Humorous Wedding Speech By The Father Of The Groom
Ladies and gentlemen, faculty, family, and my fellow classmates of the class of 2018, today is nothing
short of auspicious and I m ecstatic to share this milestone with all of you. Before I begin, I would like
to thank those teachers who chose this modest speech among the outstanding collection of speeches
submitted by my simply amazing peers. Although it is ironic that 99% of this class is older than me
and I have been chosen to address the class and impart wisdom and reflection, I find it to be a great
honor to deliver the T.C. Abbey Oration, and I promise I do not take it lightly. I have carefully chosen
every word and phrase with an understanding of the responsibility bestowed on me. Today, I stand

Think of that one teacher who affected you, who you have a special bond with, who changed your life
trajectory. Be grateful for everything this school has done for us, from the small things like froyo on
Fridays and candy in the College Office, to those big moments when you received the best advice

Jesus Made In America By Stephen J. Nicholas
When I was reading the book Jesus Made in America by Stephen J. Nicholas, I came across a very
interesting chapter titled Jesus on Vinyl . This chapter discussed in detail the state of the use of Jesus
in contemporary music from the 1950s up to the current times. Back 3in the 1950s there were
contemporary artists who putting out albums of hymns, like Johnny Cash s Hymns of Johnny Cash.
Not surprisingly, the most significant time for Christian gospel music was during the hippie era in the
1960s. During that time, gospel, youth, and music had merged together into songs that preached about
Christ and love. Many people became Christians during that time to protest the ongoing war in
Vietnam so it would make sense that they would start to make that a main topic in the music of that
time.
Hippies usually referred to themselves as the Jesus People (named by Duane Pederson who was one of
the leaders in Los Angeles) which led to this movement called the Jesus Movement. They claimed to
not be a part of the hippie culture that they were born out of nor were they a part of the fundamental
church. This caught the attention of several media outlets which drew more people do the Jesus
Peoples welcoming environment. Many baptisms happened during this time, like in 1967 when Ted
and Liz Wise converted four couples into becoming followers of Jesus, usually while on drugs. The
people being baptized actually believed that they were being cleansed while still being intoxicated.

Galoob Case Study
Discussion on court rulings: Fair use perspective The district court concluded that Galoob is not liable
for copyright infringement under U.S. Code § 107, a fair use defense against direct infringement claim
of Nintendo s copyrighted works. In determining fair use factors, the court has greatly relied on the
supreme court ruling in the court case Sony v. Universal City Studios. (1984) in the context of
contributory infringement. The doctrine of fair use states that any individual may reproduce a
copyrighted work for a fair use and that the copyright owner does not possess the exclusive right to
such a use. Thus, permitting the holder of the copyrighted material to use it in a reasonable manner
without the consent of the copyright owner. In determining Galoob s fair use of Nintendo s
copyrighted video games, the courts considered the following four fair use factors.

of Galoob, stating that Galoob did not violate any Nintendo s copyrights but rather constituted fair use
under copyright law. Therefore, Galoob is not entitled to either temporary or permanent injunction.
The court also emphasized the importance of innovation and the need to allow innovative ideas stating
that Game Genie is an important innovation. I agree with the court comments since any acts that

Federalism Essay
Federalism
The Constitution of the United States was drafted at a time when our country was in dire need of many
answers to political and social questions. In addition to many other things, the drafters of the
Constitution were concerned with solidifying our central government and the Constitution was
intended to provide a solid structure from which our burgeoning nation could grow. The Constitution
gave explicit powers to the federal government and provided the states with the Tenth Amendment
which states , Powers not delegated to the United States, nor prohibited to the states, are reserved to
the states respectively #8230; Of the enumerated powers given to the federal government by the
Constitution, the interpretation of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dual Federalism also relies on the notion that in a court of law, the Tenth Amendment gives the states
enough support to declare unconstitutional any act of the national government that infringes on the
reserved powers given to the states. Cooperative Federalism provides an entirely different view of the
relationship between the federal and state governments. Federal supremacy is the hallmark of this
ideology. Supporters of the cooperative federalist view prefer to employ a broad interpretation of the
Constitution. The legal basis on which cooperative federalism has been argued is threefold: (1)
Enumerated powers (e.g. Commerce Clause) should be interpreted in light of an expansive Necessary
and Proper Clause (2) The Supremacy Clause, as prescribed in Article 6, paragraph 2, gives federal
actions supremacy over state laws when made in pursuance of the Constitution and when they are
made using implied and enumerated powers (3) The Tenth Amendment does not give states the power
to contest federal laws. To suggest that that these two ideologies are contradictory is an
understatement. To understand which theory best identifies with the correct interpretation of the
Constitution, it is necessary to understand the circumstances that created the necessity for a
Constitution and the political circumstances that motivated decisions contrary to the correct
interpretation of the Constitution. The

Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart
In Chinua Achebe s 19th century Nigerian novel Things Fall Apart, the Ibo culture has internal
problems, which ultimately cause of the downfall of the clan. These problems include a poor social
system, superstitious beliefs, and a lack of suitable decision making. These few problems are essential.
One of the flaws inside the Ibo culture that eventually leads to their downfall is the social system. The
weaker people join the church as a way to gain acceptance. The osu, or outcasts who lived in the Ibo
culture want to feel accepted and as a result, follow the Christians. The two outcasts shaved off their
hair, and soon they were the strongest adherents of the new faith (157). These two outcasts never have
the feeling of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another problem within the clan is the superstition. Superstition is associated with religion in the Ibo
culture. The religion is closely associated with tradition. An example of religion and tradition is the
egwugwu. The Ibo people do not welcome change. They have superstitions about twins being evil and
needing to stay into the forest to die, and an evil forest where if someone lives on it, they will die
within a few weeks. The evil forest is actually for disposing dead bodies. The villagers assume all
these superstitions true. When the church arrives, the plot of land they are given is from the evil forest.
The inhabitants of Mbanta expected them all to be dead within four days (149). The church lives past
4 days and the villagers give them up to 28 days to live. The church thrives and does not die. Villagers
are baffled and do not know how to explain this. The villagers have superstitions that have become
common knowledge. This common knowledge is abolished right in front of them. Not long after, he
won his first three converts (149). The people rely too much on old traditions and superstition. These
traditions and superstitions lead to the downfall of the Ibo people because they are destroyable. For the
Ibo people, this is destroying what they believe to be true. Doing this would result in people not
following the religion anymore just as the three people who convert to Christianity. The lack of moral
decision making

Technology As A Way Of Life And Express
The new generation of students entering and already enrolled in university are members of a digital
age growing up surrounded by many forms of digital technology as they are the first generation of
youth to have internet technology easily available at their disposal. This current generation have
already been labelled by sociologist as digital natives (Prensky 2001a) and the net generation
(Tapscott 1998) (Prensky 2001a; Tapscott 1998 as cited in Murphy 2010). Technology is not
something new to these students as its presence in their life have made them quite comfortable to the
idea, as they perceive technology as a way of life and express a need to feel connected at all times
(Russo et al. 2014). Although what is new are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As university professors are being presented with new types of students, there is a call to integrate
advanced technology into their course design, and ultimately, educators must lead the way and use the
technology in a fashion that positively aids their students: technology should be used with the needs of
the learners in mind and with the goal of improving student learning as the focus (Russo et al. 2014).
If this idea is implemented and acknowledged correctly, then many advantages can arise that enhance
student learning in university classrooms. The first benefit of instructors introducing advanced
technology into their teaching is that technology connects with students, which ultimately arouses
their interest because technology as a whole is a relevant and important part of student s lives. When
students are interested and engaged in the class material they become motivated to pay attention and
focus on what they are being taught, which leads to an improved retention rate of information. This
relates to the DVD that West, Pudsey and Dunk West created for teacher to give to their students to
work within their learning, and they found that it easily assimilates into their everyday life world
(2010). Another advantage is that the use of technology supports collaboration skills within students.

The loggerhead sea turtle, Caretta caretta, is a threatened species with a highly migratory behavior and
shifting habitat requirements depending on maturity (NMFS and USFWS 1998). The loggerhead
nesting grounds are typically in warm temperate regions (NMFS and USFWS 1998).
In the original listing from USFWS (1978), the loggerhead sea turtle was listed as threatened
throughout all of its range. The document goes on to state that one of the main threats to the
loggerhead sea turtle was that it was being harvested for the shell or as food; the eggs were considered
a desired food item and protein source. Regulations were put in place to protect the loggerhead sea

Figure 1. Loggerhead Observed Bycatch. This graph shows data collected on bycatch rates in
SEAMAP analysis data set in the Stock Assessment of Loggerhead Sea Turtles. From NMFS 2001.
Nesting habitat degradation is an anthropogenic threat to the loggerhead sea turtles. These threats
include coastal development, erosion control barriers or beach armoring, artificial lighting, pollution,
removal of native vegetation, and vehicle and pedestrian traffic (NMFS and USFWS 2007). Some
solutions include protecting and managing turtles on nesting beaches, monitor coastal construction,
implement lighting regulations, screen artificial lighting with vegetation, and impose regulations on
beach armoring (NMFS and USFWS 1998). Predation is an important threat to consider in nesting
areas for the loggerhead. Many places have depredation to protect the eggs and hatchlings against
predators such as feral dogs, raccoons, and foxes (NMFS and USFWS 2007).
The future outlook for the loggerhead turtle has been studied using two analyses, one looked at counts
of nesting females and the other analysis was a stage based population model done to look at the
anthropogenic mortalities with respect to the vital rates of the species (Conant et al. 2009). Using
these analyses, it was determined that for the North Atlantic Ocean DPS there was a greater likelihood
of quasi extinction for the Northern Gulf of Mexico

The Effects Of Urbanization On The Belizean Society Essay
Negative Effects of Urbanization to the Belizean Society
Many small town dwellers and villagers had left their hometown for the cities in search of higher
standard of living. This movement from rural areas to big cities is called urbanization (Boundless,
2015). As a result, urbanization is the process by which there is an increase in the number and the
percentage of people living in the urban settlements and the amount of industrialization of the
settlement. In Belize statistics shows that 45% of the population lives in urban areas (Population
Reference Bureau, 2014). It also refers to the increase in the size of land area occupied by urban
settlements such as towns and cities. Although urbanization has brought about numerous positive
impacts, it also has its share of disadvantages as well. The negative impacts of urbanization shall be
discussed by means of the economic, environmental and social aspect.
The main negative economic impact of urbanization in Belize is unemployment which ties into social
conflict theory. According to Guardian Newspaper the Statistical Institute of Belize released its
preliminary results for the April 2014 labor force survey on Wednesday, June 25, and it shows that the
unemployment rate has decreased from 14.2 percent in September of 2013 to 11.1 percent in April of
2014 (Williams, 2014, P.18). With massive migration from rural areas, jobs in the urban area may not
be created fast enough to meet the needs. Therefore, the first problem faced

