Research Paper On Earthquake
Natural Disasters Research Project Earthquake: San Francisco, California
Earthquake An earthquake is caused by a sudden slip on a fault. We know that tectonic plates move
slowly towards, away from or past each other. Continents are parts of these plates which means they
move too after time. An earthquake occurs when the rocks break and move as a result stresses
caused by plate tectonics. but sometimes they get stuck at their edges due to friction. When the
edges overcome Earthquakes are the most deadly of all natural disasters. When an earthquake
strikes, it can make a difference between life and death. If you survive an earthquake it s
something you ll never forget. Most of the time it s not the quake that kills people but the
building and the things inside it that fall down. It can destroy pipelines, gas lines that can cause
fire and zero electricity. Usually there are aftershocks for weeks or months. For example, the
earthquake that happened in San Francisco, California on October 17,1989. It was a really
destructive earthquake that killed people and billions of dollars in damages.
Description of The Event The earthquake that happened in San Francisco, California in 1989 was
an earthquake that was triggered by a slip along the San Andreas fault. The focus was in the Forest
of Nisene Marks State Park, near Loma Prieta peak in the Santa Cruz mountains. Northeast of Santa
Cruz and approximately 60 miles south of San Francisco. Seismicity

Energy Commission Information ( Eia ) Essay
The United States is the largest economy in the world. According to the World Bank its GDP is
approximately 16.8 trillion as of 2013. As the U.S. grows in population, so does the demand of
goods. Is the country heading towards greater prosperity or towards a dismal hole? Is the United
States practicing weak or strong sustainabilityand should we be worried about running out of non
renewable resources?
We all know what non renewable resources are economic values that cannot be replaced within a
reasonable time frame. According to the U.S. energy commission Information (EIA) Administration
the United States consumed approximately 6.89 billion barrels of petroleum in 2013. Now, 6.89
billion barrels of petroleum may seem like an overwhelming amount of oil, but according to the
EIA we should have enough oil to meet demands for the next 25 years. The EIA predicts that the
demand for non renewable resources will be met for at least 25 more years, but what happens after
that? Some people would argue that the U.S. has been sustained up to this point in time however
others would say the contrary. So, first I would like to define my interpretation sustainability as,
being able to meet today s demand, without compromising tomorrows . Under this definition I
believe that the U.S. has been sustainable up to this point in time. Although non renewable
resources have been utilized, new discoveries are still happening.
The track record of finding non renewable resources has fared

The Importance Of Preparing Dinner At West Chester Grove
Roasted chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, biscuits, and a vegetable melody was what Phillip
s mother, Krista, had prepared her family for dinner. It was a meal that would have taken her all
day if she had assembled it from scratch, But, thankfully, the whole process was streamlined given
that she elected to use the house s food hydrator and cooker instead of conventional methods. The
automated process of preparing dinner had also freed up more time for her writing, which she
definitely needed as she was already late with her contribution to In shape fitness magazine.
Between getting her latest article squared away for the magazine and the three Yoga classes she
taught that morning at West Chester Grove s local senior center her day had... Show more content

embarrass his older brother. You wish, spaz, Russell said as he licked his finger and then shoved
it deep into Phillip s ear. I get more women than you ll ever lay eyes on. Ah! Phillip griped as he
did his best to clean his brother s saliva out his ear. That s gross. You re going to give me one of

father then brought up. How has every been going lately, Phillip? No more symptoms? Everything
s been okay? Just fine, I guess, Phillip answered uncomfortably as he averted his eyes down at the
kitchen table and hoped that his father s questions would soon subside. Well, good, Cary said, and
he looked like he had another thought, but then the roaster s timer went off and everyone turned

Death Schone Magelone By Ludwig Tieck
Sind es Schumerzen, sind es Freuden ( are they sorrows or are they joys ) is a song from
Brahms song cycle Romanzen aus L. Tieck s Magelone, Op. 33 No. 3. As text for his song cycle,
Brahms chose excerpts from the novel Die schöne Magelone by Ludwig Tieck (1773 1853). The
novel tells a love story between Peter von Provence and Magelone, the king s daughter. In this
particular song, Peter and Magelone falls in love with each other. Though Brahms is most widely
known as an instrumental composer, more than half of his opus numbers are devoted to vocal
works. In Brahms song cycles, he avoided the traditional strophic forms. Instead, he chooses
dramatic shifts in music material, unpredictable harmonies, and sudden changes in tempoand
rhythm.
The song starts with an unusually long piano introduction that lasted 8 measures, gives an idea of
the large scale of this song. The rolled chords (mm.1 8) and broken octaves underneath the beautiful
melody suggesting Peter s lute. The vocal line begins with the expressive melody identical to the
beginning of the piano introduction. It is characterized by embellishments on words sind (to be),
busen (bosom) and wГјnsche (desire). Emphasizing Peter yearning for Magelone s love. The
second stanza is set to the same music as the first stanza, and Brahms even indicates this with a
repeat sign rather than notating the music twice. The harmony of the verse ends on a half cadence
but the chords at the last measure are not rolled, (mm.20)

Parents And The Quality Child Care Program
Parents involvement in the Early Childhood Program is very important to enrich the quality child
care program. Some family may show lot of enthusiasm and interest while others may show little
interest to involve in the program. As mentioned by Essa and Young, Regardless of the extent or
type of involvement, an involved parents is a far greater asset to the program than an uninvolved
one, since planning, implementing, and evaluating becomes a team effort (2003, p. 184).This
program is a team work where three important players children, parents and teacher work together to
achieve the goal of the program. Parents might contribute to the program in the following ways:
1. Excellent source of resources: Parents are an excellent source of resources to the program.
Different parents have different expertise and skills which they can share with teacher and
children and can be a part of the curriculum. For example, if any parents is working as yoga
instructor, he or she can teach some basic yoga poses and techniques to the children which help
children to be more focused. If any Parents is working in the health sector, may give talk to the
children about basic health and hygiene practices. Parents working in the farming land can arrange
short field trip for the children where they get the opportunity to see fruits and vegetables growing
and by visiting the farm animals like cows, goats and chicken they also get the knowledge of the

Apple s Case Against Steve Jobs
Apple was founded by three men; Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ron Wayne in 1976. The
company received an investment from Mark Markkula in 1977, introducing Apple Computer
Inc. and the release of the Apple II. The Apple III and Apple IIe were then released. The Apple
III was a high end machine that was highly priced, whereas the Apple IIe was a computer used in
various households. In 1980, Apple became a public company which increased their share price
significantly, making most of Apple s staff members millionaires. By 1983, Apple became a
Fortune 500 company as a result of their rapid growth (Alcom, 2012). In the early 1980 s, Apple
encountered heavy competition from IBM which sold millions of PCs. Competition continued
throughout the years with Microsoft releasing software such as Word and BASIC. The original
Macintosh was released in 1984, known as the computer for the rest of us , while the Apple IIe
simultaneously received awards for excellence (Alcom, 2012). Apple filed a lawsuit against Steve
Jobsafter he resigned due to political issues within the company. Jobs claimed he would start a
new company so Apple filed a lawsuit to stop him from using sensitive information to be in
competition with Apple. Nevertheless, Jobs started the NeXT Inc. company which made it the
first computer on the market that was twice as powerful as Apple s products and the price was
$1000 less. The company performed well over the years with Job introducing NeXTstep OS which

Puppy Mill Research Paper
Whenever I start to talk about my breeding/showing program, people automatically jump to the
conclusion that I am a puppy miller. To me that is very hurtful and I take it offensively. A puppy
mill is an establishment that breeds puppies to sell, typically on an intensive basis and in
conditions regarded as inhumane. Me, as a breeder, I am there to improve the breed and higher
the expectations and the breed standards, while letting the dogs live a healthy and happy
lifestyle. My family, as most people with the same goals, we only breed once every couple of
years. My family and I plan each litter carefully paying attention to genetics, health clearances, and
pedigrees of the dogs being bred. Puppymillers are the complete opposite. They breed back to back
to back litters, where when the bitch, the female dog, is done with one litter and is breed the next
cycle that she has. This not only stresses the dog out, but takes a toll on the dogs body in the long
run. And with the lack of attention that they give when they breed, they are most... Show more

time and effort into the breeding of the dogs, but they will probably never talk to you about the
long nights of keeping watch over their 5 litters at once. They just leave the mother by themselves
and when they realize that the mother had her litter they just check to make sure everything is

these addicted to technology instead of spend waste time in unhelpful thing they can spend it in

INTRODUCTION OF LAN
LAN known as a local area network is a computer network that connected computer within a
small area such as a school, collages, a hospitals and an office building using network media. In
contrast to wide area network (WAN) this covers the huge area. In LAN, there is a main computer
called server and distance computers called clients. With the help of LAN users can access internet,
can exchange file with connected users, and also can communication between users via electronic
mails and others applications.
MANAGEMENT OF ACCESS TO A LAN
The resources on a local area computer network needs to be managed for their efficient use and
maintenance. They include local computers, printers, telephones, routers/internet access etc. To
manage this resource a system administrator/Network administrator can use multiple management
software like active directory authentications, User and group policies, physically restricted access
to devices etc.

