Malvolio And Olivia
In Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare Sir Andrew Aguecheek s, a knight, and Malvolio s, the
Countess s steward, fragile dream of courting Countess Olivia is a hopeless notion. The Knight is an
opportunistic party animal. Olivia is disgusted by his personality and his drinking habits. Furthermore,
he does not have the sensitive nature that she longs for in a man. Instead, Aguecheek is only interested
in the Countess s beauty, wealth, and the opportunity she presents to rise in social rank. Therefore,
Andrew s chances to woo Olivia are futile as he only views her as a chance for a better life. Malvolio
looks to marry the Countess for similar reasons as Aguecheek; thus, making flattering Olivia an
unlikely concept. Additionally, the Steward

Self-Presentation Vs. Impression Management
Self Presentation Versus Impression Management There is no surprise that the way a person presents
himself to others impacts how they will respond to him. Most often, people will attempt to present
themselves in a positive manner in order to gain friends, likes and comments on social media, and
even a romantic relationship. In order to achieve their ideal image of how they want others to perceive
them, people will attempt to reconstruct their bodies through the forms of surgeries, makeup, and style
of clothing, as well as engaging in various activities that match their ideal image (Kassin, Fein,
Markus, 2013). There are two ways people accomplish this, which are self presentation and
impression management. Self presentation involves the different methods people use to present
themselves, while impression management is altering the truth of who the person actually is in order
to create a favorable impression, and there are various techniques and motivations behind each of
these methods of controlling other peoples perceptions.
Self Presentation Tactics Self presentation involves the person s conscious decision of how he wants
to present himself, and this image can be a more professional, more serious, or even more strict
demeaner. According to Johann Marek, every experience. . . is able to function as psychological quasi
content and, therefore, is able to be an object of a thought that is turned inwards (2012, p. 122). To
form the self presentation, the person must decide what impression he wants to present, and then he
must determine what actions he must take to reinforce this new image, and these actions are classified
as impression management. There are several ways in which people attempt to establish and maintain
a self presentation, which include ingratiation and self promotion (Kassin et al., 2013). In regard to
ingratiation, people desire to be likable and get along with other people (Kassin et al., 2013).
However, self promotion is when a person attempts to gain peoples respect (Kassin et al., 2013).
Impression Management Techniques Like self presentation, impression management attempts to
control how people view the individual, and this process involves the individual s actions. For

H-E-B Central Market Management Theory Analysis
Introduction of the Organization In 1994, the current President of H E B grocery Charles Butt opened
the first Central Market. The store was located in Austin. Mr. Butt reached out to John Campbell an
employee who had been with the company for over thirty years. Campbell started out at H E B as a
cashier and moved up the ranks to become an Innovation Officer at HEB. Central market is a division
under HEB Grocery which operates independently. The store remains privately owned by the Butt
family and is not traded openly on the stock market. The store was called an amusement park for food
lovers . The store took concepts from European food markets and brought them to Central Market.

At Central Market leaders encourage creativity by building a fun work environment. When the word
job comes to mind thoughts of obligation and meaningless tasks might come to mind. At Central
Market employees or Partners are working in an environment that allows for innovation and space to
grow. This is all because at Central Market the corporate structure is different from that of other major
corporations. Corporate plans are not passed down the corporate structure. Plans are created in store
by managers of the different departments. This corporate strategy gives managers at the store plenty of
room to research and develop new successful plans on their own. Managers at Central Market take
pride in their work, because it is something they have created. Central Market leaders inspire Partners
to find their own solutions through the training that is provided in the company. The training will be
discussed later on in depth, but simply put it is extensive and educates Partners on the day to day
operations of the company. Also at Central Market research and development is acceptable which
allows space to innovate. Leadership takes place throughout the corporate structure at Central Market.
The department managers are allowed to create their own plans. The managers at the store are
responsible for the success or failure of their plans. This provides managers at the store with

Memory In Frankenstein
Whether good or bad, past memories can either motivate people to change and grow or cause people
to remain stagnant. This is especially true for Madame Ranevsky, Lopakhin, and Firs from The Cherry
Orchard, by Anton Chekhov. The Cherry Orchard is a comedic play about a widow, Madame
Ranevsky, who is in the process of losing her beloved cherry orchard due to the debt that she has
collected following the emancipation of the serfs in 1861. Madame Ranevsky, Lopakhin, and Firs all
have different memories of the past. Both Madame Ranevsky and Firs have good memories of the past
Madame R with her childhood and Firs with his happy days of being a serf. Lopakhin, on the other
hand, has bad memories of the past because of being born into a family ... Show more content on

Madame Ranevsky does not want to cut down the orchard because of the memories it holds, regarding
her parents and childhood. Madame Ranevsky s shows her fondness for the estate when she points out
that her life would have no meaning if it were sold. In other words, the good memories memories of
her pure and happy childhood (12) is what is keeps Madame Ranevsky from accepting Lophakin s
plan. She feels that her memories would be ruined if the orchard is destroyed. In fact, Madame
Ranevsky acknowledges this attachment to orchard due to the good memories. She tells Lopakhin:
Oh! If only I could free my neck and shoulders from the stone that weighs them down! If only I could
forget my past! (12). Madame Ranevsky makes the point that her feelings regarding the past is
weighing her down and preventing her from accepting Lophakin s plan, so her debts can be relieved.
The past that Madame Ranevsky is referring to is her happy childhood memories at the orchard.
Hence, Madame Ranevsky s happy childhood memories attach her to the orchard and makes her not
want to lose it. Because of this conundrum, Madame Ranevsky essentially does not think about
anything else throughout the play b besides whether or not the orchard is going to be sold. Instead of
focusing on ways she could move on or try to save the

