Many young home buyers seek out homes with unique touches, like crown molding and other bold

Convenient Location: Lot sizes don t seem to be high on the priority list for Generation Y buyers,
in fact, many real estate brokers say young homeowners prefer proximity to shopping and dining
over having a yard at all.
Open Spaces: Not just trending with Generation Y buyers, but the open floor concept is becoming
increasingly popular for all buyers these days. Rather than having separated spaces, like formal
dining and living rooms, may Generation Y buyers desire open sightlines between their kitchen and
living areas.
Walk In Closets: What young woman, or man, doesn t want an expansive closet where they can
organize their clothes and shoe collection in? Walk in closets are a high priority for Generation Y
home buyers, in addition to large master bathrooms.
Single Family Homes: Generation Y home buyers are on the hunt for single family homes rather

English Comp II Reflection
Reflective Paper As I reflect on English Comp II 112, I have a variety of mixed emotions about
this. I was unsure of the class at first, for many reasons. My very first day I remember leaving the
J off my professor s name and I just knew it would be a downward spiral after that. To me, writing
was something I loved to do but I had a difficult time putting my thoughts into words and organizing
my paper. Usually, once I typed my introduction I thought my thoughts would just flow from that
point, but they never did. Never the less, I kept striving to have a great paper. In the beginning, I
was anxious to begin my first assignment since I had done so well in English Comp I, I thought,
how hard would English Comp II be? Let s just say, Comp

Essay on Analysis of Birches by Robert Frost
In the poem Birches by Robert Frost, Frost portrays the images of a child growing to adulthood
through the symbolism of aging birch trees. Through these images readers are able to see the
reality of the real world compared to there carefree childhood. The image of life through
tribulation is the main focal point of the poem and the second point of the poem is if one could
revert back to the simpler times of childhood. The language of the poem is entirely arranged
through images, although it contains some diction it lacks sound devices, metaphors, and similes
compared to other published works by Frost. The first half of the poems images are of life, coming
of age, and death.
The first three lines in the poem represent the image of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are dragged to the withered bracken by the load, And they seem not to break; though once
they are bowed is an image of someone who has aged but not passed on yet. So low for long,
they never right themselves represents how they will never be able to relive their childhood.
While the first half of the poem deals with the coming of age the second half of the poem deals
with childhood and wanting to stay young for as long as possible. The first image of childhood by
Frost is when Truth broke in With all her matter of fact about the ice storm, I should prefer to have
some boy bend them. A boy bending the trees in stead of ice storm allows the tree to never age
because they will always return to their original shape and never break by the burden of a load.
This is further expressed By riding them down over and over again Until he took the stiffness
out of them. Once the trees lose their stiffness the boy can play on them repeatedly without
having to worry about them breaking therefore if they never shatter or falling then youthfulness
will always be his. Finally Frost talks about how he would like to go back to being a boy swinging
and climbing on trees just as he did when he was younger by saying So was I once myself a
swinger of birches. And so I dream of going back to be. I d like to get away from earth awhile And
then come back to it and begin over . And life is too much

In Cold Blood by Gerald Clarke
Truman Capote remains a literary great. His works have been adapted into screenplays and
mostly have received critical acclaim. The film Capote was aimed to be biographical in nature
and focused mainly on the years Truman Capote spent writing the novel In Cold Blood . The film
Capote was by directed Bennett Miller after being adapted from a book of the same title, written
by Gerald Clarke. It was set in Kansas and starred Seymour Hoffman as Truman Capoteand
chronicled a six year period in the life of author Truman Capotewhilst he wrote a book entitled In
Cold Blood . The novel In Cold Blood apparently gave rise to a new style of writing as the book
offered much from the murders perspective and introduced a new style of criminal novels.
The film opens and begins in 1959 when Capote reads an article in The New York Times about
the murder of a Kansas farm family. The Clutter family was discovered murdered with no readily
identifiable motive. Truman is already an acclaimed writer, having published books such as the
famed Breakfast at Tiffany s . However, somehow the story appeals to him and manages to
convince The New Yorkermagazine to send him to Kansas to write about it. Almost immediately,
one is struck by the magnificent way in which Seymour Huffman has morphed into Truman Capote;
his voice especially is acutely similar to that of Truman Capote s both in tone and accent. Seymour
Hoffman who has a husky baritone noticeably manages to make his voice shrill,

salt and pepper beard whose portrait hung in front of me. This is the man whose military tactics
are known as the most brilliant of the Civil War. On the other hand, the man seen gazing
lovingly into his wife s eyes in a painting across the room looked anything but stony. I strode
across the entry room of Jackson s former Lexington home and joined the tour guide s side.
Immediately, I and the other tourists were led to Jackson s kitchen. This is where meals for some
of Lexington s finest citizens were prepared. You see, Stonewall was a greatly respected

Revenge is the retaliation for injuries or wrongs; vengeance. Beowulf in this case is seeking

of Herot. Grendel s mother sought revenge on behalf of her son. She welcomed him in her claws
clutched at him savagely but could not harm him. (60) Her attack upon Beowulf was
unsuccessful. Beowulf s barbaric actions were too much for Grendel s mother to handle.

Saint Bonaventure Research Paper
The Influence of Saint Bonaventure on Christian Theology A philosopher is a person who offers
their thoughts, theories, and views on questions that are thought about in logic, ethics, or other

Why Scottish Law Should Be Recognised By International Law
At some point the question arrises as to why Scottish law should in fact be recognised by
International law? International law is commonly believed to only concern itself with international
situations. Additionally what comes to mind is the fact that at present day, Scotland is still a part
of UK, hence the assumption arises that this is an issue much suited if it were to be determined by
UK national law.
However, it seems odd as to why a referendum for independence issue in Crimea is of the interest
of international law, while similarly in Scotland a referendum is said to be governed to the
confines of the jurisdiction of national law? Is it because of the fact that the state of affairs in
Crimeria is one of conflict and the other (Scotland) has thus far remained peaceful? Or is it as a
result of the fact that the need for a referendum in Crimea was the produce of an interceder of a
third party state when right up till this very moment; it was regarded as a Ukranian matter to be
dealt with internally? Is there a systematic legal criterion that needs to be satisfied in order for an
issue to fall under the jurisdiction of international law?
The modern view on international law is that it concerns itself substantially with international
situations as well as internal situations such as one kept within the borders of a singular state: as
per this modern view, the scope of international law is prospectively infinite. An example is where
international law lays down certain

Link between Verbal Fluency and Phonological Short-Term...
Each time a bilingual speaks its brain functions in slightly different ways than that of a monolingual
s. Bilinguals deal with constant dual language activation as they are able to switch between two
sometimes very different languages. The ability to use one language without intrusions from the
other languageis seen as an important topic of study (Van Assche, Duyck, and Gollan, 2013).
However, one of the costs of being bilingual is the reduced exposure to each language. Studies
show that both sequential and simultaneous bilinguals score lower on vocabulary measures than
monolinguals (Rosselli et al., 200 as cited in Kaushankaya, Blumenfeld and Marian, 2011). Strong
evidence for weakened vocabulary performance in bilinguals comes from... Show more content on

