Importance Of A Healthy City
Cities are amongst the greatest of human creations. The definition of a healthy city by the World
Health Organization is one that continually creates, improves its physical and social environment and
expands the community resources that enable people to mutually support each other in performing all
the functions of life and developing to their maximum potential. ( What is a healthy city? ) Such that,
the health is a crucial factor in shaping a healthy living environment as it can be a clear indicator
showing the quality of life of the city. In the 21st century, the city is managed and organised by the
government in order make sure the city is operating efficiently and healthily to provide an ideal living
environment for residents. It is controversial that what area should the city take care of the individuals
while health is mentioned most of the time. In many studies and researches, the case happened in
history, and present days has indicated that the city should take responsibility for the health of its
individual in the 21st century. The responsibilities of health management can be applied directly or
indirectly through policies to sustain the quality of the environment and the health of individuals. It is
not only about the economic development, but also the health of individuals. It is true that health
cannot be assured by the city, but the public health can be kept to a high standard while the city which
is the government and the individual taking care of it

Examples Of Intertextuality In Bridget Jones
Intertextuality in Bridget Jones Bridget Jones is an average woman struggling against her age, her
weight, her job, her lack of a man, and her many imperfections. As a New Year s Resolution, Bridget
decides to take control of her life, starting by keeping a diary in which she will always tell the
complete truth. The fireworks begin when her charming though disreputable boss takes an interest in
the quirky Miss Jones. Thrown into the mix are Bridget s band of slightly eccentric friends and a
rather disagreeable acquaintance that Bridget cannot seem to stop running into or help finding quietly
attractive. Bridget Jones s Diary as an example of intertextuality in contemporary literature, Helen ...

For example, when Bridget mistakenly believes that no one has invited her to any Christmas parties,
her first instinct is to feel bad about herself. While Elizabeth copes with social slights through
mockery and humor, Bridget instead bemoans, Why hasn t Rebecca invited me to her party? Why?
Why? How many more parties are going on now that everyone has been invited to except me? I bet
everyone is at one now, laughing and sipping expensive champagne. No one likes me But as Elizabeth
is not without her flaws, so Bridget is not with her attributes. She has a degree of intelligence and a
quick eye for funny and insightful observations. She notices the way people look on the subway
Valentine s Day morning ( Everyone was looking round trying to catch each other s eye and either
smirking or looking away ). But unlike Elizabeth, Bridget mostly saves her best remarks for her diary

Andy Griffith Show Compare And Contrast
In contrast the shows The Andy Griffith Show and I Love Lucy, these shows have plenty of
differences. The first difference between the two shows, is the setting of the shows; a big city versus a
small hometown. I Love Lucy was set in a big city, during the late 1095 s, that is home to lots of
people and many different businesses and places. The Andy Griffith Show was set in a small town,
during the early 1950 s, everyone knows everyone by name. The location of both shows sets the stage
for the storylines to come.
Secondly, regarding the social status, Andy, from The Andy Griffith Show was a single father to his
son Opie, and took care of his Aunt Bea and was also the town sheriff. He had his trusted deputy Otis.
While Lucy and Desi were an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The characters on The Andy Griffith Show had a small comedic side, but the show was about doing
the right thing and good moral values. Andy was constantly thinking of the other person(s) and there
was always a good lesson learned every episode. In one episode, Andy and Otis decided to switch
Aunt Bea s pickles with store bought pickles, as the ones she made were terrible and they did not want
to hurt her feelings or their stomachs. I Love Lucy on the other hand was all about the comedy. Lucy
was frequently trying to find a way to get stuff done in an odd matter. In one of the episodes we
watched Lucy tried to get the answers to a radio show she signed them up for as she found out Desi
was not as smart as he made himself seem.
The third contrast between these shows was the filming style that was used. I Love Lucy was
produced using a multi camera telefilm method. The show was also filmed in front of a live audience,
which gave the sitcom more life. The Andy Griffith Show on the other hand was filmed using a single
camera technique. Those factors alone changed the feel of the shows. With The Andy Griffith Show,
you could feel him walking though out the town. With I Love Lucy there was the looking in

The State Of The Electoral College
Tyranny naturally arises out of democracy. These words from the Greek philosopher Plato summarize
the most fundamental concern of the delegates to the Constitutional Convention when they considered
what the best way to conduct presidential elections would be. While, in concept, democracy sounds
like the fairest form of government, in practice, it is less than ideal. Fear of tyranny of the majority
prompted discussion over how the president should be elected. The Founders chose the Electoral
College which incorporates democracy, federalism, and republicanism for presidential selection,
because it provided for the best balance of power. The Electoral College was the product of no small
amount of debate during the Constitutional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While he agreed that the sense of the people should operate in the choice of the [president], he made
clear the importance of afford[ing] as little opportunity as possible to tumult and disorder. This would
require the will of the people to be tempered by an intermediate body of electors. Not only would this
be a compromise between the competing ideas in the Constitutional Convention, it would prevent any
one group from having undue discretion when it came to electing the most powerful person in
government. Of these competing ideas, two are prominently reflected in the Electoral College. The
first is democracy, an idea largely advanced by Alexis de Tocqueville in Democracy in America.
Democracy, loosely defined as the direct representation of people in government, seems the most
logical way to conduct an election. The second is federalism. Understanding how this could become
problematic, the founders decided to include states in the election process. According to Federalist 68,
this would allow the people of each State [to] choose a number of persons as electors...who shall
assemble...and vote for some fit person as President. This balance of individual and state discretion
would soon be codified in Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution.
The Electoral College has remained steadfast in our ever changing world. What