The Taming Of The Shrew Analysis
Performing Marriage with a Difference: Wooing, Wedding, and Bedding in The Taming of the Shrew
Amy L. Smith Even before the recent burgeoning of performance theory, The Taming of the Shrew
was of great interest to critics interested in role playing , identity, and theatricality. And because Kate s
taming and her performative speech both take place in a play within a play, Taming fostered a critical
interest in the intersection between performance and gender long before the phrase gender trouble
became commonplace. The recent debates about performance, culture, and theater sparked in part by
Judith Butler suggest, however, that it is time to revisit our analysis of gender and performance in this
play. Although there are a number of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ramer, they dramatize a marriage that leaves Kate and Petruchio negotiating not only gender
hierarchies but also love, sexuality, and parental demands. The Turning s particular reiteration of
marriage enacts a series of negotiations for power, none of which results in a marriage based on
simple domination and submission or perfect egalitarianism. By exaggerating husbandly dominance,
for example, Petruchio s performance draws our attention not to the power inherent in such dominance
but rather to its inefficacy. Thereby a conception of marriage that expects hierarchy and mutuality to
coincide effortlessly is questioned. Kate emphasizes the room marriage leaves for maneuverability by
enacting one that incorporates her wit and sexuality into her very performances of submission. Thus by
thinking of marriage (andthefemalesubjectionitrequires) as performative, we can read Kate s agency
through her reiteration of the role of wife a reiteration that stresses her reshaping of Petruchio and
their marriage. By using performance theory to contend that gendered institutions such as marriage
can and do change, I suggest that the very institutions which some critics suggest Kate is forced either
to accept or to escape are instead critiqued and perhaps even shaped by her.4 Indeed, one of the
reasons that the field of performance studies is so prevalent today and has so much to offer our
readings of this play is

Similarities and Differences Between Jefferson and Jesus
Based on the book A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines
In the book A Lesson Before Dying, there are multiple hints, clues and symbolism between Jefferson
and Jesus. The author, Ernest Gaines, draws a line between Jefferson and Jesus, but yet he creates his
character to be similar to Jesus in multiple ways. Some ways that Jefferson and Jesus are alike is that
they both die around Easter, but not by their choice. Both Jefferson and Jesus were unjustly convicted
and were not killed out of their own will. The deaths of these two men were both symbolic in many
ways and in some ways seem to be seen as a defeat to society and humanity. It happens second Friday

For Jefferson, he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. The defense argued that Jefferson was
innocent of all charges except being at the wrong place at the wrong time. (Gaines, 7). For Jesus,
Pontius Pilate asks the crowd he and Jesus were in front of, what they wanted to happen with him.
Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty.
Therefore I will have him punished and then release him. (Luke 23:22). In a way Pilate seems to be
defending Jesus like the defendant in Jefferson s trial, trying to see what the jury wants to happen, also
trying to bail him out; Though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. (Isaiah 53:9)
But this man has done nothing wrong (Luke 23:41). The fact that Mr. Gropé shot only Brother and
Bear was proof of Jefferson s innocence. (Gaines, 7). Both Jesus and Jefferson were recognized as
innocent by some and yet still received a death sentence. In the Old Testament, it was prophesized that
Jesus would have done nothing wrong but still be convicted, as well as Jefferson was convicted for
something he did not do. The death of these two men is symbolic in many ways. First, for Jefferson it
was a defeat for him standing for the blacks showing that they are equal and showing that there is not
a difference between blacks and whites and that they should not be treated as less because he is still
yet a man; I want you to show them that you are as much

How We Are Affected by People s Views of Nature
How people s views of nature have changed over time in the United States of America and how it has
affected us is a great question. Looking back through history makes it simple to answer this question.
People have very different opinions on to what their answer would be. Reading Out of the Woods
edited by Char Miller and Hal Rothman, Dust Bowl: The Southern Plains in the 1930s by Donald
Worstter, Nature s Metropolis: Chicago and the Great West by William Cronon, The Ecological Indian
by Shepard Krech III, and Something s Rising: Appalachians Fighting Mountaintop Removal by Silas
House makes it easy to comprehend and to answer how our views of nature have changed.
Looking all the way back to the early Indians, Shepard Krech III, the author of The Ecological Indian,
the Indians were not the one with nature individuals you thought they were. Most people that first
think of the Indians were one with nature because of movies and old folk tales. They were reckless
and took advantage of their environment. They used more resources than they clearly needed. The
Indians would waste their animals that they hunted. They caused many problems with the ecosystem
involving plants and animals triggered for the use of fire. They involved fire to clear the undergrowth
of the forest. Their reasoning to do this was because it made travel significantly easier, it made a better
area to hunt, and they used it as protection. Many individuals believed that the Indians were
committing a sin by

turned out that screen time was linked to poorer connectivity in areas that govern language and
cognitive control. Reading, on the other hand, was linked to better connectivity in these regions. Teens

Breastfeed In Health Care
Nutritional status is the balance between nutrient intake and nutrient requirements (Jarvis, 2012).
Optimal nutritional status is achieved when sufficient nutrients are consumed to support [the] body s
needs and any increased metabolic demands caused by growth, pregnancy, or illness (Jarvis, 2012).
Newborns require intense nutritional and metabolic needs as they increase 50% in their length in the
first year of life and double it by 4 years of age (Jarvis, 2012). Breast milk provides specific nutrition
that meets the infant s nutritional needs and there has been indisputable evidence from research that

And so, these are some reasons why breastmilk and breastfeeding are actively encouraged in health
care (DHHS, 2014). However, when a new mother refuses to breastfeed it is important for nurses to
explore the positive and negative aspects of breastfeeding from the mother s perspective (Barrientos
Bylaska Davies, 2015). This is because nurses spend the most time with mothers during the pre and
post partum period, as well as care for the infants following delivery (Barrientos Bylaska Davies,
2015). Therefore with effective communication and education on different options for feeding, and by
conducting frequent nutritional assessments of the infant the nurse can ensure adequate nutrition for
the infant. The Best Start 3 Step Breastfeeding Counseling Strategy can be used: by asking the mother
open ended questions, affirming her feelings, and educating the mother on the advantages for both the
mother and the child (Lazarov Evans, 2011). It is important to note that educating the mother with
information should not be overwhelming but should be in small amounts of information that is
relevant for the individual mother (yellowpdf). If the new mother still is undecided about
breastfeeding the nurse should continue to encourage the use of breastmilk, expressed milk, and
pumping (DHHS,

