that an
object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by another
force. The second law states acceleration occurs when a force acts on an object. The higher the mass
the more force needed. And ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Your hand creates a new force, which makes the first two unbalanced. Or if say your dog knocked the
cup off the surface, it would also be disrupting the forces. Anything that is a new force and comes in
contact with it will unbalance it. A second example of this first law is another everyday object, a car.
However this one is actually creating a force, not just being controlled by them. When a car is moving
down a road it is pushing against the road and the road is also pushing it back. If the driver keeps their
foot on the gas pedal it will keep the forces balanced ( Newton s First Law of Motion: Examples of the
Effect of Force on Motion ). However, if something comes in contact with the car, like a tree, it will
unbalance the forces currently on the car and the car will stop moving. For the final example imagine
you re playing a game of bowling with a bunch of your friends. The bowling ball shows an example of
Newton s first law. By throwing the ball you are putting forces on it when it begins to roll. It is being
pushed down the lane and pushing against the lane. A rolling ball will keep rolling until it hits

Logical Fallacies In Nursing Career
Logical Fallacies A person who succeeded in his career most of the time convinces others to follow
the same direction as him. In fact, my aunt Nancy persuaded me to pursue a nursing career by using
one logical fallacy. She convinces me that nursing job is the best job ever in the world. However, she
persuades me that they are different opportunities in the field. Nevertheless, my aunt Nancy persuades
me by using reasoning and supports ideas about nursing job. My aunt Nancy is a registered nurse and
she always tries to convince me to follow her in the same career because she is pretty sure that it is the
best chose. She is the happiest person in the world when helping people or saving somebody life. After

Racial Barriers in Grace Paley s Short Story Samuel Essay
Racial Barriers in Grace Paley s Short Story Samuel
It is hard to distinguish the difference between which race is more important. One might ask
themselves if white is superior over colored skin. There have been numerous struggles and much
success in the fight towards equality between the races. Although many large steps have been made,
there are still existing racial barriers. One particular struggle is whether or not people of different races
should interact with each other. Should Caucasian adults interact with young children of color? A
question that becomes especially critical when children are putting themselves in potentially
dangerous situations. This moral debate is portrayed in Grace Paley s short story, Samuel. ... Show

In the short story, Two men and others looked at the four boys jumping and jiggling on the platform
and thought, It must be fun to ride that way (191). Men normally have influence to control dangerous
situations and instead of using this power to persuade the boys to come into a safe place, they allow
the children to continue to endanger their lives. The women on the train became very angry when they
look at the four boys. Most of them brought their brows together hoping the boys would see their
extreme disapproval (191).
In the story, one woman in the subway car saw that three of the boys were Negroes and the fourth was
something else she couldn t tell for sure. She was afraid that they would be fresh and laugh at her and
embarrass her (191). It seems that the women are scared of even confronting the barrier that separates
her from the children. The racial wall is so intimidating to the women that all they could do is sit and
watch the young boys in fear of their safety.
As time passed, the racial begun to slowly deteriorate. Sometimes, motherly instincts will overcome
anything, and in this case it is to persuade the women to stand up to the children. The lady who was
afraid of embarrassment saw the boys jerk forward and backwards and grab the swinging guard
chains...She stood up with determination and went to the door (191). Allowing her maternal

Oxidative Coupling Of Alkyne Lab Report
Oxidative coupling of alkynes using the Glaser Eglinton Hay reaction
CH203 02
Fadwa Mekkaoui
Introduction/Procedure:
Oxidative coupling of alkynes is a method in which an oxidizing agent is used to eliminate a hydrogen
from an alkene, causing a carbon carbon bond to be made. A catalyst is used in order to speed up a
reaction by lowering the activation energy. The solvent used is 2 proponal and a chelating reagent,
tetramethylethylenediamine (TMEDA), is used to help CuCl dissolve in solvent. The experiment uses
techniques such as recrystallization, TLC, and infrared spectroscopy. This experiment is incredibly
green, since air is used as an oxygen resource and has no cost. CuCl is used a catalyst and a green
solvent, 2 propanol, is also used as a reaction medium which is a greener solvent.

the color went from a navy to a light blue with a tint of green. When the temperature was around 100

crystals had a slightly green tint until they were properly washed with distilled water. A TLC was run
using the starting material and rxn. The product was massed and a melting point was determined. The
range for the meting point was given to be (174° 176°C) and the value obtained for the product was a