Vivaldi Instrumedeley Analysis
The two concerts I have chosen are different in many ways, but the music itself has a lot in common.
For the first concert I chose the progressive rock group Dream Theater. I chose the piece Instrumedley
from their Live at Budokan video released in 2004. This video depicts the band setup on stage in the
typical rock concert format. The lighting is bright and multicolored. Unlike most rock concerts, the
musicians do not animate themselves to excite the crowd. They rely on the mastery of their
instruments to provide the excitement.
The second concert is a performance of Vivaldi s Concerto Grosso in D minor. It is performed by the
Franz Listz Chamber Orchestra. The setting is that of a small gothic church in Hungary. There is no
audience as the venue is used solely for the acoustics.
The band Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985. The members met
while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Their music focuses on three
core elements: metal, progressive roots and melody. Dream Theater has been known to make use of
elements of other musical styles to include classical music. The piece I selected, Instrumedely , is a

sequence is entrancing as the two violins tend to echo off one another. The acoustics of the gothic
church lend itself perfectly to the style of music. The details in the melody are clearly heard while
there is a rich bass sound thanks to the echo of the church. I found the piece to be rather relaxing while
being impressed by the complexity. It is no surprise that so many modern guitarists borrow heavy

Marxists theory to the sociological understanding of crime...
Assess the contribution of the Marxist theory to the sociological understanding of crime and deviance.
(21 marks) Marxism is a macro/structural approach to society, meaning that it looks at the large scale
societal structure for answers about how society works and operates and explores crime and deviance
in relation to classes within a capitalist society. Marxists claim that laws do not reflect a value
consensus, instead laws and law enforcement benefits the rich (protection of private property), and
discriminate the poor which brings about social class reproduction, the working class are criminalised
for their crimes but the criminal just system are more lenient towards the crimes of the wealth such as
white collar crime or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pearce also explores how white collar crime is hidden from the masses and this puts them in a state of
false consciousness so they do not see the full extent of the white collar crime, this is ideological
social control, this is often linked to the media which often portrays stereotypes and demonises the
poor as criminals. Chambliss looks into selective law enforcement, at the heart of the legal system in
the protection of private property, this ensures that the ruling class maintain their wealth, which leads
to social class reproduction. All social groups commit crime, but it is the poor who are targeted by the
criminal justice system. This is linked to stereotypes where the police target deprived groups in
deprived areas e.g. stop and search. There are many strengths and weaknesses to the Marxist
approach, such as it explores law making as well as law breaking, it examines selective law
enforcement so looks into the discrimination of the working class. They also highlight the idea of
social control and how police are more likely to stop and search people based on stereotypes that are
displayed in the media which can also be linked with the labelling theory. However there are some
weaknesses to the Marxist approach such as that it ignores how some laws benefit everyone, and
ignores gender and ethnicity which can be a vital factor in differences in crime and deviance and it is

Recognition of Gay and Lesbian Marriage and Pluralism Essay
Recognition of gay and lesbian marriage and pluralism
Word Count: 2024
What does pluralism reveal about the recognition of gay and lesbian marriage? What are the strengths
and limitations of this theory in understanding the recognition of gay and lesbian marriage?
Power overlaps between interest and political groups and as a result, political decision making is
reached through negotiation and compromise (Manley 1983). Indeed, when examining the progressive
debate concerning the legal recognition of same sex relationships in Australia, the perception that
power is bartered through interest groups becomes highly plausible through the lens of classical
pluralist theory. There are competing visions of diversity in Australia, and behind ... Show more

The classical pluralist model is distinguished by its example of power being relatively dispersed and
that decision making is open to a variety of interest groups. In Australia, scholarship has settled upon
what Monsma and Soper describe as pragmatic pluralism (1997) based upon political expediency,
explained by the practical character of Australian culture and in the context of same sex marriage, an
interest in giving a fair go (Sky News Australia 2015). The most important predictions about same sex
marriage and politics amount to the flow on political participation and organization of interests. This is
a topic Australian people are interested in. This tenet of Dahl s organizational pluralism urges
individuals to query the conditions of rights, ritual and state recognition in Australia (Dahl 1978). In
this way, classical pluralism s strength in relation to the marriage equality topic is that it speaks to a
future where diverse relationships are supported, instead of denied and shamed.
Australian classical pluralist theory is a conventional corpus, and its core ideas offer one of the more
relevant power analyses regarding polarized concerns for morality in the same sex marriage debate.
Political theorist, Galston, argues that there is a strong case for pluralism being the most adequate
account of the moral universe mankind inhabits (1999). If this is the case, then the pendulum

Family In Sophocles Antigone

Family Comes First
Imagine being put in a situation where honor towards your own blood opposes the law. In the city
state of Thebes, King Creon issues a law that bans the burial of Polyneices. The dead man s sister, a
young woman named Antigone, buries her brother against King Creon s blessings. Antigone s
courageous actions lead her to her own fatal death. Sophocles emphasizes the importance of choosing
family over authority in his play Antigone .
Regardless of the punishment, Antigone contradicts the laws in order to pay her brother respect. King
Creon clearly informs everyone on the consequences of tampering with the corpse of Polynices,
Antigone s brother. Antigone argues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Creon initially forbids any sort of honor towards the body of Polyneices. Because of his rational
decision, a series of deaths occur. Creon yells to the Chorus, Mistakes from thoughtless thoughts,
stubborn and deadly! (59). Unfortunately, his loved ones had to die in order for him to realize that his
choice was a mistake. He should have realized that there is a difference between a ruthless leader and
a caring leader; mistakenly, he chooses to be a ruthless leader by neglecting the importance of family.
Sophocles tries to push upon the reader that the law should come second to family. Antigone involves
herself in a whole lot of trouble with the law in order to pursue her desire to commemorate her brother
s tragic death. Not only does Antigone prioritize family but her sister, Ismene, does too. Ismene
willingly sacrifices her life in order to support her sister in her downfall. King Creon feels remorseful
about being uncompromising; he prioritizes the law which ultimately leads to his own family
perishing. Defend boundaries of loved ones without hesitation, otherwise, the world would fill with

