Nursing Research Critique Utilization Plan Paper
Part 1 Article Selection Qualitative research is investigations which use sensory methods such as
listening or observing to gather and organize data into patterns or themes. Qualitative research deals
more often with language than numbers. Methods of gathering information might be focus groups
or interview panels. It uses a flexible research design and utilizes an inductive process to formulate a
theory. The idea is to get in depth information from the participants. The purpose is to understand
and interpret social interactions. Quantitative research is scientific investigations in which numbers

This study used a retrospective clinical audit design that involved a review of medical records of
children who had surgery of the lower limb (Shrestha Ranjit Manias, 2010). The study reviewed
other studies and surveys done on the subject of postoperative pain management in children. Data
can be collected and analyzed. Clinical audits of pain documentation are an effective way of
researching, other studies can be created, and surveys can be used. A conceptual model or
framework was not identified by the researchers. This study is not based on a theory or
conceptual model. The researchers researched the background, posed a research question, selected
a design, a sample was chosen, an instrument was created, and then data was collected and
analyzed. The basis of the study was not to test a hypothesis or theory, but to answer the research
question. The sources listed in the references are dated from 1986 through 2008 (Shrestha Ranjit
Manias, 2010). The majority of the references are journal articles. There was a hospital council and
audit protocol reference also included. The references are extremely limited. There are other
sources that could have been utilized like the American Medical Association and American Nursing
Association. The literature reviewed by the researchers was organized into topics. The topics are
pain assessment, pain management, and pain documentation. The literature review was followed a

An Evaluation Of An Anterior Cruciate Ligament ( Acl ) Tear
An anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear occurs in one of the knee ligaments that join the bones of
the upper and lower leg, keeping the knee stable. After reconstructive surgery patients need
extensive rehabilitation and healing time before even considering any physical activity. ACL
reconstructions are common amongst people, it has been difficult for surgeons and physicians to
come to an agreement on rehabilitation regarding these patients returning back to health. Many
physicians are trying to come to a consensus as to what rehabilitation criteria is necessary and what
will most benefit their patients, providing them with a quick, yet efficient recovery. The objective
in question, is whether an accelerated approach is more efficient than the traditional rehabilitation
techniques. Using an accelerated program has show developmental progress with extreme
improvement in flexion of the knee, while bypassing a traditional approaches time span of recovery.
As far as traditional rehabilitation goes, studies have shown that there is a significant decrease in re
ingury of the knee. Observed in theses four articles, is randomized test that concise a professional
opinion on what program physicians find more effective. In support of Preventing re injury after

How To Write A Journal Of A Mentor Surgery Center
Name of Student: Caitlin McCarthy Date: 12/20/16 12/21/14
Name of Agency: Mentor Surgery Center Supervisor: Tracy Vitolo Week #:2 Hours worked: 19
Total number of hours worked: 36.5
Note here a narrative of your activities and learning for the week.
On Monday, the surgery center was closed because of the holiday so I got the day off.
On Tuesday, I completed eight hours of my internship from 8:00 am 4:00 pm. From 8:00 am
1:00 pm, I assisted in making patient charts for surgery on Wednesday. There were a lot of patient
charts to make because patients are trying to get surgeries in before the end of the year. I learned
that patients try to get the surgery in before the end of the year because when the New Year starts

Tracy was really worried about their exit diagrams around the hospital that they aren t up to code.
So when I was reading I focused on finding out about the exit diagrams. So you re probably
wondering what an exit diagram is so let me explain. When you walk into any hospital or surgery
center really any building you will see a picture on the wall saying, You are here on what looks
like a picture hanging on the wall. So the rule in the handbook about fire safety is that the
surgery center has to have one in every part of the building, the bigger the building the more exit
diagrams the facility needs to have. So as I got to reading in the handbook it made it very clear
that these exit diagrams should be easy to read and understand. So after I read that part I took a
walk around the facility just to see what their exit diagrams even looked like. I hadn t paid much
attention to this so I was curious to see what they looked like. As I walked around the facility
looking at the different exit diagrams the more I felt like they were the furthest from easy to
understand. So after I was done taking my walk around the surgery center I went into Tracy s
office she asked me what I read and what I had focused on in the reading today. So I told her
about the exit diagrams and what they needed to pass code for when they get surveyed in the
upcoming months. I asked her to come with me so I could show her some things, we then took a
walk around the facility I asked her how easy she thought these exit diagrams were to read. Tracy
looked at me and said you know I ve never really looked at the exit diagrams because I know this
place like the back of my hand, I ve been here for so long she said to me. So I asked do you
understand this or think it is easy to read, she said no, to be honest with you it is very confusing.
So after that, I told her how there need to be two points

Essay Rulemaking by Cornelius Kerwin
According to Cornelius Kerwin, Rulemaking is the single most important function performed by
agencies of governmentВ…Rulemaking refines, and in some instances defines, the mission of
every government agency. In so doing it provides direction and content from budgeting, program
implementation, procurement, personnel management, dispute resolution, and other important
government activities (Preface XI). This is the foundation for the book, Rulemaking. The whole text
primarily revolves around this statement. Throughout the book Kerwin s central theme is that
rulemaking is the single most important function that any government agencyhas within its

The book starts out strong and extremely informational, slows down extremely in the middle

texts and especially those dealing with admin law, Kerwin used many current policies and
procedures. By this text being more up to date it allows the readers to associate more current
affairs. It brings to the table many examples within the Clean Air Act and Medicaid. The cases
and explanations are thoroughly defined and easy to follow. Kerwin also discusses strategies
chosen by various Presidents, and Congressional members to control the rulemaking/policy

that limit the powers of the agencies so that they cannot stray from the path that Congress intends
for them, to threatening to reduce agency budgets if they do not comply. The con s: The author

Community Property In The United States
In Wisconsin if you are married then is called community property which means that people who
are married will inherit everything unless they have children will inherit half of the community
property only if they would have acquired any property before they were married. If you are not
married then it will go to your legal children where they are adopted, foster children, or
grandchildren. The state will rarely get your property unless there is absolutely no one that can
claim your property. Most people do not have a living will which can cause problems especially

wishes were granted when she had passed, but unfortunately when she past the son that was
living with the mother drained all of her accounts and started selling off her stuff even before his

asked if he could sell her things and take all of her money. It turned out that she did have a living

who got what. After about three months one of their mothers friends you had kept the will and
gave it to both Jack and John. Needless to say that John won his case and was ordered to pay
back half of everything that he took and for the items that he sold. When people do not have

Energy Drinks Vs Energy Drink Research
When we started our research project, I had tons and tons of ideas of what I could research. All
these ideas were like new tabs opening and exploding in my brain, then it came to me, Energy
Drinks. My parents very rarely let me have a Red Bull or a Monster Energy, and I hoped that by
researching more about the drink, I would find the answer to why they have restricted this drink
from me. On the first day of research, I only knew three things, 1: they are bad for your health 2:
they have high amounts of caffeineand 3: they are packed with sugar. Most people already know
these things about energy drinks, but I wanted to go a step further and find out what really
happens when you take a sip of Red Bull. By choosing this topic, I hoped to... Show more content

drinks have on us? We could petition to the stores and have them cut back on their sales, talk to
the company s and the government and have them remove the labeling that is targeted at kids.
The last thing we can do is educate everyone around on on just how bad energy drinks are. This
information is very helpful to me because it will help me make better decisions the next time I

Tourette s Syndrome Research Paper
Tourette s syndrome is a disorder which affects the motor and verbal ability of a person suffering
from the disorder. We chose this disorder because it was an interesting disorder to research and
discuss. One of the reasons that it was interesting to us, is that it comes in many different forms
and intensities. Another is that, it is a moderately uncommon disorder which sparked our interest
to look into it more. Our final reason for choosing the syndrome was, that we found out that the
disease changes with people constantly over time. Tourette s was most likely discovered in 1884
by Georges Albert Г‰douard Brutus Gilles de la Tourette. He discovered the illness after his
mentor, Jean Martin Charcot, assigned him to study illnesses characterized by sudden outbursts. In
an article published by Gilles, Tourette s was described as having the following: childhood onset,
hereditability, stereotyped movements, repetition of spoken words and foul language, etc. At the
time, Gilles was only able to accurately document the illness... Show more content on