How The Society Perceives Individuals With Parkinson s...
How The Society Perceives Individuals with Parkinson s Disease
Imagine walking on a sidewalk, witnessing a group of people mimicking a homeless man with shaky
hands and face, what would be the right thing to do? Individuals with disabilities get discriminated
and labeled as stupid; they become a laughing stock to ignorant people. To make matters worse, many
stand up comedians and television directors find disability (particularly Parkinson s disease) a very
effective way to make the crowd laugh.
Parkinson Disease s (PD) is defined as progressive loss of pigmented neurons or cells in the substantia
nigra of the brain. These cells manufacture the molecule dopamine, a chemical responsible for
regulating purposeful movements. Moreover, when the dopamine level in the brain depletes by 80
percent, the patient will begin experiencing symptoms of PD. Genetics also play a vital role in
Parkinson s development mutations in the Leucine Repeat Kinase 2 are its greatest contributors.
Furthermore, dopamine levels progressively drop in patients with the disease; therefore, their
symptoms gradually become severe as they age. Parkinson s symptoms are categorized into primary,
secondary, motor, and nonmotor. (Fallon Cataldo, 2013)
One primary symptom of PD is pill rolling tremor this movement resembles rolling a pill between the
thumb and the forefinger. This is also referred to as resting tremor, where the shaking typically starts
from one finger and appears when the client s

Academic Performance Action Plan Essay
Action Plan Academic Performance Action Plan My academic performance goal for my Senior year is
to maintain a GPA of 3.5. To achieve that, I have determined myself to achieve as minimum grades,
two B+ and three A for this semester and for Spring and Fall of 2017. So far, I have performed quite
well on my exams and projects this semester. However, on one class I barely passed my first exam
with a 70 even though I felt I was prepared to obtain a much better grade. Therefore, to achieve my
goal of maintaining a GPA of 3.5, I m tasked with preparing one week in advance for the exams on
this particular course to achieve at least a final grade of B. In addition to that, I found that completing
the assignments even a month before they were due helped me clear my schedule and allowed me
more time to do research on internship opportunities. To determine if I have achieved a significative
progress in maintaining a GPA above 3.5, I will join Beta Gamma Sigma on Spring 2017 and remain
part of it until I graduate. In addition, I ll change my studying technique for exams and prepare a week
prior to the tests. I will be able to determine the effectiveness of such technique if I m able to obtain at
least an 80 on the second exam for the course I m having difficulty with this semester. For next year, I
will also apply the same approach of completing assignments a month before to clear up my schedule
and focus time on improving my performance on the courses I could be struggling with.

Compare And Contrast Essay On Xbox Vs Ps4

Xbox vs. PlayStation The Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 are the most popular gaming systems in
today s market. Sony and Microsoft try everything to meet the needs of the consumer and get people
to buy their product. In doing so they design them to meet today s society while also staying fairly
similar with the previous models. Since the hardware is very similar, the accessories and add ons play
a huge role in determining if the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 is superior. The Xbox one is a sleek and
very nice looking console designed to impress the buyer with its shiny gloss black finish and touch
screen buttons to make it easier to operate. The Xbox One controller was completely redesigned ...

They are much more reactive and have a lot better processors. The consoles are well equipped with
great storage and can hold plenty of content. The PlayStation is known to have a more comfortable
controller with a smaller and skinnier design to better fit the player and make it a more enjoyable
experience. Sony improved the thumb sticks so that they don t touch while playing, the triggers have
an inward curve unlike the previous outward curve on the PS3, and the thumb sticks have a concave
surface for more comfort (www.ign.com). The play station has wireless rechargeable controllers and is
compatible with hdmi for more vivid picture and shapes. They are both excellent gaming consoles but
are so complex that they have many differences. The biggest advantage of a PlayStation is that it can
play Blu ray movies, it has a 500GB hard drive, and it is $400, which is $100 cheaper than the Xbox
(Best Buy). The Xbox one also has the features of Blu ray and a 500GB hard drive, however it cannot
connect to a mobile device while playing a game unlike the PlayStation (www.ign.com). Consumers
rated the PlayStation 4.7 out of 5 stars and the Xbox received a 4.6 which is very close considering the