The Millennium Development Goals ( Mdgs ) Essay
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were established in 2000 to determine, focus on and put
into action steps that will fight eight key areas to help underdeveloped countries. The eight targeted
areas which are poverty, education, gender equality, child mortality, maternal health, disease, the
environment and global partnership place attention on areas that will help the improvement and
betterment of underdeveloped countries.
MDGs goals and objectives are clear and concise with a development plan in place to make changes
with underdeveloped and middle income countries. Equally are all eight of the goals, but focusing on
poverty, hunger and child mortality, will bring these two goals to the forefront.
MDGs for poverty and hunger are looking for decreases by half between 1990 and 2015 in the amount
of people in underdeveloped countries who has an income of fewer than $1 per day (UN Department
of Public Health, 2010). Additionally, between the same timeframe, goals are set to decrease by half
the amount of people who experience and suffer from hungriness (UN Department of Public Health,
2010). These goals were put into place in 2000, reviewed in 2015 and an updated plan to target these
goals were set for 2020 (United Nations, 2015). Even though many countries are a part of the MDGs,
practical and reasonable goals and objectives can be met with great emphasis, attention and action.

The Argument From The Sanctity Of Human Life
The moral response would be to save the child. One could only imagine that it would be in the child s
best interest to save their life. It would then be considered immoral not to save the child, because then
the child might drown, and therefore die. There are two arguments that back this response and they
are: The Argument That We Should Save as Many as We Can, and also the Argument from the
Sanctity of Human Life. The Argument That We Should Save as Many as We Can is straight forward.
Life is precious, and thus it should be valued in the same way. The girl that was drowning was yelling
for help, so therefore she wanted to be saved. The moral reason would be to save or help this girl or
anyone else who is need; if it is in their best interest and will not inflict harm on others. ... Show more

life is precious, and it is morally wrong to let an innocent human being suffer and down which will
eventually lead up to their death. It would be immoral not to save this innocent girl from drowning.

Type Two Diabetes Paper
Type two diabetes is the most common disease today, and it has a great impact on the lives of many
people in the United States. Type two diabetes results when the body is resistant to insulin or impaired
secretion of insulin by the pancreatic beta cells. The pancreas produces too much insulin, but over
time it is not able to make an adequate amount of insulin needed in order to move the glucose into the
cells. However, there are many factors that lead to type two diabetes. They are known to be genetic,

Insulin resistance is the first physiological change occurring in type two diabetes. In these type two
diabetic patients, insulin is unable to move glucose into liver, kidney and muscle cells although insulin
is able to attach properly to the cell surface receptors. In order to rectify this, most patients with type
two diabetes start secreting normal to very high levels of insulin, which can initially overcome this
resistance. After a while, the pancreas cannot keep up with this high insulin production and the cells
become resistant to glucose intake. Persistent hyperglycemia or high blood glucose levels are not
desirable since this causes damage to the beta cells of the pancreas that produces the insulin hormone.
This damage to beta cells further hampers insulin synthesis and patients at this stage are categorized as
full blown diabetic. Such patients consistently show a hyperglycemia state even after hours of fasting (

Analysis Of Growing Up In Eleven By Sandra Cisneros
Growing up is something that everyone goes through. As one grows older they feel differently about
growing up. A young kid wants to grow up and going out into the real world, then that same kid grows
up a bit and faces the reality of life and doesn t want to grow old, but instead wants to go back, the last
phase is just accepting the fact that this is happening no matter what. The first stage is wanting to
grow up and looking forward to it. The story Eleven by Sandra Cisneros shows the perspective of an
eleven year old going through a tough situation: I wish I was anything but eleven, because I want
today to be far away already, far away like a runaway balloon, like a tiny o in the sky, so tiny you have
to close your eyes to see it (248). This little girl has no idea what growing up is, she believes that
being older will fix everything, this shows how differently someone thinks when they re younger and
more naive. Cisneros says, Today I wish I was one hundred and two instead of eleven because if I was
one hundred and two I d have known what to say when Mrs. Price put the red sweater on my desk
(247). Furthermore, Because she s old and the teacher she s right and I m not (Cisneros 247). The little
girl says this and it applies to younger kids like herself because they ve lived their whole life listening
to what adults say that they have a tendency to just think they are right. The poem On Turning Ten by
Billy Collins says, It seems only yesterday I used to believe, there was nothing under my skin but
light/ If you cut me I could shine (29 32). This ten year old boy explains how he thought he was
invincible and nothing was impossible. The picture Growing Up by Hannah Galvin shows 7 figures at
different stages in their life, the third figure shows a little boy who is excited and running with his face
up. This shows how he did everything with his head held high no matter what. This first stage gives
someone the innocence that makes them a little kid, and allows them to have an imagination. The
second stage is actually going out into the real world and realizing that growing up isn t something to
be excited for. Collins further states, But now I am mostly at the window/ watching the late afternoon