Lexical representations are classified for language membership after receiving syntactic properties
(lemmas). This enables the bilingual person to produce language in a selective manner.
Furthermore, bilinguals use task schemas and a Supervisory Attentional System to create, retrieve
and, if necessary to adapt these task schemas. Because bilinguals cannot completely turn off one
language the letter version of the verbal fluency task used in the present study activates twice as
many lexical representations in bilinguals than in monolinguals. This will lead to a greater degree
of competition for activation across languages hence the effect of subject type (Van Assche et al.,
2013). In the present research bilinguals and monolinguals verbal fluency is tested using a classic
letter fluency task. According to the literature bilinguals have a disadvantage in Vocabulary
acquisition that we expect to see manifest in their Verbal Fluency Task scores. Kaushankaya et al.
(2011) were interested in the link between phonological short term memory and vocabulary
development in children and word learning in adults that has been found in previous research
(Gathercole and Adams, 1993,1994; Service and Martin, 1997). For example, adults nonword
repetition performance predicted their ability to learn novel words in a foreign language (Speciale,
Ellis and Bywater, 2004 as cited in Kaushankaya et al.). Similarly, Rosen and Engle (1997) found

Role Of Pharmacy In Pharmacy
Pharmacy as a profession plays a very important part in the overall wellbeing of a patient. This is
an occupation that deals with the administration and pharmacology of medications. A pharmacist
is part of the team that ensures that a patient is nursed to full health, thereby improving the
quality of life. I was twelve years old when I decided that whatever occupation I end up doing, I
will be positively impacting the health of people. I made this decision one summer after school
just let out when I got inflicted with typhoid. I was very upset not just because of the severe
pain, but also because I couldn t go out and play since the illness didn t seem to be dissipating
even after a few days. It is common practice in Nigeria for people to self medicate with drugs like
Paracetamol and Panadol. This is because hospital bills are very expensive and treatment doesn t
begin until payment is made. Therefore, my mom administered these painkillers to me for the
first couple of days although my condition continued to worsen. Finally, we went to the hospital
where I was diagnosed with typhoid and directed to a pharmacist. A few days after taking the
medications given to me by the pharmacist, I started feeling better. This just goes to show that a
doctor s job is incomplete without a pharmacist. There have also been other instances where I
have marveled at the wonder that is medicine. For example, when my mom got diagnosed with
type 2 diabetes and it wasn t an issue so long as she

Source Anonymous Research Paper
Sit tight for the journey ahead as I explain to you, on my coffee induced, sleep deprived binge
writing, the ethics of source anonymity in journalism for the purpose of this paper, I will be
writing about Canada specifically. More specifically, I will touch upon the following: What is the
reliability of the source? Why would a source have to be kept anonymous? To what extent does a
journalist keep a source confidential? Firstly, I will go on to briefly describe the Canadian Act
that protects whistle blowers (the term used to describe someone who brings an issue to light,
almost always in their organization) and the shield law. Next, I will be discussing the ethics in
keeping a source anonymous from the utilitarian point of view, as well as... Show more content on

As stated in the CAJ Ethics Guidelines, under Promises to Sources, it is important to discuss
with a source wanting to be kept anonymous whether or not you, as a journalist, are willing to go
to jail for keeping them anonymous when ordered by a court. It is important to discuss with
your source that, if they mislead or lie to you about anything they say, the promise of keeping
their anonymity is off. There have been many cases of journalists going to jail for keeping a
source anonymous, even in the face of the law. If this doesn t show principle, then I don t know
what does. There is also the aspect of acting from duty: a journalist has the duty of reporting to
the public in order for them to know the truth about what s happening in the world. The right
thing to do is to keep the source anonymous if it means that an important story or high classified
information will be out for the public to know it is their right to know. In this perspective, a
journalist does not look at their personal consequences possible incarceration but on the nature of
their action to liberate the truth. They have the good intention, which makes it deontological. If
we take a look at the first form of the categorical imperatives, it follows this as well because of
the way they act: keeping a promise they made. A journalist also has true freedom because they
have the autonomy to put themselves in a position of being in a bad situation with the law, using
their rationality to weigh the options of leaking a good story or the possibility of suffering
consequences for

What Is The Kirishima Thing Essay
There was a big sensation in Japan when a writer Suzuki Shou published his book School caste in

class. In his book, he reports that this system operates to all students and decides their status in
class. This neologism spread throughout Japan, driving media to produce plenty of pieces

modern Japan society. Unlike other classroom dramas focusing on the most popular guy Kirishima

The Societal Construction Of Sexual Scripts And Gendered...
You lie so much, you have become to believe your own lies (140). The societal construction of
sexual scripts and gendered expectations produces a universal emphasis on heteronormativity. As a
result, any deviance from said expectations frequently results in societal opprobrium and thus a
conditioned fear for those who fail to conform to their hetero dominant culture. In Giovanni s

in cultures more openly accepting than his native Brooklyn. David s own propensity for self
deception and hatred is externalized in his interactions with those who represent the sexual identify
he so desperately tries to deny and repress. This active projection is crucial in understanding David

A Experiment On Hydrogen Peroxide
Hypothesis
Hydrogen peroxide sometimes can be utilized to produce oxygen gas. One of the way to cause
the decomposition reaction is to add some catalyst. Liver solution contains catalase which is from
the liver cells. After the cells being broken down, the catalase is released and dissolves in water. As
the catalyst, liver solution can cause the reaction of hydrogen peroxide and therefore release the
oxygen that is produced in the reaction. If the volume of hydrogen peroxide increases while other
controlled variables remain the same, then the volume of oxygen gas will also increase, because
the more reactant there is, the more gas will be produced. An increase in volume also means an
increase in mass, as well as the number of molecules in the reactant.
Raw Data Table

Acting With Integrity And Fairness Essay
Professional Growth Plan #3 Final Reflective Essay
Acting with Integrity and Fairness and in Ethical Manner ELCC (Educational Leadership
Constituent Council) Standard 5 defines and describes Acting with Integrity and Fairness and in
Ethical Manner as A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all
students and staff by acting with integrity and fairness and in an ethical manner . The administrator
treats people fairly, equitably, and with dignity and respect. The leader protects the rights and
confidentiality of the students and staff. The educational leader also demonstrates appreciation for
sensitivity to diversity. With the help of the school supervisor, I have developed two goals for this
project, and they are: 1.The student intern will learn about the due process procedures for student
discipline, and 2.The student intern will review the current administration of student discipline and
attendance policies.
Administrators come across situations every day that demand due process. As an instructional
leader, the principal should treat everyone fairly and procedurally. I have examined the laws of
Due Process and their application at Palmetto School. This project benefitted me in learning about
the due process procedures for student discipline and create a guide to assist the staff in
understanding due process. As part of my evaluation, I have interviewed the assistant principal,

The Components Of The Sherman Antitrust Act-1890
Peyton Fox 12/3/17 Block B7 Unit 4 legislation Project Sherman Antitrust Act 1890 The Sherman
Antitrust Act is the oldest of America s Antitrust laws. It was signed into law by President
Benjamin Harrison on July 2, 1890. The purpose of the Sherman Antitrust Act was to preserve
free competition in business and made it a crime to take over any part of trade or commerce. It
was intended to regulate interstate commerce, and to regain a balance in industry allowing equal
opportunities to all businesses. The Sherman Antitrust Act had its supporters and detractors.
Supporters of the Sherman Antitrust Act were the farmers because they had no competition
with the big businesses. They also stated that prohibiting unreasonable restraints on trade would
allow them to expand their business. Those opposed of the Sherman Antitrust Act believed that
big companies should be able to decide what happens in business markets. Business owners also
opposed this due to protect the process of competition. Applying strong incentives for businesses
to operate efficiently, keeping prices down and quality up. Homestead Act 1862 The Homestead
Act was passed on May 20, 1862. It stated anyone over the age of 21 who was the head of a family
could obtain up to 160 acres of public land if they lived on it for five years and make
improvements. It was intended to move more settlers west, to give more free states voice in
congress. People decided that it would be profitable to turn

the fermi paradox we either pass this wall (barrier) or not. I have my conclusion of why we will

the barrier that we don t really have any research on. El ninos and la ninas are the cause. To

