Compare And Contrast The Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation and The Emancipation Manifesto were two documents written in the
mid nineteenth century with many similarities. The two were similar in ways, they were abolishing
something that their respective governments believed was wrong, they were different in the way that
they were written for different reasons and had their own purposes. The conditions in both America
and Russia were similar in ways but different in many as well, the two leaders at the time, Abraham
Lincoln and Alexander II chose to solve their problem in a process that also compared and differed
from one another. I believe that the Emancipation Proclamation was the best solution for the problems
that these countries faced in my opinion.

I believe that the Emancipation Proclamation was the better solution. The Emancipation Proclamation
did so much more than just abolish slavery. It gave the Union a clear cut war objective and that was
for the freedom of the African American slaves. Many African Americans soon joined the fight
because they knew that they were fighting for their own freedom. Lincoln knew as well if he issued
the Emancipation Proclamation it would create chaos in the south when word was received by the
slaves that they were supposed to be free. By issuing the Emancipation Proclamation Lincoln also
made it very difficult for any foreign nations to join in on the side of the Confederacy. The British of
the French could never join in on the war because they themselves had abolished slavery years ago
and the view of them in the world would decrease immensely if they were to join a war to support
slavery. All these reasons are why I believe that the Emancipation Proclamation was the better
solution out of the two

The Charter School Lottery Winners And Lottery Losers
Abstract The reading will focus on the overall educational program success of 36 charter middle
schools across 15 states. There will be at least three international standards incorporated with the
reading to shed light on the effectiveness and non effectiveness of the charters school education
programs. The charter school lottery winners and lottery losers will be statically measured. The
standards that will be focused on are International Standard Organization (ISO) 9001:2008, Six
Sigma, and LEAN (LEAN Enterprise Institute). The reading will compare the purpose, values,
application, relative functionality, and implication of each Total Quality Management (TQM) model.
Keywords: programs, six, sigma, lean, model, charter, schools, standards
Total Quality Management According to Total Quality Management (TQM) (2013, pg 1), Total quality
management (TQM) can help a school monitor and evaluate its effectiveness. There are various TQM
models, but they all have a common focus on customer satisfaction and continuous service
improvement toward excellence. For schools, the customer is the student. When a Total Quality
Management (TQM) is implemented in an institution it can set it apart from the other institutions. It
formulates task teams to manage the institution compared to having a chain of command. An effective
Total Quality Management (TQM) institution Mission Statement is the foundation of the education
process. This encourages the staff

Arrest Emmeline Pankhurst
7333 It was the fifth time I was called to arrest Emmeline Pankhurst under the Cat and Mouse Act. As
a police officer, I thought it was my duty to keep the streets of Plymouth clean, and I would be
assigned the same comfortable position over and over again. But my chief from Scotland Yard found
out my motives and sent me out to do some other dirty work, such as arresting women under the Cat
and Mouse Act. The government had decided to arrest Emmeline after she traveled from Ellis Island
to England. Of course, I was expecting to be sent to recapture her, but 7 other men were also told to
follow me. 4 from Scotland Yard, two from Plymouth, and a prison guard from Holloway. Like all of
the other times, Ms. Pankhurst refused to go back to prison, but we picked her up ... Show more

My job was assigned, and it seemed like my chief could already foresee the events that were going to
happen. It seemed as if I was assigned to every single one of Emmeline Pankhurst s arrests. Every
time I arrested her and brought her to prison, I started to grow soft towards the women s suffrage
movement. I started to build empathy for them and started to abandon my duties, especially after force
feeding women for over 3 months. A couple of years after my fifth arrest of Ms. Pankhurst, I traveled
to the United States by boat to witness the woman s suffrage amendment being passed in the House of
Representatives. After being forced to witness so many horrific events in England, it felt only right to
show my support of the Nineteenth Amendment. I would later go back to England to report what had
happened. In 1923, I married one of the Suffragettes working with Emmeline, and I asked her to tell
me all about their efforts to give women voting rights. Because of what she told me, I was able to
increase my efforts to grant women voting equality with men in

Body. Alcohol Is Surprisingly The Largest Consumed Drug
Body Alcohol is surprisingly the largest consumed drug when it comes to the United States, and with
that comes a higher addiction rate than those drugs deemed illegal such as heroin or even marijuana
still (Thio, Taylor, Schwartz, 2013). Due to this epidemic that is rarely discussed in the same
categorization of illegal substances, there is a bit of a justification seen that alcohol use is not as
severe. Yet data shows that is not the case, because alcohol abuse leads in terms of arrests and related
deaths (Schmalleger, 2013). In 2008, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimated
that alcohol caused 11,773 traffic fatalities in one year alone (Schmalleger, 2013). Alcohol also leads

The National Survey on Drug Use and Health or (NSDUH), is an annual publication funded by the
Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration or (SAMHSA) provides further
data (Schmalleger, 2013). The (NSDUH) found that there are an estimated 22.6 million Americans
who are current users aged twelve and older (Schmalleger, 2013). Of those 22.6 million Americans,
17.5 million of them were estimated to be using marijuana, and data shows the rates for those most
likely to consume drugs to be between the ages of sixteen to twenty five in 2010 (Schmalleger, 2013).
Another statistic, this time from the class text found that nine percent of the U.S population age 12 or
older use illicit drugs every year, half of them at least once a month. (Thio et al., 2013). The class text
also corroborates this data, citing that of young adults those aged eighteen to twenty five have the
highest rates, for teenagers the rates highest for use are twelve to seventeen (Thio et al., 2013). One
study found that employment status is highly correlated with rates of illicit drug use as well. One
figure showed that an estimated seventeen percent and a half percent of those unemployed were
current illicit drug users (Schmalleger, 2013). Worrying figures due to the gravity of the situation
making itself clear, while there is tapering off after twenty years of age when it comes to illicit drug
use. The concept of drug usage surrounding teenagers and

Beatrice Blaine Essay
F. Scott Fitzgerald s characterization of Beatrice Blaine provides insight on how living in a post World
War I time affects women. In the beginning of the novel, the narrator sheds light on the mental illness
of Beatrice Blaine, talking about the breakdowns she had, eventually sending her to the hospital in
which the doctors told [her] that if any man alive had done the consistent drinking that [she has], he
would have been physically shattered, my dear, and in his grave (Fitzgerald 21). Beatrice s heavy
drinking bears the question as to what exactly is causing her to do engage in this act. A possible
explanation of this is seen on page seven in which she states that [She is] feeling very old to day...
[Her] nerves are on edge on edge. [Her and Amory] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This, in turn, causes her to try and find the sunshine a symbol for a new kind of world that includes
happiness, tranquility, freedom, and hope; everything that the world she lives in today, does not have.
By not being able to obtain this sunshine she is despondent and dreary about her life, which inevitably
drives her to drink alcohol in excess. When Beatrice is reunited with her son Amory, who has returned
from school, she explains that in her dreams, she had wonderful visions... [She] saw bronze rivers
lapping marble shores, and great birds that soared through the air, parti colored birds with iridescent
plumage (Fitzgerald 21). In her description of her dreams, the reader is able to comprehend Beatrice s
ideal world, her utopia. It is obvious that she dreams of a world that is substantially better than the
corrupted and unstable world of the nineteen twenties. In one critical analysis essay by Barry Gross,
he states that Fitzgerald s novels are always about: the realization that life is essentially a cheat and its
conditions are those of defeat (Gross

Goal Cash Management
)
The of goal cash management is to minimize the amount of cash the business must hold to conduct its
normal activities while having sufficient cash on hand to support operations (Gapenski, L. C., Reiter,
K. L., 2016, p 601). Short term investments may offer minimal returns but cash offers zero. The point
is to get the most return on funds and have only the minimum cash on hand.
Float is the difference between the balance sheet on a business s checkbook and the balance shown on
the bank s books (p 602). This difference is due to the delay in processing of the checks written or the
checks received. Receipt accelerations are processes to increase the speed of processing check
payments. Two examples are lockboxes and automated clearing houses (p 603). Lockboxes are
regional post office boxes where payments are sent and geographically processed to decrease delays in
transit. Lockboxes can increase the availability of funds by 1 3 days. Automated clearing house is a
communication network that send data from one bank to another. This allows immediate electronic
transfer of funds instead of paper checks (p 604).
Distribution control is controlling the outflow of cash. This control is limited by ethical issues in the
delay of payments and the potential loss of timely payment discounts. One method to control
distribution is a zero balance account. A zero balance account is a bank account have a zero balance.
Funds are transferred from a master account as needed to cover checks