The Bonneville Power Administration ( Bpa ) Service Territory
BACKGROUND
The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) service territory is in the Pacific Northwest. In 1937,
BPA was established to construct facilities required to market and transmit electric power from the
Bonneville Dam located on the Columbia River and to construct facilities necessary to transmit that
power. BPAs mandate has been expanded to be the marketing agent for power from all of the federally
owned hydroelectric projects in the Pacific Northwest, as one of four regional Federal power
marketing agencies within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
BONNEVILLE POWER ADMINISTRATION
BPA, a power marketing agency of the United States Department of Energy (DOE), supplies roughly
half of the electricity used in the Pacific Northwest. The power that BPA markets comes primarily
from 31 Federal hydroelectric projects (known collectively as the Federal Columbia River Power
System, or FCRPS), and one non federal nuclear plant. BPA is a co manager of the Federal
hydroelectric projects, but it does not own or operate them. Such responsibilities belong to the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Bureau). For the purpose of
this case study, Bureau of Reclamation owns and operates the dams and the Army Corps of Engineers
builds and maintains the dams.
BPA does own and operate about three quarters of the Region s high voltage electric transmission grid.
BPA also promotes conservation and purchases power from several privately owned renewable

Organic Farming Chapter Summary
This chapter was about the struggle of living with locally grown food and cloth diapers. Colin Beavan
got in touch with some foodies and asked what they did for eating environmentally conscience. And
Colin and his wife found other activities to do during their normal TV time, like preparing ingredients
for their meals and spending time with their friends. Colin even went as far as to visit the farm that he
gets his milk from just to see if the farmer s ideals lined up with his.
This chapter brought up a good point about the antibiotics regulations for organic farming. As
someone who was once a member of 4 H if you are planning on raising market animals the healthier
the animal is the better. So when the USDA set the no antibiotics standard for market animals to be
considered organic is unrealistic because in order to have a shot at raising healthy animals they need to
get shots to keep them from getting sick. And this doesn t just apply to 4 H, it applies to commercial
farms too and that s why some of them treat their animals so badly. Commercial farms try to follow
the USDA rules but aren t making enough money to keep their animals healthy so when they get sick
the animals are hurriedly pushed to get well without the use of vet care, because that s money that they
could use to buy more animals instead of trying to care for the ones they have. This doesn t condone
the methods the commercial farms use but it is easier to care for the animals better when you are a 4 H
er and raising 1 3 animals per year as opposed to a factory farm raising 60 70 animals per year.

unites Canadians and mobilizes them in pursuit of common goals could be the Olympic hockey

Canadians have different views on the best NHL team, one thing most Canadians can agree on is the
support of the Canadian Hockey Team.
9. Deepa Mehta is critical of popular culture that represents India as either a begging bowl or spiritual
wonderland, yet some critics have said that she does the same thing in her films. From what you know
of her films, in what ways could Mehta be seen as guilty of representing only a begging bowl or
spiritual wonderland version of India?
Deepa Mehta s films show India the way she believes depicts the true India, and not the India that
westerners believe is a begging bowl or a spiritual wonderland. Although she attempts to create films
that do not show India for those two conceptions, in her films it is clear that these conceptions are
somewhat relevant in India. Although her films show these aspects, she does not dwell on them as
negatives or conclude that this is all India has to offer, as some films that are westernized tend to do.

Increasing productivity allows more passengers to be served with the same level of resources; saving
the agency money. Third, the cost pressure has led to reduced focus on regulatory compliance, which
has opened the door to the use of non traditional service providers, such as taxis, Uber, and Lyft to
minimize capital and operating costs.
The table below illustrates the transformation taking place in the industry. The market is moving away
from dedicated vehicles and to a fully brokered type service using non dedicated vehicles and non

Bookmaker Analysis
As a punter, you have no doubt come to realize that your bookmaker s website is like a tool of the
trade with your bookmaker being a facilitator. Your relationship with them is important because you
are counting on them to provide you with the opportunity to wager on sports and horses at your
convenience. You are also counting on them to be honest and forthright with your bankroll, which
includes filling your withdraw requests without hassle. Given the importance of this relationship, it is
incumbent on you as the punter to make sure you find an online bookmaker that is capable of meeting
your expectations. That raises the question: How should you go about choosing a bookmaker? The

Bonuses and Promotions With literally hundreds of bookmakers operating online, the industry has
become ultra competitive, bordering on cutthroat. The only way for them to beat the competition for
new customers is through the use of bonus offers. If you have identified several bookmakers that score
high in the three areas listed above, you owe it to yourself to let a site s bonuses and promotions
become the deciding factor. You should note there are two things to consider when evaluating a bonus
or promotion, the monetary value and the terms and conditions. A lucrative offer can be rendered
worthless if the terms and conditions are so restrictive that actually winning money becomes near
impossible. You should focus on bookmaker sites that offer plenty of decent promotions with
reasonable terms and conditions. An online bookmaker like ComeOn Casino has the kinds of promos
you should put under consideration. Unfortunately, the online gaming industry is full of unscrupulous
bookmakers that won t hesitate to take your money and run. It is incumbent on you to do the proper
due diligence in order to avoid hassles and make sure you have a great punting

