Shrek, Basic Communication
This assignment is to show how an understanding of narrative structures, the В‘language of film ,
and binary oppositions can contribute to a critical reading of any one film chosen from the list
given. In interpreting the purpose of this assignment, I have chosen the feature film Shrek to be
analyzed. The overall story of Shrekis simply similar to Disney s Beauty and the Beast. It is a
romantic story between an ugly beast with a beautiful Princess, which is setting up as an old
kingdom movie packed with hilarious jokes and images. The form of the movie is in 3D animation
movie, which is brilliantly created by Dreamworks. In addition, I would like to use this assignment
as an opportunity to argue that the genre of Shrek is a romantic... Show more content on

National Labor Relations Act
Labor unions protect our rights as a person in the work force. The Labor Union Act was much
needed during the Great Depression because it gave people a voice when they were afraid to
speak their thoughts; in fear of being fired, they kept quiet. Once the act was legal, the
employers began to become furious because they had to make sure that their employees were
treated well, this costed them more money. Many employers were against this act because they
were expected to make sure that the work environment was up to par, and the reasons for firing
someone has to be justified with evidence. The National Labor Relations Act was successful
because it helped decrease labor strikes and raised wages; however, it failed to establish a
permanent culture of labor relations in today s society. The National Labor Relations Act was
put into place in order to protect the employment and the rights of a worker. Before the act was
put into effect, there was a large strike that caused an abundance of workers to lose their jobs, this
was shown During 1934, there was a strike so large that it eliminated 400,000 textile workers. This
strike was known as the Textile Workers Strike (Textile

changes the United States have undergone, the people who are a part of the union have the rights
to demand higher wages; ones that they deserve. Labor unions cut down the amount of hours you
have to work and to some people that is a negative thing, but in reality it s good because you get
paid more money per hour. The decrease of work is beneficial because it allows the opportunity for

My Experience Of A Trip To A School Camp
I m going to be honest here; I had mixed feelings about the school camp. I was standing inside a
subway station with my mom and sister, waiting for my two teachers to show up. I kept on
asking Mom that I want to go home and go on a school camp next year. My mom said that I m in
9th grade and going to a 3 day schoolcamp would be a great experience. When my two teachers
arrived, my sister and I said our goodbyes and off we were to camp. During the whole subway ride,
I was upset about the camp; I thought it was going to be boring. However, when I got there, I
realized how wrong I was. When we got to our last stop, we had to walk all the way up the hill to
where our campsite was. By the time we were inside the entrance, I was exhausted.... Show more

In a couple of minutes or so, the teachers had us all sit inside a room, which was near the boys
cabin. One of the teachers told us some basic camp rules and told us to turn our phones in. He
encouraged us to have fun and at the same time be safe. Before we were dismissed, he pointed
out that the team list and the camp schedule were posted inside the boy s and girls cabins; I
looked at the team list and I was placed in Team A. In a few minutes both teams designed each of
their team cheers. Finally, after that we had a water gun fight. I was splashed only once. Even
though I was very wet, I was too happy to mind. It was also very hot outside, which would dry my
clothes in a few minutes. During the water gun fight, the teacher told the students to stop filling up
their water guns because the bathrooms got flooded and muddy. Instead of playing something else,
some students found a loophole; they filled their water guns from the edible water fountain. The
teacher was furious when he found out about it. I asked him that where should I fill my water bottle
when there s no water in the drinking fountain. He said that the water bottle for the fountain would

Death In Judaism
Not all regions where Jews live celebrate life and death in the same way. This is because Jews
had to assimilate to local cultures after they began to disperse to various parts of the world. This
caused traditions to be pushed aside all together or to be blended with local cultures (Parkes, page
99). However, there are many core values that never faded and area consistently practiced in most
parts of the world. Deathin Judaismis an important part of life. As described in Death and
Bereavement Across Cultures, Two of the most important commandments in Jewish tradition are to
honor the dead and comfort the mourner. (98) Respect for the dead is known as, kavod ha met and
the comfort given to the living is known as, nihum avelim (Rich). When... Show more content on

Olam ha ba or the world to come is the belief that the soul returns to God to wait to be reborn
with the coming of the Messiah. Death allows for Jewish people to value life and their short
time spent on earth (Parkes, 101). It is believed that beyond death, life does not include earthly
pleasures such as eating and drinking. After death life consists of being, in the glory of the
Divine Presence. There is no hell after death as a destination. Rather, happiness to those who
lived a righteous life and suffering to those who sinned and led others to sin. There is more of a
reward versus punishment system instead of destinations. The punishment given to those in life
after death is not set in stone, it is described in the Talmud as, vague and contradictory
(Darmesteter, page 51 52). In many branches Christianity it is believed one s soul goes to
purgatory when they die and the decision is made weather your soul will spend eternity in
heaven or hell. Jewish tradition does not believe that souls end up in one of the two destinations
rather, all souls end up in the same place, it is just the journey that is different for different
individuals. When your body dies your soul leaves it and begins its journey to return to God,
this journey is considered a purification process so your soul is pure in the world to come. The
purification process for those who lived a fulfilling and righteous life may only take a day or so
while those who lived a life full of sin take a longer time on their journey to purification, taking up
to a year. After this purification process is complete Jewish tradition states that the soul is then
waiting for the coming of the Messiah when the soul will return to the physical body for final
judgment (Parkes,

Tangerine Competitiveness Quotes
If winning isn t everything, then why do they keep score? Vince Lombardi I think this quote
represents competitiveness because when you re playing with your friends at the park usually you
just play for fun while on an actual court you play to win and you don t feel good no matter how
hard you tried in the gameif you lose, you feel mad. Victor shows a lot of this he tries his best but
when he wins he is happy because he put in the work and he got the win, when he loses then he
is frustrated because he played his heart out and still lost. So how Victor and Joey act about
different times depends on how he does in soccer. Sportsmanship in Tangerine is mixed some

Reflections On Barron And Kenny
Reflections on Barron Kenny s 1986 article The Moderator Mediator Variable Distinction in Social
Psychological Research: Conceptual, Strategic, and Statistical Considerations
The relationships between independent and dependent variables can be very complex. Moderation
and mediation is one way to make sense of this complexity, but add a level of complexity of their
own. Due to this complexity, psychological researchers can be unclear on the differences of the
terms and use them in an inaccurate and misleading fashion, indicating that a moderation is a
mediation and a mediation is a moderation. The authors make the differences clear through
explaining that a moderator allows for changing direction or strength of relationship, while ... Show

A hypothesis might read that the relationship between self kindness and depression is accounted
for in part by self kindness leading to more resilience which leads to less depression. This
mediation is different than than a recent moderation effect in another study where level of
perceived social support acts as a moderator on the relationship between a participant s level of
perceived stress on the previous day and their pain level on the following day. If a participant
has more social support, the relationship between their previous day level of perceived stress and
current day pain level is reduced compared to if they have less perceived social support. This
seems to be obviously a moderator rather than a mediator because level of perceived social
support is changing the slope of the regression line. The relationship between the independent or
predictor variable and the dependent or outcome variable is stronger or weaker depending on the
level of the mediator. It is also possible for the relationship to change direction depending on the
mediator. This seems to further separate moderator from mediator as level of a mediator would not
change the relationship between the predictor and