The Relationship Between Flexibility Benefits Used And...
The article by Cicei (2015) discusses one of the greatest challenges to families in today s society,
which is work family conflict. In the workforce today, and in numerous households people struggle
with being able to balance family time and the responsibilities of their chosen career without creating
disturbance within their home. As a way to lessen these disputes corporations have begun to provide
certain benefits, organizations, and flexible work arrangements to their employees. However, in recent
studies that examine the use of flexible work arrangements and reduced levels of work family conflict
no significant results of reduced disturbance has been reported (Cicei, 2015).
Since there have been no significant results Cicei (2015) conducted a study in this article to examine
the relationship between the flexibility benefits used and work family conflict, focusing especially on
the role flextime and telecommuting (Cicei, 2015). To validate whether flexible work arrangements
have a negative effect on work and family conflict, the conducted study examined the relationship
between the use of flexible work arrangements and three forms of work family conflict. The flexible
work arrangements utilized in the study included flextime, compressed workweek, telecommuting,
and part time work (Cicei, 2015). The three forms of work conflict were time based, strain based, and
behavior based (Cicei, 2015).
The participants consisted of 102 individuals who worked in IT, education, and

Epistobabble Warfare
INTRODUCTION
The article Marketing: philosophy of science and epistobabble warfare is a commentary by the author
Michel Rod published as a qualitative research in an International Journal, Vol. 12 Iss. 2, pp. 120 129.
Throughout the article Rod articulated his viewpoints on the variety of philosophies involved in
legitimizing the science of marketing research and sought to establish his own perspective of what he
actually believes marketing research should accomplish. This was stated in his thesis statement that:
Rather than argue one particular perspective, it is this paper s central thesis that no one philosophical
perspective does or should have a monopoly on what makes a useful contribution to our understanding
of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To further balance his commentary, Rod also looked at the unpopular aspect of the philosophy of
science in marketing, the philosophies that dictate how market research should be conducted to make
a real contribution to society. In quoting Frank Bass on his editorial comment to put it all together
Gains in fundamental knowledge have been substantial, but, more importantly, what has transpired has
been the development of a system for further development of science in marketing (p. 124.)
Whilst Rod continued in his literature review to explore further philosophies,
Critique
Rod s conceptual paper on Marketing: the philosophy of science and epistobabble warfare was not an
easy paper that one could read and understand on the first go. If the topic is not within the subject area
of the reader, then the article further becomes an epistobabble full of isims and schisms that one would
have to ponder on for days.
There is no denying that the reader had to do additional research to fully comprehend Rod s
commentary on the philosophical perspectives involved in conducting a market research.
Nevertheless, by stating his background in medicine where research was/is conducted with less
philosophical debates, save ethical ones the transition for Rod to an area with documented
philosophies in search of truths was a transition for him.
Who is the author of this journal entry? It was interesting to note that Professor Michel Rod is an

The Humbledore Alternate Ending

The word echoed off the walls, the current occupants of Albus Dumbledore s office having shouted it
simultaneously
There is no way
Are you out of your mind
Have you finally gone senile

Remus Lupin, Harry Potter, Draco Malfoy, and Severus Snape all raised their voices at once, shouting
nearly unintelligibly as Dumbledore twinkled merrily at them from behind his desk.
Now boys, I do believe we should all quiet down before we wake up the entire castle. I politely refuse,

Draco following in their wake.
Remus felt the brush of the wards settle over him, and upon reaching the door, hastened to unlock it
and open it just as Snape swept past him with a sneer. Harry passed by with a shy glance towards him,
and Remus followed Draco as he hesitantly crossed the threshold.
The house was cozy, but surprisingly spacious, with only one story. It had large windows that painted
a lovely picture of the beach outside. Snape had disappeared, and Draco was still standing nervously
by a bookshelf, while Harry had moved over to the window. Seeing as Draco was uneasy about their
arrangements, Remus decided to attempt passivity towards the proud boy. Remus walked over to
Draco, who eyed him apprehensively, and asked if he would like the first pick of the rooms. Draco
looked startled at the lack of malice, but nodded and smiled shyly, acting quite unlike himself, and
walked away towards the hallway leading towards the bedrooms. Remus glanced over at Harry and
saw a surprise flit over his face, followed by nervousness and another emotion he couldn t name. For

Comparing The Hero In The Last Of The Mohicans
American Romanticism set the tone for typical American literature. James Fenimore Cooper set the
bar with the archetypal traits that define American literature, appearing from books like The Last of
the Mohicans to current films like Indiana Jones s adventure Raiders of the Lost Ark. Three of the
archetypal traits that appear in both timeless classics and current masterpieces are a brave faultless
hero, daring rescues, and loyal companions. The first and most important part of almost any story is its
hero. What makes the heroes in American Romantic literature so special is their bravery, skillfulness,
and faultlessness. The main hero in The Last of the Mohicans, Natty Bumppo, is a brave and skilled
Native American who makes wise decisions and never makes a mistake. He may be temporarily
overcome by the enemy, but he always bounces back and takes what is his, through reasoning with a
chieftain or through force against a military leader. Similarly, Indiana Jones is also brave and skilled
with a whip, but he is less faultless. His fear of snakes deters him in some situations, but he always
overcomes his fear to save the day. Both Natty Bumppo and Indiana Jones have the courageousness
and skill to get out of any situation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

trend of introducing twists and turns into a story to keep the audience on edge. The Last of the
Mohicans does not cause as much suspense, but it was groundbreaking at the time it was written. Even
so, both Natty Bumppo and Indiana Jones have to save their faithful friends time and time

Examples Of Quebec Referendum Of 1995
English and French Canadians have had years of disagreements and the Quebec Referendum of 1995
proves how separate both really are. The Quebec Referendum of 1995 was the second referendum to
ask voters in the province of Quebec whether or not Quebec should declare national sovereignty and
become an independent country. The Quebec Referendum of 1995 was a defining moment in
Canadian History that emphasized the disunity between Quebec and the rest of Canada. With the
alienation of Québec, the Parti Quebecois advocating for national sovereignty, and Lucien Bouchard

examples of how this historic event emphasized the disunity between Quebec and the rest of Canada.

