Education System of Great Britain, Usa and Australia
Education in Great Britain is divided into four areas. England and Wales have the same education
system, unlike Northern Ireland and Scotland whos education system are different. In England and
Wales education system consists of primary, secondary, further and higher education. Compulsory
education last for 11 years and children are legally required to start attending school after their fifth
birthday (or earlier) and finish it somewhere at the age of 16. Most pupils transfer from primary
school to secondary school at age of 11 or 12. There is also middle schools system in which students
are transferred from primary school at the age of 8 or 9, then onto secondary schools at the age of 12
or 13. In Scotland, compulsory school also last ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Great Britain, the most common thing students to after obtaining GCSE is staying in school or
attending college for a two year A level course. A levels are most commonly studied between the ages
16 18. Completing 3 or 4 A levels allows students to continue their education by applying for degree
courses at universities and with that gaining higher education. There is a similar situation in USA for
students who finished secondary education by obtaining highschool diploma and would like to attend
college or university. To achieve that, USA students have to attend undergraduate schools that offer
either a two year degree also known as associate degree or a four year degree called bachelors degree
in a specific course of study called major. Students who finished four year degree program and gained
bachelors degree can continue their education in graduate schools. There they can pursue one of two
types of diplomas. The first one is called master s degree and it usually takes two years of study after
which you are considered to be highly specialized in a specific field. The second type of diploma
available for students who have bachelors degree is PhD or a doctorate degree which usually takes 3 6
years to complete.
In Australia, students who want to continue their education can go either to TAFE (Technical and
Further Education) institutions or they can finish senior high school level studies (years 11 and 12 of
education ) and obtain VCE ( Victorian

Understanding Cultural Communication
Language is a communication method that makes everything easy to communicate with others. The
language barrier is the biggest challenge and hurdle of most people whom their English is a second
language. Growing up in a family with parents that only speak another language could be viewed very
similarly to a double edged sword. This challenge with society forces people to learn the English
language. Although there a lot of difficulties with the second language, eventually the transition
between both languages would become easier by time and more practice. Starting to be able to
comprehend the English language is the best way overcomes this barrier. Although these challenges
were not easy to overcome, persistence, dedication and hard work would facilitate everything. Despite
the fact that language is considered the biggest barrier, culture comes as a second harder barrier in
means of communication. Effective communication with people of different cultures is especially
challenging. Culture on the other hand, provides people with ways of thinking, seeing and hearing
and, then understands the things around. Thus, the same word can mean different things to people
from different cultures, even when they talk the same language. Stella Ting Toomey describes how
culture involves with cultural understanding where ach culture has its own rules about proper behavior
which affect verbal and nonverbal communication. How close the people stand to each

Analysis Of Why Millennials CanT Grow Up
The Millennial Generation is earning 20 percent less than the Generation X and the Baby Boomers.
Psychotherapist at NYU (according to the university s website), Brooke Donatone argues in her
article, Why Millennials Can t Grow Up that millennials experience extended adolescence that delays
adulthood (Donatone 1). The author believes that the reasons for that happening are parents by their
helicopter parenting and the economy because there are less high paying jobs that allow millennials to
be financially independent. Throughout the article, Donatone explains that there is evidence on how it
is not millennials fault that they are experiencing delayed adulthood. Therefore, it is safe to assume
that her intended audience are the parents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His article also contrasts Donatone s second flaw of unprofessional tone because he continuously stays
professional and mindful of his audience that comes from world of business professionals. Donatone
proposes that the reason for millennials struggles with adulthood, like working, dealing with people or
even doing laundry is caused by helicopter parenting; however, she uses Amy, a girl that comes from a
family with moderate wealth, to wrongly generalize that all millennials come from similar
background. It is especially inappropriate and unfair to generalize about this topic because she talks
about such a big and diverse group that is millennial generation, and not everyone comes from the
same background. Donatone shows that Amy comes from middle class family when she says She
finally had to dump the part time job, was still unable to do laundry, and often stayed up until 2 a.m. to
complete her homework because she didn t know how to manage her time without her parents ...
(Donatone 1). In order for someone to be able to drop their job they need someone that can help with
their financial needs and wants, therefore it is safe to assume that Amy comes from a family with
moderate wealth that is able to support those needs and wants. The author s moment when she
generalizes that all millennials are like Amy and come from similar background is when she states It s
easy to generalize an entire population by its

Alexander The Great Achievement
Alexander the great also known as Alexander the third of Macedon. Was a king of the ancient greek
kingdom of Macedon. He was born in Pella in 356 B.C. and took over his fathers kingdom at twenty.
He started making a military campaign through Asia ,northeast Africa, and by the age of thirty he
created one of the largest empires of the ancient world. Strethching to Greece to egypt into northeast
India and Pakistan, his empire was growing at an alarming rate.Alexander s defeat of the Persian
Empire removed the block that had prevented the spread of Greek settlements into the East. though no
evidence suggests that Alexander himself promoted a policy of Hellenization, Greek culture
undoubtedly penetrated into western Asia as the result of his conquest, and Asia, up to the
Mesopotamian, became a part of the Greek world. This is Alexander s best achievement. While it is
clear that his father had a great part on his life, but Alexander himself wanted to see his success as
driven by his forces. He called himself the son o Zeus and claimed that he was a demigod saying his

The Effect Of Folic Acid On The Middle Of The 1800s
Toward the middle of the 1900s, a compound called folic acid was synthesized to mimic a compound
in the pteroylgutamate family, known as Folate. Folate is found naturally in foods such as kale,
spinach and other leafy greens, but folic acid does not exist in nature and must be artificially created.
This artificial substance had never before been used in the human diet, but in 1998 the Food and Drug
Agency legislated that widely consumed products such as breads, cereals, and many other commercial
grains be fortified with this compound. The driving force for this legislation came as a result of the
wide spread prevalence of neural tube defects, spinabifida and other developmental issues resulting
from deficiency. Although Folate is widely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Folate has been used for 40 years to successfully reduce the risk of neural tube defects and
related issues, there are still lingering concerns about its safety such as the masking effect it may have
on populations at risk for or already deficient in vitamin B12. The recommended amount of Folate
intake based on the RDAs is set at around 400mcg DFE 600mcg DFE depending on gender and
pregnancy status.1 This very level was set in order to achieve a status that prevents deficiency in the
general population and neural tube defects in infants, while remaining low enough to avoid the
potential masking effect Folate can have upon B12. Folate amounts higher than 5000mcg certainly can
alleviate megaloblastic anemia when the presumed cause of anemia is a Folate deficiency.1 However,
if Folate is not the underlying deficiency, these high levels can also attract medical attention away
from a B12 deficiency, allowing neurological damage to become permanent. These risks extend
further into the realm of neurological function due to the role of Folate and B12 as cofactors in the
CNS, where high levels of Folate and low levels of B12 could result in reduced Methionine and
elevated Homocysteine concentrations. Methionine plays a vital role in numerous methylation
reactions throughout the body that are essential to the