Frame Narrative In Beowulf
Early English literature proceeds from orally transmitted storytelling, relying on the construction of
an epic past to develop a sense of patriotism within the country. As written culture becomes more
prevalent, however, this genre s timeless attribute diminishes due an increase in recorded history
which gradually turns literature s focus from mystical origins to a concrete present. Frame narrative,
or stories within a story, exist prevalently within the epic genre, but persist throughout this
transition, generally preserving structure, but mutating in function. Although early literature forms
like the epic employ frame narratives to convey their grandiose style, the transition from historical
epics to satirical poetry aligns with frame narrative s transition as an element of style to one of
theme. In British oral tradition, storytellingmainly serves to instill patriotic zeal within citizens. The
advent of literacy results in the transcription of these stories, which predominantly take the form of
the epic: an origin story in which an epic hero displays heroic acts in a setting with few temporal
cues, disconnecting the story from any specific point in history. Beowulf, one such epic, exhibits
these properties, with events transpiring without indication of the relative passage of time. One
literary device which lends itself to the manifestation of this quality, the frame narrative, muddles
the reader s perspective of time by constantly by jumping between events in the main

Cardiovascular Events And Progression Of Ischemia And...
In 2014, myocardial infarctions were the second lead cause of death in Northern Ireland, proceeded
only by malignant neoplasms. (Department of Finance and Personnel. (2015)
They occur as a result of an imbalance between the demand for oxygen and its supply by the
coronary arteries. Indeed, MI s can occur as a result of complications with anemia and heart
spasms. However, the main cause of the condition is produced as a result of atheroma.
Under normal physiological conditions platelets mediate the coagulation of blood and have an
important role within the process of haemostasis. It is only when pathological processes arise that
inappropriate and threatening activation of platelets becomes apparent. Indeed, it is a well known
phenomenon that platelets are involved in the pathogenesis and progression of ischemia and
myocardial infarctions and it is therefore this aim of this review to summarize the inappropriate
activation within the cardiovascular events and how this is related to presentation of a myocardial
infarction. Introduction
Platelets represent an important linkage between inflammation, thrombosis, and atherogenesis, and
have a critical role within the circulatory system in the maintenance of normal haemostasis. (Gawaz,
A., et al. (2005) Platelets primary role and function are in the protection against unwanted blood
loss via thrombus formation, in which, platelets along with red blood cells and the insoluble protein
fibrin, form a platelet plug. Indeed,

outline one probable explanation for the varying outcomes reported in former literature.
Participant/s: 61 participants were involved in the study. Each treated at a major regional medical
burn centre experiencing a TBSA burned average of 13.95%. The participants were mainly men
(83.1%) averaged to 36.86 years of age. Therefore, the participants were hospitalized individuals for
severe burns and fitting the written criteria outlined in the study.
Methodology: All participants had underwent the care procedure. Attempts had been made to
institute optimal opioid levels (morphine), this was done through the use of a patient controlled
analgesia (PCA) or monitoring of morphine elixir (after 48 hours pain medication was altered to
orally administered pills).
Primary measure (DV): Pain medication levels were adjusted according to patient pain reports, this
making it the primary measure. However VAS was used to assess patients worse pain (during
wound debridement procedures). Ratings also contributed (participants were asked to rate how
effective they had thought the hypnosis had been in managing or controlling their pain).
Result/s: Hypnosis was founded to be a useful psychological intervention for reducing pain in

the concert began right about five minutes later. The main scene of an opening performance was a

Beta Latamase Lab Report
A. General Information on Lactamase
1.What is the name of your enzyme? Are there any isozymes for your enzyme? If so, which one
will you be using?
The enzyme that will be focused on is the Beta lactamase enzyme. There exist many isozymes
including Beta lactamase (Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Enteritidis str. 2010K 0284)
and Beta lactamase (Thermoanaerobacter sp). The enzyme that will be reported on is the type TEM
1 Beta lactamase (1).
The TEM 1 type of Beta lactamase is the most common lactamase enzyme found in E. coli. More
importantly, this enzyme is highly interactive with antibiotics by inhibiting antibiotics from
accomplishing their purpose of: halting the synthesis of bacteria cell walls to cease the spread and
existence of the bacteria. This makes TEM type ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Describe an experiment (assay) that could be used to determine the kinetic parameters of your
enzyme.
To determine the kinetic parameters of Beta lactamase, one must be able to perform an experiment
that could be converted into a Michaelis Menten plot. This means that the assay must study the
relationship between the velocity of an enzyme catalyzed reaction is and the substrate
concentration, where velocity is dependent on the substrate concentration (15). The substrate that
could be used is penicillin G. There would be multiple repetitions of the same procedure. For each
run of the assay, the following procedure would be used:
I.Use 10 test tubes with the same amount of B lactamase in each.
II.It would be the amount of substrate (penicillin G) that would vary in increasing amounts in each
test tube. One test tube will have no substrate with each tube having more substrate than the other
until there is a lot of substrate.
III.Measure the initial velocity by determining the rate of product formation in moles per second in
each test tube. The initial velocity would be later converted to the amount of substrate molecules
converted to product under saturated conditions

Impaired Driving In Canada
In the hands of an impaired driver, a vehicle becomes a murderous weapon. ( ) Everyone can

Preventing Attacks on New Network-Based Systems
Preventing Attacks on Nee Network Based Systems Introduction Recent changes in the
organizational structure of the IT system has left open needs for adjusting practices in order to
address new demands of protection. The organization has recently made the move from a
standalone system to a network based one, which facilitates greater cooperation and collaboration
within the company and increasing overall productivity. A network based system provides a more
flexible structure to still function within a diverse and multifaceted environment. It does so by the
fact that within its structure, communication between components is restricted to message passing,
or the equivalent of message passing is a more efficient mechanism can be selected at runtime based
on the location of components (Fielding, 2000). Network based systems allow communication and
dissemination of information to occur seamlessly without lag. This then further empowers
individual employees of the organization with greater technological tools. The research suggests
that network based systems are those capable of operation across a network, but not necessarily in
a fashion that is transparent to the user, but rather as an automatic process that increases the ease
and productivity of each user while working on the system (Fielding, 2000). As such, it comes with
a wide variety of benefits to increase the productivity and efficiency of the organization. Analysis

Figurative Language In The Hollow Men
In T.S Eliot s poem The Hollow Men, the speaker illustrates the loss of identity and the absence of
substance within the hollow men due to the depletion of faith in religion following World War I.
Initially, the speaker reveals that following what was known as the war to end all wars, the men
who had fought are now void of true substance and are only a shell of their prior selves.
Specifically, the speaker describes the voices of the hollow men to be as quiet and meaningless / as
wind in dry grass (9 10). Here, Eliot s simile demonstrates the lack of purpose the veterans of the
war now possess. Just as wind in grass creates a negligible sound, so do the voices of the men the
speaker describes in the poem. What the men say is meaningless and lacks purpose to those who
hear, thus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clearly, Eliot illustrates the purposelessness of the veterans due to the atrocities of the war.
Without color, shade is simply nothing, proving how the hollow men are now nothing and lack
the substances they previously possessed. Also, to emphasize the loss of mental substance, the
speaker wears Such deliberate disguises / Rat s coat, crowskin, crossed staves / In a field
/ Behaving as the wind behaves (34 37). Eliot s allusion to the scarecrow L. Frank Baum s The
Wizard of Oz illustrates the current state of brainlessness of the hollow men. In The Wizard of Oz,
the protagonist, Dorothy, comes across a scarecrow on her journey following the yellow brick road
to reach the Emerald City. The scarecrow reveals that he lacks a brain and is only filled with straw,
but that he wants to be able to think intelligent thoughts. The allusion to this story demonstrates
how there is an absence of substantial thoughts in the veterans, but they wish they could once again
return to their prior selves preceding the war. Additionally, the speaker reveals that in the current
state of the world after