Have you ever sneezed two to four times or maybe 40 times when you went out for a walk, or
when you went to the picture studio to have your picture taken and just could not take a picture
without sneezing? Achoo Syndrome or Autosomal Dominant Compelling Helio Ophthalmic
Outburst Syndrome is a condition that causes uncontrollable sneezing because of bright light or
intense sunlight. Achoo Syndrome is also known as photic sneezing which means too much
sunlight or too much light can cause a person to sneeze multiple times or maybe once. This
syndrome is a dominant trait so therefore if one parent has the syndrome there is 50% chance that
their child could have it too. Achoo syndrome has not been yet evidentially or clearly researched.
Scientists do not understand how sunlight or light flashes can cause a person to sneeze, every time
a person is exposed to it. Some researchers think Achoo syndrome is caused by a malfunction in the
nerve which is connected to the trigeminal nerve, and that could be connected to the visual nerve
which makes people sneeze when exposed to direct sunlight or light. Achoo syndrome affects about

Of Julius Caesar And Kamehameha As A Effective Leader
Effective Leader Essay Kamehameha the Great was a remarkable leader who fought for his
people and for his cause: to unite the Hawaiian Islands. The process was long, but the outcome
was worth it. The two remaining rulers of the Kingdoms of Hawai i came to a consensus and
Hawai i had peace for the first time in three decades. During his rule, Kamehameha with help from
foreign advisors made Hawai i wealthier and safer. On a different note, Julius Caesars skill in
politics and warfare helped him earn the title of consul. Caesar used his resources and power to
expand Rome s empire, his fortune to distribute land to the unfortunate, and his authority to
legislate laws for his people (PBS.com). In the end, despite being from different centuries and
countries, Kamehameha the Great and Julius Caesar were both effective leaders because they
reliable, benevolent, and did what could benefit their people.
Both Julius Caesar and Kamehameha aided their countries to become wealthier and helped in times
of need. As king, Kamehameha took part in a trade between foreigners. While trading, Hawaii
earned most of its earnings from trading (mainly because of the thirst for sandalwood). However,
the sandalwood population began to plummet and, as a result, Kamehameha placed a kapu on
sandalwood younglings (26). In Rome, many were unemployed or poor, so Caesar went to fix this
problem. Some of the unemployed were offered jobs overseas while those who stayed behind
relied on a monthly grain supply.

Relevant Legal Issues Consent and Guardianship In order for Megan to have valid consent, four
elements must be considered. Firstly, it must be voluntary, meaning consent must be given
freely without persuasion or threatening influence (Forrester Griffiths, 2010). Consent is only
valid for the procedure that Megan has consented too. No other procedures may be carried out
(Sheilds, 2010). Megan must be informed of the material and significant risks associated with
the treatment for consent to be valid (Sheilds, 2010). Lastly the patient must have legal capacity,
that is; having the ability to understand what they are giving consent for, and be of legal age (18)
(Sheilds, 2010). Due to the fact that Megan is 17, she is legally classified as a young person
Guardianship and Administration Act 1986 (Vic)(page 140 141), this means that her legal
guardians (her parents) may provide consent on her behalf due to fact she is a minor, however
exceptions to the rule enable Megan to provide consent in the circumstances that she is deemed
competent (Sheilds, 2010). This can be achieved by a Gillick competency test in which will apply
an assessment an individual young person s level of maturity and understanding in relation to the
treatment proposed (New South Wales Law Reform Commission, 2004). A similar precedence

Mid Tudor Crisis
To what extent was there a mid Tudor crisis, 1539 1563?
The concept of a mid Tudor crisis arrived under the scrutiny of modern scholarship largely
through a priori reasoning and was first broadly promulgated by W.R.D. Jones in his 1973 book
The Mid Tudor Crisis1539 1563 . Jones attested a series of problems that seem to have been ever
present in mid Tudor England (Jones, 1973, p. 6), exhibiting a close relationship (Jones, 1973, p.
6) with one another as a crisis . This compounded succession of agricultural volatility, deficiencies
in administrative decree, specifically the troubled shadowed reigns of Edward VI and Mary I,
(Jones, 1973, p.19) and divisive religious reformation, as Jones was to surmise, directly resulted in

(Matusiak, 2005, p.33) was further exacerbated by the collapse of the wool trade; exports
plummeting by 35% in 1552, paralleled in the forthcoming years by the depredation of the
agricultural industry as a repercussion of the 1554 1556 harvest failures (caused by the

necessary commodities (food, drink, housing) cost the lower classes 80% (Jones, 1973, p. 78) of

There are still many challenges that are hindering the future development in globalized trade.
Environmental issues, energy demands and issues in the supply chain field are just a few of these
challenges. An example of the energy issue would be the ongoing fluctuations in energy costs.
Freight and air transportation both depend on petroleum. Typically, the times of higher energy
prices creates a rationalization in the international trade market and the underlying supply chains.
Many the global policies and guidelines in the European Union rest within each member s state.
Due to this, the effectiveness of the European Union guidance relies on the willingness of member
states to adopt the policy. One of the greatest outcomes of the European Union applying and

Schenck V. United States Court Case Analysis

government decided to join World War I. Hence, they held a draft, by choosing random male
citizens who were in between the age of eighteen to forty five to fight for the country. At this time,
Charles T. Schenck was the general secretary of the U.S. socialist party in Philadelphia in the early
20th century. He was against the U.S. entry into World War I and its implementation of a military
draft. Thus, he distributed over twenty thousand flyers to U.S. citizens in objection against the draft
process. Therefore, the government arrested him for violating the Espionage Act. The congress

WWI became illegal. The U.S. government declared the Espionage Act to increase people s

U.S. More than two thousand people were arrested while the Espionage Act was in effect. Although,
most young men wanted to take a part in the war, others were living in fear. They were afraid to talk
against the government and the war in public. This act associated a sense of a dictatorship with the

Overpopulation And Overconsumption
Overpopulation has been correlated to some of the most overwhelming problems in the world
today. Population growth has been increasing dramatically for if humans have existed, but as of
more recently have been increasing more dramatically. Many theorists such as Thomas Malthus and
the Cornucopians made attempts to try to better understand the trend of overpopulation. Both had
very different views towards if populationgrowth was a negative or positive effect on consumption.
The true question to both is whether overpopulation or overconsumption is a bigger factor that
leads to the environmental problems that are present today. While it could be said, population is
growing at an exponential rate, overconsumption is the true problem of what is leading to resource
scarcity. Both problems can be assessed more accurately using real world market based and
governance approaches. Many theories have been connected to how scarcity is related to either
overpopulation or overconsumption. One of the main arguments for overpopulation and
overconsumption was created by Thomas Malthus. Malthus stated that population grew
exponentially and food sources were linearly growing by nature (Robins et al. 2014). By this
accord, consumption would deteriorate the supply of food since the rates are so much more for
population growth. While the argument seems sound mathematically, Malthus fails to incorporate
the political or economic attributes contributing to consumption. Malthus also failed to