Essay On Lingua Franca
This paper looks at the aspects of a lingua franca and its role in societies. Also, the adaptation of other
languages vocabulary and usage into the English language, and how English has impacted vocabulary
and grammar structures on other languages. Furthermore, it talks about the effects on minority
languages due to the continuous spread and dominance of English. Later, it touches upon some
positive aspects that it has brought into modern day life across the globe.
English as a Lingua Franca
Over centuries, the English language has evolved from the roots of other ancient languages including:
Latin, the Germanic languages, French, even Greek. Their influences are clear to see in its vocabulary
and spoken dialects, which have also adopted words into its lexicon. Most of the aforementioned have
their complexities, causing difficulties for students and scholars to learn as second languages.
However, English is a much simpler language to comprehend due to its limited inflections and
familiarity of spoken and written words. Thus, it has become the lingua franca for people around the
world and is taught in the classrooms of most non native speaking countries. As we can see in most
areas of international business and education, the dominance of English is growing at a rapid pace that

The continual spread and reach of the language brings cause for concern for those who feel that the
impact it has on culture, history and traditions of minorities due to its tendency to dominate all aspects
of societies if allowed. However, the usage of the native English language has not gone unaffected due
to cross dialect influences and the need to accommodate others by using non conventional structures.
The positive aspects are too many to mention, especially in the modern times of globalization and I
believe that the case for English as a lingua franca may always be

Similarities Between Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas And...
Within Hunter S. Thompsons book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and the movie Easy Rider directed
by Dennis Hopper the involvement of drugs is important as the represent a greater picture of the
American values and where they are headed. The use of drugs is looked down upon by American
values due to the effects that it has on people, and the amount of deaths it leads to each year. The use
of drugs does not fit in with the American values of having the American Dream, which is represented
through having the perfect family, a house within the suburbs, and stable job. Drugs play no part in the
American Dream, but rebel against such a notion such as the American dream. Both the book and

The Quran, The Holy Text of Islam
Those who are free cannot fathom the value of small victories for those who live on a tether (Sasson
116). In contrast to the rights provided to the people of the United States of America, women in Saudi
Arabia have little to no freedoms and are treated as property. Saudi women are just as entitled to basic
human rights as other men and women around the world, which leads to the question of what
restrictions are placed upon them, and how these affect their lives. The second class status of women
in Saudi Arabia has a significant negative impact on their lives and results in the desperate actions
they take. The second class status of women in Saudi Arabia has a significant negative impact on their

The Quran, the holy text of Islam, states that men are the protectors of women, but the Saudi men use
it to justify their abuse of women; as a result, young boys are told that women are useless. The
translated version of the Quran states that Men ... are the protectors and maintainers of women
inasmuch ... As for those women from whose determined disobedience... remain apart from them in
beds; then ... beat them lightly ... Then, if they obey you ... do not seek ways against them (to harm

not permit them complete control of the women s lives. The Saudi men use the Quran to their
advantage and use it to justify their means of hurting the women.

Chinese Immigrants Of Los Angeles
Chinese Immigrants in Los Angeles The Chinese immigrant is one of the largest group in the United
States. Looking back the history of U.S., most people believe that the first Chinese immigrants came
to California during the Gold Rush period. Also, the Chinese community is one of the largest and
oldest ethnic group of Asian Americans. Some researchers consider the history of ethnic Chinese in
Southern California relates to three periods. In my opinion, I would like to say that there are four
major waves which the first wave begins in the 19th century, the second wave occurs in the 1940s to
1980s, the third wave happens during the 1980s, and the last wave arises in a recent decade year. The
first wave begins in the 19th century. There is evidence shows that the first Chinese immigrant in Los

Three Major Supreme Court Cases
The United States Supreme Court has heard many cases since it was established in 1788, but there
were three major cases that were most prominent in my view. Though every Supreme Court case
played a major role in history, the most prominent three were Palko vs. Connecticut, Brown vs. Board
of Education, and Miranda vs. Arizona. These three cases established some major things that we use
within the government to this day, and with that, these cases play a prominent role in United States
history.
The first major case, Palko vs. Connecticut, was heard by the Supreme Court in 1937 and involved
Frank Palko, a man whom was charged with second degree murder in the state of Connecticut. When
it was heard by the state of Connecticut, his conviction was appealed to seek higher degree conviction.
The state s local statute allowed the state to appeal criminal conviction, along with the defendant
himself. Setting aside the second degree murder conviction, the courts retried and convicted him of
first degree murder. After Palko s conviction, he brought an action to claim that the procedural statute
was unconstitutional because he claimed that it violated his 5th amendment guarantee against double
jeopardy. Palko fought for protection against double jeopardy to be a fundamental right, but his effort

The cause of elder abuse is multifaceted. Generally, a combination of psychological, social, and
economic factors, as well as mental and physical conditions of the victim and perpetrator contribute to
the occurrence of elder abuse Wagner, Greenberg, Capezuti, 2002 as cited on (Fulmer Greenberg,
2012). In the developing world family members provide 60% to 80% of long term care of their elderly
significant others (American Psychological Association, 2012). Consequently, the burden of providing
constant physical care needs such as toileting and bathing can be particularly stressful. The complexity
of providing care to a physically, cognitively or emotionally impaired elderly individual can also be
tremendous. Depression, confusion, Alzheimer s disease, or incontinence on the part of the aging
person can make care giving especially overwhelming ((American Psychological Association, 2012).
According to American Psychological Association (2006), in addition to providing in average 20
hours a week at home on care giving responsibilities, about 64% of those family caregivers work
either part time or full time out side of home. As a result, the caregivers often suffer from interrupted

the audience can interpret what Trier is presenting to them. Dogville, is often viewed and critiqued by
many as a cynical spin on how the United States is perceived. After all, this film is one of the easiest
ways to see how a director can use the many Brechtian techniques to keep the audience from being
absorbed in the film.
Trier places his actors within what the audience can observe to be a small town. He carefully lays out
a map of buildings and other areas on the floor of a huge, undecorated studio. The audience when
introduced to Dogville are able to see a bird s eye view of what the town looks like. The furniture and
props are real, but there are no walls to obscure activities within each defined area; only solid chalk
lines separating what is a house, or a garden, or a town hall. Consequently, the audience can see
anything and everything that is happening all over the town; they may see a character tending to their
garden in the background while the camera is focused on other characters.
For most viewers, myself included for the first time through, Dogville is an oddly presented film that