Essay on Guns Make for a Safer Country
Guns are needed. The main purpose is for protection. People think that by banning guns Americans
will be safer. This is not true though. Criminals get their guns through illegal ways so it would be hard
to confiscate all the guns. With guns taken away most Americans would probably turn on their
government. Some people want to ban guns because they are used in crimes. But the guns are not
committing the crime people are. Guns have always been and always will be a form of protection. A
gun is the easiest way to keep the peace. Nothing scares someone more than knowing they could die.
There are few people that are not scared of guns. When guns are in the hands of the right people peace

The castle law allows people to protect themselves on their own property. If a person breaks into a
house then the owner has the right to shoot and kill that trespasser on the spot. Only some states allow
the castle law though. One negative view toward guns is that they kill people. People kill people. The
person behind the gun is the killer. Using this as an argument against gun is the worst way someone
can approach it. When someone is killed by a drunk driver do people think that the car is responsible
for killing? No, they obviously blame the drunk driver and say nothing about the vehicle used in the
incident. It should be the same way with guns. People should not turn on the guns that they use for
protection because there are people that misuse guns. The problem is the way guns are viewed. Keith
Olberman states, Guns are evil and the NRA is evil. The article says, 30,000 Americans are killed by
guns each year (Stossel). Anyone can see in the statement it says killed by guns. It should say the guns
are used. When it is stated like that it makes it seem like guns are the problem. When most of the time
it is the people. In most of the big shootings the people behind them usually have some problem or

Strength And Weaknesses Of Unitary Government In The...
The United States of America declared freedom from Great Britain in 1776. There were thirteen
colonies that decided to arrange a necessary government. After battling the difficulties of living under
a monarchy, the Founding Fathers have set up a Federation with ideas of foreign governments: unitary
and confederal. The American Federalism government, Unitary, and Confederal government have
strength and weaknesses in running countries. Countries such as Switzerland and Cuba use a Unitarian
government system (Unitary State Countries, 2015 2018). A Unitary government is very small
centralized and controls the legal and moral legislation for both the state and the country
(Apecsecadmin 2015). The most damaging result of this system is the lack of clear communication
between the government and citizens. This type of government cannot identify or respond quickly to a
direct issue within a local city or state. The advantages, however on the other hand do allow for
prompt judgments for the entire country, this includes passing laws and design a budget. ... Show more

The Confederal system was made up the first thirteen colonies that saw themselves as their own
countries. The states had the ability to create treaties with each other. The Articles of Confederal were
able to win the war against Britain and declare national freedom. The advantage and disadvantage of a
confederal system is to avert a strong central government. The lack of a strong government causes a
loose relationship between the states, thus the inability to enforce tax collections or laws. A weak
government on the other hand, cannot abuse the powers causing a tyranny ruling of the individual
states (Kelly 2017). The vision of the confederal system was to keep the power at home and allow
states to share directly with the citizens. This form of government is considered the transformation

Management Focusing on Acute Pain: A Multidisciplinary Concept Analysis
The concept of managing acute pain is extremely significant to nursing as pain is one of the most
common problems for which patients seek out health care resources. Pain is a complex and abstract
concept that encompasses sensory, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual perceptions of pain
that may occur in combination with physical pain. Pain is difficult to describe and often hard to

Pain is described as a process instead of a sensation. Pain can be influenced by decreasing sensory
inputs, and changing behavioral cognitive factors. It was no longer necessary to differentiate between
organic and psychogenic pain. GCT is to be utilized as a multidisciplinary approach in pain
management along with CBT and pharmacological interventions. Defining pain from a psychological
perspective, it can be agreed that pain involves a physiological stimulus. The presence of a
physiological stimulus cannot determine the pain behavior. The impact of an individual s mood,
cognition, culture, social, and environmental influences need to be considered to view the totality of

Fox Hunting Should Be Banned Essay
Fox hunting is one form of hunting. It is a pursuit of a wild fox with a pack of hounds, which are
specially bred and trained for the sole purpose of fox hunting, and are followed by hunters who
usually ride on horses. When the hounds pick up the scent of a fox, they will follow it until the fox
evades them, goes to ground, or is overtaken and killed by the hounds. This form of hunting is
exercised in several countries around the world, but this essay will concentrate on fox hunting in the
United Kingdom. It has been practiced in Britain for around 300 years, with its popularity at its height
in the late 19th century. The debate concerning fox hunting has heated up in the past few years.

