Essay On Racial Disparities
Experiencing racial disparities can permit an increasing level of stress over the years, yet buffering
mechanisms can be used to decrease the impact of adverse experiences. Based on Brody et al.
(2006) study, results indicated that race related stress from allostatic load was not significant for
youth with high emotional support. Accessing emotional supportive networks of family and peers
can help readjust behavior and counterbalance cognitive trajectories that reduce anxiety and stress.
Another buffering tool can be offered from a parent or caregiver, by providing an informative
introduction of discrimination. Comprehension of societal variances allows children to obtain
cognitive skills, which they are able to build awareness that can help distinguish discriminatory
treatment and gain a greater perception of others cognition (Bynum et al. 2014). Also,
understanding one s environment may allow for more emotional control and self regulation
(Mayas, 2006). Children can easily distinguish and be more aware their surrounds, in order to ...

The exposure to community violence exists among various socioeconomic, cultural, and racial
groups. But, African American low income youth in urban communities has displayed to be
substantially in jeopardy of being exposed to violence in their community compared to other
populations in the United States (Stein et al. 2003). Furthermore, adolescents were more commonly
exposed to community violence than younger children. Children tend to navigate close to home
where a parent or caregivers are shadowing them. Nonetheless, adult supervision can be inconsistent
and portray negative behaviors or influences in the home or daycare, which can influence a child
through observation. Especially, if a child is unsupervised and/or positioned in an unstructured
setting, he or she is more susceptible to violence (Goldner et al.

General Douglas Macarthur s Duty, Honor, Country
Duty, Honor, Country When presented with an award or medal you are expected to give a little
speech. Nothing extraordinary just a few words to thank people. General Douglas MacArthur went
above and beyond when he was presented the Sylvanus Thayer Award. He gave this speech at West
Point, which the was superintendent of, on May 12, 1962. The speech was entitled Duty, Honor,
Country. The begins his speech with addressing his award and then the begins talking about the
individual soldier. He states the qualities a soldier must have in order to complete his/her
objective. Bravery and honor were stressed in this speech. The use of ethos, pathos, and logos

The New York City s Government
New York City Government
New York City is the largest and one of the oldest cities in the United States, having been
rediscovered by Henry Hudson in 1609 while working for the Dutch East Indies Company. New
Amsterdam, as it was then known, was settled in 1614 by Dutch fur traders and became the most
important port in America. (Reed, 2011) The two rivers flowing on each side of Manhattan grant
easy access to the ocean, and Henry Hudson remarked that the harbor was the best natural harbor
he had ever seen in the world. For hundreds of years the city has been at the epicenter of world
trade, and immigration to the new world. Millions of immigrants have filled the streets of New
York, from Europe, Africa, South America, Asia, and elsewhere.
The city of New York has not always had as positive of a city government as the city s history
may suggest, however. It has had a mixed political system since its beginning, with its democratic
principles in question as corruption has taken hold of the city from time to time. Boss Tweed, a
notorious mayor from the 1860s, was so corrupt he was openly the mastermind of the city for thirty
years. His huge profit margins as a result of his control over the streetcar transportation system in
that time prevented the New York subway from being built until 1910. The Italian immigrants who
came from Sicily maintained traditional family ties, which soon became the American Mafia, which
controlled crime in the city from the 1920s until the

Sherman Alexie s Life Analysis
On Christmas day, a thirteen year old boy opens a gift from his mom. With excitement and joy
the boy receives his first guitar, an Ibanez electric. The boy plugs the new guitar into a solid state
Marshall amplifier and makes noise. Not knowing any chords or how to play, that moment of
creating sounds and feedback on his own. He formed a passion and love of the instrument for many
years to come. The musicof Jimi Hendrix, The Velvet Underground and The Rolling Stones filled
his head. He wanted to be like the masters, so he practiced every day and took lessons when he
could. With persistence and love for music, the boy learned chords and scales and started to create
music of his own. Guitarchanged his life and made his hard upbringing better. The struggles, his
mom had raising a kid on her own. Working two jobs and being a single mom made her happy
knowing her son had a hobby and a love for music. Of course hearing loud guitar playing at 3 am

Self Presentation Is Described As Playing Out A Self
Spencer Cermeno

Bernie Mac Research Paper
17 October 2015
1.)Self presentation is described as playing out a self to the reaction and anticipation of others (p.
32). Men and women both modify their self presentation to the reaction of others. In a classic study
noted by Crawford of female college students who were provided with details of male students who
were either desirable or undesirable as a potential date and who was characterized as having
traditional or more modern values, According to the textbook the study found that, When women
thought they would have the opportunity to meet the man, they changed their descriptions of
themselves to fit the man s traditional or modern values but only if he was attractive (p.25). Self
presentation can be looked at as calculated choices, choices that are made under certain
circumstances in order to appeal to certain groups or others. For example, when Jordan overheard
his uncle Bernie and his friends making fun of him for doing gymnastics he decided to get into
basketball again to please his uncle. Another example is Briana, when her mother wants her to be
more tough and aggressive when she s out on the field she begins to do so because she s wants to
please her mother. According to the textbook doing genderis, the second level of the gender system,
and that, gender is created, performed, and perpetuated in social interaction (p. xix). The concept of
doing gender is not only creating and performing contrasts,

Cesare Beccaria And Jeremy Bentham s Aims Of Punishment In...
Introduction
During the eighteenth century, Cesare Beccaria and Jeremy Bentham formulated ideologies that
criticised the criminal laws in Britain and their focus on brutal penal punishment at the time. These
theories of the separate and silent systems dominated many prison designs in Australia in the
nineteenth century. St Helena Island was originally intended as a quarantine station beginning its
build in 1866, however, the Petrie Terrace gaol was becoming more overcrowded and the need for a
new prison became necessary. As a result, St Helena Island was declared a penal prison
establishment on May 14, 1867 by the Governor of Queensland. This penal establishment was
located on a small island 5km off the coast of Brisbane and was self sufficient and profitable,
considered to be a model high security prison of the time. However, to maintain this self
sufficiency, enforced isolation of the island and harsh disciplinary actions are what varied St
Helena Island penal aims of reform from Beccaria and Bentham s ideologies in Britain.
Background
Throughout the eighteenth century in Britain, severe punishments such as public hangings and
floggings were used in an attempt to stop the growth of crime (Picard 2009). Although, towards the
end of the eighteenth century, Beccaria and Bentham s philosophies were impacting the way penal
punishment was perceived with many people angry at the punishment for small crimes such as
theft. These changes resulted in moving away from the death

Who Was Responsible For The St. Bartholomew s Day Massacre
Why have historians produced such different accounts of who or what was responsible for the
St. Bartholomew s Day Massacre? August 25, 1572, marked the infamous day of the St.
Bartholomew s Day Massacre. The slaughter of Gaspard de Coligny and several dozen Huguenot
leaders, followed by the murder of thousands of people in the streets of Paris that day set off
tremendous shock waves throughout Europe. As Barbara Diefendorf points out, the massacre
provides a graphic illustration of the savagery of the religious strife in France at that time. The
question of responsibility of the Massacre has been much debated amongst contemporaries and
historians, each producing a different account of who was responsible. Whether it was Charles
IX, Catherine de Medici, the Guise family, and other primary political figures who instigated the
attacks, one will never know for certain. This is unfortunately due to the scarcity and the
unreliability of the contemporary sources. What this essay will aim to do is highlight some of
the main approaches historians have taken to answer the question who was responsible for the
St. Bartholomew s Day massacres? and what was responsible for the St. Bartholomew s Day
massacres? . I will also attempt to answer why historians have approached their arguments in such
a way. I will do this by focusing on the works of J. E. Neale, N. M. Sutherland, Mack Holt, Barbara
Diefendorf, Natalie Zemon Davis, Philip and Arlene Jouanna. Through analysing the works

community led, this involves everyone in their close community but also those from outside of the

able to revisit what they were doing the day before to further their understanding of what they

Children s journeys throughout education should be personal, and this is what the Montessori
approach achieves. From visiting a Montessori setting, the practitioners accomplished this as
they allowed the children to play individually Montessori thought working alone encouraged
children to become independent learners (M. Beaver, J. Brewster et all, CACHE Level 3
Childcare and Education). It is also important that they do plan times for the children to
socialize and work together as this will build their Social and Emotional development. By
providing individual learning journey books for each child, means that the child s key worker
can add notes and pictures to show to their family what they do at nursery, however these are
also available to take home and adapt them at home. E3: Maria Montessori was born in Italy in
1870. She wanted to become a doctor, so she enrolled at the University of Rome; however at this
time she began to develop an interest in children who were deprived; which at the time were
referred to as idiot children , this encouraged Maria into studying about those who were mentally
defective. Her interest then changed, and was focused into education. When she was fixed on to
this idea, she began to study the theories which were devised over the last 200 years. By 1900