Is Willy Loman A Tragic Hero
The play Death of a Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, is a novel about an ideal American family.
Although the title ideal American family seems ordinary, failed salesman Willy Loman faces
conflicts within his family and out of the household. Aristotle defines the word tragedy as to face
misfortune or disaster, and tragedyin this family expands throughout the novel. Willy Loman
encountered an end that led him to pay the ultimate price: death. Author Arthur Miller focuses the
novel on an average American person because his intent was to reveal what really happens behind
closed doors, Willy s character not exactly portraying the classic role itself. In a New York Times
article, Miller explains how the common man makes the best tragic hero. A common man makes
the best tragic hero because he claims most of them are seen as flawless. The common man is
passive if tragedy hits, and wouldn t take a chance to retaliate if it were to occur. From his own
judgements to his own tragic downfall, Willy Loman fits the characteristics of a tragic hero. As
a modern day tragic hero instead of a classic tragic hero, Willy Loman fits the characteristics of a
tragic hero because of his flaws or error of judgement, the misfortune brought about from error or
judgement, and his recognition that the reversal came from his own actions. Willy Loman is a
modern tragic hero because he had a flaw or error of judgement. He fits this trait because Willy
Loman couldn t accept his actual reality, and instead focused more on his ideal type of life.
Willy neglected the reality he lives in and strives to have the life he dreams of, such as his
mistake of not going to Africa. When his deceased brother Ben went to Africa instead, he claims
that he s discovered riches that Willy longs for in his fantasy world. In addition to that, Loman
had an error of judgement when he cheated on his wife. I realized what a ridiculous lie my whole
life has been. After Biff had found out about the woman and his father, he s decided that his father
had focused more on his illusions more than the actual life he lives in. Because of his illusions he
worked for, his sons were impacted to do the same. Loman fits the title of a tragic hero from the

Iron has been here since the ancient Greece time no one knows who discovered this element. In

Artifacts made of smelted ironhave been found dating from about 3000 BC in Egypt and

everyday life.

Compare And Contrast Materialism And Dualism
Neuroscience, Brain Lesion Deficit and Alzheimer s is the best evidence for Materialism. Firstly, I
ll explain what materialism is and its opposing theory, dualism. Then I ll describe the evidence for
materialism and respond with how dualists would. I conclude that Materialism is the best mind
theory due to scientific evidence.
Materialism and Dualism are both theories based on where the mind is located. The mind consists
of mental states. Mental states can be divided into three categories: cognitive, conative and
affective. Cognitive states are aimed at fitting the world and these include beliefs,
knowledge, memories, understanding and experiences. Conative states are aimed at changing the
world through decisions, choices, will and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What sense is there in having a third party when everything can just be done in the brain? What
stops the soul from having the other functions of the brain if they are so deeply connected. There
s no evidence for the existence of a soul and any missing gaps explaining how the soul and the
body interact are just explained as it s mysterious.
Alzheimer disease shows using neuroscience and brain lesion deficit that it damages the brain and
people with the disease lose many of their mental states and what makes them an individual. When a
person has Alzheimer s their brain is damaged and they develop impaired memory, thinking and
behaviour. Through damages to the brain from the disease and other research scientists can
conclude that certain mental states can be attributed to certain parts of the brain. Such as, that the
temporal lobes of the brain process working memory and higher emotions such as empathy, morality
and regret, the limbic system contains our desire and emotions, the hippocampus forms new
memories and that the cerebellum stores our muscle memory. When a person has Alzheimer s the
brain cells die and lead to the brain shrinking. The connections within the brain are also damaged so
signals cannot be passed. (Fightdementia.org.au, 2014) If the mind was not in fact within the brain
how could Alzheimer s affect a persons mental states that are located within the soul? The soul

Social And Economic Causes And Disadvantages Of Homelessness
As of 2015, about 567,708 people experienced homelessness on a single night (National Alliance to
End Homelessness, n.d.). My interest to research the information needs of this user group arose
because this is a group in society that is sometimes overlooked and underrepresented. Additionally, I
felt like the social and economic factors of this group is unique and the accessibility or barriers to
information can heavily impact the economic mobility of people in this user group. In the article,
Are the economically poor information poor? Does the digital divide affect the homeless and access
to information? Author Julie Hersberger analyzes the information needs of those who are homeless,
their information seeking behavior, their sources of information, and how useful the Internet is as a
means to gain useful information. However, before examining these key points it s important to
understand the causes of homelessnessbecause it can give an insight on the types of information
this user group would need. Hersberger states that there are several, if not many causes of
homelessness. Some of these causes include lack of affordable housing, poverty, unemployment,
domestic violence, mental illness, high costing health care, and addiction (Hersberger, 2003). To
gather data that would give insight into the information needs, information seeking behavior,
information sources, and the usefulness of the Internet as a tool to gain information, the author

Sandusky Case Summary
Poor inventory management allowed the storage of old wine products and promotional items that
led to a buildup of out dated inventory. Poor communication between department managers in
marketing and production also led to the mess. The production department started producing a large
volume of inventory before the marketingdepartment was ready to begin its promotional campaign.
All of this was combined with the current inventory.
Which inventory cost components are missing in the calculation of total inventory cost?
The inventory cost components that are missing are, the cost of storage and inventory risks. The
cost of storing an outdated product line adds to the overall cost of inventory. This takes away from
the profit margin of current production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that the company has lost revenue. If not careful it can also be considered inventory
fraud. This can happen if you show that inventory as part of your net worth and then it no longer
exists reducing the projected value of the company (2).
Some inventory can be salvaged by selling it at a discounted price or, in Sandusky s case
relabeling the promotional wine products. There are also some components of the products that can
be salvaged. The bottles from the wine that were improperly stored can be emptied, sterilized, and
then reused. This would help to reduce the price of inventory purchase costs.
Inventory write off can be explained but never justified. Unless the case is fire or natural disaster
there is no excuse. If the company has proper inventory management then the product will be sent
to market. It will not sit in storage until it becomes out dated obsolete. Improper record keeping and
inventory control does not justify loss of revenue by discarding product.
How would you change the current inventory management practices (including inventory
classification schemes) to ease storage space

Reflection On Classwork
My lesson began as class usually does, with students completing the Do Now up on the board:
having notebooks and pencils ready, picking up the warm up sheet from the back, and writing the
homework in their planner. Since there was no homework from the previous day, we were able to
go right into the warm up. I walked around the classroom to make sure students had the warm up
and were beginning to work. Students were unusually quiet, probably due to the camera and Keith
s presence, so I reminded them that they were allowed to discuss the warm up. I stopped to help
one student get started finding the missing side lengths of two similar triangles and helped another
remember how to divide fractions for the last question. After the students had about 5 minutes to
work on the warm up, I displayed a blank warm up using the document camera and asked for
students to share their answers. I asked an additional question about what the scale factor was for
the triangles and modeled using the scale factor to find the missing side lengths. pointed out to
students that all the fraction questions related to a pair of corresponding side lengths in the
triangles from the first question, recalling that we could use fractions to represent or find
corresponding sides in similar shapes.
Next, I introduced that we will be exploring proportional relationships on a graph and that we
would be trying a new style of group work. I explained the structure to the students, that they would