Analysis Of Columbia Pictures A Few Good Men
The following work aims to take a closer look at cultures, leadership and paradigms in Columbia
Pictures (1992) film; A Few Good Men. This film provides many examples of differing cultures
as well as illustrating examples of leadership, management, and followership. Many lessons can
be learned; standing up for what is right and standing up for what you believe in are apparent, as
well as leaders not always making the best decisions. At the end of the day, one must be at peace
with the direction of their own moral compass and actions.

They utilized specialized legal terms that only individuals in the legal profession would
understand. Espoused values as illustrated by Schein (2009) are: strategies, goals, philosophies
(p.21). For the Marines at Guantanamo Bay, their purpose was to provide security for the Unites
States of America under the guidance of the commanding officer (Col. Nathan R. Jessep). During
the trial, Capt. Jack Ross provided two manuals that Marines are to follow: The Marine Guide and
General Information Handbook for New Recruits and The Marine Corps Guide for Sentry Duty
at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba which provided the basic outline for Marine actions, responsibilities
and duties. As for the lawyers involved, they shared a pre requisite fundamental knowledge of the
law. They all had law degrees as well as being members of the Armed Services. These two
cultures, attorney and military produces a unique culture, having its own terminologies and
decorum practices. They had specific responsibilities and guidelines that had to be followed, as
both council and officers. As for underlying assumptions or shared tacit assumptions, Schein
(2009) provides the following description about them: unconscious, taken for granted belief,
perceptions, thought and fillings (ultimate source of values and action) (p. 21). The Marines as
described by Lance Cpl. Harold W. Dawson followed a code: Unit, Corps, God, County (Brown

Ancient Roman Architecture And Humanism
The time of the Renaissance was a period when old ideas and techniques were brought back to the
surface. Ancient Rome helped frame architecture in the Early Renaissance, in comparison will be
discussing three buildings in Italy that were influenced by classical heritage.
I will discuss is a town house identified as the Palazzo Rucellai, built by Leon Battista Alberti in
Florence, Italy. Alberti was known to be a humanist, which was a belief that Greeks and Romans
practiced. (Dr. Beth Harris and David Zucker Alberti, Palazzo Rucellai ). It was believed that
humans and their lives were more, or just as important as the Gods. Humanists also believed that
God(s) made humans with a specific talent. According to the dictionary Humanism sparked interest
in a system in which human interests, values, and dignity were becoming a central motif for
artisans. This building was an important commission that Alberti had completed for a wealthy
merchant family known as the Rucellais, and was built after the wealthy Medici family built their
palazzo. According to Dr. Beth Harris and Dr. Steven Zucker, Alberti wrote multiple books. One of
those books was titled The Architecture of Leon Battista Alberti Ten Books on Architecture, and
was considered the most important book of architecture after the famous Ten Books on Architecture
written by the ancient Roman Vitruvius. Using Vitruvius vocabulary of ancient Roman
architecture, Alberti used it in a self conscious way to proclaim its

After the stock market crash, known as Black Tuesday, in 1929, people panicked. As too much
money was withdrawn from banks and they closed, people lost all their money. America, which
was just in the Roaring Twenties , fell into the Great Depression. Suddenly, people were laid off
their jobs, couldn t buy things they had once not thought twice about, and struggled to afford food
for their families. People lost their homes, and teenagers lived on the streets. Farmers were in
debt, losing their farms, and had to deal with the Dust Bowl. The president at the time, Herbert

Netball Is A Ball Sport Played By Two Teams Of Seven Players
Netball is a ball sport played by two teams of seven players. Its development, derived from early
versions of basketball, began in England in the 1890s. By 1960, international playing rules had
been standardised for the game, and the International Federation of Netball and Women s Basketball
(later renamed the International NetballFederation (INF)) was formed. As of 2011, the INF
comprises more than 60 national teams organized into five global regions.
Games are played on a rectangular court with raised goal rings at each end. Each team attempts
to score goals by passing a ball down the court and shooting it through its goal ring. Players are
assigned specific positions, which define their roles within the team and restrict their movement
to certain areas of the court. During general play, a player with the ball can hold on to it for only
three seconds before shooting for a goal or passing to another player. The winning team is the one
that scores the most goals. Netball games are 60 minutes long. Variations have been developed to
increase the game s pace and appeal to a wider audience.
Netball is most popular in Commonwealth nations, specifically in schools, and is predominantly
played by women. According to the INF, netball is played by more than 20 million people in more
than 80 countries.[12][13] Major transnational competitions take place, including the Netball

The Effect Of Particulate Matter On Human Health
Introduction Background:
The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined particulate matter (PM2.5), as an outdoor air
pollutant. Also known as air pollution, aerosols, and fine particulate matter, PM2.5 has emerged as
one of the most significant environmental and public health concerns over the past several decades.
PM2.5 has revealed to hold detrimental affects on human health and is attributable to over
130,0000 deaths annually according to 2005 air quality levels (Hoek et al. 2013; CDC). The
processes of economic development, urbanization, energy production, and consumption, and
transportation have been the primary driving forces of PM2.5. (EPA; Huang et al, 2014)
The term refers to microscopic matter suspended in the Earth s atmosphere with a diameter of
2.5Ојg or less that can originate from both natural and/or manmade processes (EPA). It is
characterized by 5 major components that compromise the mass of the particle: sulfate, nitrate,
organic carbon, (OC), elemental carbon (also known as black carbon, BC), and crustal carbon
(EPA). Some particles may appear naturally, coming from volcanoes, forest fires, vegetation, and
the ocean (EPA). In contrast, particles are also be created by anthropogenic activities such as the
burning of fossil fuels and various industrial processes (EPA; Huang et al., 2014). Higher
concentrations of the particulate primarily originate from larger sources such as the burning of
gasoline in automobiles, oil, diesel and wood (Huang et al.,

What Could Be Better Than A Touchdown Summary
Does sports performance depend as much on mental strength and agility as physical power ?After

may be true that physical power is more than mental power in sports. However physical power and
mental strength are equally important. In What Could Be Better Than a Touchdown football

The Wrong Direction
Religion has convinced modern society to not only consider humanity s well being: what God
wants and our place in either Heaven or Hell in the afterlife (Sutter). Religion, even though there
are billions of followers, is based solely on what just a few important religious characters have said.
For instance, Islamwas started by a man named Mohammed, who communicated with Godand
became a prophet. Nobody saw him or the angel which visited Mohammed at this time, however,
when Mohammed came down from the mountain where he was praying, and began to spread the
message, people who had previously been polytheists converted to Mohammed s new religion:
Islam. Over the course of Mohammed s life, as depicted in the movie The Message , many... Show

The second purpose of religion is to instill hope, such as the concept of an afterlife. When a
Christian dies, others will believe that they will be able to see each other again when they die,
based on the concept that there is a Heaven, where all Christians go (given they prayed for
forgiveness and didn t commit any high level crimes, such as murder). However, if that person
disobeyed the Christian rules, that person will go to Hell, an eternal damnation. This specific
element of religion is one of the main reasons for joining a religion the hope of Heaven for
Christians, and similar environments in other religions. However, this isn t the only way the
hope of religion is used. When a religious individual prays, many times they will ask a favor of
God, such as Please God, let me get an A on this paper , or Please God, help me lose weight .
This is where I personally begin to have problems rather than focusing on achieving something
personally, such as studying and working hard on a paper, or going to the gym every day to lose
weight, prayer is commonly used as a vehicle to hope that something will come true with
virtually no work put in. Another example of this hope is if one has a headache and prays to
God it will go away, there will be two outcomes: it goes away naturally, then God is celebrated by
the individual as their savior, or the headache persists and the individual believes that God is
simply testing one s faith. I would