We Must Make Virtual Child Pornography Illegal Essay
The Supreme Court lifted a 1996 act banning virtual child pornography. The six to three ruling, led by
Justice Anthony Kennedy, says the law violates First Amendment freedom of speech rights guaranteed
to every citizen of the United States of America. Although many free speech advocates are shouting
victory, many citizens across the country are lamenting over the loss in the fight against child
pornography.
Child pornography has been present in society for centuries, but has only recently become more
accessible through the development of the printing press and subsequently, the technology of the
Internet. Until the mid 1990s, illegal child pornography [had only] involved depictions of actual
children engaged in sexually explicit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Quick to validate the new law, Congress proclaimed that child pornography is often used as part of a
method of seducing other children into sexual activity (Slade). Congress further went on to say that
with recent technology, having the ability to alter and enhance sexually exploitive images might
render enforcement against pornography using real children impossible because determining real
pictures from enhanced picture had the probability of being a very daunting and challenging task. This
strengthened the government s argument that the law had a significant potential to protect many
children from molestation and abuse.
Child pornography laws instated during the 1970s were some of the first in the crusade to protect
children from sexual predators. This was because most of national news magazines were printing
detailed articles concerning child sexual abuse at the time. In just a few weeks, a national campaign
against the making and sale of child pornography exploded (Finkelhor 1) and politicians took note. In
1977, the government enacted the Sexual Exploitation of Children Act which prohibited sexually
explicit photography of minors, the use of minors in production of pornography, and any material
promoting child pornography. Due to misunderstandings of what minor really meant, the Child
Protection Act of 1984 was ratified. It was then concluded that

Bison In The 19th Century
In spite of the Native Americans, Bison were hunted near extinction in the 19th century. Stats show
that bison population decreases in the late 1880s. They were hunted for fur, with the rest of the animal
left behind to decay in the ground. After they rotted their bones were found packaged and shipped
East. Main purpose the U.S. military hunted buffalo was to deprive Native Americans of food because
that was what they lived off of, also to clear the great plains and make space for railroads. In 2005
hunting buffalo became illegal, U.S. Senate offered each states American tribes two hunters license
each however if citizens are caught hunting Bison a reduced fee will be paid. Female buffalo are

How Does Salt Affect The Height Of Ice Cream
Title: What is the effect of salt content on the height of ice cream?
Purpose
The purpose of the experiment was to see if more salt content resulted in higher ice cream formations.
Background Information
To make ice cream you need milk, half and half, sugar and vanilla. All of these products make ice
cream, but they must be cooled down. That is where salt comes in. Just like when salt is spread on
roads in cold weather to prevent freezing roads, salt in ice cream allows the freezing point to decrease.
Since ice cream isn t just water, salt is needed to make the ice creams temperature below 32 degrees
Fahrenheit. The salt makes the mixture of ice cream colder than with just ice. By mixing the ice and
salt, the freezing point gets lowered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the amount of salt (Tbsp.) increased, so did the height of Ice cream. When two Tbsp. of salt were
used, the data resulted in 4.8 cm, 3.1 cm, and 3.4 cm. When the control (6 Tbsp.) were used, the height
resulted in 7.5 cm, 8.4 cm, and 5.9 cm. Ten Tbsp. resulted in 5.2 cm, 11.4 cm, and 9.8 cm. As one can
see, increasing the amount of salt, showed an increase in the height of Ice cream.
Conclusion
The purpose of the experiment was to see if more salt content resulted in higher ice cream formations.
The question the lab asked was What variable needs to be changed to produce greater ice cream
height? The hypothesis was If the salt content increases, then the ice cream formation will yield taller
formations.
The hypothesis was supported. As the salt content went from 2 Tbsp., 6 Tbsp., and 10 Tbsp. The
average went up from 3.6 cm per 2 Tbsp. to 7.2 cm per 6 Tbsp. to 8.8 cm per 10 Tbsp. The principle
guiding the outcome, was the salt, lowering the freezing point.

Gravitational Potential Energy Lab Report
Purpose:
To find out the relationship between gravitational potential energy, kinetic energy, and total
mechanical energy of a cart as it rolls down a ramp
Hypothesis:
If the cart rolls down the ramp with constant speed, then the kinetic energy will get bigger, the
gravitational potential energy will decrease, and the total mechanical energy will stay at the same
constant value, because due to the law of Conservation of Energy, these are the estimated results.
Materials/Apparatus: ramp (1) textbooks (3/4) meter stick (1) motion sensor (1) cart (1)
GLX system
Procedures:
The ramp was raised at a 8.4 degree angle using 3 textbooks
The length and the height of the ramp was measured using a meter stick
The motion sensor was placed on the top of the ramp. The cart was placed near the notion sensor and
released
As the cart rolled down the ramp, the position time graph of the cart was recored
One point near the end of the graph was chosen and was represented by its d2 and the reference point,
which was used to determine the height of the cart. (this point was kept throughout the whole
experiment)
The equation h = d (h/L) was used to calculate the height of the cart on the ramp
The slope tool was used to determine the speed at any point
The position and the speed was determined using the point near the start if the graph
These values were used to complete the first row
The other positions from the graph were used to complete the next three rows

Working With Prisoners In Prison Life And Human Worth

The Importance Of Democracy In Colonial America
Language, like all else, changes over time. Nice used to mean foolish, and awful used to mean full of
awe. This too gives context to why when democracy, or rule by the people, is mentioned today, the
word does not have the same connotation as it did to the inhabitants of colonial North America.
Similarly, the democracy of the 1800s, colloquially known as the early republic period, was different
from democracy during the time of the revolution. The tradition in colonial Virginia, for instance, was
that democratic voting power only applied to the aristocratic members of the clergy. In New England,
only the property holding elect had a say in town decisions. This tradition of not quite equality in
democracy held through to revolutionary times. As Stanley N. Katz puts it, Indeed, during most of
American history, framers of constitutions, lawmakers, and judges avoided committing the nation to
the protection of individual equality. Because of the strength of majorities, laissez faire economic
policy, and an increase in opportunity, democracy replaced tradition as the provider of political power
during the early republic in the northern United States.
White males gained universal suffrage because of their numbers, breaking the aristocratic property
based tradition. In the earliest days of the United States, most state constitutions adopted the same
voting eligibility as were established in the colonies and in Britain: ownership of property. The
justification for this,

Influential Theorists
It is important for teachers to know about learning theories and influential theorists as it adds to the
quality of their teaching and contributes to their ability to cater to the individual needs of the children
within their classroom. According to Woolfolk Margetts (2013) the quality of teaching can make a
difference to children s lives therefore it is imperative that teachers develop their pedagogical
knowledge of learning theories and influential theorists so they can become an effective teacher. Each
child is influence by socio cultural factors and will have their own way of learning. A teacher with an
understanding of learning theories and influential theorists is likely to guide their teaching methods to

The Dark Ages Of The Middle Ages
The Renaissance was the period in European history that referred how people were finally learning
about the Classical antiquity. It also marked the translation from the Middle Ages to the Modern
world. The length of the period lasted from 14th century to the 17th century, but it forever changed the
Western World.
People during the Renaissance viewed the other periods throughout history differently.
Everyone was worshipping the Classical antiquity since the people were free to think and question
while the Middle Ages caused people to go into silence for fears of punishment. They were most
disgusted with the Middle Ages because of how much it wasn t the Classical antiquity. The Dark Ages,
a nickname for the Middle Ages made by the Renaissance, were often described the backwards
civilization that had formed after the Western Roman Empire collapsed. However, Classical antiquity
appealed every Renaissance man and woman because their artworks and ruins were found all over
Europe and it caused people to be curious about it. Once they learn of the Romans and the Greeks, it
led to people coming up with their own ideas while challenging the Catholic Church s ideas. Once the
Renaissance began and spread across Europe, major discoveries would forever change world history.
There were several discoveries going on during the Renaissance that forever changed the world. One
of those most important discoveries was the exploration of the New World. Christopher Columbus, the
famous explorer,

Maimonides The Guide For The Perplexed

commentaries like this. He concluded the commentary with this I, Moses, the son of Maymon,

The Guide for the Perplexed is a series of three books that argues for the compatibility of Aristotelian
philosophy and Judaism. The first book deals with the nature of God, concluding that God cannot be
described in positive terms. The second book examines natural philosophy, particularly Aristotle s
system of concentric spheres, and theories of the creation and duration of the universe, and the theory
of angels and prophecy. In the last Book, he clarifies the mystical Merkabah section of Ezekiel
(Friedlander, Sacred Texts). Following this he covers the 613 laws of the Pentateuch, organized into
14 branches, attempting to present rational explanations for each law. He wrote the Guide to promote
the true understanding of the real spirit of the Law, to guide those religious persons who, adhering to
the Torah, have studied philosophy and are embarrassed by the contradictions between the teachings
of philosophy and the literal sense of the Torah (Jacobs, Jewish Encyclopedia). This Guide was
recognized as Maimonides most significant and life changing books, which had many impacts on
Judaism. It showed that faith and reason were compatible and encouraged Jews to base their faith on
reason. It enabled Judaism to withstand the threat from philosophy by showing that it could be open to
intellectual debate and scrutiny. It provided leadership to communities of the Jewish Diaspora at a
time when they were being threatened by both Islam and the re emergence of Greek

Analysis Of Budgets Lie At The Core Of Every Business...
Introduction Budgets lie at the core of every business practice. The tools are the major evaluators of
managerial effectiveness and overall organizational performance. Businesses can achieve effective
control and planning through the application of the right budgeting approaches in financial and
accounting activities. Nonetheless, these benefits can only be realized if the managers of a company
use the most effective models that take into account all relevant factors, which influence a firm s
budget. An inefficient method automatically leads to attainment of poor results. In this light,
practitioners in the financial and accounting sectors evaluate different budgeting techniques in terms
of efficiency, flexibility, accurate results, and ease of use. One of the approaches that attract immense
criticism in respect to these considerations is the traditional budgeting approach. It is, therefore,
essential to look into the reasons as to why the model has been criticized as a rigid method that should
be eliminated (Zeller Metzger 2013). Weaknesses of Traditional Budgeting Traditional budgeting
model is not a new concept in business practice. Its application goes beyond the contemporary
practices that have seen the development of new techniques. The model dates back to the onset of
1920s when the managers of the industrial revolution realized the need to control costs and the cash
flows of a firm. Horvath and Sauter (2004) define the model as a quantitative expression of a

