Education of Girl Child
I ask you all so earnestly to open girl s schools in every village and try to uplift them. If the
Conditions of women are raised, then their children will, by their noble actions, glorify the name of
the Country. Swami Vivekananda
Today s girl child will be the mother of tomorrow. As a mother she can give her child a sound nursing
and capable upbringing. A woman has the maximum impact on the social, economical decisions
making in the family generally. At micro level, educated woman help in making the whole family
including the older family members, understand the values and importance of education, and at macro
level, educated women add to the social and economical development of the nation.
Girls education is like sowing the seed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the success of a person whether man or woman, education plays an important role. Education for
the girls is more important as she not only builds the home but all routine responsibilities are taken
care of by her. An educated woman not only helps in nourishing the family in a better way but can also
help in earning. Rightly said that God made the mother because He could not be present every where.
One could judge the degree of civilization of a country by the social and political position of its
women Charles Fourier
Education for a girl child means making the next generation well educated, full of virtues, free from
the useless superstitions, confident and capable to do something good for the family, for the society
and for the country as a whole. The present day girl is the mother of tomorrow. Give me good mothers
and I will give you a great nation Napoleon
She is the most crucial and reverend entity. She must be given all the necessary education. Ignoring
her, keeping her illiterate means we are creating an illiterate and ignorant generation. So it is perfectly
true that educating a girl child means educating a family.Development cannot be accelerated unless
girls are given right education in right direction. Swami Vivekananda has rightly said, Educate your
women first and leave them to themselves, then they will tell you what reforms are

The Importance Of The Vedic Ritual
On one hand, Brian Smith provides the definition that Vedic rituals refer to the rituals of the Vedic
religion and later Hinduism surrounding the concept of Veda , which is defined as thought by some to
merely signify a Hindu notion of absolute truth or truth in a general sense (Smith, 1989, p. 2). On the
other hand, later in his book he refers to Marcel Mauss definition of magic ( Magic gives every
outward appearance of being a gigantic variation of on the theme of causality...it s exclusive aim is to
produce results (Smith, 1989, p. 36)), and from this he claims that from the definition the Vedic ritual
can alternatively be called magic or a kind of science (Smith, 1989, p. 36).
Jamison and Witzel argue that The central importance of elaborate ritual activity throughout the Vedic
period cannot be overemphasized. However, it is also important to remember that our views of Vedic
ritual are somewhat distorted by the chronology of the text types that concern the ritual. It is only at
the very end of the Vedic period, in the Åšrauta SÅ«tras, that we have straightforward, detailed
descriptions of ritual (Jamison Witzel, 1992, p. 29). In consequence, the meanings concerned in the
practice of Vedic rituals may be overexaggerated by researchers due to the lack of understanding of
the texts written about Vedic rituals.
Interestingly though, throughout hundreds of years, the Vedic rites became more complicated and had
developed countless rules that were entwined with the

Sandro Botticelli Research Paper
Sandro Botticelli (1445 1510)
BIOGRAPHY
Sandro Botticelli, short for Alessandro di Mariano Filipepi, was born on the 1st of March 1445 in The
Republic of Florence which is now Italy. As a child he was easily bored in school and was known for
his hyperactivity and love of practical jokes. At about fourteen years of age, he was withdrawn from
his school and became an apprentice. He first worked for Maso Finiguerra as a goldsmith for 3 years
but soon became an apprentice to the artist Fillipo Lippi at around the age of 17. From Fillipo Lippi he
learned to paint more intricately and with more detail.
He then worked with Antonio del Pollaiuolo, painting frescoes on Florentine cathedrals and churches.
At around 22 years of age he had his own workshop and was appointed to the confraternity of
Florentine painters in 1472. He then employed Filipino Lippi, son of Fillipo Lippi as an apprentice. In
1481 it was requested by the Pope that he come to Rome to decorate the walls of the Sistine Chapel in
the Vatican, which had just been completed. He painted frescoes of the life of Moses and the
temptations of Christ. This was 30 years before Michaelangelo s famous ceiling frescoes. He was very
highly regarded around this time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Between 1478 and 1490 he produced some of his most famous artworks such as The Birth of Venus
and Venus and Mars . Once his popularity began to die down, Botticelli became sad and depressed. He
lived on his own having never married, and suffered from mental illness. He died on May the 17th,
1510 at the age of 65 in Florence, his place of birth. After his death his name was forgotten, but in the
19th Century renewed appreciation for Florentine art and culture combined with the input of Victorian
aesthete Walter Pater, brought more attention and interest to his

Sir Laurence Olivier s Richard III versus Ian McKellan s Richard III
INTRODUCTION
It seems that modern Hollywood filmmakers are as much in love with Shakespeare s plays as were the
16th century audiences who first enjoyed them. Recent updates of Hamlet (1996) and Romeo and
Juliet (1996), both highly successful movies, bear this out, as well as the two best film versions of
Richard III; Sir Laurence Olivier s 1954 period piece , and Ian McKellan s more modern interpretation
(1995).
In McKellan s Richard III, we see Britain in the late 1930s, at the end of a savage civil war between
the House of York and the House of Lancaster. This version works for a number of reasons: 1) it is
made for a modern audience; 2) the social and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is done in the modern style, with lots of action and movement, primarily using existing buildings as
sets, instead of rebuilding them on soundstages. Every scene is alive with movement and detail, a
quality that is sadly lacking in Olivier s version. The setting is Britain, but a Britain very much of the
late 1930s. This much can be seen at once. Richard s opening soliloquy is broken in half; the first half
is spoken into a microphone before a crowd of merry makers at King Edward IV s victory celebration.
However, just as Richard reaches Grim visag d war has smoothed his wrinkled brow , and the
soliloquy becomes more a description of Richard s plans, we cut away to Richard, alone, in the men s
room taking a piss. As Richard relieves himself, he continues his soliloquy. Clearly, the movie is not
above using anything including Richard s bathroom habits to move the story along. A perfect fit for
today s audiences.
2. Background
When Olivier made Richard III, he had to work within the bounds of the 1950s, which makes it
difficult for modern audiences (myself included, I m ashamed to say) to stick with the movie until the
end. The things that get audiences going nowadays are basically sex and violence (hopefully with a
decent story keeping them together). Olivier s version has very little of the former, and I think that he
wouldn t have put them in even if he could. I have seen several of his movies, and he