The East has a preoccupation with losing their home and the West is on a quest to recover it.
However, the West can accept that the home they seek may not exist anymore and imagine a future
without it whereas the East can see no acceptable alternative. We can see this when we compare
Salman Rushdie s At The Auction of the Ruby Slippers (ATARS) to his The Prophet s Hair.
The West is trying to reclaim the home they have lost and the East is trying to stop the home they
have from slipping away. Both stories contain portraits of a better past. However, ATARS is
referencing the past of the West, whereas The Prophet s Hair is referencing the presentof the East.
ATARS is related to the reader by a single character, as it happens, in the... Show more content on

The Gale the narrator loves is not the real Gale, who he recently saw at the bar, but his idea of
what their home would be if they had stayed together. He realizes this. In The Prophet s Hair, the
instinct of the family is to piece their home back together, not to move away from the destructive
force of Hashim and The Prophet s Hair. An alternative to family is never considered because the
East cannot see a future without home. This seems like a trite observation, because it is likely that
there is a reason they never considered leaving a cultural reason. Perhaps it was unthinkable in their
society for a family to desert its male leader, but this is exactly the point. They never consider an
alternative because of the context of the culture.
The fact that the narrator of ATARS can see that his home may no longer exist, gives him the
perspective to see an alternative, that the East cannot. The reason that the East cannot see the
alternatives to its home that the West can is because that alternative is based on two ideas central
to Western culture: freedom and the free market. ATARS ends with the narrator feeling a
reduction in weight , a floating (102). The final passage is full of phrases which connote
lightness: weightlessness , float away and letting go: lie down [...] to rest (102). The narrator finds
resolution of his need for home in his freedom. The final passage of ATARS also

Buddy System Essay
34) Buddy System
Learners are buddies with another learner either slightly or more experienced. The two work
together regularly to a project which will go on display at a specific time (i.e. exhibition, science
fair.) Buddies also assist each other on homework or on checking up with each other that homework
has been completed. In the end, neither buddy can take the summative assessment until the other
buddy says the first buddy is ready. This technique improves learning because the buddies
encourage each other to succeed.
35) Field Trips
Field trips offer the opportunity for internalize material the be externalized, applied, and sometimes
evaluated. On a field trip, designed to apply learned skills, the learner is given opportunity to apply
by practice comprehension skills, conversational skills, and vocabulary skills.
Sample Field Trips: Natural Hispanic Cultural Center; Hispanic (Target Language) Markets; Target
language classrooms in other schools; a tour given in the target language (i.e. at the zoo.)
36) Guest Speakers/Guest Teachers ( Guest Teachers )
Including fellow teachers or guest speakers to teach on a specific topic regarding the target
language, or to teach on their own topic in the target language improves learning by providing
opportunity for learners to apply internalized material. Guest speakers/Guest teachers provide
variety in classroom lecture or instruction which increases learner interest level. Increasing interest

Elie Wiesel s The Boy In The Striped Pajamas
The Boy in the Striped Pajama exhibits doing the physically intolerable, but the morally correct
deed, despite rough situations. Bruno resisted the adults and risked severe retribution to deliver
food for Shmuel, a Jew. In the same way, Night also exhibits the principle of doing actions that
benefit society, despite symptoms of pain. The experiences in Elie Wiesels Night force Elie to learn
that everybody should speak up during tough times. Young Elie s stereotypical reaction of doing
what authority calls for relates to what Perils of Obedience calls obedience to the higher powers
natural. Conversely, older Elie Wiesel s Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance Speech requests society to
respond during harsh situations while resisting fear. Upon

Essay about Racial Segregation in New York
Racial Segregation in New York
Currently there are about 600,000 people who live in the South Bronx and about 434,000 who
live in Washington Heights and Harlem. This area makes up one of the most racially segregated
areas of poor people in the United States. In this book we focus on racially segregated areas of poor
people in the United States. In this book we focus on Mott Haven, a place where 48,0000 of the
poorest people in the South Bronx live. Two thirds of the people are Hispanic, one third is black
and thirty five percent are children. There are nearly four thousand heroin users, and one fourth of
the women who are tested are positive for HIV. All of this, and much more in one little area of the
South Bronx. In the middle of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Discrimination
and prejudice are so prevalent, you would think that the state of New York would want to
do something. Why do these people get overlooked?
One form of prejudice that I couldn t help but noticing was the medical waste
incinerator built on Locust Avenue. Originally it was going to built in another part of
New York, but when parents complained of cancer worries they decided to build in Mott
Haven, despite the protest of the parents there. It seems as if they didn t even care about
the welfare of these people, these people can get cancer because they re already
unclean . The people of Mott Haven, as seen in Jean Kilbourne s discussion Deadly
Persuasions , seem to portrayed as not human. If the people of NY see them as less of a
person, then its easier to overlook them.
Cultural bias is another form of prejudice. Cultural bias can be in the form of
standardized test to get into a better school or even to get a better job. Access to
resources makes it harder for minorities to get ahead. If a child can t even get proper
schooling due to teachers not wanting to pass 96th street to teach, what are they suppose
to do? Some wait hours for care in a hospital because they re too

work from the beginning and until the end of his career has been praised over the years of his
retirement and will most likely be praised until the day he passes away. Moffat was famous for
using his personal life to put in his work, going back to what I was saying about his marriage, i ll

specific events that were very unfortunate for him, he even used a part in the script that he was so

Historical Inaccuracy in Braveheart
The idea that film is a medium in which a director can comment on the ills of society has been
around since the first motion picture was made. The problem with this fact is that directors and
producers often change the historical facts and even the attitudes of the characters in order
stimulate public interest through the striking of some common chord that the public feels
vigorously about. The story of William Wallacein the movie Braveheartwhile historically fairly
accurate in the depictions of the battles while leaving out many important facts. Randall Wallace
added some plot twists to make the story more appealing to the audience. All the plot twists and
inaccuracies that were added in the movie Braveheart have several basic areas... Show more content

In the movie, Wallace is introduced to the audience as a common man with very humble
beginnings whose father was a farmer. He was in fact not the son of a common farmer but the
son of a low level. Wallace first acted in anger against the English when he was insulted by the
son of an English governor and proceeded to strike him dead and he began his military career.
His military dream to free Scotland started in May 1297 after the murder of Marion Braidfoot
who is the historical basis for the character Murron in Braveheart. Wallace won the battle of
Stirling; he was kind of disappointed when he remembered that he had to fight the English king.
The English king brought his army north. The English army had infantry and archers as well as
over 3000 cavalry. The Scottish army was only half the size and had almost no cavalry. The
Scottish army lost, Wallace however went into hiding. The film Braveheart makes the audience
believe that Wallace went around killing his enemies in Scotland, there is however no historical
evidence for this belief. Politics were beginning to change due to the manipulations of Edward I
and even England s enemies wouldn t offer Wallace any help. After traveling to France, germane
and Rome he returns to Scotland after almost years abroad to find out he was betrayed to the
English by a Scottish noble named Sir John Menteith and was turned over to the English for a trial.
He was then taken to for trial and execution. The film Braveheart is

March Of Penguins
In March of the Penguins, the author explains in a subjective point of view that it s not the fault of
another animal for needing to feed by eating the penguins. For the Penguins, they survive many
harsh winters and attacks from animals such as the Sea Lion, because of this show of strength in
one of the world s harshest of environments, the Author admires these Penguins and how they live.
Ways they show their loyalty to their home and ways they survive this hellish place are simple, yet
extremely hazardous tasks. To get back to their mating area, the first group of penguins, the males,
must travel an extremely long distance to make it back to their home and meet up with the female

mothers of those chicks will not have a child to feed. For those who have survived, their child is

father is in need of food. Before departing, the Father and Child sing to each other to remember
who is who after the father returns from feeding. As time passes, these chicks slowly grow older

they are left alone as they are old enough to look out for themselves and that of their fellow