Market Entry Modes
International market entry modes allow firms to enter foreign markets and can choose the most
appropriate entry mode for their industry. After analysing market drivers, demand and consumer
behaviour, Pharmaceutical firms may choose the most strategic mode of entry to enter a market. The
market entry mode is strategic and is regarded as a major factor in the Internationalisation process
(Morschett et al.,2015, p.323). As illustrated below, the International market entry model outlines that
Pharmaceutical firms may enter foreign markets through Exports/Imports, Subsidiaries,
Mergers/Acquisitions, Joint ventures, or Licensing.
Figure 2.4 An international market entry model for pharmaceutical companies. (Adapted from Javalgi
Wright,2003, p.277).
Joint Venture
A joint venture is characterised by the need to achieve a business transaction while remaining separate
from each other. Each firm maintains its resources and independence while engaging in an activity,
with the objective of achieving certain objectives. The need for joint ventures in the Pharmaceutical
industry may be characterised by the need to reduce high R D costs and by so doing, share costs
through common equity (Roijakkers Hagedoon,2005, p.8). Joint venture as a mode of market entry

In process licensing, a firm gives the licensee the right to use production processes. This type of
licensing may be common in the Pharmaceutical industry, regarding patented drugs/products. Product
licensing allows a firm to grant specific rights in the manufacture of products, while distribution
licensing gives the licensee the ability to market and distribute products in an area. Brand licensing
allows a firm to use a firm s brand. Licensing enables the licensor to benefit from the skills,
comparative advantage, and other capacities of the licensee (Morschett et al., 2015,

The Security Has Become A Hot Button Issue
National security has become a hot button issue here in the United States. Rather than representing
other nations, opposing forces represent different ideologies. Enemy personnel may appear as anyone
or come from anywhere, even from the United States. These enemies have a potential to acquire
dangerous weapons and cause detrimental amounts of damage to our nation. To save the country from
these extreme life threatening circumstances, where there is clear and specific evidence, torture is
ought to be reasonable so as to spare innocent lives. Most people in a civilized nation disagree with
torture. However, in compelling and threatening circumstances it may be allowed. Here is the reason,
Many terrorist organizations take advantage of the situation and make an entryway for an assault.
Without the usage of torture, it would take extra time and open doors for another strike later on.
Through the use of torture, the CIA gained useful data by interrogating two terrorist group leaders,
Khalid Sheik Mohammed and Abu Zubaydah, both of them gave significant data, after agents used
torture. (Gordon n.p.) Zubaydah showed the way to Khalid Mohammed, who was found to be the
mastermind behind 9 11 attacks. (Gordon n.p.) The usage of torture helped gain useful information
about terrorist organizations accountable for the assaults and it opened a way to stop possible assaults
driven by Al Qaida later on. (In Debate n.p.) Present and former U.S. authorities have claimed they

The Effects of Fear on the Society Essay
The Effects of Fear on the Society Economics of population is, at its simplest, the study of a
distribution of resources. As demographic and environmental factors change, the careful balance of
supply and demand becomes altered. This change in the distribution of resources is usually a slow
developing process, as rising fertility rates or environmental waste can decade by decade create a
greater imbalance between what is available for consumption and what is needed for survival. Still,
sudden unexpected events sometimes arise that greatly disrupt the environmental balance. Such was
the case on September eleventh. On that morning, a hijacked airplane collided with one of the two
towers that make up the World Trade Center. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clearly, the most debilitating effect of these terrorist acts was not the loss of thousands of floors of
office space or four large aircrafts, but rather was the creation of fear in American society. Simply put,
Americans do not know what will happen tomorrow. With the threat of a long impending war as well
as the frightening possibility of more terrorist attacks to come, Americans are very unclear about their
future. This fear can have a devastating effect on the economy, as businesses are less willing to invest
and citizens are less willing to spend. The Economic Effects of Fear A disaster can hurt the economy
in two ways. It can reduce supply, that is, it can interfere with the economy s ability to produce or it
can reduce demand, as it makes people unwilling to buy the economy s products. Clearly the latter is
the case today. The Conference Board, a New York business research group, announced that the index
of consumer sentiment, a key measure of consumer confidence, dropped to 97.6 in September from a
revised 114 in August, the biggest one month decline since the 1990 recession (US Confidence 1).
Indeed, U.S. consumer confidence is at a fiveyear low (Despeignes 1). As Morgan Stanley market
strategist Peter Canelo articulated, It s no longer about earnings or the economy or interest rates
anymore. It s about fear (Pethokoukis 4). As BusinessWeek wrote, Uncertainties about war, its impact,
personal safety, and the

A Brief Note On Depression And The Depression
Robyn Lawhorn
July 11, 2015
Psychology 100
Mrs. Fischer
Hours Worked: 22 Major depression, also known as unipolar depression, is one of the most common
mental illnesses. Over nine million adults each year suffer from depression. Many people don t
understand what depression really is, including myself until I did a lot of research over this subject.
Major depression is more than a temporary state of being sad. It is a persistent state that can
significantly impair an individual s thoughts, behavior, daily activities, and physical health. According
to The Stanford School of Medicine, they said that major depressive disorder impacts all racial, ethnic,
and socioeconomic groups and can occur at any age. (Depression Research Clinic) Depression is a
common, but serious illness that can occur in people of all ages; teenagers, adults, and older adults.
Depression is a condition that reportedly affects one in every ten Americans at some point in their
lives. The incidence of depression is actually higher in some states than others. Certain ethnicities also
report higher depression rates than others. According to Healthline, the number of patients diagnosed
with depression increases by approximately 20% each year. (Healthline) In the United States,
Oklahoma, Arizona, Tennessee, West Virginia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama have the highest
reported rates of depression. These states also show high rates of other negative health outcomes such
as obesity, heart disease,

The Habits Of The Polar Bear
The polar bear is a large bear that lives in the north. They are the second largest bear in the bear
family, and they have a unique white fur that differentiates them from the rest of the bears. This white
fur is not only their unique characteristic, but also an amazing tool that God has given them so that
they can survive in the wild. In order to better understand polar bear, one must understand their habits,
their characteristics, and the dangers they are facing.
First of all it s a question that everyone has, what do they eat? Their diet depends on high fat content
in seal fat, this is one of the few stuff that can provide them enough calories to maintain their survival
and to pass down their genes. They usually eat seals. Ringed seals are eaten by the females and little
ones, and the males hunt the bearded seals, which are bigger than the ringed seals. In the good times
when they have access to much food, they may eat only the bladder and the skin of the seal because
that s the fattest part. However, when times are not that good, they will also eat other stuff if it is
available. They will hunt whales if they are trapped, they will also accept small animals and any
carcass within their reach. Unlike some bears, they don t have the habit of storing food. After they
finish eating, they will leave the rest of the body for scavengers. Sometimes the scavengers might be
other polar bears that failed their hunt. It is also very common for them to share food. Once, a scientist