The first code states, the voluntary consent of the human subject is absolutely essential . It is a given
right that a person does not have to do something that do not want to do. Participating in an
experiment is a decision that the person must agree to be a part of. This is a basic human right. The
second code states, the experiment should be such as to yield fruitful results for the good of society,
unprocurable by other methods or means of study, and not random and unnecessary in nature . The
experiment must be beneficial to the study of medicine and will only benefit the the person taking part
in the experiment. The third code states that the experiment must be based off of previous knowledge
that was likely performed on animals before. This code is important in order to prove that it is sade to

Island bay and Owhiro bay, Wellington to collect data on the species of the rocky shore. This area
showed a clear pattern of the low tide, mid tide, high tide and splash zone. The area had a variety of
rocky shore species which were distributed in a zonation pattern. The two species I have chosen to
investigate are the Cellana radians and the Cellana denticulata. Cellana radians commonly known as
the Golden/radiate limpet has an outer shell that is smooth and very flat and usually has a darker
colour with dark coloured lines. The Cellana radians is found in the lower intertidal zone and the mid
intertidal zone and none in the high tide zone at sirens rocks. The Cellana radians are herbivores and
feed on microalgae. The Cellana denticulata commonly known as the denticulate limpet has an outer
cap shaped shell that tends to have brown lines, this protects their muscular foot, and the Cellana
denticulata is an herbivore feeding on microalgae. It is found in the upper lower intertidal zone, mid
tide zone and very few in the high tide zone at sirens rock. The Cellana denticulata and the Cellana
radians showed that at sirens rocks the community pattern of distribution was zonation. I will also be
investigating the adaptations, tolerance levels for abiotic factors for each species and the biotic factors

The Case Of Sino Forest And Ernst And Young
The Effects of Fraud:
The Case of Sino Forest and Ernst Young
In today s global economy, investors must rely on information provided by the various companies
listed on the stock exchanges in order to determine if a company is a good investment, or a poor one.
In order to make informed decisions, investors want to see financial statements that have been proven
to be correct; they do not want to risk losing the amounts they have invested if they were to choose to
invest in a company that was not being truthful about their financial standings. To reduce this risk,
publicly traded companies must have and audit of their annual financial statements. These audits are
meant to reduce the risk of misleading numbers skewing how the company is ... Show more content

listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange).
Though the situation of fraud appears to be black and white, what is there to be said about the auditors
who do not detect the fraud committed by their clients? Where they incompetent in their audit of the
financial statements, or were they somehow involved in the fraudulent activities? A case that
demonstrates the consequences to auditors when fraud is found to have been perpetrated by a client is
that of Ernst Young and the lumber company, Sino Forest. Sino Forest is a Canadian Chinese timber
company that was listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange; before the fraud allegations, it was the most
valuable forestry company on the TSX. (The Canadian Press, CBC, 2012) However, it was accused of
fraudulently overstating its timber assets, supposedly located in China. Through its investigation, the
Ontario Securities Commission found that
Sino held undisclosed control over the network of third parties through which it conducted purchase
and sale transactions. In turn, these deals were backed by fraudulent contracts that were not drafted
until the quarter after they allegedly took place and revenue from them was recognized. (Koven, 2012)
In other words, Sino Forest did not inform the auditors, or the public, that they had control over their
third party suppliers and customers.

Nurture Nature Vs Nature
The debate between nature and nurture addresses genetic and environmental determinants and which
principles apply to our lives. Humans are affected by choices made by others and ourselves and things
that are meant to happen. Free will is being able to make a choice to do something on our own or to
act in certain situations independently of natural, social, or divine restraints (Encyclopedia Britannica).
Social cues are verbal or nonverbal hints that are meant to guide peers about their actions, the
conversation they re having, etc.. Determinism is the belief that everything is naturally connected to
the universe and every event happens because of the events that came before it. Fatalism follows the
belief that events occur naturally, but without influence of humans. Nurture is a greater influences on
our lives than nature; humans operate upon the principles of free will, social cues, and determinism.
Determinism supports the idea that our outcomes are based on our choices and that they are meant to
happen that way. An example of one s deterministic view is Brent Staples describing the ways he
unintentionally frightened those around him in public and he would go out of his way to make them
feel safer. It s unfair that an accomplished college graduate should be judged for their appearance, as
well as anyone else for that matter. Staples had no obligation to act the way he did, but in order to
keep himself safe, he could not pose a threat and get away with it as a black

Summary Of 13 Most Wanted Men By Alhol Warhol
Instead of taking the rejection with a grain of salt and moving on, Warhol interpreted it as a challenge
to convince others to view him as a serious artist. He realized no one would take him seriously if he
continued to pursue his interests such as displayed in Boys Kissing Boys. Instead of moving away
from his homosexual subject matter altogether, Warhol found other less direct ways of including it in
his work. 13 Most Wanted Men was commissioned to be displayed at the 1964 1965 New York World
s fair, but it was painted over within days of its debut in what some have described as quite literally
white washing the work. Warhol printed large images of criminals side by side who were suspected of
being part of the Mafia; the images he gathered were from a booklet that was released by the NYPD s
Commissioner a few months prior to the fair s opening day. The piece was 20 x20 and done entirely in
black and white. Gerard Malanga, Warhol s studio assistant, said [Andy] thought it would be funny
and shocking within the context of a family outing, in regards to Warhol s choice of subject matter.
The subject in this context is the wanted men. On the surface of the work, it features mugshots of
thirteen criminals, however, there is a double meaning placed within the title of the work. Warhol is
toying with the notion that law enforcement officials were not the only ones who want men. The entire
piece is built around a pun with homosexual undertones. The portraits are

Narrative Of A Bluebird Research Paper
Bluebird Short Narrative by Lucy
Monster: Truck
Hero: Bluebird (a symbol of faith)
The blue bird. The last thing I saw on earth, the bird which brought me home.
Introduction: It was just a standard Monday, little did I know my life would never be the same again. I
tied my shoes, applied some makeup, got dressed for the day, and drove my black Mazda to school. I
blasted my music on the radio to the point where I could feel the bass run through my body. I watched
the rain droplets streak across my windscreen. The trees outside howled in the wind, dark heavy
clouds filled the sky.
There were many roads closed due to flooding so I was forced to cross the towns bridge instead. The
music faded out as the radio spokesperson warned us that the roads would be extra dangerous today, at
the time I thought nothing of it pfft I would never get into any serious trouble.

The music turned back on, I tapped my foot in time with the beat as I crossed the narrow bridge. The
rain roared as it hit my car with force, I could hardly see anything as the water pounded at me. ...

There was nothing I could do, it was too late. The last minute of the collision was like a dance as the
two vehicles twisted and circled and then embraced each other as they slumped to the ground with
such power. The noise of the crash rang in my ears. Glass flew in every direction. I screamed over the
music. I was paralysed in terror as the heavy metal truck crushed onto the top of my car. All I could
taste in my mouth was the numbing sensation of warm, salty blood. Out of nowhere the dark red
substance was all over me, it oozed from every place of my body. I closed my eyes and wondered if I
was going to die. The last thing I could recall before I passed out was a blue bird swooping through
my car window, then blackness filled my head as it hit the steering

Moral Dilemma Case
It is the situation of moral dilemma and it covers the issue of the primacy of public interest, honesty,
competence and professionalism (which are a part of ACS code of ethics) Nirmal clearly sees that the

I believe Nirmal should ask the exact same question to himself. If he thinks by going against the will
of his friend is better for him, the organization he is working and the people around him than he
should stick to his decision. Nobody should be given the unfair advantage (this is the policy of free
market) and everyone should be treated equally. If I were in the similar circumstances, I would follow
the similar path as Nirmal did to solve this situation of conflict of interest by giving the preference to
the Company A in selection process as it is the deserving one. References: Anon (2014). ACS Code of

Cr Jerome Brulee Research Paper
Crème brulee is an custard from France that translates into burnt cream, but what is unusual about this
custard is it has a thin layer of burnt sugar not cream. Now some people have never even tried it, and
for those people who are in love with most of the time have it at a restaurant and want to be able to
make it at home. But they feel like since it is from France and has a fancy name it must be a very
complicated recipe, but just have to know how to do two important steps. The two critical steps when
composing crème brulee are separating egg yolks, and bruleeing the sugar.
Probably the most important step when making crème brulee is separating the egg yolks from the egg
whites. The yolk is the yellow center and the white is liquid around it. The first step in separating the
center from the white is to get a trash can so the whites can just fall right in for easy clean up. Then