The main concern was as to whether the failure had been the cause of assembly (welding) or the
materials and design used to repair the eyebar (Wilson, 2009). They concluded that the brace that had

dampening of vibrations on the joints (Wilson, 2009). On October 27, wind speeds were recorded at
higher than 50 mph (Alfrey, 2010). Due to this wind, the was an excess in vibrations happening inside
of the joints. This, and the temperature that day, and the amount of traffic at that time caused the

Love is the basis of our existence. It affects our every moment, dreams, and hope for the future. Love
has caused wars, ended lives, toppled governments and has been expounded on by poets, musicians,

takes about a fifth of a second to fall in love and it affects almost every part of our body. Our brain

Child Beauty Pageants Are Harmful For Young Girls
Child beauty pageants have existed for many years, and at first they were considered innocent dress up
games. It was not until the T.V. show Toddlers and Tiaras aired that the industry received national
attention. The multibillion dollar industry depicted two year olds with wigs, spray tans, waxed
eyebrows, and inappropriate attires catering to the audience that craves young faces in the
entertainment business. These type of competitions can have negative impacts on a child s life. Child
beauty pageants are harmful for young girls because they can be subject to exploitation and promote
unhealthy ideals, damaging their self esteem. Child beauty pageants are not a new phenomenon.
Michelle Healy, a health and wellness reporter for USA Today, traced back the competition s roots to
find that they have been around since 1880 (n.p.). Child beauty pageants are competitions that are
primarily based on the physical attributes of the contestants. In the beginning, only older participants
were eligible to participate. Now they extended the age requirements and toddlers, only a few months
old, are able to participate. This has not only increased the competition, but also made parents more
eager to start training their kids at an even earlier age. Recently, they have included more categories
such as special talents, community service, costume and dance. First of all, child beauty pageants can
be harmful to children because they can be subject to exploitation. Martina M. Cartwright, a

remembered for betting on baseball while playing/managing the Reds. Rose denied these allegations
for 14 years, even in the face of substantial evidence including an independent investigative report by
Jon Dowd (better known as the Dowd Report). The defense mechanism most often used by Rose
during this time period was flat out denial. While denying the accusations, Rose likely received
negative reinforcement due to the escape of the emotions involved in admitting such a terrible act in
the eyes of baseball. A potentially big initial factor behind this is that shortly after the Dowd Report;
Rose voluntarily placed himself on baseball s ineligible list in August 1989 with the agreement from
then commissioner Bart Giamatti that after a one year banishment from baseball, Rose could apply for
reinstatement. Tragedy struck when Giamatti unexpectedly died from a heart attack before Rose s year

Bethany was born to surf and had a natural talent for surfing and was participating in national surf

bringing supplies to survivors of the tsunami in Thailand. While Bethany is there she notices a

her go into the water to let them know that the water isn t harmful which I find inspiring.

The 1870 Education Act
1.0 Introduction
Education Act speaks about schooling which mainly emphasizes on students. Education Act plays the
role as a guideline or referral point for all aspects relating to education. At current, there are several
existing acts on education. One of the earliest ones and recognized Education Act would be the 1870
Education Act which will be summarized, contextualized and evaluated in the following subtopics.
2.0 1870 Education Act Summarized
The 1870 Education Act, universally recognized as Foster s Education Act, set the structure of
schooling for all children aged between 5 and 13 years old (Politics, 2014). Gillard (2011) mentioned
that the 1870 Education Act which established school boards to oversee and complete the network of
schools and bring them all under some form of provision was drafted by Liberal MP, William Forster,
and it was introduced on 9 August 1870. 1870 Education Act is the start of obligatory state education
(Shaw, 2011). The Act was introduced with the purpose to handle education aspect in Britain
(Parliament, No Date). The Parliament (No Date) further added on by stating the act permitted
voluntary schools to carry on unchanged, but established a system of school boards to build and
manage schools in areas where they were needed . The Act contains three parts and five schedules that
deal with organizational issues.
1870 Education Act stated that:

Tuesdays In The Tower Book Report
Many young children dream of living in a castle. A castle is a key part of many fairy tales, whether
they have a princess locked up in a tower, a terrible dragon inside which must be defeated, or the
castle is the home where a royal family resides. In Wednesdays in the Tower, by Jessica Day George,
the royal family indeed lives in a castle. They do not live in just any castle; their castle is for lack of a
better word; alive. The book, Wednesdays in the Tower, is another book that fits into several genres. It
is traditional literature. The story incorporates folkloric elements; it is a story meant to entertain. It
shares in the folktale criteria of being a beast tale, a main character in this book is Rufus; a griffin
which Celie, one of the princesses in the story hatched from an egg the castle gave her. Rufus has most
of his animal characteristics but he is decidedly opinionated much like a human would be. The story
also includes magic and wonder, because there is nothing normal about a castle, which when bored ...

Nella Larsen s Passing
The Harlem Renaissance was a turning point for many African Americans. A vast amount of literature
was created specifically for this group during this era. It was a period when the African American was
in vogue and white thinkers and writers were devoting a considerable amount of attention to them
(Taylor 91, 90). For the first time, African Americans were being told that it was okay to be proud of
who they were. This new consciousness and self awareness was prominent in many works of literate,
but several writers began exploring the darker side of this movement with literature that concentrated
on the negative aspects of race relations in America. Nella Larsen s novel Passing concentrates on this