Walter Mitty Ambivalence
Around half of man s thoughts are daydreams, according to a 2009 neurological study. This
supports the thought that daydreaming is a gateway that allows the mind to wonder, not just
wander. Therefore, people like Walter Mitty who constantly seem to be daydreaming aren t that
uncommon or abnormal. Walter Mitty shouldn t be looked down upon or pitied, but instead
should be praised for his constant awareness of his own mind s thoughts, as this continuously
happens to everyone. However, Walter Mitty s wife seems to have little care and respect for her
husband s constant delusions, even though this is perfectly normal. In fact, it is highly likely that
she is also wrapped in her own delusions just as often as him. A study in 2010 by Harvard found
that people s minds tend to wander for around 46.9 percent of the time, but no less than about 30
percent during almost every activity. This in itself shows that it is not unlikely that they are both
slipping out of reality about as often as the other and yet she still chooses to think he is ill or losing
his mind. She even states her intention to check his temperature to verify that he isn t coming down

that he is trying to regain his control and his sanity by slowly slipping into his ideal situation for the

Character Development In Ralph Ellison s The Invisible Man
Character development within novels with complex plot structures proves to be a difficult task
necessitating the author to add their own inner thoughts and experiences to weave a more realistic
story. The historical background of a writer helps glean on information about that person s
unconscious and subconscious processes that become apparent within an author s literature. As the
author develops their thoughts throughout a novelattempting to paint a clearer picture of their
purpose, their own persona becomes a part of the literature. Psychoanalytic theory attempts to
further this claim by taking information from one s childhood, inner taboo thoughts and hidden
motivations, and synthesizing them for a better picture of the author s... Show more content on

Ellison relays this when his narrator is under the spell of the reefer, and discovers a new analytical
way of listening to music (Ellison 8). Although the man despises the feeling of altered time that
reefer is associated with, he can appreciate the sensitivities of music within the manipulated
psychological state of mind. Without Ellison s own experiences with music and the feelings of
euphoria it brought upon him, it would be nearly impossible to relay such clear messages of
passion within the novel. This character in the very beginning of the novel was one that had been
satisfied with his life and decided to remain actively dormant to the outside world, but as Ellison
tells his story, music is mentioned in multiple instances. As he attempts to find a job, Mr. Emerson s
son tells him that a number of my friends are jazz musicians...I know the conditions under which
you live Why go back? (Ellison 188) Ralph Ellison understands the struggle that musicians go
through to make a living, especially in places where opportunities are extremely few. Anywhere
other than Harlem, the narrator would be unable to find anything to do with his talents. This may be
a feeling the younger Ellison himself also felt, the competitiveness and the limited scope of
opportunities that musicians had may have forced him to move into the North and even take his
talents into the area of writing. Ellison s childhood experiences with music inspire him to write

I will be looking at what Blake says and hints at concerning the two contrary states of the human

the poems are written regarding the same subject, that is a chimney sweep, I will be looking at how

This was because of the huge power the rich and wealthy possessed; they could pay people less
and lay workers off without the fear of them taking mass industrial action because people were
so desperate for the money and would not have even have thought have taking such action. Over
the years life got harder for the working class year by year and was basically a constant battle to
stay alive, which many were losing. Due to the fact that people were so poor, the burden of
contributing to the family income was placed on children even earlier and this quite often meant
working as a chimney sweep from the age of four, a topic explored in Blake s two poems. Life
expectancy was short and if you were unfortunate enough to be a chimney sweep you were seen
to be doing well if you got past the age of ten. Money generally means power and at that time in
the world it was especially true and actually to a greater degree and so the more money you had
the more power and authority you had and if you were rich enough you could not only have an

In the beginning of the twentieth century the role of the average woman and family was very
different to that of the later twentieth century, most women would stay at home with their
children while their husbands went out to earn money. It was at this time that the average
amount of children per woman was six; recent statistics show that it has dropped, alarmingly, to
1.7 (National Office Of Statistics), with many women choosing not to have children at all. Mike
Featherstone (1991) proposed that in modern day living, individuals have a great deal more
choice and freedom over how to live their lives. They do not have to battle with the parts of their
lifestyle that in pre industrial Britain would have stopped them from doing as they wish. He
suggested that it would not be unsurprising at all if family types did not become more diverse
and less obscure family types would not rise. This would indeed appear to be so; there is
evidence to show that the extended family is increasing at the moment due to the problem of a
lack of care homes, rising directly from the increase in life expectancy. This coupled with the idea
that teenage pregnancies are on the rise (UK has one of the highest teenage pregnancy rate in
Europe!) would suggest that a slight rise in the extended family would be almost definite. It can
also be seen that more people are

The Major Performing Arts sector in Australia
The Major Performing Arts (MPA) sector comprises 28 leading Australian companies in the fields
of dance, theatre, opera and orchestral and chamber music (Australian Council, 2012: 3) [The list of
the 28 companies see the Appendix]. By 1997, this sector encountered great financial and artistic
difficulties. In this case, the Australia Government announced the establishment of the Major
Performing Arts Inquiry (MPAI) in 1998 and the final report Securing the Future was released next
year (Australian Major Performing Arts Group). The statistics demonstrates that the MPA sector is
developing stably over the past 14 years.
The MPA sector s income is mainly from three sources: box office, government funding and
private sector. In 2012, the sector received about $420m income in the aggregate, increasing
from $261m in 2001. The box office income amounted to $203m, which increased from $117m in
2001 and occupied nearly 50% of the total income (Australia Council, 2013). The growth of the
box office is partly depends on the increase of audience number and partly on the 44% average
increase of the sector ticket prices (Australia Council, 2012: 11). Around $140m were from both
federal and state governments and the private sector contributed $65m. The 28 companies reported
a combined operating surplus of $12.7m in 2012. With the huge amount of income, the MPA sector

Disney Cruise Line takes advantage of the rhetorical appeal of kairos to get people to go on their
cruises. One of the ways they use kairos is through the description of their new cruise. The
company states, For the first time in the summer of 2014, Disney Cruise Line sails to Europe
with over a dozen ports of call dotting the sunny Mediterranean, (Disney Cruise Line 24). Disney
appeals to kairos by pointing out the fact that this is the first time they are offering this type of
cruise. People are often more eager to go on vacations if they believe they are going to be some
of the first people to have that experience. Disney utilizes this idea of being the first to make
their new customers feel more special and their returning customers feel obligated to try out the
new cruise for the first time. The Disney Cruise Line again appeals to kairos in the same way
about their new Alaskan cruise. They state, We now also offer an Alaskan cruise that includes
historic Sitka, (Disney Cruise Line 4). They again appeal to the idea that this cruise is brand
new and that the readers will be more eager to try a new cruise. Over the course of the entire
booklet, the Disney Cruise Line attaches the word new to several statements. For example, the
cruise line offers all new enhancements and all new watery play areas (Disney Cruise Line 5). In
doing using the word new, the company gets the customer more excited about going on the cruise
making them believe that they will be the first to try out the additions. It is well known that people
are drawn to new things, and Disney takes full advantage of this concept by attaching the word new
to whatever statement they can. The thought that the customer is going to experience an aspect of
the cruise that is brand new, makes them more excited and more likely to go on the

Essay on The Pardons of Purgatory
Freedom is the ability one has to choose. Freedom is without consequence, fear of transgression,
and lacks regret. Freedom is a fork in the road a trail that leads to fortune in a field of traps.
Humans have freedom and hold it as children do crayons, straying beyond the lines of purpose
only to get lost in meaningless scribbles. Dante condemns these actions in his poem Purgatory.
Dante invents a fictitious location in afterlife, liberating souls that have become prisoners of their
own disarray. With a collection of paradoxes, vivid imagery, and active examples, Dante
establishes a thorough process in which souls can be cleansed of the past and stride to their future.
Purgatory is far from a place of punishment; it is rather a place... Show more content on