The first thing to do is take the custard out of the fridge and take a teaspoon of sugar and sprinkle a
thin layer over the firmed up custard. Next grab a cooking torch and a can of butane gas, tilt the torch
upside down and insert the tip of the butane and push down it, and continue this for about thirty
seconds, which should be enough to fill the torch. Now for the fun part, pick up the ramekin and be
sure to hold it from the bottom that way there will be no burns of the fingers or hands. Then turn on
the cooking torch and start bruleeing the sugar, and to ensure that the caramel will not burn, rotate the
ramekin and slightly tilt them to get the edges of the custard, and the end result is a thin layer of
hardened caramel, then it is ready to enjoy. The importance of bruleeing the caramel is because this
step differentiates crème brulee from regular custard of flan. It also adds another texture to the dish
making it two dimensional instead of one

The mass production of clothing allowed many people to have many different styles of clothing that
fit in with specific time periods. They were up to date fashion items that could easily be replaced as

now available to everyone. The clothes created were specific to styles that were popular at the time
and if trends suddenly changed, it was not difficult to create new styles that would be available to the

Today s society is in many respects dominated by the media. Newspapers, books, television, radio and
the Internet not only play significant role in an average person s life but are also multi billion pound
industries that, through the public exposure they are subject to, carry great influence. One of the oldest
media formats still in use is the newspaper. This old printed format carries great political power and

portability.
Throughout the decades during which Newspapers have developed, two main styles of writing and

subjective newspapers containing more pictures and easy to read text (such as the Sun and the Mirror).
Typically, Many Tabloid only require a reading age of 9, thus allowing them to be readily understood
by the less well educated and intellectual members of the public. Clearly, the properties of these
formats can be seen as direct opposites. However they do share some similarities. An obvious
common property of all newspapers is that they are commercial, that is, that they will try to appeal to a
large a readership as possible, within their market niche readership and this is reflected in their range
of content and style. Some newspapers try to appeal to more people by mixing elements of tabloids
and broadsheets (such as the Daily Mail and the Daily Express), although the large tabloid and
broadsheet newspapers tend to follow the traditional stereotypical styles for their type. The other key
similarity between each type of newspaper is that they all exist to report the news and current affairs,
differing only in the way in which they present and portray news stories which is also dependent on
the preference of their readership. However, their priorities regarding what stories are newsworthy

The Causes Of Drunk Driving And Driving
Have you ever lost someone close to you because of a bad decision, or a bad decision someone else
made? Drunk driving and driving under the influence of drugs is the leading cause of death in the
United States. Everyday 28 people die in the U.S. because of a drunk or drug impaired driver.
Everybody makes bad choices, even you and me, but there is a difference between a bad choice and a
bad choice that can put others at risk of injury and death. For many people stress is the reason that
drives them to drink or do drugs. The alcohol or drug numbs them to the stress of school, work,
family, money and relationships. Yes, the drugs and alcohol may numb you from the pain but in
reality, it makes everything worse. You can become addicted, you mood changes and in the end, you
may end up hurting others around you. As well, other reasons that cause people to make these bad
decisions include, peer pressure which is a big issue for teens who feel the need to fit in or want to be
viewed as cool, family issues, curiosity, and simply because it is accessible.
Driving under the influence or DUI is the crime for driving while under the influence of drugs or
alcohol. To be charged with a DUI, you must have a blood alcohol concentration or BAC of 0.08% or
more for drivers 21 years of age or older. If you are under the age of 21, a BAC of 0.02% can be cited
for a DUI. States such as Arizona or North Carolina have a zero tolerance policy for underage drivers.

The Poetry Of Sylvia Plath
Sylvia Plath is often described as a feminist poet who wrote about the difficulties women faced before
women s right were a mainstream idea. From reading her poetry, it is quite obvious that Plath s
feminism is extremely important to her, but she also wrote about a lot of day to day experiences and
made them significant through her use of literary devices such as metaphors and symbols. Plath may
also be best known for her autobiographical poetry written in a confessional style that appeared during
the 1950s. She is considered a very important poet of the post World War II era. She became widely
known following her suicide in 1963 (Bawer). Through Sylvia Plath s poetry, readers are able to get a

Although once Plath had gotten older she moved to England, certainly her time in Winthrop affected
her life and poetry. Her father, Otto Plath, was a German professor of Biology, an entomologist, and

poems. Her mother, Aurelia Plath was pursuing a career in teaching when she met Sylvia s father. At
the age of eight, Sylvia Plath published her first poem, her father would die in Winthrop, that same
year. This would be the start of her lifelong career as a poet. Plath lived and wrote in the 1950s
through the 1960s in both America and England (Bawer). As a modern period poet and feminist,
growing up during WWII, some of Plath s work was directly related to the issues that were developing
in society at the time. After WWII, societies were often characterized by strict gender norms. Women
were expected to remain safely in their homes, with being a wife and a mother as their ultimate joy
and goal. Art and expression became away from women to escape the everyday pressures of society.
The poem The Applicant gives a glimpse of how Plath personally felt about women s rights and also
touched on male dominance in her marriage. Through the poem, Plath shows the struggles of young
women who are taught by society to pursue marriage and feel their worth only comes from their
physical beauty. The poem begins

The European Exploration Of America
The discovery of America opened up the door for many people to find a new home and also a new
identity. The European explorers of the late 15th and 16th centuries did not discover America; the
native people had already lived and flourished there for many years. The European exploration of
America is notable because it is the start of the mentality among Americans the fuels the need to travel
from home in order to find oneself. Since the beginning, the settlers in America have been people who
left home to find a new life where they could live successful lives. While this is a theme in all types of
literature, it is one that is especially prevalent in American literature because the settlers were an entire
people who left their home in search of something better. Some of those people left to find themselves
in their religion or to find new ways to make money, but all in all the discovery of America was also
the discovery of a new people. The sensation of discovery fueled the early explorers, the settlers, the
revolutionaries, the transcendentalists, and American people to this day. The beginning of this trend in
American literature was when the first Europeans found the Americas.
Christopher Columbus is regarded as the man who discovered America, when is reality he only
discovered the Caribbean. Author and Professor Gerald Vizenor believes the appropriate this to say is
that Columbus found the Americas because the land mass already had many people living on it and

Biomes and The Food Production
Introduction
It has been suggested that food production has changed some biomes in Australia, from natural
systems to systems completely dominated by humans.
In the following essay a number of points will be discussed to show my support of this statement. The
following paragraph will discuss the definition of a biome and examples of these in Australia will be
outlined.
Following this food production in Australia will be discussed and the effects this has had on the land.
In the next paragraph the impacts of this farming will be outlined and possible solutions discussed.
Finally, in the last paragraph my opinion on the above statement will be addressed.
What is it?
Biomes are large ecological spaces on the Earth s surface where fauna and flora have adapted to the
environment. As Australia is a huge area it has great number of different biomes. The main biomes
found here include wetlands and rivers, savanna, sea grass meadows, old growth forests and deserts.
Wetlands and rivers are found in low lying areas or alongside rivers, lakes and streams. They provide
a water and food source and are a habitat for many native and migratory birds.
Another biome is the Savanna. Savanna includes the grasslands. They can be flat with few trees or
shrubs or open woodland. This biome is used by farmers for animals to graze. The Aboriginal people
would hunt the animals found here for food.
Seagrass meadows are submerged flowering plants that form off long,

common law which would satisfy these actions as described. Court states that no such common law
exists mainly because an issue such as this has not been dealt with by the court, it does not inherently
mean there is no tort present. The court also looks at Restatement 2d § 46 which states One who by
extreme and outrageous conduct intentionally or recklessly causes severe emotional distress to another
is subject to liability for such emotional distress, and if bodily harm to the other results from it, for
such bodily harm. Restatements 2d would consider the repeated attempt at unnecessary debt recovery
the extreme and outrageous conduct. 6. Holding: As stated in the case: one who, without a privilege to
do so, by extreme and outrageous conduct intentionally causes severe emotional distress to another,
with bodily harm resulting from such distress, is subject to liability for such emotional distress and

Negatives And Negatives Of Photography
Today, in technology we can do anything we want with images, and it has been used as a tool for
evidence. Photographers can do many things for example, keeping records of people s lives, allowing
memories to last forever and intriguing people. I can t imagine living without photography because
photography is more than just a image. Without photography, we wouldn t have pictures of our
childhoods, siblings, and pasts. Since digital manipulation existed, it started to make people feel
deceived. In the real world, there are so many unrealistic body images that look perfect that we start to
question and doubt our appearances because, in our minds, we want what they have. It is wrong to
fool people with a manipulated image. Photo manipulation has a negative effect on our society and it
has to be put to a stop.
Photo manipulation started earlier than you think. As early as 1825 There was a man by the name of
Joseph Nicephore Niepce. Joseph have constructed a photographic print using a photo engraved
printing plate. He was able to use multiple ways of manipulation. The real photo manipulation did not
start until about the 20th century when actual digital photos were being taken regularly. In glamour
photography many photographers alter celebrity photos to improve figure, color of hair, teeth, eyes,
skin complexion, blemishes, makeup, and piercings. Many editors,in magazine companies, not only do