Importance Of The Depth Of Field
What if we end up in an area that has an abundance of distracting elements and we are unable to
find a vantage point to obscure these items through composition? If are fortunate enough to be in
possession of a telephoto lens, perhaps a 70 200mm, we can adjust the aperture to a small f
/number such as f/2.8 or f/4.0 and use the lens near the 200mm end of its range and with the
narrow depth of field make these distractions disappear as soft out of focus colors and shapes.
Thereby placing more emphasis on our subject.
On the opposite end of the scale, what if we want a foreground element in focus along with the
railroad in the background as it passes through a scene we have framed up with a desire to capture?
If we should have a wide angle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I stood and surveyed the scene, I observed people of all ages, walking, jogging and cycling
along through here. Some even stopping for a bit to enjoy the view.
And with the use of depth of field, I could tell this story. I had my 24 70mm lens already mounted
from earlier usage on this day and I set up my tripod and camera in such a way to frame with two
posts anchoring the edges of my frame. With it being afternoon, the sun would be backlighting the
leaves from camera left, causing them to glow, and slivers of dappled light would play across the
decking of the bridge. This was foreground interest that gave context to my location and
photograph. I chose a focus point based on using what is known as Hyperlocal Distance. Which in
the simplest terms possible means that for any given focal length and aperture, there is a distance
that when focused at will see the entire scene rendered acceptably sharp.
Having my smartphone with me, I looked up what the Hyperlocal Distance for the 32mm focal
length that my framing choice and aperture of f/8 dictated from online charts readily available to
determine Hyperlocal Distance. The charts cover both full frame and crop sensor cameras and
numerous focal lengths and after checking the data for my crop sensor camera, I selected to focus
at 25 feet and than took a test shot. The LCD preview showed I had acceptable

Blake Romney Ethics Case, Unit 5 Ac330
This week s Discussion topic is BYP7 7, Ethics Case, on page 330 of your textbook which reads as
follows:
Blake Romney became Chief Executive Officer of Peters Inc. two years ago. At the time, the
company was reporting lagging profits, and Blake was brought in to stir things up. The company
has three divisions, electronics, fiber optics, and plumbing supplies. Blake has no interest in
plumbing supplies, and one of the first things he did was to put pressure on his accountants to
reallocate some of the company s fixed costs away from the other two divisions to the plumbing
division. This had the effect of causing the plumbing division to report losses during the last two
years; in the past it had always reported low, but acceptable, ... Show more content on

The loss of jobs can have a devastating impact on a community and on the morale of remaining
employees. From a financial perspective, closing a division that is reporting losses will not
necessarily increase the reported net income of the company. The reason: if fixed costs that have
been allocated to a division that is closed are reallocated to the remaining divisions, the company s
net income might actually decrease. This sounds like it would most likely be the case at Phelps.
(b) It is not unusual to reevaluate fixed cost allocations periodically. However, the allocationshould
be based on the underlying economics of the situation rather than the motives of individuals.
(c) Robert should explain to the board of directors that the change in income is due to a
reallocation and that closing the plumbing division is not advisable. In this case, being honest is
not only the ethical thing to do, but it will also maximize the company s net

Orderly Departure Study
Australia has been involve in many wars such as the Sudan war or World War 2. Australia has one
of the most diverse cultures concentrated in a small region, this is due to many factors, such as
wars. The first generation of the ethinic groups have most likely fled their home land to Australia
for safety, oppurtunity or resources.
During the Vietnam war, many civilians have migrated around the world, including Australia.
Before the war, Vietnamese and other non european migrants found it incredibly hard to gain
permission to migrate to Australia due to the White Austrlia policy. However, the aftermath of the
Vietnam war forced Australia to take refugees in, such as the Vietnamese and Indo Chinese. Note
that there was fewer than 2000 Vietnamese born people in Australia prior to the... Show more

Many of the Iraq culture originated as refugees from the Iraq first gulf war. Similar situation to the
Vietnam war, Australia had obligation to take in refugees.
Many other wars, such as the Mayalsian, Korean, Japenese, Chinese boxer rebellion and South
African, happening prior to the Vietnam war has attracted refugees, not many came due to the
White Australian policy and the fact that the Orderly Departure program did not influence the
refugees, which is why there is a lower percentage of these cultures (excluding the Chinese due to
their migration after the Vietnam War).
Finally, the Aboriginal culture has been dwindled, where certain clans have died out. This is mainly
due to the White Australian Policy and the Stolen
Generation. But it is the first colonial wars that drove the Indigeneous population to near extinction
. Because the Indigeneous did not own the land (terra nulius) the Britains saw it as a chance to take

leading to

Starbucks Internationalization in Recent Years
With the first coffee shop opened in Sydney CBD, Starbucks entered into Australian market in
July of 2000 and then expanded rapidly to 85 coffee shops in the following years. However, in
August of 2008, Starbucks Coffee Company Australia announced to shut down more than 60 of its
85 coffee shops and to date it has scaled down to 22 opened in Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast,
the Sunshine Coast and Melbourne (Starbucks2010).
This writing will focus on the analysis on the attributes of Starbucks products and marketing, and

What customers need is consistent quality services, which is discovered in the report by Chen and
Hu (2010) that if customers feel confident that they can have a consistent quality consumption
experience each time they come, they tend to choose the same coffee shop to enjoy their coffee.
And such favorable attitude towards the service they have received could evolve into customer
loyalty, since the essence of customer loyalty is, as Barnes (2001) depicts, all about how you make
them feel , vice versa. Customer loyalty may result in consistent purchasing behavior of the brand
over time. Therefore, it could be concluded that the all round quality service performed by staff
with high consistency could be the competitive advantage of Starbucks, which can make it special
and achieve long run sustainability in Australian market.
In light of this finding, Starbucks Australia should devote more efforts to human resources
management. More specifically, a series of human resource practice could be designed and
implemented to strategically improve employees competency and working attitude. For example,
staff training could help them be more competent to perform all tasks involved up to standards and
with high consistency and staff motivation could boost morale and let them know what is expected
of them in a quite specific way. Both staff training and motivation could increase employees
satisfaction to the extent that they are willing to exert effort to perform the

Analysis Of Sweetness By Toni Morrison
In an effort to explain the impact of colorism in black communities, Rita B. Dandridge once
stated, In African American culture, class bias is the handmaiden of intraracial prejudice that
privileges the near white or light complexioned person over the darker hued. These privileges
include more desirable jobs, houses in more prestigious neighborhoods, and better educational
opportunities based on one having a lighter skin complexion. Since whites have more privileges
in society simply based on the color of their skin, it is common for blacks to want to be white or
be able to at least pass as white. In the short story, Sweetness by the author Toni Morrison, the