  • 2. The Successes of Progressive Era Reformers The Successes of Progressive Era Reformers The Progressive movement was very influential in many ways to early twentieth century America. Businesses became safer, and much more respectful towards their employees. Society accepted moral changes, and became safer communities. The government was affected by the Progressive movement becoming much more democratic, and caring more for the needs of its people. The Progressive movement was successful in reforming American business, society and its government policies in many different instances. The Progressive movement was based mainly on the improvement of human nature and businesses were treating many workers badly. Progressives knew of the terrible conditions that many laborers were going through in factories and workplaces across America, and they rose up to the challenge of fighting against them. While Progressives reformers worked for change in many different areas, the improvement of society was one of their most important goals. In terms of society, Progressive reformers wanted to focus on three specific areas. These areas were education, sanitation in tenements or housing, and conservation of the environment (heritage.org). Progressives wanted education to be based on hands on learning, and that experience is the best teacher (Hayes). John Dewey and some others created a form of Progressive education that was based on teaching young kids how to live along with other knowledge (Hayes). Sanitation for many of the crowded tenements in urban areas was lacking (Caswell). Muckraker Jacob Riis looked to change this and with the publishing of his book How the Other Half Lives (1890), New York and some other states began to pass building safety codes such as the New York State Tenement Housing Act (Caswell). The conservation movement that commenced because of the Progressive party would not have been successful without Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt and John Muir together were able to alter the public s view of American lands (memory.loc.gov). Roosevelt worked together with Congress to pass many acts that preserved America s beauty such as the American Antiquities Act ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Apartheid and The Future of South Africa in Cry, The... Arthur, Napoleon, and Msimangu, all characters from Alan Paton s book, Cry, The Beloved Country, are used to share Paton s points of view on the future of South Africa and the apartheid. Paton uses these characters to represent specific views; Arthur expresses clearly that the apartheid isn t the right way to progress as a country, Napoleon exemplifies how Paton thinks people should take the anti apartheid effort, and Msimangu explicitly expresses Paton s ideas of an ideal leader. Arthur Jarvis was the son of James Jarvis, an activist for the causes he believed in, and very well liked in the community. This made him perfect to voice blame; Arthur Jarvis first passage in the book describes the issues that the exploitation of the natives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Napoleon Letsisi, a man hired by James Jarvis to teach the people of Ndotsheni proper farming techniques, is described by the author as a good man (Paton 285). Although being one of the last characters introduced in the book, he has one of the stronger voices in the book, with his views and attitudes taken towards others. By displaying Napoleon as an educated good man, Paton shows the value of these characteristics for the future of South Africa. Napoleon s attitude towards the apartheid is that it happened because of everyone. Umfundisi, it was the white man who gave us so little land, it was the white man who took us away from the land to go to work. And we were ignorant also. It is all these things together that have made this valley desolate. Therefore, what this good white man does is only a repayment (Paton 302). On the same page as the previous quote, Napoleon says that he does his work not for his patron, but for his people and country (Paton 302). Both the quote and the reference help frame the way Paton portrays the people s point of view. The first quote shows that in Paton s eyes, the people thought that the white man is what led to the problems for the people. This is further supported by Arthur Jarvis passage, where he points out that the white population has evaded the issues at hand instead of tackling them (Paton 179). He is consistently listed among the great American authors of the later twentieth century and his novel s such as Cat s Cradle and Slaughterhouse Five are considered modern classics. In this essay, I will focus on two of Vonnegut s short stories Welcome to the Monkey House (1968) which takes place in a dystopian future where everyone is required to take pills that take all the pleasure out of sex and Miss Temptation (1959) which takes place in a small east coast town by looking at them through a feminist lense. This moment is presented as one of the first lessons that Billy teaches Nancy, that the pills are bad and somehow making her less of a woman. However, what it really suggests is that a woman isn t worth listening to if her sexuality isn t involved. Once Nancy reaches Billy s hideout, other women are more than happy to assist him in raping her. It is later revealed that all of these other women were also once raped by Billy but have now they understand and they re grateful. The fact that these victims would not only be happy to assist their rapist and kidnapper but also are described as almost worshipping him seems to suggest more of a Stockholm syndrome situation instead of one where Billy has