The Is An Integral Part National Security
Cybersecurity is an integral part national security. Cyber attacks are increasing in frequency and
success and can target virtually anything connected to a network. These threats can affect everyday
activities such as talking on a cell phone, driving a car, riding a train, shopping, or flying. They can
also affect the highest levels of our country s government, from a Secretary of State s email server to
the data base of millions of government and military employees. Nearly everything these days is
digital. That simple fact means that everything digital is vulnerable. From military technology to a
child monitor, the cybersecurity is paramount to national security, because if it can be used to destroy
or disrupt, an adversary will try to employ it in their favor.
Cybersecurity and US National Security Policy
The idea of cyber security actually originated following the Cold War, when technological innovations
were becoming more and more computerized and the threat of a digital Pearl Harbor or the use of
weapons of mass disruption were talking points of politicians and tech specialists (Hansen, L.,
Nissenbaum, H., 2009, p. 1155). Modern society and specifically the US, as one of the most
technologically advanced nations in the world, is built on a system dependent on electronics,
telecommunications, energy, and a financial system heavily dependent on the internet, servers, and
connectivity (de Laat, W., 2012, p. 453). There is almost no such thing as stand alone

Motherhood In The 1800 s
As the 1800 s progressed, women developed an increased awareness of their lack of rights in society.
Even though they were productive members the society, women were not allowed to vote or have an

of which [they] had no choice (The Declaration of Sentiments). Thus, women were not treated equally
to men and they had no control over this. Women also had the legal status of a minor, meaning they

Sarah and Angelina Grimke were two sisters who lived in the south, but joined the abolition
movement regardless (Kendall 35). The abolition movement was closely linked to the women s rights
movement because many saw the cult of domesticity as a form of slavery (Marshall). The Grimkes
attended and spoke at a series of lectures in 1837 and 1838. Their speeches were later published as
Letters on the Equality of the Sexes and the Condition of Woman (Kendall 37). In one letter to her
sister, Sarah is quoted to have said all I ask of our brethren is, that they will take their feet from off our
necks and permit us to stand upright on the ground which God designed us to occupy (Kendall 36). In
this, Grimke highlights the oppression felt by women in the time period and the importance of
allowing women to have a voice. Another activist, Elizabeth Cady Stanton also felt it was essential for
men to have no more rights or power than women. She coined the motto, men, their rights and nothing
more: women, their rights and nothing less, (Kendall 42) meaning that men should have nothing more
than women, but women are not above men either. Cady Stanton also created the Seneca Falls

Anterograde amnesia is a form of short term memory loss, where the individual is unable to form new
memories or acquire new knowledge. With anterograde amnesia, the individual is unable to encode
the information from short term to long term memory. Some of the symptoms associated with
Anterograde amnesia is the impairment of both semantic and episodic memory; in which the

Tell Tale Heart Literary Devices
Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees very gradually I made up my mind to
take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever. Edgar Allan Poe is the author of
Tell Tale Heart, a horror story with a lot of suspense and many different literary writing techniques
infiltrated into the story. In fact, Poe is a master of suspense and horror and the literary techniques he
uses in his writing intensify these two characteristics. Three techniques the Poe uses in Tell Tale Heart
are similes, punctuation and repetition, and point of view. One of the literary techniques that Poe uses
in Tell Tale Heart are similes. One of the reasons that Poe uses similes when he is writing Tell Tale
Heart was because similes were a good way to help get what he was thinking/his point across to the
reader. An example of him doing this in Tell Tale Heart was whenever Poe was talking about how
stealthy and carefully he would watch the man at night. Poe writes So I opened the lantern you cannot
imagine how stealthily, stealthily until at length, a single dim ray, like the thread of the spider, shot out
from the crevice and fell upon the vulture eye. This example from Tell Tale Heart also shows another
reason why Poe uses similes in his writing. This reason is because the similes that Poe uses helps his
readers see the image that he is trying to paint for them more clearly. Finally, Poe uses similes in his
writing because they can help keep his readers focused and because similes can also help grab a reader
s attention. An example of this from Tell Tale Heart is whenever Poe is talking about the beating sound
that he hears that keeps getting louder and louder. He writes, the sound increased...and what could I
do? It was a low, dull, quick sound, as a watch enveloped in cotton... Poe used similes like this one to
help keep his readers interested in what he had to say. In Tell Tale Heart, Poe uses punctuation and
repetition to intensify his writing. One reason why Poe likes to use this literary technique in his
writing so much is because it helps build suspense in the story. Since Poe likes to write horrifying and
suspenseful stories and he likes to keep people on the edge of their

Balancing Family Work Life
I. Introduction A. Thesis Statement Attending school as an adult, and maintaining a source of
employment can be a daunting task, as many adults who had to delay their college education must
know. One of the most challenging aspects of adult life consists of learning how to adjust accordingly
to the rigors of life at home as well as the workplace. Failure to do so can lead to a life of complete
disarray, stress, illness and exhaustion. II. Body Paragraph #1 Topic Sentence #1 Traditionally the
typical age group for freshmen in college was between 18 to 19 years of age. That reality has slowly
changed as more young adults are finding their way back in the classroom, while holding down a job.

We must look at the adverse effects that those long work hours have on the human body. Overworked
individuals can suffer from work related illnesses as a result of excessive stress. Work related stress
can result from extended hours due to mandatory overtime in some case. An employer s rigid work
hours which can prevent employees from tending to occasional issues at home can also be blamed for
stress on the job. Employees suffering the effects of stress in the workplace tend to have bouts of
absenteeism. A. Supporting evidence Absenteeism in the workplace is a major issue, with tangible and
intangible costs. Although the absentee loses wages in the process, the major loss is at the expense of
the employer. The ebrary book by Lynn Tylczak, (Attacking absenteeism 1990), describes the
intangible costs of absenteeism as follows: Absentee costs are difficult to quantify. Experts estimate
direct wage loses of more than $30 billion per year, and that s just the beginning. Employers also need
to consider the costs of supplementary or replacement workers. These costs include: Regular wages,
overtime wages, and company benefits Supplementary benefits, such as Social Security, worker s
compensation, and unemployment compensation Administration of recruitment, selection orientation,
and training Penalty costs resulting from delays. The author (Lynn T. 1990) also gives the following
explanation from the tangible cost of absenteeism: It forces

Cuvette Synthesis
Determining the concentration of an unknown dye and preparing an absorption spectrum for a known
substance.
Introduction
During this experiment the main equipment used was a spectrophotometer and a micropipette to
achieve relevant results. Selecting a specific wavelength of visible light (390 770nm) on the
spectrophotometer, the photons pass through the cuvette and are picked up by a photodetector which
calculates the absorbance of the substance which was transferred from the source to the cuvettes using
a micropipette. This is done using Beer Lambert law A=lc (A=absorbance absorption coefficient
l=path length c=concentration), from this I was able to draw a calibration curve and an absorption
spectrum which allowed me to achieve my aim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The micropipettes possibly did not release the exact volume of solution into the cuvette that was
required this can influence the final results greatly as a higher/lower volume would mean a
higher/lower level of absorption. This limitation can be removed next time by using more
sophisticated pipettes. Moreover, another limitation was that the cuvettes were not cleaned properly
and possibly had finger prints on the surface. When inserting such a cuvette into the
spectrophotometer the light photons would get absorbed by the finger prints and not the solution
giving a lower final absorption for that specific concentration. In the future to remove this limitation
the surface of the cuvettes should be cleaned properly and to make sure to not hold the cuvette by the
cleaned surface when transferring it to the spectrophotometer.
In conclusion this investigation highly increased my knowledge on the use of spectrophotometer and
other lab techniques and as a first timer the final result of 39% which was 6% off the expected value
was not bad. I believe that for next time if all the limitations I stated are taken care off, then the value
of 45% is easily

Traditional Family Research Paper
I was raised to believe that family is the most important aspect of life, and that family should stand up
for one another. I took this a step father and said that friends are part of the family to. I was raised by a
veteran and a mother who s side has family problems. Both of them raised me to stand up for my
sisters as if no one ever would.
The only story that I believe is close to this is one about my friend not about a member of my
traditional family. It starts one day at school, one of my friends was be bullied by some kids bigger
than him. I decided that if no one stood up than what makes us any better, so I walked over and told
them to knock it off. It didn t go to plan though they picked on both of us. Until some more of my
friends decided that this isn t right and stood up to join our side. After, that the bullies, seeing them out
numbered, walked away saying they won t be around every time. Right there I decided that friends
sometimes should be considered family, because we all need to stand up for each other. ... Show more

her and protect her. Few of my friends catch on that I consider them family, only a hand full show the

Child Sexual Abuse In Canada
In 2008 the findings of the Public Health Agency of Canada estimated 235,315 investigations of child
abuse. This investigation stated that the primary categories of maltreatment includes physical abuse,
sexual abuse, neglect, emotional maltreatment, and exposure to intimate partner violence (Public
Health Agency of Canada, 2010). However, sexual maltreatment of children wasn t truly defined until
1974 when Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act provided us with a legal definition of sexual
abuse (Feerick et al., 2006):
The employment, use, persuasion, inducement, enticement, or coercion of any child to engage in, or
assist any other person to engage in, any sexually explicit conduct or simulation of such conduct for