Motivation And Motivation For Academic Achievements
It is important for everyone especially students to do well in school because it reflects in the
foundation of their accomplishments in life. Students are affect their ability to move to the next level
when they fail to complete some requirements. It takes many factors to motivate individuals to
continue on striving for academic achievements. (Higgins, 2008) It is said that motivation gives big
contribution in one individual s success. Motivation is defined as the organized patterning of three
psychological functions that serves to direct, energize, and regulate goal oriented activity: personal
goals, emotional arousal processes, and personal agency beliefs. It is an interactive construct
representing the direction a person is going, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In conformity with the social norms, people learn by imitating others. However, people don t learn
only the acceptable social behaviours, they may also learn beyond the norms behaviours. Knowledge
gained in this way will have the chance to be transferred to another situation. This may continue all
the time and everywhere. In the same vein, we can argue that students spend most of their time by
learning. This can happen in different situations. It can be seen in groups while with others.
(Woldetsadik Lumadi, 2014) In a school situation students continuously engage themselves in the
learning process. It can be observed when they do assignments, read books and do other related
academic activities. Obviously, this is a regular process exercised by most of the students in schools.
However, the habit of doing these things can t happen at a time. It needs careful observation and
systematic exercise. All these efforts lead students to make their own meaning/understanding of the
activities. Besides, it enables them to reach at a level of sharing their own experiences and to become
a continuous process.
In view of this, Battersby and Gordon (2006) have cited some of the specific situations that can
develop experience within the school context. They stated varied sources of experience. They believe
that the identification of best characteristics of both teachers and students, either in group or
individually, in the first place

Avon Case Study Essay
Case Introduction Brief Summary
Avon is the world s largest direct seller of beauty product for over a hundred years. It was founded by
David McConnell as California Perfume Company in 1886 and changed its name to Avon Products in
1939. It entered China and pioneered the direct selling method in 1990 and became a global name
brand in beauty product around the same time. With operations in over 45 countries and a market
spanning over 135 countries in Europe, Australia, Asia and America, Avon set the standard of what it
means for a company to be global.
Case Questions
1. In what way does Avon follow a global strategy? Does this experience indicate that it should pursue
a different strategy? Avon pursues economies of scale by choosing facility location that minimizes the
cost of manufacturing, logistics, etc, and it does so on a global basis. Avon also limited product
variations which save the company from spending extra money and it also balances the cost saving
potential of standardization with responsiveness to individual market needs in pursuing both profits
and market share. With $4.8 billion in sales each year and 65% of the sales coming from abroad, it s
clear to see that Avon does not need to change its overall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What cultural dimensions of the Chinese people would affect the future success of Avon in China? In
China, foreign beauty products are perceived as more luxurious and better in quality and people in the
middle class bracket with disposable income are increasing in number. On the other hand, direct
selling is essentially marketing through word of mouth combined with use of personal relationship and
expansive network of contacts. All of the components required in order for direct selling to succeed is
built into the Chinese culture where families and community is above all else. With strong demand for
foreign beauty product combined with the culture that support Avon s business model, the company is
almost guaranteed to be successful in the

Related To The Golden Ratio
This short report and presentation related to the Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio has interested
mathematicians for a long time. The Golden Ratio is a special number that is defined mathematically
from
which produces 1.618033989..., commonly used as the approximation 1.618. There is interesting fact
that digits just keep on going to infinity, with no pattern. Mathematically, the Golden Ratio is tends to
be an irrational number.
Two numbers tend to be golden if the ratio of their sum to the bigger number is equal as the larger to
the smaller number. In other words, this relationship could be expressed with the following equation:
In the case of a rectangle, if k is the length of the longer sides, whereas m is the length of the shorter
sides, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historically, this number can be found in the architecture of many ancient buildings such as the
Parthenon and the Great Pyramids. Some investigations of the Acropolis, including the Parthenon,
established that majority of its proportions mostly are close to the golden ratio. It could be concluded
that architects knew the golden ratio, that is why classical buildings and their elements are
proportioned according to the golden ratio. The design of the Parthenon was created according to the
Golden ratio, as illustrated in the picture 1. Another famous example of usage the Golden ratio in
architecture is the Acropolis of Athens. The dimensions of the Great Pyramid of Giza, which is
approximately 4,600 years old, are also based on the Golden Ratio. When it comes to art, there are
several illustrations, which can prove that the Golden ratio is used in the arts as well. For instance,
Leonardo da Vinci s paintings in De Divina Proportione (On the Divine Proportion) and Mona Lisa
employ the Golden ratio in their geometric equivalents. Also Mondrian used the Golden number in his
masterpiece as well as Salvador Dali in his The Sacrament of the Last

Differences Between Weak Impermissibility And The...
In the aforementioned studies, an asymmetry is found between the footbridge and the bystander cases
which suggests that there is an independent reason to remove any asymmetry in the personal bystander
and footbridge cases. The results showed that participants were aware of the difference between weak
impermissibility and all in impermissibility. In the first experiment, about 70% stated that is was not
acceptable to violate a moral rule and all things considered both in the personal footbridge case. We
can see a recognisable distinction in personal and moral cases, but this was not addressed in these
experiments. In addition, a philosophical understanding tells us that when a rule is broken, it is wrong
to go ahead with that action (e.g. Fried, 1978). It is clear then from both experiments that a difference
between weak and all in permissibility is not evident (Nichols Mallon, 2005). The results show that
some people think that it is acceptable to breach a moral rule, even one that allows killing innocent
people. This reinforces the idea that people are not absolute deontologists, and this is similar to the
issues observed in the catastrophe case. What is notable about the results is that people appreciate the
recognisable difference between weak and all in impermissibility. Moreover, the results show an
independent mechanism for two underlying ideas relating to moral judgement. One shows that people
are able to minimise bad outcomes and the other shows people have a set