Christianity, Judaism, And Christianity
In my opinion if you would have asked me this one year ago if there was afterlife, I would of
told you no. Once upon a time I believe when you die you stay in the ground and your soul would
stay there as well. I couldn t imagine that there was a hell, heaven (paradise to some) or even a
purgatory. That all change a few month ago when I learn that some people and some religion might
believe what they want to. In this essay I have picked three religion Islam, Judaism, and Christianity
to explain what each of them have and to be able to show the similarity and difference among them
about the afterlife. Although each religion has its own goal, they however are similar in belief. I
have found that these three religion are known as the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No one know really know how the Heaven looks like only to be known as a wonderful and
beautiful place. There is also a place that most Christian Catholic believe if you aren t meant to be
sent to Hell or Heaven, there is a third place to be sent to call Purgatory. Purgatory is where most
Christians stay until called for to see if they deserve to be in the heaven. The Protestants do not
believe in purgatory. Now all we have to worry about is when we die, let hope we have no sin
and that for our past sins where wash away and those who did not serve God and have god in
their life, will be judged by their deeds. As for Judaism, there is no forever between good souls
and evil souls which in other religion such as Christianity and Islam. Judaism believe that the
devil can be in heaven. As for Judaism they believe that death is not the end of human life.
However, they are more focus on life now then think about the afterlife. They can believe
whatever they want to believe but the souls of the good people who have die will go to similar
heaven or to some they will be that reincarnated, or some will wait until the coming of the
messiah , where they will be able to relive. Unlike other Judaism Jews they believe that the evil
souls will be torture by demons of their own thoughts, or that evil souls will die and not to live ever
again.
As for Islam they believe in the Paradise or Jinnah, which be similar to

The Log Cabin Republicans is an organization that helps build a more stronger union of equality,
free market, individual liberty and many more . They have chosen to start this party for the sole
purpose of helping to stop the intolerance towards gays and lesbians. The name Log Cabin came
from President Abraham Lincolnwho was born in a log cabin, so they chose to name it after him.
Not only was he the inspiration for the name he was also an inspiration for the faction. The
original name of the faction was Lincoln Club but the name was already taken by another
Republican (GOP) group so they had to change it to something else. The faction was built on

The World s Largest Population
From the 3.68 billion people that will be added to the world population between 1995 and 2050,
Asia will contribute some 2 billion. This enormous increase is due to the already massive size of
the population. Most of this growth will occur in the next three decades. Between 1995 and 2025
Asia s populationwill grow by 1.35 billion between 2025 and 2050 the increase is projected to be
just 658 million. China is the world s largest population, estimated to be around 1.24 billion in
1998. It grows at a rate of 1.3% per year or 44,100 people a day. There are now more people
living in China than whole world 150 years ago. The population broke the billion mark in the 1982
census, the results of which provided the justification for the strict one child policy which
effectively curbed rapid population growth. In the 1990 census, China counted 1.133 billion people,
over the next decades the world populationwill inevitably age. This is an unavoidable consequence
of large birth cohorts during the 1950s and 1960s and the rapid fertility decline since the 1970s. In
2025 the baby boomers of the 1950s and 60s will be between 65 and 75 years of age. These large
aging cohorts are followed by the relatively small baby bust generations of the worldwide
fertility decline. In 1950 there were only 131 million people of age 65 and older; in 1995 their
number had almost tripled and was estimated at 371 million. Between now and 2025 the number
will more than double again; and by 2050 we

User Interfaces ( Ui s )
User interfaces (UI s) are a core feature in just about every modern software application. Games
are no exception to this rule. The vast majority of games utilize some form of UI to display
information such as health, skills, maps, ammo for a weapon, and more. Unity 3D offers a
variety of UI elements that you can use in your game. In this post, I ll provide instructions on how
to create a simple Pause menu in Unity. The Pause Menu will display text that says Paused and it
will have three buttons; Resume, Retry and Quit. It will also display the game time since the scene

Drunk Driver And Drunk Drivers
In 2013, 10,076 people died because of drunk drivers. One every 52 minutes.
290,000 were injured because of the accidents (MADD). In 2012, 3,328 people died because of
car crashes due to the fact that drivers were on their phones. 421,000 were injured (Texting and
Driving Statistics).
Driving is not an easy task so you should always be attentive to what you re doing. A big
difference between both is being sober and being drunk. Someone that s drunk isn t fully aware of
what s going on. Someone who is sober but is on their phone is more dangerous because they aren t
looking at what s ahead. Even though both drunk driving at texting while driving are different, the
thing that s most important for both is to keep yourself as well as the people around you safe.
The exact definition of drunk is being in a temporary state in which one s physical and mental
faculties are impaired by an excess of alcoholic drink (Dictionary).
When someone s drunk they are not functioning at their 100%. You will never ask someone to
make an important decision while they re drunk. So why would someone who is drunk drive?
Usually they think they aren t as drunk and are able to drive safely.
That is not a good idea. Driving while drunk can cause a serious accident which will harm you and
the person who you might run over. Be safe and be aware.

The Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster
The Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster Case 1: Case study of Challenger Space Shuttle Disaster
Table of Contents Abstract 4 Overview 5 Background Information 5 Problem Statement 6 Initial
Investigation 6 Detailed Analysis 6 Recommendation 10 References 11 Abstract In this paper
we will study the Challenger space shuttle disaster in detail. Our focus will be on different
aspects of this event such as the many purposes which were served by the Challenger space
shuttle; we will also specifically focus on the media s role regarding this event and see how it
affected the entire situation. Overview When a disastrous event like the Challenger (which was
also known as STS 51L) shuttle explosion occurs, the reaction from the media greatly affects the
public opinion. In any disaster event the public support for the mission is greatly affected and
this factor can greatly jeopardize any further missions since the public has a huge amount of
interest where their funding goes. It is also seen that the media skew its reports just for the sake
of higher ratings. Background Information The space shuttle challenger disaster took place on
January 28, 1986. It was a space launch mission conducted by NASA which failed and exploded
in air just 73 seconds after liftoff. The seven member crew in the space died. It is said that they did
not die on the initial explosion but later after the Challenger landed. The tragedy and its
consequences attracted wide media attention

Gender Discrimination in Boys and Girls by Alice Munro
Children are more prone to be obedient towards their parental figures (heteronomous obedience)
while growing up. In the short story Boys and Girls by Alice Munro, life during the twentieth
century is portrayed. The narrator, who has portrayed herself as a nameless young girl, struggles
for freedom from inequality in her society. The disobedience in Boys and Girls is clarified in Erich
Fromms essay, Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem (DPMP). The narrator of
Boys and Girls goes through different phases of obedience due to her authoritarian and humanistic
conscience (Fromm 10). Also, by being disobedient she has control of her own authorities.
Humanistic conscience stops her from doing something inhuman and or from being guilty; it s the
inner voice. As well as her comfort levels and the changes of her obedience impact her much to her
surprise. The young girlis well aware of what happens around her and is disobedient because of her
humanistic conscience , which has her in a battle against genderbinary and stereotypes.
The girl is young; she has no place to go, so therefore doesn t really have the option to disobey
her parents. The little girl is obedient to her parents when they are around. She does what she is
told to and helps her parents by doing some work at home. The girl helped her father [work
outside] when he cut the long grass, and the lamb s quarter and also helped [carry] water (Munro).