Natural And Moral Liberty By John Winthrop
Introduction. The new boundaries and opportunities in the seventeenth century grew and challenged
an idea of religious liberty. The lifestyle of the first colonists in the New England was heavily
influenced by religion and church. Settlers considered that success of social life depends on the
obedience to God s will. The governor John Winthrop maintained and developed this idea. With a help
of his Speech to the Massachusetts General Court in 1645, he summed up and explained an important
idea of liberty. Winthrop did not only define a blessed way for a better life of the community but also
clarified the role of citizens through the analogy of women s position in the society. His concept of
natural and moral liberty turned up to be suitable and clear for the settlers. With a help of well built
speech, Winthrop emphasized and explained correlation among society, authority, and God in the New
World.

and glorious politician. He focused people s attention on his speech in 1645 when started it with an

In the next part of the speech, Winthrop illustrated a position of women in society. It was not a secret
that the seventeenth century was a men s world. According to law and social order, women could not
vote or have a possession. Consequently, the majority of women were housewives and had secondary
roles after their husband, father or brothers. However, in spite of this miserable positions Winthrop
showed that women still had some choice, the woman s own choice makes such a man her husband;
yet, being so chosen, he is her lord (Foner 31). It is similar how Christians choose their Savior. Thus,
Winthrop pointed out, she is to be subject to him (Foner 31). In another word women s role in the
community was invisible and slightest disobedience was severely

The Life Of Joan Of Arc
Since God had commanded it, it was necessary that I do it. Since God commanded it, even if I had a

(Joan of Arc) Joan of Arc once said after she had gotten the call to follow God. Joan of Arc was and
still is an inspiration to everyone. By her early life she is recodnized, end of life, and by how she
influences the world today. Joan of Arc was a great leader and woman. Jeanne d Arc, or Joan of Arc in
English, was born in 1412 in Domrémy, France while they were at war with England. Of a poor
farmer named Jacques d Arc she was the daughter and her mother Isabelle or Romée. Her mother
taught her how to work at home and on the farm. About God and the Catholic Church she only ever
learned. When she hit the age of thirteen, she started hearing voices and having visions. In a few of her
visions were Saint Michael and Saint Catherine. To help fight for France against the English she
believed that they were all telling her. At sixteen years of age, she was forced into a marriage by her
father after taking a vow of chastity, so she went to the court and they said that she would not be
compelled to marry. Joan of Arc was an extremely stubborn and strong willed woman from an early
age who would do what she thought was right and what needed to be done. (Joan of Arc) In the late
spring of 1428 Joan of Arc went off to fight in the war. The virgin who was destined to save France,

J Alfred Prufrock Tone
The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock
Paper Assignment Close Reading
In T.S. Eliot s 1915 modernist poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock , the overall mood and tone
in the poem reflect the speaker s opinions of the time it was written in. An interesting way to look at
this poem is to assume that the author used the character of Alfred Prufrock to explore his own attempt
of trying to make sense of the rapidly changing, confusing, and gloomy world in which he lived. So,
we can safely assume that trying to make sense of the outside world is a recurring motif in this poem.
This can be seen by looking at both the poem as a whole, as well as the quote chosen for analysis.
By choosing to use nature imagery, such as Combing the white hair of the waves blown back , the
author depicts the speaker s need to retreat to nature in order to seek a peaceful spot to reflect on his
choices and try to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

compliance with the overall gloomy and melancholic tone of this poem. When the speaker says: And

object of romantic interest he refers to does not actually know how the speaker feels about them. We

Supply And Demand Of A Good Or Service
Supply and demand is a fundamental factor in shaping the character of the marketplace. A demand
refers to the specific quantity of a product /good or service that people are willing and able to buy at
given price level, where supply of a good or service represents how much quantity people are willing
and able to offer for sale at given price level. There are various factors that demand and supply of a
good or service depend on. Demand of a product depends on the price of the product, number of
buyers in the market, tastes and preferences of consumer, consumer s income, consumer expectations
and prices of related commodities. Supply of a product depends on the price of that product, number
of sellers in the market, technology, input ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Demand is determined by many factors other than price. The shift in demand curve occurs when there
is a change in factors other than price, results in the shift of demand curve. For example, if level of
income of an individual or a community rises, then demand will increase at the same price level
leading demand curve to shift to the right. Similarly, if there is a fall in the disposable income of the
consumers or rise in the prices of close substitute of a good or decline in consumer taste or goods are
unavailable, etc., at the same price level, there is a fall or decrease in demand leading demand curve to
shift to the left as shown in Figure 2

factor changes except its own price, the supply curve will shift towards left or right at same price
level. For example, For example, if production cost of a product increases, then the supply will
decrease and the supply curve will shift towards right and if the production cost decreases, then supply
will increase and the supply curve will shift towards left, as shown in figure: 3 With the help of above

Portraiture Depictions Of Queen Elizabeth I
Portraiture Depictions of Queen Elizabeth I Elizabeth Tudor or Queen Elizabeth I was and is one of
the greatest monarchs in English history. Obtaining the crown at a young age of twenty five, she
seized a bankrupt country caused by previous rulers, a country with an unstable religion, and loose ties
with other great powers of the world. Elizabeth I ruled for nearly half a century granting her the
remembrance with reigning with stability, the flourishment of the arts, and increased trade. Elizabeth s
sense of duty to her people was very admirable and that is one the reasons that makes her such a great
monarch. She was committed to her people and never swayed from doing such that. In saying that,
one of the ways people showed their love and to show her greatness it was represented in portraits.
Portraiture of Queen Elizabeth I illustrates an evolution of her reign over England and Ireland in the
years of 1558 1603. Early portraits of young Elizabeth showcase what is going on her life or what is
important to her at that specific time. Objects such as prayer books and status clothing would be
displayed in the earlier portraits. Later portraits of Elizabeth also showcase her life and the importance

David Lachapelle Essay
The work of David LaChapelle can be seen everywhere you turn, be it on a magazine rack, album
cover, advertisement, or even a music video. Dubbed the New Surrealist , LaChapelle s vivid,
colorful, bizarre, and humorous images have been admired by millions and have made him one of the
most famous photographers alive today. Since the start of his professional career, LaChapelle s work
has attracted the attention of many other artists, celebrities, journalists, and regular people. I first
noticed his work on advertisements in magazines several years ago. I immediately felt drawn to his

Impact Of Imperialism In Korea
Japanese Imperialism in Korea and Korea s Police/Military Era As I stood on a mountain pass, looking
down on the valley leading to Inch Con, I recalled these words of my friend. The Ôstrong hand of
Japan was certainly being shown here. I beheld in front of me village after village reduced to ashes.
Destruction, thorough and complete, had fallen upon it. Not a single house was left, and not a single
wall of a house. (F.A Mackenzie). Japan did many brutal and harsh things while colonizing Korea.
Imperialism is when another nation forcefully takes control of another nation. In the 19th and 20th
century, many European powers were trying to get colonies in countries in Africa and Asia. In order to
do so, they needed to imperialize countries. Japan was the first Asian nation to defeat western
countries trying to imperialize them. During the 1900 s, Japan ... Show more content on