saved them. Billy obviously holds the power within his gang and these women are willing to do whatever it takes to help him rape other women. The idea that all these women needed to become grateful was to be forcefully deflowered by Billy perpetuates the patriarchal idea that women need to be introduced (often forcefully) to their own sexuality. Instead of just letting the women stop taking their pills and then waiting for them to make their own decisions about what to do with their bodies, Billy rapes them almost as soon as the ... Physician Remuneration Case Study In 2010 11, Ontario spent, 40.3% of its total spending on healthcare programs and it was determined that if left unchecked this trend would expand to more than 44% by 2017 18 (Drummond, 2012). Physician remuneration accounts for the third largest share of health dollars (15.5%), behind only pharmaceuticals (15.7%) and hospitals (29.5%) (Canadian Institute for Health Information, 2015). These three categories are by far the largest single categories of expenditure and when combined represent 60% of total health spending. In this case the principle is the government, which has an objective of maximizing the health care of Ontario while also efficiently utilizing resources to keep costs low. However the government (principle) cannot achieve this on its own and need physicians (the agent) to carry out the task related to health improvement. The government aims to motivate physician through financial incentives to improve health, nonetheless physicians are always striving to increase their own utility via higher income, which occurs as a direct result of patients visits to the physician which is higher when the population is unhealthy. This represents an endless cycle of repetition, where the government wishes to improve health status but the intrinsic value of physician remuneration is a direct result of the lack of health in the population. This results in the fee for service model being both technically inefficient and costly since physicians have a financial incentive to over utilize resources such as conducting exams that may not necessarily be needed. Furthermore due to the nature of Universal health care patients also have also a tendency to over utilize health services, as individuals do not personally incur costs for accessing health services. This leads to the expressed demand curve of health care being higher than it should if it were solely based on necessity (Figure 1). Each extra unnecessary access of healthcare provides diminishing marginal benefit in large part due to opportunity cost. If a patient did not access said health care their time could have gone towards a different activity that has a higher marginal benefit. As a result true marginal social benefit is lower than modeled and utility decreases overall as the public healthcare model and fee for service model for physicians results in over utilization regardless of the ... • 10. Spoken Identity In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night Twelfth Night is riddled with numerous cases of disguise, deception, and mistaken identity which helps shape the play because with none of these three things there is no Twelfth Night. It adds to the plentiful cases of humor in the play as well as affecting the other themes like love. The mistaken identities and disguises help entangle the love of each of the characters into a mess that doesn t clearly resolve itself until the end when they all finally try to shed those disguises; for example, when Cesario reveals that he is actually a woman named Viola. The main disguise that the play centers around is this disguise of Viola while she serves the Lord Orsino. This deception ends up turning on Viola as the women Orsino sent her to court ... Malvolio is deceived into thinking there are two people. This further adds to the humor of the play because the audience knows what Malvolio does not; it is ironic that Malvolio calls out fool repeatedly when he himself is the one being made look like a fool. The real fool, Feste, is often scorned for being in the profession of a fool, but that is deceitful because he is often one of the wisest characters in the play. The dentist had my father leave the room, then, as I kicked and screamed and fought, he proceeded to restrain me with one hand, while he held a black anesthesia mask over my face with the other. I woke up with a mouth full of bloody gauze and an intense fear of dentists. For many people, finding a good dentist is a hard task because of past bad experiences. I often tell people that I d rather give birth than go to the dentist. Since I have seven kids, born naturally, I know from which I speak. • 12. Examples Of Blockbuster Theory 3 There are some routes and paths that must not be taken. There are some armies and troops that must not be assaulted. Although some of the routes and paths may looks advantageous to us, it should not be taken lightly. This is because there might be some ambushes that cannot be found or detected easily. If the decision is not made cautiously, troubles or loss may be incurred instead of gaining the desired advantages. In other words, do not judge a book by its cover. Besides that, something that seems like a benefit may be also a trap set by the enemy or competitor. If someone walks into the trap looking for benefit, then his or her benefit could be taken away instead. This theory was applied by Blockbuster, which was once a very popular video rental company. The Chief Executive Officer of Blockbuster, Jim Keyes, was interested in enhancing their retail business by purchasing Circuit City, an electronic retailer company (Eaton, 2008). Even in this