Although Irene feels that there is nothing sacrificial in Clare s idea of life, no allegiance beyond her
own immediate desire, it is apparent that Clare s desire to return to her African American race is
honest, even if the motives seem rather one sided (Larsen 144). Irene considers Clare to be selfish,
cold and hard (Larsen 144). Irene also feels that Clare does not have even in the slightest artistic or
sociological interest in the race that some members of other races displayed #8230;[She] cared
nothing of the race, she only belonged to it (Larsen 182). This may be true, but it does not diminish
Clare s own pain at having to deny her African American heritage, and her desire to return to it. Irene
represents a portion of society who feel that people who pass must have a morally acceptable reason to

Marketing Process Of Any Product Or Service
The marketing process of any product or service begins with potential consumers; it is a customer
centric environment which primary function seeks to fulfil the needs and wants of each individual
customer (Sheth, Sisodia, Sharma, 2000, p.55). It is these wants that marketers have to identify and
manipulate to turn them into a need and subsequently a sale, people have narrow, basic needs but
almost unlimited wants (Kotler, Armstrong, Wong, Saunders, 2008, p.9). The majority of the
population may have unlimited wants however they also have limited resources so value for money is
a crucial factor in the process of turning potential customers into consumers. Understanding the
market is therefore the first step in determining whether a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Pyramids Centre , uses multiple segmentation through use of a range of gym memberships so they
can specifically tailor a marketing strategy for each sub group, in this example the target group refers
to their student membership offer. Characteristics of this group would primarily be highlighted as low
income and the service being offered may not be a need or even seen as an important want , so it may
seem difficult to appeal to this market. However according to Kotler (1980, p.78) a segment must be
sufficiently large and with more than 20,000 students living in the city centre it would be essential to
identify the student population as potential consumers; this has been implemented through allowing a
somewhat exclusive and cheaper deal for students only which allows for the service to appear more
lucrative. A successful organisation however will not just appeal to one segment of the market,
Marketers often use multiple segmentation bases in an effort to identify smaller, better defined target
groups (Kotler Armstrong, 2011). Another form of segmentation which a company can appeal to
relates to location; geographic segmentation occurs to attract customers in their immediate
surroundings and is a technique shown by the the Pyramids Centre, The rationale behind this approach
is that people who

World Hunger Essay
World hunger has been a constant problem throughout the ages. It is a problem that should be able to
be solved easily, yet there are still 1.02 billion undernourished people worldwide. With the world
population being 6.7 billion people, and the Earth producing more than enough food for this amount
of people, why is it that there are hungry, malnourished people all around the globe? Hunger is caused
by many events, including the poverty trap, natural disasters, war, poor agricultural infrastructure, and
over exploitation of the environment. The poverty trap is the cycle of poverty that can begin from a
limited diet and progress to birthing a baby that is malnourished. This causes the baby to have slower

They do this by destroying local markets and seizing or destroying crops and animals, while
contaminating wells and mining fields. This forces farmers to leave their lands and usually begins
their cycle in the poverty trap. Poor agricultural infrastructure causes hunger because the lack of roads,
warehouses, and irrigation causes higher transportation costs, a deficiency of storage facilities, and
unreliable water supplies. To improve the agricultural infrastructure, however, it would cost a profuse
amount of money, which would put the country in greater debt and result in less funding for essential
systems, such as health care, which already has too little funding. Over exploitation of the
environment is caused by deforestation, over cropping, poor farming practices, and overgrazing. When
over exploitation occurs, salination, erosion, and desertification results, causing less fertility and more
hunger across the globe. Salination is caused by erosion that strips the earth of its nutrients, leaving
behind salty, unfertile land. This causes plants to have less of a chance of growing properly, or not
grow at all. When less plants grow, less people are fed, and more go hungry. From 1970 to 1997,
humanity was solving the starvation problem worldwide. The amount of hungry people had dropped
from 959 million to 791 million, which is a total decrease of 168 million people. This decrease is

Benefits Of Having A Green Building
A green building is a structure that is eco friendly to the environment and does not harm the nature
that is present around it. The word eco friendly is familiarized through sustaining and conserving the
environment and its crucial features that help keep this world running and thriving. It is the
consequence of humans to continue to use harmful chemicals and materials that may destroy the world
and its atmosphere entirely. The greenhouse project in biology demonstrated a small model of a
possible green house that is friendly to the nature and environment around it and can overall
encourage the use of healthy products and actions. Benefits of having a green house is that it will help
the environment, encourage sustainability of natural resources, and will overall benefit the consumers
economically. Benefits of having a greenhouse is that it will help the environment. For example, the
use of having an eco friendly house will help to reduce the impact humans have on the environment
(The Nest). A friendly house to the environment will lower negative impact on the world. It will allow
the world to continue to relieve its functions without major harmful intervening from human beings.
The actions of creating this kind of house can help with the depletion of the Earth s functions so the
rest of human beings may live on this Earth without a negative consequence. Another reason eco
friendly houses have benefits is because it will help with the use of electricity

Do you have passion, persistence, and perseverance? the TED Talk, The key to success? Grit , Angela
Lee Duckworth stated, Grit is passion and perseverance for very long term goals. Grit is having

you have to be willing to spend all your time trying to accomplish your goal, or else it is not worth
fighting for. Grit is staying with something for a long time, not giving up the first day, the first week,

Lexi was in a tragic boating accident that, unfortunately, resulted in the loss of her lower left leg.
Countless amputees have given up on trying to become stronger and try to have a normal life again,
but, however, Lexi decided she was not going to be one of them. It was extremely hard for her in the
beginning because walking with prosthetics is a lot harder than walking regularly. Lexi had to work
twice as hard to be able to get used to the prosthetics and try to live on with it to the best of her
abilities. She kept working every day, going through physical therapy and other methods to be able to
walk better with prosthetics. Although her life would never be the same again and would never be
normal, Lexi made it her goal to try and get it to be as close to normal as possible. She was a very
athletic girl before the accident and wants to go back to the sports she loves by training extra hard to
make it to the Paralympics. Lexi also wants to become a physical therapist to help other amputees
with their struggles. She looks at her leg with pride, knowing that she is living her life to the fullest
and not letting the accident bring her spirit down. She will keep putting in a lot of effort, thanks to
modern science that has made and improved prosthetics that will forever help her. Lexi is not going to