An opposing view is that the fox is not a serious threat to agriculture, and should not be considered as
a vermin. According to the League Against Cruel Sports the foxes actually help farmers by eating
small animals, such as rabbits, rats and voles, which are considered to be pests on arable land. In
addition, foxes are territorial animals, which means that once a fox is killed another soon moves into
its place from a surrounding area. Left to control their population naturally the number of foxes would
be controlled by scarcity of food, whereas when used fox hunting for controlling the populations, it
only serves to lessen the amount of the animals temporarily, for more foxes to take advantage of the
increase in food thus breeding again. Furthermore, foxes do not cause significant loss or damage in
livestock. For example the League Against Cruel Sports, an organization strongly against fox hunting,
mentions a York University study that states that only a minimal amount of 0.4% of lambs are killed
by foxes, and of other livestock the percentage is extremely low as well. According to the study foxes
are not a significant danger to livestock.
Supporters of fox hunting present the opinion that foxes do not suffer from stress or pain as a result of
the hunt. According to them, hunting with hounds allows the foxes to be killed immediately by one nip
to the back of the fox s neck, as the dogs are significantly larger than the

Langston Hughes Untold Truths About The American Revolution
Langston Hughes wrote a story about his memory of getting saved during a revival service at his aunt

these two readings don t seem to have anything in common. However, both stories focus on the theme
of bullying and have other similarities. The differences between the stories are more important than
the similarities. Overall, Salvation is a more believable story of bullying, but Untold Truths About the

The most obvious contrast is the point of view in which each story is told. Hughes s story is written in
first person while Zinn s essay is written in third person. The reader can feel what Hughes experienced
personally while reading the story whereas the anger Zinn is conveying in his article is about an issue
he had no stake in. This difference is important because Hughes didn t just choose to make up a story
and tell it in first person. He went through what he wrote about, but Zinn wrote about something that
happened over two hundred years ago. The bullies in Salvation were people who knew each other
personally in contrast to the large groups of people in Untold Truths About the American Revolution.
Hughes s bullies were his aunt, the preacher, and other grownups, people he had been raised to trust.
He wrote, I had heard a great many old people say the same thing and it seemed to me they ought to
know (7). Zinn stereotypes all of the Founding Fathers and rich men as bullies. The victims in both
stories also differ. Langston and the other children in his church were victims, so they had even less
power than the poor men, slaves, and Indians who Zinn believes were the victims in Untold Truths
About the American Revolution. The end results also vary from each other. On one hand Hughes did
not believe in Jesus anymore, and he felt disappointed in himself; another result in Salvation could be
that Langston might have become distrustful of religion and/or authority figures. While on the other
hand Zinn thinks not everyone benefited from war, and we might have fought a war that did not need
to be fought. Zinn even has several sections on how each group did not benefit from the war. A result
of the Revolution that Zinn did not highlight was that the colonists definitely won their independence.
Finally the blame in both stories is different. Even though the bullies made

minorities have a very limited chance to cross or advance. This paper will analyze a case study on:
Glass Ceeiling and answer some follow up questions such as: the advancement barriers Lisa
encountered, What the firm s leadership (including Michael Breyer) should have done differently to
retain Lisa, the type of organizational policies and opportunities that could have benefited Lisa and
Pamela, and what the leaders within the organization could have done to raise gender consciousness of
Michael Breyer and Lisa s male colleagues.
Analysis: Glass Ceiling In corporate America today, most women and even minorities find it difficult
to shatter the glass ceiling since it is dominated by the male. Although some percentage of women
have made progress in the corporate ladder. In context, the ceiling means that there is a certain limit
that someone can climb in the hierarchy while glass emphasizes that ... Show more content on

Situations of this nature may be challenged legally with time; the success of the legal strategy would
lead to change in promotional procedures that will eventually shatter the glass ceiling and result in
positive pay reward for the oppressed. Therefore, companies should work toward winning in the
workplace, winning in the marketplace and winning with women. This case study shows that men are
very much involved in the usuage of power and women find it difficult to or rather impossible to reach
to that level or break the glass

Romare Bearden’s Collection Essay
Featured and organized by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Romare Bearden s collection is one that
appreciates and depicts life for what it really is. Bearden did not like abstract expressionism. Instead,
he made many collages depicting life with different perspectives, allowing the viewer to see reality,
but also try to figure out the true meaning that Bearden meant to portray in the collage that was not
directly seen by just looking at the picture. These collages were made by Cut and pasted printed,
colored and metallic papers, photostats, pencil, ink marker, gouache, watercolor, and pen and ink on
Masonite (MET Museum). Bearden liked telling narratives within these collages involving Harlem
life. Whether it was on the streets, inside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He took his imagery from both the everyday rituals of African American rural life in the south and
urban life in the north, melding those American experiences with his personal experiences and with
the themes of classical literature, religion, myth, music and daily human ritual (Ruth Fine).
The exhibition held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art featured one of Bearden s best works called
The Block. It is part of a celebration of Bearden s birth. According to the Museum, The Block, an
eighteen foot long collage, celebrates the Harlem neighborhood in New York City that nurtured and
inspired so much of the artist s life and work. Bearden s elaborate and colorful cut paper collages
elevated this genre to a major art form through its unusual materials, expressionist color, abstracted
forms, flattened shapes and spaces, and shifts in perspective and scale all the while maintaining focus
on the human narrative being told within a single city block (Met Museum). The block depicts Lenox
Avenue between 132nd and 113rd street, in New York City s Harlem neighborhood. The placement or
arrangement of the visual elements in this collage is structured by what we usually see on a normal
city block. This includes apartments, store fronts, and groups of people gathering. Bearden also
includes a liquor store, a funeral parlor, a church, and a barbershop. You can see how people live and

Preterm Birth In The United States
Preterm birth refers when a baby is born before or within 37weeks, meaning anytime between 20 to 37
weeks. Each week marks a development stage, it is significantly important for a baby to reach the
maximum weeks necessary for a high percentage of survival and well being. Per Makena
(hydroxyprogesterone caproate injection used to lower the risk of preterm birth), a baby born at 25
weeks has a better rate of survival than the 22 or 23 weeks old. In U.S.A the ratio is 1:10 born
prematurely, meaning 400,000 babies born too soon.
Per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention having a preterm baby varies with racial and ethnicity,
African Americans 13.5%, Native Americans 10.4%, Hispanics 9.3%, whites 9.15, Asians 8.7%.