The Importance Of College Experience In College
Entering college and embarking on a new journey, everyone desires to have an ideal experience. This
desire is driven by what they see on television and in the movies. In college , everyone wants to get
good grades and make friends, but everyone s college experience is not the same. The college
experience differs for commuters and students who dorm on campus in the way their relative
independence from their families, allocate expenses, and time spent socializing. Students who dorm
gain independence, have no traveling expenses since they live on campus, and are more socially active
in campus life. Students, who dorm on campus gains a sense of independence. While living on campus
the student who dorm is responsible for their own well being. Some freshmen from the ages (17 19) ,
transitioning from High school to college are accustomed to relying on their parents a lot. Some
freshmen rely heavily too much on their parents that they never learn how to do their laundry. (Sharon
Jones) My parents always did my laundry for me. Are you suppose to put the whites with the colors .
Living on campus, no one is there to remind you of your responsibilities like constantly being told to
clean your or take care of you while you re sick. In college, whether you re an undergraduate student
living on campus or a graduate student no one is there to take care of you. In college general
independence, means no more rules and restrictions to follow at home. At home students who dorm is
free from rules such as curfews, and regulations from family members. Students who do live on
campus have fewer restrictions as long as they abide by campus rules. Some students who live on
campus have to occasionally take out loans to cover the expenses of housing and meal plans. Unless
some students are lucky or work hard enough to get a scholarship(s) that covers housing and meal
expenses. These loans can grow over time from interest. If student loans aren t paid right after college
can result in debt that can last you a long time to pay off. Across the country, students are taking on
increasingly large amounts of debt to pay for heftier education tuitions. (Times.com) This may result
in trouble, getting a loan for a car, house, or

Personal Identity In The Movie Finding Forrester
Identity is what defines a person, their personality, interests, and their ideals. For some people, it s
easy to show off their personality, but for others, and can be hard. Some people see it as a way for
people to criticize them based on who they are. In the movie, Finding Forrester, William Forrester is a
well known author for his popular book, yet he hides away in his apartment because he doesn t want
to be judged based on his work. This leads to struggles that William deals with all because he wants to
keep his identity hidden. A young boy named Jamal Wallace has a similar issue. He is academically
gifted, yet he doesn t show it off because he doesn t want to stick out from his friends. The two
eventually meet, become friends, and solve their issues together. Jamal helps William escape his
apartment, while William gives Jamal tips on what makes a good writer. Finding Forrester gives a
good lesson in being true to oneself and expressing personality. If someone is too self conscious about
their personality, it can be hard to keep their identity hidden, especially in uncomforting situations.
Some people feel more comfortable about who they are with certain people. In Finding Forrester,
there are a lot of instances that show how people feel safer talking about who they are with friends, or
family. Early on in the story, William and Jamal discover a bond between each other and soon become
good friends. This friendship that William and Jamal share created a trust between the

The Implementation of Magnetic Access Control Card...
1. Introduction
Access control is the restriction of access to a building or area and it can be achieved by different
means of physical security. Magnetic access control card system is one of the many ways of restricting
access to a building or area. According to Oke et al. (2009), magnetic access control systems are used
to control entry to a room or building and were developed to reduce prodigious amount of theft and
fraud.
Magnetic access control card security systems use smart cards which are small plastic cards made out
of Polyvinyl Chloride incorporating one or more integrated circuits within its thickness to store and
transact data (Hendry, 2007). Types of smart cards include Subscriber Identity Modules (SIM) cards,

There are entrances to the college which are not guarded by security personnel. There is no proper
barrier around the institution which makes the posting of security personnel at the main gates
insignificant. Trespassers gain access to the college residential areas and learning centres to vandalize
college property.
Trespassers cut the padlocks with bolt cutters and open them. Keys are duplicated and used to gain
access to restricted areas and they are habitually lost as they are relatively small in size. Once a key is
reported missing or duplicated, the door locking mechanism has to be replaced which costs the college
dearly as several locking points are replaced each year.
This research seeks to investigate the implementation of a magnetic access control card security
system within the SCOT community. It aims is to lessen the problems of security experienced in the
college.
Research Motivation
The motivation behind this research project is driven by the number of shortfalls of the security
system currently used at SCOT. There have been numerous security breach reports of the current
system and the breaches were attributed to the weaknesses of the current system.
3.1. Research Aims and Objectives
The aim of this research project is to investigate the implementation of magnetic card access control
security system within the SCOT community. Other objectives of this research project are as follows:

Collecting Coins Vs Stacking Bullion
Collecting Coins vs Stacking Bullion
Bullion (noun) physical precious metal valued by its content, weight, and market price.
Bullion Coin (noun) a coin struck and guaranteed by a government mint with a legal tender face value,
comprised of precious metal and kept as a store of value rather than used in day to day commerce.
A bullion coin typically sells for a premium (higher price) over the precious metal s spot price on
global commodities exchanges. Reasons include their comparative small size(s) to large 1,000 and 400
oz bullion bars and the costs associated with their manufacture, storage, and distribution. Bullion coin
sizes can vary from as small at 1 gram to a record breaking 1 tonne (32,150 troy ounces) weight.
The amount of a gold coin s premium for example (its price over the fluctuating spot price for gold)
also varies depending on the coin s type, weight, and the precious metal content. A gold collector coin
premium is also affected by prevailing supply and demand factors amongst coin collectors and coin
stores.
Bullion Round (noun) a coin like item struck by a private bullion mint, comprised of precious metal
and kept as a store of value rather than used in day to day commerce.
Bullion Bar (noun) an ingot struck by both private and government bullion mints, comprised of
precious metal and kept as a store of value rather than used in day to day commerce.