Japanese farmers, but all land rentals were unofficial. In 1906, however, the Japanese were slowly
starting to take over the Korean government. That meant that they were changing laws as well. In
1906, all of the Korean landlords became tenant farmers overnight. Inversely, all the Japanese farmers
turned into landlords. This was due to the Japanese working in the government twisting the law so that
Japanese farmers were at a great advantage. After that, many Japanese farmers immigrated to Korea to
start farms. In 1908, the Japanese population in Korea was at 126,000. In 1911, after Japan had fully
taken control of Korea, the Japanese population in Korea was at 210,000. In 1910, Japan owned about

The Law And Ethics Of An Mba Program
More institutions of higher education are adding law and ethics curriculum to the lists of required
courses. After the legal and ethical scandals that occurred at companies such as Enron and accounting
firms such as Arthur Andersen, as well as the Ponzi schemes of Bernie Madoff, this seems like a
natural course of action for most colleges and universities. Because society uses law and ethics to
mold business, it makes sense to teach these in institutions of higher learning, but should these classes
also be taught in high school when young adults are getting their feet wet in the world of business? It
is important to study law and ethics in an MBA program because a comprehensive set of laws is not
enough, ethical relativism and religion lessen the public s ability to define right and wrong, and
elementary schools only teach obedience to laws and rules.
While society enforces thousands upon thousands of rules and laws, understanding the ethics and
reasons behind enactment of the laws are still missing in society. Immanuel Kant said it best in the
Categorical Imperative when he said, All maxims as proceeding from our own [hypothetical] making
of law ought to harmonize with a possible kingdom of ends (Kant, 2009, p. 75). If ethics is not being
taught in conjunction with lawmaking, then people will never understand the reasoning behind the
creation of the laws under which they must live. Ethics and law are deeply intertwined law is founded

Business Analysis On Business Communication
Although much associated with business still relies on face to face communication, technology has
taken its place in business to business communication practices as being reliable, effective, and
efficient. Whether discussing a major decision with an executive level officer, starting a new company
in search of product and distribution, or informing a department that layoffs may occur, the
communication process remains the same. A purpose defines the reason a process begins. The initiator,

(About.com, 2011). On a good day, walking into a business to solicit a different product, service, or
partnership opportunity means that a decision maker has been spoken with and an additional
appointment may be established so that decision maker can have more available time to hear what is
being pitched. More than likely, however, a card or name will be collected with contact information
and that particular individual must create a method of re contacting those potential business
opportunities at a later time. Through the use of VOIP, or voice over Internet provider as a less
expensive way for a business to have phone services, a call is made to create a relationship that could
potentially provide additional opportunities. The salesperson acts as the sender with the purpose of
selling his company s products or services. The receiver should be the decision making contact that

Golden Age Research Paper
In the 19th Century, The Jews Muslims and Christians living in Spain experienced a golden age. The
golden age was a time of great peace and prosperity among the nations due to the Muslim s
acceptance, accommodation and peaceful relations with the Jews and Christians. This golden age
began when the Muslims began conquering the Iberian Peninsula in 711. When Islam was first
founded, it was only practiced within the borders of Arabia(modern day Saudi Arabia). However, the
Muslims began converting large numbers of indigenous tribes, who resided across North Africa as
well as in Asia, and in this way, Islam started to spread. The people of these indigenous tribes were

For the first time since their exile from Jerusalem in the year 70CE, they had the opportunity to
participate fully in society. The Muslims were tolerant rulers who wanted all their citizens, whether
Muslim, Jewish or Christian to participate in the life of the new commonwealth they had founded. In
wake of the new tolerant Muslim leaders, a golden age of Jewish immigration dawned in Al Andalus.
Middle Eastern as well as North African Jewish immigrants poured into Al Andals by the thousands.
At the Jewish population s peak in the 10th century, Al Andalus was by far the largest Jewish centre in
all of Europe. Jews were very well integrated and had phenomenal access to the highest levels of
power. The Jews were especially well integrated into economic and social life, regularly doing
business and interacting with Muslims. Society was very open and Muslims rulers were not threatened
by the minorities and were accommodating. Al Andalus, once a mere outpost of the Islamic kingdom
becomes a bustling centre of European trade. Viking ships from the North sea as well as merchants
from the Islamic capital of Baghdad bring an influx of goods to Al Andalus. The Jewish merchants
brought treasures from far and wide and the honesty of the Muslims helped to regulate the market.
This example demonstrates how coexistence lead to extremely notable achievements. Within 1
century, the Muslims and Jews built a civilization that exceeded every other European country. By the
8th century s end, the land was the most productive, populated and diverse in all of Europe, staying so
for many centuries. During this prosperous period, Al Andalus was exporting and importing more than
double the amount of goods than its neighbors. Trade with other European countries was unmatched

Workplace Violence In The Workplace
INTRODUCTION:
Violence in the workplace has become a major safety and health issue. Workplace violence is not
limited to homicide. This type of violence includes behaviors and circumstances that threaten an
employee s physical safety; such as: verbal threats, sexual or physical harassment, coercion, behavior
changes, intimidation, stalking, telephone/email harassment, and history of aggression. Workplace
violence incidents have tripled in the last decade, and it is now the fastest growing category of murder
in the United States. It is also the second leading cause of death for women in the workplace (Bureau

Additionally, Mr. Staver states that other identifiers are dramatic and unreasonable demands occur
when the individual is constantly impatient and expects an immediate response to the task, and or
project (Staver, 2012). Also, Staver stressed the importance of recognizing personal insults and threats
and notifying management of said gestures so that the organization maybe on alert and preventive
measure can be implemented (Staver, 2012). There are other identifiers of potential workplace
violence such as: an individual who have difficulty getting along with others, making inappropriate
remarks, always upset about everything and everyone. Also, there are individual who the company and
employee have no clue about because the perpetrator is an outsider, not an employee of the
organization. In this incidence, it is quite difficult to identify the potential threat. Therefore, the
organization must have a program in place to handle offsite threats that may invade the company and
cause violence and/or harm to its employees. The program(s) designed within that particular
organization will better assist that company in the scope of recognizing and avoid potential workplace
violence occurrences.

Britain s cooperation with the trade route involved the confiscation of the West African Coast and the
establishment of unkempt prisons to hold enslaved Africans awaiting purchase by overseas traders. In
1660 and 1663, Trade Acts passed in the British parliament, implying the dependency of overseas
slave traders on British goods, paralleling the rise of the sugar industry and attempts to establish
influence regarding governmental economic policies in line with slave trader interests. Money earned
from slave trade plantations aided in the generation of commerce for the British economy and an
increased development of new financial institutions. Subsequently, trading vessels, primarily
constructed in Liverpool, contained trade goods such as guns, ammunition, rum and cloth were