Against Universal Health Care
Universal health care is a program where every one in the country has medical coverage for surgery,
illness, and treatments that would cause problems with your health. The United States is currently the
only industrialized country that has no universal health care. Universal health care is a controversial
topic because people don t know if they want it here in the United States. Some reasons why people
might want it is because it gives everyone coverage as long as you are a citizen of that country. A
reason why you would not want a universal system is because the coverage you get may not cover
certain operations. Although universal health care may sound appealing, it actually has flaws.
Universal Health Care should not be considered in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

have, or to receive prescriptions for illnesses and diseases. But a factor most probably are not worried
about when they go to a hospital is how they are being treated. Doctors already have a difficult task to
perform, but overcrowding the hospitals will cause them to be busy and possibly conduct their job
with out the amount of care that is required. Giving out prescriptions in a hospital could also be
effected. Patients vital medicine could be mixed up with someone else s and cause even more harm.
The wait time in a hospital for an operation is also effected by over population. In the United States
there is already about a 2 hour wait time in each hospital that you go to (Mortal Peril). Adding a
universal health care system would only cause that time to increase. There are some cases where the
operation cannot be delayed because of excessive bleeding or a lady about to give birth. Both of these
examples need to be treated within a certain amount of time or the patient could possibly die. The

warmth and heaviness, that can eventually leads to a state of relaxation.
Another technique that can be applied to one s life in order to help one to regulate arousal during
performance is called multimodal anxiety reduction packages. A well known form of this anxiety
reducing technique is called stress management training. SMT consists of applying relaxation and
cognitive components to one s form of coping responses to emotional arousal that may arise within.
Another example of a multidomal anxiety reduction that may fortify one s way of coping with stress is

Flippo Brunelleschi s Influence On Renaissance Architecture

Architects were inspired by Ancient Rome and Greek architecture, to create beautiful buildings.
Filippo Brunelleschi was influenced and applied his idea s to building one of his most famous
creations. Leon Battista Alberti s sculptures and architecture are mainly due to his three influential
aspects on Renaissance art, and Roman architecture. Andrea Palladio was also influenced by the
Roman and Greek architecture, and with that created some unique buildings in the Renaissance. So

Alberti was not only an amazing architect, he was also very talented in creating Renaissance art
(specifically painting), poetry, and sculpturing, which was a very coincidental, and worked well
together all around. His life span was from February 14, 1404 April 25, 1472. As a designer and a
student of Vitruvius and of ancient Roman remains, he grasped the nature of column and lintel
architecture, from the visual rather than structural viewpoint. Some of his other major
accomplishments through his years was through the influence on ancient rome architecture, he
designed many buildings such as the The Tempio Malatestiano (aka, the Church of San Francesco).
Alberti also designed the New Facade of Santa Maria Novella, Florence in 1456. In his architecture,
he had the intention of using their symbolic content and associations to ennoble a modern building and
give it the sense of having a Renaissance culture feel to almost all of the buildings he would construct.
As one once said about Alberti s work, The result of the distinction is a new emphasis on building
mass totally unlike, even alien to Brunelleschi s architecture at San Lorenzo that so carefully
emphasized plane, space, and line. It is, however, related to the new interest in the quality and majesty
of mass and the sculptural treatment of space at Santo Spirito. So yes,

Al 1050 English Essay
In AL 1050 Languages in the Pacific I have learned many different concepts that has to do with the
Pacific Rim. It all has to do with languages and how each island or country speaks their own tongue,
but all are similar in some way. In class I have examined historical and contemporary language use
throughout the Pacific Basin, as well as in Hawai`i. Through exploring topics such as the effects of
language contact, pidgins and creoles, and stories of language loss and preservation, and different
cultures. The first concept I am going to talk about is language borrowing. Language borrowing is
basically when you loan a word that is imported into a certain language called loan form. These forms
now function in the grammatical processes, with nouns taking plural or possessive forms of the new
language receiving native morphemes. An example would be the English word alligator. Alligator
came from the Spanish which is el largato. El largato in Spanish means lizard. Loanshift another
process that occurs also known as calque is when adapting native words to the new meanings. The
verb bad mouth . . . is a calque or loan translation: it seems to come from Vai day ngatmay (a curse;
literally, a bad mouth ). The second concept I am going to talk about is language endangerment.
Language endangerment is basically when the language is at risk of becoming extinct in the near
future. Every language face a different level of threat. There are many different levels of
endangerment which

Sql Vs. Oracle Server
SQL vs. Oracle Server
Dheeraj Balamoori
Wilmington University Abstract
Databases are most paramount part in today s organizations. In the event that the servers are down for
quite a while and data is not accessible there would be enormous misfortune to the organization
regarding income and good will. Thus, databases play an essential part in today s business. There are
various relational database management systems (RDBMS) like Microsoft Access, Sybase, MySQL
and oracle but out of all databases Oracle and MS SQL are the widely used applications throughout
the globe. Oracle databases are unique for having large and abnormal state abilities to handle the
circumstances like data inaccessibility, support issues, information and system failures and so forth.
Microsoft SQL Server database has the usefulness of high information accessibility and security
however is not viable as of Oracle s because it has good depth in high data availability. As Oracle is
having more enterprise applications the databse is used widely for most of the top financial companies
like bank of America, HDFC Bank, National Australia Bank
Introduction
Since their presentation in the 1980s, relational database administration frameworks (RDBMS) have
turned into the standard database sort for an assortment of commercial ventures. As their name
suggests, these systems are focused around the social model that sorts out information into gatherings
of tables alluded to as relations.

Drug Decriminalization
The Alcohol and other drug (AOD) field is dynamic and fluid and is constantly being shaped by a
variety of forces (The Department of Health, 2004). Illicit drug use is a widespread issue around the
world, posturing significant social and economic costs to the health care system, justice department
and social welfare systems in both developing and developed countries (Damrongplasit, Hsiao, Zhao,
2012). Criminal Justice and addictive drugs have been tangled in Australia and internationally for a
century or more. Ever since the addictive and destructive properties were discover within certain
drugs, officials have declared the production, distribution, sale and possession of drugs to be illegal
(Sherman Valenta, 2015). Throughout this article, there will be a focus on firstly, drug legislation and
decriminalisation with a focus on marijuana, followed by harm minimisation Firstly, Drug related
crimes take up a large portion of the work of police, prisons and the courts (Ritter, 2017) In many
countries, including Australia, the issue of varying the laws regarding marijuana use has received
growing attention in the media and the scientific community (Lenton Ovenden, 1996). There have
been many discussions made in favor for and against the legalization and/or decriminalization of
drugs. The legalization of drugs means, you are able to acquire, possess and use the said drug without
criminal charges (Clausen, 2016) while Decriminalization can be defined as a reduction of