Once liberated from one s tainted ability to reason, one must surrender him self to a higher power
that will guide him accurately through the trials hurdled toward him. If man alone was responsible
to hold himself accountable, he would inevitably taste the savor of some lesser good and chase
it, destroying the freedom of [his] will (Dante 173) and fall victim to the seasons of his own
desires. Men need some rein or guide (Dante 175) to direct their overhot desires (Dante 265) or
they will escalade like weeds growing over a fertile field (Dante 355). Men see the goodness of
the matter but cannot do everything by the power of will (Dante 231) allowing their discretion
to grow weary in the first battles (Dante 173). As Virgil, a symbol of man abandoned by his
ability to freely judge (Dante 173), was prompted by divine grace before he came to rescue Dante
from a Siren a being which steals the might of (Dante 203) men. Dante illustrates man s tendency to
passively stand aside as his life is acted upon rather than act on the decisions made by mindful
consideration. Men must humble themselves to a greater power to lead them to ultimate freedom.
Solely a guide will not suffice the redemption of one s soul. One must make conscious and
passionate decisions to move forward in growth and change, without portraying doubt or becoming
distracted by the shiny plastic gems saturating the world. Dante constantly

however, prisoners underneath the other prisoners and the water would wash all of the excrement
and bodily fluids down through grates and drip onto the bodies of the standing prisoners who dare
not lie down and could not stand up because of the vile filth on them and around their feet
(Cantor). These are only a few descriptions of the various practices of cruelty.
The first sin that Dante describes is heresy. The penalty in the medieval era for heresy was often
public humiliation, imprisonment or to suffer death by burning. (Cantor). The punishment for the
arch heretics and those who followed them was that they be ensepulchered and to have some
heated more, some less. (Alighieri). These red hot sepulchers served as a punishment for the
heretics, causing burns. The archheretics firmly believed that everything died with the body
therefore there was no soul. So, they were punished with the hot and crowded pokers, but they
were also punished with their beliefs and they were allowed to feel what it s like to die eternally
and lie and wait until the apocalypse. This punishment is one in that was more focused on inflicting
a physical and bodily pain rather than a mental one.
Another sin whose punishment was administered with the full intention of causing great harm was
flattery.

Correlation Between Unemployment And Inflation
Kitov Kitov (2011) provided an empirical model to check the impact of inflation and
unemployment reactions to changes in the labor force in Switzerland using data from 1965 to
2010. Their overall, findings established that there exist long term equilibrium relations between the
rate of labor force change and inflationrate.
AMINU (2012) investigated the relationship between unemployment and inflation in Nigeria
economy between 1977 and 2009. The results indicate that inflation had a negative impact on
unemployment. The causality test reveals that there is no causation between unemployment and
inflation in Nigeria during the period of study and a long run relationship exists between them as
confirmed by the co integration test.

it shows that there is negative relationship between inflation and unemployment, which means that
there is trade off between this two variables. The empirical review base on the paper that was
reviewed during the study, most the reviewed paper reached the same conclusion as it was reached
by theoretical model of having a negative or trade off relationship between inflation and
unemployment in their different focused environment. Only two of the researched paper that was
reviewed shows the findings of positive relationship between inflation and unemployment. Meaning
that their study found out that there is no trade off between inflation and unemployment which is
differs from the theoretical model.
Chapter 3
Research Methodology and research techniques
3.1. Introduction
Previous chapter reviewed the theoretical and empirical literature on the trade off between inflation
and unemployment. These couple theoretical and empirical review shed some light on the trade off
between inflation and unemployment. This section will build on that background to set the
analytical framework used in this study.
2. Data sources
The study will employ the annual data over the period of 1991 2014 that will make up the
sample size of 24 years. The main reason why the sample size is small is because Namibia where
the study is concentrating got independence in 1990 and the available and reliable

Male Dominance In Hamlet Essay
In William Shakespeare s play, Hamlet, each of the male characters, including prince of Denmark,
Hamlet, stand out in different ways with their will, actions, and wishes they would like to take.
However, on the other side, a female character, Ophelia is portrayed as weak character in the male
dominance throughout the play. Through feminist lens to the end of the play the causes of Ophelia
s madness and insanity depicted by her lack standing up for herself in male dominance, Hamlets
treatment, and the death of her loved father.
Firstly, Ophelia s tendency to be controlled in male dominance shows in the very beginning of the
play Act 1 when her brother, Laertes and her father, Poloniuswarn of Hamlet s intentions and her
relationship with Hamlet. Before Laertes gets on a ship to France he tells her Hamlet s love is not
permanent, sweet, not lasting, the perfume and suppliance of a minute. No more (1. 3. 8) and
considers his flirtation as a violet in the youth of primy nature (Shakespeare I. iii. 7). Then he
warns her best safety lies in fear (1. 3. 43), Ophelia does not make argument over warning but

She never be allowed to express her inner real feelings. Eventually, her madness leads to put
herself to the death by the end of the play. Ophelia lost herself in her destructed mind with her
language expresses her madness which interpreted as she s being herself without any manipulation
from males around her. Her obedience to males causing her lack of stand up for self, Hamlet to
reveal his love actually never existed, and let her know the murder of his father. Throughout the
stages of her madness it reflects the feminist perspectives of how female character, Ophelia, in this
play indicates how males treat female as ignorant and indifferent even though they see her

My Quinceanera
As a hispanic, I fit in the stereotype that my quinceanera marks my childhood transition to being an
adult, however, that is false, I am not a fan of attention. Getting my first college acceptance letter
was my accomplishment. I am the first person who will break stereotypes, as a proud
undocumented, feisty, high schoolgraduate girl. Realizing this and feeling proud of myself is one
step to transitioning. I may be eighteen, but I am still my parents little girl.. Because I love my
culture and my family, I want to give back to the community that raised me. Graduating high school
will be a well deserved accomplishment and is going to be marvelous. I am breaking barriers. You
will not classify me as a hispanic girl who got pregnant at sixteen or who dropped out for being
lazy. You cannot say I will end up being no one or a housewife. When I first received an acceptance
letter I knew I was going to college, perhaps, not that certain school, but I was going and that is
enough for me. You hear all the time the small talk people make about you, one day I won t fit in
a stereotype, I will be my own thing that people will not be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Majoring in Social Work and Pre Law as well as minoring in Latin american studies will help me
in giving back to my community, especially those who are silent about the problems they hide.
Opening my eyes was another step towards my adulthood, knowing not every time will I have an
accomplishment reached, but trying and putting effort to comfort myself will help immensely.
Transitioning from being a child to an adult is frustrating, irritating, stressing, but it also gives you
freedom, courage, and knowledge. This transition has inspired me to give back to my community,
to make my family proud, and too embrace the beautiful culture I am apart of.

The Reality Of A Wedding Planner
The traditional wedding dress, beautiful flowers, a fancy cake, the wonderfully decorated church
filled with family and close friends.... every little girl dreams of one day having a fairy tale
wedding. With little thought around what her husband will be like, what kind of wife she will be
or how much this big elaborate weddingwill cost, she sees herself as a beautiful bride. Most
women, and a few men, think of their wedding day as being one of the most important days of
their lives. Their wedding day is planned with the intentions of being a once in a lifetime kind of
event, their childhood fantasy, a dream come true. This day has to be perfect and so the first step
is to figure out how to seamlessly make this dream become a reality. With... Show more content on

For as many people that feel that event planning is a job that should be adequately compensated,
there are many people that feel that it shouldn t. There s a myth that planning events is easy and
that anyone can do it. (Hardy, J. 2016) The reality is that this is not something that just anyone can
do. There may be quite a bit of wedding planning tools and wedding accessories available online,
but who will provide their expert opinion, make recommendations based on experience or possess
the creativity that the bride may lack to birth her vision.
As of October 2013, the salary ranges for a wedding planner (also known as a wedding
coordinator, wedding consultant, or a bridal consultant) was $26, 000 $34,000 with the average
salary being $33,519. (Hard, R. 2016) However, in 2010, the national average salary for the
overall business of event planning including wedding planners, was quoted by Salary.com as
ranging between $47,000 $64,000. With benefits, it could fall around $78,839. By the end of
2015, the average event planner salary was about $58,545; with benefits, the salary could reach
up to $85,231. (Hard, R. 2016, March 14) This information could vary based on sourcing and
could be different based on demographics. For example, the business of event planning is very
popular in New York and Long Island. Therefore, opportunities for wedding planners in these areas

Steve Jobs Essay
Steve Jobs was born on February 24, 1955 in Los Altos, California. He is Co founder, Chairman,
and former CEO of Apple Inc. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak high school friends and both
college dropouts joined together to start Apple Computer in 1976. They are credited for inventing
the first computer for home use. They made it possible for people to have a computer anywhere
in their home, or on an office desk, where previously a single computer took up a whole room.
There creation changed the world. However Steve Jobsdidn t change what was in the products but
how they looked, functioned, and what they meant.