The Influence Of The Nose Hill
As I prayed and made an offering at the Nose Hill location, again I saw the land as I often do, as it was
before recent human influence. As I sat before the rock the fences and the sounds of the car in the
distance gave way to the wind. And as the wind came I could smell a camp fire and see the teepee atop
the east facing ledge about one kilometre south of the rock. And also with the wind came the bison,
stampeding over the hill coming for the rock with great anticipation to shed their winter coats and
graze along the hill. As they came they stormed around the rock with glee, hopping, kicking, shoving
for room against the large rocks in the heat of the day after their never ending wander across the
prairies. As a dog walker walked by with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The boy was fearing he might die atop the rock as his stomach grumbled, already hungry as the rest of
his family had been. It seemed all was lost when he saw a fox come out from a small patch of trees,
and tip toe past the buffalo and off into the night. After watching the stealth of the fox, he prayed to
the creator for a moment of being as stealthy as the fox. The little boy slid silently down from the
rock, and silently into the buffalo herd. His footsteps were so soft and subtle, that as he held is breath
he knelt down to pet a baby buffalo that continued sleeping peacefully. The little boy continued on and
returned to his people, including his very worried mother. He told them of the rock and the buffalo and
the fox, and as the early spring sun began to light the sky and some of the stars began to fade, they
gathered their weapons and approached the rock. The hunters spotted their prime targets, the bulls,
laying closest to the rock. Like the fox and the boy the hunters snuck past the bison and atop the rock.
As the sun broke the horizon one hunter atop the rock used an old bulls horn to sound off in
preparation for the hunt. As the buffalo began to stir the hunters shot the four big bulls laying on either
side the rock and the other hunters came out of the bush and shot 5 more big bison bulls. The tribe, as
they had all been hungry quickly dressed and moved the meat back to their camp, where it was
completely dressed. In honour of the four buffalo in each

The Steam Engine ( Steam Power )
The Steam Engine
The industrial revolution was a period in history that brought about numerous mechanical advances
that allowed the use of much less manual labor. One of those mechanical advances was steam power.
Steam power was not a new concept to the people of the world; in fact, steam power dates all the way
back to Alexander the Great in the first century, where he designed a steam powered spinning sphere
called an Aeolipile. (5 par 25) However, in the late 18th and early 19th centuries they sought out to
perfect the use of steam in everyday life. The ultimate goal was to use steam power so the public could
rely less on manual labor and let the machines do the work for them. Steam power was greatly utilized
in everyday life in order to ease the workload for the workers. Thomas Savery was the first person to
design an engine from steam that would later be changed and improved by James Watt for better
efficiency. The steam engine was changed greatly for a higher speed engine that was installed in
locomotives and boats pioneered by Richard Trevithick. The mining process was changed greatly with
the introduction of steam power and the steam engine.
Steam engines were greatly utilized in mining. The first steam engine produced by Thomas Savery
called The Miner s Friend; was used to pump water from the depths of the mine to the surface of the
land. The Miner s Friend used the steam pressure to force the water from the mine up and discharge it
on land. However, his invention

The German Refugee Analysis
Oskar s Struggle: The life of a German immigrant during World War II In the story The German
Refugee, written by Bernard Malamud, Oskar, a Jewish immigrant from Germany struggles to learn
English and cope with the depression of his past. Many German immigrants, especially those that
were Jewish, had to struggle with similar problems like Oskar s. Unfortunately, Oskar kills himself at
the end of the paper, leaving his American dream unfulfilled and succumbing to the depression that
followed him throughout the story. Oskar is a first generation Immigrant from Germany, leaving his
wife in Germany to flee from the persecution of Hitler and the Nazis. Oskar is well educated, having
been a German reporter and critic before he emigrated to the U.S to give lectures at the Institute of
Public Studies once a week. One trait that Oskar struggles with throughout the story and unfortunately
succumbs to at the end, is his depression. His depression is mainly due to leaving his wife that he
loved in Germany and attempting to learn English so that he does not get embarrassed at the lecture.
Also, we learn early on in the story that Oskar has been struggling with depression since his arrival in
America, having attempted suicide in the first week he was here. Along with being depressed, Oskar is
also very lonely, will all of his friends and family back in Germany and his only friend in America
being Martin Goldberg, his English tutor. Oskar struggles with many of the same things that other
Jewish immigrants from Germany would have. Oskar, like many of them, is fleeing for his life
because Germany at the time was under Nazi rule and Jews across Germany were being sent to
concentration camps and being killed. Also, like many other immigrants from other countries, Oskar
has a hard time learning the English language. Immigrants like Oskar needed to learn the language in
order to find their way around the city, obtain a job, and buy things such as apartments and food.
Without the language, the immigrants are isolated just like Oskar. However, Oskar had some unique
experiences unlike other immigrants that have come to this country. Oskar lives alone, nowhere near a
German community, preventing him from getting help and

Personal Narrative-The Old Warrior
I was only an infant when my family died. Or, at least, that s what my father told me. He had no wife,
or children of his own, and though we did not share blood, the old warrior took me under his wing,
and offered the me the same love as he would to his own kin. I will always admire the kindness he
gave to me. There were many times when my father would try and teach me to fight, to pass his
knowledge of battle onto me. However, his efforts were in vain. I was not born with the strength or
skill of a warrior. I was slim, and meek. I never spoke out of term and always did my best to keep to
the background. At the age of eight, I had grown taller than the other children. But my skinny arms did
very little for me in ways of strength. I was not fast, nor agile. In the summer, we would race down ...