CIS 2008 states that Sexual abuse contained nine forms: penetration, attempted penetration, oral sex,
fondling, sex talk or images, voyeurism, exhibitionism, exploitation, and other sexual abuse (Public
Health Agency of Canada, 2010). However, different places state similar or other forms of sexual
abuse, such as is shown to us by McCoy and Keen when it comes to Florida s statute.
In Florida many different forms are included beginning with penetration, whether it be full or slight,
either done vaginally or anal, and there may or may not be emission of semen. Next, Intrusion into
genitals or anal opening by any object that isn t the perpetrator s genitals or intimate parts is also
included as well as the intentional masturbating of the perpetrator. Finally, the intentional exposure of
the perpetrator s genitals and sexual exploitation of the child are included in the statute (McCoy and
Keen, 2014). Exploitation of children is often addressed alongside maltreatment and is described as a
child being involved in, allowed to, encourage to, or being forced

  • 2. Compare And Contrast The Emancipation Proclamation The Emancipation Proclamation and The Emancipation Manifesto were two documents written in the mid nineteenth century with many similarities. The two were similar in ways, they were abolishing something that their respective governments believed was wrong, they were different in the way that they were written for different reasons and had their own purposes. The conditions in both America and Russia were similar in ways but different in many as well, the two leaders at the time, Abraham Lincoln and Alexander II chose to solve their problem in a process that also compared and differed from one another. I believe that the Emancipation Proclamation was the best solution for the problems that these countries faced in my opinion. The problems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that the Emancipation Proclamation was the better solution. The Emancipation Proclamation did so much more than just abolish slavery. It gave the Union a clear cut war objective and that was for the freedom of the African American slaves. Many African Americans soon joined the fight because they knew that they were fighting for their own freedom. Lincoln knew as well if he issued the Emancipation Proclamation it would create chaos in the south when word was received by the slaves that they were supposed to be free. By issuing the Emancipation Proclamation Lincoln also made it very difficult for any foreign nations to join in on the side of the Confederacy. The British of the French could never join in on the war because they themselves had abolished slavery years ago and the view of them in the world would decrease immensely if they were to join a war to support slavery. All these reasons are why I believe that the Emancipation Proclamation was the better solution out of the two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Charter School Lottery Winners And Lottery Losers Abstract The reading will focus on the overall educational program success of 36 charter middle schools across 15 states. There will be at least three international standards incorporated with the reading to shed light on the effectiveness and non effectiveness of the charters school education programs. The charter school lottery winners and lottery losers will be statically measured. The standards that will be focused on are International Standard Organization (ISO) 9001:2008, Six Sigma, and LEAN (LEAN Enterprise Institute). The reading will compare the purpose, values, application, relative functionality, and implication of each Total Quality Management (TQM) model. Keywords: programs, six, sigma, lean, model, charter, schools, standards Total Quality Management According to Total Quality Management (TQM) (2013, pg 1), Total quality management (TQM) can help a school monitor and evaluate its effectiveness. There are various TQM models, but they all have a common focus on customer satisfaction and continuous service improvement toward excellence. For schools, the customer is the student. When a Total Quality Management (TQM) is implemented in an institution it can set it apart from the other institutions. It formulates task teams to manage the institution compared to having a chain of command. An effective Total Quality Management (TQM) institution Mission Statement is the foundation of the education process. This encourages the staff ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Arrest Emmeline Pankhurst 7333 It was the fifth time I was called to arrest Emmeline Pankhurst under the Cat and Mouse Act. As a police officer, I thought it was my duty to keep the streets of Plymouth clean, and I would be assigned the same comfortable position over and over again. But my chief from Scotland Yard found out my motives and sent me out to do some other dirty work, such as arresting women under the Cat and Mouse Act. The government had decided to arrest Emmeline after she traveled from Ellis Island to England. Of course, I was expecting to be sent to recapture her, but 7 other men were also told to follow me. 4 from Scotland Yard, two from Plymouth, and a prison guard from Holloway. Like all of the other times, Ms. Pankhurst refused to go back to prison, but we picked her up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My job was assigned, and it seemed like my chief could already foresee the events that were going to happen. It seemed as if I was assigned to every single one of Emmeline Pankhurst s arrests. Every time I arrested her and brought her to prison, I started to grow soft towards the women s suffrage movement. I started to build empathy for them and started to abandon my duties, especially after force feeding women for over 3 months. A couple of years after my fifth arrest of Ms. Pankhurst, I traveled to the United States by boat to witness the woman s suffrage amendment being passed in the House of Representatives. After being forced to witness so many horrific events in England, it felt only right to show my support of the Nineteenth Amendment. I would later go back to England to report what had happened. In 1923, I married one of the Suffragettes working with Emmeline, and I asked her to tell me all about their efforts to give women voting rights. Because of what she told me, I was able to increase my efforts to grant women voting equality with men in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alcohol Is Surprisingly The Largest Consumed Drug Body Alcohol is surprisingly the largest consumed drug when it comes to the United States, and with that comes a higher addiction rate than those drugs deemed illegal such as heroin or even marijuana still (Thio, Taylor, Schwartz, 2013). Due to this epidemic that is rarely discussed in the same categorization of illegal substances, there is a bit of a justification seen that alcohol use is not as severe. Yet data shows that is not the case, because alcohol abuse leads in terms of arrests and related deaths (Schmalleger, 2013). In 2008, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimated that alcohol caused 11,773 traffic fatalities in one year alone (Schmalleger, 2013). Alcohol also leads to 1.4 million ... The National Survey on Drug Use and Health or (NSDUH), is an annual publication funded by the Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration or (SAMHSA) provides further data (Schmalleger, 2013). The (NSDUH) found that there are an estimated 22.6 million Americans who are current users aged twelve and older (Schmalleger, 2013). Of those 22.6 million Americans, 17.5 million of them were estimated to be using marijuana, and data shows the rates for those most likely to consume drugs to be between the ages of sixteen to twenty five in 2010 (Schmalleger, 2013). Another statistic, this time from the class text found that nine percent of the U.S population age 12 or older use illicit drugs every year, half of them at least once a month. (Thio et al., 2013). The class text also corroborates this data, citing that of young adults those aged eighteen to twenty five have the highest rates, for teenagers the rates highest for use are twelve to seventeen (Thio et al., 2013). One study found that employment status is highly correlated with rates of illicit drug use as well. One figure showed that an estimated seventeen percent and a half percent of those unemployed were current illicit drug users (Schmalleger, 2013). Worrying figures due to the gravity of the situation making itself clear, while there is tapering off after twenty years of age when it comes to illicit drug use. • 6. Beatrice Blaine Essay F. Scott Fitzgerald s characterization of Beatrice Blaine provides insight on how living in a post World War I time affects women. In the beginning of the novel, the narrator sheds light on the mental illness of Beatrice Blaine, talking about the breakdowns she had, eventually sending her to the hospital in which the doctors told [her] that if any man alive had done the consistent drinking that [she has], he would have been physically shattered, my dear, and in his grave (Fitzgerald 21). Beatrice s heavy drinking bears the question as to what exactly is causing her to do engage in this act. A possible explanation of this is seen on page seven in which she states that [She is] feeling very old to day... [Her] nerves are on edge on edge. [Her and Amory] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This, in turn, causes her to try and find the sunshine a symbol for a new kind of world that includes happiness, tranquility, freedom, and hope; everything that the world she lives in today, does not have. By not being able to obtain this sunshine she is despondent and dreary about her life, which inevitably drives her to drink alcohol in excess. When Beatrice is reunited with her son Amory, who has returned from school, she explains that in her dreams, she had wonderful visions... [She] saw bronze rivers lapping marble shores, and great birds that soared through the air, parti colored birds with iridescent plumage (Fitzgerald 21). In her description of her dreams, the reader is able to comprehend Beatrice s ideal world, her utopia. It is obvious that she dreams of a world that is substantially better than the corrupted and unstable world of the nineteen twenties. In one critical analysis essay by Barry Gross, he states that Fitzgerald s novels are always about: the realization that life is essentially a cheat and its conditions are those of defeat (Gross ... • 7. Goal Cash Management ) The of goal cash management is to minimize the amount of cash the business must hold to conduct its normal activities while having sufficient cash on hand to support operations (Gapenski, L. C., Reiter, K. L., 2016, p 601). Short term investments may offer minimal returns but cash offers zero. The point is to get the most return on funds and have only the minimum cash on hand. Float is the difference between the balance sheet on a business s checkbook and the balance shown on the bank s books (p 602). This difference is due to the delay in processing of the checks written or the checks received. Receipt accelerations are processes to increase the speed of processing check payments. Two examples are lockboxes and automated clearing houses (p 603). Lockboxes are regional post office boxes where payments are sent and geographically processed to decrease delays in transit. Lockboxes can increase the availability of funds by 1 3 days. Automated clearing house is a communication network that send data from one bank to another. This allows immediate electronic transfer of funds instead of paper checks (p 604). Distribution control is controlling the outflow of cash. This control is limited by ethical issues in the delay of payments and the potential loss of timely payment discounts. One method to control distribution is a zero balance account. A zero balance account is a bank account have a zero balance. Funds are transferred from a master account as needed to cover checks ... • 8. We Must Make Virtual Child Pornography Illegal Essay The Supreme Court lifted a 1996 act banning virtual child pornography. The six to three ruling, led by Justice Anthony Kennedy, says the law violates First Amendment freedom of speech rights guaranteed to every citizen of the United States of America. Although many free speech