Essay about The Revolutionary War
The Revolutionary War
The Revolutionary War started on April 19, 1775 at Lexington and Concord. America was very
much unprepared with no central government or army. The congress stepped up as the government
and began to organize an army. The Revolutionary War did not end until September 3, 1783 with
the signing of the final peace treaty between America and Great Britain. The victory in the
Revolution War led to the birth of a new independent nation. After the Revolution it was a time of
cooperation. People in the nation were focusing on building a government, migrating west and their
new found freedom. Military actions were more in surrounding areas mainly France, Mexico and
Britain. In 1798 was the XYZ affair, an event that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the first battle of the Civil War the Upper states in the South also seceded. Abraham Lincoln
was able to persuade Maryland, Delaware, Kentucky, and Missouri to stay in the Union. By doing
this Lincoln gained access to the river systems in Kentucky and Missouri that led into the heart of
the South. This control effected the 1862 invasions of the south, which provided the North with
most of its early military successes. The Civil War was total trench warfare. Technology was the
main event that influenced total trench warfare. Technology led to ideas such as strategy, weapons,
and transportation. It wasn t until 1865 the Civil War ended with the surrender of the South s army.
The Civil War was an event that impacted the United Statesgreatly economically, politically and
socially. This impact called for great reconstruction after the Civil War.
*Political Constitutional Developments After the American Revolutionended there was a debate on
if all ties should be broken with Britain. Support for American Independence rode strong up into
1776. Thomas Paine wrote a pamphlet, Common Sense. This pamphlet rebelled against King
George III and argues for complete Independence of the American colonies. On July 4, 1776, a
Declaration of Independence was adopted stating the colonies freedom from Britain. The time after
the Revolution was a period of political reconstruction. A time were State franchises were

The Importance Of Oppression In Social Work
Among an array of values from The Code of Ethics (TCE) of social work value 1 dictates that as
social workers we must respect the dignity of our clients and refrain from passing judgement
onto them (Canadian Association of Social Work, 2005, p.7). As a social worker, it is important
to follow this value as it prevents the distancing of the client from the worker as the client will
have a better chance of opening up to someone who does not instantly tell them what to do or
reprimand them for their actions or non action in their lives. Oppression relates to the TCE in that
it says the social workprofession s main purpose is to raise their clients who are vulnerable,
oppressed and/or living in poverty (CASW, 2005, p.7). Taking this into account the purpose of the
social work profession is for social workers to ensure the liberation of these individuals from their
ailments by empowering them to increase their self determination. Therefore, in the context of
heterosexism, social workers must follow their guidelines, which as mentioned by Johnson promote
social justice, cultural competence, and the acceptance of diverse identities and personalities
(Johnson, 2014, p. 748).
The oppression that the LGBT+ community faces even though is not as prevalent in the past
century, it is still a problem that many people experience. As shown by Woodford, Kulick, Sinco,
Hong, (2014) who observed the stress that microaggressions and discrimination from subtle
heterosexism can cause for LGBT+

Revolt Of The 18th Century
At the end of the 18th century, there were many revolts in the Spanish Americas, but these
insurgencies didn t have the intention to make these regions independent, in fact they fought
corrupt officials and the implementation of the Bourbon reforms, in the name of the king. These
revolts didn t evolve into movements of independence because of the remoteness of the cities that
they occurred in and the magnitude of the size of the Spanish Americas, the Bourbon reforms
weren t set in place at the same time in all corners of the territory, so people did not rise up against
them simultaneously, there were deep social divisions at the time, and the political theory and ideas
that these movements had weren t those of independence. Although this was true, a few decades
later during the 1810 s and 1820 s this Spanish domain, was calling for independence. This desire
came about thanks to French invasion of Spain and the capturing of the king which brought many
changes to the area. These changes include, the creation of juntas to maintain dominance in the
absence of the king, which gave the americanos a slight touch of sovereignty, the creation of the
Constitution of 1812 which allowed the freedom of the press, and made Spain a constitutional
monarchy, and the return to power of Ferdinand VII and the rejection of these changes which
caused social divisions between loyalists and insurgents. First, geography played a part in
preventing the revolts from the late 18th century to turn into

the second Red Scare had a greater impact is the fact that spies had infiltrated American security

Changes in Policy after School Shootings
Policies have changed since the shooting happened in Littleton, Colorado. Before Columbine the
primary goal of law enforcement officers before and during a shooting was to set up a perimeter
and await arrival of SWAT members (Erickson, 2001). This policy has changed in many states
including Pennsylvania where policehad been preparing for active shooters with local schools.
Police are not able to wait the twenty minutes to an hour for SWAT to arrive at a scene which is
why the state mandated that local police receive active shooting training (Coughlin, 2012). This
response and a brochure that the Department of Homeland Security came out with are allowing
schools a better chance of eliminating a shooter with less causalities and injuries. This brochure
goes into to profile of an active shooter, how to respond to an active shooter, how to respond when
law enforcement arrives, training staff for an active shooter, preparing for and managing an active
shooter situation, recognizing workplace violence, managing the consequences of an active shooter,
and lessons learned (DHS, 2008). Recommendations were made following the shooting to
implement a command center with personnel able to take command at the beginning of a crisis,
control assembled personnel, and to communicate objectives clearly (Erickson, 2001). This came
after the failure of law enforcement to set up a successful command center whereas Fire and EMS
successfully instituted an incident command center based on

Positive Effects Of Dental Implantation
Smoking cigarettes has a negative effect on a patient s oral health. A patient who smokes is twice
more likely to develop periodontal disease than a non smoker (Center for Disease Control and
Prevention, 2015). For patients who have lost teeth, dental implant can be a great solution. Dental
implants are pure titanium cylindrical posts which are placed in the maxilla or mandible on patients
to replace missing teeth. As healing occurs, a successful dental implant will osseointegrate into the

Dental implants are an excellent long term option for patients in good health who have lost teeth. A
prospective study published in the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants
reviewed two hundred and twenty three Branemark dental implants placed in seventy eight patients

had a significantly higher success rate of osseointegration than that of patient who smoked during
the early stages of dental implant placement. Smoking has been shown to compromise a patient s
healing potential after the initial implant placement (Williams, 1994). According to a study
published in the International Journal of Oral Implantology, there is a direct relationship between
patient who smoke and the failure rates of dental implants. The study conducted evaluated two

Igbo People In Things Fall Apart
One of Achebe s main points in the novel is that the Igbo people had their own complex traditions,
beliefs, and culture before the arrival of the Europeans. He does this by including proverbs, as well
as descriptions and examples of their: established social hierarchy, value system, devotion to gods
and ancestors, emphasis on hard work and and personal achievements that define masculinity,
rituals of harvest, and their democratic government consisting of the Council of Elders, the
egwugwu, the Oracles. Achebe also achieves this through language; throughout the novel, Achebe
includes the Igbo languagein contexts that name specific traditions and ideas that portray that their
culture was not primitive. For example, the word agbala, meaning... Show more content on

The blurb on the back of the book reads, Uniquely and richly African, at the same time it reveals
Achebe s keen awareness of the human qualities common to men of all times and places
(Achebe, 1959), perhaps why the book has been published in fifty different languages (Chinua,
2011, p.15). I agree with Achebe that people are similar in that they have fear, desires, and
aspirations. People make decisions based on their beliefs, emotions, and our personal experiences
and those of others, which may at times contradict one another and lead a disastrous end. Achebe
successfully evokes emotions to display human nature. Change, represented by the conflicts and
tensions within Igbo society as well as changes introduced by colonial rule and Christianity can be
devastating. Additionally, we see Okonkwo s internal struggles driven by his fears becoming like
his lazy father who dies with no titles and without honor, while attempting to achieve success. We

for fear of being thought weak. He did not sleep at night. He tried not to think about Ikemefuna, but

Quoyle, the main character in the novel, had a rough childhood which was one of the main
reasons towards his low confidence level. Quoyle would always get pushed around and walked

and usually on the floor where people step all over it, which is very similar to Quoyle as a

?This gave me an uneasy feeling, the feeling of standing on a playground watching others play

media, which casts the conflict in terms of Arabs versus black Africans. The reality is far more
muddled. It is a human tragedy, brewing for decades, that finally erupted into a vicious cycle of
violence in 2003.[1] The Darfur conflict is not only a problem for the Sudanese, but is also a
regional problem. The conflict is threatening the stability in other regions of Sudan, and in
neighboring countries like Chad, and the Central African Republic. Looking at its nature,
magnitude and internal dynamics that fuel it, one can see that, unless it is addressed soon, the
conflict has the potential to plague the whole region with a continuous cycle of violence and
lawlessness.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, regional and international actors have carried out several peace initiatives to end the
violence. The peace efforts that constitute the Darfur peace process include the N Djamena
peace negotiations of September 2003 and April 2004,[2] The Addis Ababa peace negotiations
of May 2004,[3] the Abuja peace negotiations of August 2004 May 2006,[4] and the Sirte peace

towards sustainable peace. Since the peace efforts began in 2003, every peace effort has been
followed by increased violence, and ultimately, the peace process has failed. Therefore, the key
research question that this paper sets out to answer is: Why did the Darfur Peace Process

Loss Of Children In The Stone Boy By Gina Berriault
The Stone Boy
Way too often we see kids who are neglected emotionally after a tragic event, and how negatively
it effects them later on. It forces them to give up their innocent childhood. That is exactly what
happens in Gina Berriault s short story The Stone Boy . The story is about a 9 year old boy who
accidently shoots his older brother dead. The boy shows no emotion, whatsoever, and it is clear the
grownups do not understand him, so he is labeled with words like cruel . He does not understand
his feelings and he loses his identity when his mother rejects him in a way no mother should. So he
is left alone, beginning to believe that he is actually cruel.
When we first meet Arnold, he is an innocent 9 year old child. There is nothing unusual about ...