Rites Of Passage In The Glass Castle
As we grow older, we develop by passing through the rites of passages. These rites are commonly
portrayed in literary works and in movies. An example of a work that contains the rites of passage
would be The Glass Castle, by Jeannette Walls. This book is a memoir about her life as a child
with parents who could never settle down. She worked herself from the bottom up, and continues to
strive as a published author and journalist. Although The Glass Castle, by Jeannette Walls, contains
many rites of passage, the three most prominent would be loss, risk taking, and achieving a goal. In
her memoir, Jeannette struggled with loss because of her familys lifestyle. As Jeanette put it, on
page 19, We were always doing the skedaddle . . . The Walls constantly moved to avoid police
and the idea of settling down. When moving, the family usually moved to remote locations,
working odd jobs for money. Another example of of loss in Jeannette s life is when her parents
threw her cat out of the car. Her mother claimed, Cat s don t like travel, on page 18. Jeannette
said, [My father] stopped the car, grabbed Quixote by the scruff of the neck, and tossed him out
the window. Her father sped up the car and drove off, leaving the cat in the dust behind them. In
addition to the lossof her cat, Jeannette s grandmother passed away. Although, Jeannette was not
very close to her grandmother, she mourned the loss of her family member. Although loss is
prominent in Jeannette s life,

highlights the considerable deprivation of political rights which is a key theme within this
question, the overall feeling from source z is that the system which Hitler installed was not
successful, however, it can be strongly argued that is was, as seen in source y, his manipulation of
the lower classes provided Hitler with what can only be described as a mass following.
Both source y and z suggest that Hitler understood workers mentality; in contrast source aa
suggests that the regime believed Strength through Joy could have an ideological impact. What
this source, written by Richard Evans, shows is that the workers had no understanding, nor did
they care for politics, which is a strong contradiction to the theme in source z. It is suggested that
the working classes just saw the holidays as an escape from everyday life. However, where this
source is lacking is its lack of content over the cultural aspects of the holidays. It states that they
were appreciated , but is not conclusive as to whether the workers were won over by Nazism via the
programme. The general consensus as the end of this source is reached is that the programme was

Biography of Hermann Ludwig Ferdinand Helmholtz
Background Hermann Ludwig Ferdinand Helmholtz was born August 31, 1821 in Potsdam, Prussia
to the Potsdam Gymnasium instructor of philosophy and literature, August Ferdinand Julius
Helmholtz and Caroline Penn, descendent of William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania (Cite brit).
A product of a rich, intellectual environment, Helmholtz grasped complex concepts in various
academic subjects. His father introduced him to philosophies that inspired him to broaden his
mindset and explore English, Science, and Mathematics, which led to an overwhelming interest in
languages (including English and Italian), music, nature philosophy, art and physiology. A student
of the gymnasium, Hermann von Helmholtztouched on subjects ranging from theoretical physics,
to the age of the Earth, to the origin of the solar system (cite wiki). He showed great promise as a
scholar and was bound to be a success.
After graduating in 1837, Helmholtz was awarded a free medical education at the Royal Friedrich
Wilhelm Medical Institute of Medicine and Surgery on the condition that he serve eight years in the
army as a doctor; he accepted the offer and enrolled at the institution in Berlin in 1838 (cite groups).
While there, he did research under the paramount German physiologist, perhaps the greatest known
to date, Johannes MГјller (cite brit); studying works on mathematics by Daniel Bernoulli, Biot and

Why Fort Huachuca Is A Training Base Just Outside The City...
Through the field, we marched, through the mud we crawled but the Sierra Vista mall is where I
encountered the most enchanting hunter, a young soldier could ve faced. Fort Huachuca is a
training base just outside the city of Sierra Vista, Arizona and home to many fledgling soldiers. A
perfect place to house kiosks that encouraged shopping for essential living items including
entertainment systems. The sales representative preached a lifestyle that only the wealthy could

systems to pass the time. The man of tricks seduced me with his promising words.

As graduation day came to an end and our families left, we packed our gear. Goodbyes were
heartfelt, as we all left to our new stations. A few months later I was settled into a new home. I
lived in Fort Huachuca, Arizona. I was finally free from any purchase supervision and able to buy
what fantasized about back in basic training. The mall was mine.
Roaming the mall I was stopped by an older man with a crew cut hairstyle. His name was Mike
and his words flowed out like a commander. He asked me about myself and what brought me to
the mall. With great excitement, I told him my tail and in return, he told me his. He lured me
into a state of security by letting me know he used to be in the Army and commanded many
soldiers like me. He told me he loved his new job because he helped a lot of the new soldiers
furnish their empty spaces. He reminded me how little teenage soldiers knew about financial
responsibility.
Mike asked me to pick out all the items I could afford that day, so I did. I had picked out an
Xbox 360 and a small 32 TV. Mike nodded his head and asked me what I wanted, well the list
grew long. He priced out everything I wanted and it came out to approximately $2,500. I scoffed
because the price was outstanding and would leave me broke. He then led me through a new plan
that would allow me to take everything I wanted and pay nothing up front. In disbelief, I asked
how. He explained that if I wanted to buy a home someday I needed great

Immigration On The United States
Immigration has emerged as a hot topic of concern over the last couple of decades but in reality
the problem of immigration goes far beyond the realms of recent decades. With President Trump
s intentions to build a wall to stop Mexicans from entering U.S. to the proposed ban of 7 nations,
immigration has never been a more prevalent problem. The recent years however have given birth
to a form of immigration that was not considered to be dominant before, refugees and displaced
people are viewed differently from people who colonized various parts of the world in the early
17th, 18th and 19th century. Today when one thinks of immigrants, Middle Eastern, Indians and

Globalisation has become a more commonly used word to describe how companies are operating,
positioning themselves and how the world economies behave and react. Globalisation is how
businesses, economies are becoming more interconnected due to the increased trade, social and
cultural exchange. Globalisation has increased the production of goods and services and the largest
companies are no longer national companies but multinational corporations with subsidiaries in
many countries.
The reasons behind this movement of globalisation is mainly based to the organisations like WTO

Spotify vs. Pandora
In the 21st century a battle over how music is delivered has begun. No longer is terrestrial radio
the only way in which listeners can discover new music, revisit nostalgic favorites and connect
with their respective age groups. Online digital radio outlets have become obvious replacements
for men and women between the ages of 18 34. In this day and age individuals have a surplus of
options when it comes to accessing music. However, many have moved away from physical
products and the technologies/outlets of times past. There are two prominent companies waging
this war: Spotify and Pandora. Competition between the two programs seemed inevitable. And now,

Pandora. Spotify recently launched twelve new apps backed by the major labels. Pandora lacks
such deals, as do many other services. Because of this, Pandora pays a hefty sum in royalties a
significant strike against its business model пїЅ. Due to the absence of deals with the major record
labels that Spotify has, Pandora not only struggles with expanding its music library but also with
maintaining a feasible monetary system. Pandora operates annually at a loss of millions due to
complicated digital streaming rights and bandwidth costs. If the service cannot combat the Spotify

is obvious: what will Pandora do to combat the increasing strength of Spotify and their listener

Tiempo de Silencio Essay
The context in which Tiempo de Silencio was published, as well as the setting and themes of the
book seem to reflect the official censorship that existed in Spain at the time. However, if one reads
the novel from a philosophical instead of sociological perspective then the influence of censorship
could be viewed as secondary to the purpose and themes of the text.
Luis MartГn Santos novel Tiempo de Silencio was written and published during the time of Franco

The Pros And Cons Of Plagiarism
In a world surrounded by phones, computers, and other technological devices, information is
always just a click away. School work has become more clicking and typing, and less reading
and writing. When kids get an assignment to read a book and do a book report on it, laziness
kicks in, and they go to the internet to look up a summary. Then what they do is copy and paste
other people s writings into their paper. What a majority of kids do not know is that this is
considered plagiarismand it is illegal. Plagiarism is something that is very common in today s world
and although it is common and a great deal of people do it, it is still illegal and wrong
Plagiarism, defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary is to commit literary theft or to present
as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source . What this means in
simpler words is that plagiarism stealing someone else s words or ideas and using them as if they
were your own. It is considered plagiarism even if you forget to put quotation marks around the
information you are using. While reading the article ВЁWhat is Plagiarism?ВЁ the reader learns
that although it may not seem like a big deal to copy what someone else said online or in a book, it
is actually breaking the U.S. law. For example, if a music composer wanted to write a new piece of
music they would research and spend time trying to think about what their piece is going to consist
of. If the composer were to take words from another piece