Capital Punishment Is A Penalty For All Crimes
Capital punishment has been occurring since the earliest of the ages and has been performed numerous
times around the globe by all differently opinionated people. Last year only, 256 citizens have been
executed by the hand of law and only more to be uncovered. Capital punishment was part of culture in
Babylon where it coded the penalty for exactly twenty five crimes, Athens where death was suitable
for all crimes, and Rome. Since the olden ages, humans are still holding crimes against other people
applicable by death. But now, as humanity grows and our minds expand to new ideas and thinking, we
have come to the conclusion: As humans, do we really have the right to take away another soul s life
and living? So, as capital punishment makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Capital punishment assesses the perseverance of humanity and its morals. Because, the question is, is
the federal government allowed to murder such souls though tainted? But, the question is more, do
these victims deserve the cruelty of death? Expressing one s violence does not suppress it, in fact, it
simply enforces the desire to express it. Controlling and demonstrating emotions in such a way that
contaminates the good will in humans that is able to understand sentiment. As stated by Thurgood
Marshall, the late Justice of the Supreme Court, in in a June 29, 1972 Furman v. Georgia, In judging
whether or not a given penalty is morally acceptable, most courts have said that the punishment is
valid unless it shocks the conscience and sense of justice of the people. Assuming knowledge of all the
facts presently available regarding capital punishment, the average citizen would, in my opinion, find
it shocking to his conscience and sense of justice. For this reason alone, capital punishment cannot
stand. Thinking rationally, while inputting variables into the equation of the justice of capital
punishment, you could assume, depending on your variables, that capital punishment might be of a
formidable use. But thinking with your soul is much different. A gut decision , you may call it. But,
why would a functioning being, with a valid reason, chose to voluntarily murder a soul, another one,
similar to yours? The government is a social

Similarities Between Genesis And The Truman Show
In both the Truman Show and Genesis there is a main creator. Christof, in The Truman Show, is the
director of a programme that stars a man called Truman Burbank. Christof controls majority of the
things that happen inside of the television program and within his creations. God, in the bible, created
the world and everything that it holds. God has power over two people he creates in the story of
Genesis. The product of both creators are also extremely alike, Truman showing a lot of qualities that
Adam shows. The two creators differ in ways of control and their decisions made. Although they have
differences, there are many parallels to how they handle their power over their creations.
One of the main points of similarity include where the main story is the set. In The Truman Show, the
director, Christof, creates a real building in the shape of a dome and names it Seahaven. In the bible
God made a dome and named it sky. Both stories show a perfectly clean and perfect place for the main
characters to live. The dome in The Truman show is shown to be a stereotypically clean, small
American town. Similarly, the dome in the bible is shown as a beautiful place to live filled with
everything someone living there could need. Inside the dome in Genesis, Lord God took some soil
from the ground and formed a man out of it. God created humans to live inside the dome he made
whereas Christof put actors inside the dome.
The scene starts with Truman looking in the bathroom mirror. It