Analysis Of The Book The On Mortal Kombat By Kevin Wilson
In the stories that author Kevin Wilson wrote in Tunneling to the Center of the Earth, several
characters are ruled by fear. The fear that these characters have eventually winded up having a
solution or solve that helps resolve their fears. Fear is defined as: a feeling of agitation or anxiety
caused by the presence or imminence of danger. An example of fear in one of the stories is Leonard in
Blowing up on the Spot, because he fears death and it controls and restricts his life. Towards the end
of that story, Leonard finds his resolve of having that fear. The type of things that can lead to
resolutions of fear is epiphanies. In his short story, Mortal Kombat to boys was facing a fear like no
other. In his short story called Mortal Kombat the boys Scotty and Wynn are best friends and they both
have this fear of accepting they are falling for one another. In Kevin Wilsons short story, Mortal
Kombat the narrator says, It is simple and awkward at the same time, the way they proceed. There is
only the quickness of movement, the instinctive responses of the body. It feels like fighting; that is
what runs through both of their minds. It lasts all of two minutes, maybe less. (76). The kiss made
them realize they are maybe attracted to eachother and their feelings couldn t fight what they were
feeling anymore. This fear that each of them show towards the situation puts a restriction on their life
for awhile. The thoughts that are going thru scotty head while he is raking

Metaphors, Forms Of Human Communication And Erapeutic Uses
Metaphors, forms of symbolic language, have been used as teaching and healing tools in stories for
centuries, cite Mills and Crowley (2014). PTUK course book (2017) also cites that research by Levin
and Modell has proven that more brain cells light up in response to metaphor than any other form of
human communication forming new neural pathways. In this essay I will be looking at the theory
behind using a therapeutic story and relating it to my process of using one with my client. Sunderland
(2000) states that stories can be an important part of therapeutic tool kit, as a vehicle, through which a
child can process troubled feelings. Sunderland (2000) adds that children can often find it difficult to
put their feelings into words, as their natural communication method is through images and
metaphors. A therapeutic story can express those feelings in child s language and help the child to
build trust that her feelings are understood, which then will help the child to share her own feelings.
Sunderland (2002) also advises that there are four ways a therapeutic story can work; It can present
the child options that she can use when coming across an obstacle, it can present new ways and
solutions of dealing with problems that might have felt unsolvable, it can show ways of coping with
emotional problems, and it can provide options for new ways of being. Ericson (1991) cites that the
therapist should encourage learning through experience, as this is more beneficial than learning

God Is The Pure Essence Of Perfect
No one on this Earth is perfect, only our God is the pure essence of perfect. With God s love and
perfection He is able to use us, the imperfect, to carry out His will. We have all sinned and continue to
ask for forgiveness when needed. Although we are not perfect, God still has a plan for our lives and it
is our duty to follow out His will. In the Old Testament there are books of history, which discuss God s
use of some imperfect individuals to accomplish His purpose for Israel. There are twelve books
exactly that deal with the history of the nation of Israel and how God accomplished His goals. These
twelve books are Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1st and 2nd Samuel, 1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd
Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. These books share a prophetic view of history describing
how the obedience or disobedience of God s people is directly tied to the blessings and curses of the
covenant. The first of these books is Joshua. In this book, the possession of the land by the nation is
the main point. It tells us the story of Israel s arrival at Canaan, otherwise known as the Promise Land,
while under the leadership of Joshua. God appoints Joshua as a leader and that he will never leave him

Siddhartha Gautama The Buddha And His Journey, The Epoch...
The story of Siddhartha Gautama is one of renunciation from a life of privilege and wealth to that of
monastic asceticism, driven by an innate desire to reach enlightenment through the banishment of
suffering and spiritual emptiness (Wattananarong). Gautama left behind wealth and nobility in order to
cease his own suffering and upon achieving his own enlightenment, provided a path for others to
follow. Following his enlightenment, Gautama came to be known as the Buddha and his journey, the
epoch of Buddhism.
Unaccepting of some social and cultural practices of the time, the Buddha was openly critical of the
Hindu Brahman s possessiveness and almost secretive knowledge of the Veda texts; sharing this
knowledge only with their son s, assuring their family s position socially and
spiritually(Wattananarong). Accordingly, he proposed the solution to the cessation of one s suffering
should be available to and for everyone, rather than to an exclusive few based on if one becomes a
Brahma or Outcaste by birth, one becomes either by living well or living badly (Wattananarong). For
this reason, he rejected the caste system predicated on the belief that all people are equal and have a
right to choose how to live their lives, thereby making decisions about their future and potentially
reduce or eliminate their own suffering.
Hence, based on Buddha s rejection of predetermined privilege and entitlement of enlightenment for
some, while denying others, it appears implausible

Border Security Essay
There are tons and tons of the supposed problems with immigration like, the threat to the U.S.
economy. But one of many big problems with immigration is the security problems it creates. The
security problems they make pose no direct security threat, but millions of undocumented migrants
being in the United States distort the law, distracts resources, and it makes an effective cover for
terrorists and criminals. The solution for this problem focuses exclusively on border security. Many
people believe immigration has been a problem for a long time, but it become a matter of national
security shortly after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. After the attacks, the George W. Bush
administration changed the role of immigration agencies, including them in a strategy to combat
terrorism. The Department of Homeland security took over jurisdiction of Immigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE). At that point immigrants were established as a threat to internal security. There is
many solutions to this growing problem but the best way is to maintain and increase the efforts to
enhance border security.Congress and The Department of Homeland Security has explored a number
of solutions to threats at our borders, like illicit drugs to illegal immigration. Because of that this is a
well researched and the best solution. This solution addresses the ... Show more content on

there is alway the possibility that it would not work. Some problems are that the immigrants could
came into the United States by plane, so because of that border patrol can t stop them coming into the
U.S. Since the border is being watched most of the immigrants would start coming in by plane and
that would make a big problem. We can overcome these problems by making people on planes show
their papers to authorized personnel. That would stop or mostly stop illegal immigrants coming into

After several months of failed experiments they had finally made a bomb to test. On July 6, 1945 they
had tested this new bomb at Los Alamos. Then one month later the 2 nuclear bombs were dropped on
Japans Hiroshima and Nagasaki. One of the main reasons that Truman had initiated the dropping was
because he belived it would end the war.
Once every one had realized that the Manhattan Project was a success the Soviet Union had begin to
make there own form of a nuclear weapon. Thus the begin of the atomic arms race had started. This
had also started the beginning of the cold war as well.
In 1949 the cold war had started , China had turned communist, and the Soviet Union tested there first
atom bomb. The testing of there atom bomb was one of the many reasons why this war had started.
One of the other reasons was that communism was taking over the east and the nations of the U.N.
were afraid that there allies or profits might be lost to communism. When China had became
communist with as many people it has making a large workforce could spell trouble for the
democracies. Communism was also flexing it s muscles in the Soviet Union after making sure the