Even though her mother was a light skin black woman, she did not want to live her life as a lie,
by living as a white woman. Her mother embraced her blackness, which forced her to find work
as a maid; her employers did not treat her with the same dignity as a white woman would
receive. After seeing what her mother went through for accepting her blackness and living her
life as a black woman, she knew that was not the life she wanted to live. Even though Sweetness
knew she was a black woman, she did not want to face the harsh reality of being one. But how
else can we hold on to a little dignity? How else can we avoid being spit on in a drugstore,
elbowed at the bus stop, having to walk in the gutter to let whites have the whole sidewalk,
being charged a nickel at the grocer s for a paper bag that s free to white shoppers? Let alone all
the name calling. I heard about all of that and much, much more. (Morrison) After hearing about
all of the stories that other blacks went through, Sweetness knew her only way out was to use her
light skin to her advantage. It was not a difficult decision for her to make because she knew all
of the advantages that came with it. By living life as a white woman, Sweetness was able to have
a job at a hospital and live a life that was much easier than her mother s. But after having a dark

Swimming Biomechanics
If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You have another chance. ~Andrea Boydston
I began swimming at the age of 4 and I was fortunate to earn a college swimming scholarship at
Purdue University. At Purdue, I was a good swimmer and really worked hard each and every
day. However, my at the time girlfriend (and current wife, also a swimmer) always said I looked
like a recreational swimmer! She made this comment as I wore old school foam goggles and my
head moved all around during freestyle. Needless to say, my breathing biomechanics were far from
ideal, despite being on a collegiate swimming scholarship!
Breathing is a simplistically complex task. Everyone can breathe, but the mechanics are
complicated. Unfortunately, in swimming this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, this information isn t ground breaking. Yet, if one is anxious or stressed, they ll begin
taking short, shallow breaths. This short, shallow breathing is highly damaging to swimming
performance, as it will increase your breathing frequency and fatigue of the inspiratory muscles.
Moreover, you ll constantly feel out of breath and tired with this fast and shallow breathing pattern.
Tip: If you can t stay relaxed, hold you breath for 3 seconds underwater, then exhale directly before
your next breath.
Lifting the head or armpit breathing are two common swimming flaws during the freestyle
breathing motion. These motions greatly impede the swimming stroke as they create more drag.
Recently, Formosa (2014) researched breathing and drag in elite male and female swimmers.
The male participants demonstrated that the breathing action caused a greater (26 %) net drag force
compared to the females (16 %). To further understand the influence of breathing on swimming
technique, each stroke was analyzed and comparisons were made between the breathing and non

Descriptive Essay About Summer Vacation
In February during spring break, my Dad, nicknamed Moose, arranges a trip to stay on Seagull
Lake. This is not like your ordinary trip; this is winter camping in the Boundary Waters, which
requires hard work, the willingness to help out at all times, and a lot of preparation. This trip
consists of cross country skiing, pulling 300 lbs on a sled across a long frozen lake, sleeping in
tents in weather that is 20 degrees below zero, and portaging 2 miles to get the chance to fish on a
secret fishinglake. The people that go on this 5 day tripevery year are Moose, my second cousin
Paul Gerten and his dog, my uncle Danny, their friend Sterling Black, and I, although Danny had
knee issues for a while which didn t allow him to come this trip. The year was 2016, and Sterling
decided to bring his nephew named Birkley, whose mother had just passed away. Also, Moose
brought along his work friend Brett Strand from Lifetime Fitness.
We start our trip by driving up to my cabin in Silver Bay, Minnesota. The first night is a Thursday
night without the old men s wives, so we go to a bar called the the Green Door where the men
drink a bunch of beers and watch the wild game. Birkley and I of course only drink Coca Cola.
Being the one out of the group that is too young to drink alcohol, and also the kid that can drive,
I have to sober cab for the men. When we get back to the cabin, many games of cribbage are

Drug Trafficking In Venezuela
Drug trafficking is a big global issue drugs are manufactured and then illegally distributed all over
the globe. The most common drugs being trafficked are cocaine and opiates, and they tend to
originate from South America and Asia. Back in 2016, the Spanish Guardia Civil began an
international investigation on a group they suspected was trafficking drugs in sailboats. The
investigators were able to intercept one of these sailboats and found a false bottom that had 400kg
(around 880 lbs) of cocaine hidden. Continuing the investigation, the team found that those sailboats
were part of a bigger, two part operation of drugtrafficking and money laundering, which was being
overseen by a Spaniard hiding in Venezuela. The first part of the operation

Descartes Discourse Method
Descartes, A discourse on the method, 1637 coincides with the authors argument the although
Descartes was taught at the best school in England he left without feeling intellectually
accomplished, that he instead had doubts which reviled to him how ignorant he was. That
Descartes believing he was ignorant in order to gain knowledge created a method that could
establish absolute truthif only for himself as although he can try to show others what he believes
they have to come to an agreement with it in order to internalize it. In this method Descartes would
disregard his senses and use logic.
Descartes decided that he would not accept everything he was told to be true nor would he trust
what he perceived to be true because he, like everyone else,

Stereotypes In The Lion King
Films serve as a means of communication and are composed of millions of different elements that
form a narrative. Also, they use original techniques to deliver messages in ways that the creator
wants them to deliver. Usually, children s films contain a variety of implicit messages, because the
language should be simple, and in turn, it should contain fun elements. However, one of the best
ways to create stereotypes in cultureis the use of children s movies, because people build their
personality and critical thinking in their first years of life. An example of this is the movie The
Lion King, where the characters are animals, but also each one plays a role of a human being
within a society. This filmshows a patriarchal and sexist society, where men have all the power not
only in government but also within their own family; women, by contrast, have a secondary role
always being focused on the service of men and their children. It also has an implicit... Show more

of the ability to govern. Nala, the little lioness that is shown as a stronger female with a firm

essential to the survivor of the pride. Moreover, from the beginning of the film, the wife of
Mufasa, Sarabi is forgotten. She is only mentioned a few times in order to demonstrate that their
role is to serve, as Mufasa expressed when he said to her, At dawn, he is your son . Even when
Simba is thought to be dead, his mother is not presented to show concern or sadness, which

Epistolary Novels and Mimetic Devices
CHAPTER FIVE: Epistolary Novels And Mimetic Devices
We have seen how the use of mimetic devices contributed to Still Alice and Turn of Mind. In
Chapter FIVE I explore the possibility of using Facebook, (a twenty first century mode of
communication), as a mimetic device to augment conventional prose fiction. In this chapter I want
to show how mimetic devices such as letters, bank statements and reports have already been used
in epistolary fiction so that I can consider their use as models for my own work.
I touch briefly on the history of the use of mimetic devices in the epistolary novel and go on to
discuss how mimetic devices in So Much For That , House Mother Normal and Flowers for
Algernon allow us to hear different voices and create texture. In SMFT chapters are headed with
a bank statement showing how illness drains people s savings. In HMN, each character is
preceded by a clinical report which includes their cognitive ability. FFA uses a diary or progris
report to tell the story. I discuss how these mimetic devices contribute to the story.
In the 18th century, letter writing took on great importance as a new mode of communication.
(Studying the Novel 2001) In Pamela by Richardson, letters between Pamela and her family are
used to tell the story of Pamela s resistance to seduction by her employer. The reader is puzzled
by the sudden cessation of Pamela s family s replies to her letters, only to find that this is because
Pamela s employer has insisted on

Analysis Of East Of Eden By John Steinbeck
Steinbeck s own family and their dreams was a great inspiration for his multi generational novel
East of Eden. His maternal grandfather Samuel Hamilton emigrated from Ireland in the 19th
century to buy land, build a ranch and raise his family in Salinas Valley. From an online article
John Steinbeck s Derry Roots we find out that Samuel Hamilton was born at Ballykelly on 7
October 1830... Samuel emigrated at the age of 17, at the height of the Great Famine, to New
York where he married a young Irish girl, Elizabeth Fagan in the summer of 1849. They came to
California and set up a ranch in the foothills of the Salinas Valley. When Samuel came to
California, all the fertile land was taken. As Steinbeck writes in the first chapter of East of... Show