Children As Enemies By Ha Jin
A breakaway from tradition also includes a breakaway from family in the case for author Ha Jin s
short story, Children as Enemies. The story focuses on immigrant Chinese grandparents from the Xi
family who came to America to be with their son and his children, only to be driven away by their
grandchildren s hostility towards everything Chinese that started with their dislike for their
traditional names. The children are trying to Americanize themselves as much as they can while the
grandparents are trying to keep everything as traditional as they can whereas the son of the
grandparents tries to act as a neutral barrier of sorts that ultimately fails when the grandparents
move out. The short story takes on the numerous themes but mainly the clash of cultures and how
one s heritage can potentially dwindle from one generation to the next. Qigan and Hua Xi are the
grandchildren of the focalizer, who are unhappy with their first and familyname as well with just
about everything else that resembled their family culture, save for some food they enjoy. It is
noted how important a character, as well as all people s names are, as noted by characterization.
The protagonist notes this fact, having sought all the names of his family from the prosperity of a
fortune teller. The children and their parents pay no mind to this, abiding the children s wish for a
new name. Slowly but surely, a break from tradition is forming. Something especially important
however, is their attendance to

Importance Of Naturalism In Maggie, A Girl Of The Streets
Naturalist literature incorporates scientific ideologies, and the studies of humans lives,
environment, and forces of inheritance. Survival is a particularly significant theme in Naturalist
fiction. Often Naturalist fiction is narrated from a detached, clinical narrative voice. The narrator,
Maggie, is an exemplary example of an unconnected character. This relation adds to the scientific
perspective of the work. Ideas of Social Darwinism and the survival of the fittest are incorporated
in the novel by the author. A writer like Crane also uses literary methods such as imagery to further
the perspectives of Naturalism. Stephen Cranes nineteenth century story, Maggie: a Girl of the
Streets, illustrates naturalism and scientific perspective through the narrativevoice, Social
Darwinism ideologies, and literary techniques.
Well exemplified in Maggie, a Girl of the Streets, Naturalist fictionis often narrated from a
detached, clinical narrative voice. Naturalists tend to evaluate society scientifically. They analyze
their surroundings; however, they rarely get too involved or emotionally attached to their
community. Naturalistic writers thus used a version of scientific method to write their novels; they
studied human beings governed by forces of heredity and environment. (Campbell, 1) Literature
that is naturalistic regularly attempts to apply scientific principles in writing. Campbell s quote
further examines the specific intention in the mind of naturalists. Naturalists

The Effects of Differing Response-Force Requirement in...
Introduction Previous research have demonstrated that avoidance responding is influenced by
shock intensity and duration (Leander, 1973; de Souza et al., 1984; Badia et al., 1973). Powell
(1970) investigated the effect of two shock intensities in single and multiple avoidance schedules
and found that the higher shock intensity was generally more effective in producing avoidance
responding. Leander (1973) investigated the effects of shock intensity and duration on free operant
avoidance. The results indicated that shock intensity and shock duration combine in a
multiplicative fashion to determine the avoidance performance. The relation between shock
intensity and shock duration suggested that longer shock durations can be substituted with lower
shock intensities (Leander, 1973). The increased strength and magnitude of shock predicted higher
rates of avoidance responding. However, there seems to be a minimum threshold for shock to
establish and maintain avoidance responding. De Souza et al. (1984) found that there are individual
differences in sensitivity to shock. There was a minimum shock intensity necessary to establish and
maintain avoidance responding; and intensities higher than this minimum value had little or no
effect on responding (de Souza et al., 1984). This suggests that once the range of minimum
threshold sensitivity to shock for individuals in a group is identified, any shock intensity higher
than largest value in the range can potentially establish and

As if that wasn t enough Vlad made sure the oiled stake was not too sharp to make sure shock didn

Analysis Of The Movie Exit The King
Exit the King by Eugene Ionesco directed by Trey Irby in presentation with the Blue Masque
was a complete production that felt well explored and executed. The play itself is a somewhat
dark look into the fall of a king, his kingdom and final hours of his life. This much darker subject
matter is balanced with comic relief provided by the guard, the maid and occasional banter of the
king s two wives. A well flushed out script that examines such a timeless struggle as the delicate
balance of life and death poses immense challenge for those involved. While this challenge
occasionally made itself known, the acting body as a whole did a fine job at overcoming these
hurdles. The role of Queen Marguerite, played by Laurel Edge, was one of the most complex
roles to wrestle with and Edge took many of bold stances that went helped to more fully develop
what could have been essentially a bitchy antagonist into a three dimensional being with solid
intention from start to finish. Marguerite s objective from the moment she steps on stage is
clearly to end the life of the king, or rather help him to the end of his life since no explicit murder
takes place. Marguerite stops at nothing to pursuethis through whether her obstacle is Queen
Marie or the King himself. Edge was well open and able to play off the many others in the scene at
a time though this was not always obvious. She also had the clearest expectations. Her choices in
actions often times had her sitting away separately avoiding

Conformity And Social Conformity
Introduction
Conformity shapes our everyday decisions, whether it is acknowledged or not. How individuals
are perceived by society and our peers puts an immense pressure on a person both in groups and
privately, actively changing behavior that they may not normally take part in. An individual may
change their behavior due to the chance of becoming an outcast. The ultimate fear or possibility of
being an outcast influences individuals to conform to social norms. Psychological researchers have
long been interested in the reasoning behind social conformity. Social conformity can result in the
change of behavior or even the belief of an individual when it comes to them trying to fit within a
group. The change can be due to pressure from a social group. By looking deeper into group size
and familiarity, it is possible to accurately predict behavior for groups and individuals in the future.
In psychology, conformity is defined as the alteration of one s beliefs and behaviors to better match
those around you. There are typically two different forms of conformity, normative and
informational. Normative conformity is becoming compliant to group pressure with the want to fit
in. On the other hand, Information conformity refers to when a person looks to the group for
guidance when they lack knowledge in a certain area. Conformity also can range in different
levels such as from how people dress to how people act in public. This force is what drives even
the most simple of decisions that a person will make on a daily basis. As a result, these
individuals conform to other people s behaviors. For example, just like a public compliance,
which is when a person conforms to another s behavior even if they do not necessarily believe or
agree of the person s words or actions. In society, conformity puts pressure on citizens to either
conform to the laws they are given or face legal consequences. Conformity creates something

Global Climate Change By Jonathan Barnett And Larry Beasley
Global climate change is once again at the forefront of academic and political discussion. Recent
coastal flooding in the Northeastern United States, series of wildfire along the west coast, inland
flooding along the Mississippi corridor, and severe drought faced by California cities have instilled
a new sense of urgency to fight the effects of climate change. And once again Fordist planning
practices of neoliberal cities all over the world, along with their artifacts inherited from the
industrial era are under the crosshair. Resource hungry cities designed for the automobile,
extensive network of highways, hollowed out centers, and patterns of low density
suburbanization are some of the treasures of the past century that we are no longer proud of. Is it
possible to reverse the adverse effects of unsustainable planning practices of the past and put our
cities on a path to an ecologically balanced future? This volume by Jonathan Barnett and Larry
Beasley lays out the technological innovations of the twenty first century, and lessons from
successful implementation of environmentally sensitive designs by cities from all over the world
to carve a path that will possibly lead us to a future of truly eco friendly cities.
The book is divided into six chapters. In their introductory chapter, the authors frame their reasoning
around the reality of climate change and how urbanized areas are responsible for it. They posit that
the forces pushing for sustainable growth model for cities

Doughnuts In America
Doughnuts, who does not like them? They are the iconic American breakfast, and it ceases to
amaze me how much in love people are with these delicious yet little deadly treats. It is not
shocking at all that Americans will do anything for food; it is quite amusing that they will drive to a
Donut Bank (Donut Bank 1), go through the drive through for some doughnuts. The least they
could do is park their car, get off their lazy butts and walk themselves into the Bakery to purchase
the doughnut. Burn three calories before eating two hundred. Not only are Americans using drive
through for food, but now people can go to the Bank and pick up prescriptions from pharmacies.
It is sad enough that Americans use drive through more than just walking in,