Durkheim s Account of the Importance of Rituals in Modern...
Durkheim s account of the importance of rituals in modern society
Durkheim s theories on ritual are an integral part of his work on religion, outlined in his book The
Elementary Forms of Religious Life . Rites are defined by Durkheim as determined modes of action
(Durkheim, 1915, pg. 36). They are ceremonies that are active expressions of particular beliefs or
aspects of a religion. It is necessary to consider and assess the theories on religion before examining
and assessing those on rites and ritual specifically. Durkheim studied Australian totem tribes in order
to uncover the elementary forms of religious life and to gain something of an insight into the origins
and functions of religion. He believed that religions served a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, a flag is also an example of the profane; it has a material existence. The sacred is thus
projected onto this profane object and despite it merely being a piece of fabric it represents much more
to the people. It represents the feelings of patriotism and community and closeness (Cuff et al. 2006).
A totem is a profane object or animal that is seen as sacred, and is worshipped by all members of a
religious society. Because all the individuals of a religious society follow the same duties and rituals
associated with the totem, they are morally bound to one another (Giddens, 1972, pg. 227). He
theorised that religion and ritual produced categories of understanding ; the basic categories, which
cover the ways in which objects are perceived; for instance all objects can be seen to occupy time and
space. These categories are also perceived in the same way by all the members of the society, so
religion also influences the very basis by which people think about the world. The concept of moral
unity is still observable in religious communities today, especially in smaller cultures. However, larger
industrialised societies tend to be more divided and there are more varieties in belief in a given
society. Furthermore, the increase in secularisation has meant that the functional aspects of religion, as
outlined by Durkheim have not had an effect on those who are not religious. The example, of the
national flag; however, indicates that

Wasteland Vik Munniz
Wasteland is an inspiring, strong, awakening documentary about a fine artist named Vik Muniz. The
documentary is directed by Lucy Walker, and filmed in the largest landfill in the world located in Rio
De Janero, Brazil. It is based around the lives of several hard working garbage pickers who
desperately want to change the world by recycling. A lot of these garbage pickers work up to 16 hours
a day for only $20 to $25 dollars a day. Some of these pickers do not go home for days at a time, and
some of them live at the landfill permanently. I was very inspired by the people in this documentary.
As much as these people disliked working where they worked and living where they lived. They
carried a very high amount of self respect and self value. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time artist Vik Muniz moves his life from living in Brooklyn New York to moving back to
his home land of Brazil. Artist Vik Muniz returns to Brazil to create art from what surrounds people in
their daily lives such as the work these people do at the landfill. One of the photographs he recreates is
Marat. A Jacques Louis David painting The Death of Marat, which was painted and released on the
14th of November 1793. Marat was a French revolutionary leader Jean Paul Marat who was murdered
by Charlotte Corday while sitting in his bath tub in which he sat all the time to soothe a skin disease in
which he suffered from. It is one of the most famous images of the Revolution. While living in Brazil
trying to put his artistic mind to work he meets several different people that worked as pickers in the
landfill. Some of the people he met includes Tiao which was the President of ACAMJG (the
Association of Recycling Pickers of Jardim Gramacho). Zumbi who is the most intellectual resident of
the landfill. He has kept every decent book he has found on the landfill. Then there is Isis, she is a
worker who hates picking garbage. She loves to be fashionable which you can see with how she
carries herself and dresses. Magna is a picker as well she started working at the landfill because her
husband lost his job and she had bills to pay and a family to take care of. Magna was a very proud and
dignified woman who at times would become embarrassed by the way she had to live her life. The
people who rode the bus with her made her feel this way by the comments they made when having to
sit next to her. They would insult her and tell her she smelled unpleasant. She would tell them that she
may smell bad, but at least she is not selling herself to make money. She has a high level of self
respect, and she makes a good honest living working at the landfill Valter dos Santos was the vice
president at the landfill he worked with

Essay Romans and Barbarians Dbq
Romans and Barbarians DBQ
According to the Romans nomads were considered to be barbarians, however over time Romans
began to develop nomadic customs which were no longer considered barbaric but civilized. To the
Romans a barbarian was anyone who was an outsider of their land, and in that case nomads were
considered to be barbaric. Nomads are known as a small group of people that don t have a permanent
settlement, and travel and migrate from place to place. Nomadic people also had a different type of
lifestyle from the Romans, for example the nomads hunted and gathered their food, and which was
considered cave man like. Before the fall of Rome the Romans were considered to be civilized people

She also begins to go on and says, .. and massacre everyone you conquer. According to these
statements I would consider these actions to be barbaric based on the fact that it sounds more like a
surprise attack for war. I say this because they use the word conquer like they are going to go over
there, kill everyone and everything, and take over without any reason.
Based on what I ve read I don t believe that there is an honest yes or no answer to the question, Can
these nomads be called barbarians? According to Salvian, a Christian priest, he says, .. almost all
barbarians, at least those who are of one race and kin, love each other, while the Romans persecute
each other. However, many of these reads go into detail about the nomadic people never sparing the
people of which they conquered or went to war with, and killing them all off one by one. As for the
change over time; there was one. After the fall of Rome when the nomadic people took over around
476 CE they kept the same Roman customs, but began introducing nomadic ways of life that, over
time, turned out to not be barbaric at all. Over the course of many years you will see the Romans
perspective of the nomads and their culture began to change over the course of many years, and after
the Fall of Rome.
In the beginning the nomadic people were not given a good name due to the way they did things and

The Impact Of Internet On The United States Of America
In the 1960s the government of the United States of America (USA) requested computer scientists to
conduct research into building communication via computer networks, (Wikipedia, 2016).This
research gave rise to the origins of the internet which is now regarded as a global computer network
that provides a variety of information and communication facilities. This global network consists of
millions of different types of computers that maybe desktop or mobile, hardwired or wireless and for
personal use or for business, (Dewdney and Ride, 2014). Rapid growth of internet use became evident
in western countries such as North America in the mid 1990 s while this growth was evident from the
late 1990 s in developing countries, (Wikipedia, 2016). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, those industries such as film, music and news have experienced a very deep impact
because the core product can be downloaded privately. Of these three, Di Maggio (2014) state that the
music industry has been the most challenged by the internet not only in relation to distribution but also
production. Waterman and Ji (2014) argue that like the newspaper industry, the music industry was
negatively affected because it was slow to adapt and capitalise on the efficiencies of digital
distribution and purchase.
Before the internet and digitalisation the major record companies such as Time Warner, EMI group
and Deca used distribution methods that involved consumers listening to the radio, buying vinyl
records or audio cassette tapes at music retail shops, reading about the music and artists in newspapers
or music magazines attending concerts and watching musicians perform on television, (Hracs, 2012).
In order to listen to the recorded music, consumers needed to have access to a radio, a player for vinyl
discs or audiocassette tapes and a television. They also needed to purchase music recordings in
available form at retail shops. Music artists such as Diana Ross and Nat King Cole signed contracts
with the major record labels and relied on the services provided by these companies to record,
promote and distribute their music, (McLeod, 2005). The companies provided specialised services
such as technical skills, recording studios with sound engineering, management,