Through the text we have in infer a lot and there were many clues in the story that helped us infer that
this story was about divorce. We have to infer the conflict and what the character are like. They must
be not getting along at this point in life because she is doing something behind his back and the mom
thinks he has also done things behind her back. The same things go with the dialog. Although there is
not much dialog in the story, when there is, it is really meaningful and it serves a good purpose in the
story and it helps advance the plot. If there was no dialog the story would not have ended up the way it
did. For example, He laughs. Momma, you forgot me already! I think if the little boy would never had

the reader with a lot questions and things that we had to infer. According to the class requirements,
inference and dialog follow the requirements but others don t. Inference and dialog fit the flash fiction

than in Tennessee Williams masterpiece, A Streetcar Named Desire. The world changed unalterably
upon the birth of the Kowalski s son, and no one is safe from the repercussions. Using Bert Cardullo s
writings from Theatrical Reflections: Notes On Form and Practice of Drama and close readings of the
text, one can examine each characters relationship to the birth of Stella and Stanley s child and how it
affects their own small worlds, and their own childlike traits and personalities. Instead ... Show more

Stanley Kowalski is a petulant child with a red hot temper, unable to control himself. He is primal,
even feral, and in the end just that a child at the breast of his mother: It is not by chance that, as
Stanley goes to placate his wife on the stairs at the end of the play, the child, whom Eunice has placed
in Stella s arms, stands between them. Even as he kneels here, so too did Stanley kneel on these stairs
in intimacy with Stella, his face pressed to her belly, at the end of Scene 3. (Cadullo 13) Blanche even
sees it, through her mask of imagination and falsity, she calls Stanley out on his rage, and sees him for
what he truly is: What in the name of heaven are you thinking of! What s in the back of that little boy
s mind of yours? (Williams 37) Originally intended as an insult of Stanley s intelligence, the reader
may interpret it as what can only be the uncovering of Stanley s most shameful secret: that under the
tight white muscle shirt and sheen of sweat, there is a frightened little boy throwing a tantrum over the
smallest piece of cake. Stanley Kowalski is the toddler on the playground who screams at the other
children, and hits them for sport: Don t ever talk that way to me! Pig Polack disgusting vulgar greasy!

Mothers Beach Descriptive Essay
Mothers beach holds a dear place in my heart. It s where mothers bring their children knowing the
calm, cool waves will allow their young to experience all the joy a beach can provide. I had been there
many of times in my short but happy life. At the time I had just been faced with all the excitement that
comes with celebrating a birthday, I was now the big 5 years old. I thought I was ready to take on the
world, sadly, I was unaware of all the seemingly innocent dangers out there in the world. My family
and I were at Mothers beach trying to reminisce in all the memories we had of Long Beach. In a
couple days, we would be moving half way across the U.S. to Tulsa, Oklahoma making this our last
trip to our beloved beach. It would be a break ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was unusual to see so many people there, but school had just gotten out for the summer and people
were ready to soak up the sun. It was hard to find a place that wasn t right next to someone, but we
eventually managed to find a good spot. We laid out our towels and got right to undressing down to
our swimsuits. We dumped out our bag full of beach supplies and my mom began to lather everyone
up with sunscreen. Me being the unluckiest person ever, am as pale as a porcelain doll and the most
likely to burn. This required me to be smothered in sunscreen even more than the rest. Now that we
had our ghostly white sheen and smelled like chemically produced summer, we were ready to begin
our beach activities. My mom being the munificent person she is, promised if we behaved, we could
get ice cream from our most beloved ice cream shop. We unanimously decided we would be on our
best behavior. We had the same order every time we went 1 cookie dough on a waffle cone, 1 mint
chocolate chip in a cup, 1 cookies and cream on a regular cone, and 1 plain vanilla also on a waffle
cone. My sisters would always tease me saying it was boring to get vanilla (even though they too
would sometimes get vanilla). My sister Shannon and I started to build sand castles while my mom
and Amanda laid out on their towels. Everytime we went to the beach, we would try our absolute
hardest to make tremendously sized sand castles. It was

Little Grand Canyon Research Paper
The Grand Canyon tops many travelers ultimate bucket list. In a country with countless scenic views,
there s no shortage of the breathtaking sights. While it may be a small fraction of that other canyon in
Arizona, there s a Little Grand Canyon right in the heart of south Georgia. Georgia s Providence
Canyon is located about 150 miles south of Atlanta, and is part of a 1,003 acre outdoor recreation area.
Whether you re wandering the Peach State or embarking on a canyon tour of the U.S., Georgia s Little
Grand Canyon is worth a top spot on your travel list. The federal government decided not to make
Providence Canyon a national park. They must not realize the repercussion of doing so. Tourist,
educational information, and the environment wildlife each have effective outcomes on making this
canyon a national park. Tourism is travel for pleasure; also the theory and practice of touring, the
business of attracting, accommodating, and entertaining tourists, and the business of operating tours.
Tourist would provide an economic boost for Providence Canyon, since the canyon provides them a
beautiful place to tour. Providence Canyon needs the benefits to ... Show more content on

Georgia s Little Grand Canyon was created by the erosion of soft multicolored soils. The water from
seas, ancient streams, coastal beaches, and deltas have somehow amazingly made this beautiful
canyon. Erosion has exposed the geological records of several million years within these colorful
walls. Believe it or not, but the walls of Providence Canyon has 43 different colors. The minerals have
stained the sediments to create a display of several colors that range from white to various shades of
pink, red, yellow, purple, black and brown. The erosion has also led to alluring rock formation.
Erosion at the head of the canyon caused the length of it to differ from other canyons. Humans have

Extracting Natural Gas From Shale Formations
Natural gas produced from shale formations has become important in the energy supply market for the
United States. Extracting natural gas from shale reserves was not considered feasible until recently
because of low permeability of the shale rock formations. New developments in hydraulic fracturing
technology have led to a boom in domestic shale gas production. The United States has experienced
economic benefits through revenue and job creation in predominantly rural areas while increasing the
energy security of the U.S. by decreasing dependence on foreign oil supplies. However, the
resounding question remains: at what cost?
Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a process used to extract natural gas from deep shale reserves
5,000 8,000 feet below the ground surface. This process allows energy companies to access previously
unavailable energy sources in states that have deep oil and gas reserves. The fracking process involves
pumping a mixture of water, chemicals and sand at high pressure into a well, which fractures the
surrounding rock formation and props open passages that allow natural gas to freely flow from rock
fractures to the production well. Once the well is developed, the carrying fluid can then flow back to
the ground surface along with the gas.
Shale gas has become embroiled in controversy over alleged impacts on public health and the
environment. Some segments of the public have become deeply suspicious of the veracity and motives
of gas companies. These

Sleepy Lagoon Trial
The Sleepy Lagoon Murder Trial was one of the most shocking displays of injustice carried on by the
court of California. The trial focused on the murder of twenty two year old Jose Diaz who had been
beaten and stabbed near a reservoir known as Sleepy Lagoon. Sleepy Lagoon had always been a place
that comminity and gang members frequently visited located in East Los Angeles. On the evening of
August 1, 1942 two rivaling gangs had a violent confrontation between one another. This led to future
events which would result in the murder of Jose Diaz. The Los Angeles Police department held 600
youths in custody as well as charged 2 people for the murder of Diaz. The court held 22 people