Narrative Essay On Odette Millenium
The accused needs to stand. The tribunal judge s voice echoed throughout the cavernous courtroom.
Although he sat high upon his chair behind his raised bench, the lighting around him was dim,
providing a sense of anonymity. To his right, a collection of citizens, too, sat shrouded in anonymity.
Several feet across from the judge, Odette Bordeaux pushed her chair out from behind the small desk
from where she had been placed. The wooden legs of the chair scratched abrasively against the
warped wooden floor causing an earsplitting screech that bounced around the room, magnifying the
sound until it reached a crescendo and then slowly dissipated. She was highlighted in a strong light
that shined down from the ceiling, exposing her to the jury and judge. Aged in her mid 40s, with
chestnut hair pinned neatly into a bun on the back of her head, Odette stood with the composure of a
lone leaf in a stout fall wind. Her hands, thin but calloused, trembled involuntarily, so she balled them
up and placed them behind her back. She wiggled her toes, hidden inside of her flats, to work off the
abundance of nerves ricocheting around inside of her. It wasn t ... Show more content on

How do you respond to these transgressions?
Odette stood silent before the judge and the collection of citizens, not sure how to respond. She knew
that admitting her guilt would make her vulnerable to severe repercussion; however, atoning for
actions that were necessary seemed like an illogical thing to do, but it was the truth.
How do you respond to these transgressions, defendant?

Symbolism In The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
The element of symbolism is extremely prominent in the classic work The Scarlet Ibis, by James
Hurst to the point where the work is even titled to represent one use of symbolism present in the short
story. There are three main examples of symbolism in the story with numerous others scattered
throughout the entire text. One extremely common form of symbolism seen across various works of
literature is present within this story: the weather. This form of symbolism is introduced when the
work states, After a long silence, Daddy spoke. It s so calm, I wouldn t be surprised if we had storm
this afternoon. (Hurst online). In literature, the weather is typically a key symbol in foreshadowing
events, whether positive or negative, that are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cash also demonstrates numerous shifts in both the tone and the mood of her work related to the
events highlighted in the memories she recalls within her work. In the beginning of the piece, Cash
quickly presents this statement to the reader: I ate my way through a new bag each day, tossing the
peels in the flames as I rocked. The bitter, wild aroma of singed oranges cut into the somber iciness of
the room, and soothed me. It was my personal statement against the chill. (Cash online). Through the
use of words such as singed, somber, and iciness, the author of the piece manipulates the reader to feel
the somber atmosphere and the slightly melancholy aura present in the room. By placing this
statement within the very first paragraph of the memoir, Cash very quickly developed a certain feeling
within the reader that, in a way, foreshadowed the mood of the events to come. Within a short couple
of paragraphs, the author completely shifted the tone and mood. This shift can be see when suddenly
this statement is placed in the piece: But it was a wonderful evening. We sang on three songs:
Shackles and Chains, Roll in My Sweet Baby s Arms, and Song of the South. Instead of being a
sideshow freak, I was treated as a ripe little goddess... (Cash online). Suddenly Rosanne Cash
experienced a shift in attitude, and the tone of the piece at that point reflects the alteration. The reader
goes from feeling somewhat dejected to feeling much more cheerful and uplifted by the change in
word choice to phrases such as wonderful and ripe little goddess. As more time progresses in the
piece, the author once again manipulates the reader to experience a drastic change in feeling. The tone
shifts again when the next

Cars Vs Trucks Research Paper
There are more than 253 Million cars and trucks in the U.S at this moment. That sounds like a lot but
really it isn t that many. For every 1.3 cars or trucks there is only one person in the United States. With
this many cars and trucks in the U.S. there is bound to be some controversy about which one is better.
Many people may prefer trucks over cars and in vice versa. They both have their advantages and
disadvantages. While trucks are better at hauling or towing things, cars have better gas mileage and
can hold more people.
One of the benefits to having a truck is that you can haul big objects and even tow other vehicles. In a
truck you may be able to haul things like furniture or hay for your animals. I have personal experience
with trucks. My mom has to haul hay for our animals. Trucks are also good for towing other vehicles
out of ditches. When cars and other trucks get stuck in the ditch another truck can help pull them out.
Unfortunately cars can t haul big objects or tow other vehicles. According to globe cars brand, Since
cars are equipped with a smaller engine, it is usually difficult to tow other vehicles. On the other hand
trucks are more powerful, thus it is incredibly easy to tow other vehicles. Trucks have more power

compared to a Toyota Tundra which gets about 15 mpg. On average a person who owns a tuck would
spend about $30 $40 in gas a week, compared to a car owner who might spent $15 $20 in gas a week.
If you have a higher gas mileage, you should be saving money. With all the money you are saving
from the gas mileage, you can save up for many different things you wanted such as college or a
raining day. Many people who don t have as much money would enjoy having a little extra money.