FDA Approval Process
FDA Approval Process It is commonly documented that every drugs and medical devices brings
some risk or side effects. As a matter of fact, every year roughly approximately 1 2 drugs and 6 8
medical devices are discontinued from the U.S. market because of safety issue. Nevertheless,
the FDA is charged with assessing the protection and value of medical devices and drugs
assessing the advantages versus danger of every merchandise. Nonetheless, the FDA
authorization procedures that are utilized for drugs and devices may vary extensively through
the CDER. For instances the drug expansion program, takes about anywhere from 8 to 10 years,
and starts with a few pre clinical studies that evaluate genetic and safety activity in a variety of
animal models. Most manufacturers have to propose to the FDA in advance what is called an
Investigational New Drug (IND) request to show outcomes of preclinical testing before it can be
tried on humans. Typically studies in humans are carried out in four parts, three of which must

The Happiness Plunge Jean Baudrillard Analysis
Three Thinkers and their Realities: The Influence Parents Have on their Children Moreover
parents have an influence on their children I the color scheme they follow when they find out
the sex of their baby. When a women is expecting the first question people ask id what are you
having? A boy? Or a girl? Parets cannot help but to find out so they can start planning a tutu and
tiara baby shower or a sports themed baby shower. Parnets canot help but start planning what
options they will have for their kids, whether it has to do with dress code, colors, toys: two very
different themes that divide the sexes. Moreover, in the article. The Precession of Simulacra by

Many of those ideas have been reflected on The Happiness Plunge by Adam Pervez when he
explains how living the American dream and still not being happy can be very difficult. Of
course, all parents always have that specific sport we want our children to play, for example, if
you have a boy football is one of the number one choices for our children to play. But what about
if it s not atisfying our child, like to them it dosnt make them happy. In The Happiness Plunge,
Perez talks about how he was a field engennier, a business development specialist but it still wasn
t enough. This reflects the udea of your son bring the best quarter back of the team, compared to
other football teams he s still the best but he dosnt look forward to going to practice, or getting
out onto the field, to him it s just something he feels he has to do. This idea is reflected in Pervez
article when he says I was following a script for success written by someone else, or by society
(Pervez). A lot of the time parents unintentionally have their children follow a script that they
were taught by their parents. Parents are raising their children in a consensus reality which is a
reality that has been created by culture through practices, behaviors, shared beliefs, rules and
artifacts. Moreover, instead of parents letting their children choose to try something they are
intesred in or they try different things they have to stick to a script or to something they feel is
correct. In another example, Pervez tells how he identified writing, traveling, telling stories, and
helping others were his passions and decided to take the happiness plunge where to him, there
[was] more to life than the American Dream we ve been sold. In other words, parents tend to
stick to specific sport for their sons to playbeing that s the ideal sport for boys according to
society, so naturally that s what e have to

Comparing Kierkegaard s The Myth Of Sisyphus
In contrast to Kierkegaard s work, Albert Camus The Myth of Sisyphus did not use any
metaphysical connections to answer existential questions. In contrast to the leap of faith, Camus
believed we must embrace the absurd by living in it. According to Camus, there is no existential
meaning to life and therefore we must create our own meaning. We must extract meaning from
arts and explore the infinite possibilities of our creative minds. It was previously a question of
finding out whether or not life had to have a meaning to be lived. It now becomes clear, on the
contrary, that it will be lived all the better if it has no meaning 53 In embracing the absurd, we
receive a unique opportunity of seizing and embracing awareness.
It caught my attention me when Camus mentioned becoming a slave of our liberty. He prefaced
how even though we believe we are living a life of liberty and choices; ... Show more content on

I struggled to understand Kierkegaard because I myself don t believe in God so understanding
the leap and the concept of suspension in front of God was really hard to get past. Despite not
connecting to Kierkegaard s perspective, it makes sense. It makes sense that if we are finite beings
we must reach for faith because that is the only infinite form that can bridge our souls. However,
reading Campus was refreshing. Camus was a dose of positivity that made me think of shifting my
attitude and mindset towards life. Reflecting back, I do feel like my understanding of existentialism
has broaden not only my academic knowledge, but has shaken and shifted my beliefs as a person.
Despite not agreeing with some with some existential writers, it was not about agreeing or
disagreeing with these views as it was about understanding the different perspectives on life from an

Benefits of Sweatshops
The Benefit of Sweatshops

April 28th, 2011
Abstract: Many countries, industries and people are becoming more affected by sweatshops in
different ways because of they re continuous increase in growth. Sweatshops benefit many
developing countries as they provide opportunities of employment to the people living in poverty
and benefit the community at large by creating an economic infrastructure that utilizes the country
s resources and increases their tax base. These institutions first came into existence in the early
1800 s and were referred to as dwelling houses, which were local factories that generally had the

True womanhood created an ideology that was very beneficial to the textile industry (Hapke,
2001) as it was based strictly on a profit driven management system, which viewed its workers as
factory hands rather than domestic workers. Lowell Mills was a company that used this
ideology to it s full potential. The making of a product was broken down into specific categories
so that each person had a specific task and repeated that task over and over and over again.
Instead of one person making a product from start to finish, each person was given one task to
perform repeatedly. For example one person would be spinning the yarn while the next worker
would be weaving cloths (Hapke, 2001). This would increase productivity so that products could
be manufactured at a more efficient rate that would generate more profit. Between 1880 1940
tenement houses became the ideal place to produce garments. The term Sweatshop was beginning
to come into existence as the sweating system was commonly used during this time. In the lower
east side of New York, tenement houses reached an outrageous number of 35,000, which resulted
in a million and a half people working in these establishments (Hapke, 2001). The working
conditions in these houses were horrendous as they were terribly overcrowded to the point where it
was uncomfortable and unhealthy to work in the small, poorly ventilated rooms. The facilities were

Intelligence Test and Gifted Requirements Essay
Intelligence Test and Gifted Requirements
The Gifted program exists to provide more academic opportunities for those who qualify as gifted.
Gifted means performing or demonstrating the potential for performing at significantly higher
levels of accomplishment in one or more academic fields due to intellectual ability, when compared
to others of similar age, experience, and environment (Quoted in Gifted ). In order to make it into
the program the student must show higher intellectual ability than the average student at his or her
age, but what determines that factor? The student must take a multidimensional test and score in
the 98th percentile. However, the most weighted part of the test remains an average IQ test. ... Show

She states, In my 24 years as a gifted facilitator, there have been a handful, (3 5) students whose IQ
tests did not accurately reflect their intelligence. She also informed that if a student is close to
making the cut, they are given a second test in a year or two (Sebelius 1). Intelligence tests should
not remain the primary qualification to gain admittance in the gifted program because it allows
minorities and the economically disadvantaged to remain underrepresented in the program. The
minorities and the economically disadvantaged tend to score lower than the average gifted student;
as a result, they fail to gain admittance when they have actually proven qualified. The tests also
effect how they are feeling (sebuleus). If under privileged students feel negatively about their
situation it may affect the score of their test. Under their circumstances, they are not presented with
the same opportunities as other gifted students due to financial or environmental problems. These
problems can alter their psychological state ultimately undermining their score. However, they do
better on the test overall, as opposed to just the IQ segment of the test, but the IQ test still remains
more heavily weighted than other means of testing, when those other means of testing play a more

Criminal Trial And The Judicial System Of England And Wales

Hence, it gives equality in any decision made so after the hearing is adjourned, come different

proposal for reform in the admission of expert evidence, The Law Commission for England and
Wales observed that the the common law approach to the admissibility of expert opinion evidence
is one of laissez faire, with such evidence being admitted without sufficient regard to whether or
not it is sufficiently reliable to be considered by a jury (Akers, 2000). According to the
Commission, this approach is unsatisfactory and recommended that the admissibility of expert
evidence should be considered in the criminal investigation only if (1) it is provided beyond
reasonable doubt that the person who is called upon as an expert witness is skilled, experienced and
qualified to give such evidence or testimonies and (2) the court should properly scrutinize the
expert evidence to ensure it contains scientific principles which are admissible to the court and to
the case in question. Under the proposal of the commission, evidence, opinion or testimony over
a crime will only be admitted if the strength of the evidence is soundly based. For example, the
experts evidence would not be admitted in the court of law if (a) it is based on flawed data, (b) it
is based on an unjustifiable assumption, (c)