When the accident happens, we see Arnold go into some state of shock and his actions after this
point are described as mechanically . This is a way for Arnold to shut off his feelings so he does
not have to feel the great grief of the loss of his brother. The Sheriff and the parents misinterpret
his way of dealing with his sorrow, and instead they label the boy as cruel. Arnold is already in
between identities because of the accident, which threw him out of the childish innocence, so he
needs his parent s guidance and comfort more than ever. He is very insecure, and in the interview,
he relies completely on his father s answers. However, when his parents believe he is cruel, he
thinks it must be right, so he takes on this new identity.
This new identity is described in the title as the stone boy , but this is not at all the boy we meet in
the beginning, so Arnold goes through quite a change in the short story.
There is also a transformation in Arnold s identity from day to night. In the daytime, we see a kid
who does not show any emotions. He does not seem to regret his brother s

Whether Aphrodisiacs Pose A Mental Or Physical Stimulation...
Aphrodisiacs in the Body and Mind
An Aphrodisiac is defined a substance such as foods, drinks, or drugs, that cause or increase sexual
desire (Aphrodisiacs, n.d.). This paper will investigate whether aphrodisiacs pose a mental or
physical stimulation on the human body. It has been recorded that in multiple points of history,
many things were considered aphrodisiac, some of these things include potatoes. Aphrodisiacs
have Greek origins, deriving from the Greek word aphryodisiakos meaning sexual gem with
aphrodisiac properties, from aphrodisiac heterosexual pleasures form the neuter plural of
aphrodisios of Aphrodite; greek goddess of love and fertility (Aphrodisiacs, n.d.). The first
aphrodisiac recorded in human history was body odor, and potions were sold in ancient Rome.
Aphrodisiacs were considered a threat to chastity after the Roman Empire ended, which prompted
the church to outlaw several aphrodisiacs. Western civilizations such as the Incans and Aztecs used
aphrodisiacs for reproductive purposes and Asia utilized plants and insects as aphrodisiacs in order
to increase their sexual libido. Aphrodisiacs have shown to be dynamic in culture and practices,
and also in the utilization within diverse groups of people. Aphrodisiacs remain a topic of study
for researches today, as they explore how various senses of the body affect sexual arousal. Asia is
believed to be the top consumer of aphrodisiacs, while other countries believe the concept of

How Did The Big Bang Theory Exist
Stephen Hawking, a physicist cosmologist, and dreamer, main goal has always been to find out
how the universe works and to determine why it exists at all (Hawking). To accomplish this goal,
he creates a theory that explains the origin of the universe and the steps leading to the formation of

approximately 400 billion stars. In fact, the Earth and everything around us are made by stars

Benefits Of Buying For Buying Goods
When going to the store and buying items such as food, toiletries, and other house hold items
bargain hunters will attempt to save as much money as possible. Many of these items are essential
to the modern way of life and because of this a substantial amount of money is spent on purchasing
these items over the course of a lifetime. Bargain hunters will spend the time needed to locate better
prices or cut coupons in the attempt reduce the costof these needed items. Another method used to
save money may be buying produces in bulk form stores like Sam s Club or Costco. Buying in
bulk allows the consumer to purchase a large amount of the item at a lower overall pricethan buying
the same amount of the product individually. An additional way bargain hunters use to save money
is buying generic brands. Generic brands are inferior goods that offer the same functionality as
name brandgoods but often at a lower price. This provides shoppers with options that allow them
to either save money and buy the generic goods or purchase the name brand goods. On the other
hand, the buyers that do not want to spend the time to clip coupons, wait for products to go on
sale, or that wish to purchase name brands are retail only buyers. Same buyers may choose to
purchase products at the normal retail price because they do not wish to expend the time required to
locate the best price on products that they wish to purchase. Another benefit of this is that retail

An infant who is breastfed receives added health benefits compared to a child who is formula fed.
In the first few days after birth, the breast milk is comprised of protein, vitamins A and E, and
antibodies which help protect the infant from infection. After the first few days, the mature breast
milk contains fats and cholesterol, which are essential for the growth and development of the infant
s nervous system, eyes, and brain. It also contains micronutrients calcium and magnesium, which
are beneficial to the infant s growth (Thompson et al., 2010). Because of all the healthy components
to breast milk, there is significant research showing that children who are breastfed have reduction
in diseases, healthier bodies and mouths, and long term health benefits as well.
Research has shown that one of the greatest benefits is a reduction in Type 1 and 2 diabetes. It
has been shown that children than develop diabetes have had little or no consumption of human
milk. It has also been revealed that children who were fed cereal before four months of age are at
a greater risk of developing Type 1 diabetes. Infants who are exclusively breastfed also show a
reduction in Chron s disease, ulcerative colitis, Hodgkin s, leukemia, and some childhood
lymphomas as lifelong conditions. Because human milk allows for longer maturing of the infant s
stomach, there are fewer incidences of asthma and allergies (Ryan, 2012).

Essay On Homelessness In The United States
Homelessness in the United States
During the 1980 s the number of homeless people, those without a house in which to reside,
increased at an alarming rate. Many analysts have given much time and thought as to the reasons
that this phenomenon occurred. They cite economic instability and government policies with facts
and figures to support their work. Beyond the research and cold statistics that explain this event, are
the victims, and those that worked to help relieve their hardship. An interview with Philip Guerrieri

The Change Clause In Government Contract Law
Contract clauses can cover many facets of commercial and business interests; whether it be
government or civilian and can take on various forms. Contract clauses are enforceable under
federal and state laws as well as any other part of a contract. Out of all the general clauses confined
in Government contracts, the Change Clause would seem to be the most important. It stands in the
focus of the contractual arrangement with other clauses denoting to and borrowing its basic
practice as some usual way of doing things. By advantage of this clause, the Government is
permitted unilaterally to alter the contract and hold the contractor to perform under the unilaterally
changed contract. It is this important departure from the old concept of mutuality, with its pointed
inferences on the non governmental party, that sets the Government contract different from the
standard commercial contract. Incidentally, this rare arrangement is altogether to the disadvantage
of the contractor. The Changes clause affords for an equitable compensation, if it is fitting.

It can achieve this by managing the country and its problems in a decently proficient manner, taking

Comparing Romeo And Juliet 1996 To Zeffirelli s
The play, Romeo and Juliet, is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare in his early years. With
all of Shakespeare s success, it is surely not a shock to see his plays adapt overtime. From
Zeffirelli s 1968 version to Luhrmann s 1996 version, there has been a drastic change. Luhrmann
s 1996 version has taken on a modern perspective, not just within the setting but the costumes
and character personalization as well. Considering Luhrmann s 1996 version modern take on
the famous play, it would only make sense that the props would evolve to match Luhrmann s
modern setting. Swords were a major part of Zeffirelli s version in 1968, but when Luhrmann s
version came out, the sword disappeared and guns made an appearance. Nevertheless, both
weapons caused trouble and a mess, but the gun brought more chaos, screaming, and bloodshed.
Another prop which changed from Zeffirelli s version to Luhrmann s version was the horse.
Since Luhrmann s version took place in modern day, of course it would make sense to see cars
replace horses; but cars played a bigger role than any horse in Zeffirelli s version did. Luhrmann
used cars for the opening scene when the viewers were first introduced the the Montague family
and also for the car chase between Romeo and Tybalt. The props play a big role in movies, but so

signify his heroic and brave personality. Luhrmann executed the party scene well and got his

Narrative Essay On Waiting On God
Dreaming with God is a beautiful gift from Him, and although questions filled my limited mind,
my capacity to comprehend, I owe everything to the Lord whose grace and love abundantly flows.
A series of parabolic dreams and clear visions flooded my sleep nights, and what the Lord
apparently conveyed has created a mixed feeling of excitement and confusion.
Inquisitiveness to understand the mysteries of the night parables led me to dig deeper into His
word. But I couldn t seem to weave the thread together the way it should a sizeable amount of
thread was missing. Prayers for help and wisdom became my expressions and it was in this season
of waiting that I have learned a valuable lesson:
Waiting on God is not a passive move we have to deliberately seek His Word with an attitude of
meekness and rely on the Spirit of God to illuminate hidden things.
One specific dream has baffled me for a long time.
Looking at these two kinds of trees in the garden that were parallel to each other has created
curiosity within. The tree on the left was radiantly shining, abundantly flourishing with green
foliage and strong branches, which reflect goodness and vitality. The other tree on the right was
the exact opposite, dead and wilted, and not one leaf on the branches remains. While gazing on
these two trees, trying to analyze what I was seeing, I heard a voice that said the word nation .
The sound of this voice woke me up mystified. I prayed and sought the meaning of this dream,

an enormous brick building that I later learned was the Nevada Department of Wildlife, to
discover why the fish varied in size so notably a phenomenon I would not stop questioning. There,
I was told that fish have an evolutionary advantage, allowing them to grow proportionally to the
size of their environment. (I honestly had no idea what this meant at the time). Coined the