He didn t only pay attention to what was in his products but what they looked like and what they
meant to his buyers. That is how he changed the world, not with what his products have in them,
all of the components of his products are the same as any other out there, but with how they look
and what they make easier in our lives. No one goes out and says oh I m going to buy a MP3
player that s only 29.00$, they re going to want to buy Apples iPod even if they have the same
software. When you buy an apple product you re not just buying the actual product your buying
what the product represents. Job s ability to take what he wants in a phone, portable music device,
and computer and make it real and wanted by the masses is a gift.
In conclusion, Steve Jobs changed the world not only with the invention of the Apple II in 76
which was in collaboration with Steve Wozniak, but with how he thinks. When Job s thinks of the
next big thing in technology he thinks about what he would want. He makes products that make life

Argumentative Essay On Whaling
An Exemption For Whaling
For this week s written assignment, I have chosen to address the Norwegian and Japanese positions
on permitting whale hunting as a cultural exemption. As someone who was born in Norway, and
has visited several whaling towns, I feel that I have some idea of the importance of whaling to
Norwegian cultures and national identity. Although Japan is culturally and geographically a very
different place to Norway, I feel that the importance of whaling to both cultures provides some
similarities between the two nations.
1. Do you agree with the Norwegian and Japanese position on permitting the hunting of non
endangered species of whales as a cultural exemption?
I find this particular question a difficult one to answer. Whaling is a notoriously cruel method of
hunting there is no humane way to kill a whale at sea. Many die a slow, painful death (Whale and
Dolphin Conservation, n.d.). There is also concern from whale scientists about the effect of the
hunting of whales on whale communities and populations (Whale and Dolphin Conservation, n.d.).
It cannot be denied that whaling is an inhumane process, with serious repercussions for the whale
species.
However, I do feel that Norway and Japan should be able to exercise their right to self
determination (as expressed in the UN s Universal Declaration of Human Rights). Both countries
argue that whaling is crucial to several of their local communities. The North Atlantic Marine
Mammal Commission states

Civil War And The Black Suffrage
Post Civil War, Northern women became increasingly active in the Black suffrage movements in
the North. They strategized that by enforcing the right of suffrage for African Americans they
would automatically receive the right to vote. Their calculations were based off of the hierarchal
rules implied by the Jim Crow South. During the Jim Crow Era, segregationists feared that
reconstruction would mess with the inherent order of their society by making Black men equal to
White men and beneath them allowing Black women to be equal to White women. Their
restoration period stressed that the gender/racial hierarchy be preserved as follows: White men,
White women, Black men, and then Black women. The Northern women assumed that there was no
way they would give Black men the right to vote without giving White women the right to vote
first, since they were higher up on Jim Crow s hierarchy. However, their initial plan was unfeasible
due to mutual disagreement amongst men in regards to women s suffrage. Even the radical men
believed that supporting women s suffrage was pushing things too far and risked the nullification of
the fourteenth amendment. Regardless of, they pushed for its ratification.
In 1873 Suzan B. Anthony led the women to go up to the polls to cast votes as a form of protest.
Their plan was to go to the polls, get turned away, then sue on behalf of the fourteenth amendment
which equally protected them. To their dismay, Anthony was not turned away but instead was

Why Are Professional Athletes Overpaid
Professional athletes are paid a lot every year, sometimes more than a regular middle class
working citizen is paid in a lifetime. Is this fair? Many think it is not, but just as many think it
is. Professional athletes are overpaid for many reasons, one being they are paid a lot more than
people who save lives for a living, another is that they do not need all the money, and lastly
because they get millions for something that is an entertainment, and could be lived without.
Doctors are paid, on average, about 500,000 dollars a year at the highest. They help people and
perform life saving surgeries. The highest average a lawyer is paid yearly is 170,000 dollars, if
they are really experienced. Lawyers bring justice to our land. Doctors and lawyers are some of
the most high paid jobs, but who is paid higher? Professional athletes. According to a 2007 study
by Sports Illustrated, the least paid player in the NFL gets paid more than twice the amount
doctors get paid, and it s considered low. This is one of the easiest reasons to use to prove that
professional athletes are overpaid.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We haven t ever struggled with money and live comfortably. Obviously more money would not
hurt us, but we wouldn t necessarily need it. We are upper middle class. That alone suggests
there are many more families and individuals out there who live off of much less and they deal
with it. In addition, there are a lot who cannot live with much less than that. Every time I go to a
city or highly populated are there are always people living on the streets, in homeless shelters,
under bridges and in subway stations. There are people who play instruments or sing to get a few
dollars for their dinner. People who flatout beg for money on the street corners. After seeing that
we still have people doing this, how can we not realize that you do not need to be paid millions to

The Documentary The Sixteenth Man
The documentary the 16th man tells the story of the South African rugby team winning the 1995
World Cup during a time when racial equality was a major issue. The whites were in power in the
country of South Africa and judging others based simply by their skin color. According to the
video blacks outnumbered whites 6 to 1, but still did not have the right to vote as the whites had
complete control. Both sides were at odds with each other fueled by anger and unjustified
resentment. Then when the 1995 rugby World Cupwas being held in South Africathe South African
team was heavy underdogs. The big news though was one of the better players on the team was a
black man. This created some pride among their race and brought their attention to the games. South
Africaended up shocking the world as they won the World Cup. This was big news and had a
tremendous impact on their fans. However, the biggest impact could not be measured by a
trophy. The victory brought people together. Allowed people to realize there was no need for the
fighting and that they were not so different after all. The 1995 South African rugby team
highlights how sport can unite people, proving that social and political resolutions can be
developed through sport. Nelson Mandela as a peaceful leader of the South African black
community he realized what sports could do for dying down the racial tension. The sport was
bringing everyone together. Instead of picking racial sides everyone was combined as