Before Agincour and Dulce et decorum est
========================================
I have chosen to compare two poems for this piece of work, and they are Dulce et decorum est by
Wilfred Owen, and Before Agincourt by
William Shakespeare. Both look at War as the main subject, but express very different views on it.
Wilfred Owen has written a very powerful poem about a man dying from a gas attack during the
First World War, whereas Shakespeare writes a rhetoric poem about the honour and pride found in
battle.
ВЎDulce et decorum estВЎ, and ВЎBefore AgincourtВЎ are two poems so incredibly far away, in

By jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires:
He thinks that honour and pride are worth dying for, and worth killing for. He feels that the fewer
the men who fight for England, then the bigger the victory will be. He wants no cowards fighting
for England, either. Let he that hath no stomach for this fight,
Let him depart, his passport shall be made.
Henry is so adamant that honour is the best thing you could have, that he even believes it will make
him immortal
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it alone shall be remembered;
Wilfred Owen is not totally against war, but, as it says at the end of the poem, the old lie:
Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria moriВґ or
It is sweet and fitting
To die for your country
He is very angry about this lie that is being told to young children and the citizens of England that
are back at home, not fighting.
Wilfred Owen also believes in honour, and doing what you believe in.
He believes in telling all of England what it is really like on the front line.
ShakespeareВґs poem is about following what you believe, even if it kills you, that it is better to
die fighting than to live knowing what you could have done. This feeling isnВґt as relevant now, in

The essence of P2M is focussed on the profiling ideas of complexity to implementation and finding
solutions to complex issues [2]. Overall, the basic context of P2M defines program and program
management as a practical capability to respond to external changes, allowing flexibility that copes
with ambiguity, complexity, uncertainty and expandability [5].
Subsequently, Japanese companies experienced a deflationary depression in the 1990s. To survive
and regain their global competitiveness, the Japanese looked for solutions in the kaikaku (reforms
or innovative reforms) of business management, organization and technology. Kaikaku Project
Management (KPM) is an advanced version of P2M. KPM consists of three significant Japanese
elements for successful performance: 3K kakusin (innovation), kaihatsu (development) and kaizen
(improvement). In organizational models, 3S (scheme, system, service) project models in terms of
lifecycle in value creation paradigm are proposed, and KPM is the core management for integration
and innovation by 3S/3K combined methodology [8]. Companies that construct their organizations
with the elements of KPM, namely innovation, development and reform, while being aware of the
project models, will have a project management system that functions well, and often such a case
leads to successful projects [9].
The KPM method explores the enhanced methodology of strategy

Educational Preparation For Nursing Education
The modern nursing profession has relied on the evolution of nursing education to shape the
knowledge and ideals of its practitioners. However, nursing education was not always at the level
and quality it is today. It took the hard work of historical nursing leaders to change the course of
nursing education. One of these leaders, May Adelaide Nutting, was instrumental in expanding
nursing education during the turn of the 20th century. Her work inspired new ideologies
concerning nursing education and implemented novel nursing practices, both of which have helped
to shape nursing education today. In the later years of the nineteenth century, hospitals primarily
managed nursing education in the form of training schools. Though described as schools, there was
little formal instruction, and the students served mostly as a cheap labor force (Nutting, 1926;
Reverby, 1987). Mary Adelaide Nutting recognized the need for better educational preparation for
nurses in order to help advance the nursing profession and began implementing changes to the
training school model when she became the superintendent of nurses at the Johns Hopkins Hospital
Training School. In this role, Nutting set out to enhance the training program to provide better
educational preparation for the students. She argued that the current structure served only the
hospital s needs, and she emphasized that nursing was the only profession without true educational
preparation for its pupils (Nutting, 1926). Nutting

How To Write An Essay On The Hobbit
The Hobbit by John Ronald Reul Tolkien

fantasy that addressed the fundamental needs as he saw them of humanity. He wrote about these
needs and his purpose in an essay called J.R.R. Tolkien, On Fairy Stories However before I

understand that within in his essay addressing fairy tales Tolkien defines fairy stories as A tale

The world of fairy takes just as much time and effort to get over the loss of a loved one as our
world. The world of fairy takes the the form more of an allegory than a cure. Tolkien turned his
grief into a magical world full of monsters and obstacles to overcome to distract himself from the
real challenges he faced. He wasn t aware he was doing this and i think he held that ignorance to
his grave. For a better look at it we must look through the perspective of Sigmund Freud and his
philosophical concepts. I m going to go into depth on two of his concepts as they are very fitting
with Tolkien s work and background. However there is the possibility that more than these two
possibly even all of Freud s concepts can be applied to Tolkien. The first concept being that of The
unconscious mind , in which Freud believes our mind has three parts. The first level is
consciousness which consists of thoughts that are the currently occupying our mind. This is a
very basic concept it s essentially saying what you are currently thinking or in this case reading
is your conscious mind at work. The second level is the preconscious level, another simple
concept as it is simply your memory. What you did this morning, what you had for breakfast these
are all examples of the preconscious mind. The third level and the one we will be addressing is
that of the

An Analysis Of John Cheever s The Swimmer
Snigdha Sama
Mrs. Hurtado
English I H
9 March 2016 A Tale of Riches to Rags in The Swimmer The character and intelligence of a
person is truly shown when he or she is forced to face reality. This is clearly established in The
Swimmer , a story about a man thrown off his high horse. The story starts with Neddy Merrill
and his group of wealthy socialites conversing at the Westerhazys house. Flashing back to his
Olympic days, Neddy decides to swim through bodies of water to reach his house. He calls this trail
the Lucinda River and with a lot of effort, as he isn t as fast as he was in his prime years, he
reaches his house, only to find it empty and devoid of his wife and daughters. John Cheever
cleverly brings together a seemingly random series of events and combines them. His writing style
is best explained by his own words when he says Fiction is art and art is the triumph over chaos. In
his award winning short story, The Swimmer , John Cheever uses symbolism, imagery, and
characterization to establish a seemingly silly and childish tone that evolves into a somber and
realistic mood.
Symbolism is used a lot in the establishment of the mood. One way Cheever used symbolism in
the story was the change from dawn to dusk he shows in the tale. At the beginning of the story,
Neddy Merrill says It was a fine day. In the west there was a massive stand of cumulus cloud so like
a city seen from a distance from the bow of an approaching ship that it might have a

Violence In The Civil Rights Movement Essay
Discuss the role of violence and the media during the civil rights movement. The media brought the

Do you want to go out the the edge and jump into the water? I asked.
Sure, Lowden Replied
We kept walking slowly down towards the edge of the wall. We got the the edge of the wall, and