Communist Poland in the period 1956 1981.
After World War II, the official communist party dominated all aspects of Polish politics, which
soon became an issue with not only the working class of the country, but also the intellectual and
educated Polish community. Between 1956 and 1981, there was an emergence of workers

(Doc 4) The intellectual and party member support helped the workers movement gain serious
momentum. A major factor in the emergence of the workers opposition movement also was the
support of the Catholic Church and the Pope specifically. In September of 1976, the bishops of
the Catholic Church in Poland called for the government and party to fully respect civil rights and
conduct a real dialogue with society while also demanding that they stop all repression of workers
involved in the protests of June 1976. (Doc 5) The fierce and somewhat scolding tone in which the
demands are made show the Catholic Church s unwavering support for the Polish workers
opposition. It is not surprising, however, that a group of Catholic bishops would demand better
treatment for the Polish workers because, as members of the church, they would naturally be in
favour of social justice. The value of having the Catholic Church support the movement manifests
itself in the fact that the Polish communist party begins to require all teachers to tell students that
the pope is an enemy and dangerous man who only wishes to charm the crowd. (Doc 7) This
response to the pope s support demonstrates that the party itself realised that the church could have
tremendous impact on the turnout of the opposition. By the 1980s, a coalition of independent trade
unions, known as Solidarity, was established in Gdansk. The photograph of Lech Walesa and other

irrevocable passage of time and the loss of innocence attributed to it. While Thomas projects his
mature feelings into a nostalgic site of his childhood, Cummings takes a more detached approach
by telling a seemingly trivial, paradoxical story of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As individuals the lovers are ignored by mostpeople whose routine lives reflect the passage of time.
The only to notice the lovers and stray their attention from life s normal routine are the children,
who maintain their innocence, but who soon grow up and forget. Cummings has been noted for
this regular indulgence in the themes of love, birth, growth, dying, and their antithesis, (Wegner
48) as found not only in this specific poem playing the parts of the cycle of time but also in many
other of his works.
The poem is expressing the concrete and paradoxically its opposite through a play on pronouns.
Anyone lives in a pretty how town is the story of mostpeople and individuals, simultaneously a
joyous and sorrowful song (Turco 93). The title s ambiguity plays on the use of a hypallage:
rearrangement of syntax word order in a sentence (Turco 92). The title could be interpreted as
either anyone lived in a pretty how town or anyone lived in how pretty a town or how anyone
lived in a pretty town. The anyone could be nobody in particular or that particular person capable
of love. As Robert Wegner writes, [a]s and adjective modifying town, [how] is a superbly
descriptive word suggesting in one touch the typical town where all values must conform to
accepted regular decorum and procedure, a town whose people operate on rigid and mechanical
formalities: a how town ...With these two highly abstract words Cummings

A Study On The Luxury Hotel Industry
CHAPTER 4. RESEARCH
Overview
This chapter will discuss the methodology used to enhance the study, and justifies it as a fitting
process for the subject of the paper. This chapter opens explaining qualitative methodology and why
it is the chosen method for the study. Then, after, it details the process of data collection.
Qualitative Methodology
The research question of this study concerns how the luxury hotel industry can adapt to Chinese
conceptualizations and consumer behavior. As the study focuses on culture and values, and how
they are represented in Chinese actions and expectations, qualitative methods were determined to be
the best process to understand the issue. We find cultural studies are thoroughly grounded in
qualitative research due to its roots in disciplines such as anthropology. [Atkinson 2005]
Qualitative research is defined as a study that uses nonnumeric data in the form of words
(Schwandt, 2001), and provides an interpretive view that in comparison to quantitative research
provides different strategies of inquiry through techniques such as interviews, focus groups, and
ethnography. Qualitative methods allow the researcher to study individuals, consider and discover
processes, as well as learn about the general culture sharing behavior of the subjects or individuals
studied (Creswell 2009)
As the study focused on the impact culture has on consumer behavior, the method of qualitative
research chosen were interview styled questions. This is the best

The Convergence Of Old Media With New Media
This essay will be assessing the convergence of old media with new media through the examination
of their uses within the film Johnny Mnemonic (Longo 1995). Along with convergence theory, this
essay will touch on Dystopianism, Vincent Mosco s Myth , and the notion of Symptomatic
technology. It is the intention of this paper to cover each topic in turn, using them to pick apart
and examine the sample film. Johnny Mnemonic is the 1995 film adaptation of William Gibson s
short story by the same title. The film takes place in the year 2021 and follows the main character
Johnny, a Mnemonic carrier with a silicone implant in his head for storing data too sensitive to be

As in this example, Convergence relies extensively on the active participation of the medium s
users. In this vein, the producers of convergence media actively encourage users to explore and
make further connections between multiple media outlets, creating in the process, a shift in the
cultures of the users (Jenkins 2006). Convergence of media doesn t simply happen across various
media sources within one culture, but can also connect varying media outlets in differing cultures
simultaneously. Johnny made a phone call from Newark to Beijing via the Net. The Net is
convergent technology using electricity, video software to project a 3 dimensional version of the
internet that allows users to interact directly with the Net, audio adaptations to allow for audio
interactions with the servers, and a connection from the individual terminal to the main server of
the Net. The entire world which Johnny inhabits is comprised of convergent technologies. At the
start of the film, Johnny is awoken by an alarm that is controlled by a remote placed on the
headboard of the bed and originate in the television screen (Image 3a). This same screen is used
to check his messages (Image 3b) and make a phone call to his handler, Ralfi, setting the stage for
the rest of the film (Image 3c). Even the

Globalization Of The World, Advancement Of Technology And...
Introduction: Literature Review:
The globalization of the world, advancement of technology and sharing of information has led to
an increase of overseas students studying outside their home country (Sandhu Asrabadi, 1994). For
instance, the quest of seeking advanced knowledge and skills drove my personal pursuit of
academic knowledge in America and Britain, having been brought up and raised in Africa.
Advanced technology and sophisticated knowledge is part of the reason as to why students seek
education outside their home countries. Mori (2011) describes overseas students as transitioning
individuals who opt to reside in a foreign location in order to achieve their academic goals.
Living in a foreign land can be a challenging experience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is believed that this is a stage when young people attempt to find their independence and at the
same time struggle to become a productive member of society (Furham Trezise, 1983). Due to the
demands of cultural adjustments, overseas students are inclined to experience additional stressors
compared to other students (Mori, 2011). The response to stress for many students, as mentioned by
Robotham (2008), is poor academic performance especially among first year overseas students who
are more susceptible to stress. As a result of stress, physiological conditions such as impairment of
immune systems, heightened vulnerability to illnesses, physical tension, dysfunctions in pituitary
adrenal activities and cognitive fatigue can be experienced (Mori, 2011). Other adverse effects of
stress include increased alcohol consumption, smoking, heightened tendency to consider suicide
and low self esteem (Robotham, 2008).
Burns 2006, states that overseas students have a social, cultural and economic influence in the
national and local milieu, hence there is a need for their concerns to be meet if the society will
benefit from them. It is noteworthy to recognize that most of the past mental health research has
been conducted in America and Australia, while Britain has focused on non student immigrants
(Furnham Trezise 1983). However, previous studies reveal a shift of research

Essay on Women in Egypt
Women in the Hellenistic world
Women in the Hellenistic World Women s lives were improved and expanded in the Hellenistic
age more so than at any other time prior Greek history. Papyri from Egypt and Coele Syria have
led to the discovery of documents on marriage contracts, inscriptions of philanthropy, and the
daily lives of the women in that period. The Hellenistic woman changed in many ways. She
became more educated, more cultured, and she received domestic freedom and her new legal and
occupational advancements and a whole other myriad of news liberations. The ideal of the
Classical obedient Greek wife was turned upside down. She no longer had to be escorted to places
outside her home and to issue legal documents. She also could now ... Show more content on

On an epitaph there is inscribed: This dust hides Archedice, daughter of Hippias, the most
important man in Greece in his day. But though her father, husband, brothers, and children were
tyrants, her mind was never carried away into arrogance. (Lefkowitz and Fant, 16) This inscription
from the 5th century BCE shows how some women were remembered for good deeds done and
not just their duties as homemakers. It also recognized the humane side of the Classical Greek
woman. Philosophers and philosophies were developed in the Hellenistic period that allowed
women to join schools of thought that expanded their freedom. Education became available for
an array of Greek women in this time. A little before the Hellenistic age came to be, the ideas of
the loosening of social constructs for women were taking place that led to the foundation of other
schools of thought such as that of Epicureanism and Cynicism. But these ideas came from a
couple of the Classical philosophers. One example of this is a discussion between Plato and
Glaucon. The topic of interest to these men was that of the education of women. The point that was
made was that since there are only a couple of distinctions between men and women, i.e. physical
attributes and things like pot making and bread making although really only social constructs that
forced women to be engaged in these services day in and day out that would have made them better