  • 2. Research Paper On Earthquake Natural Disasters Research Project Earthquake: San Francisco, California Earthquake An earthquake is caused by a sudden slip on a fault. We know that tectonic plates move slowly towards, away from or past each other. Continents are parts of these plates which means they move too after time. An earthquake occurs when the rocks break and move as a result stresses caused by plate tectonics. but sometimes they get stuck at their edges due to friction. When the edges overcome Earthquakes are the most deadly of all natural disasters. When an earthquake strikes, it can make a difference between life and death. If you survive an earthquake it s something you ll never forget. Most of the time it s not the quake that kills people but the building and the things inside it that fall down. It can destroy pipelines, gas lines that can cause fire and zero electricity. Usually there are aftershocks for weeks or months. For example, the earthquake that happened in San Francisco, California on October 17,1989. It was a really destructive earthquake that killed people and billions of dollars in damages. • 3. Energy Commission Information ( Eia ) Essay The United States is the largest economy in the world. According to the World Bank its GDP is approximately 16.8 trillion as of 2013. As the U.S. grows in population, so does the demand of goods. Is the country heading towards greater prosperity or towards a dismal hole? Is the United States practicing weak or strong sustainabilityand should we be worried about running out of non renewable resources? We all know what non renewable resources are economic values that cannot be replaced within a reasonable time frame. According to the U.S. energy commission Information (EIA) Administration the United States consumed approximately 6.89 billion barrels of petroleum in 2013. Now, 6.89 billion barrels of petroleum may seem like an overwhelming amount of oil, but according to the EIA we should have enough oil to meet demands for the next 25 years. The EIA predicts that the demand for non renewable resources will be met for at least 25 more years, but what happens after that? Some people would argue that the U.S. has been sustained up to this point in time however others would say the contrary. So, first I would like to define my interpretation sustainability as, being able to meet today s demand, without compromising tomorrows . Under this definition I believe that the U.S. has been sustainable up to this point in time. Although non renewable resources have been utilized, new discoveries are still happening. The track record of finding non renewable resources has fared ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Preparing Dinner At West Chester Grove Roasted chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, biscuits, and a vegetable melody was what Phillip s mother, Krista, had prepared her family for dinner. It was a meal that would have taken her all day if she had assembled it from scratch, But, thankfully, the whole process was streamlined given that she elected to use the house s food hydrator and cooker instead of conventional methods. The automated process of preparing dinner had also freed up more time for her writing, which she definitely needed as she was already late with her contribution to In shape fitness magazine. Between getting her latest article squared away for the magazine and the three Yoga classes she taught that morning at West Chester Grove s local senior center her day had... You wish, spaz, Russell said as he licked his finger and then shoved it deep into Phillip s ear. I get more women than you ll ever lay eyes on. Ah! Phillip griped as he did his best to clean his brother s saliva out his ear. That s gross. You re going to give me one of those old diseases with all your germs. Well, you re the only one who has to worry about that, eh spaz? Russell countered. Boys, that s enough, Krista responded. Speaking of illness, Phillip s father then brought up. How has every been going lately, Phillip? No more symptoms? Everything s been okay? Just fine, I guess, Phillip answered uncomfortably as he averted his eyes down at the kitchen table and hoped that his father s questions would soon subside. • 5. Death Schone Magelone By Ludwig Tieck Sind es Schumerzen, sind es Freuden ( are they sorrows or are they joys ) is a song from Brahms song cycle Romanzen aus L. Tieck s Magelone, Op. 33 No. 3. As text for his song cycle, Brahms chose excerpts from the novel Die schГ¶ne Magelone by Ludwig Tieck (1773 1853). The novel tells a love story between Peter von Provence and Magelone, the king s daughter. In this particular song, Peter and Magelone falls in love with each other. Though Brahms is most widely known as an instrumental composer, more than half of his opus numbers are devoted to vocal works. In Brahms song cycles, he avoided the traditional strophic forms. Instead, he chooses dramatic shifts in music material, unpredictable harmonies, and sudden changes in tempoand rhythm. The song starts with an unusually long piano introduction that lasted 8 measures, gives an idea of the large scale of this song. The rolled chords (mm.1 8) and broken octaves underneath the beautiful melody suggesting Peter s lute. The vocal line begins with the expressive melody identical to the beginning of the piano introduction. It is characterized by embellishments on words sind (to be), busen (bosom) and wГјnsche (desire). Emphasizing Peter yearning for Magelone s love. The second stanza is set to the same music as the first stanza, and Brahms even indicates this with a repeat sign rather than notating the music twice. The harmony of the verse ends on a half cadence but the chords at the last measure are not rolled, (mm.20) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To me that is very hurtful and I take it offensively. A puppy mill is an establishment that breeds puppies to sell, typically on an intensive basis and in conditions regarded as inhumane. Me, as a breeder, I am there to improve the breed and higher the expectations and the breed standards, while letting the dogs live a healthy and happy lifestyle. My family, as most people with the same goals, we only breed once every couple of years. My family and I plan each litter carefully paying attention to genetics, health clearances, and pedigrees of the dogs being bred. Puppymillers are the complete opposite. They breed back to back to back litters, where when the bitch, the female dog, is done with one litter and is breed the next cycle that she has. • 16. Netball Is A Ball Sport Played By Two Teams Of Seven Players Netball is a ball sport played by two teams of seven players. Its development, derived from early versions of basketball, began in England in the 1890s. By 1960, international playing rules had been standardised for the game, and the International Federation of Netball and Women s Basketball (later renamed the International NetballFederation (INF)) was formed. As of 2011, the INF comprises more than 60 national teams organized into five global regions. Games are played on a rectangular court with raised goal rings at each end. Each team attempts to score goals by passing a ball down the court and shooting it through its goal ring. Players are assigned specific positions, which define their roles within the team and restrict their movement to certain areas of the court. During general play, a player with the ball can hold on to it for only three seconds before shooting for a goal or passing to another player. The winning team is the one that scores the most goals. Netball games are 60 minutes long. Variations have been developed to increase the game s pace and appeal to a wider audience. Netball is most popular in Commonwealth nations, specifically in schools, and is predominantly played by women. According to the INF, netball is played by more than 20 million people in more than 80 countries.[12][13] Major transnational competitions take place, including the Netball Superleague in Great Britain and the ANZ Championship in Australia and New Zealand. Also known as air pollution, aerosols, and fine particulate matter, PM2.5 has emerged as one of the most significant environmental and public health concerns over the past several decades. PM2.5 has revealed to hold detrimental affects on human health and is attributable to over 130,0000 deaths annually according to 2005 air quality levels (Hoek et al. 2013; CDC). The processes of economic development, urbanization, energy production, and consumption, and transportation have been the primary driving forces of PM2.5. (EPA; Huang et al, 2014) The term refers to microscopic matter suspended in the Earth s atmosphere with a diameter of 2.5Ојg or less that can originate from both natural and/or manmade processes (EPA). What Could Be Better Than A Touchdown Summary Does sports performance depend as much on mental strength and agility as physical power ?After reading What Could Be Better Than a Touchdown by Kelefa Sanneh and Why We Run by Bernd Heinrich, I say mental strength and agility are just as important as physical power in sports. It may be true that physical power is more than mental power in sports. However physical power and mental strength are equally important. In What Could Be Better Than a Touchdown football players needed both mental strength and physical power to be able to score a successful point. • 21. The Wrong Direction Religion has convinced modern society to not only consider humanity s well being: what God wants and our place in either Heaven or Hell in the afterlife (Sutter). Religion, even though there are billions of followers, is based solely on what just a few important religious characters have said. For instance, Islamwas started by a man named Mohammed, who communicated with Godand became a prophet. Nobody saw him or the angel which visited Mohammed at this time, however, when Mohammed came down from the mountain where he was praying, and began to spread the message, people who had previously been polytheists converted to Mohammed s new religion: Islam. Over the course of Mohammed s life, as depicted in the movie The Message , many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second purpose of religion is to instill hope, such as the concept of an afterlife. When a Christian dies, others will believe that they will be able to see each other again when they die, based on the concept that there is a Heaven, where all Christians go (given they prayed for forgiveness and didn t commit any high level crimes, such as murder). However, if that person disobeyed the Christian rules, that person will go to Hell, an eternal damnation. This specific element of religion is one of the main reasons for joining a religion the hope of Heaven for Christians, and similar environments in other religions. However, this isn t the only way the hope of religion is used. When a religious individual prays, many times they will ask a favor of God, such as Please God, let me get an A on this paper , or Please God, help me lose weight . This is where I personally begin to have problems rather than focusing on achieving something personally, such as studying and working hard on a paper, or going to the gym every day to lose weight, prayer is commonly used as a vehicle to hope that something will come true with virtually no work put in. Another example of this hope is if one has a headache and prays to God it will go away, there will be two outcomes: it goes away naturally, then God is celebrated by the individual as their savior, or the headache persists and the individual believes that God is simply testing one s faith. However, the West can accept that the home they seek may not exist anymore and imagine a future without it whereas the East can see no acceptable alternative. We can see this when we compare Salman Rushdie s At The Auction of the Ruby Slippers (ATARS) to his The Prophet s Hair. The West is trying to reclaim the home they have lost and the East is trying to stop the home they have from slipping away. Both stories contain portraits of a better past. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Gale the narrator loves is not the real Gale, who he recently saw at the bar, but his idea of what their home would be if they had stayed together. He realizes this. In The Prophet s Hair, the instinct of the family is to piece their home back together, not to move away from the destructive force of Hashim and The Prophet s Hair. An alternative to family is never considered because the East cannot see a future without home. This seems like a trite observation, because it is likely that there is a reason they never considered leaving a cultural reason. Perhaps it was unthinkable in their society for a family to desert its male leader, but this is exactly the point. They never consider an alternative because of the context of the culture. The fact that the narrator of ATARS can see that his home may no longer exist, gives him the perspective to see an alternative, that the East cannot. The reason that the East cannot see the alternatives to its home that the West can is because that alternative is based on two ideas central to Western culture: freedom and the free market. ATARS ends with the narrator feeling a reduction in weight , a floating (102). He was in fact not the son of a common farmer but the son of a low level. Wallace first acted in anger against the English when he was insulted by the son of an English governor and proceeded to strike him dead and he began his military career. His military dream to free Scotland started in May 1297 after the murder of Marion Braidfoot who is the historical basis for the character Murron in Braveheart. Wallace won the battle of Stirling; he was kind of disappointed when he remembered that he had to fight the English king. The English king brought his army north. The English army had infantry and archers as well as over 3000 cavalry. The Scottish army was only half the size and had almost no cavalry. The Scottish army lost, Wallace however went into hiding. The film Braveheart makes the audience believe that Wallace went around killing his enemies in Scotland, there is however no historical evidence for this belief. Politics were beginning to change due to the manipulations of Edward I and even England s enemies wouldn t offer Wallace any help. After traveling to France, germane and Rome he returns to Scotland after almost years abroad to find out he was betrayed to the English by a Scottish noble named Sir John Menteith and was turned over to the English for a trial. People are often more eager to go on vacations if they believe they are going to be some of the first people to have that experience. Disney utilizes this idea of being the first to make their new customers feel more special and their returning customers feel obligated to try out the new cruise for the first time. The Disney Cruise Line again appeals to kairos in the same way about their new Alaskan cruise. They state, We now also offer an Alaskan cruise that includes historic Sitka, (Disney Cruise Line 4). They again appeal to the idea that this cruise is brand new and that the readers will be more eager to try a new cruise. Over the course of the entire booklet, the Disney Cruise Line attaches the word new to several statements. For example, the cruise line offers all new enhancements and all new watery play areas (Disney Cruise Line 5). In doing using the word new, the company gets the customer more excited about going on the cruise making them believe that they will be the first to try out the additions. It is well known that people are drawn to new things, and Disney takes full advantage of this concept by attaching the word new to whatever statement they can. The thought that the customer is going to experience an aspect of the cruise that is brand new, makes them more excited and more likely to go on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Essay on The Pardons of Purgatory Freedom is the ability one has to choose. Freedom is without consequence, fear of transgression, and lacks regret. Freedom is a fork in the road a trail that leads to fortune in a field of traps. Humans have freedom and hold it as children do crayons, straying beyond the lines of purpose only to get lost in meaningless scribbles. Dante condemns these actions in his poem Purgatory. Dante invents a fictitious location in afterlife, liberating souls that have become prisoners of their own disarray. With a collection of paradoxes, vivid imagery, and active examples, Dante establishes a thorough process in which souls can be cleansed of the past and stride to their future. Purgatory is far from a place of punishment; it is rather a place... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once liberated from one s tainted ability to reason, one must surrender him self to a higher power that will guide him accurately through the trials hurdled toward him. If man alone was responsible to hold himself accountable, he would inevitably taste the savor of some lesser good and chase it, destroying the freedom of [his] will (Dante 173) and fall victim to the seasons of his own desires. Men need some rein or guide (Dante 175) to direct their overhot desires (Dante 265) or they will escalade like weeds growing over a fertile field (Dante 355). Men see the goodness of the matter but cannot do everything by the power of will (Dante 231) allowing their discretion to grow weary in the first battles (Dante 173). As Virgil, a symbol of man abandoned by his ability to freely judge (Dante 173), was prompted by divine grace before he came to rescue Dante from a Siren a being which steals the might of (Dante 203) men. Dante illustrates man s tendency to passively stand aside as his life is acted upon rather than act on the decisions made by mindful consideration. Men must humble themselves to a greater power to lead them to ultimate freedom. Solely a guide will not suffice the redemption of one s soul. One must make conscious and passionate decisions to move forward in growth and change, without portraying doubt or becoming distracted by the shiny plastic gems saturating the world. • 41. Essay about Dante’s Version of Hell In Dante s Inferno, we followed Dante as he narrates his decent and observations of hell. A wonderful part of that depiction is his descriptions of the creative yet cruel punishments that each of the different sinners receive. This story is an integral part of literary history, and even if I were to have the imagination and ability of Dante Alighieri, I don t believe I would change this tried and true version known universally. Since I have the desire to maintain the validity of Dante s version of hell in its entirety, I will explain the parts I found most intriguing, and why. His use of incredible and descript wording was impressive. Dante narrates the vile stench in which groups of men were chained to the hard floors, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sometimes, the guards would throw a bucket of water over the stones to cleanse them; there were however, prisoners underneath the other prisoners and the water would wash all of the excrement and bodily fluids down through grates and drip onto the bodies of the standing prisoners who dare not lie down and could not stand up because of the vile filth on them and around their feet (Cantor). These are only a few descriptions of the various practices of cruelty. The first sin that Dante describes is heresy. The penalty in the medieval era for heresy was often public humiliation, imprisonment or to suffer death by burning. (Cantor). The punishment for the arch heretics and those who followed them was that they be ensepulchered and to have some heated more, some less. (Alighieri). These red hot sepulchers served as a punishment for the heretics, causing burns. The archheretics firmly believed that everything died with the body therefore there was no soul. So, they were punished with the hot and crowded pokers, but they were also punished with their beliefs and they were allowed to feel what it s like to die eternally and lie and wait until the apocalypse. This punishment is one in that was more focused on inflicting a physical and bodily pain rather than a mental one. Another sin whose punishment was administered with the full intention of causing great harm was flattery. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Argumentative Essay On Whaling An Exemption For Whaling For this week s written assignment, I have chosen to address the Norwegian and Japanese positions on permitting whale hunting as a cultural exemption. As someone who was born in Norway, and has visited several whaling towns, I feel that I have some idea of the importance of whaling to Norwegian cultures and national identity. Although Japan is culturally and geographically a very different place to Norway, I feel that the importance of whaling to both cultures provides some similarities between the two nations. 1. Do you agree with the Norwegian and Japanese position on permitting the hunting of non endangered species of whales as a cultural exemption? I find this particular question a difficult one to answer. Whaling is a notoriously cruel method of hunting there is no humane way to kill a whale at sea. Many die a slow, painful death (Whale and Dolphin Conservation, n.d.). There is also concern from whale scientists about the effect of the hunting of whales on whale communities and populations (Whale and Dolphin Conservation, n.d.). It cannot be denied that whaling is an inhumane process, with serious repercussions for the whale species. However, I do feel that Norway and Japan should be able to exercise their right to self determination (as expressed in the UN s Universal Declaration of Human Rights). Both countries argue that whaling is crucial to several of their local communities. The North Atlantic Marine Mammal Commission states ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Civil War And The Black Suffrage Post Civil War, Northern women became increasingly active in the Black suffrage movements in the North. They strategized that by enforcing the right of suffrage for African Americans they would automatically receive the right to vote. Their calculations were based off of the hierarchal rules implied by the Jim Crow South. During the Jim Crow Era, segregationists feared that reconstruction would mess with the inherent order of their society by making Black men equal to White men and beneath them allowing Black women to be equal to White women. Their restoration period stressed that the gender/racial hierarchy be preserved as follows: White men, White women, Black men, and then Black women. The Northern women assumed that there was no way they would give Black men the right to vote without giving White women the right to vote first, since they were higher up on Jim Crow s hierarchy. However, their initial plan was unfeasible due to mutual disagreement amongst men in regards to women s suffrage. Even the radical men believed that supporting women s suffrage was pushing things too far and risked the nullification of the fourteenth amendment. Regardless of, they pushed for its ratification. In 1873 Suzan B. Anthony led the women to go up to the polls to cast votes as a form of protest. Their plan was to go to the polls, get turned away, then sue on behalf of the fourteenth amendment which equally protected them. To their dismay, Anthony was not turned away but instead was ... Many think it is not, but just as many think it is. Professional athletes are overpaid for many reasons, one being they are paid a lot more than people who save lives for a living, another is that they do not need all the money, and lastly because they get millions for something that is an entertainment, and could be lived without. Doctors are paid, on average, about 500,000 dollars a year at the highest. They help people and perform life saving surgeries. The highest average a lawyer is paid yearly is 170,000 dollars, if they are really experienced. Lawyers bring justice to our land.