Essay On Strength Training
The purpose of the study is to examine the effect of strength training exercises for the trunk and
lower extremity on strength, balance, and motor function in children with spastic diplegia cerebral
palsy (CP). The study applies to my intervention because I want to work on strengthening the trunk
muscles to increase core stability.
The study design of the research is a randomized controlled trial. It is appropriate for the study
question because it compared children who received strength training in the experimental group to
children who received conventional physical therapy treatment in the control group. Hence, the
outcome demonstrates whether strength training is more beneficial in improving strength, balance,
and motor function in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Participants were randomly allocated into two groups by stratified randomization. The experimental
group received 6 weeks of strength training exercises and the control group received 6 weeks of
conventional intervention. Before the start of the intervention, general assessment of strength,
balance, and gross motor function was conducted by a qualified physical therapist. The
experimental group completed intensive strength training with progressive resisted exercises in
different workstations. The exercises were performed three times per week and each session lasted
between 60 90 minutes. The experimental group also received conventional physiotherapy
treatment 1 2 days a week. In contrast, the control group only received conventional physiotherapy
treatment 3 5 sessions per week, with each session lasting between 60 90 minutes. The conventional
physiotherapy treatment included range of motion and stretching exercise, mobility training,
movement transitions, positioning or prescription of adaptive devices, gait training, and functional
activities.
There was a significant increase in strength in all the tested muscle groups for the experimental
group while only some muscle groups increased in strength for the control group. Increase in
balance was also noted when assessed with the PBS for the experimental group. Significant

Elements Of My Identity
A person s identity is formed based on a variety of different factors. Every day, each individual on
this planet is currently developing the elements of establishing an actual identity. An identity can be
built through culture, family, friends, personal experiences, aspirations, interests, and even
genetics! Some aspects tend to have a greater impact on creating a persons identity, and other
aspects tend to have greater importance in a persons life than others. These factors are what make
each and every one of us unique. Since the day was born, our parents have contributed significantly
in developing our identities. Their guidance and better judgment have to lead us to become the
human beings we are today. Not to mention, some of our... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I ve come to apprehend that genetic plays a vital role in building my true identity, so if an
attitude strikes in, just know, it was inherited from my mother Another important aspect that
contributes to building an individual s identity is the personal experience. During my short 18
years of life, I ve experienced failure, achievement, and change along the way. Some of my
proudest moments included becoming the salutatorian of the Allen Village High School
graduating class of 2017. Despite the hard work and dedication I put in throughout the last four
years, it was all worth it after I walked towards that stage to receive and be recognized for this
achievement. Another outstanding achievement involved earning a nursing assistant
certification. I have worked hard and sacrificed my summer to complete the requirements
needed to take the C.N.A. Missouri State Exam. The first time I took the exam, I failed by a
couple of questions. This was the first time I`ve ever failed at something so major, and not to
mention how devastated I was. I had let everyone who ever believed in me down, and it was the
worst feeling I ever experienced. Then, my parent s wise words and encouragement persuaded
me to retake the exam on last final time. My heart skipped a beat when the examiner said, you ve
passed. It was then when I realized; I was on my way towards a successful life. As you were have

Food Digestion Research Paper
Digestion begins when one sees food. Upon seeing food the brain sends signals for the salivary
glands to release saliva. When food is first placed into the mouth by taking a bite it is masticated
and broken down to increase the surface area so that food can be digested faster, as well as
allowing it to be swallowed. While being masticated food is moistened with saliva, which contains
Amylase, which begins the process of breaking down carbohydrates. Once thoroughly chewed
saliva forms the food into a clump, which is called a bolus. Once food is chewed and formed into
a bolus the tongue pushes the food to the back of the mouthinto the throat so that it can be
swallowed. Swallowing occurs by reflexes opening and closing the epiglottis, which... Show more

The bile that is released is produced by the liver, which then fills the bile duct before overflowing
and then being stored in the gallbladder, which then allows it into the duodenum through a duct.
In between meals the gallbladder absorbs water and electrolytes from the bile. The bile that is
released is used to emulsify fats, which is to make the fats separate into small droplets. This
allows them to be mixed with water and then acted upon by enzymes to further help their
digestion. It is easier for the lipids to be broken down once they are emulsified because they are
smaller and the lipase can attack it more completely. Bile itself is a green colored fluid that is
made of minerals, cholesterol, neutral fats, phospholipids, bile acids also called bile salts, and
bile pigments. Bilirubin is what gives the color to the bile, and it is produced from the
decomposition of hemoglobin as previously stated. Bile acids are steroids that are formed from
cholesterol. Both bile acid and lecithin, which is a phospholipid, help digest and absorb fats.
Anything else that is in bile is waste that will be excreted. In the end however around eighty
percent of the bile acids are reabsorbed in the ileum, which is the last section of the small intestine,
and they are returned to the liver where they are absorbed and re secreted by hepatocytes. The
circle of secretion and reabsorption is called the enterohepatic

Writing Process Essay
Writing Process
When in school, be it college, required schooling, or online, most courses required the student to
write papers to express his understanding of the subjects at hand. For many students, writing can be
an extremely difficult procedure. However, there is a series of steps that can make this process less
daunting, this process is called the Writing Process.
The writing process is a step by step route that a student can follow to make sure that his paper is
ready to be turned in to the instructor. As explained in University of Phoenixs video Writing

This research usually consists of a student going out of his way to find and gather information on a
certain subject, or subjects. This research not only gives the student information to include in his
written work, but will also likely teach him more about the subject at hand.
The most important thing, when doing research, is to make sure said research is credible and
reliable. Because information is wildly available nowadays, finding wrong or skewed information
is not only easy but common. Being that, students need to learn how to find and use the academic
resources available. For University of Phoenix students, there are three main academic resources
available. One of these is the wildly accessible resource called the Internet and the two exclusive
resources for Phoenix s students only, the Centre for Writing Excellence and the University Library
available on Phoenix Online.

extensive resource for learning new and interesting things, meaning it is an incredible writing

Imperialism In Frantz Fanon s The Wretched Of The Earth
In his book Culture and Imperialism, Edward Said articulates on the hybrid nature of postcolonial
identities:
No one today is purely one thing. Labels like Indian, or woman, or Muslim, or American are not
more than starting points, which if followed into actual experience for only a moment are quickly
left behind. Imperialism consolidated the mixture of cultures and identities on a global scale. But
its worst and most paradoxical gift was to allow people to believe that they were only, mainly,
exclusively, white, or Black, or Western, or Oriental (Said 336).
Colonialism constructed a sense of hybridity among the colonized and the colonizers reflecting that
homogeneity is nonexistent in post colonial societies; yet, homogeneity ... Show more content on

countries colonized. Europe was competing against this because they wanted the colonies that

The women during these times were making themselves known. They were beginning to open up

that women belonged at home, taking care of his kids.
The invention of new technology carried over throughout the years. After World War II, technology

Dance Philosophy
The question, why I dance, seems simple and obvious. My first thought is that I just dance, that
s why. Because there was never a day when I chose dance, it is just a part of me that has always
been there. My mother put me in dance classes when I was three years old to give me something
to do while my newborn brother got all of the attention. For as long as I can remember I was
dancing. I thought that dancewas just what I did, but the truth is that no one is forcing me to
dance. It would be more accurate to say that I am forcing everyone else around me to let me
dance. I choose walk myself to dance when my parents will not drive me, and I choose to stay up
until three a.m. going over every correction given to me in every combination at... Show more