The Lynching Of Lynching, By Ida B. Wells Barnett
Ida B. Wells Barnett: The Lynching of Lynching
During the latter 19th and early 20th centuries racism and racial segregation were considerable
problems. Mob violence, including lynchings were responsible for the deaths of thousands of black
men, women and children, often for crimes they had no part in or which were not even committed. Ida
B. Wells Barnett was born into slavery by James and Elizabeth Wells during the Civil War. She
attended Rust College, which was partly founded by her father in Mississippi. After Wells parents died
of yellow fever, she attained a teaching position at a local school by lying about her age. After some
time teaching she moved to Memphis with two of her sisters, where she acquired another teaching
position and continued her schooling at Fisk University. While her professional life was moderately
successful, her personal life was dismal, however, it is the very qualities that problematize her
personal relationships... that will impel her to undertake... a courageous crusade against lynching
(DeCosta Willis). Being a freed black woman in the south, Wells had firsthand knowledge of the
segregation and racial tension of the time. This knowledge and her experiences gave her insights about
the South that were crucial in her successful crusade against lynching and segregation.
Wells experiences living and writing in Memphis paved the way for her later, and more influential
time writing for the New York Age. Wells became active in the fight against

I would like to express a hearty recommendation for Alicia Panganiban for the American Association

Princeton. Since my father, Cullen I K Story taught at Princeton for ca. 25 years, I know the area and
the school very well. I also had the privilege of teaching with him in the summer language program
many years ago. Her training at Princeton will greatly benefit Alicia as well as her career goal of
ministering to girls and women, especially in her culture where women play subordinate roles to men.
In my estimation Alicia will well represent the commitment and thrust of PTS as well as the mission

several Greek and hermeneutics courses. I have been impressed by the vitality and vibrancy of her

Pink Ribbon Symbolizes Breast Cancer

when a wife, whose husband has been taken to Iran started to tie yellow ribbons around the trees in

11 years later when an AID activist looked at the yellow ribbons that represented the soldiers fighting
in the war, he turned the ribbons bright red representing blood. In 1990, the first breast cancer survivor

Emory University attracts me most for its abundant research programs provided for the undergraduate