Analysis Of The Poem The Of Mendoza Utilises Onofre...
It is fair to say that Mendoza utilises Onofre Bouvila as a character to be portrayed as a direct
parallel to the development and aspirations of Barcelona. This is expressed in the novel, since; it
is irrelevant how rich and powerful Onofre becomes. This is due to the fact that, he can never be
on the top table of the social ladder literally and figuratively, due to his impoverished upbringing
and working class background. corriГі hacia la mesa presidencial... Al llegar a la mesa advirtiГі que

Therefore, one can surmise that Barcelona will never be able to consider it as the most significant
and influential city in Spain. This is mainly due to the fact that, it has the smaller population and is
not the capital city.
This is further illustrated with Onofre at the end of the book. When Onofre disappears on his
flying machine it is Mendoza s method to demonstrate to the reader that Onofre has given up on
his aspiration of achieving the highest echelons of the social ladder in Spain. This could be
Mendoza s intention to show that Barcelona s aspiration to escape the suppression by the hands of
Madrid is dissipating. Los que alertados por el ruido de los motores habГan salido a los balcones o
habГan subido a los terrados vieron cГіmo la mГЎquina voladora desviaba sur umbo hacia el mar,
como si la empujara un viento repentino de poniente. This shows us that Mendoza is trying to tell
the reader that what happened to Onofre is not important to us. This could be a criticism by
Mendoza, about the vociferous nature of which Barcelona and Catalonia attempt to gain
independence from Spain. He achieves this denigration by displaying Catalonia s cries for
independence as falling on deaf ears. Hence Mendoza uses the character of Onofre to express his
point of view that the objectives Catalonia

Unit 11 Assignment 2 Cardiovascular And Transport Systems
Unit 11 Assignment 2: Cardiovascular and Respiratory Systems M2. Explain the need for a
transport system in a multi cellular organism There are two types of cellular organisms:
Unicellular organism Multi cellular organism Unicellular Organism A unicellular organism is a
single celled organism (one cell), which is to rely on the process of diffusion, when moving
different substances in and out of other cells, due to its structure it has a larger surface area in
comparison to its volume; this is because each organism is built for a specific function. However,
they transport materials such as oxygen and urea in and out of bodies, through diffusion and
osmosis. Multi cellular Organism A multi cellular is consists of more than one cell, it has a small
surface area, compared to its volume. This means that its structure is specialised to do more than
one function, especially exchanging surfaces, such as lungs, and transporting systems. Its
transportation system requires food and oxygen to be transported from one place to another. Why
do we need a transport system? The reason for having a transport system is because the single
celled organisms, also known as unicellular organism are small, meaning that they have a large
surface area, in comparison to their volume; a large surface area to volume ratio. As they are
known for having one cell, the substances diffuse through their relatively large plasma membrane.
This also means that they are able to diffuse

A Research Based On A Cross Country Data Essay
Mauro (1995) conducted a research based on a cross country data to evaluate causes of
corruption worldwide. In Corruption and Growth , he describes the relationship between
corruption and economic growth of different countries over the period 1971 1979 and 1980
1983. In his research, Mauro used indices related to corruption from Business International
Corporation which sells indices to banks, companies, and investors. The indices are based on the
responses of the BI s analysts from more than 70 countries, and they reflect analysts perspective
on conditions in a country. The indices have values between 1 and 10, and higher values
correspond to a better quality of institutions. Mauro has used nine indices, which, in his opinion,
are the best determinants of institutional efficiency: political change (a change in institutional
framework due to elections), political stability (disintegration of political activities), probability
of opposition group takeover (probability of the opposition to gain power), stability of labor
(possibility of labor disruption), relationship with neighboring countries, terrorism, legal system
(efficiency of labor environment), red tape (bureaucracy), corruption. Mauro separated those nine
indices into two groups based on how closely the indices are correlated. The first group is labeled
as bureaucratic efficiency and includes variables such as legal system, red tape, and corruption.
The second group of variables is labeled as political stability and

Roosevelt got polio at the age of thirty nine in 1921. FDR was very brave and courageous and

his legs. He was determined to get a cure, not only to help himself, but to help others who also

Even though Franklin D. Roosevelt has accomplished many things in his lifetime, he struggled
because of the polio. In 1905 he married Eleanor Roosevelt. She played a huge role in helping
Roosevelt through his polio diagnosis. Roosevelt was paralyzed from the waist down (Draper 20).
Roosevelt later became successful with the help of Eleanor.
Surprisingly, Roosevelt played a huge role in bringing attention to polio. Roosevelt established
the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis in order to get a cure for polio. Roosevelt
traveled to Warm Springs in Georgia and found that it helped polio patients with muscle
paralysis by helping increase blood flow and relieving pain from not enough movement. Later in
1926 he bought Warm Springs in order to turn it into a rehabilitation center for polio
patients(Draper 22). Roosevelt was elected governor of New York in 1928, so he gave
management of Warm Springs to Basil O Connor. O Connor s daughter had polio, so he took the

What If I Just Lost Weight Essay
What if I just lost some weight... says most girls once in their life. Woman are constantly putting
their bodies through awful diets and harsh workouts, just to become perfect in someone else eyes.
Woman and young girls see figures of other women with a double zero pants size and ask why
can t I look like that? Today society puts too much pressure on young women to have the perfect
body. What society needs to say is all women are beautiful, there is no such thing as the perfect
body. Today, women are putting down other womanfor being a size fourteen. The men in our
society are not helping either, by making a woman feel her body is not excepted, by saying they
have a preference of a woman. Images like this get stuck in the average Americans mind and
they start to paint a picture of perfection. Women tend to be judged on the basis of what they
look like, not who they are, and the more positive the evaluation, the more likely a woman is to
be valued by others... (Strelan, P., Hargreaves, D. May 2005). America has this problem today
because of the media, the objectification of woman, and how women carry themselves. Within the
Media The media takes a big part in how people in society get their image of perfect. From music
videos, TV, beauty pageants, magazines, and social media all contribute to building the image of a
perfect woman. There is no way to avoid seeing these types of images because everyday citizens
encounter these types of media throughout the day.

Stein And Stryker Summary
Stein and Stryker respond to two important challenges within the field: Stein responds to the
struggle of finding a methodology of historiography that allows for a distinction to be drawn
between popular conceptions and lived experiences of sex, gender, sexuality, love, marriage and
family, while Stryker unravels the complexity of the register of the discourse, specifically when
defining the taxonomies of gender, sex and sexuality.
The former is significant because given that sexuality and sex were considered to be parts of the
private sphere of the lives of individuals, it is hard to find reliable, primary sources on which to
base a historical timeline on. In addition, finding sources originating from both institutions of power
and individuals

The Diagnosis Of Heart Disease
DATA MINING IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF HEART DISEASE
Data mining as it has been established is simply a way of getting hidden knowledge or
information from data, the technique(s) employed search for concurrency, relationships, and
outliers in this data that they present as knowledge [4]. This knowledge can then be used in
different applications. Prediction is one of the ways that the hidden knowledge gotten from the
data can be used. The main aim is to use a large number of past values to consider probable future
[9]. Heart disease is the common term for a variety of diseases, conditions, and disorders that
affect the heart and the blood vessels [6]. Symptoms of heart disease vary depending on the type
of heart disease. Congenital heart disease suggests to a problem with the heart s structure and
function due to abnormal heart development before birth. Congestive heart failure is when the
heart does not pump adequate blood to the other organs in the body [8]. Coronary heart disease
or in its medical term Ischemic heart disease is the most frequent type of heart problem [24].
Coronary heart disease is a term that refers to damage to the heart that happens because its blood
supply is decreased; it leads to fatty deposits build up on the linings of the blood vessels that
provide the heart muscles with blood, resulting in heart failure. Heart disease prediction using data
mining is one of the most interesting and challenging tasks. Shortage of specialists and high

Cleft Lip And Palate Essay
Cleft lip and/or palate are facial and oral malformations that develop during the 1st trimester in
pregnancy. There are three possible conditions that can occur alone or even as part of a genetic
condition or syndrome. These include cleft lip, cleft palate, and cleft lip with palate. The diagnosis
of this condition is sometimes extremely different for parents to hear and the implications of how
the parents react can sometimes negatively affect how the baby develops. The research behind this
article places the importance on the father s role of development and how they cope with diagnosis
since mothers are normally the focus. The purpose of this article is to study the impact of the
timing of diagnosis (prenatal vs. postnatal) of cleft lip and/or palate and how this corresponds with
how fathers emotionally attach themselves to their infants. Parents who receive this diagnosis
might influence their child s psychological functioning and this study discusses major similar

An integrated study of the Mpenjati estuary beach system. (Biological component)
Abstract
A study was carried out to find the abundances of animal organisms between both sides of the
Mpenjati estuary. Zooplankton, Macro fauna, Meiofauna and Fish was sampled .Each of the
species that reside in the estuary contribute to the diversity of the area and are essentially driving
forces, ensuring optimal functioning of the ecosystem. The purpose of sampling such ecosystems is
to find out how the interactions amongst these organisms show a relation towards environmental
conditions and how they could be affecting the estuary in the abundances that they are found.