While the book progressed, the focus switched from the Hamiltons to the Trasks. As the title of
the book suggests, East of Eden was an allegory to a book of Genesis, namely the story of Cain and
Abel. The siblings rivalry for a love of their father transcends through generations. Adam vs.
Charles, Aron vs. Cal. Many of critics attacked Steinbeck for having showed all the symbols too
obviously and therefore the novel is not convincing. As Warren French points out, The
theological disputation is interesting as an exposition of Steinbeck s ideas, but these lack
consistency and might be more appropriately discussed in an essay than a novel (156). Owens
argues that East of Eden may be a much more subtle and complex construction than we are at
first prepared to believe, one deserving of more careful scrutiny than we have yet brought to
bear (74). The most memorable character is Aron and Cal s mother, the amoral Cathy/Kate. She
represents everything evil. Kate is manipulative and is not afraid to kill anyone who stands in
her way. It has been said that Steinbeck s second wife Gwyn was in a way an inspiration for Kate s
character. Kate was a contrast to Samuel s character. Steinbeck s grandfather is here portrayed as a
wise and kind family man, a dreamer, always willing to help. Samuel Hamilton becomes a force
for good, a kind of savior, water witch, grail knight, and non teleological visionary all rolled into
one (Owens 66).
The East of Eden story circles around the Hebrew word: Timshel , loosely translated by a servant
Lee as Thou mayest. It was Samuel, who had a meaningful conversation with Lee, when he realized
what the word meant to

Bobbie Ann Mason Research Paper
Southern writer Bobbie Ann Mason was born on May 1, 1940 in Mayfield, Kentucky to her
parents Wilburn and Christina Mason along with her four other siblings. It was when she was
still a child that her interest in writing emerged and she began writing stories influenced by
children s mystery novels (Bobbie Ann Mason). These works would continue to influence her
writing even in her later years. Bobbie Ann Mason is still alive today, and is approaching her
older years of life, but she still publishes work, and travels around doing book reading and
signings (Bobbie Ann Mason). Her entire life has been dedicated to writing, she attended school
for it, pursued a teaching career in it, and dedicated herself full time as a writer (Bobbie Ann
Mason).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her criticism of Mason and comparison of these three stylistically different writers, she is
quoted on an important aspect of the meaning of their, and especially Mason s, stories, Why do
we read novels and short stories? For pleasure; for instruction; for the solace of seeing others in
familiar dilemmas; for the opportunity to see what is unfamiliar, perhaps strange; for hope.
These writers, in different ways, satisfy these requirements. (Becker). Not only does she raise
incredible praise for these writers, she also gives us an opportunity to see how Mason s writing
fits into the other writers of her time. She shows us what the purpose of the short story is in
Mason s world, for hope (Becker). Mason in particular inspires this hope because although she is
introducing her readers to the characters of rural Kentucky, change is something that, on some
level, every reader can relate to and understand (Becker). This idea of understanding can even be
compared and seen throughout the criticisms of character presentation by Michiko Kakutani, who
has an appreciation for the way she lays out her characters to her audience, and the commentary by
Robert Newman on how she relates to her readers through her characters. The way these two
appreciate Bobbie Ann Mason s character development is the same way that Robin Becker
appreciates how she presents the story itself to her