The Miracle Worker ( 1962 ) Essay
Communication in The Miracle Worker (1962)
The basic communication concepts can be utilized to evaluate analyze the plotlines and character
relationships of many classic movies. In this paper, the 1962 version of The Miracle Worker is
discussed and analyzed in terms of these communication concepts. The movie revolves around the
story of Helen Keller, a seven year old girl who became deaf and blind after contracting an infection
during her infancy. In order to teach Helen how to communicate, her parents (Kate and Captain
Keller) hire a visually impaired schoolteacher by the name of Anne Sullivan. The film demonstrates
Helen s struggle to communicate with her parents and Anne and how Helen slowly begins to learn,
despite her disabilities. The concepts that I learned in class each helped me to see the movie from a
different perspective. The topics of conflict, perception, and non verbal communication make up the
majority of the film s plotline. Each one of these topics will be discussed in a paragraph about how it
was represented in the film. Throughout the course of the film, there were various conflicts that took
place between the main characters. The conflicts mainly occur between Anne and Helen and between
Kate and Captain Keller. Most of the time, the conflicts are started because of an overall frustration
trying to communicate with Helen. Conflicts can arise because of many different factors, but in this
case, these conflicts arise because of Helen s disabilities. In

Altissimo Range Research Paper
The altissimo range is something many saxophonists keep tinkering with even after years of playing.
It s among the biggest frustration points of any new sax player and the reason many feel like giving
up.
But before you pack your saxophone permanently to its box, try the following tips. While mastering
the altissimo range will never be easy, it is possible and you will get there!
Lay a Solid Foundation
Don t venture into the world of the altissimo range before you are able to play the entire range with
proper volume control. You want to play the entire range both very softly and very loud.