Macrofauna are benthic organisms and live in the sediment and have been greatly used over much
time as indicators of the environmental status in many estuaries and coastal systems. Fish thrive in
great abundances along the coast of the Mpenjati estuary and use the estuary as nursery sites for
juveniles as there is greater protection and more nutrient rich waters with greater food sources.
(Perissinotto et al, 2010).
The main aim of the Mpenjati estuary field trip was to retrieve biomass samples for further analyse
and to compare the organism s living on both sides of the estuaries berm.
Materials and methods
The Mpenjati estuary is a temporarily open/closed estuary which is located approximately 165km
Southwest of Durban. The river mouth is generally closed during the winter months and is
enclosed by a sand bar separating the saline rich ocean water from the fresh water river. The first
sample was obtained around 10:30 am and the last around 2:30 pm on the 4 of August 2012, all
samples was received from the beach side. The tide was currently low transitioning into a high tide
around 1pm. On field four sampling methods was carried out to retrieve the zooplankton,
meiofauna, macrobenthos and fish biomass samples respectively.
Zooplankton
Zooplankton in the surf zone of the beach was retrieved by gently filtering ocean water through a
20Вµm nylon mesh. Water was retrieved using a 125 litre plastic bucket and sieved through the
mesh, bringing the total volume of

Thermodynamics Of Mixing Of Poly Essay
Thermodynamics Paper: Thermodynamics of mixing of poly(vinyl chloride) and poly(ethylene co
vinyl acetate)
Introduction
The mixing of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and poly(ethylene co vinyl acetate) (EVA) is investigated
for its thermodynamic properties such as enthalpy of mixing and glass transition temperature. Both
the two pure polymers and the mixtures are investigated in terms of specific heat as well. The
mixing of PVC and EVA are investigated because of the possible use of EVA as a plasticizer for
PVC. The benefit of an EVA plasticizer would not having the need to introduce low molecular
plasticizers [1]. This paper will explore the enthalpy of mixing found throughout the various
mixtures and the indications of these values as well as the excess specific heats. Some applications
of EVA as a plasticizer is also explored.
Theory and Background
The miscibility of PVC and EVA is an example of a miscible blend of homopolymer copolymer.
This blend is made despite the immiscible behavior of the homopolymers. It as at certain ranges of
copolymer composition that PVC is able to mix with EVA, while being not doing so with
polyethylene and poly (vinyl acetate). It is possible that the two copolymer units repulsion forces
influence the miscibility based on copolymer composition [1].
Studies show that EVA is able to mix with PVC with a vinyl acetate content range of 45 to 85
wt%. Differences in results for the range are considered to be due to when the phase separation