I shut my eyes tightly as I saw the glint of a skinning knife. This was an accessory that one of those
boy would often brandish. A gift from his father, a sign of his maturity and oncoming manhood. I
gritted my teeth as the dull blade roughly rocked against my strained hair, painfully severing each
strand until my long locks had been turned into a short mess of damaged ends. It was their trophy. A
sign of a successful hunt. They had triumphantly cut my dignity from my body, they let me go. I could
not run. I had grown weak from their torment. My body instinctively curled itself, as I tucked my
knees to my chest. I remember feeling lifeless. I did not come home that night. I was sitting by a tide
pool, watching the sun begin to slip beneath the ocean s horizon. Smooth waters, sparsely dotted by
sailing boats, returning to their homes, the winds carried itself out to sea, bringing with it the
reassuring scent of hearth fires. My short hair would blow into my eyes, and I would struggle to keep

Abstract
Baroque was born in Italy, and later adopted in France, Germany, Netherlands, and Spain. The word
baroque was first applied to the art of period from the late 1500s to the late 1700s, by critics in the late
nineteen century. Baroque covers a wide range of styles and artists. In painting and sculpture we
recognize three main forms of Baroque:
Baroque that was primarily associated with the religious tensions within Western Christianity: division

sixteen century, the Roman Catholic Church had embarked in the 1550s ... Show more content on

not diminished, but increased by psychological insight and spiritual awareness. Expressive lighting

Christmas, 2009 Essay
Since I was a child I have always been very excited and waiting patiently for Christmas to arrive
because I always thought on Christmas as an occasion when the family gets together. And this past
year (2009) was not different from the others; I was very excited waiting for Christmas. Especially,
because I was going to spend this holiday in Mexico with my grandma, aunts, uncles and cousins, but
all that emotion did not take me to a Christmas full of joy as the past years. Christmas was very
important to me because it was Camila s (my daughter) first time in Mexico, but after this holiday, the
way I appreciated and treated my family changed. After Christmas 2009, I learned to value my mom
and dad; I also learned to understand how important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I saw my brothers and mom boarding the plane, it felt to me as if a piece of my heart was
leaving with them, in the same plane. However, in the midst of this feeling, there was also some
comprehension because I knew that there was no other option to prevent this separation. I saw the
three of them walking heading to the plane with destination to Colorado; far, very far away from me
and the rest of my family. During their walk to the plane, each one of those steps they gave were like
laughs of joy that were leaving out with the rhythm of their steps. So, step after step were just as less
and less joy, until I could not see my mom and brothers anymore and that was when I let my sadness
came out accompanied with tears. That moment completely changed the emotion with which I
expected Christmas. It was as if the girl who waited impatiently for Christmas had disappeared along
with the laughter of joy that disappeared following the rhythm of the footsteps of my mom and
brothers walking to board the plane.
Christmas evening! Another lesson that this holiday taught me was to value more my mom and my
dad because it was so hard to feel how life is without my parents. I say this because in Christmas day I
decided to stay with my grandma, aunts, uncles and cousins from my mom s side, but my dad told me
that he was going to spend this holiday with his mom and the rest of his family. When I heard those
words coming out of his mouth was like if his words

Date Of Death Research Paper
It s indubitable that everyone fears death, and it s understandable that some people want to live as long
as possible and to live a happier life they can. Therefore, an advancing technology, Cryonics, came out
and considered as a conquest of people s fear of death and nature. For me, personally, I think the
dangers of knowing the date of death outweighs the benefits, and people are supposed to live their
own lives instead of planning their happiest life beforehand. I also don t support the reanimation
because I believe that people are supposed to die when it s time for them to die. First of all, the
consequence of knowing exactly date of death is too uncertain that we may not be able to afford.
Some people may argue that they can plan well for their life if they know exactly which year or day
they will die, but the reality is that they don t know if they can really make it that is, do everything as
they plan to. Once people know when they are going to die, as the deadline approaches, the terrors
under their minds arouse and they have no ideas how theses terrors may take over them. In ... Show

things that would make me happy instead having people planning for me. What s more, planning my

Cryonics because I think I will miss the growth of myself, the changes of my parents and friends, and