The Role Of Inhibitory Modulation Of Languages Among...
The Role of Inhibitory Modulation of Languages among Bilinguals
In a rich linguistic environment, where more than 7000 languages are spoken in 149 countries,
multilingualism and bilingualism are inevitable (Crystal, 2003; Grosjean, 2010). While the causes
of increased bilingualism and multilingualism can vary, the repercussions of this demographic shift
are wide reaching (O Brien, Curtin, Naqvi, 2014). Consequently, research on bilingualism and
multilingualism has also dramatically increased in the last few years in quantity, quality and breadth
(Bhatia William, 2013).
In the past two decades, series of discoveries has changed the way bilingualism was understood
(Kroll, Bobb, Hoshino, 2014). The consequences of bilingualism are not limited to native and
second language but appear to reflect reorganization of brain networks that hold implications for the
ways in which bilinguals negotiate cognitive competition more generally. The bilingual experience
for every individual is unique as it depends upon the context, linguistic proficiency, and purpose.
There is also a great variability in the amount and quality of exposure to the languages that the
individual learns. Due to this capriciousness in bilingual characteristics, defining bilingualism
becomes problematic and raises number of theoretical and methodological concerns (Hamers Blanc,
2000).
The term bilingualism is generally defined as an individual s ability to use two languages (ASHA,
2004; European

Just War and Pacifism Essay
The question Can war be justified? plagued mankind since the first war. The Just War Theory
holds that war can be just. The theory has evolved for thousands of years and modern theorists,
such as Michael Walzer, author of Just and Unjust Wars, puts forth criteria for a just war, such as
jus ad bellum and jus in bello. Jus ad bellum includes reasons for going to war, and jus in bello deals
with the people who wage war. The criteriain jus ad bellum include; just cause, declaration by a
proper authority, right intention, a reasonable chance of success, the end proportional to the means,
and war as a last resort. Jus in bello includes keeping innocents outside the field of war, and limiting
the amount of force used. Just War Theorists... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Locke s State of nature the government s primary objective is to protect individuals. For
example, if one was in a state of nature and a gang of savages attacked him or her, he or she
would do anything necessary to defend themselves. They would then form a group with a common
objective of protection. With life now insured, the group can pursue liberty, happiness and estate.
Just War Theorists claim the governments of today are essentially the same, only on a larger scale.
Walzer and other Just War Theorists hold that self defense justifies pre emptive strikes. If an
outside force is obviously endangering a state, it is then justifiable to stop the attack before it
happens. Pre emptive strikes can prevent a future war that has worse effects. Walzer has what
he calls a general formula for a just pre emptive strike, States may use military force in the face
of threats of war, wherever the failure to do so would seriously risk their territorial integrity and
political independence (87). Walzer uses an example to justify his general formula of a
justifiable pre emptive strike. He claims that the Six Day War in 1967 was indeed a just pre
emptive attack on Egypt by Israel. Israel was under real threat because Egyptian President Nasser
massed an army and was positioning for attack, while simultaneously closing the Straits of Tiran to
Israel, and publicizing his goal to destroy Israel. Israel went

Essay The Insufficiency of Honesty
Stephen L. Carter links integrity and honesty. There are three constraints discussed in this essay.
First, integrity does require a degree of moral reflectiveness. Second, Integrity may cause conflict
that is must be resolved. It does not necessarily produce or protect interpersonal harmony. Third, a
person who has integrity can be trusted. It does not avoid the restructuring of social structures and
associations, because it leaves the matter to exercise of interpersonal authority.
He states that one cannot have integrity without being honest but one can certainly be honest yet
have little integrity. He also states that honesty can actually be used quite selfishly. In fact, there are
key differences between honesty and integrity:
Honesty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, a manager was taught his whole life that women aren t as smart as men. So he gives
his female employees tasks that he believes they ll be more apt to apply themselves. Although he s
being true to his beliefs, he fails to take responsibility as an equitable manager and as a
representative of his company. He is not a person of integrity although he is honest.
Honesty without integrity can also lead to moral disasters. Well, honesty may be important but not
sufficient for integrity. Integrity is both essential and significant. It is acceptable and one will agree
with what Stephen L. Carter says about a person having honesty but not integrity. There are also
some white lies present. Sometimes saying the truth or telling everything you know might hurt
somebody. Harm may not be the intention but positively the effect.
Carter also speaks of an American Core that has six values necessary for good character:
Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, caring, fairness, and citizenship. He believes that honesty
is honored too highly which allows one to escape from responsibilities. Integrity does not permit
easy escape. In Conclusion, absolving one s self can be done out of self interest. It could be just a
matter of choice that the awareness of dishonesty and honesty both tie into integrity depending
upon individual interpretations. We can agree that