  • 3. Humorous Wedding Speech By The Father Of The Groom Ladies and gentlemen, faculty, family, and my fellow classmates of the class of 2018, today is nothing short of auspicious and I m ecstatic to share this milestone with all of you. Before I begin, I would like to thank those teachers who chose this modest speech among the outstanding collection of speeches submitted by my simply amazing peers. Although it is ironic that 99% of this class is older than me and I have been chosen to address the class and impart wisdom and reflection, I find it to be a great honor to deliver the T.C. Abbey Oration, and I promise I do not take it lightly. I have carefully chosen every word and phrase with an understanding of the responsibility bestowed on me. • 4. Jesus Made In America By Stephen J. Nicholas When I was reading the book Jesus Made in America by Stephen J. Nicholas, I came across a very interesting chapter titled Jesus on Vinyl . This chapter discussed in detail the state of the use of Jesus in contemporary music from the 1950s up to the current times. Back 3in the 1950s there were contemporary artists who putting out albums of hymns, like Johnny Cash s Hymns of Johnny Cash. Not surprisingly, the most significant time for Christian gospel music was during the hippie era in the 1960s. During that time, gospel, youth, and music had merged together into songs that preached about Christ and love. Many people became Christians during that time to protest the ongoing war in Vietnam so it would make sense that they would start to make that a main topic in the music of that time. Hippies usually referred to themselves as the Jesus People (named by Duane Pederson who was one of the leaders in Los Angeles) which led to this movement called the Jesus Movement. They claimed to not be a part of the hippie culture that they were born out of nor were they a part of the fundamental church. This caught the attention of several media outlets which drew more people do the Jesus Peoples welcoming environment. Many baptisms happened during this time, like in 1967 when Ted and Liz Wise converted four couples into becoming followers of Jesus, usually while on drugs. The people being baptized actually believed that they were being cleansed while still being intoxicated. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Galoob Case Study Discussion on court rulings: Fair use perspective The district court concluded that Galoob is not liable for copyright infringement under U.S. Code § 107, a fair use defense against direct infringement claim of Nintendo s copyrighted works. In determining fair use factors, the court has greatly relied on the supreme court ruling in the court case Sony v. Universal City Studios. (1984) in the context of contributory infringement. The doctrine of fair use states that any individual may reproduce a copyrighted work for a fair use and that the copyright owner does not possess the exclusive right to such a use. Thus, permitting the holder of the copyrighted material to use it in a reasonable manner without the consent of the copyright owner. In determining Galoob s fair use of Nintendo s copyrighted video games, the courts considered the following four fair use factors. The First Fair Use Factor U.S. Code § 107 (1), emphasis on the purpose and the character of the use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reason being, the use of Game Genie by the consumers is intended for private and non commercial purposes only. Moreover, Galoob is neither a direct or contributory infringer of Nintendo s copyrighted works. The Ninth Circuit court also affirmed with the district court s judgement in favor of Galoob, stating that Galoob did not violate any Nintendo s copyrights but rather constituted fair use under copyright law. Therefore, Galoob is not entitled to either temporary or permanent injunction. The court also emphasized the importance of innovation and the need to allow innovative ideas stating that Game Genie is an important innovation. I agree with the court comments since any acts that would suppress Galoob s Game Genie is a suppression of innovative ideas which would freeze the free flow of information, ideas as well as ... • 6. Federalism Essay Federalism The Constitution of the United States was drafted at a time when our country was in dire need of many answers to political and social questions. In addition to many other things, the drafters of the Constitution were concerned with solidifying our central government and the Constitution was intended to provide a solid structure from which our burgeoning nation could grow. The Constitution gave explicit powers to the federal government and provided the states with the Tenth Amendment which states , Powers not delegated to the United States, nor prohibited to the states, are reserved to the states respectively #8230; Of the enumerated powers given to the federal government by the Constitution, the interpretation of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dual Federalism also relies on the notion that in a court of law, the Tenth Amendment gives the states enough support to declare unconstitutional any act of the national government that infringes on the reserved powers given to the states. Cooperative Federalism provides an entirely different view of the relationship between the federal and state governments. Federal supremacy is the hallmark of this ideology. Supporters of the cooperative federalist view prefer to employ a broad interpretation of the Constitution. The legal basis on which cooperative federalism has been argued is threefold: (1) Enumerated powers (e.g. Commerce Clause) should be interpreted in light of an expansive Necessary and Proper Clause (2) The Supremacy Clause, as prescribed in Article 6, paragraph 2, gives federal actions supremacy over state laws when made in pursuance of the Constitution and when they are made using implied and enumerated powers (3) The Tenth Amendment does not give states the power to contest federal laws. To suggest that that these two ideologies are contradictory is an understatement. To understand which theory best identifies with the correct interpretation of the Constitution, it is necessary to understand the circumstances that created the necessity for a Constitution and the political circumstances that motivated decisions contrary to the correct interpretation of the Constitution. • 7. Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart In Chinua Achebe s 19th century Nigerian novel Things Fall Apart, the Ibo culture has internal problems, which ultimately cause of the downfall of the clan. These problems include a poor social system, superstitious beliefs, and a lack of suitable decision making. These few problems are essential. One of the flaws inside the Ibo culture that eventually leads to their downfall is the social system. The weaker people join the church as a way to gain acceptance. The osu, or outcasts who lived in the Ibo culture want to feel accepted and as a result, follow the Christians. The two outcasts shaved off their hair, and soon they were the strongest adherents of the new faith (157). These two outcasts never have the feeling of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another problem within the clan is the superstition. Superstition is associated with religion in the Ibo culture. The religion is closely associated with tradition. An example of religion and tradition is the egwugwu. The Ibo people do not welcome change. They have superstitions about twins being evil and needing to stay into the forest to die, and an evil forest where if someone lives on it, they will die within a few weeks. The evil forest is actually for disposing dead bodies. The villagers assume all these superstitions true. When the church arrives, the plot of land they are given is from the evil forest. The inhabitants of Mbanta expected them all to be dead within four days (149). The church lives past 4 days and the villagers give them up to 28 days to live. The church thrives and does not die. Villagers are baffled and do not know how to explain this. The villagers have superstitions that have become common knowledge. This common knowledge is abolished right in front of them. Not long after, he won his first three converts (149). The people rely too much on old traditions and superstition. These traditions and superstitions lead to the downfall of the Ibo people because they are destroyable. For the Ibo people, this is destroying what they believe to be true. Doing this would result in people not following the religion anymore just as the three people who convert to Christianity. The lack of moral decision making ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Technology As A Way Of Life And Express The new generation of students entering and already enrolled in university are members of a digital age growing up surrounded by many forms of digital technology as they are the first generation of youth to have internet technology easily available at their disposal. This current generation have already been labelled by sociologist as digital natives (Prensky 2001a) and the net generation (Tapscott 1998) (Prensky 2001a; Tapscott 1998 as cited in Murphy 2010). Technology is not something new to these students as its presence in their life have made them quite comfortable to the idea, as they perceive technology as a way of life and express a need to feel connected at all times (Russo et al. 2014). Although what is new are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As university professors are being presented with new types of students, there is a call to integrate advanced technology into their course design, and ultimately, educators must lead the way and use the technology in a fashion that positively aids their students: technology should be used with the needs of the learners in mind and with the goal of improving student learning as the focus (Russo et al. 2014). If this idea is implemented and acknowledged correctly, then many advantages can arise that enhance student learning in university classrooms. The first benefit