My very first day I remember leaving the J off my professor s name and I just knew it would be a downward spiral after that. To me, writing was something I loved to do but I had a difficult time putting my thoughts into words and organizing my paper. Usually, once I typed my introduction I thought my thoughts would just flow from that point, but they never did. Never the less, I kept striving to have a great paper. In the beginning, I was anxious to begin my first assignment since I had done so well in English Comp I, I thought, how hard would English Comp II be? Let s just say, Comp ... • 5. Essay on Analysis of Birches by Robert Frost In the poem Birches by Robert Frost, Frost portrays the images of a child growing to adulthood through the symbolism of aging birch trees. Through these images readers are able to see the reality of the real world compared to there carefree childhood. The image of life through tribulation is the main focal point of the poem and the second point of the poem is if one could revert back to the simpler times of childhood. The language of the poem is entirely arranged through images, although it contains some diction it lacks sound devices, metaphors, and similes compared to other published works by Frost. The first half of the poems images are of life, coming of age, and death. The first three lines in the poem represent the image of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are dragged to the withered bracken by the load, And they seem not to break; though once they are bowed is an image of someone who has aged but not passed on yet. So low for long, they never right themselves represents how they will never be able to relive their childhood. While the first half of the poem deals with the coming of age the second half of the poem deals with childhood and wanting to stay young for as long as possible. The first image of childhood by Frost is when Truth broke in With all her matter of fact about the ice storm, I should prefer to have some boy bend them. A boy bending the trees in stead of ice storm allows the tree to never age because they will always return to their original shape and never break by the burden of a load. This is further expressed By riding them down over and over again Until he took the stiffness out of them. Once the trees lose their stiffness the boy can play on them repeatedly without having to worry about them breaking therefore if they never shatter or falling then youthfulness will always be his. Finally Frost talks about how he would like to go back to being a boy swinging and climbing on trees just as he did when he was younger by saying So was I once myself a swinger of birches. And so I dream of going back to be. I d like to get away from earth awhile And then come back to it and begin over . And life is too much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. In Cold Blood by Gerald Clarke Truman Capote remains a literary great. His works have been adapted into screenplays and mostly have received critical acclaim. The film Capote was aimed to be biographical in nature and focused mainly on the years Truman Capote spent writing the novel In Cold Blood . The film Capote was by directed Bennett Miller after being adapted from a book of the same title, written by Gerald Clarke. It was set in Kansas and starred Seymour Hoffman as Truman Capoteand chronicled a six year period in the life of author Truman Capotewhilst he wrote a book entitled In Cold Blood . The novel In Cold Blood apparently gave rise to a new style of writing as the book offered much from the murders perspective and introduced a new style of criminal novels. The film opens and begins in 1959 when Capote reads an article in The New York Times about the murder of a Kansas farm family. The Clutter family was discovered murdered with no readily identifiable motive. Truman is already an acclaimed writer, having published books such as the famed Breakfast at Tiffany s . However, somehow the story appeals to him and manages to convince The New Yorkermagazine to send him to Kansas to write about it. Almost immediately, one is struck by the magnificent way in which Seymour Huffman has morphed into Truman Capote; his voice especially is acutely similar to that of Truman Capote s both in tone and accent. Seymour Hoffman who has a husky baritone noticeably manages to make his voice shrill, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Biography Of Thomas Stonewall Jackson There stands Jackson like a stone wall, called General Bernard Bee years ago. Stony is the word I would use to describe Thomas Stonewall Jackson, the firm faced man with deep set eyes and salt and pepper beard whose portrait hung in front of me. This is the man whose military tactics are known as the most brilliant of the Civil War. On the other hand, the man seen gazing lovingly into his wife s eyes in a painting across the room looked anything but stony. I strode across the entry room of Jackson s former Lexington home and joined the tour guide s side. Immediately, I and the other tourists were led to Jackson s kitchen. • 10. Why Scottish Law Should Be Recognised By International Law At some point the question arrises as to why Scottish law should in fact be recognised by International law? International law is commonly believed to only concern itself with international situations. Additionally what comes to mind is the fact that at present day, Scotland is still a part of UK, hence the assumption arises that this is an issue much suited if it were to be determined by UK national law. However, it seems odd as to why a referendum for independence issue in Crimea is of the interest of international law, while similarly in Scotland a referendum is said to be governed to the confines of the jurisdiction of national law? Is it because of the fact that the state of affairs in Crimeria is one of conflict and the other (Scotland) has thus far remained peaceful? Or is it as a result of the fact that the need for a referendum in Crimea was the produce of an interceder of a third party state when right up till this very moment; it was regarded as a Ukranian matter to be dealt with internally? Is there a systematic legal criterion that needs to be satisfied in order for an issue to fall under the jurisdiction of international law? The modern view on international law is that it concerns itself substantially with international situations as well as internal situations such as one kept within the borders of a singular state: as per this modern view, the scope of international law is prospectively infinite. An example is where international law lays down certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Link between Verbal Fluency and Phonological Short-Term... Each time a bilingual speaks its brain functions in slightly different ways than that of a monolingual s. Bilinguals deal with constant dual language activation as they are able to switch between two sometimes very different languages. The ability to use one language without intrusions from the other languageis seen as an important topic of study (Van Assche, Duyck, and Gollan, 2013). However, one of the costs of being bilingual is the reduced exposure to each language. Studies show that both sequential and simultaneous bilinguals score lower on vocabulary measures than monolinguals (Rosselli et al., 200 as cited in Kaushankaya, Blumenfeld and Marian, 2011). Strong evidence for weakened vocabulary performance in bilinguals comes from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lexical representations are classified for language membership after receiving syntactic properties (lemmas). This enables the bilingual person to produce language in a selective manner. Furthermore, bilinguals use task schemas and a Supervisory Attentional System to create, retrieve and, if necessary to adapt these task schemas. Because bilinguals cannot completely turn off one language the letter version of the verbal fluency task used in the present study activates twice as many lexical representations in bilinguals than in monolinguals. This will lead to a greater degree of competition for activation across languages hence the effect of subject type (Van Assche et al., 2013). In the present research bilinguals and monolinguals verbal fluency is tested using a classic letter fluency task. According to the literature bilinguals have a disadvantage in Vocabulary acquisition that we expect to see manifest in their Verbal Fluency Task scores. Kaushankaya et al. • 12. Role Of Pharmacy In Pharmacy Pharmacy as a profession plays a very important part in the overall wellbeing of a patient. This is an occupation that deals with the administration and pharmacology of medications. A pharmacist is part of the team that ensures that a patient is nursed to full health, thereby improving the quality of life. I was twelve years old when I decided that whatever occupation I end up doing, I will be positively impacting the health of people. I made this decision one summer after school just let out when I got inflicted with typhoid. I was very upset not just because of the severe pain, but also because I couldn t go out and play since the illness didn t seem to be dissipating even after a few days. It is common practice in Nigeria for people to self medicate with drugs like Paracetamol and Panadol. This is because hospital bills are very expensive and treatment doesn t begin until payment is made. Therefore, my mom administered these painkillers to me for the first couple of days although my condition continued to worsen. Finally, we went to the hospital where I was diagnosed with typhoid and directed to a pharmacist. A few days after taking the medications given to me by the pharmacist, I started feeling better. This just goes to show that a doctor s job is incomplete without a pharmacist. There have also been other instances where I have marveled at the wonder that is medicine. More specifically, I will touch upon the following: What is the reliability of the source? Why would a source have to be kept anonymous? To what extent does a journalist keep a source confidential? Firstly, I will go on to briefly describe the Canadian Act that protects whistle blowers (the term used to describe someone who brings an issue to light, almost always in their organization) and the shield law. Next, I will be discussing the ethics in keeping a source anonymous from the utilitarian point of view, as well as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stated in the CAJ Ethics Guidelines, under Promises to Sources, it is important to discuss with a source wanting to be kept anonymous whether or not you, as a journalist, are willing to go to jail for keeping them anonymous when ordered by a court. It is important to discuss with your source that, if they mislead or lie to you about anything they say, the promise of keeping their anonymity is off. There have been many cases of journalists going to jail for keeping a source anonymous, even in the face of the law. If this doesn t show principle, then I don t know what does. There is also the aspect of acting from duty: a journalist has the duty of reporting to the public in order for them to know the truth about what s happening in the world. The right thing to do is to keep the source anonymous if it means that an important story or high classified information will be out for the public to know it is their right to know. In this perspective, a journalist does not look at their personal consequences possible incarceration but on the nature of their action to liberate the truth. They have the good intention, which makes it deontological. If we take a look at the first form of the categorical imperatives, it follows this as well because of the way they act: keeping a promise they made. A journalist also has true freedom because they have the autonomy to put themselves in a position of being in a bad situation with the law, using their rationality to weigh the options of leaking a good story or the possibility of suffering consequences for ... • 20. A Experiment On Hydrogen Peroxide Hypothesis Hydrogen peroxide sometimes can be utilized to produce oxygen gas. One of the way to cause