  • 2. Education of Girl Child I ask you all so earnestly to open girl s schools in every village and try to uplift them. If the Conditions of women are raised, then their children will, by their noble actions, glorify the name of the Country. Swami Vivekananda Today s girl child will be the mother of tomorrow. As a mother she can give her child a sound nursing and capable upbringing. A woman has the maximum impact on the social, economical decisions making in the family generally. At micro level, educated woman help in making the whole family including the older family members, understand the values and importance of education, and at macro level, educated women add to the social and economical development of the nation. Girls education is like sowing the seed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the success of a person whether man or woman, education plays an important role. Education for the girls is more important as she not only builds the home but all routine responsibilities are taken care of by her. An educated woman not only helps in nourishing the family in a better way but can also help in earning. Rightly said that God made the mother because He could not be present every where. One could judge the degree of civilization of a country by the social and political position of its women Charles Fourier Education for a girl child means making the next generation well educated, full of virtues, free from the useless superstitions, confident and capable to do something good for the family, for the society and for the country as a whole. The present day girl is the mother of tomorrow. Give me good mothers and I will give you a great nation Napoleon She is the most crucial and reverend entity. She must be given all the necessary education. Ignoring her, keeping her illiterate means we are creating an illiterate and ignorant generation. So it is perfectly true that educating a girl child means educating a family.Development cannot be accelerated unless girls are given right education in right direction. Swami Vivekananda has rightly said, Educate your women first and leave them to themselves, then they will tell you what reforms are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of The Vedic Ritual On one hand, Brian Smith provides the definition that Vedic rituals refer to the rituals of the Vedic religion and later Hinduism surrounding the concept of Veda , which is defined as thought by some to merely signify a Hindu notion of absolute truth or truth in a general sense (Smith, 1989, p. 2). On the other hand, later in his book he refers to Marcel Mauss definition of magic ( Magic gives every outward appearance of being a gigantic variation of on the theme of causality...it s exclusive aim is to produce results (Smith, 1989, p. 36)), and from this he claims that from the definition the Vedic ritual can alternatively be called magic or a kind of science (Smith, 1989, p. 36). Jamison and Witzel argue that The central importance of elaborate ritual activity throughout the Vedic period cannot be overemphasized. However, it is also important to remember that our views of Vedic ritual are somewhat distorted by the chronology of the text types that concern the ritual. It is only at the very end of the Vedic period, in the Åšrauta SÅ«tras, that we have straightforward, detailed descriptions of ritual (Jamison Witzel, 1992, p. 29). In consequence, the meanings concerned in the practice of Vedic rituals may be overexaggerated by researchers due to the lack of understanding of the texts written about Vedic rituals. Interestingly though, throughout hundreds of years, the Vedic rites became more complicated and had developed countless rules that were entwined with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Sandro Botticelli Research Paper Sandro Botticelli (1445 1510) BIOGRAPHY Sandro Botticelli, short for Alessandro di Mariano Filipepi, was born on the 1st of March 1445 in The Republic of Florence which is now Italy. As a child he was easily bored in school and was known for his hyperactivity and love of practical jokes. At about fourteen years of age, he was withdrawn from his school and became an apprentice. He first worked for Maso Finiguerra as a goldsmith for 3 years but soon became an apprentice to the artist Fillipo Lippi at around the age of 17. From Fillipo Lippi he learned to paint more intricately and with more detail. He then worked with Antonio del Pollaiuolo, painting frescoes on Florentine cathedrals and churches. At around 22 years of age he had his own workshop and was appointed to the confraternity of Florentine painters in 1472. He then employed Filipino Lippi, son of Fillipo Lippi as an apprentice. In 1481 it was requested by the Pope that he come to Rome to decorate the walls of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, which had just been completed. He painted frescoes of the life of Moses and the temptations of Christ. This was 30 years before Michaelangelo s famous ceiling frescoes. He was very highly regarded around this time. ... He died on May the 17th, 1510 at the age of 65 in Florence, his place of birth. • 5. Sir Laurence Olivier s Richard III versus Ian McKellan s... Sir Laurence Olivier s Richard III versus Ian McKellan s Richard III INTRODUCTION It seems that modern Hollywood filmmakers are as much in love with Shakespeare s plays as were the 16th century audiences who first enjoyed them. Recent updates of Hamlet (1996) and Romeo and Juliet (1996), both highly successful movies, bear this out, as well as the two best film versions of Richard III; Sir Laurence Olivier s 1954 period piece , and Ian McKellan s more modern interpretation (1995). In McKellan s Richard III, we see Britain in the late 1930s, at the end of a savage civil war between the House of York and the House of Lancaster. This version works for a number of reasons: 1) it is made for a modern audience; 2) the social and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is done in the modern style, with lots of action and movement, primarily using existing buildings as sets, instead of rebuilding them on soundstages. Every scene is alive with movement and detail, a quality that is sadly lacking in Olivier s version. The setting is Britain, but a Britain very much of the late 1930s. This much can be seen at once. Richard s opening soliloquy is broken in half; the first half is spoken into a microphone before a crowd of merry makers at King Edward IV s victory celebration. However, just as Richard reaches Grim visag d war has smoothed his wrinkled brow , and the soliloquy becomes more a description of Richard s plans, we cut away to Richard, alone, in the men s room taking a piss. As Richard relieves himself, he continues his soliloquy. Clearly, the movie is not above using anything including Richard s bathroom habits to move the story along. A perfect fit for today s audiences. 2. Background When Olivier made Richard III, he had to work within the bounds of the 1950s, which makes it difficult for modern audiences (myself included, I m ashamed to say) to stick with the movie until the end. The things that get audiences going nowadays are basically sex and violence (hopefully with a decent story keeping them together). Olivier s version has very little of the former, and I think that he wouldn t have put them in even if he could. I have seen several of his movies, and he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Motivation And Motivation For Academic Achievements It is important for everyone especially students to do well in school because it reflects in the foundation of their accomplishments in life. Students are affect their ability to move to the next level when they fail to complete some requirements. It takes many factors to motivate individuals to continue on striving for academic achievements. (Higgins, 2008) It is said that motivation gives big contribution in one individual s success. Motivation is defined as the organized patterning of three psychological functions that serves to direct, energize, and regulate goal oriented activity: personal goals, emotional arousal processes, and personal agency beliefs. It is an interactive construct representing the direction a person is going, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In conformity with the social norms, people learn by imitating others. However, people don t learn only the acceptable social behaviours, they may also learn beyond the norms behaviours. Knowledge gained in this way will have the chance to be transferred to another situation. This may continue all the time and everywhere. In the same vein, we can argue that students spend most of their time by learning. This can happen in different situations. It can be seen in groups while with others. (Woldetsadik Lumadi, 2014) In a school situation students continuously engage themselves in the learning process. It can be observed when they do assignments, read books and do other related academic activities. Obviously, this is a regular process exercised by most of the students in schools. However, the habit of doing these things can t happen at a time. It needs careful observation and systematic exercise. All these efforts lead students to make their own meaning/understanding of the activities. Besides, it enables them to reach at a level of sharing their own experiences and to become a continuous process. In view of this, Battersby and Gordon (2006) have cited some of the specific situations that can develop experience within the school context. They stated varied sources of experience. They believe that the identification of best characteristics of both teachers and students, either in group or individually, in the first place ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was founded by David McConnell as California Perfume Company in 1886 and changed its name to Avon Products in 1939. It entered China and pioneered the direct selling method in 1990 and became a global name brand in beauty product around the same time. With operations in over 45 countries and a market spanning over 135 countries in Europe, Australia, Asia and America, Avon set the standard of what it means for a company to be global. Case Questions 1. In what way does Avon follow a global strategy? Does this experience indicate that it should pursue a different strategy? Avon pursues economies of scale by choosing facility location that minimizes the cost of manufacturing, logistics, etc, and it does so on a global basis. Avon also limited product variations which save the company from spending extra money and it also balances the cost saving potential of standardization with responsiveness to individual market needs in pursuing both profits and market share. • 8. Related To The Golden Ratio This short report and presentation related to the Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio has interested mathematicians for a long time. The Golden Ratio is a special number that is defined mathematically from which produces 1.618033989..., commonly used as the approximation 1.618. There is interesting fact that digits just keep on going to infinity, with no pattern. Mathematically, the Golden Ratio is tends to be an irrational number. Two numbers tend to be golden if the ratio of their sum to the bigger number is equal as the