Around 600 Mexican Americans who fit the term zoot suiters ( a person who wears ballooned pants
and long coats) were rounded up in efforts to catch the criminal. The court argued that their look alone
was enough to prove they were deliquents in one way or another and should be held responsible for
their actions. Altough appearances do distinguish gang members from regular civilians the mass
gathering of around 600 Mexicans for one individuals murder shows the lack of professional
expirence. It also serves as a pedestal to say that these police offers weren t looking for an individual

accountable for a crime based on their looks let alone get so many people of one ethnic group
involved just because they look like they are from a gang. On January 12, 1943 in the case of People

The Tragedy Of Socrates As A Tragic Hero
In the era of the Enlightenment, many philosophers were creating their own understanding of how the
individuals of society function and the purpose of existence; one of these philosophers was Socrates.
Spending majority of his life in Athens, Socrates exercised his freedom of speech, for which, he had
vocalized his opinions to the people of Athens of the authority of the government and whether if the
they are suitable to help society function in a positive light (Brumbaugh 230). However, in the
development of government, the conservative government of Athens charged Socrates with religious
treason and the corruption of the youth of Athens (Brumbaugh 228). During the trial, Socrates
personally defended himself in court with a jury of over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an example of his dramatic writing, Plato emphasizes on the portrayal of Socrates addressment to
the jury before they conclude their verdict on the case, in which, Socrates says:
From me you will hear the whole truth, though not, by Zeus, gentlemen, expressed in embroidered and
stylized phrases like theirs, but things spoken at random and expressed in the first words that come to
mind, for I put my trust in the justice of wat I say, and let none of you expect anything else. (Cooper
21)
Although this is a small portion of the speech, Socrates bases his speech on the truth, in which, he
does not try to deceive the jury into believing that he is an ignorant philosopher, but that his beliefs are
indifferent than those of the society and that punishing him on those terms is an injustice. This creates
a sympathetic connection to the audience as Plato shows that Socrates was not malicious or in any
form had dramatic reaction from the trial as he was acceptance of his fate, in which, the jury would
decide and only asked that they would take his truthful speech into consideration while voting on the
verdict. With the continuation of the aspect that Plato dramatized the trial of Socrates to form am
emotional connection with the audience, giving context of Socrates life adds to

The Effects Of Salmon Farming On The Salmon Population Essay
Introduction
Fish, one of our most important sources of high quality protein, provides some 16% of the animal
protein consumed by the world s population, (Food Agriculture Organization, FAO, of the United
Nations, 1997). Our responses towards a growing demand for fish led to a boom in the salmon
farming industry (Naylor, et al., 1998). Unfortunately, the consequences of salmon farming outweigh
the value that comes with it. Even though salmon farming is steadily becoming more sustainable,
salmon farming is not a suitable and environmentally sound way of producing food due to the
negative issues salmon farming has caused in the environment, the salmon population, and the health
of humans.
Salmon farming effects to wild salmon population
Scientists of various fields have found that escaped salmon from fisheries have negatively impacted
the salmon population. The gradual increase of salmon farming has led to a higher rate of escaped
salmon reaching local ecosystems. As farmed salmon escape through weather events, poor
containment, careless handling, etc. the local ecology changes dramatically. In McGinnity s study
(2003), farmed salmon have been found to breed poorly and have difficulty surviving in comparison
to wild salmon. The study was carried out in Western Ireland and highlighted the behavioral
differences between wild salmon against various generations of hybrid salmon. It was found that
farmed salmon and hybrid salmon (various mixed farmed wild breeds) carry the