  • 3. An Evaluation Of An Anterior Cruciate Ligament ( Acl ) Tear An anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear occurs in one of the knee ligaments that join the bones of the upper and lower leg, keeping the knee stable. After reconstructive surgery patients need extensive rehabilitation and healing time before even considering any physical activity. ACL reconstructions are common amongst people, it has been difficult for surgeons and physicians to come to an agreement on rehabilitation regarding these patients returning back to health. Many physicians are trying to come to a consensus as to what rehabilitation criteria is necessary and what will most benefit their patients, providing them with a quick, yet efficient recovery. The objective in question, is whether an accelerated approach is more efficient than the traditional rehabilitation techniques. Using an accelerated program has show developmental progress with extreme improvement in flexion of the knee, while bypassing a traditional approaches time span of recovery. As far as traditional rehabilitation goes, studies have shown that there is a significant decrease in re ingury of the knee. Observed in theses four articles, is randomized test that concise a professional opinion on what program physicians find more effective. How To Write A Journal Of A Mentor Surgery Center Name of Student: Caitlin McCarthy Date: 12/20/16 12/21/14 Name of Agency: Mentor Surgery Center Supervisor: Tracy Vitolo Week #:2 Hours worked: 19 Total number of hours worked: 36.5 Note here a narrative of your activities and learning for the week. On Monday, the surgery center was closed because of the holiday so I got the day off. On Tuesday, I completed eight hours of my internship from 8:00 am 4:00 pm. From 8:00 am 1:00 pm, I assisted in making patient charts for surgery on Wednesday. There were a lot of patient charts to make because patients are trying to get surgeries in before the end of the year. I learned that patients try to get the surgery in before the end of the year because when the New Year starts they have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tracy was really worried about their exit diagrams around the hospital that they aren t up to code. So when I was reading I focused on finding out about the exit diagrams. So you re probably wondering what an exit diagram is so let me explain. When you walk into any hospital or surgery center really any building you will see a picture on the wall saying, You are here on what looks like a picture hanging on the wall. So the rule in the handbook about fire safety is that the surgery center has to have one in every part of the building, the bigger the building the more exit diagrams the facility needs to have. So as I got to reading in the handbook it made it very clear that these exit diagrams should be easy to read and understand. So after I read that part I took a walk around the facility just to see what their exit diagrams even looked like. I hadn t paid much attention to this so I was curious to see what they looked like. As I walked around the facility looking at the different exit diagrams the more I felt like they were the furthest from easy to understand. So after I was done taking my walk around the surgery center I went into Tracy s office she asked me what I read and what I had focused on in the reading today. So I told her about the exit diagrams and what they needed to pass code for when they get surveyed in the upcoming months. I asked her to come with me so I could show her some things, we then took a walk around the facility I asked her how easy she thought these exit diagrams were to read. Tracy looked at me and said you know I ve never really looked at the exit diagrams because I know this place like the back of my hand, I ve been here for so long she said to me. So I asked do you understand this or think it is easy to read, she said no, to be honest with you it is very confusing. So after that, I told her how there need to be two points ... • 5. Essay Rulemaking by Cornelius Kerwin According to Cornelius Kerwin, Rulemaking is the single most important function performed by agencies of governmentВ…Rulemaking refines, and in some instances defines, the mission of every government agency. In so doing it provides direction and content from budgeting, program implementation, procurement, personnel management, dispute resolution, and other important government activities (Preface XI). This is the foundation for the book, Rulemaking. The whole text primarily revolves around this statement. Throughout the book Kerwin s central theme is that rulemaking is the single most important function that any government agencyhas within its possession. Much like other admin law books he discusses how those agencies with their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book starts out strong and extremely informational, slows down extremely in the middle chapters and ends in theory, which is somewhat thought provoking. Moving on now with the pro s and con s of Kerwin s book Rulemaking. The pro s: Unlike many other public administration texts and especially those dealing with admin law, Kerwin used many current policies and procedures. By this text being more up to date it allows the readers to associate more current affairs. It brings to the table many examples within the Clean Air Act and Medicaid. The cases and explanations are thoroughly defined and easy to follow. Kerwin also discusses strategies chosen by various Presidents, and Congressional members to control the rulemaking/policy making powers of various agencies. He discusses everything from writing extremely specific laws that limit the powers of the agencies so that they cannot stray from the path that Congress intends for them, to threatening to reduce agency budgets if they do not comply. The con s: The author put a lot of patriotic cheesiness into this book in many places. The biggest spot would have to be Chapter 5: Participation in Rulemaking. It makes one want to go grab a democracy flag and be patriotic. For example, page 159 paragraph three states, Comments from the public, alert agencies to gaps in their knowledge and provide them with an understanding of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His brother Jack told him that his mother never had a will and since he was living in the house with her that he had every right to keep the money and do what he wanted with his things. John the youngest of the brothers took his brother to court because he never asked if he could sell her things and take all of her money. All these ideas were like new tabs opening and exploding in my brain, then it came to me, Energy Drinks. My parents very rarely let me have a Red Bull or a Monster Energy, and I hoped that by researching more about the drink, I would find the answer to why they have restricted this drink from me. We chose this disorder because it was an interesting disorder to research and discuss. One of the reasons that it was interesting to us, is that it comes in many different forms and intensities. Another is that, it is a moderately uncommon disorder which sparked our interest to look into it more. Our final reason for choosing the syndrome was, that we found out that the disease changes with people constantly over time. Tourette s was most likely discovered in 1884 by Georges Albert Г‰douard Brutus Gilles de la Tourette. He discovered the illness after his mentor, Jean Martin Charcot, assigned him to study illnesses characterized by sudden outbursts. In an article published by Gilles, Tourette s was described as having the following: childhood onset, hereditability, stereotyped movements, repetition of spoken words and foul language, etc. At the time, Gilles was only able to accurately document the illness... Once upon a time I believe when you die you stay in the ground and your soul would stay there as well. I couldn t imagine that there was a hell, heaven (paradise to some) or even a purgatory. That all change a few month ago when I learn that some people and some religion might believe what they want to. In this essay I have picked three religion Islam, Judaism, and Christianity to explain what each of them have and to be able to show the similarity and difference among them about the afterlife. Although each religion has its own goal, they however are similar in belief. I have found that these three religion are known as the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Purgatory is where most Christians stay until called for to see if they deserve to be in the heaven. The Protestants do not believe in purgatory. Now all we have to worry about is when we die, let hope we have no sin and that for our past sins where wash away and those who did not serve God and have god in their life, will be judged by their deeds. As for Judaism, there is no forever between good souls and evil souls which in other religion such as Christianity and Islam. Judaism believe that the devil can be in heaven. China is the world s largest population, estimated to be around 1.24 billion in 1998. It grows at a rate of 1.3% per year or 44,100 people a day. There are now more people living in China than whole world 150 years ago. The population broke the billion mark in the 1982 census, the results of which provided the justification for the strict one child policy which effectively curbed rapid population growth. In the 1990 census, China counted 1.133 billion people, over the next decades the world populationwill inevitably age. This is an unavoidable consequence of large birth cohorts during the 1950s and 1960s and the rapid fertility decline since the 1970s. In 2025 the baby boomers of the 1950s and 60s will be between 65 and 75 years of age. These large aging cohorts are followed by the relatively small baby bust generations of the worldwide fertility decline. In 1950 there were only 131 million people of age 65 and older; in 1995 their number had almost tripled and was estimated at 371 million. The vast majority of games utilize some form of UI to display information such as health, skills, maps, ammo for a weapon, and more. Unity 3D offers a variety of UI elements that you can use in your game. In this post, I ll provide instructions on how to create a simple Pause menu in Unity. Even though both drunk driving at texting while driving are different, the thing that s most important for both is to keep yourself as well as the people around you safe. The exact definition of drunk is being in a temporary state in which one s physical and mental faculties are impaired by an excess of alcoholic drink (Dictionary). When someone s drunk they are not functioning at their 100%. You will never ask someone to make an important decision while they re drunk. So why would someone who is drunk drive? In the short story Boys and Girls by Alice Munro, life during the twentieth century is portrayed. The narrator, who has portrayed herself as a nameless young girl, struggles for freedom from inequality in her society. The disobedience in Boys and Girls is clarified in Erich Fromms essay, Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem (DPMP). The narrator of Boys and Girls goes through different phases of obedience due to her authoritarian and humanistic conscience (Fromm 10). Also, by being disobedient she has control of her own authorities. Humanistic conscience stops her from doing something inhuman and or from being guilty; it s the inner voice. As well as her comfort levels and the changes of her obedience impact her much to her surprise. The young girlis well aware of what happens around her and is disobedient because of her humanistic conscience , which has her in a battle against genderbinary and stereotypes. The girl is young; she has no place to go, so therefore doesn t really have the option to disobey her parents. The little girl is obedient to her parents when they are around. The protagonist notes this fact, having sought all the names of his family from the prosperity of a fortune teller. • 33. Importance Of Naturalism In Maggie, A Girl Of The Streets Naturalist literature incorporates scientific ideologies, and the studies of humans lives, environment, and forces of inheritance. Survival is a particularly significant theme in Naturalist fiction. Often Naturalist fiction is narrated from a detached, clinical narrative voice. The narrator, Maggie, is an exemplary example of an unconnected character. This relation adds to the scientific perspective of the work. Ideas of Social Darwinism and the survival of the fittest are incorporated in the novel by the author. A writer like Crane also uses literary methods such as imagery to further the perspectives of Naturalism. Stephen Cranes nineteenth century story, Maggie: a Girl of the Streets, illustrates naturalism and scientific perspective through the narrativevoice, Social Darwinism ideologies, and literary techniques. Well