the decomposition reaction is to add some catalyst. Liver solution contains catalase which is from the liver cells. After the cells being broken down, the catalase is released and dissolves in water. As the catalyst, liver solution can cause the reaction of hydrogen peroxide and therefore release the oxygen that is produced in the reaction. If the volume of hydrogen peroxide increases while other controlled variables remain the same, then the volume of oxygen gas will also increase, because the more reactant there is, the more gas will be produced. An increase in volume also means an increase in mass, as well as the number of molecules in the reactant. While trading, Hawaii earned most of its earnings from trading (mainly because of the thirst for sandalwood). However, the sandalwood population began to plummet and, as a result, Kamehameha placed a kapu on sandalwood younglings (26). In Rome, many were unemployed or poor, so Caesar went to fix this problem. Some of the unemployed were offered jobs overseas while those who stayed behind relied on a monthly grain supply. ... • 32. Relevant Legal Case Study Relevant Legal Issues Consent and Guardianship In order for Megan to have valid consent, four elements must be considered. Firstly, it must be voluntary, meaning consent must be given freely without persuasion or threatening influence (Forrester Griffiths, 2010). Consent is only valid for the procedure that Megan has consented too. No other procedures may be carried out (Sheilds, 2010). Megan must be informed of the material and significant risks associated with the treatment for consent to be valid (Sheilds, 2010). Lastly the patient must have legal capacity, that is; having the ability to understand what they are giving consent for, and be of legal age (18) (Sheilds, 2010). Due to the fact that Megan is 17, she is legally classified as a young person Guardianship and Administration Act 1986 (Vic)(page 140 141), this means that her legal guardians (her parents) may provide consent on her behalf due to fact she is a minor, however exceptions to the rule enable Megan to provide consent in the circumstances that she is deemed competent (Sheilds, 2010). This can be achieved by a Gillick competency test in which will apply an assessment an individual young person s level of maturity and understanding in relation to the treatment proposed (New South Wales Law Reform Commission, 2004). The concept of a mid Tudor crisis arrived under the scrutiny of modern scholarship largely through a priori reasoning and was first broadly promulgated by W.R.D. Jones attested a series of problems that seem to have been ever present in mid Tudor England (Jones, 1973, p. 6), exhibiting a close relationship (Jones, 1973, p. 6) with one another as a crisis . This compounded succession of agricultural volatility, deficiencies in administrative decree, specifically the troubled shadowed reigns of Edward VI and Mary I, (Jones, 1973, p.19) and divisive religious reformation, as Jones was to surmise, directly resulted in fluctuations ... During the early 20th century, the U.S. government decided to join World War I. Hence, they held a draft, by choosing random male citizens who were in between the age of eighteen to forty five to fight for the country. At this time, Charles T. Schenck was the general secretary of the U.S. socialist party in Philadelphia in the early 20th century. He was against the U.S. entry into World War I and its implementation of a military draft. • 38. Overpopulation And Overconsumption Overpopulation has been correlated to some of the most overwhelming problems in the world today. Population growth has been increasing dramatically for if humans have existed, but as of more recently have been increasing more dramatically. Many theorists such as Thomas Malthus and the Cornucopians made attempts to try to better understand the trend of overpopulation. Both had very different views towards if populationgrowth was a negative or positive effect on consumption. The true question to both is whether overpopulation or overconsumption is a bigger factor that leads to the environmental problems that are present today. While it could be said, population is growing at an exponential rate, overconsumption is the true problem of what is leading to resource scarcity. Both problems can be assessed more accurately using real world market based and governance approaches. Many theories have been connected to how scarcity is related to either overpopulation or overconsumption. One of the main arguments for overpopulation and overconsumption was created by Thomas Malthus. Malthus stated that population grew exponentially and food sources were linearly growing by nature (Robins et al. 2014). By this accord, consumption would deteriorate the supply of food since the rates are so much more for population growth. While the argument seems sound mathematically, Malthus fails to incorporate the political or economic attributes contributing to consumption. Malthus also failed to ... Nala, the little lioness that is shown as a stronger female with a firm character who wins all fights against Simba, is the perfect example of why the lioness is essential to the survivor of the pride. Moreover, from the beginning of the film, the wife of Mufasa, Sarabi is forgotten. She is only mentioned a few times in order to demonstrate that their role is to serve, as Mufasa expressed when he said to her, At dawn, he is your son . Even when Simba is thought to be dead, his mother is not presented to show concern or sadness, which would be the natural reaction of a mother. In addition, Sarabi is a lioness but she does not shine. Her color, like that of all females of the herd, is dull yellow and her mission does not go beyond accompanying her husband and serving their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Epistolary Novels and Mimetic Devices CHAPTER FIVE: Epistolary Novels And Mimetic Devices We have seen how the use of mimetic devices contributed to Still Alice and Turn of Mind. In Chapter FIVE I explore the possibility of using Facebook, (a twenty first century mode of communication), as a mimetic device to augment conventional prose fiction. In this chapter I want to show how mimetic devices such as letters, bank statements and reports have already been used in epistolary fiction so that I can consider their use as models for my own work. I touch briefly on the history of the use of mimetic devices in the epistolary novel and go on to discuss how mimetic devices in So Much For That , House Mother Normal and Flowers for Algernon allow us to hear different voices and create texture. In SMFT chapters are headed with a bank statement showing how illness drains people s savings. In HMN, each character is preceded by a clinical report which includes their cognitive ability. FFA uses a diary or progris report to tell the story. I discuss how these mimetic devices contribute to the story. In the 18th century, letter writing took on great importance as a new mode of communication. (Studying the Novel 2001) In Pamela by Richardson, letters between Pamela and her family are used to tell the story of Pamela s resistance to seduction by her employer. The reader is puzzled by the sudden cessation of Pamela s family s replies to her letters, only to find that this is because Pamela s employer has insisted on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 54. Analysis Of East Of Eden By John Steinbeck Steinbeck s own family and their dreams was a great inspiration for his multi generational novel East of Eden. His maternal grandfather Samuel Hamilton emigrated from Ireland in the 19th century to buy land, build a ranch and raise his family in Salinas Valley. From an online article John Steinbeck s Derry Roots we find out that Samuel Hamilton was born at Ballykelly on 7 October 1830... Samuel emigrated at the age of 17, at the height of the Great Famine, to New York where he married a young Irish girl, Elizabeth Fagan in the summer of 1849. They came to California and set up a ranch in the foothills of the Salinas Valley. When Samuel came to California, all the fertile land was taken. As Steinbeck writes in the first chapter of East of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the book progressed, the focus switched from the Hamiltons to the Trasks. As the title of the book suggests, East of Eden was an allegory to a book of Genesis, namely the story of Cain and Abel. The siblings rivalry for a love of their father transcends through generations. Adam vs. Charles, Aron vs. Cal. Many of critics attacked Steinbeck for having showed all the symbols too obviously and therefore the novel is not convincing. As Warren French points out, The theological disputation is interesting as an exposition of Steinbeck s ideas, but these lack consistency and might be more appropriately discussed in an essay than a novel (156). Owens argues that East of Eden may be a much more subtle and complex construction than we are at first prepared to believe, one deserving of more careful scrutiny than we have yet brought to bear (74). The most memorable character is Aron and Cal s mother, the amoral Cathy/Kate. She represents everything evil. Kate is manipulative and is not afraid to kill anyone who stands in her way. It has been said that Steinbeck s second wife Gwyn was in a way an inspiration for Kate s character. Kate was a contrast to Samuel s character. Steinbeck s grandfather is here portrayed as a wise and kind family man, a dreamer, always willing to help. Samuel Hamilton becomes a force for good, a kind of savior, water witch, grail knight, and non teleological visionary all rolled into one (Owens 66). The East of Eden story circles around the Hebrew word: Timshel , loosely translated by a servant Lee as Thou mayest. It was Samuel, who had a meaningful conversation with Lee, when he realized what the word meant to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Bobbie Ann Mason Research Paper Southern writer Bobbie Ann Mason was born on May 1, 1940 in Mayfield, Kentucky to her parents Wilburn and Christina Mason along with her four other siblings. It was when she was still a child that her interest in writing emerged and she began writing stories influenced by children s mystery novels (Bobbie Ann Mason). These works would continue to influence her writing even in her later years. Bobbie Ann Mason is still alive today, and is approaching her older years of life, but she still publishes work, and travels around doing book reading and signings (Bobbie Ann Mason). Her entire life has been dedicated to writing, she attended school for it, pursued a teaching career in it, and dedicated herself full time as a writer (Bobbie Ann Mason).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her criticism of Mason and comparison of these three stylistically different writers, she is quoted on an important aspect of the meaning of their, and especially Mason s, stories, Why do we read novels and short stories? For pleasure; for instruction; for the solace of seeing others in familiar dilemmas; for the opportunity to see what is unfamiliar, perhaps strange; for hope. These writers, in different ways, satisfy these requirements. (Becker). Not only does she raise incredible praise for these writers, she also gives us an opportunity to see how Mason s writing fits into the other writers of her time. She shows us what the purpose of the short story is in Mason s world, for hope (Becker). Mason in particular inspires this hope because although she is introducing her readers to the characters of rural Kentucky, change is something that, on some level, every reader can relate to and understand (Becker). This idea of understanding can even be compared and seen throughout the criticisms of character presentation by Michiko Kakutani, who has an appreciation for the way she lays out her characters to her audience, and the commentary by Robert Newman on how she relates to her readers through her characters. The way these two appreciate Bobbie Ann Mason s character development is the same way that Robin Becker appreciates how she presents the story itself to her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