  • 2. Essay On Racial Disparities Experiencing racial disparities can permit an increasing level of stress over the years, yet buffering mechanisms can be used to decrease the impact of adverse experiences. Based on Brody et al. (2006) study, results indicated that race related stress from allostatic load was not significant for youth with high emotional support. Accessing emotional supportive networks of family and peers can help readjust behavior and counterbalance cognitive trajectories that reduce anxiety and stress. Another buffering tool can be offered from a parent or caregiver, by providing an informative introduction of discrimination. Comprehension of societal variances allows children to obtain cognitive skills, which they are able to build awareness that can help distinguish discriminatory treatment and gain a greater perception of others cognition (Bynum et al. 2014). Also, understanding one s environment may allow for more emotional control and self regulation (Mayas, 2006). Children can easily distinguish and be more aware their surrounds, in order to ... But, African American low income youth in urban communities has displayed to be substantially in jeopardy of being exposed to violence in their community compared to other populations in the United States (Stein et al. 2003). Furthermore, adolescents were more commonly exposed to community violence than younger children. Children tend to navigate close to home where a parent or caregivers are shadowing them. Nonetheless, adult supervision can be inconsistent and portray negative behaviors or influences in the home or daycare, which can influence a child through observation. • 4. The New York City s Government New York City Government New York City is the largest and one of the oldest cities in the United States, having been rediscovered by Henry Hudson in 1609 while working for the Dutch East Indies Company. New Amsterdam, as it was then known, was settled in 1614 by Dutch fur traders and became the most important port in America. (Reed, 2011) The two rivers flowing on each side of Manhattan grant easy access to the ocean, and Henry Hudson remarked that the harbor was the best natural harbor he had ever seen in the world. For hundreds of years the city has been at the epicenter of world trade, and immigration to the new world. Millions of immigrants have filled the streets of New York, from Europe, Africa, South America, Asia, and elsewhere. The city of New York has not always had as positive of a city government as the city s history may suggest, however. It has had a mixed political system since its beginning, with its democratic principles in question as corruption has taken hold of the city from time to time. Boss Tweed, a notorious mayor from the 1860s, was so corrupt he was openly the mastermind of the city for thirty years. His huge profit margins as a result of his control over the streetcar transportation system in that time prevented the New York subway from being built until 1910. The Italian immigrants who came from Sicily maintained traditional family ties, which soon became the American Mafia, which controlled crime in the city from the 1920s until the ... The boy plugs the new guitar into a solid state Marshall amplifier and makes noise. Not knowing any chords or how to play, that moment of creating sounds and feedback on his own. He formed a passion and love of the instrument for many years to come. The musicof Jimi Hendrix, The Velvet Underground and The Rolling Stones filled his head. He wanted to be like the masters, so he practiced every day and took lessons when he could. With persistence and love for music, the boy learned chords and scales and started to create music of his own. Guitarchanged his life and made his hard upbringing better. The struggles, his mom had raising a kid on her own. Working two jobs and being a single mom made her happy knowing her son had a hobby and a love for music. Of course hearing loud guitar playing at 3 am at night can be aggravating at times. The mom knew she had created a brighter and a more artistic life for her son. • 6. Self Presentation Is Described As Playing Out A Self Spencer Cermeno 5000269 Bernie Mac Research Paper 17 October 2015 1.)Self presentation is described as playing out a self to the reaction and anticipation of others (p. 32). Men and women both modify their self presentation to the reaction of others. In a classic study noted by Crawford of female college students who were provided with details of male students who were either desirable or undesirable as a potential date and who was characterized as having traditional or more modern values, According to the textbook the study found that, When women thought they would have the opportunity to meet the man, they changed their descriptions of themselves to fit the man s traditional or modern values but only if he was attractive (p.25). Self presentation can be looked at as calculated choices, choices that are made under certain circumstances in order to appeal to certain groups or others. For example, when Jordan overheard his uncle Bernie and his friends making fun of him for doing gymnastics he decided to get into basketball again to please his uncle. Another example is Briana, when her mother wants her to be more tough and aggressive when she s out on the field she begins to do so because she s wants to please her mother. • 8. Cesare Beccaria And Jeremy Bentham s Aims Of Punishment In... Introduction During the eighteenth century, Cesare Beccaria and Jeremy Bentham formulated ideologies that criticised the criminal laws in Britain and their focus on brutal penal punishment at the time. These theories of the separate and silent systems dominated many prison designs in Australia in the nineteenth century. St Helena Island was originally intended as a quarantine station beginning its build in 1866, however, the Petrie Terrace gaol was becoming more overcrowded and the need for a new prison became necessary. As a result, St Helena Island was declared a penal prison establishment on May 14, 1867 by the Governor of Queensland. This penal establishment was located on a small island 5km off the coast of Brisbane and was self sufficient and profitable, considered to be a model high security prison of the time. However, to maintain this self sufficiency, enforced isolation of the island and harsh disciplinary actions are what varied St Helena Island penal aims of reform from Beccaria and Bentham s ideologies in Britain. Background Throughout the eighteenth century in Britain, severe punishments such as public hangings and floggings were used in an attempt to stop the growth of crime (Picard 2009). Although, towards the end of the eighteenth century, Beccaria and Bentham s philosophies were impacting the way penal punishment was perceived with many people angry at the punishment for small crimes such as theft. These changes resulted in moving away from the death ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Who Was Responsible For The St. Bartholomew s Day Massacre Why have historians produced such different accounts of who or what was responsible for the St. Bartholomew s Day Massacre? August 25, 1572, marked the infamous day of the St. Bartholomew s Day Massacre. The slaughter of Gaspard de Coligny and several dozen Huguenot leaders, followed by the murder of thousands of people in the streets of Paris that day set off tremendous shock waves throughout Europe. As Barbara Diefendorf points out, the massacre provides a graphic illustration of the savagery of the religious strife in France at that time. The question of responsibility of the Massacre has been much debated amongst contemporaries and historians, each producing a different account of who was responsible. Whether it was Charles IX, Catherine de Medici, the Guise family, and other primary political figures who instigated the attacks, one will never know for certain. This is unfortunately due to the scarcity and the unreliability of the contemporary sources. What this essay will aim to do is highlight some of the main approaches historians have taken to answer the question who was responsible for the St. Bartholomew s Day massacres? and what was responsible for the St. Bartholomew s Day massacres? . I will also attempt to answer why historians have approached their arguments in such a way. I will do this by focusing on the works of J. E. Neale, N. M. Sutherland, Mack Holt, Barbara Diefendorf, Natalie Zemon Davis, Philip and Arlene Jouanna. Through analysing the works ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within Reggio, they repeat their ideas and activities, so that the children are able to revisit what they were doing the day before to further their understanding of what they were doing, but also get help if they need it. Reggio also allows the children to direct their own learning, so if they do not fully understand what they are doing at the time, then they can go back and revisit it to make sure they understand it, however if the children are... From visiting a Montessori setting, the practitioners accomplished this as they allowed the children to play individually Montessori thought working alone encouraged children to become independent learners (M. Beaver, J. Brewster et all, CACHE Level 3 Childcare and Education). It is also important that they do plan times for the children to socialize and work together as this will build their Social and Emotional development. By providing individual learning journey books for each child, means that the child s key worker can add notes and pictures to show to their family what they do at nursery, however these are also available to take home and adapt them at home. E3: Maria Montessori was born in Italy in 1870. She wanted to become a doctor, so she enrolled at the University of Rome; however at this time she began to develop an interest in children who were deprived; which at the time were referred to as idiot children , this encouraged Maria into studying about those who were mentally defective. Her interest then changed, and was focused into education. When she was fixed on to this idea, she began to study the theories which were devised over the last 200 years. Abraham Lincoln was able to persuade Maryland, Delaware, Kentucky, and Missouri to stay in the Union. This control effected the 1862 invasions of the south, which provided the North with most of its early military successes. The Civil War was total trench warfare. • 13. The Importance Of Oppression In Social Work Among an array of values from The Code of Ethics (TCE) of social work value 1 dictates that as social workers we must respect the dignity of our clients and refrain from passing judgement onto them (Canadian Association of Social Work, 2005, p.7). As a social worker, it is important to follow this value as it prevents the distancing of the client from the worker as the client will have a better chance of opening up to someone who does not instantly tell them what to do or reprimand them for their actions or non action in their lives. Oppression relates to the TCE in that it says the social workprofession s main purpose is to raise their clients who are vulnerable, oppressed and/or living in poverty (CASW, 2005, p.7). Taking this into account the purpose of the social work profession is for social workers to ensure the liberation of these individuals from their ailments by empowering them to increase their self determination. Therefore, in the context of heterosexism, social workers must follow their guidelines, which as mentioned by Johnson promote social justice, cultural competence, and the acceptance of diverse identities and personalities (Johnson, 2014, p. 748). The oppression that the LGBT+ community faces even though is not as prevalent in the past century, it is still a problem that many people experience. As shown by Woodford, Kulick, Sinco, Hong, (2014) who observed the stress that microaggressions and discrimination from subtle heterosexism can cause for LGBT+ ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Revolt Of The 18th Century At the end of the 18th century, there were many revolts in the Spanish Americas, but these insurgencies didn t have the intention to make these regions independent, in fact they fought corrupt officials and the implementation of the Bourbon reforms, in the name of the king. These revolts didn t evolve into movements of independence because of the remoteness of the cities that they occurred in and the magnitude of the size of the Spanish Americas, the Bourbon reforms weren t set in place at the same time in all corners of the territory, so people did not rise up against them simultaneously, there were deep social divisions at the time, and the political theory and ideas that these movements had weren t those of independence. Although this was true, a few decades later during the 1810 s and 1820 s this Spanish domain, was calling for independence. This desire came about thanks to French invasion of Spain and the capturing of the king which brought many changes to the area. These changes include, the creation of juntas to maintain dominance in the absence of the king, which gave the americanos a slight touch of sovereignty, the creation of the Constitution of 1812 which allowed the freedom of the press, and made Spain a constitutional monarchy, and the return to power of Ferdinand VII and the rejection of these changes which caused social divisions between loyalists and insurgents. • 16. Changes in Policy after School Shootings Policies have changed since the shooting happened in Littleton, Colorado. Before Columbine the primary goal of law enforcement officers before and during a shooting was to set up a perimeter and await arrival of SWAT members (Erickson, 2001). This policy has changed in many states including Pennsylvania where policehad been preparing for active shooters with local schools. Police are not able to wait the twenty minutes to an hour for SWAT to arrive at a scene which is why the state mandated that local police receive active shooting training (Coughlin, 2012). This response and a brochure that the Department of Homeland Security came out with are allowing schools a better chance of eliminating a shooter with less causalities and injuries. This brochure goes into to profile of an active shooter, how to respond to an active shooter, how to respond when law enforcement arrives, training staff for an active shooter, preparing for and managing an active shooter situation, recognizing workplace violence, managing the consequences of an active shooter, and lessons learned (DHS, 2008). Recommendations were made following the shooting to implement a command center with personnel able to take command at the beginning of a crisis, control assembled personnel, and to communicate objectives clearly (Erickson, 2001). This came after the failure of law enforcement to set up a successful command center whereas Fire and EMS successfully instituted an incident command center based on ... • 18. Igbo People In Things Fall Apart One of Achebe s main points in the novel is that the Igbo people had their own complex traditions, beliefs, and culture before the arrival of the Europeans. He does this by including proverbs, as well as descriptions and examples of their: established social hierarchy, value system, devotion to gods and ancestors, emphasis on hard work and and personal achievements that define masculinity, rituals of harvest, and their democratic government consisting of the Council of Elders, the egwugwu, the Oracles. I agree with Achebe that people are similar in that they have fear, desires, and aspirations. People make decisions based on their beliefs, emotions, and our personal experiences and those of others, which may at times contradict one another and lead a disastrous end. Achebe successfully evokes emotions to display human nature. Change, represented by the conflicts and tensions within Igbo society as well as changes introduced by colonial rule and Christianity can be devastating. Additionally, we see Okonkwo s internal struggles driven by his fears becoming like his lazy father who dies with no titles and without honor, while attempting to achieve success. If one decides not to surmount their challenges they will suffer within themselves for a long period of time. Having confidence within is considered the greatest way to overcome suffering in life. The crisis in Darfur is not an accidental disaster, or a human catastrophe that humanitarian intervention can reverse or solve. The conflict is as not simple as presented in the media, which casts the conflict in terms of Arabs versus black Africans. The reality is far more muddled. It is a human tragedy, brewing for decades, that finally erupted into a vicious cycle of violence in 2003.