exemplified in Maggie, a Girl of the Streets, Naturalist fictionis often narrated from a detached, clinical narrative voice. Naturalists tend to evaluate society scientifically. They analyze their surroundings; however, they rarely get too involved or emotionally attached to their community. Naturalistic writers thus used a version of scientific method to write their novels; they studied human beings governed by forces of heredity and environment. (Campbell, 1) Literature that is naturalistic regularly attempts to apply scientific principles in writing. Campbell s quote further examines the specific intention in the mind of naturalists. • 35. The Effects of Differing Response-Force Requirement in... Introduction Previous research have demonstrated that avoidance responding is influenced by shock intensity and duration (Leander, 1973; de Souza et al., 1984; Badia et al., 1973). Powell (1970) investigated the effect of two shock intensities in single and multiple avoidance schedules and found that the higher shock intensity was generally more effective in producing avoidance responding. Leander (1973) investigated the effects of shock intensity and duration on free operant avoidance. The results indicated that shock intensity and shock duration combine in a multiplicative fashion to determine the avoidance performance. The relation between shock intensity and shock duration suggested that longer shock durations can be substituted with lower shock intensities (Leander, 1973). The increased strength and magnitude of shock predicted higher rates of avoidance responding. However, there seems to be a minimum threshold for shock to establish and maintain avoidance responding. De Souza et al. (1984) found that there are individual differences in sensitivity to shock. There was a minimum shock intensity necessary to establish and maintain avoidance responding; and intensities higher than this minimum value had little or no effect on responding (de Souza et al., 1984). This suggests that once the range of minimum threshold sensitivity to shock for individuals in a group is identified, any shock intensity higher than largest value in the range can potentially establish and ... • 40. Analysis Of The Movie Exit The King Exit the King by Eugene Ionesco directed by Trey Irby in presentation with the Blue Masque was a complete production that felt well explored and executed. The play itself is a somewhat dark look into the fall of a king, his kingdom and final hours of his life. This much darker subject matter is balanced with comic relief provided by the guard, the maid and occasional banter of the king s two wives. A well flushed out script that examines such a timeless struggle as the delicate balance of life and death poses immense challenge for those involved. While this challenge occasionally made itself known, the acting body as a whole did a fine job at overcoming these hurdles. The role of Queen Marguerite, played by Laurel Edge, was one of the most complex roles to wrestle with and Edge took many of bold stances that went helped to more fully develop what could have been essentially a bitchy antagonist into a three dimensional being with solid intention from start to finish. Marguerite s objective from the moment she steps on stage is clearly to end the life of the king, or rather help him to the end of his life since no explicit murder takes place. Marguerite stops at nothing to pursuethis through whether her obstacle is Queen Marie or the King himself. Edge was well open and able to play off the many others in the scene at a time though this was not always obvious. She also had the clearest expectations. • 41. Conformity And Social Conformity Introduction Conformity shapes our everyday decisions, whether it is acknowledged or not. How individuals are perceived by society and our peers puts an immense pressure on a person both in groups and privately, actively changing behavior that they may not normally take part in. An individual may change their behavior due to the chance of becoming an outcast. The ultimate fear or possibility of being an outcast influences individuals to conform to social norms. Psychological researchers have long been interested in the reasoning behind social conformity. Social conformity can result in the change of behavior or even the belief of an individual when it comes to them trying to fit within a group. The change can be due to pressure from a social group. By looking deeper into group size and familiarity, it is possible to accurately predict behavior for groups and individuals in the future. In psychology, conformity is defined as the alteration of one s beliefs and behaviors to better match those around you. There are typically two different forms of conformity, normative and informational. Normative conformity is becoming compliant to group pressure with the want to fit in. On the other hand, Information conformity refers to when a person looks to the group for guidance when they lack knowledge in a certain area. Conformity also can range in different levels such as from how people dress to how people act in public. This force is what drives even the most simple of decisions that a person will make on a daily basis. As a result, these individuals conform to other people s behaviors. For example, just like a public compliance, which is when a person conforms to another s behavior even if they do not necessarily believe or agree of the person s words or actions. In society, conformity puts pressure on citizens to either conform to the laws they are given or face legal consequences. Conformity creates something called group norms , which are an informal set of social rules that are often unspoken. (Group Norms) When a person violates these norms, they will often find themselves in conflict with the rest of the group, and can potentially be removed. Conformity has been well documented and researched, with one of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And once again Fordist planning practices of neoliberal cities all over the world, along with their artifacts inherited from the industrial era are under the crosshair. Resource hungry cities designed for the automobile, extensive network of highways, hollowed out centers, and patterns of low density suburbanization are some of the treasures of the past century that we are no longer proud of. Is it possible to reverse the adverse effects of unsustainable planning practices of the past and put our cities on a path to an ecologically balanced future? This volume by Jonathan Barnett and Larry Beasley lays out the technological innovations of the twenty first century, and lessons from successful implementation of environmentally sensitive designs by cities from all over the world to carve a path that will possibly lead us to a future of truly eco friendly cities. A lot of the time parents unintentionally have their children follow a script that they were taught by their parents. Parents are raising their children in a consensus reality which is a reality that has been created by culture through practices, behaviors, shared beliefs, rules and artifacts. Moreover, instead of parents letting their children choose to try something they are intesred in or they try different things they have to stick to a script or to something they feel is correct. In another example, Pervez tells how he identified writing, traveling, telling stories, and helping others were his passions and decided to take the happiness plunge where to him, there [was] more to life than the American Dream we ve been sold. In contrast to the leap of faith, Camus believed we must embrace the absurd by living in it. According to Camus, there is no existential meaning to life and therefore we must create our own meaning. We must extract meaning from arts and explore the infinite possibilities of our creative minds. It was previously a question of finding out whether or not life had to have a meaning to be lived. It now becomes clear, on the contrary, that it will be lived all the better if it has no meaning 53 In embracing the absurd, we receive a unique opportunity of seizing and embracing awareness. The Role of Inhibitory Modulation of Languages among Bilinguals In a rich linguistic environment, where more than 7000 languages are spoken in 149 countries, multilingualism and bilingualism are inevitable (Crystal, 2003; Grosjean, 2010). While the causes of increased bilingualism and multilingualism can vary, the repercussions of this demographic shift are wide reaching (O Brien, Curtin, Naqvi, 2014). Consequently, research on bilingualism and multilingualism has also dramatically increased in the last few years in quantity, quality and breadth (Bhatia William, 2013). In the past two decades, series of discoveries has changed the way bilingualism was understood (Kroll, Bobb, Hoshino, 2014). The consequences of bilingualism are not limited to native and second language but appear to reflect reorganization of brain networks that hold implications for the ways in which bilinguals negotiate cognitive competition more generally. The bilingual experience for every individual is unique as it depends upon the context, linguistic proficiency, and purpose. There is also a great variability in the amount and quality of exposure to the languages that the individual learns. Due to this capriciousness in bilingual characteristics, defining bilingualism becomes problematic and raises number of theoretical and methodological concerns (Hamers Blanc, 2000). • 55. Just War and Pacifism Essay The question Can war be justified? plagued mankind since the first war. The Just War Theory holds that war can be just. The theory has evolved for thousands of years and modern theorists, such as Michael Walzer, author of Just and Unjust Wars, puts forth criteria for a just war, such as jus ad bellum and jus in bello. Jus ad bellum includes reasons for going to war, and jus in bello deals with the people who wage war. The criteriain jus ad bellum include; just cause, declaration by a proper authority, right intention, a reasonable chance of success, the end proportional to the means, and war as a last resort. Jus in bello includes keeping innocents outside the field of war, and limiting the amount of force used. Just War Theorists... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Locke s State of nature the government s primary objective is to protect individuals. For example, if one was in a state of nature and a gang of savages attacked him or her, he or she would do anything necessary to defend themselves. They would then form a group with a common objective of protection. With life now insured, the group can pursue liberty, happiness and estate. Just War Theorists claim the governments of today are essentially the same, only on a larger scale. Walzer and other Just War Theorists hold that self defense justifies pre emptive strikes. If an outside force is obviously endangering a state, it is then justifiable to stop the attack before it happens. Pre emptive strikes can prevent a future war that has worse effects. Walzer has what he calls a general formula for a just pre emptive strike, States may use military force in the face of threats of war, wherever the failure to do so would seriously risk their territorial integrity and political independence (87). Walzer uses an example to justify his general formula of a justifiable pre emptive strike. He claims that the Six Day War in 1967 was indeed a just pre emptive attack on Egypt by Israel. Israel was under real threat because Egyptian President Nasser massed an army and was positioning for attack, while simultaneously closing the Straits of Tiran to Israel, and publicizing his goal to destroy Israel. Although he s being true to his beliefs, he fails to take responsibility as an equitable manager and as a representative of his company. He is not a person of integrity although he is honest. Honesty without integrity can also lead to moral disasters. Well, honesty may be important but not sufficient for integrity. Integrity is both essential and significant. It is acceptable and one will agree with what Stephen L. Carter says about a person having honesty but not integrity. There are also some white lies present. Sometimes saying the truth or telling everything you know might hurt somebody. Harm may not be the intention but positively the effect. Carter also speaks of an American Core that has six values necessary for good character: Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, caring, fairness, and citizenship. He believes that honesty is honored too highly which allows one to escape from responsibilities. Integrity does not permit easy escape. In Conclusion, absolving one s self can be done out of self interest. It could be just a matter of choice that the awareness of dishonesty and honesty both tie into integrity depending upon individual interpretations. We can agree that ...