England and Wales have the same education system, unlike Northern Ireland and Scotland whos education system are different. In England and Wales education system consists of primary, secondary, further and higher education. Compulsory education last for 11 years and children are legally required to start attending school after their fifth birthday (or earlier) and finish it somewhere at the age of 16. Most pupils transfer from primary school to secondary school at age of 11 or 12. In Great Britain, the most common thing students to after obtaining GCSE is staying in school or attending college for a two year A level course. A levels are most commonly studied between the ages 16 18. Completing 3 or 4 A levels allows students to continue their education by applying for degree courses at universities and with that gaining higher education. There is a similar situation in USA for students who finished secondary education by obtaining highschool diploma and would like to attend college or university. To achieve that, USA students have to attend undergraduate schools that offer either a two year degree also known as associate degree or a four year degree called bachelors degree in a specific course of study called major. Students who finished four year degree program and gained bachelors degree can continue their education in graduate schools. There they can pursue one of two types of diplomas. The first one is called master s degree and it usually takes two years of study after which you are considered to be highly specialized in a specific field. The second type of diploma available for students who have bachelors degree is PhD or a doctorate degree which usually takes 3 6 years to complete. In Australia, students who want to continue their education can go either to TAFE (Technical and Further Education) institutions or they can finish senior high school level studies (years 11 and 12 of education ) and obtain VCE ( Victorian ... • 3. Hunger of Memory, by Richard Rodriguez Understanding Cultural Communication Language is a communication method that makes everything easy to communicate with others. The language barrier is the biggest challenge and hurdle of most people whom their English is a second language. Growing up in a family with parents that only speak another language could be viewed very similarly to a double edged sword. This challenge with society forces people to learn the English language. Although there a lot of difficulties with the second language, eventually the transition between both languages would become easier by time and more practice. Starting to be able to comprehend the English language is the best way overcomes this barrier. Although these challenges were not easy to overcome, persistence, dedication and hard work would facilitate everything. Despite the fact that language is considered the biggest barrier, culture comes as a second harder barrier in means of communication. Effective communication with people of different cultures is especially challenging. Culture on the other hand, provides people with ways of thinking, seeing and hearing and, then understands the things around. Thus, the same word can mean different things to people from different cultures, even when they talk the same language. Stella Ting Toomey describes how culture involves with cultural understanding where ach culture has its own rules about proper behavior which affect verbal and nonverbal communication. • 4. Analysis Of Why Millennials CanT Grow Up The Millennial Generation is earning 20 percent less than the Generation X and the Baby Boomers. Psychotherapist at NYU (according to the university s website), Brooke Donatone argues in her article, Why Millennials Can t Grow Up that millennials experience extended adolescence that delays adulthood (Donatone 1). The author believes that the reasons for that happening are parents by their helicopter parenting and the economy because there are less high paying jobs that allow millennials to be financially independent. Throughout the article, Donatone explains that there is evidence on how it is not millennials fault that they are experiencing delayed adulthood. Therefore, it is safe to assume that her intended audience are the parents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His article also contrasts Donatone s second flaw of unprofessional tone because he continuously stays professional and mindful of his audience that comes from world of business professionals. Donatone proposes that the reason for millennials struggles with adulthood, like working, dealing with people or even doing laundry is caused by helicopter parenting; however, she uses Amy, a girl that comes from a family with moderate wealth, to wrongly generalize that all millennials come from similar background. It is especially inappropriate and unfair to generalize about this topic because she talks about such a big and diverse group that is millennial generation, and not everyone comes from the same background. Donatone shows that Amy comes from middle class family when she says She finally had to dump the part time job, was still unable to do laundry, and often stayed up until 2 a.m. to complete her homework because she didn t know how to manage her time without her parents ... (Donatone 1). In order for someone to be able to drop their job they need someone that can help with their financial needs and wants, therefore it is safe to assume that Amy comes from a family with moderate wealth that is able to support those needs and wants. The author s moment when she generalizes that all millennials are like Amy and come from similar background is when she states It s easy to generalize an entire population by its ... He was born in Pella in 356 B.C. and took over his fathers kingdom at twenty. He started making a military campaign through Asia ,northeast Africa, and by the age of thirty he created one of the largest empires of the ancient world. Strethching to Greece to egypt into northeast India and Pakistan, his empire was growing at an alarming rate.Alexander s defeat of the Persian Empire removed the block that had prevented the spread of Greek settlements into the East. though no evidence suggests that Alexander himself promoted a policy of Hellenization, Greek culture undoubtedly penetrated into western Asia as the result of his conquest, and Asia, up to the Mesopotamian, became a part of the Greek world. This is Alexander s best achievement. While it is clear that his father had a great part on his life, but Alexander himself wanted to see his success as driven by his forces. • 6. The Effect Of Folic Acid On The Middle Of The 1800s Toward the middle of the 1900s, a compound called folic acid was synthesized to mimic a compound in the pteroylgutamate family, known as Folate. Folate is found naturally in foods such as kale, spinach and other leafy greens, but folic acid does not exist in nature and must be artificially created. This artificial substance had never before been used in the human diet, but in 1998 the Food and Drug Agency legislated that widely consumed products such as breads, cereals, and many other commercial grains be fortified with this compound. The driving force for this legislation came as a result of the wide spread prevalence of neural tube defects, spinabifida and other developmental issues resulting from deficiency. Although Folate is widely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Folate has been used for 40 years to successfully reduce the risk of neural tube defects and related issues, there are still lingering concerns about its safety such as the masking effect it may have on populations at risk for or already deficient in vitamin B12. The recommended amount of Folate intake based on the RDAs is set at around 400mcg DFE 600mcg DFE depending on gender and pregnancy status.1 This very level was set in order to achieve a status that prevents deficiency in the general population and neural tube defects in infants, while remaining low enough to avoid the potential masking effect Folate can have upon B12. Folate amounts higher than 5000mcg certainly can alleviate megaloblastic anemia when the presumed cause of anemia is a Folate deficiency.1 However, if Folate is not the underlying deficiency, these high levels can also attract medical attention away from a B12 deficiency, allowing neurological damage to become permanent. These risks extend further into the realm of neurological function due to the role of Folate and B12 as cofactors in the CNS, where high levels of Folate and low levels of B12 could result in reduced Methionine and elevated Homocysteine concentrations. Methionine plays a vital role in numerous methylation reactions throughout the body that are essential to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After analysing market drivers, demand and consumer behaviour, Pharmaceutical firms may choose the most strategic mode of entry to enter a market. The market entry mode is strategic and is regarded as a major factor in the Internationalisation process (Morschett et al.,2015, p.323). As illustrated below, the International market entry model outlines that Pharmaceutical firms may enter foreign markets through Exports/Imports, Subsidiaries, Mergers/Acquisitions, Joint ventures, or Licensing. Figure 2.4 An international market entry model for pharmaceutical companies. (Adapted from Javalgi Wright,2003, p.277). Joint Venture A joint venture is characterised by the need to achieve a business transaction while remaining separate from each other. Each firm maintains its resources and independence while engaging in an activity, with the objective of achieving certain objectives. The need for joint ventures in the Pharmaceutical industry may be characterised by the need to reduce high R D costs and by so doing, share costs through common equity (Roijakkers Hagedoon,2005, p.8). • 8. The Security Has Become A Hot Button Issue National security has become a hot button issue here in the United States. Rather than representing other nations, opposing forces represent different ideologies. Enemy personnel may appear as anyone or come from anywhere, even from the United States. These enemies have a potential to acquire dangerous weapons and cause detrimental amounts of damage to our nation. To save the country from these extreme life threatening circumstances, where there is clear and specific evidence, torture is ought to be reasonable so as to spare innocent lives. Most people in a civilized nation disagree with torture. However, in compelling and threatening circumstances it may be allowed. Here is the reason, Many terrorist organizations take advantage of the situation and make an entryway for an assault. Without the usage of torture, it would take extra time and open doors for another strike later on. Through the use of torture, the CIA gained useful data by interrogating two terrorist group leaders, Khalid Sheik Mohammed and Abu Zubaydah, both of them gave significant data, after agents used torture. (Gordon n.p.) Zubaydah showed the way to Khalid Mohammed, who was found to be the mastermind behind 9 11 attacks. (Gordon n.p.) • 9. The Effects of Fear on the Society Essay The Effects of Fear on the Society Economics of population is, at its simplest, the study of a distribution of resources. As demographic and environmental factors change, the careful balance of supply and demand becomes altered. This change in the distribution of resources is usually a slow developing process, as rising fertility rates or environmental waste can decade by decade create a greater imbalance between what is available for consumption and what is needed for survival. Still, sudden unexpected events sometimes arise that greatly disrupt the environmental balance. Such was the case on September eleventh. On that morning, a hijacked airplane collided with one of the two towers that make up the World Trade Center. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clearly, the most debilitating effect of these terrorist acts was not the loss of thousands of floors of office space or four large aircrafts, but rather was the creation of fear in American society. Simply put, Americans do not know what will happen tomorrow. With the threat of a long impending war as well as the frightening possibility of more terrorist attacks to come, Americans are very unclear about their future. This fear can have a devastating effect on the economy, as businesses are less willing to invest and citizens are less willing to spend. The Economic Effects of Fear A disaster can hurt the economy in two ways. It can reduce supply, that is, it can interfere with the economy s ability to produce or it can reduce demand, as it makes people unwilling to buy the economy s products. Clearly the latter is the case today. The Conference Board, a New York business research group, announced that the index of consumer sentiment, a key measure of consumer confidence, dropped to 97.6 in September from a revised 114 in August, the biggest one month decline since the 1990 recession (US Confidence 1). Indeed, U.S. consumer confidence is at a fiveyear low (Despeignes 1). A Brief Note On Depression And The Depression Robyn Lawhorn July 11, 2015 Psychology 100 Mrs. Fischer Hours Worked: 22 Major depression, also known as unipolar depression, is one of the most common mental illnesses. Over nine million adults each year suffer from depression. Many people don t understand what depression really is, including myself until I did a lot of research over this subject. Major depression is more than a temporary state of being sad. It is a persistent state that can significantly impair an individual s thoughts, behavior, daily activities, and physical health. According to The Stanford School of Medicine, they said that major depressive disorder impacts all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups and can occur at any age. (Depression Research Clinic) Depression is a common, but serious illness that can occur in people of all ages; teenagers, adults, and older adults. Depression is a condition that reportedly affects one in every ten Americans at some point in their lives. The incidence of depression is actually higher in some states than others. • 12. The Habits Of The Polar Bear The polar bear is a large bear that lives in the north. They are the second largest bear in the bear family, and they have a unique white fur that differentiates them from the rest of the bears. This white fur is not only their unique characteristic, but also an amazing tool that God has given them so that they can survive in the wild. In order to better understand polar bear, one must understand their habits, their characteristics, and the dangers they are facing. First of all it s a question that everyone has, what do they eat? Their diet depends on high fat content in seal fat, this is one of the few stuff that can provide them enough calories to maintain their survival and to pass down their genes. They usually eat seals. Ringed seals are eaten by the females and little ones, and the males hunt the bearded seals, which are bigger than the ringed seals. In the good times when they have access to much food, they may eat only the bladder and the skin of the seal because that s the fattest part. However, when times are not that good, they will also eat other stuff if it is available. They will hunt whales if they are trapped, they will also accept small animals and any carcass within their reach. Unlike some bears, they don t have the habit of storing food. After they finish eating, they will leave the rest of the body for scavengers. Sometimes the scavengers might be other polar bears that failed their hunt. It is also very common for them to share food. Once, a scientist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Natural And Moral Liberty By John Winthrop Introduction. The new boundaries and opportunities in the seventeenth century grew and challenged an idea of religious liberty. The lifestyle of the first colonists in the New England was heavily influenced by religion and church. Settlers considered that success of social life depends on the obedience to God s will. The governor John Winthrop maintained and developed this idea. With a help of his Speech to the Massachusetts General Court in 1645, he summed up and explained an important idea of liberty. Winthrop did not only define a blessed way for a better life of the community but also clarified the role of citizens through the analogy of women s position in the society. His concept of natural and moral liberty turned up to be suitable and clear for the settlers. With a help of well built speech, Winthrop emphasized and explained correlation among society, authority, and God in the New World. Natural and Moral Liberty. However, in spite of this miserable positions Winthrop showed that women still had some choice, the woman s own choice makes such a man her husband; yet, being so chosen, he is her lord (Foner 31). By her early life she is recodnized, end of life, and by how she influences the world today. Joan of Arc was a great leader and woman. Jeanne d Arc, or Joan of Arc in English, was born in 1412 in Domrémy, France while they were at war with England. Of a poor farmer named Jacques d Arc she was the daughter and her mother Isabelle or Romée. Her mother taught her how to work at home and on the farm. About God and the Catholic Church she only ever learned. When she hit the age of thirteen, she started hearing voices and having visions. In a few of her visions were Saint Michael and Saint Catherine. To help fight for France against the English she believed that they were all telling her. At sixteen years of age, she was forced into a marriage by her father after taking a vow of chastity, so she went to the court and they said that she would not be compelled to marry. Joan of Arc was an extremely stubborn and strong willed woman from an early age who would do what she thought was right and what needed to be done. Alfred Prufrock , the overall mood and tone in the poem reflect the speaker s opinions of the time it was written in. An interesting way to look at this poem is to assume that the author used the character of Alfred Prufrock to explore his own attempt of trying to make sense of the rapidly changing, confusing, and gloomy world in which he lived. So, we can safely assume that trying to make sense of the outside world is a recurring motif in this poem. This can be seen by looking at both the poem as a whole, as well as the quote chosen for analysis. By choosing to use nature imagery, such as Combing the white hair of the waves blown back , the author depicts the speaker s need to retreat to nature in order to seek a peaceful spot to reflect on his choices and try to ... When the speaker says: And indeed there will be time / To wonder, Do I dare? and, Do I dare? / , we get a sense that the mysterious object of romantic interest he refers to does not actually know how the speaker feels about them. We also get a sense that the speaker is anxious that if he, in fact, expresses his feelings, he might be rejected. After the legal and ethical scandals that occurred at companies such as Enron and accounting firms such as Arthur Andersen, as well as the Ponzi schemes of Bernie Madoff, this seems like a natural course of action for most colleges and universities. Because society uses law and ethics to mold business, it makes sense to teach these in institutions of higher learning, but should these classes also be taught in high school when young adults are getting their feet wet in the world of business? It is important to study law and ethics in an MBA program because a comprehensive set of laws is not enough, ethical relativism and religion lessen the public s ability to define right and wrong, and elementary schools only teach obedience to laws and rules. While society enforces thousands upon thousands of rules and laws, understanding the ethics and reasons behind enactment of the laws are still missing in society. Immanuel Kant said it best in the Categorical Imperative when he said, All maxims as proceeding from our own [hypothetical] making of law ought to harmonize with a possible kingdom of ends (Kant, 2009, p. 75). In 1891, he became the sole owner of Coca Cola. It was when Candler took over that one of the most innovative marketing techniques was invented. He started passing out coupons for a free Coke. The goal was for people to try the drink, like it, and buy it later on. Candler also decided to spread the word of Coca Cola by posting logos on calendars, posters, notebooks and bookmarks to reach to a wider range of customers. It was one step in making Coca Cola a national brand. A controversial move on the part of Candler was to sell Coca Cola syrup as a patent medicine, claiming it would get rid of fatigue and headaches. • 45. Extracting Natural Gas From Shale Formations Natural gas produced from shale formations has become important in the energy supply market for the United States. Extracting natural gas from shale reserves was not considered feasible until recently because of low permeability of the shale rock formations. New developments in hydraulic fracturing technology have led to a boom in domestic shale gas production. The United States has experienced economic benefits through revenue and job creation in predominantly rural areas while increasing the energy security of the U.S. by decreasing dependence on foreign oil supplies. However, the resounding question remains: at what cost? Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a process used to extract natural gas from deep shale reserves 5,000 8,000 feet below the ground surface. This process allows energy companies to access previously unavailable energy sources in states that have deep oil and gas reserves. The fracking process involves pumping a mixture of water, chemicals and sand at high pressure into a well, which fractures the surrounding rock formation and props open passages that allow natural gas to freely flow from rock fractures to the production well. Once the well is developed, the carrying fluid can then flow back to the ground surface along with the gas. Shale gas has become embroiled in controversy over alleged impacts on public health and the environment. Some segments of the public have become deeply suspicious of the veracity and motives of gas companies. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effects Of Salmon Farming On The Salmon Population Essay Introduction Fish, one of our most important sources of high quality protein, provides some 16% of the animal protein consumed by the world s population, (Food Agriculture Organization, FAO, of the United Nations, 1997). Our responses towards a growing demand for fish led to a boom in the salmon farming industry (Naylor, et al., 1998). Unfortunately, the consequences of salmon farming outweigh the value that comes with it. Even though salmon farming is steadily becoming more sustainable, salmon farming is not a suitable and environmentally sound way of producing food due to the negative issues salmon farming has caused in the environment, the salmon population, and the health of humans. Salmon farming effects to wild salmon population Scientists of various fields have found that escaped salmon from fisheries have negatively impacted the salmon population. The gradual increase of salmon farming has led to a higher rate of escaped salmon reaching local ecosystems. As farmed salmon escape through weather events, poor containment, careless handling, etc. the local ecology changes dramatically. In McGinnity s study (2003), farmed salmon have been found to breed poorly and have difficulty surviving in comparison to wild salmon. The study was carried out in Western Ireland and highlighted the behavioral differences between wild salmon against various generations of hybrid salmon.