situation, Blockbuster still did a good job by analysing the market carefully and making their decision wisely. At the time when the offer is announced to the public, many opinions from analysts flooded in, with majority agreeing that the offer is bad (Jacobs and Paul, 2008). Some places where social engineering could be applied and who gets benefits out of it. These days we use social engineering a little bit differently where social engineering can help many companies protect themselves from hackers. In computer word we have many vulnerabilities where social engineering can be applied. It is usually flavored with vanilla pod or natural vanilla extract, but it can be aromatized with chocolate, liqueurs, nuts or spices. Crème Anglaise Yield: 350 g Milk 250 g Sugar 75 g Egg yolks 80 g Vanilla pod Put milk, half of sugar and split vanilla pod in a saucepan and put on a stove. Blanch egg yolks and rest of the sugar. When milk and sugar is hot, around 80°C, pour some of the hot liquid over egg yolks and stir well. This procedure is called tempering. Pour the milk and yolk mixture to the pan and put it all back on stove. Cook stirring constantly until cream reaches 84°C. You can use thermometer to determine the temperature or you can make a test with a wooden spoon. When you coat the back of a spoon and go with your finger along. If the cream doesn t run through the line, it has right consistency. It should be a little bit thicker than milk and it shouldn t contain any visible specs. Be careful not to overcook the cream because the yolks will curdle and you will not be able to fix that. When it is done, strain through a sieve and cool. Crème Chantilly Crème Chantilly is simply lightly whipped cream flavored with a little bit of sugar and vanilla. It is a chemically stable compound and an excellent solvent for many drugs. Azone has a low irritating potential, a very low toxicity and nearly no pharmacological activity (56, 58). It can be used as penetration enhancers for hydrophilic and lipophilic substances such as steroids, antibiotics and antiviral agents and for peptide molecules as well, such as insulin and vasopressin (58). The efficacy of Azone is concentration dependent and is influenced by the choice of vehicle from which it is applied. Azone is most effective at low concentrations, being employed typically between 0.1% and 5%, often between 1% and 3% (56). Addition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The optimal hydrocarbon chain length was between 8 and 14 carbons, which would vary according to their different polar heads. The action of an enhancer was dependent on the balance between its hydrophilic and lipophilic nature, and therefore different length of alkyl chain was required for best incorporation of the enhancer with different polar heads into the skin lipid bilayers (60). b) Heterocyclic ring size The presence of five member cycle increased the activity, while six and seven member cycle exhibited lower activity. Azone analogs with a small polar head might be expected to be situated well into the polar lipid domain, thus disrupting the ordered organization of the lipid layers (61). c) The heteroatoms in the polar ... Newton developed the principles of modern physics. He created the three laws of motion popular in the world of science and our daily lives ( Issac Newton Biography ). Or if say your dog knocked the cup off the surface, it would also be disrupting the forces. Anything that is a new force and comes in contact with it will unbalance it. A second example of this first law is another everyday object, a car. However this one is actually creating a force, not just being controlled by them. When a car is moving down a road it is pushing against the road and the road is also pushing it back. If the driver keeps their foot on the gas pedal it will keep the forces balanced ( Newton s First Law of Motion: Examples of the Effect of Force on Motion ). However, if something comes in contact with the car, like a tree, it will unbalance the forces currently on the car and the car will stop moving. For the final example imagine you re playing a game of bowling with a bunch of your friends. The bowling ball shows an example of Newton s first law. By throwing the ball you are putting forces on it when it begins to roll. It is being pushed down the lane and pushing against the lane. A rolling ball will keep rolling until it hits something or until friction takes over. In this case at one point the ball will stop, either when colliding with the pins or when rolling down gutter to the stop wall. This chapter brought up a good point about the antibiotics regulations for organic farming. As someone who was once a member of 4 H if you are planning on raising market animals the healthier the animal is the better. So when the USDA set the no antibiotics standard for market animals to be considered organic is unrealistic because in order to have a shot at raising healthy animals they need to get shots to keep them from getting sick. And this doesn t just apply to 4 H, it applies to commercial farms too and that s why some of them treat their animals so badly. Commercial farms try to follow the USDA rules but aren t making enough money to keep their animals healthy so when they get sick the animals are hurriedly pushed to get well without the use of vet care, because that s money that they could use to buy more animals instead of trying to care for the ones they have. This doesn t condone the methods the commercial farms use but it is easier to care for the animals better when you are a 4 H er and raising 1 3 animals per year as opposed to a factory farm raising 60 70 animals per year. ...