My beloved teacher taught us that it is okay if there is that one percent of the time where your
feet so desperately want to escape your pointe shoes, your legs are so sore that they can barely
walk up the stairs, your mind is so foggy after rehearsing your variation over and over upwards of
50 times during the past 6 hours, and you still cannot manage to get the turn section at the end
correct. You are allowed to hate ballet for that one day as long as you wake up the next morning
ready to go dance your heart out and nail that turn section. All real dancers love dance most of
the time. When I am feeling extra stressed because I have a test in every subject at school the
next day and three large projects to finish, everyone around me tries to force me to stay home
from dance. They do not understand that dance class is the one way I can escape from my
anxieties about school. Dance does not add to my stress, but is the only way I can cope with it.
It is impossible to be worried at dance because there are so many things to be thinking about at
the same time that there is no room to worry about anything else. Dancers do not dance because we
want to, but because we have to. Wherever we are, we find a way to dance because it is a part of
who we are. We are

Dream Intired By Langston Hughes, Dreams And Dream Deferred
Are dreams alive? Within the thought provoking and inciteful poems, Dreams and Dream Deferred
Langston Hughes uses repetitions, binaries, and strands to bring alive the human subconscious that
is often overlooked in daily life. Although the poems attempt to impart wisdom concerning
subconscious decision making, the fundamental message is about the importance of seeing the
silver lining and seizing opportunities before they become a regret.
A dream is an opportunity to give birth to reality through harvesting thought. Making appearances
in the poems and as part of the title, the word dream dominates both poems in their entirety. The
poems treat the word not as unconscious thoughts that ensue sleep, but as an abstract form of
unrealized potential.
The most notable binary opposition is barren versus explode, which is the decision that Langston
Hughes places on the audience s shoulders. Arnold Schwarzenegger could not have said it better
himself in giving his famous ultimatum as the Terminator, Come with me if you want to live. .
Barren describes lifelessness in space while explode is the action that overcomes it. Explode brings
warmth and life into the cold, barren vacuum synonymous to the Big Bang Theory. While barren
and explode do not actually repeat, they are repeated throughout the poems in other binary
oppositional forms: Life versus die and sweet opposed by rotten. Through these words, the poems
express a quiet protest that holds the death of dreams in contempt of the beautiful, and responsible
for what is barren and lifeless.
Throughout Dream Deferred, strands can be spotted that are initially harsh coming off the tongue.
Mental images of rotten meat and festering sores evoke negative connotations that vividly describe
stubborn emotional chaffing. It is the kind of negativity that hit a person straight in the gut like
divorce or home buyer s remorse.
Thereafter, Hughes subtly progresses into a more positive light, not letting the reader forget that
the light does not completely outshine the darkness: Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or
fester like a sore And then run? This could be an attempt by Hughes at reassurance, saying that there
s light at the end of the tunnel when one has