of instructors introducing advanced technology into their teaching is that technology connects with students, which ultimately arouses their interest because technology as a whole is a relevant and important part of student s lives. When students are interested and engaged in the class material they become motivated to pay attention and focus on what they are being taught, which leads to an improved retention rate of information. This relates to the DVD that West, Pudsey and Dunk West created for teacher to give to their students to work within their learning, and they found that it easily assimilates into their everyday life world (2010). Another advantage is that the use of technology supports collaboration skills within students. The loggerhead sea turtle, Caretta caretta, is a threatened species with a highly migratory behavior and shifting habitat requirements depending on maturity (NMFS and USFWS 1998). The loggerhead nesting grounds are typically in warm temperate regions (NMFS and USFWS 1998). In the original listing from USFWS (1978), the loggerhead sea turtle was listed as threatened throughout all of its range. The document goes on to state that one of the main threats to the loggerhead sea turtle was that it was being harvested for the shell or as food; the eggs were considered a desired food item and protein source. Loggerhead Observed Bycatch. This graph shows data collected on bycatch rates in SEAMAP analysis data set in the Stock Assessment of Loggerhead Sea Turtles. From NMFS 2001. Nesting habitat degradation is an anthropogenic threat to the loggerhead sea turtles. These threats include coastal development, erosion control barriers or beach armoring, artificial lighting, pollution, removal of native vegetation, and vehicle and pedestrian traffic (NMFS and USFWS 2007). Some solutions include protecting and managing turtles on nesting beaches, monitor coastal construction, implement lighting regulations, screen artificial lighting with vegetation, and impose regulations on beach armoring (NMFS and USFWS 1998). Predation is an important threat to consider in nesting areas for the loggerhead. Many places have depredation to protect the eggs and hatchlings against predators such as feral dogs, raccoons, and foxes (NMFS and USFWS 2007). The future outlook for the loggerhead turtle has been studied using two analyses, one looked at counts of nesting females and the other analysis was a stage based population model done to look at the anthropogenic mortalities with respect to the vital rates of the species (Conant et al. 2009). Using these analyses, it was determined that for the North Atlantic Ocean DPS there was a greater likelihood of quasi extinction for the Northern Gulf of Mexico ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Effects Of Urbanization On The Belizean Society Essay Negative Effects of Urbanization to the Belizean Society Many small town dwellers and villagers had left their hometown for the cities in search of higher standard of living. This movement from rural areas to big cities is called urbanization (Boundless, 2015). As a result, urbanization is the process by which there is an increase in the number and the percentage of people living in the urban settlements and the amount of industrialization of the settlement. In Belize statistics shows that 45% of the population lives in urban areas (Population Reference Bureau, 2014). It also refers to the increase in the size of land area occupied by urban settlements such as towns and cities. Although urbanization has brought about numerous positive impacts, it also has its share of disadvantages as well. The negative impacts of urbanization shall be discussed by means of the economic, environmental and social aspect. The main negative economic impact of urbanization in Belize is unemployment which ties into social conflict theory. According to Guardian Newspaper the Statistical Institute of Belize released its preliminary results for the April 2014 labor force survey on Wednesday, June 25, and it shows that the unemployment rate has decreased from 14.2 percent in September of 2013 to 11.1 percent in April of 2014 (Williams, 2014, P.18). With massive migration from rural areas, jobs in the urban area may not be created fast enough to meet the needs. Therefore, the first problem faced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On October 27, wind speeds were recorded at higher than 50 mph (Alfrey, 2010). Due to this wind, the was an excess in vibrations happening inside of the joints. • 15. Child Beauty Pageants Are Harmful For Young Girls Child beauty pageants have existed for many years, and at first they were considered innocent dress up games. It was not until the T.V. show Toddlers and Tiaras aired that the industry received national attention. The multibillion dollar industry depicted two year olds with wigs, spray tans, waxed eyebrows, and inappropriate attires catering to the audience that craves young faces in the entertainment business. These type of competitions can have negative impacts on a child s life. Child beauty pageants are harmful for young girls because they can be subject to exploitation and promote unhealthy ideals, damaging their self esteem. Child beauty pageants are not a new phenomenon. Michelle Healy, a health and wellness reporter for USA Today, traced back the competition s roots to find that they have been around since 1880 (n.p.). Child beauty pageants are competitions that are primarily based on the physical attributes of the contestants. In the beginning, only older participants were eligible to participate. Now they extended the age requirements and toddlers, only a few months old, are able to participate. This has not only increased the competition, but also made parents more eager to start training their kids at an even earlier age. Recently, they have included more categories such as special talents, community service, costume and dance. Rose denied these allegations for 14 years, even in the face of substantial evidence including an independent investigative report by Jon Dowd (better known as the Dowd Report). The defense mechanism most often used by Rose during this time period was flat out denial. While denying the accusations, Rose likely received negative reinforcement due to the escape of the emotions involved in admitting such a terrible act in the eyes of baseball. A potentially big initial factor behind this is that shortly after the Dowd Report; Rose voluntarily placed himself on baseball s ineligible list in August 1989 with the agreement from then commissioner Bart Giamatti that after a one year banishment from baseball, Rose could apply for reinstatement. A vast amount of literature was created specifically for this group during this era. It was a period when the African American was in vogue and white thinkers and writers were devoting a considerable amount of attention to them (Taylor 91, 90). For the first time, African Americans were being told that it was okay to be proud of who they were. Irene considers Clare to be selfish, cold and hard (Larsen 144). Irene also feels that Clare does not have even in the slightest artistic or sociological interest in the race that some members of other races displayed #8230;[She] cared nothing of the race, she only belonged to it (Larsen 182). It is these wants that marketers have to identify and manipulate to turn them into a need and subsequently a sale, people have narrow, basic needs but almost unlimited wants (Kotler, Armstrong, Wong, Saunders, 2008, p.9). Characteristics of this group would primarily be highlighted as low income and the service being offered may not be a need or even seen as an important want , so it may seem difficult to appeal to this market. However according to Kotler (1980, p.78) a segment must be sufficiently large and with more than 20,000 students living in the city centre it would be essential to identify the student population as potential consumers; this has been implemented through allowing a somewhat exclusive and cheaper deal for students only which allows for the service to appear more lucrative. A successful organisation however will not just appeal to one segment of the market, Marketers often use multiple segmentation bases in an effort to identify smaller, better defined target groups (Kotler Armstrong, 2011). Another form of segmentation which a company can appeal to relates to location; geographic segmentation occurs to attract customers in their immediate surroundings and is a technique shown by the the Pyramids Centre, The rationale behind this approach is that people who ... With the world population being 6.7 billion people, and the Earth producing more than enough food for this amount of people, why is it that there are hungry, malnourished people all around the globe? Hunger is caused by many events, including the poverty trap, natural disasters, war, poor agricultural infrastructure, and over exploitation of the environment. This forces farmers to leave their lands and usually begins their cycle in the poverty trap. Poor agricultural infrastructure causes hunger because the lack of roads, warehouses, and irrigation causes higher transportation costs, a deficiency of storage facilities, and unreliable water supplies. To improve the agricultural infrastructure, however, it would cost a profuse amount of money, which would put the country in greater debt and result in less funding for essential systems, such as health care, which already has too little funding. Over exploitation of the environment is caused by deforestation, over cropping, poor farming practices, and overgrazing. When over exploitation occurs, salination, erosion, and desertification results, causing less fertility and more hunger across the globe. Salination is caused by erosion that strips the earth of its nutrients, leaving behind salty, unfertile land. This causes plants to have less of a chance of growing properly, or not grow at all. When less plants grow, less people are fed, and more go hungry. From 1970 to 1997, humanity was solving the starvation problem worldwide.