  • 5. Self-Presentation Vs. Impression Management Self Presentation Versus Impression Management There is no surprise that the way a person presents himself to others impacts how they will respond to him. Most often, people will attempt to present themselves in a positive manner in order to gain friends, likes and comments on social media, and even a romantic relationship. In order to achieve their ideal image of how they want others to perceive them, people will attempt to reconstruct their bodies through the forms of surgeries, makeup, and style of clothing, as well as engaging in various activities that match their ideal image (Kassin, Fein, Markus, 2013). There are two ways people accomplish this, which are self presentation and impression management. Self presentation involves the different methods people use to present themselves, while impression management is altering the truth of who the person actually is in order to create a favorable impression, and there are various techniques and motivations behind each of these methods of controlling other peoples perceptions. Self Presentation Tactics Self presentation involves the person s conscious decision of how he wants to present himself, and this image can be a more professional, more serious, or even more strict demeaner. According to Johann Marek, every experience. . . is able to function as psychological quasi content and, therefore, is able to be an object of a thought that is turned inwards (2012, p. 122). To form the self presentation, the person must decide what impression he wants to present, and then he must determine what actions he must take to reinforce this new image, and these actions are classified as impression management. There are several ways in which people attempt to establish and maintain a self presentation, which include ingratiation and self promotion (Kassin et al., 2013). In regard to ingratiation, people desire to be likable and get along with other people (Kassin et al., 2013). However, self promotion is when a person attempts to gain peoples respect (Kassin et al., 2013). Impression Management Techniques Like self presentation, impression management attempts to control how people view the individual, and this process involves the individual s actions. For ... At Central Market leaders encourage creativity by building a fun work environment. When the word job comes to mind thoughts of obligation and meaningless tasks might come to mind. This is all because at Central Market the corporate structure is different from that of other major corporations. Corporate plans are not passed down the corporate structure. Plans are created in store by managers of the different departments. This corporate strategy gives managers at the store plenty of room to research and develop new successful plans on their own. Managers at Central Market take pride in their work, because it is something they have created. Central Market leaders inspire Partners to find their own solutions through the training that is provided in the company. The training will be discussed later on in depth, but simply put it is extensive and educates Partners on the day to day operations of the company. Also at Central Market research and development is acceptable which allows space to innovate. Leadership takes place throughout the corporate structure at Central Market. • 7. Memory In Frankenstein Whether good or bad, past memories can either motivate people to change and grow or cause people to remain stagnant. This is especially true for Madame Ranevsky, Lopakhin, and Firs from The Cherry Orchard, by Anton Chekhov. The Cherry Orchard is a comedic play about a widow, Madame Ranevsky, who is in the process of losing her beloved cherry orchard due to the debt that she has collected following the emancipation of the serfs in 1861. Madame Ranevsky, Lopakhin, and Firs all have different memories of the past. Both Madame Ranevsky and Firs have good memories of the past Madame R with her childhood and Firs with his happy days of being a serf. Lopakhin, on the other hand, has bad memories of the past because of being born into a family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Madame Ranevsky does not want to cut down the orchard because of the memories it holds, regarding her parents and childhood. Madame Ranevsky s shows her fondness for the estate when she points out that her life would have no meaning if it were sold. In other words, the good memories memories of her pure and happy childhood (12) is what is keeps Madame Ranevsky from accepting Lophakin s plan. She feels that her memories would be ruined if the orchard is destroyed. In fact, Madame Ranevsky acknowledges this attachment to orchard due to the good memories. She tells Lopakhin: Oh! If only I could free my neck and shoulders from the stone that weighs them down! If only I could forget my past! (12). Madame Ranevsky makes the point that her feelings regarding the past is weighing her down and preventing her from accepting Lophakin s plan, so her debts can be relieved. The past that Madame Ranevsky is referring to is her happy childhood memories at the orchard. Hence, Madame Ranevsky s happy childhood memories attach her to the orchard and makes her not want to lose it. Because of this conundrum, Madame Ranevsky essentially does not think about anything else throughout the play b besides whether or not the orchard is going to be sold. • 9. The Taming Of The Shrew Analysis Performing Marriage with a Difference: Wooing, Wedding, and Bedding in The Taming of the Shrew Amy L. Smith Even before the recent burgeoning of performance theory, The Taming of the Shrew was of great interest to critics interested in role playing , identity, and theatricality. And because Kate s taming and her performative speech both take place in a play within a play, Taming fostered a critical interest in the intersection between performance and gender long before the phrase gender trouble became commonplace. The recent debates about performance, culture, and theater sparked in part by Judith Butler suggest, however, that it is time to revisit our analysis of gender and performance in this play. Although there are a number of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ramer, they dramatize a marriage that leaves Kate and Petruchio negotiating not only gender hierarchies but also love, sexuality, and parental demands. The Turning s particular reiteration of marriage enacts a series of negotiations for power, none of which results in a marriage based on simple domination and submission or perfect egalitarianism. By exaggerating husbandly dominance, for example, Petruchio s performance draws our attention not to the power inherent in such dominance but rather to its inefficacy. Thereby a conception of marriage that expects hierarchy and mutuality to coincide effortlessly is questioned. Kate emphasizes the room marriage leaves for maneuverability by enacting one that incorporates her wit and sexuality into her very performances of submission. Thus by thinking of marriage (andthefemalesubjectionitrequires) as performative, we can read Kate s agency through her reiteration of the role of wife a reiteration that stresses her reshaping of Petruchio and their marriage. By using performance theory to contend that gendered institutions such as marriage can and do change, I suggest that the very institutions which some critics suggest Kate is forced either to accept or to escape are instead critiqued and perhaps even shaped by her.4 Indeed, one of the reasons that the field of performance studies is so prevalent today and has so much to offer our readings of this play is ... • 10. Similarities and Differences Between Jefferson and Jesus... Similarities and Differences Between Jefferson and Jesus Based on the book A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines In the book A Lesson Before Dying, there are multiple hints, clues and symbolism between Jefferson and Jesus. The author, Ernest Gaines, draws a line between Jefferson and Jesus, but yet he creates his character to be similar to Jesus in multiple ways. Some ways that Jefferson and Jesus are alike is that they both die around Easter, but not by their choice. Both Jefferson and Jesus were unjustly convicted and were not killed out of their own will. The deaths of these two men were both symbolic in many ways and in some ways seem to be seen as a defeat to society and humanity. It happens second Friday after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Jefferson, he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. The defense argued that Jefferson was innocent of all charges except being at the wrong place at the wrong time. (Gaines, 7). For Jesus, Pontius Pilate asks the crowd he and Jesus were in front of, what they wanted to happen with him. Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him. (Luke 23:22). In a way Pilate seems to be defending Jesus like the defendant in Jefferson s trial, trying to see what the jury wants to happen, also trying to bail him out; Though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. (Isaiah 53:9) But this man has done nothing wrong (Luke 23:41). The fact that Mr. Gropé shot only Brother and Bear was proof of Jefferson s innocence. (Gaines, 7). Both Jesus and Jefferson were recognized as innocent by some and yet still received a death sentence. In the Old Testament, it was prophesized that Jesus would have done nothing wrong but still be convicted, as well as Jefferson was convicted for something he did not do. The death of these two men is symbolic in many ways. First, for Jefferson it was a defeat for him standing for the blacks showing that they are equal and showing that there is not a difference between blacks and whites and that they should not be treated as less because he is still yet a man; I want you to show them that you are as much ... • 11. How We Are Affected by People s Views of Nature How people s views of nature have changed over time in the United States of America and how it has affected us is a great question. Looking back through history makes it simple to answer this question. People have very different opinions on to what their answer would be. Reading Out of the Woods edited by Char Miller and Hal Rothman, Dust Bowl: The Southern Plains in the 1930s by Donald Worstter, Nature s Metropolis: Chicago and the Great West by William Cronon, The Ecological Indian by Shepard Krech III, and Something s Rising: Appalachians Fighting Mountaintop Removal by Silas House makes it easy to comprehend and to answer how our views of nature have changed. Looking all the way back to the early Indians, Shepard Krech III, the author of The Ecological Indian, the Indians were not the one with nature individuals you thought they were. Most people that first think of the Indians were one with nature because of movies and old folk tales. They were reckless and took advantage of their environment. They used more resources than they clearly needed. The Indians would waste their animals that they hunted. They caused many problems with the ecosystem involving plants and animals triggered for the use of fire. They involved fire to clear the undergrowth of the forest. Their reasoning to do this was because it made travel significantly easier, it made a better area to hunt, and they used it as protection. Many come to view the real world as fake. Chinese doctors consider this phenomenon a clinical disorder and have established rehabilitation centers where afflicted youngsters are confined for months of sometimes draconian therapy, completely isolated from all media, the effectiveness of which remains to be demonstrated. Strong research has been coming in over the last several years, suggesting that looking at screens for hours a day can have some serious health and mental health consequences. Even some of the developers of these products have admitted guilt about their creations, and confessed that they don t even let their kids use them. Time spent on screens is linked to not so great shifts in brain connectivity, while reading is linked to more beneficial changes. Cincinnati Children s Hospital, had families rate how much time their kids spent on screens and how much time they spent reading actual books. The children s brains were scanned, to assess how regions involved in language were connected, and it turned out that screen time was linked to poorer connectivity in areas that govern language and cognitive control. Optimal nutritional status is achieved when sufficient nutrients are consumed to support [the] body s needs and any increased metabolic demands caused by growth, pregnancy, or illness (Jarvis, 2012). Newborns require intense nutritional and metabolic needs as they increase 50% in their length in the first year of life and double it by 4 years of age (Jarvis, 2012). However, when a new mother refuses to breastfeed it is important for nurses to explore the positive and negative aspects of breastfeeding from the mother s perspective (Barrientos Bylaska Davies, 2015). This is because nurses spend the most time with mothers during the pre and post partum period, as well as care for the infants following delivery (Barrientos Bylaska Davies, 2015). Therefore with effective communication and education on different options for feeding, and by conducting frequent nutritional assessments of the infant the nurse can ensure adequate nutrition for the infant. The Best Start 3 Step Breastfeeding Counseling Strategy can be used: by asking the mother open ended questions, affirming her feelings, and educating the mother on the advantages for both the mother and the child (Lazarov Evans, 2011). It is important to note that educating the mother with information should not be overwhelming but should be in small amounts of information that is relevant for the individual mother (yellowpdf). Also, the adaptation of other languages vocabulary and usage into the English language, and how English has impacted vocabulary and grammar structures on other languages. Furthermore, it talks about the effects on minority languages due to the continuous spread and dominance of English. Later, it touches upon some positive aspects that it has brought into modern day life across the globe. English as a Lingua Franca Over centuries, the English language has evolved from the roots of other ancient languages including: Latin, the Germanic languages, French, even Greek. Their influences are clear to see in its vocabulary and spoken dialects, which have also adopted words into its lexicon. Most of the aforementioned have their complexities, causing difficulties for students and scholars to learn as second languages. However, English is a much simpler language to comprehend due to its limited inflections and familiarity of spoken and written words. Thus, it has become the lingua franca for people around the world and is taught in the classrooms of most non native speaking countries. Though every Supreme Court case played a major role in history, the most prominent three were Palko vs. Connecticut, Brown vs. Board of Education, and Miranda vs. Arizona. These three cases established some major things that we use within the government to this day, and with that, these cases play a prominent role in United States history. The first major case, Palko vs. Connecticut, was heard by the Supreme Court in 1937 and involved Frank Palko, a man whom was charged with second degree murder in the state of Connecticut. When it was heard by the state of Connecticut, his conviction was appealed to seek higher degree conviction. The state s local statute allowed the state to appeal criminal conviction, along with the defendant himself. Produced in 2003, performed by an almost all American cast, written by a Danish director, Dogville becomes not only a film about how Europeans might see America; but how the audience can interpret what Trier is presenting to them. Dogville, is often viewed and critiqued by many as a cynical spin on how the United States is perceived. After all, this film is one of the easiest ways to see how a director can use the many Brechtian techniques to keep the audience from being absorbed in the film. Trier places his actors within what the audience can observe to be a small town. He carefully lays out a map of buildings and other areas on the floor of a huge, undecorated studio. The audience when introduced to Dogville are able to see a bird s eye view of what the town looks like. The furniture and props are real, but there are no walls to obscure activities within each defined area; only solid chalk lines separating what is a house, or a garden, or a town hall. Consequently, the audience can see anything and everything that is happening all over the town; they may see a character tending to their garden in the background while the camera is focused on other characters. The Steam Engine ( Steam Power ) The Steam Engine The industrial revolution was a period in history that brought about numerous mechanical advances that allowed the use of much less manual labor. One of those mechanical advances was steam power. Steam power was not a new concept to the people of the world; in fact, steam power dates all the way back to Alexander the Great in the first century, where he designed a steam powered spinning sphere called an Aeolipile. (5 par 25) However, in the late 18th and early 19th centuries they sought out to perfect the use of steam in everyday life. The ultimate goal was to use steam power so the public could rely less on manual labor and let the machines do the work for them. Steam power was greatly utilized in everyday life in order to ease the workload for the workers. Thomas Savery was the first person to design an engine from steam that would later be changed and improved by James Watt for better efficiency. The steam engine was changed greatly for a higher speed engine that was installed in locomotives and boats pioneered by Richard Trevithick.