  • 3. National Labor Relations Act Labor unions protect our rights as a person in the work force. The Labor Union Act was much needed during the Great Depression because it gave people a voice when they were afraid to speak their thoughts; in fear of being fired, they kept quiet. Once the act was legal, the employers began to become furious because they had to make sure that their employees were treated well, this costed them more money. Many employers were against this act because they were expected to make sure that the work environment was up to par, and the reasons for firing someone has to be justified with evidence. The National Labor Relations Act was successful because it helped decrease labor strikes and raised wages; however, it failed to establish a permanent culture of labor relations in today s society. The National Labor Relations Act was put into place in order to protect the employment and the rights of a worker. Before the act was put into effect, there was a large strike that caused an abundance of workers to lose their jobs, this was shown During 1934, there was a strike so large that it eliminated 400,000 textile workers. This strike was known as the Textile Workers Strike (Textile ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of the changes the United States have undergone, the people who are a part of the union have the rights to demand higher wages; ones that they deserve. • 4. My Experience Of A Trip To A School Camp I m going to be honest here; I had mixed feelings about the school camp. I was standing inside a subway station with my mom and sister, waiting for my two teachers to show up. I kept on asking Mom that I want to go home and go on a school camp next year. My mom said that I m in 9th grade and going to a 3 day schoolcamp would be a great experience. When my two teachers arrived, my sister and I said our goodbyes and off we were to camp. During the whole subway ride, I was upset about the camp; I thought it was going to be boring. However, when I got there, I realized how wrong I was. When we got to our last stop, we had to walk all the way up the hill to where our campsite was. By the time we were inside the entrance, I was exhausted.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a couple of minutes or so, the teachers had us all sit inside a room, which was near the boys cabin. One of the teachers told us some basic camp rules and told us to turn our phones in. He encouraged us to have fun and at the same time be safe. Before we were dismissed, he pointed out that the team list and the camp schedule were posted inside the boy s and girls cabins; I looked at the team list and I was placed in Team A. In a few minutes both teams designed each of their team cheers. Finally, after that we had a water gun fight. I was splashed only once. Even though I was very wet, I was too happy to mind. It was also very hot outside, which would dry my clothes in a few minutes. During the water gun fight, the teacher told the students to stop filling up their water guns because the bathrooms got flooded and muddy. Instead of playing something else, some students found a loophole; they filled their water guns from the edible water fountain. The teacher was furious when he found out about it. I asked him that where should I fill my water bottle when there s no water in the drinking fountain. He said that the water bottle for the fountain would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Death In Judaism Not all regions where Jews live celebrate life and death in the same way. This is because Jews had to assimilate to local cultures after they began to disperse to various parts of the world. This caused traditions to be pushed aside all together or to be blended with local cultures (Parkes, page 99). However, there are many core values that never faded and area consistently practiced in most parts of the world. Deathin Judaismis an important part of life. As described in Death and Bereavement Across Cultures, Two of the most important commandments in Jewish tradition are to honor the dead and comfort the mourner. Olam ha ba or the world to come is the belief that the soul returns to God to wait to be reborn with the coming of the Messiah. Death allows for Jewish people to value life and their short time spent on earth (Parkes, 101). It is believed that beyond death, life does not include earthly pleasures such as eating and drinking. After death life consists of being, in the glory of the Divine Presence. There is no hell after death as a destination. Rather, happiness to those who lived a righteous life and suffering to those who sinned and led others to sin. There is more of a reward versus punishment system instead of destinations. The punishment given to those in life after death is not set in stone, it is described in the Talmud as, vague and contradictory (Darmesteter, page 51 52). In many branches Christianity it is believed one s soul goes to purgatory when they die and the decision is made weather your soul will spend eternity in heaven or hell. Jewish tradition does not believe that souls end up in one of the two destinations rather, all souls end up in the same place, it is just the journey that is different for different individuals. When your body dies your soul leaves it and begins its journey to return to God, this journey is considered a purification process so your soul is pure in the world to come. The purification process for those who lived a fulfilling and righteous life may only take a day or so while those who lived a life full of sin take a longer time on their journey to purification, taking up to a year. After this purification process is complete Jewish tradition states that the soul is then waiting for the coming of the Messiah when the soul will return to the physical body for final judgment (Parkes, ... Vince Lombardi I think this quote represents competitiveness because when you re playing with your friends at the park usually you just play for fun while on an actual court you play to win and you don t feel good no matter how hard you tried in the gameif you lose, you feel mad. Victor shows a lot of this he tries his best but when he wins he is happy because he put in the work and he got the win, when he loses then he is frustrated because he played his heart out and still lost. • 8. Reflections On Barron And Kenny Reflections on Barron Kenny s 1986 article The Moderator Mediator Variable Distinction in Social Psychological Research: Conceptual, Strategic, and Statistical Considerations The relationships between independent and dependent variables can be very complex. Moderation and mediation is one way to make sense of this complexity, but add a level of complexity of their own. Due to this complexity, psychological researchers can be unclear on the differences of the terms and use them in an inaccurate and misleading fashion, indicating that a moderation is a mediation and a mediation is a moderation. The authors make the differences clear through explaining that a moderator allows for changing direction or strength of relationship, while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A hypothesis might read that the relationship between self kindness and depression is accounted for in part by self kindness leading to more resilience which leads to less depression. This mediation is different than than a recent moderation effect in another study where level of perceived social support acts as a moderator on the relationship between a participant s level of perceived stress on the previous day and their pain level on the following day. If a participant has more social support, the relationship between their previous day level of perceived stress and current day pain level is reduced compared to if they have less perceived social support. This seems to be obviously a moderator rather than a mediator because level of perceived social support is changing the slope of the regression line. The relationship between the independent or predictor variable and the dependent or outcome variable is stronger or weaker depending on the level of the mediator. It is also possible for the relationship to change direction depending on the mediator. This seems to further separate moderator from mediator as level of a mediator would not change the relationship between the predictor and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Frame Narrative In Beowulf Early English literature proceeds from orally transmitted storytelling, relying on the construction of an epic past to develop a sense of patriotism within the country. As written culture becomes more prevalent, however, this genre s timeless attribute diminishes due an increase in recorded history which gradually turns literature s focus from mystical origins to a concrete present. Frame narrative, or stories within a story, exist prevalently within the epic genre, but persist throughout this transition, generally preserving structure, but mutating in function. Although early literature forms like the epic employ frame narratives to convey their grandiose style, the transition from historical epics to satirical poetry aligns with frame narrative s transition as an element of style to one of theme. In British oral tradition, storytellingmainly serves to instill patriotic zeal within citizens. The advent of literacy results in the transcription of these stories, which predominantly take the form of the epic: an origin story in which an epic hero displays heroic acts in a setting with few temporal cues, disconnecting the story from any specific point in history. Beowulf, one such epic, exhibits these properties, with events transpiring without indication of the relative passage of time. One literary device which lends itself to the manifestation of this quality, the frame narrative, muddles the reader s perspective of time by constantly by jumping between events in the main ... • 10. Cardiovascular Events And Progression Of Ischemia And... In 2014, myocardial infarctions were the second lead cause of death in Northern Ireland, proceeded only by malignant neoplasms. (Department of Finance and Personnel. (2015) They occur as a result of an imbalance between the demand for oxygen and its supply by the coronary arteries. Indeed, MI s can occur as a result of complications with anemia and heart spasms. However, the main cause of the condition is produced as a result of atheroma. Under normal physiological conditions platelets mediate the coagulation of blood and have an important role within the process of haemostasis. It is only when pathological processes arise that inappropriate and threatening activation of platelets becomes apparent. Indeed, it is a well known phenomenon that platelets are involved in the pathogenesis and progression of ischemia and myocardial infarctions and it is therefore this aim of this review to summarize the inappropriate activation within the cardiovascular events and how this is related to presentation of a myocardial infarction. Introduction Platelets represent an important linkage between inflammation, thrombosis, and atherogenesis, and have a critical role within the circulatory system in the maintenance of normal haemostasis. (Gawaz, A., et al. (2005) Platelets primary role and function are in the protection against unwanted blood loss via thrombus formation, in which, platelets along with red blood cells and the insoluble protein fibrin, form a platelet plug. Attempts had been made to institute optimal opioid levels (morphine), this was done through the use of a patient controlled analgesia (PCA) or monitoring of morphine elixir (after 48 hours pain medication was altered to orally administered pills). Primary measure (DV): Pain medication levels were adjusted according to patient pain reports, this making it the primary measure. However VAS was used to assess patients worse pain (during wound debridement procedures). Ratings also contributed (participants were asked to rate how effective they had thought the hypnosis had been in managing or controlling their pain). To determine the kinetic parameters of Beta lactamase, one must be able to perform an experiment that could be converted into a Michaelis Menten plot. The substrate that could be used is penicillin G. There would be multiple repetitions of the same procedure. For each run of the assay, the following procedure would be used: I.Use 10 test tubes with the same amount of B lactamase in each. II.It would be the amount of substrate (penicillin G) that would vary in increasing amounts in each test tube. One test tube will have no substrate with each tube having more substrate than the other until there is a lot of substrate. III.Measure the initial velocity by determining the rate of product formation in moles per second in each test tube. The initial velocity would be later converted to the amount of substrate molecules converted to product under saturated conditions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Preventing