The Andy Griffith Show was set in a small town, during the early 1950 s, everyone knows everyone by name. The location of both shows sets the stage for the storylines to come. In one of the episodes we watched Lucy tried to get the answers to a radio show she signed them up for as she found out Desi was not as smart as he made himself seem. • 5. The State Of The Electoral College Tyranny naturally arises out of democracy. These words from the Greek philosopher Plato summarize the most fundamental concern of the delegates to the Constitutional Convention when they considered what the best way to conduct presidential elections would be. While, in concept, democracy sounds like the fairest form of government, in practice, it is less than ideal. Fear of tyranny of the majority prompted discussion over how the president should be elected. The Founders chose the Electoral College which incorporates democracy, federalism, and republicanism for presidential selection, because it provided for the best balance of power. While he agreed that the sense of the people should operate in the choice of the [president], he made clear the importance of afford[ing] as little opportunity as possible to tumult and disorder. This would require the will of the people to be tempered by an intermediate body of electors. Not only would this be a compromise between the competing ideas in the Constitutional Convention, it would prevent any one group from having undue discretion when it came to electing the most powerful person in government. Of these competing ideas, two are prominently reflected in the Electoral College. The first is democracy, an idea largely advanced by Alexis de Tocqueville in Democracy in America. Democracy, loosely defined as the direct representation of people in government, seems the most logical way to conduct an election. The second is federalism. Understanding how this could become problematic, the founders decided to include states in the election process. According to Federalist 68, this would allow the people of each State [to] choose a number of persons as electors...who shall assemble...and vote for some fit person as President. This balance of individual and state discretion would soon be codified in Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution. The Electoral College has remained steadfast in our ever changing world. What ... • 6. Vivaldi Instrumedeley Analysis The two concerts I have chosen are different in many ways, but the music itself has a lot in common. For the first concert I chose the progressive rock group Dream Theater. I chose the piece Instrumedley from their Live at Budokan video released in 2004. This video depicts the band setup on stage in the typical rock concert format. The lighting is bright and multicolored. Unlike most rock concerts, the musicians do not animate themselves to excite the crowd. They rely on the mastery of their instruments to provide the excitement. The second concert is a performance of Vivaldi s Concerto Grosso in D minor. It is performed by the Franz Listz Chamber Orchestra. The setting is that of a small gothic church in Hungary. There is no audience as the venue is used solely for the acoustics. The band Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985. (21 marks) Marxism is a macro/structural approach to society, meaning that it looks at the large scale societal structure for answers about how society works and operates and explores crime and deviance in relation to classes within a capitalist society. Marxists claim that laws do not reflect a value consensus, instead laws and law enforcement benefits the rich (protection of private property), and discriminate the poor which brings about social class reproduction, the working class are criminalised for their crimes but the criminal just system are more lenient towards the crimes of the wealth such as white collar crime or ... What are the strengths and limitations of this theory in understanding the recognition of gay and lesbian marriage? Power overlaps between interest and political groups and as a result, political decision making is reached through negotiation and compromise (Manley 1983). The classical pluralist model is distinguished by its example of power being relatively dispersed and that decision making is open to a variety of interest groups. In Australia, scholarship has settled upon what Monsma and Soper describe as pragmatic pluralism (1997) based upon political expediency, explained by the practical character of Australian culture and in the context of same sex marriage, an interest in giving a fair go (Sky News Australia 2015). The most important predictions about same sex marriage and politics amount to the flow on political participation and organization of interests. This is a topic Australian people are interested in. This tenet of Dahl s organizational pluralism urges individuals to query the conditions of rights, ritual and state recognition in Australia (Dahl 1978). In this way, classical pluralism s strength in relation to the marriage equality topic is that it speaks to a future where diverse relationships are supported, instead of denied and shamed. Australian classical pluralist theory is a conventional corpus, and its core ideas offer one of the more relevant power analyses regarding polarized concerns for morality in the same sex marriage debate. Political theorist, Galston, argues that there is a strong case for pluralism being the most adequate account of the moral universe mankind inhabits (1999). If this is the case, then the pendulum ... • 20. Analysis Of Growing Up In Eleven By Sandra Cisneros Growing up is something that everyone goes through. As one grows older they feel differently about growing up. A young kid wants to grow up and going out into the real world, then that same kid grows up a bit and faces the reality of life and doesn t want to grow old, but instead wants to go back, the last phase is just accepting the fact that this is happening no matter what. The first stage is wanting to grow up and looking forward to it. The story Eleven by Sandra Cisneros shows the perspective of an eleven year old going through a tough situation: I wish I was anything but eleven, because I want today to be far away already, far away like a runaway balloon, like a tiny o in the sky, so tiny you have to close your eyes to see it (248). This little girl has no idea what growing up is, she believes that being older will fix everything, this shows how differently someone thinks when they re younger and more naive. Cisneros says, Today I wish I was one hundred and two instead of eleven because if I was one hundred and two I d have known what to say when Mrs. Price put the red sweater on my desk (247). • 21. The Relationship Between Flexibility Benefits Used And... The article by Cicei (2015) discusses one of the greatest challenges to families in today s society, which is work family conflict. In the workforce today, and in numerous households people struggle with being able to balance family time and the responsibilities of their chosen career without creating disturbance within their home. As a way to lessen these disputes corporations have begun to provide certain benefits, organizations, and flexible work arrangements to their employees. However, in recent studies that examine the use of flexible work arrangements and reduced levels of work family conflict no significant results of reduced disturbance has been reported (Cicei, 2015). Since there have been no significant results Cicei (2015) conducted a study in this article to examine the relationship between the flexibility benefits used and work family conflict, focusing especially on the role flextime and telecommuting (Cicei, 2015). To validate whether flexible work arrangements have a negative effect on work and family conflict, the conducted study examined the relationship between the use of flexible work arrangements and three forms of work family conflict. The flexible work arrangements utilized in the study included flextime, compressed workweek, telecommuting, and part time work (Cicei, 2015). The three forms of work conflict were time based, strain based, and behavior based (Cicei, 2015). The participants consisted of 102 individuals who worked in IT, education, and ... Throughout the article Rod articulated his viewpoints on the variety of philosophies involved in legitimizing the science of marketing research and sought to establish his own perspective of what he actually believes marketing research should accomplish. To further balance his commentary, Rod also looked at the unpopular aspect of the philosophy of science in marketing, the philosophies that dictate how market research should be conducted to make a real contribution to society. In quoting Frank Bass on his editorial comment to put it all together Gains in fundamental knowledge have been substantial, but, more importantly, what has transpired has been the development of a system for further development of science in marketing (p. 124.) Whilst Rod continued in his literature review to explore further philosophies, Critique Rod s conceptual paper on Marketing: the philosophy of science and epistobabble warfare was not an easy paper that one could read and understand on the first go. If the topic is not within the subject area of the reader, then the article further becomes an epistobabble full of isims and schisms that one would have to ponder on for days. There is no denying that the reader had to do additional research to fully comprehend Rod s commentary on the philosophical perspectives involved in conducting a market research. Nevertheless, by stating his background in medicine where research was/is conducted with less philosophical debates, save ethical ones the transition for Rod to an area with documented philosophies in search of truths was a transition for him. James Fenimore Cooper set the bar with the archetypal traits that define American literature, appearing from books like The Last of the Mohicans to current films like Indiana Jones s adventure Raiders of the Lost Ark. Three of the archetypal traits that appear in both timeless classics and current masterpieces are a brave faultless hero, daring rescues, and loyal companions. The first and most important part of almost any story is its hero. What makes the heroes in American Romantic literature so special is their bravery, skillfulness, and faultlessness. The main hero in The Last of the Mohicans, Natty Bumppo, is a brave and skilled Native American who makes wise decisions and never makes a mistake. He may be temporarily overcome by the enemy, but he always bounces back and takes what is his, through reasoning with a chieftain or through force against a military leader. Similarly, Indiana Jones is also brave and skilled with a whip, but he is less faultless. His fear of snakes deters him in some situations, but he always overcomes his fear to save the day.