larger to the smaller number. In other words, this relationship could be expressed with the following equation: In the case of a rectangle, if k is the length of the longer sides, whereas m is the length of the shorter sides, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Historically, this number can be found in the architecture of many ancient buildings such as the Parthenon and the Great Pyramids. Some investigations of the Acropolis, including the Parthenon, established that majority of its proportions mostly are close to the golden ratio. It could be concluded that architects knew the golden ratio, that is why classical buildings and their elements are proportioned according to the golden ratio. The design of the Parthenon was created according to the Golden ratio, as illustrated in the picture 1. Another famous example of usage the Golden ratio in architecture is the Acropolis of Athens. The dimensions of the Great Pyramid of Giza, which is approximately 4,600 years old, are also based on the Golden Ratio. When it comes to art, there are several illustrations, which can prove that the Golden ratio is used in the arts as well. For instance, Leonardo da Vinci s paintings in De Divina Proportione (On the Divine Proportion) and Mona Lisa employ the Golden ratio in their geometric equivalents. Also Mondrian used the Golden number in his masterpiece as well as Salvador Dali in his The Sacrament of the Last ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Differences Between Weak Impermissibility And The... In the aforementioned studies, an asymmetry is found between the footbridge and the bystander cases which suggests that there is an independent reason to remove any asymmetry in the personal bystander and footbridge cases. The results showed that participants were aware of the difference between weak impermissibility and all in impermissibility. In the first experiment, about 70% stated that is was not acceptable to violate a moral rule and all things considered both in the personal footbridge case. We can see a recognisable distinction in personal and moral cases, but this was not addressed in these experiments. In addition, a philosophical understanding tells us that when a rule is broken, it is wrong to go ahead with that action (e.g. Fried, 1978). It is clear then from both experiments that a difference between weak and all in permissibility is not evident (Nichols Mallon, 2005). The results show that some people think that it is acceptable to breach a moral rule, even one that allows killing innocent people. This reinforces the idea that people are not absolute deontologists, and this is similar to the issues observed in the catastrophe case. What is notable about the results is that people appreciate the recognisable difference between weak and all in impermissibility. Moreover, the results show an independent mechanism for two underlying ideas relating to moral judgement. One shows that people are able to minimise bad outcomes and the other shows people have a set ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Against Universal Health Care Universal health care is a program where every one in the country has medical coverage for surgery, illness, and treatments that would cause problems with your health. The United States is currently the only industrialized country that has no universal health care. Universal health care is a controversial topic because people don t know if they want it here in the United States. Some reasons why people might want it is because it gives everyone coverage as long as you are a citizen of that country. A reason why you would not want a universal system is because the coverage you get may not cover certain operations. Although universal health care may sound appealing, it actually has flaws. Every patients main concern when going to a hospital is to get a surgery to fix a problem that they have, or to receive prescriptions for illnesses and diseases. But a factor most probably are not worried about when they go to a hospital is how they are being treated. Doctors already have a difficult task to perform, but overcrowding the hospitals will cause them to be busy and possibly conduct their job with out the amount of care that is required. Giving out prescriptions in a hospital could also be effected. Patients vital medicine could be mixed up with someone else s and cause even more harm. The wait time in a hospital for an operation is also effected by over population. In the United States there is already about a 2 hour wait time in each hospital that you go to (Mortal Peril). Adding a universal health care system would only cause that time to increase. There are some cases where the operation cannot be delayed because of excessive bleeding or a lady about to give birth. Both of these examples need to be treated within a certain amount of time or the patient could possibly die. It all has to do with languages and how each island or country speaks their own tongue, but all are similar in some way. In class I have examined historical and contemporary language use throughout the Pacific Basin, as well as in Hawai`i. Through exploring topics such as the effects of language contact, pidgins and creoles, and stories of language loss and preservation, and different cultures. The first concept I am going to talk about is language borrowing. Language borrowing is basically when you loan a word that is imported into a certain language called loan form. These forms now function in the grammatical processes, with nouns taking plural or possessive forms of the new language receiving native morphemes. An example would be the English word alligator. Alligator came from the Spanish which is el largato. El largato in Spanish means lizard. Loanshift another process that occurs also known as calque is when adapting native words to the new meanings. The verb bad mouth . . . is a calque or loan translation: it seems to come from Vai day ngatmay (a curse; literally, a bad mouth ). The second concept I am going to talk about is language endangerment. Language endangerment is basically when the language is at risk of becoming extinct in the near future. In this essay I will be looking at the theory behind using a therapeutic story and relating it to my process of using one with my client. Sunderland (2000) states that stories can be an important part of therapeutic tool kit, as a vehicle, through which a child can process troubled feelings. Sunderland (2000) adds that children can often find it difficult to put their feelings into words, as their natural communication method is through images and metaphors. A therapeutic story can express those feelings in child s language and help the child to build trust that her feelings are understood, which then will help the child to share her own feelings. Sunderland (2002) also advises that there are four ways a therapeutic story can work; It can present the child options that she can use when coming across an obstacle, it can present new ways and solutions of dealing with problems that might have felt unsolvable, it can show ways of coping with emotional problems, and it can provide options for new ways of being. With God s love and perfection He is able to use us, the imperfect, to carry out His will. We have all sinned and continue to ask for forgiveness when needed. Although we are not perfect, God still has a plan for our lives and it is our duty to follow out His will. In the Old Testament there are books of history, which discuss God s use of some imperfect individuals to accomplish His purpose for Israel. There are twelve books exactly that deal with the history of the nation of Israel and how God accomplished His goals. These twelve books are Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1st and 2nd Samuel, 1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. These books share a prophetic view of history describing how the obedience or disobedience of God s people is directly tied to the blessings and curses of the covenant. The first of these books is Joshua. In this book, the possession of the land by the nation is the main point. It tells us the story of Israel s arrival at Canaan, otherwise known as the Promise Land, while under the leadership of Joshua. God appoints Joshua as a leader and that he will never leave him or forsake him. Joshua stood strong in his faith, his obedience to God, and he was courageous. • 21. Siddhartha Gautama The Buddha And His Journey, The Epoch... The story of Siddhartha Gautama is one of renunciation from a life of privilege and wealth to that of monastic asceticism, driven by an innate desire to reach enlightenment through the banishment of suffering and spiritual emptiness (Wattananarong). Gautama left behind wealth and nobility in order to cease his own suffering and upon achieving his own enlightenment, provided a path for others to follow. Following his enlightenment, Gautama came to be known as the Buddha and his journey, the epoch of Buddhism. Unaccepting of some social and cultural practices of the time, the Buddha was openly critical of the Hindu Brahman s possessiveness and almost secretive knowledge of the Veda texts; sharing this knowledge only with their son s, assuring their family s position socially and spiritually(Wattananarong). Accordingly, he proposed the solution to the cessation of one s suffering should be available to and for everyone, rather than to an exclusive few based on if one becomes a Brahma or Outcaste by birth, one becomes either by living well or living badly (Wattananarong). For this reason, he rejected the caste system predicated on the belief that all people are equal and have a right to choose how to live their lives, thereby making decisions about their future and potentially reduce or eliminate their own suffering. Hence, based on Buddha s rejection of predetermined privilege and entitlement of enlightenment for some, while denying others, it appears implausible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The sacred is thus projected onto this profane object and despite it merely being a piece of fabric it represents much more to the people. It represents the feelings of patriotism and community and closeness (Cuff et al. 2006). A totem is a profane object or animal that is seen as sacred, and is worshipped by all members of a religious society. Because all the individuals of a religious society follow the same duties and rituals associated with the totem, they are morally bound to one another (Giddens, 1972, pg. 227). He theorised that religion and ritual produced categories of understanding ; the basic categories, which cover the ways in which objects are perceived; for instance all objects can be seen to occupy time and space. These categories are also perceived in the same way by all the members of the society, so religion also influences the very basis by which people think about the world. The concept of moral unity is still observable in religious communities today, especially in smaller cultures. However, larger industrialised societies tend to be more divided and there are more varieties in belief in a given society. Furthermore, the increase in secularisation has meant that the functional aspects of religion, as outlined by Durkheim have not had an effect on those who are not religious.