Attacks on New Network-Based Systems Preventing Attacks on Nee Network Based Systems Introduction Recent changes in the organizational structure of the IT system has left open needs for adjusting practices in order to address new demands of protection. The organization has recently made the move from a standalone system to a network based one, which facilitates greater cooperation and collaboration within the company and increasing overall productivity. A network based system provides a more flexible structure to still function within a diverse and multifaceted environment. It does so by the fact that within its structure, communication between components is restricted to message passing, or the equivalent of message passing is a more efficient mechanism can be selected at runtime based on the location of components (Fielding, 2000). Network based systems allow communication and dissemination of information to occur seamlessly without lag. This then further empowers individual employees of the organization with greater technological tools. The research suggests that network based systems are those capable of operation across a network, but not necessarily in a fashion that is transparent to the user, but rather as an automatic process that increases the ease and productivity of each user while working on the system (Fielding, 2000). As such, it comes with a wide variety of benefits to increase the productivity and efficiency of the organization. Analysis However, with the implementation of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Figurative Language In The Hollow Men In T.S Eliot s poem The Hollow Men, the speaker illustrates the loss of identity and the absence of substance within the hollow men due to the depletion of faith in religion following World War I. Initially, the speaker reveals that following what was known as the war to end all wars, the men who had fought are now void of true substance and are only a shell of their prior selves. Specifically, the speaker describes the voices of the hollow men to be as quiet and meaningless / as wind in dry grass (9 10). Here, Eliot s simile demonstrates the lack of purpose the veterans of the war now possess. Just as wind in grass creates a negligible sound, so do the voices of the men the speaker describes in the poem. What the men say is meaningless and lacks purpose to those who hear, thus ... Eliot s allusion to the scarecrow L. Frank Baum s The Wizard of Oz illustrates the current state of brainlessness of the hollow men. In The Wizard of Oz, the protagonist, Dorothy, comes across a scarecrow on her journey following the yellow brick road to reach the Emerald City. The scarecrow reveals that he lacks a brain and is only filled with straw, but that he wants to be able to think intelligent thoughts. • 19. Is Willy Loman A Tragic Hero The play Death of a Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, is a novel about an ideal American family. Although the title ideal American family seems ordinary, failed salesman Willy Loman faces conflicts within his family and out of the household. Aristotle defines the word tragedy as to face misfortune or disaster, and tragedyin this family expands throughout the novel. Willy Loman encountered an end that led him to pay the ultimate price: death. Author Arthur Miller focuses the novel on an average American person because his intent was to reveal what really happens behind closed doors, Willy s character not exactly portraying the classic role itself. In a New York Times article, Miller explains how the common man makes the best tragic hero. A common man makes the best tragic hero because he claims most of them are seen as flawless. The common man is passive if tragedy hits, and wouldn t take a chance to retaliate if it were to occur. From his own judgements to his own tragic downfall, Willy Loman fits the characteristics of a tragic hero. As a modern day tragic hero instead of a classic tragic hero, Willy Loman fits the characteristics of a tragic hero because of his flaws or error of judgement, the misfortune brought about from error or judgement, and his recognition that the reversal came from his own actions. Willy Loman is a modern tragic hero because he had a flaw or error of judgement. He fits this trait because Willy Loman couldn t accept his actual reality, and instead focused more on his ideal type of life. Willy neglected the reality he lives in and strives to have the life he dreams of, such as his mistake of not going to Africa. When his deceased brother Ben went to Africa instead, he claims that he s discovered riches that Willy longs for in his fantasy world. In addition to that, Loman had an error of judgement when he cheated on his wife. I realized what a ridiculous lie my whole life has been. After Biff had found out about the woman and his father, he s decided that his father had focused more on his illusions more than the actual life he lives in. Because of his illusions he worked for, his sons were impacted to do the same. Loman fits the title of a tragic hero from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since there was no homework from the previous day, we were able to go right into the warm up. I walked around the classroom to make sure students had the warm up and were beginning to work. Students were unusually quiet, probably due to the camera and Keith s presence, so I reminded them that they were allowed to discuss the warm up. I stopped to help one student get started finding the missing side lengths of two similar triangles and helped another remember how to divide fractions for the last question. After the students had about 5 minutes to work on the warm up, I displayed a blank warm up using the document camera and asked for students to share their answers. I asked an additional question about what the scale factor was for the triangles and modeled using the scale factor to find the missing side lengths. pointed out to students that all the fraction questions related to a pair of corresponding side lengths in the triangles from the first question, recalling that we could use fractions to represent or find corresponding sides in similar shapes. • 33. Educational Preparation For Nursing Education The modern nursing profession has relied on the evolution of nursing education to shape the knowledge and ideals of its practitioners. However, nursing education was not always at the level and quality it is today. It took the hard work of historical nursing leaders to change the course of nursing education. One of these leaders, May Adelaide Nutting, was instrumental in expanding nursing education during the turn of the 20th century. Her work inspired new ideologies concerning nursing education and implemented novel nursing practices, both of which have helped to shape nursing education today. In the later years of the nineteenth century, hospitals primarily managed nursing education in the form of training schools. Though described as schools, there was little formal instruction, and the students served mostly as a cheap labor force (Nutting, 1926; Reverby, 1987). Mary Adelaide Nutting recognized the need for better educational preparation for nurses in order to help advance the nursing profession and began implementing changes to the training school model when she became the superintendent of nurses at the Johns Hopkins Hospital Training School. In this role, Nutting set out to enhance the training program to provide better educational preparation for the students. She argued that the current structure served only the hospital s needs, and she emphasized that nursing was the only profession without true educational preparation for its pupils (Nutting, 1926). This is clearly established in The Swimmer , a story about a man thrown off his high horse. The story starts with Neddy Merrill and his group of wealthy socialites conversing at the Westerhazys house. Flashing back to his Olympic days, Neddy decides to swim through bodies of water to reach his house. He calls this trail the Lucinda River and with a lot of effort, as he isn t as fast as he was in his prime years, he reaches his house, only to find it empty and devoid of his wife and daughters. John Cheever cleverly brings together a seemingly random series of events and combines them. His writing style is best explained by his own words when he says Fiction is art and art is the triumph over chaos. In his award winning short story, The Swimmer , John Cheever uses symbolism, imagery, and characterization to establish a seemingly silly and childish tone that evolves into a somber and realistic mood. Symbolism is used a lot in the establishment of the mood. One way Cheever used symbolism in the story was the change from dawn to dusk he shows in the tale. • 45. Food Digestion Research Paper Digestion begins when one sees food. Upon seeing food the brain sends signals for the salivary glands to release saliva. When food is first placed into the mouth by taking a bite it is masticated and broken down to increase the surface area so that food can be digested faster, as well as allowing it to be swallowed. While being masticated food is moistened with saliva, which contains Amylase, which begins the process of breaking down carbohydrates. Once thoroughly chewed saliva forms the food into a clump, which is called a bolus. The bile that is released is produced by the liver, which then fills the bile duct before overflowing and then being stored in the gallbladder, which then allows it into the duodenum through a duct. In between meals the gallbladder absorbs water and electrolytes from the bile. The bile that is released is used to emulsify fats, which is to make the fats separate into small droplets. This allows them to be mixed with water and then acted upon by enzymes to further help their digestion. It is easier for the lipids to be broken down once they are emulsified because they are smaller and the lipase can attack it more completely. Bile itself is a green colored fluid that is made of minerals, cholesterol, neutral fats, phospholipids, bile acids also called bile salts, and bile pigments. Bilirubin is what gives the color to the bile, and it is produced from the decomposition of hemoglobin as previously stated. Bile acids are steroids that are formed from cholesterol. Both bile acid and lecithin, which is a phospholipid, help digest and absorb fats. Anything else that is in bile is waste that will be excreted. In the end however around eighty percent of the bile acids are reabsorbed in the ileum, which is the last section of the small intestine, and they are returned to the liver where they are absorbed and re secreted by hepatocytes. • 52. Dream Intired By Langston Hughes, Dreams And Dream Deferred Are dreams alive? Within the thought provoking and inciteful poems, Dreams and Dream Deferred Langston Hughes uses repetitions, binaries, and strands to bring alive the human subconscious that is often overlooked in daily life. Although the poems attempt to impart wisdom concerning subconscious decision making, the fundamental message is about the importance of seeing the silver lining and seizing opportunities before they become a regret. A dream is an opportunity to give birth to reality through harvesting thought. Making appearances in the poems and as part of the title, the word dream dominates both poems in their entirety. The poems treat the word not as unconscious thoughts that ensue sleep, but as an abstract form of unrealized potential. The most notable binary opposition is barren versus explode, which is the decision that Langston Hughes places on the audience s shoulders. Arnold Schwarzenegger could not have said it better himself in giving his famous ultimatum as the Terminator, Come with me if you want to live. . Barren describes lifelessness in space while explode is the action that overcomes it. Explode brings warmth and life into the cold, barren vacuum synonymous to the Big Bang Theory. While barren and explode do not actually repeat, they are repeated throughout the poems in other binary oppositional forms: Life versus die and sweet opposed by rotten. Through these words, the poems express a quiet protest that holds the death of dreams in contempt of the beautiful, and responsible for what is barren and lifeless. Throughout Dream Deferred, strands can be spotted that are initially harsh coming off the tongue. Mental images of rotten meat and festering sores evoke negative connotations that vividly describe stubborn emotional chaffing. It is the kind of negativity that hit a person straight in the gut like divorce or home buyer s remorse. Thereafter, Hughes subtly progresses into a more positive light, not letting the reader forget that the light does not completely outshine the darkness: Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore And then run? This could be an attempt by Hughes at reassurance, saying that there s light at the end of the tunnel when one has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