[1] The Darfur conflict is not only a problem for the Sudanese, but is also a regional problem. The conflict is threatening the stability in other regions of Sudan, and in neighboring countries like Chad, and the Central African Republic. Looking at its nature, magnitude and internal dynamics that fuel it, one can see that, unless it is addressed soon, the conflict has the potential to plague the whole region with a continuous cycle of violence and lawlessness.... It has been recorded that in multiple points of history, many things were considered aphrodisiac, some of these things include potatoes. Aphrodisiacs have Greek origins, deriving from the Greek word aphryodisiakos meaning sexual gem with aphrodisiac properties, from aphrodisiac heterosexual pleasures form the neuter plural of aphrodisios of Aphrodite; greek goddess of love and fertility (Aphrodisiacs, n.d.). The first aphrodisiac recorded in human history was body odor, and potions were sold in ancient Rome. Walt was one out of five children, four brothers and a sister. Their names were Herbert Arthur Disney, Raymond Arnold Disney, Roy Oliver Disney, and Ruth Flora Disney. Walt was the oldest one out of the five. While he attended school, he was introduced to Walter Pfeiffer, who decided to show Walt vaudeville and the art of making movies. Walt decided to drop out of high school, at the age of sixteen, to join the army. He was rejected to join because he was too young of age. He and a friend decided to join the Red Cross, where Walt was an ambulance driver during World War II. In 1919, Walt moved to Kansas City to begin a career in art, and worked for the newspaper, as a newspaper artist. He met Ubbe Iwerks, and he and Disney soon made their own commercial company called, Iwerks Disney Commercial Artists. • 35. The Change Clause In Government Contract Law Contract clauses can cover many facets of commercial and business interests; whether it be government or civilian and can take on various forms. Contract clauses are enforceable under federal and state laws as well as any other part of a contract. Out of all the general clauses confined in Government contracts, the Change Clause would seem to be the most important. It stands in the focus of the contractual arrangement with other clauses denoting to and borrowing its basic practice as some usual way of doing things. By advantage of this clause, the Government is permitted unilaterally to alter the contract and hold the contractor to perform under the unilaterally changed contract. It is this important departure from the old concept of mutuality, with its pointed inferences on the non governmental party, that sets the Government contract different from the standard commercial contract. Incidentally, this rare arrangement is altogether to the disadvantage of the contractor. The Changes clause affords for an equitable compensation, if it is fitting. The government plays a crucial role in uplifting a country and its development. It can achieve this by managing the country and its problems in a decently proficient manner, taking the right decisions at the right time, imposing rules and regulations and by setting up viable strategies to fight the obstacles coming in its way of advancement. Most of the developing countries tend to face similar problems and require serious governmentreforms in order to defeat them. • 37. Comparing Romeo And Juliet 1996 To Zeffirelli s The play, Romeo and Juliet, is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare in his early years. With all of Shakespeare s success, it is surely not a shock to see his plays adapt overtime. From Zeffirelli s 1968 version to Luhrmann s 1996 version, there has been a drastic change. Luhrmann s 1996 version has taken on a modern perspective, not just within the setting but the costumes and character personalization as well. Considering Luhrmann s 1996 version modern take on the famous play, it would only make sense that the props would evolve to match Luhrmann s modern setting. Swords were a major part of Zeffirelli s version in 1968, but when Luhrmann s version came out, the sword disappeared and guns made an appearance. Nevertheless, both weapons caused trouble and a mess, but the gun brought more chaos, screaming, and bloodshed. Another prop which changed from Zeffirelli s version to Luhrmann s version was the horse. Since Luhrmann s version took place in modern day, of course it would make sense to see cars replace horses; but cars played a bigger role than any horse in Zeffirelli s version did. Luhrmann used cars for the opening scene when the viewers were first introduced the the Montague family and also for the car chase between Romeo and Tybalt. Narrative Essay On Waiting On God Dreaming with God is a beautiful gift from Him, and although questions filled my limited mind, my capacity to comprehend, I owe everything to the Lord whose grace and love abundantly flows. A series of parabolic dreams and clear visions flooded my sleep nights, and what the Lord apparently conveyed has created a mixed feeling of excitement and confusion. Inquisitiveness to understand the mysteries of the night parables led me to dig deeper into His word. But I couldn t seem to weave the thread together the way it should a sizeable amount of thread was missing. Prayers for help and wisdom became my expressions and it was in this season of waiting that I have learned a valuable lesson: Waiting on God is not a passive move we have to deliberately seek His Word with an attitude of meekness and rely on the Spirit of God to illuminate hidden things. One specific dream has baffled me for a long time. Looking at these two kinds of trees in the garden that were parallel to each other has created curiosity within. The tree on the left was radiantly shining, abundantly flourishing with green foliage and strong branches, which reflect goodness and vitality. The other tree on the right was the exact opposite, dead and wilted, and not one leaf on the branches remains. (Doc 4) The intellectual and party member support helped the workers movement gain serious momentum. A major factor in the emergence of the workers opposition movement also was the support of the Catholic Church and the Pope specifically. In September of 1976, the bishops of the Catholic Church in Poland called for the government and party to fully respect civil rights and conduct a real dialogue with society while also demanding that they stop all repression of workers involved in the protests of June 1976. (Doc 5) The fierce and somewhat scolding tone in which the demands are made show the Catholic Church s unwavering support for the Polish workers opposition. It is not surprising, however, that a group of Catholic bishops would demand better treatment for the Polish workers because, as members of the church, they would naturally be in favour of social justice. The value of having the Catholic Church support the movement manifests itself in the fact that the Polish communist party begins to require all teachers to tell students that the pope is an enemy and dangerous man who only wishes to charm the crowd. (Doc 7) This response to the pope s support demonstrates that the party itself realised that the church could have tremendous impact on the turnout of the opposition. This chapter opens explaining qualitative methodology and why it is the chosen method for the study. Then, after, it details the process of data collection. Qualitative Methodology The research question of this study concerns how the luxury hotel industry can adapt to Chinese conceptualizations and consumer behavior. As the study focuses on culture and values, and how they are represented in Chinese actions and expectations, qualitative methods were determined to be the best process to understand the issue. We find cultural studies are thoroughly grounded in qualitative research due to its roots in disciplines such as anthropology. [Atkinson 2005] Qualitative research is defined as a study that uses nonnumeric data in the form of words (Schwandt, 2001), and provides an interpretive view that in comparison to quantitative research provides different strategies of inquiry through techniques such as interviews, focus groups, and ethnography. Qualitative methods allow the researcher to study individuals, consider and discover processes, as well as learn about the general culture sharing behavior of the subjects or individuals studied (Creswell 2009) As the study focused on the impact culture has on consumer behavior, the method of qualitative research chosen were interview styled questions. This is mainly due to the fact that, it has the smaller population and is not the capital city. This is further illustrated with Onofre at the end of the book. When Onofre disappears on his flying machine it is Mendoza s method to demonstrate to the reader that Onofre has given up on his aspiration of achieving the highest echelons of the social ladder in Spain. This could be Mendoza s intention to show that Barcelona s aspiration to escape the suppression by the hands of Madrid is dissipating. Explain the need for a transport system in a multi cellular organism There are two types of cellular organisms: Unicellular organism Multi cellular organism Unicellular Organism A unicellular organism is a single celled organism (one cell), which is to rely on the process of diffusion, when moving different substances in and out of other cells, due to its structure it has a larger surface area in comparison to its volume; this is because each organism is built for a specific function. However, they transport materials such as oxygen and urea in and out of bodies, through diffusion and osmosis. Multi cellular Organism A multi cellular is consists of more than one cell, it has a small surface area, compared to its volume. This means that its structure is specialised to do more than one function, especially exchanging surfaces, such as lungs, and transporting systems. Its transportation system requires food and oxygen to be transported from one place to another. Why do we need a transport system? The reason for having a transport system is because the single celled organisms, also known as unicellular organism are small, meaning that they have a large surface area, in comparison to their volume; a large surface area to volume ratio. As they are known for having one cell, the substances diffuse through their relatively large plasma membrane. This also means that they are able to diffuse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Drugs In America Research Paper Drugs in America Studies show that the rate of drug overdose has been a growing epidemic throughout the United States for decades (Rudd, 2016, p. 1323). The rate of deaths resulting from drug overdoses has increased by over 100 percent since the year 2000 (Rudd, 2016, p. 1323). The danger that drugs pose on nations are obvious. There has been a long history of drugs in the United States, leading to many changes in rules and regulations in regards to how they are handled. Furthermore, several controversial things have occurred over time such as the Controlled Substance Act of 1970 being passed, drug schedules and classifications, CSA regulations, and numerous ongoing debates related to the legal and medical usage of marijuana which have impacted ... Examples of Schedule IV drugs contain some stimulants, minor tranquilizers, and depressants (Belenko Spohn, 2015, p. 20). Lastly, Schedule V drugs are described as morphine, codeine, cough medicines, and anti diarrhea drugs containing opium (Belenko Spohn, 2015, p. 20). They are basically prescription drugs that have only limited risk of physical or psychological dependency and low potential for abuse (Belenko Spohn, 2015, p. 20). Without a valid prescription, it is illegal to possess any drug that is listed in the Controlled Substances Act Schedules (Belenko Spohn, 2015, p. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Water and Estuary An integrated study of the Mpenjati estuary beach system. (Biological component) Abstract A study was carried out to find the abundances of animal organisms between both sides of the Mpenjati estuary. Zooplankton, Macro fauna, Meiofauna and Fish was sampled .Each of the species that reside in the estuary contribute to the diversity of the area and are essentially driving forces, ensuring optimal functioning of the ecosystem. The purpose of sampling such ecosystems is to find out how the interactions amongst these organisms show a relation towards environmental conditions and how they could be affecting the estuary in the abundances that they are found. Samples was collected at different sampling stations were it was collected and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Macrofauna are benthic organisms and live in the sediment and have been greatly used over much time as indicators of the environmental status in many estuaries and coastal systems. Fish thrive in great abundances along the coast of the Mpenjati estuary and use the estuary as nursery sites for juveniles as there is greater protection and more nutrient rich waters with greater food sources. (Perissinotto et al, 2010). The main aim of the Mpenjati estuary field trip was to retrieve biomass samples for further analyse and to compare the organism s living on both sides of the estuaries berm. Materials and methods The Mpenjati estuary is a temporarily open/closed estuary which is located approximately 165km Southwest of Durban. The river mouth is generally closed during the winter months and is enclosed by a sand bar separating the saline rich ocean water from the fresh water river. The first sample was obtained around 10:30 am and the last around 2:30 pm on the 4 of August 2012, all samples was received from the beach side. The tide was currently low transitioning into a high tide around 1pm. On field four sampling methods was carried out to retrieve the zooplankton, meiofauna, macrobenthos and fish biomass samples respectively. Zooplankton Zooplankton in the surf zone of the beach was retrieved by gently filtering ocean water through a 20Вµm nylon mesh. Water was retrieved using a 125 litre plastic bucket and sieved through the mesh, bringing the total volume of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Thermodynamics Of Mixing Of Poly Essay Thermodynamics Paper: Thermodynamics of mixing of poly(vinyl chloride) and poly(ethylene co vinyl acetate) Introduction The mixing of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and poly(ethylene co vinyl acetate) (EVA) is investigated for its thermodynamic properties such as enthalpy of mixing and glass transition temperature. Both the two pure polymers and the mixtures are investigated in terms of specific heat as well. The mixing of PVC and EVA are investigated because of the possible use of EVA as a plasticizer for PVC. The benefit of an EVA plasticizer would not having the need to introduce low molecular plasticizers [1]. This paper will explore the enthalpy of mixing found throughout the various mixtures and the indications of these values as well as the excess specific heats. Some applications of EVA as a plasticizer is also explored. Theory and Background The miscibility of PVC and EVA is an example of a miscible blend of homopolymer copolymer. This blend is made despite the immiscible behavior of the homopolymers. It as at certain ranges of copolymer composition that PVC is able to mix with EVA, while being not doing so with polyethylene and poly (vinyl acetate). It is possible that the two copolymer units repulsion forces influence the miscibility based on copolymer composition [1]. Studies show that EVA is able to mix with PVC with a vinyl acetate content range of 45 to 85 wt%. Differences in results for the range are considered to be due to when the phase separation ...