advocates are shouting victory, many citizens across the country are lamenting over the loss in the fight against child pornography. Child pornography has been present in society for centuries, but has only recently become more accessible through the development of the printing press and subsequently, the technology of the Internet. Until the mid 1990s, illegal child pornography [had only] involved depictions of actual children engaged in sexually explicit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Quick to validate the new law, Congress proclaimed that child pornography is often used as part of a method of seducing other children into sexual activity (Slade). Congress further went on to say that with recent technology, having the ability to alter and enhance sexually exploitive images might render enforcement against pornography using real children impossible because determining real pictures from enhanced picture had the probability of being a very daunting and challenging task. This strengthened the government s argument that the law had a significant potential to protect many children from molestation and abuse. Child pornography laws instated during the 1970s were some of the first in the crusade to protect children from sexual predators. This was because most of national news magazines were printing detailed articles concerning child sexual abuse at the time. In just a few weeks, a national campaign against the making and sale of child pornography exploded (Finkelhor 1) and politicians took note. In 1977, the government enacted the Sexual Exploitation of Children Act which prohibited sexually explicit photography of minors, the use of minors in production of pornography, and any material promoting child pornography. Due to misunderstandings of what minor really meant, the Child Protection Act of 1984 was ratified. It was then concluded that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. How Does Salt Affect The Height Of Ice Cream Title: What is the effect of salt content on the height of ice cream? Purpose The purpose of the experiment was to see if more salt content resulted in higher ice cream formations. Background Information To make ice cream you need milk, half and half, sugar and vanilla. All of these products make ice cream, but they must be cooled down. That is where salt comes in. Just like when salt is spread on roads in cold weather to prevent freezing roads, salt in ice cream allows the freezing point to decrease. Since ice cream isn t just water, salt is needed to make the ice creams temperature below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. The salt makes the mixture of ice cream colder than with just ice. By mixing the ice and salt, the freezing point gets lowered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the amount of salt (Tbsp.) increased, so did the height of Ice cream. When two Tbsp. of salt were used, the data resulted in 4.8 cm, 3.1 cm, and 3.4 cm. When the control (6 Tbsp.) were used, the height resulted in 7.5 cm, 8.4 cm, and 5.9 cm. Ten Tbsp. resulted in 5.2 cm, 11.4 cm, and 9.8 cm. As one can see, increasing the amount of salt, showed an increase in the height of Ice cream. Conclusion The purpose of the experiment was to see if more salt content resulted in higher ice cream formations. The question the lab asked was What variable needs to be changed to produce greater ice cream height? The hypothesis was If the salt content increases, then the ice cream formation will yield taller formations. The hypothesis was supported. As the salt content went from 2 Tbsp., 6 Tbsp., and 10 Tbsp. The average went up from 3.6 cm per 2 Tbsp. to 7.2 cm per 6 Tbsp. to 8.8 cm per 10 Tbsp. The principle guiding the outcome, was the salt, lowering the freezing point. Works Cited Singularity. • 12. Gravitational Potential Energy Lab Report Purpose: To find out the relationship between gravitational potential energy, kinetic energy, and total mechanical energy of a cart as it rolls down a ramp Hypothesis: If the cart rolls down the ramp with constant speed, then the kinetic energy will get bigger, the gravitational potential energy will decrease, and the total mechanical energy will stay at the same constant value, because due to the law of Conservation of Energy, these are the estimated results. Materials/Apparatus: ramp (1) textbooks (3/4) meter stick (1) motion sensor (1) cart (1) GLX system Procedures: The ramp was raised at a 8.4 degree angle using 3 textbooks The length and the height of the ramp was measured using a meter stick The motion sensor was placed on the top of the ramp. The cart was placed near the notion sensor and released As the cart rolled down the ramp, the position time graph of the cart was recored One point near the end of the graph was chosen and was represented by its d2 and the reference point, which was used to determine the height of the cart. (this point was kept throughout the whole experiment) The equation h = d (h/L) was used to calculate the height of the cart on the ramp The slope tool was used to determine the speed at any point The position and the speed was determined using the point near the start if the graph These values were used to complete the first row The other positions from the graph were used to complete the next three rows Observations: ... • 14. The Importance Of Democracy In Colonial America Language, like all else, changes over time. Nice used to mean foolish, and awful used to mean full of awe. This too gives context to why when democracy, or rule by the people, is mentioned today, the word does not have the same connotation as it did to the inhabitants of colonial North America. Similarly, the democracy of the 1800s, colloquially known as the early republic period, was different from democracy during the time of the revolution. The tradition in colonial Virginia, for instance, was that democratic voting power only applied to the aristocratic members of the clergy. In New England, only the property holding elect had a say in town decisions. This tradition of not quite equality in democracy held through to revolutionary times. As Stanley N. Katz puts it, Indeed, during most of American history, framers of constitutions, lawmakers, and judges avoided committing the nation to the protection of individual equality. Because of the strength of majorities, laissez faire economic policy, and an increase in opportunity, democracy replaced tradition as the provider of political power during the early republic in the northern United States. White males gained universal suffrage because of their numbers, breaking the aristocratic property based tradition. In the earliest days of the United States, most state constitutions adopted the same voting eligibility as were established in the colonies and in Britain: ownership of property. The justification for this, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Dark Ages Of The Middle Ages The Renaissance was the period in European history that referred how people were finally learning about the Classical antiquity. It also marked the translation from the Middle Ages to the Modern world. The length of the period lasted from 14th century to the 17th century, but it forever changed the Western World. People during the Renaissance viewed the other periods throughout history differently. Everyone was worshipping the Classical antiquity since the people were free to think and question while the Middle Ages caused people to go into silence for fears of punishment. They were most disgusted with the Middle Ages because of how much it wasn t the Classical antiquity. The Dark Ages, a nickname for the Middle Ages made by the Renaissance, were often described the backwards civilization that had formed after the Western Roman Empire collapsed. However, Classical antiquity appealed every Renaissance man and woman because their artworks and ruins were found all over Europe and it caused people to be curious about it. Once they learn of the Romans and the Greeks, it led to people coming up with their own ideas while challenging the Catholic Church s ideas. Once the Renaissance began and spread across Europe, major discoveries would forever change world history. The Guide for the Perplexed is a series of three books that argues for the compatibility of Aristotelian philosophy and Judaism. The first book deals with the nature of God, concluding that God cannot be described in positive terms. The second book examines natural philosophy, particularly Aristotle s system of concentric spheres, and theories of the creation and duration of the universe, and the theory of angels and prophecy. In the last Book, he clarifies the mystical Merkabah section of Ezekiel (Friedlander, Sacred Texts). Following this he covers the 613 laws of the Pentateuch, organized into 14 branches, attempting to present rational explanations for each law. He wrote the Guide to promote the true understanding of the real spirit of the Law, to guide those religious persons who, adhering to the Torah, have studied philosophy and are embarrassed by the contradictions between the teachings of philosophy and the literal sense of the Torah (Jacobs, Jewish Encyclopedia). This Guide was recognized as Maimonides most significant and life changing books, which had many impacts on Judaism. It showed that faith and reason were compatible and encouraged Jews to base their faith on reason. • 18. Analysis Of Budgets Lie At The Core Of Every Business... Introduction Budgets lie at the core of every business practice. The tools are the major evaluators of managerial effectiveness and overall organizational performance. Businesses can achieve effective control and planning through the application of the right budgeting approaches in financial and accounting activities. Nonetheless, these benefits can only be realized if the managers of a company use the most effective models that take into account all relevant factors, which influence a firm s budget. An inefficient method automatically leads to attainment of poor results. In this light, practitioners in the financial and accounting sectors evaluate different budgeting techniques in terms of efficiency, flexibility, accurate results, and ease of use. One of the approaches that attract immense criticism in respect to these considerations is the traditional budgeting approach. It is, therefore, essential to look into the reasons as to why the model has been criticized as a rigid method that should be eliminated (Zeller Metzger 2013). Weaknesses of Traditional Budgeting Traditional budgeting model is not a new concept in business practice. Its application goes beyond the contemporary practices that have seen the development of new techniques. The model dates back to the onset of 1920s when the managers of the industrial revolution realized the need to control costs and the cash flows of a firm. • 23. Nurture Nature Vs Nature The debate between nature and nurture addresses genetic and environmental determinants and which principles apply to our lives. Humans are affected by choices made by others and ourselves and things that are meant to happen. Free will is being able to make a choice to do something on our own or to act in certain situations independently of natural, social, or divine restraints (Encyclopedia Britannica). Social cues are verbal or nonverbal hints that are meant to guide peers about their actions, the conversation they re having, etc.. Determinism is the belief that everything is naturally connected to the universe and every event happens because of the events that came before it. Fatalism follows the belief that events occur naturally, but without influence of humans. Nurture is a greater influences on our lives than nature; humans operate upon the principles of free will, social cues, and determinism. Determinism supports the idea that our outcomes are based on our choices and that they are meant to happen that way. An example of one s deterministic view is Brent Staples describing the ways he unintentionally frightened those around him in public and he would go out of his way to make them feel safer. Summary Of 13 Most Wanted Men By Alhol Warhol Instead of taking the rejection with a grain of salt and moving on, Warhol interpreted it as a challenge to convince others to view him as a serious artist. He realized no one would take him seriously if he continued to pursue his interests such as displayed in Boys Kissing Boys. Instead of moving away from his homosexual subject matter altogether, Warhol found other less direct ways of including it in his work. 13 Most Wanted Men was commissioned to be displayed at the 1964 1965 New York World s fair, but it was painted over within days of its debut in what some have described as quite literally white washing the work. Warhol printed large images of criminals side by side who were suspected of being part of the Mafia; the images he gathered were from a booklet that was released by the NYPD s Commissioner a few months prior to the fair s opening day. The piece was 20 x20 and done entirely in black and white. Gerard Malanga, Warhol s studio assistant, said [Andy] thought it would be funny and shocking within the context of a family outing, in regards to Warhol s choice of subject matter. The subject in this context is the wanted men. On the surface of the work, it features mugshots of thirteen criminals, however, there is a double meaning placed within the title of the work. The court also looks at Restatement 2d § 46 which states One who by extreme and outrageous conduct intentionally or recklessly causes severe emotional distress to another is subject to liability for such emotional distress, and if bodily harm to the other results from it, for such bodily harm. Restatements 2d would consider the repeated attempt at unnecessary debt recovery the extreme and outrageous conduct. 6. Holding: As stated in the case: one who, without a privilege to do so, by extreme and outrageous conduct intentionally causes severe emotional distress to another, with bodily harm resulting from such distress, is subject to liability for such emotional distress and bodily harm even though he has committed no heretofore recognized common law tort. 7. Court s Order: As a result of this holding the court has established sufficient law entitles P to have her case heard before trial court. 8. • 37. Negatives And Negatives Of Photography Today, in technology we can do anything we want with images, and it has been used as a tool for evidence. Photographers can do many things for example, keeping records of people s lives, allowing memories to last forever and intriguing people. I can t imagine living without photography because photography is more than just a image. Without photography, we wouldn t have pictures of our childhoods, siblings, and pasts. Since digital manipulation existed, it started to make people feel deceived. In the real world, there are so many unrealistic body images that look perfect that we start to question and doubt our appearances because, in our minds, we want what they have. It is wrong to fool people with a manipulated image. Photo manipulation has a negative effect on our society and it has to be put to a stop. Photo manipulation started earlier than you think. As early as 1825 There was a man by the name of Joseph Nicephore Niepce. Joseph have constructed a photographic print using a photo engraved printing plate. He was able to use multiple ways of manipulation. The real photo manipulation did not start until about the 20th century when actual digital photos were being taken regularly. • 39. The Is An Integral Part National Security Cybersecurity is an integral part national security. Cyber attacks are increasing in frequency and success and can target virtually anything connected to a network. These threats can affect everyday activities such as talking on a cell phone, driving a car, riding a train, shopping, or flying. They can also affect the highest levels of our country s government, from a Secretary of State s email server to the data base of millions of government and military employees. Nearly everything these days is digital. That simple fact means that everything digital is vulnerable. From military technology to a child monitor, the cybersecurity is paramount to national security, because if it can be used to destroy or disrupt, an adversary will try to employ it in their favor. Cybersecurity and US National Security Policy The idea of cyber security actually originated following the Cold War, when technological innovations were becoming more and more computerized and the threat of a digital Pearl Harbor or the use of weapons of mass disruption were talking points of politicians and tech specialists (Hansen, L., Nissenbaum, H., 2009, p. 1155). Modern society and specifically the US, as one of the most technologically advanced nations in the world, is built on a system dependent on electronics, telecommunications, energy, and a financial system heavily dependent on the internet, servers, and connectivity (de Laat, W., 2012, p. 453). Even though they were productive members the society, women were not allowed to vote or have an input in the government (Marshall). Men had compelled [women] to submit to laws, in the formation of which [they] had no choice (The Declaration of Sentiments). Thus, women were not treated equally to men and they had no control over this. Women also had the legal status of a minor, meaning they could not own property or make many of their own decisions. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sarah and Angelina Grimke were two sisters who lived in the south, but joined the abolition movement regardless (Kendall 35). The abolition movement was closely linked to the women s rights movement because many saw the cult of domesticity as a form of slavery (Marshall). The Grimkes attended and spoke at a series of lectures in 1837 and 1838. Their speeches were later published as Letters on the Equality of the Sexes and the Condition of Woman (Kendall 37). In one letter to her sister, Sarah is quoted to have said all I ask of our brethren is, that they will take their feet from off our necks and permit us to stand upright on the ground which God designed us to occupy (Kendall 36). In this, Grimke highlights the oppression felt by women in the time period and the importance of allowing women to have a voice. Another activist, Elizabeth Cady Stanton also felt it was essential for men to have no more rights or power than women. She coined the motto, men, their rights and nothing more: women, their rights and nothing less, (Kendall 42) meaning that men should have nothing more than women, but women are not above men either. • 43. Tell Tale Heart Literary Devices Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees very gradually I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever. Edgar Allan Poe is the author of Tell Tale Heart, a horror story with a lot of suspense and many different literary writing techniques infiltrated into the story. In fact, Poe is a master of suspense and horror and the literary techniques he uses in his writing intensify these two characteristics. Three techniques the Poe uses in Tell Tale Heart are similes, punctuation and repetition, and point of view. One of the literary techniques that Poe uses in Tell Tale Heart are similes. One of the reasons that Poe uses similes when he is writing Tell Tale Heart was because similes were a good way to help get what he was thinking/his point across to the reader. An example of him doing this in Tell Tale Heart was whenever Poe was talking about how stealthy and carefully he would watch the man at night. Poe writes So I opened the lantern you cannot imagine how stealthily, stealthily until at length, a single dim ray, like the thread of the spider, shot out from the crevice and fell upon the vulture eye. This example from Tell Tale Heart also shows another reason why Poe uses similes in his writing. This reason is because the similes that Poe uses helps his readers see the image that he is trying to paint for them more clearly. Finally, Poe uses similes in his writing because they can help keep his readers focused and because similes can also help grab a reader s attention. An example of this from Tell Tale Heart is whenever Poe is talking about the beating sound that he hears that keeps getting louder and louder. He writes, the sound increased...and what could I do? It was a low, dull, quick sound, as a watch enveloped in cotton... Poe used similes like this one to help keep his readers interested in what he had to say. In Tell Tale Heart, Poe uses punctuation and repetition to intensify his writing. One reason why Poe likes to use this literary technique in his writing so much is because it helps build suspense in the story. Since Poe likes to write horrifying and suspenseful stories and he likes to keep people on the edge of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thesis Statement Attending school as an adult, and maintaining a source of employment can be a daunting task, as many adults who had to delay their college education must know. One of the most challenging aspects of adult life consists of learning how to adjust accordingly to the rigors of life at home as well as the workplace. Failure to do so can lead to a life of complete disarray, stress, illness and exhaustion. II. We must look at the adverse effects that those long work hours have on the human body. Overworked individuals can suffer from work related illnesses as a result of excessive stress. Work related stress can result from extended hours due to mandatory overtime in some case. An employer s rigid work hours which can prevent employees from tending to occasional issues at home can also be blamed for stress on the job. Employees suffering the effects of stress in the workplace tend to have bouts of absenteeism. A. Supporting evidence Absenteeism in the workplace is a major issue, with tangible and intangible costs. Although the absentee loses wages in the process, the major loss is at the expense of the employer. The ebrary book by Lynn Tylczak, (Attacking absenteeism 1990), describes the intangible costs of absenteeism as follows: Absentee costs are difficult to quantify. Experts estimate direct wage loses of more than $30 billion per year, and that s just the beginning. Employers also need to consider the costs of supplementary or replacement workers. These costs include: Regular wages, overtime wages, and company benefits Supplementary benefits, such as Social Security, worker s compensation, and unemployment compensation Administration of recruitment, selection orientation, and training Penalty costs resulting from delays. The author (Lynn T. 1990) also gives the following explanation from the tangible cost of absenteeism: It forces ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction During this experiment the main equipment used was a spectrophotometer and a micropipette to achieve relevant results. Selecting a specific wavelength of visible light (390 770nm) on the spectrophotometer, the photons pass through the cuvette and are picked up by a photodetector which calculates the absorbance of the substance which was transferred from the source to the cuvettes using a micropipette. This is done using Beer Lambert law A=lc (A=absorbance absorption coefficient l=path length c=concentration), from this I was able to draw a calibration curve and an absorption spectrum which allowed me to achieve my aim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The micropipettes possibly did not release the exact volume of solution into the cuvette that was required this can influence the final results greatly as a higher/lower volume would mean a higher/lower level of absorption. This limitation can be removed next time by using more sophisticated pipettes. Moreover, another limitation was that the cuvettes were not cleaned properly and possibly had finger prints on the surface. When inserting such a cuvette into the spectrophotometer the light photons would get absorbed by the finger prints and not the solution giving a lower final absorption for that specific concentration. In the future to remove this limitation the surface of the cuvettes should be cleaned properly and to make sure to not hold the cuvette by the cleaned surface when transferring it to the spectrophotometer. In conclusion this investigation highly increased my knowledge on the use of spectrophotometer and other lab techniques and as a first timer the final result of 39% which was 6% off the expected value was not bad. I believe that for next time if all the limitations I stated are taken care off, then the value of 45% is easily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
